I bought a Phillips 55W 55p19774/37 and on the exact two-year mark, it stopped turning on. We had a TV repair guy take a look and he said it was an intermittent problem caused either by the motherboard or power supply. It was going to cost almost half of what we paid for it to fix, so alas, we too have a paperweight. I just want to people to know that if they buy a Phillips product that it will not last.

I was upset with my Phillip 42" TV going bad and the cost in getting it fixed. So, I took matters into my own hands. I took the back off the TV and made a visual inspection of the power supply board. That board will link up to the power cord 1st. I noticed that a capacitor's top was puffed out and also had a black spot where the stuff inside had squirted out. I replaced that capacitor and my TV now works! Cost to repair was $1.97 for the capacitor and $9.95 for a soldering iron and $3 for solder. Instead of tossing a $1,500 TV after 2 years or using it as a paper weight it was worth a look. Also, those high voltage picture tubes aren't in there so it's a bit safer to look in the back of your TV. To send these TV's after 2 years to a repair shop is not cost effective. The hundreds of dollars used to fix them could be used to buy a new model.

I bought a 42" plasma from Fred Meyers in The Dalles, OR in May of 2008. Yesterday, it was the first Day of summer vacation for my kids. Go figure, the pop from the back of the set, then two flashing LED lights marked KA on the board is in the back. TV will power up but just makes the clicking noise. 2.5 years for a $1000.00 TV is not acceptable. It wouldn't be as bad if I could at least get info from Philips on how to fix or what the actual problem is. I guess you all know how that went. I have been buying nothing but Philips for 10 years. Anyone associated with Philips will no longer receive my patronage.

$800.00 for on sale TV. Several hundred in movies from Disney Movie Club, which I started after buying, a cool new TV. I wasted 100's of dollars on PS2 and games for kids. Massive stress from trying to take care of four children and help keep them occupied while I try to look for a job after being laid off. TV was a lot of help with cartoons and games.

In 2006, I purchased a 42 inch Philips Plasma TV that has recently stopped working. On or about May 5, 2010, a loud clicking sound with a green light occurred when it was first plugged in. Then later, changed to a red light that blinked 7 times without picture or sound and has never worked since. I have tried on several occasions to contact Philips tech support by e-mail and by phone but to no satisfaction.

While investigating online, I came to find out that I was not the only consumer with this issue. In fact it seems to be quite common place. There are thousands upon thousand of testimonials reiterating exactly what I had just experienced. This is a fleecing of the American consumer at the highest level and something needs to be done about it.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that Philips has a major mechanical malfunction affecting all of these Plasma TVs. The thing is who or what is going to make them take responsibility for their flawed product because they most certainly are not! The total amount invested for TV and mounting was $2,800.

I purchased a 37 inch Phillips LCD TV (ambi light model) on May 2007 I had it just for three years and I hardly watched it because I work long hours and watch it for 2-3 hours a night then go to bed. I come home one night and try to turn on the TV and it flashes this red light and the TV doesn’t turn on. I’m on the verge of moving and can’t afford a new TV especially if I spent $1100 on this damn thing. I called PC Richards and they said my warranty is up and that I would have to pay to repair it I called Phillips and even they only offered repairs for a price. Seriously I will never give Phillips my money unless they secondary name is Sony. I sit up bored at night with no form of entertainment, can’t play my game console, can’t watch a movie, can’t do anything but stare at a black screen. $1100 dollars is probably nothing for a company like Phillips but I’m pretty sure if the complaints keep coming in the won’t have a dime to their name!

I bought a Philips 47" LCD TV 47PFL7422D/37 two years ago for about $1,600. It starts to have back screen recently. Black screen occurs as often as about every 30-60 minutes. Once it happens, I have to wait for an hour to see TV signal again, unfortunately, for only about 30-60 minutes. I hate this piece of junk. I am so sorry that I am not alone, so many of my fellow citizens have the same problem. Any class action is planned? Thanks!

I purchased a Philips 42 inch flat screen plasma 2 years ago. The TV started shutting itself on and off. It started making a clicking noise and won't turn on. The screen is black. When I tried calling the1 88 number to talk to the tech to find out the problem, it is a voice response only, and informs you they have no live tech in the TV department. I tried emailing about the problem and how to correct it. The response I received back was you no longer have a warranty.

I was aware of that when I emailed them. There was no response back about the problem. I emailed them again, and again there was no response. My calls have not been returned as well. This speaks loud and clear to me about their customer service. There is none! If you google Philips 42 inch plasma, there are pages upon pages of this same complaint. I didn't buy a service contract because I thought it would last about 10 years. I can repair it but why the $400 to $600 bucks to pay a TV repair guy, I can just get another LCD type. So, in 2 years, my $1,500 Plasma TV is a paper weight.

We purchased a Philips LCD TV 47PFL7403D/27 in July 2008. For the past year, we have had the problem of the set turning off and then back on again on its own. Then around three months ago, the entire screen would go completely green and then go back to the regular picture. As of yesterday, the picture is completely and permanently green. This is ridiculous! The set (I think $1700 or so) is dead before meeting its 2nd year anniversary! And, it has not been under heavy use. Ridiculous. Never again. Out around $1700! You would think Philips would offer some kind of solution, like a recall or offer to fix or replace the TV. Now, I have no TV and I'm out $1,500.00 of my hard earned dollars. Along with $500.00 for a high definition surround sound, $400.00 for my PS3 which is not worth having without HD, the cost of the 3 HDMI cables and the extra money being paid for HD cable box and cable channels and the cost of the blue ray disk I own. With much research, I found that this is a common problem. I removed the power supply board to find that I had 3 capacitors that were swelled up and leaking out the top causing my problem. They know this is a problem and they do not want to own up. I called a local shop that was in business for 27 years, but now is going out of business because he said these TVs have become so disposable. I was told "if only we'd known." What? I called multiple times and was told I could not escalate the issue. Now, it was escalated and they said they could have done something if I had only called sooner! I did! I think I have made a quite reasonable request. I'm afraid the contract which states very one sided that if it is inefficient for Phillips to fix the TV, they will determine my remedy! I would very much like for any attorney to call them or me.

It looks like four years is the magic number for these Phillips 42 inch Plasma TVs. I too purchased one in Feb 2006 for around $2000. Form the beginning, it has intermittently blinked on and off for up to about 30 seconds at a time. Recently, it stopped working with the dreaded blinking red light. The repair shop told me the buffer boards and power supply board were bad and that it would cost more to fix than the price of a new TV. The repairmen said to not by Phillips. I cannot repeat the words he used to describe this product but I will tell you that I agree. I figured on a 10 year life due this product. Check out YouTube. I bought a Philips 50-inch plasma television and before even 3weeks it smoked in the back when I tried switching it on. I called Philips and they came to pick it up for repair. It worked for almost 6 months and within that period i migrated to New Zealand and I experienced the same problem again.

Luckily, the television was still under guarantee so I phoned Philips in New Zealand. They held my television for 3 months because they could not find a part which they had ordered from Singapore. But now, 3 months later, they have decided to refund me and can only give me $1,300 which is not even enough to purchase even a 46-inch here because in UK, televisions are much cheaper than New Zealand. But anyway, I just thought maybe, I have to be grateful because a lot of people are losing out and I think Philips have really let their customers down big time.

They need to do right by people even though they have decided to stop making televisions. Why should their customers who have Philips television suffer because of that?

I contacted customer support and told them the issue. They told me it is out of warranty before they even asked the purchase date and hang up. I called back and told them it is in warranty and the purchase date. They first tried to deny the warranty, after faxing the receipt, my bank statement showing the purchase and the store faxing a invoice as well, they finally accept it.

They informed me that they will buy it back for the original price $1150. They said this would take about a week or two to process. They told me once they pick up the TV that they then mail me a check. Well, they picked up the TV and I call them to get information on the delivery of the check. I am told that it takes 4 to 6 weeks to process the check. and besides they now tell me that they can't start the 6-week check writing process until they receive the TV in their depot.

The big issue is I run a small business and that was the monitor for the business computers and business work portfolio. The business can't afford to replace the TV and then wait on the check as their customer service guy suggests. The unfortunate matter is that now my businesses doors are now closed until this issue is resolved. In 4 to 6 weeks, I will lose up to 4 to 6 times the value of the check they owe me.

Their product was horrible for the time it did work, their customer service only has a 6-word vocabulary, "I apologize" and "I do not know". My recommendation for the consumer is not to purchase anything from this company or any of its subsidiaries. Also for investors, don't invest in this company and if you have, sell.

The TV worked for one month and had to call for service. Tech made replacement of one bulb. TV quit and in a week so, I called again for service. Tech came again and said he needed to order part. Two weeks later, Philips called and wanted to know if we would take a plasma TV to replace it since the parts weren't available.

We took the replacement and were told when replacement arrived to remove sticker from the projection TV and send to Philips as they were junking it. I was told to dispose of the TV instead of returning it. We asked about the service contract we had purchased and was told to call a number they gave us and give them new model and serial number. I did as instructed and gentleman took the new info. Now the replacement plasma TV needs service and am now being told the contract was for the original TV not this one. I was told we should have cancelled the contract when the TV was replaced and bought a new one for the plasma TV.

No one told us in 2008 to do that and after they took the new TV’s info we thought everything was ok. Now Philips tells me that it was not their fault but ours that we didn't do that. They refuse to refund the purchase price of the contract even though the service contract was on a TV that was junked under factory warranty even before the service contract went in effect which was Feb. 2009. We will never buy another Philips product.

P.S. They claim there isn't any record of us calling till yesterday. Philips doesn't seem to care about customer relations. I told them I wanted compensation for the years I will not get out of my 47-inch LCD HD TV or send me a new TV with warranty. They responded with the following: (1) Repair my TV at no cost, but I pay for shipping both ways; (2) Pay $300 for a refurbished TV (updated model) and send back my mine, and they pay for shipping. Both TV's would have only 90-day warranty.

The cheapest shipping cost from my house to Georgia would be almost $200 one way. I called Philips customer service back and told them that if I was to spend another $300-$400, I would put that towards a new TV of another brand. I have already brought my Philips TV to a repair shop and he told me the cost of repair would be $500-$1000 and it would probably break down again. He has seen many Philips malfunctioning TV's. Very similar to all the other complaints, and of course I got no where with customer service. I called Sear's to repair the TV. The first thing the repairman asked my husband is did we buy it from a big box store (BJ's, Costco) and we had. He said that Phillips sells their TVs to these big box stores at lower prices because the TV's are going to be discontinued or are already discontinued and there would most likely be no parts to order. He said that from our description that it is the "power board" or "mother board" and that it starts clicking because it is experiencing some problem and is shutting itself down to prevent more damage.

Of course, the cost would be around $600.00 to fix (labor and parts). I have written a letter to the Phillips Electronics North America Corp. to see if they can resolve anything. I have attached several pages from the Consumers Affairs website to show them that this is an ongoing problem with a lot of people. I will also be notifying BBB as well. You can rest assured that I will never buy anything from BJ's or a Phillips product again. I will write back if I get any response, most likely not. Then the red light in the lower left corner of the TV would start blinking. We tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, which only worked for about a week. Now this $1200 piece of ** is totally dead in the water. I have been told by some TV repair people that this is a common problem with these Phillips TVs. It is possibly the power supply board I have been told. There is little chance of repairing that board, so it has to be removed and replaced with a new one (part cost $200-$300) plus labor and service call charges. I am having someone come out to try to diagnose it.

I would love to see a class action lawsuit filed against Philips. I will do everything in my power to make this happen. I am out $1,200 for a TV I had less than three years. I am totally outraged by the insensitivity of Philips. When money is so tight for everyone right now, no one is able to just go out and buy a new TV.

My mother recently purchased a 32" Philips Flat Screen Television (Model No. 32PFL3504D/F7) on April 25th, 2009 from Costco thinking she had made a smart purchase. Little did she realize that the television would be useless in less than 7 months. Around Thanksgiving 2009, I noticed she had to press the power button several times simply to get the TV to start. I asked her how long this had been going on and she told me only a few days. Considering that Christmas was rolling in fast, she did not want to give her TV over to a repairman until after the holidays (money issues) and I decided to do a little research. My first call was made to Costco and their wonderful technical support line (turn on sarcasm detectors now) to see if the product could be returned to them. Surprise, surprise, they only offer a 90-day return policy. They then transferred me to the wonderful world of Philips.

I'm not the best with names (and even if I could remember them, I choose not to call them out), so let's call the person I worked with 'John'. John referred me to an authorized Philips repair shop that could handle this problem under the 12-month warranty offered by Philips. He then transferred me to a shop off the list and, lo and behold, the shop was located in Baltimore which is approximately 2 hours away. I briefly chatted with a woman over the line at the shop and she began to laugh as I told her where I lived in relation to the shop. Perplexed, I decided to give Phillips another ring and received a new 'helpy helperton' named 'Jane'.

Jane went through the same process with me, but this time said she would have a special technical team that will enter my address into a special program to find a closer repair shop and would contact me within 3-5 business days with the results. I believe they just used Map Quest. Three to five days finally passed and this time my mother received the call from the wizards over at Philips. First came Fredericksburg (which will play a significant role later), a city in Virginia that is 1 hour and 45 minutes away. Next was Easton, MD, the same distance, and finally, the District of Columbia which is 1 hour and 20 minutes away (on a good day) and would be my mother's first pick. Realizing we had no choice and that Philips was not ready to take a return or give a refund, my mother got the directions to D.C. and was ready to make the journey on her own.

Thank goodness I found out I had the day off, she was going to make the trip up there because it was a nightmare. Being from where I'm from, you kind of get to know D.C. and what parts you should and should not go through. They sent us somewhere we should not go. As a matter of fact, they were going to send my mother someplace she should not go alone to drop off a big, shiny valuable TV. If I did not have the day off, she would have had to go to that specific part of D.C. to witness cops searching two guys right outside the repair shop, and right down the road from that, a bunch a thugs drinking booze on the corner of a liquor store at 9:00 am, all by her lonesome. How dare they do that? She is an older woman who is oblivious to that kind of situation. And Philips has no idea of the conditions at this repair shop because they have 'never even been there', says one of the customer service representatives.

After that ordeal had taken place, I made an immediate call to Philips to voice my opinion to yet another so-called customer service representative who mustered an apology up and said to take it to another repair shop on the list. Thanks. So my mother and a friend brought the TV to a repair shop in Fredericksburg, VA on January 15th, 2010. The people at this repair shop were wonderful and I have no complaints about them. They promised my mother the TV could be fixed and they would call as soon as it was ready. Time elapsed as did the patience of both my mother and myself.

She called the shop the first time around the middle of February to get information on the TV, but unfortunately the part they needed was on back-order from a company Philips contracts with for their parts. She called a second time, which basically mirrored the first telephone call, and just recently on March 8th, 2010, she called again to get the all important news: the part will be back-ordered for a very long time and you need to come pick your TV up to send back to Philips for a refurbished television. What in the **? Why would I want another refurbished TV? How do I know that television has not gone through the same problems/situations that the piece of ** my mother owns has been through?

And to top it all off, they gave us two options on how to get the refurbished TV: one, get the shipping labels through the mail and send it to Philips with a round trip total of a month or two, the 'Rapid Exchange' which takes 7-10 days, but you have to give a credit card number which can only mean that if there is any damage or trouble, you have to pay for it. And if we do select to take a refurbished TV, you are only allotted a 3-month warranty. If you ask me, I believe it is a ploy to bypass the one-year agreement that Philips gives with a TV because it's coming up on the end of the warranty date and who knows what kind of loopholes they could try and pull on my poor mother. This is where my mother stands as of right now on March 8th, 2010.

I can't believe a major company could run people through the finger like this. Then again, I guess I can after reading all of the complaints that Philips has received. And to reiterate, she has less than 11 months of ownership on this TV and only 8 months of usage. And I ask myself and I ask you, should my mother continue to fight them and get what she really deserves out of this mess, or does she just roll over and let Philips win and continue to do this to the next unsuspecting buyer?

Philips could just pull the plug on the whole thing and she could be left with nothing, but I do expect compensation from this for my mother, whether it be a full refund or a new TV of equal value. I hope others who read this before purchasing a TV from that hack company will reconsider. Nobody should have to go through what she's gone through in this time and age. Thanks a lot Philips. Hope your business continues to thrive on selling worthless electronics.

Philips is the absolute worst company ever I will never buy anything from them and I will make sure to tell all my friends never to purchase anything from Philips!

So now we’ve had no TV for about 2 months and from what I hear it's anywhere from 400-700 bucks to fix it. That's a lot of money to spend on a TV that was 2,400 dollars. Not to mention, we saved up our money to buy a piece of trash!

"If your Philips product is not working as expected, we recommend you check the information on this website to see if the problem can be solved." So, I checked the website, no information about my issue, no technical support, nothing. So I clicked on Call Customer Support, after calling, I got this message.

"We're sorry but there are no customer care representatives for our television products, for service please contact your local service center. Goodbye."

So Philips makes a bad product, their manual sends you to a site which offers no support, and have you call a number which offers even less support. I will never again purchase a Philips/Norelco/Senseo/Sonicare product. Even if it means paying more, or driving farther, or doing without.

I will encourage my family, friends, and complete strangers to avoid this brand like the plague. Bad service, or bad support is one thing, but a complete lack of support for a product that never should have been made, should have been recalled, or at the very least have some sort of customer service. I just found this complaint forum about Philips TVs. I have a 42-inch plasma that started with the 7 blinking red lights. I would have to unplug it for about an hour and then I could get it to turn on. This started almost 1 year to the day that I bought the TV. So of course when I called Philips, they said my TV was out of warranty and I would have to pay for any repairs. When I called around to local repair shops, they said it was the power supply. I asked the repair shop how common this is for this TV and he said Philips has known about this for a long time.

This is not fair to have a TV for only 1 year and when it breaks from a known problem, Philips tells me it is my problem now. I had to save money for a long time to buy an HDTV and when I do finally get one, it is junk. A company should stand behind its products, not tell you it is your problem now. They must think money grows on trees and every household that buys its junk can afford to repair or replace it. There is a place in history for companies who do this. It is class action law cases and bankruptcy.

I purchased a 50" rear projection high definition TV in 2003. I had problems as soon as I hooked up everything, it had spots on the screen, I called Philips. They told me this sometimes happens and will go away in approximately 30-45 days, if not they will send out a tech. They did and I watched him totally tear apart my brand new $1800.00 TV. in my living room. This made me sick to my stomach to watch, he spent all day trying to find the problem. When he told me I don't know what's wrong and I am going to order these parts. When they come in, I will be back, he called a few days later, he came back and worked a full day installing new parts. This did not fix the problem, he said and I quote this, "I'm ready to just get you another one, then he took apart the screen saver and the screen and found some debris left between the screens from manufacturing this repaired the problem.

I purchased an extended warranty with the TV and I'm glad I did because in the middle of July 2004, the spots came back and everything on the screen was outlined in blue. I called Phillips again, they told me to call a local repair shop and they would repair it. I called them, they came to pick it up when they were rolling it down my hallway out the door they were in a hurry, hitting things. I told them to slow down, this is not a 3.00 toy, please be careful. Then they went off the porch with it and broke off a section of the rear wood casing. I told them that's enough. I will load it myself, you are not going to destroy my TV. They told me, "Sorry about that," then loaded on the truck. They brought it back on 7-28-2004. They told me they replaced to ic something and it is fixed.

I hooked everything up and the spots were gone but everything still had a blue outline and they did not bring back the correct remote control. I called them on this and they told me it is the correct remote and the blue outline is not the problem. I need to adjust the picture. I argued with them on the remote and offered to show them a picture of the one they took. They said, no need to because I have the correct one. I finally just let it go, now I have been trying to contact Philips with the numbers I have in the owners manual.

They go to meet a woman in your area. I got on the web to find a number, I called Philips and the lady was rude and told me she could not help me,and I'm sorry but you bought a 1800.00 dollar piece of junk. This was today 2-25-2010. My problem now is one of the projectors had leaked out all the cooling fluid onto my floor and inside the TV. I cleaned it up and used a wet vac to remove it from the circuit and PC boards of the TV. She told me these were not good quality units. I did a lot of research before I bought this one, at the time the flat screens were coming out and the ones I looked at were from 8000.00 to 10,000.00 dollars, so this projection TV. with HD was the one to buy, and I would get 15-20 years of service from it. I realize it is 7 years old now but I have had 5 back surgeries in the past 6 years and this TV has not been used a lot. After each surgery, I was down for approx.4-8 months on each one. I take very good care of everything I own. I'm not rich by any means, so I have to take care of stuff. I treat this TV as if it is one of my children and it looks as good today as it did when I purchased it.

On the first page of the owners manual, it states, "Thank you for your confidence in Philips." I have selected one of the best-built, best- backed, products available today and we will do everything in our power to keep you happy with this purchase for many years to come. As a member of the Philips "family", I'm entitled to protection by one of the most comprehensive warranties with outstanding service in the industry. Sincerely -Lawrence J. Blanford, President and Chief Executive Officer. Quiet the sells pitch, I had to contact several repair shops to see what it would take to repair it [due to the lady at Philips electronics telling me she could not help and there is no one else I could talk to about this, just buy your self a new TV] the repair shop told me it will be about 700.00-800.00 dollars to rebuild the leaking projectors and the cooling fluid is poison [the lady at Philips did not bother to tell me this] and I have grand children at my house often as well as my to small inside pets. This does not set well with me.

I spend my money wisely and try to buy the best I can afford. I now, I'm stuck with an $1800.00 fish-tank, this is not right and I will never buy another Philips product again and also I asked the lady at Philips if they sold out. She told me, "No we did not, we are still the same company." I asked this because none of the phone numbers in my manual are Philips electronics, so I asked 6 different repair shops about this. They told me they did sell-out and they will not help customers and a lot of shops will not work on they're stuff because of this, so this leaves the buyer out in the cold but Philips has their money. I guess that is what matters to them. The numbers in my manual are,1-800-531-0039,1-800-952-3254, the model of my TV is, 50pp9202,sr.# 77377022,hope this helps buyers to beware of Philips electronics. Thank you.

I have a 2 year old 47PFL9732D/37 with damaged LCD screen (crack in screen). I called for service. The part had been discontinued. I called Philips and was informed that the cost to repair is in excess of just buying a new TV. The part LC470WU2-SLA, although unavailable, is still listed in various parts databases and is listed anywhere from $500 - $700. I was told to replace the TV. Here is where it gets interesting. We paid over $2000 for this TV, because it has the Ambilight feature we adore and enjoy. It is difficult to watch big screen LCDs without it once you become accustomed. Philips no longer offers the Ambilight in the United States. Philips has no part and won't repair.

Philips tells me my only option is to replace, yet they don't even have the product with Ambilight to serve as a replacement. The TV was in perfect condition and was only moved while we are having a brand new (3 week old Philips 52PFL4703D/F7 was taken in for repair due to it not powering on). So, I deal with one quality issue. I tried to accommodate with the 47" so we can enjoy the Olympics. I accidentally damaged the screen while moving and now am left with no TV until the 52" is repaired. The 47" is essentially a trash with no repair options.

The customer service supervisor stated they are warranty support only and other than advising me to replace, have no offers or suggestions to the consumer. I personally feel that it is irresponsible for a company to offer product and not allow for repair. They should disclose this up front so that consumers can consider prior to purchasing. I would never purchase product from a company with these policies. They consider a large ticket investment such as an LCD as disposable? I can't believe I supported their products. I even own tooth brushes, stereo equipment from Philips. At a minimum they should offer a consolation price to move into a newer product. The Ambilight is available and in full production for Europe.

Contact Philips, 2. Contact law firm to join class action against Philips for your defective Plasma or LCD TV, 3. Contact the BBB and follow steps to file a complaint. 4. Contact your local media outlets and talk to people that handle consumer complaints.

Be patient with all of these. Philips, of course, will tell you they can't help you but it is a first step and at least you can voice your disgust with them. I got a response within a couple of days from BBB. I got immediate response from calling class action number. Be patient. It will take a long time for legal matters to be settled. In the meantime, we can make the complaints that will help support our claim. This consumer complaint web site has been a great forum to voice our problem with Philips. Tech support told me that the TV was no longer good. It would be best to buy another one. I was shocked, I took it to a TV repair shop and they informed me that the power supply might need replacing but it was difficult to determine. It would cost more than what the TV was actually worth.

I Googled Philips plasma TV and found out that I am not the only one with this problem. What can we consumers do if our TV manufacturers are profit-motivated to the point of screwing us Americans out of hard earn income? This TV has less than 500 actual viewing hours on it and not even two years old yet. It is hard to believe that we are always getting screwed by corporate America.

Well, I have now fallen victim to the extremely poor quality of Philips Electronics Plasma TV's. I purchased the 50" 50PF9631D/37 from BestBuy back in November of 2006, so I basically got 3 years for $2,200.

A couple weeks ago my wife called me at work because she could not get the TV to come on. It just flashed the red light of death. Of course there is absolutely nothing in the "Owners Manual" about this, so I had no idea what was going on. When I arrived home, I unplugged the TV and waited a few minutes before plugging it back in. It came on with no problems so I didn't give it much thought until it happened again this past Sunday. This time I unplugged it for several hours and again, it came back on. Well, it looks like it has finally decided to no longer work at all.

I knew I should have gone with the Sony as I have an old, as in 20+ years, 15" model that is still working as a champ. Two of those years was on a ship being exposed to sea air and then being shipped back to the states from the Philippines.

Not only do we need to keep supporting companies like Philips, but we need to work with our stores to get them to quit carrying the junk. I am currently working on contacting several local news stations in the Kansas City area to see if they will run stories about this problem. We need to get the word out and hopefully see companies like this go bankrupt where they belong.

Has anyone seen what happens when a rock goes through a plasma screen? I'm seriously thinking about doing it with this one and maybe recording it for a certain website.

In September, 2009, the television had a red blinking light that appeared and then once the television went off it could not come back on. At that time, I tried to contact Philips Magnavox with no results because they will not even speak to you if you have owned the television for more than 1 year or have an extended warranty.

I took the television to a TV repair shop which is the only place that works on plasmas. They diagnosed the problem was the power supply and replaced it. The television worked great until 2/11/2010 and once more it went back out and will not come back on. I tried to contact Magnavox once more but it got same results as before.Looking on your consumer complaint site, I see I am not the only person having these issues. It makes me so angry that my parents are old retired people and just three years ago, they spent $2000 on a fancy new TV. I wish they would have consulted me before hand because they never do research, but this was a new product for Philips anyway. I contacted Philips and just like to everyone else, their only advice was to contact a TV repair person. I went off and said that I knew they knew this product is defective and they should do more to help us all out but there was no sympathy at all. I was told repeatedly that there was nothing they could do. My only hope is that Costco will take this back. I unplugged it and waited 30 minutes, plugged it back in and only red light blinks on and off with no picture. I recently took it to a TV repair shop and they connected it to a diagnostic program. They said the board to be replaced would be more than $500 but recommended not to bother because it would break down again.

The repairman warned do not ever buy a Philips or Magnavox product. They burn out within 2-3 years. This is $1700, too late for me. Since then, I did research on the internet and found out thousands of other people are having the same problem with Philips manufactured LCD and Plasma flat screen HD TVs. I located the following website that lists numerous complaints. I called Philips support and they told me to contact a TV shop. I also contacted Philips online help and chatted with a support person.

I was saving it for when I had company so I watched on my less expensive TV. I went to turn it on last week 1/2010 and all that came on the TV was the green power light. I had Verizon come and check the cable box, and that was working fine. I had the Geek Squad come and look at it, and that's all he, did was look at it. He did not even go up to it and look inside, and tell me that he had the same TV and something went, and they don't make parts for it anymore. How can something go if you don't use it? It had no power going to it; it was plugged into a surge protector that was shut off.

I paid over $1500 for that TV, so it cost me $300 an hour to watch it. You can't even get in touch with a live person on the phone. And when you call the parts department, they don't even realize that they don't make parts for this TV anymore. The model is 9P5511C10Z manufactured 8/14/2000 Serial #46627193. If I would have known this sooner, I would have reported them to the Better Business Bureau. And the person on the phone from Philips Magnavox told me to get a private TV repair service to fix it since my extended warranty expired.

We live on a fixed income now, but when I bought this TV, I was only taking home $249. Do you think this is fair for honest people going to work everyday for such low pay, to scrimp and save for something that was defective from the beginning? And this company doesn't even have the respect or consideration to admit that there is a defect from day 1 that the TV was put on the market. If there is going to be a lawsuit filed, count me in. I'm sorry I waited so long, and just occasionally used this TV.

But then again, I guess I would have only had less than a year to enjoy it anyway. I have a Sharp TV that has lasted me over 15 years and a Sony TV that has lasted me 13 years, and they are constantly used. Shame on me for being so trustful, and Shame on Philips Magnavox for not compensating the people who bought their junk, and still have the nerve to distribute their product on the market.

The Geek Squad came to our house and they found that it is a 50/50 problem with either the "power supply board" and/or the "brains" of the TV. So they have ordered both parts and will replace them next week. They also stated that without the warranty, it would be a very expensive fix. May as well buy a new TV. I asked them if they had many calls on this particular model, much to my surprise they said they had not.

I told them of this website and to go take a look at it because there are hundreds like me. Oh, once I found out we had the warranty I went to the online tech with Philips and it made no difference. With or without the warranty they were cryptic and useless. So I let them know the findings on the problem of our TV and I believe the tech did a lot of copying and pasting to his responses. So much that I asked if this was computer generated or if I was talking with a real person. I found out to be real but I told him he was cryptic and of no help. Philips also needs to add this problem to the user manual!

That was the best advice the tech would give me and to contact a local repair man after I had told him that the Geek Squad was coming that day. Several times! Ugh! Since this is my first experience with a Flat Screen, I called Phillips since they are the manufacturer. I spoke with a few different people with Phillips and they decided to send in a repairman for diagnosis. The repairman said they would have to order a part and someone would come back to install it. In a few days, they came back and installed the part Phillips sent. Then after installing the part, the TV began to hum. The repairman said that it could stop working at anytime with the hum, and that Phillips needed to replace the TV.

We called Phillips back and they informed us that they were sending us a new TV to replace the defective one. The replacement TV arrived UPS Ground and the box was shredded and ripped. The replacement had been thrown, tossed and turned by UPS as all ground freight is handled. We called Phillips to notify them of the condition in which the TV arrived and they said and I quote, "We do it all the time," it will be fine! We hooked up the replacement TV and there is a hum in it also. Not as loud but still a hum. Then I looked at the new warranty manual they sent with the replacement and it said "refurbished". The serial # and model # did not match the TV they sent. I called them again to give them all the news. I wanted my new TV and they informed me they reserve the right to replace a defective new TV with a refurbished one!

Then they changed my 1 year warranty on my new TV to 90 days on their refurbished TV. So I bought a new TV with a 1 year warranty, received a used TV with a reduced warranty of 90 days for which they covered up with a sticker. So since apparently, this is the way Phillips and probably all of the others are now treating consumers, no one will buy TV's! I want a new TV with a year warranty for all time since October, 2010. I purchased a (Philips) Magnavox 37" LCD TV at a Walmart in Atlanta, GA in April 2007. By January of 2009, I started having problems with the sound. I purchased a 2-year extended warranty from Walmart when I purchased the TV. The problem was initially diagnosed as a bad motherboard, which the technician did not bring with him. A few weeks later, the part is delivered and installed. I noticed just as the technician was leaving that the green power light on the bottom right hand corner of the TV took almost a minute to turn off when the TV was powered off. A few weeks later, the TV wouldn't turn on at all. Again, another visit by the tech and it was determined that the motherboard that replaced the original one was defective too. This time, I had to wait weeks for a replacement part that I initially was told was not available. I finally got the new motherboard and in or around October 2009 I had to manually turn the TV on and off as neither the manufacturer nor the cable remote would work.

By now, the extended warranty I purchased had expired. It turns out that the manufacturer's warranty was something like 3 or 6 months and the extended warranty started immediately. As of last week Tuesday, January 5, 2010, I can't even power the TV on manually now! Arrrrrgh! I have owned many TVs previously and guess what? All of them still work well and have never been repaired until this piece of garbage. How do I throw out what 'looks' like a brand new TV (just over 2 years old)? Yes, I called Philips. No, the representative was not helpful outside of referring me to a local repair shop. Is there a LCD/Plasma/Philips 'junkyard' where we can sell the parts of the TV that still work?

I've tried leaving it unplugged and even turning the breaker on and off and it still doesn't turn on. Now I have to leave it unplugged all the time because when it's plugged it continues to make that irritating clicking sound. I've called the Wal-mart where I purchased it and they gave me an 800 # to call that is a adult hotline! I'm so frustrated and disappointed with this plasma TV! I have had other problems with it before this, but I didn't pay them much attention, since I could turn it off and on and it would be fine.

A green or purple screen is coming on or it's having lines in it and also coming on with no sound. But having to unplug and plug it in 20 times before it works is a pain. I paid $2400 with taxes for this thing at Best Buy after shopping around. This seemed like the best TV for the price. Well, it's not. Don't ever buy a Phillips TV. You contact Phillips, and once they find out you do not have warranty, the conversation is over. No help, no explanation to why the TV is out.

The extended warranty is overpriced and Phillips knows people won't purchase it but only offer a weak 1-year warranty which the TV is designed to fail in two to three years. We could unplug it until the red light stopped and then we could turn it on. My dad knows a lot about electronics and took off the back panel and determined some capacitors were blown in the middle (the instant on relay switch). They bulged slightly at the top. We were able to order them online for cheap - paid $15 to have them overnighted. So it was $17 all together. We ordered Part # ELXZ100ELL332MK25S by United Chemicon Inc. Careful! In December 2006, I purchased a 50" Philips plasma ambient TV for my husband from Best Buy. By March of 2007, the whole TV had died. No picture would come on. After dealing with customer service for two days, they finally referred me to a local, authorized repair company who then came out and got our television. After about a week, they called to tell me the TV was completely unable to be fixed. I called Philips back and had to be transferred to a supervisor. I explained that I needed the television replaced, to which they were not going to do (even though I was within my year warranty). After much arguing and threatening to have a friend of mine who works for our local Fox TV station do a report on it, they finally agreed to replace it.

I received a new plasma to replace my old one in late March 2007. The television worked great until about November or December 2008. Then we started getting the infamous red blinking lights. At this point, my warranty was out and Phillips was of no help. Every day, I would have to unplug it and wait about 20 minutes to get the thing to finally come on. This lasted for about two months and then one day, it worked just fine. It seemed to do fine through the spring, summer and most of fall. Last week, it started with the six red blinking lights again. It now takes on average about 20 minutes to turn the darn thing on. Yesterday morning, I tried to turn it on about sixty times (it will only turn on from the TV, not the remote) to no luck. Finally, last night, after trying for about 30 minutes, I got it to come on. We left it on all night so that my husband could actually watch it today on his day off.

Just like the rest of you, I spent a lot of money on a TV from a company that has been around and had a good reputation. This is the worst experience and product that I have ever purchased. It is completely unacceptable that the company is not recalling these televisions and refunding our money. I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't just have $3,000 laying around the house to use on buying a new television to replace a 2.5-year-old one. At first it would only work some of the time, and if we work at it for ten minutes by unplugging and re-plugging it, it would start to work. It gradually got up to taking nearly two hours at a time to turn it back on. It was still under warranty when that started happening. We would have to leave it on for a week at a time just to make sure it would work, and then it would shut off and not work except once in a blue moon.

It has not worked for about two months now, possibly longer. We bought it from the Denver, NC Walmart and we were not offered extended warranty. They were out of the TV that we actually wanted, and we were told that they had to order them and that it would take a while. They then told us they had a Philips 32" at the back if we wanted that. We told them we would take it only because we were driving around all day looking for the best deal. We thought we found a great deal - obviously not!

Now we find out that there is a class action suit against Philips from reading this post and that there are tens of thousands of complaints saying the same thing that we have gone through? We have contacted Philips repeatedly, but they don't seem to want to help until you tell them that you would take action against them, and even then they are still hard-pressed to help you. The girl we talked to first told us that she would forward our complaint to her manager, and that he would contact us in about a week - that was a month ago. We kept calling back but they kept telling us to call back at a time more convenient for them. We're the customers, not them. They should be making sure that the service and time we are receiving is convenient for us, not the other way around.

A TV should last much longer than a year, especially when you paid nearly $700 for it! We don't have money to buy a new $700 TV every year, no matter how many hours we work. It's really sad that Philips is still allowed to do this with all the complaints on this site, as well as many others. I googled the problem and found your website, I looked at the previous posts, and to make a very long story short, we bought the blown capacitors(ordered off the internet, no one in Memphis sold them) mentioned by Juan of Miami, and my husband spent 30 minutes taking the back off, then the power board and soldering the new capacitors in. Phillips put in substandard parts on the power board, they knew it and would not fix it. It was a pretty easy fix, the worst part was taking the tv off of the stand and getting it back on the stand (very heavy). If you have this problem, it is easy to fix and it saved us the cost of a new TV ($15 to fix it, including the shipping). Thanks for the info!

I then turned to the internet to troubleshoot. WOW, I found out that 100's of 1000's of hard working people bought these tvs and all have the same problems. I have found out that Philips Magnavox has known about thier defective tvs since 2006, yet they are still selling them to this day. Please join the Class Action suit. I had a difficult time getting a good phone number with a live person to talk with and when I finally did they weren't much help at all. We did not buy an extended warranty and after I told them that they were unwilling to help us in any way. Poor customer service.

Just putting my name on the complaint list purchased a 37" LCD Magnavox 3 years ago and it just went totally blank have been told the 2074 capacitor on the power supply is bad if you know how to fix yourself it takes about 1 hour at a cost of about 5 bucks. If you don't, repair shops charge up to 125.00 just to look at it. I have also seen where people get them repaired and 6 months to a year later the same thing happens. The capacitor should have been 35v apparently this one is only 25v and it overheats causing the tv to permanently shut off.

I bought a Philips 42' plasma HD TV 3 years ago from a Bose shop in Century city. I bought my Bose system and the sales person highly recommended the Philips TV for which I paid $3k including taxes.
A year ago the bottom half would turn black, and I would have to turn the tv off and that would resolve it. I was already out of warranty by then. Now, less than 3 years after I paid $3K, I am experiencing what most people who have bought this lousy Philips product have - the red lines! The same usual crap from their customer service - online and on the phone (which btw took forever to get a hold of). Call your local TV repair. I did. Estimated budget to fix this piece of crap - $800. This company needs to have a class action lawsuit slapped on their ass. DO NOT BUY ANY PHILIPS products. And, I am pissed off at Bose too for endorsing Philips. Bose-dee-ke! $3K for a worthless piece of junk.

I purchased the 42PF9631D 9-06 and had the same issue as other posts with the red blinking light. Fortunately "so far" with unplugging the unit I have been able to keep the TV working. Immediately after purchase we experienced problems with sound and losing picture, which we also attributed to the cable company. Even though TV is working it still loses sound picture for several seconds. Oftentime we have to change channel to resume sound on TV. I am interested in finding resolution to this issue since Philips support is non-existant.

I bought a 50" Phillips 50FP7220a Plazma TV from Costco in early 2007. At the time this was an expensive TV at $2700 which was nearly $3k with the tax. During the first year, it failed and i had it repaired under warranty. A few months after the warranty expired.... the TV expired again. I called Philps cistomer service and they were completely useless. However this time I was lucky that Costco offers an extra year of protection and after a week at the shop, it was returened repaired again. I asked the repairman why it failed so quickly especially since the TV was supposed to be rated for 60,000 hours nd we were les than a tiny fraction of that. He said Phillips lies and he seems many failures in the first year and many failures thereafter. Now it is nearly 4 years ago and it died again , the infamous 7 rd light blinks that so many have experienced. Bottom line is that Phillips is a lousy company with lousy service to boot. Maybe they can get away with it in Europe , but they wont get away with it in North America. I for one will certainly never buy another Phillips product and I will tell the story to anyone. They need to be driven out of this market as soon as possible

I purchased a 50" Magnavox Plasma TV (Model 50MF231/D) 3 years ago at top dollar $2300.00. I thought I was getting one of the best TV's ever. I have been noticing problems off and on for a few months now. It would lose the picture, for no apparent reason, but that was nothing compared to what I am going through now. It takes me over 1 hour to start my TV up. I have to plug and unplug for 1 hour every day to get it to work. RIDICULOUS!!! I called a mobile technician and he said the part I need is a power board supply based on the red light flashing 4 times quickly non-stop until I unplug it. So to top things off, yep, you guessed it, the part is NOT available!!! Now, my tv is turning on in the middle of the night, after I have turned it off, and then starts flashing red. I am concerned of fire so now as a precaution I unplug it before I go to bed. I am going to continue to try to get a hold of somebody to see if I can get any help. I'm sure that I am wasting my time but it is worth a shot. MAYBE!!!!

Same problem as most are having with this model. 42pf9431D/37E 42" Plasma. Sound goes out since brand new. Will come back on after turning TV off then on again. Screen would go black or very bright multi-colored on half for about a week or two periodically after having it 2 years. Then just black altogether. After turning it off then back on as suggested in manual, it stayed off/black and has 7 blinking red lights. When I contacted customer support via e-mail, it was recommended I send a letter to corporate. Our second e-mail has yet to be answered. When I called the customer service/support number I was not allowed to speak to anyone since I didn't have an extended warranty. When I instant chatted with Rita, she said I had an internal component failure and to contact a TV repair shop. No help, no suggestions, then she logged off. I mentioned all of the other people's complaints, that it should be a defect, or recall... didn't matter. Please add me to any class action law suit there hopefully will be.

Purchased a 42in. Plasma TV from SAM's Club in 2006. Almost immediately the picture started going out but we thought it was our cable because it only happened occasionally. Well now we only have one half of a screen the bottom half is black. Paid a lot of money for this t.v. and feel it should have lasted longer than 2.5 years. Count me in on any law suit against Philips. It appears from all the complaints here that they should be liable for such a defective product. They should not get by with this.

On February 22, 2007, we purchased a 50" Magnavox DLP HDTV (model # 50ML8105D/17). We have other Phillips products in our home and know that Phillip purchased Magnavox. Magnavox is supposed to be a "good" name brand. Man were we fooled. Around May of 2007, the television started shutting off. The red light of death went on. We turned off the TV and let it cool down. This process became a regular thing. Whenever the inside temperature reached 75 degrees the tv would turn. We called the customer service several times and we were told it was "operating correctly, buy shutting down to cool off", that it was too close to a wall or that it probably has some dirt inside. So we started using having an external fan blowing in front of the television to keep it cool. This is positioned by the side of the light. During our cold winter months in NY, the television operated fine. In February of this year we had to purchase a new lamp. We got varying prices including installation charges. We installed it ourselves at a cost of $149.97. My husband called and of course by now it's "out of warranty". He tried to climb the chain at Maganavox, but they said to send a letter. I have a $1,000 piece of junk basically in my living room. With the new lamp, the television will not operate with inside temperatures of 71 degrees or higher.. so now I need a permananet external fan blowing on it year round. What a rip off their customer service is. I will NEVER buy Phillips or Magnavox again.
