We bought our 47-inch Philips LCD TV in 2008. It worked great for a little while. Then about 8 months ago, when watching the TV, the screen would go black but you could still hear the sound. We would shut our TV off and back on and the screen would come back on. Last week, my husband turned it on and it sounded like a bug zapper inside the TV. The screen went black and the house filled with the smell of burning electronics. I called a local repair place in our small town and he said this is the second one of these TVs that he has been asked to repair, but we were lucky because the other one had caught fire. I called Philips customer service and they acted like they had never had a problem reported, which with all these complaints, I know that's not true. We will never buy another Philips product again. They acted like they did not care that this had been happening. I just hope nobody gets hurt or killed by these products.

One week ago, the 47" Philips LCD TV that I purchased at Wal-Mart started making popping noises, and then it got caught on fire. Luckily, I was in the room at the time and was able to disconnect the power before any other damage was done. After researching this problem, I found that this has been going on for quite some time. I have not contacted Philips yet, but after reading several of the many complaints, it is obvious that Philips does not care that it's putting its customers and their families at risk. This is not just a simple picture quality issue and seems to be a very common problem. This needs to be investigated and consumers need to be made aware of the possible hazards with this product. Philips needs to take responsibility for this. “Sorry, your warranty has expired” just isn't good enough when the products you sell burst into flames.

In November 2011, my neighbor and I both bought Magnavox DVDRs. Mine stopped working (no power) and two weeks later, my neighbor's died as well. I called Magnavox warranty department (Stacy) for a refund or a credit to purchase a different Magnavox item. I was told all I can do is pay to have it shipped back and they will send me a new unit. I do not want another obviously defective product, which will only break down in another few months when the warranty is over and I shouldn't have to pay shipping costs for a defective product. Please advise if there is any way to get a refund or credit.

I bought a Magnavox DVD player for a back-up. When my other DVD player quit, I got out the Magnavox. It played one DVD and quit! I sent it to customer service, who habitually put me "on hold" for 17, 26 and 20 minutes, respectively. I was finally told the warranty was out and it just might be. I asked them to examine the unit for wear, which they apparently declined. Imagine paying either $29 or $39 to watch a single DVD. If the product is this sorry, I would imagine the warranty is about the same caliber. I tried to reach the company executives to complain, but they are apparently unreachable. That tells me a lot about what they think of their customers.
If that is an example of the treatment I can expect, then Magnavox is the loser. Also, I won't buy anything else that plugs into a wall from Wal-Mart. They refused to stand behind their crummy product at the start. I have 3 other units from other manufacturers and collectively they played less than 250 hours - so much for "made in China.” I'll just keep my money and do without since owning a defective unit amounts to the same thing. Maybe they will all go broke - they have the right attitude for it.

I got the feeling that the last person I spoke to did not really know much about the issue I had. I was not happy when we were finished. The remote that comes with model number 46PFL5706/F7 and serial number VM1A1143117738 (A17Q8UD) cannot be seen well - even when the lights are on. I am very disappointed with it. The person that talked to me said I could get an after-market controller with bigger numbers. The sizes of the numbers aren’t the problem, and why should I have to buy another controller after spending $800? The numbers are all dark, which makes no sense in my mind since the room you are watching a movie in will more than likely be dark.
The TV has shown some other problems since we had it the last 3 weeks or so. There’s no picture, but the sound was working. I don’t know the technical term, but the top of the screen at times flashes a multicolored bar. I don’t know if that is okay. Friends tell me it’s not on their TVs. When watching regular TV, most HD channels are working fine using the HD box from Comcast. I have to change the brightness and other settings to make the picture clear. But when watching Netflix, I cannot make any adjustments - everything is dark. It wasn’t like that on my older standard TV. Well, I went way further than one question, but I am very disappointed with my first experience with flat panel units.

Our 2-year-old 52" Phillips television is not working and requires a timer control panel. We have tried to find this part all over the country and it is nowhere to be found. Apparently, this is a big problem and everyone needs this particular part! Our television repairman was here for over 3 hours and he has been unable to find the part as well. I have contacted Phillips and you guessed it, there is nothing they can or will do. Their customer service agents just play dumb and said that they understand and they are so sorry. I am very disappointed and would never recommend this brand to anyone. The sad thing is, we have another Phillips television in a different room. Never again will we buy a Phillips anything.

I woke up one morning and my Philips 32" TV would not turn on. I called for repair and after two weeks, I was told they would either replace it with a $440 TV or a check for $250. The service contract cost us $159. They replaced the TV and it is in my estimation a cheaper model than we had. I feel your customer service is rude and not very helpful. And I will never buy a Philips product again nor will I recommend them to anyone.

I received a Phillips Norelco Senso Touch 3D electric shaver this past Christmas as a gift. It lasted 3 months and then wouldn't turn on at all. It just went completely dead. I contacted Phillips in April about a replacement. I was told that I would receive a replacement shaver at no cost via FedEx. I received a shipping notice with the same exact say, and delivery was expected by the end of the week.
I never received the replacement. I contacted Phillips again the next week and was told it would take 7-9 business days. When I told them I already received a shipping notice with a delivery date that had already passed, they just told me to wait 7-9 business days. I waited 13 business days and contacted them again. This time, I was told that they were going to look into the problem and I needed to contact them again in a few hours. I asked if someone could just contact me instead. I was told that wasn't possible and would have to contact them again in a few hours, explain my story again, and they would look up my information. I waited another 5 business days and contacted them again.
Now, it has been 18 business days, almost an entire month; and my shaver has still not shipped. This time, I was informed that Phillips was out of stock and they were expected to receive more stock on June 4. They're out of stock on their over shaver. So I was told I would receive a notice after June 4, when the shaver ships. This is completely ridiculous. At that point, it will have been 1 1/2 month since I placed the original request. I have had to purchase conventional razors in the meantime to shave with, because my $250 electric razor doesn't work and Phillips can't replace it.
Their warranty service is completely horrible. When I contacted them via the online chat, I got a person who is typing in broken English with horrible grammar and spelling. Yet, their name is "Donna," yeah right. This will be the last Phillips product I purchase.

This Philips PFL7403D LCD flat-panel TV is only 8 months old, and it imploded with a pixel damage and spider-like damage due to an internal electronic surge. I waited weeks to get a tech to my house with a full year warranty. The Philips people tried to blame me that I hit the TV screen and that plainly did not happen. They refused to do anything, and I'm stuck with a $1,000 TV that does not work. Philips customer service was not helpful, very rude, and disconcerted about my problem. I had purchased a Philips LED Net TV in March 2011 that wouldn't power off unless it was unplugged. I received a replacement TV that had liquid damage markings on the back of it but worked okay at the time. I contacted Kayla in consumer relations in September 2011. I sent them pictures of my damaged unit and they said they could not send me a new unit because mine was working okay. Now, we're in May 2012 (outside 1 year warranty), and I contacted customer service and they promised to send me a brand new TV even though I was outside warranty. I was given a reference number and a return ELA number to place on the outside of my TV box when I return my defective unit.
Two days later, I got a call from a Jordan in consumer relations who told me that they no longer have my unit but they have a comparable model that they can send me (40PFL4706/F7 that was only an LCD and not an LED like mine). They just needed my approval to send it out to me. About 1 hour later, I got another call from Jason who told me that he cannot send me a model after all because I am out of warranty. I called customer service and spoke to a supervisor by the name of Eric (Rep ID **) who seemed to want to help me out. He placed me on hold for several minutes to speak to consumer relations, only to come back and tell me that they cannot honor their original promise of honoring their replacement TV. He refused to allow me to speak to anybody higher than him and told me to take my complaint to corporate. Needless to say, I will be sending this to corporate even though it seems like I will be wasting my time and energy and will end up with a defective unit.

I am totally sick about these TVs. We built a new home 3 years ago and I bought 4, yes, 4 Philips TVs, 27", 42" and two 47" at once. I bought Philips because I thought it was a good brand name. I only had the old box TVs (still using two after 15 yrs, and they still work great). I have the exact same trouble as I have read over and over here. I have perfect sound, but the picture blacks out. I used to be able to turn on and off and the picture came back. Now all I can get is sound. Both the 47" are doing the exact same thing. I paid $1400.46 each for the 47" TVs. I am so disgusted and so mad. I called Philips and they said, "The warranty is for a year only, so sorry. Try a repair shop." Are you kidding me! I cannot afford these prices again, will never spend a penny on anything they make again.
I think there should be a recall. All these complaints I have read seem to be the exact same problem on the 40" or larger TVs mostly. I think there should be a lawsuit against the public being screwed like this! Forgot to add this note. Last night my husband turned on the TV to see if the picture would come back on. He left for a few minutes and came back to smell burning wires. He unplugged it right away. We had smelled what we thought was burning wires the evening before but didn't think about it being the TV. Wasn't sure where the smell was coming from. Now he has unplugged the main living room and the master bedroom TV. $5000.00 worth of 3-year old Philips TV, I am more than sick about this. We should all band together and sue! There should be a recall. Before someone burns their home down and worse, someone dies in the fire over this. We need help.

Also, there is an adjustment from the remote control that makes the picture much brighter and if used, the TV will overheat to the point that you can feel the heat off from it from a few feet away. About four months ago, we bought a Magnavox TV (32-inch) through Sam's Club as it was a cheap special for $259. We thought it as a good deal so we bought it. After three and one week, the TV went black and silent as we were watching it. I checked the troubleshooting guide along with circuit breakers, plug and cable connections and all to no avail. The TV was non-functional. When I read the manual and saw only a three month guarantee and that it was made in China, I knew this was not good. I was right.
We called customer service and after being put on hold for 48 minutes, we got a service rep who routed us to another rep, who routed us to another rep (you know the drill, can you say runaround?) with whom we discussed the problem. They told us that we were over the three month guarantee period by one week. They also told us that we would have to pay to get it repaired by sending it to them. They would charge us $70 for the service charge and whatever to repair it. They would determine repair costs at that time. They would also send us the boxes for shipment. That person routed us to another person who would get our credit card information. We hung up (as told) and she said that we would get a call soon to get our information (this was just to get us off the line).
We never got a call back. Frankly, no one that we talked with was friendly or helpful. We got nowhere with your "customer service". We called Sam's Club and told them everything and they said they would honor the guarantee and we could make an exchange. We did make an exchange, but we did not pick another one of your products. Would you if you experienced what we experienced? I don't think so. Sam's Club said that they received a number of returns on these TVs and that they were not a good product.
So thanks for nothing. Bad product, bad workmanship (made in China), bad customer service. I will never buy another one of your products again. What would I do if I ever need your customer service again? You have no quality control from overseas. If you did, you would not be accepting such products. If I were you, I would change the customer service culture and have some means of quality control and quality assurance over your products. You are like many corporations in America, that is, go for the cheap labor because that will help your bottom line. Do you pay US federal taxes as a corporation?

Guess what, it was damaged and didn’t work, the box was crushed and when powered on the screen was cracked. I called Philips immediately and was told a claim would be filed with the shipper and I would be contacted in two days. Five days went by and no response. I called to be told, "Oh, the claim was filed after hours and we were going to contact you tomorrow to let you know it will be replaced and you should receive it in 10 -12 days.” Fifteen minutes later, I got a call saying that I first had to ship the TV back to them.

But after several months of this, the TV was cutting out at least 6 or 7 times in a 5 hour period then it increasingly got worse till I heard some frying noise and smoke poured out of the back.
A friend of mine who is a TV service man opened the back and it was the high voltage transformer which you cannot buy alone. Instead you have to purchase the complete power supply which cost several hundred dollars. I had an American made Curtis Mathes TV for 25 years and I think I replaced a few tubes in all that time. Now I understand why they closed their doors. Their TV's were built so well that the consumer just needed one in his lifetime but today's junk that's made in China or in my case, Mexico quality control went out the window when greed by the American companies who prostituted this country to foreign lands for the sake of profit and decided to dupe the American consumer. If you are lucky to get a company representative on the phone, they could care less and just about tell you "Oh, well things like that happen." Well, I know I won't be buying a Phillips anymore. I'll do some research before I buy another foreign TV.

I have had a Phillips TV for 4 years. I called this department and they could not give me the address or the phone number of Phillips TV headquarters directly. They said it was not in warranty anymore and that they could not help as they could not offer their address for "security reasons" and they did not have the corporate phone number even though they worked for them? That was a huge red flag! My complaint was that when investigating this make and model many people had the same complaint and I am thinking it is a defective unit (no picture or sound). They were short and lacked the knowledge or enthusiasm of customer service. I had worked with other companies in the past, but Phillips is by far, the lowest on my list for referral. Do not buy Phillips products, they do not last and have poor customer service. They wanted to push me into buying a refurbished unit and not help with my television repairs.. never again, buyer beware!

We bought a Philips 42" TV in February of 2009 at Sam's Club. We are having the same problem as a lot of other people. We first had a problem a year ago. When we turned the TV off, we had problems getting the TV to turn back on. Yesterday, the picture was on, but the sound was off. We turned the TV off and then on, and the sound returned. Later, in the afternoon, the TV turned itself off and will not come back on. We have unplugged it, installed the updates and tried to hold the power button on. The online technicians with Philips were of no help. Apparently, this is a common problem with this TV, a lot of them purchased about 3 years ago. Philips should do something to fix the problem.

We purchased this TV in late 2007. For several months, it has not been coming on, just ticking for long periods of time and then finally comes on. This week it died completely. We can't afford to keep buying TVs every few years and it certainly isn't affordable or even worthwhile to have them repaired. What has happened to our long-lasting, trustworthy electronics industry?
We are both angry and dissatisfied with this product, and very disgusted to have to pay for delivery and set up of a new TV in addition to the purchase price. We are not physically able to haul it home and hook it up ourselves. We thought "till death do us part" would mean us going, not the TV. To top it off, I will be missing the Super Bowl broadcast on my own TV, while relaxing in my recliner.

I did this twice then came back on in a few seconds. About 3 weeks ago, I turned the TV on and after about 5 minutes the screen went blank again. It has not returned at all. I even told them I would pay for the shipping upfront and did not expect a new TV in return.
The supervisor told me that because I took it to a repair shop to get my son's DVD out that it did not matter that he did not break into the TV to get it out, they would not do anything about it. So I have a $200 TV that the manufacturer will not even look at and they do not care if it is a manufacturer's defect. Consumers be aware, Magnavox does not care if they send you a faulty unit. I bought a 22" LCD Magnavox TV in November 2010. It lasted about 7 to 8 months before the picture became very bright. I contacted Magnavox under warranty and was told I needed my receipt for repair. I asked about the warranty registration card and was told "the warranty card is not for warranty purposes, but in case my TV gets lost or stolen". Of course, I asked why is it called a warranty registration card. I was told "I don't know those cards, don't come to the warranty department so we cannot look one up anyways". I had to find the copy of my receipt because the original had to be sent in with a rebate. It took me a while, but I found the warranty and called back to Magnavox still with a few weeks left in my year warranty.
I was given a fax number to send my receipt to and was told they would then contact me about replacing my TV. After waiting a couple of weeks and not hearing anything, I called again. I am now past my warranty. I was told that they never received my fax, go figure. However, I was told I would be allowed to resubmit it via email this time and because I made the original contact under warranty, it would still be replaced. I received a call from the warranty department within a week of my email only to be told that it was now too late because it had been over a year. And of course, there is no record of me calling the second time with the receipt and being given the fax number.
I was given the runaround just long enough to get me past the year warranty so they would not have to replace their piece of junk product. Best part is the owner's manual specifically states about proof of purchase: "Returning the enclosed card guarantees that your date of purchase will be on file, so no additional paperwork will be required from you to obtain warranty service". I asked the supervisor about this and was told that it's not a warranty registration, but allows the police to contact Magnavox for ownership if the TV is ever stolen and they recover it. I now have a $200 paperweight because that's all a Magnavox product is good for.

Now in Dec 2011, the dreaded blue areas are beginning to reappear, and I am now out of any warranty. Now I can't even if I could afford (be dumb enough to pay) the cost of the panel, considering that I could replace it these days for about $2000. My gripe is with no options to have it repaired, I feel it is a responsibility of Phillips to replace it at little cost with a like size TV. I'd even be willing to pay for a new TV of greater size if I could at least get a coupon, discount or some kind of credit for my TV. I feel as if I bought a lemon, seems like a day after the warranty expired, it broke and there's no way to repair it, so now I have a 300lb x 63" x 36" x 5" paper weight.

I purchased a 32 MF338B LCD two years ago. A couple of days ago, screen went dead and no voice. I contacted Magnavox and was told that it was out of warranty and there was nothing they could do. When I complained that a TV should last longer than two years, I was told again there was nothing they could do. I really think they are having some kind of problem with these TVs and they should have a recall of them!
I will never purchase any Magnavox product again! I have never been treated so badly by a company before--it's like they could care less about the consumer. When I told him I was reading a lot of complaints about their product, I was told that "anyone one can say anything, that doesn't make it true". I purchased a new 40" TV in late February 2011. From the start, the picture was really pixelated and there was a "roaring type of sound" that would fade in and out. I decided that I could make do with this to avoid the hassle of having to return and exchange. Then, just this past week (October 2011), the thing went haywire. The input channels started constantly changing, which made watching anything impossible. I thought maybe the TV was just hot or had a temporary spaz, so I got up and manually shut it off and turned it back on.
When I turned it back on, there was all these different colored vertical lines and a spot in middle of the TV down at the bottom that looked like something had broken internally. Being that it was past 90 days since purchase, I couldn't take it back to the store. So I called Philips directly. After explaining in-depth several time to several different operators, they didn't know what to do and had to refer me to a higher up who would have to call me back in no more than 2 business days. Late on day 3, I received this 2-day call. I was given a number for a local repair technician (when I asked for directions, they informed me that they didn't have an actual address for this guy! What kind of business practice is that?).
We then took the TV to this guy because we really had no other choice unless we wanted to pay out of our own pocket for repairs. This guy decided that it has had impact damage and forwarded info on to Philips. I was on the couch watching the thing when it went crazy, so I refused to accept that it had impact damage as I know I didn't hit it or my newborn child, who was also here at that time. They basically called me a liar. Why offer a 12-month warranty if they won't honor it on something that was only 8 months and still had 4 months left on "supposed" warranty?

It has already been a couple of nights now that we haven't been able to watch a program through without it constantly going out. I am trying to watch the World Series and the blacking out has gotten so bad that as soon as the screen comes to - it blacks out and keeps doing so! I had to turn it off!

We turned it off and turned it back on a few minutes later, and it would work for a while and happens again. This went on for about a week or so. On Sept 30th, smoke spewed out from behind the TV that filled the whole room while emitting a plastic burning smell. I quickly turned of and unplugged the TV. I was totally shaken as I've never heard nor encountered such a scary thing, realizing this could have easily caught fire. I called Philips customer care center who ironically, was not willing nor able to give any service or care. Instead they gave me a service center around my neighborhood to contact informing me that I'll have to pay for the onsite diagnostic visit. I had no choice but to do that just to find out what the problem was and paid $85 for that onsite service.
When the technician opened the back of the TV, the power supply and cable were all burnt. The technician was shocked to see the horrible damage. He took pictures and said he will give us an estimate for the repair which came out to be $627.28. Since it is no longer under warranty, I am now stuck with a damaged TV that I paid $1699.99 for just barely three yrs ago. This is extremely outrageous and irresponsible of Philips to knowingly continue to manufacture and sell these units instead of recalling or replacing these defective/cheap parts when so many consumers have similar complaints.
I've contacted Costco where I bought this TV from asking them not to sell any Philips TVs because they are a fire hazard that are waiting to burn the house down, as well as kill people. Looks like I am like many other folks that have filed a complaint about Philips TVs that have screens going black. I purchased a Philips 47-inch TV, model 47PFL3603D/27 and serial number YA1C0817011535, from Walmart just over 2 years ago (no longer under warranty). For just over a year now, occasionally the screen goes black. I quickly learned that by turning the TV off and back on again, the problem would correct itself, sometimes for weeks, sometimes for seconds.
Today, the screen went black and while black, I heard electrical arching which was immediately followed by a plastic burning smell. I immediately unplugged the TV from a surge protector. I, too, called Philips at 866-310-0787, spoke to Tyrell (call reference number 651089) and explained the situation to him.
I was offered to purchase a refurbished TV, which I declined, as he agreed he wouldn't be able to tell me the history of that particular TV. He told me since my TV was not under warranty, there wasn't anything he could do. I explained about the numerous complaints on file here and his response was that the overall number of complaints about this problem was below 1% of the TV's sold of this kind. Therefore Philips doesn't intend to take any action to correct this problem.
I, like many folks, can't afford to immediately go out and spend $1,000 on a new TV. Not in this economy. The fact that others have had this screen blacking out problem, which seems to transpire into eventually catching on fire, gives me concern. Luckily for me, it didn't actually catch on fire. It just arched and smelled of burnt plastic, as my 2 young children were watching it at the time.
Obviously, Philips' disregard for my household safety and that of my family, not to mention their making a product that is seemingly a 2-year disposable item (too expensive to be disposable), will prevent me for purchasing their brand of TV again.

While still under the extended warranty plan, the television screen is now going black every five minutes. The TV seems to shift modes and make popping noises when I turn it off and back on again. I called the number provided 877-968-6391, and Wal-Mart informed me that I was still under their extended plan for one month and they scheduled an appointment for me with Sartor TV.
They provided me with a phone number for Sartor TV if I had any questions. I stayed home from work the day that Wal-Mart scheduled the service for me. I became concerned when half of the day passed and no one showed up. I called the number that Wal-Mart provided me with and spoke with the folks at Sartor TV who said that they had no appointment for me! I called the number to the Wal-Mart service department again. The rep seemed concerned and patched me through to someone at Sartor TV who asked me about the problems with my TV, confirmed that he was ordering parts and would be out on Saturday (my day off), to make the repairs. I called the Friday before the scheduled date of repair and the folks at Sartor TV took my number and promised to call me back. They didn't. I called the folks at Wal-Mart again and asked to speak to a supervisor.
I wanted to take my TV back to the store for an exchange equal to the value of the TV that I purchased from them. The supervisor "Jeff" told me that this was not going to happen. It simply was not an option. I would have to let them get someone out to repair my TV. I told Jeff that I wanted him to call Sartor TV and confirm my "appointment" for Saturday. Jeff put me on hold for about 30 seconds, said that he tried Sartor TV and that he got the machine. I asked Jeff for an address where I could send a certified letter of complaint. Jeff refused an address and said that he could take the complaint. I hung up with Jeff and called Sartor TV again. I got them on the phone. They told me that parts had come in but that they did not have me on the schedule!
I spoke with Jacob at Sartor who then promised that he would call me this Saturday (5-21-2011) to schedule a time to come on Monday. I highly doubt that he will! I truly believe that it is Wal-Mart’s intention to deprive me of my money or a lasting repair. I believe that they are working together with Sartor TV to delay the repair to my defective TV as long as possible, then make a poor repair, leading to a faulty product that will, by the time that it is repaired, be out of warranty. Someone please advise me where to go and who to talk to! Phillips has had thousands of defective LCD TV's, and Wal-Mart appears to desire to be out from under their paid responsibility to ensure that I have a working television.

I purchased a 42" Philips TV online through Walmart.com. One month after the purchase date, I had an issue with the TV that resulted in Walmart sending me a TV that was supposed to be new. It turned out that the TV was manufacturer refurbished although I was left to believe that the TV was new. 1 year after I received the refurbished TV from Walmart the TV will no longer turn on. I called Walmart to have it replaced for a second time and they stated that they do not have a record of replacing the TV the first time in March 2010. I contacted the manufacturer (Philips) and they told me that they are unable to replace the television because it was refurbished. I was never aware that I was sent a refurbished TV from Walmart, and now Walmart is saying that they will not replace the TV for the problem that they caused, and Philips is stating that the warranty is expired and they cannot replace it as well. The TV was also on a surge protector when it stopped working.

My television was blacking out occasionally. When we would turn if off and then back on, it would work for a while. We bought it in December of 2007 and the black-outs began 6 months after our 1 year warranty had expired. This happened quite often until recently. Last week it caught fire! I emailed the company to let them know of the problem (we could have lost our home or our lives) and received a generic response:
"Thank you for your e-mail to Philips.Thank you for taking the time to contact Philips about our product and your recent experience with it. We want you to know that our customers mean a great deal to us, and we take your feedback seriously. We regret any gap between our performance and your expectations of us.Thank you for contacting Philips Consumer Lifestyle. "
What a joke. This is the response I would expect if I had emailed to say my TV was making an odd noise, not that it caught on fire. It is quite obvious that they are lacking in the customer service department and may not even take the time to read emails sent in. I will never buy another Philips product of any kind again. This is not due to the fire, but to their pathetic response to my email. If this is the best they have to offer, I can easily find better.

I bought a new Phillips Home Theater System from Walmart in May of 2010. In February of 2011, the DVD player began to malfunction. When I called Phillips, they told me that they would send me a replacement system but I had to fax all necessary information and give them my credit card number.
Two weeks later, I received the replacement unit via UPS. The DVD player and the large speaker were damaged and would not work. When I called customer service and spoke to ** and **, they told me that I had to wait for the claim to be resolved with UPS first before they could speak on replacing the system for the second time.
I have returned the original system and have the damaged system in my media room. I will not recommend a Phillips product to anyone. I also wish I had looked on this site before buying a substandard product. Don't buy Phillips!

Our Philips LCD sent out fire sparks and smoke! We purchased a Philips LCD 47" TV, model number 47PFL7403D/F7, two years ago at Sam's Club. It started having the screen black out problems a couple of months ago. This week, we turned on the TV and we heard many popping sounds (like small fireworks), and we saw fire sparks shooting out of the bottom of the TV. Smoke was billowing out of the top. We immediately disconnected the TV from the power source and cable box. We called the Customer Service number located on the website. The two reps I spoke with offered a repair on our current TV or a refurbished TV if a repair would not work. I do not want to keep a TV in my home that has previously shot out fire sparks and smoke, as they cannot guarantee that the problem will not happen again. Also, without knowing the history of the refurbished TV, there is no way to guarantee that it would not catch fire either.
I tried to talk with the reps about this, but they apologized and said that the manufacturer's warranty had run out. My question was, "Are fire sparks and smoke a normal feature of the Philips TV?". The rep answered no (of course!) and so I explained that I wanted to speak with someone at the company that would stand behind this product and make it right, without putting a potential fire hazard back in my home. The reps would only give me a PO Box for the Complaints Department and would not provide me with another phone number or address of a Philips executive willing to stand behind their product. A television that has fire sparks and smoke is not safe to have in any home!

This is my second email. The first one was over 10 days ago. They even sent me a replacement unit on Jan 10, 2011 which I was told by Kayla when she received my necessary $1.00 to a credit card, so she could expedite sending out the replacement 8100 Philips sound bar. I had recently found out it had a production date of 2008. Now Philips is saying that they don't even have to honor the 1-year warranty attached to the equipment because I purchased it from a different merchant, which is amazon.com who I have done business with for the last 2 years and always had great customer service in every aspect.
Probably you have never heard of such a statement being made that the warranty doesn't follow the item, it follows if you only bought it direct from Philips and not any of the hundreds of retail stores that stock their electronic equipment for retail. Anyway, getting past that, after the 10 days, I now have waited 8 business days and did not receive any item from Philips. I called and got Kayla on the phone. She apologized and felt embarrassed that 3 other agents told me the package was sent and was stuck in Georgia from bad weather, that now being the 20th, she is sure it was put through with the correct code and no doubt in the world that I would not have it in 5-7 business days again. I waited on the 7th day again and no package. By this time, I have made several other phone calls to the customer service people, inquiring about the whereabouts of my sound bar.
I also hand written a letter to Philips headquarters on the 20th, to tell them how misled I was about a simple return under the given one-year warranty that was stated in the paperwork when purchased. But I got no reply to either of the two phone numbers I gave, nor to my email address or my return address. And now I got Kayla a third time. Now corporate sent an email to Kayla stating that they sent it to me. It took another 7 business days and when the UPS came to my door, instead of the original package, I received a one foot by one foot box weighing approximately 2 lb. I knew something obviously was wrong and I didn't want to refuse it because I would have no proof to discuss what I received. I went online to check the 8100 Sound bar with separate woofer, It costs $300.00 to $500.00 depending on the retail store. The other model that was sent to me is very identical and comparable. And that unit, which is MODELHSB2351/F7B, costs $50.00 up to around $280.00.
Anyway, the next day after receiving the item, I called back Kayla and spoke to her and her boss William **. Even though they were both what appeared to be trying to help me, they said they don't make my model anymore. This also sounded wrong, because Philips own personnel and many retailers say otherwise, and nothing has replaced it. Philips is just saying, even though every review on the 8100 was fantastic, that corporate would not even try to get me a refurbished or used one that works. They are asking me to take it or leave it and that they did not have to give me anything, and they were just being nice.

Two years ago, I bought a 42'' LCD Philips TV, and now, it does not turn on. I called Philips and they advised me to take it to a repair shop. It only comes with a one year warranty so I have to pay for the repair charges which could be well over $250, if not much more. I searched my TV problem online and found that it is a common problem, so many consumers have complained about the same issue with Philips TV.

We purchased a Philips LCD 47" TV - Model 47PFL3603D/27 and after 1 1/2 years, it started going dimmer and then completely went black. If we shut the television off and back on, it would be okay but the amount of times we had to do it got to be crazy. Finally we called in a TV repairman and he said it was a known issue, a loose connection. He tapped the back of the TV and it would happen. All he had to do was solder the part and now the television works fine. The best part was he only charged $69.

I purchased a Sound Bar Model 8100 for just under $300.0. Within the one-year warranty, six months after working, the DVD player stopped working altogether. I called and left many messages, but got no return call. I had gotten ill and have been in and out of Quakertown St. Lukes Hospital for chronic disease problems so I could not keep giving attention to this. Two months after the DVD stopped working, the place that you plug in your cable to connect to the television for the sound would not hold cable anymore, and I had to tape it to work, but the tape kept falling off and lost its connection.
On the 10th of Jan 2011, I called Kayla and she spent 20 minutes on the phone so she could finally get $1.00 credited to my credit card so she could send out a replacement that should have gotten here in 5 to 7 business days. On the 20th, nothing came. I sent a letter to the corporate office as I was told to and of course no reply, either by phone or mail. Then I called back twice at least every day. I got Kayla by chance again on the 20th. I was told the package was stuck in Georgia. So I called to the UPS in Georgia and was told that there was no package ever sent. Then when I got Kayla on phone again, she admitted to me that she put in the wrong code and it was never sent but she swore up and down that it was corrected on the 20th and for sure I would have it by 5 to 7 business days from the 20th. Well it's now Jan 31 and I still have no sound bar and to make matters worse, they, from day 1, has not been able to give me a tracking number because they said their shipping department is too busy to put one in the computer.
So now I'm told after approximately 20 phone calls that it has been emailed to corporate office. I just got off the phone after an hour with some very arrogant so-called manager and I said to let me speak to Kayla if she were there but he said no, that he's not going to transfer me to waste her time, that there's no point. I said it will make me feel better since he can't get me my working sound bar and he can't reach anyone, at least Kayla was trying to be helpful but the manager again said no.
I am not well, I don't need this kind of absurd customer treatment and to make matters worse I am on disability, $300.00 is a lot of money for me to have nothing, but a non-working product to show for it. I'm sure you will agree that this whole way of doing business is terrible and should not be allowed. It has been almost a month already. I really don't want to ever do business with this company again. At this point, I just need my refund as soon as possible so I can replace it with another brand of sound bar.

My $2000 42" plasma TV, less than 5 years old, developed horizontal bars approximately 4" wide with alternating snow over the picture in the background. I called the CS number from the manual and they tried to sell me a "reconditioned TV at a discount". I got the name of the closest "authorized" repair shop and took it 45 miles for estimate for repair. He called back a couple of days with an estimate of almost $400 for a couple drives out. I declined repair, picked up the unit and then tried to get repair schematic but Philips does not have it available. I think their "service group" is a private party contracted to intercept their complaints as they seem totally unaware of any Philips connections. The online "certified repairmen online" will take your question and answer it for a fee if you provide your credit card info in advance. So basically, I have a $2000 piece of junk that cost me over $400 per year to use and no way of accessing info from Philips to try and fix it myself.

I purchased a 50" Plasma TV in 2007. In the beginning of 2010, it started losing one half of the screen or the other. Just the top half would be visible and the bottom was black or vice versa. Philips suggested I could get it repaired by a local vendor at a cost of approximately $1500. What? For a TV that was about 3 years old. Unbelievable!
I would like to take this opportunity to suggest to others seeing this on this site, regarding this and similar products, what I just did. I copied this entire complaint page, with all of the complaints into an email and sent it to investor.relations@philips.com. Maybe if enough of us flood their inbox they will get the hint.

I bought a 42" Plasma Philips TV in 2008. Just last week it stopped working. We are very technologically savvy, but there is absolutely nothing that can be done to solve the problem. The LED light blinks 6 times in a row and the TV will not turn on. We have been told by Philips customer representatives that there is a problem with the capacitor and service board. This will be more than $300 to fix, not including the cost of us renting a car (we live in Manhattan and do not have a car). They also offered us a used Philips TV for $400, which is hysterical. New flat screens are only about $400 with companies that have better reputations. Why would we buy a used Philips TV if ours only lasted 3 years?
Do not buy Philips products. The costumer service is terrible and the products are of poor quality.

There needs to be a recall! Samsung has the same problem and I believe they are fixing their TVs free of charge! In the book for my TV, it says, "We'll do everything in our power to keep you happy with your purchase for many years to come". All they do is rip people off.

We purchased a 42" Philips flat screen almost exactly two years ago. A few months ago, the picture started to dim and brighten randomly. It didn't usually last long. Then a few weeks ago, we turned it on and had sound but no picture. We turned it on and off a few times and it started working again. Now, the picture will not come back on no matter what we do. We called Philips to see if they would back their product and they said no. If it's past the one year warranty, there was nothing they could do. They said it was probably "wear and tear".
Wear and tear on a 2-year old product? You must be joking! We are very unhappy with Philips and will not buy another product of theirs ever again!
