I am extremely disappointed with the recent experience I had with TransferWise. As a long-time and frequent customer, I trusted your platform for timely and reliable foreign exchange transfers, but this time the service fell far below acceptable standards. Two of my transactions were unnecessarily delayed without any clear justification. I used your Plaid-linked deposit method as instructed, yet the funds were held for over five days. This delay caused significant issues at the receiving end, as the money did not arrive when it was urgently needed.

What made the situation worse was the lack of support from your customer service team. My inquiries were met with unhelpful responses, and no meaningful explanation or resolution was provided. For a service that markets itself on speed and efficiency, this experience was both frustrating and unacceptable. This incident has seriously undermined my confidence in your platform. I expect better transparency, faster processing, and competent customer support—especially for customers who rely on your service regularly.

Generally speaking, reliable, fast and cheap. BUT if there is ever a problem, their chatbot is totally useless and their humans - when you can get through - must be dealing with a dozen clients simultaneously, and can't actually DO anything! Also, don't try to send money from the same account by ACH within 3 or 4 days. Don't ask me why, but it just doesn't work. 😔

They are the worst bank I have used. I had a business account with them, which they closed without telling me any reason. Luckily, I only had $100 in my account, which they have kept and never returned. I had a high street bank account, and I did not need their shit service. I regret the time I lost chasing them to get my $100, which they never did. How can you keep someone's money? I wish I had time and resources to take them to court.

Wise feels like a scam. I tried sending only **$500** to another verified user, and they suddenly blocked my money over the reference “Smart money talk” and started asking ridiculous questions. I’ve used Revolut for years and never had my money held or been treated like this. Holding customer funds over a normal transfer and creating unnecessary problems is unacceptable. Very bad experience — I won’t use Wise again.

They block your account and push you in an infinite KYC loop. The customer service does not care if you get your account unblocked or not. There must be a way to do KYC processes more user-friendly. A truly frustrating company.

I have never had such a frustrating experience. This is by far the most dysfunctional service I have ever encountered. Nothing works on their end - NOTHING. Customer Service only knows to say, "let me check into this" until you get frustrated and end the chat. I've wasted 4 hours of my life with Wise today and refuse to waste another minute. I heard from Wise in response to my review. They told me to be patient and to try to use phone or email instead of chat. The reason I had to use chat was because when I tried to use the phone option - my preference - the website instructs to push the button for Chat and answer the 'instant' call. I NEVER received a call.

After trying this 4 times with no return call, the only button able to try was chat. Email was "unavailable". It's impossible to reach this service by phone, and after 2 hours of frustration I finally found a way to log in and process my money transfer - which was IMMEDIATELY flagged for suspicious activity. I also tried to move a $150 balance to my linked bank checking account and got an error message that Wise wouldn't allow this. NOTHING about this service has worked for me. EVERYTHING is not working or dysfunctional. Don't even consider using this service.

A Systemic Failure in Times of Need Wise (formerly TransferWise) –

      Rating: ⭐☆☆☆☆

I have been a loyal client of Wise for over a year, but I will never use them again and am supporting all my friends to close their accounts after their catastrophic handling of an emergency situation. If you are relying on this service for urgent funds, STAY AWAY.
My experience with Wise has been nothing short of a nightmare:
The Trap: In an emergency, I had a friend in Taiwan register and send $200. After Wise took their fees, $190 was supposedly on its way with a 48-hour delivery estimate.
The Bait-and-Switch: The moment the money was sent, my account—which has been active for over a year—was suddenly "temporarily restricted" for a "security check".
Misleading Timelines: I received an automated email claiming these checks are "usually finished within 2 hours". This is a blatant lie.
AI Dismissiveness: After 6 hours of silence, their AI help system offered nothing but scripted platitudes, claiming they needed to "keep my money safe" while actually preventing me from accessing it.

The 10-Day Goalpost: It has now been over 30 hours. When I finally got a response today, the timeline shifted from "2 hours" to "2 to 10 working days".

      The Reality of Using Wise:
They will happily take your fees upfront but will freeze your funds the second they are in their system.
Their "security checks" appear to be a standard tactic to hold customer capital for days on end without providing a specific reason or a human to talk to.
For those in a crisis, 10 working days is an eternity. Their "protection" feels more like a predatory hold on legitimate transfers.

Verdict: Wise is no longer the reliable disruptor they once were. They are now a bloated, automated machine that hides behind "regulatory requirements" to justify holding your money hostage when you need it most. Use a traditional bank or a service that actually values its customers' lives and emergencies.

Wise has stolen over $450 from me and lied while not resolving any issue they created. These people should not be in business. I sent a payment for a water bill and HOA payment and they have held my money for over 3 weeks saying they can’t return it. They have no customer service or anyone that that help you when you call in or email. They make excuses and have very little people who speak English to handle anything. I am out $450 US dollars and they won’t refund it when they said they would and would only take a few days. 3 weeks later, nothing. Don’t trust this app. They are a scam and steal and lie to their customers.

Headline: Warning: Zero Fraud Protection with Wise – Avoid for Overseas Travel. I am writing this as a warning to anyone considering a Wise card for international travel. I have been scammed out of over $300, and despite my repeated pleas and evidence, the Wise team has been completely dismissive. The Situation: I attempted a transaction with a merchant that my primary bank immediately recognized as fraudulent and blocked. Thinking it might have been a false positive, I unfortunately tried my Wise card. Not only did Wise process the transaction immediately without any security flags, but they have also allowed the merchant to continue charging my card even after I reported the scam.

The Lack of Support: The merchant’s website has since been discontinued, and they are completely unreachable. I have provided this information to Wise, yet their customer service is non-existent. My assertions have fallen on deaf ears, and they refuse to acknowledge that I am being targeted by a known scammer. The Bottom Line: While I feel "fortunate" that my loss was limited to $300, it could have been much worse. If you are scammed while using Wise, do not expect them to have your back. Their "immediate processing" comes at the cost of your financial security. Do not trust Wise with your travel funds. Stick to a bank that actually monitors for fraud and protects its customers.

I had a Wise account for several months as I now live in Europe and my income sources (Social Security and Pension) are in the US. Suddenly without warning Wise cancelled my account but refused to give me a reason why. When I called them their service representative stated that they are not given the reasons for this either and was very sympathetic to me about the unfairness of this. I did file an appeal but received the same reasoning back--they refuse to tell you why your account was cancelled. The customer service is terrible. I read through the customer service agreement and found nothing there that I violated. You cannot speak to anyone in their compliance department. It was very disappointing and poor customer service.

My card was blocked for 3 months despite submitting all requested documents the same day it was requested, with no meaningful reply or timeline. During that time Wise allowed a transaction to post while the card was both blocked by them and frozen by me, and my dispute over that charge was rejected without any explanation of how it was authorised. I have received contradictory messages about whether the duplicate/unauthorised transaction will be refunded. Customer support repeatedly redirects me to other threads rather than providing a clear resolution.

I'm a California customer who ordered a physical Wise card for an upcoming trip to Vietnam. During the $9 checkout process, there was no disclosure that US-issued Wise cards are currently blocked from working in Vietnam. I only learned about these restrictions after my payment was processed—the support representative sent me a link titled "Where will my Wise card work?" By then, the card was already useless for my trip.

When I contacted support, a representative explicitly promised me a refund, then retracted that promise minutes later, calling it a "mistake." I was told their 12-day return window had passed, even though I contacted them as soon as I discovered the card wouldn't work for its intended purpose. They've refused the refund. This isn't buyer's remorse—this is a product sold without disclosing a critical limitation at checkout. If you're blocking an entire country, that information belongs on the payment page, not buried in a help article that customers only see after purchase. I've filed a formal complaint with Wise and am considering escalating this to the California DFPI. To other travelers: Check whether your destination is on Wise's blocked list before purchasing. That list exists—they just don't show it to you until after they have your money.

Wise is garbage, they denied setting up a personal account on the basis of possible fraudulent usage...What??? The account hadn't been set up yet. Then when you click the button to write an appeal, what you get is not a field to write an appeal, but a denial of your appeal (which was not even made yet!!). So in essence, you cannot appeal to mindless machine... No humans, they are just haywire bots...This is a shit service and company, find another to use that will not waste your time. Horrible, stay away from Wise! Wise cancelled my transaction despite they had all my information, despite I sent money with them before and despite all my info (phone, address etc.) remained the same. I sent money with Wise from my US account to my home country to pay my credit card bill there. After causing me to lose 4 business days (almost a week), they just cancelled the transaction!!! Now I face huge penalties on that credit card since this payment wont arrive. On top of that, they said the return of my money to my US account can take 10 days (!!!!).

I think they keep their customers' money on interest: While the customers wait for their money for 10 days, Wise make interest income on customers' money (which doesn't even belong to them) with the excuse that procedures take time (!!!), on top of the damage they caused. Use your bank or a more reputable and trustable firm. Use another firm, which can guarantee timing, properly inform you about verification procedures, and won't make interest income on your money for 10 days. Stay away from Wise...

TransferWise is a web-based money transferring company founded out of frustration due to the lack of a global currency. With a TransferWise personal or business account, you can send money around the world, paying real exchange rates and small fees.

      • Personal accounts: Transferring money with a bank costs more because banks set their own exchange rates so they can make money. TransferWise uses real exchange rates, known as mid-market rates. You can see real-time exchange rates on their website, as well as charts of exchange rates over the past 30 days. TransferWise boasts a savings of as much as 8 times more than when using a bank.

      • Multi-currency account: TransferWise has a new account called a multi-currency account. This account lets you send, spend and receive money in over 25 currencies. Also called a borderless account, these are great for businesses with employees around the world. You can easily switch between currencies and avoid high exchange rates.

      • Pricing: TransferWise does not charge monthly or receiving fees. They charge small converting fees when you convert across currencies, a small fixed fee when you send money to a bank account in the same currency and the normal conversion fee plus a small fixed fee when you send money to a bank account of a different currency. The normal conversion fee is $1.30.

      • Global impact: TransferWise is used in 59 countries covering 504 currency routes. It moves over 600 million dollars every month and saves people around 287 million dollars in hidden charges.

      • Mobile app: TransferWise has a mobile app for iOS and Android devices so you can track and transfer money on the go.
