I'm giving Neptune a one star review for the simple reason there is no online access for consumers. In this day and age it makes no sense and exhibits a lack of transparency that should make potential customers wary.

Be very careful in reading and understanding the contract. We were upsold two "add on" items that contradict each other and were told they should not have sold us both items. When my father passed away we were reimbursed for the items. When I contact Neptune about correcting the same items on my Mother's contract I was told we had to wait until she passes to collect the money for the mistake they made on our contract. A very shady business practice.

A family member only paid a few months for his Neptune Society preplanned cremation services. When he passed a few months later, Neptune Society told us the remaining cost for cremation is a little over $6,000!!!! That's just for the cremation process. Our local funeral homes charge less than $1,500 which includes a funeral service.

I strongly advise against using Neptune Cremation Services of Weymouth. My friend pre-paid for her cremation being told it would be an easy process after she passed. As trustee and executor to her will, I provided all the necessary documentation. Despite this, I was met with frustration and lack of clarity. I simply wanted to know when, or even if, my friend had been cremated, they were unable to provide me with this basic information.

Weeks later I finally learned that my friend had been cremated 30 days after her death, they could not give me an exact date. What stood out most was the complete lack of empathy and compassion. I was constantly given excuses. It’s appalling that a company in such a sensitive field could be so unprofessional and indifferent. It was hard enough to cope with the loss of my close friend, navigating this process only added to the emotional strain. Regarding the specifics of my experience, my primary contact person repeatedly ignored my calls and emails, blaming her receptionist. Eventually I was handed off to her colleague who explained to me that she was busy dealing with other clients. “You are not our only family.” All I wanted was a simple answer—when would my friend be laid to rest?

My elderly family member prided himself in pre-paying for his cremation so his children could grieve without financial burden. When the time came to make that phone call, not only were the representatives not able to give answers to questions there was a gross lack of communication on when the “care team” would call to arrange picking him up but even a timeframe of when the pick up would happen. Neptune talks a good talk so they can get your money but when it’s time to provide what has been paid for, your family members will have stress added to the circumstances.

I've reached an age where I am concerned about making arrangements for my end of life. Working with Eric ** at the Neptune Society I now have a plan. Not being terribly computer savvy, Eric was extremely helpful and together we able to complete all the necessary paperwork in a very short time. Payment was fair and reasonable and also conducted on the phone. The materials concerning my end of life arrived in the mail in two days. Now all I have to do is notify my family where to find the Neptune phone number and everything will be taken care of by Neptune. Living alone, this has given me a great deal of comfort knowing that I will be well taken care of. Grant

Don't get misled and make sure you are aware of all of the price details with the Neptune Society. The sales person was nice, but very misleading. I'm ending up paying $1,260 more than what I thought I was going to pay. Apparently there are TWO separate contracts, instead of just one. One is only for the cremation services that they provide and a second one is for the cardboard urn ($1,505 - rather expensive for cardboard) and travel insurance ($569 which I was told was included in the total price - but not true). I do not need $569 worth of travel insurance because I don't travel, so this is money I have thrown away for nothing.

Their computer program did not clearly present in one place what I was signing up for, so the total price was virtually impossible to catch at the time since there was a lot of information and the salesperson was not forthcoming. I only found out my situation a few days ago after receiving something in the mail showing my balance, which was significantly higher than what I expected. By the time I found this out, the 30 days cancelation had expired so I am left paying 57% more than what I had understood I would pay. Don't get misled like I did.

The representative that came to our house was nice and not pushy at all. I am giving this service 2 stars, not the representative. I am writing this review after having signed up for and then cancelling the contract. And it is a contract, be sure you understand that. They have several packages, but the service package covers everything you need. The memento package has extras like 25 thank you cards, a special container, etc. I would value this at about $100. They value it at over $1,000. If you buy this memento package, you get a discounted rate on the service package. So it is false advertising to say that their services cost less than $2,000.

Their services cost around $3,000. If you buy the memento package, then the service package is discounted to the rate they advertise. So, either way, you end up paying at a minimum about $3,000. I am also VERY concerned about some of the negative reviews on this website. NOTICE that more than 80% of the reviews are 1 star. Read them.

Please note our cautionary tale and be aware that the Neptune Society is one of many subsidiaries of SCI Inc. with about $2 billion in annual sales of death products. We experienced 1) pressure to not have family input, 2) not having all the paperwork in hand before signing, 3) not having the extent of after-death services provided to my spouse, money, and who is not very financially and computer literate, 4) my application not being checked for accuracy (my spouse's rather than my email was on the application), and 5) the month-long convoluted process of returning our money (signed 12/16/22, rejected 12/19/22, death merchandise received by SCI 100 NW 70th Avenue, Suite 200, Plantation, FL 33317 via UPS ** & ** on 1/12/23) after a convoluted process of returning our money.

Finally, on 1/19/23, after many calls to Neptune, we contested and blocked credit card charges. Now, one year after canceling our contract for cause, Lynn of the Neptune Society of Santa Barbara has again called for the tracking numbers. Consider signing up for the UCLA Donated Body Program and not having the worry, expense, and other complications. Cremation is available in most places for about $1000. Check websites such as ** for other options.

I have talked to the numerous times, and set up times to try to complete the contract, but I have been ignored. I agreed to pay once they email me the exact numbers for the cost, but no email. Either they are incompetent or they do not need the money.

When you lose a dear family member and have no experience on how to give them a befitting memorial and burial, you have to rely on the people who are servicing you. When my second brother passed away, I contacted a very reputable funeral director. However, we needed more servicing than I realized, and they could provide. I had to do everything myself with no experience. I remembered that we had contracts for several of our family members with Neptune Society. I contacted them in Houston and was contacted by Marisa and Michael from their Houston office.

They took over from the beginning and walked us through what they would do for our family and the necessary steps for my brother's servicing from contacting the VA, ME, VA Cemetary, Cremation, Transportation, etc. They made sure all paperwork was in order and mailed them with the Flag, paperwork and my brother's ashes back home to Illinois. The Honor Ceremony was Spiritual and Honorable. We were all impressed and humbled and the Cemetery Caretakers were absolutely caring and supportive. As this was the second brother I buried in less than three months, Neptune Society provided me with Support, Caring, and all the advice I needed to lay them in their final resting place. THANK YOU MICHAEL and MARISA.

The Neptune Society allows some of their sales agents to defraud customers and does not compensate the victim customer. Laura **, of the North Richland Hills, TX office, lied to me as we discussed the contract over the phone. She then sent a contract with several errors. When I called to have them corrected, she said corrections would be made but an updated contract would not be provided (17 months later, the corrections were finally addressed but no updated contract “can be” provided).

Within a few weeks, I received a package containing a wooden box for my cremains and items such as thank you cards. I called Laura again and she said not to worry, it was included in the price. Unbeknownst to me, she had added an addendum to the contract charging an additional $1,572.87. Not only did she lie about the price being included (by presenting it as if it was in the initially agreed upon price); she did not inform me I could return it within 30 days – which I would have done.

I’ve made many calls during the past several months to get resolution to this issue but to no avail. I highly recommend anyone considering a contract with Neptune Society to read every word of the contract in person and ask questions until you are completely satisfied that the contract is exactly what you want and do not sign anything until every word and dollar amount is correct.

My parents contracted with Neptune over thirty years ago. When my father passed we assumed it was a simple phone call as advertised. Not so, after checking in we were told to simply to have hospice call upon death yet hospice was told a pickup was not possible. We then made our own arrangements to have the body removed from memory care and were promised a reimbursement by the manager upon receipt of the death certificate. Now even after providing a death certificate, we now are told we must wait 30-60 days as money is coming from a trust. "Trust" is the last word we would associate with this deceptive concern. Do not use this company as it was nothing but trouble and heartache.

The following may apply to Florida only and is not about services promised. It is about the misleading way the Neptune Society chooses to display the “Total Cost” for their services. I chose a zero percent payment plan for myself and my wife. Unfortunately, my wife will pass away before the total payment for services will be rendered. In advance of her death, I contacted the Neptune Society to obtain the balance due. Since the TOTAL SALES PRICE, is indicated on Page 1 of the contract. You can imagine my surprise when I was quoted a balance DOUBLE that amount. It turns out that the TOTAL SALES PRICE on page 1 IS MISLEADING AND IS NOT the TOTAL SALES PRICE! To get the Total Sales Price you have to go 4 pages into the same contract to get ANOTHER Total Sales Price and ADD PAGE 1 AND 4 TOGETHER!

It was explained to me that the FIRST Total Sales Price is an escrow total for the State of Florida and the SECOND Total Sales Price is for Neptune Society. Further, that the Sales Rep should have explained that to me. Frankly, I don’t care. As the consumer, I expect the Total to be THE TOTAL! I’m not an attorney, but it seems to me that the Total should only be displayed in one place and then you detail how that money will be applied. You definitely should not have to find out this silliness as your loved one is dying and after you have set aside the monies to cover this event only to find you now have an additional financial hardship.

The problem we are having is that every time we call they can not give us any information as to where my mother is.. if she has been cremated and are so rude that one young man told me to get a lawyer and they could find out for me. They have had her body since they took it away Jan.30th and now it's March and we have paid and still nothing. Don't let them lose your loved one. Because certainly nobody knows.
