It is the worst mattress purchase ever. My wife and I were looking to replace our old king size mattress of 10 years prior to moving into our new home. We purchased the king SF Estate Shantel FEPT from Sleepy's in January 2012. Within several months, the mattress began to sag; it's my worst mattress investment. This mattress sags on both sides, I wake up every morning with severe neck and back pains, which is unacceptable. I will be contacting Sleepy's officially in an effort to replace this horrible mattress.

Shame on you! How do you sleep at night? I am sure not on your own mattresses! I spent a mortgage payment on a California King six years ago. Why after six years am I here? Because after 30 days of having this concrete slab, I was stuck with it and I am not financially stable to throw away $2,800 to the curb. I don't have the money to purchase another. I have three mouths to feed. I have not slept a good night’s rest unless I sleep away. I actually sleep better in my kids' twin bed on occasion. I have horrible back pain and I have hip locking up. The bed is so uncomfortable and I can't even flip it. It has boards on it. On top of box springs, it's more like a platform bed.

I hate you! With all these complaints, why aren't you as a company doing anything? Are we all stupid? Are imagining such discomfort? They sent somebody to look at the bed that is clearly not going to pass the bed for replacement. They pay him for that evaluation. We should get a new channel or something to break this open. This cannot be healthy to wake up; it's so damn miserable. Getting into bed is not that cloud of comfort I envision it to be. This truly sucks!

Two years ago, I wanted to upgrade to king size furniture and mattress. We brought the highest priced ($2,500.00) mattress, S&F Estate. It has been the worst purchase I have ever made because I am forced every night to sleep in a hole. My spine is likely being damaged and I agree that someone should start a class action lawsuit. I have had Havertys come out three times and each time they measure this hole, we are one quarter of an inch away from the warranty requirements. Yet everyone at Havertys seems to know they sell these mattresses that are damaged. I have just purchased another $6,000.00 in living room furniture from Havertys. They have mentioned how they have fixed the memory foam now in newer models, but where does that leave us? Who can you make responsible? How do we get this replaced before we jump on the class action bandwagon?

I splurged and bought what I thought was a high quality Stearns & Foster bed for my daughter. I was assured it had a great warranty. Within the first year, it started to sag in the middle. She is a small teenager and only weighs 95 pounds, so I knew it wasn't normal wear. I made a warranty claim with Mattress Firm, for which they charged me $25. The mattress inspector said that the sag was only 1" and it has to be 1 and 1/2" for them to replace it. He told me to try again in a few years if it gets worse. Then I got a letter from the Mattress Firm warranty division. They said the sag wasn't bad enough and that there were stains that voided the warranty. Actually, there are no stains. I have always kept it protected with the $90 mattress protector they sold me when I bought the mattress. Bottom line, Stearns & Foster doesn't honor their warranties and makes crummy mattresses that don't last. Mattress Firm doesn't honor their warranties either.

I purchased a Stearns & Foster GS Luxury Queen mattress and box spring from Sleepy's in August of 2012. Actually, I had exchanged a Hotel Maison mattress for this more expensive S&F mattress due to the S&F brand. I did not know that Sealy had purchased S&F. I weigh approximately 260 lbs. and the mattress is sagging, probably as much as 1/2" to 3/4". I will be visiting Sleepy's today in order to see what they will do for me. If neither Sleepy’s nor S&F will back up their product, then a lawsuit is in the offing.

We purchased our first luxury firm pillow top S&F mattress in June of 2011. In the store, it offered both firmness and comfort. However, within a month, the mattress began to sag in the middle and enough that you feel like you are rolling down a hill. We called the store where we purchased the mattress, and to their credit, they replaced it with the non-pillow top version of the same mattress in April of 2012, thinking this would fix the sinking problem. We liked the new mattress for a few weeks, and then it began to sag again. We weigh 110' and 180' pounds and do not think this is normal wear! We think it was one of the worst purchases we ever made!

I purchased an S&F mattress in 2009 and it has been sagging since it was about 6 months old. I am beyond ** off. This was one of their higher-end pillow-top mattresses. I weigh 140 lbs. and can't even use it anymore. It sinks so low. When I make the bed with all the sheets, blankets and comforter, you can see it sagging, impossible to sleep like that. Someone should start a class action lawsuit against them. It is obviously them and not all of us. Oh, and by the way, there are no stains on the mattress to blame it on, because we all know a small stain can cause the entire mattress to sag, ha ha.

I purchased my Stearns & Foster bed in 2005 for approximately $2,700. Over the years, the bed started to sag considerably and is now sagging 3" from center. I called my retailer (Mattress King) and filed a claim. They approved my claim after the pictures I took/submitted and they attempted to pickup the bed. They rejected the bed because of 8-10 small stains and said the warranty was now void. I called their customer support and they said the stains were the cause of the sagging. Wow. If that's the case, Sealy makes really bad beds. I'm not done fighting because they take advantage of the consumer and build their business around unethical behavior. The leaders at Sealy are really bad people.

I purchased a king size mattress and box spring 2 years ago from Simon's Furniture in Franklin, MA. This is my 3rd S&F bed set. The mattress started to sag soon after I purchased it. I basically have an indentation where I sleep. I feel like I have to physically pull my body up out of the indentation to turn in the bed. I wake up tired and sore from head to toe. If I lay on my side, I get woken up from sleep with pain down my entire legs. I do not have these problems when I sleep elsewhere such as on vacation, or at another person's home. The person at the store where I bought the bed was not helpful at all. I was told that she has not needed to take any of these beds back. I have at least a 1" depression in the mattress. I presume that it sags at least another 2-3 inches when I am in the bed. Be careful what you purchase. I am very disappointed with the product and the response from Simon's Furniture.

I charged a small amount of the bedding on my Sears card, and they state they cannot pull up records from that long. I paid over $2,000.00 for this set and have been looking for my receipt over a year now. I cannot sleep, my back seems to roll into the sink, I had injections in my back to try to ease the pain but it didn't help. Now, I'm told that I have a curve in my spine. What some pain I'm having.

We bought a $2500 king-sized Stearns and Foster lux mattress set in February 2012. This was a big purchase for us and we wanted a mattress that would hold up for at least 10 years. Well, it's been less than a year and it is sagging so much on my side (I weigh 135 lbs.) that I was convinced the bed frame was broken. It's not the bed frame. It's like my husband and I are in two separate beds because of the hollow on my side and the huge ridge down the middle. My baby rolls into me when he's next to me on the bed. I have to use pillows for support on my back! I wish I had read these reviews before I paid so much money for a piece of crap mattress. After 2 months, I noticed that one side of the Stearns and Foster Elise King Size Mattress was sagging. I called Sears and was told that the warranty they cover is only for 30 days and was given instructions as to how to obtain warranty resolution from Stearns and Foster. It involves taking pictures and measurements and then emailing them to Sears. The instructions state that anything less than a 1.5 inch sag will not be considered a defect. What this tells me is that after spending $1,800 for a mattress that sags after 2 months, I must endure discomfort for another 0.5 inches and then hope that Stearns and Foster will honor the warranty. Opinion: After reading many complaints, Stearns and Foster and Sears are aware of this product defect. I will never buy a Stearns and Foster mattress again and will urge others to do the same. Sears should protect its reputation and cease selling Stearns and Foster.

I purchased or exchanged a Stearns and Foster "Shiela" mattress on June 22, 2012. Within a month there was a pronounced sagging at the hip level. It began to affect my back and hip. I normally sleep on my left side, but the pain is too much. When I sit on the side of the mattress, I can feel the springs and a lumpy bedding. There is no edge support and it compresses several inches when I sit on it. I weigh 170 and certainly the mattress should support that weight with no sagging. Now, my wife is beginning to find the same thing on her side of the bed. The mattress was purchased from Ashley. I will see them this week and see what they will do. This is the third mattress I have bought from them and the third that has turned out to be garbage.

I bought S&F Newgate LXF queen box/mattress. Within five to six months into it, the mattress started sagging throughout. No support. It was not the most expensive mattress that S&F sells, but that shouldn't mean the mattress should have started having problems so soon. A mattress inspector came and said it was 1/2 an inch short of being able to be considered defective. Yet, he said the box spring has already failed. I want a more satisfactory response from the manufacturer than the answer that I have already been given - to wait until the mattress is a little more defective before they come back. We purchased a $1,800.00 Stearns & Foster mattress set a little less than 2 years ago (with a 20 year warranty). What a joke. The mattress had body impressions and we were both experiencing back and neck pain, unable to sleep through the night. S&F came out and inspected the mattress and said there was nothing wrong with it. Therefore, there was no recourse we could take. Luckily, we had an awesome salesman at Haverty's who went to his manager and authorized a full refund through their store. We were able to exchange our mattress set for a Tempurpedic set (which we are very happy with). Sadly, this is the second time we tried a Stearns & Foster (blaming the bed for our problem the first time). We will never make that mistake again nor would we recommend Stearns & Foster to anyone. I purchased my 6-year-old Stearns and Foster mattress at Macy's for $4500 with their 20-year warranty, best mattress ever made, blah blah blah. It has not been right for over two years. Finally, I called for their wonderful warranty service. Tech came today. They did this scam measurement that rarely I feel reflects a problem, but guess what? - We are at 1.5 inches of sagging. Not bad considering I sag 7 inches laying on the pathetic mattress! Tech said yes, it is defective. He called Macy's from our home phone and handed the phone to me. He bolted out of the house, then the Macy rep told me there is no warranty because of a stain on the mattress in the contour. What is she talking about? There is a small stain 4ft from where his depth measurement confirmed a defective mattress 5 minutes ago. It appears to be a coffee spill but it was extremely small. I told her this stain is nowhere near where the measurement was taken, period. Then I asked her what is the contour of the bed. She does not even understand the word to explain it to me!

We purchased a brand new Stearns and Foster mattress and box spring about 7 years ago for around $1500. What a huge mistake! Since we are both heavy people, we thought we would purchase the Cadillac of the line. The salesman told us to rotate the mattress 1/4 turn every month which we did. After about 1 year, the mattress started dipping on both sides and receiving a hump in the middle. I went to the company where we bought it and would have to pay $50 to have someone come out to look at it, which we did. The warranty was not honored because we did not realize we had to have 5 support boards underneath the box spring. We only have 3 which came with the bed frame when we purchased that.

It would have been nice if the delivery men would have mentioned the fact that we do need 5 support boards for Stearns and Foster sets. It would be nice if they were carried on the truck for that purpose. Later, we found out that we can't even flip the mattress because all you see is boards on the underside. And not only that but those boards now croak and groan when you toss and turn which would wake someone up in the next room if the bedrooms were back to back. If we had any children or guests, you would not want to get intimate with your spouse for fear of waking them up. It was a real total waste of an investment. Don't waste your hard earned money.

We could not complain for 30 days, but we have 60 days to do so. We are now in the second 30 day period. I visited the store yesterday and, of course, there was a different salesperson on duty. She was a "stonewall". She told me the "Comfort Guarantee" allowed the exchange of the mattress for in the neighborhood of another $280 but that we could not exchange more than once. (That's a guarantee? We pay, get the same or another mattress and have no recourse if the second one is bad? ) She then explained the Strearns warranty, the 1 1/2 inch deep rule or it is not defective. We were told by the salesperson who sold us the bed that if we had a problem just bring it back and pointed to the "60 day" sign on the wall. He did not tell us the fine print. We trusted him.

Big mistake. He did not tell us the whole story. The long and short of it is that we have a king bed that looks awful when made up because the troughs are so obvious (in spite of the bedspread). We are not yet sure that the mattress is better than what we had before. So, a word to the wise: It is in the fine print and maximum diligence should be used when dealing with Mattress Discounters and Stearnes and Foster. Be sure you understand what's going on.

Our 6-month-old king size "firm" Stearns and Foster Mattress cost $2600.00! It has been uncomfortable and sagging in center. We have only slept on this "top of the line" mattress for about 3 months. We are getting the run around from Stearns and Foster. As in the other complaints on this site, they say the 1.5" rule of having a service tech from your retailer lay a metal rod on the bed and if a movable pin does not show a 1.5" dip in the mattress, 'Sorry, it isn't defective!'

We have other Stearns and Foster products that are older and have never had this problem before? Their recited answer is that the mattress material is made to "conform to your body to provide comfort and less movement in your sleep". Our retailer has labeled our problem as a "comfort problem", not a quality or defect problem? I am so glad this blog site exists, as everyone needs to realize what they say and what you get are clearly two different things. Sadly, I am going to have to wage some kind of battle to get what should be "quality" from Stearns and Foster.

No wonder American companies can't stay in business. Duh! Don't they know we all get on the internet and will let others know what they are doing? Thank you for this site. I plan to go through my local media, as well as the Better Business Bureau and any and all resources to get this taken care of.

On a mattress that cost multiple thousands of dollars, the excessive dipping is awful. I finally got through to a service rep who said he would have the warranty person call me back. Of course that never happened. I tried calling their main number and after waiting 35 minutes, I gave up. By the way, the teleprompt said dial 1 to leave a call back number, but when you press 1 nothing happens. If this company isn't bankrupted, it should. I don't know why any store would want to carry such inferior merchandise backed by even worse service.

We found the exact same problem with our warranty that many of the other people have had on this site. We purchased our magnificent king size Stearns and Foster as our first major bed purchase. After only a year and a half, the sagging started in the middle. We placed call after call to the warranty company and the run around began. At the end of the day, it took seven weeks for the bed to be looked at and even then the technician came with the wrong work ticket and had to reschedule for another 4 weeks out.

Our claim was denied claiming there was inadequate support given from our $4,000 Anthropology frame, with its two steel center supports that could hold up a car. The warranty company and as far as we are concerned Stearns & Foster should be ashamed of themselves. This is clearly a defect. We have purchased 9 beds for two residences from the same Sleepy’s. I will be forwarding our entire story to management of both. Not to mention, we had a 1/2" rip in a couch we bought from Bobs that probably would have taken 5 minutes for them to repair and instead they brought us a new couch 6 days later. Now that's service. Hope this helps someone avoid the same problems.

We have owned Stearns & Foster previously for 10 years and loved it. The last one we bought within a year, it had sink holes in it everywhere anyone put their body. When the bed is made up, it looks terrible, lumps and holes.

We bought our Stearns & Foster Franklin Park pillow top high-end mattress from the Mattress Firm in Overland Park, KS in February 2007. We spent $2,000.00 on this mattress. It has not been satisfactory for several years, and now it needs to be replaced. This is the worst mattress my husband and I have ever owned! I will never buy another mattress made by this company, and I would tell everyone to stay away from this company's mattresses!

In 2006, I purchased a Stearns & Foster queen pillow top from Rooms By Dalton in Georgia. The stitching on the bottom of the mattress by the corner seam is coming out. It is about 5 or 6 feet of the stitching. I am less than 110 lbs and rarely sleep on the mattress. I never sleep at the bottom where the stitching is coming out. I contacted Rooms By Dalton and was told that the stitching was not covered in the warranty unless it was around the handles.

I submitted a claim to Stearns & Foster directly and was told that they would not stand behind the stitching because it was not in the warranty. They told me to contact a local upholsterer at my own expense. We chose Stearns & Foster for its reputation of quality and am shocked at the problem that we are having. They obviously do not stand behind the quality of their products. Is there any suggestions on how we can resolve this issue? I would like the mattress repaired or replaced by Stearns & Foster.

I purchased this pillow top Stearns and Foster Mattress and box springs from Sears in Sarasota, Florida. Within one year, my mattress top had a hug indentation. I went to sears with pictures where I was told they could not handle any warranty problems and I had to contact Stearns & Foster directly.

I did and I sent pictures. I was told the sagging wasn't big enough. Now two years later, with two people in the bed, the other person rolls into the hole with me. This is ridiculous.

They don't want to honor their warranty, which is why I purchased this expensive bed in the first place. I am a student, not overweight, so money is not available to repurchase something that was defective in the first place. I have had the exact runaround as all the other complaints about this company.

What happened to honoring your word on your warranty? In America our word is who we are, right?

I need a new mattress. In fact I needed one two years ago. I might as well be sleeping in a hammock, it is the same feeling. Great to wake up every day with a hammock back ache. I’m just fed up that big companies don't have to do what they promise.

On January 25th 2010, I purchased a Stearns and Foster Mattress from Mattress Giant in Rochester, New Hampshire for $1499.00 and it started sagging within three months. When I returned to the store to advise them of the problem, I was told to sleep on the other side which is not an appropriate answer to my problem. I was then told to measure the depth of the sag and seriously, that is a joke.

The said mattress is now sitting in my garage; totally useless. As a 69-year-old person, my resources are limited and I am presently sleeping on an air mattress. I have some minor back issues and this is not conducive to a good nights sleep.

I would like the company address so that I can communicate directly with them. In the interim, I will be sure to use word of mouth to ensure that no one I know makes the same poor choice I made.

For years, I had heard of their reputation and thought I had made the best purchase available. Shame on me, I have been duped.

We bought a Stearns and Foster Mattress from Sears in North Carolina in 2006. The mattress has a 10 year guarantee. Mattresses nowadays are not what they used to be. We have had the mattress since 2006 and three years of that time, we were out of the country not sleeping on the mattress. On both sides of the mattress, it has sunk in. My husband and I are not overweight people and this should not have happened. We contacted Sears, who referred us to an outside company for handling these problems. They want pictures. The way the mattress is made prevents a picture from showing the problem. It has a puffy top which hides the problem. There is no way a picture will show the sinking of the mattress yet we live with it every day. We have written to a representative of Sears. They won't even answer the letter. This letter was written in January. They now do not deal directly with the customer and the "Satisfaction Guaranteed" slogan has gone by the wayside. I have a bad back and a problem with my left hip and sleeping in a gully makes this problem worse. Can you help?

We had the same experience with Stearns & Foster - until we insisted that they tell us exactly where these stains were, since our inspection could not find any stains. Eventually, Macy's refunded our money in full but be aware that mattresses sold in Macy's are not sold by Macy's. I would not shop there again for a mattress, especially since our sagging and broken spring complaint was supported by the inspector and another inspector was sent to make a different finding.

I purchased a King size Stearns and Foster bed for over $1,700 cash on 9/30/2008. The bed indentation was over 2 inches when inspected on 12/4/2009. My 10-year warranty says 1.5 inches is defective, but, now they say because the bed has a few minor stains, my warranty is void, although the warranty booklet they gave me at the time of purchase does not say that. I tried explaining that to the "Eileen" person who called me but she said she had her own warranty from Stearns and Foster that says stains void the warranty. I argued that this was unfair because my warranty booklet was given when I paid the $1,700 cash and should be the one that is honored. They refused and gave me a runaround prerecorded phone number to call Stearns and Foster directly that only served to redirect me back to the same number I originally called on my warranty.

Mattress was purchased from Mattress Discounters on 03/15/2006 for $2274.79. It is now sagging and causing back pain to the point that we are sleeping on the couch. They admit and have confirmed that is defective but have voided the mattress due to juice stains caused by my childs cup leaking. The mattress has a significant pillow top and surely wasnt ruined by a small amount of juice leaking. It is unacceptable that they refuse to repair or replace such an expensive mattress over a stain. We would appreciate any assistance. Thank you

On 8/30/2006, I purchased from Levitz, a Stearns & Foster Queen Size Orton Mattress at the cost of $1500. I was told that the mattress is guaranteed for 10 years. I changed the linens the other day and noticed that the seam at the footboard end of the mattress along the bottom of the mattress was coming apart. Almost a foot long of stitching has unraveled. I am a female that weighs approx. 115 lbs. and my body does not come in contact with this part of the mattress nor does anything else except the sheets. I feel that Stearns and Foster should either replace or repair the mattress being that the mattress is only 3 years old. I contacted them the other day and they told me it is not warranteed for the seam and would not do anything about it.

We purchase a Stearns & Foster king size bed & box springs with a 10-year warranty through Kaufmann's Dept. store in 6/04 and it is now 3/09, not even 5 years and the mattress has sunk in some areas to 1 1/2. We have been getting the runaround from Macy's who referred us to Sealy who makes the mattresses for Stearns and Foster and they referred us back to Stearns and Foster and now they stated it would take 10-15 weeks for answer from the inspector who gave us the incorrect information. We paid over $2000 for the set and no one seems to honor the warranty and they are swamped with claims because they have so many which means made in America is not always better.

I thought that it was our new president trying to get through to these companies about design and quality. I guess that is why when it came to purchasing new vehicles this year, we purchased 2 Hondas after closing our car lot of 15 years. We, as Americans, need to make better products and honor the warranties sold to the average consumer.

My home is kept super clean and the mattress and box spring are so clean it looks like the day we bought it... but the two places where my husband & I sleep are both sunk in and we have spent more money at the chiropractor these past few months to put our backs and necks back in place. Even the inspector who came out to look at it also stated that it really was bad because it seemed like not enough batting went in to make the mattress and you could just tell by the view.
