Defective mattress costing $4,200. Indentations and sagging up to 2 inches in less than 15 months. Causes severe back pain. Stearns and Foster will not honor their 10-year warranty even after their tech came out and assessed the situation and mattress. Measured and took pictures to submit to the company. Have talked with many representatives with company who tells us they will look into the problem, only to tell us there is nothing they can do. Why have a ten-year warranty that you do not even come close to standing behind?

I purchased a Mattress directly from Stearns & Foster 13 months ago with a ten year warranty for $3,900.00 total. The mattress has a deep depression already and is on a firm foundation platform that was approved by the delivery service. Stearns & Foster is terrible to deal with and has tried every excuse to deny my application for a warranty replacement. They are abusive, heartless and vindictive. I overcame every objection they put up after being blamed for the problem. They ARE NOT rated with the Better Business Bureau, and they will not ever, allow a customer to speak with supervisory staff. I am 76, have cancer and sleep in the bed alone.

They constantly changed their demands for photos and made me completely disassemble my bed down to the bed frame eight times causing me a great deal of physical pain and anguish. When I gave up trying to file a claim with BBB, I was directed to Temper International only to be told that I couldn't file a claim anyway because it has been over 12 months since purchase even though I have a written ten year warranty with nine years remaining. Buyer Beware, Stearns & Foster is a disreputable company and all I wanted was to be able to rest on their replacement mattress without a sagging hole in it. Oh and by the way, I weigh 225 pounds and rotate the mattress regularly but that was no help at all.

If you do not care about the integrity of your spinal column, look no further than the Stearns & Foster Reserve mattress. It's as if a cabal of sleep-deprived goblins and evil chiropractors got together in a dark basement and said, "How can we ruin the human spine… but make it luxurious and overpriced?" - and thus, the Reserve was born. This is my second Stearns & Foster mattress. The first one was, ironically, the dream mattress. It was supportive, durable, and the best sleep I'd ever had. When they stopped making it, we decided to upgrade to their alleged flagship model: The Reserve. It was a splurge, but we trusted the brand. Huge mistake.

The Reserve is a monstrosity. It's comically heavy - I am reasonably young and in good shape, but I can't even lift the corners to change the sheets. This issue is exacerbated by the lower back pain that unavoidably comes when you sleep on a mattress that offers literally zero support. It's honestly more like anti-support. It's ridiculously soft. This level of softness does not occur in nature. I believe this mattress material was concocted by the devil itself.

Since getting it, both my partner and I have developed back, shoulder, and hip problems. I now visit a chiropractor twice a week just to recover from sleeping. Anecdotally, and by way of example, I recently slept on a piece of foam on a boat for 10 days - my back pain disappeared. That should tell you everything you need to know.

To top it off, when I reached out to S&F to exchange the mattress for the firmer model, I was told we were 17 days too late. Their 90-day return policy is inflexible, unforgiving, and completely customer-hostile. No discretion, no escalation, no human consideration - just a flat "no." The policy is not a policy - it is a punishment. This mattress has cost us thousands of dollars and countless nights of pain. Stearns & Foster went from a brand I swore by to one I will warn others to avoid at all costs.

It's overpriced, overhyped, and underdelivers in every possible way. The Reserve isn't just a disappointment, it is a cautionary tale. A very expensive, sleep-deprived cautionary tale. In an effort to distance myself from the greedy, spineless monsters that run S&F, I've decided to pay it forward with some free marketing advice. Consider renaming this line of mattresses: The Scoliosis Suite by Stearns & Foster.

I would definitely not buy from this company or at least, not from a store that carries this brand. We spent over $2,500 for a king size mattress 3 years ago. It became uneven and uncomfortable around our one year anniversary with it. We tried to work through the store we bought it from, but their standards were the mattress had to be sinking 1.5" to qualify for a replacement or refund according to the warranty. Ours has sunken 1"+ in multiple places so they could do nothing about it. We contacted the company but they stated we had to work through the store. So, now we have a $2,500 mattress that is too uncomfortable to sleep on and a warranty that is not worth the paper on which it was written.

Now the mattress is lumpy again. I have been a loyal customer of Stearns and Foster mattresses. I have never had this happen before. I think the memory foam is to blame. What can I do? We purchased a Stearns & Foster adjustable queen size soft top mattress at Texas Bed Company 1714 FM 365, Nederland, TX 77627, the mattress in 4 years lost its tension in the middle such that when sleeping you roll towards the center. We called Texas Bed and they sent out inspector who said they can feel the issue and it's not right, but they said the store has to go by Stearns & Foster requirements, which means if they can't see the issue then nothing can be done. I called Stearns & Foster and they washed their hands of the problem and said to go back to the store, but the store said no, they blamed it on Stearns & Foster. Will NEVER buy another S&F mattress, nor will I deal with the Texas Bed store who ADMITS there is a problem but will do NOTHING!!

I truly regret purchasing a Stearns & Foster mattress—and even more so, three of them. What began as a loyal customer experience has now become a complete consumer nightmare. After less than six months, one of the mattresses developed a deep dip in the middle. I submitted a warranty claim, followed all requested procedures, and even offered to pay out of pocket for an in-person inspection. Instead, I was met with dismissive responses, shifting standards, and a final denial that blamed the issue on my non–Stearns & Foster foundation—even though the mattress tag itself says it can be used “with or without a foundation.”

At no point during purchase was I told that using another high-end, well-maintained platform or box spring would void the warranty. That’s a critical omission for something that costs thousands of dollars and is marketed as a luxury product. I didn’t initially ask for a refund—I just wanted an exchange. But the way I was treated made it clear: this company’s priority is avoiding responsibility, not customer satisfaction. The only time I received a prompt response was after I escalated to a refund request. Their solution? A 50% off coupon to buy another one of their mattresses. No thanks.

If I could return all three, I would. I’ve since seen similar stories in other reviews and on the BBB, and I can now confirm from personal experience: their warranty is not worth the paper it’s written on, and their customer service feels designed to wear you down until you give up. I’ve taken further action, but I’m posting this review so that others can make an informed decision before investing in a mattress that might not be backed when it counts.

Their customer service is terrible and they’re scam artists. STAY AWAY! We returned a bed to them under their 90-day sleep trial because it was clearly defective with a huge drop happening in the middle, but they said they couldn’t waive the $175 + tax return fee. We noticed they never issued any refund at all after weeks, so we called them and after the typical long hold time they said they don’t have a record of the item being returned and there’s nothing they could do. Unbelievable! Never buying a bed from these crooks again.

We are beyond disappointed with our mattress purchase and furious at the "bait and switch" that we experienced. After over an hour of testing out a Lux Estate Firm mattress at a local store, my partner excitedly purchased our 2nd Stearns and Foster mattress. What was delivered was completely different from our store experience. The mattress was sagging in the middle, too soft, and yet I had instant hip pain, and my partner had terrible back pain the entire first week we tried it. Plus, we both kept rolling into the middle like you do with a really old mattress. I called the customer service department, thinking they had sent the wrong one by mistake, but it was confirmed we supposedly had what we had tested in the store. Then we went online and found numerous other complaints identical to our own. It was like the store models were an entirely different mattress.

In all honesty, I've slept better on a camp cot. Customer service took back the terrible mattress but still charged the return fee despite being told it was nothing like the mattress we had tried out. My son's $100 Amazon mattress is more comfortable, and we feel gaslit and tricked. I will NEVER do business with this company again.

The worst customer service I have ever experienced, avoid purchasing from them at all costs. I ordered a mattress, and less than a week later it went on sale. I requested for them to honor the new promotional price, and they refused. I requested to cancel the order so I could repurchase, and they said a cancellation would be processed as a return (even though no mattress had been delivered or even shipped yet). They told me a return incurs a fee of $175. I did the return, and instead they withheld $192. I asked for the rest of the refund, and they said the additional $17 were taxes on the return fee. This is the most absurd experience, and each customer service agent was as unhelpful as the last. It’s such a shame, I hope others can avoid this poor business.

We bought a Lux Estate Hybrid Lakelot King 13" Mattress & base on 9/4/17 (7 1/2 years old) and by the time we added the Protector, we were up to $2,628. We turned it around once to try to see if we could get better support but the sag followed us and we did not gain much. So I think I will talk to someone about what has to be done, get sent to the Warranty Dept and learn all about what we have to do to submit a claim. I gave up when I got to the part where we would have to move the mattress off the base and send them a picture of the base along with all the other pictures. Do you realize just how heavy a king mattress is? We cannot move it without hurting ourselves - we are both 80+. Oh yeah, the base we bought from them was on the receipt. We will just go and start looking for a new mattress but not a Stearns & Foster.

Purchased Sterns Foster King Lux Estate Luxury memory mattress May "24. By October '24 the sagging became obvious at over 2". This is our second Stearns and Foster mattress. The first one we purchased a queen size Euro plush back in 2009, and it is now in our guest bedroom. It still feels nice and comfortable just like the day we bought it. This new one must be built completely different because we are not heavy people. My husband is 5'10" at 160lb and I'm 5'6" at 135lb. For the mattress to show sagging so early in its life would mean that it's not going to age well at all. When we noticed the sagging at first, we didn't quite know what is going on, but as the time went on, we realized that the foam portion is not recovering back, and the indention became obvious. It's now over 2" and at night, it feels like your body just naturally wants to roll right into that indented spot.

Warranty took over 40 days to approve. They are charging $175 fee for handling and expect me to purchase a new mattress from them, pay for it in full, and then they will refund once they receive the original one back. Seems unreasonable and should just be a simple swap under warranty. Way too many caveats that leave for Sterns Foster to tackle on additional charges just like the undisclosed handling fee of $175. Warranty is warranty, and should not cost a customer anything, especially when the mattress is only 6-month-old. I'm more concerned about the quality issue of this brand in general considering that this is a $4,000 retail priced mattress and it's experiencing sagging from a less than average weight in such a short time. I would not purchase this brand mattress again and would steer any potential customer to consider other brands.

I returned it once and a furniture tech is coming next week for this replacement Mattress I purchased from Mattress Firm. I think the first one they delivered was a plush and not medium. I sank so deep in it at night I could not crawl out while half asleep and repositioning myself. The medium is also sagging in the night and I end up slanted in the morning. If you move around you need to wake up to get out of the indent. This did not happen in the store when I tested it. I wake up with back pain every morning. On February 12, 2023, my husband and I picked out the Stearns and Foster Lux Estate 16 inch Medium Euro Pillow Top Mattress in a Queen Size after testing it out at The Mattress Firm in Dale City, VA. We purchased and paid for the mattress in full that day. It was scheduled to be delivered on February 18. When the mattress arrived, the driver alerted me that the factory plastic had been ripped off the bottom of the mattress during transit, and it had gotten soiled. He also said it looked like something heavy had been placed on the mattress.

I immediately notified the salesperson at the Dale City, Virginia Mattress Firm store. She told me to accept delivery, but to note the problems with the driver, and she would arrange for a replacement, which I did. The replacement was to be delivered the next week. However, the night before, the warehouse called me and said the second mattress had been damaged in delivery from the manufacturer and could not be delivered. I again coordinated with the salespeople at the Mattress Firm to schedule another delivery for March 1. Well, this time the mattress was sealed in the original factory plastic, but it had about a quarter to half dollar size yellow/brown stain on the top, so I refused the mattress.

After deciding to request a full refund, a different salesman convinced me to try at least one last time and gave me an additional discount. Well, last night, March 8, the mattress was delivered. It had the worst stitching job of any mattress I have ever seen and it had two small snags/holes on the top with stuffing exposed. I showed the driver, and he took pictures. I noted this on the delivery paperwork (digitally) as well. I should have refused shipment, but at about 7:45 to 8 pm I was exhausted and did not think clearly and was just tired of the whole process. The driver left.

So after looking more closely at the mattress and seeing that the stitching job was bad in places on all sides and that the snags were worse than I first realized, I decided to call The Mattress Firm this morning, March 9, and request a full refund. Well, both salespeople who were familiar with the situation were off today, so I talked to a third man, who apologized but was not helpful at all. He suggested I call back tomorrow and request the return/refund. I am planning on doing that.

I have also reached out to two people at the HQ for Sealy/Stearns Foster/Tempurpedic and informed them that in my opinion they have a major quality control issue at the factory that needs corporate level attention. Although The Mattress Firm salespeople were nice and tried to be helpful, the bottom line is that I have a second or third rate mattress that I need to return that I paid a big price for, and I have now lost faith and confidence in the Stearns and Foster brand.

Although I use a mattress pad, I am afraid that if I keep it that the stitching will unravel around the whole top of the mattress and the company will not honor the warranty, and I will be stuck with it. Plus at this price point, I am actually angry that it was made so poorly and delivered to a customer in that condition. I will see if corporate at Stearns and Foster gets back to me to offer any assistance or show any concern. I am not holding my breath but will update this review if they do. I did take a video and numerous pictures to document all of the issues shortly after the mattress was delivered. It should not be this hard to purchase a mattress and receive a first quality product when the product is regularly priced at over $3000. It is very disappointing and frustrating to say the least.

Unless Stearns and Foster reaches out, this mattress goes back, and my mattress search starts over again, but I know which company I will not be purchasing from in the future. The company states that its master craftsmen are trained for 6 months and personally hand stitch and then sign each mattress. I cannot believe anyone would have signed this mattress, but he/she did.

Our experience is nearly identical to other folks who, like us, made the terrible mistake of purchasing a Stearns and Foster Lux Estate “pillow top” hybrid California king mattress. We bought it Mattress Firm. We discovered how bad our first one was and had them deliver a replacement. The 2nd one was just as bad so we “traded up”. It is a lengthy story so to “speed it up a bit” we ended up spending $5600.00 on their best mattress within this category of mattress. Like the previous others the mattress sagged downwards on the side that my wife sleeps on. It created so much back and hip pain that she couldn’t sleep more than 4 hours a night. We had the store manager and well as “Stearns” technician examine it and they couldn’t, they said, find anything wrong. The tech from Stearns suggested we get a blanket and fold it over until we had raised the mattress about 2 inches higher the length of the bed to compensate for the slant.

Now my wife weighs a whopping 107 lbs at 5’ 3” tall so her weight wasn’t a factor. My side of the bed was actually worse. The edge of the bed was so broken down that I couldn’t sit on it. I actually fell out of bed several times hitting my nightstand and damaging my lamp and various other pieces not to mention the bruises I sustained. Every time I visited the Stearns warranty website or viewed comments from other people with the same issues I became so disheartened that I didn’t follow through and file a claim. It isn’t the $80.00 fee they charge to send one of their warranty people out to look at it but I’ve never had to pay a company to check a defective product before. That, and the experiences of people who did and rarely, if any, received the “defective” product judgment and a replacement mattress made me feel like “what’s the use!” Even if we got a replacement I think we’d only be getting the same “piece of junk” like we did on the previous two occasions.

I never did my due diligence before buying because we has owned a Stearns and Foster mattress many years before and it was a quality product. Of course that was before the company sold out and merged and began cranking out the inferior products g they call mattresses. Times are tough for most folks today and as seniors on fixed incomes we are no exception. Together, with all the health issues we have to deal with and a mattress that has made our spines feel horrible, it would seem that the only option we have left is to go mattress shopping again. One thing is certain, it will not be at Mattress Firm and may our eyes never gaze upon another Stearns and Foster product again. Take our advice and stay clear unless you’re willing to spend tons of money on a really terrible product with a warranty that isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.
