I have a Phillips that we purchased just a little over two years ago. Today, it just turned itself off and the blue indicator light in the front just flashes like a steady pulse. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it sounds like it is trying to come on but it doesn't--the blue light just flashes. I have heard that there is a lawsuit pending, but who do I contact about it? Thank you.

I purchased a 50"(50PF9631D/3) and 42"(42PF9631D/3) Philips plasma TVs in 9/2006 and have ended up with 2 pieces of junk! The first went out about 10 months ago and now what seems like the death of a second child has hit me really hard. Especially, since I invested $4000 for both units! Essentially, I paid $1000 a year for 2 TVs what a bust. No more Philips for me! Anyone have any success getting them to pay for the fixes? I read one post below where they paid for someone to fix it but most of the people that have posted have had no success.

We have a 50" Phillips. We bought it 2 years ago and it became a failure. We are trying to find a way to fix it. When we try to turn it on, all it does is turn on its little light on the corner and flicker. Click, click, click. No image. It cost us $1,500 plus tax. We don’t want our money to go to waste. We want to find a way to fix it without wasting much money. Watch what you buy.

I purchased 2 Philips Plasma 50" TV model 50PFP5332D/37 at Wal-Mart stores. The first one was purchased in October 2007 and went bad in June 2009. The second was purchased in April 2008 and went bad tonight Nov 9, 2010. One was in my bedroom and the other downstairs. They both did exactly the same thing before going bad. Click, click, click, unplug, plug back in and would go on. Then after about 15 days it gave up. 2 identical TVs, 2 identical problems at different times. These Philips TV's are defective and need to be recalled. Class Action suit underway at Horwitz, Horwitz and Paradis in New York. Sign up.

I purchased my Philips 42"flat panel TV (model 42PFL5432D/37) on 02/08/08. On 11/08/10, it started turning itself off and when you try to turn it back on it just shuts off again within seconds. I paid $1200 for this TV and it only lasted 2 years and 9 months to the day. I am angry I spent this much on a TV that didn't even last 3 years and it seems I'm not the only one with this type of problem. I feel Philips should recall with refunds or offer a free fix. I was basically robbed of $1200.

What a hunk of junk! I just threw away $450! Magnavox is not a reputable company! If they cared they would stand behind their products and have item fixed (less than 2 years old). What a joke!

My TV started the blinking red light and now no longer works. After reading all the complaints people are having, I feel we all bought a piece of junk. And it seems Phillips company couldn’t care less. We paid over $3000. We’re very unhappy. We have this huge and heavy flat screen mounted to our wall and it is useless, plus, the installation was expensive and to remove it is expensive, plus no real fixing.

We bought our Magnavoc LCD TV (47MF437B/37) from Sam's Club in Feb of '06. Of course, our warranty is up and today as we were watching football, the picture just went. There was no warning, just went out. We had sound for a little bit and then that went and all we got was a chirping from the back of the set. So now when you turn it on, there is no picture, no sound except the chirping.
We first went online and then we contacted their (Magnavox) customer support. The customer service rep that came on went through all these steps and nothing and then he says, "Well, I guess you will have to take it to a repair shop." Since our warranty is up, there was nothing else he could do for us. Can you believe this? Because our warranty is up you can help us. The last thing that was said from him is that it sounds like your power board went. I asked we have only had this TV for 4 years. And he says sometimes these things happen.
Like so many others, it is not fair that we spend our hard earned money on a product that we think is a good one but come to find out the product completely sucks and they do nothing about it. I say that we boycott all products made by Phillips/Magnavox until they do something about this. I say we all call the BBB and keep making complaints until someone from this company understands that they can't treat us this way by giving us crappy products.

I purchased a Philips 50PL9126D/37 50-inch projection television 3 years ago for $1000 from Wal-Mart. I turned the set on one morning and a loud humming noise came out of the back with a snowy picture and a thick black line across the screen, it scared the heck out of me. I called the support number and they told me my warranty was expired and they offered me another TV at the discounted price of $850 that would be similar to mine. Really? The support tech admitted she received a lot of calls with the same complaint on televisions but there is no recall.
I cannot believe a well-known company like Philips does not back up their very expensive products. After my experience and reading all the complaints, I will never purchase another Philips product. Buyers, beware of this company and always research your products before you purchase them. I made a very costly mistake.

Well, I called Philips on the phone and they said that they couldn't do anything about it. They gave me a number to call to fix the TV and it would cost me. So like I said, I live on a limited income and can't afford it but they don't care. Well, I called Walmart in Cuba and talked to a manager where I bought the TV and they replaced it, but I didn't get another Philips, I got Vizio.
I won't have another Philips. Are you listening to me people?! Oh yeah, by the way the second Philips I had, I got it in April of this year. Now that's sad. A big company like that has no number to call directly to Philips. Well I got myself a better TV now. Thanks to Walmart.

We purchased the TV at Best Buy four years ago (2006). We always had issues with the remote and its compatibility with our DVR and stereo system. It has been a pain for the last four years. The past few months it started having a little fuzzy look to the once great picture, and then it started to just go black, but we still had sound. It would do it when we first turned it on and after a while it would stay on. We knew something was going wrong. Well, we now are one of the many who has no picture at all, but we do have sound. The green light is on and the sound, but gee, no picture on this 50-inch (50PF9631D37) TV. Just lovely, $3500 down the drain. Someone else mentioned this as a "disposable TV" and that is exactly the way we feel. Philips is a horrible product and I am so disappointed, and also quite angry.
We paid for this TV with a bonus my husband received from his employer. We bought it and 3 months later, he was laid off. We now have a giant eye sore in the middle of our home and we cannot do anything about it. We cannot afford a new television, so I guess reading is going to be our new favorite past time. So very bummed about this bad TV. I will make a complaint to the BBB as well. I'd be willing to be in on a class action law suit (and that is something I wouldn't normally do, but this is a TV we are talking about, after all). We love our TV time as many of you do, too.

I bought a Philips Plasma TV in October of 2006. I have sound, no picture and a red flashing power light. If I unplug from the power source, the picture may or may not come one for awhile but then goes out again and I have to do the same thing every time I want to watch TV. I had someone come out and they said that the power supply board is bad and needed to be replaced. In total, about $800 in repairs. Not worth it.
I bought the TV for myself as I was going through breast cancer at the time and thought this was a good deal. I bought it from Circuit City (now defunct). How very disappointing that it lasted only 4 years, almost to the day. As everyone else said in this post, the product sucks and I don't see how they can stay in business. And I don't see any response from Phillips anywhere. What kind of company are they?
I would like to be reimbursed for this TV even though it is 4 years old. It cost $3,000 at the time, a good chunk of my money.

I bought a Philips 42" Plasma TV in November 2006 (42PF9631D/37). In August, 2010, it went dead. I replaced a bad fuse, but I still have the 7 red blinking light issue, which indicates a problem with the power supply board. I am very disappointed, as a service call will cost around $300 to $500, which for that price, you are better off buying another TV. I think Philips should fix all TVs with this issue. I think it is reasonable for a plasma TV to last 10 years. Old "tube" TVs last 15 to 20 years. Shouldn't this new technology be better than the old tube TVs we grew up with?

Yet another Phillips Flat screen dies. I purchased my family's first flat screen model # 47PFL3603D27 serial # YA1C0819015518 two years ago at Target Co. store. At the time, I thought for the value/picture quality Phillips was the right choice.
About 12 months into watching the TV, I would notice weird crinkle sound coming from the rear of the unit with a very faint electric odor. This would happen every so often and I would also have no picture, sometimes a grey and/or a blue screen. Until this morning 10/23/10 at 0630 Hrs, I was attempting to watch the news when I observed the picture fading and a large plume of smoke exiting from the top right side of the TV.
I was able to quickly unplug my set as the burning/melting electrical parts continued to exit the rear panel, waking up my family in fear of the entire house burning. I now sit on my couch reflecting on the "sound" investment I made two years ago on such a piece of garbage. Thankfully I was home at the time of this failure to take quick action before my house was lost due to this poor product. Upon reading all of the posts this morning, I'm not alone and I hope no one gets hurt or worst.

I called Philips Customer Support and told them that I was going to post on Target website about all the problems and I will also give a reference to this site so people could read more about the problems. Then, I got really mad and called back. I told them that they had to cover the service charge too, or I was going to report it to the Attorney General of my state. The rep who answered said that they would also pay for the service charge, so everything is covered under warranty even though it is already 10 days out of warranty.
They gave me a number of a local repair shop (Tower TV in St. Paul, MN) and they came out and picked up the TV and will repair it in their shop. The technician from the local company said it looks like the power supply burned out, but he has to take it to his shop to fix it. It sounds like the TV electronic repair shops will be very busy repairing these TVs over the next few years! Please take the time to contact your state attorney general and post your comments on the site of the store where you purchased the set. I don't know if Target will publish my review, but at least I tried to warn people. I agree with the idea of getting a new set every 90 days under warranty. Do you think the store would accept it?

I purchased a Phillips LCD (Model: 42PFL7422D/37) about a year ago. It was a refurbished model and I thought it was a bargain for the price. It wasn't. The TV started giving me problems from day one and I was never satisfied with the functioning of the TV until yesterday that it finally died on me. The TV now clicks, the blue LED light comes on but there is no audio or picture. The TV started taking longer and longer to turn on until it finally failed. Phillips offered me another refurbished replacement for $515 but I don't know if it is worth spending more money on a TV that will probably do the same thing.

Everyone with Philips problems, I have the answer! Look, if you're like me, you just donated a bunch of money to Philips. However, if we as consumers unite then react, we may achieve our goal. Solution: Buy new TV every 80 days! Before the 90-day in-store warranty goes out on your new flat screen, take it back, and trade for another of the same price. This is completely legal, and breaks no rules at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc. If this actually happened, we would see Philips become more socially responsible than ever, resulting from a drastic change in sales in the U.S. And remember what U.S. spells: "No one takes advantage of US".

Ok everybody. I just called Philips customer service and they said they would come out and repair the TV at no charge to me, both the burned out capacitor and they would cover the service charge too. I told them they had a lot of people really mad at them, and they know they are in big trouble.
Be sure to call the customer support line and complain, complain, complain. Also, go to the Target website, the Amazon website, and anybody else - Wal-Mart - that sells these TVs and submit a complaint and also list this website so that other people don't buy their TV sets. Then, contact your attorney general and ask them what other steps we can take to stop Philips from selling this junk. I hope nobody gets a fire from one of these TVs. My TV actually had a puff of bad smelling smoke before it burned out - the leaking capacitor I'm guessing.

I call Philips and they say, "Sorry, it's out of warranty." We will pay for the burned out capacitor but not the service charge. I am really mad.
I am going to file a complaint with the Attorney General of my state. All of you should contact your attorney general, too. File a complaint and get Philips to recall all these TVs. I wonder how many have started fires!

I purchased a Philips home theater system on May the 30th 2010 and by August, it had developed a low pitch squeal after the unit was turned off. I had to unplug it when it was not in use to stop the squeal. I contacted Philips and they instructed me to send the unit to them for replacement since it was still under warranty. They went on to say that it would take about 20 days for the replacement to arrive. Well upon its arrival, I discovered that they had sent me an old scratched up used system to replace the 2 and 1/2 month old one that I purchased brand new which by the way did not have a scratch on it.
When I called about it, their rep told me that it was in their warranty that they could replace a relatively new product with a used one. That to me is totally unacceptable so the fight is on. I will never again purchase any thing that has the name of Philips on it since this is the way they choose to treat their customers. So my advice to all future Philips products purchasers is to beware and do not buy their products as long as they choose to conduct business this way.

I purchased a 42” Philips Plasma TV 2 years ago. Last year, I was told the power supply went and I paid over $500.00 to get it repaired at an authorized dealer. Last month, the TV stopped coming on altogether. I contacted a Philips’ authorized dealer (Sears) and they came out for a fee of $106.00 and looked at the TV. I paid for the part which made my total that day to $285.00. When Sears came back to put the part, the TV still does not work. I was refunded the additional money for the part and Sears kept the $106.00.
Sears contacted Philips and was told that Philips no longer made the part. So essentially, I have a 42" plasma TV that looks pretty, but does not work. Philips offered to sell me a re-manufactured TV and a warranty for a little over $500.00. However, since I already paid for $767.00 for warranty (that eventually expired), $500 for a repair, and an additional $106 for the Sears’ service, I was not prepared to shell out any more money for this defective TV. Philips should do the right thing and have a recall to provide some sort of financial relief for their customers.

In less than one month, I had a problem with the speakers, so I returned the TV to Sam's and exchanged it for the same model. I received a refund at that time since it was reduced on sale. The price was now around $1200.00. I haven't had any problems until now. The screen is black and it flickers. The sound is perfect.
I called the toll-free number for troubleshooting and spoke with Brandi. After explaining my problem to Brandi, she asked me to unplug the TV which I did, and after a few minutes, she asked me to plug it back in. Brandi then informed me that the only thing for me to do now is to purchase a certified remanufactured TV for $700.00. I told Brandi that was very poor customer service. I asked her for her last name or badge number and that I would like to speak with the top person in charge in her department. She informed me that she does not have a badge or ID number, she cannot give me her last name, and she cannot tell me what state she is in for security purposes. I told her that I would like to take this to someone higher than her and I would like to give as much information possible. She gave me an address in Stamford CT to write my complaint.
I insisted on speaking with a manager, she then told me that she can get a supervisor. That is when Sean ID# ** came on the line and repeated the same information that Brandi gave me. The only difference in speaking to Sean was that he gave me both his ID and Brandi's ID. He apologized for her and said that he did not know why she told me she could not give me an ID#, and offered me a certified remanufactured tv that was less expensive. He offered the certified remanufactured tv for $640.00 plus $40.00 shipping plus I have the option of purchasing an extended one year warranty. I did not even bother to listen to the price of the warranty. I could not believe what I was hearing. I asked Sean if Phillips was deliberately making TVs to last only two years so that they can keep making money from the consumers. I also asked Sean if he thought that the company would stay in business after treating their customers in this manner.
I feel very cheated. I will never recommend or purchase anything affiliated with Phillips. I invested my $1200.00 poorly and wasted money.

We "owned" a 42 " Philips Plasma TV. In the 1st yr the on/off switch didn't work. We had no TV. After a few weeks ,Philips finally sent a service man . He could not fix it. After talking to many people for months, Philips finally replaced the set. They would not extend the warranty so we figured it was a set that was already sent back broken. We were right. Before the year was out, we had red lines running down the sides of the set. When we finally lost all color, the set was not even 5 years old. On November 11, 2009, I purchased a Philips 42inch LCD TV. 6 months later, the right half of the screen developed vertical lines of different colors and a few days latter I heard a crackling sound and the screen went black. There was also some smoke coming out, so I unplugged the set. Because I bought the set from a consignment company, Philips will not honor their warranty. The place I bought the set from included a three-year in-home warranty through Repair Master, so I issued a claim with them.
Well, it has now been four months of trying to get the set repaired and what I have been told so far is the panel is bad. I know I have two issues going here, but the issue of Philips selling bad products is what I want to share with everyone. From the looks of it we all should have checked this web site before making our purchase.
Many people will hear from me about the poor quality Philips is turning out. Never again, Philips! I told both "giants of Industry" that I find two years, for product in this price range, to be lacking and so Philips offered me a refurbished TV $550 bucks or they would arrange for a tech to come out to us and look at our broken TV and "possible" fix it all at our expense.

Since the first year I noticed the volume goes off. The TV gets extremely hot. I just learned there is a recall for this model since 2006 and I just learned about it. In March 2007, I bought a 50" Philips Plasma TV for over $2,150 at BestBuy. For an additional $350, I bought the extended 4-year warranty. I am glad I did. From the time I bought the TV, it occasionally goes "green screen" and it has to be turned off and back on several times. Very annoying. I sometimes have to walk away and come back 15 minutes later to try again.
Sometimes the TV re-boots on its own in the middle of a program you are watching. Quite annoying too. A couple of weeks ago, the TV started to not turn on. Red blinking LED in front. The only thing that seemed to have an effect was to unplug the power cord from the back, wait, then plug it back in. Also to turn on, keep the RC power button pressed for 10 seconds seems to have an effect.
At that point, I had not yet looked at my BestBuy invoice, and thought I was out of warranty. I called Philips, but they refused to give me the error code that corresponds to the red LED blinking pattern. "You can find that on the Internet" they said. After two hours of search, I found the Service Manual for $12 at one place and for $5 at another. I bought it and activated the Customer Service Mode to find out what the problem was before calling a technician.
If any Philips representative reads these posts (and they should), Philips should made every attempt to reach out to your customers and fix these issues for free. There is obviously a failure of your quality control system, and it damages your brand. Given my recent experience, I plan to shift to Sony next time, unless of course you show some respect for the people who support your business by buying your products.

I purchased a 50" Philips Plasma TV in September of 2005 from Best Buy. We paid for the 4-year extended warranty in case there are any problems in the future. 3 years and 11 months later, we experienced clicking noises and the eventual "no power-up" every time we attempted to turn on the TV. Fortunately, Best Buy honored the extended warranty since it was not 4 years yet. Best Buy sent a technician and got a brand new power supply board for the TV. The Best Buy service receipt shows the new power supply board to cost $975 from Philips. This is shocking to me since I can get a new 50" Plasma for approximately that much.
Anyways, Best Buy picked up all the costs since it was under warranty and we were satisfied since the TV was working again until yesterday, 1 year later. We are now experiencing the same problem with the TV. Unfortunately, Best Buy will not honor there TV service work past 30 days. So we are left with a broken Philips 50" Plasma TV again. After reading all of these complaints, I see that this is an ongoing problem with Philips and they do not want to fix the issue. I'll make sure never to buy Philips again.

I purchased a Phillips TV model number 42PFL3704D/7 in February 2010. We have been having problem with the TV not shutting off when we hit the power button on either the TV itself or on the remote, it just goes to a black screen. The only way to get it to go away from the black screen is to unplug the TV from the wall. When we try to turn the TV back on, it just stays at the Phillips logo for about 10 minutes, then it will finally come up with a picture, but no sound. After sitting about another 15 minutes the sound finally comes on.
I called Phillips about the problem and was told that I need to put a new flash drive (any brand but SanDisk) and download a software upgrade for the TV from the website. I find it ridiculous that after spending almost $1000 for a TV, it has software issues and they expect me to do the fixes on the TV. Phillips should just bite the bullet and have repairmen going to people’s homes as they call in or they should recall the product. I know I personally do not have another $1000 to replace my TV if I happen to mess something up while installing new software on it.

It would click in the night even if the TV wasn't on. At first I wondered if one of our sons was turning it on in the middle of the night and would get up and check on them.
Recently, it would turn on with no picture and then click in the background a couple of times. Then this increased in length of time it would take to get an image and then increased in the number of failed attempts to power up. Now, it won't power up at all. I am upset at Philips not backing up their company for the defects that are in there sets. This is terrible. I as well bought the Phllips thinking on reputation. Wow, was I so wrong in thinking this. I will make sure I tell everyone I know and see in any electronic store, family and anyone going to buy a new TV. If you buy Phillips that it would be a costly mistake. Word of mouth gets around Phillips. Shame on you Philips.
My problem was the TV making a clicking noise and shutting off. Making attempts to turn on and off worked for a few nights but was short lived. The attempts and getting a picture lasted only 3 maybe 4 times before the set went black. After reading most of these blogs, my only solution to this problem is try to do what Jeff of MI did in his (blog) August 29,09. I will attempt to take the back of my set off and check to see if any of the capacitors are bubbled up or leaking. What have I got to lose? This try might be a lot better then spending the money on another costly TV, which in today's economy I cannot afford. Another $1200 hard earned dollars. I think not. As far as Phillips is concerned (which they are not) I will never buy another.
Back in the day, I had one RCA lasted 10 yrs and another lasted even longer 20 yrs. Philips is out to screw the consumer that is self evident as to all the complaints i have just read. I will contact the Better Business Bureau. This is plain and simple Phillips fault in bad engineering and design. It almost seems like they are doing this on purpose to get you the consumer to buy another. "Not" me. I will follow this through as far as i can. Shame on you, Phillips. Shame on you.
If anyone has started a class action suit please by all means include me. If I am successful at fixing my set I will post back what I did and how I did it, as Jeff In MI did. Thank you, Jeff. I hope you have someone that reads these complaints, Phillips. Have a recall. Do something for Phillips' sake because I see this brand and company going out of business and not a minute to soon. On March 31, 2008 my husband and I purchased a 42" Philips LCD flat screen television [Model # 42PFP5332D/37 Serial # YA1C0748014948]. We selected Philips specifically because of the company's long-standing reputation and quality of products. My husband is from the Netherlands and the company is "Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V." which bears the *royal* seal of approval - Koninklijke translates to Royal. We registered the product with Philips immediately following installation.
In March of this year, approximately two years from the date of purchase, the television began making a clicking noise upon being powered on. The first time this happened, the screen turned on after about 10 seconds or so. As time has passed, the amount of time between powering the television on and the screen turning on has increased to approximately 20-30 seconds. Today (August 27, 2010), when the television was powered on, the clicking lasted for approximately 10 minutes before the screen came on.
An online search revealed that this is apparently a huge issue with Philips, and customer dissatisfaction with the products is intense based upon Philips' customer service's inability or refusal to assist with repair or replacement of their products. When I called customer service, I spoke to a woman (she did not provide her name) who took my information, and the serial and model numbers. I was then informed that my model is out of warranty. I was placed on hold and transferred to another department. A man named Andrew answered the call and I repeated the problem. I was advised similarly to the many complaints in this forum. Andrew advised me that it was probably an "issue within the TV itself, like a busted fuse."
I was offered a refurbished television at a "discounted rate", or assistance with finding a television repair specialist in my local area. I explained to Andrew that I had looked into Consumer Affairs and noted all of these complaints around the country...long-standing, similar complaints. Andrew asked me if I had been given a "software update" - and I told him, no I hadn't been, which is odd - since we registered our product directly with Philips online, and if there was a software update of which we needed to be made aware, then it was the responsibility of Philips as an organization to provide that information to its customers. I further told him that paying almost $1000 for a product that goes kaput in two years - then being told by the organization that bears the product name that the only available solutions were to purchase a *refurbished* replacement at a discount or pay for the repair cost myself is unacceptable.
Andrew was polite and apologetic, and explained that there was little that he could do with an expired warranty situation. I asked him about the complaints regarding people who actually *did* purchase extended warranties and weren't having them honored...and complaints from people who purchased products from retailers such as CostCo or WalMart and not having their unexpired warranties honored because they didn't purchase directly from the company. I was not given an answer. I also provided Andrew with the case number of another complaint with a similar product that shows that this is something that Philips needs to address.
All of this appears to me to be a trend in the electronics industry as a way to get consumers purchasing large ticket items more frequently (such as is the case with cellular phones); however, large ticket items are chosen by consumers frequently with long-term use in mind. Two years does not qualify as long-term. The primary "economic damage" is that we paid $998 for a product that proved to be defective within two years. The "solution" that we chose to implement is to leave the television turned on 24-7, suspecting that if it *is* a fuse, then powering the television off and on will exacerbate the problem we're having. That said, we're also concerned that by leaving the television on, we'll eventually overheat it. Further, leaving the television on has the secondary result of increasing our utility costs with the electric company.

I called Philips customer service, who said it needs service. It was under warranty but Philips said since it was purchased from a retailer and not direct from Philips, they would not honor a warranty.
I have made many calls to customer service about this, including calls to so-called supervisors. I find it ridiculous to think that a company will refuse to honor a warranty if you buy their product in good faith but from a retailer. If so, what is the point of offering a "warranty" on the product? After this silly experience with Philips customer service, I will not buy Philips products again, unless they contact me and make this situation right.

I purchased a brand new PHILIPS 42" digital widescreen flat TV, Model #42PFL5432D/37E in September of 08. I noticed some time ago that upon changing channels, the TV would lose the bottom half of the screen and the picture would be completely crunched at the top of the screen. The only thing that would fix it was turning the power off and back on. I had been looking online for similar issues and resolutions to no avail. Today my TV was off and I decided to sit down and watch for a while. When I turned the television on, it turned right off again after a few seconds. So I tried again and the problem wouldn't go away. The entire day has gone by now and the issue seems to be permanent.
I called Philips and explained the issue and all I was offered was a similar "refurbished" model at a discounted price or the number of a local repair shop that I could take the television to (at my own expense). This is hardly a solution, in fact, this sounds like me solving my own issue instead of Philips working with me to solve the issue. After reading several forums today, including one on this site, it seems that there are many people having the same issue with Philips products and, in most cases, the same model that I have. I am wondering how many complaints it takes before Philips stands up as a company and recalls their faulty products. They seem to be on the cusp of losing a ton of customers who at one time were very loyal.
Call me silly, but I buy everything Philips just because I share the name and like the idea of having my name on all my electronic equipment and more. Now it seems that they are ruining my name and their reputation at the same time. If anyone knows how to get the BBB involved along with Consumer Affairs to see if we can collectively find a solution to this issue. Please feel free to let me know and include me. I will definitely do all I can to assist everyone and anyone who is suffering the same as I am right now. Philips, if you are reading this, maybe this is an opportunity for you to step up and be "The Good Guy" by helping all your loyal consumers here before you lose us all forever. Keeping us and getting some good publicity for the act is certainly a worthy cause... at least I think so.

I typically don't complain about products/services. Rather, I prefer writing positive reviews about good ones. However, I think anyone considering purchasing any Phillips product should beware! If your looking to buy a product from a company where quality is policy, then don't purchase a Philips.
I purchased a 42" LCD TV in January 2008. In January 2010, the TV started clicking. It would randomly click in the middle of the night or middle of the day when the TV wasn't even on. It would also click when we turned it on and continue clicking for increasingly longer periods of time (up to 15 minutes at some times). I can't remember exactly what we paid, but it was in the ballpark of $1500. I wouldn't want to pay in the ballpark of $500 for something that would only last 2 years, much less 3X that!
After reading the complaints of other consumers who probably also purchased their televisions thinking Phillips was a reputable brand, I have no hope that Phillips will do the right thing and recall this failed product. This is the last product I will ever purchase from Phillips, and I will make sure friends/family know what they can expect from Phillips as well!

Today it never came back on. This happened to two of the three TVs purchased. I can hardly wait for the third to break down. I called Phillips and of course the 90 day warranty is expired, therefore they can't do a thing but offer you a refurbished TV at a discount.
Why would I want to buy another Phillips product at any cost? I would expect a TV to last at least 5 years. Or at least an offer to fix it. Back in the day, we had our TVs for 15 years. I also have a 46" flat screen by Phillips. I pray that I don't have the same problems. I will never purchase another Phillips brand TV. I expected a name like Phillips to stand behind their products. They basically gave me the brush off and said that the firmware update will fix approximately 85% of the display issues but I will need to contact a licensed repair store to resolve this problem.
Add me to the list of suckers that trusted this brand. $1600.00 was gone down the tube! Caveat Emptor! Attorneys, we need help. We are in a recession. I am economically and emotionally drained at the lost of my hard-earned money.

I purchased 42" LCD HDTV 1080p on February 4th, 2010. 5 months later, the TV doesn't work at all. When powered on, the screen turns black and only says "Digital Television" on the bottom corner. That is the only screen that will display. I can not change the channel, volume or open up the menu. Even the power button doesn't work. All buttons on the side of TV are inoperable. The remote control is completely inoperable. Screen is stuck at "digital television. The only way to turn it off is to unplug it. The LED light on front just has a medium pace blinking green light.
I called Magnavox, they only have a 90 day warranty and 1 yr parts warranty. So, I call the TV shop they gave me and the cost to repair will be about $350 labor. The TV was a great buy at only about $450 brand new over the super bowl weekend sales at a major retailer. I have to pay the amount over again to repair it? What is annoying is the parts probably cost $2, while I pay $350 for labor.
So, at this point I will attempt to repair it, even though I know nothing about soldiering (if that's spelled right) or electronics. If no luck, then its time to put this on Craigslist for someone who wants to buy a 42" TV and fix it. Then I'll buy a 3D TV from a company other than Philips-Magnavox, probably Sony. I guess I'll also pay for an extended warranty this time. I am so shocked that Philips-Magnavox is producing such low quality TV's. Reputation and "Brand" is everything in the retail world. They are going to lose a lot of market share and eventually become zenith. What kind of leadership is running that company?

18 months ago, we purchased a 50" plasma TV (50PVP5332/D). Two weeks ago, it developed a vertical black line (about 4"wide) on the right side of the screen. Philips mentioned that since the warranty is over, I should contact my local TV repair shop. I did; the man changed one of the boards and it got worse. They told him to try another board or to change the screen. The local honest TV repair shop contact me with the news that the repair could cost more than a new TV. They refused to continue experimenting at my cost.
I think Philips should be responsible for the quality of their products, having capable technicians ready to respond to their customers' needs and not telephone operators that carried on the irresponsibility of the company. I invested $1400 with the expectations of having a TV for the next 10 years at least. The quality of the Mexican product is not up to the standards of Philips Europe and Philips USA is not up to the standards of a responsible customer oriented company. If you are looking for a new TV, don't even waste your time looking at the Philips brand.

Can we get a recall on this defective product (Philips 42" plasma HDTV model 42PFP5332D/37 400 watt) that was dumped on consumers?
We bought this TV two years ago. It took longer for it to start up the last few months and even began clicking as if trying to start when it had been powered down and off. Ghostly clicking from the living room at 3 AM is disturbing. Now, it fails to phase on and clicks repeatedly. We have pulled out our 15-year-old tube TV that the plasma had replaced and cost 2/3 less to purchase. $1,000 plus wall mount and shipping was just given away to Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.
We are upset to be spending money that we had not planned to spend on repurchasing a TV when we should be saving for the upcoming holidays. I strained my back taking the worthless TV off the wall mount. The family is unhappy due to the interruption of their favorite shows.

I purchased a Philips 46" LCD TV (model 47PFL5432E-37) one year & 4 months ago. I purchased extended warranty (bought at Walmart). The TV quits and I call the phone number for extended warranty. The repairman comes out, master slave kit needs to be replaced and he has to order part. The part has been on order for over three weeks today.
I call extended warranty (JD Power & Associates) only to be told they will investigate why it's taking so long to obtain part. They will get back with me in 3-5 business days. I refused to be put off any longer. I asked for the phone number of Philips Company. The young lady give me a phone number that belongs to a company called [some other business]. I called back & informed her she's got the wrong number listed & asked for another phone number. She gives me 888- *** & I speak w/ Josh who is of no help. He refers me back to the extended warranty carrier & I explained they are saying Philips doesn't have the part; it's on back order. I asked to speak with a supervisor & I get a gentleman named Tony. Tony repeats what Josh said; it's a problem between myself & the extended warranty carrier; there is nothing his company can do to help me because the warranty has expired.
I've spent over $1,200 for this television & feel it should last longer than 16 months. Extended warranty or no extended warranty, the part cannot be located to repair the television. Finally Tony gives me the phone number the the distributor they (Philips) purchases parts from, Encompass. I call Encompass and learn the part is on back order and they have no idea when it will be available. In the meantime, I have no television. I'm paying for HD cable TV that I cannot use. When I make a major purchase such as this, I expect it to last longer than two years.
I wish I would have done my homework & read up on Philips televisions because I never ever would have purchased one. It appears as though this is a major defect in their televisions with the part being out of stock and all of the same complaints. Why isn't a recall being done or a class action lawsuit being filed? I have no television to watch, I'm paying for cable TV that I'm not using nor can I watch DVDs in place of cable because the TV doesn't work.

Well folks, add me up there to the long list of Philips Magnavox haters, I heard Philips used to be a trustworthy company, so when I brought my 26-inch LCD with built-in tuner, I had no idea it would ** on me in 5 years. That's right folks, not 9 or 10 just 5 and of course, the warranty ran out. They, as they so delicately put it, couldn't do anything about it.
To make a long story short, I should have known this piece of stuff wouldn't last when the first couple of years, the TV would automatically shut off in the middle of my video game. I needed to keep resetting the size and the sound would keep going in and out.
In the final leg of it's journey just 2 days ago, I turned it on and it suddenly needed a system update. Okay, I figured I'd download the 2006 update but then the website wouldn't work, and the customer service rep can't contact them, he assumed they knew about it and that it would be fixed tomorrow. Tomorrow comes, I download the driver onto the USB stick do everything they say, to do reset and it's still giving me the no-update-found.
So, I called back customer service knowing what was coming, and sure enough he says, "Sounds like faulty board issue, we can't do anything about that, no warranty, call a technician and see if they even have the parts to your old TV."
I won't be getting charged up the a** for repairing this and having them send it to the shop, and I won't be purchasing anything from this company anymore.

After contacting customer service and sending it out for repair, it was determined that there were no parts available to repair our TV. They then indicated that we would receive another TV in the mail, of equal value. At the time, however, we were not aware this was a refurbished TV, not a new one. This TV has lasted exactly 6 months, the warranty has expired, of course and we were requested to purchase an extended warranty on this TV. However, we felt that if this was a quality product, why would we spend an additional $400+ after purchasing this TV for $1,265.64 (from Sam's Club) and receiving less than a year of quality service?
We are now stuck with a TV that does not work. We will purchase another TV, definitely not a Philips. I might add, I will tell others never to purchase a Philips TV. I really did not receive any satisfaction from Philips other than "so sad, too bad, we totally understand". I have owned 2 different 42" plasma TVs from Philips. The initial one was purchased for $2500.00 in 2004, and it died at the one-month mark. Since it was so recently purchased, it was readily replaced by Fry's Electronics. We also bought the extended warranty at the initial purchase, but since the TV died within the month, Fry's readily exchanged it for customer satisfaction.
The replacement set lasted for a little over a year, and then the picture wouldn't come on. No sound, no picture; just clicking as if attempting to turn on, blinking red lights and then nothing. Since we had the extended Fry's warranty, they replaced it with a comparable Samsung that only sold new for $900.00. But hey, we were happy we could get a replacement.
I moved to Manila, Philippines and bought a different Philips 42" plasma with Ambilight for 147,000 pesos ($3200.00 USD). This Ambilight was one of the coolest features ever. I can watch movies in the dark or without any room lights, and the Ambilight made the viewing very pleasurable on the eyes. After 1.5 year, horizontal black lines appeared and the upper and lower Y buffers had to be replaced. This cost me 10,000 pesos (a little over $217.00 USD).
The repair shop gave me a 6-month warranty, and only after 2 months of working perfect, the TV now has only a black picture. Sound works and I can toggle between the cable box and DVD player by memory, but there is no picture.
I am calling the shop tomorrow, but I have a feeling I will only get bad news. Lesson learned... Never buy Philips. I only have the delay of turning on, and then the clicking sound as if trying to turn on. The Ambilight will give a flash, but the picture was never restored. So in essence, this is 3 total 42" philips plasma TVs that have all died after working for barely a year. (in the initial case, only one month.)

I had my boyfriend put it on his Visa credit card for I did not have my refund at that time. I brought the TV home. It worked great and there were no problems for four months. Then I went to sleep on the 5th of June with my 42-inch TV on, watching a show with my son. On June 6th, I woke up and my TV was off and making a screeching sound. It would not turn on with the controller or by pushing the power button on the TV. I unplugged it for half hour and plugged it back in. It did same thing. I took my Magnavox TV books out, got the number and called. They gave me a Ref. number. I called the next 4 or 5 days, asking what they can do. They said I still have on site warranty and parts warranty. The only place that could come to my place and fix it would cost $240.
I complained about how I have only had the TV for 4 months. I had spoken to a lady and she said to send in the receipt or credit card statement or bank statement. So I had my boyfriend call his credit card company. They faxed him the statement. It states on there the date of purchase and the amount of purchase. However, they got the fax statement and now said they can't use it. It's not their policy. It has to be receipt, even though the lady told me it could be one of the 3 things listed above. They told me to call Target and ask if they can get me a receipt. I have called Target twice in a week asking. They said both times they can't. It's been 90 days. I have told this to Magnavox company and they said it has to be a receipt. Now, they say I don't have on site warranty and tried to tell me I bought the TV 6 months ago. I know when I bought the TV because I bought it Super Bowl weekend.
I would expect better treatment and better service. One employee will tell me one thing and another one will tell me something else. I'm getting upset. I told them I looked up what could be wrong with the TV. It's the power supply board which, from what I have read online from other people who have purchased Magnavox. The same thing has happened to them and Magnavox will not fix it free of charge or exchange it if it has even been less than 6 months.
I would think a TV I paid $535 for because it was $35 tax on the TV would last at least 2 yrs. but no, it lasted 4 months. I'm a single mom of 3. I'm working at a $9 an hour job. I do not have money to fix what lasted only 4 months when I did not break it. They keep sending me to different people. They will not let me talk to a manager of any kind. They tell me they will fix it free of charge if I turn in a receipt or credit card statement or bank statement. I send one in and they still won't do it. They said their employee should have never said that about the credit card statement because they don't accept those as proof of purchase. I'm tired of being tossed around and told different things. I do what they say and I get nothing that they said. If you look on websites or google about their TVs, you can read all the complaints with people's TVs doing what mine did.

Then the red light would flicker. By this time the green light would be off. Count 3 red light flicker and turn the power switch off and on again. Just repeat this and your paper weight will turn on (if not connected to power switch just unplug and plug back into wall). I will never purchase another Philips/Magnavox product again. They probably knew about this problem and should address this.

I bought a Phillips 55W 55p19774/37 and on the exact two-year mark, it stopped turning on. We had a TV repair guy take a look and he said it was an intermittent problem caused either by the motherboard or power supply. It was going to cost almost half of what we paid for it to fix, so alas, we too have a paperweight. I just want to people to know that if they buy a Phillips product that it will not last.

I was upset with my Phillip 42" TV going bad and the cost in getting it fixed. So, I took matters into my own hands. I took the back off the TV and made a visual inspection of the power supply board. That board will link up to the power cord 1st. I noticed that a capacitor's top was puffed out and also had a black spot where the stuff inside had squirted out. I replaced that capacitor and my TV now works! Cost to repair was $1.97 for the capacitor and $9.95 for a soldering iron and $3 for solder. Instead of tossing a $1,500 TV after 2 years or using it as a paper weight it was worth a look. Also, those high voltage picture tubes aren't in there so it's a bit safer to look in the back of your TV. To send these TV's after 2 years to a repair shop is not cost effective. The hundreds of dollars used to fix them could be used to buy a new model.

I bought a 42" plasma from Fred Meyers in The Dalles, OR in May of 2008. Yesterday, it was the first Day of summer vacation for my kids. Go figure, the pop from the back of the set, then two flashing LED lights marked KA on the board is in the back. TV will power up but just makes the clicking noise. 2.5 years for a $1000.00 TV is not acceptable. It wouldn't be as bad if I could at least get info from Philips on how to fix or what the actual problem is. I guess you all know how that went. I have been buying nothing but Philips for 10 years. Anyone associated with Philips will no longer receive my patronage.
$800.00 for on sale TV. Several hundred in movies from Disney Movie Club, which I started after buying, a cool new TV. I wasted 100's of dollars on PS2 and games for kids. Massive stress from trying to take care of four children and help keep them occupied while I try to look for a job after being laid off. TV was a lot of help with cartoons and games.

In 2006, I purchased a 42 inch Philips Plasma TV that has recently stopped working. On or about May 5, 2010, a loud clicking sound with a green light occurred when it was first plugged in. Then later, changed to a red light that blinked 7 times without picture or sound and has never worked since. I have tried on several occasions to contact Philips tech support by e-mail and by phone but to no satisfaction.
While investigating online, I came to find out that I was not the only consumer with this issue. In fact it seems to be quite common place. There are thousands upon thousand of testimonials reiterating exactly what I had just experienced. This is a fleecing of the American consumer at the highest level and something needs to be done about it.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that Philips has a major mechanical malfunction affecting all of these Plasma TVs. The thing is who or what is going to make them take responsibility for their flawed product because they most certainly are not! The total amount invested for TV and mounting was $2,800.

I come home one night and try to turn on the TV and it flashes this red light and the TV doesn’t turn on. I’m on the verge of moving and can’t afford a new TV especially if I spent $1100 on this damn thing. I called PC Richards and they said my warranty is up and that I would have to pay to repair it I called Phillips and even they only offered repairs for a price. Seriously I will never give Phillips my money unless they secondary name is Sony. I sit up bored at night with no form of entertainment, can’t play my game console, can’t watch a movie, can’t do anything but stare at a black screen. $1100 dollars is probably nothing for a company like Phillips but I’m pretty sure if the complaints keep coming in the won’t have a dime to their name!

Once it happens, I have to wait for an hour to see TV signal again, unfortunately, for only about 30-60 minutes. I hate this piece of junk. Then around three months ago, the entire screen would go completely green and then go back to the regular picture. As of yesterday, the picture is completely and permanently green. You would think Philips would offer some kind of solution, like a recall or offer to fix or replace the TV. Now, I have no TV and I'm out $1,500.00 of my hard earned dollars. Along with $500.00 for a high definition surround sound, $400.00 for my PS3 which is not worth having without HD, the cost of the 3 HDMI cables and the extra money being paid for HD cable box and cable channels and the cost of the blue ray disk I own. With much research, I found that this is a common problem. I removed the power supply board to find that I had 3 capacitors that were swelled up and leaking out the top causing my problem. They know this is a problem and they do not want to own up. I called a local shop that was in business for 27 years, but now is going out of business because he said these TVs have become so disposable. The person I spoke with was either uninformed of this issue or was instructed to avoid it. I was referred to the Philips support page for the model, which was absolutely useless and did not address the issue. However, when you Google (Philips blinking red light) it became apparent that the issue is affecting many consumers who purchased Philips plasma TV's in many different models that use the same underrated or inferior capacitors on the motherboard. Philips has been TV's with a known design flaw that is costly to repair and has a history of repeating. I will be filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and the Kentucky Consumer Protection Agency and the Better Business Bureau.
