I get paid every other Friday late in the day. Sometimes I don't get my check deposited until Saturday or the following Monday. Rent-A-Center calls me 3 to 4 times a day beginning on the Friday I get paid, which is before I even have my paycheck. They told me "You get paid, we get paid". They are the rudest group of people I have ever dealt with and I have now gotten to the point that I purposely don't answer their calls because they make me so angry. They talk to you like you don't have any brains and with complete disrespect. I told them that as soon as I have the chance, I was going to get a washer and dryer and that they could pick up their merchandise because I did not need to be insulted any further. I was told by Pablo, the manager, that they couldn't wait for that to happen. I would never, ever refer a friend or anyone for that matter to Rent-A-Center.

Jerard, manager, is one of the rudest people I've ever spoken to. He never sticks to one thing. He called today, after I'd paid off one of the two current accounts that are open with them on Jan. 20th, my last $200. I've had several accounts with them and have paid them, in full. I call myself doing a "friend" a favor with a television. He skipped out on everyone and I was left with the bill. I was in constant communication with Jerard and the entire staff about the situation. It was only a few hundred left on each item & I've settled one of them.

Now, "supposedly" another $350 will settle me out with the TV. Prior to paying off this account, Jerard talked over me, yelled, insulted me back speaking in a very condescending manner. He told me that even thought I sent two letters with my forwarding address on both, in addition to numerous phone calls, he didn't know how to reach me. Thus, he reported the merchandise stolen in my name! Are you serious? But, being who I am, he still got my last $200. When I paid, they asked what date I could do the remainder. I only work 20 hours a week and have other bills, so I said March 15th. He tells me I won't receive another call from his office after Jan 31st because it's "out of his hands".

Here it is February 7th, he's calling my phone! I told him, again, March 15th. He says to me, "March 15th? That's not going to fly." I let him have it because I could hear him gearing up to start yelling. As soon as I called for someone else in my house, he hung up. They want to intimidate you. The more people who are in on your situation the worse it is for them. They haven't given specific threats, but they truly ruin my day. I don't know what’s going to happen. I'm seeing now, with all these complaints, that simply because I never said to them "I'm not paying you." And the fact that I have paid down to the last $350, I can't be "thrown in jail". They are hideous and this is the Randallstown, Maryland staff located in Liberty Court Shopping Center.

My husband and I were just married back in November 2011 and bought a home on December 20th 2012 and wanted to rent Furniture from Rent-A-Center. We went in on December 28th and they had a special going on at that time, no payments until after February 4th, which I thought was fantastic so we purchased a brown very large sectional and a MacBook Air from them for thousands of dollars more than store prices.

The first problem we encountered was we went in on a Monday and they couldn't even deliver our couch until that following Saturday, which was a problem considering we had nothing to sit on in our new house therefore we rented a U-Haul and had to pick it up ourselves since we wanted to get it sooner. Problem solved, thanks to us.

Second problem we encountered was with my computer. It doesn't work properly! It doesn't right click, you can't pull up an extra tab, it doesn't hold a charge for more than an hour, & RAC has their password on the computer so I can't download anything to my computer! So I sent the computer with my husband to go up to Rent-A-Center so they could fix it and they took four hours to "fix" the password issue. Then when my husband finally goes up there to pick it up and brings it back home I try to download Adobe Flash Drive and it's still asking for a password and username! So I called again the next day and they made us come back up to the store and they shipped it off to be fixed and gave me a cheap replacement for a week and then gave me the computer back and I attempted again to download Adobe and it still wants a password and username! So I just said forget it and went on with life.

Third problem we encountered was the payment. February 1st comes around and I get a call from RAC me thinking it was to see if my computer was working better for me but instead I get asked why I'm late on my payment? What? I explained to her that I called in and said we would be getting payed on Feb 6th and we would make our payment then and that the person I spoke to said it would be fine with a small late fee and then she began to tell me that first time payment can not be late or it's an automatic pick-up. What? Like are you kidding me? Their advertisement was for Feb 4th and they can't wait two days for the payment in full plus a late-fee? She finally said, "We'll take the late payment in full with an extra late fee," then hung up.

I am flabbergasted by the way I have been treated thus far. I haven't even had my items for an entire month and yet we delivered our own furniture, had to deal with defects on a computer that should be brand new and have been embarrassed about a late payment that is actually two days late! Needless to say, I'll be returning the items as soon as possible and purchasing elsewhere!

I have proof of having a little over $2000 paid on my stuff, but the office in Charlottetown only has my down for $1700. I got a slip from them and I have a sister that deals with them. I'm getting charged two different taxes than what she is paying out. I am now refusing to pay any more on my stuff until something is done about this and I'm keeping the items. If i have to, I will take legal action. Another thing is, they have been calling people I know and telling them about my personal information and etc. that there is a good enough reason to file charges. And another thing is, they are charging me an extra $1000 on my items than what is on my contract! They have been pretty rude and violent in the past. There has been three people for the center in Charlottetown that has been fired. I feel that they are scamming people out of money and I have pretty good proof of this going on. I want something done about this ASAP!

I’ve been renting from Rent-A-Center for approximately 2 years give or take. For a while everything was fine, until winter hit in Florida. I worked for an AC and heating company and after a while, work really died and I started struggling with payments. I always scraped up the money somehow and paid them. It has been maybe 4-6 months since I’ve been unemployed and receiving money from the state and they’ve known approximately 4-6 of those months that I’ve been unemployed, yet did they say anything, nope.

Fast forward to February 1, 2012, after taking only so much, I decided to pay my 40 inch Sony TV and washer off since I only had approximately $75 on the TV and $35 on the washer off and ease the stress they have caused with the numerous calls a day and the harassing voicemails. When I paid off my TV and washer, I told them I can make a small payment on my PS3 but I couldn’t do no more and I’ll catch up that following and I gave them a date.

Again they kept calling and finally when I wasn’t home, they appeared at my house when my roommate was home and he opened the door and they pretty much barreled through the door and snatched up the PS3 and accessories and left.

When I called them a few days later and told them how much was it to get it back, the guy on the phone said he would have to talk to the manager and he’ll call me back. I’m not going to say any names because the guy I’ve been talking to is a really nice guy and probably one of the only few straight up guys theirs said he call me back. Well I ended up calling and he told me that they don’t see unemployment as a source of income and until I find a job, they won’t give me it back money or not and I can always resume payments when I get a job. Is this not discrimination? So I’m going to start protesting because this is unjust and unfair and I wonder how much of these stunts they pull are illegal.

On January 28, 2012 at approximately 7:30 pm, there was a loud knock on my door; no one answered. So the knock became louder and louder until they actually began beating on the door. These actions continued for 15 minutes or so until my daughter finally went to the door. Upon her opening the door, she was met there by 2 gentlemen who stated they were from RAC and came to pick up their merchandise. She explained to them that she didn't live there and she could not allow them to enter the premises. She explained to them that if the beating continued, she would call the Schaumburg police department. One of the men at the door said, "We have called them."

She closed the door, and the beating on the door continued until the neighbor across the hall came out and requested they leave, otherwise they would call the police because they were disturbing everyone on that floor. After approximately 5 to 10 minutes, the beating finally stopped. I live in a secure building, the men who came out never rang my buzzer for entrance into the building; therefore, they were in the building without my consent.

They were there to collect items from my apartment and therefore should not have been inside the secured building unless someone from the apartment complex management let them in or I let them in myself. I feel these actions cannot go unpunished. I don't care what the situation is; they should not be allowed to harass people. I have paid all, except approximately $300.00 for this property; and they want to just come and take it and sell it to someone else. I am just a few weeks behind with my payments.

I applied there on January 17 and was denied because I filed bankruptcy and claim through a promo in RAC at Value City which is cleared. I gave all my documents and references and phone numbers and made sure he had all info, still denied. This complaint will go further and a letter written to whomever I can for this bad rule to change. I've done nothing wrong. Also it took five phone calls before anyone called me.

I have been a on time paying customer of rent a center since September of 2010 and it is 2012 and I have three active accounts right now. I'm very angry and distressed about the compact washer. This particular model of whirlpool washer is the worst I have ever seen. Now, they advertise top quality merchandise and on the contrary that's not what you receive. The first washer was brand new out of the box and it worked for eight months then broke down. I called for it to be picked up for repairs and was told I would be given a loaner machine until mine was fixed and returned to me, but that never happened.

I was given four loaner machines because every time they bought a loaner to my home and left to my distress one after none of them worked. The same thing that was wrong with the first one was wrong with all of them. I wrote the home office, all I got was a phone call asking me what was the problem. Since the new year, the machine I got in place of the one that was sent to service has broken down. I am on my seventh machine, I want a new and better quality machine for all the money I have invested in this agreement with rent a center.

The week of Thanksgiving, I went into the Riverview Store on Fort Street. I was looking for a Futon. I was told by the very nice, but very fake salesperson Danielle that they had Futon bunk beds that separated so I could have a futon and a bed. She also told me that she had a lot of them in stock. I opted to wait to rent this item until Black Friday because I could get four weeks free if purchased between 6 am and 8 am on Black Friday. When I went into the store that morning they, unfortunately, did not have them anymore in stock, but would be able to get one in 2 weeks. They allowed me to rent a regular bunk bed set with the same deal and at a cheaper rate with the promise that the futon bunk bed would be delivered in two weeks.

After the 2 weeks were up I did not receive a phone call nor were the futon bunk delivered. When I called to inquire, they acted like they didn’t know what I was talking about and they would check into it and call me back. After 3 days, still no call so I called them again. This time I was told that those beds were no longer available, but I could keep on renting the other bunk beds. I told them no and I told them to pick them up. Then I decided I would rent another item instead and they wanted to charge me twice the amount than they were charging for the beds.

I told them I would be back on Friday to pay the fee as they wanted to charge me extra because I wanted to rent on a Wednesday. I went home, and as I thought about it, I felt I was a victim of a bait and switch. I told them I would never do business with them again. Please note I had been a customer with them since around 2000 and purchased a living room set, a washer and dryer and a desktop computer. All of which were paid in full. Please go to Aaron's. They are cheaper and not so crooked.

I find it alarming when your Account Manager can't follow rules, like calling you after certain time regarding payment if I haven't made it into the office. I usually make my payments online when I work late. Once, I talked to a Manager when I run into a problem. I made my payment a day later since I received my salary late, then my account manager started calling my references and involving them regarding my personal business. This is hilarious. Went to Rent-a-Center to purchase (90 days same as cash) a brand new living room set. Did my shopping and found exactly what I wanted for a reasonable price. However, back in the late 90's to 2000, I was a customer of RAC and always paid my bill and bought stuff outright. Unfortunately, there was a time in 2000 that I ran into a financial problem and was unable to pay the monthly bill. Took me to court in Phoenixville, PA where the Judge asked the sales associate if he was a "Corporate Officer RAC". Young man responded I work for RAC as a sales associate. Judge replied, not good enough.

In order to take a customer to court, a Corporate Officer of the company must appear. Contact your corporate office and refile and they must appear. I never heard another word from RAC. I had them come and pick up the furniture. Now today, I was denied because they showed me a paper with my name listed on it about 10 times saying I stole-skipped on all the furniture which is an outright blatten lie. Interesting thing was there were no dates on this piece of paper. When I explained what had happened to the "young" associate he said, "maybe someone stole your identity". I said, "No aren't you listening? I'm telling you exactly what happened." You see I work as a collection manager for the past 19 years for a high end company and never have I ever treated anyone differently than the way I want to be treated nor have I padded a bill and kept shorty records.

Now, if his condescending attitude wasn't bad enough, he made the mistake of discussed my situation with me in the showroom with other customers in the store along with my grand daughter sitting right next to me. There were 2 empty offices that we could have gone into behind closed doors but this young man thought he could intimidate me. The store was overcrowd and customers were going in and out of the store rooms to see if what they wanted was in stock. On three separate occasions that day (12/17/2011, Norristown, PA) people went through doors that said "employees" only, tell the associates working, they found what they wanted but needed help to bring it out. One was a woman looking for a TV stand. Went in the back, found it and came out and told the young man who had spoken to me later.

So my question of the day is, if I kept renting and stealing or skipping out (I have not moved or left my job) why would RAC keep renting to me, until now? I will be contacting an attorney tomorrow to file a suit against RAC for poor business practices. (Cannot discuss your financial business in front of anyone other than the name on any contract plus a multitude of other charges). I did get my new living room set later that day from a furniture store who was having a huge sale. It turned out to be a "lucky" day for me after all.

Hi, my name is Christopher **. I am taking time out and contacting you because I have a problem with some unprofessional employees at Rent-A-Center once in mentioning Chris, Alex, Luke, and Keyanda (spell check). I rented a washer and dryer few months ago. Within the last month, I have had a few family problems out of town. On Nov. 10, 2011, I have a friend who ordered some stuff from Rent-A-Center. He and his girlfriend know Alex and Keyanda (spell check). One of them told my friend about all my business I have at Rent-A-Center and they are not references. So, my friend called me asking me all about the things going on at Rent-A-Center. I asked him how he knew this. He told me that Alex told him.

On Nov. 14, Alex and Luke came and picked up the washer and dryer. It took me longer than usual to open the door because I was dealing with other pressing business at the time. Upon entry, Alex was very rude when asked why he spoke about my business to my friend. He got really unprofessional and rude. They unhook the washer and dryer. While doing that, Alex pulled the gas line from the wall and broke a water line inside the wall. Water was coming from the washroom and into my bathroom. I did not know where the leak was coming from. I called the office at my apartment complex.

They sent someone out to look at it. When they came, they asked if anybody was messing with any pipes in the wall. My girlfriend (because at the time after Rent-A-Center left, I went to work) said that Rent-A-Center just left from picking up a washer and dryer and they bust the water line that was in the wall. After I got a call at work and was told what happened, I quickly took a break and called Rent-A-Center and spoke with Chris. He was being disrespectful and saying that it was not his problem. He told me to call my office and have them come out and fix it. He said that he could not do anything because there are two sides to every story and he had to talk to Alex first. He offered to come take pictures but it was already fixed.

My family went into Rent-A-Center located at 53 W. Chelten Ave., PA 19144. We went into the store to rent bunk beds and the customer service representative, Jaquined, was rude and did not try to service us. She did everything to hinder the process of renting the bunk beds. We brought our lease contract as a proof of residence and she denied it, stating the contract was not notarized. Who notarizes leases!!!!

That was very unprofessional in the manner in which she handled my family as customers. Due to her unprofessional behavior and the conflict in trying to rent bunk beds, we have decided to no longer use Rent-A-Center but to filter our services and that of my business into Aaron's which is cheaper and the process is much easier in obtaining service. I am very disgruntled about the whole situation that I will be complaining to the Better Business Bureau concerning the mentioned Rent-A-Center branch. What happened to the great customer service your company used to offer to your customers?

My desktop crashed while my 20 year old daughter was writing her midterm paper. In need of a computer, I went to my local Rent-A-Center located in Gates Avenue, between Marcus Garvey and Troop Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. I did everything that was required by them to rent a laptop. After about an hour and a half to two hours, I was told that they had to deliver the laptop to my address to verify the address. I was told that they would deliver it. It made no sense to me when I have seen my sister rent a laptop from a Queen’s location and walked out with the item, but I just said ok.

I left there at about 4:45 PM, and I was home by 5 PM. I live about 6-8 blocks away. I called about 7:15, asking about the delivery. I was told they would be delivering it very soon. The laptop was delivered after 9 PM. I don't think I will ever use them again. My daughter had a paper she had to email to her teacher by 9 PM that night. So, she is trying to get the teacher to change the grade. I pray that she doesn't have to suck up a zero for the essay due to Rent-A-Center.

I bought a LR set through Ashley Furniture through RAC Acceptance. First, it had delivery issues. They said that they would credit the delivery charge. But they never did. Three weeks later, the couch ripped right now in the middle. And it took a month for them to pick it up. They've had the couch for three weeks now, despite the contract saying that they have to provide a substitute if couch is not returned within two days. I spoke with the assistant manager. He said that was "if a couch was available" (they are a furniture store, hello?). It was just a bad experience from start to finish. I am paying the furniture off today, 90 days same as cash (or will be hit with an extra $300 in fees!). If I don't get the couch back within 30 days total, I will probably take them to small claims court for full refund! I should have just done a lay-a-way program with someone else. They really suck!

I feel that they overrode boundaries and under no circumstance, should enter the house with a minor child alone and no adult present! I will be pursuing this and see what kind of action can be taken against this company! When they left, they left a receipt which was signed by my daughter. First of all, she's not a legal adult to be signing anything and she was not the actual customer! That company has a very unprofessional manner and should be held responsible for their actions!

They were very specific because of our pay schedule. They proceeded to call my references after I had spoken with them. Miscommunication on both parties, but the store does not have proper training for company procedures. I went to the store and kept in full contact with them many times. They remain oblivious to what each employee says, does or agrees to. I offered a payment which was refused. I have decided not to do business with them because of their lack of respect, competence and professional responses. They need to be re-trained so they understand company issues.

Once again, they called late on Friday night to say they would be here on Saturday morning. They of course didn't show. They called again this morning to ask why I hadn’t come in with a payment. I just don’t have time for people 1) that don't communicate well, 2) that lie or 3) that don't take responsibility and try to work with a customer. Names included at this store are Melissa and Kirsten, both of which like to argue with a customer and are opposed to resolving a simple issue with a $500 used laptop.

I had rented a TV from them before and had taken it back due to being harassed everyday. They would call me even after the TV was returned. They said that if I come in and rent from them, they will apply what I paid toward the TV to my new purchase. I went in to see what they had, so as not to feel like I had just waisted 900.00 on the TV, but I never got an answer on how much they would apply toward the dinning room table so I did not go back.

I have been waiting to hear about the forward amount that they were going to apply from my previous rental. I told them not to ever call me again.

And the couch and loveseat didn't arrive until 7/27/2011, which I signed for both. The sofa and loveseat were to be $725.00 plus tax. The washer and dryer were $479.00 plus tax. I had less than $200.00 to pay on the washer and dryer, since we paid off the sofa set. We needed 2 days extension to pay it off. They now want to bump the price of the washer and dryer to over $900. They are used, not new.

Since we didn't actually receive the merchandise until 2 weeks after the manager at the time did the paperwork, I feel like our 90 days didn't start until at least one of the items was delivered. We told her from the beginning that we were not moving into the new place until the 1st of July, so we didn't need the contract until then. But she needed to do it, since we were putting that $300 down. They keep pushing me off on different people about asking for the extension. Of course, it ran me out of time. They would have to speak to district office to get the extension. One did that or kept passing the buck, so to speak. There is too much money invested already to just let it go. But I'm not paying that much for a used item, that has a dent in it.

One guy called this morning and told me that I was a co-signer. He guessed, that my son forged my name. I said, "Really? You take co-signers without seeing an ID?" There is no co-sign process with RAC, just listing of references. The RAC employee lied! He told me that our conversation was being recorded. I said, "Good, because I want every word I'm saying recorded." Then, he threatened that RAC would be at my house within minutes. For what? I didn't rent anything. I said, "Good, what time so the police can meet you here?"

I told them that there is nobody else that would sign. They quickly asked me to sign and when I explained to them that I was 17 they said they did not care. I signed the contract and made a large deposit for a computer and a TV. We were never late for payments until early 2011, when my fiance was put in jail unexpectedly and I was raising an infant on my own with only one part-time job. When I was 2 days late on my payment, Rent-a-center began calling me, my references, and my parents. When told to stop calling, they gave an attitude and called back 3 to 4 more times in a day. They then decided to show up at my house where my father explained to them that I was only 17 when I signed the contract, the things were not in my possession, & that if they didn't leave us alone, he was going to take legal action. They told him that they would remove my name from the contract and leave us alone.

Not even a day later I received a voicemail on my phone saying that if I did not go into RAC. and renew a contract with only my name, that they would report the objects stolen and I will be placed under arrest. I, like any normal person would do, went to RAC and renewed the contract since I could not get the computer & TV from my fiance's house. When I asked to see the the previous contract, they told me that it was no longer in the system and had been deleted when my father told them the situation. When I looked at the amount they said i now owed, it was nearly double of what I was supposed to pay in the beginning, and a few payments that I made previous to the situation were not on file. I am now 2 weeks late on a payment due to me losing my job. Rent-a-Center repeatedly calls me, sometimes 5 times in a row, and shows up at my house twice a day. I get attitude from every employee and every manager like it's my fault that they messed up. Well, to sum it up, I didn't read my contract well enough. I went with the 90 dollars same as cash deal and was finishing up my payments. I made a payment and asked when the 90 days were up. I was told I had two weeks, it was a Saturday. I trusted the man who told me "two weeks", but I shouldn't have. I went in to pay my final payment 12 days later and the "balance" had doubled from the principal. Instead of finishing the deal with a payment of $100, I now have a balance of $376. Guess how much the 90 dollars same as cash was? $380.

I was one day late after the 90 days. If I had a customer who had made a mistake and trusted a verbal cue, I would at least say, "Wow, you just missed it" or "I'm sorry you didn't make the deadline". Instead, I was just told "There's nothing I can do" over and over and over. So get this, I told them I wanted to bring it in instead of finishing the payments. The guy told me I'd get better value if I just finish my payments. No! If I continued to pay the minimal amount, I would end up paying about 900 dollars. If I turned it in that day, I would have totally lost $276 but I could buy a new one for just under $400. I could actually bring mine into the store and buy it again and still be way better off.

Point is, their contracts are legit but verbal communication is horrible. I was ** enough to trust that and they banked on it! I'm never going back.

I entered into a rent-to-own agreement with a Rent a Center (RAC) on July 30, 2011. My agreement was to purchase a Sony Vaio all-in-one, touch screen desktop computer for $1,100 after taxes. When I brought the computer home that Saturday and set it up, I discovered that the computer was not working. The store and their customer service department had already closed so I spent hours trying to figure out why the mouse, keyboard and the others were not being recognized by the computer.

I eagerly waited until Monday morning, as they are closed on Sundays, and I called them to inform them that the computer is broken. They gave me the number for their technical support center in Orlando. I called them and describe what issues I was having, I told the agent that the mouse, keyboard, printer and digital camera are not being recognized and the CD-ROM was not working. The agent told me to have the store mail it to the repair center because something is wrong with the mother board. I did that on Monday, August 1 and the store manager, Denise, told me that I should be getting the device back in 1-2 weeks, and in the meantime they would give me a loaner computer. They added that all payment would be applied towards the Sony.

Thursday, September 1, I had a message from the other manager, George, he said to call RAC. When I called him back he said that he was calling to remind me of my payment. I then asked him if the computer was back yet. He said, “oh no, the computer is fried, it got struck by the lightning. It can't be repaired. I said, “are you serious? Was anyone ever going to tell me that?”

Needless to say, I was a bit perturbed so I went to the location to speak to a manager. George came out and asked me if I was the lady with the Sony PC, and I said yes, then she told me that she knew that the computer was not working. She said that one day it was thundering and lightning really bad and the electricity shut off and turned back on, and after that, the computer didn't seem right anymore. So I was like, well, why did you sell it to me then?

Why would you put a computer on display and accept payments on it even if you knew that it was not working. And then admit it to me after the fact! He then walked away to a back office!

Then Denise, the other manager, finished helping her client and told me that they had another Sony or I could keep the HP loaner. I told her that I would like a discount for all of the inconveniences. I said that I would like to keep the HP since it's already in my home. She told me that the best she can do is give the computer for the same price as the Sony. I told her that the computer is estimated at $500, brand new, on the HP website, and this one is used with mismatched accessories. She said, “oh no, that computer is worth $1,200!”

The model number is HP 100-5155, and the spanking new, with all the correct accessories is valued at $479.99 per HP. RAC is completely dishonest and fraudulent company. I would greatly appreciate you looking into this particularly disturbing matter. I want every penny that I paid in installments for the month because they deliberately placed me into a contractual agreement with a knowingly broken device simply to collect weekly payments that are non-refundable.

My husband and I have been customers with Rent-A-Center off and on since 2004. That is a very long time in my opinion, and until this year I have never been treated the way that the store manager at the location I am renting from has been treating me. I have bought a computer and a bunk bed through Rent-A-Center in the past (the computer was purchased through this location I am renting from now).

I have returned items that I felt I couldn't afford at the time, or had them picked up. I am currently renting a washer and dryer, which were at first set-up as bi-weekly payments, but we were paying monthly to stay ahead. My husband quit his job; started a new one within a few days, and started to get paid weekly, instead of bi-weekly. One of the workers changed this, and we started to pay for our items every week.

We were only late a few times, and each time we were late, the store workers would continuously call my in-laws’ house, and would not call my home phone. The first time we were late, we were out of town. We weren't able to make the payment. My father-in-law and mother-in-law both told the manager of the store that we were out of town, and we would pay when we got back in a few days. They continuously kept calling until we got home, and even left a note on our garage and front door the day we paid it and after (I made the payment before the store opened at 10 AM). When I made this payment the manager, Terry, she was rude to me; I let it go, and allowed it because I just wanted to pay for it and get off the phone.

The last time we were late was this past week. I paid it the morning that my husband got paid before the store opened. During this week, we were late, whenever I went to talk to one of the employees they would hang up the phone, and when I called back, the phone would just ring. The workers continuously called my in-laws, and I am not sure if it was the exact result, but the next day after my father-in-law got the last phone call at work, he was fired from his job.

When I called to make the payment, I was only going to pay for the week we were late, the late fee, and the current payment coming up. The man I was talking to told me to hang on for a second, and a few minutes later the manager, Terry, came back onto the phone and started to yell at me. She told me that I had to pay until my husband got his next paycheck and I told her, "No, because I was getting my financial aid. I was planning on using that to pay the next week with it." She said, "Financial aid is not guaranteed money." I told her, "Yes, it is because most of my aid is grants.” She then said, "I need to charge until your husband's next paycheck." I told her, "I only have enough right now to pay for the past week, the late fee, and the current week coming up." She said, "Well, this onetime I will compensate and allow you to pay the amount you want, but if your husband switches jobs again and makes me have to change his job information again, I will demand you both start paying monthly." Before I could say anything else in return, she put another employee on the phone to take the payment. I made the payment, asked for my confirmation number and the district manager’s number (which was a store locator number), and the manager's name again.

A few hours later, my husband and I went to another Rent-A-Center. We asked what their policies were, and told them what had happened. The man we spoke to stated that this wasn't the first time he has heard of complaints against that store manager. He gave us the actual phone number to the district manager and his full name. Another employee in that store told us that another option to calling the district manager could be that we could transfer our account to that store (it was closer to us as well) because that was one of our rights. We agreed, and he went to make a phone call to have our account transferred. The other store manager declined, and stated that she would not allow our account to be transferred. Is this even legal?

They told us that another option would be to ask the store to pick up the items that we were renting, and start renting at that location. I did ask if everything we had already paid would be applied to the new items, and he said, "Yes!" So, we decided we would do that, and come back in a few days to start the process. My husband tried to contact the district manager three times that day; he left voicemail messages two times, and received no return phone call. I have never been treated this way before; yelled at, my husband was told he is not allowed to switch his job, or he has to accommodate her requests. My husband went back to his job he had when we first got the washer and dryer, so she didn't have to verify that he worked there or anything. The other Rent-A-Center told us that she was petty for saying that, and they cannot tell us where we can work or not, nor say that we cannot make a payment that doesn’t push us to our next paycheck, as long as they get money and we are current-- it is fine. He said they have people that are late and they understand that, when they get to a few weeks or a month, then they start calling references, if they cannot get a hold us the actual customer.

I feel that what happened was wrong, and I was treated with total disrespect. I have had the washer and dryer since January 2011 (8 months). I am not sure if I want to try to buy one outright at a store like Conn's, Sears, or see if the other store can fulfill their end. I feel that if I did buy one outright, I would have lost over $1000, but if I buy one and apply what I have already paid I would be wasting almost $3000 to Rent-A-Center, and that would go into the store manager’s (Terry) pocketbook. I don't feel she deserves it from her poor customer service, and how rude and unprofessional she was towards me and my husband.

I signed a rental agreement with Rent-A-Center to rent a 42 inches flat screen TV. I used a coupon I serviced in the mail for $400 and some dollars. At the time of signing the agreement, I was told that the $400 would be charged to the price of the TV, but when I called at a later date to figure out how much I still owed for that TV, the manager told me that only half of that coupon would be taken off the price of the TV. He told me that the guy who helped me before no longer worked there, and he was wrong to tell me that the whole coupon would be taken half; I owe the total amount of $800.

After that, I wanted to upgrade to a larger TV. I then signed a rental agreement to rent a 55 inches flat screen TV. At which time they told me by upgrading, I would not lose any of the money I had paid on the 42 inches flat screen. I also had a coupon for $700; they informed me that I wouldn’t lose any of the money I had paid in on the smaller TV, and the coupon would also be taken off the price of the 55 inches flat screen TV. At this time, I have paid $400 dollars on the TV. After the coupons have been added, the total was $1900 ($800 + $700 + 400=1900).

I have not been able to make a payment for a few weeks due to losing my job. The men from Rent-A-Center came to my house every day. They hit the doors hard as they can, scaring my children. They entered my yard; bang on the back door and the windows, while they were banging on the doors they were yelling rude things at me describing everyone around. They called my phone more the once a day sometimes, and they have left a message threatening me with calling the cops. They called my references after they have been asked not to call them anymore. When they come to my house they look in all the windows, and stand on the porch to see in the top window on the front door.

I said, "could I make it on Monday?" since the banks are closed already and there was no way for me to make payment until the bank is open. She said, "no, it's due today" and I was like "but it's only a day and a half. You would have to wait". She again told me "no, it's due today".

I asked her if she was joking with me and asked to speak to a manager. She told me she is the manager. Again, I said "Are you joking? I always make my payments and if I'm late, it's only by a day or two by maximum". She again said payment is due today and was very rude to me, treating me as if I'm like weeks behind. I could understand if my payment was really late. **, I could understand if I was two days late but I'm not even late yet and was treated this way.

They told me that I would have to give the rented stuff back. I am sorry but I'm not renting something and way over-paying for it to have them not trust me.

My payment for a TV was due on Saturday, 8/13/2011. They called me earlier that day. They called me at 8:00 PM that same night. The store manager, named Rick, called and left a very rude message on my voicemail.

Let me inform you that I have paid off a computer within 90 days with them. Also rented a washer a couple of times and paid that with no problem then called them when I no longer needed it. I was upset because they have a $5 and I feel like if I want to pay it 2 days late, let me pay it late.

There was no excuse for that rude message to be left on the day my payment was due. Well congrats to Rent-A-Center on 103rd street Jacksonville Florida between Ricker Road. You have lost this customer. I am with Aarons Furniture and they are way cheaper anyway. I am looking forward to that Rent-A-Center location going out of business. My daughter called them to find out what was going and was told I can't get the furniture because I owed money on furniture I never had.

My my major problem is that they never called my home or cell phone to let me know this had happened. The lady on the phone was very short with me and just told me to come and get my money and there was nothing else they can do. Now I have no furniture or bed in my bedroom. I called customer service and was told they will have someone call me back. I, 74, again and on a fixed income, now have nothing. Please help. After the promotion was over, I began paying for my laptop, which was almost $90.00 every two weeks. When Friday came, they blew my phone up to request payment; saying if not paid by Friday, they will be knocking on my door by Saturday morning. I called and told them that I found a similar laptop at Aarons Sale and Lease for $80.00 a month! So, I told them to come and get it, so I can go to Aarons. The sales associate, Kay (very nice), worked it out; where she matched the price. Great, I was happy. Then it all went bad.

I went on vacation; I was late making the payment because I was out of town. I got a call from my daughter stating that "FRANK", the manager, came to my home demanding payment or the laptop. I talked to Frank on the phone; he was very nasty and disrespectful. He was talking in a so nasty tone that I told him to come, pick up his property. I couldn’t wait for him to come and get it. So, I dropped it off. Needless to say, we had a verbal altercation; he accused me of lying and hiding in my home when he came. With raised voices (his), I said, "You have a horrible customer service!" I could not believe this man talked to me the way he did. I don’t even allow my husband talk to me that way!

He drove 2 hours to bring it to me. After he left, I went to try it out. When I hooked it up and turned it on, all I could hear is the sound of it coming on but no video would show. I double checked to see if it was plugged in right and tried it again. It did the same. I took it to another TV and hooked it up. I got the same result.

I decided that it was the AV cable (audio/video). I went and bought a new one. When I got back home, I hooked it up to yet another TV with the new cable I just bought. I got the same result. I called my brother up and asked what we could do. He said to see if I could take it to a Rent-A-Center out in Illinois and they could repair it or swap it out using some number of the receipt that he has for the purchase.

I'm mad that Rent-A-Center didn't even check to see if the Playstation 3 worked before they rented it to him. Plus, aren't they supposed to rent him a new Playstation 3 if he was renting to buy? Can anyone tell me if they can swap it out or repair it if he rented it in a different state?

Around the end of January 2011, my mother and I went to the Rent-A-Center in Winnsboro, SC, where we purchased a living room set and end tables for my new apartment. We decided that we wouldn’t pay for the entire bedroom set at that time but we would pay half and do a 90-day same as cash for the other half.

My mother decided to put the bedroom set in her name since it was 90-day same as cash and it would be paid off soon. The bedroom set was a little over $800 and I was paying on it regularly until I missed a payment. After that one missed payment, the harassing phone calls started to my mother’s home, where the furniture wasn’t even located because they delivered it to my apartment in Columbia, SC.

My mother called me and told me that Rent-A-Center called and said I owed a minimum of $140. I said that was fine, so I called to make an over the phone payment. When I asked how much I owed, they replied $180. And I responded how that is so when you just called my mother and said I owed $140. So they paused for a moment and said yes it is $140.

So I paid it and, after a series of payments, I missed another one. Rent-A-Center sent their workers to my mother's home again and said that the minimum payment was $180. When I called a few days later, when I could get back to Winnsboro, they told me I owed them $394. So I said how that is possible when you guys just came to my mother’s house and said $180. He replied that the price goes up every day and that the $394 was just the price for today and that it would be more the next day.

So I said okay and told them to put my name on the account as well with my mother's, because the furniture was at my home. When they added me to the account, they asked if I was going to make a payment today. I told them I don’t have $400 to give them today because, of course, they wanted it in full.

Today we received a letter from a law firm saying they would take my mother to court because of the furniture or I was to return it within 10 days from the date of the letter. I called to see how much I owed so that we could go ahead and pay them and get it over with. They told me I owed $310.18. I asked how it could be that I now owe $310.18 when you told me last Friday that I owed $394. He said that someone else told me that. So I asked well who he was. He said that he was the financial manager and I said that you are the person that I spoke with the last time and you told me that I owed $394, not anyone else.

So he went on to say that I should be happy that he is giving me $84 off because if he takes me to court, he is getting court cost, back payment, and another payment. So I told him that I was going to file a complaint, that they were getting over on us and that someone is trying to cheat us because every time I call I’m getting different prices.

I also told him that I needed to come over to talk to him because there was no way that I owed $180 then $394 and now, I owe $310.18. I then told him not to call back harassing me and my mother because she doesn’t have the furniture and I hung up. He called back on another number saying that if I came over there, that he had something for me. I then told him that he is now threatening me and that I would call the police.

He hung up the phone and called back. He spoke with my sister and she told him not to call back because he was threatening us and that we would call the police. A few minutes later, we received a phone call from Sharon Kennedy's cell phone and my mother told her that her employee was harassing us. She also told her what was said and that if he called back, she would call the police and she then hung up.

The furniture that we purchased, all but the biggest end table, was very used and the recliner was broken at the back. It was never fixed and it was never cleaned, which we were promised it would be. The bedroom set, however, was very used as well and had many scratches on every piece. And we found out when I moved, that the bed was never put together and the rails were never screwed into the headboard and because of that the headboard fell on my back.

The manager of the Los Angeles store, located on Imperial Highway, got a dirty sock, spit on it, and placed it on my door knob. And though it was a joke all the while, I refused to answer the door due to the idiots, and paid $600 for my furniture bill. They claimed they got only $200. The money was paid in-store and by cash payment. I refused to give back the furniture, until my bill is corrected and made right. Then, I added used tables and used TV stand, which is not over $170.00. They raised the price to $292 every two weeks, without explanation. So, I refused to give up the merchandise until I get the corrected bill; and they have harassed me to the point where I need to get a cease and desist order. My property is private, with signs posted and a locked gate. They have the code, so they do not obey the 'no trespassing' law.

Well, I spoke one day to a man called Mike at Rent-A-Center and he assured me that the person who was rude to me before had been moved to a different location and I would not have to deal with the rudeness and poor customer service they are very good at providing ever again. I reluctantly went in and I rented a 1000-watt stereo system to own (which I had to pick up in the next town) and a new AC in a box (which I took in my suburban).

So I go in on Monday. Because I am a nurse and I work long hours so I did not get out in time to make my payment on Saturday. The stupid kid named Leo (I guess that's short for something he had trouble spelling as a child), who apparently has no type of customer service experience, makes a stupid comment and says, "Wow. It was your first payment due and you are already late!" I replied, "It does appear that way, doesn't it?" Well, he tried to collect a two-week payment and I told him I was going to pay a week and I will be back on Saturday to make the other week. He says,"But we set you up on a two-week payment plan." I replied, "I am aware of that because I was there when it happened. Now, do you want the one week or not?" He says, "Honestly, no!"

I told him then, "Pick up your ** and I will keep my money in my pocket!" So, he agreed that they would pick it up. Five minutes later, I called Aaron's Sales and Lease where I have several other items, and I asked them if they have ACs. They replied, "Yes, ma'am, Mrs. **. We sure do." So for anyone who thinks Rent-A-Center is the place to go, you are so wrong and the bad thing is that their customer service is so disgraceful. I would not send my worst enemy there. Rent-A-Center needs to hire happy, upbeat people who are happy with their jobs; not little boys, like Leo, who have no idea how to make customers happy. He could have taken the payment for the week. I have paid for many items from that company. I know how it works and I also know that I will never shop there again.

He got angry saying his uncle was an attorney and all they needed was three things at the top of the contract to sue me. I told him I had worked for attorneys and he didn't know what he was talking about. I told him to leave my property. He continued to verbalize again and I said if he wasn't leaving in 5 seconds, I was calling the police and charging him with trespassing. I cannot believe the treatment I got.

I asked numerous times if they could give me a replacement and they said they couldn't because I already had paid the laptop off which it just sits on the shelf and I think they should give me back my money. I didn't pay a lot of money to leave the laptop sit on the shelf like an ornament.

In April of 2008, I went to rent a center to get a computer. They had a Dell with a flat screen monitor for rent for $75 every two weeks. I paid the fees until June 2009 when I was put on a medical leave and I only had a few payments left on the contract. They told me because I was on leave that they will come and take the computer and hold it for me until I was off the medical leave and that I could finish paying it off when I returned to work.

I returned to work and when I could pick up the final payments, I went to rent a center to get my computer back and they told me that it was resold and that they will give me a different computer which was much cheaper than my Dell and that they will just take the money I paid for the Dell on to this Compaq computer and now they are saying that we still owe $300 dollars on this one. They keep harassing us and our family, even calling my landlord on trying to take the computer back. We now received a letter threatening us to return the computer so they can resell it and get the full price again. We have paid them $2850 for a computer, from 2008 until present.

We have rented multiple items from this rent a center, paid many items off in cash within 90 days, and spent thousands of dollars in this store. Being who I am, I am always looking up laws, especially on businesses like this. For one, in the state of California it is illegal for one business to make verbal threats. We have paid for customer insurance, and still, months later, never received any package on what benefits we were paying for or why the ** we were wasting money on this so called "customer benefits".

We were late this month on our items, and I have received letters from this Rent-A-Center. Not one of them have ever been signed by anyone. My mother has told them to stop calling her house, and after being told this, they continue to call. I am, as well as my mother, considering this harassment. Again, this is illegal in California.

On March 11, 2011, my mother received another phone call. While on this call, she received a verbal threat which is illegal in the state of California again! I don't care what any ignorant person says out there, even Rent-A-Center. Defaulting on your payments is not a "theft charge" by any means. It is a "breach of contract". A civil matter **! Rent-A-Center will not make threats to me or my family in any way without me taking it to the legal system. I will protect what is mine and my family's, and If I feel that my family is in danger due to threats of Rent-A-Center, I will file charges against this company.

A few seconds later, someone came on the phone and said and I quote: "give the card number" with an attitude. So I gave this person all my payment information .Usually I wait to get a confirmation #. No, he didn't do that. Once he was finished, he hung up the phone very rudely.

I called back twice to speak with the Manager and this Lenny person got on the phone trying to justify his actions. I called again and this time, Rafael, "the manager" got on the phone and I proceeded to speak my complaints. It's a shame that after almost 20 years that I have been a Rent-A-Center customer, I was treated so rudely. My advice, get workers with some college education and some sort of respect for the clients who are the ones that pay their salaries.

Early in October 2010, I went to the local Rent-A-Center in Monticello NY. I placed a new Ashley living room set on order and the sales woman informed me that it would take 2-3 weeks before the living room set was delivered to the store I had no problem with that because of the fact that I wasn’t fully moved in my apartment yet.

Two weeks later I went back into the store and opened a rental agreement on a used Ashley Bedroom set. The bedroom set was delivered three days later without a problem. Two weeks after that I called the rent a center to see if my living room set was in and it was.

I had arranged for the living room set to be delivered the following week. When the furniture was delivered it was wrapped in plastic wrap & I asked the delivered men to please leave the wrapping on because of the fact I wasn’t fully moved in. They agreed and left.

Mid-November I was ready to move in and my husband and I removed the plastic wrapping from the sofas. Not a second later, I went to sit down and realized the love seat was broken. The next day, I called rent-a-center and asked if someone can please come out and take a look at my sofa. The man on the phone said he would send someone out the next day. The next day came and went and there was no sign of rent-a-center. The following day, I called them back and the man apologized and told me they were very busy and they would send someone out within the next 2 days. Again, I had no problem with it.

Weeks went by and still no sign of rent-a-center. That Tuesday, the payment was due and I had no problem with making the payment. Again, I asked for someone to please come and at least look at the sofa the man said; “yes we will send someone over”. I still got nothing. I got fed up and called the 1800 number and reported them. That same day, they sent someone out. The man who came to my house said yes the sofa was broken and he was going to put a replacement on order and that would take the most 2 weeks to arrive.

To make a long story short a month had gone by and still no replacement. Please note that within the month, e very Tuesday I’ve been making payments on the bedroom set. I refused to pay for the sofa until they made the repairs. I made a few arrangements for them to come and pick up the furniture and they never came.

A few days ago I received a letter from them threatening to take legal action against me because I had not returned the furniture not once did I not allow them to pickup the furniture. I called the 1800 once again and they told me they would take care of this.

Saturday morning, rent a center calls my house. This is when the Manager Tom refuses to give me the replacement and demands that I give him back all his furniture including the bedroom set that I’ve been paying for. I got upset and told them to come and pick up the furniture that I was placing it in the drive way that I did not want to deal with the company anymore he then hung up on me. My family and I took out all the furniture and placed it in my drive way.

40 minutes later, rent-a-center knocks on my door asking for the furniture I told them that it was in the drive way. They told me it wasn't. I feel in my heart that they loaded the furniture onto the truck but on orders from Tom they had to come and harass me some more. I cannot deal with the stress.

Yesterday night, Rent-A-Center calls me and my sister’s house (I don’t even know how they even got hold of her number) Tom then began to call me a liar and telling me I was going to go to jail for stealing. I need to find a lawyer now because this issue is only getting worse by the day. I cry at night because I cannot take this stress any more. I am being accused of something I did not do.

I've been renting from Rent-A-Center since 2005. The policy was if you were a week late, you pay a $5 late fee, which is not bad since the price is double the actual price of the item. Anyway, in July of 2009, I rented 3 items which I paid $98 per week. The most I ever was late was two weeks. Today, as we speak, is January 19 2011. According to the agreement that I signed on the day, I got the item I was supposed to finish paying by October of 2010. Not to mention whenever I call the store or go check on my balance, it's always going up.

I am writing this because the next step I will take is to go on one of the TV stations to see what's the problem with this company. The manager of the store threatened to call the cops on me and tell them I stole the items. He called my references and told them also. When I spoke to him on the phone he told me that. I made a complaint about him but nothing was done.

I then went into the store and told them. They told me that I could exchange the one I had for a new one. I said okay and they put in an order for me. A month later, I still had no new TV so I went back to the store and they said that they didn't have one, that they had to order one. I told them that that was the same thing they told me before. I just shrugged it off and told them to order it.

In November, I went back to the store and asked about my TV. They told me that they didn't have any in. I asked to speak with someone in charge of the store. That is when I spoke with the store manager and he assured me that he placed the order for me and to check back in a couple of weeks. My husband went in and asked and they told him that they would call us when they did have one.

I went in on 3 Jan 11 to give a payment and I told them that that would be the last payment I was making. I told them that I was tired of paying and constantly asking about the TV so I asked if they want to make an appointment with me for next Monday so they could pick up the TV set. They asked why. I told them that I was tired of their ** and they said to me, "Oh, we have one in right now, how about we deliver this one out to you tomorrow?" I said fine.

I waited all day Tuesday. I even called them a few times to see where they were. I was told that they would be here before six. I called them back and told them that my son-in-law was leaving and that nobody would be here to help them. I was told that they did not need help. I said okay. At 6:30 there was still no TV. Finally, at 6:35, the delivery guy calls me and says that he is on his way. I said, "Cool." He then asked me if anyone here could help them with the TV. I told him no and that I was told that they did not need help. He then told me that they could not bring the TV until tomorrow. Oh, was I mad. I said fine. Then, he assured me that I would be the first delivery on his roster for the next morning (Wednesday). I said okay.

I called my doctor's office the next morning and canceled my appointment for late in the evening. They said okay and my new visit was at 4:15. I said okay. I waited for them to deliver the TV like they had said. Guess what? No TV. I called them just before 3:00. I called them again and they told me that they were on their way. An hour passed but there was still no TV. My husband had to go to work and I had to call and cancel my doctor's appointment again.

After I was off the phone with my doctor, I then called the store again. This time, I am really mad like you would not believe. I was told that they would be here within an hour. It is now 5:00 and still no TV. I do not think anyone should go through this kind of **. I stated that as our payment is not due until the end of the day I could go in at anytime during business hours today to pay it. I was then informed that it was company policy to call and demand a specific payment time on the day the payment is due not after.

As we were going shopping and meeting people, I explained to him that I could not give him an exact time and that I would be in before closing to make our $15 payment. He then got very rude and said that was a *** answer and demanded a specific time again. Mind you, we are not late at all and current on all our payments.

They are trying to take it back now that we have it almost paid off. I feel they just want to rent it to someone else to get the full price all over again. I never received the TV or a call from anyone at the store. Nearly 10 days later, I went to the store and was not given a reason other than being short-staffed that I did not receive a call or my merchandise in almost 2 weeks. Other deliveries were made in those 2 weeks but not mine for some reason.

The store manager did not give me a valid reason for the delivery not being made or why I was never contacted after my initial visit to the store. I felt very uneasy and uncomfortable by the sales and store manager. I let them know that I was dissatisfied with their service and would be canceling my contract and getting a refund. The store manager seemed highly irritated with my request. The sales manager who initially handled my contract did not speak to me the whole time I was there and the store manager had another sales associate handle my refund. I left feeling like I had been treated differently and frustrated because of it. All I could think of was why? I was informed by an employee there that the managers did not care for gay people. So now, I was getting the big picture about what was happening.

About a month later, I received a friend request on Facebook from the same sales manager who had not spoken a word to me since I signed the contract. My settings on Facebook is private and I do not use my real name. He and I had no mutual friends so I was little scared, confused and angry with the idea of this man contacting me and invading my privacy. I wondered if he had used my customer information in my file there even though it was supposed to be shredded after I canceled my contract. I also felt that it was very unprofessional and discriminatory towards me because of my appearance and orientation.

We have been customers of RAC in Carson City, Nevada for over 2 years; satisfying one account in full and coming to the end of the second account at the time of this complaint. The reason for this complaint is the lack of professionalism displayed by all RAC employees. On the morning our payment was due, the RAC employees began calling first thing in the morning stating that it is just a "courtesy" call but then continued to call 5-6 times throughout the day, not allowing us to make the payment voluntarily. RAC will then continue to call you everyday, several times a day from multiple numbers and never the same number twice in the same day.

Whenever we are in a difficult situation and we try explaining, RAC will just continue to argue with me or my girlfriend, making all kinds of outrageous suggestions in order to get their payment such as "can you borrow money from anyone?" or "is there someone whose credit card you can use?". The TVs that we purchased are located in our place of business and on multiple occasions, the RAC manager, Chris **, and an employee have entered my business during peak business hours and have disrupted our business, threatening to take our TVs, arguing with our employee in front of customers and also threatening to call the cops.

I have repeatedly asked them not to come to our business and yet they continue to ignore me. Our account has never gone more than 7 days late and RAC says that their policy is to take the equipment if the payment goes past 7days. Well in this economy, things can get really tough and RAC does not value their customers enough to have any understanding. Our most recent encounter with RAC was this morning, Saturday 11/20/2010. This morning, I contacted RAC to make our payment. I explained that I could make the payment in full on that Monday over the phone when a deposit we made cleared or they could send someone by that day to pick up the payment in cash. Jen, the employee of RAC, went on to say that she could not pick up the payment nor could we make the payment on Monday and that we have to come into the store today or our TVs will be picked up. She also said that our payments are supposed to be made weekly and that we were already 7 days late.

Well, when we purchased the TVs, we had structured our payments for twice a month. Apparently, RAC took it upon themselves to restructure our payment arrangement. We have nearly satisfied this second account in full and RAC is still threatening to repossess our TVs. RAC is the worst establishment to do business with and we will never purchase from RAC ever again. We also discourage anyone who is thinking of purchasing from RAC not to, it is not worth the harassment.

I will never again deal with this company and I will continue to complain and spread the word to anyone who tries to buy or rent from this place.

This is the rent a center on Squire ave. Revere MA. Anyone reading this do believe what you're reading. I have so many stories about rent a center. I'm not sure where to start. 1st off let me start by saying you have plenty of options besides these con artists. If you're looking for a computer you can buy a net book for $299+ at Walmart. You can get a nice LED TV at Walmart for around the same price. If you don't have the money all at once, go to QVC.com HSN.com Shopnbc.com and they offer flex pay! You can get a 32' top of the line TV on value pay for like $99 a month for 5 months and you're done! These channels have all sorts of daily specials on everything from TV's, iPod touch, Stereo, Nintendo Wii, computers, the list goes on! You can pay every month instead of ever week, and you actually get good deals on quality items without paying 3x what it's worth.

If you need a living room set, you can go on Craigslist and find leather sofas for $100! All you need to do is pick it up. Now for my Rent a center horror stories. I was dumb enough to rent stuff from them. I really needed a computer, and I had no idea back then the other options to buy one. I was told the computer would cost me $24 a week. It ended up being almost $29. I was told it would be a certain number of weeks. Those weeks came, I ended up paying $1300 for a used computer! I knew the contract was up and I was supposed to own it. They told me I still owe 8 weeks which I knew wasn't possible.

Not only are they liars but they're classless stalkers that call you over and over and over.

Right before I thought my computer was paid off, they had a special going on, it was something like 3 weeks free on any item. I figured since my computer was soon to be paid off, I'd try out a new bed since mine was so hard and lumbar. Now this part cracks me up. I had moved about 45 miles away so I didn't live close to the rent a center that I had been dealing and got my computer from. They offered to drive down here with my new bed (about a 45 min drive) they said, oh no don't go to your local rent a canter. Deal with us because you're out customer. I said fine, OK I'll try out the bed from you and if I like it at the end of the 3 weeks I'll start paying. They brought me the bed, everything's fine.

Now mind you, my computer was supposed to be paid off for the 1st week, the bed payment would of been due. I got into it with them when they called me, and told me I still have 8 weeks left. I know for a fact I don't. But you guys know how these people are. They twist and add logic that doesn't add up, just to scam people. I told them, I'm not paying another penny for the computer and told them to come pick up their bed. They told me I need to bring them the bed! LOL. Yea, I'm gonna bring them a queen size bed, frame, box spring. Do I have a ** moving van? I'm a women on top of that. How the heck am I supposed to move it? LOL they are real tools.

I told them fine it's mine if you don't pick it up. They tried and boss me around when they have the time to pick it up. They gave me a time frame. I think it was like 4-6 on a Friday night. I agreed. Then they didn't shop up! I call them and they told me their drivers couldn't make it out there. I said fine, then you can get it Monday after 5pm. They toldl me they have to charge me for a week LOL ** no. These people are 100% totally insane. All I can remember after that is I didn't pay them a single penny for that bed. All I know is they try to intimidate people, especially females.

In the contract agreement, it clearly states that if your product gets broken while under contract, the company will fix or replace it. I rented a bedroom suit from them and I never missed a payment and I also paid it off with the 90 day same as cash. But before my contract was up, I called to let them know that both light switches on the bed and the mirror wasn't working.

They sent out someone to my home and he couldn't fix it and I was told they would send a service man out to my home. No one ever came, so I went into the store and talked to the manager and I was told once again that someone would come fix it. Still haven't seen that person yet. I called the 1 800 number to file a complaint but still no one has come to fix it. That's bad business. That's why, I would rather deal with Bestway Rentals.

I still owe $777.97. I found out only $30.00 goes towards the furniture. That is a total rip-off. People intend to pay, but you never finish paying.

They should be investigated and shut down for robbing the poor. Ashely Furniture is supposed to be a reputable store, but they have a racket going on there. By the way, they call themselves RAC Acceptance. I guess that means they “rac” up and we accept it. They send no monthly statements; you never know how much you owe. How can I make a $300 payment and only $60.00 goes towards the furniture? Please investigate.

My credit card number was stolen and charges were made to my card via fraud. I had to cancel the card and I am waiting to receive my new card. As of today Saturday, 10/30/2010, the new card has not come yet. My payment was due to Rent-A-Center last Saturday. I called them and explained the situation and so did my mother due to the fact that I am in the hospital recovering from back surgery.

Even though I explained the situation to them and as soon as I received my new card, I would pay the account up in full. They went to my in-laws’ house unannounced, banging on their doors and demanding payment for the merchandise even tough I had already spoken to the store manager explaining the situation. I have been a customer there a long time and they are treating me as if I was a thief and they are calling my friends and family’s numbers at a minimum of 5 times a day and my phone about 10 times.

At 4:00 pm today, they showed up at my in-laws’ house banging on doors and windows and demanding payment or they would repo merchandise. These people are out of control and are now what I consider harassing both me and my partner’s friends and family by calling them and showing up at people’s houses over a payment that is only a week late. Even after my mother spoke to them and explained as soon as we receive the new card, we would bring the account up to date. I don’t appreciate the harassing phone calls and the unannounced visits over a payment that is a week late, especially since I spoke to them! I have not even received any letters from them. And I don’t think they should be able to just show up at anyone’s house or make numerous phone calls to all different people telling them about what the call is in regards to that. It is my private business.

My father just had a heart attack a few moths ago and they were there banging on his door like nuts. It’s not right. There are laws is NJ that they feel they don’t have to follow. Also, I am hospitalized and trying to recover and my phone is ringing off the wall. These people are nuts and I have had my account with them for several years. I don't appreciate my family and friends being harassed over a $216.00 payment.

They did a messy job on it because now is worst than before and they don't want to change my TV or reimburse me back what I paid for it.

I really need help because I paid $4, 381 for a broken TV. I think they should let me know that this TV was damaged before a made the full payment. Can some one please tell me what I have to do? I tried calling, but the manager always hides. He's never there when I go in person and the same thing I need help, these people can't be selling broken items. It is not fair, the TV is a Sony model #KDF50E20000. I called the Sony company and they came to see the TV, which I had to pay them to just to come and see the TV, and they told me to return it back. But the Rent-A-Center manager doesn't want to talk to me, so I come here to get help.

I went to Rent-a-Center 2 weeks ago to rent a laptop. Well, the 1st one I got was brand new. That was great. I didn't like the laptop so I called the office and asked if I could get a different one; that was on a Monday. They said, "Yes, we can give you the new one on Thursday." I said. "Okay, great." Now the brand new laptop, the first one, was like $1,900. On Thursday, when I went to go get the different laptop, I looked at the price as it was used. It was like $400 more than the new one that was not used.

Why was this computer costing more? Also the payments were 20 dollars more a week than the new was. Also if they do not run a credit check, they should not ask for your ssn. Today is Saturday, the day my payment is due and it's only 9 am. I received 4 calls asking me when I was coming to make payment. All calls were made to me within 2 hours. I think everyone that has a bad experience with this company should report them a lot further than just here and report them to Better Business Bureau.Thank you. So, I asked for a replacement one until my coffee table came in they didn't have any. I then decided to order a washing machine which was in the store in the box the order was successful and I was told that I would receive it tomorrow, 10/14/10

I called and called and was continuously told that I would receive my washing machine between the hours of 1pm and 5pm. I still have not received my washer. It is now 5:35pm. Every time I place an order, they are never organized my order and do not come when they need to and it's terrible. I'm upset because I need my washing machine as well as my coffee table the quality and wood of the table was very cheap there was no reason my table should have broken like that and as for my delivery it sucks. It makes me want to return all of my furniture and never do business with them again and they can never come when they are supposed to and I guarantee you that I probably won't receive my washer until tomorrow 10/15/10. I paid for that week and after that, I thought the payments would go back to bi-weekly sign up. But instead, they changed to weekly and I explained to them at sign up that I get paid every two weeks. They called and I explained to them that I did not understand why they were calling. The lady Tara then decided, after she called me 3 more times, that she would show up at my job. I was not there, so she left her card. I paid online because the store is far away, so I assumed the payment online was what I needed to pay but apparently not because Tara showed up at my job again! I was busy, my manager was not happy and sent me home early and wrote me up!

I do not think they have the right to jeopardize my job because then, how will I pay anything? The product I have is a laptop and I use it for school. If I needed to be contacted personally, it would have been beneficial to come to my house instead of my workplace, Zaxbys. I came in after I was sent home to fix the problem, which I paid my overdue fee. No problem. The nice lady and gentleman were explaining it to me, I walked out and saw the lady Tara shaking her head as if I was a problem customer. I didn't say anything to her. I asked where I needed to go to file this complaint.

This company is ripping off people like me who are in desperate need off appliances for everyday use. They charged high interest by the time it's paid up, the pieces of furniture are worth three times than the regular price. Then, they harass their customers if they are late even just a day. They threatened their customers to pick up the merchandise if you cannot pay. Like me, I only owed a piece of dinette $220 after I have been paying for months and to think of it, your payment tripled compared to the regular amount of the merchandise.

And, because I have only a balance of $220 and was late in paying, they picked up the merchandise and they resell it. They make money not only the resell price but all the interest and part of the principal I had been paying for months. Ain't that a rip-off? They took the merchandise despite my offer at least to let me pay 1/2 of the balance and the rest by next payday. That way, I have only $100 balance but they choose to take it back for one reason and nothing else because they can resell it more than $200, which was my balance at that time. These kind of businesses should be stopped.

I rented a tile top table which was used, and supposed to be on sale. I paid over $300 for the table that includes taxes, and then came across some financial problems and I missed a payment. I called to explain my situation, because they advertise if you have problems making a payment, they will work with you. Well, I called and told them when I would be able to make a payment and they said that wouldn't work, that they wanted their merchandise back. So I told them to come to my house tomorrow afternoon and pick it up around 12noon.

The next day they came to my house around 11am, my sister said, and I was not yet home. My sister told me they were banging on my door, ringing the doorbell over and over, banging on the window. So then around 2:30pm they showed up again, and I was upstairs, using a rug scrubber and couldn't hear them and my daughters came upstairs saying, “Mommy, there's some guys banging on the door”. So I looked out the window, but I didn't see their truck. I saw some guy in a Steelers jersey and some jeans so I told my girls to get away from the door.

Then I went downstairs, told them I had the money to pay them and I would bring it up to the store and the manager dressed in the Steelers shirt said, “There is no paying. We want our merchandise and we want it now.” At this point I was pretty upset, and said about them trying to rip me off which they did, and they can just pick the table up on Monday because I wasn't letting them in my house with no one else there, but me. They demanded me to let them in. I felt so uncomfortable. I said, “My dog is out right now. Please just come back, because I don't want anyone to get hurt in my house.”

The manager said, “Who cares?”, and I said, “I do, because I don't need someone getting bit or what not”. Then I tried closing my window which I was talking to them out of and the manger shoved it back up and held open as I was trying to shut it. He said, “You're gonna regret this”, and I said, “I will give you your table back, but not right now after all of this.”

I recently got laid off from work and about a month later my wife was terminated from her job but we managed to make timely payments. She tried to explain to them that she would get one week payment the week before she gets her first check but the woman who spoke to her refused to accept the one week payment.

She kept insisting on 2 weeks payment and she said, "That's the problem with you people. You get merchandise and don't want to pay!" My wife got very upset because we've been customers with them for a long time and we've paid off on all merchandise we bought from them but they don't take that into consideration. We had good relations with a few people in that store but they get new employees and they seem to lack the people skills. When we pay off these accounts, we will take our business elsewhere. I’m a single female, disabled parent of a 12-year-old son who is also disabled, born with Down syndrome. I live in an apartment, in which I share the front entrance with my neighbor, an elderly woman who lives alone. On July 20, 2010, Ethan, the store manager located at Buffalo, NY, came to my home at 7:00 pm. I was upstairs with my son preparing him to go to bed. I heard loud banging outside the front door. I went to the window to look out. There stood Ethan with a large wrench in his hand and another employee.

I opened the window and asked him why he was hitting my door with the wrench. He began saying that he came to pick up the washer and dryer because I didn’t pay my bill. I told him he did not know what he was talking about, that the bill was paid today at 6:20 pm. I asked him why he didn’t check his records before coming over to my house. He continued talking loud saying that I hadn’t paid, and that he was going to call the police and have me arrested if I didn’t let him inside my house to pick up the washer and dryer. My son heard what Ethan said and Lerone began crying, because he heard that I was going to be arrested. He also stated that once I was arrested that it would be grounds for me to be evicted from my home. My neighbors were looking out of their windows listening. I told him he did not know what he was talking about. This conversation kept on for about 10 minutes.

As I was talking to him, I tried to call the store but they closed at 7:00 pm. At that point, I called. I asked Ethan for the district manager’s phone number and he stated that he did not know it. I called the 1-800 number for customer service and told them exactly what was going on outside my door. At that point, I filed a complaint. I then looked through my phone numbers and found John **, the district manager’s number. I called him and told him exactly what Ethan was doing outside my door.

While I was talking to John, Ethan was saying that I needed to pay my bill, and that I better open the door. As soon as I hung up from John, he called Ethan and had him leave my door. This process lasted for 20-30 minutes. The following day, John called me to discuss my account. At no point in time did he apologize for his employee’s actions. Yet, he did give me some free weeks of non-payment. I also stated to him that Ethan has continually harassed me, and that I do not want any further contact with him. John assured me that this could be arranged and that I would not have any contact with Ethan.

At another time which happened on a Wednesday morning, at 9:45 am I turned my telephone off to attend Bible class, which was only for 1 hour. At 11:05 when I turned my phone back on, I had a voicemail from Ethan. I called him and once again, we had words. I stated to him that John told me that I would not have any more dealing with Ethan, that another employee would be handling my account, and why was he calling me. Ethan stated that he would call me and come to my house whenever he wanted to. I immediately hung up. I didn’t want to discuss anything with him at church.

When I got home around 12:00 pm, I received a telephone call from my sister who is a nurse that works nights and lives in South Carolina. She stated that Ethan called her and woke her up at 10:15 am regarding my account. I received another call from Carolyn ** who lives in Buffalo. She stated that Ethan called her on her cell phone while she was at work around 10:30 am regarding my account. I also received another call from Tracy **. She also stated that Ethan called her at work on her cell phone around 10:35 am regarding my account.

Ethan would call my phone one time after the other. As soon as I would answer each of the phone calls, he would hang up and call right back. This would happen at least five or six times a day. I would answer the phone and tell him that he is harassing me. I also stated to him that I’m now keeping record of the times that he is calling me. Please see below. If you could review the telephone records of Rent A Center, you would see that this is just three of the numerous days that he has called me with this pattern.

I called the store one morning and spoke with Ethan. I stated that the 90 days for the wash machine is coming up. I said that I wanted to settle this account and that I wanted to return the computer because it isn’t working properly. I asked him to talk to John and find out what type of arrangement could be made. Ethan called me back within an hour and stated that John stated that this could be arranged for $150.00. I would receive a credit of $100.00 for returning the computer and I would have to pay a balance of $50.00. I told Ethan that I would have to think about it.

The following day, John called me directly. I told him what Ethan said he told him. John stated that he did not tell Ethan anything. I told him that the computer was not working properly. I said that I would have to boot up 2 or 3 times before the computer would turn on correctly. John stated, “Oh, how conveniently.” I told him when I received the computer, I got a Dell hard drive tower, an Acer monitor, and 2 used Gateway speaker with no turn on knob. I did not receive a mouse or pad, keyboard, and printer, which I was told when I requested the computer that I would get.

On Friday August 20th, I received a call from Ethan at 9:20 am. He stated that he called my landlord about my account. He stated that I’m going to be evicted. I told him he had no right discussing my account or calling my landlord. I also stated that once again, he was harassing me. At that point, I hung up and called the 1-800 number for Rent A Center and made another report and asked to speak to the regional manager. I also contacted the Consumer Protection/Federal Trade Commission who referred me to the Attorney General. The following day, Mr. Evin **, the regional manager, contacted me by telephone. I discussed the events which have happened with Ethan.

I told him that Ethan stated that he was going to get me evicted and had contacted my landlord. He stated that Ethan had indicated that Rent A Center stated on my account record that they had not been in contact with me since August 9, 2010. This means that Ethan had falsely keep records on my account. I do feel that this company has harassed me. Being a single disabled parent and having a disabled son, I do not feel safe from Rent A Center employee Ethan.

I went in to rent a center to find a washer that I needed since mine broke, after looking with no acknowledgement for a while I picked one and spoke to a lady and then to Carl to see what was needed. I filled out there extremely lengthy application, which they shouldn’t need all that personal information if it’s no credit check.

So I went thru the application with the girl, I and my mother were both present, paid for the weekly rate of $14.16 to ensure delivery. Set up the delivery time for Friday between 1-3pm and I ordered the washer on a Tuesday. Explained to the girl that if we were paying every 2 weeks why was the price higher, then the one week she couldn’t give me an answer why we were being overcharged, but against my better judgment I went ahead with the delivery time anyway and paid the weekly amount.

So on delivery day I wait and wait, excited to get a new washer, its 1pm no one’s here, its 2pm no one, finally its 4pm and I have to be leaving to work at 4:30pm and still no one. Well I guess they called but I didn’t receive the message until about 1:30am the next morning. So now it’s Saturday and I call them at 10 am they say they couldn’t get a hold of 2 numbers they had so they couldn’t deliver on the delivery promise time, even though they accepted payment with no questions asked.

So I tell the employee Carl what do you mean its suppose to be no credit needed, you pay the money and receive the product, he says no every reference has to be checked before any product is delivered. I tell him fine, but those should be checked in a timely manner and not between 2:30pm and 3pm when they purposely called to say they weren’t delivering even though you already took money for the product and were already suppose to be here at those times.

When I question this, he becomes very rude, and telling me that I need to listen to him cause I’ve spoken already. I laughed and gave him more info, like an **, just wanting to receive the washer that was supposed to be here yesterday, he says he'll call me back I wait an hour, nothing, So I call and ask for Carl, oh give me 30 minutes, no call for about 45 minutes and he says oh everything looks good with the references but we still have to wait for one to call us back. I’m very frustrated at this point, already ** off that I’m getting the run around, paid money, spent time that I don’t have waiting for someone to come, and still I have no washer, talk about an inconvenience,

At this point had enough when I questioned again about why it’s such a hassle, I paid money and haven’t received anything, he says it’s the way it is. I told him it should have been done prior to setting up a delivery time and prior to taking any payment. He couldn’t respond to this and I simply declined to wait any further for him to get confirmation from any more of my friends and family. It’s really simply if you think about it, I pay you money, if I don’t pay then pick up your ** I told him, and then I just said I was done with the rent a center experience and if it’s this bad now then how will it be next month, no thank you and I don’t want to wait any longer. I need a washer now not when you feel like bringing it. I have waited patiently long enough and told him I would be in to get my refund, I’m going before work, hopefully this doesn’t take forever or I will be back to complain again. I don’t recommend this Stockton, CA Rent-A-Center, I don’t know if it’s the only one that’s got problems but don’t talk to Carl, cause he's surely not going to give you anything and I mean that, no product, no service, no smile, but he'll take your money.

My first bad experience well just about every experience I have had with this employee, Shane **, has been a terrible on. I rented a couch from rent a center in Franklin, Indiana. From the beginning, I started realizing this was going to be a nightmare. Shane ** would call me asking when I would be in to make a payment days before the payment was even due. I didn't find this to be necessary and was very rude as he did this. Then, I did become late on a payment by a week and they would call several times in a row to my home and work. They would go as far as calling once or twice within seconds of each other and when no one answered, they would block the call and do that several times in a row.

Once, Shane called my house from a personal cell phone of his about an hour to an hour and a half after the store was closed. I can't even say he was there. He was demanding saying he wouldn't accept but a certain amount of money and said he wouldn't even accept that he just wanted his couch back. During that call, he began yelling at me and I had put the call on speaker phone so my husband could be a witness to the conversation after he began yelling at me he called me a liar and a lot more vulgar names saying that I was basically a terrible human being.

I called his superior and, of course, there was no action taken and they denied it to the fullest extent. The next incident was this past Wednesday, when he and some other larger built man from the store showed up at my place of work while I was not there. But my elderly mother-in-law was and he was very intimidating to her. He stood in front of the door and he began calling me names saying I was a liar once again that I had no respect for anyone and that she should hate me and what kind of person was I for not taking care of my own business and putting everything off on her, which was not the case. I was extremely ill that day and couldn't even get out of bed with fever, etc. He even went in to detail of my account with her telling her amounts I was past due what I owed on the item I rented and she is no where on my paperwork as a reference or someone that can be talking on my account.

She called me later that night and said she went into respiratory distress over the way he talked to her and how threatening he was. I am just beyond disgusted with this place I have contacted the Indiana attorney general office the BBB and a personal attorney. I believe after dealing with all this harassment, my couch should be mine and this Shane G. should simply be fired and the head up management should be replaced for not doing their job. I always thought that in business, the customer comes first.

This caused damage to my electric box. If I had left the dryer plugged in, it would cause my house to burn up. I went in to make a payment on our weekly service agreement for a TV. We were 2 days late. I have been in Detroit and my husband just started a new job and gets called in and gets schedule changes on a daily basis. When I got to the counter and told the man that I wanted to make a one week payment, and I told him we were 2 days late. He looked up our information and asked the store manager standing next to him if we had a bi-weekly agreement, and I piped in to say no, it was weekly, and again that it was late.

The store manager then told him to change my date to Saturday, she didn't ask me, and she just made him change it. I asked her why. She then told me, "Obviously, Tuesday isn't good for you, and you get paid on Thursdays, right?" Then they told me what my balance was, which was over $50, and all the money I had left was $50, so I told them, "Well, since you changed my day to Saturday I guess you'll have to take this, and I’ll have to magically make money appear out of nowhere to pay the rest on Saturday.”

I was so angry. This particular store manager is rude to us every time we go in; we had an issue a few weeks ago with a different rental item. My husband had rented a PS3, and they didn't give him all the parts needed to use it. It was Memorial Day weekend, and he'd got it just before the store closed on Friday. Saturday morning he called them on his way to work to tell them what had happened and asked if he could get it taken care of on Tuesday (since they were closed the next 2 days for the holiday) and he was told it wouldn't be a problem.

He went in on Tuesday, and the store manager got lippy with him and told him that he should have brought it in on Saturday, even though he was told over the phone it would be taken care of on Tuesday. All he wanted was to not be charged for the 4 days of rental of a product he could not use. He kept his cool long enough to say that, and then some guy working in the back came out with his fists up in a fighting stance and told my husband, "You don't tell us what to do, we tell you what to do!"

Then my husband got very angry. He did swear a little and then left the store after demanding the district manager's number. He called the number and told them everything that happened, including him swearing at the guy, and a few days later we were given credit for the 4 days of rental. The manager there is very rude; she is snide and has no problem yelling at anyone. On top of this, when they couldn't get a hold of us recently to come in and make a payment, they called my husband's grandmother. How humiliating!

We are late sometimes, but we always pay them within 2 days of the date due. They have called us both at work. There is more than one Laura where I work, it just so happens that they talked to the wrong Laura and told her I needed to come make a payment or they were coming to our house to take the product back. How humiliating again. I understand they have to make money, but there is absolutely no reason to be treated this way by a company whose main concern is supposed to be customer service. My suggestion, find a different rental place. Any other non-corporate place will hopefully treat you with some semblance of respect. I am fed up with the service there.

But they don't know how to talk to people, they call you the day of your payment is due. They don't give you a chance to come in and pay. They call your friends and tell them that you owe them,or that you are late. They also told me that I was late and that if I paid a certain amount, that my payment would be due on the 23th of July. Now they call me on the 17th saying it was due then. I just think they are beating people out of there money. People sometimes can't help being late, or having to rent from them.

So all I am saying is that they need to learn how to treat people. Because if it wasn't for us, they wouldn't have a job. They need to work on there customer skills. Now she is telling me that she didn't tell us that. And that we were 4 days late so we had to pay a extra week.

He agreed to let the Hannibal store transfer the purchase over to Rent A Center in Quincy Illinois so we could make our payments there and they would agree to let me make weekly payments as I live closer to Quincy then Hannibal. Only reason I did not buy one from the Quincy store initially was because they had no a/c units available.

I paid $45 to the Hannibal store after filing out the contract agreement. We loaded up the a/c unit (please note) that the store manager in Hannibal (Blake) had told me this unit was previous owned and he did not check the unit before I left the store to make sure it was in good working condition. I contacted the Hannibal store and spoke to an employee who whom answered the phone and he stated the manager was not there but he would tell him in the morning. So I called Quincy Friday morning July 16th 2010 the very next day.

And the store manager said that he would take the a/c unit and will try to get me another unit as they had one nearby that was getting returned/repo. Because of everything that happened, I ended up having to declare bankruptcy and then they sold the house out from under me but that is another story.

So I go to the local Rent-A-Center and got a refrigerator. For a while it worked great then things started getting hot in the bottom section so I called only to be told (and I am handicapped) that is was not a self-defrosting refrigerator and needed to be defrosted which my helper did. We left it unplugged all night and the next day everything was back like before only now all of my food in the refrigerator has spoiled.

So I called Rent-A-Center (and I hope you are sitting down) they could not make it good because I had paid the refrigerator off before I should have and the longer I paid on it. the more guarantee I would have. So what they want to do is come get it and charge me forty dollars for the rent on another one for two weeks plus whatever it takes to fix this one up without any guarantee that it will work after they fix it.

I am a Senior Citizen on Medicare and I just cannot afford to go out every day and buy a new refrigerator but I need one in the worst way. So here I sit unable to buy a new one because of the bankruptcy and if I let Rent-A-Center take this one, there is no guarantee that it will work once they return it and I will always have to defrost it.

We took them their stuff back and have not dealt with them again. They took a grand total of 300 dollars and then took the items from our house. So now we are out the money and the items. It seems a shame to me that they are still getting away with this.

I told them that I would pay the next day but they told me I would have to take three payment or they will repossess the computer or take it in with $99.00. This constant threatening of taking the item and that they won't work with a debt behind not even for one day. Please stop this abuse. Please help me find out if what this store is doing to the poor is right and fair. I am a 62 year old woman living of disability. I needed to purchase a sofa and a TV for my living room but did not have the money to pay for it upon purchase. Someone spoke to me about Rent-A-Center so I went to them. Immediately, they fill you up with the idea that you can purchase anything from them without any credit check and with the ability to pay for it weekly/semi-monthly or monthly. Naturally, they make it look so nice that you fall right into it. I first purchase a sofa. If I paid for the sofa before 3 months, I would have to pay the amount of almost 2 sofas, if I did not pay it within the 90 days well you end up paying way over 2 times the price of the sofa.

Then stupid me needed a TV for my living room and the day that I went to make my last payment before the 90 days were up for the sofa I saw this 37 inch TV with DVD player on display. The manager told me it would cost me $1304.57 plus $12.40 tax with every payment you make. If I paid for the TV before the 90 days, again I would pay only $130.47 for the TV. If I went beyond the 90 days, I would actually end up paying $1,524.83 for a TV that is worth only $849.99. It is a 37 inch TV/DVD model number 37MD359B/37.

I need to know if this is legal. Also both items I purchased were floor models, yet they charged me the regular price and I've told that if it is a floor model they must charge me less for the items. Also, how much tax is on $1,304.57? I personally feel this people are robbing people and since we don't know they are getting away with it. Please help me.

When we called an exterminator out, and after they did some investigating, it was found that the roaches are coming from the blu-ray player!! We don't know if this was a previously owned item, but cockroaches can live inside electronics and be carried from home to home that way. Now we have a bug infested house and Rent-A-Center is saying it is not their problem.

On top of that, two females came to my house after 9pm. Vickie and Sheena were not even wearing Rent-A-Center attire, but driving a Rent-A-Center van. This whole situation was told to me by my girlfriend who was at my apartment during a brief visit and she said someone begun knocking at the door abruptly for 2-3 minutes and when she looked through the peep hole, this individual was knocking out of vision making her scared and suspicious.

When this person stop knocking, she came outside to see who it was at this time the individual asked if Kevin live there and my girlfriend replied, “Yes and was it necessary to knock like that?” At this point the individual replied, “If he pays his bill, we wouldn't have to.” That comment sparked an altercation which leads to hush words being passed with one of the ladies inviting my girlfriend if she wanted to fight. The entire time this is taking place my neighbors are watching and with me being a new resident there, my character is being judge and slandered. I have been renting from Rent A Center since 2002 and my entire house is furnished from them, from several locations throughout the US. While their prices are higher than regular furniture stores, they gave someone like me, who has terrible credit, the opportunity to buy nice furniture.

That is the price you pay for messing up your credit. when you sign the contract they are very specific about the terms and prices. So if they are knocking at your door, calling your family, or your job or you feel they are harassing you. If you paid your payments as you agreed to when you sign the contract, then they wouldn't have the need to try to get their property back. I have had nothing but great experiences from them, and even though it was a little more expensive, I now have a very beautifully furnished house.

I understand that its their job to call me to ask for the payment but not my entire family. They also came to my job, which that also caused me to almost get fired. I do not want to lose my furniture. I've paid so much in to it and to lose it and lose my money, it's not worth it. I've always called them to tell them if I'm going to be late and they say "Oh, it's fine," but yet they go to my house and harass me.

One day, my children were outside and they told them that they were there to pick up the TV and that they had to go inside. They were there with their grandmother and they ran inside scared. You shouldn't do that when there is children. Now, they are scared to go outside because of what happened. I don't think it's fair that just because some of us have to use services like Rent-A-Center, because we don't have good credit to get furniture anywhere else, they have to harass us every day. Then when nobody answers the door at home, they peek through the windows and that is our privacy! I have gotten behind in my payments because they keep hiring the total and the late fees. Yeah, they say I took some late fees off but then when I called to check the total, it's a never ending story. On Saturday, May 15, 2010, I went to Rent A Center to inquire about a folding bed. The sales rep showed me what they had in a catalog. Even though it was a bit costly, I went ahead and decided to get the chair he had shown me which converts into a bed. I specifically told him, "I need the bed for my ill father that was coming to NY for three weeks." I also told him that the bed would be delivered to my mother's address not mine. The sales rep told me it was no problem. He told me I would receive it between 12 pm and 6 pm on Tuesday, May 18, 2010. I reminded him several times, that it was important that I receive the bed because it was for my father who was ill and he could not sleep in an air mattress due to his condition. He again reassured me that I would have it on Tuesday. I paid the first two weeks and signed a contract. Before leaving, I confirmed the address of delivery. He told me someone would call me during early hours to inform me of delivery.

Tuesday came and no one ever called. There was no confirmation call, and no delivery call; however, they did call my employer to see if I was a responsible person. About 3 pm, I called them and they kept telling me that they were trying to get a hold of the delivery person and that they would call me back. Again, there were no calls at all. I went to pick my father up from the airport and calling again and again. The person on shift was extremely unprofessional. About 8 pm,another man called my phone from a different number telling me he would deliver but someone had to help him upstairs. About 8:30, the same man called again telling me that he could not bring the sofabed because the address was different. I explained to him that at Rent A Center, they knew that. He was also very nasty and rude. He said he was going to call them to confirm and call me back. I waited and waited and there was no call back. Finally, at about 9:30 pm, I called him again and he told me he wasn't going to deliver anything because of the difference in address.

Finally, no bed was delivered. My elderly father had to sleep on the floor on an air mattress which I had to go purchase because there was no bed for him to sleep in. The next day, May 19, 2010, I called the same man who had originally taken care of my order and I explained to him the lack of professionalism that Rent A Center had. He assured me the sofabed would be delivered by 12:30. Again no one showed up at 12:30. I called them to cancel the order at about1 pm and he told me that he would definitely be there by 1:30, the latest. Finally, the man got there. but as a result my father is in excruciating pain because he is a sick man of 71 years old. This is a horrible experience for myself and my father. I would never, ever use their services again.

I rent over $310.00 of furniture from this store. Well yesterday I went in to pay my payment and took a couple of pictures. I took just before I went down of the damage to my washer and dryer. I have had this for a few months, and it tears up my clothes. They had a serviceman come over, and it's still doing the same thing. The damage on the outside of my washer and dryer were the pictures of the out side of both. I showed the manager the pictures and he said to me those are the same picture. I could not believe he would just stand there and accuse me of being a liar.

So I asked him if he had a dryer like mine there because my dryer got so hot inside right after I got the drier, that the screen inside is all black. So of course this is my fault also. He said that I did not have enough clothes in the dryer. I have had so much !@#$ from this store that if I hadn't put so much money into my furniture, I would just get away from them. I rented a black sofa and lounge living room chair also and all the material were coming off it. So they had a gentleman call me from Vermont, and after I told him what was happening to it, he told me I would hear from the store. I never heard from the store.

I had to call them to replace the two pieces of living room with a fireplace and a lounge chair, then I wouldn't even put it out beside the road to give it away. So I ended up calling Vanice and he said they had ordered a new chair for me. I have dealt with these people since 1999, and I am a gold card customer. Their customer service is unbelievable, it is so bad. Vanice is the gentleman I always dealt with and yesterday when I went in, I asked to speak to him, as he was sitting right there with Todd and someone else.

That's when I took out my camera and showed Todd the pictures of the washer and dryer. I do not like dealing with these people but I am stuck now that I have given them so much money. Customer service is so wrong with this store. Todd is what you would call a cocky person to speak to start with, and I wondered when Vanice did not want to talk to me on my problems, seeing he has been since I bought the furniture. I did pay a full payment and I told them that I wanted a new washer and dryer or some money taken off.

He is considering this suit against RAC for unfair collection actions, misrepresenting and taking advantage of poor people. RAC works very hard getting legislation passed to protect their exorbitant prices for new and used merchandise. By getting laws passed to protect RAC and keep rental companies from having a limit to the interest and prices they charge their demographic financially challenged, or in other words they are marketing and exploiting the poor and folks with "bad" or no credit. We too must band together, references, customers of RAC who ended up abused, coerced and overcharged, then subjected to unfair debt collection methods.

Rent-A-Center is horrible. If you give them references on the application, they will call the references you posted, call your neighbors, and harass you for payment days earlier. Up to 8 calls within two days before payment is due. I advise anyone not to ever rent from Rent-A-Center stores. They do not do fair debt collection acts. They bully, coerce and never should be used under any circumstances. Everyone should get together and file a class action suit against them and then they will respect people, their rights, their references and act like human beings with dignity, compassion and start respecting the debt collection practices. Let's all get together and file a class action suit.

I own a rental property in Beaver Falls, PA. I rented to a section 8 tenant who occupied the premises for one year. During that time, I resided in Maryland. The tenant during that period rented a washer/dryer from the Rent-A-Center store located in Chippewa, PA. I, myself being unaware of the rental itself or the time that she possessed the items, found upon my return to PA at the time of the tenants lease expiration date that the tenant had not been making the required payments due on the washer/dryer and had fallen two months behind. This was at the time of my returning to PA intending to move back into the main part of the house again after her lease expiration one month later, moved all of my belongings to my garage and the basement of the house since there was nowhere else to put them until her vacating the premises.

During this time, Rent-A-Center began calling the tenant trying to retrieve the items. After the tenant alerted them that the landlords (myself) belongings were blocking them in, Rent-A-Center told her that she would have to either move our belongings or to make us move them so that they could get into get the items or that charges would be filed against both the tenant and myself for refusal to return the property to them. At that time, I called the district magistrate's office to find out all the information that I could concerning my rights as the landlord where this matter is concerned. At this time, the district magistrates office informed me that the only charges able to be filed in this matter were against the person that rented the property and those could only be done as a civil matter and not a criminal and that "no" charges either criminal or civil could be brought against the landlord.

Also that we were not required to move our belongings for them to get in to get the washer/dryer that they were required to make arrangements with myself as to what date they would be able to retrieve these items, which was never done! One month later, when the tenants lease expired and she vacated the premises, she left the washer/dryer and never even told Rent-A-Center that they were to come and make arrangements with me to pick up their merchandise. Rent-A-Center therefore proceeded to threaten me and the tenant who no longer even lived on the premises with the police who said they did not want called any longer that it was a civil matter and that they needed a constable and not them. They never came to make arrangements to pick up their property and all around lied to both myself and the tenant! They told the tenant that they had been here to my home to make arrangements to pick up the washer/dryer and that I refused to allow them to get it when in fact, I had my fiance and myself called the store on several occasions asking why they had not come and they would tell me or my fiance that they would be there on a certain date or time and then never show up causing me to lose money from missing work!

They told people that my girlfriend both threatened them and threw things out the back door at them when they came into the backyard when in fact, they were never even there. They accused my girlfriend of having rented a TV from their store which she never did and accused both she and I with turning our dog loose on them and running up behind one of them when they were here to pick up the washer/dryer finally, which what happened was that my "harmless" dog got out while they were here to do the pick up and ran into the street and my girlfriend ran out after him and yelled for me to get the dog.

Then after the pick up, they went around the block and came directly back, called my girlfriend by someone else's name and accused her of having a TV that she doesn't know anything about and told her that she had better shut up while she was ahead since they had already filed theft charges against her which upon calling the magistrate again found out that they didn't even know what Rent-A-Center was talking about either. They threatened to call the police on both myself and my fiance for putting their property out on the sidewalk which did not happen before they arrived to pick it up.

I had told my fiance to call the store which she did and told them that we were putting it out on the sidewalk and that they could pick it up whenever they wanted since I had spoke with my former tenant the evening of 4/23/10 and she said that she had just got a call from them threatening her and I told her to call back and let them know that I would be home on Sat 4/24/10 between 8am and 12 pm and that they were free to come at that time to pick up their merchandise but that we would not be home after that. She said that she called them and that they would be there then but as usual they never showed up. At 6 pm, the former tenant called telling us that Rent-A-Center was at her door threatening her with the police and that they were here and we refused again to give them the merchandise. At that time, my fiance called them and told them that they could pick it up right now because we were going to put it outside since they wanted to lie and say that they were here to get it and were not.

While my fiance was on the phone with the store, the truck pulled up and picked up the merchandise. While talking to the man on the phone at the store, I was informed that they sat down the street from my home two days earlier in the truck for several hours but never came to the door to see if anyone was home or never called to see if they would be able to pick up the merchandise at that time. Also during the time, the one person stated that they had drove passed this morning and that they've seen my car out front so they knew that some one was home but they never came to the door.

I am a self-employed businessman and lost quite a bit of money missing jobs to make myself available for Rent-A-Center to pick up merchandise and they never showed up. My fiance is very ill and has her up days and her down days which has taken a toll on her health with the stress of worrying about the entire situation. I will also be filing harassment charges (as a beginning) against Rent-A-Center and will have to take the money from my pocket to file, money that does not come easy in these trying times and especially for a self-employed small businessman. I also would be glad to talk with one of your attorneys on this matter since I am not the only residents in my area that has had similar situations with this particular Rent-A-Center store or general manager.

I was told by the manager of Rent-A-Center that he was asked by my husband to allow the TV to remain in the store until he (my husband) was able to come get it.

Even after I showed the manager the certificate of ownership with my name and my husband's name on it, he refused to release the TV to me, stating that he was holding the TV as as favor to my husband because he is a customer, when it was I who opened the account in the first place and added my husband to the account later. We both made payments on that TV. This is an emotional stress because I called the Long Beach Police Dept, who said my husband has the right to do whatever he wanted with the TV. I also called the district manager in Los Angeles, Mr. John ** that same day and for almost two weeks after that day and all I ever got was his voicemail but he still never called me back.

Today is the day for my buy out and the problem that I was having yesterday is still not being taken care of. The big boss has been told about the problem and care not to do anything about it. I would like this matter to be looked into before I have to go legal with this matter because when this gets out of control with double up money, I'm not going to pay it because I was trying to take this off before it came to that. I’ve never been late.

I’ve owned them, and this is how they treat you, like nothing you have to say matters to them. Mark is one of the workers in the store, and when you talk to him about anything, he says to you, “I don’t feel doing this or I don’t feel like doing that.” So if you don’t feel doing anything, why work with people? I’m really upset about this and would like to clear this matter up, close it out, and go to Aaron's where they treat people better.

And we’re really excited to shop there since she (Ana) had been a long time customer.

While she was making a payment, she had mentioned to Mark if there were any job openings, prior to this question she (Ana) had introduced me (Margaret) to Mark as her girlfriend, after she asked about job openings he replied "no not at the current time, there are no openings", two seconds later after looking her (Ana) up and down in a flirtatious manner said "Well, hmmm I might have to just make one (a job opening available this week"! I (Margaret) then replied "that's very rude Mark to disrespect me and my lady like that"!

He just went about his business and did not apologize but did wish us a Happy Easter. Not only was that poor customer service, But Rent A Center lost the opportunity to make a large sale and the opportunity for a repeat customer. I find this hard to believe that such a large company like Rent A Center would employ such people such as Mark at store #3769.

The price is the same in all stores. She pays $23 per week. The Notebook retails for $299. It has to be rented for 62 weeks before she owns it. This means the store will make $1,426. Who is allowing these businesses to take such advantage of the disadvantaged?

At the time, the Manager Tony was very helpful and gave me a week or more to get things under control. Everything was fine for a long time. I never made a late payment nor were any payments not made. Over the course of many years, I purchased a living room, dinette, bedroom, stereos, TV's never had a problem. Until they hired a guy that could barely speak English who's name was Eddie G.

My payments were due on Saturdays. This employee would call my home every Saturday morning at 8 a.m. reminding me to make my payment. After several request to the Manager to not let this man call my home so early on Saturday mornings. They continued every Saturday morning. I finally threatened to pay off the entire balance of what I owed and never, ever deal with this company again. After several attempts at trying to talk to these people, about the harassing phone calls every week, I went into Rent A center and paid the balance in full. I told them that I would never deal with them again. They called my house on numerous occasions trying to get me to buy something. I informed them that I was done dealing with them, since they don't seem to understand when a customer makes a complaint about an employee, they are demanding something to be done. Don't shop Rent A Center, don't work for Rent A Center period. History lesson first: I started working for Rent A Center in 2003 as an account manager, now called a "CAR" customer account rep; it seemed like an okay choice at the time but as time went on, I realized that like all the other "big business" companies out there, they are as crooked as can be. Starting at the ground leve,l I had the chance to experience it all: sales, deliveries, and collections and management.

No matter how good the offer seems, it's a lot of smoke and mirrors. Once you're in the door, you're got that goes for renting from them or working for them. While working for RAC, I sustained an injury. At this point, I had worked for the company for 6 years and had been promoted several times to the position of Lead Assistant Manager. Immediately following my injury, I reported it to my supervisor and asked him to file a report as I was instructed to do more than a handful of times each year I worked there. It's common accident reporting procedure drilled into everyone's head day in and day out.

Do you think he did it? No. I subsequently had the next day off and he asked me to see how I felt the next work day. Two days later, I returned to work with an "appendage" swollen to the point that it won't function correctly and in extreme discomfort but manageable. Working for RAC, you quickly learn to build up a pain tolerance; it might have something to do with being required to lift several hundred pounds of appliances and furniture up flights of stairs over your head. Hmm, food for thought.

Anyway I requested again that I be allowed to go to the ER to have my "appendage" looked over by a physician, I asked if he had completed the report he said he was working on it. I continued on for 2 days this way. The reason I hadn't gone to the ER was that without the proper documentation, it would have been on my dime. And that wasn't going to happen after 6 years of dedicated service to a multibillion dollar company that couldn't obviously care less about its bread and butter so to speak.

So by the end of that week, I had worn them down and the report was started that day again. After going to the ER and finding out that I most likely had a torn rotator or at the least and extreme sprain, I was immediately put off work. This cost me my career, and cost me my cars, both of them and the race car

Then one night while I was away due to my medicines that I'm on, the employee, Maria, started texting my cell phone at 12 am uttering threats towards me. This kept continuing. Finally, I looked the number up online and it came back as the employee for Rent-A-Center and she also is harassing my mother who is terminally ill. She's calling her and saying shes a **** liar. My mom does not need that kind of stress.

So anyways, I have gone to the police with this matter. My family members have spoken to Adam, the manager, which nothing has been solved with this employee. As to this day, she is still calling everybody and harassing them. I don't think it was appropriate for a Rent-A-Center employee to leave the store with my phone # or any of my business at that, calling me and harassing me with her personal phone. Who's to say she doesn't get to my address as easy as she did my number.

Please respond to this complaint to see if we can resolve this matter. Due to the harassment of the employee, I'm afraid to call or appear at that store. If we can't resolve this matter, I will look into pressing harassment charges against that store and its employees. The police have record of this harassment as well the employee's phone number. It has caused me to have fear. This employee got my number so that means she has access to my address. She took my confidentiality out of your store and used it to harass me.
