Worst customer service and business practice ever. We came in and bought a couch instead of renting and just paid it out right. When the guys showed up to deliver the couch one of the couches was broken. When I called back Thomas and Brian seemed to already know where it was broken and said they were sorry they would bring me the exact same one Monday and I would be the first delivery of the day.
Well it's Monday and nobody ever shows up. So I call and Brian tells me that they came out on Saturday instead and that they tried calling me. Odd I don't have any missed calls on mine or my husband's cell or any messages from Rent-A-Center. I said "What happened to Monday? I arranged my schedule to be here all day Monday?" He said, "Well we are busy and we can't come out now until Wednesday." I said "What? No this couch is broken. It has wood sticking out of the back of the couch which is a safety violation for my kids. I was told you would be here Monday not randomly on Saturday and now not until Wednesday. Is there any way you can come today like it was planned please?" Brian said "Let me call you right back and we will see what we can do"...
Yeah I never heard back and so I called and Chuck answered. Chuck said Brian and Thomas were on a delivery and that he would have one of them call me back when they got back... no call. They are scandalous and dodge phone calls when they do a dirty deal by delivering broken furniture. Small claims... here we come.

1013 N DuPont Hwy - This place has great stuff. The quality of the stuff is awesome too. But the customer service is horrible! The manager there is outright rude & disrespectful. She was very nasty when I had to interact with her over the phone! I will not give them my business anymore! I recommend going to a different location.

I needed my ice cube maker repaired so I called the local store. They sent out an employee to pick up my side by side and gave me a brand new loaner refrigerator (all scratched up). I watched the store employee force my side by side out my front door where he severely damaged my front door area and then let go of it and let it bounce down five concrete steps. At this point I called the manager of the store and complained about the employee and then end how my brand new appliance was being handled. I was given multiple excuses. I will be paying this side by side off and will no longer be doing business with them. I have also contacted my house insurance company over the damages and it looks like we will be prosecuting for vandalism damages. I will never do business with this screwed up company ever again.

I rented a new tablet. Used the 90 days same as cash option because at the end of the 90 days my item was almost paid for, so I paid the balance and on my way. I broke my tablet the best first week; they replaced the screen for me. It was a great experience. The negative reviews are because consumers didn't pay their obligation. If you do as your contract says, it's a pleasant experience. I couldn't make a payment on time a few times and as long as you call and stick with what you agree, it's fine. Pay your bills people and you will have no problem.

They were suppose to bring me a new TV. I told them no floor models, they brought me a floor model anyway. I have had to send it back 4 times to be fixed - it still does not work right. I ask for corporate and they give me an Ontario store number. You can never really talk to corporate.
Now they are saying I owe another 7 months worth of payments that would mean the TV cost almost 5,000. They say it's the tax ** on my receipts. There is tax every time so how can they say it's extra? I ask for a copy of all the payments I've made, they say they can't do that. WHY not? I made the payments, I should be able to see a record of them coz what amount I owe is different than theirs - they gave me a print out of what payments I still need to make. They are rude. They change the amount of your payment from month to month. They say you should have checked the TV when it was brought - I did and called too and was told "you get what you get." I wish I could get hold of corporate to inform them of how the employees are running the place. They all need to be fired.

We have had issues in the past, but this time is over the top. My bank card was stolen and my account emptied. I called as soon as I found out and explained that my payment would be late. I was told it was not a problem and to call as soon as it was straightened out. For the last 10 days I have received calls 3 times a day asking when the payment would be made, including calls to a work phone that my husband and I have both asked not be called. I received a note on my door yesterday and another very nasty phone call this morning. Not only was my money and information stolen but now I am being harassed and punished for something that is not our fault!

I set up automatic payments online. They took out the payment of 75$ twice. I called customer care and they told me that it would be refunded by the end of the day. They also told me I WAS NOT THE ONLY WHO CALLED AND REPORTED THIS ISSUES. They are closed on Sundays. So I checked my bank account and both of the payments went from pending to posted. I did NOT get my refund for the second charge of 75$, which was NOT AUTHORIZED. I called them Monday morning and they stated that they are still working on it and they do NOT have a turnaround time on when people will get their refund. I called my bank immediately after to file a dispute against the second charge. I worked overtime on this paycheck because my daughter's Birthday is on 8/14/2015 and I needed that money. I worked 60 hours in one week and for them to take 75$ and tell me they don't know when it will be refunded is ridiculous!

I bought a couch from Rent-A-Center. It was a used couch but looked nice. Paid for it outright. Couch was delivered and my sons loved the reclining seat. 2 days later while watching a movie on our new couch I could smell urine. I thought I was going crazy but reclined couch to further investigate. Indeed couch reeked of urine. I went back and spoke to manager thinking I was "informing" him that the couch smelled like urine. He replied "I cleaned it twice". I said so you knowingly sold a urine stained couch?? He offered to give me a discount on another couch but I decided to get a bunk bed for my son.
Bunk bed was delivered and set up but they put the drawers up against the wall. I turned bed around so we could use drawers to find drawers had no knobs. It took me 4 months to get knobs and the wood slats fall from top buck constantly. Tired of putting them back in place I lifted mattress to find slats were not fully extended before they were screwed them down so the bunching is why they continue to fall. My experience was a nightmare and is ultimately going to land us in small claims court. Beyond Frustrated.

I used Rent-A-Center in Round Lake Illinois and when I first walked in the door the employees were very nice and friendly. Billy our salesman was very kind and sold us on a refrigerator with a huge discount because it had been rented out 244 days. He also had us sign up for benefits plus because this way if I lost my job It would cover the rent until I found something new. They delivered my item and about a week later it stopped working. They came and picked up the item and scratched my wood floor and damaged a tile in my entrance way and said, "Oh I'm sorry." Two weeks later my item was ready and they dropped it off.
The next day the item stopped working again. I was very upset and went into the store and asked for some free time and the manager Mark said he was going to cancel my contract because I demanded free time. The item was picked up and then dropped off two weeks later working much better. Billy gave me two weeks free because the item was in service more than it was in my home. I then got a washer and dryer from him as he is a great guy and I like doing business with him.
Last month I lost my job and ended up in the hospital. My partner and room advised them of this and wanted to come in a make sure I wasn't home. Rent-A-Center employees started arriving daily knocking on the door and windows of my home and told my partner they were going to show up with the police. My partner calls Rent-A-Center and spoke with Mark. At this time we were about a month behind and said I will come in a make a 100.00 payment and asked for some time to pay off the balance. Mark laughed at him and said, "Even if you paid the item in full I wouldn't take it. I'm canceling your contract." My partner now very upset said, "I would like documentation saying you will not take my 100.00 payment." He said no. This Rent-A-Center is a joke I have called the customer service number and I am waiting on a call back. They are rude and scam the customers. Go to a different store.

Then the company stopped by my work twice and started calling my employers personal cell phone to get a hold of me. This went on for 2 weeks before they FINALLY stopped by my house. I owed about 4g for everything and I paid upwards of 2g on everything and now I have no way to get it back according to the people who picked the items up. When I got behind in my payments I was told that it's nothing they could do to help me in my situation. I paid extra for this benefit just because I know things happen. These people are now banging on my door more than three times a day harassing my 4 young children whom are all under the age of 12. They are telling my neighbors, and all my references negative things about me, and at this point I'm refusing to talk to them. Does anyone know how I can reach the corporate office? We've done business with Rent-A-Center for years, particularly the one that's now off hwy 29 by Walmart. About 2 or so years ago we rented a 60 inch tv, a tv cabinet that had a heater built in that looked like a fireplace (gorgeous), and a bluray player/surround sound system. We paid on it for 2 years and we were about $300 shy from paying it off. Towards the end of that contract we got an ipad that was $250 90 days same as cash. Our daughter had been wanting one forever, so we started a separate agreement on it, planning on paying it off within 90 days. This was part of her Christmas presents. It gave me trouble from day 1 and every time I talked to the manager, Pat, he'd put me off instead of sending it in to be repaired. He'd tell me to do this or that to fix it and of course those things never worked.
At Christmas my husband's company takes off for a week with no pay. We knew money was going to get tighter so we called them to pick it up with the intention of coming in when we got our taxes to pay it all off. We had 60 days to do this. When they came to pick it all up, I asked them to please take the ipad and send it off for repair. I made sure to explain that I wasn't turning it in to be held with the other things. Close to 2 months later we come in to pay everything off and we waited for a while, but they had misplaced the ipad!!! So we understand things happen and asked if they needed us to come back in a few days, give them time to get it all together and they said "yes, that would help out a good bit." So we did.
We come back for the second time to pay it off and this newer guy says "Oh, I'm sorry, yesterday was the deadline to get your stuff. You lost it." Of course, I saw red!! So it was what it was, arguing wouldn't help. So he says he has the ipad and we could have that back for roughly $500.00. I told him I was only getting it with the intention of paying it off at $250.00. He said "that was only if you paid it off in 90 days." Well, we only had it in our possession for about 30 days!!! Not our fault it was in the shop for repair for 2 months!!! Then, ONLY because it was my daughter's Christmas present, I told him I'd take it back and check it out and talk with Pat about the price. It was then that he told me I could ONLY get it back if I paid $500.00. The thing hasn't even worked the majority of the time!!! Even at $250.00, I still would have wanted to check it out first!!!
Not to mention it wasn't ever turned in to place on hold, so why am I only being given the option to buy it outright at a price double what I intended to pay for it.I had no idea what to do. I remembered in the past, if you turned something in or lost it they'd send a voucher to get it back with a new agreement and some of what you paid would be applied to it. I was under the impression they applied all of it, as were others I spoke with, but that's not the case. Still, we have 2 kids and after struggling the last part of those 2+ years, we finally had the money to pay it off and that happened, so we have no tv, no tv stand/cabinet, no bluray player/surround sound and no ipad which upset my daughter terribly.
I talked to Pat and as much as I didn't want to continue doing business with them, we needed a tv and I wanted the chance to get back at least SOME of what I paid, so I called and asked him why we never received a voucher like usual. He didn't have an answer but said to come in when I could and he'd get something together at a fair price. My husband lost his job so we had to wait, but as soon as he got another we went back in to get a tv. Pat wasn't there so I called when I got home and was told that because I had history of late payments, they couldn't rent to me anymore. Ok, they have a history of screwing over their customers, but that doesn't seem to stop them!! But I'm not buying that excuse. We did come across hard times and I explained to them that I would turn it in but we had paid SOOOO much already!!! Enough to buy several tv's!!! They said they understood.
The place is called RENT-A-CENTER!!! They market and cater to people with poor credit!! They charge 4 times what something is worth cause they know they've got us since our credit is bad. Credit is usually bad for late payments!! Plus, I may have been late, but I paid that late fee EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! They made a KILLING off of us!!! So for the manager of the store to say HIS boss said not to rent to us is ridiculous!!! And he just told me a couple weeks ago we were fine!!!I just think it's terrible to do your customers like that! Nobody EVER apologized, nobody EVER answered me about the ipad or let us get it back and that's not honoring our contract! I really need to call corporate or someone who can help! We are doing the best we can. We aren't bad people and we don't have the money it would take to outright buy it all.

He said that was ok.
Then I called because I couldn't make my payment online and ** was rude accusing me of not wanting to pay my furniture. By that time I was irate because first of all I pay for this service that is offer by you and second this is no courtesy I pay for the service. He said he would have ** call me because I didn't want to assume my responsibility. Who in the world does he then know he is to talk to me that way. I went in to purchase a TV from Rent-A-Center Redwood City. The manager talked me into buying 2 TV's on a rent-to-own special ad where I would pay the same as cash for 90 days with no interest. I was not happy with the smaller 32 inch TV, so after making the second payment, I returned it but kept the larger 50 inch TV. I expected that I would lose the money that I paid for the 32 inch TV, but would maintain the money paid for the large TV and that I would continue to pay until it was paid in full within 90 days. When I returned the small TV, she closed out the entire contract and I was forced into starting all over with a new contract for the 50 inch TV only. So I lost all the money I paid for the two months with was about $256.00.
The new contract payment was now $118.00 per month, which was almost the same amount I was paying for the 2 TV's before. I had to start the 90 days all over and I started paying the $118.00 per month. This is almost 5 months ago and now I went into the store to pay off the total balance due and she tells me that she closed out my contract by mistake and she started it all over again for another 90 days. The whole thing was messy and seemed underhanded.
On June 16, 2015 I went into the store to pay the balance in full, and she tells me I am late and I now have to pay an additional $209.00 in interest along with the $167.00 for a total of $376.00. I could understand interest for a 2-week period, but she is charging me interest in for about 7 months. The whole transaction was so confusing. I knew I would pay a premium price for the TV, but I did not imagine the amount of interest she is asking me to pay. I am refusing to pay this amount. I am happy to pay $35.00 more in interest for the two-week period, but I refuse to pay any more than that. So I will take the matter to small claims court.

He took one look at my face and told me the bites I had was not spider bites that he believed they where bed bug bites!
He came out to my house to do an inspection. He finds an infestation in not only the mattress my boyfriend had bought and was told they always treat any used items that come into their store but in my daughter's room who's butted up next to ours!! Obviously this was Not the case. We paid $200 to infest not only our room but our daughter's room! My daughter has an auto immune system disorder and this is very dangerous to her system!!! We contact the manager at our local RAC and was told they would file a claim and would hear back from their adjuster to discuss this issue!
My boyfriend called back today after not hearing anything from them to be told they wasn't able to file a claim due to not being able to contact somebody in the claims dept! So we contact the corporate office and was told that once the claim is file it would take 48 hours for the adjuster to contact us then another 48 hours for another pest control place to reinspect and then possibly another day to come back in!
Totaling 4/5 days at minimum with 30 plus bites all over my body, several on my boyfriend's body, and now my daughter wakes up with a couple bites along her waist line!!! We are considering staying in a hotel but honestly don't have the money to stay plus replace our items that are infected let alone the cost to treat out entire home to rid the horrible little blood suckers!!! According to RAC we should go stay with family or friends - maybe a motel they say!!! Not thinking about infesting someone else's home due to their negligence!!! Begging for a resolution!!!

He told me again he would get me a phone. Still no phone by Feb 2015. Finally called same manager again and was told he had no idea I was having phone problems. So I called different RAC store and told them what was going on. They called their district manager and I had a brand new phone within hours!!! The WiFi stopped working on brand new phone within days of getting it!!!
I contacted HTC themselves, they offered me a couple options ranging from paying 50 dollars for brand new phone to me sending phone in my phone for repair and being without a phone for a few weeks (not an option). Meanwhile, I am still having to pay to meet 90 day obligation. Decided I would tell RAC and see what they would do considering I only had like a week left on 90 days. They told me to take phone in for repairs. Took phone in and was given loaner phone. Loaner phone is the phone that I had originally that was defective. I know this from imei#. Rent a center is a joke! They will do whatever it takes to get you to buy their merchandise... For instance, tell me I can make my weekly payments online due to being without a vehicle at the time, I had no trusted way to make sure payments got there weekly. BUT after 2 1/2 months OF TRYING TO RENT AND MAKING MY WEEKLY PAYMENTS ONLINE I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO MAKE A PAYMENT ONLINE FOR THEM. I would like to mention, I'm a college graduate (I'm not slow)! Also, I make all of my other payments online... it's not me! Their online payment option is a joke! All you get done doing is making circles throughout the site! This means I am not able to make my payments weekly. I make payments as I have a ride to get to the store.
I am 3 weeks behind, which I have been before, but now that they have gotten half the money for the merchandise they want it returned. NO WAY! Why not switch me to monthly payments instead?!? I'm so sick of them at my door everyday but as many times a day as they can. Why don't they put that effort into their customer service? I know why! Because they wouldn't be able to make double the money from renting the item to several different people. Beginning at square one, they miss one payment, they harass the ** out of the person until they say just take the ** back. Well it isn't happening here. They know my situation and know that when I do come in with a payment it will be paid up to date, plus I make late fees. Now they say I'm too far behind to rent? They will not treat me like this!
After I put them through as much hell as they put me through, I WILL NEVER LOOK AT THAT COMPANY AGAIN! I should have done my homework about this joke business before I made an impulse purchase! PLEASE PEOPLE SAVE YOURSELF MONEY AND HEADACHES AND JUST STAY FAR AWAY FROM RENT A CENTER! This is just one situation they will put you in. They are very sweet and care about you until you buy the item and made about 1/2 the price of the merchandise then they'll want it back so they can do the same thing to someone else.

I purchased two bedroom sets for a total of $1500 with RAC. I've been paying on this furniture since June of 2013. I've paid $3000 so far and owe $3000??? Ridiculous. My issue is that now that they have a new repossession center. They will show up to your house for payment or pick up the furniture after one day after the due date?? Really? I've been paying this long so what makes them think I'm going to give up my furniture after I've well over paid for it!
Honestly I think it's all a scam because after the payments are in "reality" complete less the balloon interest amount, then they'll pick up your furniture and put it back in the store to sell "same as cash" and "as is". This company really needs to be stopped. I just don't know the first step to take. Being that there are so many complaints on here. There is the first step to prove this company must be stopped.

How does a company expect me to pay for a burned up TV?
I've seen these tactics before and it's a close call to "gangster style". It's almost as I'm being extorted by Rent A Center for $129.75. NO 1 from Rent A Center even asked if I was okay, just "pay your TV". No “Sorry about your fire?” No “Is everyone ok?” No nothing, just "When are you paying your TV off.” Sad that this can happen in America. I am requesting that you look into this unjustifiable and inappropriate matter that one of your Rent-A-Center local store employees violated without my consent and was not aware of account activation until I read my email and was floored by the due date billing statement. To my unexpected surprise, I had to make sure I read the payment notification correct and to my amazement, it was. I clearly did not notify Rent-A-Center in writing, by phone or in person to make any rental or payout purchases in my account name. Item or items rented were a cell phone and or a flat screen tv.
At one point my account payment was overdue and was in shock at that point. So I contacted the District Manager named ** from the Odessa area about the incident. At that point, ** indicated that she would look into the matter and that she would make the proper adjustments once she found some answers. It was disclosed that 3 current employees were involved in this account violation matter and I was in shock to find out one was an active Manager. In the past, I have made rental purchases and had a good rental history. This has caused great heartache and stress not knowing about unknown charges or account standings. Therefore I will arrange to seek legal advice to proceed with legal action to clear my credentials and my affiliation with Rent-A-Center.

I made her dare that the sales rep that sold me the table was to get me anther NEW table due to the table being cracked bringing it into my home so Mr. ** called another co to check and see if they had another NEW table. Then he went into my account and stated that he was not able to provide me with a NEW table because I received a used table. As the guys brought it in they bounced the screen door against the dresser putting nicks down the front of it. They didn't say anything to me. Then when they told me they was finished my mom went to inspect it. They said they would replace the dresser so they leave and we start to put the sheet on my bed and the headboard was rocking back and forth so as we get to looking at it they put the bolts on backwards and stripped which dug into my dry wall making a mess of my wall. So my dad starts trying to fix it and notices the leg of the headboard was broke. We call the store in mt. sterling where we bought it from and she tells me they don't have another suite like this one. That I can pick another new one. So that's what we did and they sent different guys and was bringing it in the box so no scratches will get on it.
When they start bringing it in they dropped the nightstand and bust it and now I have to wait on a new one then tell me they don't have time to put the knobs on the dresser and didn't put the support beam on the headboard and didn't even use the right bolts to put it together. Also stripped 2 of the 4 bolts on the head board! Also every time they come in or out they left our screen door open which the wind caught and bent the frame. I will never rent from RAC ever again. Especially the Camp Springs, Maryland location. But after reading comments, I'll stay far away from any other location too. First off, I moved into my new place in November and decided to rent a bedroom set with a TV. Payments were being made on time, yet even if I was a day or so late, they would call from every single line in the office, then resort to harassing me by calling from their personal cells. Not professional at all.
I have been dealing with so much at home that sometimes I wouldn't even make a payment. One particular time, beginning of January I called to see if I could make a partial payment cuz I fell short, thinking that they would understand. Which wasn't the case. This particular guy, Kirk, told me that I needed to pay them the full amount. I agreed, only go get them off my back. A week goes by... I wanted to gather up all the money I could. By this time they're sending folks to my house. I don't play that. Another week go by, and they've resorted to having people call my job. Which is embarrassing because it makes it seems like I have ridiculous stalkers looking for me.
Now, they've resorted to sending people to my job looking for me. Now that right there is unacceptable because nine times out of ten your employer could get extremely pissed and terminate you, which in my case they did. I called this dumb guy Kirk and told him, mentioned to him that they could come and pick everything up. No response. So I am at work, last day... Same day I talked to Kirk he ends up sending one of his flunkies to my job looking for me and he hands me a folded up note. I read it and it's basically a note saying they will take legal action and serve me at my job. So two weeks later I came to make my payment and I had informed them that my seasonal job had ended. Marcus proceeds to tell me that I had to be with them for 90 days before I could even use this benefit package. I had indeed applied for unemployment benefits and was approved, however they never documented me telling them this. So they proceeded to harass my contacts and come to my grandmother's house which is my address, I just was not there because she kicked me out. They discussed my full account details with her and that was nowhere in my agreement.
They proceeded to threaten to file a warrant for my arrest, which I already knew could not happen. So being that I have friends that provide legal services, I saved every voice mail and was happy to know that I would be seeing them in court. The document that I sent them actually was what caused them to take me to court. The funny thing is even though the judge ruled that I would either give back the phone or pay the price of 746.00 not 1336.00, ha ha. This lady was really mad that she didn't get her full price she wanted. My adult Son has been renting items from Rent A Center off and on for years. Presently, he is a customer and is renting furniture and a large TV from them. His payments are $75.00 per week! That is $300 per month! THAT'S JUST CRAZY!! He is now off of work because he has serious damage to his rotator cuff (shoulder) and is scheduled for surgery. I've been trying to help him out as much as possible, but my funds are also limited. Last week I offered to pay, and did pay the $75.00 due to give him a break so he would not loose his furniture and tv while he is down and waiting for his work to send him a check.
At the time, I thought the $75.00 was a monthly payment, not a weekly payment! When he told me yesterday that he had a payment due, and that they kept calling him all day for the payment, I said "but I just made that payment for you." He said, "that was for the week, not the month Mom," I nearly fainted! What kind of company has the right to be THAT greedy?! I was upset with and for him also needless to say, Very poor judgment on his part. I told him, for that kind of $$ you could furnish your entire house with value city furniture, or anywhere else, or just buy what you needed on credit, and have a reasonable monthly payment.
I advised him to send the items back, and just replace when he is able, but not with Rent A Center!! Needless to say, they are bottom feeders that take full advantage of those who may have poor credit. WHY else would anyone deal with them and their rip-off tactics?! $75 a week? $300 a month? That's a damn car payment!!! I would sit on crates, bean bag chairs, sleep on the floor, or make my own make shift furniture, and watch an old tv before I'd even consider getting into such a scam and potential headache!
Listen to me fine people... STOP the insanity OF DEALING WITH THESE KINDS OF GIMMICKS!! For the kind of money your putting out, you could save that much easily, and pay cash for your wants and needs. Go to Big Lots or anywhere else. Buy a futon and cress it up with throw pillows. Make a sofa out of a twin bed, and put a nice decorative cover on it and some throw pillows. Just NEVER buy used mattresses, as they could have bed bugs! Buy used end tables, & a used tv, or whatever! Lawn furniture, anything for now.
Be creative, by realizing that the money you are wasting is YOUR money! If you cannot afford it, then you will NOT be able to keep up with these CRAZY out of line ridiculous jacked up payments! It is NO WONDER THIS COMPANY IS STILL THRIVING for so many years! They make money hand over fist off of desperate people, but you do NOT need to be one of their victims! Good luck and God Bless you all. SOMEBODY'S -MOM-

The associate that was on the phone named Jessi, started yelling that she was coming to pick up the bed if i did not come in. She didn't offer or suggest any other options. When I said I would be in the following week she said "I will be at your house every day until we get it." I hung up, it was poor customer service. She called back repeatedly three times after that. At this point, I would not recommend Rent A Center to anyone if that's how they treat their customers. Mind you, I was at work whenever she called.

I took part in the Black Friday experience, I paid $30.00 down on a living room set. It seemed to be that when we set up a time for delivery, it never worked for me or Rent-A-Center. Then last week I was told that I would not get any part of the Black Friday promotion and that my furniture would now cost me 5.00 more a week. I think that if nothing else, I should have gotten my original $30.00 back, since I never had possession of the furniture. I also have been a long time customer with Rent-A-Center and this has really burned me. As soon as my V is paid off I am done with them and will not recommend them to anyone else again. I am going to look at Aaron's to see what kind of a deal they have and if they stand behind it or not. I also sent a complaint last Friday but never heard back from anyone. This is the second time I have been burned on furniture with you, 5 years I bought a couch and recliner that were supposed to match per Curtis, and when they delivered it they said oh guess what they don't. Thank you.

I purchased a bunk bed set for my kids. When they set it up they didn't even put the screws that holds the slats down. So that night my kids fell thru the top bunk 3 times, then we had to put our own screws in it. The guy who delivered it told us that it would explode like a bomb. Guess we figured that out the hard way. The side of the bed was cracked...it only lasted 2 months...then I have insurance on the bed. They didn't have the part to fix it after they told me they did. So I had to get a whole new bed. Then they forgot the mattresses at the store. 2 days later we got those, which jacked my price up over 1,000.00. For a bunk bed? RAC is a joke.

Now what makes me very upset and yes I'm at some fault for not calling back is the fact that they are harassing my elderly mother with my account and now she is horrified because they are threatening me with court. If you owe a week or two, I'll help you out, but return the laptop. He was all set to return it and at about 9:15 pm one night, there was this horrific pounding and screaming at my front door. Looked out the window, only to see a RAC truck in my driveway. Well, I thought, that's ok, the boy didn't return the laptop and they sent some ignorant ** to pick it up. I told him to go get it, as they were here for it.
So he goes to get everything, and I open the door, only to be met by some moron dead-set with barging into my house. Not happening! In November I rented a phone from Rent A Center. It was a nice phone and everything was going well with my payments. I had no issues until... The beginning of December I was at a party at a friend's house and someone stole the phone out my purse while I went to the bathroom. I didn't notice until later on in the evening when I was on my way home. So I did like everyone else would and call the phone, of course nobody answered. So I called the police and made a report with them. I then called Rent A Center and they said that I still have to pay for it and it's not their problem that I was careless with the device. I wasn't careless but I also didn't think it was supposed to be attached to my hip either. Now they have been calling everyday asking me to come in the store so they can track it because they need my permission to do so. How do they need my permission to do that? I don't own the device.
I refuse to pay for something I don't have. Don't they have insurance for these things. I have tried to trace it myself. I have even paid for services to help and it says that the device is offline. So if I can't trace it, how can they? They are full of crap! They are mean and rude! I have never dealt with anything like this and I will never again deal with it. Oh and they also told my mother that I am going to jail if I don't pay it. I am ready to sue them for harassment at this point. The man called my friends and family and told them how horrible I am and that I will be going to jail. Scared the crap out of my family. It's very ridiculous how they speak to people. On several occasions my husband asked about applying the money in the suspense account towards the principal and was told that our contract does not allow us to do this. I also spoke with David on 8/7/14 and was told that they cannot apply this to my principal. My husband was told this several times, the last time was 2 weeks ago. Today I called to make our payment and inquired on this again, as it did not make sense to me that we cannot apply extra money towards our principal payment. We have 6 kids and if a washer wasn't mandatory, I would have never purchased this from them anyways. I was informed by Victor today that we CAN do this, all we have to do is ask.
As you can imagine I was extremely upset as I have now paid $584.61 and still owe $180.03 for an item that was not nearly worth this price. I understand that when payments are made, that yes money will be applied to the interest and can be drawn out over long periods of time, but when we directly inquire on paying more and ask them to apply all the money to the principal and they say that it is not possible just to draw out the payments and drain money that I do not have from my pocket.
This is an unacceptable way to do business and an outrage. We were both completely lied to and misled in regards to our suspense account and payments to principal. I have already filed a complaint with the customer service on their website. The physical address of this particular Rent A Center is 641 Sweetwater Rd. Spring Valley, CA. 91977. I do not have a copy of my order number or receipt on me, but can absolutely provide one if requested. I am hoping that their calls are recorded as well. I hope someone can do something about this as if they have done this to me, I can imagine how many other people they have lied to and ripped off. As of now, nothing has been done. I will complain until something is through as I work extremely hard for my money and do not have any to waste. I began doing business with Rent-a-Center in March 2013 when I needed a washing machine and wasn't certain about exactly what I wanted in a machine. I was immediately sold on a machine with all the bells and whistles when the sales rep said it would save me on water. To make a long story short, things seemed fine during the first few months but if I was just one day late, they would begin with their annoying phone calls. Not just to me but all my references!! If that wasn't enough, they would literally try their hardest to talk me into renting things I didn't even need, such as a television, phone, furniture, etc.
I was able to put an end to their ridiculous phone calls in Dec 2013 by making a complaint to the regional mgr. By August 2013, I was so fed up with Rent-a-Center. I had gone into the store one Wed and told the sales rep I would return on Fri to make a payment which was delayed because my bank had to send a new card to me. Instead of simply waiting for me to come in that Friday, the same employee dared to phone and ask what time I'd be in!! After taking care of bills, I finally made it in that Friday evening ready to make a payment and offered a smaller amount since I still needed to buy groceries for my children and he refused to accept the payment! If that wasn't enough, he sent an employee to my house later that same evening!! I responded by phoning corporate office the following day.
When the rep returned to my house days later, I told him to go ahead and take the machine because I was not ready to buy the same model from a regular retail store so I wouldn't have to be bothered by Rent-a-center and their annoying calls. He acted as though he didn't want to take the machine back and said "But you don't have many more payments on it before complete ownership." I really didn't want the machine because I hate white appliances and prefer chrome or even stainless steel. My husband felt it would be better to stick with the machine since there weren't many more payments left so that's what we did until tonight.
They weren't willing to negotiate by accepting a payment of $40 today or tomorrow and another $40 on Friday so I told them to take the ** machine. The rep dared to say that they'd hold it and I could pick up where I left off when I have the rest of the money, but this time I told them that I don't want it back and I'm done with them!!! Sure, it's the holidays but I'd so much rather bust my tail just to afford the color and model I want than to ever be bothered by pesky employees of Rent-a-Center. These people really lack common sense. When they phoned a friend of mine one day, she let them know that she hadn't seen nor heard from me yet, they phoned her again the very next day still asking her. If she hadn't seen nor heard from me in months on a Thu, its not like I'd suddenly appear out of thin air the next day especially when she's in another state!
With only 28 more payments left, they should have enough common sense to know that I wasn't leaving the state with the machine. Over $1,000 has been put into that machine so after a year, I should have owned it anyway but since the employees of Rent-a-Center are so incompetent, greedy (yes, they admit that they like to get as much money as possible out of people) and annoying, I thank God I have credit so I can simply buy a brand new washing machine from a regular retail store and never be bothered with Rent-a-center ever again! The machine I was renting was brand new and sold for retail at $1,000 but Rent-a-Center made it an extra $400-$600 plus their additional late fees!

At the end of June of this year we started the rental on a sectional. It was great. I had been assured by the Associate who claimed he was the Store Manager that the sectional, which was housed in a back shed/warehouse area, uncovered, would be cleaned prior to delivery and that my old couch would be removed and disposed of. This was on a Monday or Tuesday. On delivery day, that Saturday, the sectional was delivered. The delivery guys said it had NOT been cleaned when I asked. The sectional was dirty/dusty. Soon after, the whole family began to get bites. Because it was summer, I thought it was mosquitoes. We treated for such but it became worse. A friend had mentioned bed bugs because it was RAC. I contacted store and was assured several times that it couldn't be bed bugs and they even said it had to be mosquitoes.
Now come the fall and the bites are worse and have spread throughout the house. Now RAC says after it has been confirmed that the sectional is infested, has been infested for longer than the amount of time we've had it (it sat in the warehouse area from January to end of June this year) that they will do nothing at all. They will not replace or refund or allow a return because it could infest their store. They refuse to pay for any treatments, and they flatly refuse to do anything at all, trying to claim that even though it all started after the sectional was delivered and it is proven to be the culprit that it isn't their fault and it just happened RIGHT after it was delivered and is therefore our fault. Rude service by the General Manager at the local store, claimed to have taken a class on bed bugs and yet could not correctly answer any questions regarding them.

This started November 2013. I have had multiple accounts which I tend to pay off in the 90 day period if I can. I was called by the clerk at our local rent-a-center about a black Friday special which I could use my $100 coupon (an incentive given out when you close an account). I had no accounts open that I could remember. The clerk said I had to get the TV that day otherwise the price would be 600. It was a small smart TV, something I mentioned I would probably be looking for. My friend also said he was interested in one.
I don't remember if I opened this account by phone or in person. It was agreed that I would get 2 TVs, one of which would be transferred into my friend’s name once he came in. I typically paid by phone and also paid more than the rental price because I try to pay off the items in the 90 day period. After a few months I asked about my pay off date and was informed I missed the 90 day pay off. I was bummed but decided to make payments with the goal of paying off by the summer, before I went on vacation. In July I asked what my pay off amount was. I was told it was roughly around $200-150. I made payments so that the first week of august I could close the account with a small payment between $50-40.
I NEVER missed payment dates, and always paid ahead. First week of august came and I attempted to make a last account closing payment.... and was told it was still almost $200. When I told the clerk that I paid it down so I could have the last payment be about $40, he said he would find out what went wrong and get back to me. Weeks later they began calling and said the pay off was $180 otherwise I was to return the TV. The TV value was $400 for the 90 day price and $600 after 90 days.
Between September and October they began calling 2-3 times a day. I always said the same thing, find out what went wrong because I am not throwing good money after bad. Finally a clerk knocked on my door. When I opened the door the clerk Carol said she was taking the TV. She said "You can't keep things you haven't paid for, I'm not leaving without the tv!" I told her to leave and that I was calling her district manager, I tried to shut the door but she pushed it open, trapping me between the door and stairs. Once she realized it was hurting me she stopped trying to force it open.
I called Karl (I was told he was in charge of this store). I told him what happened. I explained to him I make my payments and always try to pay more in order to pay off an item. He agreed that I have paid many accounts off and make larger payments than the minimum. I explained to him what happened and that at this point I've paid nearly $1000 for a stupid small tv. We agreed that if I could prove close to the amount I told him he would personally close the account.
I copied my payment history to be faxed to him. When I came into the store the manager said it wasn't enough. He wanted my bank statements. I told him I wasn't giving him my bank statements with my personal info, I proved that between March and august alone I had paid $500 and I've been paying since November. He began raising his voice, he said "we haven't gotten a ** payment since august!!! Who do you think you are?! The TV doesn't belong to you". We got into words, he showed me how I paid insurance (I had asked before to never give me insurance), how fees had absorbed payments and how they had placed my payments to my friends account. The entire time I was paying for this TV and I never knew it was being absorbed one way and another to an account that wasn't mine or insurance... or fees. They said I had actually only paid $200 of principal amount of $600.
Sometime around this point they contacted my father demanding payments and threatened that if the tv was not returned they would have me arrested. I am self employed and have sub contracted to employers since January 2014. My father said something to that effect and that he didn't know I was having financial problems. I was upset after my father called me hysterical thinking I was going to jail for grand theft and questioned how I was working and couldn't afford $180.
When the store called about 6pm I answered. I told the clerk I was rushing today and wasn't even in town yet, that I wouldn't have time before 7 pm (closing) and I was just taking my break for dinner. I told them not to ever harass my father, that it's going to take a day to back date my bank statements from last year, black out my personal info and print them. The store manager said he didn't care. He asked me why I couldn't do it that night, I explained I was busy again and why. Then he started yelling "Where do you work? What do you do all day that you can't bring them in?? I talked to your dad, he said you don't have a ** job! How are you going to pay this account??? I want that TV brought in now, I am not ** playing with you!! Karl can't do ** for you! I own this ** store, what's Karl going to do?? Did you get the letter yet from my lawyer?? This is **, bring me my TV NOW!!" and then I hung up on him.
I won't answer their calls now. My father is pretty convinced that I will be arrested this week because he was told that. I'm upset because of how quickly this escalated. The clerk who 'owns' the store acknowledged the clerk who I normally dealt with was fired which could be the reason why the issue wasn't addressed in July. He also acknowledged that there was a 'minor' problem in July but wasn't aware of it at the time and my current pay off amount includes a lot of fees.
So this is where I stand. Either I give back my daughter's christmas present which I paid almost a grand for, or get arrested for grand theft. If it hadn't been my daughter's TV I would have brought it back many times over. This is what parents do for their children.
This whole entire situation sickens me. The gleeful cheery smile from the clerks who nod and process payments without ever mentioning that the payments, regardless of the amount... was never going to be applied to the principal. And then later having the same clerks try to push into my apartment and threatening my family members over a mistake their store made on 20+ inch VIZIO TV that has never picked up my WiFi signal! I haven't even been able to enjoy a Netflix binge since we got it in November 2013.
I've begun an electric and debt purge. I will never ever ever ever again deal with this company again or any other soul suckling companies. Rent-a-center places hardworking families in debt with these false hopes that they will one day own the appliance/furniture that they couldn't afford before. The reality is that even when I own this crappy fake Sony TV I will be paying for it monthly as it uses my electric to run. I've had it!

Okay, I have rented around 17 years and yes I know that's said. I have bought a lot of stuff, not one time was I ever late even when I was at one point paying almost $400 a week. So here is my **, they call me each Saturday to remind me my payment is due and when will I be in to make the payment. I have told them over and over I do not need to be reminded, that it's only been 7 days and I have been paying for 17 years and they are going to get me fired for calling me at work, to stop calling but they still do. So now if they call me I will wait until Sunday and pay online, maybe they will catch on.

OMG! NEVER EVER E.V.E.R. DO BUSINESS WITH THIS LOCATION! ESPECIALLY BILLY! I have been a customer for two years. Never had a problem till I got a new job and had to change payment from weekly to biweekly. To avoid any late payments I ASKED Billy to come and get my merchandise for a week so I could stay on track and he could bring it back. He says, "No Mrs. ** that's too much work. Since you're such a valued customer I'll give you that week and you'll be fine." I go, "Great! That's cool but you're sure I'll be OK that way?" "Absolutely ma'am. No problem." He blatantly lied to me. And for SEVEN months and STILL counting I've being harassed about that one week that Billy supposedly took care of for me.
He has come to my home like he's a U.S Marshall and I'm a drug king pin. The most ridiculous sight I've ever seen in my life. He sat on my couch like he lived here and gladly accepted my money but STILL hasn't taken care of that week. I REFUSE to pay simply on principle now. I know moving forward I wouldn't tell my worst enemy to spend their HARD earned money so Billy can puff vaporizers on the job and come to your home like some sort of enforcer behind a funky week HE was supposed to take care of. First of all I want to state that this is in reference to the Rent-A-Center located in Laramie, WY. My family has used Aaron's for a few things we have bought and have been very pleased. Our last purchase we got a stove and have been making regular payments on it. Back in June we went to make a payment only to find a note on the door stating to make our payments to Rent-A-Center and the address. When we made the payment we asked about why we had to make payments there and were told that they were only taking payments for Aaron’s because our local store closed its doors. We didn't think anything about it since the main gal we dealt with at Aaron’s was working there at Rent-A-Center.
Recently I tried to go online to make my payment but found out that I couldn't. I called Aaron’s only to find out that Rent-A-Center bought out our contract and we were not informed about it like we were suppose to have been. Aaron's filed a complaint and I am waiting for a call from the regional manager at this time.
I think that Rent-A-Center should have been upfront and honest about the entire situation and either called people or sent out something in the mail. I am not pleased that they misrepresented themselves by telling us they were taking the payments for Aaron’s when in fact they were buying out our contract and we have no idea if they have added charges (since their products are more expensive) or what our new contract even states now that they have gotten it. I would like to figure out if Aaron’s can take back my contract or what to do because I do not trust Rent-A-Center nor do I like them. Another way that they misrepresented themselves was when I talked to them about how they were going to handle my referral since I referred someone to Aaron’s, and they said they had to talk to their boss - but they would get it figured out, not a problem.

They did take it back 2x for - 4 months and it's going on 3 years next month, which will be 36 month- many 4, which it's still overpaying by over 6 month. How can anyone tell how I can get the money I have overpay... Am also paying for a set of couches which I don't have a problem paying, and I have been paying without missing a payment, but if you do the math you will also notice I have overpay, thank you. They tell you it's new but it is not. You buy and then find out it's recalled or discontinued. When you call to speak to the manager I or my dad gets this rude girl, she really should be fired. I go in to pay things off to get crap that is not worth paying off. They need to be honest, and not give people other peoples problems or at least make sure it works and if it is used give a cash price for a used item not a new item price for used. Example: they were going to charge me for a Note 8.0, tried telling me it was new. When I got there it was used, very used and was going to charge me 400. That's a price for a new one. Used cash price from a private owner is 158, refurbished 226 cash price out the door. Be careful. Look up pricing before buying anything through them and make sure it is new if you want a good deal.

It all started with a previous rented couch. I was 7 months pregnant, moved in with my bf, sat on the couch and it broke (I weighed 197lbs). They came out to confirm it was broken - say they will be out Monday to pick it up for repair. We are like "we have kids we need a couch here in the meantime." "Oh we don’t provide a couch in the meantime". After further research, in the clause it is required for them to. So after a week of arguing with them they bring out a love seat in the meantime. SO nice - mind you 2 kids, 2 adults. After a total of 5 weeks, R.A.C. wanting money for a couch we don't have that's broken and lots of calls to corporate and complaints, they finally say “Ok we will give you the option to pick out a whole new couch.” So we did - it had burn holes about 10 and some dirty stains but other than that it was nice and came with the side tables and 2 lamps and we figured we get some resolve to clean up the couch and we will be good and we made out.
So we do that - give them the payment they want. This bring us to mid-August. We pick this couch out. Within a 2 week period we ran into some money troubles, call them, say, “Hey we might be late with this payment by a week but no longer.” “No problem," they say. I'm the only one who sits on the couch, mainly everyone else does too, but me majority of the time to do my work. I'm coming up with bites all over me random places, all below neck area. I think maybe because of all my recent stress - it’s just my body relieving the stress. As weeks go by still happening more often but I look up info and see that dust mites can cause allergic reactions and could be the cause. So I still blow it off. Mind you I do have a life. I have a disabled son and so is my bf, so there's a lot going on.
I then see a bug that ran very fast across the floor and get my bf to kill it. We are like "was that a roach?" He says, "NO they don't bleed and when I squished them blood came out. They gush white or something?" Ok seasons changing whatever. Then comes again some more life troubles. We tell them, “Can you work with us. We have no problem paying, we just have to wait on this money comes.” R.A.C employee says, "No problem. Stay in contact and no matter what, we can work with you".
They harass the crap out of us EVERYDAY even though we ok'd it with them. We get stopped on the street, door tags every day, calls to friends phone constantly. We call and talk to GARY the store MANAGER - the most ignorant unprofessional jerk ever. My bf calls him on a friends phone and say, “Listen, we told your employees and made sure it would be no problem. You need to stop with the harassment and give us the time you discussed.” Gary says, “I don't care what you were told. We are coming to pick up the couch”. My boyfriend hung up so we could go to another R.A.C in our area, explain what happened and see what our rights are since obviously Gary don't like us after the big stink with the first couch.
As soon as he hung up Gary calls the phone back. The friend answers and says, "What did he tell you? This is not his phone. Don't call this number back. He already left anyway." Don't you know he has the nerve to call the friend again and start yelling no word to lie. "I know he is there put him on the phone!" Friend, "Now this is harassment. I know the law. You call again I will report it to the police. You were already told 2 times this is not his phone". Gary, "Who is this?" Friend, "That is none of your business. I am hanging up now. You have been warned." Hung up on him. He even called back but the friend did not answer and just ignored it. We did not pursue the harassment because I ended up getting too busy with my son's disability and that's way more important.
I tell my boyfriend 3 days later when we got the money that he just could not wait for, just pay it off. Pay the rest of it off, I'm done. It will be less money anyways and 1 less bill next month. We do. So we are now in beginning 1st week of September and don't you know, we see another bug but this time comes running out from the couch cushion. Now we have totally ruled out roaches because we pulled the fridge out, the stove and even left a plate of chicken exposed for 6 hours just to see. We all know that's the true test.
We proceed to call corporate again, tell them the new issue - talk to so many people without help until we get Heidi - she was so helpful. She called R.A.C. They told her they put the claim in and we should hear back from them tomorrow. Next day called in, got some other lady. She says, "Are you sure it was in your name?" My boyfriend, "Yes". Lady says, "Ok let me do more research on this and give you a call back". He then gave them till the end of that day and proceeded to call back to see what she found. She tells him, "They did not submit the claim but I (her) did get them to submit it." She gave him Heidi and the claim #. "She should be in contact with you tomorrow."
My boyfriend called Heidi, left her a message. He got in contact with her that night or the next day. Heidi tells him that Terminix will be out - that they will contact us within 2-3 days. They came Friday of last week. The guy shows up. We never scheduled or talked to Terminix. So it was a shock when we get a knock at the door that morning and it was him. He focused on the kitchen, living room and kids room. I had to tell him to do the bedroom. He put roach bait down. Now it was time for me to pick up my son. So he left but he never even touched the couch, the MAIN PROBLEM!! So now I sit on the couch again, whew relief - finally can be comfortable again. Mind you I had not sat on the couch since I seen the bug come out of the couch.
Now that I sit on it again, I get the bites - not as much. But by Monday night I laid on the couch and fell asleep since I am a little sick. I wake up with bites on my legs and feet again and some on my back. Now we are back to the internet looking this up not wanting to believe this has not ended since the terminator guy came out and we had his friend here and they both know my big phobia of bugs and are like no and yes, no and yes.
Now comes Tuesday morning, still now constantly itching more. I had laid on the couch again and was on and off sleep while my son was at school. I fell asleep maybe 10 minutes because my boyfriend just loves to wake me up for stupid stuff. I get up and start itching crazy on my side. I have been cold and hot so I have my blanket on me. The side I was laying on my hip area is covered with bites. I'm so pissed, so exhausted and just sick of the ending crap. I go lay down in the bedroom. My dumb mistake because as I'm laying there pondering what this is more like def bedbugs, but how we don't see any and no one else is getting bit except my boyfriend like 2 times.
I think well whatever bit me could be on my blanket and now I laid on the bed. I instantly put it in the washer and the clothes I wore took a shower. So my boyfriend lays on the bed a little later and fell asleep. After he woke up he’s got a look on his face. I'm like "What’s wrong?" He says, “I fell asleep and now I wake up itching.” The kids are all over their bedroom floor and their beds and in our bed. We sleep in the room - no bites from the bed before today. We get on the phone with corporate again, the gentleman from Terminix etc.
Now they gotta go through all of it again. We gotta wait 3-5 days to hear anything. I say "What am I to do in the meantime?" I don't want my son bringing them to school and am def not gonna be able to sleep again. They tell us we never said anything about bedbugs. Oh yes we did. I explained everything in detail like I am doing now with you to them. I didn't miss a thing. I am sitting on the floor with my son coloring and after 10 mins, I see something on the floor, little bright red bug moving fast. I immediately tell my boyfriend BUG!!!!
He says "wow that is one of them." The first day we see it good enough to 100% confirm no more guesstimating, plus my boyfriend was talking to Eugene from Terminix while this took place, explained it to him and he said that was easy to spot because the bug just ate blood, that's why he is so bright red and prominent. Mind you though once again me. WHY? Because when I earlier traveled the bug had to have been on me or something. I'm no expert but now it’s becoming an infestation issue.
I am not waiting any longer for this to be solved especially because this is all due to their negligence and the exterminator was given instructions to only go after roaches and not inspect like they should have as I have researched also. I have to move by the end of this month. There is no way I'm gonna let R.A.C and their corporation to ruin my life and force me to throw all our belongings away. We have no money for that. I read that this is so common with other reviews from other customers of RAC on the corporate website.
So I will NEVER end this fight until RAC is no longer a company - no longer exist. I might be nice and let them stay in business if they actually fix their corporation because this is not just my area. I have read bedbug and unprofessional customer service in MANY different states. So the flaw is with the WHOLE R.A.C. Thank you - I hope you take this seriously and actually have a soul. Put yourself in our shoes and our kids shoes. What this could cause for my family.
