I've been a DirectBuy member since the 80s or 90s. I got attracted to the discount prices that they've had. As a member, I've bought some home furnishing and the experience has been very easy and convenient. I also like the quality of the products I've purchased. It's outstanding for the price I've paid. I highly recommend DirectBuy.

We're very happy with the service we've been getting from DirectBuy. We were building a new country home from scratch and we knew we would get very good deals going through them, so we decide to become members. We bought quite an array of things through them, like all the flooring for the cottage, Goodfellow lumber. And then, we bought sinks, baths, toilets, furniture, bedroom sets, some mattresses over the years, tiles and our blinds as well and we got our kitchen made through them.
The frustrating thing about purchasing through them is that it’s time-consuming. Aside from having to go through the catalog, we live in Montreal, so we have to drive to Ottawa. It's a journey going to them, but we get to save a lot of money. So we deal with it. Quality-wise, we're not very happy with the toilets. They were older models. But generally, we're very happy and satisfied with them. The cost of membership is high, so you have to be sure that you're gonna be spending a lot of money (more than the membership fee) to be worth it. We renew every year because we still purchase through them and when we have something to replace, we always check DirectBuy.

I liked the cost of being able to save money on things through a DirectBuy membership. So I signed up with them. I’m into products and things like furniture, electronics, appliances, kitchen stuff, and bathroom fixtures, so I have purchased a lot of stuff from them. My experience has been really wonderful and the only challenge is that the showrooms have been eliminated, so it is a little bit difficult to see the product. But with DirectBuy, you're essentially paying for good quality. Also, the delivery has been great. But if I compare it to Amazon where I have Prime membership, you get free shipping and it is expedited as well. It would be a nice feature to add some sort of benefit through DirectBuy.
There has been a couple of instances where I had to go through a Savings Guarantee where there would be an additional time that was involved to where I had to wait because Concierge had to go reach out to the manufacturer and the manufacturer had to approve then come back and let me know. So, to avoid all that waiting time, it would be best to go ahead and honor the 15% discount if they found it cheaper somewhere then have DirectBuy handle it directly from their end based on the customer service experience standpoint. All in all, if you’re thinking about buying one or two products here and there, DirectBuy is not worth it. But if you're having to make projects, it is totally worth it.

DirectBuy's price and overall extra discount made me sign up for membership. I've been with them for more than 10 years now and it's been saving me a great deal. It's easy to navigate DirectBuy's website. I've bought furniture through them and I've been very satisfied with the quality of the items I've been getting as it is in line with what I’m paying.

I joined DirectBuy back in 2003 to build my house and I’ve saved $200,000 with them. I have done windows, blinds, flooring, stereo systems, furniture and cabinetry with them. Everybody I’ve ever talked with that’s doing anything much at all, I told them, “You need to join DirectBuy.” They’ve always been excellent. I was able to buy three-star furniture from them rather than two stars from the store because I still got it for less.
In the past, when the stores were open, you would go in to the locations and get the help that way. Sometimes they would call headquarters in Merrillville to see if they could get additional help. Now, since it’s all online and by phone I have been very pleasantly surprised that it has been great. I have no complaints at all and I don’t even miss the store not being here anymore. With DirectBuy I always get the quality that I was hoping for at a price that was always less than what I could get in the store.

Whenever we buy from DirectBuy, it has been good for the most part and we have always had good luck with their products. My wife finds it easy to navigate the website and find products though sometimes it takes a while for them to get back when I wanna get a price. That aside, DirectBuy has really good quality products and the cost is a lot cheaper.

It seems that every time I contact Direct Buy, you have lost multiple brands. Not only that but there are always limitations on which items you can get from the brands that you do have. Having lost our local club was a significant blow because I can’t access catalogues and the concierge service just doesn’t come close to replacing that in person service. You don’t seem to have a complete list of products online, and it takes hours to get questions answered. I used to be a huge fan of Direct Buy but I just don’t feel like it’s worth the cost anymore.

Direct Buy has good deals and so far, I've been with them for 12 years now. I've purchased from them quite a bit of furniture, appliances, window coverings, all kinds of stuff for remodeling and updating, and I had a very good experience with them. However, to order online, they don't let you use American Express, but when you do a purchase order, they do. I hope we could use American Express for all purchases without having to do a purchase order type of thing. Nonetheless, I've always been happy with the products I received from them. It has very good cost saving for the quality and it beats the competition of going to a store. I've recommended Direct Buy to family and friends.

I gave DirectBuy a try and used that for Hunter Douglas blinds. Then we've done some major remodeling so I continued to use it for various things. I've bought rugs and light fixtures. Recently, I also bought outdoor kitchen things and outdoor furniture. I also bought knives and a lot of things all over the board, like clocks and decorative items. The quality has been good so far. But there is one thing I don’t like. I bought some rugs and the quality of them is not that great. But I didn’t do my research. If I'm buying an item and I'm unfamiliar with the brand, I would do a lot of research and investigating. Then usually, I look for something specific after I've done my research.
I'm also getting misinformation on shipping dates. They get changed and that happens just like Mother Nature. My first frustrating experience was when I bought some very expensive dining chairs. I had a deadline and they didn’t have the fabric that I initially chose. So I had to choose another one without seeing it. That was frustrating but I made it worked. The chairs got here the day before I needed them so that worked out good. Currently though, there have been some delays with new items as well. But everything else has been good.
I wish that there was a Denver store though. When I first got DirectBuy, they had an actual storefront here in Denver and I had relationships with various people in different departments. But now, they no longer have that so everything is done without personal contact. The sad thing is that I don’t have a relationship with anyone. Still, DirectBuy turned out to be a good thing for us. It's a good investment and others should give it a try.

I have ordered many items from DirectBuy. This one was very late. When it was finally sent it the delivery service it took them two weeks for them to process it. I had made three phone calls trying to set up delivery because it was so late and the baby was due to go home. Very unhappy. The delivery company only goes once a week to my location.

I purchased a KitchenAid refrigerator in July 2018. It is now Sept 11, 2018 still no fridge, it was originally to be delivered July 29... We sold our fridge in anticipation of the new one's arrival, only to be told it would not be shipped until the 10/3/1018, would not arrive 'til 10/101018. Here’s the deal he we not found a cheap 200.00 fridge for our shed we would be in serious trouble. Today 9/11/2018 I was trying to cancel this order and buy a fridge at Home Depot to be delivered Sept 18 2018, and am told by the rep there is no guarantee they will refund my money... REALLY? At this point... I am so frustrated.

I wanted the savings on major home remodeling and furniture and we've used DirectBuy when we were replacing the living room furniture and the office desk. I purchased furniture from Drexel Heritage and it was very good. I also bought two desks from Hooker and they were both nice quality. Right now, I'm in the middle of a kitchen remodel. At some parts, products were really hard to track because of the way they changed the website. But that might be more related to the product, like as far as rugs, I had to keep calling somebody to give them the number and then they let me know if they had it. That was very difficult. But generally speaking, you can see what's available and the price. And for starters, that’s all you really need to see if you're gonna go forward with something or not. The purchase experience is usually smooth.
However, I miss the showroom because I can't do now what I did before. They had a showroom close to my house and I was supplying my own fabric for the furniture. It's not impossible now but it's a little bit more removed. It would have been nice to be able to go into a showroom where they have the products and work out the cabinet design. But all of that is done remotely now and you would have to patient with the website and with all the calling and emailing back and forth. I could only get one little thing done at a time but the cabinet designer that I worked with was very patient. We did it over the phone and online. That’s all they have available right now, and it wasn’t quite as convenient. That's not the way I usually like to conduct business. I would have preferred to do that in person. It would have been easier and it would have taken less time for both of us. But that aside, our DirectBuy experience has been very good so far.

I've been a member of DirectBuy for a long time. When I moved to this area, my real estate agent told me about them and we became members because I had bought a new house and I wanted to do some renovations. Then my family moved here too. With DirectBuy, I could find materials for me and my family. I also own a business where I do renovations. I asked DirectBuy if I could buy materials for some of my jobs at the odd time, and I continued with them for the last 11 years. I got in when things were really inexpensive and the renewal fees were cheap. My renewal fees now have gone up considerably but it's still worth it in my eyes.
The staff is very friendly too. It's gotten better over the years. Before, the rules were so strict that if I forgot my card, I couldn’t get in the building. Now, they recognize people so I find it a little bit more lax, which is better. DirectBuy would just like to sell their product and the more people who come, the more they're gonna sell. So it's basic economics. They're gonna look after their vendors to make sure that they're not encroaching on the businesses.
My wife looks online for something that she likes and makes the purchases. I also keep an eye on to see what's there if I need it. The prices always seem to be good and the quality is good. I've bought patio furniture there. I still do the odd renovation once a year and I would buy kitchen stuff from DirectBuy and put it in somebody’s house. I also bought a couple of kitchens when I used to build and sell houses. It was cheaper for me to buy cabinets from DirectBuy than for me to build them. The only time it's cheaper for me to build one is if it's a total custom cabinet. So I think DirectBuy is a good product.
But they had a huge warehouse in Calgary before then they downsized. It's a franchise thing though and rent is really expensive in Calgary so maybe new owners came in and wanted to keep their overhead down. The warehouse has gotten a lot of smaller and it gets really crowded in there at times. So they really want you to pick up whatever you ordered really quickly. They give you a limited time to pick it up and I've always found that to be a hassle because it was hard to fit into my schedule a lot of times. That would be the only drawback with DirectBuy. But I understand what they're trying to do. They don’t wanna be overcrowded. And other than that, everything has been fine. When I've wanted to know when things were coming in, I would speak with their customer service people.
Dealing with DirectBuy has been a good experience for me. My wife has recommended it to other people as well. We even got a referral check from DirectBuy for somebody one time. They had a program way back then that if you referred somebody and they became members, you get a small check. It was like 100 bucks and you could go out to dinner with it.

I was going to make renovations in my house and decided to be a DirectBuy member. Buying from them went very nicely and everybody is very helpful. However, sometimes we cannot return the product if we don’t like it and we’re not ordering certain products because of that. They provide insurance for appliances but they don’t offer that insurance in the province of Quebec, only in Alberta. Also, there’s a travel agency with DirectBuy and the person that we talked to when we called was in a hurry and was not very helpful. Other than that, we’re very happy with the quality of their products. I'm renovating my kitchen and the bathrooms. We’re doing the kitchen this year and we’ve redone one washroom in the basement. There’s one more washroom to be done on the second floor. I would tell others about great deals they can get with DirectBuy if they want to renovate their kitchen or other areas in their home.

We were in the process of a move and the house that we moved from burnt down. We needed a lot of furniture and we got into DirectBuy. We have been members since 2007. I used to go in the shop and look through the catalogs when purchasing from them. But I’m getting better at doing the online stuff and doing the concierge with the equipment is nice. We bought mattresses, washing machines, tables, chairs, and bedroom suites. The quality of the merchandise has always been great and we enjoy it.
We also bought our two sons the children’s stuff as our gift when they became pregnant. It was what they liked and what they wanted. We are happy customers of DirectBuy and we haven't had to return anything yet. But when we bought an expensive bedroom suite, one of the night tables fell and broke. I was a little worried about it but they returned it to the shop and it turned out okay. We have been satisfied with DirectBuy and I'd recommend them. I even had people join because of our experiences.

However, with my recent order, we are missing one of our chairs. I've contacted customer service, but it's been five days and they still haven’t gotten back to us about getting us the fourth chair.

I have purchased cabinets through D/B in the past, and installed them myself, to help increase value and modernize our home before selling. This was very productive, and the house sold to the first person who looked at it! I'm installing kit, bath, and laundry cabinets in our new home, the ordering process was easier than in the past, Crystal ** was very helpful and professional, worked diligently and helped me work out all of the complicated details. My kit design has a corner refrigerator and was a tight installation. The kit/den combination is a very popular design/build concept and the refrigerator being the largest appliance by far is one of the main focal points. Crystal made the whole process easy and in a timely manner, very friendly and personable, I wish more people could as professional as her.

The order process was pretty simple, although I used GreenSky financing for the first time and that was a little more "complicated" than I thought it should have been... But it all worked out. The order seemed to take a little to be fulfilled than I thought it would. The order seemed to have been "lost" for a week or so to where I had to contact DirectBuy customer service and they tried to track it down. They did and I was updated... Total process to sort this out, about 10 days.
Then the delivery folks apparently had an old phone number of mine so that took a few more days to sort out where I was leaving messages with the delivery company and they were calling the old number still. That eventually got sorted out too. The scheduled delivery day arrived and the delivery team gave me the 30-minute out call I asked for. They arrived on time and were very professional and helpful. Were willing to do more than I thought they would... Super-happy with that service! Yes, there were a couple of blips but all were resolved and I'm happy with the product.

We went to DirectBuy's showroom and they had deals on furniture. Their reps also told us some things which made me sign up with them. Using their website has been great. Since becoming a member in 2010, I've bought clothes, jewelry, and furniture and everything I've purchased has been good. The price is also good. And although you have to be willing to make the sacrifice for the upfront cost and have some projects that you’re gonna make it pay for itself, being a DirectBuy member is a good deal.

I have been working with Jennifer ** on some theater seating and a sectional sofa for our basement. She has been very helpful with pushing vendors to provide material samples, as you can imagine it is difficult to purchase furniture site unseen but Jennifer has been very patient and professional. She is the my go to person at DirectBuy.

I was building a home and was getting prices on plumbing fixtures. I sat down with the DirectBuy people and priced out what I wanted to do. I was able to save enough on one fixture to pay for the membership and I made all kinds of purchases. Most of them were furniture, homes appliances, plumbing fixture, windows, and doors. The shopping experience and the way the concierge handled it has vastly improved as opposed to five years ago. Their follow up was good, too. However, their website was a little iffy. I didn’t think the graphics were exceptional and the search function was a little cumbersome. Also, their categories for products were a little confusing at times. Other than that, DirectBuy carries some junk and some good stuff but their cost has been more than fair, plus I got what I paid for and more. DirectBuy is great and I have told everyone I know about it.

I've been a member of DirectBuy for quite a while now. I live in Canada and a lot of times we have product selection that’s absolute crap. DirectBuy gives me access to manufacturers' full catalogs and I get everything at a good price. Finding the products I'm looking for and navigating through DirectBuy's website are very easy. I just use the search function when I'm looking for something and I can usually pop it up quickly. The quality of their products is outstanding and the quality compared to the cost is excellent. That's why I keep my DirectBuy membership. If you want anything high end, there's usually a huge premium when you buy it locally. So, DirectBuy is a better way to do things.
I've been using my DirectBuy membership for a kitchen renovation which is still ongoing and my purchasing experience with them has been great. There was one time where I was quoted the wrong product by the supplier. I shipped it back and they shipped me the correct product and I didn't have to pay shipping or any other fees, which made me happy. I would definitely recommended DirectBuy. In fact, I have, several times. Going with them is a great idea if people have a big project. If not, then probably the membership fees are gonna erase any advantages they get in the short-term.

We did the whole presentation deal with DirectBuy, joined, and we've been members since 2007. We love renovating homes and we liked the cost savings. We've purchased mostly home renovation products, like tile, wood floor, and carpet. We recently did blinds too. Purchasing is easy. However, the showroom is too far and it’s almost a three-hour drive to get to, so it’s not worth it. The one close to us recently closed so we do all purchase online. If they could open more showrooms, that would be awesome. Also, the mobile app is horrible. I hope they would allow viewing more results per page. It’s even slow. Four will pop up if I'm looking for floor tiles, but there’s over 5,000 if I go online. So, it’s just dated.
The quality of the items I’ve received from DirectBuy, on the other hand, is fantastic. We usually use the Fulfillment Centers with delivery where they call and set up a time. They’re always on time and it’s always packaged impeccably. Their pricing is extremely competitive as well. We do a lot of price shopping and we even use DirectBuy’s pricing to get lower prices at other outlets like Home Depot and other retailers. So, if you are looking to refurnish your home, then becoming a DirectBuy member is definitely a great buy.

Regarding my experience speaking with Karen **, I will say that she was great and very helpful. She gave me feedback in a timely manner. She was friendly and ready to be of assistance. However, regarding doing business with DirectBuy and saving money, I will give my experience a 1/2 star rating. DirectBuy has repeatedly disappointed me with products that are unavailable or certainly not lower priced. I feel I do not save money. (Well, I guess in one way I do save money because the products I want to order are unavailable.) I will probably not renew my membership.

I learned about DirectBuy by going online looking to purchase a specific item on the internet. I clicked on something, ended up getting an interview to go in and found out what it was all about and have never regretted it. I chose to be a member because of the prices and discounts that I would be entitled to. My initial purchase was a Panasonic microwave. I completely did over our kitchen and all the windows in our house. I recently bought a dishwasher that’s being installed today and I’m waiting delivery of a new sofa. The website part of the purchase is fine, but the customer service part of it is what’s exemplary.
However, returning something is really difficult. They used to have a warehouse here locally in Halifax in Dartmouth and that was super convenient. So that was a bit of a disappointment when they pulled out. I bought a washing machine and I really wish I had bought a better one or one with more features on it kind of thing but returning it was next to impossible. You end up getting sort of charged on the shipping all over again and that part is tricky.
Nevertheless, I highly recommend DirectBuy. There’s downsides, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s great and it’s worth it. I went to two places and saw a sofa that I really liked. I looked online and found out that the price was gonna be $2,800. DirectBuy was offering it to me at $1,460 plus $60 shipping. It worked out to be $1,800 with taxes so I saved $1,000 instantly. When I also bought a Panasonic microwave it was retailed for $999 everywhere but I got it at DirectBuy for $499. When the shipping and taxes and everything was all included, I came away with what I thought was a steal of a deal. I saved $400.
I got my blinds at 80% off and my windows at half price. Plus my contractor said he had never seen any better quality windows. It's that kind of thing that makes you pretty satisfied. Once I bought it long ago I paid $5,000 which I did save on my initial purchase of the windows. I got it back basically. Right now, I pay $199 a year. I just bought a dishwasher and I priced it for $899 at Home Depot and I got it for $510. DirectBuy is ideal for me. I feel comfortable with the selection and the options. It works for me because I don’t mind looking online. I did go to the store and look at the sofa that I just purchased because I wanted to see it in person, because you sometimes have to sit on it. So it may not work for everybody but it sure works for me.

I was looking at the quality of the suppliers of DirectBuy and comparing the pricing. I built a home and used them for tiles, windows, kitchen hardware, furniture and anything it takes to build a home. The only thing I don’t purchase through them is jewelry and travel. I’ve been very pleased with them. It’s not some place wherein if you’re gonna order, you’re gonna get it overnight or in a week or two because they’re cutting out some of the middleman there from that direction. Yet, I’ve never had any problem.
When they had a brick and mortar store here where I’m located, all the girls were great, very informative, very helpful and always knew their products. When the store closed, it went to the online concierge help type of thing and that has worked out fine with me as well. The only thing is sometimes, I’m one of those that like to touch and feel before a purchase and when they were here in the store that was nice because sometimes they did have the products in the store, or you could find them locally and then go out take a look at them and come back and purchase.
I recently purchased more furniture through them. I just built another new house and it’s all been good. I’ve never had any damaged product or any problem with anything. The concept of DirectBuy to me is you get access to a higher quality of product at a price that you would pay for a lower quality of product retail-wise. If you look at those on the retail level, they have a huge markup, especially in furniture. So I like being able to buy the higher quality of products at a better price. The furniture that I recently purchased, if I would’ve bought at retail, I would’ve paid another $10,000 or $15,000 more for it.
I tell people about them all the time. They always ask me, “Where did you find this at?” I tell them through DirectBuy. They’re like, “I’ve heard of that, but I heard it’s real expensive to join.” At the time when I first did, it was very expensive. I don’t know what the process is now but I’ve always renewed my membership. I tell others it’s a wonderful concept I like that they went online but the website could use a little boosting. It could come up to a little bit more today’s time when it comes to shopping. But it’s still functional. DirectBuy has been very beneficial to me. I'm a very happy and satisfied customer.

This order (Sunpan) took a long time. Jenifer ** was the only one that was able to straighten out the process and get it done. I had been waiting 4 days (3 business days). I had the pricing on day 4 but the shipping needed to be change. I was then told that I had to wait another 48-72 hours. It should not take one full week to get an order corrected. Jenifer ** came in on the 3rd day and fixed the problem. She has been great to work with. I have done other orders with her.

I was really skeptical at first. There's so many scams out there. Then I went to one of the open houses, knew about savings and then doing a bit more research myself I decided to be a member of DirectBuy. I made purchases when I was building and doing some renovations on the house like with the flooring and toilets. Recently, we bought a fridge and microwave. We got from them everything related to a house and then some furnishings, like couches and coffee tables.
They have name-brand products. The only thing that I’m a little bit skeptical is sometimes the stuff’s imported from China. We bought a carriage bed and I probably wouldn’t have bought it if I would’ve known it was from China because it had quite an off smell for three months afterwards. But I’ve told all my friends or acquaintance of mine that were building a house that it’s a good deal. However, if you already have a house and it’s furnished it’s not a great deal.
Also when we first got our membership there was a store in Kingston so at least we could see something. What I’m finding is that even though they have a nice website, I still don’t have the access to all products. The other thing is when they closed down the shop in Kingston, they no longer had access to discounts locally, which we did buy something through DirectBuy where they take care of granite. They had Kingston Granite. We had quite a savings with buying our granite countertop but no longer do we enjoy that.
I saw that there’s more savings but now with their commission and sales and stuff like that, sometimes we buy from the big-box stores, especially when they have a sale on. There’s not a significant savings margin. When we used to get them, there was a hidden fee, but the fees didn’t seem to be as large as what they are now. All the people I’ve spoken to, the reason they bought the membership was for the savings and recently when I’ve talked to people there, they just come as needed. It doesn’t seem like there’s savings like there was when we joined 10 years ago. There's quite a number of big-box stores now in this fierce competition with price.

I’ve been a member of DirectBuy for 10 years. I decided to be a member because I get things cheaply there. I go there for better products and I've purchased their things for renovations, outdoor teak furniture and things like that. Purchasing in the early days before they became more web-friendly was very difficult. You had to go physically at a location, and you had to sit there with the books. It was really difficult and cumbersome to do. Now that they’ve moved more towards their website so it’s much easier to do. I think what is a little bit jarring at Direct Buy is all the handling fees when you finally add it all up. It is still a good deal but not as good as it seems in the face of it. Nevertheless, I would say to a friend that it’s worthwhile making the initial investment in DirectBuy if they will be spending a lot of money on things like cabinetry and all the things needed for a renovation because they'll save money.

We have been a member of DirectBuy for 12 years and we debated about renewing because they didn’t have the products that they used to have, which was quite disappointing. However, since we were gonna be building a new house, and we saved quite a bit of money previously from buying products through DirectBuy, we renewed our membership with them. When they had the local store here, the buying experience was really good. They brought the store back but it is not the same as it was before and I'm not nearly as happy with the way they are set up now. Before, they had all kinds of catalogs and you had an index on the front of the catalog that would show their multiplier because most of the catalogs had a retail MSRP price, and they took the multiplier to find out what their price was.
Now, if what they have online is not included or priced online, you have to go through the concierge to get a pricing, and it is doing nothing but wasting my time and their time. While the cost is still great, I have been finding cheaper areas to buy things with the same product than what DirectBuy has. Part of that comes now with having it delivered to my home versus delivering to the store that we used to have here. That makes them less competitive in quite a few products. Furthermore, it takes them anywhere from two to eight weeks to get a product for roughly the same price in just a few days from stores like Build.com or even Amazon.
We've spent around $50,000 on our purchases since we built a new house and got everything that we could buy through them. We got patio furniture, bathroom fixtures and most of our lighting and fans. They had a deal with Pella Windows at that time so we bought our windows through them as well. We stayed members, so apparently, we like it, but it's a lot harder to shop now with them than it used to be. DirectBuy is worthwhile if you are building a house and for a major remodel. Otherwise, based on what we paid for membership at that time, it would not be worth someone signing up for it if the cost is the same.

We were building a home and using the membership from DirectBuy, we purchased windows, doors, interior and exterior plumbing, cabinets, floors and other furniture. I worked directly with the two owners, Paul and Mark, and they were phenomenal, helpful, gave great suggestions and did troubleshooting. The overall quality was fabulous. If people are just gonna remodel a bathroom or do some minor repairs, they should go to Home Depot or Lowe's, but if they're looking at doing good products and major projects, then the membership fee with DirectBuy is worth the value.

I became a member of DirectBuy seven years ago. We were building a home and it was a good fit for us. We have had numerous purchases using my membership such as kitchen cabinets, granite countertops, appliances, and flooring. We also had vanities, light fixtures, and plumbing fixtures -- everything that we need in a home except for furniture. Our last purchase was a pier for the lake and right now, I'm inquiring into some log cabins. We've loved the items that we've purchased so far and they've been great. However, I miss the showrooms that I used to go to in Bloomington, Minnesota. I enjoyed going there and looking through the catalogs and seeing floor samples and the samples of the rock and faucets.
While, I miss the showroom experience a bit, with the new DirectBuy app, if I'm out shopping and I see something I like, I can take a picture of it and use the app. Overall, I enjoy DirectBuy and I plan on continuing our membership. It has worked very well for us and I had a great purchasing experience. I've already recommended to my sister and her husband who will be building a new home that they become members of DirectBuy.

I became a member of DirectBuy in 2006. At that time, they were advertising for the memberships and I was doing renovations to my house. I needed a kitchen and I thought that to see what it was gonna cost. I priced it out at Sears and strangely enough, the kitchen was around $10,000. However, at DirectBuy, it was $5,000, but the membership cost me $3,000.
I decided to buy the membership in case I needed more but didn’t buy anything else after that and I let it go dormant. Then recently, I bought a condo and decided to do renovations. I thought about reactivating my membership. When I was a member in 2006, they weren’t able to use MasterCard or Visa. One big change which convinced me to renew my membership was that they moved towards taking purchases by Visa.
My recent purchase went well. DirectBuy Mississauga has two design consultants. They're like liaisons. I chose Eleanor and she did all my kitchen and pantry measurements. She was very great to work with for all the adjustments and changes we made. We then put in my order for that. Then, I thought about getting a larger TV and saw the club exclusive for the 82-inch Samsung. I made the decision to buy it and then less than a month after I bought it, the price went down $260. I phoned up DirectBuy and their customer service department said they'd give me the difference as a coupon towards another purchase. I used it towards a bedroom set, which is a fairly high-end, expensive furniture by Alf. I was very pleased.
I've dealt with DirectBuy's concierge several times and they were helpful. I've been trying to buy an entertainment unit and I have to get the interior measurements for the shelf. They don’t have the answers right away and they have to call the manufacturer, which is understandable. I'm also looking for a dining room set and couches. I've been looking to find leather couches that have a sofa bed in them or a sectional that has a sofa bed. And it's been very hard for the DirectBuy representatives at DirectBuy in Mississauga. They can stick to the books, but they can't spend all the time on it. I don't know whether there’d be somebody that has a quick reference and could say if you are looking for sofas, these are the manufacturers we deal with. These are the ones that have sofa beds. These are the ones you can get in leather. These are the ones you can only get in cloth. I have to do the digging.
Not all the stuff in the catalog and in the online store are always there. I could call the concierge and I ask them to get me this model and they would say they could. Things like that are a more time consuming than just window shopping at a furniture place and seeing something. With something as important as a couch, I need to sit in it to see if it's the right distance for my legs, if it's the proper feel on my back, and if I like the cushion hard or soft. I couldn' t get that on DirectBuy too easily. I have to go to these big line stores and sit in the couch. Then see if I could get it at DirectBuy.
Meanwhile, I'm in the store and dealing with a salesman and he says they'll give me a really good discount and I don't know if DirectBuy is gonna have the same thing. From a marketing point of view, DirectBuy will have to deal with that. The clientele has to be willing to take a chance. Moreover, some places have the ability to say if you don’t like the product, they'll give you credit towards any other product you choose. DirectBuy doesn't have that ability yet.

The missing star reflects the amount of time I was limbo totally unaware of the status of my purchase. The other four stars are represent the ease of purchase, the price comparable to anywhere else and the customer service I received from Erika and Valerie. The biggest downside to this purchase was that the order went over a month without any recognition or notification that someone was working on it. Then I had to track the shipment down with the help of the DirectBuy Home Delivery Team, but even they had to take a moment to find it. It seemed as though someone had dropped the ball along the way and my furniture sat in a warehouse one week or more too long. Without the communication from Valerie and Erika I would have been much more upset and disappointed. Thank you Home Delivery Team.

We started with DirectBuy when we lived in Maryland and we thought that they were very nice. They had the shelvings and different things, and we were able to go and see products. We liked DirectBuy. They had top quality things and I was very excited when we first joined. We bought a niece of mine a china as a wedding present and when my neighbors needed a washer and dryer, we got it for them and they have been using it now for about 12 years. They love it and can’t get over it. We also purchased cabinets and different household things from there, and they are all very nice quality. We bought some bedroom furniture in the past as well and they were among the first things that we bought with DirectBuy. These are gorgeous oak and they’re premium furniture. They were $10,000 in the showroom but they were $4,000 at DirectBuy so we made up our initial $6,000 right off the bat.
My husband renewed our membership last year and when we went back, a lot of the products that they used to carry were not there anymore. There also wasn’t a lot in the magazines that I’ve gotten that is worth spending the money on. We tried to buy a dining room set from them, but a lot of them are not to our taste and we ended up going to the Amish community to get one. And when we went to go get wood flooring for our house, we ended up going through Lowe’s and they gave it to us cheaper. We were looking for Bruce flooring and DirectBuy was not carrying that particular style.
We bought some cabinets from them which were the same brand that we have in our home, and they look very nice. But not being able to go to the showroom and work directly with the designer was very cumbersome. It wasn't easy for either party when they were doing it by email. She did a good job but took four times longer to get our ideas across. We have one other house that need cabinets and I don’t know if we’re gonna continue the membership just for that. We needed a new faucet and found the same item less expensive at Costco.
DirectBuy has lost it and I was disappointed. When we first joined them, they had it all in the showroom. I know that those were expensive and that those were franchises, but I miss that. Things were online back when we joined but they still have places I could go to see stuff. Without that, a lot of times, it is hard to see what the finishes really look like. Also, where we live is a two-hour drive to get to the warehouse to pick the stuff up so it isn’t convenient anymore. We measure what it is worth and I don’t use them anymore. My husband is into kitchen and bath design and it just isn’t always fair to go to DirectBuy anymore. I hope they come back because I really enjoyed using them in the past.

We've been DirectBuy members for a lot of years now. We started when we were furnishing some homes. We thought that it would be a good idea to join to get some discounts. We've bought a lot of furniture from them and some occasional household-type stuff, and everything that we've ordered has been of really good quality. DirectBuy is definitely worth it if you're gonna be making some major purchases. So make sure you're planning on taking advantage of it because if you're buying it to buy the occasional thing, it isn't worth it.

I had a house fire and had to replace everything. I went through DirectBuy and the savings were good, so I stayed with them for the last 15 years. I bought furniture for the whole house, and dealing with the people there was a very good experience, and the deliveries were good as well. Most of the time, I went to their site, went through the catalog, picked out what I liked, and then I actually went to the stores, looked at it to see if it was really what I wanted, and if it was what I was looking for, then I went back and ordered it. My orders usually arrive not more than a couple of weeks. They would bring it in to their warehouse area and then I would pick it up and take it home. The quality of the items has been good. I haven't replaced any of it yet. I've saved about 25 grand through DirectBuy and I’ve told quite a few of my friends to try it out.

I was very pleased with the people that I dealt with at DirectBuy. They were polite, very helpful and always attentive to what my needs were and to what I wanted. I had dealt with DirectBuy when I was doing real estate almost 20 years ago. Then they sent me a free trial to check them out again and up to the point of delivery, I was very satisfied. It took two weeks of scheduling and rescheduling to finally get my chair in. I even sent an email to Tam because she knew of the problem I was having with the delivery company. And through coordinated effort, we finally got them to deliver. The driver called ahead of time to let me know that he was going to deliver that day. He came all the way from Austin to deliver and he said that they had lost a lot of people who were fired. I had a feeling that what I had ordered was probably sitting in someone else’s living room.
The delivery service was to blame for the delay of everything. But DirectBuy subcontracted and they were responsible for hiring the delivery company. Anyway, I’m happy that it was taken care of and I got what I wanted. DirectBuy did a wonderful job. I got my chair and I am enjoying that now. I knew the manufacturer and I had been looking at a similar chair. I wanted it in a different color but I love the color that I got. The chair is comfortable and everybody that has seen it said it was a nice chair.

It is frustrating that there are no convenient design centres near me. I still don't know whether I can pick up from the Brampton warehouse (I live in the Bolton area). Markham and Mississauga are very far and inconvenient for me.

The purchasing experience through the site has gotten better and easier. When we were renovating our house, we joined DirectBuy so we could get things at a better price. It has been over 10 years now since we've been a member and our experience has been good. Their customer service was phenomenal. I had a problem with an oven as it wouldn't shut off and then when I put on self-clean, it burnt my cupboard. I called the guys from the oven company who then came. However, they said, that they do not know. Another guy came and said he, too, did not know. I called the DirectBuy office, and they told me to bring it back in. We brought the oven back in and they shipped it back. Then I ordered a new one of a different kind and I got my oven back. They got me my money back, too.

I have been with DirectBuy for over 10 years. I like that we can get good prices on stuff. We have moved twice and built a house, and we have had some pretty large purchases. We've used them extensively for most of the stuff that we normally have to deal with -- flooring, furniture, appliances, bathroom stuff. They consistently offer us the best price point. The products we have bought are of good quality. We were buying all named brand stuff. They offered before and then briefly dropped. Now, they are offering it again, an extended warranty on the appliance and stuff we’ve purchased. That is always been beneficial. However, the buy-in was a bit steep, and that was why most of our friends never purchased a membership. But, we are at that point of just renovating our house, and we did the math and we saved the cost of membership buy-in just on the design of our kitchen alone.

At the time that we joined DirectBuy, it made a lot of economic sense. We were building a home and needed to source a lot of plumbing fixtures, lighting fixtures and furniture. Then I always take a look every year whether or not it makes sense economically to continue and so far, we've been able to justify that path. We have a secondary residence and we’ve also continued to update stuff periodically. We also do stuff over the course of time, like if we couldn’t afford to finish the basement before. We've been members of DirectBuy for over 10 years and right now, the cost of maintaining the membership is not so prohibitive.
With the ability to order using the website, making a purchase has become a lot easier also. In the past, you had to go into the store and arrange a time with one of the customer service reps. Now, a lot of items are available for online ordering and then for pick-up at the club. I’ve also used the concierge service over the phone and the web agent, and that has been good too.
But there are other things on the catalog that are being updated only once every six months. There are specific times, especially for electronics, when I'd go on to the website and notice that by the time I pay for the handling and shipping fee, DirectBuy’s price is more expensive than at Best Buy. Because of the technology, the price changes quite a bit. So they have to be careful and make sure that their catalogs are reflective of changes that are going on in the marketplace. That aside, certain things are very price competitive and the quality has been quite good as well. Sometimes things might get a bit damaged in the shipping but usually, I'll notice it right at the time of delivery so I won't take delivery of it. But I also tend to focus on stuff from good manufacturers.
They don't offer a lot of direct home delivery in Canada though. You have to go to the store but a lot of the real estate has closed over the past number of years. If the store was a 10-hour drive, I probably wouldn't be a DirectBuy customer anymore. But there's still a brick and mortar DirectBuy store relatively close to where I am and I like that. It's nice to have a store that's within a decent distance of my house.

I was very happy with the service I received from Concierge Shopping Agent Barbara ** but unfortunately the product I was inquiring about was substantially higher in price from DirectBuy than other retail outlets. Your List price started at $4.09 sf VS $4.39 sf at the Flooring Store. After DirectBuy Club Handling, Freight, Vendor Service Fees and Tax, ends up at $5.85 sf vs $4.61. Thats a lot of $$$ on 1000 square feet of vinyl flooring ($1228 more).

My husband and I have been DirectBuy members for 17 years. We thought the program would be good but the sales tactics were heavy-handed in the showroom. We were DirectBuy members when they still had a showroom but we caved. And then we became members but didn’t really use the program for a long time. The showroom hours here were very inconvenient for people who have jobs and I was overwhelmed with all of the catalogs. When they closed the catalog store, they offered the opportunity to work with a designer. There was one hour’s worth of free consultation with the designer and we took them up on that.
I furnished my dad’s entire house with Overstock so that was a whole lot of money that we didn’t save because we didn’t go to DirectBuy. But the prices were prices on DirectBuy with shipping. I found the same bed on Wayfair and it was the same price, only shipping was free and delivery was within three days as opposed to three weeks. The lead time between when DirectBuy gets things to us and when things locally get to us is something that DirectBuy still needs to work on. We were remodeling our two bathrooms upstairs and we purchased the valves for hooking up our bathroom on Amazon because our job was at a standstill due to the lead time.
I bought a free-standing tub, shower fixtures and undermount sinks through DirectBuy. They were more expensive but we got a better value for our money. I absolutely love April, our designer. She picked out a sectional for us and it took a very long time for it to get here, but it was beautiful. If you use April, DirectBuy is the best thing in the world, but you’re gonna have to plan ahead. The valves were ordered way early and April did that but the manufacturer was very slow for that. I’ve been a month with no bathroom and a week with nobody here because now I have to get on the plumber’s waiting list.
The $5,000 one-time entry fee at DirectBuy is very steep and then we have to pay $100 a year to renew. The reps in the showroom said, “If you walk out the door, you can never be a DirectBuy member again.” I don’t know if that was true or that was our sales people, but Kudos to April. Give her a phone call. We were ready to write DirectBuy off. However, I don’t think that we’ve even recouped our $5,000 entry fee yet which was our savings.

We buy furniture from DirectBuy and they have good pricing. I've been a member for at least ten years and I've not had issues with the furniture I bought. They used to have a showroom here, but it has been closed, so now, we have to do it online. We call them if we have any questions and they have been great.

I’ve been a member of DirectBuy for many years and like the good savings they could offer. I do my research and buy things that are good deals at DirectBuy and if they’re not, then I won’t buy them, but generally, the pricing has been very good. I've bought lots of furniture and just installed a kitchen from them as well. The purchasing experience has been very good and I’m happy with the products I've bought. While their website is not perfect, it has improved a lot. I’d tell friends to sign up especially if they have a big project going on.

Refridgerator down not even 1 year old! Members and people who want to purchase a membership BEWARE. You might save a couple of bucks but long run if your stuff breaks or you change your mind about a color you will be stuck. My 10 month old fridge stopped cooling all of a sudden, my food has all gone bad I am still waiting for the manufacturer to come out and service it cause they cancelled the appointment the day before. I also had problems with my stove that could have blown up same age because of an electrical blowout in the bottom that was eventually replaced. So are we receiving new or refurbished I'm not sure. Do you really want to take a chance? maybe you will be lucky, I was not. I'm still waiting. If they are selling goods then DirectBuy should back them.

I’ve been with DirectBuy for more than nine years because the cost savings are significant. The first time we purchased from DirectBuy was when we built a new house. Then the more recent purchases have been for renovations and upgrades. We've mostly bought appliances and electronics. We also purchased carpeting and some furniture. They are efficient and the purchasing experience is very good overall. I wish there was a broader choice of products but I’ve always found what I wanted or a very close equivalent so I’m happy. The staff has also helped me identify what I was looking for, and they've been helpful and knowledgeable. The products are fairly well-priced and the quality of the products is very good. The one thing that could be improved is delivery times. It could take anywhere from a couple of weeks to six weeks. But it’s a reasonable trade-off for the decent price I’m getting. I strongly recommend them.

We moved into a new house and we needed to furnish it. We were living then on another state and at that time, DirectBuy had consignees in some states and there was one in Albuquerque. We looked at the prices that DirectBuy had and we pretty much wanted to be members because of the discounts that we could get on quality items. We bought a dining set, two living sets, some appliances, lights, dishes and whatever we could decorate a house with. They were good quality because DirectBuy carries items that are high-end and from the middle range to the less expensive ones. At that time, I was able to get my Wolf Cooktop on one of the stores there because DirectBuy allowed the local agents to have a special contact with a local appliance store where we were given a small discount, so we took advantage of that.
Now, we moved into a new state and we are renovating the house. In some areas, DirectBuy has contractors and builders that they would recommend and they have designers to do a free in-house design but they don’t have those within the area where we live now. Also, DirectBuy got rid of all the agents where I could look at the stuff and they could order it for me. Now, they have a concierge that we can talk to and give us the information. If we need samples, I was told that they can be mailed. But as soon as the construction in our house will start, I will call DirectBuy and pay the fee so that there is some type of a project coordinator that I can deal with.

The website is good except everything’s not shown and it would be nice if everything that’s available to us was listed. If you don’t see everything, you go on and look through the books. There’s a lot more that you can see in the store than what you can see in the website. Also, we’re over an hour away from the warehouse and it is closed Sundays and Mondays. It’d be nice to be able to go there not right after work. We would get into Ottawa and it’s rush hour.
We’ve been with DirectBuy for 10 years and the quality of their products is very good. We’re happy with the two kitchen cabinets we purchased. We also have a fridge, a stove, a microwave and couches. I have told numerous people to sign up with DirectBuy if they’re doing any renovation, especially for kitchens. We saved a pile of money on our kitchen and that more than paid for the membership.

I had an absolutely unacceptable experience with this company! I ordered $7883.46 of Hunter Douglass Silhouette window treatments via Direct Buy/Decorview for my new home on May 12, 2018. It is now August 8 and I'm still missing two shades and one is broken (has been since day one), and the replacement has yet to be installed. Their installer of choice in our area, Topps Installation of Highland, MI, has been rude and uncooperative. They arrived without two of the shades, claiming they were lost, when in fact they did have them as the manufacturer had proof they were delivered with the rest of the order.
When they "found" them they said that they couldn't install them for six weeks because they were too busy, You would think that my appointment would get priority as there was an error that needed to be corrected. The woman from Topps Installation was so incredibly rude and uncooperative, especially considering the error was made by them. She said that she would find me another installer and failed to do so. I've contacted Decorview/Direct Buy several times for a solution. They did in fact find me a new installer but he has yet to receive the missing blinds. Only the one that was remade.
Now... Topps Installation claims that they again lost the missing shades that they were supposed to send to the new installer and now they have to be remade and re-sent to the new install guy. In a nutshell, no one has been helpful. Three months later and I still have Home Depot paper shades hanging in two of my bathrooms and a broken blind hanging in my master bedroom. I will be canceling my membership with Direct Buy as they have nothing to help rectify the situation.

In 1984, DirectBuy had a $1,200 membership and I was buying an '85 Corvette so I went to a meeting. They happened to have the stereo system I was gonna have installed on my new Corvette. I saved enough money on that to pay for the membership and I've been a member ever since. But it's tougher to buy stuff from them now because they closed all their showrooms. It used to be that you could go there, touch and feel the items, talk to somebody and get your questions answered. But now, it's all on the Internet. They do have their concierge though.
I did a thousand bucks worth of Kohler. But initially, I had looked in the book and I looked online but I couldn’t find the stuff that I wanted. So I talked to a concierge person and they looked it up. I’d already had quotes from Kohler directly so I had all the part numbers. The DirectBuy people looked them all up and figured everything up for me. Then they gave me a price to either have the stuff delivered to the warehouse, which is about a 40-minute drive away from me, or to have it shipped straight to my house. There was only about a $3 difference. There was no way I was gonna beat traffic and I told them to just ship it to the house. Everything was great and without the concierge people, the experience would have been a little more difficult.
On the other hand, my daughter’s daughter wanted all GE appliances and the package was about $70,000. Immediately, my daughter came to me saying that they had gone to the appliance stores and got prices. She wanted me to go on DirectBuy and find out. I thought DirectBuy would certainly carry GE but no. But you can’t win all the time. The latest ones I bought were the brand new kitchen cabinets and vanities. I had a problem with the cabinet company where they kept sending the wrong stuff but it had nothing to do with DirectBuy. The list price was about $58,000 and it cost me about $30,000 from DirectBuy. Those savings will cover a few years.

This is the second time I have bought cabinets through DirectBuy. The price was ok but the service through them is terrible. You have to sign that you are responsible for everything and they can send you product with all kinds of mistakes. On both orders they shipped things that were not as per the drawings signed, then said, "Nothing we can do about it. We will give you a credit." That is only good if you have another easy source for a custom made part.
While fixing the mistakes the job will drag on and on for months. They do not care as you have already paid up front. They will make a claim to the company for parts that are wrong but that will take time. If you are paying a contractor to install, he will be back often and your kitchen will be partial complete. They are not responsible for any of these costs. You are not dealing directly with the manufacture and the person you are dealing with is only moving emails back and forth. Think carefully before using this service.

My husband and I and my brother and his wife joined DirectBuy in 2003. We were building a new house and we needed everything - doors, windows, carpeting and flooring. They were able to provide high-end appliances which I wanted. I built three houses and I've used them for all of them. I'm an interior designer and I used to go in and look at some of the merchandise when DirectBuy had a brick-and-mortar store. Now, it's everything online. Unless you're able to do your homework, it might be hard for the average person to shop online for large pieces of furniture that are expensive because they don't know what they are looking at in the quality. I tell my friends that they have to go to a store, see the brand and make sure it's on DirectBuy.
I have a new condo in DC and I'm having all the furniture done through DirectBuy. I just got a phone call from a delivery company and they're going to deliver a batch for me next Friday. They tried to fit it into my schedule which was very nice. Everyone has been very helpful. If they couldn't get what you want, they match it up as best as they can. We've had a very positive experience. My son and daughter-in-law are gonna join DirectBuy too because they're gonna buy a new house.

We've made a lot of purchases over the years that we've been members of DirectBuy and our experience has been the same all along. When we first joined, there was a center in Windsor which is within driving distance from LaSalle where we used to live. It was nice to have the showroom there so one could see all the samples. But now that we live on the Michigan border, we don't have a center close by so we started going to the one in Michigan to look at samples. But then that one closed as well so the closest one is in London which is two hours away.
Purchasing something through DirectBuy is easy and the quality of the products that we have received was great. The hard part is making sure that we have all our facts and that we are able to see color swatches before we put the order in, and making sure that we're matching up our purchases properly or that the way it looks online is actually how it is. We have go to other stores to do that and it's not always convenient. A lot of times, the other stores know about DirectBuy and they don't put the actual item or company on the item so we really have to know or hope that they have in stock what we're looking for. We have to be sure of what we're ordering because we can't return it. The initial warehouse had a lot of people helping customers place the order and looking up things but that's unnecessary. No one can help you other than showing color samples from different companies.

I was renovating and became a DirectBuy member. I've been a member for many years and I did tons of purchases with them including appliances and plumbing fixtures. Their percentage could be a little lower though and you need to buy a lot of stuff before you sign up. However, the purchasing experience is now wonderful. Before, it was awful. The quality of the products I received is also excellent.

Anyone looking at the cost savings, be aware they compare MSRP to theirs which is not what items truly sell for anymore. I have been a member for close to 10 years, I let it lapse last year until they offered me a renewal rate of half, and I regret even renewing at that. I don't know what rates they sell at now for membership, but I was 24 when I bought into the company at a 5k+ mark, and later at a 2k+ mark for their travel program, which is like the first, high pressure sales filled with unkept promises. In addition to those costs the renewal cost went from 100 a year, to 200 a year x2 because I had travel now, now my most recent statement is 300 to renew for this year for just the main account (I canceled travel after I lost "free" vacations that I was told didn't have expiration dates).
What the company originally was was great, there was a staff you could speak with, designers that would help you pick out items that complimented your home, and would price match everything before they even wrote up an order for you to sign. Not to mention a single stop shopping experience where you could look at items in person, there was value and service that was, to me, well worth the original 5k+ cost. Now I get to travel about 200 miles just to look at 2 different tile companies, and 2 different bathroom showrooms to look at items I may like.
Since they closed down all of their showrooms, and moved to only Internet sales, they just plain suck. They don't price match automatically, you have to find better deal and wait for days while they confirm with their contacts that they can attempt to price match, in the mean time the deal you are trying to price match may end before you get an answer and would be stuck paying a higher rate... But they sell at "direct from Manufacturer prices" that is comical as any simple google search will find prices that beat them all the time. Unless you are buying furniture and lots of it, there is absolutely no value in this club, as there are online stores that after price match they still can't beat because they price match before Shipping/Tax/Handling costs.
I have spent over 40k on renovations to my house this year, of which 23k roughly was spent on merchandise I should be able to buy thru this club. Not only did I find better prices online, I found much better service thru the sites I purchased from. Lightning fast delivery compared to the 4 - 12 week time frames this company gives. In the past year I have made a total of 3 purchases, of which my last one is now on week 9, and I just received an email that it isn't expected until mid october, so I will now be canceling and buying elsewhere. Which brings my total purchases down to 2, both of which had to be price matched because direct buy prices suck, and often are beat out even at the retail store price.
In regards to their Travel program, if you are a member don't fall for their Travel program. Most if not all trips that I or my family took we were able to find better rates thru Travelocity, Trivago, and Priceline type of websites. Or if you are a Costco member, they have much better rates as well. They will try to lure you in with, "The cost is mitigated by the free trip vouchers you get." What they don't tell you is the "resorts" you have access to are timeshare properties and make you sit thru (for me was 4 hours) of high pressure sales pitches about owning a place that you will still get to pay 200 a night to stay at rooms. If you don't travel much they will tell you the vouchers are good anytime and don't expire (you have 2 years to use them or lose them). They also definitely don't let you know it carries with it a 2nd renewal rate for membership.
Just do yourself a favor and stay away from this company, outside of furniture they haven't offered me a single product I wasn't able to find online for around the same or cheaper than they were, most of those stores also don't have to charge taxes or shipping. Let alone everything your purchase carries a 8% handling fee the club charges to allow you access to these "direct from manufacturer prices". Just to put into perspective, even if an online store isn't item cost cheaper (most of what I bought this past year was cheaper at the item) Online store 170.00 no shipping no tax, receive it within a week Direct buy 150.00 + 22.50 shipping +12.00 (8% handling) + 10.33 sales tax = 194.83 (real recent purchase cost) (at 9 weeks and received notice it at best will be mid October to receive it).

When we were buying our first house, DirectBuy seemed like a good deal and a good way to buy products. Now, we’ve been members for over 20 years and we've mostly bought home furnishings like patio furniture and also some wedding gifts, like crystal things. We also had a big purchase ‘cause our house flooded after Harvey so we needed to replace most of our furniture. We purchased furniture for several rooms, bar stools and a coffee table. The experience has been very positive and we really liked their newer online system. You can search online, look for what you want and see what it costs. But although they might have a couch in five different colors, you don’t see them all together when you're looking at the couches. There are some small user interface things that could be improved. But generally, the site is good.
I would recommend DirectBuy for someone who is planning on making big purchases. If you’re not gonna use it for something big, you’re not gonna see the same kind of savings. Still, it's very reasonably priced. Even though we didn’t buy anything for many years in a row, we still feel like we’ve gotten value out of it. The quality of the products has been excellent as well.

Most of the time I go to the club of DirectBuy and order, but I wish they would have more diverse product options online. It doesn’t appear as though they have everything on there but I've stayed with the company for a long time because of the price and the quality of the products.

We were renovating and we've purchased everything about construction stuff, windows, doors, ceramics, furniture, kitchens, and bathrooms from DirectBuy. We live in Ottawa, so I like the fact that there is a show room that we can go to and we can speak with a live person as opposed to doing everything online. It's good as well with the companies that they have in Ottawa that we could go to. And the quality of the products is good. The only thing that I don't like is trying to find something in a brochure since it's difficult to see what it's like in the picture as opposed to seeing it in person. So I go out looking for what I want in a store, and then I go to DirectBuy to see if they have it.
DirectBuy membership is expensive, so it's not for everyone. Our projects are coming to an end so I'm not sure whether we will continue to pay the annual membership. I would also recommend them to friends, but they have to make sure that they're gonna use it to get the benefits of the membership. Unless they're doing a big project, I wouldn't think it's worth the membership. Nonetheless, we've been members for 10 years or more now and it's been good particularly the last couple of years.

We had three young boys and we needed furniture and appliances. We also renovate houses and we thought DirectBuy was a good thing to get into to get some better deals. But one time, I bought a kitchen table and chairs and there were so much online. I was really overwhelmed. So I just watch for the deals. When the catalog comes out, I purchase stuff from the sales there, which is nice. Their website may not be as user-friendly as some sites I’ve been on but it’s got a lot of options, more than I expected to have. In fact, there’s so much available through DirectBuy that we weren’t able to utilize everything but we sure try to.
We renovated our own house and purchased appliances, a bed, couches and flooring. We bought barbecues and TVs too. The products we've bought from DirectBuy are lasting as long as anything else that we would’ve bought. We've been members since about 2000 and I would highly recommend it for someone who's got a young family and is needing stuff for their house, is remodeling their house or building a house.

I've been a DirectBuy customer for eight years. We have built an entire house and we bought everything from exercise equipment, lighting fixtures, water fixtures, and faucets. The biggest thing we bought were all our cabinets which were beautiful. And also, we were just fixing to order a whole house back-up generator. The items I purchased were directly from the manufacturers. I would have bought appliances or kitchen appliances, but the local appliance dealer here matched all the pricing. And by doing that, they also service them. I saw the long-term benefit of having the actual provider of the appliance carrying the maintenance on them as well.
When we first got in DirectBuy, they had local warehouses that you would have to go in and go through volumes of books to find what you wanted. You would have to camp at the showroom and go through their library. It was not online and it was insane. Then, they upgraded and went to the online website. Navigating of the site since has improved greatly and has become a lot simpler.
They still had local people that would come out and talk to you about your cabinet program and looking at your layout. We had someone who had her own business and it was an absolute nightmare. I had sat down over at Lowe's where they had their cabinet center and since I designed my house, I knew all the dimensions. I knew exactly what I wanted as far as layout. After a month, this girl still didn't have a preliminary design for me. And she was running up costs because she wasn't getting it done and she had to re-address things.
I called and talked to the supervisor that oversaw that department in DirectBuy and explained I was very, very unhappy and why. I sent her copies of all our correspondence and why it was a mess. She quickly turned this over to Jeff. I sent him everything I had and in less than a day, he had all of the design work and AutoCAD done. Everything was back to me for review in a day. He's an absolute pro at doing cabinets and he just blew my mind. He was probably one of the most efficient and talented subcontractors. The man knew his job inside and out and did it all via the internet because he was out at Florida. Everything went in absolutely perfect.
Also, I started a project when we just moved into our house for six months. DirectBuy was under an old business format and everything was fixed four to eight weeks from purchase to delivery. But they have addressed and got expediting shipping. Now, I just purchased some fitness equipment that showed up in a week. So, they're making some changes but you have to be a little bit more patient. There are plenty of really big savings that could be had through DirectBuy. I was able to find some competitive pricing. I have a chandelier with an enclosed housing with a fan inside of it. It's the same manufacturer that I saw at Progressive Lighting. It was always $400 less. And I saved probably $30,000 on my cabinets. The savings was just phenomenal. We have other properties that we may think about building a ski place out in Taos by New Mexico and for that reason, we will maintain our membership.

We have been a loyal DirectBuy customer for over 10 years. During that time we have purchased beds, 5 Kohler faucets, 6 new toilets, granite countertops, chairs etc. We always received our materials in the time given by DirectBuy sales staff. Now we ordered a new bedroom set from Conrad Grebel Furniture Company in the first week of April 2018 and were told it will take 12 weeks to receive and have the additional "White Glove Service".
After all this time DirectBuy customer service is giving us the same run around excuses we got a month ago. The bedroom set was made in Indiana but shipped to North Carolina for consolidation. Now they are using the excuse they don't have drivers to go to their warehouse in Freedom, PA. If they picked up in Indiana they could have easily drop shipped in Freedom, PA because that would not have taken them out of their way by at most 100 miles. Now that the bedroom set is in North Carolina they are saying it will take another week or 2 before it goes to their Freedom, PA warehouse. BUT that doesn't mean they will then load it for "White Glove Service" so who knows how long that will take.
By the end of this fiasco I'm estimating we won't see this furniture of another month or more. DirectBuy has already ruined why we needed the furniture and we don't really care if we get it anymore. As a matter of fact we would just rather CANCEL the order and get our OVER $3,000.00 back that they have had since APRIL! We are looking at completely renovating our home and at this point DirectBuy would be the last place I would use! Very dissatisfied customers.

She was very pleasant and efficient, and within minutes my order was processed and confirmed by email. Marcia made the order simple! I saw an advertisement for DirectBuy a long time ago and we were under new construction of our home at the time. Mostly, I bought furniture, lighting, kitchen and bathroom faucets, carpets, area rugs, patio furniture and virtually everything. We also got my kitchen appliances twice because we put in the kitchen and after a few years of just being a rec room, we put in a kitchen downstairs. So the appliances we ordered upstairs went downstairs, and I ordered new appliances for my upstairs kitchen. We also did my kitchen and bathroom cabinetry through DirectBuy.
I partnered with the paint company in my neighborhood and I got the paint from DirectBuy which was the preferred vendor so it was not all out of the catalog or online. I also got light and plumbing fixtures over the past couple of years. I wanna go to the club and I was helped through the concierge desk recently to do an exchange return. It was absolutely effortless and if there's any such thing as over communication, it was like I was updated on a regular basis. I was told about where my piece was, is along the route, maybe North Carolina to Canada. And then the refund couldn't have gone better.
I wouldn't necessarily order anything cheap by brand name or quality-wise for my homes and I know that DirectBuy has good reputable names in terms of their suppliers and vendors. All the products are quality and well made and you have to do your research on the price. Unless you are doing a renovation or had lots of purchases to make in your future whether you were moving or renovating or building a home, DirectBuy would be worth it.

We joined DirectBuy almost 30 years ago when we lived in Dallas and they had a showroom full of catalogs. We looked at some items and compared what they would cost at stores and it was a good deal. I paid $900 to join 30 years ago but we didn’t have to pay anything for the first 10 years. We got good prices and big discounts not on everything but on lots of things especially furniture. In those early years, we bought couches, an entertainment center and we furnished the baby room. I would also occasionally buy Christmas gifts such as pots and pans. We also got a good deal on a bunch of cabinet trays through them.
We joined the travel program a couple of years ago and that was the big bust for me. We didn't do anything good with that and we didn't feel like we got our money's worth. I was super disappointed with the travel piece. Every time I called about something, they tried to upsell me and tried to get me to pay more. They would tell me to give them another thousand dollars and I would get this free weekend of whatever. I can't generally pick up and leave on a day's notice, so for me, I do just as well, going through Sam's or Costco Travel.
Right now, I have to pay about $200 a year to stay as a member. We used to go to their showroom and it was never anything more than a catalog but there were people who could help us find what we were looking for and they helped us do the ordering and all that stuff. Recently, they closed their showrooms and now it's all done online. They have a concierge service but I haven't bought very much recently. The last thing I bought was a faucet when we remodeled our kitchen but we bought $20,000 worth of cabinets and stuff through there. When we moved another time, I wanted the same faucet, and I called their concierge shopper and she was able to find my old order and ordered me the same exact faucet. So, they've been pretty helpful. I buy all the branded stuff. The faucet that I have is a Delta and they have their own brand of kitchen cabinets but it's the same one you will get at Home Depot. They have their own name on it.
I have suggested DirectBuy to people over the years. But you have to always verify and see what it's gonna cost you from the club and then go to Best Buy, Sears or wherever and compare the prices. When you go shopping online now, it would be a good time to go to the manufacturer website to find the item. But I've been happy with everything that I bought through them. It’s for everyone and I have no complaints about the quality of the items. I would recommend it if you can afford it and have a lot of stuff to buy. If you're not gonna buy a lot of stuff, that may not be worth it but if you're buying a new house or remodeling, they have some really good deals.

We had some damage to the fabric to our Rowe Sectional (Chaise) in our vacation home and also to our Klaussner's Power Reclining frame for my primary residence. Klaussner is no longer participating with DirectBuy which made things more complex. Your wonderful Representative, Mahogany in your corporate call center in Indiana was not only charming, understanding, but highly proactive and efficient. She explained what I needed to do in terms that I could easily follow, emailed me with all the paperwork I needed to pursue my issue directly with Klaussner and the extended warranty issue with Montage and did all of it with charm. Being conscientious of my time, she promised to call me back when the emails and PO's were sent rather than keep me on hold. I have never had anyone call me back to double check that I received everything they sent. Fantastic!
I own and operate an award-winning business in California. I have strict standards of what I believe is excellence in Customer Service. Mahogany surpassed all of them! It is so refreshing in this day and age to find someone in service who does what they say they are going to do without you having to call and remind them numerous times. I hope you know what a rare gem you have in Mahogany. People skills with intelligent, proactive and efficient business skills are hard to find. I would steal her from you if I could! The fact that she is so excellent speaks volumes of her work ethics and of her Manager's skills as well. As a busy business Owner, my time is precious to me. I liked the savings you get out of being a member of DirectBuy. I heard about them through a friend and I signed up with them since around 2000. So far, I bought a deep freeze, the area rug, and some furniture from their clearance center. I had a really good purchasing experience. However, I'm lazy so I had difficulty in knowing brands and having to go to a store when I wanted a closer look at the furniture I was purchasing. The process can be tedious and you have to put more thought into it when you're going through DirectBuy, which is a very good thing because you're not spot buying. It's just that I'm typically a spur of the moment shopper. All in all, being a member is a good investment. And if you want to get a high quality product at a decent cost, you go to DirectBuy. All the items that they sell are high-end.

Ami ** was courteous and contacted me through email. However finding out information has been slow. Not due to Amy. I have spoken to 3 different people regarding this order (KitchenAid). 1st I was on hold for 35 min but received a phone message later that there was some technical problems. The fellow that left me the message was very courteous and explained the reason. 2nd I called back and spoke with another operator that could not provide me with a depot on Vancouver Island until I actually placed the order. Placing a order should not take 4 or 5 days to find information regarding price and delivery.

When I ordered my furniture the estimated delivery was four weeks. Later I discovered that was the shipping date. It has now been 7 weeks and it is, as I understand it, still at the Freight co and they can’t even promise it to be shipped next week. DirectBuy said they would wait until they have a truck load. I paid shipping and wasn’t told it could be 4 weeks to 3 or 4 months depending on the truck load. I was pleased with the price but I have ordered several thing cheaper due to tax and shipping from other suppliers. Beware. Not what they used to be.

I've been a DirectBuy member for 12 years. I liked the idea of buying merchandise at a reduced rate and also, we liked that DirectBuy is on the upper scale of things. They don’t sell cheaper stuff. We just ordered a whole new kitchen, the fridge, stove, dishwasher and microwave from them. And we’re waiting for it to show up. We also bought a flooring, some bedding, the bed and appliances from them. What we got from them are all brand name stuff, and even above stuff that you normally wouldn’t see in a normal department store. There are names in there that people have never heard of, and that’s because it’s more expensive.
We have compared DirectBuy's prices to stores. You always want to make sure you are getting a deal, and they seem to beat the others all the time. Everything we’ve ever bought from them was always cheaper. And where I live, DirectBuy doesn’t have a showroom anymore. And we do our shopping online, and through a personal phone call. And since we’ve lost our local showroom, they’ve been more helpful. So I think losing the showroom was actually a good thing. Now, it’s like personal service which is nice. You can almost call them almost anytime you want. Overall, DirectBuy is getting better with age.

I signed up with DirectBuy 10 years ago, but I only stayed as a member for my initial first year when I was doing a remodeling in my kitchen and bathroom. I needed new appliances and it was a great deal. And back then, the membership was expensive and it was like $5,000 a year. But I got a $60,000 kitchen for under $20,000. So my $5,000 was well spent. It’s not nearly that expensive now but they’ve changed.
And then recently, they were trying to move back members with a six month special. And I’m just finishing up remodeling my basement, opening up an Airbnb and I needed a few things. So I signed up again and it’s been great so far. I’ve only received one product so far and were extremely happy with it. We initially bought quite a bit of our furniture for Airbnb directly from a nice furniture store here in my town called EQ3. We had a nice sale, 25% off. And we got it and we were happy with it. I found out later through DirectBuy, we could have ordered the exact same furniture in a 50%.
For some reason now in Canada, it's hard to find bamboo floors. If I was willing to drive to Toronto which is six hours away, I would be able to find some there but not here. And direct through DirectBuy, I can get some good quality bamboo floors. I will only save 5%, but for me, it’s more than just the savings. It’s the fact that I can get it delivered here for basically free. So the convenience of it has been very good. They used to have this huge showroom and I miss it. But because they’ve eliminated all the showrooms, they’ve been able to get their membership prices down to where it’s actually reasonable now. The six months trial will be up in October, but we’ll probably extend our membership another year.

My husband and I were planning on building a house so we joined DirectBuy to get all the discounts. We've been members for nine years now and we got a DirectBuy travel membership so we’ve gone to the Bahamas. The membership was quite expensive, but it works in the wash at the end. We have also purchased two vehicle flooring. Purchasing is easy if I do it online but some of it is a pain if I have to go into the city to order because we live two hours away from Calgary. Nonetheless, they have good quality products for a fairly decent price. So, DirectBuy is worth it.

I live in a condo where there was a DirectBuy in the industrial park right across the street from my house, but it closed a while ago. I used my membership when I bought some rental properties in the Outer Banks and furnished those. Most of the stuff I bought were furniture, home flooring, and lighting. I also did a kitchen at one of my properties.
Before, it was inconvenient to order from them because I had to go pick the item, then drive to their store and take it. But I recently ordered something from their Ocean City store and I love that they’re dropping it off. I went through a store where that got problematic and a lot of stores were matching the price of DirectBuy. So, I kinda laid off of the furniture purchases for a while, but I’ve since I started using them again now that they deliver. So far, the products that I got from them are good quality and I’ve not been unhappy with any of the major purchases that I’ve made. I submitted questions too, like when they'd send the exclusive things and things like that. Plus, I like it when they send the messages about what’s on sale online. But when it comes to prices, I have to really do my homework. Sometimes, it is better to buy from them. But in other times, when I have to do the shipping and handling, it doesn’t come out cheaper.
Recently, I was speaking with somebody at DirectBuy since I needed the bedroom set I ordered for my place at the shore delivered down there on Friday night. I wanted it by a specific day, so, I called a couple times and they were really good about following up and telling me exactly where it was and when it was coming. Now that I have DirectBuy, I wouldn’t let it go. I would also recommend them. But if you are to join, you have to use it. You have to do your homework and you have to know what you want because the items are still pictures. They also have the travel piece, so if someone’s interested in that, they have it.

I bought a lot of stuff from DirectBuy for my previous home. I changed my home recently and I also bought all the stuff for this house from them. My purchasing experience was excellent. They have a very good pricing and it's very easy to find products that I'm looking for. But they don’t carry some products that I want to buy. They should have more companies and more products especially in appliances. Other than that, I’d recommend them. And if people would ask, I'd tell them to join DirectBuy immediately. If they need some very good pricing, they should go for it.

We used DirectBuy years ago when it had a location in Kingston. We were doing a big renovation then and we bought a lot of stuff from them. We just moved and we’re doing another renovation, and I got an email asking if we would like to try them for six months for $60. I said, “Sure,” so we’re working on this renovation with them now. We've purchased flooring and things for bathrooms and kitchens from them and it's been excellent. The last quality of all the stuff I bought before was amazing. But I’m not good at buying online and if we had a location here, I’d be buying a lot more stuff there. Right now, we’d have to drive two and a half hours to do that.

I kept hearing these things about cheaper stuff at DirectBuy 11 years ago and we thought that since we can use DirectBuy for the cottage and for the house, it might be something to look into. My dad was a bit of a shut-in so the house wasn't really cut up too well. So after he passed, my mom decided to fix the house. I had also just bought a cottage that was bare naked empty. I knew I had to do some major renos on it. So my brother and I went to DirectBuy's open house and listened. It sounded good so we joined and DirectBuy is worth it.
We needed a lot and there was a good deep discount. We redid both roofs and we bought the materials through DirectBuy. I bought the hundred-year fiberglass shingles and they were about $18 a bundle. If I had to go to a box store, they would have been at least $25 a bundle. It's good savings. We also redid the bathroom at the cottage and that entailed a tub, a shower, a shower head, toilets, a sink, cabinets and countertops. We redid the kitchen and that involved a sink, countertops and cabinets. Then in the house, we redid the downstairs' bathroom so again, we got everything that involves a bathroom. We also bought washing machines for both the cottage and the house, as well as seven mattresses and four box springs. Somewhere along the way, I bought a few little appliances like a coffee maker.
I also bought a paddleboat but unfortunately, the quality is a hit-and-miss. When the paddleboat arrived one of the backboards was all scratched but I'd already gotten it at home. The Whirlpool washing machine that we bought for up north had a plastic or nylon collar around the outside and it was all shredded too. But it had already been delivered or picked up and inspected. I also bought a couple of cover doors for the bathroom and they were warped. Unfortunately what I did for a lot of the cottage purchases was to put them in the cottage until my older brother, who was helping me redo it, came up. So by the time we unpacked the covers and noticed the issues, it was about three months after. The damage doesn't impede the use of the product but it was a concern aesthetically. But most of the time, the quality's good.
The only thing is it's a pain when you already have to pick the stuff up. It's okay if it's a little thing but we bought a mattress for the cottage and we're both half an hour away from where the pick-up point's gonna be because DirectBuy closed down a whole bunch of their outlets. I used to deal with the one in Barrie and the one on Overlea Boulevard a lot but they were both closed. A lot of the stuff I've ordered has to go through Barrie. There is some holding company in Barrie but I still have to drive there to pick it up. They deliver but they're quite expensive. I bought two mattresses from DirectBuy last year and it cost over $100 to deliver.
I also had one unfulfilling experience when they had some big plumbing show in the spring. But when I got there, I found out that I'd have to order the shower fixture that I wanted through DirectBuy. They didn't have it at the plumbing company. So I left all my information with one of the salespeople from DirectBuy. He said that he would call me the following week and we could do the purchase over the phone but he never called me back. I ended up waiting about two weeks and then I found the company. I told them I wanted to order the item and asked why they didn't call. Maybe my paperwork was lost but other than that it's been good. That was the only bad time I ever had.
The customer service is quite good as well. I've started dealing with the chat line because there's always been questions. For example, I wanted to replace one of the bed frames that I have at the cottage and they had one on their sale page. But I couldn't tell from the description if it was the headboard or the footboard. So I wrote an email to the concierge and they wrote me back, saying that the thing they advertised on their webpage had been discontinued. Then they gave me the comparable one that the company was offering. I was all set to order it and I would have been annoyed if I ordered it, paid for it and found out a week or two later that I wasn't getting that. So that was helpful.

We were making decisions to do a large kitchen renovation and backyard. When we did the math, we saw the benefit of becoming a DirectBuy member because we were doing everything. So, we decided to become a member and we've been members for two years now. We paid a lot more than what most people are paying now to become members. There has been a lot of stuff that we did with them. I got cupboards for my kitchen project, I bought flooring tiles and a hot tub. I also got countertops through Caesarstone and Hunter Douglas blinds. Everything has been fine, so far.
If I’m looking for something, I always go to DirectBuy first. I always know that if I do find what I’m looking for, I’m gonna get the best price and best quality. Their products are as good and as secure as anything you’re gonna find and their pricing is always better. I've shopped for items online and then I phoned their concierge if I needed assistance. But I’ve gone in the showroom for most of my stuff. They had an event before where you would be able to see the manufacturers and talk to them. We did go there and bought a washer and dryer, but it had to go back because that was at the time when DirectBuy was reconditioning itself in Canada and they ended up cutting ties with LG. So, that got credited back to us. We got the hot tub though and the barbeque. We are travel members too and I’ve done tons of stuff with the travel.

I've been a DirectBuy member for nine years and I like it a lot better now because I can do it all online. At the beginning you had to go into the store and that was the pain in the derrière. So, now that I can do it on my laptop, it’s so much easier. I've bought a two-bedroom set, a living room set, some appliance and cookware from them. The cost is huge savings, and it’s nice to know that you can buy products direct from the manufacturer for the same price that DirectBuy is paying for it. The only bad thing is that you can’t always try what DirectBuy sells before you buy. I bought $7,000 worth of living room furniture and I wanna try them. But I had to drive two hours to find somebody that had a Parker Living sofa that I could try.
I also ordered a piece of luggage that somehow took three and a half months to get here and multiple phone calls. It came in two days before my trip, which didn’t make me happy because I wanted it before that. I'm also having the same problem right now. I’m building a new house and my sink has been on order for four months. I understand that it happens. But once they solved it, everything was good.

We became members of DirectBuy for the potential savings on a new house but I dropped it 11 years ago and then I signed with them again last year. In our initial purchase, we bought about 17 appliances and a bunch of smaller stuff which cost between $25,000 to $30,000. Their reps were very helpful and followed-up with any questions with a written quotation by email.
When buying from them, I check online for something that takes my fancy and then check with the concierge department to look at pricing and delivery. But I got some quotations from DirectBuy and it was so far in the left field that it was almost a joke. Still, I will be placing some orders in the next one. But they're old national brands. Also, I booked something and it was gonna be $6,000 more for a cruise. I was surprised and I expected better pricing but it was way more than what I could have gotten myself. What they were offering was useless. I haven't or won't buy anything that isn't fairly regularly available outside of DirectBuy. If the quality of DirectBuy is dependent on how many things somebody was buying or intended buying, then it's good.

The furniture that we had were older and yard sale stuff and we were finally gonna buy a new home and furnish it. We bought furniture and floors from DirectBuy and the experience was good. We had a few ups and downs but the staff was helpful. The stuff I bought has held up amazingly well, it was much better than just going to retail and a lot of it has been with me for eight years. I would definitely recommend DirectBuy to somebody who is going to do a large purchase. If you go and buy something at Walmart versus DirectBuy, you’re paying the same amount but you’re not replacing your item as often so you are saving money. The quality of the purchases that you’re getting surpasses what you would buy traditionally. You’re going to the brick, to Leon’s, you’re doing whatever and you’re replacing that every three to five years. You’re gonna get more for your money and the membership fee is worth it in the long run, 100%.

We went to an open house and learned more about DirectBuy and we had to make a choice about whether we wanted to join that day. When we stated working with them, they had some good manufacturers. I wasn't familiar with some of them because they weren't always Canadian and sometimes they had American manufacturers but we've always received good quality. We bought a variety of things ranging from shutters, rugs, furniture down to a stroller. We made smaller purchases as well.
I had shutters that broke that I had to have replaced through DirectBuy and I inquired from the customer service reps whether or not something was available that was not listed in the catalogues. I found the reps responsive and I haven't had any trouble with them. The cost of the membership is fantastic and we've been members long enough that I don't know what the original cost was. It was probably cheaper then but it seemed expensive at that time when we got it. We made purchases for our home such as shutters and we saved probably $4,000 to $5,000 which was exactly its worth because they were high end shutters and so it was enough of a discount on those kinds of things. It definitely made up for the membership and now, the ongoing membership is a fraction of the original cost.
When we started as members, it was a little bit inconvenient because we had to go in and make an order there. There was a lot of going through catalogues, copying down the numbers and figuring out everything. At the time, they were listed in the books. It was a complicated costing formula so you'd have the price of the item and then they'd have to figure it out and sometimes they have shipping or handling cost. Also, sometimes there will be an exchange on the US dollar and so it was a lot more complicated which took a longer period of time. But now, I tend to shop on their online portal, which they have improved so that you can see the cost right away. They're included in the price so it's not as complicated.
These days, I purchase almost everything through the online portal and I like it. I found that very easy and it would be great if you would be able to know the choices that you have such as whether other fabrics are available or whether it's just what is there online. Sometimes, they have these special deals where there'll be limited quantities of something and so a chair may only be available in beige. And you got it on beige because it's that special color. Other times, it's available on other fabrics but you have to go in to choose. I've bought some of the things that were in the special price category and had great experiences with those. It might help me make a decision about it if I knew that there were other choices. But we've been members for more than ten years and overall, it's a good experience.

At that time I became a member of DirectBuy it seemed like a good deal and I had some money around so we went in to the showroom and walked around and said, "Okay, we'll try this out." It is a good deal if there's a lot of things you need to buy. But if there isn't a lot of things you need to buy, it's not necessarily a good deal because the membership fee is still quite high.
We've done furniture and redid our kitchen. For purchases you just phone them up or you do it online and I've done both. With the kitchen, we went into the warehouse and we talked to the people who were in-charge of that, to put together everything that needed to be done for that. Most of the time, everything went well. There were a couple of glitches with the kitchen, but it was a complicated project so it was to be expected. I'm very happy with the quality of the products. When it comes it's what it's supposed to be.

I’ve been a DirectBuy member for 15 years now and I've used them for just about anything. Purchasing has been good, though I just have to make sure I check my purchase when it comes in. Their deliveries have been either right on time or sooner. However, I don’t like that it’s so cheap now to buy into when I had to pay 3,500 bucks to get in. Now people can get in for under $500, so that ticks me off.

I’ve been a DirectBuy member way back when they had showrooms. We went down a showroom, gave them our six grand, and went on with life. I knew I was going to remodel my other house and the kitchen in my current house so I figured the price would justify what I was doing. I bought kitchen and cabinet tree for this house as well as for the other house. I also bought marble for this house, granite for both houses, and then I got more bathroom cabinet tree for this house. The quality of the items I got is top notch and I’m very satisfied.
I like going to the store better than I like doing online. Randy came out and did a design consultation, and then we picked out our cabinets. And when they had a store, I went down there, Randy was there and I told him what I wanted. I recommended DirectBuy when there was a showroom but now that there isn’t then it's a little tougher. I used to go down to the showroom on Tuesdays or Fridays once a month but at this point I wouldn’t know how to direct anyone who would ask me to DirectBuy.

I've been a DirectBuy member for about 8 years now and I'm in it for the savings. I've done renovations for the kitchen, bathroom, and basement, and I've bought pieces of furniture. However, purchasing online is not very accurate. I have to go through the catalog and there are just some samples, not everything. So, I have to get there and then go in some hub, go through the catalog and compare before I can order. The quality is okay. So depending on your level of competence and plan you have, you can save with DirectBuy. I recommend them.

I was a member of DirectBuy for 10 years and then after that membership was up but I joined every year after that. Years ago, they used to send out postcards all the time inviting you to come to this secret thing. It was very mysterious and there was a warehouse near me at the time, which is no longer open. It was on Industrial Way in Eatontown and the one that I eventually went to was in Edison, New Jersey.
I decided after many years to go and see what it was all about. My daughter lives with me at the time and her name is on my account. She recently moved but she’s still member and I joined. I was very impressed with what DirectBuy had. It was difficult to come and look at things. You go and look at the catalogs. Some things you look online, but most things you had to order in person at the warehouse. But the quality of the items was much better than you could get in Home Depot or Lowe’s. I decided to join and since then, I’ve purchased cushions for my outdoor furniture, furniture for different rooms, China, pots, knives and that kind of thing and it has been nice over the years. It’s paid for itself and I enjoy using it.
For instance, a few years ago, I decided to do my son’s bedroom over again in our house. Now my son is 47 and does not live with us for many years but comes home to visit. And we have the old Formica furniture from the 80's in his room. We have a very nice house so I decided to do his furniture over again. Also I was looking online and found the most gorgeous bed. It was the weekend. They didn’t have prices online so I looked in the online catalog and they said that there was a store around my area that sold that brand. I called them up and had no idea how much it was. The price wasn’t in the catalog. I had to call the warehouse. It was a weekend and they were closed on Mondays. So I figured, “Gee, it’s Sunday. Let me see if I could find out how much this thing is.”
I called the store that the manufacturer said carried their merchandise. I said, “I’m interested in this bed and I understand that you have it.” They said they did and they had it in stock, and I could come and look at it. And I said, “How much is it?” She said the manufacturer’s retail price is $10,700 for the bed, not the mattress, a queen size bed. And I said, “Oh, isn’t that nice?” She continued, “And we have it for $8,700.”
I said, “Oh, how lovely.” I said you gotta be crazy, you wouldn’t even spend that much money on a full bedroom set. So I called the warehouse on Tuesday and it was $2,700. So I bought from the manufacturer which was a self-sustainable forest in upstate New York. It was a really nice and gorgeous stuff. I also bought a side table, a night table and a dresser -- all different pieces from that manufacturer.
When I bought the dresser, the bed, an end table, a night table, plus a recliner chair from BarcaLounger they were having a special on. Everything cost me about the list price of the bed. And I ordered two lamps, one standup floor lamp like an apothecary pharmacy lamp, and a lamp that took about eight months to get but I loved it so I waited for it. But the mattress was another thing. Now that they had in their warehouse I went to look at it. They had them in a bedroom setup. And it was a very nice memory foam and it was a branded name and I looked it up. DirectBuy had it for $1,000. I looked it up on the manufacturer’s website and it was $2,500. I said, “Okay. I’m gonna get this thousand dollar.” And I paid for it. And two weeks later before the furniture was delivered, I got a call from the DirectBuy office, saying that they now had a special on the mattress and it was $600 and they were sending me a check back for $400.
I would always recommend DirectBuy to people who are building houses. I said, “I’m not talking about furniture, but you can get your flooring, tiles, marble, granite, cabinetry, moldings and everything including screws and nails. If you have a builder, they’ll deliver it to the street and the builder can bring it in." So it’s well worth it for somebody who just bought a new house or is building a house -- saving thousands and thousands of dollars.
But it’s difficult to find things. I was looking for office chairs for a waiting room and I didn’t know how to look them up. There’s thousands of them at DirectBuy, for all different prices. But there was no way for a more detailed selection and that’s a complaint that I have. To look through thousands of chairs, it takes hours. There are things that are more discounted than others. Like if you buy a name-brand appliance, you might get a few hundred dollars off and you might do better off buying it from Home Depot or Lowe’s. But the cabinetry specially if they have a special on it, like club exclusives, is very good and I like it. So I have to rejoin DirectBuy every year. I'm very happy with my selections and prices.
You can look-up a brand which is nice. If you see something in a store that you like, you check to see whether DirectBuy has that brand. They weren’t advertising what I was looking for years ago so I called them up and they helped me get it. But now they don’t have a warehouse anymore. Everything’s online, but it's fine. I had gotten prices for outdoor furniture which I never ended up buying, but I will eventually and it will be from DirectBuy.

My brother had a membership with DirectBuy years ago and he let it go. A couple of times, he got me stuff as a present and I told him that he couldn’t give me something anymore so I’m gonna get my own membership. I like to shop, the prices are so good and the service is excellent and so, I called DirectBuy. I was shocked. It was all affordable now and I’ve used it several times already. I joined a couple of months ago and I go online and browse around all the time. I got these emails and they said they caught me browsing.
My daughter’s getting ready to move so I want to get a couple more items for her soon. The quality of their products is excellent and I recently ordered a couple of things for a wedding gift. I also ordered silverware from BergHOFF and the packaging was all messed during shipping. They sent a new one and I sent them back the damaged package. The service from the vendor was prompt and courteous. Also, you can’t beat the prices and the professionalism of the people who assist you on the phone. It was great buying from DirectBuy and I have no problem.

Direct Buy staff did a wonderful job assisting me with my order. The problem started and ended with the delivery Company. Missed first delivery. Took 3 weeks to finally receive items and they were delivered damaged. Phone system never answered by person, leave messages never return calls.

DirectBuy called us a long time ago for a visit and we went and signed up. We moved quite a few times and we purchased vanities and lots of blinds which were cheaper there. We bought one entertainment center that was supposed to be higher-end but it didn’t last very long. We tend to buy most of our furniture where we can physically look at it, see it and touch it. So, furniture is tougher because you don’t wanna buy a couch from a picture. But we also bought beddings, barbecues and outdoors stuff. The quality and pricing are both very good but I have lately been disappointed that they want you to do more and more online.
I purchased two blinds for my house because I have two small windows where the sun comes through and my wife was worried about the floors heating up. I ordered and gave them all the measurements on an email on my smartphone and I sent it to them. They sent me back a form and I said okay. I had the blinds on a Monday and I put the brackets up on my windows. I grabbed the blinds and they didn't fit. I put my tape measure on it and they still didn't fit. It wasn't my fault that the blinds I ordered were too long. So, I sent an email asking them to help me. I told them my blinds were too long. And I looked at my original order and it said that they were this size and that's the size I needed. Then I got a message back from Megan, the manager. She said it was my fault because I approved the message that they sent. It was their fault but because I approved it, then it was my fault.
I phoned then emailed Pat. I did both again and also left a voice message. And then, finally, I got something back from Pat saying she was on vacation. So, I went back to the DirectBuy phone log and found Megan's number. So, I first sent an email to Megan then phoned her. Then, I emailed Megan again and finally got a message back. Those were three emails and three phone calls made, just to try to get a hold of somebody in the office. Because with Pat gone, Megan's all by herself.
I’m getting older and when I have to look at my smartphone for anything, it's difficult. Especially when you're trying to look at a document on smartphone to see if it's correct or not. So, I trust that the girls in the office which are both very good are not gonna make mistakes like that especially when the customer has given the correct size. I should have taken it to my friend's house and brought it up on his computer where I can look at it on a larger screen. So, I'm so waiting on that.
It was nicer then because you would go there and talk with them. But now, it's getting harder and harder to talk with any of them because there are so few of them. So, everything they want you to do is call, order it online and send them an email. If I could do this in person more often, there would be less errors because I would be right there with a physical person, not trying to push things through on my smartphone all the time for an approval. And as soon as they gave the approval back, it's a mistake I've made now. Even if it's their mistake, the ownership is on you now and I don't like that. That's not customer service. Now, my blinds are too long. They don't fit in the window and I got two blinds in the garage that I don't know what to do with.
I financed with everything they would tell us. I used to go to the store when you want it. But now, they tell you to do it online. I'm in my late 50's and I don't like doing stuff online. I like going to see people. I go to the bank still paying my bills at the bank because I think that's the way to do it in person where I can talk to the person about questions rather than trying to send an email to somebody and hope they explain it back to you. We've lost the actual customer experience which is my biggest disappointment with them. Otherwise, the products are always awesome.
The customer service initially was very good as well as the showroom. Now, everything just got smaller and smaller. We took it down to the coast to see my kids and my anterior store is closed. And the one next to the other anterior store is closed. There's only the one in Kelowna now that we go to and another one in Vancouver. So, we just have a few. I picked up the blinds at the DirectBuy location in Kelowna. I drove up and down the Enterprise three times, which is a big road that we have in Kelowna, trying to find it. I found that it was an IKEA delivery place and DirectBuy was just part of it. Also, there was no DirectBuy sign and it was difficult trying to find the place. The store wants the customer to be more self-reliant and the customer-DirectBuy representative experience is gone.I wouldn't recommend DirectBuy right now based on the blinds I ordered.

I bought some electronic equipment and was in a good position to be able to compare the price. And that convinced me to go ahead and join DirectBuy. Since then, I bought quite a bit of items from them. I built another house and most of the furnishings came from DirectBuy. The products I received from them are first rate. I do my homework upfront when I make my purchases so I know that I’m saving money and I'm getting quality for the money that I pay for them. It’s equivalent to going out on any local store and it’s easy to do a comparison. Recently, the local DirectBuy went into receivership and corporate took over, then there was a major change after that. Within the last year, things have improved by 100%.

I've been a DirectBuy member for many years now and purchasing online is easy. I just click on what I want and away I go. So, I've purchased beddings, sofas, tables, washing machines, doors, and all sorts of products. I bought hardwood floor as well and I've already arranged for the date when the guy would come to install it. The quality of the products is very good and I haven't had to take anything back yet. The people at DirectBuy are very helpful too. However, the new place in Calgary is so small compared to the other place and I got to go to the manufacturer to pick up. Other than that, I send many people there who have asked me where I get something from.

On 5/20/18, I purchased Brazilian teak hardwood flooring from IndusParquet via DirectBuy with a usual delivery time of "two to four weeks". By 6/22/2018, I received nothing from DirectBuy establishing a shipping date, a delivery date or the delivery company for the product that I paid for. I have made numerous telephone calls to DirectBuy and sent several emails. Each time I was told that a Jennifer **. was the person that handled flooring orders with IndusParquet and that my request would be made "her first and highest priority" and that she would call me back that same day.
To date, she still has not called back or responded in any way. The most recent time I called DirectBuy, I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that they were all in a meeting, but that someone would call me back the same day. Still - nothing. The only response I have received was a generic email response to my latest email thanking me for my inquiry and that the person (Sean) was looking into my order and would get back to me. How long does it take to see where in their process my order is? Why isn't the hardwood flooring well on it's way to my house (they stated there would be 2-4 weeks delivery time after all)?
It looks like I will have to stop the delivery of storage pods (to temporarily store the furniture and other items from the rooms that will be resurfaced) and will have to reschedule the installers since DirectBuy has been totally unresponsive to any of my attempts to communicate with them. Did they simply keep my $7,100 and not even process the order? Who knows since DirectBuy refuses to communicate.

We’ve been with DirectBuy for over 14 years now. At the time we had just moved into a new townhouse and we were looking at buying many things. If you’re going to get discount and stuff, maybe one time investment, it makes more sense to have access to so many things online. We have been actually using DirectBuy every year now. And every time we’ve moved it has come in really handy. But they are now for some things, like gifts and stuff. There was a time when we thought if that’s the right decision but we are happy with it. I’m glad that their shopping concierge improved a lot lately, and that’s been good that the customer service is great. But their website is sometimes really slow and it just takes really long, but that has improved.

My experience is continuing to be just awful. I ordered a vanity, vanity top, mirror, and linen closet back in March, yes March... they originally said it will be about 6 weeks so we figured that's ok we will have the remodel done prior, the remodel is done and no sink vanity or linen closet. DirectBuy keeps lying to us and saying 2 more weeks, 7-10 more days, 7-10 more days only after we have to keep calling them, they never ever have kept us informed, my husband said they told him the vanity and top will be in Saturday, we were so excited...
I called to verify and they told me NO none of the pieces are even shipped from the main office and it will be 7-10 days for the vanity but don't know how much longer for the linen closet... basically we have been strung along, not kept informed and if they did say anything they would push the dates again, and again. We are very frustrated right now thinking maybe they needed to call us after we ordered and say, "Hey those pieces are going to take 4 months to get. Do you still want them?" But no nothing.

After ordering a bed and nightstand over 2 months ago the order shows up with wrong parts. Order a headboard frame and nightstand queen size. Showed up with king size rails to support the bed. They said it would take 3 to 5 weeks. After the fourth week they were unable to find it. The 5th week I found it but had to hold it because they had to inventory inspect the materials. Obviously they did not inventory north of the inspected another week. Originally was supposed to be delivered May 24th. Finally got delivered June 19th with the wrong parts. Now I have to wait to see how long it takes to get the correct size frames to fit in this bed. Not very happy with the service. Not very happy with the handling of it.

I ordered a dishwasher online the beginning of May. And I couldn’t get it to change the delivery location to Kingston, which should be our depot, so I called up DirectBuy and I spoke with them. They put the order in for me because they said that I couldn’t change the delivery location online. They had to do it. So, then he told me to cancel my order in the cart, which I did, because he said I would be ordering two dishwashers since he had ordered it for me.
I’m waiting for the dishwasher and it hasn’t come in yet. So, I called them again and because he told me to cancel my order, my whole order was canceled and I don’t have the dishwasher. My present one is leaking, and they sent me a new quote. They said that they can’t honor that price anymore and it’s almost $300 more. So, I am not very happy with DirectBuy right now. Their Kingston office went out of business, so now we're affiliated with the Ottawa office. And I don’t like how they moved our account to Ottawa. It’s not as convenient to shop there now.
We like to go in and look at the samples ourselves, but Ottawa’s two hours away. Other than that, the experience has been pretty good. We were about to undertake a number of home rentals before and we thought it was a good idea to get a membership at DirectBuy. We also have two apartments that we furnish. We could buy furniture for our place and the apartments. So, it worked out good in that respect. We have recommended them to many people.

My experience with DirectBuy has been okay except for the delivery. Many times, it was delivered later than I expected. In fact, I have an order right now that I haven’t received yet. They said it'll be delivered within three days but I haven’t gotten an email yet if the product is ready for pickup. But other than that, it’s okay. I like DirectBuy. I’ve been a member for a while about 15 years. It’s way different now than before. Before, there was an infomercial and the fee was really high. I bought a few things and then they discontinued. And I was offered to reinstate my membership and I’m glad I did.
Their website was good although I would prefer to see more details but it’s been okay, so far. Usually, if there’s an offer, that’s what I do. I get emails and then I look at the items on sale. So far, I bought a 75-inch Samsung, a bedroom set, a sala set and a few small things from them. I bought the Samsung speaker as well, which I got it at a good price. Before they release, they open the box right in front of you and show that the product is in good condition. And I believe that is a good practice. It's worth it being a DirectBuy member.

DirectBuy had an advertisement on TV 12 years ago and when we were doing a large renovation in our house, based on what we heard, we felt that we would save a lot of money than what the membership was. We got the entire house from them which included the entire kitchen, bedroom, dining room, living room and bathroom sets. The buying experience was a lot better when we had a showroom to go to. They closed their showrooms up here, so it makes it a little more difficult because you can't physically go in, and to dial and go through telex.
When I wanted to purchase a new bedroom set and I wanted to know the height of the bed rails for the bed from the bed to the top of the bedrail because I had a box spring and a mattress, it took two weeks to get an answer. I wasn’t happy about it because you're doing it through the concierge online. When I got the answer, they said it was between six and eight inches but when the bed actually showed up, it was a foot and that foot actually made a difference. My whole idea was if I would buy a bedroom set or not because I didn’t want to have to get rid of my box springs. I ended up having to get rid of my box springs, so I wasn’t impressed with that. But for the most part, we've had a very good experience.
I questioned whether or not we were getting seconds from the manufacturer because I've noticed things. The top of the stove that I purchased had some peeling on it and the drawers weren't quite straight in the bottom. So, I questioned whether or not we were getting the right product like the true, first selection or what has passed quality control. Also, the cost are now a lot more because the shipping is ridiculous. Sometimes, the shipping is more than the actual product.
People could purchase a membership, providing they were doing any type of a renovation over $15,000 because that's where you'll see your return on your investment. But other than that, they should walk away from it. If you think that you can get cheaper electronic packages for your family game room or whatever, you're not going to. There are certain things that are actually more money.
I have a license to get wholesale stuff as well as a designer and some of the stuff I can get much cheaper than what DirectBuy could get for me. So, that tells me that there is something not quite direct from the manufacturer. Since they got involved in a big lawsuit, it has taken a toll on the service and dollar side of it with respect to the products being shipped. They have a warehouse in my location but I have to go to a transport company and they're not open on a Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm or like we used to be able to do, so it's a little inconvenient that way too. I wish they'd have a full-time warehouse again and a full-time showroom in our location but they don't have showrooms anywhere anymore.

We've been DirectBuy members for years, and we built a house through them, and I’ve built two other houses for other people and they joined. We've bought kitchen cabinets, plumbing, light fixtures, and the whole banquet. So, we’ve saved a good bit through DirectBuy. We used to have a showroom we could go to and we missed that. They have looked through catalogs because not everything is online or hard to find at least. But it’s been good. I’ve been able to work with it. If I have any problems, the concierge service has been helpful. But sometimes I had problems with shipping. When I ordered a grill, the shipping was gonna be about $150 so I cancelled it. I then ordered a smaller one that weighed around 22 pounds, and they still wanted to charge the $150. I told them no and they should ship it through UPS. After a couple of day, they came back and said they could do that.

She made sure we had all the parts that were needed, called the vendor to locate items that were not listed and followed through and up with everything. One of the vendors has had a delay. I went to three different people who were DirectBuy members and asked, "What do you know? How long have you been a member? Is it worthwhile?" and a lady who worked at the drapery department in Sears said that she was with DirectBuy to buy draperies because the price in Directbuy was better for her than what she could get at Sears. So we joined and spent significant amount of money there over the years. And we're very happy with it. We had a fairly large house which we sold about four years ago. We moved to an apartment and bought a bunch of stuff again. We've been very happy with the things we bought from them. The quality was fine except for the carpet. But with the help of Steve from DirectBuy, we got it replaced.
But we're in the stage of our lives wherein we don't need anything anymore. In fact, for the last two years, we haven't bought anything even though we often still see something in the Quarterly magazine that was of interest. One evening, we popped in our particular branch and found out that Steven no longer owned it. We still walked in and felt like home when everybody knew and greeted us but nobody was there that we knew except for three people. It was not bad but a different feeling. My wife and I then thought, "Why do we need to continue to be a member?" We both called up at different times to speak to the member that was on the invoice or reminder. They both said the same thing that we didn't have to sign up then. Whenever we were ready to purchase, then we could pay the annual fee. There was a lot of very fair options.

We've been DirectBuy members since 2005. We were building a new home and had to buy a lot of things. They were located in Maple Shade back then and we had gone over, went through an orientation and decided that we were going to become members because we needed everything with the new home. They helped design the bathrooms and the kitchen and we picked out cabinetry, furniture and the appliances from them. We had a good experience. And with everything that we had purchased, we're very satisfied with them so far. We felt that we saved a lot of money and we got everything we wanted.
Then recently, I ordered a new sofa when I was looking at DirectBuy online. It was something that I've always wanted. I checked the prices and it seemed like I was still saving by going through DirectBuy. But I have to see if it would still meet the standard. The only problem is that DirectBuy isn't around here anymore so it's taking quite a while to receive the sofa. I ordered it in May but it's due in until around the 7th of July. Nevertheless, signing up with them was a very good idea.

When I was stationed in Kansas in 2013, I got my membership with DirectBuy. So far, I bought little things here and there, and finally I started being able to use the benefits of my membership here recently since I’m beginning to remodel my house. Purchasing online was really easy. I ordered an item and surprisingly, instead of taking four to six weeks, it was there in less than two weeks. So, that was pretty cool. However, I’m not thrilled about this concierge stuff. I’d rather have the showroom so I can sit down and go through catalogs because not everything is online. And usually, if I’m looking for some very specific items, I can’t do that online. So, I am upset that they're closing a lot of their showrooms.

I've been a member for eight years now, and I've purchased furniture, appliances, and bedding from them. Their website is easy to navigate and it's also easy to find the items that you are looking for. And the quality of their products is very good. Normally, the items that you can find are the higher quality items at a lower price which is good. I enjoy being a member and the services have always been good, and the people have always been very friendly and helpful. I'd tell my friends to definitely look into it to join.

We've been a member of DirectBuy since 2007 through word of friends who joined in Colorado and then we joined in Pittsburgh. We have an older home. We didn’t have any furniture for it and it needed updated bathrooms in the kitchen. The best way to do it cost-wise was through DirectBuy. They’ve done most of my big projects. When we first move in, I did my washer and dryer through them. And I also furnished my whole front living room through them which would have been a fortune if I had done it through a retail outlet. I was also able to get custom furniture in a much-reduced price. I also did all my rugs with them because I have all hardwood floors. I bought hand-knotted Chinese rugs. I'm in the middle of redoing my master bathroom and a small runout upstairs on the master bath. I also redid my kitchen. I’ve got all my cabinets, lighting, appliances and hardware through them.
Our buy-in for them was like $5,000 when we joined and I made that back in the first year. So it has been really beneficial to us to use them. The hardest thing is now they don’t have the service centers anymore. It’s hard to get samples. I used to be able to go in and look at the blocks. And they would have a designer. But now they have a designer come to my house and she was great. And they designed a cabinet for my master’s bathroom and the guy in Florida was great. So hopefully everything will come in right and I’ll still be happy. But whenever there was a problem in the past, they always fixed it. In fact, one of my cabinets came in from Brookwood that was broken and they fixed it too. It took an extra month or two but I got the right cabinet all completely redone.
The quality of their product is very high that’s why I like them. It’s much better than doing retail. And then if you go to a designer store here, they compete with that quality but then you have to pay designer store prices. So I’ve been very happy so far. I had no trouble but then I’ve been doing it for a long time. So I’m kind of use to the process. And I’m learning better how to narrow the search down. Sometimes when I put in "knob" in a certain finish, it doesn’t always come up with that all the knobs that are there in that finish. Every website has its little quirks.
But sometimes when I go to the actual manufacturer's website, gather information and go back to DirectBuy and put in the model number or the exact color then it’ll come up. So I found ways if I can’t always find it directly. So if you’re going to order it yourself, you’re going to spend a lot of time doing it, unless you pay a designer for her time to do it. For me, it works because I know how to do it. You have to spend a time if you want to save a money. Also if your house is already done and you only need to buy a bedroom set, don't join. But if you have to redo a home or if you’re building a home, DirectBuy is the best way to go. I’ve been very happy with them and I hope they stay in business for a lot longer.

I learned about DirectBuy because of my sister and decided to become a member myself to save money. I bought appliances mainly and the quality has been good. The prices are worth it. Just make sure you’re ordering the right thing because we ordered a gas appliance and then just before we got it, we found out we couldn’t put it in.

I first heard about DirectBuy from a colleague of mine. We were doing a renovation and they had really good prices. I purchased light fixtures and faucets so far and the experience was excellent. But the website could be better. It could be easier to filter products. We ended up going into the showroom and opening paper catalogs actually. So the website could be updated in my opinion. But it’s not horrible. Also the products are of very good quality. I would definitely refer DirectBuy.

I had or order a tub via phone as I could not order direct through DirectBuy. Our concierge was awesome. She was very helpful as I didn't realize there was parts that were not included with the tub with the initial order. I have you been a member since 2009. I had read up on them, and at that time, we had a store in Oklahoma City where we had access. I live about three hours away from there. We were going to do a remodeling job, and I felt like our initial payment into the company would pay for itself, and it did. I purchased furniture, tiles, and fabric. I also bought some light fixtures and I have used it when we used paint. Purchasing was easy, and the quality of the products have been good. However, when we started out, I was pretty persuaded there were many more companies to choose from, and I have talked to them about that. And what it came up with was in one catalog, it had a manufacturer, and then I said, “Okay. I’ll do that.” And they said, “Oh, we’re no longer with them".
I have complained about it and the lady said, “Well we do....” I said, “I understand that. But you used to have….” What has happened is that offerings have narrowed. I know that DirectBuy doesn’t have any control over that, but my question is, why? To give an example, for a little while, DirectBuy carried Highland House. They said, “For a limited time, we have this.” I then bought a $5000 bed for $1100. They don’t even carry it anymore. I used to run back and forth to Oklahoma City, and now the closest club that I can go to is six hours away now. If I had known Oklahoma City was going to close, I probably would not have done that.
So, if you’ve got a company that is an umbrella for several other companies, for the most part, what happens is, you can’t always have all that access. And this has been one of their really good companies, the Hooker Furniture. They have also Mor and Bradington Young, and two or three others. Then I went in and there was one company and it was a parent company to Caracal. Little by little, I just don’t think the quality is what it used to be. The quality has decreased over time. You buy something and later on, you wanna add to it, and then they no longer have that company. Part of what we bought into was to be able to do that. I invest in nice things. The products that they are putting out there on special may have been good 10 or 15 years ago and maybe that is their target audience. I expect too much from DirectBuy.

We’ve been members of DirectBuy for quite a while. We were doing a complete inside-out, upside-down home reno and even with their ridiculously high cost of doing, we still came out ahead. We got everything from flooring to furniture to appliances, lighting and all sorts of stuff from DirectBuy. We’re doing another reno now. We’ve renovated five bathrooms and five kitchens so far. We just finished buying all plumbing fixtures for yet another bathroom reno. And DirectBuy is very good.
I do most of the shopping online, but I also like to speak to the person they call their concierge so I also do it over the phone. And I find them super good to deal with. The quality of the product is also very good. What we do often is we look at a product online. We’ll find out who makes it and then we’ll go on to their individual website and get information. And then we’ll look for reviews so we also get some background information. If they have those products at showrooms close to us we will also go in and eyeball them physically. We’ve also purchased quite a few things without doing that as well. And we’ve always been quite happy.
DirectBuy is always very cooperative. We’re on the west coast of Canada and Vancouver is a huge city. But I live in an area called White Rock, which is a city on the seashore that’s about maybe a 45-minute drive from Vancouver. So the only place where we can actually pick up stuff at the warehouse is probably an hour-long drive from where we live and traffic isn’t great. You can arrive pretty cranky some days. But I find that even in the warehouse they’re just very pleasant and easy to deal with. And so it makes the whole experience a little bit easier. Nobody’s ever grumpy or nasty or short-tempered.
DirectBuy is a good investment if you're going to do a lot of purchasing. The fee costs $5000 here so for a lot of people that’s prohibitive unless they can afford that initial fee and it’s also going to pay off with their purchasing power afterwards. I would recommend them to a friend, providing that they would need to buy a lot of stuff. Otherwise, it’s not worth the investment because it’s such a big investment initially.

We recently ordered some nosing to complete our new floor from DirectBuy. Once the product was received we noted the colour was not the same as our flooring. Despite the fact that we mentioned this issue to the vendor they said it’s the correct one that matches with the one in the book. Initially we thought we could be out a couple of hundreds of dollars, however once we spoke with our sales representative Nathan ** he promised to look into this issue for us. I couldn’t believe it when he contacted us to advise the vendor would allow us to return it. DirectBuy does not usually accept a return unless it was damaged. I was thoroughly impressed with Mr. ** professionalism and promptness. Thank you.

We were renovating our house when I became a member of DirectBuy. A friend had told us about them and now I've been a member for about 13 years. I like being a member and I've always been satisfied. I've purchased a little bit of everything including for the kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, beds, and sofas. The overall range of products that are available, the quality of the items as well as the pricing are all excellent. Also, I always encouraged people to go and check them out. There was always a reticence for people to do it in the past because of the cost of the membership, but now that the memberships have been restructured in terms of costing so it's easier to send people that way.

We’ve been a member of DirectBuy for 15 years. We had bought a new house and I was looking to furnish it. I was worried about the transition over, but I’ve nothing but good experience with them. I have bought out their furniture and we loved the couch. However, I had a Sub-Zero I was looking to replace and they were sending me Whirlpool stuff. I thought that it was a disconnect. But it’s fine. I’m not unhappy with my membership. But I have found that the pricing is not always great. That is bothersome because by the time you check on all the other costs, sometimes it’s not worth it to do it so I pass on it. But for the things I have ordered, I’ve been very pleased. And for the $150 a year that it cost me, it’s worth for me to have the opportunity to at least check it out. And if you are doing some major renovations, I would recommend that you do it. But when my 10 years is up, unless they’ve greatly discounted that price, I won’t be signing back on again.

I had sent an email to Carla telling her we were getting ready to install my new five star stove top and being unable to find the manual/installation instructions. I had later in the day unpacked another part of the stove and found the manual. I forgot to send another email saying I had found the manual. This all happened during the weekend. But by Monday early morning, I had a response already from Carla saying she had already reached out to someone to get us a manual. By then of course, I realized I had forgotten to send her the second email to let her know I had in fact found the manual. I was still very impressed that by so early on the next business day of my first weekend email, she had already taken steps to help. Wonderful service! Thank you Carla!

This is our second round purchasing kitchen cabinets with DirectBuy. Since We first bought cabinets with Norcraft and were satisfied with the quality we decided to use the same company again for a rental apartment we have. Jah was our designer this time. She drove just over an hour to meet with us and help us design the project. She gave us a lot of attention, advising about the different cabinet details and the best design for our small space. She was also able to expedite the manufacturing of the cabinets due to the need to get the apartment back on the market, they were delivered super fast! Jah returned all our phone calls, replied to all emails and text messages promptly. Even after the cabinets were delivered and installed, our carpenter made a mistake with the crown moulding, and Jah helped expedite the replacement piece. She was a pleasure to work with!

We were doing a major remodel on our house about 12 years ago and we went through DirectBuy and we bought all of our appliances there. The membership was $5000 back then, and the amount that we saved on all the appliances, carpet, and granite pretty much paid for the membership. The membership amount has gone down to $300 a year and we save a huge amount on furniture through DirectBuy. And we also buy gifts for people through them too.
We've remodeled three houses since we've been members and we've used DirectBuy every time. Before we purchase anything, we go out, compare and shop. We find the actual model that we like, and 9 out of 10 times, we'll go to DirectBuy. Then we'll just order it and get it shipped to us. I went to Lowe's and Home Depot, and I shopped the model that I wanted for a washer and dryer. I wrote down the model number and found it on the DirectBuy website, and it was half the price there and it's the exact same product.
You get a lot more bang for your buck. You just have to be willing to do the research, and then come back and research it on DirectBuy. Sometimes they don’t have the exact model. So then, you might have to get a little bit different model with a little different features, but you still come out with so much more. We bought a stove, a dishwasher, and a refrigerator for the current house we’re living in, and they were at least 50% off. And then they were shipped right to our house. I would definitely recommend them.

The purchasing process has been really good, and the quality of the products has been excellent too. We've been a member of DirectBuy since 2008. We bought a new house and there were lots of renovations. Sometimes we have to double-check the price because it's not necessarily the right price, and we can find cheaper price elsewhere. Sometimes we have to go on site and double-check or ask the concierge to provide us the right price. It could be really helpful if they could also improve their website by having all the products online. But so far the products are of good quality.

We had a raw land in British Columbia that we were going to build a house on. We joined DirectBuy and we bought all our kitchen cabinets for our house from them. We also got a Heartland cook stove, washer and dryer, the separate pedestals for the washer and dryer, an Elmira oven, a KitchenAid fridge, and three wood stoves together with all the venting for them. All of those purchases were made simultaneously with building the house and over the years, we hardly used DirectBuy, except we recently ordered the cabinets for a bedroom suite which are going to arrive tomorrow.
Purchasing with them has been good and the products we received are high-end items. We used to use the showroom in Kelowna but they closed it down which kind of beat us off because we had to do our last purchase online. To me, when we were ordering the cabinets, it was more of a pain to submit everything online and going back and forth with them than to just sit down in-person with that cabinet designer like we did in the first instance. At the time, we paid our 400 bucks then she walked us through everything. And even though we did all the measurements, she went over what type of style of cabinets and the planning of the kitchen with my wife. So, we had a one-on-one in-person relationship. But this time, we found it more frustrating and the process seemed to drag on and on. We had trouble with our scanner for one thing and that created delays. But in the end, it all went well.
Other than that, we have referred friends to DirectBuy and on one occasion, one of our friends joined years later. Based on our experience, we told him that we got really good savings from DirectBuy. But after he joined, he told me that it was not as good as what we thought it would be. He wanted to get some high-end stuff and he couldn’t get more than one item. But he’s a building contractor, so, I don’t know what the deal is there.

Valerie, the DirectBuy Home Delivery agent, was excellent. She went above and beyond in helping us acquire our merchandise (O.W. Lee Patio furniture) from the warehouse in Las Vegas, which is the storage facility for DirectBuy members. The reason for the three stars does not directly have anything to do with Valerie or the customer service representatives but more so with the hassles and problems that I have encountered with the storage warehouse, which is a different business altogether.
I discussed with Valerie how the business model of their partner MXD is affecting DirectBuy"s bottom line and their relationship with their members. I would think that most members' concerns have to do with the time it takes to receive their merchandise, especially since we do not have a DirectBuy brick-and-mortar store. Although I was very frustrated with the hassles my wife and I went through in obtaining our order before Memorial Day, Valerie excelled in helping us and ultimately achieved our goal, so congrats to her and my wife and I appreciated her diligent services. Uniway closed and DirectBuy took them over. I like what I had with Uniway. It suited the needs I was looking for to do over the years. So far, I've been with DirectBuy for 15, 20 years now. We have purchased from them cabinets, furniture, counter tops, sporting goods, electronic. I probably have bought something out of every department and my purchasing experience with them had been above average. Not necessarily great, but not that bad.
It'd have been better though if they have a DirectBuy showroom in Jacksonville. I'm one of the old school people who wanna go look at it or talk to a live person if I can. Talking to a concierge service, sometimes there's been a miscommunication and we had to get it straightened out before we got the product. Nonetheless, their reps did a great job of fixing it. And the cost and the quality of their products were outstanding. Overall, DirectBuy is good for their niche market, but they have to understand that they need to have more show stuff to help people out in making decisions. However if you're with them a long time, you can save a lot of money.

There was a DirectBuy store in Cranberry where we lived and we enrolled several years ago. We redid his kitchen and I did my kitchen floors as well. And now, I did my townhouse in the hardwood and I’ve had a pretty good experience. Teresa helped me when I ordered my flooring and she was wonderful. I forgot a couple pieces that I needed to order and she got them ordered. I’m waiting for one more piece that my installer forgot to tell me and I just recently ordered that the other day through Teresa. She assisted me with that. Also, most of the time, the cost is pretty good, except sometimes the fees and the shipping make it not worthwhile. And the issue with buying online is if you want to buy a mattress or sofa, you can't sit on it and test it. Sitting on it is the whole thing and not being able to do that can be a problem because it's hard to determine if you like it. Still, if you're looking to remodel something, DirectBuy would be worth looking into.

DirectBuy had a store room when we joined. There was good customer service and everything was discounted. It was top quality, but it was lower priced. I've been a member for five years now. We make a purchase almost every year. In fact, we recently bought a liquor cabinet and my wife continues to look for deals. So far, everything we've received has been excellent. We've received China and it was very good quality. Others ought to look into DirectBuy too. They have to go and see what they have to offer firsthand, look at a catalog, go to a warehouse if there is one and ask for price comparison of things that they're interested in buying. They would't think it is a waste of time. In fact, it's just the opposite.

DirectBuy had a location close to us before. Furthermore, we liked the good quality of their items. So we became a member and have been so for 10 years. We liked that we could go look at the catalogs to find items that we wanted. We've gotten bedroom furniture, kitchen flooring as well as lights for outside from them. We've also purchased wallpaper and blinds.
However, I didn't like that their office is now closed so now I have to do everything online. It makes a difference when you can go into a store, sit down and talk to someone while you pick out items and they'll help you. Nevertheless, the cost is great and I would tell others that working with DirectBuy is a great opportunity to purchase a membership especially if they are doing a lot of things with their home and constantly buying things. We had a whole bunch or renos to do and we wanted to save money. Our first project was for the small house we moved into when we retired. We renovated the whole house from the top down and bought new appliances like fridge, stove, dishwasher and washer-dryer. That was our original incentive for going their way. And with the feedback of some of our friends that are members already, we went to DirectBuy. And from there, we also moved around quite a bit and we bought other appliances.
It was a little frustrating because I’m kind of a visual guy and the catalog experience at their locations in Hamilton is not that user-friendly. So we’ve adapted in a different way. We go to stores. We take a look at what we need and what we want, make model and then the pricing. And then we go compare. But you always have to go somewhere and pick it so you can see it. And you say, “Okay, that’s what I want.” We’ve got a whole bunch of books that we go through. And for a guy like me, that’s not very literate it was frustrating.
The quality has been good because it’s all the major makes, like Frigidaire’s and the Maytag’s. But I would make sure that others understand what they’re getting themselves into for the price because it’s very pricey to get into. For us it was $5700 plus $300 for membership a year so it is expensive. But if you’re gonna use it, the payback is there because we almost paid for it during our first project, from the difference. But you have to keep track and compare apple to apple.
So if you’re gonna buy a Maytag fridge, get the model number, get the price and go compare it to what DirectBuy can offer it for. And then start deducting the savings from that to justify the membership. Plus the other thing that kind of irked me was, all their products are high-end products. For example, I wanted to buy a barbecue and I’m not a big barbecue-er, but I wanted to buy a barbecue for around $500 and they couldn’t offer that because they have all the big high-ends that I know are $2000, you can get for at $800. But I didn’t wanna pay that much money for it. You save 30 to 50 percent. But if you’re still not willing to put that kind of money towards a barbecue that you’ll only use four or five times a year, that membership is useless.
I was satisfied with DirectBuy at the time when we bought it. But now I’m struggling to justify the yearly memberships because it’s costing us $300 a year and we don’t have a whole bunch to buy. So we’re trying to look at how we can pass this on because if we just drop it, we lose $5700. So we’re kind of trapped to keep the membership going just in case we need it, but we’re finding it harder and harder to pay the $300 a year because I’m retired now and also we don’t use it.

We’ve been DirectBuy members since 2007 and back in those days, we were fortunate enough to have a showroom and a club. Unfortunately, they closed it down and we really had been missing it. Our experience with them has been good, so we have decided to continue even though, after 10 years, it has become more expensive to stay as a member. We have had good service with them and the concierge shopping service has worked out really well. And they give amazing deals on products.
We went with DirectBuy because of the savings and we were doing more rentals and buying appliances and different things. We bought backsplash tiles, appliances, and furniture. We also renovated a whole bathroom and went through DirectBuy for different retail businesses. The quality of their products is as good as what you’ll find in the stores though sometimes, the furniture is even better. We have gotten a brand-new couch, and loveseat, and power recliner, and they are leather all around and in the color of our choice for a very good price.
But a while back, we were looking into Hunter Douglas blinds for new windows and they had a lady come in who seemed to know a bit more about that. And now they changed that whole approach, but there was another product aside from Hunter Douglas that we were looking at and they didn’t seem to be on top of that, but that changed since then. Also, there were hiccups with getting it delivered to the Globe Warehouse, but that had been sorted out since. Then just recently, I was on their live chat and I was asking about a Napoleon grill cover that would fit my particular model of Napoleon barbecue, but I was surprised that they never gave me the specs. They just told me what Napoleon would recommend that would fit on ours and proceeded to prepare a whole order for me and all I had to do was to pay for it, which was strange because I could usually do my own order. Other than that, DirectBuy is definitely worth it and we recommend them.

I went to a presentation out in Fredericksburg, Maryland and I was impressed by the savings that you could get by using DirectBuy. I’ve been a member for six years and mostly, I’ve been buying home furnishings and fixtures from them like living rooms and bedroom stuff because we've been furnishing a couple of houses. So far, everything has been really good. When buying, my daughter said I don’t know what I'm doing but it's okay. Sometimes I have issues when I'm trying to search for a particular item, but then I just call and they find it and everything is fine. The cost is fair and I would recommend it to my friends. I would tell them to try DirectBuy and they would save quite a bit.

I found out about DirectBuy when I got an invitation years ago when I lived in Pennsylvania to come to a group meeting. We were doing renovations in our house and we were thinking about building at that time. We knew that it would pay off if we did a new construction. We thought there’d be enough savings to make it make sense. Purchasing was simple. We renovated our kitchen, and we bought a washer and dryer, a pool table, and a hot tub. The phone-ins are better because you can get more detail by asking questions on the phone. I try to do that on something large because sometimes, the description isn’t as complete as you’d like it to be. The products have been absolutely excellent and I'm absolutely pleased. I’ve shared DirectBuy with a number of people.

We went to the DirectBuy open house and liked what we heard. And we joined them in 2001 and we really used the buying options they had and they saved us lots of money. In Mississauga, we redid our bathrooms and kitchen and we purchased all bedroom furniture. And since we were here in Cornwall, we redid our granite counters, purchased all new hardwood floors, purchased everything for the bathroom, the kitchen sink, a range hood, and a lot of appliances and we just ordered windows for the whole house. The products were top of the line and superior than what you could get anywhere. But the membership was a little hefty and it would turn a lot of people off, but I liked getting the best of the stuff right upfront. DirectBuy does switch their suppliers, but they tend to find the better suppliers so you can trust who they get.

Although I was able to find some of the speakers that I was looking for online, LaTosha was able to find all but one item in her price list and is having someone contact the vendor to see if that item is available. When we were gonna build a new home, we decided that we could take advantage of the discount through the manufacturer's list. So, I’ve been a member with DirectBuy for the last few years and we've purchased everything including appliances, furniture, and flooring. I've even had a nice experience with the carpet purchase. The quality of the products is good and the cost is fair. Purchasing is easy and I enjoy dealing with Megan up there at the front counter. DirectBuy is a good place to get good deals.

We’ve been DirectBuy members for close to 20 years now. We like the great prices that we were able to receive from them. We had mostly purchased window coverings and floor coverings and a few pieces of furniture. And most recently, I ordered some new deck furniture. Their purchasing process certainly has changed over the years. Now, everything is done through their website which is not as complete as it could be. And I know they’re working on that. So when there are brands that have items that I’m interested in and it’s not on the website, I just contact the customer service and they are able to help me that way.
When we first became members, they had a showroom where they had samples, catalogs and things on display. That was much nicer than the way it is now. But I understand it’s hard to keep and pay the upkeep to have facilities rented and whatnot. Nonetheless, the quality and the cost of their products are very good. If others are buying or building a new home, purchasing from DirectBuy could save them thousands and thousands of dollars. The experience has always been excellent. I would recommend them to my friends, and I have.

We thought we could save money by purchasing our new furniture and appliances through DirectBuy when we were moving. And I've been a member for about 15 years now. It's a great service. You can get good prices for products with good quality. Plus they are improving their online experience, which was something I thought they needed to do when I first joined up anyway. The store that I joined up through has closed and it's been easier for me now that I can have things shipped directly to my house. We've purchased appliances, vacations, wedding gifts, furniture, jewelry, electronics and bedding. But it's very expensive to become a member. Most of my friends cannot afford it and that's the only reason I wouldn’t recommend it to a friend. I wouldn’t want them to feel bad about not being able to afford it.

We had a friend who was a DirectBuy member and I also became a member for the savings. We used to have the DirectBuy showroom here and that time we were building a house and they showed us around with the savings that we can make. We went for it, built the house and saved about $12,000. It's unfortunate we lost our showroom, but there's nothing we can do about that. Nonetheless, I've been with DirectBuy for at least a dozen years now and I've bought electronics and appliances. Right now, we're doing a basement rental so I got some plumbing stuff coming. I've got a bathtub and we're probably gonna get another TV for down there.
Purchasing is easy and it's straightforward when I would call online. We got a concierge who helps and they're very friendly and helpful. The toughest part is waiting for the delivery and the time varies. They always give an average of what the vendor has been in the past, but 4 to 6 weeks seems to be a general time for most things. Other than that, the quality of the products is high end. Then some items are close in cost so we always check retail first. I'm buying about 39 square feet of flooring and my flooring store quoted me $5.70 a square foot. But the exact same item at DirectBuy was $3.99 a square foot, so it will save me almost $3,000 just for that one item. So if you wanna save some money, sign up with DirectBuy. The fees have changed for new members so they’d have to check in to that, but right now, 300 bucks a year which is quite reasonable.

Called May 10 re status of order. Barbara put me on extended hold as investigation of my Mar 22 order showed it should have been delivered that day and she contacted my local warehouse to confirm. I've been with DirectBuy for eight years. We were about to do some renovations and we thought it would be beneficial. We bought different appliances, windows and flooring and it was good. I like the service I get when I’m there and how quickly the product comes. I also usually like the product that comes. I did price comparisons before I purchased and the prices were good. Some of the larger pieces I find substantially cheaper through DirectBuy. If you’re doing a renovation, it’s worthwhile going through DirectBuy.

I was with DirectBuy for a while and then I let it lapse. For 10 years, they had the fee covered and then the yearly fee went up drastically. I let it drop then and when they did a promotion on lowering the yearly fee, it enticed me back and it has been almost two year now. We've purchased lighting, laminate and carpet from them, but mainly, appliances for our kitchen renovation. The purchasing experience is totally different now than it was the first 10 years. They have closed our showroom in Birmingham. So now, everything is done either online or I make a phone call and talk to someone and discuss. But my experiences were very positive. They’ve done a price check on some things for me and found it even lower than the price on DirectBuy. They help me get information if I don’t see enough on the website.
One time, something arrived with a missing glass for a light fixture and they took care of that immediately and had a whole new replacement sent. So I have been extremely pleased with the ease of talking to a real person and the ordering process. And if there were problems, they took care of that, much so than the old way of when we had a showroom. Also, they generally carry the higher line of products and I’ve noticed through the years that they carry only the higher grade of the laminate or the Pergo. It’s not the type you buy on Lowe’s. It was the kind you would find in the carpet stores that were local here to the area. So they have a bit higher line in quality.
As a DirectBuy member, I feel like I more than get my money back. Occasionally, I will find it cheaper online somewhere because oftentimes you can get free shipping and no tax from different websites. And then sometimes, just the fact that the shipping and handling ups it up so much on DirectBuy that I’ll go with the product elsewhere. But there are still a lot of good deals through DirectBuy. So, if my friends are going to be purchasing anything in the future, particularly home renovation project, I would encourage them to purchase from DirectBuy. It'll make it worth their while.

DirectBuy has a variety of products available and good prices. They also have delivery service at home or at the location. I've become a member 10 years ago and I've made purchases for major projects like kitchen renovation. I've done cabinetry, the counter, the ceramic flooring, ceramic tiles for a bathroom and some plumbing, like faucets. My purchasing experience is very good and it’s easy to navigate the website. It’s easy to get the products and the return policy was satisfactory as they’ve been very good with a few times when I’ve had to return some products. Also, the shipping was done within a reasonable deadline.

My project coordinator, Rick, from DirectBuy has been very helpful. It’s my first experience using the Concierge service. I was just always dealing with the local store and doing things online. There's a project this year that he’s helped me facilitate and coordinate. It took a little more time for me to go look in local retail stores to see what I was looking for but Rick was quite helpful securing some things.
But I’m a bit disappointed because I'm waiting for some things. Originally, they told me they would ship on the 23rd of April and I expected that to come in. It was some Delta faucet items and they helped up my whole shipment There are two parts out of fairly large order. I had called to see where the shipment was because I was expecting it to be delivered that week and nothing had been done with it. It was just on back order and no one had notified me. So that was a little frustrating when my contractors were all lined up to install stuff.
The person that was coordinating it hadn’t gotten back to Rick. They were on vacation or something so they didn’t tell then that it was not being shipped. I had expected a shipping notice so I contacted them a few days in and said, “Well, this should have shipped Monday. Should I see it today or tomorrow because it’s going to be only a couple of day delivery?” And that’s when they came back and said, “Oh, no, we found out the whole thing is in back order.”
So then I spoke with them a little bit to find out, “Could you tell me what was on backorder?” I was redoing two bathrooms and the fixtures were both identical. It turned out that one set of fixture was there. The other wasn’t. So my plumber could at least get the rough-in going. Rick jumped in and got them to the distributor to go ahead and back order two items. I was a little bit disappointed there that no one would have said, “Here’s everything we had. We can ship this. We can ship a partial order to you and these other two items were in back order.“ Instead, they were sitting on the whole thing and try to ship it all at once. But again, Rick has been great to work with. Every time I’ve reach out to him or done something, he’s jumped on stuff.
But when I was looking for tile through DirectBuy and I went to some of their tile distributors I didn’t have as much success finding what I wanted. The quality of the selection that I was looking just wasn’t there. Before, the manager of the store had set programs up with some of the local shops that would work with DirectBuy very nicely. And I could go in to the tile store locally and find something and they would give me a DirectBuy discount which was really helpful when you had local stores. But DirectBuy has changed their paths.
I’ve been with DirectBuy member now for close to ten years and I received an advertisement locally about it and their actual store in New York. And I went out to their showroom and they gave me the sales presentation. The store manager at that time did a great job and sold me on it. I was doing a big project in this house that I live in up north. Then, it was perfect timing. The sales team did a good job of convincing me that it would be well worth my investment.
I was doing two major bathrooms in my second home in Florida and I did a major bathroom renovation as well. I’ve done some other cabinets and rooms in the house. I usually use DirectBuy for bigger projects. I’ve done it for carpeting, tiles and furniture. Sometimes when I’ve done the research, by the time shipping and all of that goes in, I can just get something as easily through Amazon and through them. The big one that usually catches me is the shipping charges. I bought a couple of toilets for a bathroom and it was $200 to ship the toilets. It was almost break-even. My contractor could have gotten almost less expensive at a local supplier under his contractor discount. The heavier stuff I buy tends to chew out the margin.
The Concierge shopping is interesting. It’s a little more work on me than going in and sitting down with some designers. But then again, unlike going into previous stores and looking through some of the magazines that they had in the showrooms, it’s really going out online in trying to find things and then coming back to figure out if DirectBuy had used that service or not.
They were good in sending me some literature. When I was going through bathrooms, when I first started it and before I was linked up with Rick, the first person in Concierge sent me a listing of the suppliers they used. And so then I would get into finding things. It was good because I just turned it over to Rick and said, “Rick, do you carry this one?” And he’d go and search it for me. Some things he did, some things he didn’t.
I’m pleased with the products that I’ve gotten so far. I usually go for typical higher brand or name-brand standard items which I did for my bathroom, and I had saved some good money from buying it myself directly. What I have found is some of my contractors can get a discount if they’re doing the work. So I would take a good look at what I buy from them to see what is really worth the investment of dealing with the shipping and the handling charges versus just buying it locally. I have told many friends over the years that a DirectBuy membership is worth the investment if they’re doing something like a major kitchen or a major bathroom expense. It has its payback.

I’ve had different houses and I have some rentals. I’ve done some remodel work on the bathrooms and I used my DirectBuy membership for that. I also used it for furniture. I've been a member for 10 years since I was in Chicago and so far, their purchasing process is a lot better now than it used to be. But their website is still not user-friendly because it's confusing sometimes to find what I’m looking for. Other than that, everything that I’ve gotten from them has been good.

When I went to Direct Buy's showroom a couple of years ago, they made a presentation and it made sense. I had a lot of money back then so I decided to do it. It has saved me some money on household appliances, electronics and paint. Before, I had to go there and use the catalog. Now, it's different. I've got people who know me. I would look stuff up online and click then they would send me the link and I buy it. The quality is good and the cost is great, but then you get to shipping. You figure you're paying one price and then you pay the shipping and freight. I don't get that much of a big discount then.

When I was remodeling my house, I thought I could save some money with DirectBuy. I had to pay a big upfront cost when I started with them but for big projects and high-end items at reasonable cost, DirectBuy was worth it. I’ve been a member for 15 years and my purchases had been mostly stuff for Christmas presents and home improvement projects. The products were high quality, but I was really disappointed with the Queen Anne shaped tables I bought for the living room because the stain was very uneven. Other than that, I haven’t had problems with anything else.
About a year ago, I got married and we would be building a house, so I'd be purchasing a lot from DirectBuy. They used to have a store I could go in and look at the catalogs. So I’m still getting used to this new way of doing everything through the phone and email. But I’ve been working with a cabinet designer and have had a wonderful experience and I have just started working with a project coordinator, and it seems that it’s gonna work well.

I always check around to see what I can get in the retail market versus DirectBuy and usually, DirectBuy is better priced. But I was disappointed that they closed down the Victoria Warehouse, but other than that, the compensation with the concierge shopping on the phone seems to be working, so I can't complain. I've been a member for 12 years and it started when I was building a house and they had access to appliances. There were savings on those first appliances we bought for a membership.
Over the years, we bought appliances, a bed and TV from them. Their people have been helpful. And if they don't know something they'll find out and get back to me on it. As manufacturers, they don't seem to go with the cheap stuff, so they don't always have what I'm looking for 'cause they're more with higher end stuff. Other than warranty issues with Samsung appliances, I can't say we had any other issues. I've had a couple people ask me and I've told them that they should look into them and if they need any help to let me know and I'll point them in the right direction.

I became a DirectBuy member for cost reduction and for getting high-quality items. I could pay a mediocre price to get a higher quality item. I've been a member for 15 years and I've purchased furniture, lighting and my Shark Home Vacuum. I also joined the travel program a couple of years ago and we've gotten new credits from them for a couple of trips. Overall, purchasing from them has been an excellent experience. I've told friends that it's a great program. However, the entry cost is high and that's the only deterrent. When we got into the program, it was about $2,500. Now it can be $5,000 to $6,000. People should be building a new house or something like that to make the membership pay-off.

DirectBuy was at a home show I went to and because I own a home, I became a member. I knew that I would have a remodeling happening and it made sense to save money that way. Being a Direct Buy member for many years now, I've purchased furniture and have done a living room remodel, backyard remodel, and a wine cellar. Their products are of excellent quality and I use DirectBuy particularly for things that matter like for a family room and dining room. The purchasing experience is a little harder when browsing catalog because there’s so much information. Back when we had a showroom, that was easier because I can touch and feel and talk to someone live. But then again, it wasn’t always that easy when it’s time to go to that showroom. Still, if you own a house and you’re gonna remodel, you should sign up with DirectBuy.

I could get stuff for remodeling at a cheaper cost with DirectBuy and I had been a member for years. I like going into the showroom and looking into the catalog. It’s harder online to always look at everything. I had purchased lighting, cabinetry, hardware, appliances, and all of it. And the delivery was surprisingly fast and everything had been pretty decent. I would tell my friends to join DirectBuy because they would save money.
