I purchased these aligners over a year ago and still cannot use them. They did not fit when I received them. I have been trying to get replacement aligners since and have been met with requests to send in photos (which I have done 12 times) and still no replacement aligners. I have called and emailed and been promised to have a new impression kit sent, this has not happened since my request months ago. My last 6 emails have not been answered. I continue to pay so my credit is not affected and yet I do not have any product to show for my purchase and no response or customer service. So very disappointed!! BUYER BEWARE!!!

    Updated review: Nov. 19, 2020

Update*** I received an immediate response from the review dept. I was then referred back to the dental dept in which they listened very attentively about my experience/results and current concerns. I was offered to complete the Touch Up Aligner Program free of charge. Even though I still have reserved anxiety about possible discomfort, I was provided with alternative tips to assist during this treatment. I joined the program initially with hopes of having the results/success that others have had with company and now I am provided with another opportunity to hopefully be able to say the same.

    Original Review: Nov. 9, 2020

I was passive about my prior experience but was encouraged by family to write a review about results and experience in the hope that it may help someone else make informed decisions. I started the treatment and not too far in, I started having issues with the fitting of the aligners and cutting of my gums starting approximately into the start of month 2-6. The correspondence or response with the company was always how to just file the aligners. My teeth were not corrected during this initial time, 6 months, as previously expected even though my teeth only had crowding in the 2 upper and lower front teeth. They did set me up for re-evaluation and another visit to have new pictures taken for a further treatment course.

During this visit the tech observed too that the aligners were ill fit and stated she will place a special note. I then completed another couple months with the same issues. I lost gum tissue and now have bruised gums in the front of my mouth. Decided to no longer proceed with complaints nor requesting further treatment after I completed the second treatment without successful results once again. I ordered the retainers as they had been previously paid for. Received the retainer and it would not go in at all. I contacted them and they gave suggestions that were not appropriate for my concern and no longer received correspondence. My teeth are the same as when I started the program but my gum tissue is in worse condition. Now in a position to spend more money to either go with Invisalign or traditional braces. I have wasted such a significant amount of time and money and wish I had used the other options available.

I had braces as a teen. In my forties, I noticed my teeth begin to shift. Over several years, I kept looking for an inexpensive way not to start over with braces again. The absorbent cost for moving a tooth back into line to ensure it doesn't move others was mind boggling. Finally, Smile Direct Club to the rescue. The setup and mold was easy and on my crazy schedule. I am six weeks in and already seeing a difference for a lot less money than the $5000 I was quoted only 2 months before I found Smile Direct Club.

My husband wanted his teeth straightened so I inquired with SmileDirectClub for him. They worked with us because there were a few issues here and there. Their reps were very good. A couple of times, he had to have new aligners rebuilt. It took us a while to get to where we needed to be. But eventually, everything was straightened out and they solved our problems for us. My husband is finished with the program and he has his retainer. The cost was reasonable and he was very satisfied with the results.

I had significant crowding in both my upper and lower teeth and had a consultation with where I was told that it would be a 6-8 months for straightening. After six months I was told that my teeth weren't moving enough, and then extended my "smile journey" by another six months. At the end of 12 months, my teeth were significantly straighter.

Then the problems began. I paid for retainers, which I was told to wear 'at night'. Each night when I put my retainers in they were extremely tight. After one month I noticed significant re-crowding of my teeth. I brought the issue to SDC, who said that I should go back to wearing my retainers for 22 hours a day, like I would an aligner, until my teeth 'set'. I told them that my current retainers must have stretched, because my teeth were crowded even in the morning after wearing them all night, and requested new ones. They said that I had to pay another $99, which, begrudgingly, I did.

Fast forward another FULL year, and I am on my 5th set of retainers ($500 additional) and am forced to wear them for 22 hours a day to retain my smile. After 1 hr without retainers I have significant shifts in my teeth. I told SDC that I wanted a refund, and they offered me $80, with an original order price of $1800. They also said that if I received any refund, I could no longer order retainers. In essence, I was trapped in having to regularly order new retainers, that stretch over time, while still wearing my retainers 22 hours a day, if I wanted to retain my smile.

On one of my last calls with SDC, they told me that perhaps I should go see an orthodontist about my smile. Yea, thanks. It would have been cool if you told me that from the start, so I wouldn't have wasted my money. Given COVID, I've had a hard time making an appt at an orthodontist to explore more permanent retainers. My research shows that permanent retainers will probably cost in the $1000 range. Here's my advice: if you have anything more than mild teeth crowding, go to a real orthodontist who will build you a plan that will permanently retain your smile. What SDC does has ZERO lasting power, and will force you into massive additional payments. It's a scam.

SmileDirectClub was less expensive than if I'd go to the dentist. I've got some little issues during my treatment, but overall, I'm very happy with the result. When I finished my program, I needed refinement. But because of the pandemic, the SmileDirectClub office in Quebec City was closed so I needed to order the kit to do my imprint. It was a little bit long for SmileDirect to send me the box with the imprint. There was a problem with my profile on the website and they had difficulty charging me for the bottom imprint and it was long to process everything. I still have my left set of retainers and I'm waiting for my permanent retainer. But I'm very happy with my new smile.

I had no issues in the beginning, paid in full and received the aligners, all looked well. I had a 4 month plan with slight modifications. I lost track of timing with an aligner and they were quick to assist me getting back on track and I appreciated their help. However, on the last aligner, I emailed asking if they had looked at my final check in as two teeth were still not in the proper spot and my retainer was on its way. Heard nothing back and replied again with still no response. I emailed again today but decided that a review might result in a human contacting me. All I want is for Smile Direct to take this complaint seriously and provide me with an aligner that actually straightens the last two teeth - then send a retainer that keeps them that way.

To anyone looking at using aligners, do your research and choose wisely. Smile Direct gets in touch with you enthusiastically in the beginning and are very happy to take your money. I honestly wish I had paid the extra money to use Invisalign. Take a look at Reddit, many on there are very unhappy with Smile Direct due to aligners causing serious damage to gums and turning teeth incorrectly and damaging roots. I would be very surprised if anyone got in touch and attempted to assist me. Good luck all and seriously, pay extra and use Invisalign, wish I had.

My brother said he was using SmileDirectClub, so I looked it up. Then, I went into a drugstore somewhere on the other side of town where they took pictures and talked to me. The process and the results have been pretty good. I've had braces and this is my third time, so what they gave me does the same thing that braces did but it's more user-friendly. It's also less intrusive than having wires and having to go to the doctor all the time to get treated.

When using SmileDirectClub, you have to be motivated for the outcome. There are times when you don't want to go in the bathroom and put those things in before you go to sleep, but you got to. You also have to be dedicated to it because if you're not, it's not going to work. If you're not a person who follows rules and regularly brushes your teeth or does things that people tell you to do to be healthy, it won't work because you're in control of it.

The price from SmileDirectClub was okay and it was something that I had been playing with, so I decided to give it a shot. Their customer service was great. All of them are very helpful and very available. If you don't get an answer immediately, they at least get back to you and say that they don't know and that they will need time to figure it out.

I did not get my full order from SmileDirectClub for some reason. I should have had 15 aligners and I only had 13. I finished 13 three weeks ago and unfortunately, the top one cracked. So I have not had anything on. It was pretty easy to get ahold of SmileDirectClub. They are sending me a replacement. But unfortunately, it takes time to make them. I'm afraid that by the time I get it, they're not even gonna fit 'cause my teeth are really shifting. Up until that, it was doing great.

Some of the aligners are worn for two weeks. Some are worn for one week. Each one of the aligners fit. When you first put them on, they were tight for a couple of days. Then they got used to your teeth and they started easing up. My teeth definitely were straight. But unfortunately, as soon as you stop wearing them, they start shifting back. I was told that I would really have to have retainers, which I did get but because of the problem, they didn't fit. Other than that little thing at the end, I had absolutely no problems with SmileDirectClub. Everything was easy peasy. If you want to have your teeth straight, you're gonna have to stick with the process and it's gonna take a couple of months before you see a difference. You can't give up 'cause it does take a while for you to see any difference. But once they start straightening, they go pretty quickly.

I had my first scan in January 2020, got my aligners a couple of weeks after. First set of aligners fit okay. Second set didn't fit and was asked to go for a rescan. Did the rescan in February and got my new aligners a week later. They fit and everything was going well. Never got any email/phone calls about 90 days progress review. Called multiple times to ask what the process was for the progress review and was told to expect email with instructions. That email never came. Got emails about aging in full multiple times. I paid in full in July even though my treatment wasn't done. I noticed that I wasn't seeing any significant progress in the treatment. Called SmileDirect and was advised to do another scan. Did the scan Sept. 4th and as I write this, I am yet to receive my new aligners.

I called more than 5x and was told it takes 4-5 weeks to get new aligners followed by "How can we make you Smile today" (which always pisses me off even more knowing that they haven't been able to help me all these times). Fast forward to between Oct. 15th and now, I called multiple times and got different answers from different people (e.g. your aligners have been shipped, it takes 4-5weeks, wait for another week) and the stroke that broke the Camel's back was when I was told finally that the order for the new aligners were cancelled because 1) I still owe Smiledirect and 2) the credit card on my account expired and they couldn't charge it. (Why in the world do you want to charge my card before processing the order when I already paid in full?).

After two days of calling, I was transferred to HFD to sort out the issue. HFD record shows that I paid in full. HFD transferred me back to Smiledirect to confirm that I paid in full. SmileDirect said they would start processing my order again and ends with the scripted messages, "it would take 4-5weeks to receive your new aligners." I will spare you the rest of the details as I am frustrated as frustrated can be. Before I make my next move, besides cancelling, I would like someone from SmileDirect to contact me.

I had a gap in my teeth where if I closed my mouth, I could fit my index finger in between the back of my front teeth and the front of my bottom teeth. That kinda got corrected with SmileDirectClub's treatment. I loved everything about them - from how quickly the process was to how customer service was when I went to the clinic and got this thing done. The product comes in an amazing package. I was interested in investing and I reached out to them. I was connected to someone in the company and a lady asked a bit about my background. I never heard back but I was very impressed with the company.

I finished the first treatment which was for six months and got a new set of retainers. My treatment was done in May. Even when I had finished the treatment, my teeth weren't totally back but there was a huge improvement from where it started. So, I used the retainers until three weeks ago. When I stopped using them, my teeth started shifting back. I reached out to SmileDirect and they have been amazing with emails. The rep told me to go into their customer portal to send more pictures and my concerns. I went to the portal but I couldn't find where to upload photos. So I didn't follow up anymore.

My teeth have been in the position they were in for 30 years so the shift-back is probably a natural thing. But then, I wanted to know if I could get another set of their product to correct the little bit that has shifted back even if I had to pay a bit extra. Service at SmileDirect was amazing all the way up to the end of my treatment. There was no communication after that. It would have been great if they sent reminders on when to change my retainer or something that gives better closure. If they can do a little bit more towards the closing of the program, that would definitely make the experience more amazing. Everything else has been really good and I've been telling some of my friends about them.

SmileDirectClub has me on the four-month plan. It was painful at times. The only thing is with the plastic beam in your mouth, it makes your mouth dry. But other than that, it doesn't take away from the full experience, because you still get the results that you want for a fraction of the time and a fraction of the price. I called today to ask about my balance, and why I'm still getting charged long after contract ended. The representative told me that I had only paid $250 in total so far, and remaining balance was around $1800! I bought aligners 2 years ago and have been charged every month, sometimes even twice a month. I argued the point with the representative and she ended up transferring me to My HFD which is apparently the billing department. I sat on hold (no one answered) for 45 minutes until I finally got so frustrated I hung up. I can't believe the poor customer service as well as the illegal charges on my credit card. I'm seeking legal advice at this point.

Started my son’s journey in June Of 2020. The aligners seemed to fit properly the first two weeks, then... The aligners weeks to follow either cut his gums, popped off, fell out, or were on so tight that he couldn’t get them off to eat/brush (even with the tool provided). Fast forward to 3 weeks before the box ends I call to address my concerns and cancel, before I can do so the lady on the phone is “excited” that we are ready for our final retainers and how would I like to pay? In shock I said “Pay? Pay for what? We are nowhere near a perfect smile (less than 3 months of service) nor are we satisfied with our service.” I talk to my husband about our next steps and we decided the services were far from what was promised and we would cancel and push for a full refund.

Within those next four weeks to present day October 22, 2020, I have emailed and called countless times. STILL NO CASE MANAGER assigned to our claim. Was promised by their customer service rep that they would place a financial hold on our account until all of our issues were resolved, TWO DAYS LATER WE WERE CHARGED ANOTHER $99.00 ON 10/21/2020. All the while I am still receiving emails and text messages saying “Your retainers are on the way.” HELLO!!!! Is anyone home here?!

Every single time I asked to speak to the Solutions Department they never want to transfer me until I explain to the lower level customer service (WHO CANNOT HELP YOU) what my problem is AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN. Then finally they say “Ok, mam I have a supervisor on hold waiting to help you - transfer..." Then you hear “Your wait time is 10 minutes.” You will hear this for HOURS if you’re dumb enough to sit and wait for someone you “think” might help you - but it won’t happen, just hang up.

SmileDirect is interested in taking your money, not helping you resolve any issues and they will definitely NOT ANSWER YOUR CALL if you want your money back. At this juncture in the road we are seeking legal counsel and have filed them under fraudulent charges with our bank. Hope this helps. Please do yourself a favor and just go to an actual dentist. These people are not here to help - you are just a number that’s willing to give them your hard earned money.

When my aligners stopped fitting after only 4 trays, I reached out for resolution and to see what my options were. They said I would need to get rescanned (which was closed due to COVID). Because the aligners stopped working at tray 4 of 15 I felt I shouldn’t continue to pay until the issue was resolved. While communicating via email with the finance dept, I get a letter from a collection agency stating. I called SmileDirect to see why this happened and like always am told someone will reach out in 5-7 business days. This is ridiculous!

This is a scam. I did my at home impressions during Covid. After making a deposit and waiting six weeks for to receive the aligners they did not fit. They sent me to a store in Miami to have the impressions redone. Six weeks later I had not heard from them still and they continued to charge my card monthly. When I called they said they never received my impressions and would get them from the Miami store. I still hadn't heard from them a week later, called again, and they still hadn't received them!

At that point they called the store while I was on the line. The store in Miami told them they has deleted the impressions!! I demanded a full refund and began a month long process of constant calls, emails and chats while they continued to charge my card. They made me pay $19 in shipping to ship back everything they originally sent me and with no explanation only refunded $122 of my $487 they stole for a service I never received. I will be contacting a lawyer.

My adult son did SmileDirectClub and he had good results. He referred me for my other son and we went with them. They seemed a little bit more convenient and I thought about less invasive procedures as well. The price is pretty good too. He's wearing the retainers and it seems to be working well. He's happy too. We got what we expected. They lined them up pretty darn good. That’s all we wanted. They weren’t “bad” bad, but they needed to be a little bit straightened and it did it. We hope it stays that way. SmileDirectClub worked for my boys. They did a good job doing the aligners month after month and upgrading. My concern is how long does he have to wear those retainers.

Updated on 10/20/2020: Gave a low review a little over a week ago because of an outrageously long response time to get a replacement for one defective aligner. This was particularly galling since getting six months worth of aligners as a new customer took hardly any time at all. The company contacted me very quickly when I posted the review, but the long and the short of that exchange, is that there is no way to get replacements faster. So I’ll have waited nearly two months before I can move on with my treatment, meanwhile using aligners only meant to last a couple weeks. Awesome. Again, don’t waste your time with this company. There are other Invisalign purveyors out there that may value existing customers as much as they do new business.

Original review: Purchased aligners to correct a cross bite and received six months worth in short order. All was going fine until the week 7 set turned up with a defective lower aligner. I contacted their customer service department, which was laughable - a call center with poorly trained folks who don’t understand the product, and ordered a replacement lower aligner. It’s been over a month and apparently they didn’t order my aligner right when I called, because it’s going to take another three weeks to get a single lower aligner replacement. That’s more than twice the time it took me to receive six months worth of aligners! Meanwhile, I’m off my wear schedule and not happy with this awful business that doesn’t place correcting its mistakes for existing customers on the same level of importance as new customers. Don’t waste your time with SmileDirect.

UPDATED 02/04/2021: This is my second review of SDC and I'm done with this company. I encourage customers to believe the bad reviews. They are real. On Nov 2019 I started the treatment that should have lasted 5 months. Today, Feb 2021 I'm still in the middle of the treatment because they keep sending ill fitting aligners. It's been 15 months of disappointment. My teeth are nowhere where I wanted them and at this point SDC is not even answering my emails and phone calls. They've been contradicting themselves to cover their mistakes, they're wasting my time and I'm tired of being patient.

Three weeks ago I sent pics for the last time to get an impression kit (that they also want to charge me for!) and nobody has sent an update to that. THREE WEEKS! My account agent keeps calling me from a flagged phone number so it doesn't enter my phone, and when I call back I only get the to voicemail. I'm tired of this. I don't want anything to do with SDC. I don't want to send more pics. I don't want credit. I don't want to keep any treatment with them. I'm done with SDC. Terrible all over.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: I started the treatment with SmileDirectClub on November 2019. They promised me a perfect smile in 5 months. It sounded good and professional so I went ahead and paid all in full. The treatment started fine but without any follow up from them to see how the process was going. Fast forward to month 3, I noticed that there was a huge gap (about 3 mm) between the aligners and my teeth. I messaged the dental team with pictures and they decided to take a new scan of my teeth to make new aligners. When I got the new aligners (a month and half after the scan) they didn't fit either, the exact same gap was there. I messaged again, they ask for pics again and decided to take again another image of my teeth, this time a physical mold.

The new aligners took longer to be made and delivered and when I got them, surprise! They didn't fit AGAIN. At this point I was disappointed enough that I just wanted to finish the whole thing and ask for a refund. My account agent told me I could not get a refund since part of my teeth did move in the right position (like the other misaligned teeth weren't important) and talked me into not filing a complaint with my bank (telling me it was gonna be a burden for me because I would have to get documents here and there, which is not true). She offered $300 off and free retainers, and insisted repeatedly for me to get yet another scan because "I can assure you that this time it's gonna work". Out of tiredness and frustration I agreed to everything.

Several weeks after that, my new aligners are here and once again they have the same gap, on the same spot. I gave them a chance and use them for the whole first week and at the end of the week the gap was even bigger. Once again, I messaged the dental team and to my perplexity this time they told me the gap is perfectly normal and that I should keep using them as the teeth were eventually gonna move into place filling the gap.

Today October 14th 2020, after almost a year, I'm wearing my last set of aligners and the gap is 4 mm, I don't have the perfect smile they promised I was gonna get in 5 months, my bottom teeth have gaps where the food keeps getting caught and my upper teeth have a weird curve that makes them not be aligned with anything. I don't even understand how are they able to get the same mistake 4 times!!!

I am beyond disappointed and mad that they made me waste so much time when I could have stopped when I first noticed the gap and gotten a better company to do the job. As a side note, I ordered retainers the first week of the treatment, then a couple more times and they never processed the orders. Now that I got the retainers they offered for free they, of course, don't fit and I'm gonna have to wait again weeks to get the right ones. I absolutely do not recommend this company and will never get their services again.

I started my treatment in Nov. 2019. It started with the 3D digital scan. Everything seemed above board. About 3 months into my treatment my aligners quit fitting so I had to go in for another scan. The new aligners came and fit better. As I came to the end of my treatment, I noticed my bite was not correct, one tooth was not straight and there were noticeable spaces between my teeth. Due to the pandemic, the Smile shop had been closed and I was required to pay $29 for the impression kit. I was told I would be refunded the $29 via an Amazon gift card. I was refunded $20 of the $29. I had to do the impressions 3 different times. It was very difficult. I was sent 6 more aligners to solve my issues. I completed the treatment, sent required pictures and was told my treatment was done.

I wore my retainers for 2 weeks as instructed. I just this week was able to move to wearing my retainers just at night. I notice that when I put my aligners in at night, they are very tight. I went to my dentist to learn that my front top teeth are loose, there is large gaps between my teeth all around my mouth. Gaps are not good because food debris can rest in this spaces and cause infections and decay. I sent a message to the dental team 48 hours ago and have hear nothing back. This is not new. I have sent messages that were never answered. Customer service chat and phone service is awful too. They know nothing about dentistry and are more concerned how your day is going than you concerns. I am now faced with paying a lot of money to get a real DDS to fix my teeth while still paying SmileDirect. I am so sad and upset about what has been done to my mouth. Truly negligence.

I have had an overall bad experience with SmileDirect from week 2 when I was sent 2 bottom aligners to the moment I canceled my subscription. First I want to say that the customer service team is a joke. Smile direct keeps charging my husband's credit card after I have asked them to remove his card from my account. We used his card for the initial deposit and then asked to have it removed after that. The company started charging the correct card and everything was ok, but after complaints of my aligners falling out and not working properly I was sent the starter kit and molds to re-evaluate my teeth. They charged my husband's card for the shipping of the kits. I called, complained and asked once again to have his card removed. I was told his card was removed, and he received his refund.

That same month I finally got fed up with smile direct due to my aligners never fitting correctly and constantly cutting my gums and on June 21st 2020 I called to cancel my subscription. The rep didn't give me any instructions or anything. She just stated she will get the process started for me and that was it. Fast forward 3 months later my husband's card was charged once again for $300 for services we thought were canceled. After talking to several different reps regarding a refund and sending back all unused merchandise and being told the refund was getting processed. We were informed yesterday that we actually owe the company so they will not be issuing a refund. The same day we were told we were not getting a refund I received a refund of $100.

The refund was sent to the correct card that should have been on file and not my husband's card in which they took the money from. How does that make sense? How do you take money from a card I should not have on my account and partially refund me that money, but send it to a different card. So there is some disconnect between the company, and at this point I need to speak with the corporate office or hire legal representation. This is considered Theft. You keep taking money from a card that is not mine, and a card I asked to have removed from my account.

My tongue keeps pushing my teeth forward. I wore braces before and I had the wires inside of my teeth. But it wasn't attached properly as far back as it should have been, so the front teeth started to push in a funny direction. It was ugly and I needed to fix that. When I saw SmileDirectClud offering the product, I was happy and was willing to try it. I saw an ad on TV and I searched to find where they were. A good year and a half passed before I checked them out and see the pricing. I did not want to have the wires again in my mouth and I also didn't want it to be visible, so I was thinking of the Invisalign. They were pricey and I was also being discouraged from using that with the dentist. You have a brace of two hours per day so that made me hesitant a little bit, but I proceeded and I'm happy. So far, everything is good and I have no complaints. It fixed my smile. I personally liked the product and it’s exactly what I wanted and it served me well. I love SmileDirectClub.

SmileDirectClub's reviews were good. I took a chance because it's a lot of money no matter how much it is in comparison to other alternatives, but it was still more cost-effective. Everything is good. Today is officially my last day and it's very exciting. If I didn't have to wear a mask for the rest of my life, I'd probably be more excited about it. It was a nice thing to be able to do during this time when it was more comfortable to be working from home than in my office. I successfully went through the whole process while I've been working from home, but now it's kind of disappointing because no one will be able to see.

There are other products that they sell and they have their own line of dental supplies. They sell toothpaste, cleaning supplies, and mints that you can use. They also have toothbrushes of their own. They're all very cost-effective. They are very good products and the quality is excellent. I bought the toothbrushes for my children even because they're gentle and very effective and very inexpensive. I've been satisfied with their additional line of products as well. It's also been very easy to deal with their kit in a box and from start to finish, I've been fine. Occasionally, you get a set that was a little more on the sharp or large side for your mouth where it went into your gums. After the first couple of times, I learned on my own how to trim and file them. It took a little bit of practice to get it right, but it still worked out fine.

I've had to call them a few times and their customer service is kind of hit-or-miss. Some representatives are better than others but overall, I wasn't dissatisfied to the point of saying I would not recommend it. I'm extremely happy and I've recommended them to several people.

I'm a mommy of two and this was my mommy makeover for the year. I thought I would try something different and inexpensive. The process was very unique. It takes four to six months, and you really can't beat that over years and years of braces. You had to have the aligners on all day, and the only time you take them off is when you eat and drink water. My teeth got straightened but, unfortunately, they had kind of went back. Shifted a little bit. I sent a picture of my smile to SmileDirectClub but they had not gotten back to me. So I had to order another set of aligners even though I'm still paying off the first set that I have, which I shouldn't be paying off because they didn't work.

I cannot even express how dissatisfied and disappointed I am. I paid almost $2000 for my aligners. For the first 4 months things were great. After that my bottom aligners didn't fit. I contacted Smiledirectclub and was instructed to purchase another impression kit which when received I would be shipped new aligners. After waiting 2 weeks for a reply I never received the impression kit. After weeks of calling and emailing I was told to purchase another which I did. After months of waiting I finally was sent new aligners only for it to be the top aligners instead of the bottom I needed.

I was then told I needed to yet again purchase another impression kit. All responses take almost a week and customer service is a joke to say the least. I have paid for my aligners and have been trying to resolve a simple issue for 6 months. I paid a lot of money and after 6 months I still don't have aligners to wear. This was by far the worst experience of my life and I would definitely not recommend Smiledirectclub to absolutely anyone!

When my daughter finished her treatment, I wasn't 100% satisfied. I recast her mouth and sent pictures. They sent me more aligners to make it better and it is better. I also signed up my son who is 30. He smiles so much more now. He’s a different guy. I’m so happy. I like the gift cards too. I paid for both sets of system for my kids. It was nice ‘cause I got $200. I got $100 for referring then $100 off. That was very helpful. However, I ordered some retainers a few weeks ago for my daughter but I haven't gotten them yet. They sent me a thing for 50% off. I wanna see if they'll still send me the ones I ordered and give me the 50% off too. Overall, it was great with SmileDirect.

I paid for the impression kit a month ago and it never arrived. I tried using the chat feature on their website to see where my package was, only to see that the feature wasn't working. Emailed customer service and was told I'd hear back within 24 hours. I still haven't heard back. I called their number today, used the option to have them call me back after hearing how long the wait would be and didn't get a call back. I called customer service again, stayed on the line, and never got through to anyone. At this point I just want my money for the impression kit back.

Initially, I thought you get what you pay for. My aligners were hard to get in on several occasions and they cut my mouth quite often and needed to be cut or filed. The systems in place are lacking. I didn't always get my reminders, and there seemed to be no record so if you called no one knew where you were or what had happened in the past. I could deal with all that for the price. In the end my teeth weren't straight and my bite is off. I did upload my photos at the end and the response from the "Doctor's Review" was it looked good and I was on track. Only it was the end so obviously not the case.

I didn't contact Smile Direct right away as I didn't know if I wanted to go through the process again (I also had major surgery and most places were closed from Covid). After wearing my retainer, I realized that every night they were moving my teeth into the location that made my bite off and then throughout the day they would move back. So I submitted a review to them in response to a request that I wasn't satisfied. I received a response that if I was unsatisfied they want to assist me. I thought great that was easy. I sent more photos and went in to get a rescan. Then they sent me a note saying good news they had a new program for 2 more months and I had to pay $99 per month of the new program.

I was shocked that they wanted me to pay more money when my results didn't match what they showed me my teeth would look like. They said I didn't notify them in the 30 days so they won't cover it. I emailed them the situation reminding them that they had photos at the end of my program so it wasn't that they changed after the fact, they hadn't ever been corrected and asked if they would stand behind their product and send me the new aligners. Unfortunately they said they would not. I am not willing to give them more money with the uncertainty of their program so now I need to find someone to help me fix my bite that they messed up and won't correct. Too bad because the concept is good, but not if they aren't willing to back it up.

Where to even begin with this company? Day 1, a year ago now, I go in for my consultation. At this consultation I'm required to give my credit card info just in case I decide to join SmileDirectClub. It's not exactly cheap and the company doesn't have the greatest reputation so I spent a few days contemplating whether I want to go forward. For some reason though SmileDirectClub's decided for me, and charged my card a down payment of $700. That should have been the red flag to tell me to walk away, but at that point I was pretty much already deciding to do it so I let it slide after calling to complain about the huge mistake they made. During that phone call I got verbal confirmation that my larger than normal down payment would mean my monthly payments would be less than the advertised $80/month.

A month later, my first payment comes out. Payment is $134.98. So I call Healthcare Finance Direct which is SmileDirectClub's financing company, explain my situation, and that my payments should be much less. The representative I spoke to apologized, and said I'm absolutely right. She promised to fix it, and said my payments from here on out will be $66 or so each month. Second month, another payment of $134.98 comes out, so I call again. These phone calls all took around an hour or more, mostly spent on hold and eventually took me four months to actually get resolved. On the fourth month, the unlucky representative I got said to me "you've been paying this amount for four months, why are you just now trying to fix it?"

So four months worth of fighting and not a single thing was noted in my account, not a single thing fixed. To say I was absolutely infuriated would be a large understatement! This gentleman finally got me in contact with a manager who would actually do something for me! The manager "couldn't" get me the $66 payments I was previously promised, but she did promise me to stop my payments, and that she would manually input them for $84. Still more than the advertised $80, still made absolutely no sense, but it was the first little budge I had gotten in four months so I let it go. Stupid me (again).

The fifth month rolls around, which means the end of my treatment. At this point, I was totally unhappy with my results. Teeth were still crooked, my bite was still off, there was so much work that still needed to be done. I called SmileDirectClub again to find out where we go from here. Turns out their return policy is only valid the first 30 days of treatment. So for a 5 month plan, I only get the first month to decide if I think I'll be happy at the end. Makes sense, right? They alternatively offer me to go forward with refinements. These refinements run another $200 or so a month for however many extra months I need, they say they usually start with two. By now I was so turned off by the entire experience that I didn't exactly want to give them more money.

So instead I went to my orthodontist to see what he thought. He did a full exam, and showed me in my x-rays how inflamed my gums were from this too-quick treatment. He also showed me how much worse my bite had become since starting SmileDirectClub. Needless to say he strongly advised me to discontinue treatment immediately. It only took 3 days without aligners for my teeth to move back to where they were 5 months prior! My orthodontist says that was to be expected after moving my teeth so much in such a short period of time. Again, I called SmileDirectClub to express my concerns, and all they could do was offer to take more of my money for refinements. They absolutely refused a refund of any sort.

So a month after that my bank card that Healthcare Finance Direct had on file expired, and I admittedly did the immature thing and simply didn't update my information. I instead told them multiple times to send me to collections and that I would be happy to settle my debt with a collection agency. I didn't and still don't feel that I should owe them another cent. Now 6 months later, they have illegally updated my card information in my account. I'm guessing they just tried different dates until something worked!

They charged four payments to my account, the first for $25 (most likely to test if it would work) and three more for $134.98 each. So, I called again! After over an hour I finally got them to agree to refund all four payments to my bank card, and charge a total of $530 (my total remaining balance to Healthcare Finance Direct) to a credit card. This was last Friday, so I didn't expect the refund to show up until Monday at the earliest. It is now Wednesday, and still no refund, so I called again. The woman I spoke to today just told me that my refund is processing yes, but not to my bank card!

The refund is processing to my credit card. The card I just gave them! She also told me "that department goes home at 2pm" so she would have to call me back tomorrow. Well unfortunately I like most people work a 9-5! She of course "couldn't help me." I have been dealing with this company for over a year now, and in that year they have not gotten a single thing right. SmileDirectClub and their "financial company" Healthcare Finance Direct are the biggest scam I have ever seen. Buyers beware!!

Quick summary: Very pleased. Saved $4,200 compared to an in-person orthodontist. Everything went smooth from the start. Corrected "bucky teeth" perfectly along with some other small corrections.

Full review: It's scary to get braces online, I know, we were very skeptical and didn't decide to go with it until visiting one of their in person offices to get a laser scan. Very professional and well trained, top notch employees!

#1 - Clear aligners are not for everyone, and generally, the more messed up your teeth are, the less likely you can use aligners. Visit a dentist and pay for a professional opinion about getting clear aligners; most dentists sell them themselves. Don't mention online aligners, as you can imagine, they want to charge you $6,000 not $1,900 like SmileDirect...They have a Ferrari payment to make. After an examination, they can tell you whether or not aligners are right for the situation and you can ask questions. This is much better than spending time on molds and visits with smile direct...If your dentist doesn't think aligners are the way to go, Smile Direct probably won't either...Again, don't mention smile direct to your dentist; online braces are a huge threat to their cash cow and they may dishonestly discourage you from buying online.

#2 - Go to a smile direct store and get a laser scan. Even if it's a couple hours drive, do it. We did, the aligners fit perfectly from day one. They also have a bus that travels around, so see if/when it may be in your area.

#3 - You may to need to file the top edges of the aligners to stop them from rubbing too much. This is not a big deal; a hand finger nail file was all that was needed; a rotary tool is cheap at places like Harbor Freight and makes the job easy and fast.

#4 - You are moving your teeth; this is not a painless process! If a mosquito bite sends you to the emergency room, then you're probably better off sticking with crooked teeth. In our case, it was not "painful"; it was just an annoyance and the person had a high pain tolerance to begin with.

#5 - Brush your teeth and clean your aligners multiple times a day to prevent cavities and other problems. You are wrapping your teeth in plastic for months on end...You need to keep them clean!

7 months later, no more bucky teeth, super smile, no issues. It's now more than a year since treatment ended and all is well, teeth look great and the retainers at night are not an issue. Hope this helps and good luck with your teeth!

I started the process in April 2019. The aligners I received were not made properly, they did not even cover all my teeth. I reached out to customer service multiple times and got no response other than send pictures, which I did, and there was no followup. I went through all aligners as scheduled then came time for retainers. I requested again multiple times to have my teeth physically examined because I didn't want to pay an additional 100.00 for ill fitting retainers. Again after weeks of back and forth I was able to get the appointment scheduled. I took an additional 3 weeks to receive the retainer and I had been wearing the last aligner for almost 3 months. The retainer does not fit. The aligner is useless and the gap I was having fixed is back.

I have been reaching out to Customer Service since June-July and after assuring me for an additional charge I could extend my treatment after being remeasured they informed me this morning that I could just upload pictures and they would send aligners out. I am really uncomfortable doing this as so far in the past week I was advised by a rep to request plaster impression kit, another said they would schedule the in office appointment and now a third rep is saying they want to work off of photos. The only thing that has been consistent is the monthly payment they take from my bank. I wouldn't recommend SmileDirectClub to anyone.

Didn’t work. Wore them diligently 22 hours a day for 4 months. I did everything right. Bought the alignment mints. Bought the cleaning tablets. The actual fit of the aligners was ok but extremely inconvenient as can’t eat or drink anything but water without taking them out. Also can’t speak properly when they’re in. Didn’t noticeably change my teeth, in fact the bottom ones look slightly more crooked than when I started. Also I now can’t nibble on things as I guess it altered my teeth from fully meeting at the front. I severely regret doing this. Total waste of effort and money. All the company seems interested in is selling more stuff. I got constant email ads to buy this and that, toothbrush, whitener system, etc...

After my last week was done I got a call. I thought, "Oh, they’re checking to see how my teeth look" .... Wrong. Literally the first words out of the mouth of the person who called was “Hi I’m calling from SmileDirect. Can we charge retainers to your credit card on file ending in ****?” I politely said I will not be buying retainers for my teeth given they look no different after 4 months of having plastic in my mouth day and night. Be warned if you try it. Utter failure and waste of money for me.

For 2k I want upgrades. I want more. Here is what I want vs what I got.

    1) better customer service. (I had to call 3 separate times to get my 3D smile fixed before them even making the trays. I dont think they even looked at the 3D images the first two times. After the third call they finally fixed a simple one gap fix.)

    2) higher quality trays. (The trays come cut extra high into your gums, and cut my gums! AND they snap into place fast and hard so it pushes straight into your gums and cuts, and you'll have to do it at least once to find out how well it actually fits to adjust them, so no way around it. Smile Direct so wonderfully adds ONE emery board that is supposed to help you make adjustments to fit correctly. Lol, I had to go buy packs of sandpaper, I grabbed 320, and 120 I'm not kidding, it takes roughly an hour of sanding per tray, I have 12 sets of trays, that's 24 hours of time I will end up sanding these to make them fit. I have added photos of how much I had to take off, just not to CUT my gums.)

    3) the mouth mints. (They contain xylitol which is extremely dangerous to dogs, I have a new puppy, it's hard enough to keep my trays that I'm sanding down for an hour from him, lol. I had to get rid of the mints as I'm worried I may make a mistake in human, that's why I baby proofed my home to have the puppy, I can't have this, there's too much xylitol as its the main ingredient. They do give a warning, but why even use that? I'd rather have the vibrator thingy other brands offer. It's non toxic and I feel would work better and it might feel good. My teeth hurt, a little vibration might be soothing. I don't know. Right now I just press on my organic mints from wholefoods ;) and chucked the xylitol junk.)

    4) whitening. Give me a darn tray or something to keep my gums and lips protected from the harsh bleach. Throw the light in too! Crimany it's 2k for plastic trays and dentists to not look at your 3D smile and just let the computer program do it for you! I feel they are cheap with attention, accessories and quality. Throw the darn light in, cheapskates.

    5) it says 85$ a month. ("Less than three dollars a day!" That's how they advertised it. After getting it, it's now magically 135$ a month. I've sent multiple emails with no response. I will have to call, AGAIN to find out why and fix it lol.) Talk about babysitting the whole time. Not worth 2k.)

    6) Conclusion. It does seem to be working and moving my teeth. I'll def update with before and after results. I'm only 3 weeks in. But I'm pretty disheartened with the whole thing. If it works, I will give a slightly higher star rating, probably a 3, but the experience needs a negative.

I went in to a Smile Direct Club shop and got the 3d printing model (right before COVID hit). I was super skeptical that it would work, but after seeing all the examples they show you about their own customers, I figured they would probably be in major legal problems if those pictures were fake. So I decided to do it, and could not be happier! My teeth were fixed exactly within their 7 month timeframe, and my teeth were not "mild" or "light" or "easy" task. My teeth looked like they came out of the part where Jafar is dressed up as that homeless guy in Aladin. My teeth look amazing and the whole experience has been spot on! All the aligners have fit, granted there were times when I really had to push a bit to get them to fit, but they did fit, and they sometimes hurt a little (to be expected) but much less than braces. I loved the Smile Direct experience and would 100% recommend it to folks (which I do all the time with my beautiful new smile. :D)

Everything was going well then aligner #13 did not fit at all. They asked me to try #14, but same result. It would not fit, buckled and tore. I asked for assistance on 14 August. Today is 4 September and they still can't figure it out. I keep getting emails from different departments, one says upload photos...and I do. Later they ask again for photos, but another department says they have the photos and will make an evaluation. Next they say they will send me an impression kit to determine if I need new aligners. They have asked, and I have answered my correct address several times.

Now they say, they can't get the system to send me an impression kit....but if they did it would take 5-7 weeks to get me new aligners at additional costs. I spent time, money and followed all instructions and I have nothing to show for it. I have asked for a refund, guess what that's another department who will contact me at some future date. STAY CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY! Go elsewhere.

I'm only 2 weeks in as far as the aligners go. So I can't really say if they're working. It feels like my smile is changing but there aren't any visible results yet. My issue is with the cost and payment process. I was given an estimated quote of around $2500 for a years worth of aligners. After the 3d imaging and review by an orthodontist, they said I only needed 4 months worth of aligners. But, guess what! Even though my correction process requires less product and less time, the price was still the same. I went ahead with it because $85 a month was doable for me.

When I went to make a payment on my newly created account there was no link to submit a payment. I opened a chat and the representative said they could take payments. I clearly requested to make a payment of $170, the representative confirmed it. But when I checked my account $255 was taken. It literally took seconds for the money to leave my account. When I contacted Smiledirect to refund the $85, they said it would take 2 to 10 days to refund!!! When you make a payment, be sure the representative processes the right amount.

I went for my initial appointment and it was basically a sales pitch. I described what I wanted to accomplish with my teeth and they assured me all would be taken care of and that my insurance would cover it, and that if there are any issues they have a great return policy. I received my smile preview before the aligners arrived and wasn't completely happy with how my smile would turn out. I contacted them right away to ask about refund policies. It took them so long to answer me and in the meantime I had sent my receipt off to my insurance in case I decided to go ahead with it anyway. My insurance will not cover these aligners and so I contacted them multiple times again. No one got back to me at all, even when I replied to previous emails.

I finally found the info I needed to do the return, spent a bunch of money to return them with their specific method, and sent an email to them with the tracking info. A week later I got a response saying they would refund me accordingly when they receive the box. However, later that day my package was returned to me with notes on it saying that the company was unable to be contacted and so the delivery was refused. I contacted them right away about this and didn't hear back. I contacted them again and still haven't heard back. So now I have $2500 of aligners sitting in a box in my kitchen that I paid extra to send to them and it ended up back with me. I'm very disappointed in their service and need to find some way of getting my money refunded.

But, boy, was I wrong! I went to Smile Direct in St. Petersburg, FL in September 2019. Almost one year ago to the day. The first three months went great. I could feel my teeth shifting and by the third month, I started to see an improvement in my teeth. I was very optimistic and excited. I did my 90 day check-in and everything was fine. The following week, Month 4, Week 2 is when the problems began. The aligners did not fit right. There were gaps between the aligners and my teeth. I reached out to support. They told me to use the chewies. I was already doing that. They told me to wear them an extra week. Two weeks went by with no improvement.

I ended up wearing Month 4, Week 2 for two months, until they broke. I moved onto the next set hoping my teeth would catch up to the next set. I reached out to support repeatedly. They told me to continue wearing the aligners. They never followed up with me to see how I was progressing. The only communication I received was a canned response to my written concern. I never spoke to a human being after my initial onsite screening last September.

One set of aligners broke. I reached out looking for a replacement set. They told me to just move on to the next set. I wore that set two months because the gap was so large, I couldn’t get them to fit over my teeth. By the Month 5, Week 3 / 4, I was wearing each set no less than a month. My bottom teeth no longer meet with my top teeth. I cannot chew anything with the front 8 teeth. The teeth have become fragile and painful. I am concerned that wearing the aligners for as long as I have jeopardized the health of my teeth. Having had a total of 3 cavities in my life of over 50 years, I started this process with healthy teeth, to which my dentist can confirm.

I have now given up entirely on getting a decent smile from these aligners. My teeth are almost as crooked as they were on the day I started this journey, but worse. I’m so disappointed as the loss of time, effort, and money that I literally threw out the window. If you are reading this and considering buying from Smile Direct, do not do it unless your teeth are already pretty straight. Mine were not, and they never once said this would likely not work for me. They might be really good for people who had braces when they were young and just need a touch-up to straighten a little crowding. But for someone looking to use this as their first and only set of braces, run away.

I honestly did not think that my teeth could get worse. I thought, even if it helped a little, it would be an improvement. How wrong I was! They do not align. I cannot use my teeth. And my once strong healthy teeth are not weak and fragile. I’m embarrassed to tell anyone that I fell for this internet scam with no support – medical or customer. You literally will never speak to a human no matter how much you plead.

They offer free in-person impressions, but I am a two-hour drive away from their nearest store - so if my impressions don't work they already have my money and I have to figure out when I have time for a four-hour commute? No thank you. I communicated to SmileDirect via email that I wasn't going to be able to send my kit back with payment at this time, for the reasons above, but thanks anyway, and they have called me no less than four times a day for weeks. If I had continued wearing them, I’ll probably lose or damage my teeth. Even though one tooth straightened, one tooth looks so out of place, like I need to have a tooth or some teeth removed for my teeth to be straight. I don’t recommend it. Always see a dentist or orthodontist.

I was supposed to be on a 5 month plan because my teeth were relatively straight, it has been 1.5 years and my teeth aren't straight. I've gone back in twice to get rescanned. After this last round with undesirable results, I emailed and got no return response. I came to terms with the fact that my teeth weren't going to be straight but I continued to wear my last set of aligners to keep them where they were.

I got a phone call from SDC that I assumed was about my email but instead it was offering to take $100 of my bill if I paid in full. I explained to her that my teeth weren't straight and I wasn't getting a call back. She emailed me information on how to be reevaluated. I took the pictures and sent them off and was told that I had waited too long. To continue straightening my teeth it would cost me an additional $100 per month. I responded to this email to say that I would not be paying an additional fee since I had contacted SDC with no response. I asked what I was supposed to do because it is required to order a retainer but I can't because the retainers are based on your teeth being corrected. AGAIN I got no response. I'm at a loss on what to do now. The last set of aligners won't last forever but if I order a retainer it won't fit. I've spent $2000 and 1.5 wearing these awful retainers for what?? So frustrating!!

I ordered my son's aligners and had no misconception about how long they would take to get here. The problem began with shipping. They sent the aligners via UPS. UPS dropped them off at USPS for final delivery. Five days after they were transferred to USPS they were returned. I started calling the call center and contacting them through the chat not on their website. The people are horribly unhelpful. Every person I talked to refused to give me an actual account rep. It’s impossible to talk to anyone who has the power to help. I got a different answer from every person I talked to.

The aligners finally get back to the Smiledirect warehouse In TN. I received no communication. I used the chat bot on the website to find out what’s going on. The guys gave me a USPS tracking number and says they have no control over how things are shipped, I can’t talk to anyone who works in shipping and I can’t speak to a sales team, I can’t get ahold of an actual smiledirect anyone. It’s all call centers who say their hands are tied and too bad. So they SAY they’re shipping my son's aligners back via USPS instead of UPS. USPS lost them the first time. And now we’re going to have to wait two more weeks to get them. I mostly frustrated that I can’t talk to a sales rep or someone in upper management. The only way to make a complaint is through Consumer Affairs or BBB. This has been an awful experience. And by the other reviews it’s just going to get worse.

I began this adventure in March 2020. My four month plan was up in July. I placed my order for the retainers on June 10, to have the retainers by July. So that order never went through, no one contacted me. In July I called to see when the retainers were. The online chat rep just wanted my credit number, I ended that chat. I called, provided my credit card number and did not receive a confirmation email. I online chatted again, only to be told they show no contact of a phone call.

At this point I’m concerned and upset. I ended that chat and called back. I had to escalate to a team lead/advance rep, due to it being Saturday after hours no management was available. He advised he did not see that I spoke with anyone or show my credit card number being added to my account. I was traveling and my cc has now been compromised. I’m heated!!! I transferred money and shut my card down. The rep placed my order for the retainers at no cost. Later I received the confirmation email and guess what my credit card last four was on that confirmation; which was concerning that they didn’t see the call, no cc provided to the account, but now it’s there. I had to wear my last set of aligners for five weeks due no communication about payment in June.

And yet it gets better. I told my mother about the company seeing as she wanted to maintain her smile also. I did the email and text invite to her. She scheduled her appointment and went. The rep at the molding provided her a better code to save money, except I wouldn’t receive the gift card for the referral. Fine no problem. My mother did her deposit, a day later someone called her to ask about her experience and finalize billing. Her total had changed from the total she was provided after paying her deposit. She ended that call and called me. We three way called the company and got the runaround on a price. At that time my mother canceled the order and requested her deposit be returned. That was five weeks ago.

So today my mother called me and sent me the emails she’s been bombarded with from the company. None of the emails has the same price, nor a referral bonus for me, nothing. I chatted again trying to resolve my mother’s concerns to ensure she’s not overpaying. See I paid my account in one time payment so there was no payment plan for me and my mother wanted the same. The chat rep today had every excuse in the world on what happened with the referral bonus and the discount applied to my mother’s account. We are going to call on three way again to listen to the price this time. This is a company to be very cautious with. Having traditional braces 20 years ago the price is a deal, but the company has very questionable tactics.

I DO NOT recommend doing business with them. It's truly unprofessional and you're going to end up spending hours on the phone with them, pulling your hair out and stressing. From the very beginning, it's been a painful process dealing with them. They sent our "box" which apparently had not even been checked. In a course of 12 weeks of trays, only the first week was correct. All the others were completely MIXED up. We spent hours trying to put all the trays in the right order. They were supposed to send a new box with all trays in the correct weeks, but NEVER did. They ended up offering a $100 credit. When we get to the end of the 12 wks, the retainer did not arrive on time. It was weeks late & when it did arrive it DIDN'T fit.

We called again, another hour on the phone. We got a new scan, 2 wks later we get another set of retainers, still don't fit and they're trays, not retainers. Another hour on the phone. Turns out they NEVER did anything with the new scan, just sent an old set of trays. 2 wks & the scans just sat there. After another hour of dealing with them, they're FINALLY going to make the CORRECT retainers, w/ the scan and the right material. However, it'll be ANOTHER 5-6 wks!! According to them they have "absolutely no way to expedite" the order even though it was their 3rd error. Another $100 credit. Wow, thanks. Believe me $200 credit will NOT make up for the stress of dealing with this business.

I had one pair that did not fit at all and I had to drive to a different town to go in for a consultation and get a new set of aligners that would actually fit on my mouth. I wore the old set until the sent the new ones a few weeks later. A couple aligners had harsh edges that dig into my gums. With every little thing I had off about any retainers I didn’t find the point in trying to contact customer service. I would probably turned a 6-ish month plan into a year or so. I got the aligners originally to have a gap closed with my front two teeth. The gap did improve but there still remains a small gap. Now I’ve had my retainers for a while now. Which I use and fit ok. Slightly loose on the left side.

Let's talk about results! In my experience Smile Direct Club was not able to deliver the results that they promised me. I was under 8 months night plan, followed my plan to the T, and my teeth did not shift as it was promised to me. That's when things went down. I went for the re-evaluation, and SDC sent me my new aligners. That's when I noticed that without it being discussed with me, my plan was changed to standard 22 hr/day plan. I called and expressed my concern, and I was informed that it was a mistake from SDC end, and they can talk to my doctor to see if I can continue with the night plan, but it will probably take longer to achieve the results.

I asked SDC to let me know how much longer the night plan will take before switching me, because depending on the length, I may decide to go with the standard plan. Next, without any discussion with me AGAIN, my plan switched to night plan, and I got informed that I have to use the aligner for additional 6 months (too long for me). This mess was about two weeks ago. I immediately called and asked them to update my dashboard to the standard plan (at that point I was already using the standard aligners that were sent to me, and I didn't want to continue wearing night aligners for 6 more months). After two weeks, and multiple phone calls, my dashboard still hasn't been updated, and there's no way for me to track my progress or get notifications when it's time to change my aligners.

How can you promise results in 8 months, and then ask your customer to continue for an additional 6 months? That's almost double the time, and I didn't even have a severe case! Even my dentist told me at the beginning that their plan didn't seem to be realistic, but I still decided to give it a shot! I wish I had saved myself some headache, spent a little bit more money, and had gone to a real orthodontist!!!

The aligners I received does not fit very well from the beginning. Called and talked their customer service, I was told that it will fit eventually, if I don't like it I can return even after 30 days trial. I did try... but my teeth didn't move the way as the aligners designed and didn't fit at all at 3rd one. After a couple of email exchanges, two months later, finally I was allowed to return the aligners so I returned it as instructed, but I was not refunded, so I disputed with my credit card issuer. A few days after I received an email from Smile Direct Club that if I withdraw my dispute, I will get refund, I refused, no reply since then. Two more months later, my credit card issuer contacted me that Smile Direct says they did not approved my return. Wow that's very surprising. I am disputing again and sending all of the email conversations as evidence to credit card issuer and BBB. What a very dishonest business.

I have written several emails to customer service about canceling my order, and then returning, because they sent my order out anyways, to no avail. I received responses back that I would hear from a customer service representative within 24 hrs, and never did -- at all. I even included my previous message to show I'd been making efforts to reach out that were ignored. I also tried calling. The first time I called I was hung up on after I said I was calling about a return, and the next day I called and was never connected. I don't have the time to be wasting desperately trying to make a return. I have never had to deal with such incredibly poor customer service or had such a difficult time canceling my order/making a return. Be wary. This is the first review I have ever written, as I have never had an experience with any other company like this before. Very disappointed.

I was very excited about using Smile Direct Club. I followed the treatment just as instructed and at the end of my treatment my teeth did not change much. They talked me into trying them again. They sent me two new sets, they had so much extra plastic they didn’t fit in my mouth properly., They had to rescan twice. Months later I finally received my third set and only made it a month before realized once again they had too much plastic around the gum line. They instructed me to cut them myself and file them down. Not only should I not have to do that, it didn’t work.

After months of developing mouth sores constantly, my teeth are so sensitive now that I have pain every day. I’ve contacted the company several times for a refund. But they never return calls and due to COVID it’s taken months to get through. Finally today after I reached out again about my negative experience and treatment that did not work. I received an email stating I had 30 days to get a refund. And that they would not be offering me any money back. This company doesn’t care about your health or dental needs. It’s one of the worst decisions I’ve made. My teeth look exactly the same but now with constant pain. Go the traditional route and just do braces.

I began my SDC journey in January 2020. When I first began using my aligners I was having A LOT of discomfort and I reached out to SDC multiple times regarding it. They told me to continue using my aligners. They did not advise stopping nor seeing a doctor, so I trusted them and continued wearing the aligners despite the great discomfort. I started having severe gum bleeding and pain. I contacted SDC multiple times regarding my symptoms, yet they told me to continue wearing my aligners. Trusting them again, I kept using my aligners. My gums were bleeding like CRAZY and I had severe pain, which I have never had prior to starting the SDC aligners.

A couple of my teeth were getting loose and one fell out while removing my aligners. I had to visit my dentist this time. After the visit, he stated that the aligners have caused generalized Stage II with localized Stage III, Grade B peridontitis. I needed full-mouth subgingival scaling and root planing. I also need to have a few of my teeth extracted due to severe infection. Progressing with these aligners can worsen my teeth and I should have stopped a while ago. Afterwards, I contacted SDC regarding all of this (again multiple times) and have been told that I would only receive a refund for the aligners that I did not use. It feels like it was their plan from the beginning to get me to use the aligners to avoid giving me a refund. If I were told in the beginning to stop using the aligners, it would have saved my teeth. I feel so ignored and disappointed by this company.

Every two weeks they would send me notices on my aligners, but never contacted me after I completed the sets except to try and sell me retainers. Since doing this my front teeth do not meet and I find it hard to bite food. I am also now biting the side of my tongue. I wish I would never have used them and saved my money!

I am so disappointed and frustrated in this company and their lack of integrity when an error happens on their end. Mistakes happen, and people have respect if a company, especially a big one, can actually admit they made a mistake and do the right thing. But Smile Direct is not that company. One of my aligners wouldn’t fit, and it cracked when I put it in. I contacted them and was reevaluated shortly into my treatment. It was determined I needed new aligners, No problem. I went in to be rescanned, continuing to wear the previous aligners until the new ones arrived. But they never sent did... no one seems to know why.

I contacted them multiple times and I was told they were coming. Their system said the lab had my order. They would be shipped ‘any day’. I wore the same set of aligners for over 3 months; until they were cracked and had holes in them, and my mouth was bleeding, so I finally asked for a refund...because there was nothing else I could do. I did absolutely everything expected of me. They didn't deliver on their end, literally. I requested a refund, I did not WANT to cancel but I literally had no more aligners to wear!! Now they want to prorate my refund for the 6 sets of aligners I used. Really?? I didn't pay to have 6 aligners worth of treatment!? They say I requested cancellation. That's a bunch of legal-ese, trying to make it sound like I gave up. They didn’t send me my new aligners. I was frustrated, in pain and fed up. I was not ok with starting over.

I am not a client whining because it was too uncomfortable. I am not a client whining that I didn’t get perfect teeth. This is about a client having reasonable expectation that a company would actually send the product I paid for, and then not getting it. I expect a full refund, not a prorated one, for 6 aligners. That is NOT what I paid for. I have emailed, texted, called, sat on hold, been cut off, called back, left messages, emailed more. I have contacted my "advanced care" team, which is just more of the same. My husband and I started this journey together back in December, with plans of new smiles for our 30th wedding anniversary August 1. His teeth look great, he's on his retainer treatment. My treatment basically stopped on March 9, and they expect me to pay for my treatment to that point. :( So for anyone considering Smile Direct, don't do it. There are competitors out there. Check out your options. Please do not support this company.

My experience with SDC was sketchy to say the least. I was on a 4 month plan to close a minor gap and fix an overbite. During the treatment, some of my aligners fit perfectly some didn’t (there were a few aligners that I could remove with the flick of my tongue. That’s how bad some fit!). I wore the aligners religiously. On my last two aligners, I was faced with a predicament. The top and bottom aligners couldn’t fit on my teeth AT ALL! I reached out to them and they sent me an impression kit for impressions.

Afterwards, I had new aligners made for an extra 2 month plan. The aligners made from the impression kit fit terrible on my teeth. Halfway through my 2 month plan, it didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that my gap wasn’t going to close. The aligners were just sitting on my teeth so my gap stopped closing. Long story short, I took my lose with SDC and decided to go with what I had originally planned to go with: Invisalign. My Invisalign orthodontist took her time to point out issues. My gap wasn’t closing because one of my front row teeth was slightly slanted at an angle that was going to make gap closure difficult to achieve. It took an orthodontist to see this. Also, I had a deep bite not an overbite as SDC has stated. Nevertheless, If you’re thinking about SDC, by all means go with it BUT I would caution. I thought the issue with my teeth was minor so I went with SDC and look where it got me; money and time wasted. Goodluck!

I finished my 6-month plan in May and I'm disappointed in the results. I didn't get the change I was hoping for based on what I saw from others. The positive change is the improved dental hygiene as I floss and brush more frequently. But I'm no longer able to chew properly on the left side of my mouth. I got a reevaluation 3 months into the plan which required me to go back to the office for another scan since my progress wasn't on track. I was hopeful that things would improve but sadly not. I tried getting a final reevaluation at the end of my plan but that led to a lot of back and forth of trying to track whether they'd sent me the impression kit, which I eventually didn't receive. It's very difficult to deal with their customer service agents on an ongoing issue because you keep having to explain your issue to a different agent.

I'm now stuck wearing the same set of aligners I've had since May while waiting for my retainers (I have been patient about delays caused by the current pandemic). In hindsight I should've just gone about this the traditional way/veneers and arranged an installment payment plan with an orthodontist. I wish SmileDirect could've been more honest that maybe I wasn't the right candidate for their plan.

We concluded the consultation NOT to proceed until I give the directive to proceed, Ms ** was present during this review. However, I got charged for the procedure as apparently I had signed a pre-authorisation form which to my knowledge, I wasn't made aware that was a pre-authorisation form, and that it was a review of payment plans available and it was done before the doctor came in.

On 17 July 2020, I spoke with Marcus K from SDC Customer Care who offered to process my refund should my orthodontist determines this treatment with SDC is unsuitable. He promised to send a follow up email. Making good on his promise, he did send an email but it was a link to show me my smile progress over 4 months instead! I call to make sure that this is true and they tell me I need to purchase the aligners in addition to the kit before receiving the free teeth whitening kit. Even after showing them a screenshot of the coupon that had absolutely no mention of an additional purchase, they said no. I contacted them and they said they would send me another impression kit and we would try again under warranty. I got the impression kit in January, sent it back. Never heard from them again. I called in April and they said they had made a "mistake" but would fix it and ship my aligners. Called again June 10 (no communication from them of any kind during this time), the guy said to log on and look at my status online. Tried logging on and couldn't without paying again. It would not let me go to the next step without paying. He said wait 72 hours that they would fix it but that my program was approved and I would receive my new aligners in 5 to 6 weeks. Nothing.

Got an email June 26 stating "we have received your impressions". I called again and she said that she was very sorry but they initiated the wrong program as a new customer and they had to have the IT department go into the system and fix it. Then I get to start at the beginning again getting it approved in 5 to 7 business days then they will place the orders for my aligners which is 5 to 6 weeks. So we are looking mid to late August on an order I started in December. I asked the customer service rep I spoke with today to please take ownership of contacting me back instead of me being on hold over and over and going over the same items. The first set of reviews - I am dubious about. I only read the 1 star reviews after I started to have problems with this products. Not just here but other places too. NBC has done an episode on them, NY Times has and also The Verge. DO NOT DO THIS. Here's my experience and I would never do it again in a million years.

I will grant them - they have savvy branding and a well set up follow up on emails and texts for treatments. It is nice they have a chat line on the website. They look splashy and hip and their ads of hundreds of happy customers are well done. It seems easy, right? I chose the faster 22 hr a day aligner treatment. I have an overlapping front tooth on top and some that are starting to tilt a little. On bottom I have some front ones beginning to twist in. It sounded like this was a great answer.

It was NOT. I was nervous when I received the box to begin with - because there was a little plastic 'remover' tool. I need a tool?? That seemed a little scary. I could get them on and have a lot of trouble taking them off? Then, there is an emery board file. Huh? This is - and you absolutely will need it, trust me - so you can file down the sharp edges of the aligners. You are not recommended to start with that but just 'you might need this'... You WILL need it. I wish I had known to start filing them down from the get go. The first try on was scary - they are really really tight. Ok, they are mean to move your teeth, I can roll with that. I needed the tool to remove them for sure. A LOT of pressure on your teeth.

I started then wearing after I practiced a few times on and off. I was SO uncomfortable - it was like someone was smashing my face with their fist. My sinuses felt massive amounts of pressure, as did my nose. I didn't have any idea that would be uncomfortable. As purported in their literature - you will have drooling from the saliva that is responding to a foreign object in the mouth. A lot of saliva. They say it will go away. It only minimized, didn't go away after the first 24 hrs. As purported, you 'may have' a lisp - I did, which did. I am an actor - and also a life coach - this was really a bad side effect and a problem for my working life. I couldn't even really talk to someone on the phone with them on, I had to take them off.

After the end of that first day - my tongue hurt a lot. Like someone had scraped IT all day long with the little purple emery board they sent!?? The top of it was stinging from it hitting the sharp edge of the top retainer when I talked. The sides of it had abrasions on it - from hitting the sharp edges of both the bottom and the top aligners! My tongue was traumatized.

I chatted with a "dental team assistant". I am dubious that this person is an actual Dental Assistant. They were nice enough, sure. I was suggested to stop wearing the aligners until my tongue healed and to use the little purple emery board to file the edges. It took three days for my tongue to go back to normal at least. After I stopped wearing them for about an hour - my top of tongue that was stinging felt like after ** starts to wear off. That means - the nerves were actually starting to get damaged and numb - and I was beginning to get feeling back in my tongue... yikes!

Also, a little scary. I had bruises on the underside of my tongue that looked really frightening. Then, it was clear - the edges of the aligners that are made on a 3D printer I am assuming - are really abrasive and sharp. I thought - why would ANYONE make a product like this? Read other reviews about abrasions to the mouth! Why wouldn't they simply take the time to polish out those edges for the customers? If you want to know what the edges feel like - get a plastic coffee top cover or a soda plastic top cover - run your finger back and forth over the edges - then imagine that being in your mouth all day long. My lips on the bottom of my mouth in front also abraised. So - fair enough - still willing to 'file down the edges' as instructed and give it a go.

Bottom line - you can't file them down - and my husband is a Maker, he knows how to do things like this - enough. Not enough to STOP it from scraping your mouth up a great deal. You can 'trim them' as suggested, and file and file all you want. It still was not enough to keep my mouth from being damaged on the inside a lot.

Finally, I heard from another customer service person who - when I asked could I just wear them at night? for more ease and less tongue movement with talking - said I had only been approved for the 22 hr wear, and go back to wearing them 22 hrs a day. The 10 hours at nighttime was not an option. Why not? It would just mean my progress would be a lot slower. I didn't care, as long as I was OUT OF PAIN! So, I was being guided by a customer service person of theirs - just keep wearing them. Whaaaa?

Let's talk about the pain of the aligners that was not about my tongue or mouth... good gravy??!! Putting them on was intense. Taking them off was intense. They loosen up a little by the end of a week. But - a lot of my face was in such intense pressure while wearing - as if a vise grip was squeezing my whole mouth. It was so very uncomfortable!!!! And, actually - I had no idea until I stopped wearing them - the kind of effect that had on my nervous system! It was intense. The amount of relief I got when I decided after two weeks I had enough - was overwhelming. My body finally went out of fight or flight. I couldn't have done six months of that, I can't imagine how - even without all the mouth abrasions.

It may not be this way for someone who has very small needs of how their teeth need to move. Man - it was like torture for me. I felt like I was in a head vise prison. I wept when I went to bed the first night because I wasn't in all that pain for the first time in two weeks. If you read the legal info for the reasons that dentists and orthodontists want this company to be unable to operate - it is because the teeth are being 'moved too fast'. I can certainly see why now, and attest to that.

I don't like that they have bought off many people to keep them from negative reviews, or to keep them from suing. I don't like that one dentist has over a 100 cases a day or something like that which they must review. But MAINLY, I don't like that they have a product which creates so much damage for so many - and are not being responsible about it = so they can continue to make a blessed buck. It is not RIGHT to do this process without the HANDS ON - not virtual - care of a knowledgeable dentist. For all the reasons stated above.

A dentist you saw could file down the edges with a professional care and equipment. They could see if they didn't fit properly, they could see if your teeth were being moved too fast or the bit became incorrect. Virtual Dentistry - has NO place in society. Warby Parker and glasses are cool - they aren't gonna damage your face. This dentistry with Smile Direct Aligners have literally hurt hundreds of people - and those are only the ones we know about. Thank GOD I stopped!!!! Getting a refund is no peach - either. At first they had me just wanting to keep using the product and asked me if I would. Umm, no thanks.

Then, took a while to get an answer from support team. Then, took another while to actually get them to agree to refund me. THEN, they sent me the legal agreement - so I wouldn't sue them BUT that NDA is there in paragraph 6 where you agree not to ever say anything not nice about them. Don't sign that. You don't have to. They owe you the refund, period. Then, they sent the same legal agreement, even though I asked them to take out the NDA part - hoping I would sign it again. You see where they are coming from? Such a paradigm of ridiculousness. There are many people who have had it far worse than I have - as you will read reviews here and other places. Broken teeth, changed bites, needs for crowns from cracked teeth! OY.

Bottom line - their 'save your money from going to a real dentist to straighten teeth' platform - is both dangerous and unethical. Don't do it my friend, don't do it.

There are other ways. I am still waiting on my refund weeks later. Fortunately I did my financing through CareCredit - NOT theirs or I would be as screwed as many other people have been. Carecredit will go to bat for me, and they are.

It is weeks since I stopped using them. My tongue STILL is damaged and not the same as it was, it tingles and the nerves are not right. My face took about a week to stop feeling like someone punched me in it. AND, my teeth now have a weird - they are hitting wrong when I talk in front that I never had before??!! I will see a real dentist in order to actually get my teeth straightened PROPERLY at some point. I will just pay the higher amount to have dental safety. BOTTOM LINE = This product is NOT safe. #smiledirectclub #smiledirectclubreviews #customerservicefail #dentalaligners

I am Canadian but I winter in Florida. I ordered the aligners in February 2020 and that’s where I received them; at my Florida winter address. I found the aligners to be quite painful they cut my mouth and tongue even though I filed them the way SmileDirect instructed. So I have the added expense of buying orthodontic wax and using it every single day to protect my tongue and the sides of my mouth from the aligners. Then I ordered my retainers in May 2020 from my Canadian address when there was three weeks left in my treatment plan as per the SmileDirectClub instructions. I included my Canadian address to which the retainers were to be shipped. Smile direct did not notify me that they were not going to ship the retainers to my Canadian address nor did they confirm that they were shipping the retainers to my Florida address.

I checked the UPS tracking information only to find that the retainers had been delivered to my Florida address on May 26. I called customer service at the smile direct club and there was nothing that they could do for me with regards to getting my retainers to me because they do not ship to an address that is different than the original address on the account. I was never informed of this when I first ordered my aligners. I have been told by SmileDirect customer service that a refund for the retainers is being processed. However I am very unsatisfied as of now I have no retainers to maintain the position of my teeth once the treatment plan ends on Friday June 12, 2020.

So frustrated. I went through their whole initial process, and followed all the directions. I sent my kit in in time, along with the photos. And they sent me an email saying it was all accepted. Well, a couple days later they email and text me saying, "Oh actually, we need you to redo everything for another $29." No thanks! I’ll pass. I’m just frustrated I wasted so much time already.

I gave them a credit card ahead of time to hold a spot for my appointment. I gave them an HSA card to pay for the aligners and they charged my other credit card, which they had no authorization to do. I spent hours on the phone with them trying to correct this, and they ended up saying they would not correct the transaction because I already received my aligners. I wasn't unwilling to pay them, I wanted them to use the credit card I authorized. Terrible customer service.

Tried cancelling after my third failed treatment plan. My bottom teeth were mildly crowded and the aligners did not straighten them. My top teeth were always straight, but during my second treatment plan a gap was created in my top teeth. I was told to stop wearing the aligners immediately as this was not intended. The same gap appeared in my top teeth during third treatment, this time my emails went unanswered so I stopped wearing the top aligners until I could reach someone. I continued wearing my bottom aligners and completed treatment, but teeth didn’t improve.

After months of unanswered emails and lies I was told I won’t get a refund because I stopped treatment. This was told to me by the same dentist that told me to discontinue use for the exact same thing during round two of treatment. I explained previously many times that I reached out for advice but no one would respond. I requested cancellation because my bottom teeth didn’t straighten, but they’re using the fact that the top aligners damaged my top teeth as a way to say I breached contract. Best part is they are trying to bullying me into signing an agreement that says it’s my fault this didn’t work or they won’t refund me for a $99 retainer purchase that I never received. Honestly the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. It’s actually comical how ridiculous it is. They literally just ignore you and pretend no one ever received emails.

Updated on 03/08/2021: This is bad business and I highly recommend seeking treatment from your dentist and not online. Like many, I ordered the molding kit at a discounted price, and locked in my rate of almost $2000 plus retainers. Not only did it take 2 months for the kit to arrive, it took an additional 2-3 months for the aligners to arrive. For my treatment, I was told I only needed about 4 months worth of treatment. They assigned my case to a dentist who is over 60 miles away from me. This made it difficult to go in and check up. Not to mention the dental office never returned my calls either.

Nonetheless, I started using the aligners. They were uncomfortable but I shaved them down and proceeded to wear them. They seemed to be working and I took pictures of progress to be sure, but then the top aligners stopped fitting. I called and asked if someone could assist me with the top aligners not fitting properly, and no one ever returned my help ticket. I spoke with live chat, and on the phone, and no one got back to me. Fine, I kept on using the bottom aligners.

Well treatment is finished, or half finished since I couldn't use the top aligners, and my retainers were never sent. I called and after much going back and forth, they finally tell me I must start over due to my teeth shifting. I had to do a whole new kit, and get more aligners. Fine, I start all over and once again the top aligners don't fit. They approved all my photos and molds, so why don't they fit? I complete treatment with just the bottom aligners since that is my problem area, and again NO retainers. I tried getting a hold of anyone to help, and no one answered my requests. I asked for a refund and the rep transferred me to a voice mail that no one ever listens to. Worst service ever, worst product, biggest rip off of your life. Buyer Beware.

Original Review: A month ago I placed an order. I received the kit, turned in my photos, got approved, and never had anything again. At one time they had a live chat option where I asked someone when I would receive it. They said wait up to 4 weeks to process. I can no longer find the live chat, and refuse to wait on hold another hour. I contacted them through email and received no response. The reviews on their website are truly fluffed up.

I’m very happy with my results! I’m now on 5.5 months of my 6 month plan and notice a drastic difference. However my teeth were not horrible before - just minor crowding and my front two teeth were pushed outward. This really is a much cheaper alternative however keep in mind you get what you pay for. The biggest downfall is that you DON'T see an orthodontist the entire duration of treatment. As opposed to getting braces or Invisalign where you see one every time you change your trays. However you do have to send a picture halfway through your treatment to your assigned “virtual orthodontist” which I thought is pretty interesting. You get the entire 6 month treatment/set of aligners in one big box and it’s up to YOU to be disciplined and wear them 22 hours a day, and change them weekly as directed.

From the reviews, most people have poor ratings because the trays did not fit. There were MANY times when I started new trays where I thought it would not go in either. However I think it’s supposed to be like that. I mean, it is getting tighter every time you use a new tray, so it wouldn’t make sense for it to just slide in easily. You have to really push it through, and I find putting it on by one section first helps. Not sure if that makes sense, but for example putting it on from the left side first then making your way to the right side. Rather than just popping the whole thing in at once (which is almost impossible!). Get it through one side first then work your way around.

There were weeks where I would be diligent and wear my aligners 22 hours a day, and then when I changed trays it wasn’t difficult to get in because my teeth had shifted to fit into the next trays. Then some weeks I would forget and only wear it 10-18 hours a day and the next set felt really tight and really hard to get in. So you MUST remember to be diligent and wear them as instructed. It will also ache when it first goes in after really having to force it through. But my friends who had braces said they felt discomfort too. Your teeth are shifting after all. It just aches a bit as your teeth adjusts to the tightness. No pain though. And by day 2 I had no more discomfort...until you switch trays again! Luckily it’s only 6 months.

Also when I called into customer service to order an extra aligner remover, and then once again to order my retainer, they were very professional, very nice! Zero problems with customer service. The only issue is that it takes a long time for them to come in (4-5 weeks). So expect delays. Another complaint is that the aligners really pushed my gums back. Like I basically have a receding gum line now... it’s not bad... but I mean, they definitely look receded. I had to switch my toothbrush to an extremely soft bristle as to not further damage my gyms. I hope they will go back to normal once I am done with the aligners. The receding gums has not caused any issues so far.

My last and final suggestion that I REALLY wish I had known prior to ordering the entire aligner box, is to request TWO additional aligner remover stick. Don’t. Forget. This. Trust me, do yourself a favour and order two extras right when you order your box. As mentioned, the aligners are REALLY tight, so it’s almost impossible to remove them by hand.

You have to use the aligner remover stick. And so many times I would forget the stick at home, and starve at work or when going out because I couldn’t get the aligners off. Pretty sure I lost weight because of this (you can’t eat with aligners in). And because it took 5 weeks for the remover to come in, it was a huge pain having to remember to bring that remover everywhere I go! I remember before leaving the house, I would remind myself, “keys, phone, wallet... aligner stick” LOL. Then when they came in, I kept one at home, in my bag, and one at work. So much easier that way! All in all, I am very impressed with the results and you just need to remember this is a budget option. Don’t expect you’re going to get 5 star service. You get all the aligners and the rest is in your hands. Good luck!

I was first promised a better smile in 16 weeks, which sounded great however the reality is a total of 12 plus months (and 2 sets of 2 month refinements) and not the smile they originally promised me at the beginning. Teeth are still crooked. The refinements were also sent to the wrong address twice and I had to wait 3 months to get a set. At the end of this 12 plus months of trying without success to get what I was originally promised I deicide that this simply was not going to work and instead of getting my 3rd set of refinements I contacted the company asking for a refund. I let them know I was unsatisfied with the whole experience and simply wanted my money back.

I got an email after 4 emails to them over several months that they were sending me an impression kit and charged my visa for it. Charge was not authorized and impressions kit was not approved. Visa fraud?? Shady company. The company passes you around and takes forever to get back to you. I just want my money back and a set of retainers that I paid for sent to me. I want to keep my teeth in their current position until I can get in to an orthodontist. Please do not use them. Check out the Better Business Bureau if you need more proof!!

As a previous patient of braces, I had high expectations. Initially, things were going well for me until I got to the fourth month and I noticed that my teeth were not adjusting as quickly as forecasted. Immediately, I notified SDC and was asked to go back to the Smile Center. Of course, none of this was an expedited timeframe. After that appointment, it took a few days for the orthodontist with SDC to recalibrate my treatment plan. It took another six weeks for the new aligners to be shipped.

Now, here is where I lost my patience. During this time, I was told to continue to wear the last retainer. We are now on week seven or eight. I was scheduled to receive my delivery on Monday. FedEx lies and says that no one was available to sign for the package, which is an outright lie as this is a post office. I waited for them to attempt to redeliver for two days, which they had not. I tried to called FedEx on my own to see if I could pick it up, and because I am not the sender, I cannot make any changes. Thus, I called SDC.

I explained the issue and requested that someone call them so I can stop being inconvenienced playing these games with FedEx, get the package and go on about my day. The sales rep, Luis, had the audacity to tell me, "Well, it's going pretty quickly," and basically told me I need to wait for FedEx to deliver the package. What really burned my biscuit is when I asked for a supervisor, he sat there and basically refused to transfer me to a supervision. He stated I have a resolution, which if this was the case, I wouldn't be on the phone with him.

I requested four times to speak to someone else. Instead the conversation continued to escalate. I eventually hung up and sent an email to them notifying them of their unprofessional conduct. As a paying customer, you do NOT get the right to tell me what a satisfactory outcome is or is not. My request was for us to collaborate to correct the issue since I could not do so on my own. You do not get the right to tell me what has been a "fast" turnaround, because it has not been that either. I am paying $2,000 out of pocket and I would appreciate your cooperation.

The people that work at this location are so nice! Five stars for them. But the reality is that this product did not work for me and because the product didn't work, I'm giving one star. I tried the aligners for TWO YEARS and after not achieving the desired result after three cycles of aligners, I have given up. My teeth would shift slightly, but not enough to permanently stay in place. And after you complete treatment and you no longer wear them, your teeth immediately shift back. On top of that, the aligner material itself is cheap and breaks easily compared to Invisalign. I know this, because 15 years ago I used Invisalign and it actually worked. But many years later, after not wearing a retainer, my teeth shifted back. Smile Direct Club club is a cheap imitation and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The aligners often don't fit properly and they crack very very easily.

To add insult to injury, I requested a refund and I'm only getting 60% back. Smile Direct Club requested photos of my teeth and they feel that there was some improvement so they can't approve the full amount. I sent photos to compare my teeth from two years ago to today, showcasing that they are exactly the same but Kristy the account manager disagreed. What can I do but accept that. Thanks for doing something, I guess. The bottom line is don't waste your money. Traditional braces are the way to go. Or Invisalign. You get what you pay for in life and smile direct club certainly is no exception.

They say they received them on the 11th ok...”WAIT 2-10 business days” then “WAIT 10-14 business days” then “WAIT ANOTHER 3-5 business days” then after 2 weeks they say, ”Oh no one processed your refund. Wait another 2-10 business days”...I’ve been billed since the aligners been sent back. I’ve called Olivia M the finance manager over 10x. I’ve emailed her. I was told on May 1st she was going to call. STILL NOTHING. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. I call May 2nd. I was told “wait 2-10 MORE BUSINESS DAYS.” WHERE'S THE OWNERS WHO'S RUNNING THIS COMPANY. They have many many complaints and class action lawsuits.

Although there were issues from the beginning such as my appointment time being double booked, the promotion discount I was offered was never given, and the aligners came in reversed with the last set first, these things can be overlooked if the system actually worked. Be aware that bad reviews from their own site are blocked making it appear that they have 4.5 and 5 star reviews. I know this because I gave a 1 star review that was not posted.

The risk with these aligners is that they change your bite and misalign other parts of your teeth. While it is straightening the top the bottom will be misaligned. Your bite will be changed causing your facial structure to also change. You can be left with a worse situation than you started as was in my case. Now there are more reviews online and professional opinions that explain how this system lacks the capability of correcting your smile. The dentist is nonexistent at Smile Direct Club and you will always be dealing with an incompetent call center. Pay for a professional to get the work done right.

I've had my aligners for about three months now, and I have to say they are working, as I see results, but honestly, they're not for everyone. My experience was pretty good; I went to a Smile Direct Club in Morristown, NJ and had the scan of my current smile. Seriously easy and painless, their computer showed your current smile and your smile to be. They tell you how long you need to wear the aligners to achieve the end-date smile and some basic information.

Received my package in a few weeks (They don't bill your card until they're ready to ship) and it was then that I found out that to reach your goal, the aligners must be worn for 22 hours. Okay, I could have asked that question at the time of my visit, but I didn't. You also need to take them out every time you eat, or drink anything other than cool water. After eating you must floss and brush. Honestly, not a bad personal hygiene policy, but super inconvenient. Obviously if you're a cook/chef and need to taste food as you cook, this is not a great option. Likewise on the weekends if you go out to dinner and maybe want to hang out with friends for drinks afterwards, this is simply not part of the "plan". I found that making dinner at home was difficult, because you may want to taste things as you go along, and really can't if you stick to the "plan". Realistically, wearing them for 22 hours a day is not feasible for most people.

Secondly, when you first pop a new pair in, they hurt. You expect that there will be some degree of mild pain simply by design. They are created to stretch or push your teeth into a more aligned position, and you know you'll feel pressure, but what you're not expecting is the sharpness of the plastic sticking out from your gums. They provide an emory board to try and help with this, but I went out and bought a $35 Dremel from Lowe's to file down all the spots that irritate your tongue. My first set had my tongue raw and swollen, and rubbing an emory board or nail file on them does little to bring the situation under control. If you sprung for the aligners, you can spring for a cheap Dremel (which will make life so much easier...trust me).

Lastly, these things are tough to clean! They provide some cleaning tablets, which you can order more of through the website or by the daily emails coming your way from Smile Direct. I sprung for another $35.00 accessory from Amazon...an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. Nice and simple; I just add a capful of mouthwash and two more of cool water and press start. You'd be surprise how much fine "stuff" comes floating off the aligners, stuff I don't want going back into my mouth! This method is especially good for the two-week aligners. The material on these weeks is much thicker than than the one week sets, and you can only imagine what you can't brush off after the tenth through fourteenth day of use (yikes).

All in all I think they're working, but do not be fooled by the ads showing how nice and easy they are. There's a level of commitment you'll need to apply for good results. Smile Direct does have a warranty, but you must abide by the 22 hour a day rule, or the warranty is void. Oh, did I forget to mention that when you're done with the course or aligners, for the rest of your life you'll need to wear a retainer overnight? All that for $99.00 every six months. The website claims that if you do not do this, your teeth will move back into the original configuration, the one you paid to change in the first place. If you've decided to move forward, good for you, it really has been working for me and I'm at the 1/2 way point. I think you'll be happy with the results, just take my advice and spring for the Dremel at the very least, you won't regret it.

Stay away, it's not worth the headache. I have seen an orthodontist, they said Invisalign will fix my issues. However Smile Direct Club after sending me my aligners, I also saw the 3d prediction of what my smile would look like. They upload it a day or two after the product has already shipped. Which means if you are smart and actually take a look at the prediction and realize they will leave you with a bigger dental problem than its worth, you will still have to wait till it arrives and then play phone tag just to get information about how to return and get a refund. By the way I never received a call not once. I requested a refund March 25, I have received neither my money or a call. They conduct shady business.

I have multiple emails and screenshots of chat messages asking for help and all I'm told is to wait to get a call. When I finally received shipping information I sent it out right away although they confirmed they received it I still haven't gotten my money back. They do not care about your dental health and they are perfectly happy with leaving you with bigger dental problems later but will say you have straight teeth. This is the problem most ppl will run into because the company has a timeframe to make the most out of the money you are paying. They will cut corners and apply an excruciating amount of pressure on your teeth in order to make it happen. Stay away.

DO NOT USE SMILEDIRECT. GO TO A REAL ORTHODONTIST. I used smile direct for 5 months. Over those five months, the aligners caused my gums to recede severely, (yes I filed them down, it happened regardless) even to the point of being a candidate for gum graft surgery, as my local dentist brought to my attention.

Smile Direct tried to say the recession was "pre-existing" when pre-aligners, the photos show that is simply not true. My gums were completely healthy and normal. In addition to that, the aligners have ruined my bite, so now my teeth only touch on the right side when I bite down, causing me jaw pain in my left side. These are issues that can arise with any aligner treatment, the only difference is, Smile Direct doesn't assist or pay for any of their clients to get these issues taken care of, like a real orthodontist would.

As a result, I called to try and cancel my treatment, and order retainers so I could at least keep my top teeth in place. The agent either LIED to me or was misinformed, and said I could cancel/start the return process and still get retainers made AND he scheduled an appointment with a local smile shop branch to get my retainers made, and sent me the refund/return information email, and I began the return process and sent back the box with all the aligners. However because of the Virus outbreak, I found out the same day of the appt. that the shop was closed, so I called to find out if they could send me an impression kit.

A different agent tells me now, that NO it's not possible to order retainers now, since I cancelled my service with smile direct. Why the hell didn't the first agent tell me that before I cancelled? The reason I had to rush to cancel was to avoid being charged the monthly fee from HealthCare finance direct... for aligners I no longer use!!!! This company does not CARE about scamming people and causing bigger issues with patients teeth. They can not get away with this.

Now I have to go to an Invisalign Ortho to correct the issues with my bite and because I had to stop wearing my lower aligners, and I don't any retainers, my teeth have all moved back to where they were on the bottom. Thankfully I kept the last set of my top aligners, and that's what I'm using as a retainer. This is an AWFUL. Company that will cause you more pain, headaches, and money wasted. Go to a REAL orthodontist.

I was (am) on the nighttime plan. The smile shop that did my scan was great, but once they had my money, all customer service failed. The first set of aligners was defective, so they had me switch into the second set early. Since I'm on the nighttime plan, I wear my aligners for 10 hours at night, but their reminders tell me to wear them all day, my packages of aligners say I'm on a 5 month plan even though there are obviously enough aligners for a 10 month plan, etc. Nothing was consistent. I made them aware, but the errors keep coming.

A sticker on my aligners after 90 days said the company would be sending me instructions on how to send in my 90 day photos. They didn't, so I had to call, 3 times, to get the instructions to send in the photos. Although I sent them in, there was no response. After 6 months of wearing them (10 month plan) I started getting a gap between my two front teeth. I sent photos and many days later I got a note back they they would make new aligners, I had to start the process over. I wonder if they had actually reviewed the 90 day photos, if they would have caught this issue sooner before I wasted 6 months.

One would think that a current customer, stuck in the middle of the treatment plan, would take priority over new customers, but no. It has been made clear to me that I have to wait behind all new customers to get my new aligners, which will take 5-7 weeks once they start. It's been over 3 weeks since I reported the issue, and they can't even confirm if they've received my impression kit back (it's been over a week since the tracking information shows they have arrived at the lab.) In the meantime, I have a gap between my teeth and have to wear the same aligners for the next 5-7 weeks (or more?) while I wait for the new ones to arrive.

I called in 3 different days last week, each time I was escalated to the resolution team, and each time I got 3 different answers. I finally asked for a refund. Since I have to start over after 6 months, I might as well start over with a better company. I shouldn't have been surprised when I was told that the team who does refunds will have to call me back, in 7 to 10 business days. So, I've got botched teeth, no new aligners, no refund. I am so sad that I've wasted 6 months trying to correct my smile with SmileDirectClub.

I was very pleased with my results up until month 6. It all went downhill from there. In the final stages of the liners, what happened is the liners started creating millimeter gaps between teeth in four different areas. In addition to this, I have experienced gum recession on multiple teeth because of the tight fit of the liners on my gums.

After multiple check ins and my assigned dentist telling me I was on track, I was indeed not on track and this has led me to believe that no one was even truly checking and looking at my scans. After the 6th month, they had me extend my liners two additional months. What I don’t understand is the fact that I was “on track” all the way through and suddenly at the end, when I started experiencing issues, all of a sudden I have to extend to now correct the problems.

I followed the plan and directives to a T but wanted to get a second opinion as I just felt that my teeth looked worse than when I began. My current dentist immediately advised me to STOP using the liners as they had caused extreme damage. I followed the directives of my dentist as he was a trusted source, and was informed I was in pain because of the spaces caused from the liners.

That being said, I called to get my money as now I have continued discomfort, gum recession AND my bite is off daily and it feels my teeth are chipping at each other. The BEST that was offered to me was $200 - which is laughable as they didn’t even see the referral note to an orthodontist from my dentist to provide a consult with next steps in fixing all the damage that was done. Still trying to get my money as I literally paid $2000 for my mouth to be screwed up. Like I said, followed all directives.

Worst company. Worst customer service. Will NEVER recommend to anyone- and indeed share my story of all the issues it has caused and how the check ins are not even being looked at. Hopefully to whomever is reading this, this was very helpful. I tried to be specific as possible. Unfortunately the damage I am having to pay at this point is going to be over $13,000 dollars. Thanks Smile Direct, the LEAST you can do is give me my money back.

I ordered these aligners and got to the 2nd week for month 6. Week 3/4 wouldn't fit. Contacted them and went to one of their sites to get a reassessment done (Nov. 5/19). I was told it would take only 3 weeks. After 2 months and repeated calls, I still didn't have them. It took 3 months before someone would tell me if they were actually being made and expect them February 5/20. I was told, I'd have to wear the new ones another 3 months. I had being wearing month 6/wk 2 since the middle of October. The bottom one was in 3 pieces which is what I kept telling them, "How could it be doing anything, when the new ones come how are they going to fit. My teeth are shifting already." They didn't arrive, like that was a surprise!

The customer service sucks sooo bad!!! No one has an answer for anything you ask, extremely frustrating! I decided to cancel on February 7, since they didn't arrive and was told I'd have to speak to an account manager. The account manager couldn't care less either. Told me I would have to send unused ones back. My treatment was only 7 months, so having used up to month 6 they expected me to still pay for postage to send it back in the big blue box. Ridiculous!!! Cost me $27. [After speaking to him again, he assured me my account would be processed and canceled. In the meantime, Health Care Finance (financing company for them) is trying to still collect monthly payments because it hasn't been cancelled. So now it’s become a financial mess because I refused to continue to pay for something I don't have and a treatment I never even received.

Smile Direct contacted me today, not to say they finally cancelled my account but say I now still owe $936! No mention of a refund! So frustrated!!! I just wish I hadn't been so desperate to straighten my teeth. I really did go against my better judgement of never entering into second party financing agreements. SO, I've wasted $1300, so much time wearing the aligners, my teeth are going back to the way they were, I have extreme emotional distress from the whole experience, I have the joy of going back and forth with both of these companies over money they don't want to return and money they still want from me! Like most people, I wanted to save money and have beautiful, straight teeth (they were strong, healthy and not too shockingly crooked when I started but it was time to do something just for me). Do not choose SmileDirectClub, the worst product and customer service EVER (the consult and sign up were great but after they got my money that is when the true gong show begins). I am now about to begin using Invisalign from my dentist because it is a 2 - 3 week wait for aligners compared to 4 - 6 (Smile Direct said 4 -6 but turned into 8 -10 weeks) and when your teeth don’t move the way they are predicted, I will not have to wait 10 - 12 weeks for replacement (yes, I waited that long for Smile Direct when they said 3 -4 weeks).

Today, I went to my smart ** dentist for a cleaning. He told me that he loves Smile Direct Club due to the fact that he ends up with a lot of their frustrated ex-customers because Smile Direct plan of treatment very rarely ends well for the customers and it is human nature to want to finish what they envisioned their end result would be. Due to his straight forward, honest nature, it did not surprise me that he admitted that if a straight forward, minor spacing was the only issue you had with your teeth (basically you just need them mildly tightened up or loosened) and you didn’t need any special stuff like teeth turning. Smile Direct might be able to provide someone with a somewhat visually positive result (not stellar and something that will likely be the cause of a new problem that you will pay for in pain and money in the future).

As I learned from my dentist, in order to turn teeth, you need to use buttons (one of many attachments that should be used) with any aligners. As it turns out, my two front lateral incisor teeth were never going to turn because they do not use buttons with their aligners. Likely, due to the fact that you actually have to go to the dentist to get them done. Oh BTW, X-rays should also be taken to make sure there is enough bone and root to facilitate movement and to make sure overbite or underbite can be corrected/addressed at the same time. If x-rays are not done before treatment, so many things get overlooked. You thought braces were expensive, multiple root canals are $$$$.

So admittedly, I have now spent $2,400 on Smile Direct and $6,600 for Invisalign. Please do not waste your time or money with Smile Direct. Smile Direct quoted 7 month treatment plan and with adjustment plan should have been 9 months, my teeth have now been sitting in a spit bath for coming on 14 months with Smile Direct knowing full well no predicted result were ever going to produce. I so wanted to believe that Smile Direct was the smart and fiscally responsible choice but all I ended up doing was wasting my time and money. I have to say they duped me, Smile Direct Club wins the most deplorable, morally corrupt invisible aligners company out there. Please don’t be deceived by them. This is the one and only time I will admit, “You get what you pay for!!!!”. Vanity is expensive. :)

To start off, SmileDirect did not produce the desired results. I went into this process knowing that people had both negative and positive things to say about this program. Frankly, I was just being overly optimistic when delving into this program. I saw what seemed to be a solid deal and a good concept, but it turned to not really work. I love the whole idea of being a market disruptor and changing a whole industry, but this concept really needs fine tuning. With more negatives than positives, Smile Direct will not receive the highest accolades in this review.

Let’s start with the positives. One thing that I did like was how easy it was to sign up and start the process. I knew many of the negative reviewers had used the at-home imprint kit, so I opted to go to the actual office. The local office had the feeling of being a somewhat reputable place. I will just say that I did not feel uncomfortable entrusting the staff. I did find it odd that the Brookfield, Wisconsin office did not have a dedicated front entrance though. It shares a door with a nail salon. Another positive was how friendly everyone was, but I still would not call it great customer service. Further in this review I will expand on this.

Unfortunately, there do happen to be more negatives than positives with this product and service. If you are reading this, you either are someone considering smile direct over traditional methods or someone that has the pleasure to respond to this over at Smile Direct.

I do want this company to work. I really do believe in the concept, but I also want to help the prospective buyer. I will just kick it off with a major downside: the overall support network. If you are the type of person who cannot go to the gym on the regular basis with just your own motivation, this program may not be the best option. If this program had more structure and checkups, it would not have many of the problems that plagues it. Furthermore, I did wear the aligners for the entire duration and the last few sets had major fitment issues, this led to the demise of this program for me. If there was a regular orthodontist checking in, this could have been mitigated. Think of it like a process with 60, 70, or even 80+ steps. If something goes wrong in step 23 or 45, the result will be skewed if it pans out at all.

In addition, When I attempted to give the program a second chance, the customer service responders (since I had about 6 of them) told me to go in for a reevaluation. One thing that was neglected to be stated was that it would cost me another $99 per month on top of the already $85/month. So, I went in for the revaluation and they emailed me the added cost a few days following. This is where the customer service slipped into sub Walmart at 2am territory. This really disappointed me to say the very least. The customer service essentially stated the warranty is 30 days and that is it. Pretty solid business practice right there if I say so myself. You can decide if that is a red flag for you or not. The emails I received back, were not the most pleasant and that brought me here. I do hope this helped you in your research. I will leave one of my favorite quotes: “Buy once, cry once.” -unknown

I think all new companies have growing pains; complaints are par for the course. For me the aligners did not work but not because they didn't work, but because I had 2 cracked crowns in need of repair when I started out. Upon further discussion with SDC, they explained to me that the aligners will not work at this time, & to send the remaining unused aligners back for a refund. I did & they refunded me my money. I have seen other people complain about not being able to get a hold of anyone at SDC, but that has never been my experience; reps for SDC were always timely in their responses; and easy to reach. I received all my answers about everything from the aligners to delivery to refunds. The aligners were originally delivered to me in 3 weeks (half the time they said it would be.)

The one concern I had was the length of time it took for the refund (30) days, but no biggie. It was handled & refunded. Also, you have 30 days from the time you receive the aligners to send them back for a refund (if you have a change of heart or are not happy.) I have read reviews & seen vids where people have mentioned SDC will refine the aligners at the end of treatment in order to get your teeth as straight as possible. I think some people expect a magic pill + have zero patience in our fast paced, over-privileged, society.

Everyone wants something yesterday & they demand perfection as if they are royalty, and when they don't get it they fall back by complaining on Social Media. My understanding is that any plastic aligners may not work on back teeth (molars) or severely crooked teeth + will not fix severe under or overbites. (Be sure you have wisdoms out for room for the teeth to move) ...& don't use plastic aligners on cracked teeth. (That's my two cents.) :-) Best Wishes.

Using SDC I saw a slight change. However, in month 5 of my 5 month treatment - that is when my issues started. The top aligner just did not fit - they were clearly too small. I sent pictures - they told me to use the "chewies" to get them to snap into place. Mind you this was not a dental professional that provided the advice. Using the "chewies" for about 5 minutes it was obvious the aligner was completely destroyed. Even if I did fit the front teeth - the molar sections were destroyed and completely flattened out.

I sent numerous emails - I only received flowery non helpful emails that did not help. Thus far, I have not heard from a dental professional. Their flawed business model puts inexperienced customer service agent to proxy for dental professionals. I regret this purchase. I now tell anyone I know that has an interests not to use SDC.

385th message to Smile Direct today: When I first began using aligners from Smile Direct I was very happy with the whitening and the progress of straightening. Since then this experience has been a complete NIGHTMARE!!! Unless you are a masochist DO NO USE!!! In November 2019 my 6 months of faithfully wearing aligners was finished but my teeth were still crooked and my bite was completely off. Smile Direct asked me three times to send pictures, I did. Smile Direct said they would be expedited, They were not.

Smile Direct asked me to come to the office and have images taken, I did. Smile Direct sent me some type of plastic glob that did not fit into my mouth. Smile Direct asked me to send more pictures, I did. Smile Direct asked me to come to the office and take more pictures again (3rd time), I did. Smile Direct told me the re-aligners would be expedited (again), they were not. Billions upon billions of calls and emails, No aligners. Teeth back to where they were originally essentially, bite completely off.

My dentist is telling me to sue and the cost to correct all of this is very high. Smile Direct told me a week ago today the aligners would be here at the end of last week, They were not. Today, March 2nd, 2020, 4 months after the re-aligners were to have been sent, Smile Direct tells me they are still in production and will be sent out on Friday, 5 more days from now, and then take five more days to get to me. Asked them to overnight, they will not. My teeth are crooked again, my bite is incredibly off and makes impossible to chew or bite down at all, my teeth are attacking and ripping up my tongue. Calling my attorney as I write this. Do not use this company for your aligners!!!!

While my experience in the beginning and during my experience with Smile Direct Club was good, order placed, received my box of aligners, followed the instructions to a T. I was actually impressed how everything was packaged and the follow up reminding me when to start my new aligners. All was well, and my teeth did get straighter. The problems came AFTER the 18 months when it was time to get an aligner. 4 months later, 5 emails and 4 phone calls, I am still waiting. Each time, getting the run around. We forgot to make them, we forgot to mail them, etc. What? Took my money the day I ordered them and I feel like I have been lied to every time I speak to someone. They are always polite but never giving a good update.

Today was my last call. Was told I would have them in 3-4 weeks as they were just ordered in the system on Feb 25, even though I ordered them online in Nov 2, 2019. I was told in early Jan they "forgot" the order and again Jan 30 and it was being put in those times. I received an email on Feb 25 that my order was placed then and today, Mar 1 2020, told I should have them in a month. Thank goodness I kept my last month's aligner but it is wearing out and my teeth are trying to shift. Will be filing complaint with BBB. Buyer beware. I'm just glad I didn't have the nightmare situation a lot of others had in the beginning. I may have to pay an orthodontist to straighten my teeth again if the aligner I receive doesn't work. With so much time passed, we will see.

The process with the aligners is only for very minor correction that does not last as I have learned from real orthodontists. My teeth impressions were molded but I only received uppers and was told they could not do lowers for my bite. I paid 2500 up front and was refunded 250 and told that was all I would get. The stories of a threatening company are real. I gave up and finished the care plan which was minimally successful. Absolutely not an option for real teeth alignment if that is what you were seeking. I had/have an overbite with space to move but their treatment failed. They will not respond to my request for more appropriate refund of fees paid for uppers and lowers and only receiving uppers. There is no professional in process evaluation, only office help which is more customer relations with only one dental tech in Nashville that has some semblance of training. Aftercare for SmileDirectClub is an absolute joke. They say you'll be evaluated by a dentist but that never happens. You take a few pictures and upload them to their server, never to hear back from them again. I ordered the retainers in the time frame that was given. This is a month before you finish your adjusters so they should have ample time to make and ship out the retainers. 3 months after placing the order the retainers STILL did not arrive. Multiple customer service complaints were placed and nothing was done to speed along the process. I was on the last adjuster the entire time.

And worst of all, the retainers that I received fit horribly to the point where I was bleeding because of the way they cut into my gums. When I contacted customer support they said they didn't believe me. After I sent them a ton of pictures they said the pictures need to be of the retainers in my mouth. THE **? I just told you idiots that they go straight into my gums. Their solution was to CUT THEM WITH SCISSORS! It all starts out with a scan of your teeth and within 10 days your entire set of aligners for the next months is shipped to you with easy instructions. If you follow them you will succeed and your teeth shift nicely to where you want them. THEN toward the end, if you order the retainers exactly when they tell you, the first representative says they ordered, but will forget to actually order them. Then they finally put in the order a week later and suddenly the shipping window goes from 3 weeks to 6+ weeks. Basically, the entire procedure of straightening your teeth was for nothing because you are not receiving your retainers to hold teeth in place on time. I have been wearing my last set of aligners, but they are broken, because they were never made to last longer than 2 weeks. I ordered 11/22/2019.

Also if you don’t buy the product right out they charge you an extra 1000$ bucks. I kid you not. Then they want you to buy some extra retainer just in case your white chiclets decide to shift back. In all fairness it may work for others. It just did not work for me. I am still paying as we speak for this product. This is just my opinion. It's a bunch of hard plastic that forces your teeth into the desired position you want your teeth placed. Is it it better than braces? I guess if you get what you desire. And the price is cheaper. This is my opinion.

To my horror and dismay I learn people had In fact been losing teeth. I was surely going to be the next if I hadn't returned them immediately. I was very let down I thought I was going to gain self confidence finally, in my smile. The return process was a monster on top of the already having the initial let down of knowing straight teeth and confidence may never be attainable in my lifetime. I used SDC for 9 months and 3 separate treatments. My initial treatment was supposed to be 5 months but I needed two refinements as the product didn’t work. I was approved for a THIRD refinement, but declined to proceed with another treatment as my doctor advised me to stop using the aligners immediately as the aligners not fitting properly had caused my gums to recede. During my check ins, I had told SDC I didn’t think my aligners were fitting properly and they told me I was wrong and to continue using them.

My account manager had told me prior to this that I can submit photos to either process a refund, or proceed with another refinement. Interestingly enough, as soon as I said I’d like to submit my photos for a refund, I was assigned a new account manager and told I needed to submit ridiculous amounts of very personal information as well as medical information. When I sent in screenshots from my account manager stating I only needed to submit a statement and photos for a refund, I was ignored. SDC has assumed no responsibility and refused to issue me a refund.

The only assistance they’ve offered is to cancel my remaining balance (which is essentially paid off). In order to do this, I’d need to sign a four page agreement waiving my rights to a refund, waiving my rights to litigation, and allows SDC to sue me for any reviews I leave or anything I post about the company. Run away, this company is a scam and a complete joke. They’ve done severe damage to a lot of mouths and it’s amazing they’re still in business. Not surprised they have so many class action lawsuits against them.

I am writing this in hopes to finally get some resolution from this company. I started my Smile journey in February with you guys and right off the bat, I ran into an issue with the company charging the wrong card and cost me almost $400 in negative fees with my bank that I had to fight for relentlessly. Finally it was resolved. 2.5 months into my treatment, I was having issues with fitting. From the start they were bothersome and causing sores from rubbing, I was having to use a Dremel drill and wax to try to make it tolerable. I was approved for refinements. At the beginning of those, I was pleased. They fit so much better than the first sets sent. No rubbing, they fit perfectly; no trimming or wax. It was perfection.

Late July I start having issues again with fitting on one side. It wouldn’t fit correctly causing comfort issues and stalling my progress. I went back into the smile shop and had scans done. I was approved for refinements again. This was in August. I start getting update emails on it being 4-6 weeks to receive them. 2 months go by and they still haven’t been shipped. I hear there are delays due to overwhelming orders. November comes and another email stating it would be another few weeks! This is unacceptable! You’re telling me it may be 4-5 months at this point and I’m supposed to wear the same aligners from M3w1 (month 3 week 1) for 4-5 months?! No! I’m paying almost $80 a month and getting nothing! No improvement, no results, nothing. So what was supposed to be a 6 month Process is now going 9-10 months and I’m getting no where.

I request to cancel at this point bc this is too much trouble at this point and I don’t even wanna risk doing this going forward anymore. On November 6th, an account manager called me named Sydney and offered $100 off of the price, I declined; she offered the free retainer and I declined bc I already had been offered that. She offered to ship the aligners out within 7-10 days! Ridiculous!!! The worst thing you can do is offer to ship something to someone in days that they’ve waited MONTHS for. She mentioned sending me an email requesting progress photos so they could get a full refund started. I never received that email. I emailed customer care the next day requesting that email. It never came. Nov 11th, I called and spoke with a representative who said they’d send it. Nope! Nothing!

I called back hours later and spoke with Juan and I told him I wasn’t hanging up until I got the email on how to get this cancellation going. He emailed me and sat on the phone until it came! It was only the return instructions though. I did what the email asked. I received an email from Sydney a few days later asking for the photos - I sent more than enough showing I haven’t had any progress since my 3rd month until this which was when I got my first refinements. That means for now 10 months -I’ve spent $800 on nothing! Everytime I call, I get crap! No one can help me! I finally got Jamal who emailed me stating I owe money, the other day who was helpful. I expressed to him that I needed someone to pull that call from nov 6th with Sydney bc she didn’t note the account at all about the full refund offer. He stated he would get the matter to an account lead and a supervisor and have the call pulled.

I receive a call yesterday (11/29) from Sydney and she states that she only offered a full refund if I allowed her to ship me the refinements out. I asked her to please help me understand bc I have been waiting MONTHS for that opportunity and I can’t after all this time get a full refund, but after they send me more product that will product that will cost us both money and if they don’t work out; THEN I can get a full refund?! How much sense does that make?! She states to me that she’ll have a supervisor call me.

Today (11/30) a gentleman called that I could barely understand just to tell me he couldn’t help me and he’d have Sydney call me again. This has been the absolute worst run around and customer service. I was emailed earlier this week stating I still owe money and never offered any credit for the refinements I was promised and didn’t receive! A multi-million dollar company can’t even try to make sure they’re doing any and all things to resolve this peacefully. Instead I’m getting the worst run around and biggest headache!
