BUYER BEWARE!! $$ Our nightmare started in December 2023 when AHG scammed my husband and I out of nearly half of our retirement accounts! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM! Jeff **, Cameron **, Wally ** and Matt ** advised us to buy coins and sold us coins charging premiums between 65- 96% on 2 separate occasions. Totally decimating the cash value or our IRAs!

Company representative called me promptly after the negative review, to explain and clarify why some of my gold coins cost more than spot price and says, it is a limited edition and rare coin that is 24K rather than the usual 22K gold coins. Representative admitted to another employee not explaining my investment, and is no longer working at the company, that it's not my fault and wants to make it right with me and offered some extra silver coins at no cost. This representative also described the value of all my investments and put my mind at ease.

In my opinion they are borderline criminals. I called as a new investor through their advice, invested $40,000 in gold and 10,000 and silver, did not know what exactly to buy whether it be bars or stocks or coins or anything for that matter and was advised that coins were the best return so that's what I got. Called the supervisor of my salesman as soon as I received my order realizing that the weight of the coins was so far off of what the value of straight bullion would have been or bars or whatever the case may be.

Benjamin ** has been a dream to work with. He is very detailed, personable and gets back to me quickly when I have a question. I was going to liquidate all of my metals but decided against that. I'm staying with American Hartford Gold because of Benjamin. Benjamin does an exceptional job and I hope his boss gets this review and recognizes him.

That’s over 1/3 of your money in premiums. They use high pressure sales tactics to sell fractional higher premium metals so they can line their own pockets. I invested 42K from a 401K into their IRA and paid $13,975.81 in premiums. Plus their depository costs more than double of competitors. I trusted their salesman, highly recommended website and celebrity endorsements such as facts matter with Roman. Don’t let them take advantage of you.

Having never purchased precious metals before, this was a big thing for me. Steven, Adam and Dani were great at explaining what was available and made the transaction very smooth. I will certainly purchase from American Hartford Gold again and highly recommend them.

New to precious metals investing, Kevin explained everything in detail to me, and answered any questions I asked. He walked me throught the docusign experience, explained the three types of precious metal grades, and explained spot price and spreads to me. Very happy with my experience!

When I opened my precious metals IRA in 2021 based on a spokesman I trusted, I invested $200,000. I naively trusted the advisor to place it where it would get me a good ROI. He set up the account with 97% coins and 3% gold & silver valcambi bars. When I saw my Equity Trust statement a few days later, I saw its value at $115,000. I called my AHG advisor about it and was told this was only the 'melt' value and not the real value of the coins. I was not sophisticated enough at the time to know that the melt value is approximately the spot value. As AHG purchased the coins at spot, they kept approximately $85,000 of my $200,000 investment as their commission. AHG charged me as much as 93 percent above the spot price for some of the products.

Good for the most part, misspelling my name is not good. The person who contacted second, the number she called from was someone else's voicemail. The second DocuSign form came from someone whom I had not heard about. Abigail stated that it would be coming from her. So far, Philip is the only person who has not made a mistake.

After further review of my purchase and what I actually paid for per ounce, I was charged almost 3x the spot price per ounce for gold, so basically, this investment will always produce a loss in my lifetime. The chances of gold increasing 300%, impossible. This was my very first transaction purchasing gold and silver and I thought this company was reputable based on reviews I had read. But, obviously not the case. I was misled to believe I was purchasing 1 oz coins when in fact they were only .25 oz coins. Definitely feel like I was cheated.

My experience with American Hartford Gold was very smooth, neat and professional. The account rep I spoke with walked me through the the process, explaining the various types of metal classes, how the metals are divided for purchase orders, short or long term investments and how long it would it could take to receive my order. The confirmation agent was helpful in reviewing the order I placed and making sure I understood everything as well. It overall was a good experience.

My wife and I invested a total of 467,000.00 with AHG in 2019, 2021. We were assured that when we wanted to sell some of our holdings we would receive spot price. In 2021, when the price of gold and silver increase significantly, we called AHG to sell some of our holdings for home improvements. To our dismay, we were informed that the value of our holdings did not appreciate with the market but decreased in value. The reason that they gave us is that we purchased coins that were known as fractional, and to our further dismay did not reflect market value.

Wonderfully filled the question on how and when to hold on the silver investment. Left me feeling comfortable in buying silver, verses on just guessing where and when to invest. I opened an account in 2022 and invested $130,000. Once the metals were transferred to the depository, the value of my account was $80,000. Without my knowledge, I was charged "fees" of $50,000. When I asked for an explanation, my rep told me they depository values the metals differently. Be careful and review the sales invoice before you agree. Make sure know how much over the current price you are actually pay for the metals. On some metals, I paid almost double. I would not recommend this company.

Updated on 06/12/2025: AHG has responded to my review with details that are clearly incorrect. We bought metals in 2019 when spot price was $1474.00. They charged us 86% above spot price to buy 1/4 oz. gold metals. These went down in value. We were told we’d get spot price when selling these metals. When we called in over two years later the value had dropped while the market went up 25%.

I give AHG one star but if I could give negative stars I would! I wanted to put some money in a gold and silver IRA. I admit I was not knowledgeable about precious metals and even less about exactly how the IRA process would work. It's a complex arrangement that involves three parties but my big complaint is with AHG itself. The funding of the IRA involved them purchasing metals for me at an absurd markup. They purposefully purchase uncommon weights of coins and bars so it's more difficult to calculate the per oz value. In my case it was 1.25 silver coins and 1 gram gold "bars". When I received a quote I thought the premium was kind of high but it wasn't till after the fact that I figured out I was paying a more than 45% premium on these metals!! I read the great reviews and figured big company, better buying power but I was naive and wrong! Do your research and stay clear of American Hartford Gold for your Metals IRA.
