Gave my daughter a smart tv that was a display. Brought it to the house wrapped in clear plastic. And said they had to take it out the box to make sure it works. But little did they know they left the sign on the tv that say "why do layaway". Right then and there I knew it was a display. Had her rent a bed set and didn't add a mattress with. I dealt with them some years ago and never had a problem like this. And now my daughter has a tv that doesn't work and still waiting for another one.

My fiancee and I started to rent a fridge from them about 7 months ago. Starting 3 months ago we started to have trouble making payments but we had no way of getting another fridge so we would scrounge up the money and make the payment. (Was late the past 3 months but always made the payment.) Just recently had a family emergency and I also had a bad fall which kept me off work for over a week so therefore I didn't have a good paycheck. The first time being late after my fall one of their "fine gentleman" YEAH RIGHT came to my door and pounded on it so hard then tried to get in. I was trying to get to the door but was on crutches (Broke my ankle) so it took me a minute to get to the door. I told them my fiancee would come to make the payment in which he did.

Just recently, my fiancee and I got a bit behind again and he called them the week prior they told him if he paid the past due of 64.25 that would get us until the 25th which was fine we got paid again by that time so we could make another payment. I called them yesterday and got the same "fine gentleman" on the phone. He was so nasty and unprofessional and wanted a double payment! I told him what was going on and he is like "There has been always something going on the past three months!" I told him the best I could do was the past due and he was so nasty and yelling at me and would not take the past due! He kept on being ignorant and unprofessional to me and I told them to come get the fridge and he continued to harass me until I finally hung up on him. I have never seen such unprofessional people in my life and I did report them to their corporate office. I was so upset that they were so nasty I cried when I ended the call. I was dealing with my mother almost dying from a heart attack and preparing for surgery on my ankle and they knew this.

So I started renting from RAC in Canoga Park, California on November 7, 2014. I agreed to do the bi-weekly payment. I've been getting calls ever since this Monday telling me that I am late on my payment and that I will be charged for 2 weeks. WTF?!!! I asked how is it that when I left the store, all of a sudden my 2-week agreement turned to every week? No one had an answer. That place is ran by a bunch of young and immature people.

I'm a previous customer of Rent-A-Center several years ago. We rented a touch screen laptop and was making payments because of the usual harassing phone calls, something went wrong and we had to give it back to them for repair work. We received a call telling us they had to send it back to company. Time went by, they finally contacted us and was blaming us for the keys in the back of the laptop being broken which neither of us did so we decided to get our full refund back,. They gave us such a hassle after making several trips down there. One employee was harassing my disabled boyfriend mimicking him because he had a speech impediment, making fun of him and the way he talked. I thought this was unprofessional and inappropriate but either of us said anything. They called the police on us so we left not wanting to make a big deal out of this. A few days later we returned and got our full refund back. Since then we moved from North side but we will never ever rent from them again or recommend anyone else does.

This store is full of immature, simple-minded scum. Their main goal in life is making sure that other people are degraded and looked down upon, rather than doing their jobs. Customers of Rent-A-Center in Canandaigua, NY have informed me that because of a short, non-meaningful stint between myself and an employee, I am being spoken ill about to CUSTOMERS! Mind you, I am also a Rent-A-Center customer in the Canandaigua store. I will be returning my things and renting elsewhere. I do not appreciate being spoken about negatively, especially when the issue at hand was a personal matter. The manager, **, is incompetent and an attention-seeker, and is the person who began the rumors in the first place. Get a life, and find something better do with your time.

My husband and I purchased a washer from them several months back. On several occasions my husband asked about applying the money in the suspense account towards the principal and was told that our contract does not allow us to do this. I also spoke with David on 8/7/14 and was told that they cannot apply this to my principal. My husband was told this several times, the last time was 2 weeks ago. Today I called to make our payment and inquired on this again, as it did not make sense to me that we cannot apply extra money towards our principal payment. We have 6 kids and if a washer wasn't mandatory, I would have never purchased this from them anyways. I was informed by Victor today that we CAN do this, all we have to do is ask.

As you can imagine I was extremely upset as I have now paid $584.61 and still owe $180.03 for an item that was not nearly worth this price. I understand that when payments are made, that yes money will be applied to the interest and can be drawn out over long periods of time, but when we directly inquire on paying more and ask them to apply all the money to the principal and they say that it is not possible just to draw out the payments and drain money that I do not have from my pocket.

This is an unacceptable way to do business and an outrage. We were both completely lied to and misled in regards to our suspense account and payments to principal. I have already filed a complaint with the customer service on their website. The physical address of this particular Rent A Center is 641 Sweetwater Rd. Spring Valley, CA. 91977. I do not have a copy of my order number or receipt on me, but can absolutely provide one if requested. I am hoping that their calls are recorded as well. They should not be allowed to with hold information, or just plain lie to customers.

I hope someone can do something about this as if they have done this to me, I can imagine how many other people they have lied to and ripped off. As of now, nothing has been done. I will complain until something is through as I work extremely hard for my money and do not have any to waste. I feel taken advantage of in this situation as myself and my husband trusted the people we were getting information from and it was a blatant lie. They should not be allowed to mislead or lie to customers.

I began doing business with Rent-a-Center in March 2013 when I needed a washing machine and wasn't certain about exactly what I wanted in a machine. I was immediately sold on a machine with all the bells and whistles when the sales rep said it would save me on water. To make a long story short, things seemed fine during the first few months but if I was just one day late, they would begin with their annoying phone calls. Not just to me but all my references!! If that wasn't enough, they would literally try their hardest to talk me into renting things I didn't even need, such as a television, phone, furniture, etc.

I was able to put an end to their ridiculous phone calls in Dec 2013 by making a complaint to the regional mgr. By August 2013, I was so fed up with Rent-a-Center. I had gone into the store one Wed and told the sales rep I would return on Fri to make a payment which was delayed because my bank had to send a new card to me. Instead of simply waiting for me to come in that Friday, the same employee dared to phone and ask what time I'd be in!! After taking care of bills, I finally made it in that Friday evening ready to make a payment and offered a smaller amount since I still needed to buy groceries for my children and he refused to accept the payment! If that wasn't enough, he sent an employee to my house later that same evening!! I responded by phoning corporate office the following day.

When the rep returned to my house days later, I told him to go ahead and take the machine because I was not ready to buy the same model from a regular retail store so I wouldn't have to be bothered by Rent-a-center and their annoying calls. He acted as though he didn't want to take the machine back and said "But you don't have many more payments on it before complete ownership." I really didn't want the machine because I hate white appliances and prefer chrome or even stainless steel. My husband felt it would be better to stick with the machine since there weren't many more payments left so that's what we did until tonight.

They weren't willing to negotiate by accepting a payment of $40 today or tomorrow and another $40 on Friday so I told them to take the ** machine. The rep dared to say that they'd hold it and I could pick up where I left off when I have the rest of the money, but this time I told them that I don't want it back and I'm done with them!!! Sure, it's the holidays but I'd so much rather bust my tail just to afford the color and model I want than to ever be bothered by pesky employees of Rent-a-Center. These people really lack common sense. When they phoned a friend of mine one day, she let them know that she hadn't seen nor heard from me yet, they phoned her again the very next day still asking her. If she hadn't seen nor heard from me in months on a Thu, its not like I'd suddenly appear out of thin air the next day especially when she's in another state!

With only 28 more payments left, they should have enough common sense to know that I wasn't leaving the state with the machine. Over $1,000 has been put into that machine so after a year, I should have owned it anyway but since the employees of Rent-a-Center are so incompetent, greedy (yes, they admit that they like to get as much money as possible out of people) and annoying, I thank God I have credit so I can simply buy a brand new washing machine from a regular retail store and never be bothered with Rent-a-center ever again! The machine I was renting was brand new and sold for retail at $1,000 but Rent-a-Center made it an extra $400-$600 plus their additional late fees!

At the end of June of this year we started the rental on a sectional. It was great. I had been assured by the Associate who claimed he was the Store Manager that the sectional, which was housed in a back shed/warehouse area, uncovered, would be cleaned prior to delivery and that my old couch would be removed and disposed of. This was on a Monday or Tuesday. On delivery day, that Saturday, the sectional was delivered. The delivery guys said it had NOT been cleaned when I asked. The sectional was dirty/dusty. Soon after, the whole family began to get bites. Because it was summer, I thought it was mosquitoes. We treated for such but it became worse. A friend had mentioned bed bugs because it was RAC. I contacted store and was assured several times that it couldn't be bed bugs and they even said it had to be mosquitoes.

Now come the fall and the bites are worse and have spread throughout the house. Now RAC says after it has been confirmed that the sectional is infested, has been infested for longer than the amount of time we've had it (it sat in the warehouse area from January to end of June this year) that they will do nothing at all. They will not replace or refund or allow a return because it could infest their store. They refuse to pay for any treatments, and they flatly refuse to do anything at all, trying to claim that even though it all started after the sectional was delivered and it is proven to be the culprit that it isn't their fault and it just happened RIGHT after it was delivered and is therefore our fault. Rude service by the General Manager at the local store, claimed to have taken a class on bed bugs and yet could not correctly answer any questions regarding them.

This started November 2013. I have had multiple accounts which I tend to pay off in the 90 day period if I can. I was called by the clerk at our local rent-a-center about a black Friday special which I could use my $100 coupon (an incentive given out when you close an account). I had no accounts open that I could remember. The clerk said I had to get the TV that day otherwise the price would be 600. It was a small smart TV, something I mentioned I would probably be looking for. My friend also said he was interested in one.

I don't remember if I opened this account by phone or in person. It was agreed that I would get 2 TVs, one of which would be transferred into my friend’s name once he came in. I typically paid by phone and also paid more than the rental price because I try to pay off the items in the 90 day period. After a few months I asked about my pay off date and was informed I missed the 90 day pay off. I was bummed but decided to make payments with the goal of paying off by the summer, before I went on vacation. In July I asked what my pay off amount was. I was told it was roughly around $200-150. I made payments so that the first week of august I could close the account with a small payment between $50-40.

I NEVER missed payment dates, and always paid ahead. First week of august came and I attempted to make a last account closing payment.... and was told it was still almost $200. When I told the clerk that I paid it down so I could have the last payment be about $40, he said he would find out what went wrong and get back to me. Weeks later they began calling and said the pay off was $180 otherwise I was to return the TV. The TV value was $400 for the 90 day price and $600 after 90 days.

Between September and October they began calling 2-3 times a day. I always said the same thing, find out what went wrong because I am not throwing good money after bad. Finally a clerk knocked on my door. When I opened the door the clerk Carol said she was taking the TV. She said "You can't keep things you haven't paid for, I'm not leaving without the tv!" I told her to leave and that I was calling her district manager, I tried to shut the door but she pushed it open, trapping me between the door and stairs. Once she realized it was hurting me she stopped trying to force it open.

I called Karl (I was told he was in charge of this store). I told him what happened. I explained to him I make my payments and always try to pay more in order to pay off an item. He agreed that I have paid many accounts off and make larger payments than the minimum. I explained to him what happened and that at this point I've paid nearly $1000 for a stupid small tv. We agreed that if I could prove close to the amount I told him he would personally close the account.

I copied my payment history to be faxed to him. When I came into the store the manager said it wasn't enough. He wanted my bank statements. I told him I wasn't giving him my bank statements with my personal info, I proved that between March and august alone I had paid $500 and I've been paying since November. He began raising his voice, he said "we haven't gotten a ** payment since august!!! Who do you think you are?! The TV doesn't belong to you". We got into words, he showed me how I paid insurance (I had asked before to never give me insurance), how fees had absorbed payments and how they had placed my payments to my friends account. The entire time I was paying for this TV and I never knew it was being absorbed one way and another to an account that wasn't mine or insurance... or fees. They said I had actually only paid $200 of principal amount of $600.

Sometime around this point they contacted my father demanding payments and threatened that if the tv was not returned they would have me arrested. I am self employed and have sub contracted to employers since January 2014. My father said something to that effect and that he didn't know I was having financial problems. I was upset after my father called me hysterical thinking I was going to jail for grand theft and questioned how I was working and couldn't afford $180.

When the store called about 6pm I answered. I told the clerk I was rushing today and wasn't even in town yet, that I wouldn't have time before 7 pm (closing) and I was just taking my break for dinner. I told them not to ever harass my father, that it's going to take a day to back date my bank statements from last year, black out my personal info and print them. The store manager said he didn't care. He asked me why I couldn't do it that night, I explained I was busy again and why. Then he started yelling "Where do you work? What do you do all day that you can't bring them in?? I talked to your dad, he said you don't have a ** job! How are you going to pay this account??? I want that TV brought in now, I am not ** playing with you!! Karl can't do ** for you! I own this ** store, what's Karl going to do?? Did you get the letter yet from my lawyer?? This is **, bring me my TV NOW!!" and then I hung up on him.

I won't answer their calls now. My father is pretty convinced that I will be arrested this week because he was told that. I'm upset because of how quickly this escalated. The clerk who 'owns' the store acknowledged the clerk who I normally dealt with was fired which could be the reason why the issue wasn't addressed in July. He also acknowledged that there was a 'minor' problem in July but wasn't aware of it at the time and my current pay off amount includes a lot of fees.

So this is where I stand. Either I give back my daughter's christmas present which I paid almost a grand for, or get arrested for grand theft. If it hadn't been my daughter's TV I would have brought it back many times over. This is what parents do for their children.

This whole entire situation sickens me. The gleeful cheery smile from the clerks who nod and process payments without ever mentioning that the payments, regardless of the amount... was never going to be applied to the principal. And then later having the same clerks try to push into my apartment and threatening my family members over a mistake their store made on 20+ inch VIZIO TV that has never picked up my WiFi signal! I haven't even been able to enjoy a Netflix binge since we got it in November 2013.

I've begun an electric and debt purge. I will never ever ever ever again deal with this company again or any other soul suckling companies. Rent-a-center places hardworking families in debt with these false hopes that they will one day own the appliance/furniture that they couldn't afford before. The reality is that even when I own this crappy fake Sony TV I will be paying for it monthly as it uses my electric to run. I've had it!

So here is my **, they call me each Saturday to remind me my payment is due and when will I be in to make the payment. I have told them over and over I do not need to be reminded, that it's only been 7 days and I have been paying for 17 years and they are going to get me fired for calling me at work, to stop calling but they still do. First of all I want to state that this is in reference to the Rent-A-Center located in Laramie, WY. My family has used Aaron's for a few things we have bought and have been very pleased. Our last purchase we got a stove and have been making regular payments on it. Back in June we went to make a payment only to find a note on the door stating to make our payments to Rent-A-Center and the address. When we made the payment we asked about why we had to make payments there and were told that they were only taking payments for Aaron’s because our local store closed its doors. We didn't think anything about it since the main gal we dealt with at Aaron’s was working there at Rent-A-Center.

Recently I tried to go online to make my payment but found out that I couldn't. I called Aaron’s only to find out that Rent-A-Center bought out our contract and we were not informed about it like we were suppose to have been. Aaron's filed a complaint and I am waiting for a call from the regional manager at this time.

I think that Rent-A-Center should have been upfront and honest about the entire situation and either called people or sent out something in the mail. I am not pleased that they misrepresented themselves by telling us they were taking the payments for Aaron’s when in fact they were buying out our contract and we have no idea if they have added charges (since their products are more expensive) or what our new contract even states now that they have gotten it. I would like to figure out if Aaron’s can take back my contract or what to do because I do not trust Rent-A-Center nor do I like them. Another way that they misrepresented themselves was when I talked to them about how they were going to handle my referral since I referred someone to Aaron’s, and they said they had to talk to their boss - but they would get it figured out, not a problem.

I go in to pay things off to get crap that is not worth paying off. Example: they were going to charge me for a Note 8.0, tried telling me it was new. When I got there it was used, very used and was going to charge me 400. That's a price for a new one. Used cash price from a private owner is 158, refurbished 226 cash price out the door. Be careful. Look up pricing before buying anything through them and make sure it is new if you want a good deal.

I been making payments for more than a year on a 500 dollar game system I spent well over 3000. I missed one payment with them and they increase the amount I owe. On top of that, tell me to return the product after I offered to pay them the one week that I owe. I spoke to the manager and the owner and they told me that if I were to pay, the rental agreement was violated because I missed my single payment and that I have to return the product and pay what I owe. This isn't fair. I been paying them everyday for a year, spending 3000 dollars on a system and I get treated like crap for missing one payment. Something needs to be done about these people.

It all started with a previous rented couch. I was 7 months pregnant, moved in with my bf, sat on the couch and it broke (I weighed 197lbs). They came out to confirm it was broken - say they will be out Monday to pick it up for repair. We are like "we have kids we need a couch here in the meantime." "Oh we don’t provide a couch in the meantime". After further research, in the clause it is required for them to. So after a week of arguing with them they bring out a love seat in the meantime. SO nice - mind you 2 kids, 2 adults. After a total of 5 weeks, R.A.C. wanting money for a couch we don't have that's broken and lots of calls to corporate and complaints, they finally say “Ok we will give you the option to pick out a whole new couch.” So we did - it had burn holes about 10 and some dirty stains but other than that it was nice and came with the side tables and 2 lamps and we figured we get some resolve to clean up the couch and we will be good and we made out.

So we do that - give them the payment they want. This bring us to mid-August. We pick this couch out. Within a 2 week period we ran into some money troubles, call them, say, “Hey we might be late with this payment by a week but no longer.” “No problem," they say. I'm the only one who sits on the couch, mainly everyone else does too, but me majority of the time to do my work. I'm coming up with bites all over me random places, all below neck area. I think maybe because of all my recent stress - it’s just my body relieving the stress. As weeks go by still happening more often but I look up info and see that dust mites can cause allergic reactions and could be the cause. So I still blow it off. Mind you I do have a life. I have a disabled son and so is my bf, so there's a lot going on.

I then see a bug that ran very fast across the floor and get my bf to kill it. We are like "was that a roach?" He says, "NO they don't bleed and when I squished them blood came out. They gush white or something?" Ok seasons changing whatever. Then comes again some more life troubles. We tell them, “Can you work with us. We have no problem paying, we just have to wait on this money comes.” R.A.C employee says, "No problem. Stay in contact and no matter what, we can work with you".

They harass the crap out of us EVERYDAY even though we ok'd it with them. We get stopped on the street, door tags every day, calls to friends phone constantly. We call and talk to GARY the store MANAGER - the most ignorant unprofessional jerk ever. My bf calls him on a friends phone and say, “Listen, we told your employees and made sure it would be no problem. You need to stop with the harassment and give us the time you discussed.” Gary says, “I don't care what you were told. We are coming to pick up the couch”. My boyfriend hung up so we could go to another R.A.C in our area, explain what happened and see what our rights are since obviously Gary don't like us after the big stink with the first couch.

As soon as he hung up Gary calls the phone back. The friend answers and says, "What did he tell you? This is not his phone. Don't call this number back. He already left anyway." Don't you know he has the nerve to call the friend again and start yelling no word to lie. "I know he is there put him on the phone!" Friend, "Now this is harassment. I know the law. You call again I will report it to the police. You were already told 2 times this is not his phone". Gary, "Who is this?" Friend, "That is none of your business. I am hanging up now. You have been warned." Hung up on him. He even called back but the friend did not answer and just ignored it. We did not pursue the harassment because I ended up getting too busy with my son's disability and that's way more important.

I tell my boyfriend 3 days later when we got the money that he just could not wait for, just pay it off. Pay the rest of it off, I'm done. It will be less money anyways and 1 less bill next month. We do. So we are now in beginning 1st week of September and don't you know, we see another bug but this time comes running out from the couch cushion. Now we have totally ruled out roaches because we pulled the fridge out, the stove and even left a plate of chicken exposed for 6 hours just to see. We all know that's the true test.

We proceed to call corporate again, tell them the new issue - talk to so many people without help until we get Heidi - she was so helpful. She called R.A.C. They told her they put the claim in and we should hear back from them tomorrow. Next day called in, got some other lady. She says, "Are you sure it was in your name?" My boyfriend, "Yes". Lady says, "Ok let me do more research on this and give you a call back". He then gave them till the end of that day and proceeded to call back to see what she found. She tells him, "They did not submit the claim but I (her) did get them to submit it." She gave him Heidi and the claim #. "She should be in contact with you tomorrow."

My boyfriend called Heidi, left her a message. He got in contact with her that night or the next day. Heidi tells him that Terminix will be out - that they will contact us within 2-3 days. They came Friday of last week. The guy shows up. We never scheduled or talked to Terminix. So it was a shock when we get a knock at the door that morning and it was him. He focused on the kitchen, living room and kids room. I had to tell him to do the bedroom. He put roach bait down. Now it was time for me to pick up my son. So he left but he never even touched the couch, the MAIN PROBLEM!! So now I sit on the couch again, whew relief - finally can be comfortable again. Mind you I had not sat on the couch since I seen the bug come out of the couch.

Now that I sit on it again, I get the bites - not as much. But by Monday night I laid on the couch and fell asleep since I am a little sick. I wake up with bites on my legs and feet again and some on my back. Now we are back to the internet looking this up not wanting to believe this has not ended since the terminator guy came out and we had his friend here and they both know my big phobia of bugs and are like no and yes, no and yes.

Now comes Tuesday morning, still now constantly itching more. I had laid on the couch again and was on and off sleep while my son was at school. I fell asleep maybe 10 minutes because my boyfriend just loves to wake me up for stupid stuff. I get up and start itching crazy on my side. I have been cold and hot so I have my blanket on me. The side I was laying on my hip area is covered with bites. I'm so pissed, so exhausted and just sick of the ending crap. I go lay down in the bedroom. My dumb mistake because as I'm laying there pondering what this is more like def bedbugs, but how we don't see any and no one else is getting bit except my boyfriend like 2 times.

I think well whatever bit me could be on my blanket and now I laid on the bed. I instantly put it in the washer and the clothes I wore took a shower. So my boyfriend lays on the bed a little later and fell asleep. After he woke up he’s got a look on his face. I'm like "What’s wrong?" He says, “I fell asleep and now I wake up itching.” The kids are all over their bedroom floor and their beds and in our bed. We sleep in the room - no bites from the bed before today. We get on the phone with corporate again, the gentleman from Terminix etc.

Now they gotta go through all of it again. We gotta wait 3-5 days to hear anything. I say "What am I to do in the meantime?" I don't want my son bringing them to school and am def not gonna be able to sleep again. They tell us we never said anything about bedbugs. Oh yes we did. I explained everything in detail like I am doing now with you to them. I didn't miss a thing. I am sitting on the floor with my son coloring and after 10 mins, I see something on the floor, little bright red bug moving fast. I immediately tell my boyfriend BUG!!!!

He says "wow that is one of them." The first day we see it good enough to 100% confirm no more guesstimating, plus my boyfriend was talking to Eugene from Terminix while this took place, explained it to him and he said that was easy to spot because the bug just ate blood, that's why he is so bright red and prominent. Mind you though once again me. WHY? Because when I earlier traveled the bug had to have been on me or something. I'm no expert but now it’s becoming an infestation issue.

I am not waiting any longer for this to be solved especially because this is all due to their negligence and the exterminator was given instructions to only go after roaches and not inspect like they should have as I have researched also. I have to move by the end of this month. There is no way I'm gonna let R.A.C and their corporation to ruin my life and force me to throw all our belongings away. We have no money for that. I read that this is so common with other reviews from other customers of RAC on the corporate website.

So I will NEVER end this fight until RAC is no longer a company - no longer exist. I might be nice and let them stay in business if they actually fix their corporation because this is not just my area. I have read bedbug and unprofessional customer service in MANY different states. So the flaw is with the WHOLE R.A.C. Thank you - I hope you take this seriously and actually have a soul. Put yourself in our shoes and our kids shoes. What this could cause for my family.

He looked in the back room and looked in the Rent-A-Center truck, but there was no remote to be found for this tv. I took the tv back before I was billed another week. Without a remote, it's almost impossible to set up connections and cable on newer models. Needless to say, I'll go without a tv until I can afford to buy one at a store that will provide help with the setup AND the remote. What a bunch of fast talking losers the guys at Rent-A-Center are. I get there, the regional manager Rachel never introduces herself as a manager and I ask for josh. Josh comes out and tells her, "This is the customer I was talking about," she says "We owe you 19.99 because 30.84 went towards your tablet," cash price for the tablet was 336.20. I paid into 194.99 I had in my suspense acct 97.64 with me having to pay about 60.00. I was ripped off 30.84 plus almost paid close to 400.00 dollar for the tablet. Tried to contact corporate and they took all my info down stating they would have Rachel call me who was no help to me. Moral of my story and don't rent from them.

I was in a rush so I paid, signed and rush returning few hours later and tendering $25. I reviewed contract that night and realize he was charging me extra for loss damage waiver. I go back next day and address situation, he claims it's an obligation. He was kind so I left. Didn't receive the television until 9 days later when I shed they claim my four referrals didn't answer. I asked her to prove her verbal contract in writing she said return tv or deal with it and simultaneously another client came in angry because of their mistake. I asked lady if she was mandated to pay ldw fee - she said no where supervisor said "oh she's talking about a membership fee". Rented 2 pieces of merchandise from Rent-a-Center. From the 1st week we tried to get the Damage waiver off, they kept saying ok pay one more time and we'll take it off. After 6+ months of hearing the same stuff we decided not to pay anymore until it was fixed. During that time we also started getting new charges of upwards to 20 dollars a week and no one including the district manager could tell me what they were. We contacted the store and told them we are not paying anymore we want arbitration, after being threatened with it atleast 20 times, they then threatened us with jail. That just happened to be the day I started recording the conversations. A few days before that happened they had came to our house and threatened our kids. I took the gloves off, so to speak and got a nice shiny new smart phone and got a call recorder on it. The same day we contacted corporate office which had the District manager call.

He stated, "We will fix the charges if you give us the stuff back and go with cheaper stuff" said no, we'll either go to arbitration as we've been threatened with or you give us our money back, which would have equaled 5+ weeks of rent. He stated he didn't like to be threatened but since he's a nice guy he'll give us 5+ weeks of rent. During that time I had Rent-A-Center print out our payment history and pay off date, as I had already had the pay off date printed out after the 6th week to figure out where the charges were coming from, to compare the 2 side by side. That's when I noticed an extra 6+ weeks on our contract. Ok so he lied, a district manager of Rent-A-Center and just extended our contract so we would have to still pay that 5 weeks and be out all that money.

I will interject here and state that according to their own agreement and our state's laws we do not have to get damage waiver if we don't want it and if we ask it to be removed it's supposed. So then the district manager also stated he took off the damage waiver. So pay time comes around, I call to pay and here the same ** I had been hearing since the 1st week, pay the waiver again and we'll take it off next week. I stated that's not what the district manager said and still had to pay it. I just said bye and hung up the phone. I received 4 calls that day from them asking if I was ready to pay and each time I told them I'd do it online later. Never did pay it due to the charge being on it. So then the district manager called me and asked why I didn't pay, I stated cause he lied to me. So now, give me 1 item since we've paid over 2500.00 dollars and you take the other item.

He said no we'll lose money. Interject, go figure they want to steal our money but God forbid they might lose 700 dollars, which if the market value had been right on both items they wouldn't have lost anything. During the argument he finally told me to print out my bank statements showing where they got all this money and he would look into it. Interject, what I wanted to say was what you mean you guys don't know how much money you take from people? I didn't to not start a fight. Instead of sending him that info I contacted corporate and asked to speak to a regional manager. Regional manager called way after 24 hours as is their rules. He said I don't see how we got that much money from you, I reviewed your account. We will talk to the manager and we'll see about your money, that's it. He said the DM would be contacting me. So when I talked to him I started complaining he said, "whoa I don't need to hear all this, the RM said you are ready to pay so I need your payment". I said WHAT??!?!??! that was the last time I talked to anyone from Rent-A-Center.

During all of the above conflict my kids have been threatened, we have been defamed by them, we ourselves have been threatened, we've been humiliated. If a lawyer would like to contact me please do. I know of a lot of people with problems like mine, including some ex store managers that would love to testify and I would love nothing more than to get a class action lawsuit against them going. As I'm actually currently getting a bunch of like minded people together from quite a few different sites and I want to get one started soon. Not counting the fact with all of the above if they press charges I have a lawsuit from malicious prosecution. I notice the total amount would maybe go down $30-$40 and I was paying $250 every two weeks. This didn't make sense to me. I went in and spoke to the manager - he kindly broke every little detail down to me. Long story short, it's a SCAM. I told to come pick up the furniture because I didn't want it anymore. A year goes by and I check my credit, these ** have the nerve to have it listed on my credit report as a charge off.

Definition of a charge off - A charge-off or charge off is the declaration by a creditor (usually a credit card account) that an amount of debt is unlikely to be collected. This occurs when a consumer becomes severely delinquent on a debt. Traditionally, creditors will make this declaration at the point of six months without payment. In the United States, Federal regulations require creditors to charge-off installment loans after 120 days of delinquency, while revolving credit accounts must be charged-off after 180 days. NONE OF WHICH APPLIES TO ME.

I am currently fighting this on my credit report. Rent-A-Center and other rent-to-own companies have been able to avoid consumer protection and usury laws by calling their contracts "rental" agreements instead of loans. If the contracts were loans, the high interest rates charged would be illegal under state usury laws, and would violate the Federal Truth in Lending Act that requires interest rate disclosure.

We looked everywhere for the couch we wanted. I just didn't want to pay 3 grand for a sectional. We stopped at RAC and found the perfect couch in the perfect color. It was one that someone could not pay for and brought back or got repo'd. Great condition! Great delivery with great service. Once they got it in the house and left, the roaches started coming out everywhere. We couldn't believe it. We had to have the house and couch exterminated. They told me they could not be held responsible and couldn't prove they were from the couch.

We kept the couch and got rid of the roaches and had it cleaned. So my 2000 dollar couch ended up still costing me $3000. We paid for it up front with no payments. Then the phone calls start. They kept calling every day trying to sell us more stuff. No matter what I said, they keep calling. I finally had to get angry with them which I don't like to do. That finally stopped the calls. Never again RAC. Lost my business and everyone I tell.

I have been a customer for a few years now. I have purchased a tv, sectional, and tv stand. The last item I am paying for is a washer and dryer. I start having problems with the washing machine so I called in and told one of the workers ** and he told me he would get a loaner out and have mine sent to service the next day. I explained to him the time I was available to have someone bring it out. The next day came and no one came. I called the office and the store manager said, “I am so sorry. They should have been at your house.” Told me she would call them so I waited another 3 hours - by now it's 4:00. Mind you they were suppose to be at my house at 1 according to prior arrangements. So at 5 I called the store back to set up another day for pick up and delivery. A day was set and I expressed again that I needed a time that they would be here and was assured again. Had someone sitting at my house and they called me at 2 because they had to be to work at 3.

Called and talked to store manager again, by now I am just pissed off. Now she tells me they have calls they have to do and they are about done. Now why would you set up an appt with me - you knew they couldn't fill. Informed her that I had someone at my house waiting because the arrangements that were made. It’s now been almost a week. I couldn't use this suppose to be high efficiency washer and dryer. So I rescheduled another date. Finally I received a loaner over a week later and this loaner will not lock so I couldn't even use this loaner. When the guy brought the machine to my house four hours later than arranged. He was trying to test machine without putting clothes in the machine. I told him we wash clothes not plain water.

I knew my payment was coming due and like I told ** I am not gonna continue to pay for anything I can't use. He said “I agree. I told my management that because if you can't use and we can't deliver you a loaner and get yours fix is bad business.” Also informed him the loaner I received the lid would not lock so I can't wash either way. He told me he would try and get another washer out and said we will work something out with the payment. He asked me to call him Friday, but I was so tied up with my granddaughter being admitted to hospital - I forget.

** now has began coming all my references and all old employers leaving messages. Never did he call my number. So when I call ** answers and I ask him "why are you calling around looking for me?" He said "your payment is due" and I said "I already told ** I was not paying for something I couldn't use." He ask about a loaner that he brought. I told him I talked to ** already and he know the loaner ain't no good. He proceeded to tell me my payment was 78.89 and it would take me to the first of the month. Then he proceeded to try and update employment when I had done that several times before. I told him "I would do it later but I won't because you are not gonna call my job and get me fired with all that calling." These workers are very unprofessional and the products need to be serviced and taken better care of.

There is no way this was inspected prior to placing on showroom floor and it's fortunate they were dead or they would have had an infestation in the store as well as a costly exterminate at my complex at MY EXPENSE. I've been dissatisfied with the way they handled my complaint with only applying the amount I had paid for 1 month of rental towards a new rental. Once I am in a better financial situation, I will be returning the sofa I have now and will never purchase from them again. Word of mouth is the best way to get results.

On Monday, June 30th, 2014 at 8:37 am, I received a phone call from an employee named ** working at Rent-A-Center on 400 N Navy Blvd #3 Pensacola, FL 32507. ** was calling to remind me that my payment was due that past Saturday, June the 28th. ** asked me when I could come in to make the payment. I stated I was not sure on the exact day but sometime this week. ** insisted on a day with an attitude in her tone towards me. I told her definitely by Friday of this week. She then stated that they were closed on Friday for the Fourth of July and her tone hinted that I should have known that. I said I will be in before Thursday and explained that Mondays and Fridays are very busy for me in the line of work that I do. All of my weekly reports are due on Mondays and Fridays and I hardly ever get a lunch. She then rather rudely decided that I needed a condescending lesson on what happens when their items are not paid on and threatened me with retrieving the property because apparently I cannot pay my bills on time.

At this point, I was stunned at her tone towards me and the underlying suggestions in that tone. I felt as if I was being treated like a criminal that is constantly trying to get away with getting over on someone. I completely understand the policies and procedures that have to take place when a customer does not pay on the due date. I fully agree with the following call on the next business day and notating the account of when that customer will be in to make that payment. I am a report/procedures specialist and know the importance of procedures and policies. What I do not agree with was the tone and hostility used against me to accomplish these procedures and policies.

Not once did I say I was not going to pay. I was trying to pick the best day that I knew I was going to be able to get in there by so I would not get another call stating, "Well you said this day and you're still not here." I am not a criminal trying to get over on someone and cannot believe I felt like that on the next business day after my payment was due. Once she suggested that Rent-A-Center can pick up the washer and dryer if I cannot pay my bills on time, I was extremely upset and wanted the units out of my house. I decided to take a moment and speak with the manager because I have been going through this company for the last ten years in Utah, Colorado and now Florida. I did not want to go through the hassle of building a new relationship with some other company. The payment is not the issue. The employee's rude demeanor and patronizing tone towards me caused me to want to report her because I have NEVER EVER been treated so poorly before. ** was excited that I asked for her manager and put me on hold.

**, the working manager at store # 590 answered with a smile in his tone. I explained how ** had spoken to me and how it came across. His response was to tell me that I needed to pay my bills on time. That was a smack in my face and I knew I was going to get nowhere with him in regards on how the employee treated me while trying to collect a payment. I explained to him I understand the policy and even expect the Monday phone calls to ensure I would be coming in and to notate the account. I tried to convey why I was so upset, it had nothing to do with the payment.

He was literally LAUGHING AT ME while on the phone. He apologized to me because I could not control MY emotions. That was the absolute last straw. When I asked for his information, the employees and the information on how to make a formal complaint, he stated, "I am looking forward to getting kudos from my boss." I am absolutely floored with his comments. He proceeded to tell me the employee has never had a complaint made against her so it must be me. I told the gentleman that I have been renting through your company for over ten years and have never had an issue. I told him I cannot believe he has the audacity to make the comments he did being in a leadership position.

When I asked to speak to the manager and explained how I was treated I was expecting the manager to tell me he would like to apologize to me if the employee came off that way. That she was just following the policy for late payments. That she did not mean it the way I received her tone. That he would be happy to notate the account. That he appreciated my business and he was looking forward to seeing me by Thursday. I am disgusted and appalled with the way this company has handled this escalation. I understand customers are a dime a dozen. I don't want royal treatment. I just want the same courteous interaction that anyone would want. Unfortunately that is not what I received; instead I hung up feeling like I was treated like some kind of criminal, a piss ant that means nothing to a big company like Rent-A-Center, an unworthy victim.

I want action to be taken against ** and employee **. I hope your company records your phone calls for the protection of both the customer and the company's safety. I want the call placed to my cell phone at 8:37 this morning to be pulled and reviewed. I want the district manager and corporate to hear how I was treated. I want to know that others will hear ** laugh at me and apologize for the fact that I apparently cannot control my emotions. I want every corporate member to give ** the Kudos he is expecting. I want verification of the actions taken against the two. Regardless if my account is one day late or not, regardless if I always end up coming in the following Wednesday after the Saturday the payment is due. I do not deserve to be treated that way.

Been long customer of Rent A Center for around 3 years now in Belmont NC, now that the Current Assistant manager Jay and the newest manager (not sure her name she is black skin with tattoos showing all the time on her arm and heavy set). Well we finally had to stop going there after the false promises & the last time going waiting over 1 hour being the only people there. While the manager insulted her employ in front of my wife and I saying he is a bad person, a bad worker and she isn't going to take him acting like a baby in her store (this employee walked out on her) I don't think he was happy about being insulted in front of customers. His name was Jarrard or something of that nature. She then told us sorry we had to wait and she could get with us now as this was being said a new customer walked in and she then asked us to hold and served him on which took almost 30 minutes maybe more.

After that she told us sorry again, we are having to wait then decided to use the phone and joke and laugh with someone I am not sure who for about 5 minutes maybe more. THEN FINALLY we get to start going over the paper work. We got a mobile laptop so my wife could take to work and use it and they were very clear that is great to have a laptop at work and finally saying she was going to make our wait worth our while a 2nd time. (The manager lady) well not sure what she did, lol. We paid full price and went home. They couldn't even explain to us what we were filling out (the agreement) but we had been there so many times we knew the gist of it. So we didn't fault the new guy Justin too much for not knowing what he was doing. Justin apologized to us for the way his manager acted and then sent us on our way home without the laptop saying it would be ready at 4 pm. We finally called at 4:30, it wasn't ready but finally ended up getting the laptop around 6 pm that night.

We only needed it for a week or so while my wife's laptop was being repaired. So 6 days later we get a phone call saying it's time to payup, Ok. I thought it was payment was due at a later date? But nothing is wrote on our contract ours is completely blank. I we just went by their word when it was due on the 26th that's almost 2 weeks for price of one week, so we realized that's how she made it worth our time for waiting so long and being disrespectful to us and her employees. So after more times talking to them we finally talked to the manager woman and she said she never told us she was going to make It worth our time.. I a General or District Manager can read this and able to look at cameras in the store to see what happened if they have them. But anyway I told them, "Ok I'll bring it back Saturday ok, that's great." They say, "See you then just a 5$ late fee no problem" they say.

So Saturday comes and oops my wife has to go to SC for family emergency.. I cant drive, I am disabled. So we let them know 1 more day, sorry "its fine no problem we like you guys you have come here a lot we know you will pay." Next day before my wife gets home RAC is at the door saying they are here to pickup the laptop. "OK, sorry the laptop is in my wife's car and she is at her moms in SC Family emergency so I am going to bring it today. She is on her way home soon. We'll come there and pay off a month so we wont have any worries for a while. But the manager I said to the guys picking up the laptop said It wasn't due but then said again that it was she lied to us that's not cool." Jarrard said, "the fat girl?" I said yeah lol. He said, "Well we cant take your payment at all now since it is 2 days late you have to bring it back." I was like, "OH really? So you wont take my payment when I bring it back so I can keep it?" He said, "Well yeah we can." I said, "Ok which is it can you or not lol." No answer.

He then told me its in the contract not to take what you rent away from your house. I was like "O, so this laptop we got for her work she isn't allowed to take it to work even though we discussed this while renting it lol. Ok that's cool we just gonna bring it back drop it off we don't want it anymore." :) So I made them leave the house. Jay the assistant manager then called, saying we need to bring this laptop back that we have been lying to them saying we are going to bring it back all the time :) lol. We did tell them Friday once and didn't take it till Saturday. So I guess we lied our butts off to them over and over :) Jay tells me we need to bring it back, we are on our way. I'm just getting our information off it now see you in 30 minutes. Then he starts getting smart with us on the phone so I told him to be quiet or I was going to tell corp when I called them that you have been sending my sister flowers and giving her baby candy and calling her for no reason, she didn't even give you her number :) At least she told me she didn't.

And no stop asking me to hook you up because she is sexy as hell. Everytime I come in the story JAY its not going to happen, we just wanted to rent some stuff get off my case. So then I hung up finished deleting the things off the computer and took it straight up there. It was everyone involved at the store, they didn't tell us good bye when I told them goodbye. I asked Jay how he was doing and he didn't return the courtesy. The manager lady then asked us why we were bringing it back, LOL. OMG really? You're going to ask this after all you guys did to us making us feel bad and depressed for the way you treated us? You had my wife crying.. (that's what I was thinking) simply said to her "too many problems". She took the laptop said will there be anything else. I said yes, could we get a receipt showing we dropped the laptop off.. "SURE" she said.

So we left and went home.. (we had called corp office way before we returned the laptop so maybe they called up there and talked to them and that's why they were not very polite with us but again it wasn't anything new at this point. The manager was also talking about how she didn't like the store and know how much longer she was going to be here (that was when we were renting the laptop). So we left finally and went, had us a nice meal and felt better now that we didn't have to deal with those ignorant people in there. We tried to call corporate to complain and they took our statement and said a district manager or someone would be in touch with us but they never did get in touch with us as of yet 6-22-14.

I have been a customer of Rent-A-Center for five years. I am a fleeing domestic violence victim who needed to start over and left with only what I could carry in the middle of the night. I was very blessed to find a place and I immediately got my first item, a bedroom set. However my apartment is a 2-bedroom and large and I knew I would need more furniture so I waited until I had saved enough to use the 90 days same as cash feature as I surely did not like having to pay through the nose on a full contract.

I have been a good customer to them for five years. 3 weeks ago, something very catastrophic happened. I am homebound at present and fighting two auto-immune disorders, one which is life threatening. I have also been fighting suicidal thoughts. Have a good therapist. I asked my Rent-A-Center on San Carlos for a week extension on my payment of two items. I don't owe much on either but they refused my request and are acting like hounds wanting to take my carcass away.

You would think I was not a good customer. Everything I have here in the way of furniture and a few electronics I got from them. They never have to chase me down to be paid, never. But they also give someone in my condition grief because I need the week extension. I don't owe much on either item and if they wish to pick up both items and allow my healthy food which is frozen in the freezer to spoil as there is no place to put it, that will not be good for me emotionally or physically. Once these are paid off, I will never in my life do business with them again.

I just sold my home and was downgrading to an apartment, in doing so I decided to purchase everything brand new. I went to Rent A Center. I went in to PURCHASE a Whirlpool Refrigerator, A Dinette Set, a leather sectional, a 70 inch Vizio tv, with a tv stand and 2 end tables and 2 lamps, a bunk bed set for my daughters and a glam bedroom set...CASH!!! All together totaling approx $9,000!!! I was told that I would be taken care of, which in spending that amount, I expected! BUT at checkout I was told to leave something on the account to be protected in case anything went bad with the products. I took the advice but intentionally left only $30!!! On the tv only because it was an electronic and I had a little more faith in the fridge!! So I pay and ask about delivery. I'm told it couldn't happen until the next day and ALL items were going to be delivered and set up and I was first priority! I was happy. The next day however is when things starting going down hill. I was put on the last delivery for the day! After the RAC guys got here, I was told about how everything couldn't fit, some things got damaged and more. So that day all I got was the refrigerator, which I had to setup!!

Now I was not too mad at them for not being able to setup all things in one day. I understood. The next day came the dinette, tv and end tables and lamps. Which was not a problem except they set me up for the last delivery AGAIN! Not to mention, all was new, so no beds equal no mattresses, equals sleeping on the floor, which my first request was to have the beds in first so sleeping on the floor was not something we had to do. Then day 3 comes and I get told I'm finally getting my beds, but I am again put on the last delivery!!! And I only get one bed!! Then day 4 comes and I'm told I'll have my bed! They come with a loner bedroom set and only notify me of the status of my bed set at my Doorstep!!! because my new one was not new! I was so annoyed but I gritted through. Finally after everything was set up, I was told I'd owe in 90 days which was ok and my new bed would be ready in 4-6 weeks. Rewind to 5 weeks later...I CALLED THEM, and they say "oh yeah it's in". Setup will be available on Tuesday. Ok I said but what do I owe so I can just payoff and be completely done with the complete purchase.

He said he had to place me on hold while his managers totals everything up. Like 3 mins later he came back to the phone saying it'll be roughly about $400-$500!!! Definitely not the expected owed amount!? So I take all my receipts and papers for everything into the store to see about fixing the problem. The store manager was there that day to my short lived delight to which I explain why I'm there. He does not even care and passes me off to another in the store!!! I begin with the one "helping" me by saying I came in and spent cash and lots of it and I still owe THIS LARGE AMOUNT WHEN I LEFT ONLY $30? How is this possible?!! (By the way I had receipts and papers on everything) none of it was looked at despite my several requests for them to be looked at! I'm told that I left 3 accts open to which I owe.

I SPECIFICALLY LEFT $30 ONLY ON THE TV!!! But on the phone I was told I RENTED the dinette set!!! I was furious!!! I figured ok ** them I'll just pay!!! NEVER again will I deal with this sorry excuse of a company! So I pay $550 and get a ownership certificate to items I didn't rent and wasn't what they claimed I owed on. What the hell is wrong with this company??! NEVER AGAIN!! Don't allow your family, friends or even your enemies to get suckered by this place!! Hopefully this hole goes out of business!!

I've been renting from Rent-A-Center since May 2013 and up until I attempted to purchase more furniture, it had been great. I was solicited on the phone to come in and add furniture to my account for a great cost. Being that I was moving, I did need a dining set so I went in to add one. After I selected the item and made my first payment, I was told I had to go through the entire application process, where they proceeded to call my references to not only verify me but try and sell them stuff. UNACCEPTABLE.

Anyway, later that week my dining set arrived [3 hours later than they said it would] and I was told my bench broke in transit and they've already ordered a new one, "It should take two weeks". Fast forward to a month and half later and I have no idea where my bench is. I've made payments in full for something I don't have. I've called their corporate office and was promised a call that never came and I called my home office multiple times and was promised calls that never came. I feel absolutely helpless. I need furniture, but due to dumb decisions I made in my youth, my options are limited and feel completely taken advantage of by a company that claims to want to help me.

My wife could call in and have anything delivered. Customer service was awesome. Until recently first the manager we dealt with quit his replacement was still doing everything he could to please us. Then Cesar took over and my wife gets a call that we were late. She says she will pay on Friday but Cesar says no, he needs to pick things up. She says fine but wait till my husband or she is home. The next day Levi calls and says he's at the house. My wife tells him she's at work won't be home till 10 pm. He says he will wait, she hangs up on him.

I get home to find a door tag with writing on back saying due to payment history and hanging up on them they want merchandise back. I call from work next day and tell them pick up everything I still owe on. Went to Aarons and was treated like we used to be at RACs. Oh also Levi threatened to come get the things while my daughter and underage babysitter were here alone. My wife called corporate and nothing was done. I nor anyone we know will never rent from RAC again. I have never seen so poor customer service in my life. It's not like we were new rentals and who leaves written notes on doors. I am sad that RAC ended out from being good friends to being people zip would never trust.

After reading the complaints, I am not surprised one bit of the treatment I received. I rented to own a washer and dryer from this horrible company only to have the dryer break down shortly after I finished paying three times what it's worth. I then purchased another dryer only to have that one break down shortly after it was paid off as well. Now I have two dryers sitting in a storage unit with the heating unit burned out. I decided to give them another opportunity at my business, so I rented a sofa for a couple of weeks as to have something temporary when my family came to visit. After they left I called to have them pick it up. They set a pickup date and never showed. I was annoyed since I postponed errands to make myself available to them.

They obviously did not care one bit since they did not show up or even call to let me know they were not coming. When I called to find out what was going on the manager went on and on, explaining his employees had issues, one was out having a baby another did not show and on and on. I found this quite odd since a professional manager would never divulge personal information about his employees. Long story short, they set up another pickup date which turned into another no show. When I expressed my dissatisfaction about the whole situation to the manager his response was "I'll give you the 1800 number to call." Um, no thanks I can find it myself.

I have until midnight to pay if I am using online service, which is what I prefer not only because it's convenient, but I don't have to pay a fee to make a payment as I do when you call into the store ($1.99). I also asked them to stop charging me for the insurance they charge $6.36 for at the beginning of May and here I am again seeing the $6.36 added to my account. They are telling me that the only way to not pay is to call the damn store (which would mean paying the $1.99). It may not sound like a lot of money, but $1.99 and $6.36 adds up and whether it's a lot of money or not - it's my money - not RAC's. I can't wait to pay off the washer and dryer I have. Meanwhile another Young lady came in, asked what she should do about her new dryer she was renting to own. It has a broken belt. RAC should fix it but instead they told her she needs to have it fixed by a technician. That she will have to pay for it. I say contact a lawyer and sue them, maybe own that store or a new washer & dryer.. I will not rent or buy from them. Besides, who wants to pay 3 to 5 times the price?

My first time ever dealing with Rent a Center was in 2013. I rented a sectional. The manager had explained my payment plan. I specifically explain to him that I could not do an every week payment. That was not how I got paid and I would prefer every two weeks. He said that's fine. I can set it up that way but I would have to pay the month up so that's what I did after they explained to me the month's purchase. The delivery was so crazy it took them four days just to deliver and I had to take off work a day. Then the furniture had three torn slits in it so the same month they kept calling me harassing me.

I work a 24-hour shift four days a week. When I told them I just paid a month up, I was so over it. It was like whatever when I finally came home, I went to the store to make a purchase. The lady said, "You're late." I said, "I'm here now. Do you want the money or the merchandise?" She said the merchandise. I told her to come get it and they did. The next day, I talked to the district manager and he was saying that it wasn't nothing he could do - when you miss a payment that they have to come pick it up. He was rude and very inconsiderate.

Recently, I went to American Signature to purchase furniture. They said something had popped up with my social but my last name and first name was wrong back in 2008 as Skip to Stolen and I'm like, what the Hell. I was so mad at this point, I was ready to scream. I talked to the district manager again and he said it will never come off because it happen so long ago that he didn't have no boss over him and he was so inconsiderate as if this couldn't have had happen to him. Rude man. His name is Rodney **. He said he is the district and the regional manager and no one could help me.

My question was why rent to me after knowing that I stolen something the first time in which it wasn't me and why was it never mention to me at the time I rented my sectional? I am so upset. Words are not an option for me. At this point I'm going to have to stay fifty feet away from Rent A Center. I have a number to contact the right person. Now I have the regional manager name and I am currently trying resolve the issue. So please people if you can't pay cash, don't go to this place. You really have to make a decision based upon anything can happen in the future as far as hardship and you have paid all this money. I WAS paying for a washer and dryer set. Well, the washer has had nothing but problems in which I did let them know right away, and yes my account was past due because of life's troubles. My grandma was dying of cancer so I was spending as much time as possible with her and my family. Well the manager from 1 of the Marion, Indiana stores told me frankly, "I think you're a liar," and kept trying to yell over me. I did call and let him know to read the newspaper. My grandma's obituary was in it. I got not a sorry or nothing, on top of a broken washer that I was told by the workers I had to pay my account off. Then they'd bring me a washer to use while mine was getting serviced. So I paid it off. Then my cat died and left me 4 2-week-old babies to care for. My mom got admitted to the hospital where she'd almost pass away. I had court dates I had to tend to, just everyday life struggles.

I finally 3-4 weeks after I paid it off got a chance to call Rent-A-Center so they could change the washer out to send mine off to fix. Mind you, I have 3 kids and clothes are piled high, and I'm told yesterday they don't do that after an account is paid. So I call the 800 number bawling my eyes out. I was so upset and well no phone call back from the manager. So I call the Marion store back today and I'm told they'll come get my washer. They will NOT bring me a washer to use while mine is getting fixed and it won't be till Friday when they can pick it up and they're not sure how long it's gonna take to fix it. By far is that what I was told by the Rent-A-Center workers. They lie real bad. I wouldn't recommend RENT-A-CENTER TO MY WORST ENEMY. NEVER AGAIN ...

RAC sold my sister liability and benefits plus coverage. She was killed in a car accident later that month. If you accidentally lose your life it pays $5000, if you're not over 70. She was only 27 and left behind two children ages 2 and 3 yrs. of age. She had no ins. and their father passed a year ago. The mgr. told us to send the accident report and death certificate, telling my mom Jessica had listed her as beneficiary. We did as ask. Then my mom was ask to come sign papers so they could get her a check minus the cost of the television which should have been covered because it was stolen by someone from her living quarters located 3hrs. away when it became known she had passed.

We called to tell them this and the mgr. sent us a book explaining the benefits plus coverage just exactly like the one Jessica had stating to send the items mentioned above to make the claim. We are waiting to receive the check just to get a call saying the insurance is not going to pay because Jessica didn't get it on the 10th when the items were first rented. She got it on the 16th of the month when she came in to make an exchange. She got killed on the 20th and had not paid into the policy.

She was exchanging and tell me how many times have they ever let anyone set a beneficiary and enter a contract with no payment? They are saying that to cheat these poor babies out of that money and that is PATHETIC. Although, my mom was listed as her beneficiary. What's worse is the mgr. refused to tell me the ins. name, screamed at me that she knew we wanted her to issue us a check but she was out a TV. REALLY???

These children lost a mother. We lost a human being and she has the nerve to think anyone is worried about a TV that was stolen. Then when I told her we lost a loved one, she hung up on me telling me she was not even suppose to be talking to me. The lawyer at the ins. co. which I found in the benefits book they gave Jessica wasn't in, but the lady on the phone recommended us asking the manager to explain the coverage. We understand the coverage.

The mgr. refused to continue explaining anything because she was trying to contradict herself. She's the one that told us Jessica had the coverage. Guess she couldn't see she had not paid. Jessica paid them up front for the furniture and coverage. The fact is they are trying to deny payment to avoid paying up. Death is rare at Jessica's age by accident but it happens and the ins. should pay up. RAC in Scottsboro, AL is disgraceful to be doing business this way! I would not recommend anyone do business there.

I can agree with a lot of the complaints people have such as timely deliveries as well as high mark ups in prices. However complaints such as you ruin the merchandise and it is no longer rentable for someone else and you expect them to take it back, that's ridiculous. The phone calls are overwhelming; however, they are intended to be used as simple reminders and those of you who have rented from Rent-A-Center know it clearly states on the contract payments are expected ON OR BEFORE THE DUE DATE, not after the due date or whenever you feel like it.

Now try putting yourself in the employee's shoes. Customers who are rude to them, why because you don't want to pay your bill on time? I myself work for Rent-A-Center. I have three bosses in a four-man store, one who works, the rest who sit down all day playing on their phone. Yes when you say professional courtesy is not there, I agree. They are too worried about their games than the customers. I think its crap. A majority of the customers are on social security and don't get the service they deserve and that employees play favorites. I also think it's crap to be the only one in the store to do any hard labor while others mess off.

Moral is not everyone can get along but certain people when following proper company guidelines get along better than others. Just feel your way through everyone, find out who you feel personality wise is better to serve your needs, and build a relation. Just because one store sucks does not mean they all do. I personally rent from Aaron's and have had just as many complaints. Rental companies suck in general. It's something that won't change. You just have to make the best of it for yourself, you know.

My refrigerator suffered a compressor failure so I decided to rent a fridge until the part came in that would fix mine, about a week. The only good thing about RAC is that they would rent me a fridge for two weeks rather than the obligatory 1-3 months other places wanted. They promised that after filling out the necessary paperwork my fridge would be delivered that day before 7 p.m. This was about 1:30 p.m. No show. The next day a call to the store first said the driver had numerous deliveries and only one driver was available, so it would take a while, no time frame given. A second call they said between 1-3 p.m. He didn't make it until about 4:30 p.m.

O.K, we finally have our fridge. After two hours the fridge was not cooling properly. Thermometers placed in the freezer showed a minimum of 30 degrees, the fridge 60. A freezer is supposed to go to 0 degrees F, the fridge a minimum of 40, preferably 35. This rental was no good. A call to the office and the manager said we should not have set the thermostat to full cooling, but instead start out at a high setting and lower it every 30 minutes. WTF? I call ** on this guy. First he lies about our delivery time and now he's a cooling technician? No. So it's this late in the day, I follow his stupid instructions just for the helluva it. Naturally it don't matter. Yeah, I know my grammar better than this but you get the point. We tell the lady who answers the phone and says she's the asst. mngr., the problem and we want a replacement first thing tomorrow. "But of course," she says. Again another lie. My wife calls the next day to find out when they will be out. The manager answers with a snotty attitude and says, "yes, he's aware of our problem and they will get to it when they can." Oh and by the way, I've already paid with my credit card. They've got us hooked.

About 3:30 day two, the driver shows up with a replacement. One guy trying to move the fridge up our wooden steps into our mobile home, alone. I'm at work, my wife is unable to assist due to a disabled back. He gets it to the landing before entering the house and finds that the screen door must be partially disassembled to enter. In doing so he damages and scratches both the screen door and door frame. Not badly but still, I kinda like my home and prefer it not be damaged for me to repair at my expense. Still, we got our fridge. Now three hours later and this one seems to be working within normal parameters. The freezer thermometer is reading 0 and the fridge is at 40. Hoping it will drop a bit more. Still, I believe I shall have to replace the screen door (actually half screen, half glass, or a reasonable facsimile) due to some type of warping and non-repairable scratches as well as the pneumatic door closer. Don't know why but it worked fine before but no longer.

Our overall experience has been nothing but anger and rage. The store cares not a bit about customer satisfaction, completely disregarding potential future business loss. I shall never go back and would warn others to carefully consider their options before choosing RAC.

I have read all of the complaints and negative comments on here, and found it somewhat disturbing. This is definitely proof that your experience with Rent-a-Center will vary according to which part of the country you might be in. For example, they have been very good to me...and I will elaborate.

I moved to this area (Little Rock) to start a new life a few years ago. The life I left behind was good, but troubled. I had my own technology company, with employees and payroll and taxes and huge loans to various banks for starting and running my business. To make a long story short, my business went belly-up because of the local economy in the area that I was at the time, and I had to close down. I went through a long ordeal with bankruptcy, and had to pay off a great deal of money for those loans, state taxes, etc. when we closed.

When I arrived to start my new life in Little Rock, I was still in the five-year period where I was paying off all of the old debt from the closed business, and was not allowed to acquire any new debt under court order. We were just starting out, and we got ourselves a modest place to live, but had no real furniture to speak of. We ended up seeing an ad for a nice local furniture store, Cleo's Furniture. They had a couple RAC reps there onsite to help people just like me. The reps were very helpful, and we were able to pick out the necessities for the home... A bedroom set, living room set, and a few odds and ends. The rep that we worked with was especially nice, and took time to thoroughly explain each and every page I was signing. Everything arrived, and it was all brand new. We were very happy.

Now, about their payment tactics...yes, they are a bit aggressive in their method, but I looked into this further. And yes, this seems to vary according to which part of the country you are from... They have an automated system which reminds them to call their clients. This is supposed to help folks remember, and not really meant to harass, especially if you pay on time. With a few requests from me, they changed this reminder to an automated email for me, which is much more convenient.

A couple of times early on while getting our new lives settled here, there were a couple of months where we had to pay the payment late. We were on a monthly payment plan. A simple call to them BEFORE the due date, and they were extremely helpful, and very courteous. Also, folks should know that you can pay off your bill with them at any time, and the earlier you pay it off, you save a lot of money in the end. Since these are things that we always intended on keeping, we are paying off our bills with them and saving a great deal of money.

I am sorry to see that so many other locations have spoiled it for so many people, and I will just consider myself lucky to live in an area where our RAC reps are as good as they are. Believe me, if I am unhappy I speak up...but in my own personal experience with our local RAC here in Cleo's Furniture in Little Rock, I have nothing but good things to say. I hope everyone is able to resolve their problems, and it wish everyone the best of luck.

We had purchased a brand new foam mattress that was defective and I let the assistant mgr know at the Lynn, Mass. store where we purchased this item. She made an arrangement with my wife to bring another mattress, and the mattress they brought into my home was a used mattress without a manufacturer's plastic. I brought this to the attention of the assistant manager and told her that this is not hygienic as there are diseases that can be contracted such as bed bugs and other bugs that can infect your skins. She said that they thoroughly disinfect the mattress in store themselves, and what really disturbs me is that they do not hire a professional to do this type of work where they have experience, instead they do it themselves.

This is troubling to me and to top it all off, they charge you the same as if its brand new. If it wasn't for me to look into the agreement they would have gotten away with this. And to top it all of, why the hell are they selling used mattress to clients, paying three times the amount of its original cost and they keep getting away with this unfair practice. I am discussing this with the assistant manager so she can change this mattress because I do not want it and she wants to bring me a new one where I have to start payments again from the beginning disregarding the money I have been paying from the very beginning. I told her it is not my fault that the foam mattress was defective from the outset, then she brings me a used one where I am paying new price, and now she has to email her supervisor to see if she can bring me a new mattress and continue payments. They get away with murder and they rob consumers blind and their customer service is nonexistent and unprofessional.

Later I needed a bedroom suite. The same lying manager told me that she could have charged me 17% for her guys to come out that night. I didn't know what she was talking about. She was so rude, she hung up on me after I told her I would not do business with them again. I have made every payment but RAC is totally unprofessional. I do believe RAC Acceptance is a business predator that preys on the poor and low income people who have bad credit or no credit at all. RAC Acceptance uses threat of lawsuits, wage garnishment, and other intimidation tactics against its customers because they know these customers do not have the financial means to hire big time lawyers to fight them and therefore customers are left with no option but to fall into their trap and do what they you to do. They have their corporate lawyers but they forget there are lawyers for the little guys too who are as aggressive as their corporate lawyers.

In 2010 I rented some furniture from RAC Acceptance located in Ashley Store. It took them 2 months to deliver the furniture to my house and they had the audacity asking me to pay for time that I did not have the furniture. My current problem with them is this. In July 2012, I rented from them a bedroom set that was in "clearance" at the time ( As-Is) and a living room set (one couch and one recliner). This branch is located inside of Value City Furniture. I made all my payments on time and never missed a payment.

On February 10, 2014, I called the store and asked that they come to pick up the furniture because I had no more use for the furniture and they said okay, they will come to pick up the furniture. On February 14, 2014, they came and picked up only the bedroom set and refused to pick up the couch and the recliner because there is a 1-inch scratch on the back of one of the back rests. They said that unless I make the repair, they will not pick up the couch and the recliner. They called me frequently asking for payments and making threats to garnish my wages, or they will report me to the credit bureau with a charge of $5000, forcing me to buy the furniture, or they will turn the case to their corporate lawyers.

Keep in mind, I do not owe any payments to these people nor that I refused to give them back the furniture. They made a well calculated decision NOT to take the furniture out of my place. According to #8 of the contract, Title: LOSS/DAMAGES reads as follow: "You are responsible for the value of the merchandise if it is damaged. If lost, the most you will have to pay is you EPO price. If damaged beyond normal wear and tear, the most you will have to pay is your Early Purchase Option (EPO) price of the cost of repair, whichever is less." #6 of the contract says: "YOUR DUTY TO RETURN THE MERCHANDISE reads as follow: If you decide NOT to continue this agreement, you agree to return the merchandise to the store at the address above or to arrange for us to pick it up immediately upon our request. If you refuse to return the merchandise, you may be subject to prosecution. Also, you will be responsible for our attorney's fees if allowed under the state law." Nowhere in the contract it says "if the furniture is damaged, they will not pick it up until it is fixed by the customer."

I ended the contract when I called them on February 10, 2014 and arrangements made for them to pick up the furniture on February 14, 2014. I have been fighting with them since they picked up the bedroom set on February 14, 2014 to come get the couch and the recliner but they categorically refused and they keep refusing to come get them. This has been causing me a lot of stress, sleepless nights, and high anxiety. I feel they hold me hostage with the furniture because if I would like to move out of state, for example, I would not be able to that with the furniture in my place. They are using my place as a storage for their furniture and I think I should charge them for every day the furniture still remain in my place.

What's the point making a contract if they are not going to respect it? Does that mean contracts are made for customers only and not for corporate businesses? Maybe I need a lawyer to sue them for everything they got. This is not good business practices and what RAC Acceptance is doing to customers is against the law and I think it is time that the US-Attorney General pays close attention to that company.

Finally about a week before Christmas someone comes and takes it back. That employee didn't give me anything to sign, he just took it and left. Then I get a letter January 8th demanding that they get their dryer back... Hello, they picked it up over two weeks ago... While going over my monthly bank statement, I noticed they were still taking money out. When I called them, they informed me that I had not made the final payment on time and that I would now owe them an additional $450.00 if I wanted to purchase the sofa. This on top of what they already overcharged me made me furious. I have paid them well over $1000.00 and now they want more when they were the ones who set up the payment arrangements.

My mistake was trusting their math and them. By the time I finished reading all the contracts and contradictions, I was so confused that I allowed them to convince me that setting up direct pay at the minimum amount would be more than enough. Their only response to me is too bad you owe it or return the sofa. I have read court documents about Rent A Center showing how they use strong arm tactics like kicking down doors, harassing family, friends, employers, employees that people work with to get their money. I am concerned about how they are going to handle this but I am not willing to just roll over and take it. I've had my furniture for about 4 months after paying my bill on time or even a day before its due date. A couple of weeks ago I lost my 2nd part time job and wasn't able to make a full payment every week. I called Tyreek the store manager and explained my situation to him and requested that my payments be moved to every 2 weeks since every week wasn't how I was getting paid anymore. He was really rude about the situation and said he would see what he could do. A few days go by and I start getting 6-9 phone calls a day, then 2-3 visits to my home a week.

I work in a hospital and I can't answer my personal phone at any time and after finally telling the store manager my concerns with the phone harassment, he tells me I need to stay in full contact with him or it won't stop!!! I asked him why I was being called so much and had so many house visits. He said because I was 3 weeks late... I tell him I requested my payments be changed to bi-weekly and I guess he didn't share that information with your employees or even change it in the system. I came in on my payday and paid $200 on my account. He told me I needed $60 More and he would waive the $100 late fee. I couldn't believe that I had a late fee that was more than my payment. I've now paid over $2,500 on my furniture and Still being harassed more than ever.

2 delivery men showed up to my home after 8:30. Mind you, they close at 6:30 and started throwing things at my glass double doors. When I finally got the courage to look outside, I find RAC business card outside. I was beyond pissed and offended. I called the store right away and spoke to the ASM. She tells me they were closed already and she couldn't give me no account information but that Tyreek told her we were giving the furniture up. I was so mad that he told me I was in good standing and that I could come make my next payment on the 14th of Dec. Then come to find out he took my money and still was planning to take my furniture.

I called and filed a complaint with the corporate RAC and was told I'd be contacted by the DM. I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A CALL. I've paid so much on my stuff and after calling them today, Dec 14th, I was told he wanted the stuff back and would be here in 20 min. Here I am 3 hours and still no show. I feel bad for you people. The laptop was supposed to be brand new but it wasn't, and I realized it after noticing that someone had previously had it because they had had MSN as their ISP and they had downloaded a few other programs on the laptop.

I didn't bring it to their attention because I thought it was the default ISP for the laptop and by the time I realized it, decided to keep it anyway. And I knew I wouldn't get my down payment back and it was an excellent laptop and my friends had told me that it was fantastic laptop and the top of the line for HP laptops. I have talked to other people who have bought products from Rent-A-Center and it seems to be the norm that a lot of their products have been previously been owned by other people before someone else rented it and I guess that is way they call it Rent-A-Center. Okay, so I've been renting from them for the past going on two months now. I've been on time with my payments and make the payments actually the day before so I really don't get any annoying calls from them. Yes, you are going to way over pay for anything you get from them! Just a fact! You don't have the dough up front and they take advantage of it, it's how they run their biz lol. I don't like it but I'm not complaining because I never would have had a 60" smart TV if they didn't.

The only thing I'm angry about is that I was lied to about the Black Friday sale. Even the flier stated that if you paid for a week you got 4 weeks free and well that didn't happen. They just told me the guy that told me that didn't know what he was talking about. Bummer but whatever I still love the TV! One thing that made me angry my first time getting something from there is that when I wanted a specific laptop they had, they had already sold it as they were writing my paper work up. Bummer. So they ended up handing over a USED Acer to me and it was FILTHY!! Screen was nasty crumbs and only god knows what else was on the keyboard but hey I'm using it right now and its working.

I'd like to buy this laptop but when I told them I would offer them no more than what the cost of it brand new was for it they didn't seem like they'd be willing to go on it. But hey I'm still going to try :) So far, they have been good to me and yea I know I am going to end up paying about $500 more than I would have if I had the cash up front for my TV but hey it's financed and I'm not going to complain since I know I would never actually take the initiative to save that money myself to buy it! I'm good with budgeting, not saving. Lol.

    This laptop I have already paid about $120 into it and this week is the week I talk about paying it off but def. not for the $600 they want for it being used and the condition they handed it to me in. The thing is only about $200 - $250 brand new. I actually had to finish the system restore (which was... not the right way to rent or sell it but hey if you are going to rent or finance a laptop from them, just don't put any sort of personal information or files on it because it isn't hard to back them up). So yea, I'm mixed about them. Hate the interest, but love to have things that I need and want without the dough upfront! (;

My diatribe stems from the staff's (Ashley Furniture - Fairfield, CA) inability to clearly explain the lease contract I was committing to, the neglect of not providing me a signed copy of my lease agreement, a tax for shipping (a store policy), an inclusion of a "Benefits Plus" coverage within the lease I was not aware of and did not approve and a "phantom certificate of ownership" correspondence I never received after successful completion of my lease. More importantly is the area of exorbitant tax and charges included in the lease that unfortunately could be argued but not resolved in any form to a consumer. I equate this to a "Cash Advance" business whose sole purpose is to exploit desperate consumers with shameful overpriced fees.

My experience evolved over a period of just two and a half months (Sept to Nov). I have expressed my concerns regarding my signed copy of the lease to the corporate office customer service department and the district manager with no results other than a patronizing return call from the district manager. A devious protocol in my experience was the nondisclosure of a list of required personal or professional references. My references complained about very intrusive questioning such as, "Do you know the directions to his home?" Other than this process being a requirement; I was never given a reason to have specifically no less than four (4) references in order to process my lease application. My phone conversations and concerns were met with a high degree of frustration and unreasonable, excessive tax and fees. Like the auto, mortgage, furniture and finance industries, it is predatory lending in a false economic environment. The quality of the product doesn't reflect or measure the amount of humiliation and frustration I paid for. My rating is: Zero.

She banged on my door, parked in the middle of my street with her hazard lights on, beeping the horn and flashing a flashlight in my window for about 15-20 minutes. I considered calling the police but knew that it was a civil matter and it would have been a waste of their time. I have contacted the district manager for something to be done, and do plan on taking it higher up if need be. They cannot be allowed to harass people like that even if you do have their "property" (even though with the amount of money you pay it's yours within the first 90 days). It's really a shame that this company with such a reputation has employees that conduct themselves like a bunch of thugs!!!

I rented a sofa and chair from the Waynesboro, PA Rent-A-Center for a shop I had. When I closed my shop, I moved the suite to my home. Within a week I went in to the store to change it out. I got another suite. When it was delivered the girl tore a hole in the back of the sofa... I am on disability so I get paid once a month. When I had my wife call them and tell them I couldn't pay that day, the manager said she wanted the stuff back or the money... Since then I get at least 5 calls a day from different numbers, rude messages, telling family members I owe them money and they will get me for stealing their stuff! I'm tired of the harassing phone calls and now letters demanding I return their stuff since I'm a deadbeat...

I had to go out of town to take care of my mother and I called them and told them I would be back the 15th to make payment! They continued to try and call and leave rude voice mails. My phone got shut off and I am still out of town and every time I try to call and explain what's going on, they do not answer the phone. My neighbors called my husband and said that they have banging on our old apartment door and cussing and saying rude things. I tried to call their corporate office but no one ever gets back to me !!! I have a couple of things to say about these so-called bad experiences from RAC. Everyone complaining I bet is because they go late in their rental agreement and not only that refuse to return the product because they have a sense of ownership even though they haven't even paid their 90 days same as cash. Every RAC will explain to you, here is your 90 SAC and if not and you decide to make the minimum payments, you will end up paying this. Don't act like no one explained to you. If you can't pay, don't rent it, period. Stop your complaining. Read your rental agreement and if you don't, just call the store and return it. DON'T COMPLAIN. IF YOU DON'T FOLLOW YOUR PART OF THE AGREEMENT, RETURN THE ITEM.

They kept the couch for 4 weeks and when it came back it still didn't seem right so the repair guy came back out. He said they did not repair it with new parts like they said they did [explained to me that this was the hold up, the new parts they had ordered where taking a long time to ship]. He was really upset saying RAC just patched it up versus repairing it. When I contacted the store and told them what was said by the repair man, they denied it.

As of December 27, 2012, I went to Value City in Dearborn, MI to talk directly to a (RAC) Sales Manager by the name of Trevor ** about my mattress sinking in the center. Mr. ** assured me he would get it taken care of by having someone come out to inspect the mattress as soon as possible which he did not enter into the computer after multiple phone calls of talking to me. It was always the some response from him - he could not get anyone on the phone. I guess he never intended on helping me at all! Then my husband, Jason **, got back involved and he went to the store in person on January 18, 2013 and got the inspection appointment set up for them to come out to our house and have the mattress inspected by talking to someone different. The mattress was inspected and found to be clean because we purchased all of their products to keep it protected and it was found to be defective because it had sank in 1 inch in center documented by their inspector on January 23, 2013. But, the inspector did not do any measurements. He just inspected it by looking at it by visual.

The inspector noted on the paperwork for someone to give us a call as soon as possible. And now as of February 2, 2013, we have not yet received a phone call from anyone from the Dearborn store and my husband has left multiple messages and no one has returned our phone calls. So, my husband is going to drive to the store again in person to talk to someone at the store February 2, 2013. He returned from the store and was told by Jason **, the Operations Manager, the mattress has to be sank in the center more the 2 1/2 inches for them to take it back. Now, this is not stated in our warranty about purchasing a uncomfortable sank in the center can not be returned. We purchased a queen size mattress. It's within warranty and we took care of it but the store is still refusing to honor our warranty by replacing the mattress because they are telling us the model of this mattress was discontinued too but we had just purchased it when they got it in their store in April 2012.

We are not asking for money back on the mattress. We are asking for them to honor our manufacturer warranty and give us a new mattress to sleep on after purchasing a defective one from them. The mattress has us sleeping in a V shape right next to get other every night in still of parallel next to each other. Immediately, we both round into the center when laying down in the bed. We are asking for money back on the Extended Warranty Mr. Youssef (Joe) **, Consultant, added to our purchase for fire, water and wind damage we did not ask for because our homeowners insurance covers us for any of that. Customers should be treated fairly and we are being treated like we stole something from them! I'm very unhappy with their customer service, all this trouble for making an honest purchase.

As of September 14, 2013, I need to reopen my previous complaint for Value City and RAC. I am now being told the store manager, Trevor **, and district manager, Kurt **, do not work there anymore and no one has adjusted our agreement from the first case we opened other than giving us a new bed. But we never got our payments adjusted or the 6 months of credit promise. All the collection people we talked to on the phone for weeks told us to call the new District Manager who refuses to call us back and talk to us when we are not at work or most of the time do not call back at all.

So, now they are sending vehicle to our house to collect a bed we have paid them for since 4/28/2012 of payments of $131.62 a month up to 1/31/2013 which begin at $899. A bed they took back because it was defective. They now want to charge us for the replacement bed without giving us any credit for what we already paid for the amount of $959.86 at $125.61 a month. I do not understand why this company wants to rob us by charging us for two beds and we only have one bed from them. We need your help. Please reopen back up our case as soon as possible. My biggest issues with Rent A Center are these. If you are even one day late, they come to your house. I don't know any reputable company that does that. Also, you pay much more than you would if you just went to a place that offers layaway. And the furniture you do get, is extremely low grade. When they came to get the fridge I was renting, it took them a really long time to get it out. And two seconds after they left, the new fridge stopped working (that I had bought from some place else). When I went in to the kitchen, the button was broken on the inside of the freezer...so maybe just my bad luck or maybe someone broke it. Just saying. Stay away from this shady place. You can always do better in an emergency... Borrow the money, go on Craigslist, fix your credit, do whatever you have to do...but don't go here.

After 16 months of no employment, my fiance and I finally got jobs and were getting back on our feet. We sold all of our furniture in order to pay for food during the lack of employment along with everything else we owned. We decided for our first Christmas (2012) with our new jobs to get a very inexpensive living room set as a present for the both of us. We went to the store several times to pick out just the right set, making sure it was a reasonable monthly payment. We found it in Rooms To Go in Plano, Texas. Because we had been out of work for so long and our credit was less than sufficient to buy through Rooms To Go, we turned to RAC acceptance. The two guys that got our paperwork together and went over the contract were as polite and friendly as they come. They made it so easy and explained every page we were signing so we would not have to read it.

I started crying right there in the store because I was so excited about our new beginning. During the signing of the papers we were told there is a deferred monthly payment program if you pay a small fee every month. The deferred payments cover job loss and sickness. Absolutely, I want to be covered from every angle just in case. We paid from December through April for a total of $853.45. My fiance lost his job in the first week of May due to a theft of a firearm from his place of employment. He followed a Police Officer's direct order to stay with the suspect until their arrival which was apparently against company "policy". My fiance was out of employment and we were out about 2/3 of our income.

It was a few days before our payment was due and I remember the deferred payments option. Everything was going to be okay. We went to RAC inside Rooms To Go in Plano, Texas and told the two guys that signed us up, what had happened. They gave us forms to fill out, one for the previous employer and one for ourselves. Because the previous employer wrongfully terminated my fiance and they knew that, they weren't going to be bothered with filling out forms so we could keep our furniture. We went back to the store to turn in our paperwork and explained the situation. They said it was no problem and to give them the corporate phone number. They would do a phone confirmation and everything was taken care of. Awesome.

A month goes by as does our first deferred payment and not a word from RAC. Whew... What a relief. Now we can focus on food and rent. I was so glad I decided to pay extra to cover payments for job loss. A month later I get a phone call saying the payment was missed and they need it now or to pick up the furniture. I explained to the RAC manager, Evette, that we signed up for deferred payments and my fiance had just got a job. It was commissioned based. He would not be receiving a paycheck until the work was completed. Approximately 3-4 weeks. After Evette and I get off the phone I think everything is okay once again. Wrong. Everyday, several times a day I got phone calls. Threatening and harassing phone calls from Evette. She was so rude and disrespectful calling me by my first name a few times within a single sentence. I told her every phone call we were covered by deferred payments and kept her updated on the job situation. (My fiance's boss took every drop of commission my fiance was supposed to receive. He didn't receive a dime for the work he did. Back to square one.)

A few weeks later during one of her phone calls she informs me she did our deferred paperwork and we did not qualify. I beg your pardon? Don't qualify? That could not be further from the truth. The phone calls continued daily, and if the call was missed RAC (Evette) would call back 5-6 times in a row leaving one voice message somewhere in the mix of dead silence followed by a slamming of the phone receiver. Evette even called on 4th of July to continue with her threats and harassment. I told her, it is a holiday and I am spending time with my family. Thanks for calling but I will not be dealing with you today and I hung up. Every phone call thereafter for quite some time Evette's opening statement was "I keep trying to get a hold of you and you keep hanging up on me." Really? Because I'm not going to have the same conversation I have with you everyday on a holiday? It was literally word for word the same conversation everyday all the while Evette is getting more and more hostile and hateful.

I would tell her I have deferred payments. She would argue. I told her if she did not want to honor my contract then she can come get the furniture after I get a full refund. She would argue. I told her my total bill was just shy of $1,500.00 and I've paid $853.45 she can do a partial return of the items that have not been paid for in full. She would argue. Everyday! One day I told her, "You are a horrible person and you are not to contact me anymore whatsoever. If there is an issue someone else can call me." Evette turns around and calls my fiance and tells him I said no one can call me anymore. He was standing right next to me when I told her she can no longer call me so he knew she was lying.

During this time I am also calling the corporate offices, leaving messages for someone to contact me, never once receiving a phone call back. From that point forward I got phone calls from countless people daily at the store level, each one with a different story and more lies. Each phone call from my end was unwavering. It's a beautiful thing when you tell the truth, you don't have to keep up with which lie you told last time. September 1st, I get a letter in my mailbox saying they are going to press criminal charges on me for theft of service. By this point my "nice" had worn off and I made it clear this was a false allegation and if charges are filed I will be filing charges as well. All Evette could do was repeat herself which never made any sense and hasn't from day one.

At this point the furniture has lost all of the joyous feelings we originally associated with it. I am returning the furniture on Wednesday and they can keep my money. They obviously need it way more than we do. The moral of the story is the more lack of integrity and honesty, the more crooked, worthless, and evil you are is directly related to how far you will move up in management with RAC Acceptance. Word to the wise: DON'T EVER DO BUSINESS WITH RAC ACCEPTANCE!

I had obtained a washer and dryer from Rent A Center 12-1212 when I moved to a new home. The payments were $105.25 a month for 11 months. Here it is August of 2013 and they say I still owe money on the washer and dryer. I had to sent the washer away to be fixed because it stopped working. They have had the washer for 5 months and refused to return the washer so the explanation is I had to pay extra for the loaner machine. In my contract it says 11 months for monthly payments, etc and then the contract also says the weekly payment plans are longer. What these morons were doing they put me on the weekly plan, when I paid the full month I overpaid by $840.00. When my payment was due on the date that I needed to pay they blew up my phone by calling every 15 minutes leaving harassing messages and if I was a day late they came to my home banging on the door and looking in my windows and climbing the fence trying to get into the house to get the items I supposedly did not pay on time and did missed quite a few payments.

In the meantime I moved to a new house. I gave them the address right away and also rented bunk beds and living room furniture as a means for the kids to sit and sleep. The beds they brought me wasn't the beds I originally signed the contract for and they installed them incorrectly and the beds fell apart when the kids were sleeping on them collapsing to the floor and the kids ended up sleeping on the living room set that has fleas from another home and the kids got bit up pretty bad. They accused me of the kids jumping on the bed and my dog putting the fleas on the living room set. Remember we only had these items for a few hours. I sent these items back and just kept the washer and dryer. They called me at least 15 times a day to harass me, came to my house, banged on the doors after 9 pm, along with looking in the windows, etc. They said that they needed to collect what was due in any means possible. If that's going to the house after hours then they will.

I called the police a number of times to report people at my home uninvited. Their explanation to the police they were here to recover their things but the police let them go. I have had my neighbors frantically calling me because they are in my patio trying to get to the washer and dryer. The police was called and they said that they had my permission. They call me when I am at work. I said no they did not, they're trespassing and they have broken in. They let them go because it is a civil matter. They have come in their own vehicles after hours, etc. Granted this is on the day the payments are due or a day or two after they're due. I had my babysitter at the house, she answered the door and they grabbed the door from her hand and try to get in but my dogs stopped them.

I contacted the corporate office 6 times and finally I demanded the area manager to get on the phone after I threatened a lawsuit and he ended up closing out the account and I gave their company orders if they trespassed again I would use any means possible to protect my home. They will not bother me again. They still owe me money and I do plan on pursuing legally with an attorney that I have obtained. WARNING: these guys are thugs and they don't care what they do to get the money from customers.

So, I'm not going to lie. I am horrible about my payments. It's usually a week or two late but I always pay it off. - Always, with interest. I work a full time job, rent a 1-br apt, am ineligible for food stamps, and live on my own. There is no other income for me, so buying a new couch is impossible for me. In retrospect, I should have gone to Craigslist at first or something. I was told that if I paid it off in three months, I would be fine, but I was never informed about the deadline. So far, I've paid over 1,400 dollars, and when I called them, I still have over 2,000 dollars left on the couch/loveseat set, and 1,000 dollars on the fridge. The fridge is only 700 bucks and the couch is only 1,500 bucks! I don't understand this.

Recently, they asked me to return the couch and the fridge. So I scheduled a day. They were supposed to come in today at 2 pm. Not only did they not show - making me late for work - but they then showed up at 5:30 pm, and left a note on my door to call them for a reschedule. HELLO?! I was there at 2 pm. Where were they? Do they really expect me to wait all day for them? I have a job to do! I can't afford to wait around for them. The day the items are due, they blow up my phone. Then, when I walked to their store and talked to them in person, they were nice to my face.

I even had one guy show up at my apartment demanding 270 bucks! They said I was 3 weeks late, and that if I didn't pay it that day, I would lose the items. Um....no! I remember paying on time. I do not recommend this place. I'm currently looking around for someone who has a truck so that I can put these things in the back of it myself and haul it to their store then push the items through their front door and saying, "** YOU ALL!" whilst flipping them off.

I rented a laptop about a year ago from RAC. I wouldn't call 2 or 3 days late on a payment particularly bad. Well, it's not the case to RAC. Talk about harassment and threats! Calls to my references and house were 3-4 times daily, and usually on Saturdays, they will show up to your house demanding for the item. Not to mention that on the phone they're extremely rude. Manassas, Va store has numerous times threatened me to go to court the following Monday. That's **! The laptop I have is only worth $700-$800 anyway and I've already paid around $1800 and still owe like $450.

I get it; they need to make their money too; but if I'm paying, perhaps a couple of days late, who cares? I'm not stealing it. You have my info; you know where I live. Why must you harass me?!! At this point, I will finish paying it off, but I will NOT be coming back. Repossessors who come to take your car after 3 months of non-payment are 10x nicer (not talking from experience, lol, just saying with confidence). I read that this happens nationwide and that corporate knows about this and this is how RAC runs their business.

I can't see them staying in business very much longer. But they do, you pay a late fee after not paying for a day or 2. It's ridiculous. That's the reason RAC is in business, perhaps you can't afford to fork over $1000 for a new one, or have the credit to apply to loan one. They should realize, you will get your money, but now! You're a joke! Please refrain from using them unless you plan to pay ON TIME EVERY TIME. It doesn't make you a bad person to be late, or have bad karma to be late. It just means that you may need to pay for groceries first every once in a while. Got to go, RAC is calling me!! Bye!

Since then, the district manager not only came to my place of employment but he also made mention of how he treated a family member, he would do the same to me. I, in turn, told him not to come to my job again and he asked me if that was a threat. I told him no, then he threatened me by saying, "Oh because we can get personal, you step outside." I then asked him if that was a threat and he lied and said he would never threaten me. He then calls me constantly after.

We do get a call to remind us of our payment but if you pay your bill, you have no problem. As I said, we have dealt with lots of Rent-A-Centers but Spring Lake is the best! A lot of the time, we only focus on the bad but when some company goes above the line for you, they should be awarded!!! The general manager, John, says, whenever I have tried to get his help, "You have signed a contract." Well, it may be true that I signed a contract, but I did not expect to pay and pay and pay without seeing the balance come down. I am so upset about their deceptive practices and refusal to adjust my account to reflect the correct balance. All I want is for my payments to count. It is as if they have stolen my money. They have asked to come and pick up my furniture, but I have paid way too much money into it. RAC Acceptance is a predatory lender. They need to be forced to disclose all of their unusual tactics.

When I took out the laptop and turned it on, it was password protected so the employees lied by saying it was new and charging her for a new product price. So we took it in the next day and they gave us a loaner laptop which was an Acer Aspire v5. We couldn't make the payment one week after a month of having the laptop so they started coming by and calling and harassing us and our family about a bill.

The manager up at the shop kept forgetting to send in the Samsung laptop to get it replaced and the day they came and took my Acer, we called and they said that it has been there for 2 weeks so I am guessing that they fixed it and rented it out and never told me. So a couple of weeks went by and they sent a voucher in the mail so that I can pick up where I left off. But they tried to say that we only paid 84 dollars on the laptop. So I went in and got another laptop with the addition of a tablet, and when they were telling us the prices of the products, I found out that the tablet they gave me was really worth 220 dollars and they tried to say it was 640 dollars, so they lied about that as well. I'm sorry I don't pay for damaged goods especially when I watch you rip it coming through my door. Anyway, it's been three months. I have paid all payments. I have the payoff for furniture.

I was at work and told them that they would have to replace the couches before I pay off furniture. They acted dumb and such like they didn't know what I was saying. I have pics of the damage. They told me they would replace them. They tried to come to my house when I was at work and took the furniture from my wife. Who does business like this seriously? You damaged it, you should repair it. I even got the insurance but their mistake, they should fix it right. Isn't that how this goes? I have rights. I know them. I'm a repo man but I don't know exactly everything. My complaint is that I have never encountered such bad management as I have with the Clearlake store. I was one day late with the payment and tried to make it right and the manager was not okay with taking that payment. They constantly call the day it's due from right when they open as if I have no job to go to before they get paid. At the Black Friday sale, I was quoted a certain price from an employee there and when I went back the next day, he had told me the price was $50 more than quoted. I was refusing to sign, but this employee offered to pay the extra out of pocket, which he has not done yet to date, just to keep my contract and as a customer for sales. This is poor business for any place. The manager is so bad that all the other employees talk bad about her in front of and with other customers. Not even her employees can stand her. Yes it's that bad. Never rent in Clearlake unless they can get new management and learn to be more professional.

There were four missed calls one after another on my cell phone because we were not allowed to answer cell calls when at work, then they called my office. I informed them I was at work and would be by five min after 12:30 the were located only a light away.

I made my payment and come the second Saturday, the phone calls started again. Once again, my payment was not late because I had till closing to make a payment on Saturday but they were calling again. I informed them again that I work on Saturday, every Saturday and as soon as I leave work I would make my scheduled payment which was exactly what I did. The 3rd Saturday, again, there were phone calls to my cell and to my office, and I told them not to call me anymore on Saturday because my payment was not late and if it was going to be an issue every Saturday, to pick up the bedroom set. They apologized and said the phone calls would stop. They stopped for one Saturday.

On the 5th Saturday, we had a family emergency and I called and informed them that I would be in first thing Monday because they were closed Sunday to make my payment and they said that was fine. They opened at 9 and I had to be at work by 8 so I already asked my boss if I could at around 9:15 to make my payment. At 9:05 am, they pulled up in the furniture truck to my office to collect my payment. I have had enough at this point, really! The next two payments were made again on time and the following Saturday I called and asked them if I could make my payment on Tuesday because that was what day my check was coming.

They told me they would pick up my furniture and bring it back on Tuesday. I told them to pick it up and they could keep it. Of course, they did not show up and, on Wednesday, my children were home from school on holiday, 10, 11, and 13 yrs old. Rent-A-Center showed up 5 times and each time stayed knocking for 15 min. and then waited in my driveway for another 10 min. They also knocked so hard that the last time they knocked, the door actually popped open! My children were terrified and my husband and I were working. I think it is outrageous, the lengths they have gone in collecting on an account that was not late and to think that when I did need the extension of 3 days and could assist in a 3-day extension and had to result in stalking my house, endangering my children and knocking my door down is outrageous! I think guidelines need to be set before someone is hurt over a 3-day late collection. Where are their boundaries and what length will they go to if someone is 10 days late?

I am writing to express my continuing dissatisfaction with the service and work ethic of the Rent-A-Center employees in Store No. 1885 located in Bronx, New York. I purchased two massaging recliners on July 23, 2011. The store only had one in stock but assured me they can order the second one from another store. I was quoted at cash price of $417.00. The delivery was done 2 weeks after. When the chairs were delivered, the recliners were different. One recliner was the massaging recliner that I ordered, and the other recliner was not a massaging one. I decided to keep both.

When the guys tried to plug in the massaging recliner, the plug would not fit. I was assured that the plug would be replaced in a few days and I would have a working recliner massager. A few weeks later, as I was speaking with Wayne at the RAC regarding the recliner plug, I told him that the recliners needed to be re-stuffed. Wayne had someone come out and look at the recliners, and the person explained to my husband that the stuffing needed to be ordered and it will take about 2 weeks for the order to come in and about another week to schedule the repair. That’s a total of 3 weeks. My husband agreed.

I paid the recliners in full on October 31, 2011. And to date, I have not received a plug for the massaging recliner nor has anyone come back to re-stuff both recliners. I do, however, receive a phone call every couple of weeks asking if I want to purchase any more merchandise. I am so disappointed with RAC. I paid a total of $939.84 for my furniture and have not been happy with the recliners or the service that RAC has given me. I have spoken with the manager, Wayne, numerous times; he guarantees that he is doing everything in his power to replace the recliners. But at this point, I would like for the RAC to return my money and take back the chairs. But I know that’s not going to happen. Sigh.

I have been renting from Rent-A-Center for quite awhile now. I have actually dealt with several different locations due to the way my boyfriend and I were treated. I have called other locations to ask them questions but to my surprise, they always manage to call the Rent-A-Center I rent from, saying I called them asking questions. Obviously, if I’m calling another location, it’s because I can’t get the correct answers from the location I rent from. I have had them come pick up their merchandise numerous times due to hardships because they absolutely refuse to work with us or cooperate. If we are a week or two late, they start calling constantly and calling my references. At one point, they actually refused to come pick up the merchandise for a whole month because they wanted a payment in order to pick it up, which I thought was absolutely absurd.

In their commercial, it clearly states that if you are having difficulty making payments, they will gladly come and pick up the merchandise. When I went to get my merchandise back, they made me sign a whole new contract. I wanted to know what happened to the original contract I signed. Then, they made me pay a week in advance and didn’t put any of the money I have paid, credited to the account. They said they have credited the account and it went towards the interest. No, I’m sorry, it should go toward the actual price of the furniture. I feel like I keep making payments and getting nowhere close to purchasing anything and I’m basically just giving them money.

I have tried contacting their customer service hotline and got nowhere with them. I have also gotten to a point at times where they call or show up at my place of residence, then they just take the merchandise and leave. Then when I call them and tell them I want all my money back from them, they tell me they can’t do that. So then, I’m forced to sign another contract from them. They seem to never have the same furniture set or anything I have rented when I go back and I have to keep picking out different merchandise with a new contract. This is why I feel they have not credited anything toward the account. They have on a couple of occasions entered my residence when my two small children have answered the door before I could get to the door. I’m tired of the games they play with us and not having any compassion with us during hardships. I have had to move a few times due to not being able to pay rent, because I had to pay them because of their harassment, which is not fair. They do not know how to satisfy their customers and their whole business is a joke. They know nothing about customer service at all in my opinion.

Don't fall for "it's only a little payment every week" or "no money down," **. if you pay, let's say $39.85 every week, you're probably going to finish paying your merchandise in 3 years or more! Remember every time you go make a payment, don't believe the numbers they put on your receipt. They always can change everything on the computer! And they're only going to tell you that, if you don't pay everything off in 3 months, the whole amount "doubles up" so if you purchase something that costs, let's say $2,998.35, after 3 months, they're going to call you and say, "Your new balance is $6.895.35!" I rented a washer, dryer, and chair when I moved to my home in October 2011 (may have been late September 2011). The washer and dryer I picked out were used, and the chair was brand new. When the washer and dryer arrived, they were not the ones I requested; the chair was. The chair was too big, and I asked if they had something smaller, and it was still supposed to be brand new (the one they brought wasn't), and it took them a month to get it to me. I still paid the payments on it even though I didn't have a chair. They said they couldn't get a new one, but they were still charging me the original price of the new one.

I told them just to bring the other chair back. I guess they had given it to someone else because the one they brought out was so dirty you could take a damp rag and black would come off the chair. They swore it was the original chair, but it wasn't even the same color (may have been under the dirt, but you couldn't tell). They took it back and were supposed to credit all I had paid on the washer and dryer. They only did part of it, and my payments should not have been due until mid-month. When they brought the original washer and dryer, it wasn't even the same model. They said they didn't know what happened. Finally, they found the model I was supposed to get, but it wasn't the used set but a new one. They told me that they would charge me the used price for them. They lied. The more I pay, the more I owe.

In May 2012, after I made a payment, I asked how much I owed and was told $800+ (only $200 less than what they told me in December 2011). It's November, and I asked what I owe, and it is nearly $700. They told me that only $98 goes towards the payment and that I was always late. They didn't adjust the due date when they transferred the money for the chair over. I told them that its balance should be lower because I had paid on the pair for five more months and that would be more than $450 towards the balance. They came back and said I really owe over $1,000 and that the cost was originally $2,000, the price of a new pair, not the used I had bought. They kept talking about the 90-day price, which I was way past and has nothing to do with my present balance.

I pay over the phone because the center is about 25 miles from where I live, and I wanted to use two different credit cards, but they said to do that, I would have to pay for three weeks and then a week, which would cost me more. They also said there is a new fee, which I was never notified about, of $1.50 to pay over the phone. I told them that it wasn't in my contract, and they said they could not take it off; it was automatic. I receive no bill or statement of my account; they just start calling on the first. My payment was originally scheduled for the fifth. Last month, they said it was due on the first; today, they said the third; and with the transfer of the chair, it should be later. I will never buy anything else from West Memphis Rent-A-Center. It is not the first time I have bought from a Rent-A-Center, but it is the first from this store. I keep paying, and what I owe keeps going up, not down.

I purchased a living room set last year - being that I had a few issues with credit I opted to use RAC Acceptance. I thoroughly read the entire contract, much to their surprise. I questioned items, which I did not understand. I was satisfied with the answers I received, so I agreed. What happened afterwards was an entirely different story. First, the contract presented to me for review was not the same contract they printed and gave me a copy of. I was told that the furniture needed to be insured, so I could either purchase their insurance or show proof that I had my own insurance. I provided a copy to them, so they said, "fine". Then I received a payment reminder that showed my payment amount plus an extra service charge for them "allowing" me to have my own insurance. I called to question and was told that's how it was and if I didn't like it, I could return the items - the items which I had not yet even received.

At this point I decided that as soon as I received my items I would be paying the entire balance, as my contract said I was free to do at any time, and not deal with these crooks. So, okay, furniture is received, I got to pay, and I am told that I cannot be able to pay any more than the monthly amount since this is a new contract, but that I can pay additional money the following month. Shady, but I had too much on my mind at the time, so okay.

Next month comes around, and I go to pay the balance, and am told that I still have another 60 days with no interest fees, so I can just pay a portion if I wanted - ok, read this in the contract too, so I pay 2 payments worth. Next month comes around. I go to pay the balance, again, some other inconsistent response. This time it was “No we are no longer accepting more than the regular payment amount.” Each time I have had contact with them after, no two stories were the same. I have been told different amounts for my balance, multiple phone calls to me and my references, as well as a mafia visit to my house. Yet in all of these, I have never received a bill, reminder or otherwise as I have requested.

I asked for an account printout so I could attempt to determine why my numbers did not add up to theirs - still nothing. When I finally did get someone to send me something, it showed multiple "sales tax" amounts adding on each month. I am no fool; sales tax here is 8.75% period, not a percentage each month. When I called them out on this, I could only laugh at the ridiculous explanations I have received. Unfortunately this was a very costly mistake in dealing with a company whom I did not research in advance.

Reading so many other complaints and experiences others have had infuriates me. These people should not be allowed to continue to conduct business through deceptive practices and deliberate lying to advance their own agenda. I have no problem paying a bill I owe, but I refuse to pay a bill that keeps changing each month with nothing in writing or an explanation to substantiate any additional charges. Furthermore, if my account questions had been answered correctly and honestly from day 1, I could have taken other action, instead of being forced to go along with terms I did not agree to. Sadly, I do not have any extra money for a lawsuit for their breach of the contract that I agreed to - it's the principle of the matter.

The poor quality couch in question cracked and lost a spring 2 days after we got it. They of course blamed it on my children and refused to do anything about it. Being that I am resourceful, we were able to repair the couch ourselves. I am ashamed to admit that their scare tactics apparently work. I am afraid if I stop paying, despite my bankruptcy proceedings, they will come to my job and embarrass me. Coming to my house is bad enough. How is it that my balance is $208, I pay $99, and then my balance next month is $273? Any good-hearted attorney wants to take this on for free? Seriously, all I really want at this point is to be left alone. I am tired of feeling like I am the victim of a shakedown, and I am utterly disgusted with what companies can get away with these days.

I was instructed by my assistant manager not to go outside and it is against the law for them to do that in a place of business. Not to mention, we had a customer in the store while they were trying to harass me.

My contract online says I have every two weeks agreement, but they harass me every week. Also while I was on bed rest because I had an open surgery, they were banging on my front door like they were about to break in. I thought they were going to kick the door in. Something should be done about these **. I believe I have a few weeks left on my agreements so I am going to pay them off asap. They need to have an option to do an early payoff online. The place never filed the paperwork and time lapsed on the filing. Anytime I ask while making my payments, no one knew anything and said I had to talk to Joey over and over. I let the loaner laptop go back after paying on it for a year because no one would help me or do anything except tell me I had to wait for Joey. I feel that I was cheated out of all the money I invested in the laptop. I paid all my other rentals off. No one wanted to replace the laptop and they did not even file the paperwork to the benefit plan I had been paying for.

I made a rent-to-own contract with them to purchase a TV. It was a flat screen and there was a clause that it would not be wall mounted. However I had a death of a good friend and was out of town during this time. My son who lives with me did not know about this clause and attempted to hang it on the wall. End result, it fell from the wall and was severely damaged and does not work. He contacted a friend of his who worked on TVs and thought he at least could fix it and took it over to him. The TV was so severely damaged that it was unrepairable and a hazard with broken glass, etc. The friend advised me of this and I told him to dispose of it since I had no way of doing so. I notified RAC of the disaster but RAC stated they wanted to "see" the damage.

I explained to them I did not have it but I would still pay for the TV since it was damaged. They told me that they had to have it back, then demanded that I come in and sign a new contract. I was unable to come in on the date specified due to working. I received a voice mail from them on my direct line at work that they were going to charge me with "theft". At that point I refused to have anymore contact due to that threat. They have continually been to my home, left notices for anyone to read in my mailbox, and called me 3 and 4 times a week at work. Today they did not call my direct line. They called the public number and talked to one of our CSRs. She contacted me and I instructed her to tell them I cannot accept collection calls at work. They then were sent to my voice mail where they did not leave a message. Can they do this? I work for the State of Oregon, and this is an embarrassment to me.

So, I said I would like to get it. I was wanting to use my $100 off coupon, which the manager was going to let me, but another store employee said I wasn’t able to even though it stated it could be used on any merchandise in the store. Then, I was told that I could add any merchandise from the local ad for $9.99. I stated that I would still like to pay off the TV in 3 months without the tablet I added for $9.99 interrupting that, and I was assured that it wouldn’t. Now, I am over $500 on payments, yet I still owe $700. I don’t understand why they lied to me and why I was given an attitude for being upset. I was kind and just wanted to know what was going on, and all I got in response was “Well, there’s nothing we can do.” I’m stuck paying the $700, which came out of nowhere.

My husband financed a bedroom through RAC (Rent-A-Center). The contract agreement had monthly payments and the total amount to be paid in full. There was no indication the furniture would be rented daily and we could purchase it later. When he asked whether he was renting the furniture, they flat out lied and said no. He was 3 weeks late paying and they sent 2 guys with a truck to our house. My husband was not home, so they left and came back the next day which was a Sunday. They were nasty, rude and began cursing at him to give them the furniture, or man up and pay, one even told him to suck his you know what. I was scared to death and refused to let my son outside for fear they would hurt him. I was also embarrassed that my neighbors would see people on my lawn yelling and threatening my husband over some damn furniture. What the hell kind of customer service is that?!

After what seemed like an hour, they left, telling him to watch his back. He later called and spoke with a supposedly manager who never apologized for their behavior. He stated that when you don't answer your phone, they send someone out to see if their furniture is abandoned. Now they call every day, beginning as early as 7:30am until 9:00pm. My husband asked for a contract in writing to complete the purchase because he never wanted to rent in the first place. Each representative gives him a different excuse on why they cannot do that. Recently they left a court order. We have decided to go to court and let the judge settle it.

Today, they called stating we could avoid court by offering a one-time payment of $1,300 today only to end the contract. We are currently out of town, so that was a joke. They refused to extend the offer till the end of the week and mentioned at court it would be more. They are liars, who rip-off customers, life threatening and obnoxious, they do not work with their customers nor are they very competent. I will gladly sign a petition against RAC and advise any and every one not to deal with RAC. They are a disgrace!

A mailer was sent out where you get $50 off your new agreement. After getting into a new agreement with RAC, the manager as well as customer service from the main office came back and said it's not for new items, only used items. Nowhere on this mailer stated that. They are trying to use that, in the fine print, it states to ask the manager for details which at that point, the manager will tell you that information. Well, I had the coupon in my hand and repeated not to forget to use this. Yes, I did sign. She pointed on the contract of where it was to show that. I didn't look carefully. It wasn't until I looked at the total cost of the TV that it wasn't right. I then told her she did not add that in and then she said, in one of those fake tones, how she forgot that it was for used items. She then told me in a whisper, "I will take one month off your total." I told her no. I wanted what was on the mailer.

After some time, she called the district manager. They all did not know what to say because I mentioned that it was false advertisement to which she did agree. She stated they sent those out to bring people in. Then at the main office, she stated that they do that to get those that have finished their contract to come in again. Saying that your company lies to get people to come in is crazy! And they want to say, ask the manager for details! Well, the manager can say anything they want to say. They can say you have to spend a certain amount, they can say, you have to come in on a certain day of the week. I'm sure you get where I'm coming from. This is something else I also forgot to mention. The manager tried to keep the coupon and throw it, but I told her I wanted it back which I still have. I've had many people look it over. They all agree with what I thought about the coupon. I will be contacting the BBB on this matter.

I began noticing the clothes were not clean. They were twisted to the point of being wrinkled even after dried. I complained and the store brought a temporary washer and took mine to repair. After a few of months of phone tag, miscommunication, I received a phone message from the manager saying the new washer was in and I could pick it up. I stopped by the store and the salesperson knew nothing about it and ended up selling me another washer, of which I had to start payments for all over again (at 50% interest I might add). This washer does the same thing. The dryer makes a loud humming and scraping noise.

I began receiving what they called "reminder" calls a day or two before my payment was due. I complained and that finally stopped. Last month, I was very ill and didn't get online to make my payment on time. Within a week, I received 10 phone calls and voice mails, 2 flyers left on my front gate and a letter in the mail. I sent the company an email with my complaint. A district manager left several messages on my cell, but I couldn't return his calls because I got off work after he did. Also, he traveled daily from store to store and the store managers never knew where he was. I left messages at the stores for him to call me but never received a response. This month, on my payment due date, I received 2 phone calls and a voice mail. I thought I had until 11:39pm on my due date to make my payment. I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy!

Yesterday, which was June 25th, 2012, I was home so I informed the people at Rent-A-Center that came by my house to get the merchandise that I was going to take care of the payment. And a young lady was in the truck and told me no, I can’t make a payment at all. I called up the store to let the manager know to tell his drivers to leave my property. The drivers kept hitting my window and my door hard and they came to my back pouch up the stairs and one of the steps broke.

Now, they left a notice on my car saying that I was stealing merchandise and that they were going to call the sheriff. And the young lady put a notice on my door and she wrote on the back of the notice saying: Next time I come, I’m coming with the sheriffs. So now, I was going to make a payment this week even though I was late with the payments because I haven’t been working a lot of hours. Now since the young lady left a notice writing at the back of the notice with a marker, I feel that she is threatening me with the sheriffs.

He then told my son as he was on his way out the door that I knew they were coming to pick up the dinette set. My son said he then called his co-worker, Shawn, and he came. My son told them he had to leave and they went in my house, anyway, and removed the set.

First, he is 16. Second, I never talked to Demetrius at all; and third, they went in while my son was leaving and left my back door open according to my next door neighbor. They broke my screen door also. When I called the store, the manager, Mike, said that he believed that it was a two-week payment due. Even if that was the case, to come in someone's home with a minor is not policy with RAC, so I thought. But to go in after my son left and to leave the door open about a one or two-week payment is wild. So what is the next step to this situation?

I am going to file a police report against Demetrius and Shawn. The officer said that is considered breaking and entering even with my son, being 16; they should have waited to speak to an adult or see an adult according to their store policy.

I rented a washer/dryer set in '94 for a year. They never sent a voucher. Do I have to call Troy **? "You have to get the voucher in the first year. We don't send replacements. We only send out one voucher. If you didn't receive it or you lost it, it's irreplaceable. We'll honor the agreement without the voucher but you have to wait until we get another washer/dryer set in here that is in the same condition as the set you returned." I said I returned it in undamaged and unmarked condition and asked how its condition upon return was recorded in my account. I was told it wasn't recorded, so he would presume the condition the set was returned in as a little worn and banged up. He said I had to wait until he got back a set like that and that's the only set I could apply my credit to. I was told it was too long ago and the records are gone, though I requested the credit several times before they claimed the records were gone.

What does lifetime mean? Troy says lifetime guarantee. I assure you, I am very much alive. I was told, "It's not our store. You can only obtain and use the credit at the same store as the original rental." Here I sit on my sofa, again waiting on a call from a district manager. Where's my voucher? I can buy an item in a Wal-Mart in New York, discover it is defective, board a plane bound for California. I can land in Monterey, San Francisco, or Oakland. I can then take that defective item and that receipt from that New York Wal-Mart, walk in, and receive a full refund. That is what worry-free and guarantee mean. And it's now oh so fashionable to despise Wal-Mart. I'll tell you what, I want my voucher.

I asked how much more my weekly payments would be. It was only ten dollars more, so not bad. A few weeks later, the volume was not working correctly on the television. They brought me a loaner while they worked on it. We liked the loaner better so we decided that we wanted to keep it. Mind you, we did not change the radio. We saw a different television we wanted so we changed it a few weeks later. Signed a new contract, got the different television, kept the same radio. I am not behind on my payments.

So after close to a year, I figure that with the asking price at the store for the radio being around 350 dollars it should be paid off. Well, when I asked when it be paid off, I was told I had another 46 weeks left of payments. When I asked why, when I never turned the radio in? I was told that even though I kept the radio, I had returned the television, so my contract started over. I was never told that they were on the same contracts so the payoff dates were the same. So if I were going to keep it, I would be paying well over one thousand dollars for a radio that with interest should only be five hundred dollars. So now I am going to take my business elsewhere and will take this very expensive lesson with me while leaving them the television and radio behind.

Rent-A-Center is continuously harassing me at my work. They come up to my job (after repeatedly requesting them not to), and yesterday, Chelsea came up here and was escorted off the grounds. I have asked them not to call me at work or come to my place of employment, but for some reason, they refuse. Isn't it against the law? Do I have any rights? I just got another call just 15 minutes ago. Someone please help. I called their customer service line, and the people there are just as rude. I reported this to the Better Business Bureau and also the SC Consumer Affairs. What else can I do? This woman calls me at least 6 times a day at my job. Isn't this harassment?

We are renting a living room set and a laptop from RAC. Well, the first thing they did to annoy me was by calling my references. But instead of calling to ask about credibility, they decided to throw a sales pitch at my mother in law who lives 2 states away. She was appalled and told them that she pays cash for everything she needs and informed them she would never rent there even if she had to.

When they delivered the sofa, it would not fit through the door at first. They eventually got it in, but tore the upholstery in 3 locations. I called about getting a separate piece to replace it since it is a sectional. I was told they could fill it in with a marker if I wanted, as at first we planned to buy. But since the damage is done, I would rather invest in furniture that is not damaged so it will last and the fabric will not begin peeling away prematurely. A marker filling in the white spots from torn fabric will only cover it. Not preserve the damage.

The laptop was sold to us new and the paper says it was new. However, there is a 1 inch scratch on the plasma screen on the side. When they first brought it, the charger they brought us was broken and the wires were showing through the cable. I noticed that the default text for user accounts were all in lower case. Usually, 99.9% of the time PC default text starts with uppercase letters. There were also a few programs on here that did not look to be native. Like programs for smile things that are usually spam or ad-aware, as well as most programs being installed 11-10-2010, which are current updates.

We received this laptop in February or so 2012 and have a statement that says it was brand new, example is the user category "book" was last edited on 5-12-11. If it was brand new, it would be "Books" or something to that effect. As "User Profile" was set up 5-5-11. That is hardly new to me. It may have been a display model. But, I don’t think a display model would count as "new" after a year of usage by random people. Random people who like to rename silly folders like "Books" to "book". Not that I care. I’d just like to be charged fairly for its usage.

We have been late with payment a few times and try to work it out with a minimum payment. As we planned bi-weekly, but some months we need to wait to pay the full month due to rent and the price of food and health issues. Apparently, that does not work with them because they call and call. I offered to pay the taxes on the 2 weeks because they always want some money. I was told they at least needed one week’s worth ($75.00) and that they can’t let us go that long without payment, yet they have monthly payment options. I made one money order to them that was 2 bucks short, which resulted in a late fee and more and more phone calls. They wanted us to drive 30 miles that day to make a 2 dollar payment, seriously. I would have no problem with a late fee.

These people are a joke. Their stuff is a joke. Prices are a joke. The phone calls are annoying and their inability to work with anyone is beyond me. The first week this happened, I had mailed in a mail order. It was lost in the mail and was eventually returned to me. They kept calling and calling and calling even after I explained the situation. Pay day comes around and I get a text from a New Jersey number (Non-local) and I reply back with a question mark. 2 minutes later, they were knocking at the door and the texter never responded which is quite weird since my number was 2 weeks old at that time. As if RAC was texting for some reason (That’s just my assumption. Not a fact).

This week we are dealing with the nonstop phone calls again, 2X daily. And it isn’t like we have not tried to work with them. I don’t understand what their issue is but I know I am not the only one in this situation with them.

As my first experience with them, I rented a laptop and took it back a week later. They called all the time trying to get me back in. I would not rent from this company. I plan to pay them off, return their things and go elsewhere as my friends and family all use a different rent to own company and have never had this issue. Most places will work with you if you have other things going on. As the economy is bad, wages are low and the price of living is high. Normal people understand that. RAC employees however, do not understand this.

I have been a long time Aaron’s customer. RAC had a special so I decided to try them. I rented a laptop. I've had it for three months and I have had 4 phone calls from RAC asking me when I would make my payment. Each time, I stated that it wasn't due yet and each time they were aware of that. Each time, I went in my payment was more than the time before and each time, I got a lot of fast talk as to why the payment amount continued to increase. I dealt with all of this because I planned on paying it off in 3 weeks.

The final straw was when I misunderstood the amount of the payment (since it every two weeks) and the money order that I put in the night drop was $3.85 short. Marcus, an employee at RAC, called me first thing that morning and told me to bring the laptop back. I told him I had just dropped off a payment on my way to work. He stated that it wasn't a full payment and I had to bring the laptop back immediately. He informed me that I was $3.85 short. I told him I would pay it when I made the next payment.

Long story short, he was extremely rude and wanted the money or the laptop that day and also said I needed to speak to him directly. I took the money to him and he was too much of a coward to come out of the office when he heard me asking for the person that called me. I have gone back to Aaron’s rent to own where I have spent thousands of dollars and most of the time had very good, professional service. Marcus cost RAC a customer that pays off every item I rent. Good riddance!

I rented a computer from RAC in October of 2011 and I only had it for 3 weeks and then I had to bring it in to get it repaired. They had it for a little over 3 months with constant excuses for it not being repaired. They had given me a computer to use while mine was being repaired and it didn't work nor did I use it while I had it. I get on average 3 phone calls a day from them. I am tired of them harassing me about my payments being late. I know that I have to make my payments but I'm having some financial difficulties at the moment. If they want to come and get the stuff, then by all means do, but quit with the calls. They have to realize that I am a single working mom with a child with a disability and I work from home and out of the home. This issue needs to be dealt with and make me happy. I also just found out that they are discussing me with people I sent there if I don't show up with my payment when I say that I will. That is very unprofessional. They should not be discussing anyone with other customers. Please deal with this and contact me with what has been decided.

Well as everybody knows, Rent-A-Center harasses them. Well, my payment is not due until the 15th of the month on my Acer A500 Tablet and in the last week, I have gotten over 15 phone calls stating that they will stop calling and harassing me when I come in and make a payment. What can I do about it and also, I'm being overcharged on the same item.

I rented a laptop after mine was basically stolen. The personnel at this RaC are rude and failed to explain all of their policies i.e. how to pay the bill, online or over-the-phone rather than having to rent a car and drive back to the office. They provided the wrong hours of operation and then a second time when I went to extend the rental agreement, the person over the phone did not call me back that day and now wants to charge me a late fee. This is absurd. These people are unprofessional and unaccountable for the terrible service I have been provided.

I am very happy with Rent-A-Center. A few years ago, I was coming out of the payday loan place and wandered into the Rent-A-Center that was next door. I got myself a PS3 and a big TV. The sales people were very helpful and I could never have afforded these luxuries without their services. I am on disability because I was kicked in the head by a horse when my sister and I were playing around in the barn one night. The checks don't go far but with Rent-A-Center, they do! I laughed when I am in a Wal-Mart and see somebody walk out after paying $300 for a PS3. I may not be the smartest guy around but I know when one number is bigger than another. My PS3 cost the same as it always has, 20 bucks.

About a year ago, I purchased a second hand washer from the Rent-A-Center in New Britain, CT. I did this because of failing health. It made it easier for me to live a halfway normal life. During the course of the year, the washer has been to the Rent-A-Center repair shop 4 times. This time makes 5, and it's for the same problem, a non spinning tub. When the machine broke, I gave a call to the manufacturer, Whirlpool. They advised me that Rent-A-Center was the first person I should have called, that for the first year, they are the ones that are supposed to take care of the washer. Let the fun begin. I just want to say, it's not the end of the year, but it's close.

Has anyone ever made one of those phone calls? By those I mean where you say you want to speak to the manager and "he can't come to the phone, but will call you back"? Let’s get serious, they don't call you back. I went to the store and caught up with the manager. He told me he had just got back. Unlike Maria, who had claimed he was with a client. He refused to fix the washer. He, basically, told me, “You do whatever you think you have to do." Then walked away, leaving me standing in the middle of the room. So, I spent $350 (something I don't usually have) for a washer that basically lasted a grand total of 1 year?

Being no help, I went to another store to get the district manager’s phone number. Things got ugly. I was asked to leave. Again, $350.00 for a washer that lasted one year? Love that customer service! I went home and tried to call the 800#. I was told they were told to ignore my calls. I just want to thank the people at the West Main St, New Britain, CT, and the East Main Street store, New Britain, CT for selling me garbage, treating a customer like dirt, not solving the problem presented, and leaving me with the problem of having to heavy lift laundry when I am not supposed to.

Some of the more popular questions I got handed included: (1) Didn't you realize you were signing for used merchandise? Your point? Even used, it should not be in the shop 4 times. And being in the shop 4 times should have given the washer more than 1 year of life. (2) What are you washing with it? You're kidding, right? I have been washing clothes since I was old enough to go to school. I know how to handle a washer. A smart ** answer would have been bricks and/or rocks. (3) We haven't had to come to your house in months. Again, your point? A machine’s usefulness should be gauged in years, not months. Unfortunately, I will call Whirlpool again on Monday and see if there is any way to fix this under warranty. If not, it goes to the curb, $350.00 down the drain, and a strangulated hernia on top of it all. But Rent-A-Center got their money, stealing it from a disabled person, making life 10x more difficult. I guess in their eyes, that's what matters.

After four years of being a loyal customer of Rent-A-Center I have felt that their customer’s needs are not a priority. In the last month I was being harassed 6-9 times a day with matters concerning a payment in which was not even past due. Nevertheless, I was also deceived in the original price presented to me. In satisfaction, I would like acknowledgement from Rent-A-Center regarding my complaint and actions made towards them.

Don't rent from RAC ever! I rented a gaming system thinking it would be a little cheaper. Not! You pay three times the amount and someone will scam you and tell you one thing and charge you another. They will not work with you, they work against you. Layaway if you can or just wait until you can find it somewhere cheaper. It's better.

I have gotten 10 calls a day from them, along with then calling everyone one the reference list multiple times a day. They called everyone more then five times a day. We did tell them we had a family emergency and we would be in to pay in the next couple of days. After talking to them on 2/16/12 at 9:35 am, I told them we would be in to pay today. They called my mother right afterwards. Then an hour later, they were at the front door. We told them we would be in that day. A couple of hours went by and we were on the way in to pay when they called me again. After calling everyone else again, we went in and they refused my payment and asked me to leave the store because I was very upset that they harassed me and my family members all day.

This is not the first time this has happened with them. Might I add this is not how you run a business and have a good name. I am very disgusted with this company at this point and will never again be doing business with them. And as for a reference, I will be telling everyone how much this company harasses their customers and not to do any business with you, guys. This is from the store on Ming ave. in Bakersfield, CA. I have been dealing with the sales member, Ruben.
