You have to keep resetting it and I called their customer service I have been spoken to very rudely. I purchased the 55in 4K Philips tv from Walmart Black Friday 2016. After mounting the tv and trying to screencast from my laptop I learned there was a sound issue with the tv. Over the past month I have called them repeatedly to get a resolution to the problem and they constantly blame everything except the tv. First it was the laptop, then the internet, then the router. Finally they admitted that it was a problem with the tv and their fix for this was for me to wait 48 hours for a solution then call back. If no resolution then I would receive a refund.

So I called back a few days later and once again they are blaming everything but the tv. Now they are saying to just wait until they have it fixed which could be I don't know how long. The customer service center I was speaking to was Funai which I didn't understand because it is a Philips tv. I have wasted at least 6 hours on the phone with them trying to fix a brand new tv. Terrible customer experience and still no resolution to the problem of the broken brand new tv.

I am in USA since 1977 I never seen when I do auto channel programming to any other brand start with channel 2 as CBS and onward all channel # are in sequence.

Phillips tech manager came to our hotel and sent bunch of untrained unprofessionally trained technician to fixed the problem. Never fixed the problem so stuck with 45 TVs paid premiums priced because best western hq was approved tv and best western sold to us and b/w did not help us behind their products either. One of my tvs is not power off or on from remote or power button. So today I tried to call Phillips tech, sales and main phone # from Phillips USA. No luck. I hope they going out of business or somebody lawsuit them and straighten them. Phillips is the first one bring tv in home and business and now is last and should take Phillips name from world. So do best western that they didn't stand behind us.

I can't even turn the TV off and back on. I have to unplug the thing and start all over. Sometimes going through the process 3 or 4 times! The warranty has expired so I'm stuck with it until I can sell it on craigslist. I would NOT recommend anyone buy a Philips smart tv. I purchased 2 smaller Vizio smart tv's for my 2 daughters for their bedrooms, never had an issue and they watch it all the time. The Philips is in my LR and not used very often. Purchase the Vizio. My brother wanted a new flat TV for his new home and asked me to do the purchase for him. I checked out the stocks available in one of the local stores and had to choose from a range of TVs mostly manufactured in China. My only purchase requirement then was for the TV to be 32" as it's the biggest size allowed for the small space allotted for it. I chose the Philips TV because it had a better coated screen that won't kind of smudge when you press or tap on it. The TV was delivered the next day to my brother's house and I set it up myself. It was easy to assemble as I only had to put its table top stand.

I was a bit worried at first as the main TV may fall but then I later on realized I was not able put in a screw between the top stand and the main TV itself. My brother had the TV for 8 days now and his children love watching on it. It has a VGA, HDMI and USB port so I can plug in an external drive and watch videos from it or connect my laptop to it. I like the colors of the TV and the simple way of changing the settings to own preferences. I also like its audio features.

After replacing many parts it now turns on but the biggest problem I have is that it will recognize certain entertainment devices hooked up but not others. For example my Blu-Ray DVD player, my Wii, and my PS2 are recognized but when I hook something else up it will not show up on my screen. All it is a black screen and no sound. I have tried everything I know but nothing works. I'm thinking of giving up and getting another tv but different brand.

My son purchased the 39" smart tv. He had the tv less than a year and the volume would not work. When you tried to turn the tv volume up, it would automatically go back down to 0 once you let go of the volume button. We called Phillips and they had us go through some troubleshooting that of course did not work. They agreed to send another tv since it was still under warranty. We received the new tv, but the warranty was not extended, and guess what? The second tv is now doing the same thing. So basically we have been thru 2 tvs from Philips both with the same problem, same model and everything. I called Phillips and guess what? "Sorry your tv is out of warranty." So how is it that they have a model of tv that clearly has issues? Yes they wanted me to send the tv in for repair, but the time frame for that is going to be weeks. I will never buy another Philips product again and I DO NOT recommend! My son spent $350.00 for junk!

"If you wish we can order the panel abroad but it costs expensive than a new tv." Afterwards I called the customer care and they told that "It would be better you buy a new one." But Philips services in Ankara and Istanbul in Turkey have not given information about repair and spare parts prices yet. They do not want to repair it, just to sell new ones. Less than 6 months since I purchased my Philips 40PFL4609/F7 TV and I have an black horizontal line across the screen. I called customer support and the lady I talked to must have been working from her home because of the loud music in the background. The only option she gave me was to send several photos of the TV with e-mail. Front of TV when it is on and off, back of TV, photo of sales receipt etc. I have to wonder what someone without computer knowledge, camera and an internet connection could do to get their TV repaired or replaced if there is no other option such as taking it to an local TV repair shop.

UPDATED ON 03/19/2015: Several problems getting Philips Support on the phone and when I did, many calls were disconnected. After several emails and about 1 hour on the phone, I was told they would send me an replacement TV. I received the replacement television today and was expecting that it would be an new in the carton television. ****** BIG DISAPPOINTMENT******* The replacement television I received from Philips is an JUNK television someone else returned. Worse than my defective television I had requested be replaced under the 1-year warranty. Looks like the next step is to start complaining to consumer protection.

What a joke! We bought the TV 12/20/2013 and within 4 months the TV developed a black line in the screen. We couldn't return it to SAMS as 90 days passed. Called Magnavox and they agreed to send us a "new" TV - BIG PAIN! Had to wait for them to send us a box and then go ship it out. 3 weeks later we get the "new" TV. We then see the screen had a huge scratch on it. We thought they were sending us a new TV? We inspected the set and it was obviously used. So... again we call them and they finally agree to send a better set. We argue that they should send us a new one. But they assured us that their re-certified ones were as good as a new one.

So... they send us a box and we ship it out and 3 weeks later we got the "new" TV. Now it seems to be fine - looks good - cool - but wait! After 5 months of barely watching it several black lines appear on the screen... really? So we call customer service and we are now informed that there is no longer a warranty on the TV!!! Why? Because they state my warranty is only good for one year based off the original TV???? So they sent us 2 defective TVs after the first defective one and the warranty is only good on the first defective one??? What a freaking joke these guys are - they don't care.

They are in the Phillipines and don't care. No need to argue and believe me I did! They pretend to listen and in a condescending way say "we are so sorry but we aren't going to help you." DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY! Shame on you Magnavox!!! Bottom line? We really think they are taking returns and putting band-aids on them and call them re-certified, then they send them to the consumer hoping they will last past the original warranty. Buyer beware Magnavox Model: 39me413v/f7 are defective! And if you send a new one back you may get our defective one as a replacement! They should send us a new TV, but now we are out $350 bucks and no TV and a lot of hassle!

I have purchased many Philips/Magnavox products over the years and am extremely impressed by the performance and reliability. First, a CD player purchased in 1984. Lasted many years then I gave it to my father. Next, DVD player purchased in 2006--still performs like new and will play virtually any cd or dvd with great sound and picture. DVD/VHS combo unit purchased in 2010 which is spectacular. Has many sound EQ modes and the vhs picture is just great--which is hard to find in combo players these days. Compact DVD player purchased in 2011 for my youngest daughter and amazingly will play ANYTHING no matter how scuffed up it is. Finally, Blu-Ray player bought later in 2011 which has great sound and picture and adds extra definition to cd's and will play earlier DVD/Audio CD's.

Furthermore, all of the aforementioned devices' remotes will work on every Magnavox product in the house! Now, this is great product design.

A word to all Consumer Affairs readers: You need to do the following in order to have more promising results in returning items. First, keep your receipt. Tape it to the original box the item came in. Second, pay close attention to how the item is packed when opening it. Third, when you get ready to return it, wipe it off so it is in like-new condition. Repack the item exactly as it was when you purchased it, even reinstating the twist ties for the cords, plastic sleeves for cords and remote, cardboard supports, etc. Include the manual and all warranty papers. Believe me, this minimal effort is worth it. Then, be cool, diplomatic, articulate, and do not ever put the returns clerk on the defensive. If the returns clerk is reluctant to give you satisfaction, calmly ask for the manager. I have NEVER had a problem with returns when having a receipt and the other steps in place.

As of tonight, it took about 15 times, the first 5 showing only a flash before becoming black again. Finally it stayed on the rest of the evening. My son said to turn it off for bedtime, maybe not safe to leave on all night (muted). Hope it works tomorrow. It is Christmas Eve tomorrow and we can't afford a new TV. This was a plasma tv purchased in 2008. But not even a year into having it, we shut the tv off when we left home. When we returned, the tv wouldn't turn back on. Under warranty, a tech came and replaced some capacitors. Now we had a Verizon tech installing fios services for us and he said he could hear the tv hum so it would be going out in a matter of time. Sure enough I turn off tv and it wouldn't turn back on. It had 6 flashing red lights as an error code. The tv would not restart. The manual said to call company or service center for info. I did company tells me. Now it's out of warranty and they could provide center near me at my cost, but would not tell me what flashing red lights mean. And they are not legally obliged to offer any more info as the tv's manufacture date is 2007. So they apparently know that the capacitors are a problem as it didn't even last a year and that fix left it running for another 5 years. Never after that would I ever buy a Philips/magnavox product. During these 5 weeks, my husband has made 27 phone calls talking to different customer service reps. All are very nice courteous, but they have no authority to do anything like replace our TV. After 10 or 15 phone calls, you would think one of the reps would have said, "This is ridiculous how these people are being treated. I'm sending all of this history to a supervisor to resolve." But not one of them did. Which tells me this is par for the course with Philips.

Nothing was unusual after 20 some phone calls from an unhappy customer. They should have taken the TV back, repaired it on their own time, and given us a new one with a new 1-year warranty. I finally asked to speak to a supervisor yesterday, very nice and courteous, assured me we would hear back from them within a matter of hours. I'm still waiting. She obviously has no authority to do anything either. This is our first product from Philips, and it will be our last. Philips is so anxious to sell their products but they really need to think about how to satisfy customers if they want repeat business. Our TV was purchased at Costco, and I'm very surprised they deal with a company with such poor customer service. Costco's warranty kicks in for another year when Philips' warranty expires. I'm sure Philips is waiting for that to happen.

I purchased a Philips flat screen TV a few years back. Recently, it started losing the picture but still had sound. Two weeks ago, we heard a pop when the screen went black and then it started smelling like burning wires and such. We turned it off for about an hour and turned it back on. The picture came back on but with the smell again and then smoke started pouring out of the back!! We quickly turned it off and then unplugged it. After reading all these entries, it looks to me like Philips needs to compensate people since this looks to be a common issue. This really scared me as this issue could have burned down my house! I went to Best Buy to see how much it would be to repair and I was told it would be cheaper to just buy a new one. Great, right?!

This is now a fact of life in the consumer electronics business, since NAFTA and GATT were initiated in the US! The borders were opened up and the electronics businesses went south and east and as you know, the prices dropped dramatically and the quality control went to non-existent. I had been in the electronics industry for over 20 years when those laws were passed and I never thought I would see the day when it was cheaper to throw away an item than to repair it, but now it is here. The reason there are no parts available to repair anything is that most items are manufactured with a pre-planned life span. In other words, they are manufactured to only last a few years and then stop working.

Most of the time, the actual components used in the manufacture of these devices are intentionally under rated for the purpose they are used for. This is done for two reasons, technology advances so quickly that when a product comes to market, it is already obsolete and the manufacturers need to liquidate the current products so the newest and improved products can be released. Second, this process moves so fast that the manufacturers are only producing the parts for the newest items because that is where the money is made. As long as we keep wanting the cheapest products, this will keep going on. There are no longer any import laws that specify that a certain amount of replacement parts are required to be manufactured to satisfy the need for repairs of these throw-away items.

On a tech support chat service, the rep (Zach) asked me to complete a static reset on the TV by unplugging the TV from the wall outlet or surge protector. He asked me to press and hold the power button for 20 seconds, then press the power button 20 times repeatedly, then plugging the TV back into the wall outlet or surge protector and see if that helps. No change. There's sound but no screen. When I told Zach that one of the boards could be bad (main board or the T-con board) as many people complained about that same problem and some TVs even caught on fire, he said that unfortunately, the chat service is for basic tech support and they will not be able to tell exactly which parts may need to be replaced.

He offered two options: first, he provided me with a link to access authorized repair/service centers in my area and gave me this website, tvrepairpros.com to find a servicer near me; and secondly, as a loyal Philips customer, he then offered me a certified remanufactured product at a discount with a number to call, 1-866-771-4018, should I decide to go with this option. I asked him how come they don't know which board is causing this problem when they have had that same issue and subsequent question numerous times. I just got an apology and was asked to contact a service professional for more information on repairing my television. It strikes me by surprise that they want me to buy another junk TV rather than tell me which board to replace.

I got the feeling that the last person I spoke to did not really know much about the issue I had. I was not happy when we were finished. The remote that comes with model number 46PFL5706/F7 and serial number VM1A1143117738 (A17Q8UD) cannot be seen well - even when the lights are on. I am very disappointed with it. The person that talked to me said I could get an after-market controller with bigger numbers. The sizes of the numbers aren’t the problem, and why should I have to buy another controller after spending $800? The numbers are all dark, which makes no sense in my mind since the room you are watching a movie in will more than likely be dark.

The TV has shown some other problems since we had it the last 3 weeks or so. There’s no picture, but the sound was working. I don’t know the technical term, but the top of the screen at times flashes a multicolored bar. I don’t know if that is okay. Friends tell me it’s not on their TVs. When watching regular TV, most HD channels are working fine using the HD box from Comcast. I have to change the brightness and other settings to make the picture clear. But when watching Netflix, I cannot make any adjustments - everything is dark. It wasn’t like that on my older standard TV. Well, I went way further than one question, but I am very disappointed with my first experience with flat panel units.

I received a Phillips Norelco Senso Touch 3D electric shaver this past Christmas as a gift. It lasted 3 months and then wouldn't turn on at all. It just went completely dead. I contacted Phillips in April about a replacement. I was told that I would receive a replacement shaver at no cost via FedEx. I received a shipping notice with the same exact say, and delivery was expected by the end of the week.

I never received the replacement. I contacted Phillips again the next week and was told it would take 7-9 business days. When I told them I already received a shipping notice with a delivery date that had already passed, they just told me to wait 7-9 business days. I waited 13 business days and contacted them again. This time, I was told that they were going to look into the problem and I needed to contact them again in a few hours. I asked if someone could just contact me instead. I was told that wasn't possible and would have to contact them again in a few hours, explain my story again, and they would look up my information. I waited another 5 business days and contacted them again.

Now, it has been 18 business days, almost an entire month; and my shaver has still not shipped. This time, I was informed that Phillips was out of stock and they were expected to receive more stock on June 4. They're out of stock on their over shaver. So I was told I would receive a notice after June 4, when the shaver ships. This is completely ridiculous. At that point, it will have been 1 1/2 month since I placed the original request. I have had to purchase conventional razors in the meantime to shave with, because my $250 electric razor doesn't work and Phillips can't replace it.

Their warranty service is completely horrible. When I contacted them via the online chat, I got a person who is typing in broken English with horrible grammar and spelling. Yet, their name is "Donna," yeah right. This will be the last Phillips product I purchase.

I sent them pictures of my damaged unit and they said they could not send me a new unit because mine was working okay. Now, we're in May 2012 (outside 1 year warranty), and I contacted customer service and they promised to send me a brand new TV even though I was outside warranty. I was given a reference number and a return ELA number to place on the outside of my TV box when I return my defective unit.

Two days later, I got a call from a Jordan in consumer relations who told me that they no longer have my unit but they have a comparable model that they can send me (40PFL4706/F7 that was only an LCD and not an LED like mine). They just needed my approval to send it out to me. About 1 hour later, I got another call from Jason who told me that he cannot send me a model after all because I am out of warranty. I called customer service and spoke to a supervisor by the name of Eric (Rep ID **) who seemed to want to help me out. He placed me on hold for several minutes to speak to consumer relations, only to come back and tell me that they cannot honor their original promise of honoring their replacement TV. He refused to allow me to speak to anybody higher than him and told me to take my complaint to corporate. I am totally sick about these TVs. We built a new home 3 years ago and I bought 4, yes, 4 Philips TVs, 27", 42" and two 47" at once. I bought Philips because I thought it was a good brand name. I only had the old box TVs (still using two after 15 yrs, and they still work great). I have the exact same trouble as I have read over and over here. I have perfect sound, but the picture blacks out. I used to be able to turn on and off and the picture came back. Now all I can get is sound. Both the 47" are doing the exact same thing. I paid $1400.46 each for the 47" TVs. I am so disgusted and so mad. I called Philips and they said, "The warranty is for a year only, so sorry. Try a repair shop." Are you kidding me! I cannot afford these prices again, will never spend a penny on anything they make again.

I think there should be a recall. All these complaints I have read seem to be the exact same problem on the 40" or larger TVs mostly. I think there should be a lawsuit against the public being screwed like this! Forgot to add this note. Last night my husband turned on the TV to see if the picture would come back on. He left for a few minutes and came back to smell burning wires. He unplugged it right away. We had smelled what we thought was burning wires the evening before but didn't think about it being the TV. Wasn't sure where the smell was coming from. Now he has unplugged the main living room and the master bedroom TV. $5000.00 worth of 3-year old Philips TV, I am more than sick about this. We should all band together and sue! There should be a recall. Before someone burns their home down and worse, someone dies in the fire over this. We need help.

The TV was non-functional. When I read the manual and saw only a three month guarantee and that it was made in China, I knew this was not good. I was right.

We called customer service and after being put on hold for 48 minutes, we got a service rep who routed us to another rep, who routed us to another rep (you know the drill, can you say runaround?) with whom we discussed the problem. They told us that we were over the three month guarantee period by one week. They also told us that we would have to pay to get it repaired by sending it to them. They would charge us $70 for the service charge and whatever to repair it. They would determine repair costs at that time. They would also send us the boxes for shipment. That person routed us to another person who would get our credit card information. We hung up (as told) and she said that we would get a call soon to get our information (this was just to get us off the line).

We never got a call back. Frankly, no one that we talked with was friendly or helpful. We got nowhere with your "customer service". We called Sam's Club and told them everything and they said they would honor the guarantee and we could make an exchange. We did make an exchange, but we did not pick another one of your products. Would you if you experienced what we experienced? I don't think so. Sam's Club said that they received a number of returns on these TVs and that they were not a good product.

So thanks for nothing. Bad product, bad workmanship (made in China), bad customer service. I will never buy another one of your products again. What would I do if I ever need your customer service again? You have no quality control from overseas. If you did, you would not be accepting such products. If I were you, I would change the customer service culture and have some means of quality control and quality assurance over your products. Naturally after the warranty expired, the TV started to exhibit a malfunction with the high voltage as the screen would go black with the sound being okay. Shutting the power switch to off, then to on again would bring the picture back. It would do this several times in an evening and some evenings it would continue to play without any malfunctions. But after several months of this, the TV was cutting out at least 6 or 7 times in a 5 hour period then it increasingly got worse till I heard some frying noise and smoke poured out of the back.

A friend of mine who is a TV service man opened the back and it was the high voltage transformer which you cannot buy alone. Instead you have to purchase the complete power supply which cost several hundred dollars. I had an American made Curtis Mathes TV for 25 years and I think I replaced a few tubes in all that time. Now I understand why they closed their doors. Their TV's were built so well that the consumer just needed one in his lifetime but today's junk that's made in China or in my case, Mexico quality control went out the window when greed by the American companies who prostituted this country to foreign lands for the sake of profit and decided to dupe the American consumer. Phillips flat TV (47pfl7403d/27) - Literally from date of purchase, TV cannot be turned on/off with remote control. I didn't exchange the set because the original box was inadvertently destroyed. I read on the internet a lot of consumers having the identical problem.

We bought a Philips 42" TV in February of 2009 at Sam's Club. We are having the same problem as a lot of other people. We first had a problem a year ago. When we turned the TV off, we had problems getting the TV to turn back on. Yesterday, the picture was on, but the sound was off. We turned the TV off and then on, and the sound returned. Later, in the afternoon, the TV turned itself off and will not come back on. We have unplugged it, installed the updates and tried to hold the power button on. The online technicians with Philips were of no help. Apparently, this is a common problem with this TV, a lot of them purchased about 3 years ago. Philips should do something to fix the problem.

We purchased this TV in late 2007. For several months, it has not been coming on, just ticking for long periods of time and then finally comes on. This week it died completely. We can't afford to keep buying TVs every few years and it certainly isn't affordable or even worthwhile to have them repaired. What has happened to our long-lasting, trustworthy electronics industry?

We are both angry and dissatisfied with this product, and very disgusted to have to pay for delivery and set up of a new TV in addition to the purchase price. We are not physically able to haul it home and hook it up ourselves. We thought "till death do us part" would mean us going, not the TV. To top it off, I will be missing the Super Bowl broadcast on my own TV, while relaxing in my recliner.

I bought a 32 in Philips LED TV from Wal-Mart on 12/14/10. The TV stopped turning on by 2/2/2012. I have the original receipt, but being out of warranty, I called customer service, and they asked me to unplug and re-plug the TV, which did nothing. The rep explained it was beyond the warranty, and gave me a number for a TV repair shop 45 minutes away, when I know one ten minutes. I paid almost $400, and the TV barely made it a year. I wasn't offered anything, but to have a good day.

I have had the same problems as everyone else. After 2.5 years, my 42" Philips LCD TV has no picture but sound. I also have a 47" Philips, and that one made a loud popping noise and started smoking from the right rear of the TV. It could have started a fire very easily. My son was home at the time, and luckily, he was able to unplug the TV before disaster struck.

I believe it's just a matter of time before something tragic will happen before Philips correct this problem. I will not buy another Philips product ever again. I believe manufacturers need to stand behind their products that they make.

We got home from work and turned on the TV with only a black picture and sound. I will never buy a Philips product again. I cannot believe that they are not being held responsible for the loss that all of the people have incurred. This was a big purchase for us and we cannot afford to just run out and buy another television.

I purchased an LCD 24-inch set on Jan 2003. The complaint I need to make is about the automatic change of channel. It is written in the TV box as user-friendly but I never thought the meaning of user-friendly would be in this manner. If I change a channel and watch a program for 5 minutes, the TV itself changes its channel. I had a good faith on Philips that's why I purchased the TV set, but now I regret about my action. I called up customer care for more than 5 times but still, no one has turned to fix my TV. Nice way to handle the customers. I'm planning to screw you guys soon in a legal way.

I purchased a 42" Magnavox Plasma TV in the summer of 2007. I really had no issues with it until just recently. However, it did go a couple summers without any use since I used it only while away at school. I turned the TV on and it "clicked" and the screen shut down. There was no picture but there was sound. I did this twice then came back on in a few seconds. About 3 weeks ago, I turned the TV on and after about 5 minutes the screen went blank again. It has not returned at all. The sound still works but there’s no picture at all. It sounds very similar to a number of issues I’ve seen on the internet with this brand of TV. From what I've seen, it will cost for a repair I can purchase with a brand new TV!

I’m not able to get any help from anybody on what the problem is or how to fix it without spending an absurd amount of money. Why aren't things made like they used to be? For what they cost you would think that they would at least last more than a couple of years.

It sounds like there is no point in contacting the company. I may go straight to the TV station and reference this website to see what happens. It is ridiculous that a product can have the same universal problem and the company not be held responsible.

They say call a repairman.

I had the power supply fixed about a year ago and everything was fine again until 3 days ago. I turned the TV on and the picture didn't come on and I could smell and see the smoke. With the price to fix the power supply cord and the TV, it cost more than a dollar a day for the TV. I will never buy another Magnavox or Phillips product. I'm just glad that it didn't cost me as much as I could have.

I purchased a 47-inch LCD Phillips from Walmart in 2008 and now, the picture just recently went out (still has sound but no picture). Phillips provided a name of a local TV repairmen (phone disconnected) or the option to purchase a refurbished one from them. Sounds like this is a recurring problem for Phillips and they should issue a recall on the specific products and replace TVs or offer vouchers towards another purchase. I registered my purchase with Phillips when I first purchased and often receive promotional emails from them so I know that they have not issued a recall on this TV but sounds like many others have the same problem.

I bought a 19 inch DVD/TV combo for my son's room. With him being a 2-year old, we chose this unit so it could be wall mounted to keep him from reaching it. The TV is one week out of warranty and Magnavox will not even let me ship it back to them to see what was wrong. I even told them I would pay for the shipping upfront and did not expect a new TV in return.

The supervisor told me that because I took it to a repair shop to get my son's DVD out that it did not matter that he did not break into the TV to get it out, they would not do anything about it. So I have a $200 TV that the manufacturer will not even look at and they do not care if it is a manufacturer's defect. Consumers be aware, Magnavox does not care if they send you a faulty unit. It is all about them and their process.

I bought a 22" LCD Magnavox TV in November 2010. It lasted about 7 to 8 months before the picture became very bright. I contacted Magnavox under warranty and was told I needed my receipt for repair. I asked about the warranty registration card and was told "the warranty card is not for warranty purposes, but in case my TV gets lost or stolen". Of course, I asked why is it called a warranty registration card. I was told "I don't know those cards, don't come to the warranty department so we cannot look one up anyways". I had to find the copy of my receipt because the original had to be sent in with a rebate. It took me a while, but I found the warranty and called back to Magnavox still with a few weeks left in my year warranty.

I was given a fax number to send my receipt to and was told they would then contact me about replacing my TV. After waiting a couple of weeks and not hearing anything, I called again. I am now past my warranty. I was told that they never received my fax, go figure. However, I was told I would be allowed to resubmit it via email this time and because I made the original contact under warranty, it would still be replaced. I received a call from the warranty department within a week of my email only to be told that it was now too late because it had been over a year. And of course, there is no record of me calling the second time with the receipt and being given the fax number.

I was given the runaround just long enough to get me past the year warranty so they would not have to replace their piece of junk product. Best part is the owner's manual specifically states about proof of purchase: "Returning the enclosed card guarantees that your date of purchase will be on file, so no additional paperwork will be required from you to obtain warranty service". I asked the supervisor about this and was told that it's not a warranty registration, but allows the police to contact Magnavox for ownership if the TV is ever stolen and they recover it. I now have a $200 paperweight because that's all a Magnavox product is good for.

Less than three years ago, my wife and I bought a 47" flat screen TV from Target with an extended warranty for $1200. It was 2.5 months out of warranty and Philips (after six calls) said "too bad." The TV was smoking like crazy and smelt like burning plastic for about two hours on Christmas. We unplugged it immediately and the two hours following was airing out the house. We have called four different numbers in a three-day period and no one will do anything. We and our extended family will never buy Philips again. Paying $1200 in this economy for a flat screen is bad enough. Having Philips not back their product is even worse. We read (after the incident) that there were many others in our same situation. I will not buy Philips again. What a waste.

I purchased a Phillips 42" plasma TV (42PF5321D/37) at Sam's in Feb 2007 for $1,400. Fortunately, I purchased an extended new warranty (to Feb 2010) from Sam's for $70 (best money I've ever spent). The TV worked great until Dec. 2008 when a bright blue color developed along one side and in the middle of the screen, and after consulting a local video shop, they diagnosed a bad buffer board. The new warranty (great product) quickly paid for it, but otherwise my cost would have been around $500.

Now in Dec 2011, the dreaded blue areas are beginning to reappear, and I am now out of any warranty. Based on all of the reports of defective Phillips TVs shortly after they are purchased or out of warranty, Sam's should consider not carrying a brand if a company does not agree to repair TVs under such conditions or with such a history. I know I'll never purchase a Phillips product again, and will always purchase an extended warranty no matter what the brand.
