I bought an Expanded Queen Sleep Number 9000 bed this year. My husband and I really haven't had any bad problems with it, but it definitely is not worth the money they charged. The mattress loses air sometime during the day while we're at work, so every night we have to check it and get our sleep # back.

Also, the salesman completely lied to me about products for the new expanded queen size, telling me that JC Penney and Bed, Bath & Beyond sell bedding for this size....they do not. I do like the extra width, but it's not worth the hassle of finding quilts, etc., that fit it.

My wife and I have enjoyed a Select Comfort king-size bed for 12 years and it has never deflated nor do we roll to the middle. That problem ended when we got rid of the double or queen-size conventional bed. Our pump ws struck by lightning 3 years ago and customer service was very helpful. We received a new pump within days no questions asked. Prior to our purchase my wife was contemplating surgery on a bulging disk. The problem will never go away of course but she is not thinking about surgery now. I will never be without a Select Comfort bed.

We got our sleep number bed a week ago...and we should have read your sites information first. After one week my back is in horrible pain and mold is already starting to collect on the air bags. What a complete waste of money and now they are tell us in so many words too bad and deal with it. What kind of company is this. May be a class action suit should be started. This is the number one bed company in the US? I believe we as Americans have been accustomed to horrible customer service and second rate products. We need to stop this right here right now.

My wife and I have back neck and back pain .... we were told to deal with it basically...that it takes some time to get use to. How can you get use to something you adjust manually? should should set it where you want and that should be it.

We are about to buy our 7th Select Comfort Bed. Over the years, the only one we wanted to return was the 2002 model 7000 which used a type of foam that was always hard. We allowed ourselves to be talked into keeping it a while longer and then were told our 30 days had passed and we would have to keep it. I sold it on Ebay for a $200 loss a year later. I love the 2002 model 5000 with pillowtop and the previous 5000 models. The 3000 twin needs a pillowtop to be comfy. We are looking to buy the adjustable 5000, but i am having doubts since you can not return the foundation and I see some on sale.

If you want to return it, DO so fast. Dont let them talk you out of it. Use a major credit card to protect yourself. We always got replacement parts fine.

We bought a king sized model # 7000 in April of 2004. This is best bed my wife and I have slept on. I have read the other complaints and just have to believe that extremely overweight individuals must be writing them. There is not any sagging or rolling to center as described in the complaints. My suggestion to those complaining is to leave the ice cream alone for a few years before making their problems someone else's.

Since I was intereted in buying a 2nd bed, I happened accross these written complaints. Some people just can't be pleased and just dramatize their problems. I will buy another one these beds by Select Comfort.

About eight years ago, my wife and I purchased a king size sleep number bed from a Select Comfort store in a local mall. At the time we were heavily influenced by the company's claims in their advertising. Several months after our purchase, however, I noticed that every time I woke up, which happened frequently during the night, I found myself in the middle of the bed partly crowding my wife's sleeping space. Additionally, I found that for the first time in my life I began waking up with back and muscle aches every morning and wondered if it was caused by the mattress. I took the bed apart and found that the plastic panel mattress foundation was sagging in the middle.

I replaced the panels with 5/8 inch plywood and supported the plywood in the middle by adding a couple of wooden legs. The problem persisted and I decided to call Select Comfort for advice on how to remedy the problem. The lady on the telephone was very friendly and seemed to be familiar with my problem and told me that she would send out a part that I should install to fix it. When the box arrived I was astounded to find a flimsy piece of foam in it measuring about one and a half inch by 72 inches. I knew at once that that would not fix my problem but I installed it anyway...it made no difference whatsoever. I also kept adjusting the numbers on my mattress from settings of 20 to 70 pounds in five pound increments.

We purchased a new Select Comfort bed in June 2006. After our 30-day free trial was over, all the problems seemed to start.

One side or the other fills up with more air or one side goes flat and has to be refilled several times during the night. It is one of the most uncomfortable beds that we have ever slept on!!! You end up rolling to the middle. Talk about having your sleep interupted!!

We will not recommend this bed to anyone. For the price they charge there should not be any problems!!!

We purchased the Sleep Number 5000 pillowtop mattress after having heard so many good things from celebrities and felt that it was a reputable company. They SAY that you have 30 days FREE in home trial and if you don't like it you can return it. We bought it from the branch store in Columbia, S.C. We dealt with a Mr. Les G, who I must say was nice. We were under the impression that we could take the bed apart and drive back to the store in Columbia, which is approximately 35 miles from our home, and return it if we didn't want it.

We had problems from the very beginning with rolling to the center of the bed, the bed deflates during the night and you wake up in a hole. They sent us a piece of cheap foam to put in the bed to correct this problem. We were told by the operator that this is a common problem that the company will have to deal with at some point. The foam didn't help only made it worse. We called the store we bought it from to tell them we were bringing it back, only to find out we have to ship it to Minnesota which will cost app. $150 OR we can have them come back to our house and disassemble the bed and ship it back for $200!

WE paid them $150 to set it up because they said it was hard to do by ourself and we don't have a truck to get the bed from Columbia. So far our FREE 30 DAY HOME TRIAL HAS COST US $350 PLUS WE BOUGHT A $170 (on sale!) down mattress pad which we are stuck with also. So we are OUT $520 and have nothing to show for it. Now we have to go out and buy another mattress. Their advertising of the FREE trial is very deceptive, not to mention that the product is NOTHING MORE THAN A GLORIFIED CAMPING AIR MATTRESS WITH CHEAP FOAM ON THE TOP.

My son and his wife have been suffering from unexplained symptoms , until now that we have found the mold! My son has an unidentified golf ball size area showing up on the chest x-ray of his lung. Though tests have proven it not to be cancer thank God, The specialists do not have ANY idea what this is. Called the manufacturer and they are aware that this can happen but will not acknowledge that it is a problem, just say that they have a new improved chamber and they will replace all the neccessary parts of the bed.

You are left on your own to try to figure out why you have a sink hole in your bed.

Bought a Model 9000 (most expensive) Sleep # bed with a 30 day return policy. Within a few days of sleeping on it we noticed the chambers (both sides) were losing air (20 to 30 points each). Called the retail store to be told , sounds like you need a new pump. Call the service center. Local manager is prohibited to talk to service center on customers behalf, they can only talk to local district manager.

Called service center to get the worlds worst run-a-round. Told them the problem and was told, check the foam sides, check the top foam, heat fluxuations cause lose of air, not unusual to lose air and have to readjust, where you on the bed or off when adjusting, check these things. When we told them its just losing air they talked down to us so badly we lost confidence in the service, product and retail outlet and said we have had it we will be returning the bed. Then we were told you just can't return it it takes a lot of computor work to get the papers ready.

In less than 2 weeks of buying a Select Comfort bed I began to roll toward the middle. SC sent a foam piece to raise one side, it felt worse. I called and got RMA.

When I was repackaging the bed I saw that the support beams had warped and sagged in the center as much as 5/8. I don't understand why they don't remedy this defect. I didn't see the complaints on the internet until after I discovered the problem. Now I see that rolling toward the middle is a common complaint.

I purchased a new dual air chamber queen size Select Comfort bed. I set it up according to the directions. When one side is inflated higher than the other side the person on the firmer side feels rolls onto the softer side. I contacted the company and they supplied a piece of foam, but it didn't fix the problem. I obtained some more foam locally, so I could try various thicknesses, but that proved to be in vain... by the time you had enough foam in it to help the original problem then you roll to the other side or it is high in the middle and you roll to either side.

This was just masking an obvious problem which Sleep Comfort denied having, saying no one else was having any problems and that I must not have the bed properly assembled which was nothing more than a cop out. The mattress came with a great almost lifetime warranty, but I was well past the money back guarantee period. I can't blame anyone but myself for not returning it right back to them but I've never seen a company so eager to deny they had a problem. Being a single man, I forced myself to try to ignore the problem but it will always exist.

I called this afternoon, August 9, 2006 to set up a time and was told I could only send back the mattress not the adjustable foundation. They said they explained this to us at the store and I signed paperwork. Well they did not explain this to us at all. What would we need twin foundations for if we did not like the bed. We had expected to love this bed, but it is not working out at all. What good is a satisfaction guaratee if they are not going to honor it.

I was never able to get the bed ajusted to where I could sleep all night and ended up moving into the guest room. It took me almost two weeks to realize that the bed never maintained pressure. I would set it at 65 when I went to bed and it would be at 30 in the morning.

I communicated with the corporate offices and would just get the standard "just hang in there. you'll get used to it." I notified the local store and corporate within the 30-day trail period to come get the bed. It took another 30 days of them trying to talk me into keeping the bed before they finally agreed to come pick it up (at my cost). I had sent them a copy of a letter of complaint I had sent to my credit card compnay. I think that is what finally got their attention. At the end of the entire process someone called me and asked if I wanted a technician to come out and repair the bed!!! I bought a Sealy Postupedic pillow top mattress and have not had a sleepless night since.

We purchased the 5000 Queen Select Comfort bed with standard foundation to the tune of $1,800.00, in May of 2004. It was the first new bed we ever purchased. WHAT A MISTAKE! From the very first we rolled to the middle of the bed. I've made numerous calls to the company to complain. I've been told I needed more foam inserts. I placed the foam as directed by customer service. We stilt roll to the middle of the bed.

We even went back to the store to see how their beds were set up. I mentioned to the company that maybe we had a defective bed. I was told in a heated voice, "We don't have defective beds"! I asked for someone to come out to see if the delivery men put it up wrong. It was like I was asking for their first born.

After going back to the store again, the manager came to our house to help us out, the bed was set up fine. We even changed the chambers around to see if that would help. No such luck. The manager said the company should pay for an upgrade for us. I called customer service again today, the person was nice, she did sympathize with me but said there is nothing they will do. I'm to sell the bed and cut my losses.

I asked to speak to someone higher up. No luck there either. The customer service rep thanked me for being polite and not swearing at her, apparently that is a problem. She also said that this was a large problem and eventually corporate will have to do something to correct the problem of people rolling to the center. Her supervisor wanted to know who the manager was I spoke to, because of his recommending an upgrade. I told her I was not going to throw this guy to the wolves because he has been trying to help us fix a problem. We should of been made aware of potential problems in the beginning.

So, we are STUCK with a bed we HATE! Stuck with the loss of money and continued back problems. Hey at least our chiropractor is getting rich off of us having a horrible bed.

I purchased a Select Comfort sleep number bed over a year ago. It only took 2 weeks for my wife and I to realize what a poor investment it was. First I contacted customer services and explained that between my wife and I the bed not only was extremely uncomfortable, it was poorly supported and over hyped on TV.

We can't get close at night due to the difference in pressure level of our two sides. The foam center piece repeatedly collapses leaving a divet in the center and if either of us moves or attempts to get out of the bed the other rolls to the opposite side. The manager instructed me that there is an adjustment period -- well it's long overdue.

The foam piece between the chambers is quite uncomfortable as well. The bed is uneven and hard to adjust for two people to sleep well. The mattress constantly shifts to the foot of the bed causing more tears under the mattress cover.

Lastly, and most important: After losing friends to a tragic fire in a Rhode Island night club (foam materials on the walls of the club caused this fire to spread in 50 secs killing 100 people and injuring at least 300 more), I decided to question Select Comfort about the foam in my bed. My husband bought a Select Comfort bed before we were married for about $3000. It was fine until the 30-day money-back return was expired. Since then we have had problems with our bed sloping in the middle. We called Select Comfort and they sent us a piece of foam that was 1 1/2 inches thick. We didn't think that would do much, but we gave it a try.

It didn't do anything, so we called them back. They then sent us a much thicker piece of foam, but it ended up just making a big bump in the middle of our bed. We still feel like we are sloping on either side of the bed.

Next, we were watching the news in our area and they did a story about mold growing on the foam and air chambers. We checked our mattress and we also have a blanket of mold on the foam. We called again and they said the only thing they would do was to send us new foam. They also said they would send us another piece to help with the sloping. They were unconcerned about the mold, and we were told that from now on, we need to air our bed out once a month.

Not only that, but we requested they send a letter out to all the consumers letting them know about the mold problem. Their response was that they aren't going to do that, but all new costumers will be getting better instructions on how to care for their bed.

He sleeps with a softer setting than I do, so for much of the night I am trying not to roll onto the softer side of the bed.

If I try a softer setting, my back hurts so much it is a challenge to crawl over the rigid edge. I do admit that the mattress is fairly comfortable IF one sleeps on their back. The body in a moderate V shape is much like a hospital bed with elevated head and feet. However, if one sleeps on their side, and the head and feet are higher than the hips, a V shape is not comfortable. The body is not meant to be bent into that uncomfortable position.

We bought a bed from them for $2400.00 with the expectation that if we are not completely satisfied we could simply return it. From the moment it arrived, we were unsatisfied.

It is nothing more than a blow-up mattress with foam covering it. If you inflate the mattress to a firm setting, you feel like you're on top of a bubble, which you are - it does not inflate evenly. I called Select Comfort within two days of receiving the product requesting to return the product. I was told that they would not take the "Adjustable Frame" back, only the mattress. I was told that I signed a waiver. No, I did not sign anything, my husband purchased the bed for us. He was rushed through the "initial here" and "initial there" for delivery purposes. Nothing was ever said about not being able to return the entire bed.

I purchased a bed from Select Comfort and after a few nights was very unhappy. The sleepable area of the king was more like a queen. A large weight difference between my husband and I made the dual chambers extremely counter-productive rather than the claims made in all the demos.

In light of these problems we decided to return the bed. Four days had passed since we received the bed (about 9 days since we paid in full). When we called to find out how to go about the refund and return process, we were informed that our purchase was a final sale. This took us by sur prize as we were under the impression there was a 30-day return policy.

A customer service supervisor told us we bought a clearance bed and that it was a final sale. We were never told or given the slightest hint of this, we thought we just got a great deal. Nowhere on our invoice or on anything concerning our purchase did it say we wouldn't be able to return it. I spoke with customer service many times and none of the people I spoke to would acknowledge a copy of the Massachusetts law I found that clearly states (Mass. Gen. Law Chapter 93A 940 Code of Mass. Regs. 3.13) that a seller can have any type of return policy it wants ... "all sales final," "merchandise credit only," "full cash refunds within 30 days," etc. .. but that the seller's refund, return, or cancellation policy must be disclosed to the buyer clearly and conspicuously before the transaction is completed.

Usually, this is done by means of a sign at the point of purchase. Printing the store's return policy only on a cash register sales slip does not comply. You may return goods within a reasonable period of time if no return policy was disclosed. A seller cannot misrepresent its refund, return, or cancellation policy, or fail to honor any promises about it.

Now, you had to lift the king size mattress off the bed (a feat in itself) but you cannot get to the area where the tubing attaches to the mattress unless you cut a hole in fabric (which I did not do.) Consequently, we have let this go by (with aggravation) since we purchased this product. That we let it go on this long is our own fault, I realize that.

However, if a consumer pays over $3,500.00 (we did) for a product, the company should come and install it and demonstrate it. They demo was done at the store from which we purchased but of course they did not tell you of any potential problems. Customer service from the company sharply informed me that they did not have service technicians who would come to the home to correct the problem. I have sent the company another letter just to reiterate my opinion of them and their lousy product and worse yet, their lousy customer service practices.

The Select Comfort system allows mold and/or mildew to form on the convoluted foam topper and on the air mattresses. Select Comfort's solution "use a light bleach solution to clean the mattress." It's impossible to clean the foam. Their product is unhealthy for people like me who have allergies to mold/mildew. Also, the dual mattress system is not comfortable when one mattress is harder, you end up rolling to the softer mattress side of the bed. My husband sleeps on it by himself.

My husband and I purchased a Select Comfort bed. I suffer from arthritis and fibromyalgia and it has been about 10 years since I have slept thru the entire night. We were looking forward to me being able to get some sleep. We purchased the bed in October of 2002. This being after three attempts to get the right bed to us.

The long and short of the story is that the bed, after six months developed a "trench" in the middle. My husband and I were not able to get any sleep because we were rolling into each other all during the night. We called the company, they told us nothing could be done as our 30-night guarantee was over. (This had nothing to do with the 30 night guarantee, this was a malfunction of the bed).

They sent a piece of foam to "remedy" the problem. This did nothing except to make it like a speed bump in the middle of the bed. We called again, they sent another piece of foam. This, as expected, did nothing to give us any rest. Another phone call, another "sorry your 30 night guarantee is over," another piece of foam.

We spent $1500 for a bed that we thought would last us at least as long as our old mattress had. I am now in so much pain that my productivity level is very low, I am depressed because I hurt all the time and can't get the things done that I used to. Yes, existing health issues were already there, but they have only gotten worse with continued use of the bed.

On April 15 2003 I purchased a dual air queen set mattress from their store in Riverside CA. We had gone on vacation that month and were not in the bed enough to give it a chance. About two weeks after the 30-night trial was up I started having severe back and hip pain. The mattress would pump itself up from 35 to 55 in the middle of the night.

I purchased a dual air chamber full size mattress through the Select Comfort Mattress Co., via the internet. It was delivered and I set it up according to the directions. The bed is designed for the comfort of two people. One person could have firmer mattress on their side and the other person could have a softer side.

However, when one side is inflated softer than the other side the person on the firmer side feels like they are rolling into the softer side. So after several nights of discomfort for my boyfriend and I, I contacted the company and they informed me that my 30-night trial had expired so they could not give me a refund, but they would indeed try to fix the problem.

So they sent me a chamber lift for the softer side of the bed, to lift it up. This chamber lift was nothing other than a piece of foam, approximately 1/2 inch thick. They sent me directions on how to install this, which has diagrams of the problem and how this would fix the problem. Clearly I believe they were aware from other complaints that this was a problem, or they wouldn't have these diagrams.

So that didn't solve the problem, so I again contacted them and they sent me another chamber lift, and that also didn't solve the problem, but caused another problem. It made the soft side higher than the firm side, so again the rolling into the other side problem.

I again contacted them asking for a refund and they absolutely refused sticking to their 30 night guarantee, so they sent me again another piece of foam to place in the center of the bed, this caused a hill in the middle of the bed, then it felt like rolling out of bed on each side of the bed.

By this time I was very unsatisfied with their product and again asked for a refund, not asking for the money I had already paid, just asking them to take back their product, and credit my account for the remaining balance. They again refused with the same reason, the 30 days had expired. So again they sent me yet another piece of foam.

I was so frustrated with it that I decide to check their warranty, as the mattress comes with a 20 year warranty, and there I discovered that they don't cover the foam in their warranty, so I wondered why they were trying to fix a problem, that wouldn't be covered with what they were fixing the problem with. So that a year from now even if their foam inserts had fixed the problem, which it did not, I would indeed have the same problems, that would not be covered under their warranty again.

So I again contacted them and brought this to their attention, and they again just referred to their 30-night guarantee. I feel their product does not work as they say it will and neither will their attempts to fix it. They have told me that it is just a matter of my opinion, and they can do nothing about my being uncomfortable or unsatisfied with their product.

There must be a way to get a refund on this product, even though the 30-night trial had expired, and I would like to know how I could get credited to my account. I think that because of their attempt to fix the problems with something that they don't warranty, that they should give me a full refund and take back their product. I have put their mattress back in its shipping boxes and have bought another conventional mattress, because I could not sleep another night on this Select Comfort mattress.

The consequences of this are that I now owe over $1,200 to a finance company that is now harassing me for the money, and going to take it to collections if I don't pay. I don't want to pay for something I can't sleep on. This will damage my credit rating, which will make it hard for me to make purchases that need to be financed in the future. I was already turned down by the company I had to buy my new mattress from, due to this being on my credit record, so had to pay cash for the new mattress.

It has also caused me to lose sleep at night, do to the uncomfort of their mattress. Also caused a problem in my relationship with my boyfriend as he could not sleep on this mattress, and both of us would wake up with back pain in the morning. He would have to sleep on the couch, which was emotionally damaging to our relationship. I have also been emotionally damaged, by losing sleep at night and by this company not caring about my comfort.
