I have been a member since you opened your club on Marrows road in Newark, Del. You have a manager that isn't doing his job. His name is Charles **. I was on a treadmill and on my left he was busy standing on another treadmill busy talking to a girl. There was a girl on my right and she was going quite fast when she fell and she flow off the treadmill on her face. I jumped off to help her but he only turned around and looked and just kept talking to the girl. He never even checked if she was okay. He isn't very pleasant. I always asked Richard for help. He should be the manager.

At least in the Helena, MT, location, the same ONE streaming station plays the worst of the worst pop music which sounds like it's all electronic and hard to tell if there are even real human voices singing! I'm quitting PF if this music problem doesn't change and as of now, I exercise outside whenever I can, but hard to do in 0 degree winter weather!
THE MUSIC IS TERRIBLE!!! EXTREMELY DEMOTIVATING, TAKES AWAY FROM MY WORKOUT EXPERIENCE AND IT'S STERILE, COLD, AND DEPRESSING... I feel WORSE from the music ALONE at end of workout. Of course I bring my own music, but my earbuds often can't drown it out because it's jacked up way too loud most of the time. Also difficult to wear those anyway when lifting weights. When I've talked about the music issue, the typical response is that " corporate makes that decision" implying that it's the way they want it and it won't ever change.
They dont care about very real and good customer suggestions about this one thing. Vary the music! I'm a paying customer and should have the right to not have the poppy, same sounding crap from only ONE streaming station forced down our throats. The unfortunate employees dont have a say either in this. It's a CORPORATE issue. If PF Corporates care about their people they would at least compromise on this instead of going on this "cookie cutter" "one size fits all mentality" regarding music played and refusing any change to it. Not all of us are like sheep liking the same one thing when it comes to what we put in our ears!

Planet Fitness is has unprofessional, young, rude, obnoxious staff at their locations. Staff are more concerned about how they look than customer service. They offer no assistance. The trainer only is there M-F, not allowing those who work real jobs to sign up for training on weekends. Furthermore, they require you to take multiple classes to learn equipment rather than training one to one like they used to. Newburgh, NY has an awful parking lot, overcrowded and not safe.

My subscription ended last February sometime and without notice they auto renewed the subscription for month to month, I changed bank cards too and they somehow continues to take money from my bank leaving me negative in the bank most times. When you call the help center they are not much help at all and the managers in the centers are condescending jerks and are rude. I just want them to stop taking money from me. Since February they've been taking money and I have not authorized it. What to do? I do not recommend Planet Fitness to ANYONE!!!

I canceled my Planet Fitness membership over a year ago and they STILL continued to pull money from my account without my knowledge until I took a close look at my bank statements. Do not join PF, join a local gym. These corporate gyms are money hungry and it is a pain to cancel your membership. You have to either go in to the gym itself or send a letter in the mail detailing why you want to cancel. I thought the charges were fraudulent because I had canceled my membership, but lo and behold they're still taking money from me even though I haven't set foot in any PF in well over a year. Stay away from Planet Fitness!

Wanted to join. Couldn't pay with a credit card, bank account access only. Not too safe from my viewpoint. When I asked, I was shown the only payment methods were checking account or savings access. Now that I have read some of the horror stories, I do believe them. Glad I never got to sign any contract with them.

The gym was nice. Everything usually clean. It gets a one star rating for the following: 1) You have to physically go in to cancel (just annoying); 2) Apparently, if you owe a balance for a previous month (not sure how since it’s autodrafted 9 months after that), you aren’t allowed to cancel until it’s paid; 3) They refused to use the amount they literally just took out of my account (when I haven’t used the gym in almost a year) and apply it to the balance; 4) Dude working the desk tried to explain it as paying a car note and not driving the car. I’m just saying this is a service, not a car.

When you sign up, they give you a schedule of times to learn about the machines, stretch routines, etc. I signed up online for a 12:30 class to learn the 30 minute circuit. I showed up at 12:25 and was told to stand in the area for classes. Stood there and waited until 12:40 and no one showed up or bothered to say if there even was a class. Across the gym I could see the class before me going on and I assumed the guy over there running it was also who would be running mine. I could see him looking over to see if anyone was over in the waiting area and checking his watch a couple of times. He didn't bother to stop that class or at least to say he's running late.
The employee that told me to wait was within 20 feet of me and never even said a word even after I went to the locker room and got my jacket and walked right passed him and out the door. Went back within 30 minutes and cancelled my contract. They may show classes scheduled but I don't think they really hope people to show up for them. Planet Fitness, you may have got my money, but now you've got my negative review that I get to tell everyone and not just here. I guess with $10 month, you get $10 service.

I was a member with Planet Fitness years ago when they came into Michigan. I loved the place until they tried making my mother in law take her scarf off because of a policy provision. She's completely bald due to a condition in her brain. I was very upset after trying to explain to the owner. I joined this year because I have to manage my diabetes. I canceled my membership again because I was harassed about my weight conditioning jacket that I have to use in order to work out on my legs for diabetic purposes. I politely canceled the membership only to see that the representative decided to answer my reason for canceling (unsatisfying equipment). I have several reasons why I don't like Planet Fitness but that's not one of them. I don't recommend Planet Fitness as a place.

I have been a member Planet Fitness for over a year. Back in March of this year my credit card info was stolen. So every place that had my credit card on automatic payment I had to update. When it came to Planet Fitness I decide just to cancel the account because I had been there in a while. Can’t remember who I talked to because it now October.
Around the same time I dropped my phone and broke it. Bad luck I know. I got a cheap phone with a different number until this month October when I could afford to get a new phone. Today I get a text message saying I’m pass due on my bill. I call that number on the text message I explained my situation to the person answering the call and the manager. They said they are only the billing department all they can really do is take payments and updated forms of payment on the account. To try calling the store.
So I call my local store and Brittany answers the phone. I explained to her my credit card info got stolen and I canceled my account back in March and I’m confused with this whole situation. She states I never canceled my account and owe over $150. I explain my situation again and she states “I’m not trying to argue with you. There’s nothing I can do.” So I asked to speak to her manager she explains she’s the highest manager there’s no one else I can talk to. I think to myself really the highest up manager is answering phone calls? But didn’t say that. So I ask what ways did they try to get ahold of me other than my phone?
She said I think email. I search my email from planet fitness only one all of 2018 from PT is about a free hydromassage back in February. So I said with my phone not working I would think with you saying I’m over 6 months behind someone would email me and maybe even regular post office mail me. She said I was emailed but I clearly wasn’t. She again she the thing about arguing and there’s nothing she can do. I’m so frustrating with this situation. It has still not been resolved yet but I guess I’m going to have to pay it. Even though if I knew I was a member all that time I would have using my account.
All in all. The customer service is all handled at the store level. Therefore talking to a manager is just the person that answers the phone. So if that person doesn’t want to help you there’s nothing more you can do. First time this situation happened to me but enough to give PT customer service 1-star review. Stay away. Get everything in writing especially if and when you try to end the account.

We were lied to when we signed up for the membership. My husband signed up as a Black Card Member and I could go as his guest. We were told that both of us could use the Massage Chairs. Then after signing up, I was told that as a guest, I was not allowed to use the massage chairs. We feel that it was a bait and switch by the company. We are only a couple of weeks into the membership and already we want to quit. Sure...I could sign up for the black card as well, however now it is the principal of the matter. I am not going to give a company that lied to us, more money...
They should have been honest up-front. Because of lying, anytime anyone asks up how we like Planet Fitness, we say we do not recommend them. (They also don't have a full range of gym equipment - they are missing machines for certain workouts). Now, my husband doesn't want to use the chairs (he has a bad back and that was the main reason for going with Planet Fitness) so now I have to take my showers and get ready at the gym instead of before going to the gym so that forces him to use the chair. (I don't even like using public bathrooms or the dressing room at a department store.) We will definitely be looking for a different gym when our membership is up or will just look into buying a bench, a few weights and a TRX strap and just play tennis or something for cardio. We're not bodybuilders so we don't really need the use of a gym and all of the heavy weights and you can walk around the block instead of on a treadmill.

The website was no help, they make it painfully hard to reach anyone via email or phone. It took about 3 minutes to sign up and take my payment online and has now taken over 5 months to terminate and still no apology. The first person to reached said they couldn’t help me, only confirmed I was still listed as active and asked what proof I could offer. I’ve moved so many times and cancelled many gym memberships and have NEVER had to deal with this. She said they would have someone contact me shortly... still waiting to hear from anyone... let alone a refund or apology.
Updated on 10/17/2018: I wrote here after realizing Planet Fitness had been wrongfully billing me for 5 months after my most recent military move. I cannot get anyone to stop billing me, apologize, or even offer any help whatsoever. I was just billed for a 6th month since my move over a week since my last complaint. Have not used membership (now across the country) in over 7 months. They keep saying it is the local franchise’s problem, and they will reach out to have them call me. Multiple efforts have now been made. They refuse to give me contact info, or do anything. What good is a corporate office if they have no power. They are unapologetic and unhelpful. I called again today because my account was charged the yearly fee for my spouse and me. I explained that I have been trying to cancel my membership for the last 3 weeks. I also stated that the yearly fees needed to be refunded since I have been trying to cancel. I was told that there no notes in my account showing that I had called.
Of course there wouldn't be notes if the systems were down all the time. He explained that their systems had indeed not been down in that time frame. He also said that since there were no notes on my account, the yearly fee would not be refunded since there was no error on their part. No error??? Your employee had been lying to me about the systems being down and yet there is no error on your part. I opened up a black card membership on 07/26/18. At the time I paid 15.91 at a prorated rate for a 21.99 black card membership. I was charge on my debit card and asked to provide an account for annual fees and reoccurring payments. All of which I provided. On 09/13/18 I logged into my account and manually paid my bill of 21.99. I was emailed a receipt. All was well until 09/15 when I checked my checking account balance and discovered that I was charged 54.00 by Planet Fitness. No receipt was ever emailed to me!! I immediately called my bank to dispute the charge! My claim was created.
While I waited to be credited back, Planet Fitness proceeded to take another 21.99 out of my account on 09/17/18. I called my bank again and disputed that charge as well because at this point I had already asked my bank to block them from accessing my account. Another claim was created and the same day, I was credited back the 54.00. As I waited for my bank to credit back the 21.99, on 09/20/18, Planet Fitness took 54.00 out of the account I used to first sign up for my membership. According to my bank they used my debit card number to process the payment! The only way to block them from doing so AGAIN was to change my card number!
This left me with no access to my own account! Due to my work schedule of 9am-7pm, I was unable to pick up a card from the bank branch! I had to opt to have my card expedited, yet here it is 09/21/28 and I’ve been 2 days without my bank card!! The bank rep stated the 21.99 would be credit back to my account on 09/24/18!!!
What’s worse? The fact that the second 54.00 is still pending in my checking account activity! I’ll have to wait until 09/24/18 to dispute a charge from 09/20/18! So I’m now short 75.99 for what was supposed to be a 21.99 membership! I am beyond disgusted at this point!! Come to find out that this charge is from an annual fee of 39.00 plus a 15.00 late fee for a 21.99 membership I signed up to on 07/26/18. Today is 09/20/18. I haven’t even been a membership for 2 months yet and I’m already being charged an annual fee? I’ll be buying out my contract! This has been nothing but a mistake! The manager finally shows up and flat out refused to give me a dime back. NEVER AGAIN- Will I use this place. And I will be disputing the con artists charge to my account. BAD KARMA- is not good business - be well aware if you sign up here. They just want your money and have not care how they get it.

I just relocated back to CT from NYC. My girlfriend is a member and told me they have a deal to pay upfront for the year. I go in Aug 31, 2018. I was told it expired yesterday Aug 30, 2018. (1) day within the month. I ask, "Can you ask the manager will they honor it." They say sure (made a call supposedly). I was told no, "Okay well how much will it be to pay the "new" membership price up-front cash?" Note: I was ready to join. "I am sorry we will not do that?" I guess they do not want "new" customers who just do not want to give out checking and or credit card information. In God we trust many still pay cash, not crypto.

I signed with Planet Fitness in 2016. I went to the fitness club only 2, maybe 3 times because I wanted to start a health regime that would help me. Unfortunately for me, I have arthritis in my body and I kept putting off my exercise plan. I also had the displeasure of not closing my account with Planet Fitness right away. The club owners was still taking amounts from bank even though I couldn't go to gym--granted-that was my fault-I admit that! But this year, I went to Planet Fitness location three times that I signed with to close account and it was always an excuse as to why this couldn't be done!
Either the manager wasn't there, or the system was down! I went yesterday again to close account, and people at front desk said to me that because I owe a back payments, my account can't be closed! NOW it seems I owe BACK payments when I have bank statements to PROVE they took money from my bank account AND overcharged in some instances! This "fitness" place needs to stop ripping people off! They need to change their policies or be shut down.
Whether a person makes decision to go to the gym or not is excluded-if gym continues being paid & individuals want to close accounts with them, that should not be an issue! Planet Fitness should NOT be doing tactics to try and get more money from clients. I will be seeing a lawyer about this as well, because I checked with other clients and find out Planet Fitness have done the same terrible tactics against them as well. I would greatly appreciate an extensive look into this matter.

I wanted to find out how much it cost to be a member for one year. I went to the Planet Fitness website and found that their explanations of costs were unclear, and I suspected that this was because they wanted to appear cheaper than they actually are, so that you will sign up and only find out later that it was more expensive than you had thought.
So I called the local Planet Fitness and spoke to someone there. I had to ask the person about four times before I could finally get a clear answer about the total price for one year. His initial answers kept not resolving the ambiguity about what fees were included in what. When I finally got him to tell me the total fee for the year, I saw that, yes, I had been correct, that the fee was higher than I had thought based on the website description.
Even then, I thought perhaps the unclarity on their part might be incompetence rather than an intention to mislead. But then I read the dozens of comments here about the shady shenanigans PF plays on customers about fees, money, overcharging, etc. So my attitude at this point is that PF is a dishonest shady organization and should be shunned. It's stupid, too, because you can succeed in business better if you are honest.

I signed up for Planet Fitness about 2 or 3 years ago, and I only ever went a couple times, and decided that it was about time that I cancel my membership. After going into the Gym in person, they told me that I would need a letter since that is their process. I typed a letter requesting to cancel and they didn't even acknowledge it or say they received it.
I kept getting withdrawals from my bank account, and in June I got charged around $35 for their annual whatever. So I called Planet Fitness explained the situation, and told me they couldn't refund it so go to the bank, I go to the bank to do a chargeback, and stop payment so that it's off the account and I closed the account same day.
A couple days later I got a call from Planet Fitness' billing/customer service team asking if there was an issue with the account, they said thanks for letting them know and that it wasn't an issue and they understood the confusion and said they would make a notation about no further billing. Fast forwarding again to August 13th, about two months after this happened, they sent me an email saying they were going to pursue debt collections. I've done my part and have spoken to multiple people from the gym and they have repeatedly refused to cancel my membership, and they just recently made it inactive just now. But are still saying I owe them even they repeatedly refused to close an account.

I joined the gym online, then proceeded to the gym for the walkthrough, (was very excited)! When I arrived at the Westminster MD gym, the girl and guy at desk only wanted to scan my membership card which I didn’t have yet. The girl sighed really hard when I told her I just joined online. She rudely told me that my daughter couldn’t be on the premises.
She is 12. It was not necessary for her to be mean. Then they just stood there looking at me asking me to leave! Not even a friendly greeting or, "I’m so sorry but your child has to leave," and they refused to give me a tour. I walked out the door but thought, if they are not this nice do I really want to come here? I turned around and told them I decided I didn’t want to be a member, the girl nastily stated I would have to pay $59. I said for what, I just joined less than a hour and half ago online. Finally a guy jumped in and canceled my membership for free. They were not welcoming nor nice at all! Would not recommend this place to anyone!

Signed up for a membership, I have had a membership with PF in the past and was very straightforward. In June I signed a new Black Card contract for $21.99 per month. I was billed on the 17th of the month and then received a bill for $39. I called PF and was told this was an annual fee which is charged to lock the monthly rate for life and to pay the payment processing company. I was also informed this was part of my contract and this fee is billed two months after the contract is signed. Shame on me for not reading this in the contract, but furthermore, shame on PF for this type of billing behavior. Be forewarned before signing this contract. It is unfortunate PF management believes this is good for business.

When I joined Planet Fitness last year I was attracted by the low cost and "judgement free" theme. My experience has been pretty negative. I've gone primarily to the ones in Stratham, NH and Amesbury, Mass. Stratham is extremely overcrowded, particularly in the winter. Amesbury is less crowded but very dated and staffed with young kids who are unprofessional and rude. I find that some people who go to this gym take fitness seriously, but many do not. You'll see people lighting up cigarettes in the parking lot, coming in off the street to use the bathroom, and the staff is horribly unprofessional.
If you live on the NH Seacoast and don't mind crowds, the one in Stratham is the nicest. The one in Amesbury is pretty creepy and dirty. I'd avoid it if you want a serious workout with a fitness-oriented crowd. I switched back to my old gym Vanguard Key Club, which is only slightly more money and worth every extra penny for the nicer atmosphere and crowd of people.

I had really unpleasant experience today at PF South Burlington VT location. Apparently one of the staff members, Ericka, told manager how I went behind front desk and started hydromassage bed by myself while she was away doing errands (few weeks ago). So manager pulled me on a side today soon as I got to the gym and with very mean attitude told me 'If you do that again, I will cancel your membership.' I was blindsided, didn't even had a chance to think of what happened. I remember saying 'I would never go behind front desk and do such thing.' I was very shocked with manager's attitude.
Last thing I need to hear after long working day is someone blame me for something I didn't do. I challenge manager/district manager/owner of this franchise to check camera footage and find out who is telling truth, me or Ericka, staff member. Why would Ericka do such thing? I assume because I asked her nicely to refill paper towel dispenser twice in last couple weeks and maybe she didn't feel like doing it. If so, I apologize for bringing that up, I will never ever mention something like that again.
I thought message: 'At Planet Fitness, we're here to provide a unique environment in which anyone – and we mean anyone – can be comfortable...' is true. What I experienced today from manager (and obviously Ericka) is far from that! I am member of this gym for a long time and no one ever threaten me before or made me feel unwanted. What happened with 'Thumb up' policy PF has?!? This goes beyond words!
Message to the owner of this franchise - if you find me on cameras behind front desk, I am offering to pay fine in the amount equal to annual Black Card membership (which I have), as an apology for what I did! If you find out I've been accused for something I didn't do, I am asking for manager to resign from her position, become regular staff and have assistant manager take over her managing duties. Cause manager should NEVER accuse member without having proof 100% - even then, I am still MEMBER, there HAS to be way to solve things peacefully. At the end, without us, members, this gym wouldn't exist! If manager simply asked me if I did it or not, instead of threatening me with canceling membership, I might had chance explain her that hydromassage bed was 'paused' when I got there, all I did is hit 'play' button.

I have repeatedly called the gym and the first time I spoke with a manager, she stated that she was sorry for what has happened and that she was putting in for a full refund. To no avail, it has been over 2 months and still nothing. Every time I call the home gym I get the run around and they tell me that the manager is not available and that she would call me back. I have never received a call back.
Today I emailed the area manager and she stated that I was never told that I would get a refund, which I was told several times that the refund request was out in. Planet Fitness is a franchise and it is privately owned. So when you call the customer service phone number they automatically switch you to the home club. The home club that is in question is in Bensonhurst Brooklyn, on 86th st and 20th ave. If you want to lift hard and improve and get strong, this is not the gym for you. The lunk alarm is real, and they do not care about judgment free zones for normal men and women who want to be stronger and feel safe while working out. They make sure the insecure, nonprogressing members feel "safe" while sitting on the same smith rack for 2 hours on their phone.
The last straw for me was when planet fitness banned a woman for not being comfortable with a man changing in the locker room with her. She felt unsafe. They cater to the relaxed gym goer but everyone joins, no bench presses and only 3-4 smith presses so they are always in use with a wait in line, people sitting on this equipment texting and playing on their phones, nobody says anything at all. 1 preacher board always in use, 2 cable machines always in use...
I couldn't even imagine this gym during any kind of peak time. If you want to cycle, spin, tread there are plenty of those available but for a good work out there are better gyms that don't oversell memberships. I've been waiting for a nearby to my home location to open to see if it would be any better and it's worse... went in Saturday AM (10:00ish) and there was a line out the door to scan in and the front desk area was packed with people coming in. I printed off their policy which by the way states that as long as you request a refund within 3 business days of signing their contract, and bring in or mail in a handwritten letter stating that you want out of the contract that you are entitled to a full refund of all money paid.
So I did just that, I printed off the policy that I just signed a day ago, and brought in my hand written letter asking to be unbound from the contract, and made a copy of that as well.
Now, I happened to like the gentleman who worked with me when I first came into the building. He was nice, but kept trying to make excuses as to why that policy didn’t cover me. I said, again, exactly word for word what THEIR own policy stated and he eventually was like okay well that’s for a manager to decide.
So I said, no problem I’ll wait for him.
Now this guy was super nice and respectful and did give me a full refund which consisted of my start up fee + the first and second months payments. I had no issues with him. Exceptional management skills.
However only giving 3 stars as I find it distressing that the staff seem to know nothing about their own policy and or are trained to not disclose the small print which clearly indicates that as long as you come back in a timely manner, that you are in fact able to be fully rembursed. He was seriously trying to hassle me and tell me no no no until finally he couldn’t argue with what the policy said and told me to wait for a manager.
I appreciate the manager of this specific branch located on pleasant valley rd in Winchester Virginia for being so considerate and understanding. Now if only I could say the same about the employees under him.
Still, I don’t suggest PF to anyone. As I am positive if I would not have pushed this issue, and or provided correct documentation, and had given them access to my checking account instead of paying with cash....that I would have not only never been given my money back, but likely robbed of more.
Stay far, far away.

I just want to start by saying that I was completely naive when it came down to the actual decision to come to Planet Fitness. By far the most immoral company I have ever dealt with. Just this morning I went in, was curious to check it out, seduced by the promise of low monthly fees and quickly figuring out why on my “tour”. Anyway, I didn’t care about the lack of weights. I was just there to run on the treadmill anyways. So, after my “tour” with caution I agreed to the $10 membership and paid all of my fees upfront - in cash because I did not have my bank info on me (luckily) or I’m sure I’d be out of a lot more.
I paid the $40 upfront just THIS MORNING, and came home and did the thing I should have done before even going there, read these reviews... of people being ripped off and overcharged and double charged and continuous nonstop charges after membership cancelation. So, with bearing that in mind, I got in my car, a few hours after just paying the start up costs PLUS a month in advance for not having my bank information on me at the time, I went back to Planet Fitness, spoke to the manager and explained it just wasn’t what I wanted and cancelled my membership.
I later asked about a refund of my $40 because I did not even touch their equipment once, and cancelled just a few hours after paying. They said “no” and said it was in their policy (that they don’t give you a copy of by the way.) HUGE RED FLAG, that was non-refundable. Really? Because that wasn’t in the contract that I read. Also, what about the extra $10 you charged me for a month in advance? I can’t even get THAT back? Absolutely disgusted by the sheer ignorance of this company. They are complete rip offs. Money hungry and there’s no excuse for this. I didn’t even have a membership for 3 hours and they still refused to refund my money plus the extra they charged.
It’s a bad place anyways! They give you free pizza. They have candy at the desk. It’s a GYM. Why would you push poor eating habits on people trying to improve their health and well-being? Not only are they absolute rip offs but they have some of the most idiotic rules I have EVER heard of. They call it a “judgement free zone” yet if you break any one of their dozens of rules, they sound a loud alarm and publicly shame and humiliate you and escort you out. I have heard nothing but terrible things. I have experienced nothing but terrible things. Just run at the park for free. Save your money, since you’re probably there on a budget anyways, because they WILL suck you dry. Or go to a gym that offers way more and doesn’t have stupid rules and isn’t all about ripping their customers off. It’d rather pay $30-$50 somewhere else and get what I’m paying for, this place is an adult playground. Period.

Here are facts and you decide. Fell asleep at Planet Fitness, Ok well I broke my neck 6 years ago.. after a year and half of medications during the years of 2014-16 I would go to Planet Fitness in the early morning hours when no one was there except a few and the guys (employees) at night would give me extra time on hydro beds and coins for massage chair. I was woken up 7-8 AM by the whole squad of local P.D where I was arrested for public intox. The employee was a woman who didn't like men that much wink wink - so I guess she never liked me as I would ask for ONE extra coin when she was working. She didn't like giving me time on the hydro bed, even though I was aware of other people coming to the chair, as there are two!
I was denied a blood test and a breath. I had to sit in a cell for 12 hours. PF has caused me to suffer from agoraphobia and it is very hard to walk to the local Rite Aid for milk. The H.R division def needs a review on their company LOGO - judgement free zone, hardly... sad and any other person, older, younger... would have just got tapped on the shoulder kinda like what I do when I go to church with my dad's best friend when he falls asleep. I was arrested on 6/16/16. I like to spread holistic awareness to remain well in life... a lot of other ways to limit pain and what not. Best wishes to all. DON'T FALL ASLEEP! Even if it's for 10 min. : / I have all these extra coins that was returned to me along with a ticket that I did not pay, had a warrant out for my arrest, had to spend more on costs and fines... Over drafted my bank account because of that... Ended up winning in court, all charges dropped and withdrawn.

Would like to see better ab equipment in all of the locations, particularly the crunch machine, and stop the loud music, as some of the locations, I do not visit because of this. Most people wear headphones these days anyway, so why have the music sooooo loud, since not all the folks may like what you are playing. On the days that food is given, so nice, but pizza really, when you are trying to help people lose weight? What about fruit, veggies, and healthful bars instead of bagels... Thanks so much.

I have used some of the other equipment and found all working well. The nice thing about Planet Fitness is most people are there to get or stay in shape. Not bodybuilders. I’ve been a black card member for 4 months now. Besides there being a discrepancy in the start up price as opposed to the advertisement price, I joined anyway. Since a member I have noticed certain hidden restrictions on the usage of the massage machines and also a popular weight machine that’s the only one of its kind that I like to use that’s tied up often. A lot of times this machine as well as others are often tied up by other members who prevent people from using them by leaving their personal belongings on and around the machines while they go elsewhere in the gym to workout on other machines. What’s sad about this is I finally approached personnel about the issue and nothing was done about it. One time an employee witnessed it as it happened while he was cleaning the gym equipment and did nothing about it. For whatever it’s worth, this is my continued experience 5-6 days a week at various hours of the day.

It has been great for me as I was going through grad school and working about 50 hours a week. It also has been a nice quiet atmosphere to get back into fitness after going through breast cancer; chemo, radiation and 10 surgeries. You people need to really listen. Planet Fitness is a scam. A ripoff. A day may pass and they're charging you $10 for a late fee. Last November instead of the regular $20 monthly charge to utilize the gym, I was charged $79 membership fee. I contacted my home gym I asked them what was going on why so much money was being taken out, and they said it was from late fees in the past, which was false, if I ever had a late fee I always paid at the desk, I never knew I had a late fee until I walked in and they brought me up on the computer and they told me I had a late fee so I paid it. But I didn't say anything about the $79. December of 2017, the very next month, they took out $85.
I called my home gym and I ask why in the world are they taking out so much money for the past couple of months when my membership is only $20 a month. They said it again it was because of late fees. I told them that was bull crap, because they took out $79 a month before and said it was because of late fees so how are they possibly taken out another whopping high amount, $85, for late fees two months in a row. I work and I'm in school so I'm not always able to make it into Planet Fitness, but I still always pay my membership. So I knew then they will ripping me off. I went to work and total co-worker what was happening because he worked out at another Planet Fitness location.
He told me the same exact thing happened to him that they kept taking out large amounts out of his account. He said there was a new guy at the counter when he went into question his account, and the new guy told him they're taken out that amount of money so they can apply it to the months ahead. And sure enough they did the same thing to me. That's $79 and November of 2017, and the $85 the very next month of December of 2017, was applied from January 2018 all the way through the spring months. So this company prepaid for all the months ahead without my permission. I'm looking into going into another gym but after reading the horror stories when it comes to canceling your membership at Planet Fitness.
I'm kind of scared to see what's going to happen when I do. The people at the counter keep telling me I need to get done a bank account number and a routing number to my bank account, and I told them that I refuse to and I refuse to pay online because of the money that they took out of my account which was a large amount. And I told them as long as I keep using Planet Fitness I will pay at the front desk and I will not put my information online for them to use as they please. But it's starting to be a headache because every time I go in there they always tell me I have to update my account information and I refuse to. Planet Fitness has gotten pretty desperate if you ask me. Buyers beware.

I will leave it at one star since I still think it's the cleanest gym I've ever been in and I've been in a few in the last 40 years. I joined this Planet Fitness Henderson, NV E Lake Mead club because it was close to home and the 24 hour fitness close to this location closed in Jan 2017. After visiting this location I went home to think about it because it was completely different than every other gym I've been a member of. I went home and decided to join and did it online. I read the online page that said you could bring in a guest as a member for free. I thought this was a really cool feature that NO other gym offered and I have a son at that time was 12. When I went into this club to finish my membership I asked the young redheaded girl behind the counter about bringing a guest and she said yes that is no problem.
About a year later when my son turned 13 I brought him and AFTER I checked in I asked the woman behind the counter what I needed to do to for my son to come in as a guest. She was NEW and another employee had to show her how to put him in the system using his telephone # as his login. He has been coming in with me for OVER a year and we have not had a problem as this was set up and everything was great. Fast forward to 5/31/2018 around 3:15 PM my son and I came in and after I checked in I went to start my workout and my son came up and told me that he couldn't work out because I was NOT a black card member. Well this has been going on for OVER A YEAR and I was told by at least 3 different employees that is was good to go for him to come in under my membership.
Well after a short round of conversation with the on duty manager that is severely lacking in customer service acumen I left pretty upset that there was not even an effort to come to a conclusion we could both work with... He was right... I was wrong and that was his stance. I dropped my son off at home and proceeded to find a different club. I contemplated not having a club that was as clean as PF but without the "Third Reich" rules and regulations and the customer service I got from my "NEW" club is already 10 fold better than PF. I did my workout and left to go to Lake Mead/Boulder HWY PF to cancel my membership and the manager had a complete lapse in customer service and showed absolutely no sign of wanting to work with me. He said I came in HOT and gave him no choice.
(If you had been doing something for OVER a YEAR that 3 different employees told you was OK and even set it UP in front of you, WOULDN'T YOU be upset too?) My stance from here on out is that I will DRIVE out of my way to go to a club that has better customer service and will work with their customers because they care that you are there... I got NONE of that from PF or its manager on duty. When 3 different employees tell you that you are good to go with bringing a guest you take that word as club gold. Ignorance or lack of knowledge of your employees IS NOT A GOOD EXCUSE nor a reason to degrade a customer.
Manager on duty was clearly agitated and was mumbling under his breath at the back end of the counter with his back turned. I called him on it and asked if he would like to settle this outside. Not for the $10 membership, but because I felt completely disrespected. I would like an apology from the owner of this club and for god’s sake make your managers take some lessons on customer service.

It's sad really that a company whose whole theme is the idea to make you a better version of yourself, can probably be 1 of the sneakiest crooked companies out there! I have worked in customer service for a while now, and it blows me away how shady these people are! 1st, I want to say that without planet fitness I wouldn't have lost 140lbs, all while I am in a wheelchair so it bothers me to hate their company policies as badly as I do. It's obvious from the start that they are weasels when you find out that you have to physically go into the gym to cancel your membership. That's HORRIBLE customer service! If I don't want you charging my card or bank I should have the right to call to do it like millions of other companies.
Anyways back to real reason I am writing this, about 2 years ago I had a grand mal seizure in my sleep that was so bad it tore my rotator cuff. I loved going to the gym, but I couldn't. I didn't want to call and cancel, I wanted to wait till it healed, but in 2 years I still can't curl a quarter of what I used to with my left arm without a stinging pain going from my shoulder thru the middle of my bicep, so I decided to cancel. I call and explain the situation and ask about canceling over the phone instead of putting my wheelchair in the truck and driving a half hour to the gym, but nope no chance! That would actually be decency! So I drive there, go in, cancel my membership. That was months ago.
This morning I wake up to see they charged me the annual fee! Not only did I pay them for a gold membership for 2 years while never using a single gym once (just because of my hopes of returning) but after taking all that money for nothing, they are still screwing me! I called and they said it was placed on hold! Are you kidding me? I just hope there is karma and someday this company will go under, but they won't because of all the money they steal from people. It's shocking to read some of these stories and now that it's not just my PF in Stratham, NH but a corporation level scheme. IDK, maybe 1 day someone who can do something about it will catch on and stop this.
I have worked in retail in customer service for years now and to think of the companies I worked for treating customers like this is just a joke, it would never happen! I would love to be a fly on the wall at 1 of their corporate get-togethers and see how they really feel and view all their members. I'm guessing as just a bunch of walking, or in my case rolling (haha), dollar bill signs!

I have been a Planet Fitness member since January of 2013 at the Bronx 3 Avenue location (2913 3 Avenue Bronx, New York 10455). I decided that I wanted to transfer membership location but online it states that it is considered just like starting a new membership with a new annual fee. The reason for change of location is to accommodate my teenage son. Since it was like starting new account I thought I can cancel before my annual fee is charged then enroll him in our local Planet Fitness to avoid making two annual fees within the same year. I read that he can have his own membership but I would still need to walk him in and sign a waiver for him to workout. That would be extremely inconvenient but as long as it is only until he turns 16 I will oblige.
On May 30, 2018 I decided to cancel my service. Another inconvenience. I had to go to the gym itself to cancel not able to do it online. I spoke to a front desk young lady ** who was rude. I wanted to know what if anything was needed before I get to location, her concern was if I had an amount owed. Which honestly never even crossed my mind since I have always had auto deductions which prompted me to say “Wait I cannot cancel if I have an amount owed?” She stumbled on her words and stated, "Oh you can just come in." Another inconvenient but I headed there straight from work. I get to location and ** was at the desk. I provided my name and swiped my card.
She advised me since I canceled after the 25th I would still be charged the annual fee. Which was set to be deducted June 1, 2018. Since I had not been to the gym or had seen this information on any paperwork I asked to see this on my contract which states that because I thought I would cancel before June 1st I would not have a problem. She could not find a contract on file for me.
I wanted a manager and she called ** who would not come downstairs. Advised ** what to relay to me. The young lady sucked her teeth, was upset a contract was not at arms-reach. She is pregnant apparently so it bothered her to have to walk a few feet away from the desk to an employee room. It bothered her because as she was walking away she commented about wanting to leave and was sick of this place. She came back to the desk and showed me a blank contract that stated the rule. I advised her that a blank contract does not have my signature. I once again requested a manager and after 25 minutes she decided to come down.
A woman passed right behind me and straight to the computer where ** was sitting and proceeded to search for the contract. I did not even know she was the manager until she walked over to me and started to talk to me about the rules of canceling. She did not introduce herself, very unprofessional to not even acknowledge a customer. First thing I said “So you do not even know why I am canceling or what my concern might be?” Ms. ** did not have knowledge of the transfer policy, “On your first visit to your new home club, you may be required to sign a new Member Agreement.” I wanted to know is it because each location might have a different owner. She could not answer the question.
Then asked me did I complete the cancellation, which I did not at the time. She said we should get that done and then we could discuss the annual fee. In the process to cancel I advised her I was definitely canceling my membership. I was not satisfied with customer service at this location. She advised me they only have a selection when the customer is not satisfied with amenities. I thought that was ridiculous but I do not have personal access to the Planet Fitness system to confirm. I asked for the name of her manager so I can generate an email and she stated, "we can find the contract since we have a different system since 2013. We would have to send the information to corporate and it might take some time."
I said I am okay with the process taking time. We canceled the membership. She left to reach out to the area manager ** to advise her what concerns I had plus I wanted to know who is the person above the area manager is. Ms. ** stated the area manager would be the only person that can waive that fee and she stated we will try to work with you. I was slightly hopeful.
Ms. ** walked away, she took so long coming back to me that I had to go downstairs and put more money on the meter which means I had already spent 45 minutes at Planet Fitness. 20 minutes later Ms. ** came back in front of me. Said two words “I spoke” to then takes an incoming call not say a word and walked away. 15 minutes later she returns and I quickly advise her of her unprofessionalism to have me wait and then accept a call that was not related to assisting a customer. Ms. ** stated, "I spoke to corporate. They have determined that the fee must be paid if you have any questions please reach out to the area manager by email."
I reminded her that the I requested the name of the individuals above the area manager. Ms. ** stated I am not able to provide you that information please reach out to the area manager and she can provide that. Ms. ** was deceitful with the information she provided. When I reminded her when she said she would speak to area manager and it would take time to locate contract she went on to tell me I did not say that. I wish I would have recorded the entire transaction on my cell phone because I could not believe what I was hearing. Maybe your facility can show you the video footage and God voice recording of the entire situation, how she came down didn’t address me and the many times she stepped away without consideration.
I work at the largest Utility in New York. If I had the audacity to provide this form of customer service to people we provide service to my company would have had corrective actions done immediately. Regardless of the community you are in Bronxville or the South Bronx any company that serves within a community should have some standards that embody exceptional customer service, you should achieve for operational excellence and proudly represent your company in the community.
I never had an issue that I needed to go to Planet Fitness to make complaints or anything. I don’t even use the membership but had no issue making my monthly payments on time. The one time I wanted to make changes I came across the most unprofessional women who did not satisfy my concerns and left me drained with the entire experience. I also pay for the membership of my college age son. Creating a membership for my High School 15 year old was the objective. I can definitely advise you the only way I will continue other memberships that I pay for within my family is to only guarantee it is not owned and operated by the same individuals. This email will also be placed on social media sites as my review because this was my own personal experience. It has been very disappointing. Training is needed.

On Apr. 28th I went to Planet Fitness and was rudely told that I still had to pay a $39.00 annual fee because she advised me that I would have had to cancel my yearly membership 5 days before it ends, so take your pick... You're going to be penalized either 39.00 or 56.00 to be penalized either way! Carefully read your contract! What a scam they run!! Beware of these crooks...

My wife and I recently joined Planet Fitness. We met with the representative, who was very busy/distracted/and struggling with computer system problems. We were told that there was a $10.00 per person/per month membership fee, period. No other fees. We signed up, and have been happy with our experience at the gym. Today we both got charged a $39.00 annual fee. This fee was not disclosed by the rep who signed us up. The rep on the phone's response was that it was written in the agreement that we signed. So bottom line is that it is our fault for not reading the fine print. But I am disappointed that the actual human rep was not forthcoming and truthful about the fees. I plan to cancel my membership at the earliest opportunity. This is not how I do business, nor will I support a business that resorts to these tactics.

I was up for my renewal annual fee. I went into the "home store" that I had been going to, canceled my account. They had it in writing, the employee that was at the counter signed the acknowledgment that I was canceling my account. They have now withdrawn $41.73 from my account which overdrew my account. When I called to talk to the manager. She said that there was nothing that they could do. When I explained exactly what happened that day with the employee even the date and the time she is refusing to cancel my account and refund the money that I was charged, said that all her employees know what they are doing and there was no note of this on my account. Instead of providing good customer service and refunding my money and investigating the issue with her employees said there was nothing that she was going to do. This fitness club is a joke and screws over their members with fraudulent charges.

I called to cancel my membership last week. I realized that my annual fee was going to be taken out of my bank account and I rarely use my membership. I've gone twice in 3 months. I called 6 days before my annual fee would be billed. The girl told me that I would still be charged the fee because it wasn't 7 days before, but that the store manager would work with me since I called 1 day late. I waited 4 days until the store manager would be back in, he says he can't do anything since it's only 2 days before the fee gets billed. Even though I called several days ago and had to wait for him to be available, AND the original employee verified I had called sooner and he wasn't available. Still won't help me. Since the stores are independently owned, there is no corporate office to talk to. Only a regional manager, who leaves everything up to the store manager's discretion. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

Even though there is nothing on the contract and wasn't even told this on the phone, my daughter was told that it is the policy of the store in Webster, MA. The person I spoke with agreed that there is nothing in writing but that is their policy. I told him that Planet Fitness will lose 4 memberships over a lousy 20 dollars, he did not give a **. I joined last July on Dauphin Street in Mobile, Alabama. I went a few times around 9:00 p.m. The clientele was sketchy and I had some young men tracking me - had a friend there whom they did not know I was with and I texted her on her machine to watch and tell me if they were following me - and yes they were. We didn't let on that we were together. When it was time to leave, they were watching and went out ahead of us. I asked a young man who claimed that he was the night manager to see us to the door - as we were parked right in front of the door. The boys were outside in a group and when he saw two of us walk out and the 'manager' watching us, they scattered. I decided that I don't need this riff raff and the next day, went online to cancel my membership. Nope! You can't. They said you must do it with your local center. I called there to cancel. Nope! You have to come in.
I went in (this was January or February) and they told me I could not cancel until March or the fee to cancel would be more than just staying with it if I did it before March. So in March, I went back in, filled out the forms and cancelled. I also informed them that I no longer used that particular bank account so they needed to make sure it was not billed that month. Today, I received a letter from the bank telling me my account has $120 in fees because they continued to bill it and they hit it three times in the last 5 days, totaling $90 just since last Wednesday!!! They also hit me in March and there was a fee. They hit me three times in the past 5 days at $30 each, totaling $120.
I went to Planet Fitness and was told there was no cancellation in the system - though I received emails saying "We are sorry to see you go..." and "Come back...." The curt manager told me that I would have received an email with the cancellation in it. I had assumed the 'Sorry to see you go" was that. She told me the only way to cancel it is to pay $40 in back fees and the $58 cancellation fee. They won't help me with the $120 bank fees. This company is set up to deliberately take your money and make cancelling your membership a big pain in the ass! They are CROOKS!!!

I went in and complained. I was told it was a mistake. Still, the bank makes 35 bucks a pop. I am wondering if they are in collusion with PNC Bank? Four months in a row that I can see they have played with the withdraw date. I am done. I will update as this continues. I liked the facility. I like working out there. I again said "this is my first visit, and I want to get on a stationary bike." She waved towards the back and said "help yourself, any one you want".
I spent 10 minutes trying to get the machine to turn on, and when I was trying to "ride" the bike, it kept "pausing" without warning, which would cause me to fall forward on my new knee replacement. Then it would "resume" without warning, and I would need to pedal like heck. Then, the surprise "pause", and my new knee would go flying forward. After a half dozen times of this painful experience, I walked back up to the front desk, just to find the two still watching the tv. So much for giving a new guy any assistance. One of the rules at Planet Fitness is when you finish using a machine, wipe it clean for the next person. There are several cleaning stations with paper towels and spray to allow the user to clean the sweat off the machine they just used. I noticed a man using several machines and never wiped them clean. I told the staff of what I had seen. They said “oh, you are the second person today that has complained". I asked them if they could tell the man to clean the machine. Their reply was, “no, we can’t tell him anything. We are judgment free zone”. What? I couldn’t believe their reply.
They would rather put their customers thru unsanitary conditions and put their well-being in jeopardy than to tell a client that is obviously breaking the rules they themselves put in place than to hold him accountable for his actions. Two weeks later, I terminated my membership with Planet Fitness. I don’t recommend anyone to join. It is my opinion that Planet Fitness cares more about money and their slogan than clients. We are all entitled to a clean environment without having to worry about diseases.

BEWARE Planet Fitness (Westmont NJ) Shady Tactics in my opinion: I fell for their New Year Promo…$10 mo. No commitment marketing. They tell you that on March 1st they are going to hit with you a add’l $39 annual fee. I called prior to this date to cancel. They told me the only way to cancel is to come in person or to send a certified letter. (It’s 2018, I can’t cancel online or do an e-signature or email or fax… Really?) Clearly, a way to deter folks from canceling. I go into the gym a few days later to cancel and get my $39 refunded or pro-rated. The Manager refused, the Regional Manager (Elaina) refused. They refused to provide me with the name of the owner. I then call the corporate office and they refuse. They tell me I would have needed to cancel (5) days ‘prior’ to 3/1 in order to avoid the $39 fee.
“Shady”/unethical business practices as far as I’m concerned. Just because the industry is not heavily regulated and lets them legally get away with this doesn’t mean it’s right! BEWARE. There are a ton of other gyms out there that I’m sure treat their customers better! (When I called Wells Fargo Bank to dispute the charge, the woman in the Criminal Investigations Dept. tells me Planet Fitness did the same thing to her!! I go into a work meeting the next day and share my story with some of our management team and my former manager tells me the same thing happened to her at Planet Fitness.) There were 3 other complaints by other members the same day I called the Westmont NJ Planet Fitness. This is clearly a systemic issue.
Within (2) days I was able to deter (5) friends from joining this gym…$10 x 12=$120 + $39 fee = $150 yr. x 5 = $750 in lost revenue. Clearly, they don’t understand that their decision to refuse my $40 refund and cause such a negative experience equates to a tenfold loss for them. They lack the tenets of customer service. I’ve only just begun to use my voice to share my experience. It’s time to take a stand for what is right! Stay tuned! When I asked the corp. office what the $39 fee pays for he told me it's for bldg. maintenance, cleaning, upkeep - then why should I have to pay this fee that covers a full year if I am not a member, never used the gym after the fee hit. Makes no sense why I (or anyone) should have to pay for something I never utilized. Again... BEWARE!!
PS: Once you get to the gym they then tell you the $10 mo. is only if you sign a year membership. (Which is the opposite of the meaning of ‘no commitment’.) Otherwise, the cost is really $15 mo. Plus the $39 annual fee. PSS: The owner is Bill Fidler of New Hampshire who owns Planet Fitness locations in Blackwood, Brooklawn, and Cinnaminson. Planet Fitness is unfit in providing essential integrity to its members when it comes to canceling their membership! I took out my membership for my wife and I in March 2017. By November, we had only used our membership three times, so we decided to cancel our membership. I called the Rockwood, Gresham, Oregon facility, and I asked how to go about cancelling our membership. They replied that there was a $50 penalty for cancellation before the one year contract was fulfilled, and since our fee for November had already been paid, I was encouraged to stay. What I was told made sense, so in January 2018, I called again, and I was told I would have to come in person to cancel.
When I went to the facility, I was told that I would still have to pay for 2 more months or pay the $50 penalty. I went again in Februrary, and they said there was no way I could get out of the contract until after April 15, 2018. Today is March 16, 2018. My wife felt that I should go down and check with them again, since one is not allowed to cancel online or over the phone. I almost didn't go, but if my wife has a feeling about something she is normally right. When I arrived and spoke to the manager, he stated that I should have come in before March 10, 2018 to cancel. Since it was March 16, 2018, Planet Fitness charged us another month's membership fee even though my year was up in February.
When I explained the wrong information I was given time and time again, the manager, who was very nice, just said, "That's the way our corporate office does business". I'm very happy that I put it on my AE. I'm going to dispute this charge and cancel the membership. When I contacted the PF website for a complaint. They sent a message back to me that each one is owned and operated individually and they couldn't do anything to help and I need to contact the business I joined at. This company sucks. It is a bait and switch and have no customer service. DO NOT JOIN THIS COMPANY.

Planet Fitness - Murfreesboro, TN - I tried cancelling my membership early in 2017 and was told I needed to come in, I work full time and go to school full time, so I never had the time to actually come by the gym, I knew my membership would be up soon and I fulfilled my contract obligation and then charged for annual membership fee, I asked for a refund and they told me it non-refundable and that I needed to let them know by the 25th of the prior month that I wanted to cancel. I wasn't aware they were going to continue charging an annual fee and they will not refund anything, I'm a budget and refuse to help. They said a lot of people are asking for refunds and they are refusing.

Back on July I forgot about my payment that was due which was automatically taken out of my account. I logged into my account online at Planet Fitness and it said it was CANCELED. I went down to the Planet Fitness and talked with the lady at the front desk. She said my account was CANCELED and if I wanted to re-start my membership that I would have to pay a certain amount. I declined and decided to not re-start my membership. So I left. Since then Planet Fitness has been charging my card 10 bucks a month. I didn't keep a good enough eye on my account and didn't notice. Now they say I owe them 200 before I can cancel or they will keep charging my card until I pay. I've contacted them several times and their customer service is horrible. I just want them to stop charging my card and to refund the last 10 dollars they took out of my account today!!

I joined Planet Fitness closest to where I live and work, as I live close to where I work. When I joined it was a $1 to join and then the monthly fee on the 17th, and of course I chose to be a black card member. I started going. I have gone two or three times in the first week and then stopped going. I had a guest with me each time. Me and my guest never felt exactly comfortable, but we are not sure if it is the gym itself or us missing our old gym that we used to go to.
Anyways, the after we had already gone out two or three times, I got billed the first month on the 17th. That was great, except they billed me twice, and overdrew my account. So I had to go in twice to take care of that, not to mention the trip to the bank with the letter from the manager to reverse the overdraft fees. This was several days of headaches and worry. Plus the waiting for the refund that took about two weeks to get back.
Then they took out the yearly fee, or at least it better have been a yearly fee, two months after I joined. But they drafted my account at midnight, or just after and my payday wasn't until 4 AM, so there was another overdraft. I didn't even dispute that one, because I did sign the year contract and I thought it would come out at the beginning of business. That is my fault. They have never charged me exactly on the 17th. I watch my bank account daily, so I do know that. I don't care what anyone else says. That makes it hard to plan. However, I continued to pay the monthly fee for a couple of months.
Then we decided that we will stop paying for the Planet Fitness and return to our old gym. We were happier there anyways, and as I had only used it a few times and had no plans to return, we decided to cancel. I canceled the policy, and yes I went into the location and paid the buyout. They charged me for a whole other month, on the 20th. Now yes I canceled on the 16th. But there was NO mention of having to cancel before the 10th, until I went into the gym, mad as all get out. I mean come on. And they can say they can put in a request for a refund but she can pretty much guarantee the request will be denied. So I paid for a month I have no intention of using, and have already canceled my membership. I MEAN COME ON!!!
I read the reviews right before I joined. And honestly I don't need anyone to make me feel guilty I got taken in by them. I already feel guilty enough. I have given up on getting the one month's fees back, I am more focused on stopping any further charges. The thing that sucks though, is that now I am nervous about going back to any gym, even our previous one that we liked. I am so worried about giving out my information again.

When I signed up for the new location in Iowa City, IA, I was so excited. There was a gym about 3 miles from my house that was a "judgement free zone". Things went great for the first year, and I genuinely liked the gym. But after that first year, I decided not to renew my membership. I read my contract up and down (I was locked into a year-long contract) to make sure there was no auto-renewal agreement. There wasn't! So I just stopped going. Now they're saying I owe them for that full extra year (even though I gave them my keycard back, so how am I going to the gym?).
They refuse to cancel the service until I pay them for a year of a membership that I don't want and I didn't use. Frankly, I'm not paying $270 for a year of an unused membership. I don't even live in Iowa City anymore, and haven't since 2016, the year they're charging me for. But they still refuse to cancel until I've paid? This definitely makes me never want to join another Planet Fitness.

I tried to explain that I wasnt made aware of this when I joined online and they refused to refund my money. I asked to take my bank account info off my account.
I was giving a number to call to make this change. Come January, they couldnt get the funds from my new account so they pulled it out of my original account and took out a late fee. At this point, I decided to close my account. I called and was told to come into the physical location in order to cancel membership. I went in on January 29th 2018 and closed out my account. The gentleman behind the counter provided me with paperwork showing that my account was closed and that I owed $0 balance.
On Feb. 3, 2018 I received an email with my cancellation paperwork. When I opened the document, they put that I requested my account to be closed on Feb.2, therefore I owe the annual membership fee! This fee is taken out on Feb.1, I canceled on January 29th. They changed my dates around in order to try and get money from me when I have to original paperwork with the date I canceled and showing I didnt owe anything. I called the gym and asked to speak with whoever is overbilling and accounts, a lady came on the line.
I provided my information and explained my situation. She looked in her system and said it shows I canceled on Feb. 1 therefore I owe the fee. I tried to no avail to explain I have my paperwork and can provide it to show that the information in their system is inaccurate and that what they are doing is fraud and illegal. She didnt even care and hung up! Now I get text messages every day stating I need to update my account to pay my balance (I had the bank close my account so they couldnt take any more money). I joined Planet Fitness in 2016 as a Black Card member. My home club had not yet opened, but they advertised a hydro area and massage chairs. I was advised Black Card members could bring one person each session. I was not impressed when the club officially opened. The hydro area was nothing more than hydro massage beds, the massage chairs were OK, but what was not disclosed is Black Card guests are not allowed to use those amenities. That is very misleading considering their website says unlimited guest privileges. Nonetheless, I continued to pay my "one time membership fee" and then paid my monthly fees and annual fees without incident.
Fast forward to 2018. I called the club to downgrade to the $10/month plan. I was told you must go to the location to make any policy changes. That is complete nonsense considering you can join online. I was informed I would be required to pay a $39 member initiation fee to downgrade. Why would a current member need to pay another member initiation fee? The representative explained a new membership fee was necessary because I was outside of my initial 12 month commitment AKA contract. My response was to cancel the membership entirely. I was emailed a document confirming cancellation. The document said my last day to use the facilities was 2/3/2018. I did not use the facilities 2/3/2018. I last used the facilities in January 2018. I was only there today at the behest of the club to make changes in my policy. I believe they apply the later day so they can bill for dates of use extending to another monthly cycle.

When I first signed up for Planet Fitness, it seemed like a great deal. I created a black card account so that my teenage sister and I could both use it. I TRIED to cancel the membership or put it on hold when my little sister stopped going to the gym because she moved out of the country with family for a year. They made it nearly impossible for me to do this, and told me I needed my minor sister's PERMISSION in order to stop the charges to my debit card (THIS IS ILLEGAL!). They said I needed to get a letter from my 13 year old sister giving her permission from overseas to stop the charges to my account.
I dropped the matter for a while because it was so much trouble, and the workers there argued with me about canceling. Months later, my debit card was stolen and I immediately went to Planet Fitness and explained I wanted my membership canceled because I didn't want to incur any extra fees since I no longer had my card. They acted like this was fine, and said it was now canceled, and the guy at the desk said I didn't owe anything else. That was yesterday. Today, as soon as I wake up, I receive a notice from Chase saying my bank account is now negative because Planet Fitness charged me $42.80. For most of the machines, there are two pairs of each equipment but since this location is extremely crowded, these out-of-order equipments reduces down the options and causes lines to form up in front of every major equipment. Number of members seems to be too high for the capacity of this location and the unpleasant experience can only be resolved if the equipments are repaired or new sets are added (There should be two sets of each equipment to balance the demand of this crowd). Except for one representative, all of the staff members are unfriendly and unhelpful. I gave two stars only because the facilities has been kept very clean since my first day at this location.

These reviews are driving me absolutely crazy; I never usually write reviews, but there is so much misleading information that I couldn't not post something. This is coming from someone who is a current Black Card member at PF and will continue to be one. The first trend I've noticed after reading a few reviews was about cancelling your membership and Planet Fitness being "scam artists", if you will. First things first, if you need to cancel your membership, you'll have to go into one of their locations. As far as I'm aware, you cannot do this over the phone, which is consistent with many other gym policies in my area. Standard procedure.
Secondly, they bill a checking account once a month on the 17th. In order to cancel your membership and not be billed for that month, you'll need to cancel on or before the 10th of the same month. A few other pointers about this: If you owe money to them at the time of cancellation, you will have to pay the full amount due. Duh. Come on people; If you have a Black Card membership, you are locked in at your monthly price for an entire year. Read the fine print. If you would like to cancel, you are responsible for paying a $58.00 cancellation fee; If you are not a responsible human being and you haven't been paying your membership on time, you'll incur late fees. Is this not standard with any other bill or membership type? Well indeed, it is.
There is a once a year $39.00 maintenance fee, billed around April 1. This should not come as a shocker to you. Every other gym I've been to has this exact same policy and it's up to you to have money in your account to cover this. Yes, it is taxed and will be more than $39.00 (depending on your city's tax rate). No, this is not refundable. I was told that if you cancel before the 10th of the previous month, you wouldn't be charged the annual fee on April 1.
If you have moved out of the area, were you not aware of this change days before it would happen? Did you not discontinue your utilities or cable and internet? How is a location-specific gym any different? It is still a company that has a business to run. You must treat a gym membership the same as you would utilities or cable and internet. And get this, you'll have to abide by the company's rules in order to get what you want. Shocker? I think not.
They have changed their policy to bill a checking account every month instead of a credit card. This is due to the fact that a checking account is much more secure in ensuring that the company gets paid every month. Why would you put bills on a credit card anyway? Doesn't seem like a smart financial move in the first place.
The gym itself - purple and yellow. Everything is purple and yellow. It is extremely clean and my gym particularly has 23,000 square feet of gym space (per the gal who gave us the tour). I don't care too much for the exact amount of square feet; all I care about is how the gym feels. High ceilings and adequate space between sections within the gym give it a less-than claustrophobic feel, which I enjoy. The locker rooms are wonderfully spacious and the lockers can actually hold a full-size gym bag. Plenty of cardio equipment and strength training equipment. 30-minute circuit is wonderful for those who are in need for a quick workout and no thinking. Classes come free with your membership and can be pre-booked online or on the Planet Fitness smartphone app. I would suggest doing this because each class can only hold five people.
All in all, this place is a gym, duh. It is not a fine-dining restaurant that you are to be waited on hand and foot. You go, you work hard, you clean up after yourself, you eat right, and you'll achieve your goals. If you are a responsible human being, you'll pay your membership dues every month and your annual fee once a year. You'll look at your bank account to make sure there aren't any problems with their billing. And if there is, you'll go in and politely inquire about the issue. If you are rude to the young lady at the front desk, she has every right to be rude back to you. Those kids just work there and aren't paid enough to deal with your rude disposition; they have no control over the company's system or billing procedures. Treat others as you wish to be treated. Review (rant) over.

He refused to work with me or provide documentation. I am still in the process of trying to discontinue. By the time I actually reached a manager, I had called four times. I don't think William understands that people who work do not have the time to run to Planet Fitness to retrieve paperwork.
While I understand it was in the very lengthily contract it would seem the company would try and work with me over $8.00. Like maybe just deduct the $8.00 instead of continuing to bill me the full $21.00 for four months. Companies who will not work with you are normally desperate. This is most likely why the Renton Planet Fitness has a 1 1/2 rating. My reason for leaving is they have very limited equipment.
I highly recommend L.A. Fitness, although they cost more they have all the appropriate equipment and their staff is very polite and professional. William at Planet Fitness could greatly better himself by taking a personal relations class and a few business classes as well. He does not seem to grasp professionalism or life outside a gym. When I called for the fourth time I was very, very stressed out. When I spoke to William It seems he is very skilled at taunting and baiting people to react (much like a low rent collection agency). I am a grateful and frequent user of the Planet Fitness that recently opened above the Aldi's on Lee & Main in Fairfax City, VA. From my first visit/tour, the staff was upfront with me about fees and expectations, and answered all the questions I had. They have since exceeded those expectations with courtesy, respect, and patience. I've found that the staff work to live up to the ideals of maintaining a clean "judgment free, lunk-free zone" and for the first time in my life I find myself looking forward to my next visit and workout--and that's opposite of my experience at the other main-line gyms of my past. An added benefit is the hydro-massage--included in black card membership--a great way to end the workouts and minimize muscle soreness.
Although previous reviewers have complained of "fraudulent and/or surprise billing," my experience is that payments are consistently handled as expected from the contract I read and signed upon joining. Yes, I've been enthusiastically recommending Planet Fitness to friends, acquaintances, and the Aldi's staff downstairs (who, by the way, are very grateful for PF's don't-throw-weights-down policy! Several have commented on how "nice and quiet" PF is: "We rarely hear them up there--unlike the previous gym tenants!") Thank-you for your service, PF!

I said to the young lady, there should be signage of new contract change or warning if there is a problem with payment due to contract change, follow instructions.
INSTEAD THEY BOMBARD YOU WITH LATE FEES AND THROW YOUR ** IN COLLECTIONS. I've been a customer in good standing for over 3 years (I have a great credit rating). The Young lady told me she has over 9 thousand customers and will not handle any problems and said it's all on the customer (I'm sure that was not the response when the company was first starting). I not sure if it legal to change a contract without notification, but believe me with Social media, I can surely ask the question, and hopefully someone out in the media world can help! Finally, it's very sad the corporate world doesn't give two hoots about their customers, only the money! Wake up everyone, read your contract, cancel, and go elsewhere!

Although inexpensive to join there are things to watch out for. Upon cancelling membership there's a 60 dollar fee. In the case of me they charged my acct after I cancelled so I had to change my acct. If you're now paying to bring a guest why do they take so much info. From your guest name number picture etc. There's no disclosures in your membership disqualifying who can or can't come yet they've been known to stop certain guests from coming as your "guest" keep all records of when you stopped membership because they've been known to keep billing you after you stop your membership. It happened to me.

Loud music, unfriendly staff. They also forged my paperwork I filled out when I terminated my contract. I was honest and put why I quit, and when I received my copy in my email it had been changed to say I quit as I didn’t have time. WTH? You do know forgery is a felony, right?

I joined PF in Jan 2017. On October 21st, PF charged my regular fee of $10.83, then on October 25th, they charged me an extra $30 without explanation. On December 18th, they charged my card $10.83, then they charged me again on December 23rd, $15.00. When I called the location, at first the girl/guy that answered the phone said they were having computer issues. Then they said, since I had never been into the fitness center, they had not set up my account correctly and this was why I was being overcharged. PF could not explain the extra charges. I asked to speak to a manager, the person, Lucille? said the manager was "out to lunch" and that I had to come to the store to get a refund. Lucille agreed that I was due a refund. I told Lucille that I would not come to the store because I lived across town, she said, "Hold on, let me get the manager."
Now all of a sudden, the manager that was out to lunch is now available (all within 5 minutes). I asked the manager why they were charging me all these extra fees, at first, she said I had two credit/debit cards on file, then she said that it was late fees. Really. I asked the manager for a refund, Susan??? Not sure of the actual manager's name because they lie so much, said NO. I said why not, she said NO. I asked for the corporate office number, she refused. I asked for the independent owner's information, she refused, then hung up on me. WHAT KIND OF BUSINESS ARE THEY RUNNING WHERE THEY CAN JUST STEAL people's money, give them attitude and then hang up on them. Needless to say, PF will never get my business again and I will make it my life's work to prevent every person that I can from doing business with them. They are a serious Joke. You get what you pay for, cheap fees for cheap service.

I had a membership with Planet Fitness for some time and always paid but very very rarely used the membership. Recently I became very ill and had to relocate to another state. I'm not physically able to move around like I use to and I reached out to Planet Fitness via phone numerous times asking them to cancel my membership but just will not do it. I told them about my condition but it don't matter. They just keep hitting my account and won't refund my money at all. They lure you in and then screw you at the end. Very very very unsatisfied customer.

Planet Fitness took money out of my account more than once for my monthly membership. I had to move out of the area and they would not cancel my membership. This company is one of the worse. I have not used my account in months, they don't take that into consideration. I hate this company. The worse customer service ever.

I’ve joined the Planet Fitness in Edgewater in July and after getting a fitness assessment was offered a monthly personal training. I said I would like to get it for 3 (max 4) months. Won’t be able to afford it longer. The manager assured me it won’t be a problem getting out of the contract. He never mentioned to me that they also had 3 months options. In October I approached the manager telling him that I won’t be able to pay for next month and asked him to terminate the contract. He pretty much said it won’t be possible unless I provide the documents confirming my move-out. I provided a ticket with one way flight to my home country. He later said it’s not enough and on November 17th my card had been charged again.
Later I spoke with the “next level manager” and was again assured to be helped. This manager said that “his manager” is ready to get me off the hook after charging for December which is unacceptable. My last conversation was 2 days ago and nobody contacted me since. I’m asking for November to be refunded as I never used November sessions. I wouldn’t recommend their program unless you are ready to go full year. No matter what they promise.

Planet Fitness is a bait and switch. They lure you in with low monthly fee but the gym itself is awful because they play heavy metal music so loud you can't stand it and don't want to go. They also try to trap you into annual contracts and make you jump through hoops to stop them. Rude staff. Stay away from this gym. Ick!

They offered me a tour, are very friendly, answer any questions I have eagerly, and for the price you can't go wrong! I don't know why people keep complaining about the annual fee, or the cancellation fee (that you shouldn't even need to do, just finish your contract). Even after paying both of those things you still won't be paying anywhere near as much money as what other gyms would charge you. Stop being so greedy, and learn to recognize a good thing when you see it! You will not get a better deal anywhere else!
