Don't join Planet Fitness. Don't give them checking account information. They could use credit card information, but choose not to. They will not allow you to join without giving them checking account information, whether in person or online. Biggest complaints about them all revolve around billing irregularities and problems getting cancellation requests honored. It is far, far simpler to sign up, than to cancel, "no commitment" notwithstanding. Also rudeness and judgment, in the "judgment-free zone".
Requiring a checking account information is a red flag that they have too many billing disputes. You can't reverse a draft on a checking account, through your bank, but you can dispute and reverse a credit card transaction, this way. Even closing a checking account does not relieve the account holder from liability for future check drafts, but closing a credit account, does. Their billing practices are scammy - even arguably fraudulent.
There is no corporate customer service function; all customer service is through the club facility, only. No effective recourse or up-channel for people dissatisfied with service at their club; even the website "Contact Us" link, redirects you to your club's service desk. Like it or lump it; they'll keep charging you, either way, and you can't make them stop, or make them provide satisfactory service, short of a lawsuit. Stay away.

I honestly don’t know what all these people are complaining about. I remember very clearly when I signed up in October of this year that they said there will be a $39 charge one time a year. I have the black club membership so mine is $22 a month. If you break down $39 over 12 months that Amounts to $3.25 a month. So basically You’re $22 (rounded) membership a month goes to a whopping $25 a month. Are you kidding me people? Where can you go to a gym for $25 a month and have access to what you have with Planet Fitness? I just left a “swankier” gym that cost me $39 a month and an initiation fee. And they didn’t have half of what PF has. Have you thought at all about what it would cost to pay a personal trainer each time you wanted some individual attention?
Well if you don’t know, here in Charleston SC, they charge $45 for 30 minutes. At PF, the group classes 9 times out of 10, are no more than 3 people (where I am) and on occasion it has been only me! But even if the class of maxed out, you still have room to move and the trainers make sure you are working. And finally. The equipment is top notch and they have everything known to man. So before you start squawking about money, look at what you are getting for far less than somewhere else. My only suggestion for PF to avoid confusion with this yearly fee, would be to advertise that just as I explained. Broken down over a year and the minimal amount it truly would add to your bill if it were blended into your monthly payment. My hats off to you PF. Great experience for me and I’m down 5 inches and 5 pounds!

The problem with PF is they are greedy sleazy company. They auto bill annual fee without notice and doubled it to $42 second year. Paid $60 in month of October. Went to cancel and no rebate of annual dues. Con artist rely on contract which favors them and not customers. So good to this customer. So rude the receptionist took my pass key and I still have 2 weeks left. They don't care about their customers. If they did they would give part of annual fee back. They are big losers for their policies. Pretty bad they don't care about bad reviews rather than work with customers. Tear up your contract PF - you suck - bad business - skip this club - a bunch of losers who take your money and hide behind a contract. Pitiful for any American. Don't sign up to be ripped off. They don't tell you of price changes - just read your contact 1000 times so you won't be scammed by lazy customer service rep. Stay away from these scammers - cheap ass club.

I was doubled charged my monthly fee and when I wanted to dispute it with Greg ** (Greg.** a planetfitness.com) in Billing at **. He was very unprofessional and had very poor customer service skills. He didn't want to hear what I had to say and hung up on me. When I called back to speak to his manager, the lady who answered the phone told me there is no one else to speak to but him and she was rude as well and she stated I can only be routed to his voicemail. He followed up with an email to protect himself because he knew he was wrong but problem still was not resolved. So I contacted my bank to dispute the charge and change my debit card and debit card number. My bank stated numerous bankers complained about Planet Fitness billing department. Anyway, I give Planet Fitness in East Orange ZERO STARS - very very dissatisfied.

Joined Planet Fitness the end of September for a membership special of $3.95. Within a week's time I was charged $22 for the month of October. The very first of November my account was charged an additional $40 plus another $22 for my monthly membership. When I called to ask why my card was charged $60 she informed me that the $40 was a yearly membership fee on top of my $20 a month membership fee. How is it $22 a month if I'm being charging an extra $40 a year membership fee and if I cancel it before my year is up it's additional $58. She said that was in my agreement. Sure enough I pull up my agreement form which I did not receive when I signed up. It says that I will be charged the $40 a year membership fee plus there was a $58 cancellation fee. I have seen that when I signed up online I would not have signed up. I don't understand how it can be $22 a month membership fee plus an additional $40 a year membership fee.

Unwilling to refund annual fee - even though the member is a vulnerable adult and I am her legal guardian. When I stated this, I said asked for membership to be cancelled and fee refunded. I was told, "We have a picture of her holding signed agreement so she knew about the fee." Even when I explained under guardianship she is unable legally sign contracts, they refused to refund the fee. I've repeatedly called the corporate office but no one answers!!

I allowed my grandma to sign up for a membership with my bank info and Planet Fitness kept billing my account so I spoke with the ASSISTANT manager and he was extremely rude with me. At first he said I could come up there and take my info off and then he said he never said that. I threatened to call police and he said the police is on their side. I don’t’ know if that was a racist comment or he just trying to keep from having negative attention. I will never deal with Planet Fitness again. By the way, it's the Planet Fitness in Burton Michigan.

I was a member of Planet Fitness for a few months until they started kicking me out of the gym because they claimed we weren't paying the monthly bill. The account statements showed that money was being taken from the account and the bill was in fact being paid. They claim we are not paying when we are and won't let us use the gym anymore. It's almost like they just want more money.
They sign up people and then in order to get more people into the gym they keep out the ones that are already paying. Why pay for something you can't use? I'm glad that I never gave them my bank information and that instead a friend of mine did because had I given them my bank information I believe they would have scammed me as well.

Informed by both the sales rep and Manager that this would be a 12 month contract and no hidden costs or joining fees. I just had to pay for my tag. Surprise I was tied into a 24 month contract and levy fees, the call centre is pathetic and the manager at Planet Fitness Fourways can only repeat "But you signed for it." Staff are clearly trained to be dishonest and trap people into long term contracts.

Be prepared if you're a "fit" individual that you WILL be judged. Both fit shaming and fat shaming are two very serious things and neither should ever be tolerated. It's uncalled for, especially at a gym that screams "judgment free" when that is not the case. Body shaming, chastising, and stereotyping makes people feel uncomfortable and objectified. How is my body type indicative of the quality of my soul or what type of person I am?
After 8 months without issues, we were asked to leave over a shirt that was certainly within dress code. The real issue didn't even lie within clothing, it was clear judgment of physique. Meanwhile it's ok for skinny women to walk around in sports bras, yet not ok for men to wear sleeveless shirts? Does that sound like "judgment free" to you? Sounds both sexist and hypocritical. The one "problematic" shirt in particular has been worn over a hundred times to the same gym by my husband, yet suddenly became an issue with the assistant manager. Please, by all means, check the cameras, we're in there and he's in THAT shirt many times. He even asked the head manager when we initially joined if the shirt was ok and she approved, hence why he wore it all the time. Never once had an issue until she came along and it seemed more like a personal vendetta rather than rule enforcement.
If you're going to have rules, they're for EVERYONE, not some. I felt targeted, harassed, and embarrassed over this matter. It's evident it wasn't the shirt. This seemed more like a personal issue. This gym has double standards and clearly has a stigma against certain body types. I cancelled my membership immediately because I could foresee this being an ongoing issue because of sheer envy, not policy.
It's important to know that Planet Fitness has decided to handle the matter by blocking me from their page. I feel very disappointed how the issue was handled after being a member for a while without any issue, but people need to know that there are double standards and there is clear judgment against targeted individuals. As for the targeting? When people make comments about "fit shaming" or any type of body shaming, they need to know that someone is on the receiving end of your comments. You may choose to think what you want about them, but the reality is you know nothing about what it’s like to walk in their shoes. In 2017, why are we judging people based on appearance?

I finally noticed when they hit my account for a $40 dollar annual fee. I was then told that your yearly membership renews automatically after it expires, huh???
I had not been at the gym for 10 months, so to try to work things out, I asked for a 10 month membership not for free, but I had already paid into and they can see on their computer I have not been there for 10 months. That was denied so I cancelled at the gym, and now I have a company called ABC Financial emailing me saying I owe $51.00 past due amount because I disputed the $41.00 annual fee. Now I am forced to go to my bank and change my account number. I will never give my account number to any gym membership again. So beware of this activity. When you sign up for 1 year it won't cancel unless you go into the location and sign, and then beware they may hit your account for more money.

Are you serious. I feel that as a disabled person my HIPAA rights were violated and the disability act.
I asked for the manager and was told she was on vacation. I asked if she needed a Dr note to come back to work and was told yes she needed a Dr note to come back after a vacation. Are you kidding me. I have been lied to and lied to. I told them before I even signed my contract I may need to freeze my account for a personal medical reasons and was told, "No problem. Just tell us." I was not told of needing a Dr note or anything else. This is wrong to be lied to and even giving a reason for freezing it. It's none of their business. Very judgmental, rude staff, and particularly management. Have a container of water that is too big, because you get very thirsty during workouts? Not allowed here. Accidentally drop some weights or grunt from an extra effort? Not allowed here. Overcrowding has forced you to use stations in the "traffic light room"? Not allowed, management will come to kick you out, even if you are the only one in the room. I've been going to gyms for 30 years without anything like the nightmare experience that I had at the Lake Mary location in the Orlando Florida area. I will never step foot in another PF gym. I am very dissatisfied with Planet Fitness! I realize that there is an annual fee charge and I don't dispute this. What I DO object to is the fact that this company who is nationwide, not some little mom & pop shop can't afford to mail out a reminder that my annual fee is due soon, or for that matter in this day and age, send an e-mail to people pertaining to this matter! I recently have had a setback and am on a strict budget and now I bounced my account because I forgot that this fee was due at this time! And then to have the girl-manager (I think she was a manager) tell me "well you signed the contract and that tells you that you will be charged annually!" That is when I lost my cool! I looked at her and said, "Do you remember something a year from now without a reminder?" I truly feel that this company should be held responsible for their negligence!!! As of today I have canceled my membership.

I joined Planet Fitness in the spring of 2015. Over the last two years, I've never used the membership but kept it just in case. I was charged the annual fee last week and decided that since I don't use the membership, I would cancel it. The problem is that when I called Planet Fitness to get my membership ID, the receptionist, **, was somewhat callous and most certainly unfriendly. ** even went so far as to someone else, without excusing herself, while I was speaking.
** put me on hold then gave the call to her manager **, who tried to pretend as if he didn't know what the call was about. (This is **, how can I help you?) I told ** he should know what the call was concerning, and this immediately refreshed his memory. ** had the same, matter-of-fact, blase attitude that ** had. Here I had just spent $300.00 on a membership that I didn't use, and the staff couldn't show a little professional courtesy when I'm trying to cancel my membership? I wonder how the Planet Fitness experience would have been with that kind attitude managing the place? If there was an online cancellation, like many other businesses, I wouldn't have had to be bothered with ** or **'s attitudes. Planet Fitness 3614 Indianola Ave Columbus, Ohio 43214.

I have had a black card membership (the highest you can get) for over a year now. At first I liked it a lot. The free tanning was really nice, as well as being able to bring guests whenever I wanted. Recently however, policies have changed. I am canceling my membership as soon as humanly possible. To start, their tanning is far more strict than any tanning company I have ever used. I hardly ever tan, mainly before any sort of formal I have with my sorority or something of the sort. But when I want to, it's always a huge hassle. You have to sign up to tan on a computer that already has predetermined times to pick from. So even if you got there at 12:30 and wanted to tan, if the time slot was for 12:46 you would have to wait until then to tan even if no one was in the booth.
Not only this, but I only use the level 4 beds because they are stand-up booths. The rest of their booths that are the kind you lay down in are disgusting and the staff does a horrible job of cleaning them. One of my friends actually acquired ringworm from one of their beds. The other large issue I have is the guest issue. I pay extra to be able to bring a guest, however I am limited on who I can even bring.
I have a 16-year-old step brother who I would love to take to the gym with me, but I cannot take him because he needs to be 18 to be a guest. Either that or he needs to accompany his parent, and have his birth certificate on hand to be reviewed. BIRTH CERTIFICATE?! Yet I was told that at 16 he can get his own membership and go himself. But he can't be a guest. It is complete **. And now I am going to be even more frustrated when I try and cancel my membership and have trouble with that, as does everyone else that tries to cancel. I would not recommend ANYONE to Planet Fitness. The hassle and rules are NOT worth a ** gym.

As a gym goer myself, I just recently switched to Planet Fitness. I have been to multiple gyms, and I know many people who own companies, and I can tell you - A lot of these reviewers are silly/wrong. Look, here's the deal: NO company wants to let you out of a contract that they are not legally obligated to let you out of, and customers OFTEN seem to get VERY UPPITY AND ANGRY when that happens. However, that does not mean the business did anything illegal, unethical or wrong.
Also, Sandy is ridiculous. She said "I am going to file a class action lawsuit" because someone called her stupid? First of all, that's freedom of speech, even if it pissed her off. She can quit the gym or post a bad review. She can't "file a class action lawsuit". (Well, I suppose technically she can, but no lawyer would take the case on commission only, and her case would get laughed out of court immediately.) Secondly, Sandy SHOULD have read the contract. THE PERSON WAS RIGHT. Yes the employee was rude, but honestly, AS A CUSTOMER, IF I WAS STANDING THERE, I WOULD HAVE BEEN CHEERING FOR THE EMPLOYEE. Stupid people who cannot take responsibility for their own actions and the contracts they voluntarily signed, annoy the crap out of me.
If you sign up for a gym and legally agree to 12 months, then pay the 12 months, you cheapos. IN MY OPINION... This gym is overall pretty good - very good value for the money. My only complaints are that they don't allow people to work out really hard, which sometimes does include dropping weights or loud breathing. I think that's a stupid rule. However, I have found that the actual employees never "enforce" that rule, (Therefore, I am assuming that as long as nobody is PURPOSELY being rude and obnoxious, that they won't mind a guy or girl just working out hard). So it isn't THAT big of a deal, but still annoying.
Another small complaint is they need more equipment - most of these gyms miss an isolated calf raise, a free weight squat rack, and a bench for bench press. Like look, I get the gym doesn't want to be intimidating or bullying, AND I SUPPORT THAT - but nobody is going to feel "bullied" by someone simply doing a free weight bench press, alright, people? Especially if they do it respectfully.
I will admit, as a former athlete who recovered from a couple surgeries and is just now getting back into the game, I LIKE the fact that I don't feel judged here and I can recover from my injuries (hip injury) at my pace without re-injuring myself. I DISLIKE that when I am doing something that ISN'T INJURED (such as doing upper body workouts) that I feel there isn't always the best equipment, and that I am slightly worried about "making too much noise or being disruptive" which is really kind of a dumb thing for a gym to outlaw, as long as it's not done with bad intentions. Lastly: the good thing is this gym has MASSAGE CHAIRS and HYDRO (WATER) MASSAGE CHAIRS, and A TANNING BED, all for the $20 a month, which is excellent.

I have spoken to several people at the Fayetteville location and they gave me an email that was not valid for complaints. So I have been paying fees for all this time and I'm unable to get this taken care of. I was told I had to pay another fee to cancel. But when I tried, I was told I had to wait 90 day and I could only visit this new site 5 times in the month. A couple weeks later I was charged an additional $20 fee on top of my monthly fee. I called and they told me it was a 1 time sign on fee. A month later I decided to cancel so I called and got the specifics around how to cancel. I did exactly what I was told, sending the certified letter on Sept 6.
On Sept 16 I was charged my monthly fee. I called for 3 days and no answer. Emailed customer service and got an auto response telling me to call the site. Today someone finally answered and told me they would have to look through their pile of cancellations. He came back to the phone and told me he found it and would talk to his manager about canceling. He called me back 5 minutes later to inform me I had a $58 cancellation fee so I would need to resend my letter with the $58 before they could cancel. Men do not belong in the women's locker rooms and women do not belong in the men's locker rooms... no matter how gender dysphorically confused they are.
I do not want to see a naked man other than my husband. I do not want to have a man see me naked other than my husband. You're accommodating a (ENABLING) a small percentage of folks (with a mental issue) at the expense of the majority. You are not considering the values of the greater part of the population. You are also opening the door for those who are sexually perverted, the opportunity to LEGALLY enter your locker rooms and do the disgusting things they do. Just like Target, you are a perverted company that enables this behavior. Enabling isn't helping. I tell everyone about your nasty policy because you don't. I have belonged to Planet Fitness in Newport KY and Middletown Ohio for almost 6 years... Mike is the owner of both establishments. I have complained to management and the owner himself about the music being extremely loud and a chemical they used for cleaning the floors during business hours. First I enjoy music in fact loud music at that but when you and all the other customers are trying to listen to your own music and having to turn up the volume to the highest setting and potentially causing damage to your ears then it becomes a health hazard. Second a gym is about health and not having to worry about inhaling toxic chemicals when working out. They would wash the floors at the peak hour and the strong odor permeated the air and I didn't want to inhale that while working out due to the fact that I got toxic poisoning before and am very susceptible to getting ill.
I have brought all of this to the owner's attention and the manager as well as their district manager all who have been not very accommodating except for Dalton the gym manager. It got so bad after the way in which I was spoken to so rudely by the district manager that I went on Middletown Planet Fitness's website to make a complaint. Today I was working out again the music extremely loud and asked Dalton the gym manager if he could turn it down in which he was accommodating. However I noticed the owner Mike show up and noticed the music was loud again. When I approached him about the music... He said "No it's at a reasonable volume" and that he has heard about my complaints and that he doesn't care... I let him know I am a paying customer and he said "I don't care. I do not need you as a customer."
I got so upset and could not believe a owner talking to me like he was first that an owner would talk to me with such disrespect. I have been in customer service for over 30 years and could not fathom a owner talking to me a woman like he did. I would never speak to anyone like that. A customer is what makes your business. I was so upset that I guess I started to point my finger and he said "Stop pointing your finger at me or I will have you removed from the premises and cancel your membership." I said "You can't do that." He said "Yes I can. It's cancelled" and that I cannot work out at any of his clubs and said if I do not leave he will have me arrested. He kept going on and on being a real ass and I said how could he represent Planet Fitness organization because it's a franchise.
I told him that I tried contacting the headquarters and couldn't get through and he sat there and mocked me and called me a liar and was telling me "I find that hard to believe. You couldn't contact someone" and telling me he has never had to cancel a membership before except for one other person. It was retaliation for me posting a complaint on the website and he didn't like that I did that. Any company that tolerates this sort of treatment from a owner who represents a company as big as Planet Fitness should not be in customer service. He was belittling and condescending throwing his power around in front of the other customers in which this took place.
This company is a complete joke. There is no one you can talk to. I tried call their corporate office and you can't talk to anyone. How can a company treat people like this and get away with it. I want others to know the way in which I was treated and I am not the only one. I saw the ad on TV for 10$ down $10 a month No Commitment. I walked in for the very 1st time 1 hour before the advertisement was to expire. I was told that the systems do not work for 2 hours a night and I would have to wait until after midnight to do it...? I said I can’t because after midnight the deal would expire. I was then told that I could go home and apply online, which I did. NO PLACE did it say that if I wanted to cancel my membership, it had to be at least 7 days before the annual $39 fee were to come out. I felt VERY uncomfortable. My VERY 1st time going in with NO advertised "tour" or ANYTHING, and knew that I wasn’t going to return. I went the day before the annual fee was to come out & canceled in person... however the fee came out the next day anyway and after calling and telling them what happened, I was told “Sorry there is nothing we can do.” AVOID THE SCAM PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!

"The No Judgement Zone". Shall I start by saying not only was I singled out, they went an extra mile as to monitoring my every moves violating my rights as a customer. They also violated my privacy. As for the "no judgement" my experience at 4166 Buford Hwy NE #1101B, Atlanta, GA 30345 Planet Fitness was far from that. Not only did they found it entertaining my complaint about yet another mockery, their group of employees gathered to simply gang up on me trying to discredit me, arguing like a bunch of clowns, being unprofessional and trying to protect themselves accusing me of being "disrespectful" only at the end some "manager" decides to address me away from the counter where everyone had just observed this unprofessionalism.
Did I forget to mention part of it was because they screwed up my account and could never log into my profile to make payments or update information since they entered wrong. Once I was able to log in, there was no agreement. Keep in mind I've signed up in NY and this club supposedly couldn't access my agreement or see what was going on with it other than to stop and harassing at the counter each time I came in. Not only was they rude, the audacity of this female workers of laughing and giggles when there I was trying to fix the mess they company always creates. In 2016 I went through the exact same experience which leads me to believe they had already come up with this profile for me flagging my account so each state each city I attempted to use my black card there was always an issue with me getting in the club.
Last but not least when they got caught up in the mess they decided to ban me from 14 clubs saying because the experience at Plaza Fiesta. Oh the real reason was because while I'm the woman bathroom I informed one of the employees who was pretending to be mopping floors that showers were stopped up. I had just used the handicap since that was the only working one and of course water gets on the floor that this employee seemed to have completely missed and was now mopping around near the lockers. So she didn't like it that I told her and instead of putting a work order, the following day during our encounter at the counter I was informed I was also disrespectful by notifying her per the employee so you know once I got that call from the regional manager I thought it was solved. Actually she felt the need to just ban me from coming to any of their clubs as if they just couldn't correct their issues. So now I am one.

I signed up for the 1-year membership with the Black Card back 5/2016 and this year I assumed that in May my membership had expired. But, today I found out through a bank account that since May I was still being charged the membership fee. No one ever told me at Planet Fitness when I became a Member you have to cancel your membership in writing after the 1 year. But all I get out of several representatives with Planet Fitness, "It is in your contract". Well, the day I signed up the salesperson did it on a tablet sitting in Planet Fitness. I never received a paper contract and besides that it's up under where I signed by name. I have argued with Planet Fitness about this with no hope on getting them to change their policy at ALL. At least Planet Fitness should contact your members and let them know their 1-year agreement is about the expire so at least I would have known to cancel it. Let's not forget in writing.
Thanks to this bank account I would have never known. My question is how long you Planet Fitness kept taking it out of the account. Yet another large company making millions off of the ones that think Planet Fitness is a great company they would not take advantage of their members. After reading the other reviews I have learned I am not the only one. Never again Planet Fitness. Very disappointed and will never recommend Planet Fitness.

We had to wait more than five minutes while she attended everybody behind me and even let others in who have not "registered" either as guests. I went to the manager who was right there with three other employees doing nothing to help this new employee, and her response was, "our internet was slow" and did nothing more than look up from her computer when I was speaking to her. I guess it is true that when people want to do a Negative review quicker than a positive review. If I can do no stars I would. Planet Fitness I joined the gym because the advertised a dollar down and then the $20 a month which sounded good but first of all it was out of my way the all the benefits the 24-hour opening all that sounded good so I join. So when it came time to go I only went one time I went to go to the gym to try it out for the first time with a friend, they wouldn't do anything. The people that were at the gym exercising taught me everything about the machines. Those young kids and at the front desk didn't even acknowledge me as a person really. They stayed there at the desk laughing and smiling and talking. Very unapproachable. For a company that advertise no judgment you kinda contradict yourself with horrible employees.
So I cancelled a week after I joined I went with crunch right in my neighborhood... Love it btw. So I went to another location at Planet Fitness bigger more control but still horrible service by the employees. I recorded the conversation. Dasheen was going to charge me 50 dollars cancellation fee... For one day? I said! I didn't pay it. He had me sign and put his initials on a document! How unprofessional! I recently became member of Planet Fitness. The beautiful girl at the counter explained to me that the lower priced package comes with a contract and that one of the benefits of choosing the more expensive package is that you don't have a contract and can cancel anytime. Now that I am considering moving to a gym that is more focused on weight training and body building I found out that I am in a twelve month contract with a 50+ dollar cancellation fee. I am very frustrated about it and it doesn't seem like there is anything I can do and again the girl is really cute and nice so I don't want to cause any issues by bringing it up with the manager at her location.
The other issues I have are that although I am a beginner I would like to really exert myself for Max benefit but always feel too uncomfortable to do it. I feel uncomfortable because intense workouts sometimes can leave other beginners feeling inadequate or intimated. I feel like I would be a better fit for a more body building focused gym but can't afford two membership at once.
The hydromassage machine and massage chairs only give you five minutes per day which to me is simply not enough time to benefit from the massage. And lastly the billing is setup in a way that I feel is intended to collect late fees. Instead of having a specific date that the bill comes out they give you a 7 day window. They say the bill can be withdrawn from my account anywhere between the 11th of the month and the 17th which means I have to have money in it for the entire week.
I run out of money every single week because I have a crap job so this will almost always result in a late fee. The sporadic timing of the bill coupled with the fact that things like paying for gas at the pump leave pending transactions in my account is sure to result in late fees as well as overdraft fees for me in the future and it's really stressful just knowing I have to be on the lookout for this for the next 12 months. I feel like in 2017 there is no good reason they cannot just pick a billing day and stick to it unless they are intentionally doing so to generate 15.00 late fees. Direct withdrawal is the only payment option.

I am distressed with the recent change in my neighborhood Planet Fitness since our former manager, Gabby, has been gone. I am an older female and have enjoyed the approximately three years I have been going and have always felt very comfortable and welcome until Gabby left. All the young people who work front desk regularly have always made it a point to say hello (and even call you by name if you attend often enough) when you enter, wish you a good workout and then make it a point to wish you a good day when you leave. Unfortunately this simple interaction seems to be "unimportant" to those who were not regulars under Gabby.
I think it is important for the local owner to know how this particular location has lost much of its appeal. I have only seen the new manager a couple of times but he could very possibly be busy with trying to establish his style and rhythm but he has made no effort whatsoever to introduce himself to me or any of my friends who are members, nor has he made any attempt (that I have seen) to offer his assistance to the front desk employees if several members/ potential members arrive at the same time and there becomes a backup. All I can hope is that the new manager finds his footing before he disappoints too many of the members/employees. Until this unfortunate change I would have rated my experience 5 stars.

I signed up and thought nothing bad at first. Sure the gym had a habit of not being the most clean gym around but they were very busy so I never thought much about it. I just made sure I wiped down all equipment before and after uses. The real problem is that employees they hire don't care about the customers. I went into the Planet Fitness in Clifton, NJ about 4 months ago and told them I would be leaving the country for work and would like to cancel my membership and would most likely join again when I was back in the country, due to the fact they were conveniently located near my home.
The young man (barely out of high school) explains to me that he has no authority to personally cancel my account and he would need some information to give to a manager for them to be able to cancel. Without hesitation I gave the information he asked for and thought nothing of it. He said I would receive a letter in the mail confirming I canceled. About three months later I returned and have a statement from my bank of overdraft fees. The bank account was an old one that I removed all my monthly charges from and would have been fine if Planet Fitness had canceled my account like they said they would.
Come to find out, the manager from the location said that was absolutely wrong and any employee can cancel a membership. The night I went in it was close to the end of their business hours, so I guess I have to pay for the young kid's neglection of doing his job but instead his mind was focused on turning out the lights. If the young man had told me for any reason he could not cancel and I would have to come back and spoke to someone who could. However, the young man reassured me this happened all the time and there was no issues.
After speaking with Felix the regional manager he explained to me that I would only be able to get the half of the balance I supposedly owed Planet Fitness credited and nothing more with a strict understanding that this would be done if I stayed a member. I told him I wanted to speak to his manager. Felix insisted he was the big shot and there was no one above him. After writing a review on the gym's survey I wrote I wanted to speak to the CEO. Some guy calls me and says he's the big shot and that he stands with Felix on this matter. So, to clarify they want me to pay for their employee's mistake and on top of that they want me to take the hit on the multiple overdraft and late fees that occurred for no other reason but their neglect to want to keep a customer.
I explained if they made things right and I would stay a customer just because of their location but the big shot said he's done that plenty of times and the people cancel anyway. If you speak to any customer and say (you're just like the rest of them) you won't be in business much longer I can assure you that. This situation has been a headache with all the phone calls and time I spent trying to have them right their wrongs and it went on deaf ears. They don't value their customers.
This weekend I will be trying to set up a small rally and call in local news stations just to make a point that it's not the money but how your employees represent your company. If you can't take responsibility for their actions and right their wrongs then you have no right to be in business. I have spoken to many friends and family and will be covering their first 2 months if they wanted to cancel as well. I am going to a much better retro fitness where I will be taken care of like a valued customer. From now on I will strongly urge people against signing up to this horrible service provided by Planet Fitness. The money wasn't the issue the principals are. The only reason to sign up is if you want horrible customer service and pizza on Fridays.

I let my 19-year old sign up for a $10 no commitment membership in Las Cruces, NM. After not using for a couple of months I told her to cancel the membership so they would stop debiting my account for $11.85 a month. When I called them they told me that either she or I would have to go in to the gym in person to cancel the membership. When she went in they told her she had to do a letter. Unfortunately as a busy college student she never got around to it.
Well a year later, supposedly on the year anniversary I had a debit of $42 from my account. When I called to find out about it they said that it was an annual renewal fee. I told them that I had not authorized a withdrawal from my account. Of course they bring up their contract. I told them I personally have never seen the contract so I was not aware that there was an annual fee, and did not want to renew the membership or pay for another year. They said in order to cancel the membership I had to go into the gym in person. I had to go out of my way and drive to that town and gym to cancel. Then the staff tells me that they cannot refund the annual fee, because the contract says it's non-refundable. I told them I hadn't seen the contract and needed a copy. They grudgingly provided me a copy of the contract, and the cancellation.
I told them I wanted to talk to the manager. They told me he wasn't located in that town, but they would have him call me. He called me the next day and gave me the same line about the contract and annual renewal. I told him I hadn't seen the contract until the day I went in, and I hadn't been notified prior that they would withdraw an annual fee. Like an airhead he kept stating that it's in the contract. I kept telling the moron that I never saw the contract. He said my daughter should have told me. Yeah right, like a teenager is going to repeat the stipulations of a contract to me. He told me he was independently owned and was not in the habit of giving refunds regardless of the situation.
I called corporate the next day and spoke to customer service, which is not anymore helpful. They basically said the same thing. I mentioned that they should at least send out a warning prior to withdrawing any money from people's account. From my understanding it is illegal to withdraw funds from people's accounts without prior consent. She said that that was an ongoing suggestion from dissatisfied customers, and that Planet Fitness Corporate Office hadn't implemented it yet. Well of course they wouldn't. Imagine the money it would cost them if they suddenly couldn't blindside people. She suggested I call the regional manager again. I told her he was an idiot and I wasn't going to waste my time. Why wasn't I asked in the beginning, when I made my account that I had to take a picture? He promised that he was going to cancel my account. I'm the only one who has access to cancel my account, so why was I being harassed by this manager in Port View?

I have had nothing but problems with Planet Fitness! They are not FOR the customer at all. They are very inconvenient with their systems for transferring and electronic withdrawals. Their computer system and the way they take out your payments each month is a complete mess along with their whole system for transferring locations. I moved to Detroit area for a month and a half (part of my schooling for an internship) and wanted to work out in that area and when I moved back home I had to wait 90 days to go to the new location. Their reasoning is because the Planet Fitness' are owned by different owners. So I was paying them each month not being able to work out for what I was paying them.
They also take days to "process" when you want to transfer locations. The employees all tell you different things regarding whether you are allowed to work out before the "transfer" is complete or not. Another time I came in to work out and brought my boyfriend along (I have the membership where if I bring a guest they have to pay $20). The worker that checked us in was extremely unprofessional and rude and said I had an "overdue balance" in which I tried to understand why and he just would not explain it and kept saying over and over "You can't work out." Little did he know he just missed out on $20 from my boyfriend but also respect and business - very bad impression.
Another time when withdrawing my monthly payment, I didn't have money in the account (my fault) but they kept trying to charge my card AGAIN a couple days later! They do not have permission to do this. So when I did go into the location to pay, the girls told me I didn't have an overdue balance! Then when I tried to work out at a different location, they told me I DID have an overdue balance. LOTS OF HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION SKILLS HERE!

The extra money they've stolen from me hasn't been refunded! I called my home Planet Fitness first, and the owner informed did nothing to help me whatsoever, so I called corporate. The man I spoke with at corporate informed me that they could do nothing to help me or even see my account because my local Planet Fitness is privately owned. It's become obvious to me that this company is unprofessional and cares very little about its customers. If they continue to steal from my bank account, my plan is to take them to court. I don't recommend Planet Fitness to anyone. Save your money and go to a gym that isn't run by shady, money grabbing thieves.

I went into Planet Fitness Fayetteville NC and canceled my membership in March 2017. I subsequently was charged my membership and annual fees. I went back into Planet Fitness and spoke with the manager. I asked her why my account was still being debited and requested a refund from my cancellation date and was told there was nothing she could do. At that point I ask for her supervisor and was told that was not going to happen and she refuse to take my number or pass on my request to her supervisor. I requested again for my membership to be canceled and for them to stop debiting my account. I feel that Planet Fitness should honor their cancellation policy and not be able to debit members accounts or renew members accounts fees after cancellation.

They are crooks. Calling the account department to get a refund is useless. They have been trained to quote contract paragraphs to you on a contract that you don't have in front of you and signed a year or 2 before. Even if you cancel your membership they still take out a annual fee and refuse to return the monies to you. I was told it's not really an annual fee, which made absolutely no sense since they take it out once a year. I will never recommend anyone giving them access to your bank account. They take what they want. I'm going to have to change my bank account now so these crooks can't take any more from it.

I joined Planet Fitness online on May 3, 2017 - 495 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn, NY, and never went there to work out. I stopped by on May 11, and picked up a key tag to enter the gym. While there I decided to check the place out and noticed that there was man in the women's shower. There are signs posted all over that even though you have a locker, with a lock on it for the time period you are there, your personal items are not safe.
After leaving, I decided that this was not the place for me. I called some friends, and got horrors stories of them having their lockers broken into. So on May 14, 2017, I went there to cancel the membership. I figured since it was only a week I had joined it would be no problem in canceling. Was I wrong or what!. I was told I had to pay $58 + tax in order to do. Of course I was steaming mad because it was a little over a week since I had joined and never used any of their gyms.
Reluctantly, I paid it and now I am being harassed by them because they are telling me that I owe them for one month. Are they crazy or what??? I think it is time I contact the Attorney General of NY to look into Planet Fitness contracts. Because there is no way in hell I just gave them $60 for nothing & they are still looking for more monies.

I was treated very poorly there. The people there are just too crotchety & tried being very nice there. Then all the workers & people working there are just walking around all depressed & not wanting to talk to you but if they do say anything to you it's to get crotchety with you but that's OK. That's not going to stop me from being nice. I was a black card member but when I went to ask to turn on the hydro bed then in a very crotchety tone of voice, "Are you sure your black card members?" Well yes. You know you been checking me in for the 3 months because I have limited mobility from cancer in my neck back in 2003 & use a walker & that I would benefit from it. Then the next day I was kicked out because of my needs. Then my parents that was with me at the time were all going.
Are you off familiar with the Disability Act? Because then they said, "I don't care" and that I'm not allowed to be in the gym because of my needs and they just discriminated me. Then we said, "Let me talk to your manager," then in a very crotchety voice that lady at the front desk sang "I am the manager." Then we said, "Let me get the supervisor's number," then she said in a very crotchety voice, "Why would I want to give you the supervisors number. Go look that up online." Then we went and called the supervisor and was only sticking up for the lady that kick me out. Well that was only very temporary gym because my dad that was just recovering from cancer treatment needed a gym that he could work out in before he whips back into shape well enough to return to our YMCA gym. Because I was not allowed in after I've been going there for 4 months until all that have happened.
My parents canceled their memberships at Planet Fitness then we just return back to our YMCA. At Planet Fitness after my parents canceled they were still taking money out of their accounts when they're no longer members there. So they can be very shady and I've read on reviews how Shady they are which are very shady. Then bathrooms are not the cleanest bathrooms. Good thing that was only temporary because you wonder why so cheap there. You get what you paid for. You're paying only $10 a month. We're $20 a month of a black card membership. You're going to get all crotchety workers therein. The people there are not all that friendly and the gym all dingy and depressing. Looking the way how Planet Fitness treats people I can see why the Planet Fitness that you were going to for only 4 months that we were members there.
Was never crowded and all empty because nasty. Some the workers could be there like the one that kicked me out. So nasty and some of the people there can be so nasty that if they ever talk to my dogs like that I would report them to PETA people. But that's okay. Karma baby. At least I return back to my YMCA where I'm friends with everybody. With everyone that workers and a whole lot of the people there I'm good friends with. And a gym that does gets crowded and with it being a huge YMCA and the biggest YMCAs in my area and with the Wellness Center. That's a gym bigger than Planet Fitness gym and way more equipment than Planet Fitness and heavier dumbbells for my dad and my brother because they're big-time weightlifters. And with my dad being back in the shape and with much friendlier people and where all my friends are at. And it gym that you can make friends with people. At least we're happy now.

I confirm my routing and account info with the bank, give it back to PF, and they tell me, "Everything is now fine, sorry for the mix-up."
Here we are in May 2017. I go into the gym and they tell me I owe them $137. I call the 1800 number and they tell me my account is up to date. I go back to the gym and this time the manager tells me that I haven't made one single payment since I started and if I wanted to continue to work out there, I would have to pay the amount dating back to September 2016. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE BANK STATEMENTS PROVING I HAVE PAID. My gym was bought out by Planet Fitness. My personal trainer for the gym it has previously been told me that they would no longer honor my personal training package since the announcement of the buyout and that I would have to contact the gym prior to the completion of the sale to get my money back for my unused sessions. After two weeks, I was able to speak with someone to try and get my money back (over $400) and at that time I canceled my membership. I never got the check I was promised and now Planet Fitness is charging me a monthly membership.
I called 425-315-7070 and spoke with Sally and tried to explain the situation. She told me that it doesn't matter what happened before the buyout, that in my contract of my old gym it says that in the event the gym is sold, my membership will also be sold and continue with the new gym. I told her that I had canceled and she said that I have to cancel in person at the new gym for that to work. At this point I just wanted this to be over and rather than have email communication of my cancellation (with confirmation from Jeff at my old gym) I wanted to send a certified letter to Planet Fitness and just pay for the extra months and have it be done.
I asked where I could send a certified letter to cancel and she told me that I can only cancel in person. Now, this is a problem for me because since this happened I have moved two states away. I told her there was no way that I could make it into the gym to cancel in person. She repeated and emphasized that was the ONLY way that I could cancel and that the gym would reopen sometime in the next few weeks after the renovations and I could go in. So then I am finding out I am being charged for a gym that isn't usable even if I was there and there is no way to cancel a membership to a gym I never signed up for, that's claiming a membership from a previous gym that I had canceled.
So, while I am on the phone with her I am looking up Planet Fitness and it says that I can cancel online, unfortunately I need a membership number to sign up online, something I do not have. I asked for it and she told me I have to come to the gym when it reopens and sign a NEW contract to get a Planet Fitness membership number. I told her that I shouldn't be getting charged for a gym I can't use and one I do not even have a membership for. She started to swear at me and called me a ** and hung up. I called immediately back and she picked up and hung up the phone. I tried again. Same thing. I waited and cooled off. Tried calling about an hour later, it went to voicemail. I tried again immediately after hitting voicemail and the phone was picked up and hung up. So, I called from another phone number, and surprise, she answers! I told her who I was and she immediately hung up on me. She was screening both phone numbers.
I called my bank and had them reverse the charge and any future charges from Planet Fitness as I had never signed up with them and do not have a membership. The following week I get the expected email from Planet Fitness that my payment was declined, but there is a new number for me to call. I called the number and it goes to ABC Financial, who cannot help me cancel, who doesn't have any information for me to cancel, and said that all they do is collect money for Planet Fitness memberships. She said that I have to take it up directly with Planet Fitness in Everett. I told her about my previous call and my attempts at cancellation and she told me that they can't do anything about it, it's up to Planet Fitness to let them know to stop charging me.
I asked if there was another number or contact and she gave me the same number I had called before. I asked if there was a direct manager or corporate number and she said that the 425-315-7070 was the only number they have listed for them. So I tried calling the number again, the same woman answered and told me that I would have to cancel in person, once I explained I couldn't because I was out of state. She told me I'd have to keep paying until I can come to the gym, I said I would just put a stop payment on the card and she told me that was fine, they would just send me to collections and she hung up. I can't believe that they only have one person there answering this phone.
I got another email from ABC financial, and I called 425-315-7070 again on 4/19. The call was routed to the Seattle Planet Fitness because the Everett locations phones are down. The woman said that she was sorry but I would have to try back later because I can only cancel from the gym I signed up with (even though I had never signed up). Planet Fitness makes it absolutely impossible to cancel their membership. I have recorded the subsequent calls since the first one where the woman started swearing at me (even getting hung up on and changing numbers only to get hung up on again) so I can fight this when it inevitably ends up on my credit report.

If you cancel your membership you are required to pay a $60 fee! How does this make sense?! If you do the least expensive membership at $10 per month you can cancel at any time. If you pay them more money per month and go with their higher membership, you get penalized!!! Don't give them more of your money only to be punished. I was shocked that is how they treat a black card member!!! Stick with the $10 membership - the black card perks are not worth the additional $10 per month anyway. The water jet bed is uncomfortable! First off are the dozens of people who sit on equipment using their cell phones and not even working out while others wait for them to get off. Then you have the low lives who use every piece of equipment never once taking time to wipe off their sweat.
Lastly, are those who use the gym like a casino while staff members sit behind the desk and watch. These people are those who place their personal belongings on one or more pieces of equipment while they use another so they don't lose it. These are the biggest losers and most disrespectful in my book. Getting to a piece of equipment you really need to use is impossible unless you are there at the crack of dawn or during hours most of us work. It's become so frustrating I just chose to leave for a better place. You can't just open a gym to collect money from thousands of people without a cut off point and really need to screen who is allowed to remain a member. Staff should walk the gym, look for these cell phone geeks etc. and end their membership immediately if they can't change their routine.

I told him I attempted for 5 minutes to allow him to do so but he ignore me and even turn his back on me. I told him I'm a paying customer and he said the other call was more important than me. I ask him if he know how to multi-task. He said the customer on the phone needed him more. I then went on to say "you could have told me please hold I will be with you shortly." I myself work in customer service and would never treat a customer in this manner. I ask to make a complaint and he never give me the right number. I also mention me will close my account without even my consent. This is the worst experience of my life. I'm not very happy with Planet Fitness service and would not recommend it to anyone.

Setting the stage: I was told member cancellation is free and can be done anytime preferably on or before the 10th of the month since monthly auto payment begins processing. I get that. So my membership runs from the 17th to the 17th of each month and I've paid for Mar- April and choose to cancel beginning with April- May since "cancellation at anytime is free".
My Scenario: On 3/20/17 I visited PF requesting cancellation asking first if I cancel today when is my last date to visit since I am paid through 4/17. The answer: "Today would be your last day." Adding it is best to cancel on the 10th. So I asked if I cancelled on the 10th would I then be able to visit until the 17th in which the answer was 'no'. Visitation stops the date of cancellation not at the end of your paid membership.
Here's my problem: PF touts cancellation is free but it is not. In my situation cancellation would cost me either 1 month's fee or 1 week's fee plus an extra trip to cancel. MOREOVER, the cancellation form states at the top, "Any membership can be cancelled within 30 days written notice, preferably by certified mail." The fact that I was standing in front of them, in front of the now signed cancellation form, did not qualify for the 30 days notice even if it were a true 30 days notice cancellation. So is the 30 days from date of processing payment (the 10th) or date of membership (17th)? I don't know. Regardless, my understanding from the 3 individuals spoken to is that your last day to visit is the day you sign the cancellation form. So why have a 30 day written notice policy?
Terribly unbelievable: This was so terribly unbelievable that I signed and got outta there before I lost my mind. Before leaving, I asked for a corporate number to call. There is none. I was directed to the PF website and yes, I checked it out. It directs you to the very facility you're having problems with. Cannot reach corporate levels as these are franchises. Again...unbelievable. What's free about cancellation? NOTHING when you're paying for your month and not getting to use it up!!

Planet Fitness states they have a non-obligation sign up in which one pays monthly 9.99. However if one decides not to use the gym any longer they make you put in writing and then swear they didn't receive such notice and continue to charge your bank each and every month racking up hundreds of dollars. Reggie the worker there is dishonest and appear to do his job but doesn't. No one want to help. However they will rob your bank blind with fraudulent and hidden charges. If I can help anyone please do not go to Planet Fitness. It's not what they say and you will be obligated unless you close your bank account and file bankruptcy or speak with an attorney but who has that type of time especially working class.

I have been a member of Planet Fitness for about 10 years. Derry, NH is one of the dirtiest gyms that I have ever seen. Men's locker room, it always smells like a pair of dirty socks every time I go in. Sometimes I can smell it on me when I get back to my place. Looks like the lockers are rarely cleaned. Sinks are always dirty. I am not the only one that complains about this. The gym is open all night. You would think that it could be cleaned every night. I know a lot of people go though there, but it could be a lot cleaner. All the other gyms are rarely as dirty as this one.

When I and the lady I care for joined the Planet Fitness in Harrisonburg, VA I explicitly asked if the memberships would transfer and was told yes and that it only took two days for the transfer to take place. I told the lady that we would be moving in 30-90 days. We set up appointments with the personal trainer and he was not prepared to do a workout plan for my client because she is in a wheelchair. I persuaded Ghoussan not to write her off and he had us come by the next day but did not use any of the gym's equipment.
Also twice during the enrollment I asked for a print out of the agreement because I wanted to read what I was signing. My requests were met with excuses and a promise of a printed contract when I returned. I was told that if I cancelled by the 10th of March we would not be billed a second month. When I came in on February 23rd to transfer memberships I was taken to the kiosk and the employee made several attempts to transfer the memberships before reading the fine print and seeing that we had to be members for 90 days to transfer.
March 9th I called the Winchester branch to see if they would make an exception and transfer the memberships. I was given the number to the corporate office and followed the prompts to get a customer service agent. I was told that she could not assist because the locations are franchised. I then requested that she cancel the memberships and was told that had to be done with the specific location that we joined. I called the Harrisonburg, VA location and was told that we had to send a letter in to cancel. I asked for a name of a manager and was told. "There is no name."

Planet Fitness is misrepresenting their payment policies. I tried to cancel my trial Membership on 2-5-2015 was told it was taken care. On 2-25-2017 looked at my credit card statement and I was charged by Planet fitness. A payment I did not authorize them to debit. Called to try and talk to a so called Manager and was told that they were not going to do anything about it. That I would have to come to the fitness center and sign a cancellation contract. I get to the location and get told that I would be charged for cancelling. Now Keep in mind this is a so called trial membership! Told them that I would not pay anything.
They showed me a two page document that had never seen before and stated, "Well you signed this so we have the right to keep charging you." I responded that I had never saw that document much less signed it and that I had signed up online and that document was nowhere on the site. They told me that they have nothing to do with the online part of it. So I told them that they are running a scam, tricking people into signing up without letting them know they are entering into a contract. He told me that he would not respond to that. I asked several different customers at that location if they recognized or had signed the document that he handed me. THEY ALL SAID NO, THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS AND HAD NOT SIGNED IT. This business is crooked and is stealing from people. DO NOT USE THEM!

Have to agree. When my family signed up they explained the conditions, (it helps that my wife always asks a thousand questions) to include the "annual fee" which was charged a month or so after we joined and will be charged every year hereafter. We spent well over an hour and a half going through the process, including a tour where we asked a lot of questions. My son never used the club so we cancelled his membership without any problems. Again we were told when we signed up about the charges for early termination and chose to pay the fee rather than all the monthly charges for him.
The PF I use if new and the equipment and facilities are great (not real excited about everything purple and yellow but not a problem. The staff is pleasant and attentive, although I go at 5:30 in the morning and there aren't many people there then. I have never hear the "Lunk alarm" and have never seen anyone harass anyone else (patron or staff), maybe this place is the exception or maybe it is because of the time. That being said, I have used gyms all my life so I don't need and frankly don't want any help. The gym has limitations, no free weights, dumbbells max at 85, would like to have a scale, etc, but I am fairly old and not really training for any sports anymore and not really a serious lifter either so PF meets my needs. Again if you are a serious athlete in training or a serious weightlifter PF is not the gym for you. If I were 15 or 20 years younger I wouldn't be here either.
I have seen these types of complaints about cancellations in reviews of a lot of different companies and would offer a few words of advice: Read the contract and do what they require. Sometimes it is a pain in the behind but can save you a lot of money and aggravation. Also, DON'T join a gym if you aren't going to use it. Many gyms will sell a weekly pass or a daily charge. Do this for a month or so to see if you really are going to stay with it. I realize that this does not apply to those who had injuries, moved, had life changing events, but if you are thinking of joining to try it out, don't. Try it out first and be sure you are going to use it before you commit to all the hassle. $10 a month (with an annual fee) is a great deal for a gym - if it is the right kind of gym and if you use it.

So I've had gym memberships before and Planet Fitness is great. You can't beat the price, every other gym I've attended was $35+ and came with a yearly contract. There are plenty of cardio machines and strength training machines, but not as many free weights as I would expect with such a large gym. I have a Black Card membership and the extra perks are definitely worth just $9.99 more a month. I don't know what all these bad reviews are going on about, everything is clearly stated in the paperwork when you sign up so you just have to read. It definitely seems like this is most of the negative comments are coming from gym newbies. The no grunting or dropping weights policy is kind of silly though. If you're trying to really work out and put on mass it's hard not to do those sometimes. The alarm is WAY more distracting and annoying than anything else lol.

Don't trust them! A month after signing up for what appeared like a good deal $10 per month. You can't go wrong, right? Well you can. They charge you another $40 dollars in February. This wasn't explained during the sign up and is non-refundable. So even quitting immediately does not get your money back.

Ok - so I've read through several of the complaints on this forum, and I can say that the MAJORITY are from people simply not reading what they are signing up for. The website very clearly states that guests cannot use the black card spa amenities. It also clearly states that you will be billed for the annual fee and when. They don't charge you after a year... They charge you about a month after you sign up. Your $10/month membership fee comes out of your account, regardless if you go to the gym that month or not. It's a recurring payment.
Dealing with cranky employees and problems with billing terminations are legitimate complaints, but some of the reviewers have obviously never been to a gym prior to PF. You run into the same typical gym issues everywhere. Yea, some people don't follow "gym etiquette" and don't wipe down the machines, but that is not specific to PF.
I go to the PF in Glen Burnie, MD. I like that gym because it's not as packed as some gyms in the area. I've been a member at 2 other major gyms (and paid about $40/month!), but this membership works PERFECTLY for me. I don't need the "extras" that come with the bigger gyms. I just need to go to the gym, do cardio, do weights, and go home. That's it. And that's what I get at PF, so it works for me. And I'm saving $30/month doing it at PF. I have not run into any problems with the staff. Everyone seems pleasant enough.
I like the atmosphere at PF. It's nice to see people there just with the goal of being healthy. I will say that the Lunk Alarm is pretty darn annoying. It's LOUD and very distracting. I personally don't care if someone is grunting or accidentally drops a weight. Come on. If you're THAT offended by gym behavior, you should probably toughen up. PF is so against bullying, that their anti-bullying comes off as bullying against people who might already be in good shape. I will also mention that the stupid Lunk Alarm only goes off maybe once during my workout, so it's not a huge deal, and is certainly not enough to drive me away. It's just an annoyance. Overall I am happy with this gym. It's what I need.

I told the staff member that I will be paying for the membership and signed authorization to have my bank account debited for my son's membership. Instead of applying my son's membership to my bank account, the staff applied my son's membership to my son's bank account. Which they had on file from a previous closed membership. This caused a debit with overdraft fees.
I contacted the club. And the manager Travis suggested that my signature authorized them to debit my adult son's account -- because I am his mother. Travis told me he would refund the fees if I would bring in proof of said fees. Needless to say, he conveniently disappeared when I returned with the proof. He apparently left the village idiot (I don't hear nothing, I don't see nothing, I don't know nothing) in charge of the shop. I contacted the regional manager Luke ** via email. We joined Planet Fitness Hixson, TN in September of 2016. I have enjoyed my experience every time I go. The folks at the front desk always greet me with a smile when I check in; they always tell me to have a good night when I leave. There are always plenty of weight and cardio machines, even at peak times. I recently noticed that the weight machines had been re-upholstered. The one time there was an issue with another patron using the machines in the circuit areas for too long (and so incorrectly it looked like he was hurting himself), and not wiping them down, I mentioned him to the front desk on my way out and they were very nice in assuring me they'd take care of it. I haven't seen him there again (but maybe that's because our workout times don't coincide). I find the bathrooms always clean, and the one time I used the showers, it was pleasant.
Just two days ago I took a fitness class there. It was a half-hour class for FREE. The class had 5 spots available, but since I was the only one signed up, it was like having a personal trainer. The class consisted of the trainer leading me through rounds of exercises focused on a power tower. It was very vigorous - so much, in fact, that I might have pushed myself too hard and wasn't able to complete the 30 minutes. But I enjoyed what I was able to do so much that I am going back again tonight. My membership is the $10/mo. option. I highly recommend it.

Since I have signed up, my father has been deathly sick and he is on hospice and I have had to move suddenly to Smyrna, DE to take care of him.
I was not able to contact a manager, and no one has returned any of my calls. I was forced to leave my father's side and drive 45 mins to Wilmington to cancel a gym membership to avoid any further charges to my account which I did yesterday. I was told by the gentleman who processed my cancellation that I would not have any further charges to my account because I canceled before the first of February.
Today, however, I was charged $40.00 and my account was overdrafted an additional $35.00. I called to speak with a manager yet again, and this time I was informed there is not a manager currently because they were fired. I asked if there is someone who is in charge, and Shakina informed me there is not someone I can speak to who is in charge. I explained my situation hoping to have assistance from her, since the branch made the mistake whether it was in the information they provided me with or not taking my bank card off of auto charge. Either way it was a mistake on their end. She said she could not assist me with it. I asked who I would need to speak with and she stated corporate and that I needed to look up the phone number because she couldn't get it for me.
After looking through the Planet Fitness website and google searching for 15 minutes, I was able to find the corporate number that I needed to call. I prompted #2 for a billing issue and was connected to Adam (who states he could not give me his last name). He informed me that there is nothing they could do for a complaint about a billing issue and told me to call the branch back. I informed him there is no manager, and he said that there is nothing he could help me with. I then asked to speak with his manager or a regional manager that I could get the assistance I needed, and he would not put me through to a manager!!!

My cousin was also thinking about switching gyms, but I think I will have to let everyone know about this terrible experience. I myself have continued to pay for this membership for months without much use at all, and even planned to come back after my personal issues are over with, but I have changed my mind. I first opened my account in Rapid City, SD and was required to move per my job. Rapid City refused to refund my membership without me paying over $50. At the time there was no Planet Fitness in Helena, MT. I moved and found out they were going to open one in Helena. I went to the trailer to discuss changing my location and they had no idea what to do but indicated they would talk to the manager who was showing on in two days and would call me back. Over a week and half passed so I called them. The lady on the phone was rude. She again did not know what to do but said "wait" while she asked someone else.
When she got back on the phone her response was "you will just have to wait till it's opened." The new location did not open as planned so I paid for a month and half of membership that I could not use. I was able to finally transfer my membership online but it said I had to wait 3-5 days before I could use the gym. I was not happy. I called the location and spoke to a gentleman who said "just come in and we will fix it" because "that's crazy." When I went in I spoke with another gentleman who had no idea what to do but said his manager would but he didn't know where she was. At the time there were 5 people behind the counter so he started talking to them.
When the manager came up, Esther **, she was rude to me from the start as I explained the conversation I had with her location. All she wanted to know was who told me to come in. The person didn't say his name. I started to get irritated and I told her about the fact that I had to pay for a membership that I couldn't use because they were not open. She said "well you can't help construction and it's not my membership." The point was I paid for services I couldn't use because they were not open. I again had to tell her that I was there to work out because that's what I was told and she didn't even know what to do with my membership.
She called someone else and they said it takes 24 hrs to transfer. She again told me "it's not my fault and that's the way it is." She did say that she would call me the next day to correct the membership, took my number after she didn't understand that the number on the screen attached to the location is not my phone number. She did say that she would leave a note for the morning staff because I was going to be there at 5:45AM the next day. There was no note left and she has yet to call me ever after I called her twice and left messages with the staff. This started on 4 Jan 17.
Today when I went in it still was not taken care of. There was a short, ** lady with glasses talking personally behind the counter on her phone who stuck her finger in my face telling me to wait. She refused to tell me her name. Darren came over to help but indicated "I'm just the night janitor." He did find someone to correct the issue but when he came to give me my card he said I had to have a picture. I asked why and he shrugged his shoulders. I am already upset because of the service I continue to receive so I told him it wasn't like that at the last location. He responded rudely and loudly "we are not them," so I got pissed and told him not to talk to me that way and he walked away cussing at me. He never came back with my card so I went to get it and three people, a new one, the ** lady, and Darren all raised their voices to me that I had to take the pictures. I never refused the picture.
Along with all the extremely poor service Esther allows cameras in the locker. All three times I was there people are in the locker room taking pictures, two times there have been younger kids running around yelling, and women are allowed to wear skimpy tops over their bras and shorts so short their butt hangs out. Ester was there for one of the days, there was a worker in the locker room twice with the cameras, and there are workers all over the floor to see the clothes and the kids. This place is horrible.

I decided not to renew my membership and on the day it expired I called to double-check and make sure it was canceled. The clerk asked that I come in, which I did, and I verified the account was closed. She provided me with a statement showing it was canceled and that my account would not be charged. She then proceeded to talk over me in a loud voice, shout out my private account information for everyone to hear. She kicked me out of the gym, refused to let me workout to at least make up for their mistake, would not let me get one single word in, refused to give me the corporate phone # and adamantly refused to give me her full name. What a disrespectful & ugly way to treat a client who's been a member for 2 years & who makes her payments no matter what. This is not okay.
I now understand exactly why none of her employees were able to communicate to me in 2+ months that I had an old balance. Because KIMBERLY is the regional manager. That's exactly why. She has no skills AT ALL with customer relations & she should be FIRED. Planet Fitness is an ok gym but KIMBERLY is a disgrace to that establishment & because of her they now lost about 10 clients. Because now NONE of my family & friends whom I personally recommended to this gym will ever be going there again. Good job KIMBERLY. What a waste. Go get a real job you're actually good at you condescending twit. If you're thinking of joining this specific Planet Fitness, DON'T! I highly recommend going the extra mile & joining a real gym like LA Fitness. Or even better than that, cross the street & join YOU-FIT! Just left their gym & they're way better all around for the same if not cheaper price!

I went to PF with my boyfriend. I wanted to join a gym and he would be a guest occasionally. He suffers from diabetic neuropathy and wanted mostly just to use massage chairs or table. We explained this in detail. We were told the black membership would work. The ONLY thing he could not use were the tanning beds dues to ins issues. Which didn't make sense but we thought whatever. She took us on tour and and we went over it several time that he could use the chairs and table as long as I was there. This was on Dec 16th 2016.
On Jan 2 2017 we went to the club for the 1st time. Scanned in and asked to see if a chair or bed was available and were immediately stumped and told he could not use it. He needed to buy a membership as well. We said we would cancel cause the whole reason we got the black membership was so he could occasionally use the massage table. They want to charge $58 to cancel plus another month of membership at $21. We were misled and lied to. Not only that the girl at the desk was so rude about it. If they would have been nice about the situation maybe we would have considered it but No!
The manager called us back and has even worse customer service skills. Instead of trying to make things better he was rude and just instilled how horrible this club actually is! Furthermore we called corporate office and they have NO control over individual clubs. The whole system is a useless scam! My advice pay the extra $10 and go to a reputable club! You get what you pay for!

Sell the $20 a month black card option as a scam. Using the terminology "unlimited guest privileges" but then in practice they limit you in every possible way when you bring a guest. Bogus snake oil salesman tactics. To top it off, the staff are generally unknowledgeable about anything except selling memberships.

I had joined their membership years ago. One location closed forcing me to transfer to another. I then moved out of the area and transferred again the membership. Over the next year 1/2 I never used the membership again but was still getting billed monthly. I decided to go in and cancel per their agreement. When I walked into the local location that I had transferred it to, they told me that my membership was canceled 6 months prior and showed no billing. I told them that I was still being billed monthly. They told me to contact the original location and ask. I did and they told me that my membership was transferred to another state 1200 miles away but showed it was canceled. No resolution there.
I then called my bank to stop payment from this account. I did receive a refund for the last 6 months. The following month I get another monthly charge. I called my bank back to report fraudulent activity from this company. There isn't any number or contact services for Planet Fitness. Only a email service which only responds automatically from which option you choose stating their rules and regulations. This company is set up to take money per month from its customers and make it nearly impossible to stop them.

When attempting to downgrade my wife's membership from Premium to a basic membership after being a member for at least 5 years, they had the nerve to ask for the initiation fee. They said this is only charged if you downgrade. What happened to our 5 year relationship. That does count. This is such poor customer relations. So I cancelled her membership and will consider a different gym. Customer and business loyalty is out the door of these days especially at this business. You're not the only game in town Planet Fitness. Maybe the people across the street be better at least more loyal.

My girlfriend and I signed up well over a year ago at the Flint, MI Planet Fitness. Both of us had signed up for the black card membership. I had signed us both up as in I signed all the paper work. So although her account was not in my name, I had signed for it. It was on my bank account, and my email. After using it one time shortly after we got it we tried canceling 8 months later. The person I spoke to explained that we were in a one year contract and said it was $90 to cancel (which later I saw on our terms & conditions was $58 not $90). I brushed it off and accepted the next 4 months to pay. After that time and our yearly payment I had tried canceling. Contacted the PF office and canceled. they accepted it. everything was all good right? Wrong. During my cancellation I had lost my job and didn't have any money in my account which PF deemed alright to continue to charge me.
After 8 or 10 times the company tried taking money out of an account that had $0 in it I noticed after getting a new job. I had called them and explained that I had already canceled my account to which they said I never did. Frustrated I explained that I never even really went to the gym in the first place but was fine with paying for that because that was my fault. The person I spoke to saw that we had only gone to the gym 1 time out of the whole year but couldn't cancel my account or stop the account being charged. I then asked why wouldn't anyone contact me if the account wasn't being paid for? Why try taking money out of an account 8 or 10 times with insufficient funds and not bother calling the person? Even local business' with like 5 employees and over 2,000 customers would at least contact the customer if transaction came up insufficient.
When I had asked about this the billing portion of PF the actual billing people that I talked to said, "Our billing comes from a 3rd party..." I was shocked to hear this. I spoke to the person who was head of this portion (in Michigan) and she just basically was like "Well tough luck". Finally getting my account canceled 2 months later I had found they had charged me again. When I called back they had discovered it was from my girlfriend’s account and when I canceled I had only canceled my own. I was outraged by this because I had signed everything on hers. But they had said, "We don't do joint accounts". This time being successful taking the money out I had demand to take it back but much like before they just shrugged their shoulders and said "Nothing we can do.”
What is the point of have a billing portion of a company if they don't handle anything to do with actual billing!? The person gave me the number to corporate to which I had called and they were more useless than the billing portion. The woman I had spoken to just said, "Contact billing... They are franchised and independently owned" This is honestly the worst company I have ever dealt with and it's sad because originally I thought it was great that they were a gym with an affordable membership.

The cleanliness of the gym and equipment doesn't seem to be consistent. We have complained about the greasy hand prints all over the mirrors in the stretching area. Sometimes the mirrors are clean but many times the same hand prints are visible for days. It is not a good testament for the effort put into keeping the gym clean and making it a gym that you are proud to be a member of. We used to see staff cleaning the gym frequently but over the past couple of months we haven't seen it being done very often.

I have attempted to cancel the membership since September. I was advised to write a letter which I did and when did not hear anything went into the store and was advised the membership could not be canceled due to a balance owed. When inquired a bit further about the balance was advised can not be discussed at the location and would need to call the billing dept or come back to speak with manager. I came back w/in a few days to speak with manager. (Dreamy) is the name I was given and she was not there so I called a few days later and spoke with an employee that gave me Greg from billing dept. I called Greg and left a message with voice service and have not received a callback (it's now going on two weeks).
I went back into the store and spoke with the manager on site (Steven) that explained the billing details in full and I was able to understand where the bal carried from in August 2015 so I am in agreement that I owe the 21.95 +10 late fee from over 1 yr ago but the nature of the complaint was that had the dispute been discussed in detail prior I could have paid the bal. Meanwhile my bank account is still being charged 21.00 monthly and was charged a renewal fee. I just want to cancel the membership with paying any additional cost.
Based on the negligence of the employees in not providing details of the charge that was outstanding and not getting a callback I have been charged a renewal fee and another month for service I haven't used or want. I submitted a complaint to the BBB and Planet Fitness never even responded. This a predatory company as they know most people will not close their bank account to ensure charges don't go through. So they don't respond or address the issue as they know they will continue to be paid.

I, along with a friend joined Planet Fitness in Jan of 2016. With a short time we had both incurred injuries (rotator cuff tear and back injury) that prevented us from using the facility. We realized we were not likely to be able to work out in the near. In July of 2016 I went to the club and asked them to cancel my membership. It was treated extremely by the young man at the register. He told me I had to pay them $66 for each of our accounts before I left the building or he would not cancel. I told him to cancel and send me a bill (I did not have the cash on me and certainly did not want to allow him access to more of my money) and I would pay the $132 to cancel.
Now, keep in mind that I had just been charged almost $90 for an "annual fee". We had only been members for six months... How can I have an "annual" fee. He refused to let me cancel unless I gave him $66 each on the spot. I did get the Regional Manager's name from him and called to let him know how upset I was. He NEVER responded to me. I reached out to the corporate office and did get a return call but when I called him back he NEVER responded again. I have paid them almost $500 and they continue to bill me. Everyone needs to be aware that this is a scam! DON'T JOIN THIS CLUB. There are other clubs that do business in a customer friendly manner, that have bigger and better facilities, and don't lure you in with a $10 per month advertisement and falsely lead you to believe that is the program.
Updated on 01/01/2017: I have now written into the Customer Service Department via their website at least four times. I did receive a voicemail one time but all subsequent attempts to reach anyone either by phone, email or their website has gone unanswered. I just saw an advertisement as I was looking for the web address again stating today "get all of this for $10 per month"!!! Buyer beware... it is not $10 per month! I also created an account on here because of the issues I had with Planet Fitness account cancellation. I hope this helps others. This actually happened a couple of years ago. I cancelled at my local Planet Fitness in upstate NY. The reason I cancelled was the my stepdaughter cancelled her account and they continued to bill her. After a heated argument with the desk staff (no manager available), nothing was resolved, so I cancelled my account on the spot. I found a couple of months later that they continued to bill me. I went into the local facility and again had a heated discussion. The person at the desk could see where I had requested to cancel my account two months prior and also saw that it wasn't cancelled and that I was subsequently billed. But the person could or wouldn't do anything to fix it. I was told the company policy was... that I needed to give them a copy of my back account showing the overbilling.
I basically told them to ** off. So what I did was went to the Better Business Bureau website and created a complaint. They have to respond to those complaints. I also went to the New York State Attorney General website and also entered a complaint. I was amazed that I received two different calls from the Attorney General’s office within a few days. I ended up getting my refund in about 5 days. Then I used social media to beat Planet Fitness for about a year. NOW, I was thinking about going and re-joining again today, because the facility is nice, good equipment, nice staff, etc... and on a whim I did a search and see that not only has nothing changed, my issues was not isolated, but the norm. It's really too bad because they could be good without this kind of crap.
So, I would recommend anyone that has this same issue, does a cut and paste of some of these reviews and give links back to this and other consumer sites and post them on Facebook, Google reviews, Tripadvisor, and other review type social media platforms. If enough people post and continue to post, it will make a difference. Looks like I won't be joining today.

On my first visit I had to wait for the staff to finish talking to each other about some member they said was rude, I finally got their attention and was told "Ok you're all set. No t-shirt, no black card, no tour."
On my 2nd visit I asked about the black card and was told it's not something they give you it's just the same key tag with upgraded membership. Another member overheard the conversation and told the staff member that he was wrong and that I should have indeed been given a black key tag, which he did give me after looking into it. I asked if I could use the tanning booth and he said yes and that I would just need to inform the front desk every time. I didn't know this because I never received the tour and nothing was ever explained to me.
On the 3rd visit at midnight with the gym totally empty I asked to use the hydro bed and was told I would need my key tag. I told him the other guy said I didn't need it and all I had to do was inform the front desk. He said the other guy was wrong and I did need it and I would also need an appointment. Why would I need an appointment at midnight with the gym totally empty??? In all honestly the old saying holds true, you get what you pay for. I called several times to fix that and they never did, only telling me the same thing over and over that I was binded, which I never agreed to. They billed both of the cards on my account numerous times. They have yet to fix that. They did not let my 16-year-old brother into the gym multiple times. Poor gym quality and very limited space. I, like many here, created this account solely to warn others about this shady corporation. It's unfortunate because I know Planet Fitness will never take any of these reviews into consideration and adjust their practices. However, if my review will help even one person, it's worth it. Please, learn from all of our mistakes. They've stolen enough money from us, don't give them any more. I've had the same experience as everyone here. I moved out of the country and forgot to cancel my membership. A family member informed me I had to "write a letter" officially canceling my membership. No fax, no email, nothing from this century. They wanted a letter, which I assume it's because it takes the longest to receive and allows them more time to steal more money from you.
When I called and spoke to a "manager", he refused to give me his name and stated "it's in the contract" that I have to send in a letter and that's the only way. Forget your stupid contract, I'm halfway around the world! I explained to him that I couldn't get a letter and my US account will soon be cancelled. He responded with, "We will just send you to collections". I was shocked. It was as easy as logging into a computer and canceling the membership. Instead now I'm overseas, being charged for a crappy gym with even crappier service.
It's just sad whoever is running this business. They would surely make more money if they treated customers fairly. People would recommend them. Instead, they're being bashed for their unethical practices everywhere. I hope by the time I return to the states, they've gone bankrupt. Either way, I'll be paying a little more and going with 24 hour fitness. They're pricey, but I've NEVER had a problem with setting up or canceling accounts. Planet Fitness is a poor excuse for a business.

This fee has tried to run through our checking account several times causing a check cancellation fee of 388 dollars a pop. In total I believe we have had about 150 dollars in fees. On saturday October 15th I was able to go down to the store location and cancel my membership no problem. I have now contacted their main membership line and talked to the assistant manager at the lancaster location and they have pretty much told me to read my contract and pay them. My response being in that case I would consider paying them once they paid me the 150 in fee I have had through my bank, or they could just do the right thing seeing as how we have never utilized their services and just cancel the membership. Basically they are a ripoff. When me and my wife plus good friend signed up to join we paid what was supposed to get a new enrollment fee and then first monthly $10 payment. All good. No problem. Well what nobody said at the time is that in a year they were gonna take out another $30 membership fee. Well that got my wife's account 3 $30 overdraft fees. So I'm sure somewhere buried down in the given print it did say something about a yearly membership fee. Well our bad for not reading it top to bottom but when you initially call the fee an enrollment fee one would assume it's a one time fee.
So anyway we tried to call and pleasantly I might add asked them to please refund the amount so that we would not be charged overdraft fees and that we would head down immediately and put the money in the account and then they could turn around and pull the money right back out. The bank was OK with this and we had it all set up. All Planet Fitness had to do was agree to it. Well not only did they not agree they were completely rude to us and told us to "read the fine print next time and get over it." Verbatim. Exactly how their customer service rep said it.
So beware. This company could care less about the consumer. All they care about is the bottom dollar. Which is completely ignorant cuz they lost 3 customers who intended on being with them for at least the next few years probably indefinitely... at 10 bucks a month for 1 year would have put $360 into that crappy business. I joined the Planet Fitness in Fairview Heights, IL over 3 years ago and found out that it was corporate owned. This location is the worst I have seen when it comes to cleanliness. The manager has no clue on how to manage the employees. There also seems to be a revolving door due to conflict with management and the employees, from the conversation that I have had with multiple personnel in the club. I tried on numerous occasions to report the deplorable conditions of the club to corporate, only to have the manager and his staff tell me that they CANNOT give out the number to corporate. This is a practice that I TRULY DO NOT understand! You would think that if you were running a business, that you would invite feedback on how to better serve your clients or members.
Needless to say, I finally had a chance to talk with a corporate employee about my concerns but only after I had a chance meeting with this person in the Planet Fitness Club. I reported the issues and even showed her the pictures of the toilets, sinks, urinals and lack of upkeep by her staff. She addressed those issues that day but after a few days, they were back to business as usual. I left the Planet Fitness family for multiple reasons but only after I reported to the manager my concerns.
Earlier this year, 2016, I joined the Planet Fitness family once again (Edwardsville, IL location) but only by the enticement of being able to utilize the multiple club location within the area. This new membership had promise, so I thought, with the 24 hr access and unlimited club Usage outside your home gym. To my surprise, I went to the Fairview Heights location because of the convenience when leaving work. After joining this second time, I probably used the Fairview Heights gym at least 30+ times but on 09/30/2016, I went to swipe my membership card only to be turned away by the manager, stating that I have used up the allotted visits at his location. I am not sure but this practice by Planet Fitness seems to be false advertisement! I am curious if anyone else is experiencing the same problem with their membership at Planet Fitness?

I recently just received an annual fee of $39.00 totaling $40.76 from Planet Fitness. Yes... Like most people I did not read the contract and if I did I would have seen the annual membership fee. I am a Black card owner. I signed up with the full intention of just paying $20.00 a month. I admit that I am at fault for not reading the contract but from my knowledge isn't an annual fee suppose to be yearly, meaning 1 year. If that was the case then I absolutely would not have any problems with that.
Since being charged this $40.76 I went back and read the contract and everything pertaining to it. I signed up in May 2016 and payed the sign up fee of $15.80. My monthly fee then started the following month June 2016 of 19.99 totaling $20.89. Then again billed monthly for July, August and then September 2016. So now I am being billed $40.76.
It hasn't even been a 5 month billing period so how it this an annual fee? I would've been more understanding if the contract had said semi annual then it would have been all on me. So I cancelled my membership via certified letter and since I had been a member for over a year I had no cancellation fees. I even have a document that is signed by their assistant store manager that says I owe no more fees. They then charged me 39.00 dollars. How is that for **. That is after the employee quality decreased significantly. They had no ac in the month of august. My coworker got a rash from using their shower once. They wanted me to sign electronically and I said no. I asked them to print what they wanted me to sign and so they did but the manager said that would not close my membership even though I signed the actual paper. The manager said he will not be refunding me nothing because they had not record of me coming in to cancel. This is the worst and ugliest place of business, the employees and management are rude.

The floorplan is simple and clean as well. I enjoyed the price I pledged for and is reasonable for someone like me who plans to use the gym no more than once a week. The amenities provided for the BLACK membership are tempting yet the spa section could use a little more seclusion. Great unmentioned programs such as weekly raffles and staff provided breakfast and lunches! I hope to make this business a lifelong commitment and surely upgrade to the premium membership. I have never complained about a business before. Ever. And at first I thought that maybe this was just some sort of oversight. But after many attempts of phone calls and emails and not being able to resolve this issue I had to result to turning them into the BBB. I canceled my membership back in February. Months went by and they kept taking the monthly dues out of my account which was $20. Four months went by and they finally got it settled but they owed me $80. I had to turn them in after countless efforts to get this resolved. I finally received my check today in the amount of $79.96. I know this is going to sound SO petty but they couldn't even give me my total amount. They just needed to rip me off that last final chance. Never got an apology or anything. I will NEVER step foot in that place again and I would definitely NOT recommend it to anyone.

Corporate gyms may be fine until there is a problem and the staff can't resolve it. Join a family owned community gym and you will usually see the owner daily. Have a billing issue, it's resolved on the spot. Need to know how to use something? The staff is usually much better trained at how everything works and how to use it. Community gyms charge more because people come and actually use the facility. The PF model is join, go for a few months, stop going, continue to pay. PF gyms that could support 200 people using the facility at any given time may have 13,000 to 16,000 members or more.

Be very careful of the contract you sign with this company, read the fine print carefully before you sign. My wife and I went into the Homestead, FL location to inquire about using the fitness center. After being given the tour, it looked like something we would use. They offer "commitment" memberships and "non-commitment" memberships, and different tiers of membership. This is when things started to get shady. I offered to pay by cash, debit card, or credit card for the entire year in advance, however the representative stated the only way I could become a "member" is if I provide my checking account routing number and account number. Imagine a company that does not accept money, full payment in advance. Read your contract and read other comments about Planet Fitness, once they leach onto your checking account, it will be difficult for you to stop them from removing money from your account.
A commitment or non-commitment is still at the end of the day, a commitment. You must sign a contract with the company, a commitment, and the contract has a lot of interesting information on it. Like you can't pursue a class action suit against them and you have to use their arbitrators if you want to "sue" them. They remind me of the old Jack LaLanne/Bally gyms. Then if you're unhappy and want to quit, they don't let you and keep billing your checking account. When you finally get fed up and close your checking account, they'll send you to "collections". Imagine a company that does not accept a full year's cash payment in advance; this alone should cause you to have concerns. I did not and will not ever join this place. READ YOUR CONTRACT before you sign. Be careful of who you provide your personal information to. Don't get caught in a trap, even if it's for a so called small monthly fee.

I wanted to join and they were running a special in the Ready Mass, $1 down and $10 per month with a $39.00 annual fee. No commitment. So I went to the location to sign up and I wanted to pay the full year and the amount upfront not involving my checking account or credit card monthly sign up. I was told that only one program allows you to pay upfront for the year and ALL other programs must be removed from an account monthly. The one program is the white card for $199 a year. So this eliminates the special 10 per month and 39.00 annual fee at $160 for the year. I asked the person at the desk why wouldn't they want money upfront to have instant cash flow. She said that's the policy.
So after reading most of the complaints on this site is because they want to have access and control of your financial account and that is how they are making their money because they are in control on your money. I have not decided if it's best to pay the $199 which is about $17 monthly and forgo the 10 dollar special just to save myself the aggravation that it appears most others are going through and keep them as far away from my bank accounts as possible. I just wanted people to know this is how they are getting people by not offering programs at the special price at pay in full because that how they hook you into getting your account information. OF COURSE THE PRICE IS HIGHER BUT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS WORTH IT.

I have been a member of Planet Fitness West Springfield, MA for over a year. Since I have been there I had a few problems with the lack of customer service of the Management team. Why did I stay for a year? Well, because it is the gym closer to me and just decided to ignore the Management team and focus on the work out and the previous assistant manager Roman was very good. He was very welcoming and he would talk to clients and make everyone feel very well. The bad experience started with the trainer Dan **. They have in my opinion doesn't do a very good job with his training and he seems judgmental, grunts and throws/slams some of the weights when he works out but they never put the alarm when he did so.
I once asked him about the free training because when I started no one offered the service nor coordinated nothing with me as a starter. He just brushed me off very rude and just walked away. I spoke to the general manager Mathew ** about the situation but nothing was addressed because no one came up to me to offer the service. The only one that helped me a little was Roman, the assistant manager that was there before, because the current one just stays back of the counter watching videos and making fun of some people that go to the gym, the making fun is basically when the trainer is there.
The second situation was regarding the tanning booths. Since I started going there I would use the tanning a few time a week. One day I went to use the tanning and the girl there asked me about the goggles and couldn't use the tanning booth if I didn't have them. I asked if it was new because I would use them and no one told me before about them. The Regional manager told me about the Massachusetts law about the goggle use while in the tanning booth. I have tanned before and have used the goggles in other tanning spas. This was my first time tanning in this gym (I have gone to other Planet Fitness but to use the weights never the tanning booths, btw services were very good).
I am not from Massachusetts and wasn't aware of the law, so the responsibility of the gym is to every new member give a complete orientation about how to use the facilities of the gym. No one had the courtesy to explain the policies because the documentation they give it doesn't say anything about the law in Massachusetts about the use of tanning booth. It is a general one used for all the states. The responsibility of the management team is to explain or develop a specific documentation explaining the law for us that are not from this state.
I again addressed it with the Regional Manager (I think with my Management background, the unprofessional management team they have is a reflection of Mr. **'s lack of understanding what management really is, or when he went to community college they didn't teach him that), but this time he didn't seem receptive with my concern and it seemed like if I was lying because the staff there started to talk behind my back. I addressed it and he just justified their behavior because I wasn't specific on what they were joking about (I validated it, because a staff told me that because of my complaints they would make fun of me, the person asked me to not give name because they would start bullying also).
The Third and last incident was with the manager (Kristina, a lady with flat affect, that seems hating her job and you need to pay her to smile). And what a coincidence, every time I had a problem in the gym, or lets say they had a problem with me, the trainer, assistant manager and another staff member that isn't there anymore are present and after an incident they start laughing. The incident is that I was using some weights and I am a person that always follow the gym rules, always put them away or wipes them off after I finish to use them. I was using the 75 lb weights doing the incline exercise and the weights are heavy, they would fall somewhat heavy, but I never throw them, because I respect the people that go to the gym.
She came up to me to address that I was throwing them and people were complaining. The gym was basically empty because it was like 1:00 PM. One client that was close to me asked what was wrong with her. When I looked back, what a coincidence, the trainer, the other ex staff member were laughing. I just told the client that they were just getting back to me due to my complaints. So I decided to leave the gym because I am feeling harassed by the management team. That gym is not a free judgement zone, nor is a place where they help or encourage you to train.
The thing is that the Regional Manager just tries to justify their behaviors as if I am the problem. Management 101, if the management team is bad, it is a reflection of bad management skills of the Regional Manager, and speaking to him, he doesn't seem very pro customer and just lets that management team do whatever they want. He seems very passive aggressive with his communication, he tries to be empathetic with the client, but fails miserably doing so. Also he always says that he would get back to me after he resolved the situation, which he never did. With this last compliant I asked him for contact information to the corporate office and as of today never got it. I gave a bad review on Facebook, and someone there suggested me to write to this email. I suggest the corporate office you audit Mr ** and his unprofessional staff, because colleagues of mine tell me that the one in Chicopee is the same way.
The positive part about the gym is that it was close to me and now I have to decide to cancel the membership because or go to a more distant Planet Fitness just because the incompetent management are passive aggressive and are not receptive with complaints. This is because the management team are very ignorant people and feel that they have the right to treat customers that do not approve of their performance very bad. So just decided not to go back, but the least they should do is to apologize for the bad customer service. This Occurred October 2014 to October 2015... After that I moved membership to PF Stoughton, MA... Now at PF, Cary, NC (very good staff).

"No, in your contract tells you when you will be charged. If Planet fitness were to send out these notices, it would not be cost effective to the individual company especially if the members number has changed, the member has moved and there is no updated address. We are receiving a high call from other members who also are complaining of the 30$ fee for June," she said. They, "Planet Fitness would lose money." Wow! She would use the same cloth to clean the bottom where you put your feet and the handrails you hang onto. I couldn't believe my eyes. How unsanitary is this? Also on the topic of gross... watched a member drying her feet with the blow dryer that was mounted on the wall. Then she put cream on her feet. Then she used the same hand to pick up the blow dryer to repeat on her other foot!! Come on people. Can you do this treatment at home?? People actually use these blow dryers.

The staff are so rude. We were yelled at like we robbed money or something. The girl behind the counter was running her mouth and didn't see that we scanned our membership card. Never apologized, went back to talking. We were embarrassed because she was so loud. Rude and ignorant is all I can say about this place. That girl is making your place of business look bad.

In April 2015 I joined Planet Fitness premium membership. In May I started working a live in nursing job and could not continue going to the gym. In June my account was charged an unexpected annual fee of $41.73. When I contacted the Ft. Caroline St., location in Jacksonville, Florida I was rudely told "You should have read your contract". At that point I told them I wanted to cancel and was told I had to come in. I did and provided a written cancellation notice. I was told they "could not cancel for 2015 but would not renew 2016." They lied! I never went back to use the facility after cancelling yet they renewed my contract without my consent in 2016.
I called June 2nd 2016 after they charged my account $41.73 annual fees and was told I had to come back in and submit another written cancellation notice! This is theft pure and simple! When is a contract uncancellable? By law all contracts have an End date. I will be contacting an attorney and seeking retribution of EVERY CENT they have stolen and I will be asking the attorney to look into a class action lawsuit. These people have cause undue stress, mental anguish, and financial problems for many people and they need to answer for this.

My complaint about Planet Fitness, Johnstown PA, is 2 fold. Check the fine print on their gym membership. By the way, this is the first complaint I have ever filled out online for anything in my 47 years. When my we first signed us up, they made us give bank account access. We gave it through our debit card and also straight through our checking account. We had apparently gave it to them a digit off of our debit card, but our checking account info was right. They double charged us for 4 memberships, so there was a total of 8 transactions taken out against us on our checking account. I had to do all the double checking and told that we were wrong. The extra charges, which were $80 in total, were due to our error. I asked politely if there was anything that could be done. They informed me that I would have to complain to some manager. I complained - no one ever got back to and nothing was done.
I should have quit Planet Fitness then, however my wife wanted to join the gym and overlook their double charging of us. Fast forward 5 months and I had four $39.00 payments ($156) taken out of my checking account beyond our normal $10 gym membership. There was no warning by mail or verbally that such a huge amount was going to be taken out of my account. I was told it was our annual membership fee. Nowhere in any advertising or promotion, did they ever indicate that there is any annual gym membership fee. I called to complain and was told, do I have a copy of my contract with me. I said, "Of course not." I was told that there was no way that they could refund any of the annual membership fees (5 months into my membership). Basically I was told that the customer was always wrong and they are right.
As a side note when I decided to quit Planet Fitness, I was told that I must do it in person. I went up there and 2 other people were cancelling their membership, and I overheard 4 complaint phone calls about the $39 annual fees. Look elsewhere for your gym membership. They have terrible customer service and the customer is always wrong. I was so disgruntled that I cancelled the gym membership 1 day after they stole the $156 out of my account. Do not give them access to your checking account. I will not deal with those thieves again.

I have been a member of Gold's and Planet Fitness for several years. For the quick treadmill work out and the 10 minute ride to Planet Fitness, I have viewed the most unprofessional staff in my life. I ask why would anyone including myself join this establishment. No one should have to stand in line for 5 minutes or longer to be scan to work out in a hot facility. I have witness people having to wait to join this facility for over 20 minutes and later decided to walk out. Oh they are all smile and handshake you coming in the door as a new member but soon after, the real truths comes out. I only wished there was another facility in a 5 minutes radius. This place is a real joke and based on my reading of reviews, once you join there is no cancellation.

Your guest policy is absolutely ridiculous. The fact that you can't bring a guest unless you're a Black Card member is arrogant and elitist. And the fact that you don't offer individual personal trainers and don't allow members to bring their own not even once to set up a program truly tailored their needs shows that you don't care about the health and well being of your customers. Despite your ads, you only care about filling your space (which is already too crowded at the times most people are able to work out) with paying customers. I'm on a social media mission to get this word out the day after you socked me for a $39 annual fee. I do not expect to be charged further by Planet Fitness.

I called May 13th to see how to cancel my membership. I was told that I needed to do it in person, and payments had just went in that day. If I come in before the 13th of next month, I won't have any more charges. I went in person June 1st, annual maintenance fee due June 1st just billed me that day. I asked to speak to store manager who looked up my account, notes were there that I called about quitting, does not know why I wasn't told about upcoming fee. I asked her why would I pay for another year today when I am here to quit. Nothing she can do for me. I really think it is pathetic that they have to steal money from clients this way.

I signed up online in 2014 and a few months after signing up had health problems which prevented me from ever using the membership. Cancelling membership is nearly impossible and they are unrelentless with collecting membership fees and late payment fees. You cannot delete the checking account and credit card/debit card information required when you sign up without going in person to the club you signed up with or sending a certified letter. If you call the club and ask for the billing department, you are told there is no billing department.
BEWARE YOUR CONTRACT NEVER ENDS unless you go in person to the club you signed up for or send a certified letter. Most contracts I have ever signed have a end date. I signed up online and this was not very clear at that time. You will be charged an annual membership fee at the end of your membership year even though you elect to not have the contract auto-renew which does not ever apply because the contract never ends automatically. I now owe $100.00 in late fees.
The main web page has a disclosure on legal notices that states legal notices shall be mailed to the member or emailed. I relocated away from the state that I resided in at the time of applying for membership. I did not change my address with Planet Fitness; however, I did submit a change of address with the post office. At no time have I received a billing statement for the late charges either by mail or email. There has never been any follow-up contact by Planet Fitness as to why I never came into the club after signed up. All they care about is money, nothing about a member. What a scam to collect $10 every month from a contract that never expires unless the member goes through lots of hoops to cancel the membership.

Staff starts off when you sign up like they actually care and want to help you but after the first visit that's over. All they want is your money and they don't care about anything else. I went to cancel my membership for health issues and all they could say is "ok but we are still going to charge you the annual fee for the year you won't be a member". I would encourage everyone to go to a different facility in a heartbeat!
