I live in Lockport NY but spend 6 months in Florida. Every time I try to transfer my membership I have a problem. They tell me that it has to be done ONLY online. I do it and I am supposed to get an email back which I never do. It takes a long time to get transferred and in the meantime they take my monthly membership fee but I can't use the club. This is a ridiculous system! As soon as I am activated I am cancelling my membership. It's too much of a pain to keep trying to transfer it. It's been two months and I'm still not transferred and I get the run around from everyone I call.

Worst experience with a gym...EVER! After reading all the reviews, it's all been said. So, employees rude beyond belief, filthy, members scare me, no rules or regulations. Hidden fees. Need I go on?? I could, believe me. Don't do it peeps. Walk away, while you still can.

I went in to enroll and take advantage of special promotions. I was ok with the staff member helping me (couldn't give tour) because he was alone, but I'm very understandable and in between checking in members he was verbalizing a script. The breaking point was when I tried to enroll and pay, I NEEDED A CHECK... I HAVE CPS, AT&T, and OTHER BILLS THAT ALL ACCEPT MY VISA CREDIT CARD, BUT NOT PLANET FITNESS.
I then offered to pay cash for the whole year and they said only the $10.00 membership, could be paid off in full, not the $25.00 membership. I can add and multiply. I'm sure they have calculators. Why then could they not do the Math and charge me for the whole year? Who and their grandmother carries checks anymore... It was a waste of time and drive, very disappointing experience. I'll just go somewhere else.

I went to planet fitness on seigen ln in Baton Rouge to check them out and see what they offer. The front desk person was very rude. She kept on screaming at me and saying "do you want a tour or just rates." I told her I want a tour. She gave me a very brief tour, less than 3 minutes? During which she was rude and intimidating, I was afraid of her. I will never join this gym. If they are rude to you before you join, imagine how they will be after you join.

My friend has been a member with planet fitness for almost a year, he went in to cancel and they told him he was weird and that they don't have medication for him. First off he is a veteran and second off if they want any business they need to not say that to people, even if they are already cancelling. Go to youtube and type in ** and look at the video that is posted.

I went to one location and signed up. I had been in and they stated they needed updated billing information. I told them I knew that as I did not have a void check when I first came in. They took the check and I worked out. Roll to that Saturday, I go to the location closer to my house rather than the one near my work. The one by my house states that they cannot use my bar code keychain as they do not have the same system. They stated that they are a franchise and would have to call the "home location" to verify membership. Strike 1!
Then they call the other store and find out I have a balance. I state they did not say I had a balance when I was in four days prior. The gym I am in state they cannot accept me to work out if there is a balance. They cannot let me pay my balance at their store because they do not do that. Strike 2! I speak to the woman on the phone at the "home store" and she states she cannot bill my information as she cannot access it and that I would have to drive all the way out to their location to pay it. Strike 3! I am so done with this gym. I liked the facility and how user friendly it was, but if their customer service is this bad, not going to give them my money no matter how cheap it is.

So the Commerce Gym Planet Fitness - Commerce Township is advertising a special for new members... how exciting, right? I go in 1-11-2015 to sign up. Guess what? The front desk does NOT have any contracts for new members to sign. The alternative is to sign up with their ipad. Not a big deal you would think... except when you sign up "online" you have to give them a credit card # to pay the initial $1.00!!! Now mind you I am giving them my checking account info for the monthly membership dues... If the office HAD THE CORRECT PAPER WORK TO PRESENT TO A NEW MEMBER the credit card info would NOT be needed. I did not want to give my credit card info to pay the $1.00.
The BIG BOSS man had to be contacted by phone because the ONE DOLLAR issue was SO HUGE!!! And after waiting 20 mins for him to call back, it was decided that the offer of the membership special would NOT be extended until THEY GOT THE NEEDED CONTRACT PAPERWORK... and that the option of either waiving the fee or me paying cash or writing a check COULD NOT be done.
NO... I HAD TO GIVE CREDIT CARD INFO BECAUSE OF THE "ON LINE" SIGN UP!!! I would say there is not a lot of common sense coming from the owner of this facility. He lost a potential member over ONE DOLLAR!!!! Oh and at one point the janitor/front desk guy suggested I drive to another facility and get the paperwork myself and then bring it back!!! REALLY?

Stay away from this place, I went in to cancel my membership and the guy at the front desk told me I signed up for a one-year contract, I vividly remember signing up and not doing the contract for reasons of moving! He says I'll have to pay a 58 dollar buyout fee! So after becoming angry, I go to my car find my contract and see it says 0 month commitment. After going back into the gym, showing the guy the contract, he then says it clearly states you have to pay continuously for 1 year....I told him that makes no sense - if I don't have a contract I can cancel at any time. He continues to argue with me and says I'll have to speak to his manager tomorrow which is a day late to not get billed! Needless to say,, while I'm typing this out the guy I had all this trouble with calls me and says he'll go ahead and cancel the membership. Never again Planet Fitness, never again!

We've been through planet fitness before. We went to sign up today again but now we NEED a check or have to have a bank. Our debit cards aren't enough now, even though the payments can be withdrawn. And you call yourself a judgment free zone? Please. There are a lot of people who don't have checks and for their own reasons don't have bank accounts and y'all are going to deny them the right to lose weight and feel good about themselves?? Totally hypocritical of y'all. If that's not judging, I don't know what is. I'm not a vain person, I'm a busy mom of 3 active kids.
I keep gaining weight and planet fitness was my only escape, I always felt comfortable going there but now I can't because I don't have a bank account or a checking account. My husband lost weight over the last few years going to planet fitness. It did wonders for his diabetes but now he's also not good enough to join anymore because of your "new system". Ya, happy freakin new year. Now I know this whole "judgment free zone" is a bunch of crock.

Planet Fitness just came to Moorhead Minnesota. I join the club with the understanding that I could have a trainer every time I set up a time for the trainer. I go to the gym and they tell me he's out sick. He no longer works there. The new one has not started yet. They seem to find every excuse not to let me have a trainer. It's been many years since I've been to a gym and I explain that to them and they stated that "we can show you how to work the machine but that's all we can do for you". That upsets me because that's not what they said to me when I joined. They told me I could have a trainer at anytime I wanted one.

After emailing Corporate Planet Fitness to cancel my membership they told me that I had to send a letter - to which I did as well as their email copied in the letter and then I had the local planet fitness calling me daily about overdue fees. When I told them I cancelled, I also sent them the same documents showing the date and they still continued to call me telling me I owed money - I explained that I had cancelled previously and did not owe anything as I had moved and my bank account changed so thankfully they couldn't withdraw further funds.. This is ridiculous, they still are continuing to say I owe them money and raking up monthly account fees every month because they refuse to accept my cancelled membership??? Seriously it shouldn't be that difficult to cancel a gym membership.
I committed to over a year and wanted to leave after moving and their closest gym wasn't near me any longer.... seriously a ridiculous way to get more money out of people! I will never recommend them to anyone now and will tell everyone I know what they did over me trying to cancel my membership.. Don't be fooled by cheap monthly fees as they also charge you an annual fee... See if they tell you that in their ads! Plus they will refuse to make it practically possible to cancel your membership... So be ready to keep paying...

Planet Fitness $10 a month deal sounds great, but when you factor in the hidden fees (annual fee, cancellation fee, etc., etc., etc.) you will find that it is not a deal at all. Also, it is nearly impossible to cancel correctly. I canceled twice, paid the $58 cancellation fee, and I'm still being billed every month. Every month, I have to call the bank and dispute the charge. These people are crooks. Don't be fooled like I was. It's better to pay extra to go to a reputable gym that won't constantly try to rip you off. Also, the equipment was dirty and often out of order.

I walked into the gym and was on my cell phone. I saw the sign in sheets were out. That usually means sign in. I saw that the employees at the time were talking among each other. I began to sign in when I heard someone angrily say, "Excuse me, excuse me." I looked up and held up my finger because I was on an important call. Then once again with a harsh tone in her voice she said, "Excuse me, excuse me, step down here." In the eight months I've been attending this gym in Niles (regularly), I have never been disrespected in that manner. Liz should be an example to her coworkers, especially if she has a business card with her name on it. The worst experience I have ever had at a gym. It's better to workout in the morning, floor cleaner, water bottles not left everywhere, and people are nicer.

I used to be very active and worked out every night for about an hour and a half doing cardio and some minimal weight lifting. I'm a 21 year old girl and I had a workout partner for the first three months when I joined but then I began going on my own. Let me say I had to purchase and carry pepper spray on me because that's how much I'd get hit on.
I had a guy at planet fitness pull out my headphones from the machine I was on in an attempt to talk to me. I walked away and went to a different machine. The man then proceed to follow me and get on the machine next to me and try to talk to me. I had to leave because I was uncomfortable. After getting my stuff from the locker room I was stopped again by that male and this time he knew my FULL name!! The employee at the front desk had given him my first and last name. I would have said something to the employee at that time BUT it seems like every PF employee is ALWAYS flirting with a girl at the counter and could care less about their job. I ended up switching locations due to constantly having my workouts interrupted by males.
At the new location, an employee admitted to me that he had taken a picture of my butt and a video of me walking. I demanded that he deleted the videos and he did. There wasn't a manager working that night so I left. The next time I went in that employee was fired due to other complaints. That's not even the other times I've had problems with pictures at the gym. I also was told that a male who came into the gym was taking pictures of my butt. I was embarrassed that all these people at the gym were taking pictures of me. I NEVER dressed inappropriately. I always wore yoga/running pants to the gym and an oversized tee shirt.
There were also numerous other accounts that I picked up on: I had an employee tell me that he watches me workout through the security cameras and another employee make a reference to how fast I undress due to him watching the tanning booth control panel and seeing how soon I start the tanning bed.
I haven't even started on the facility. First of all, A LOT of people do NOT clean their machines when they're done! And if you're using those mats to stretch or do any other exercises, I've never seen anyone clean them when they're done! It's disgusting! And on top it, the lunk alarm goes off for no reason and you CAN hear it through your headphones.
The bathrooms are dirty and I refused to drink from the water fountains due to the fact that many people stick their gum on it or spit into it. I started getting really bad back acne from the tanning booths, and I KNOW this is where I got it from when I asked a staff member and they confirmed that most of the people thought the staff cleaned the room when they were done (in which the staff didn't) so people were using dirty beds.
Also the manager at my location was a complete jerk. I found that if you don't flirt with the employees they remember you and do not attempt to make you satisfied if you have any sort of complaint. It's just sad that they worry more about the pizza and bagels than they do about the cleanliness of their facility. My boyfriend is a certified trainer at a local gym but it only stays open until 9 pm and I usually don't get off work until 10:30 pm and just seeing the differences between the gym he works at and PF is mind baffling. Sadly, this is the only 24 hr gym in our area.
I'm just going to save my money up and buy some equipment for my home because I'm tired of going to planet fitness and being hit on. Why don't they pull the lunk alarm when someone is being harassed? I'm not saying every person who is getting hit on is being harassed. Maybe it's because I go late at night, but you know what? That's the only time I can go. I was told to "go at another time" when I was complaining. Excuse me? I can't go at another time! I'm a full time student and I work right when I get off school. I just really wish that someone would have advised me that people at PF would have pictures of my butt and I would be constantly degraded by guys who have nothing better to do at night then hit on a girl at the gym, before I would've signed up.

To start with... My Wallet was stolen and.. well nothing was done about it and when I told them, they immediately started talking like a Parrot. "We are not responsible for anything left in the lockers.." and... "Did you have a lock,,".. Well.. "No!" I had been told it "Never" happened there. And I was always under the impression that people who attend Gyms are, or should be, of a different Caliber of respected citizens... You know.. who take care of themselves and live "Healthy" lives and make "Healthy" choices.. Ugh! How stupid of me...
But, I myself, worked at a "Real Gym" for about 8 years and only had heard of 2 problems with theft.. and it turned out to be an employee who was Stupid enough to try and keep a HUGE Diamond Ring after someone found it and returned to him while he was on the desk... and..another employee, after ownership had changed hands and one of the new employees tried to steal money out of the owner's Truck... DUH! Thieves are soooo Stupid!
Well the point was... I just wanted help in finding out who did it.. and I received None! Then they tried to act like it was a very rare occurrence... and I found out it happens quite frequently... And a few weeks later one man came out and said his "..lock had been cut off" and I heard one of the employees state.."... he was here earlier and I should have confronted him..." SOOO.. you have a suspect and he's still allowed to attend the gym... OH.. and when I asked about "..if we catch the guy then what?.." because he went across the parking lot and tried to use my Bank Card at a grocery store right after he stole it...(Again.."Thieves are Sooo Stupid") I was told that.. "..We're not responsible for anything taken from the lockers.." and so even if he's caught.. he'd still be allowed to go back to the gym...? Are you ** Kidding me!? He wouldn't be thrown out and Banned from every other P.F. Gym..? Well even though he was on film attempting to use my Bank Card.. The Worcester Police DID NOTHING!!! ! I even had my wet towel taken.. and I called 10 minutes after I left the gym to ask the guy who cleans up if he'd put it aside for me... He stated it wasn't there and he hadn't seen it...
I moved out of that Horrible, Filthy, Disgusting City... only to find out.. It's the same everywhere.. Within a week or two.. I left my earplugs and Wrist Straps out, in the Gym and they were snatched up... Then.. I set down my Elbow protection down and that also disappeared within a few minutes too..! I really believed that people in gyms had a better outlook on this sort of thing... and I sincerely hope I can look past this and not think that everyone there is a lowly Petty Thief... BUT... I do hope I can actually catch the scumbag who would do this... and just Yesterday some guy came. Almost crying, to the counter to "Lock the Door..someone has stolen my coat and wallet.." Don't know what became of that but...(Karma..?) I'm hoping to find a better gym that has a better outlook on this sort of Childish behavior! Because.. the way I see it... P.F. doesn't give a damn about anything but making a Buck... But.. that's my opinion and what I see...

Planet Fitness deducts the membership dues on the 17th of each month and my direct deposit from payroll will not clear until the 18th. On numerous occasions, this lapse has caused me to be a few dollars short, resulting in an overdraft charge. I have asked if the membership could come out on the 18th or 19th and was told, "No." It was then suggested that I cancel my membership and pay a cancellation fee. I asked if I could downgrade from the "black card" membership to the "white card" membership and was told I would have to cancel my current membership, pay the cancellation charge, and start a new membership. I then asked if I could "freeze" my account and was told that the "freeze" option is for active military and medical purposes only. I was then told I could cancel my account and see if the manager would waive the cancellation fee. My membership ends in March. I will not be renewing. Thanks for nothing, Planet Fitness.

I selected their black membership, I did not realize I was tying in to a contract, I took this one because it had more services when I asked the membership rate they told me 10,15 ,20. I took the third one because I did not have to put anything down. They told but I would pay an annual fee of $39.00 every year. I agree, I was not told would have a cancellation fee if I wanted to discontinue. The problem began when I notice payment had not been taken out of my account. I checked every day for three days, expecting it to come out on the 18. Finally went to gym in Debary Fl. They told me payment had not been taken out. I question. I went the next day to pay I had to pay 31.00 I asked "why, my payment is 21.0," they said "you are late." I said why, they explained maybe they entered my hand written account wrong. I said I took them a copy from the bank with account information as requested, I asked why did they not update it.
Counter girl in Debary office explained it was done after the 10th. Therefore causing me according to them being late. I was never told anything about cut off dates and that I was not allow to pay cash, only by check and the only time they would accept cash is when it was late. Called the Orlando office, I question why was my account not updated when I took them the bank voided check. He could not answer and not to blame anyone, but yet I was being penalized which means to me I was already being blamed for their lack of updating my account and properly relating billing procedures. At this point I spoke with four different employees and they're telling me that they did not overcharge me but they did. They finally had me give him a copy of my bank statement, discovered they overcharge me for a whole year I was paint two memberships on the laundry, oh Jim and Wade Hampton gym and they charge me the area membership fee twice. The manager only refunded me the $80 that I paid extra but never refunded me my $39.99 membership fee, they just froze my account. Two checks bounced because I told them that they're taking too much out of my account and they did not refund me for that.

My significant other Cancelled her membership over 3 months ago and membership fees kept getting withdrawn from account even after numerous phone calls to both local and corporate numbers. She was hit with almost $500 in bank fees for overdrafts because of these illegal transactions. Spoke to someone at corporate and was told money including overdraft fees will be sent back to her within ninety days. That has passed and when she called again, I was told that person was fired because she wasn't supposed to authorize that. Fees are still being pulled from account... She is at wits end here. Live month to month. $500.00 is a lot of money to lose...

So back in Sept 2014 my daughter joined planet fitness. To my surprise it was not an issue that she was days away from 17 and they allowed her to join. But whatever. The facility did not diligently put her banking info into whatever system so she was not billed. She was only there once anyways so just thought okay. Anyways she called to see what was going on since she had not seen a charge. Well they said “Oh sorry we need you to come give us the right info”. She owed 45 bucks. But she wished to cancel. They said it was another 60 bucks. She wanted to the do right thing, pay the fees. I said “No let me handle”, first time tried, no success just run around.
So I called up the next day, asked if I could take over the membership, was told yes. So rushed to get there because the only manager was there till 3pm, I had a meeting but rushed. Do all the paperwork, get the black card membership, pay her past dues. I am asking question “Why don't I have the black card?” Oh it does not matter. Then asked “Okay so I can tan use the hydro etc?” Yes and Yes.... Not even the manager that dealt with me and it was so imperative I be there for her. So I got today and ask if I can get info tour, “Oh we don't do that, it's not enough people to handle”.. There is nobody in there and your butt looks like it needs a walk around anyways but hey lazy young girl... I get told “Go to use the hydro”, get told “Don't have that black card membership”.
I am lost, I know what I signed and what I agreed to. They actually pulled out a contract saying I signed and it was different than what I signed. They actually had the nerve to alter the contract after I signed it. I laughed, they looked at me like I was stupid. Saying “Oh you can change it”. It's not the point. You messed up big time... You altered a contract. I had a copy and had it on my phone and showed her, she couldn't do anything or say anything but make a call. I said it was not the point that I was highly pissed at this point. And it will be fixed by the end of the business day tomorrow (Monday), if not they will actually hear from my lawyer (hubby) but it's the point. You don't do that to people. I do not care if it is for a less amount of greater amount. It's principle.

Joined this gym exactly one year ago. Went fairly regularly with no big complaints. Got a new job with an in-house gym so tried to cancel after 8 months. Called the place and was told I had to wait until October 1st to cancel, which I accepted. Called on Oct 1st and was told that I actually had to wait until the 29th of October, which I accepted. Called on the 29th and was told that I'd have to come in physically to THAT location or send in some certified mail. I said "are you serious?" and was told "then your membership can stay as is!" and promptly hung up on. These tactics that make it very difficult, even after a full year contract, to stop billing is why you should stay away from this place. They're nice as long as they know you're locked in. There is no reason why, in 2014, I should ever need to go to a post office for a gym membership cancellation.
I called my bank and explained the situation. They said they hear this about this gym all the time and offered to stop all future withdrawals, which I did. I then, out of courtesy, called PF corporate (I didn't want to get hung up on again by calling the original branch) and explained that I was cancelling and my bank wouldn't process their payments anymore. The woman I was speaking with immediately changed her attitude to complete ** and started citing that the "contract was legally binding" and that I'd be billed regardless and sent to collections. I said I'd be filing complaints online and hung up.

I had been a member of Club One at San Francisco and Center of Elgin Gym for years before moving to the neighborhood of this Planet Fitness after buying our new house. This is the first time I ever had gym related problems.
Back in Aug 2014, I went to the Planet Fitness in South Elgin to sign up for their $199/year promotional membership, as the other gym I used to go to was simply way too far. After a small tour and filling in the paper works, I was informed that I would need to have my checking account number as well as bank routing number, to activate and sign up the membership. Well as I only brought an ID and Credit card, so I was given a card with the address of a link on their website, and told to fill in the information there before I could complete the process and become a member .
I was out of town since then, about 2 - 3 weeks later, when I finally managed to go to the link and put in the checking account number + bank routing number and tried to finish the whole process, I received a message saying that the promotional deal had ended, and that my request could not be completed. At this point, I didn't think much of it as I thought this was basically the same as if something I tried to buy was out of stock, and that I would not be charged for it (WRONG!). When I told my husband about this that night, he got concerned and told me to confirm with Planet Fitness, as he had heard bad things about this gym from his friends and coworkers.
The next day (September 5th, 2014), I called their customer service and was assured that since the deal was no longer available, I would not be charged for it ($199.99). I thanked her for clarifying it and thought that was it, especially since when I control F and searched for 199.99 on bank statement, nothing showed up. So I believed her and never thought about it anymore (my mistake for not being more careful), or joining another gym since then --- as I had stopped menstruating.
Now fast forward to October 16, 2014, after my period had stopped for over 2 months, the first time I had some spare time to sit down and look at the bank statement thoroughly since the Chase security breach, I noticed 2 charges of 19.99 from Planet fitness, on Sept 17th and Oct 2nd. Feeling confused as I was assured by their customer service that no charge would be posted to my account, I called my bank to find out what's going on, and was told they would be happy to help me file a claim to get the money back and make sure this merchant won't be getting anymore money from my account (for a fee of 30); or I could simply talk to the merchant and have them issue me a refund. I thought sure, I would try that first.
Now comes one of the worst customer service experience I have ever received anywhere. She said her name was Darcy -- but would not give last name, and said they don't have ID number on their employee badges when I asked for it. Also said that they don't have a manager when I asked to talk to her boss. So No, I don't know if Darcy was her real name, it could even be the name of a coworker she hates, but let's call her Darcy for now.
After explaining to her what happened, and that I had called before and was told no charge would occur, she said the other employee had made a mistake when she told me I wouldn't be charged, because when I put in my bank info on their website, I agreed to their user agreement and had became a member and that she can not issue me a refund. I reminded her the website said that the membership deal was no longer available and my request could not be completed. To this she said "It does not matter. When you put in the information you had became a member", and kept saying the same thing over and over again no matter what I told her.
At this point I was getting frustrated and knew in the back of my head that I was not going to get anywhere with this Darcy person whom has no last name, no ID number on the badge nor a boss she works for. So I asked her if there was anything she could do at all, and got this: "No, the gym is a privately owned business, there is nothing I can do".
Now I understand why she never felt the need to apologize for what happened, why she has that arrogant and unhelpful attitude. It doesn't matter if the Gym gain or lose a customer. It will not affect her, especially since she can stay anonymous behind a phone. Who knows, maybe Darcy really is a coworker she hates. Me writing this review could be actually doing her a favor. After she tried to brush me off again, I Googled her establishment's feedback, and not surprisingly found 270 some negative reviews. I asked her if she knew there are 275 negative reviews already? She was talking when I said that so I don't know if she heard it. But after I told her that I guess she didn't care if I wrote down this encounter and posted my review for everyone else to see, and be the judge for themselves. She said "No." Silence.
I was quiet because I was getting very very upset and simply didn't know what to say when she said that. She was quiet probably hoping I had hanged up the phone. Anyways, our unproductive conversation ended with her saying "Is there anything else I can do?" Me: "I just want my refund". Her: "I can't do that, is there anything else I can do for you?" Me: "I don't think there is anything you can do." Her: "Have a nice day." Click.
I was not upset when I found out about the charges, things happen, we make mistakes as human, that's just part of life. What really aggravated me was her unhelpful and arrogant attitude. She admitted it was their own employee that made the mistake, but never apologized for it nor offer any constructive solutions. All she wanted to do was brushing me off. Maybe this is how she is trained.
This is not the first gym I went to and won't be the last, but I will make sure as many people know about their dishonorable practice as possible, and let people decide whether they feel safe to leave their checking account information, bank routing number, home address, full name, social security number and phone number in the hands of a business establishment with shady employees like the one I encountered.

Getting severely frustrated with Planet Fitness on Verdae Blvd Greenville SC. I went in personally on September 5th 2014 to let them know my husband and I were moving out of state and we no longer needed our memberships. We got the "sorry to see you go...if you're ever back in town come back and see us" scenario. Thought nothing else of it, until I checked my bank account and they had withdrawn the 19.99 x2 on September 17th. I have spent best part of today going round and round with them that we did as required, inform them before the 10th of the month to ensure the recurring fee would not be withdrawn on the 17th. Being in Montana, it is completely inconvenient for me to handle this in person and to try to resolve it by phone is utterly exasperating, as the guy I keep getting on the line is so condescending and talks right through me!
The alternatives he has given me, are to either go in person to cancel...which I have already done. Transfer my membership to a location nearest me...of which there are none in Montana. Send a certified letter of cancellation to the SC branch before the 10th of the month to avoid being charged on the 17th...well surprise today is the 10th!! ! He asked if I filled out a cancellation form when I was there on September 5th and I informed him that no-one gave me anything to sign, all the staff did was take the membership cards I handed them and wished us well. How can I resolve this issue and prevent any further charges and claim the charges they took on September 17th that they had no right to take. It's just short of theft in my book.
Just a foot note, my husband and I have not used Planet Fitness since my Cancer diagnosis over a year ago, so I would think they have made more than enough profit from us, that's all the more reason that I feel disgusted about them continuing to take money from my account after being told IN PERSON to stop. So much for their Black Card NO COMMITMENT slogan. I'm sickened that they have no further permission to put their hands in my account or I will press theft charges on them.

After several years of paying monthly fees and not using the gym, I noticed a posting for a $29 membership fee that I didn't remember signing up for. It had been a long time, so I decided that the best course of action was to cancel my membership and request a membership fee refund. Canceling the membership was not difficult, but the desk staff said that they were no longer able to do the refund, as they had been taken over by a corporate entity and gave me a phone number to call. I called the number and was told to call another number, which turned out to be the wrong number. Called back and insisted that I needed to speak to someone who could solve this problem.
All I got was a rehearsed spiel that they don't refund membership fees unless the account was canceled by the 25th of the month prior to billing. Since they don't bill or notify you until after that, they count on people missing the deadline and keeping the $29 for themselves without giving any services. I asked to speak to a supervisor, but got attitude from the customer service rep who essentially refused to connect me, but said I could leave a message on her voicemail.
At that point I had spent far too much time on this (which I am sure that they count on) and gave up for the moment. My mission is to warn consumers of their very questionable practices, their rude and unpleasant corporate customer service reps. So I have been an active member at Planet Fitness from April 14th, 2014 up until June 19th, 2014. Today I finally was able and had time to get out to the gym which was about 20 miles from my home which was about a 45 minute drive, in order to cancel my membership. I had stopped going in June because of a car accident that I was involved in. I was unable to go to do heavy lifting, do constant running and stretching. Also my job is physical so it was difficult for that too. Anyway I had gone to the gym to terminate my membership because I was not able to workout and did not want to pay monthly for a membership that I was locked into for another 9 months give or take.
They wanted me to buy out which was $58 and I said no. The uneducated employee gave me an attitude and did not want to help me or give me straight answers and told me that I needed Military leave note or a Medical Note written from a doctor explaining my medical issue in order to cancel my membership free of charge. So later that night I went to the doctor to follow up and get a written note saying exactly what the idiot at PF needed to hear and I could get my cancellation fee waived and be on my way.
So I go back to the gym and file out the termination letter and they cancel my account with no problems. Then I ask for them to refund me for the 3 months that I have not used the gym membership and they told me that I pay Month to Month and that I cannot refund the membership if I don't use it. So I explained to them my situation with the accident and how I was unable to use the gym and they didn't want to hear it and or help me. I requested to speak to a manager and she had the same attitude about it also. I was told there was nothing I could do and PF doesn't refund memberships.
So now I have not been to the gym since my last registered punch in which was 6/19/14... my accident was 6/21/14. I hadn't had the slightest thought to run to the gym and cancel my membership right after my accident so I had been getting charged since then. I have proof from my doctor that I wasn't able to go to the gym and proof in their system saying I hadn't used the gym since 6/19 and they cannot refund ANYTHING back to me. I don't understand why they can't if I have medical proof saying I couldn't. I called the corporate office and spoke to a customer service provider who gave me the same ** answer that they could not refund my money at all. What do I need to do to get my money back? Why won't Planet Fitness refund me my money?

I wish I had read the reviews before subscribing. Don't get me wrong. It was great to workout there. The nightmare began when I had some personal matters to deal with and had to move to another state. It happened so sudden I had to call them only to find out I had to come in person or send a certified mail and pay a closeout fee of $50 something.
I tried to transfer but the new place wanted my bank account info and I was not doing that crap. Anyhow I wasted a lot of money cause I never got to go to PF. I took the pay $10 to subscribe and $19.99 a month SPECIAL... Yuck and became a black card member initially. However, when it came time to be done with them and breathe sigh of relief. I sent my letter certified mail and called to ensure it was received. She said yes and all I had to do was pay the last monthly fee for it to be cancelled. This I did. Then 2 months later, while checking my bank statements, I see $19.99 pending from my card.
These unethical ** continued to withdraw my money and when I called Mary and her sidekick Nicole, they're telling me that now I have to pay a buyout fee of $58.00 and the annual fee $34.98 (the annual fee I was told I wouldn't pay if I cancelled in May). They now say it was in my contract as a black card holder and because I subscribed May 28, I didn't pay the annual fee, blah, blah and all kinds of **. They never mentioned this all the time I've been trying to cancel but now when I caught them with their hand in the cookie jar - It's my fault! So why then didn't they take out those fees instead of the $19.99 And send me the usual letter when there's a missed payment? They probably hope no one checks their statement. But I check mine religiously and these thieves are ridiculous.

I have not been there since December of 2013 and when I tried to go this year they said I had a bill from September so I could not work out, however they kept trying to pull money from my account. After my year was up and I went into a Planet Fitness they told me that I had to go to the original one that I opened account with. They have taken so much money from me and I still have a balance that they cannot prove I have.

Time on all black card perks is limited and cut to almost nothing. Finding a qualified trainer there is like finding a needle in a haystack!! Mystery charges on your bills.... I advised that I know about the cancellation fee of $58.00, and I advised that I want to close my account on 7-11-14. They advised that they will have to charge me for another month since they bill on the 10th. I said fine then they said that I would be charged a return check fee also. I advised the rep in the Oviedo, FL location that is the reason I'm closing my account is because that checking account is no longer active and has not been for a month now. And the last payment I made was online by my prepaid cc. And that I'm willing to pay the fee to cancel and the month but not the returned check fee since I'm telling you now it is closed. And the rep advised that there was nothing he could do, and I advised and that is why I'm closing my account with PF! And walked out of the club. I have been a member of Planet Fitness for a year. For the last 3 months (ever since I filed a complaint via BBB) the staff at the Slidell, LA, location have been threatening to use my banking info and sell my social security number. In Louisiana, there is basically no laws to protect consumers so we have to get social justice. Paul **, Mary **, Zach, and a number of other female employees have allegedly and continually stopped me from going to the gym by making erroneous fee's and balances on my account. All of my payment info was compromised according to Zach and now my info is out in cyberspace. For the last 2 weeks when I try to go in the gym (depending on who's working the front desk), I either owe a balance or I don't owe a balance. I called and recorded each conversation as advised by my attorney with these employees.

Had wife calling it, went to counter, ask if anyone turned it in, girl and trainer behind counter said no so I asked girl to turn music down so I could here it ring. Just before she turned it down, trainer said here it is and pulled it from his pocket. It was ringing and vibrating and he said I was the third one today to lose my phone. I said you took my phone and Mike the manager said no, you lost it and refused to do anything about it.
So I decided to tan and was standing waiting to tan and he let another woman and two friends of hers go in front of me. When I said something about it, he started saying I had a bad attitude and I needed to cancel our membership and started canceling it so we are now no longer members. We were members for four years and been to locations Fla, Okla, La, etc. This location is in Fort Worth Tx on east Lancaster St. I will let everyone know I meet and post on Facebook, do not join go to La Fitness. We joined a new facility in December. We were very excited. Shortly after things started breaking. Mirrors broke and fell off of the walls, machines down, hydro beds malfunctioning, massage chairs either out of order or not working properly, TVs not working, TVs not synced with machines...etc.. We waited two months for them to fix one of the TVs. Finally, in one evening my spouse came home and said, "I couldn't listen to the game show channel because the tv is broken. I couldn't use the hydro bed because they were broken. I tried to use the massage chairs but they had out of order signs on them. I then went to watch a show on FX while I was on the elliptical but the sound coming through was for another channel. What am I paying for? He told me to call the next day. This went on for five weeks. He had me mention it to the asst. mgr. She and I went over to the machines each with headphones (she took a pair off the wall that was for sale). I showed her what was going on. Soon after, maintenance came. He didn't fix it. I would call and they would do nothing.
Finally, I spoke with a woman named Chrissy. I did the same thing I did with the asst. mgr. I called her from the machine to describe the problem. She went ballistic. She yelled at me for being on the phone. She said she was offended I was calling her from a machine. After being yelled at, I had enough. I said, "I'm offended that you charge me $80 a month for broken equipment." She said she would check into things and call me back. A few days later she calls and tells me they have canceled my families' membership. I need to leave and never return. I asked if I would be charged for our memberships. She said no. I said okay. She said they were canceling us because I complained too much!
Fast forward two months, I'm being charged for memberships I am told I don't have and yearly fees of $39 per person! I called and I got Chrissy again. She yelled at me, called me a liar, and told me no one would help me. I asked to speak to someone else and she refused. She then told me my membership was the only one canceled because I used the phone on the treadmill. I wasn't even on a treadmill. I was calling her from the arc. They are a terrible company. After seeing a commercial that stated they will be charging an annual fee I contacted Planet Fitness at the end of May 2014 and was told if I come in June 7 and cancel the membership I would not be charge any fees nor will I be charged the annual fees. She said "Oh no, this is our standard contract but we know we have this promotion." I said okay and wrote it in my planner.
On June 2, 2013 my birthday, I check my account to find 2 $39.00 charges. I start getting calls from friends we encouraged to join. I call the Whitehall location in Charlotte, NC. The young man is nice, explains no it's supposed to be $39.00 with a black card. I am upset because that was not advised. He asks if I would like to speak with Heidi the manager. I advise yes. I said "I would like to speak with your manager." She gave his name and number. I called and was advised He was not available until tomorrow which was June 3.
I called and he said "Well we do have a $29.00 fee for the membership your husband has so that is where the confusion lies but it is $39.00 so you have to pay that for the black card." I advised him we will honor our commitment to the one year plan despite the lack of integrity and dishonesty. However, we will cancel my husband's plan. He said that's fine bring in a letter but you can't send in a cancellation until Sept 16, 2014 but will still be billed on September 17th and if I cancel, there will be $58.00 fee for each account. I told him I left the YMCA but I will send the letter to cancel and report them to the Better Business Bureau and my bank. While I totally understand other people's complaints that have happened with Planet Fitness it doesn't necessarily sound as if a lot of the problems are from the company itself. It's the employees and managers at certain locations in states. Me personally, I live in MD, and have only had a couple of minor issues with Planet Fitness. Overall, it's a perfect gym for me. I go simply just to use cardio machines so the cheap $10 price is very worth it for me.
My issues come with the fact that the gym REQUIRES you and DEMANDS that you give them your bank routing number. You can't write it yourself. They demand that you get it from the bank itself. While this is a simple task to achieve, it's very bothersome that I can't just simply log on to my account on my phone and quickly retrieve the routing number from there. If you do not give them the bank routing number (they refuse to use your bank card to take the monthly charge from. They will charge you an extra $10 a month because they claim they cannot get the money out of your account. Also this is a misleading statement because you can do this online on their website.
Yet, when I did that, I was still charged the extra $10, my PF location claiming they didn't have that info even though I already put it in online, they needed it in person. That's another complaint of mine - their website. Their website is utterly pointless. You can't change anything through it or do anything through it. Any button you press to change something just brings you back to the log-in screen. The tech team really needs to get their act together and fix the website. All in all, those are my only complaints. I've personally never had issues going into my gym wearing a tank top (I'm a fit girl) or wearing anything that they feel is too revealing. If I ever do have issues with this, I'll raise hell but so far so good!

On April 29, 2014 I was present at the Planet Fitness located at 856 Remsen Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11236 where I had made prior arrangements to meet my cousin Devon **. I am a Black Card member and have Unlimited guest privileges at any Planet Fitness location. At approximately 7:10 pm, my cousin Devon apparently provided Ms. ** with the wrong membership number initially; but which I corrected when I walked to the front to meet him. Ms. ** stated that she was not going to let my cousin in and when I explained again that he was my guest and that I had a black card membership which give me an Unlimited guest privileges at any Planet Fitness location (Which is taken directly off of your website for that location).
Ms. ** then stated that she was refusing to let my cousin in. I requested that she show me the policy which entitles her to refuse Black Card members guest admittance to the gym. Ms. ** stated with a rude inflection in her voice, "I don't have to show you anything and he is not coming in." The manager of your Planet Fitness Franchise, Ms. ** then called the police who responded and issued a trespass summon based upon your manager's complaint that she did not want my guest on the premises. The amazing thing about this is that the police was there within a minute of my cousin's interaction with the manager, Ms. **, which would indicate to me that she called the police prior to even talking to my cousin or myself.
On April 30, 2014 at approximately 12:20 pm, a conference call was made with your Planet Fitness District Manager Krystle ** who allowed my cousin and I to explain what had occurred, but it was apparent that she had made a decision on how she was going to handle the incident prior to our phone conversation. Her decision was to ban my cousin from all Planet Fitness. This is completely unacceptable.
I expected a much higher level of service from your company, and I am quite disappointed. Because I do not want to spend any more time on this problem, I expect a letter of apology from your corporation and believe that this manager needs to be retrained at a minimum. If I do not receive an adjacent response within the next five business day I will be making this complaint public.

The general manager at the University Planet Fitness in Charlotte, NC is extremely rude. We had some concerns about some of the rules and were asking some questions to determine if maybe this wasn't the right gym for us. His behavior was unprofessional and rude off the bat. He did not like that we were questioning any of the rules; he was defensive and argumentative out of the gate. They do have a no trainer rule there... and I do have a trainer so I asked him about that. I then told him OK... so my trainer wouldn't train me there but he may come work out with me from time to time at which time this boy went off his rocker telling me that's not fair to his trainers and he was just very irate. OK when I called, I was told they do not offer any personal training whatsoever, so this made absolutely no sense to me.
Now my trainer has a gym where I can go for free for training sessions... but he also works out with me too outside of training sessions. If I'm paying for unlimited guest privileges then I can bring a guest as long as I'm abiding by the rules. He continued to just be irate and go in on this issue. I told him I'm not interested in their trainer... I have one who handles my specific disability as well as my diabetes with training and nutrition... and he continued to argue me down about using an outside trainer. I told him at my job, he would be fired for this type of unprofessional behavior with a customer... Once he gives the rules of the gym and a member agrees to abide by them that is the end of discussion.
At this point this fool said I probably make $10 an hour O_O. Now what I make is far above and beyond... but even if I did make that much... what kind of ignorance is that? You don't continue to argue with a customer to force them to use your services or pay your trainer and then as a general manager call yourself insulting a customer talking about how much they make... That is just unheard of. He was extremely young and hot tempered and he definitely didn't like the questions or concerns. His response was about as ignorant of a response as I've ever seen from a person in any business. We read the reviews and we should've listened and gone with our first instinct. We will definitely be placing stop payments based on the reviews here. I am not even mad though... They are super cheap and you get what you pay for. Cheap prices, cheap staff, cheap behavior... it is what it is. Save your money b/c trust me, you will want to cancel this membership and they will charge you to do so. I cancelled within the 3 day window... so I'm good to go.

I immediately walked across the parking lot and opened an account with BOA which has really become an amazing bank and opened an account with them. I immediately called the gym and they said I would need to change my bank info online. He proceeds to tell me that he doesn't know or care what I was told by customer service but that he would not waive the annual fee and never even could explain what the other almost $40 was for. I asked how I could cancel and he said I could do it in person and I advised him that would be a very bad idea for him with me being as angry as I was, so he said I could cancel by certified mail. I have sent him a certified letter as well as a certified letter to the corporate office in New Hampshire.
I have also contacted FOX 8 on your side and they are going to be doing a story on this. I do need anyone else that has been screwed over by this organization to contact me or FOX 8 if you are in the triad area of North Carolina so we can get all the people we can to let everyone know how this place treats its customers. Feel free to write me if you would like to team up against this organization with me. Thanks.

They have oversold memberships. I had to always wait for weight machines and elliptical machines. The men's showers are nasty and the curtains are often torn halfway off. Trying to cancel was the worse. They said I owe one month's ($10). I say I don't. They won't accept my cancellation unless I pay $10. I will not! I will not allow them to bully me into paying $10 more. They can call me, and bully me until they are blue in the face. Since I have impeccable credit this will not affect me, but for anyone with less than great credit this black mark can really hurt. They know this and will continue to extort money from people $10 at a time... because they can. My suggestion? Don't ever start there, stay away!

Read your contract and never ever expect too much from Planet Fitness. I cancelled my membership after two years, and am still being charged. Why? To avoid additional charges, you have to cancel by the 10th. I cancelled the 12th. I said, "Why didn't you tell me?" to which she replied, "It was in your agreement when you signed up." TWO YEARS AGO. "I should remember this?" I asked. The person who accepted my resignation DID NOT INFORM ME that I would be billed. When you want to cancel, you MUST GO TO THE CLUB that you signed up at or send a certified letter. Do your homework. This is a no-frills, dirty, smelly, crowded place. Make sure that's what you want before you sign up - and keep your contract. You may need to refer to it years later.

I signed up for planet fitness in Feb 2014. Not even a month later I wanted to cancel my membership and when I went in to cancel they said there was a 58$ fee to cancel. They had only billed me once and I asked them to waive the fee (I had been there exactly a month) and the girl said no. I asked to see the manager and she refused. So I called Cooperate and the first time I called they hung up on me! So I called again and all they told me was to go to my home club and deal with it. I got a bill today saying I owe them 30 dollars. So my plan is to hopefully get kicked out today. I'm going to break as many rules as I can without making it obvious.

Myself and many others have been burned by allowing access to our accounts by other fitness centers and I do not want and will not give access to my accounts. Planet Fitness will not allow you to pay all upfront 100% or upgrade unless you give them access to your checking. Makes people wonder why if they get all their money upfront why they wouldn't take it. What reason would you need access to my account if I have already paid upfront for the entire year in advance. Access allows for theft and mistakes. Seems fishy to me like they want more than to assure payment and want something else.

I joined Planet Fitness in November. It came highly recommended and as an overweight person I found their "No Judgement" philosophy appealing. At first I liked the gym, but over the months the number of members has incrementally increased. It is very difficult to work out at the gym in the morning or the evening. The staff is disengaged from the guests. People frequently misuse equipment, do reps in the circuits, and no one on the staff ever circulates or tries to help or enforce any of the rules. They remain behind the front desk talking to each other, or flirting with each other or the guests. The equipment is frequently broken, usually for a period of a week or more (One weight machine was out of service for the whole month of December). One evening only one of the showers had a nozzle to turn the water on.
On Monday morning I arrived at the gym at 7am. I did all of my strength training, then had to wait a half an hour for a bike. There are only seven (compared to the literally gazillions of treadmills and elliptical machines), and two of them were broken. After waiting a half an hour, I went and showered so I would not be late for work. That evening I returned to the gym three times in an attempt to finish my workout, but the gym was so busy all three times that I just turned around and went home.
Attempts to speak to someone at corporate have been unsuccessful. They say they will call you back, but they never do. I am ready to cancel my membership, but I am nervous reading the comments here. We did not get loud at her, we just left mad. It doesn't matter to me anymore but just want people to know what happens if you complain. The staff there were all friendly and professional but the management there needs to grow up and take some classes on how to treat people. The last person I talked to at the corporate office was also rude. She would not let me speak and talked over me. She said the matter is over and our relationship was over with Planet Fitness. I called them back in September 2013 to ask how I could cancel my membership with them, the manager stated that I would have to send them a certified letter in the mail stating that I did not want to auto renew. Here's the kicker, the manager asked me to do it in late December and she would handle the situation herself. I waited until December, sent out a letter dated in late December, as she stated, and I made sure I kept the receipt. They play games. They deceitfully tried to say to me that I didn't send them the letter "in time" and that they would cancel my auto-renew "ANYWAY" but understand that I was legally wrong.
Does anyone see the game they played here? Yea, I do. Right now I am battling it out with corporate over this and I will bring them to court if they do not stop my auto-renew. Well 2013 turned out to be a nightmare, PF failed to deduct the annual membership in a timely manner & did not give me enough time to provide them with my new bank card info. When I went to my home gym in Harlem, to present my updated bank info, I was told I could no longer use my debit card, because of policy changes. As a customer of PF I was not notified in writing about payment plan changes, however during the change PF had an advertisement on TV for new customers to join using their checking acct. they will receive a free gym bag. The same gimmick that was told to me by the PF rep. I presented my updated bank info, a voided bank check & received a gym bag.
Months later I received a letter stating that I owed PF $108.00. I went to the home gym again to dispute the charges because the monies were being withdrawn from my checking on the 17th of each month to current. When discussing the matter the PF rep was unable to assist & was unable to provide me a printout of my gym statement, stating that they are unable to print out members info. I asked to talk with the branch manager, he was not available. I took a business card attempted to call him several times. It's been over 6 months & I still have not received a call.
On 1/19/14 I returned to PF Harlem Branch with anticipation to speak with the manager, he was not available. I spoke with the young male I dealt with last year. His demeanor was so unprofessional & he again was unable to resolve my problem. We got into a heated argument because he kept telling me to listen to him, why I'm asking him why I have $108.00 balance when money is being removed from my acct. He had stated if you had let me talk I could had swapped the bill out. WOW, I said so if you capable of doing that then do it. His tone changed & he said no, you have to talk with the manager. Then he also stated that the corporate had stated on my account that I was rude & a delinquent customer.
Really I said, when I asked to view the info on the computer screen, the rep refused. I advised him that I will return with my bank statement. I printed all my bank statements from 1/2013 to 1/2014, highlighted all PF withdrawals & had my brother take the paperwork to PF on 1/25/14. The same young man that I dealt with last week & in the past, told my brother I needed to provide 6 months of bank statement which was already given to him. He told my brother to tell me to call manager on Monday 1/27/14. My brother advised the worker that my sister (customer), want to resolve the problem & cancel my membership.
Unfortunately, these types of low-income gyms that is popping up in gentrification communities have to consider hiring staff that have strong customer service skills in order to deal with dissatisfied customers & as well as have managers on site 7 days a week as opposed to 5 days. I hope that one day PF corporation will have real people working at the corporate office, so that the line staff could stop saying "There is no PF corporate office". That's hard to believe, but also who am I to judge. Once upon time I was part of the no judgement zone, but now PF is a gym you will have to use your better judgement to join or not join!!! Good Luck.

I cancelled my membership in Oct. 2013. I checked my bank account in November and December to ensure that I didn't get billed, and I did not. In January, Planet Fitness direct withdrew a monthly membership fee from my account, 3 months after I cancelled my membership. I called the gym, was told the manager wasn't available but he would call me back. He did not call me back.
I called back again and was on hold for the manager for some time. When I explained what happened, he said they never cancelled my membership. I asked how it was then that I was never billed in November or December. The manager told me I probably just missed it and that surely I had been billed. Basically he didn't believe me. However, he said he could request a refund check for me. However, he wanted to refund me for November, December and January. I explained again that they had not withdrawn money from my account in November nor December and that the only refund owed was for January. We finally got past how much they owed me.
Then the manager wanted me to come in to give me the refund check. I declined and asked that it be mailed. He put me on hold, came back and asked me if I worked near Planet Fitness. I told him that I didn't. He then said it would take longer to get me the refund check if it was mailed, that I really should come in. I again declined, told him I wasn't in a hurry, I just wanted the correction made.
When we finally got past how much they owed me and the fact that I would not be coming in, I then asked how I could be ensured that they would not deduct money from my account again in February. I was told that they weren't sure why my account didn't get cancelled so there wasn't anything they could do differently this time. I should just keep checking my bank account to make sure they don't withdraw from it in the future. Unacceptable billing practices. Unacceptable service from the manager. My husband had warned me that his friends had similar experiences and that I shouldn't give them my bank account info. I wish I had listened.

My husband and I got a Planet Fitness membership in the summer of 2012 so that I could start working off the weight I had gained when I was pregnant... Because I didn't have my ID on me, they wouldn't let me put the Contract under my name, so instead of coming back at a later time, we just decided to put it under my husband's name and signed the 1-year contract for the black card (which is $19.99 a month on the 17th of each month)... 6 months in, my husband stopped going with me, but no one had bothered to ask our names when we came in, and my husband has a name that could go for either gender... So, since they hadn't taken the picture yet... I decided that I would start taking my friend with me as the guest...
Well, the day I started going with my friend was the day they decided to take the picture... So, after a few months I ended up moving and I didn't realize there wasn't a Planet Fitness any where around... I hadn't really had any problems from the one that I went to (which was in Niles, OH, btw)... Everyone seemed to be okay, other than the trainer... He was a bit lazy, asked for his assistance once and he showed me how to use the machines and wrote down what to do and never saw him again... No one sounded the lunk alarm, it was clean, you know...
Well, around May 2013, I had called in to cancel my membership and they told me the only way to do so was to come in and sign an early cancellation paper and pay them $68... I told them there was no way I could come in to that store as I had moved, was there any other way to do it... They said no and hung up on me... So, I waited until June 1st when my year was up... I called again and asked to speak with a manager who told me that I'd have to come in and sign the paper to get released and that if I didn't come in the contract just renewed itself for another year... Still, I had no way to go to this store and sign a paper to release my contract with them by the 10th of June...
So, after a couple of months I had moved back around the Niles area and decided to call in and see if I could cancel my membership, as I hadn't used it in almost a year and didn't plan on using it... They told me that my contract date wasn't up until June of '14 and that if I wanted to cancel it, I'd have to come in and sign a paper releasing it and I'd owe them a $68 early cancellation fee... I gave up on it... It seemed cheaper at the time to just let them take the $21.30-$21.40 out of my account than to pay $90 in one month (as my husband was the only one working, we have a kid and we had just moved twice in a year for a job)...
Which brings me to the semi-present... I had been reading all these comments on here a while back, seeing that people had said they had tried certified mail to cancel their contracts... So I did the same, as I still live about an hour's distance away and with a 2 y/o that's like a life time in the car... I called about a month later and they told me they never got it... So I sent another one... I made sure to get a signature upon receipt of the letter, so I know they got this one... They said they got it, but that I still owed them $68... I told them they had been taking $21.40 out of my account for a little over a year now, they had more than twice that amount... They told me they weren't going to officially cancel the account until I gave them the early cancellation fee...
One, I don't remember reading any where on that damn contract they had my husband and I sign that they were going to renew the contract for every year after for the rest of ** eternity... I'm pretty sure I don't remember it because it wasn't on there... So I got on Planet Fitness Facebook page... And, this is what happened with that:
"Hi, I was just wondering, I've been trying to get a hold of my old Planet Fitness club for a while, as I have moved and am nowhere near a Planet Fitness, have not been for a year and a half, and they keep telling me I have to come in and sign a paper to cancel my account... But, I can't, as it would take me two days to get to the nearest Planet Fitness... Is there anything I can do?"
Planet Fitness: "Hi Nickey - Thanks for your post! Per the membership agreement that was signed upon joining, in order to cancel a membership, one must either go to the club in person to fill out a cancellation form, or send a letter (preferably via certified mail) to the club, requesting cancellation. Please note: Memberships cannot be cancelled via fax, phone, or email. The processing of this cancellation request is subject to any agreement obligations. For more information, please refer to the membership agreement or call your home location. If your membership has a 12-month commitment and you wish to cancel at any time before the commitment is met, you can pay a $58 buyout fee to do so. If you wish to cancel after the 12 months has been met, the buyout fee would not apply. The membership does continue monthly after the commitment is met, until you cancel the membership. If you are sending a letter, please call the club to verify that your membership can be cancelled at this time. Please be sure your cancellation request (and payments if owed) are received on or before the 10th of the month, if you do not wish to be billed in the same month on the 17th. Please let us know if you have any further questions!"
Me - "Well, see that's the thing, I had called around the time that my year membership would have expired and they told me about the price and I was willing to pay it had I been able to get in... But then they said if I didn't cancel it the contract just renewed itself and I had to start the whole year contract all over again.... and that ended up being true, when I called in again, they said that my year didn't end until June of 2014..."
So... A little over a year later I find out that they don't renew contracts after the first year AND it's only $58 to cancel the account AND that I could have done all of this through certifiable mail... Finally, I decided to go through my bank and put a stop payment on Planet Fitness that'll take effect until PF stops trying to take money out of my account, not sure why I didn't think of this a year ago... I'm not entirely sure how they run from franchise to franchise, but I do know that the one in Nile's is a Money Grubbing Liar of a place...

I started with Planet Fitness about a year and a half ago after I left Urban Active, and was impressed with how clean it was. I will admit I liked it at first, but my satisfaction was short lived. First I was told that I must read my member number off instead of handing my key chain badge over like I was used to at Urban Active by a staff member in a way that I wouldn't deem too professional - "you read the number out to me, I'm not reading it next time." I was aggravated at the attitude, but let it go.
It also didn't take long for me to understand that the guys on staff didn't care about being friendly unless you were young, pretty, and a girl. I would constantly see members staring at girls working out, talking about girls working out to other staff members, and even approaching my girlfriend and her friends asking them to "come party sometime" and then following my other friend on twitter without her even giving the staff member her name. My girlfriend felt uncomfortable enough to make a complaint after one of the guys put a "(;" next to her name in the computer, which was followed up by a woman working the front desk who said she had no idea who she was talking about and continued sweeping without looking up.
Then the icing on the cake had to be earlier today when I was asked to leave in front of multiple members because I had a pair of American Eagle moccasins on while lifting, because they look too much like slippers, even though I have seen MULTIPLE people wear moccasins in front of the manager there. The treatment you get completely depends on what you look like there. I've heard so many bad things from people I know about judging based on your body type, pants, water bottles, headbands, use of cell phones while on treadmills, etc. and decided to give it a try anyways, but I think my time with PF has ran its course for me. Fed up with their "judgement free zone" and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Took the 10 cent tour of the lovely and brand new Planet Fitness in Prescott. Before signing up, and, being brand new to the area, I had decided to look at all the clubs. Planet Fitness did rise above the others in some areas, so I then decided to look at the online "reviews" of Planet Fitness and was really disappointed to see the many negative, unhappy and downright angry comments that had been made, especially with regard to member services, of ALL manner.
THEN, I decided to speak with the manager, Sean, at the local club. After bobbing and weaving my way past his henchman, I was finally successful, ONLY to have Sean PROVE out the said negative comments, by his heavily tattooed appearance, combined with a brute force attitude of "What do you need, I'm really busy?" Oh, aren't we all, I grinningly responded. I barely got to tell him of the negative comments, when he quickly and thoroughly brushed me off.
Corporate Isolationism is not only alive and well but truly thriving at Planet Fitness. Or, should the name be changed to, Planet Faintness or Planet Arrogance or even Planet of the Sycophants. Regardless of the title, many THANKS to SEAN, Google and the honest comments published at Consumeraffairs.com. Because of them, I got off easy, relatively unscathed and, without investing so much as one, thin dime.

First let me say that I have been a member of various gyms for over 30 years and I have never had any issues of any type. I joined Planet Fitness about 7 months ago. One of the first things you notice are all the signs and postings saying that they don't discriminate and there are no critics... unless of course you are big, or in their terms "a lunk". Being a bigger individual, I had noticed the staff being rude to me at times, but just let it go by. Today however, I was approached by the "general manager" because I was using a machine in the circuit training area.
Just to be clear, there was no one else in the area and no one else had been in the area for at least 45 minutes. Also, this is common practice for most members of the gym. I was told that the area was for circuit training only. When I questioned this and explained that it seemed to be common practice for members to use this area, I was told that it didn't matter. I expressed my concerns that I was being singled out and that it is discriminatory to enforce the rules subjectively. At this point I was told that my membership was terminated.
I am a physician and conduct myself in a courteous manner towards others at all times. This manager confronted me with one goal in mind, to terminate me because I do not fit their image. I will be seeking legal counsel. There is no difference between their clearly stated and posted discrimination against larger individuals and discrimination based on any other physical attribute. It should not be allowed or tolerated. Imagine if they did this based on sexual orientation, obesity, or race...

I would like to start of by saying that I was a member at Planet Fitness for about a year and 2 months. The experience was great at first, went through a lot of different trainers at the Washington Square Plaza, 4905 W. North Ave. They were a few good trainers. One was ** that helped me out very much and was always there when I needed him. Another trainer was named ** also one great trainer. Unfortunately the trainer that is there now, by the name of ** is very rude, into himself, lazy, only wants to train women that are small and good looking, very flirtatious, does not work well with the public and is very irresponsible. I have written a formal complaint against him already and called the main office. Nothing was done about this matter, it's so unfortunate that nobody even cared nor called to ask me what was the problem. Or that this gentleman would be held liable for what he is doing at this gym and to others.
When I wrote the complaint against this so-called trainer, one of the managers came to me the next day in the gym and asked why did I feel that way. I then explained to her why. She agreed with me and told me that she would speak to him about the matter, while I wrote that complaint about him everyone in the staff had read my complaint. That's confidential? Why would he, the trainer, be able to read what I wrote and also all the other staff members. That was so irresponsible and disrespectful. That is supposed to be private, they violated my rights. Because the trainer came to me and asked me why would I write that and I stated that I wrote the truth. He then proceeded to call me all different sorts of bad names and embarrassing things in front of staff and clients that were at the gym. For that reason I have changed my membership to a different club but now I have cancelled my membership. It's actually not worth all the hassle. I've been through so much with this so-called trainer. I really do hope that action is taken on this matter and that this does not happen to no-one else.

Planet Fitness at the 1960 & I-45 location in Houston, TX had been drafting my account for two months and then sending me texts that they never received my payment. They would then ask me to pay at the desk before working out. When I would check my account, the draft would appear and I would bring my bank statement in and the gym would reimburse me the extra payment. Since this occurred three months in a row, I gave the manager at Planet Fitness (**) a second checking account to draft.
Now Planet Fitness has been drafting both accounts for the last two months, and ** refuses to give me a refund, despite the fact that I've provided copies of bank statements from both checking accounts. I've had to incur a $35 stop payment fee at one bank to ensure that I won't be charged twice in the future. ** is unprofessional, has not returned my phone messages, stated to me that she cannot control where the employees in her branch leave phone messages or where they leave copies of customer's bank statements. Since the memberships at Planet Fitness are $10 per month, the customer service at the 1960 & I-45 location proves that you get what you pay for.

A new Planet Fitness is opening in Danbury, CT. I was excited to get back to working out in a "no judgment zone." That said, during the enrollment process I learned that Planet Fitness will no longer accept credit card payments for recurring monthly charges. (I had intended to use my American Express card to join because in the event of a fraudulent charge, in my experience, American Express is very responsive to their customer's needs.) However, according to Planet Fitness staff, though they request a credit card for the first fee due, you must also provide a checking account for recurring charges because it is "more secure." (A telephone number was available to chat with an employee despite the club not yet being open. The opening date is set for December 17, 2013.)
Anyone who knows anything about credit card fraud, identity theft, etc. will know that while your credit card provides some security in that you aren't responsible for verifiable fraudulent credit card charges, money fraudulently removed from your checking account is your problem. The protection and security provided by using a credit card does not exist for a checking account. I know in the past, businesses with credit card merchant accounts were not able to restrict payment types in this manner. However, I guess that has changed because Planet Fitness is doing it. Anyway, while I had been excited to give Planet Fitness a try, I will now be taking my business elsewhere.

What a big safety, liable and negligent thing to do. They have given us such a problem with the cancellation that you will not have a return customer in me and you will not see me out there praising your company. The Waldorf, Maryland crew is not friendly or helpful. They all sit behind the desk and talk the whole time. Worst gym ever and then your company has no customer complaint number for anyone to call. I lost so much money from this place. Poor management. Judgment free... yeah, right. They judge more than any other gym you will ever set foot in. You might feel more comfortable there because there are other people who are just starting out and aren't supermodels, but this place will find something to judge you for, whether it's a ball cap, a water bottle that is too big so it must be to "intimidate" the other members, or the tank top you're wearing because you get warm working out (male or female), lifting something that makes you look strong... Uh-oh, don't do that. They'll set off the alarm every 5 minutes and annoy everyone in the entire facility. Believe me or don't. My advice from hearing other people's stories and reading reviews as well as personal experience, find another gym.
Last but not least, the financial hassle. They WILL cheat you out of your money and make you jump through hoops if you ever want to cancel your membership. Don't bother trying to pay for everything up front to avoid this; they won't let you. You could pass away and they would still be trying to take your money. They are rude and don't care about their members at all. It's a front to get your money. You're only hope after you have requested that they cancel your account numerous times is to call your bank and ask them to block any further activity from Planet Fitness on your account. You can write this off as just a really pissed off customer, or take a closer look and realize just how many people are saying the same thing about this facility. The numbers don't lie.

I have heard of this happening to other people who work out at Planet Fitness - having your membership rescinded for the craziest of situations. So I show up today to work out at Planet Fitness when I'm on the treadmill for 30 minutes and this person comes in just covered in perfume and she decides to work out next to me. I can't even breathe, for one thing, then my nose stops up and I go all puffy and my asthma acts up. I have cancer and I'm on treatments to boot which is painful enough as it is. So I try to use the other treadmills but none are working. So I just give up and on my way out I stop by the desk, with a stuffed nose and sneezing and my lungs seizing I say, "You guys might want to think about putting up a sign at your front desk stating that people should limit the amount of perfume they wear in here while exercising since you have signs up stating 'no jeans, proper shoes' etc..." especially since if someone passes out while exercising from an allergic reaction they could sue you.
Well, I get home and the district manager calls me and tells me that I behaved inappropriately and I scared the (18 year old kids) working at the counter so my membership has been rescinded and I can't come back. ?!? Blame the customer because she warned you that you might get sued if someone passes out at your gym? What kind of logic is this? So I call the regional manager and she re-instates my membership but warns me that if I scare the kiddies again it might be rescinded. What I have to say to this is: "BOO!" Now, did that scare you, or did old Mrs. Deets lawsuit because you didn't prevent her from passing out and getting injured scare you more?

Planet Fitness of Canton sent the cops after me because of a credit card snafu, where Planet Fitness screwed up and said I owed $20.00, and from what everybody knows, the monthly bill is only $10.00. In the morning of June 18, 2013, I came into the facility, provided my identity code, and like always, stowed my gym bag in the locker room and went back to work out after having driven a couple miles to do so. One of your clerks said I had to leave the facility because I owed $20.00, even though the Membership Dues are $10.00. I told her I felt it was probably just a credit card snafu, that if she would call Corporate, I am sure we could work it out. She requested I leave and I said, "No, let's just work it out."
Instead of working it out, some minutes later, she approached me again and said I would have to leave. I again reiterated that it is probably nothing more than a credit card matter and that I have been paying regularly since day one. She asked me to leave and I said no because I just wanted to finish my work out. I again told her to get a hold of corporate so we could work it out. I don't know if she called Corporate, but SHE CALLED THE CANTON POLICE DEPARTMENT ON ME. Although the police officer acknowledged that it was just a civil matter, at the Officer's request, I did grab my gym bag to exit. Upon leaving, I gave the clerk a different phone number to contact me so that it could be worked out.
I went home, showered and changed instead of doing so at the facility, and then dropped back at Planet Fitness on my way to work. It was at that time that I advised the Clerk that I had been paying regularly and showed her my last two credit card statements for April and May in which payments were made at about the 18th of the month. Upon arriving at work, I checked with my credit card company and was advised because it had been subjected to breach of security, it was only good for an additional year and was still being utilized by Plant Fitness. Apparently when the year expired, the last credit card payment was rejected because of this snafu. The clerk had told me that the amount due was $20.00, even though it is a monthly fee of $10.00. I immediately reinstated my membership through another credit card, and therefore, resolved what I thought was from the very beginning a credit card snafu.
Subsequent to arriving at work, I received a call in which Planet Fitness Canton voided my credit card payment. A woman from Planet Fitness claimed that they had to call the police, which I believe to be totally untrue, extreme overreacting by the company, inappropriate, and rather laughable that you would sic cops on members because of a minor credit card dispute. It was embarrassing because friends and neighbors were in attendance at the time all of this occurred. Instead of working this matter out with a long term member, Planet Fitness chose to disregard good customer relations and sic the cops on a member!

I joined Planet Fitness this past winter. The gym was okay and since it was cold outside I was okay. The staff was a little lazy, and mostly chatted among themselves, but that was okay. Things have gone downhill since. First of all, my Planet Fitness uses paper towels to clean the weight machines. They can stay empty for up to 30 minutes because the staff is at the desk talking, so you need to walk around the gym looking for paper. The women's bathroom is sometimes dirty and isn't cleaned even after I am done working out. The showers are way too small - if you are tall or not petite, you will feel claustrophobic. The dressing rooms are as small as a small closet and have no ventilation.
My Planet Fitness has ceiling fans, but only over the treadmills, so the bikes and ellipticals are left out. The air conditioning does not work well (I was told by a worker) so they have 2 fans, one facing the treadmills and one facing other cardio machines, which doesn't really help unless you are standing in front of them. The humidity level at the gym reaches 83% at times which makes it hot when you are in a gym full of sweaty people and tanning booths on.
I have complained and was given an email to use, and never got a response, but when I emailed about canceling my membership, I received a email telling me the fees. I have respiratory issues, so I suffer working out. Many people don't clean up after they use the weight machines, so be careful - if you don't mind sitting on a person's sweat, go for it. There are only 3 small workout mats to do floor exercises, and they are filthy, every time you wipe them down, the paper comes out black.
My husband thought I was over-reacting to the heat issue, so I went over to The Rush fitness complex and tried a free 10 day pass and noticed the difference immediately. I sweated, but there was air circulating in the gym. They also had a cool down area. I think the tanning booths are unhealthy and not for me. I loved using the steam room and pool. The staff was so helpful and friendly. The machines were in much better condition and the music was great. My Planet Fitness plays Johnny Cash - who exercises to Johnny Cash??? I refuse to pay a fee to get out of my membership. As soon as it expires, I will be going to a new gym and can't wait. Don't join the High Point Planet Fitness, you will regret it.

I wanted to use the massage table which has a five-minute time limit. When not in demand, you can get another five minutes. The massage tables hadn't been used in over an hour and i signed up to use one of the two beds there. I was told that I would have to come out of my session and they could then give me an additional five minutes??? Dah??? Just program it to 2 five-minute sessions and the guy said, "NOPE, not policy procedure."
So I wanted to know what would happen if you did program it to 2 five-minute sessions and didn't get an answer. I have belonged to a number of gyms over the years, starting in 1976. Some had more amenities and some were better about basic training on the equipment. None, even in 1976, offered a lower price. All offered very close to the same facility experience. PF is close to my home because it is centrally located to most homes in the Quad Cities area. The rules do make it nicer for the average Joe, or an old guy like me, to feel comfortable with all the young people. It is so nice to have a place where my wife and sister-in-law can join me for a work out and not go away feeling worse about themselves than when they came.
Ideally, our Moline, Illinois location would offer warm showers. As it is, this is just a waste of their light, heat and space. I can live without them. It kind of annoys me that they don't offer a more eco-friendly alternative to the paper towels to wipe down equipment after each use, but it is nice that everyone seems to be very good about it at our location. I suppose dusting the HVA/C works would keep the place looking new as well, but that would be nitpicking at three times the price. My only real complaint is that the best bicep and tricep machines are only available in the circuit room. I normally exercise so early in the morning that the room is vacant, so I use them anyway. This last is the only reason I am not giving Planet Fitness five stars.

I say relatively because many of the women don't seem to know much about gym protocol and they believe that they can cut into a circuit exercise routine at any point they choose. Also, I have seen women sweat profusely on the equipment and simply wipe off the seat. The center is run by relatively friendly people on a daily basis, but the manager seems to leave a bit to be desired in attitude and attentiveness to the clients. The PF tries to make sure that the place is clean. The manager even checks the equipment for DUST. The pricing and cancellation process was thoroughly explained and I was allowed to change my initial enrollment to a "Black" card without any problem.
The Planet Fitness organizations appear to be individually owned and operated because the Westminster, PF does not accept credit cards or cash. The only form of payment is by electronic extraction from a bank account. It was recommended that I open a checking account for that purpose. That way if there is a problem, I can always close the account. The PF that I attend is new so I hope that as time passes, it does not develop the problems that have been expressed on this website.

Contract, don't believe it. I joined Planet Fitness on June 17, 2012. At that time, I signed a form authorizing them to deduct $19.99 monthly from my checking account which was the fee. Since 1 year is approaching, I didn't intend to keep the membership. I went on May 18 to cancel. I couldn't without paying $58 to fulfill my contract. Keep in mind, they had already taken May's payment, only June remained. This morning, June 3rd, they deducted $39 from my checking account. I called to find out what it was. Guess what? Annual fee even though I was assured in May when I came I was there that only the June payment would be deducted from my contract. I went back this afternoon to cancel. They wanted $58 to cancel. Really? No contracts, don't believe it!

I have been a Black Card Member with PF for a year now and have never had an issue. My membership fee is deducted once a month and I was recently charged the annual $39.99 fee which was explained to me at the time I signed up. I have never seen anyone kicked out and only once in a year have there been other members who were disrespectful. Some of the issues listed here seem to be specific for each Gym. You have to remember that they share the same name, not management. You get what you pay for - a low-cost gym membership. If you're worried about theft, don't bring valuables into the gym... common sense. I would recommend this gym if you just want an affordable place to work out where trainers don't walk around trying to get you to sign up for things.

I went to the website for Planet Fitness and there is nowhere on the website to contact the company to resolve any issue. If you click on the button for My credit card is set up on a recurring charge each month for $19.99, but last night there was a charge for $39 charged for golf at some club they own. I do not play golf. Now I will have to go to a local Planet Fitness to complain. If a company gets as many bad reviews as this one does, they should have a way for consumers to get in touch with them on their website. When you go to the Member Services tab, it asks for your zip code. When you try to put it in, you get several pop-up ads each time you try to put it in. They do not want you to be able to contact the company. This tells me they do not care about their customers. I am angry that I am spending my Saturday trying to get this charge off and cannot even get in touch with Planet Fitness.

I got a membership with Planet Fitness in May of 2012. My boyfriend and I found out that we could get a membership at 24-Hour Fitness for a little over $300 for two years, so I figured we would get the 24-Hour Fitness membership and once my year was up, I would cancel my account with PF. I called on May 3, 2013 to ask when I could cancel my membership with PF and not incur any dues, i.e., annual fees or cancellation fees. I was told that I could cancel from May 23rd to June 10th and not incur any charges. I went in yesterday, May 29th, to cancel and I was told I would incur a cancellation fee and I was also told that the draft due on June 1st for the annual fee already went out on May 25th. I asked why I was told I could cancel from May 23rd to June 10th. He told me I had ONE day to cancel.
My annual membership expired on May 23rd. I could have cancelled May 24th with no charges (however, no one made me aware of this until yesterday) and the draft went out on May 25th. I asked why no one told me this... The man told me this wasn't usual for this to happen to everyone, but that for some reason, this was just how my account is. I think one day to cancel is ridiculous and the fact that no one told me when I called was even more ridiculous. I told the man I would put a stop payment on the annual fee. He said he couldn't tell me what to do but that I would incur the charge to cancel it from my bank, of course, and also a charge from PF and that I would also have to pay an additional charge to cancel since I was now on a new one-year contract. This is absolutely ridiculous.

My wife and I joined this gym a month ago. My wife is a personal trainer outside of this gym; however, she joined Planet Fitness for her own personal workouts. She has been coming on average 4 times a week for a month, most of the time alone. A few times, she has brought a guest or arrived with another club member to work out with. Two weeks ago, she was working out with two other Black card members and was reprimanded by a staff member because she and her two friends did one exercise side by side in tandem. Staff said, "It looks like they're copying your movements, and that's not allowed."
Yesterday my wife brought in a guest who was interested in joining. They were working out together doing similar exercises. When my wife offered her friend some advice on proper form, the assistant manager ran over to my wife and accused her of "training" in the facility. This morning, we got a phone call from another manager at the facility stating that based on the fact that my wife is an outside fitness professional, they are canceling my wife's membership.
We asked to speak to a regional manager, and received a call back from him within 30 minutes. The regional manager said he was sticking with his assistant manager's decision to revoke her membership, and it was based on the fact that my wife is a personal trainer outside of the club. He stated that Planet Fitness is a "judgement free" zone; however, it does not want any trainers working out in their facility. I asked the regional manager where the policy/rules states that a trainer is not allowed, and he said it's not posted anywhere in club or in the contract anywhere. She was never approached by a manager with a warning prior to termination.
My wife, a professional in the health and wellness industry for 20+ years, was discriminated against because of her profession outside of Planet Fitness' establishment. Additionally, the regional manager revoked my membership as well with no explanation or reason. I am not a personal trainer. I'm just married to one.

I joined Planet Fitness in 2012 in one of their sales blitz in our local area, Garner, NC. It was a good deal for $10 per month. I didn't expect saunas and pools and didn't really use those things very often anyway. The first red flag to me was they kept trying to get my checking account information, but I only gave them my credit card. I know that the bank will accept any charges, and you have to dispute them after the fact. No thanks. About 6 or 7 months in to my membership, I wanted to upgrade so I could go to other locations. The upgrade was only $10, so total is now $20 per month. You would think the company would want members to upgrade? What they did was lock me in to a new 12-month contract that nullifies the original contract.
A few months later, I had 3 herniated discs in my neck. I didn't cancel then. I thought I would be back in a few months. Then I learned that I really needed yoga and low impact classes before I could lift weights again, and Planet Fitness doesn't do that. So I wrote them a letter and sent it certified US Mail as specified in the agreement. They denied it saying that I am no longer in a month to month. They offered to allow me to pay them a $58 buyout to get out of the new contract. It is my fault in part that I allowed them to do this, but it doesn't excuse them from bad business practices. If I had known that I would be locked in to a new agreement, I would never have signed it.
Just be aware if you want to go to Planet Fitness, that you get what you pay for and understand what they want even if it’s verbal or over the phone. They are a sales based business and won’t easily let you stop paying.

The point is, I do know how to act when in a fitness center and I know what's legal, and what is just some ** that Planet Fitness promotes as rules! On three different occasions, with the last and most volatile being yesterday, May 14, 2013, I was picked out of a crowded gym, disrespected and had my membership canceled for "helping people"! To be more specific, I took 10 seconds out of my workout to show an asking friend how to use the treadmill. WTF! Approximately 15 minutes later, the local gigolo trainer who works there approached me during my workout stating the $10 an hour making assistant manager wanted to see me.
When I approached the assistant manager, he stated that his manager had warned me about helping and he was canceling my membership and didn't want to talk about it. WTF! How can a fitness center which is the sponsor for a weight loss show, whose competitors get trained throughout the duration of the show, actually make such a statement? Kicked out for helping others? What was brought to my attention afterwards was that the individual I "helped" was a love interest of the assistant manager.
To make a long story short, nowhere in the contract does it say that a member cannot spot, help, assist, teach or train another member! I was told by the owner, Mike, that even if I bring a member on my guest pass, I cannot assist them in any way. With all the negative things been said and done by Planet **, I will be surprised if they are in business for too much longer. Look what happened to Urban Active!

Did I mention they often seem to have "wife beater" shirts on?
I would like to see Planet Fitness have a big slogan on the wall saying Respect For Women first and foremost. Because of the low price, there are so many different facets of society utilizing this place. As a white person, I don't want to indulge being "entitled" (to quiet, the no cell phone conversation being enforced) but as a woman, and one with undoubtedly some bipolar stuff genetically, I do think my needs should be respected too (and I shouldn't need to quake in terror approaching some of these guys to articulate those needs).

My dissatisfaction comes with attempting to cancel my membership in late March. I specifically told the staff person I did not want to renew in April and asked how long I could continue coming with my March membership paid. The staff person said that my March membership would continue into April, I think around the 13th. I stopped coming earlier than that in April, knowing that I had not paid for it. I thought that the transaction cancelling my April membership was complete.
My husband found out today that Planet Fitness has billed me for April and asked why I wasn't coming anymore. I spoke to manager ** and regional manager ** (Greensprings Ave, York, PA). They both said that I could not get a refund for April because all staff is trained to have members fill out a cancellation form when they wish to cancel. Because staff did not mention that to me and I did not fill out a form, they are charging me. I would like the $10, small amount that it is, refunded because I told the staff I did not want April membership.
In my opinion, it was their responsibility to tell me the procedure for cancellation rather than continuing to bill me. Good customer service is an important part of any business and I found the Planet Fitness staff to be unwilling to bend from their position. I was very disappointed and will not be returning to Planet Fitness in the future. (My husband has been a faithful member for years.) I would appreciate redress of this problem. My husband's membership was revoked at Planet Fitness in Benton Harbor, MI on Mall Road because the manager claimed my husband dropped the dumbbells, which he did not. He sat them down. This was only our second time being there. The first time we went the manager accused my husband of dropping the dumbbells (which all he did was place them on the ground and it made a sound). My husband apologized. I was scared of working out there again because I was afraid I might make a noise with my dumbbells and get yelled at too, but my husband reassured me that it would be okay and maybe he was just warning us because it was our first time there.
The second time we went, it was only two minutes of arrival when the manager once again accused us of throwing our weights, which once again all my husband did was put them down. So the manager asked us to go to the front desk. He then proceeded to lecture us, then revoked my husband's membership and told him to get out. We demanded our refund and he refused us. I want at least my husband's money back and not only that, but an apology. I feel like we were discriminated towards and I have never been so embarrassed in my life. I actually started crying.

I'm really saddened to state this review because I have been very verbal about how much I like the Planet Fitness I joined. However, I usually go to the gym in the morning and recently my schedule changed. So now I go in the early evening. Going in the morning, I never have to deal with members who do not understand gym etiquette nor have I ever been faced with staff that do not understand what customer service means. Specifically, I was waiting to use the leg extension machine and both of the machines were being used. I patiently waited by the extension machine while I thought the person was going to complete a set. However, the person looked me straight in the face, took a break and continued to superset on the extension machine. I was so disgusted that I knew if I said something, it was not going to be pretty. Note: The sign directly in front of the leg extension states "no supersetting."
Before I left, I stopped at the desk and informed the young staff about my experience. Very quickly I realized my definition and theirs was not the same for supersetting. Their definition of supersetting was when someone used different equipment back to back. I informed them the definition of supersetting is not based on equipment, but based on exercises. The young man stated it's okay for an individual to stay on a piece of equipment for 15-20 minutes, even when it's busy. The really sad part of this entire situation was the fact that the staff continued telling me what I could do to fix the situation. This was where my disgusted feeling for this concern escalated.
The escalation was due to the fact that my suggestion initially was to state during busy times, staff would really be a huge help if they walked around, especially in the free weight and equipment area where customers might be tempted to ignore the rules. The staff quickly stated all of the things I could do to fix the situation as well as define supersetting incorrectly. Shame, shame, shame. One of the staff even stated in school, she learned the definition she stated to me for supersetting. I have a PhD, I'm an RN and I was a competitive bodybuilder. I don't want to cancel my membership, but is Planet Fitness listening? Let me know. Thanks.

Planet Fitness is not a member of the BBB. Planet Fitness (PF) may bill themselves as a judgment-free zone but not a billing-optional zone. Though PF franchises will happily accept full credit card payments for memberships, they will not accept reoccurring credit card payments. PF instead wants access to your bank account. So the consumer knows several things: PF can accept cash, credit cards, checks and electronic bank payments. PF chooses only to accept electronic bank payments. If your credit card information is stolen and used, you can dispute the charge, freeze the account and block the vendor. In other words, you don't have to pay for charges you didn't make! If your bank account information is stolen and used, guess what, once the money is gone, it's hard if not impossible to get back. Not to mention, you have a much greater mess now paying your other bills without cold, hard cash.
PF claims the security checkpoint process is longer with credit cards. It's not true! Here's the real reason. What PF really wants is to prop up their business model, record and ensure they have consistent/guaranteed cash flow. PF is operating in the Stone Age where members are policed. PF is taking your personal liberty away, their financial security guarantees in exchange for your personal liberty to manage and pay your own bills. Reality check: When is the last time your landlord demanded you auto pay your rent or the bank demanded you auto pay your mortgage? Utilities? Car loan? Student loan? Exactly, consumers and the law would not stand for it! PF has the right to conduct business any way it chooses. I'm sharing to raise consumer awareness.

I am taking my time to write this because as a service provider, it is important to know the quality of service that you are providing to your customer. I join this club because it is close by my place and it would be easier to commute to exercise. When I first started, I thought that the gym was compatible to the membership paid. This year, I noticed that the environment has changed completely. First, let’s start with the cleanness of the gym. The ladies bathroom has not been cleaned in the past 2 weeks at least. The toilet bowl is very dirty with residues all over the place. The toilet has been clogged the past two weeks as well. The sink is nasty and needs to be cleaned urgent.
I understand that every business seeks for profit, but there are a number of people that can join the gym and have a quality workout. If you have 3 machines out of work for many days in a row, definitely it will be impossible to find one single machine to use. All the lifting machines are taken (and I meant all!). If your time of waiting between machines is greater or equal the time that you are exercising, this is a waste of time. After dealing with an overpacked gym, I decided to start using the 30-minute workout. Unfortunately, it is impossible. First, all the step blocks are a mess in the past 3 weeks. Nobody ever bothered to fix it. People jumping all over the place from one machine to another. I thought you are supposed to do the whole circuit. The sign is clear, but no enforcement is existent.
I always see at least 3 people behind the counter but none circulating the gym, which gives people the opportunity to do whatever they want, not to mention people on their phones all over the gym. I think you guys should take some action to better represent your brand. I would never refer this gym to anybody. I cannot wait to end my membership and move to another gym.

They said I would need to give them my checking account number and bank routing number since it is a debit card with the Visa logo. They also stated it was a PF policy that they do not accept debit cards with the Visa logo on it. They said I could call and report the card as lost or stolen and they would issue me a new number! Duh! Any credit card issuer would do that but they still stated no.
I have worked in a bank for over 10 years now and knew that these people were trying to pull a fast one on me. I joined Planet Fitness at the opening of this facility and have paid my monthly dues, referred five people to the gym and have been an active participator in this gym. Upon joining, it appeared that the staff were disorganized and appeared uncertain of the regulations, rules and were less than helpful at explaining how to use the red light therapy machines and hydro-massage beds. The inconsistency in management remains a deep concern, but not as deep of a concern as the way I was treated tonight.
I came to the gym and like every night, laid my coat and bag behind the machine I was using. Never has anyone said anything to me about this prior and I was not given a list of rules or any paperwork upon joining. Tonight out of the blue, after I had already started my workout, I was asked if an employee could take my belongings behind the desk. My response, "No, I would like to workout. My bag has my personal belongings and necessary items for medical issues that I keep close by while working out." This worker walked away. At the end of my workout, the manager/franchise operator approached me, stating that he did not like my attitude and he would give me a sheet to withdraw from my contract.
When I asked to take these sheets home for my husband and I to complete and return, he refused to allow me to leave the premises with these sheets. Upon checking the website, it states that I would be allowed to return these via certified mail. Once again, another inconsistency. Due to the buyout fee that comes with yearly contracts and the fact that our contract is up after three more payments, we will continue the terms of our contract. The minute this contract is up, my husband and I will be leaving this gym. In an economy that is falling, it blows my mind that someone would treat their customer in such an unprofessional way.
Upon my husband contacting the gym and speaking with the associate manager, it was reported that the general manager was visiting the facility this evening. Apparently, the incompetency of the gym to educate and kindly enforce their regulations on a day to day basis caught up with this manager as he scrambled to save face. Sadly, in the eyes of many customers tonight, he indeed did not save face as I was not the only customer who was bullied by the manager to comply with rules that were never spoken of or enforced prior to the general manager's visit. The only comfort that I took was that I saw this same manager treating others in a similar fashion, which as a female allowed me to feel less threatened by this behavior.
If you are looking for a gym where you can workout, de-stress and provide good self-care, this town is packed with gyms that can offer you this. This unfortunately is not one of them. If you are on a budget, Charter Fitness offers an affordable package with competent staff who are respectful and professional in demeanor. Upon placing a review on Yelp, I had a message on my personal cell phone for my husband. Upon discussing this with my husband, I returned their phone call myself. After all, we are all adults. The manager refused to speak to me and then stated that she was returning a phone call that my husband placed. I knew that this was not true and told the manager that I just spoke with my husband and knew that he did not call. If he did, certainly he would have left his number.
The manager refused to speak to me. I was appalled at their inability to speak to me about me and their belief that my husband parents me, and would tell me what I can and cannot say or do. Upon my husband's contact, I was informed that I could remain at the gym if I remove this post. I have contacted corporate offices and was treated very kindly. I am hoping for a resolve, having cancellation fee removed or at the very least - a professional apology and conversation.

The bank representative told me that there is absolutely no record of Planet Fitness ever attempting to charge my bank account for anything. According to the bank representative, Planet Fitness simply isn't doing something right, as no charges are reaching my bank account. Still, I have the membership fees plus extra penalties being charged to my credit card (a separate account) every month.
I called Planet Fitness with this information. They could not explain the ongoing billing error (the person I spoke with did not seem very interested in figuring it out) and they refused to refund any more fees. They were, however, very happy to give me information on how to cancel my account with Planet Fitness. This seems like a very poor way to treat customers. I'm more than willing to pay my membership fees, but they seem more interested in making a quick buck with the additional penalties than in keeping a long term customer.

When I joined Planet Fitness, I was told that there was a 12-month commitment, but if at any time I needed to cancel my membership, I could freeze it with no consequences and cancel it after my one year commitment was up. I just moved away and there is no PF near me, so I called to freeze it. The woman on the phone was extremely rude to me and after asking why I wanted to freeze it, she said that they only froze accounts for military or medical reasons. I will be following up on this, but from the sounds of these reviews, it won't be an easy process.

I joined PF in March 2012 so that I could get start changing my lifestyle and exercising to become more fit and healthy. Well, the first few months were great and the staff was nice, but then things started to change. First it started with the rules of no cellphones on the floor and only the lobby. Unfortunately, this is one of the rules that don't apply to everyone, seeing that almost everyday and/or night when you went to work out, there would be people texting on their phones and holding up the use of the equipment. When it was brought to the management's attention, they just blew it off. Next came the ‘No children under 13 could not work out in the gym or even be in the facility’.
Unfortunately, this didn't apply to everyone as well, seeing that there were several occasions where there were children way under the age of 13 that were not only in the facility, but also using the equipment (treadmill, stepper, jump rope, weights, etc.) and again when it was brought to the management's attention, the young, so-called highly trained manager said, "Well it's fine with me as long as they don't hurt themselves and their parents are here." Wow! Now the final straw was when they hired this overly steroid-filled guy named George. He was the king of all jerks. He was very rude to certain types of people (non-white) and very disrespectful. He had no good customer service, unless you're "white" and totally disregarded you if you had a question or needed help. I came in one evening to work out and steroid vain popping George was there. He asked more for my member number only after he got finished talking to his buddy.
I then proceeded to give it to him and immediately he blasted out very loudly and rudely that my payment for the month had not gone through and I needed to take care of it immediately or I would lose my membership and could not come back while smirking. I obviously didn't know about it and when I tried to inform him, he then proceeded to overtalk me and said, "Listen, no need to explain anything to me. You just need to pay your bill ASAP!" And unfortunately when it was reported to the management of how rude he was, they once again just blew it off. Planet Fitness in Charleston on Sam Rittenburg just lost 2 more members, but I'm pretty sure they could care less. They will just blow it off anyway.

Planet Fitness has been fraudulently billing me for several years on a credit card that I didn't use very much, so I didn't notice the extra charges. I talked to Capitol One and they suggested that I cancel the credit card and that way I could absolutely stop the billing. I am a chronic pain patient who has had neck/disk fusion surgery and I still see a pain management specialist for monthly pain medication and Epidural Steroid Injections about 3-4 times a year. There is no way my doctor would allow me to even join one of these kinds of clubs because of the imminent danger of re-hurting myself.
Planet Fitness then opened a claim with a company called PeopleClaim, who claims they are only to act as a go between and try to help both of the complainants to work this out in a forum. Planet Fitness also made a refund suggestion of $1,006.93 to resolve the issue. After that, Planet Fitness has stopped responding to the claim they themselves opened. I decided to take them up on their refund off of $1,006.93 and just allow us to both go our separate ways and be done with this issue. PeopleClaim said they are not responding. My claim number is **. Would you please respond to this email and try to help me get the minimal refund? Thank you.

Recently, I got my membership cancelled for bandanna wearing. Tween-ish manager advised of exception to rules as several members were wearing other headgear than a baseball cap, duh! I asked if I could have exception as at other clubs. I was advised that if I rolled the bandanna like a headband, I'd be good. I asked her mobile, how I could be approved the exception to policy and she seemed unclear. She was asked to contact a manager to inquire but minutes later advised that the district manager cancelled my lifestyle, I mean membership! This totally floored me as no explanation was given. To boot, the corporate office didn't give one, either. I was told to find a new gym as if I attacked someone. There goes customer service.
Find another gym. I'm in need of a lawyer, me, big, buff, black man needs to be put in his place. I guess that's clarity, complain, and get the hell out of my gym. Anyone want to join suit, let me know. Just for the record, I'm 50 and have been working out since 14 years old and never felt so alienated, disrespected, isolated, singled out and discriminated against.

I recently was offered a job in Vermont. I have been a member of Planet Fitness for a while and have persuaded a lot of my friends to join as well. Once I moved to Vermont, I looked for a Planet Fitness nearby to workout. However, there are no Planet Fitness in this area. I then received a a text message from Planet Fitness stating that my account was overdue. I called the gym and asked them what happened. I later found out that my card was cancelled by Bank of America due to a fraud and the bank was sending me a new card on the mail. With that being said, I called Planet Fitness, informed them of the occurrence and told them that I would like to cancel my account due to the fact that there were no Planet Fitness nearby.
I was told by the person who picked up the phone that I would have to personally cancel it because they do not do cancellations over the phone. I told her I could not go back to CT as I have been working a full-time job in Vermont, but that when I went back home to visit it, that I would cancel the account as long as I was no longer being charged. The person on the phone said that would not be a problem. I received another text message from them telling me that I have a balance due. Confused about the text, I called Planet Fitness. The person who picked up told me that I have to pay for the past 80 days although I was previously informed that was not the case. I finished the conversation extremely upset because I was told I would not have to worry about any additional costs due to the fact that I had no means of driving to CT yet.
I was under the impression that my account was on hold and that there would be no additional costs. I refused to pay for something that I was told I wouldn't have to. I have not attended that gym in 80 days and was told that I would not have to pay any additional costs. I'm extremely disappointed with Planet Fitness's customer service. As I was hanging up, I told the person on the phone that I shouldn't have to pay for something I was told I wouldn't have to, that I was very disappointed with them as a customer, that they lost a valued customer as well as many of my friends that currently attend that gym. The lady on the other side of the phone said, "Oh great."

I was consistently singled out and was also texted profanity from my so-called manager, ** of the Seekonk gym! I have multiple texts that are disrespectful and considered to be harassing. I will be contacting my lawyer and moving forward. I have all evidence on my cellphone, all pictures of other employees using the internet and doing clean and press in the gym. Now, can you explain why I would be singled out for doing those things? I think that's favoritism and bad management not to mention when I was fired, it was in front of the whole gym. This is bad management. I felt so insecure and depressed. She defamed me in front of the whole gym. Things like this can't go over.

Planet Fitness has a headgear dress-code that is mostly directed to and works solely against a certain group of people: ethnic people. I am a natural-haired black woman and my hair frizzes up huge with sweat, in which I usually wear my shpitzel in order to tame it during this activity. I was asked to leave today after being a member for four years because I refused to remove it. Supposedly, head scarfs and wraps are in the category of possible gang-related bandannas. I was told this policy gears more towards the aspect of intimidation. So while buff built guys can work out in fitted caps and look cool (oh, and non-intimidating), I have to simply look crazy because my stylish head wrap is too intimidating.
I believe if all cultures wore these particular head-gears (wraps, scarfs, and do-rags), this wouldn't be an issue. But since do-rags are, undoubtedly, non-gang-related, but more exclusively black-related, and head-wraps, scarfs, kufis, Patkas, shpitzels, and so on are more catered to the ethnic crowd, this isn’t recognized as an innocent head piece or even appreciated, for that matter. PF has a high number of ethnic members that helps keep their business in business. So if they wish to stay in business, at least with a good name, that preposterous discriminating rule needs to be exempt from or negotiated within their dress code policy.

Keep your documentation! I've had to resort to disputing charges from this gym with my credit card company. Seven months after I quit, I'm still dealing with this. They continued to bill me after the first dispute from the credit card company, and refused to accept the second, despite the first resolving in my favor. I cancelled services with them via certified mail (I first attempted to cancel in person, which their stated policy allows, but was refused by the employee at the desk, who told me I would have to mail the letter). When they still billed me the next month, I visited the store in person, despite no longer living in the area, as they refuse to discuss any billing matter whatsoever over the phone.
When I got the manager, he first denied three times that I had sent the letter early enough to have stopped billing on the most recent cycle, before finally admitting that I had, in fact, sent it within the accepted timeframe. He then provided me with a copy of their internal document, showing receipt of my letter, and the cancellation date for my service. He claimed the system showed I was no longer under automated bill payment, and requested my credit card, to refund me the most recent month's charge, and gave me a receipt for the refund. The refund never posted. I continued to be billed, and have since been dealing with the credit card company instead.
The gym's handling of this matter has been incompetent at the least, if not malicious, and judging from the complaints I've seen on the web, I'm guessing the latter. Avoid them!

I have had several encounters with the employees of Planet Fitness. I have been a member for almost a year. Although I have a membership at the YMCA as well as LA Fitness, I chose to get a membership there because of its proximity and machine availability. The first day I opened my membership, I walked in with my workout gear on and head scarf (being an African American woman, in order to tame our hair texture, many of us choose to wrap our heads with a scarf). After signing the check, I was eager to begin my workout. I asked the associate if it was okay for me to begin. He nodded yes and I jumped on the treadmill and started my run.
Six minutes into my workout, I was abruptly and rudely interrupted and scolded for wearing a scarf. They told me I would have to leave and that I could not continue my workout, but that I could purchase one of their hats if I wanted to stay. I pleaded with the manager that it was my first day and that if I can just workout today, I won't wear it again. He refused (it was not a dirty scarf. Actually, it was a pretty floral scarf). I threatened to cancel my membership and the manager replied, okay then. Instead of me going to cancel the membership, I continued working out there always being scared that I'm going to step outside their rules and get embarrassed.
One day, my water bottle was too big and then today was the final straw. The gym does not have the workout bands so I brought in my own. I had been bringing it in for awhile and today, once again in the middle of my workout, I was reprimanded for bringing in outside equipment. I understand policies and procedures, but seeing as I'm the only African American in the gym, I feel that they singled me out and handled the situation in a very unprofessional manner.

I have been with Planet Fitness for over a year, and recently they renewed my contract and yearly membership fee without asking, or advising of any changes. I do not tan, but do like to use the red light room and the reason I pay for the black card membership. Normally when I come in, there is someone scheduled so I book the next time slot available and come back. There has never been a problem and I have never failed to return. Yesterday, I came in at 6:10 pm and the red light room was booked until 7pm. I signed up and went across the hall to the restaurant to eat versus sitting for 50 minutes. I came back and some staff person told me I am not "allowed" to leave when I sign up. I said that doesn’t make sense and that is not in my contract. Plus I am not a child and telling me I have to sit for almost an hour waiting is nonsense.
I advised if they were having trouble with customers booking the room and not returning, then they needed to address those people specifically and not inconvenient the rest of us. His only and nasty response was "Well, then you can't tan." What?! First of all I do not tan, I use the red light room. Second, I pay for my membership that includes use of the red light room and my contract does not state I have to sit and wait my turn and cannot leave. I am pissed. I emailed the company and they have failed to respond. The manager at Planet Fitness has failed to contact me even though I made it clear I wanted to hear from ** at Charleston Planet Fitness on Sam Rittenburg Blvd.

I have not been going to the gym for medical reasons. I received a call on my answering machine last week. Apparently my debit card was declined because I received a new one. I called and spoke to Ryan at the Cherry Hill NJ location. He told me that I owed $42.80 for 2 months, a fee of $10.70 and and extra $10.70/month because my card was declined. I told him that was unfair since I did not know this was happening until last week. I asked him to cancel my membership and he told me I had to do it in person. I immediately went in and he told me that I owed $62.70 because today was the day they bill my account for next month. I wound up paying $52.10 so that I can cancel my membership. Ryan claimed to be the manager but I find that hard to believe. Planet Fitness should have contacted me earlier (by at least 1 month) if they had a problem with my debit card. I also should not have been charged for next month since I cancelled it today. There are hundreds of complaints against them online for similar problems. Shouldn't something be done about this?

So I told him not to talk to me like that and he need to relax. He then called the supervisor at the time named Andrew. When he approached me, he rudely spoke to me and asked me for my member number. I did not want to give it to him because his tone of voice was not professional and believed what the other staff (Moses) told him. When everything came down, he called the police and canceled my membership.
I spoke to my wife about the issue and then she went by the gym and spoke to the supervisor (Andrew). My wife recognized the face of the staff that was rude to me because she faced a similar interaction with that same staff (Moses). Therefore, as my wife explained everything to the supervisor, Andrew, he made another manager call my wife. But my wife could not speak to John at the time because she was at work. I am very angry because they accused me of something that I did not do. Also, the manager took the employee's side without examining the overall issue. What makes me more upset is that my wife had a prior issue with that same employee and one of the supervisor knew that this specific employee had complaint before and they fail to discipline his behavior. Well one of the workers took it upon herself to go tell the manager, whose name is David, that my cousin was training me in the gym and she didn't think she had a membership card, and that she had seen her come in there more than once a day. The manager then began to follow us around the gym watching and seeing what we were doing. After about ten minutes, he came over and first told us that we could not use one of the machines we were using and began to tell my cousin that she could not do any training in the gym, that she comes in there too much.
Well, myself and my cousin both are black card members. There were other people whom we know, they were in the gym doing a training session and was not a Planet Fitness worker and nothing was said to them. Now I wanted to know, was there a problem with us working out together and her showing me the right way to do an exercise? Also, how many times can we come in the gym in a day because we, along with all our other relatives, which there is several of us joined at one time? We are willing to cancel our membership if there was something wrong with what we did because we felt like we were treated very wrong. Some of the other members noticed it too and had even made the comment "why was he following you guys?"

I brought this card into the gym. I explained that I still have a balance of $47.70 that is owed to the Milford, CT Planet Fitness. She said that is fine and joined me up. I paid for the deposit and I have paid for every month since then. I used the gym for the first time today, 3/29/2012. I went in tanned and when I came out, the manager named Caesar was extremely rude to me, embarrassed me in front of workers and customers, was very cocky and arrogant and I feel he has no business in customer relations.
He told me that I am not allowed to use their gym anymore and he is going to cancel my membership because I owe a balance to Milford's gym. I explained to him that, "When I joined up with his gym that I brought in the promotional card and you signed me up knowing I had this old balance. And you took my money and now months later, you decide to cancel me." Also he basically called me a liar and said that they never ran this promotion in December yet I have another card sitting right here in front of me.
This was very terrible how I was treated and I feel I was treated very unfairly. I've been a member of your gym for the past seven years I have barely used your gym. I think I used the equipment maybe twice at the most. I basically use the tanning and I rarely do that so I feel I have paid plenty of money to your facility to be treated this way. I am so not pleased with this manager's behavior. He had a look in his eyes like he was in attack mode. Thank you for your time with this matter.

My son and his friend have been going to the gym 6-7 times a week for 2-3 hours a day for over a year. Last week, after entering the gym, they changed into their workout clothes; and when they came out of the locker room, they were told their memberships were cancelled. They asked why, and they were told because they were laughing. When they said that was ridiculous and thought they were kidding with them. However, they were refused entry into the gym and asked for more information but were denied.
When he came home and told me, I couldn't believe it. I sent an e-mail to the corporate office, asking for some information. Later, they answered, saying they wouldn't discuss it with me because my son was over 18. I then asked if someone could be thrown out for laughing. They answered by saying my son could receive a phone call if he wanted. So then I asked for a phone number and a contact name, but they wouldn't provide one.
I then posted a question on their Facebook page: "Is it true you can be thrown out for laughing?" I was told I could write a letter to the corporate office, which I said I did already but didn't get any answers. So I wrote another question on their Facebook page: "Is it true you only want members who pay but don't actually come to the gym?"
The next response I received was my Facebook privileges being revoked because I broke their Facebook rules (even though I read the rules and can't figure out which one I broke) and my membership being cancelled because of my behavior though they waived the $58.00 cancellation fee for me. I then went to the gym that night to speak with the manager, but she refused to meet with me. I spoke with the girl who was responsible for not allowing my son in, but she refused to give me any information. She informed me that my membership was cancelled by the corporate office for breaking Facebook rules. I wanted to know which one and asked her to tell me which one, but she couldn't. I asked her to call and find out, and she went and made a call.
About 5 minutes later, she got off the phone and proceeded to print out the Facebook rules. I told her I am familiar with those rules but that I don't know which one I broke. She couldn't tell me. I then asked to set up a meeting with her manager, but she refused. I then said if she wouldn't set up a meeting I was going to work out and give her time to set up a meeting.
I then went over to the machines and started my workout. About 15 minutes later, I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned to see two policemen standing there. One of them said for me to come with them, and I asked what for. They responded I didn't have a membership. I told them I did and showed them my card. They then said I didn't pay for it, but I assured them it was paid up. They made me go over to the desk where the girl told them my membership was cancelled because I broke their Facebook rules. I was then asked for identification, and the police ran my license. I was escorted out of the building.
I would like my membership reinstated along with my son's and his friend's and compensation for them having me escorted out of the building.
