What does Xoom do?

Xoom is a money transfer service. Its services are available online from your computer, tablet or smartphone, so you don’t have to visit a money transfer location. You can link multiple accounts and use a bank account, credit card, debit card or PayPal account to fund transfers. Xoom offers three levels of service:

  • Level 1 allows bank deposits or cash pickups of up to $2,999 in 24 hours and up to $9,999 in 180 days.
  • Level 2 has a limit of $10,000 in 24 hours for bank deposits and cash pickups and a limit of up to $30,000 in 180 days.
  • Level 3 allows bank deposits up to $50,000 in 24 hours and up to $100,000 in 180 days.

Xoom transfers typically take two to three business days but can be expedited depending on the payment type. Large amounts require additional processing time.

How does Xoom work?

To sign up for Xoom services, you need to provide the recipient’s name. The company may also request additional information, including your:

  • Account information
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Banking info (if you’re making a deposit)
  • Social Security number
  • Passport (or green card/driver’s license)
  • Proof of address (e.g., utility bill)
  • Bank statement
  • Pay stub

Large money transfer amounts require additional verification.

How much does Xoom cost?

Fees for sending money by Xoom vary by amount, payment type, delivery type and country. For example, to send $200 to Mexico costs $2.99 if you use your PayPal or bank account. If you send $200 cash for pickup to a recipient in Mexico, the fee is $3.99 for all payment types.

To send $1,000 to a bank account, the PayPal and bank account fee is $0, while debit or credit card funding will cost $3.99. To send $10,000 to a recipient’s bank account in Mexico by debit or credit card, fees jump to $251.49. But the fee is still $0 if you use PayPal or your bank account.

    Xoom provides the worst rate and now looking at one star reviews they have here makes me think that they don't care for any of their customers either way. My money is stuck with them for 5 days now and all they have to say is there is a delay with their partners in india. No updates, no follow ups, no escalation and more over they don't act on weekends and NO CANCELLATIONS!!! My money, I pay service charge still I don't have any control on it.. I wish I switched to remitly but I thought xoom is better since they are with Paypal. Anyways this proves that big firms don't care for customer service!!! Goodbye XOOM!!!

    I had a disappointing experience using Xoom for an international money transfer. The transfer took significantly longer than expected, and the status updates provided very little useful information about the delay. This created uncertainty and inconvenience, especially since the funds were time-sensitive. When I contacted customer support, I found it difficult to get a clear explanation regarding the issue or an estimated resolution time. The responses I received were generic and did not adequately address my concerns. I chose Xoom expecting a fast and reliable transfer service, but my experience fell short of those expectations. Based on this experience, I would be hesitant to use the service again.

      Xoom showed that my money transfer would take about 3 minutes, so I chose this service. But right after I paid and the money was taken from my account, the delivery time suddenly changed to 5 days. This feels misleading. If the transfer takes 5 days, it should be shown before payment, not after. When I tried to contact support, the website kept showing an error. It said a duplicate case could not be created, but I never received any confirmation email, message, or case number. So I had no real way to reach support about my money. Very frustrating experience. I do not recommend Xoom.

      I had two fraudulent transfers from my Xoom account to people I didn't know, My bank deterred they were fraud so did not send funds to them, now Xoom and PayPal locked my account unless I reimburse the money sent to the fraudsters.

      For years I’ve been using Xoom to send money to my family in Mexico. Always great prices and dollar exchange. The last time I’ve used them, I was charged 16 dollars for the service and the dollar exchange to pesos was lower than any other one. They went way to expensive and hidden fees that didn’t have before. Be aware.

      If you are sending money to Canada, stay away from Xoom. While they claim to be convenient, their conversion rates are very poor compared to the mid-market rate. After realizing how much money I was losing on every transfer, I compared them to Western Union. Western Union offers a much more realistic rate and lower overall costs. Don't let Xoom "suck your money" with bad rates—do your homework and stick with Western Union.

      My experience with Xoom Money Transfer has been quite disappointing overall. While the platform is marketed as a fast and convenient way to send money internationally, the actual experience did not match those expectations. To start with, the app and website are easy to use, and initiating a transfer is simple. The process feels smooth in the beginning. You enter the details, see an estimated delivery time, and complete the transaction without any issues. However, the problems begin after the transfer is submitted. In my case, the transfer was delayed far beyond the promised timeframe. There was no clear communication or explanation for the delay, which was frustrating, especially since the money was time sensitive. I had to keep checking the status myself and contact customer support just to get basic updates.

      Customer support was another weak point. The responses felt generic and scripted, and it did not seem like the representatives had proper information about my transaction. Instead of giving a clear reason or solution, I was mostly told to wait, which is not reassuring when your money is stuck. Another issue is the lack of transparency in fees and exchange rates. The initial fee might look reasonable, but the exchange rate makes the transfer more expensive than expected. This makes it harder to fully trust the service. Overall, while Xoom eventually gets the job done, the delays, poor communication, and average support experience make it unreliable for urgent transfers. It may work for non urgent use, but there are definitely better alternatives available.

      Gave them a 1 star because I couldn’t go negative. I sent money to one of my other accounts, never got there. I’ve filed 2 claims. They’ve done nothing except say they were in favor for the seller. That would be me and I lost over $1,000. They a scam.

      I sent money via Xoom from my bank account, my name and my address - money were deposited by Trusty Group AB from Stockholm. Without any reference to my as a sender. Recipient rejects to accept it as there is no any information connecting it with my payment (except some unclear Xoom Id).

      Hold the money. Never was deposit to the bank. I was never contacted by a customer service there's was a problem or need more documents. Sucks!!!! I'll never recommend to use this app again. I also talk to customer service without solving my issues.

      I am very mad with this company, Xoom supposed to send the money to Mexico right away, now, it looks like it's gonna take about six days for my family to get the money. We do have an emergency in the money is not gonna make it on time. This company is horrible, so don't waste your time, don't use Xoom.

      Useless. I transfered money from Chase to PayPal and it had initially said it would take 13 minutes. Then it said it would take 6 days even after they had received the money from my Chase account. So I went to cancel the transaction and now it says it will take 3-5 days to refund my money. Worthless waste of time.

      I sent money from US to UK. 30 days later, my sister never got the money. Xoom deducted the amount from my checking account within 30 minutes of the transaction. All the bank information I gave them was correct. I called and emailed them and the latest email I got was that there was a delay in processing and that the money was sent to the recipient but NO money was deposited to the recipient. They gave this FPID number that the UK bank said is invalid. I told xoom to cancel the transaction and just refund the money but instead they said that it will take at least 30 days for the transaction fee to be refunded. So what about the money that you deducted from my bank? It was not a small amount! BEWARE everyone. This is very frustrating.

      I have had a PayPal account for many years, and tried to set up Xoom to be able to make transfers to my foreign account. After setting up the transfer, I received a notification by email that I needed to send documents for verification purposes. Once I uploaded those documents, the following day I was notified that the transaction was cancelled. I called customer service to find out why, and was told the verification process could not be completed, but that the reason could not be explained to me, since that would reveal information about the verification process that I am not supposed to know. I have absolutely no use for a service like this. Even though I asked what I could do to remedy the situation, I was told there was nothing I could do, except send an email. I prefer to just cancel everything and find a service that works.

      My first experience using Xoom initially I sent a payment of 25 dollars that went through to the recipient. 2 days later I sent 50 dollars and money was taken out my account then the status said delayed. Call customer service the said technical issues with the recipients / partner bank that should resolve in 24 hours which did not. Call customer service again. Still the same story. Little do they know I used another money transfer app to send the money and it went through within minutes. Reading the comments it the same script they read to everyone. I canceled the payment but judging by the comments I won’t get my money back. I wish I read the comments first. Shame on you Xoom. Times are hard out here and people are trying to help their friends and family but you are full of lies and taking people's hard earned money. Never use this service people look elsewhere.

      Yes, it is convenient and much of it is positive, BUT when they took away the fee to send money to Mexico, they lowered the exchange rate so that they actually earn MORE, much more than the little fee. What used to cost a $3.99 or maybe $4.99, with the lower exchange rate it cost me $40.00! The rate today is 18.45 for each USD, but they gave me 16.27. The more money I send, the more they cash in! OUCH....very sly of them after bragging about no more fees to certain countries. If I wanted to send $200 USD it would cost me $16 dollars in lost exchange rate. They could go with 18 and earn .45 for each dollar, but they used 16.27 and get 2 full points! Outrageous. GREEDY.

      I’m never using Xoom again! I had to send money to the Philippines for medical emergency. Their options said that for bank deposits, it is usually available within hours. Nothing about “business days”. You could imagine my surprise when after I finished the transaction, it gave me an estimated delivery date of 4 days from my transaction date. I called their customer service and she said that it's because you are depositing it to Union Bank and they typically only process transaction Mon -Fri from 8am to 5pm. I told her that does not make sense because when I used Remitly, and deposit the money to the same bank, the money is available within minutes. Doesn’t matter whether it was the weekday, weekend or in the middle of the night! They have taken the money out of my bank account as well so canceling it is useless because it will take a few days again for my money to return. Moving forward, I rather use different money transfer services than Xoom!

      They took me through a process after I had emailed them several times. Then I had to call them and review my case which should have been simple however there was some hidden issues that would not allow me to transfer the money. I spent a week wasting time. Horrible.       Xoom is deceptive in its advertising, suggesting that they have a meaningful partnership with Ria. They don't. Brooklyn is full of Ria locations, but you can pick up cash from Xoom at ONLY TWO. They wasted my evening. Trash company.
