They led us to believe this was a robust program (and solvent). My son took much time narrowing down to this program which sounded good for dual diagnosis and even the reviews were good I see here. They were having financial troubles and still proceeded with our application and the day we were arriving from Oregon they called to say they had to shut their doors. Don’t come. Period. Shame on you owners for continuing to solicit clients when you stated clearly on Facebook that the insurance industry made it hard for you to stay open and it also sounds like you had an investor pull out so you knew you might have to shut down. Anyone considering Sober College of addiction studies be leery as they may not be around either.

We are confident in the program and staff at Sober College. After attending the Family Weekend we see a marked improvement in the communication and mood of our son, as he closes in on 90 days sober. We chose Sober College for our son because of their focus on the Five Core Competencies. We could see that while the structure would allow my son to get sober. However it was Sober College’s program that supports our son so he can rebuild and develop tools so he can choose to stay sober once he leaves the program. We appreciate Sober College’s deliberate and gradual steps of accountability towards greater privileges and freedoms. Residents are treated with love and respect. Sober College is not a quick fix, nor is it cheap, but we feel hopeful that they will help our son get his life back.

My sons stay started very well. For all of us things were clear and defined. After Anthony left it became very confusing. Rules and consequences were vague. An addict will take that grey area and exploit it. So it sets them up for contests. Lack of staff communication added to the messiness of it. Made outcomes emotional not consequential. Opposite of what you want. He is clean now but only because of his first 3 months with Anthony. Great caring staff but a lot of fuzz at the end.

When I brought it up it was discounted. FYI of course I would be most reactionary to this. It's my son. I had a very hard time reaching people and coordinating things like travel. That was also a change. Anthony was on top of it before. I showed up 39 min early and noticed and called me out on it. It made me relieved to know this is who was taking care of my kid. After he left no one had a plan to pick my son up at the airport. He was left there for an hour and 30 min. When we called ahead it was, "Yeah, we will get back to you." Nothing. Then when he arrived no one answered.

Please don't leave kids especially those in recovery alone at an airport at midnight with no money or food for 90 min. Not cool. Then act like we are hysterical. That creates doubt, lack or credibility and causes teamwork to melt. Yes he is sober now. Few from his still are. I can't think but that may be different if Anthony were still there and the setups and gotcha was not.

My experience with Sober College has been excellent. The staff is experienced, engaged, and reliable. The connection with parents is consistent and thorough. I believe they make a significant impact on the youth they serve. When changes were recommended, the administration was responsive and proactive. I believe Sober College has a model that works in that the youth are required to be productive during their recovery by enrollment in secondary education, work, exercise, and volunteer commitments. The opportunity for a progressive recovery under the umbrella of Sober College is crucial to the success of their clients.

Graduating to higher levels of independence while continuing to have the Sober College resources of mentorship, accountability and stable living, is a process that is crucial to success. I have recommended Sober College to another peer and wouldn't hesitate to recommend their program to anyone looking for an excellent recovery program.

Sober College is an amazing treatment center for young adults. The most endearing thing about Sober College is the family-like atmosphere that permeates throughout the staff and facilities. During my time there I was able to reinvent myself spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally. This is due to the various activities and therapy sessions that promoted a new way of thinking. I also learned the life skills I needed to be a functional adult and it was an easy transition back into the real world after my time there was done. I would recommend it to anyone.

Upon entering Sober College, I honestly did not know what I was going to get out of it. I came in on Christmas Eve of 2011, I was kicked out of high school, I had completely ruined relationships with all of my friends and family, and I knew I needed to find a new way of living my life. Sober College offered me that and so much more. While at Sober College I completed high school, maintained sobriety, and went on to graduate college and played Division I baseball for four years. I have stayed sober since the day I set foot in Sober College, and I wouldn't be where I am without the unbelievable staff and program that they offered me.

I was 22 and I couldn't stop drinking. I knew I had a problem, but I couldn't figure out how to stop on my own. In 2014, I was arrested for a DUI. Though this was unfortunate, it was a blessing in disguise. I came to Sober College in June 2014 and I've been sober ever since. Sober College helped me stop drinking while I was also able to continue taking college classes. I finished the rest of my general ed. classes at Pierce College while I was still a resident, and I was accepted into Cal State University Northridge. I am forever grateful for Sober College for giving me another opportunity to be successful. Though the program is about recovery, residents are given every opportunity to explore their passions and take on responsibility. I highly recommend Sober College if a loved one is struggling with addiction but doesn't know how to stop by themselves.

Going to Sober College was the best decision I have ever made in my life. The facility, staff, accommodations, support, structure, counseling, activities, the list goes on, is all too wonderful for words. I went there seeking a change, a change in myself, my life, my outlook on life, my behavior, my coping skills and that's exactly what I found. Sober College gave me the structure and tools to lead a great life, a life beyond my wildest dreams. Not only was I able to find recovery and relief from addiction, but I was able to find a new love and passion for my life and all of those in it. I learned how to be myself, someone who I lost a long time ago and have fun again. I will be forever grateful for my time spent there. It is a very special place to me, a home away from home, and I believe that Sober College can and will help many more young adults like myself who are seeking change.

Sober College is a rehabilitation facility that helps young adults recover from addiction and trains addiction professionals from around the country through their School of Addiction Studies. They have separate rehabilitation programs for men and women, and they are located in California.

      • Family style living: Family style living allows young adults in Sober College’s rehabilitation program to participate in household responsibilities, evening meals, group activities and outings. It also means there are house managers and mentors available for support, guidance and supervision at all times.

      • Variety of addiction programs available: Sober College offers several addiction programs to help young adults with a range of addictions. Programs include drug addiction treatment, dual diagnosis treatment, inpatient treatment, residential treatment, intensive outpatient treatment and outpatient rehab. They also have programs specifically for men and for women.

      • Young adult specific: Sober College’s treatment is specifically designed for young adults ages 18-26. This focus allows patients to find support and community with their peers, who are more likely to have similar experiences and expectations surrounding their addiction than members of an older generation.

      • Earn college credit: Sober College combines college with rehabilitation, allowing residents to earn up to 15 transferable credits from the accredited Woodbury University. Courses center around aspects of recovery, while encouraging critical thinking and learning the skills they need to succeed in college and beyond.

      • Alumni program: Sober College’s alumni program exists to provide continual support to graduates by bringing them together throughout the year for fun events. It allows graduates to stay in touch with each other, giving them a community to turn to that will provide encouragement and support in a sober environment long after they leave the facility.
