OneMain Financial offers personal loans online, by phone and in person at nearly 1,300 branches across 44 states. You can use OneMain loans for emergency bills, a vehicle, home improvement, debt consolidation, medical bills or nearly any other purpose. Loan amounts range from $1,500 to $30,000, and OneMain states funds may be available as soon as one hour after closing. It takes about five minutes to get prequalified, with no effect on your credit score. OneMain also offers three credit cards, called BrightWay, to a limited number of customers. The company says it will be expanding card availability to more customers soon.

    I talked over the phone with the agent. He was very pleasant and helpful. He guided me every step of the way and let me know all my options. I set up an appointment to go speak with him in person. Everything was laid out there for me when I arrived. No wait period or anything. I walked out that day with my check. It was quick easy and done under the greatest of friendliness I have every received. Springleaf has the best customer service I have seen for a long time.

    My account was bought out from Household Finance Company. After looking at our account and figuring we borrowed about 7k and still had 5k on the loan from 6 or 7 years ago we decided to move it to a low interest credit card. After paying the account off the company still direct debited my account after it was paid off. I was told to fax in the direct debit from my account and they would expedite the refund. I called back a few days later after receiving a $35 check where theh over drafted my bill pay account. I was told the draft would be returned in the next few days, that it takes 10 days to processes.

    On the 9th I call back and was told it should process back that night. Nope it didn't. I'm 18 days in and waiting for a refund. You sure can believe that if I was 18 days late I would be receiving a ton of collection calls. Probably even to my place of employment. I've made complaints with attorney general and BBB as of today. So if you want to pay 30 percent interest and have them debit an account already paid I say go for it. If you can sell a kidney instead I think that's your best deal!

    Changed my interest rate at the last moment, twisted my arm to buy insurance then wouldn't honor it when I went off work on disability. Refuses to work with me on payments, don't answer phones, don't return phone calls.

    I originally borrowed from Household Finance and Springleaf bought or assumed the loan. With hhf we had doubled our payment for a couple years and the principal never dropped compared to amount paid. When I then tried to increase with Springleaf, even spoke directly with them and they said paying the loan early was a good idea. Good idea for them. They put all the money to interest or future payments. Do not use them unless you want an anchor forever. I think the positive comments are either new customers who don't realize what they got or the company makes fake positive posts. Beware is all I can say. Spent 1000's$ in interest that was supposed to go to principal. Just my .02$ Springleaf got the rest.

    Updated on 05/05/2015: OK so my wife spoke to Springleaf customer service today and now we are told that our extra money on the loan was just put towards the next payment instead of the principal (like we requested on the phone and the rep told us that was a good idea to pay down the loan) because we were paying via internet/phone. Guess who is getting a check from now on and all money above the monthly payment will be marked on the memo and better be put towards the principal. Boy this company has soaked me for thousands in interest and my loan balance goes down slowly instead of getting paid off early. Wish I could give this zero stars and beware of this company. They are predatory in my opinion.

    I took out a loan for $5,000.00, two months into my loan my job cut my pay. My wife and I advised the people at the loan store of our dilemma. When I asked what can be done due to my loss of pay they said they would "redo" my loan or provide some kind of payment arrangement. I arrived to find that they would not redo my loan and no arrangement was available. Springleaf withdrew money from my account without my permission days later. I cancelled my bank account so they could not withdraw anymore funds.

    Now when a payment comes due (I am two months behind on $287.00) they call me and my wife at least 8 times a day from various numbers throughout the day for a payment and call my references. The one time I did try to speak with someone by phone (after they called me at work and threatened me) they were rude and very condescending.. Another time I sent them a payment via certified mail to make sure they got it and they refused it (actual statement from post office). Is it that serious for $287.00? I work in B2B receivables and was a retail debt collector for 5 yrs, I do know the rules of the FDCPA and if I were to speak to a customer as they do I would be fired on the spot..

    I got a small car loan out from Springleaf. Under $4k. I made 3 payments of about $200 each and then wanted to pay my loan off. I called ** at the Crest Hill location and he told me that they pay off was only $30 less than the initial amount I took out. So where did the $600 worth of payments I made go? TO FRONT LOADING INTEREST. THIS IS THE SCAM PEOPLE. They take all of your initial payments and pocket it until get to the balance owed. DO NOT USE THEM. I asked ** about this and he LIED to me. He told me that I could make 6 payments and get my credit up then pay it off. When I asked him about the bad advice he said "sorry hunny this is how we make our money." Spring Leaf is one of those horrible "Payday Loan" places with a green wrapper. Don't do it!!

    When I contacted Springleaf Financial I didn't think I would have a chance of getting a loan. My credit is not that good right now and I am struggling to re-establish it. When I explained what I needed the money for, they went to work on getting it for me. I have no idea what they did but my loan was approved within 24 hours.     As far as I'm concerned, this is the best by far personal loan company around. My customer service rep, **, kept in contact, was kind and professional, and got the work done that needed to be done in order to expedite my loan. I'm very happy with the online support as well, and tracking my loan online and making online payments is very important to me. The people who contacted me were very kind, and I can't tell you how much kindness matters no matter who you're asking for a loan!     Springleaf Financial needs to be investigated for predatory lending. When a financial institution charges 30%-35% for a loan, this is obviously a loan no one can afford; especially people of color and those with bad or no credit. This is taking advantage of consumers, for sure!

    Couple of days ago I've applied for a personal loan online and received an approval from Springleaf with a condition to bring in most recent income verification. Well without any concerns about my income I was ready to heading until I get a call from the San Fernando branch to verify my info and have me come in. Now after **, the loan agent on the phone asked about my job status and income information, asked me to provide me with my car information and title of my car. Pretty much in a very deceiving way trying to qualify me for an auto title loan. That's where I knew that I just wasted my time.

    Springleaf should not advertise a personal loan or debt consolidation if all they do is give out title loans. I should've read their reviews before applying. Guys don't be fooled! If you have good credit apply at a credit union. Better chances and a lower interest rate. They just ran my credit twice and pretty much denied me for a personal loan.

    I called this company on Monday when I received a pre-qualified secured loan offer in the mail. The lady asked me all my personal information then pulled my credit. She told me that I met the criteria and said that someone would be calling me shortly to go over the loan. She gave me a number to call in case they did not get in touch with me. I called it today and it's a number to some sports shop! I'm a bit upset as this company has all my personal information now and I'm starting to think it's a bogus company!!!!

    Springleaf Financial was able to provide my family and I with the funds needed to pay off outrageous loans that had extremely high interest rates. By offering us the amount of money needed for pay offs, they helped us decrease the interest rate more than 50%. Now we have one payment instead of three.     My experience has been horrible. I obtained a loan from Beneficial in 2004 with monthly payments at $178. I became so angry when I realized the principal had not decreased with more than 10 years of payments! My balance was never reduced due to the extremely high interest rate. I was laid off and became extremely behind with this account. I applied for a loan modification by submitting the required documents. After a number of phone calls, letters, lost paperwork, I was denied. I was denied because my debt ratio exceeds my income. To date, they have done nothing to assist me in becoming current nor assist me with the unusually high payments. From my estimate, I have paid over $20,000 and my balance has not changed! Springleaf is more concerned with its revenue!

    We took out a loan through them. Our payments were sometimes late, but we still paid. They decided that wasn't good enough. They froze our bank account. We spoke to their lawyer and offered to have a reasonable amount garnished from our checks and Springleaf wanted no part of that. They instead court ordered a large amount of garnishment each week... so much that we won't be able to pay all of our bills. I don't recommend anyone go here for financial help. You'll regret it. We do.

    Updated on May 12, 2015: This is an extended review from my earlier post. Long story short, SL was being paid, late, but paid. They got finicky and decided to garnish. We offered a reasonable garnishment and they refused saying they wanted 25% each week. I posted here and the executive office of customer care intervened. The local branch here (Lafayette Indiana) agreed to garnish $50 a week. They sent us the paperwork and we signed it, agreeing to allow the $50, and sent it back. And they have taken 25% of each check since then anyways.

    Our mortgage payment will not be paid now thanks to them. I have a copy of the $50 a week agreement they filed so why are they still doing the 25%? Ridiculous. I'd also like to add that my issue is with the local SL branch here and that I have no issues with the executive office of customer care. The executive office was very polite to me and did what they could to resolve this issue. It's the local branch here that are being shady.

    I recently applied online and was approved for a loan. I was then contacted by a Springleaf representative informing me to provide proper documents to secure loan. I took documents he asked for but when I got there he then asked me several other questions. I assumed this establishment was based on your credit rating but rep then asked for the title to my vehicle. I immediately refused then walked out. This place should be called Springleaf title loan because that's all it appears to be. Waste of time in my opinion.

    In 2008, my parents took out a loan for my son - $12,000 - and our minimum payment was $181.00 but we decided to pay $245.00 a month, thinking the more we pay, the faster this account will be paid off. Well as of today 03/26/2015, the balance is still $11,700.00. It is such a shame, my parents never realized that they were being charge 24% of interest. So when we make a 245.00, only a few dollars goes to the principle, so we have paid out $17,670 and still owing this company $11,700. When does it end? We will never get this paid off. It will take 20 years. How can companies get away with this? There has to be an end like car loans, how they give you a certain amount of time to pay off a car, you don't just keep paying that company. My parents are elderly and this company is taking advantage of them. Shame on you guys.

    I took out a loan in 2005 for $12,000. I should have looked at the fine print, 28% interest, and prepayment penalties. Ten years later of payments of nearly $300 a month and I owe $10,100 and my pay off amount is $10,800!!!! I have called willing to settle this account but they will not take less than much more than I have. Borrower's beware. This high interest and high pay off should be illegal. Writing my Congressman next!

    Don't believe the letter you receive - or be sure to read the legal mumbo-jumbo. I detest loan companies that build false hopes for potential customers, and looking at other reviews, most probably is best I did not get approved. The claim is $4250.00 for $153.67/month at 25.37%. This is only bait for those who have poor credit and have to accept this, as who in their right mind would pay this interest. For those of you who just don't pay your bills and have bad credit- tough. For those of you who do your best and have had credit issues due to the failing health and imminent loss of loved ones you do your best to take care of, at the cost of anything-including medical care, medication, and to make the short times left of their lives more comfortable, at whatever cost, you understand. Just don't fall for it, do your best, and take care of those around you. Thank you.

    I have contacted Springleaf Financial in regards to a bad experience I had with them to see what type of resolution that we can work out. I am several payments behind on my loan. I have been working per diem at my current job since November 2014. As of this month I will be going to regular full-time. Last Tuesday March 3rd I sent an email to the executive of customer care. I hadn't received any type of reply to my email. So on the 7th of March I sent a follow-up email to find out if they had received the previous email.

    I felt ignored since I email them for my issue. Also on the 7th I sent an Facebook Private Message to someone. She/he asked me what the best times on Monday the 9th was good for communication from Springleaf via phone. When I went to reply and give a time and better day for me I was getting a message saying that I didn't have permission to speak with this individual. So I sent another email stating that I was better available on Thursday to discuss my issues.

    I am finding this rather irritating and unprofessional on Springleaf's behalf by ignoring a customer's issues and concerns about their accounts etc. whether it's past due payments etc. I have been told from one of the Customer Service Reps at the Local Office here in Santa Rosa, CA that they will be glad to work with me So I have been doing my best with paying then the branch manager calls me being rude and hostile when I have been told that they will work with me on my account. This Company needs to be held accountable for their poor business practice towards their past and current customers. I have had another loan through Springleaf back in 2008 or so. This is my second and Last Loan I will do with this business. And I will not refer any of my friends or family.

    This institution made it very easy for to get a personal loan. I applied online and was given the approval the next day because it was on a weekend when I applied. The next day someone called me back and said I was approved for the whole amount which was $4,000! All I did was go in and signed paperwork and took my check stubs and other paperwork which they required. Overall my experience was great. I do have to say that the interest is kind of high but I only need the money for a few months and since there isn't any penalties or interest if I pay early - it works for me. I would definitely recommend this place only for emergencies and if you are able to pay the loan back soon. Good luck with your loan needs.

    Normally I haven't had any problems with this branch. Up until recently, everything has been pretty professional. Calling someone a liar and being argumentative isn't the way to do business especially when the payment cleared the bank the day of your call.

    My wife and I live on SSI Disability alone. Over the past two months our 16 year old car developed both muffler and brake issues.     I will never use Springleaf again! Last year, my wife and I got a personal loan for $2,000 and our payments were $175 a month, which in a few months went down to $134. However we were told that paying more than the amount due the extra would go to our principal loan amount, so we continued to pay $175 even though each bill we got was for $134. Then in December, I called to get a payoff quote in which I was told it would be $2,300. $300 more than my original loan amount but fine I wanted to get it taken care of in a couple months so I continued my $175 payment for 2 months.

    Then called in February and was told my payoff amount was $2,800! I addressed that in December it was only $2,300 and was informed that it was actually $2700. And that I was collecting interest on the $6,000 that I would have ended up paying at the 3yr end of my loan if I did not pay it off early. So I asked about the extra $40 a month I'd been paying and was told that since I had been consistently paying $175, they changed our monthly payments to that amount. However my statements still reflected $134 as my amount due. Since I'm working on enough money to pay it off so I can be done with it, I am now not even one month late and my wife and I are receiving 1-2 calls per day from Springleaf. Very dissatisfied and I do not recommend to anyone!

    I got a loan from Springleaf. I had in the past received high rate loans from payday type loans paid them off no problem. I was going along fine with the super high interest payments and terms of this loan, but after nearly a year I had an emergency and spoke with a representative at the local branch inquiring if they had a grace period, so I could adjust bills according to my emergency. She said, "No, but what we could do is readjust the loan so you can skip this one payment." She was so seemingly sweet and understanding. I asked her several times, “This will not change anything on the loan will it? It’ll just add one more month to the loan?” I got over and over again from her, "Oh yes everything will be exactly the same. This is just so we can help you out." So I went ahead and "adjusted" so I would not have to worry about that one month.

    A few weeks later I got a statement and noticed my balance had increased over $1,000. I called the company and they said that was for the interest on the $200... And that they never told me nothing would change. WHY would someone knowingly and honestly informed trade a $200 payment for an extra >$1000 dollar bill… I would of rather borrowed the payment from a family member. But in my state of emergency and her fake kindness and reassurance that everything was exactly the same suckered me into thinking this was a fine company trying to help their customers. I called the Attorney General’s Office... PLEASE DON’T TRUST THIS COMPANY.

    I am happy that I was able to get the loan with my lack of credit history even if it wasn't the amount I requested, I completely understand. Customer service was very polite and professional although at times it was difficult to get a status/return call during the process. They had a difficult time pulling my wife's credit report because they kept spelling her name wrong even though I had spelled it for them several times and issued copies of her driver's license, SS card, etc. with her name spelled correctly. This incident almost caused their fraud software to fail which would eliminated chances for the loan all together. Also, in my opinion, the amount of paperwork needed for this small loan seemed to be overkill. I didn't need that much paperwork for my much bigger car loan. Minus these few minor things, all in all I'm pretty happy with my experience so far and appreciate the opportunity to help build my credit history.

    Bottom line: 7 months of on-time payments and I went to payoff the loan with my tax check and found I had paid off almost nothing on my principal. Their pencil-** methods of accounting make it impossible to discern how much you're being ripped off. They talk to you in terms of what you WOULD owe if your loan went to full term, and 'rebate' what interest you don't 'use', etc. Essentially, I was charged about 49% APR in the 7 months I used their money. This was a secured loan with additional FORCED life insurance protection they require, yet they charge an exorbitant amount of interest (signed for 33%). Don't try to find out payoff information after business hours. Even corporate offices can't tell you (at least that is what line corporate fed me) anything about your account unless it's during the 9-5 business hours.

    For those of us who work for a living, this is inconvenient at the least. I imagine they don't want you paying off your loan, so they make it as inconvenient as possible. I don't buy for a second, the hundreds of positive reviews on this site. I'll wager that a majority of those are by people paid to write positive reviews. No way a company that charges this amount of money and has this bad of policies and customer service can have 4.5 of 5 star ratings. NO way. I wouldn't use them again if my butt were on fire and I had to get a loan to buy a bucket of water.

    I have had my payments automatically deducted every month and paid off early beyond interest that had accrued for a couple days so I assumed that small amount would be taken at the next scheduled payment time. Nope, they took the full payment amount of $296 instead of the $2.67 that was owed. I am told it's how the account was set up which seems asinine to me. How is that my issue? Now I have to wait 21 to 30 days for refund as the account is closed. Glad to be done with this company!

I think it should only report your correct pay off balance and they should change this!

    I recently lost my job and got a bit behind on my payments with this company. Thankfully, I found another job soon after, and was able to make a payment recently to start "catching" up my account. Even after making a good faith payment, the company filed a lawsuit against me for defaulting on the loan. What company in their right mind would file a lawsuit for defaulting on a loan when the loan is only 1 - 2 payments past due? Another unscrupulous business practice that I have experienced with this company is that even though I make a monthly payment to them, if I don't pay the late fee on that payment, they still consider the payment past due. Again, very abnormal, and unconscionable business practices! I will never recommend this company to anyone I know and I do not intend on doing business with them again!

    We had an account with Springleaf for more than 4 years and even during the time that I was unemployed, which was over a year, we did not miss a payment to them and they are holding the title to my car. The final payment of $245.00 was due & as usual I made it online, but for some reason - Springfield's fault or mine - the payment did not go through. When Springfield called, I told them I would have to get my bank statement and check & see what has happened. On receiving my bank statement, I found the payment had not processed. In the meantime, while doing this, we were hounded by John from Springfield. Every day there were messages, he called my husband at work & I asked him not to do that again as my husband did not have his own office to take personal calls.

    The final payment has been made but John proceeded after being told not to do it - he called my husband's place of employment and left a message with his manager to call Springfield Financing. How dare he, who the heck does he think he is? We have lived in our home for over 16 years. We own the home and as I said, over 4 years we have never missed a payment and the final payment to them is messed up for some reason and Mr. BIG JOHN acts as if we are about to flee the country with his company's $245. His behavior is unacceptable especially when he was specifically told not to call my husband's place of employment. I will never recommend Springleaf to anyone and we will definitely never be a customer again.

    I have been trying for months to pay off my loan with Springleaf Financial, but because they screwed up I'm now paying more. My ex-wife filed for bankruptcy and even know she did not claim Springleaf Financial under her bankruptcy they still sent what was supposed to be my last payment off to my ex-wife's bankruptcy trustee. Long story short I had to get my ex-wife's bankruptcy lawyer to contact Springleaf. I had to pay an extra payment because they sent mine off to a trustee. Springleaf told me I'd need to contact the trustee to reclaim my money they refused and the trustee told me I'd have to contact Springleaf because it was their incompetence and never should have been sent to the trustee in the first place.

    Now a month later I check my account online to make sure my balance is at $0.00 because I made that extra payment to just get the loan paid so I didn't have to deal with this anymore. Now my account shows I owe $30.97 and every day it is accruing interest. But now I'm told I can't pay the loan off because my ex-wife's bankruptcy is covering the $30.97.

    Springleaf also claims the trustee is now returning my payment to Springleaf but I'll have to wait another week for them to review my account all while interest is still accruing. Interest accruing because of their incompetence of a loan that should have been paid off months ago. Not to mention the horrible customer service. Not even a "sorry sir we'll get this taken care of for you" not one remorseful word had come from their mouth even know they've acknowledged this whole disaster was their mistake. I can't wait to be done with this company

    I took a personal loan out with Springleaf. I only had the loan for almost a year. There were a few occasions where I was late and the personnel hounded me with endless calls to me and even to my relatives. I recently paid off the loan only to find out that they took money out of my personal checking account after I paid them off. My personal account went into the negative and I was told that I would get a check by mail in 15 days and that I would get any compensation for them stealing my money. My weekly pay check goes to the overdrawn account so I will not have any money due to their mistake. When I was late, I paid a fee so to be told that I will have to wait and will not get compensated is a crime to me. How can you take my money from my account after I have paid you off??? I think I will have to take legal actions to get this settled.

    I had paid off my full loan Jan. 05, 2015, with a statement from them to confirm this, yet I was told by their Corona Branch that it takes 10 days for them to clear the check that I sent. I called for over a week and a half, and the answer I get they mailed the check for the refund Jan 20, 2015 and it now Jan. 30th, 2015 and still not received my payment. There should be a penalty for them like there is one for the consumer.

Total payment: 186.40; interest charges $112.12; principal $74.28; balance owed: $4340.43! This is $611.12 more than I borrowed. Why? The interest rate I was originally quoted was at least 1.50 lower than the one I was charged. I'd like this clarified before I inquire of the bank commissioners.

    Last year I used Springleaf for the first time ever and the loan was to help me build my credit. After paying off the loan I had gotten a new job and it was temporary and the representative ran my credit before she asked me if my employment was permanent or temporary. That had given me a hard inquiry on my credit and brought my credit score down. The home I wanted to buy is no longer on the market and it has been a terrible year for me. Recently on January 16th 2015 I received a check in the mail that stated they inadvertently overcharged me for a Loan Processing fee. This business is unprofessional and I will never promote or use it again especially after the fact that I contacted them about the hard inquiry and they told me it was my fault. The hard inquiry was unauthorized and should have been erased. I have lost the home I wanted for me and my family due to the unprofessional service. The calls were even reported but no one called me back like they said they would to remove the hard inquiry. I am unsatisfied!!!

    I had purchased the unemployment insurance as part of the loan. Unfortunately, I got laid off & needed to file a claim to utilize the insurance. Everything went well the 1st 5 months - the last payment they made was November 2014. I mailed in the paperwork for December, spoke to Pam at the local branch, sent her a copy of the claim paperwork & backup & still no payment for December or January at this point. The insurance makes up to 12 payments on the claim therefore it is not a situation where the claim is exhausted. Now I got a credit alert from my credit card that I have a late payment reported. Why would I be penalized for their screwup? By the way, I am rebuilding my credit & have a 100% payment history for the past 2 years. They have just taken that away from me!!

    I applied for a loan on the internet at the end of November. I was approved but when I went into the local branch, was told it was for less due to my W2 amount being less than what I actually made. Not a big deal. Signed the papers, was told my rate would be 30 something % at 301$/month. I believe this includes the insurances they add on (which I was ok with because you never know what might happen). My frustration is that plans fell through (I got some nice holiday pay and a bonus) so I didn't need the loan. I had the loan for a month and half. I paid the 5000$ back for which I had received the check for in the beginning of December that I cashed and find that I still have a 1650$ balance. I would beware if you intend on paying loans back early because you might end up paying a lot more than you anticipate. Mine was for 5 years so I would end up paying 18000$ for a 5000$ loan. So now I have to pay 1650$ for a loan I paid back after only having it a month and a half.

    Since I moved from Phila., PA to Atlanta, GA, my experience with Springleaf has been horrible. I had to re-register my car on my birthday (11/4/2014) but was denied because my title had not submitted to GA DMV by Springleaf. Why was I not aware of this? Ken and Jon at the Conyers, GA location have been very helpful, but I am angry and frustrated with Springleaf as a company in the handling of my situation. It has been two months too long.     I was reviewing my loans in December and seen where my interest rate was 23.99% instead of 18% that the original paper was sign for. I talked to them and they told me that a letter was sent out in the mail and that I had 2 months to respond to it before it went into effect. I did not receive any such letter. They did send me a copy of the letter and stated that once I got the letter that they were "helping me off the loan quicker". I requested that they change the credit percent back to the original rate and to close the line of credit. I feel that I have been cheated and deceived.

    In the past I have been late in making payments (my fault) and they immediately start harassing me with their non stop calls. They even called me at work numerous times, even after they were told I am not allowed to take personal calls there and I asked them not to call me at work. They just didn't care. I caught up with my payments, but now I am behind again, and I have been communicating with a rep via e-mail. It seems like that's not enough, I have been receiving phone calls from a Monique, and she even called my references I listed on my application to contact me. I was never told they were going to call me so many times if I ever fell behind on my payments, or that they'd contact my references. I know my rights as a consumer, and if they keep calling in a way I feel harassed, I plan in seeking legal action.

    I contacted spring leaf finance in redding ca to apply for a loan on 12/12 2014. Spoke with shannon, a rep at that location to obtain a loan. Well ok, she made it sound like "no problem, we can do this for you but we will need you to refinance your car." Basically go from 28 mos on a payoff with my finance co to them for 48 mos. Also give them title to my truck and pay another 32 or so mos to pay off their loan to me. I'd also have to drive 9 hrs round trip to sign papers.

    So the following, well, I contacted shannon and she said I needed this and that for the loan to verify my residence. A bank statement truck title this that. Ok, got it together. "Ok, call your other loan place to see what the payoff is" - all seems fine. Then no response. "We will call you back" then the run around began. We will call you - all kinds of shannons out on the phone. So I finally got her on the phone 12/19 /2014 Fri. She's like "oh, you were declined." This co is crazy. They want so much collateral. They want your life. It seems I was so stressed.

    They made me believe I was getting a loan, no problem then ignored me. Was I made arrangements for getting to redding, cancel my dental appt, borrowed more cash for fuel to get there. Then blew me off. And the other employee, her name is chris, was telling me "yes you got this info and when do you want to come in." Then started telling me excuses as to shannon not being available. Good thing I did not drive to redding 4.5 hrs one way. They lie, they don't respond back when they say they will call you. Just horrible.

    I received an unsolicited offer in the mail for a pre approved personal loan from Springleaf financial base on my credit history. I looked at the offer and set it aside, thinking it was a fishing expedition or just a lead generation mailing. I decided just out of curiosity more than a need for funds to check it out.

    I went online to the website as directed by the mailer and filled in the information, and like mailer said, I was pre-approved, just fill out the form and I could pick up a check. Well, I didn't pursue it and just left it alone. Then a couple of hours later I received a call from a company representative from the Gainesville Georgia, **, Asst. Branch Manager, SpringLeaf Financial Services telling me that I was approved for a loan and if I was interested she could have the paper ready for me when I came in and I could pick up a check. I told her that I wasn't interested that I didn't need the money and that their interest rate was way out of line (24%). She told me she would keep my file open for a week or so in case I changed my mind.

    Ok a week goes by, she calls again, and now I'm thinking, ok I could maybe do a short 2k loan instead of the 5k I was pre approved for and said I would think about it. She called a third time to see I was still interested. I told her that I thought I would be interested in doing a small loan in the 2k amount. She sent over the following email, this is a direct cut and paste from her, “I hope that we get to meet this afternoon. When you come in you will need to bring the following items with you: a current pay stub, your driver's license and verification of your social security number. You may use your card, a w-2 or if the last (4) digits show up on your pay stub, If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call.” So I said ok, I would come to the office to pick up the check and bring the information that she had requested. I told it would take a couple of hours for me to drive there. I was about 100 miles away from where she’s located from my work. I told her I would be there later that afternoon.

    Upon arrival, that's where things went wrong. Once I arrived she started asking questions that I wasn't prepared for. She started asking for collateral, I asked what for that I thought this was a pre approved signature loan. She said that she just needed it for question on the computer. At this point I am thinking, I am being scammed into a collateral loan. Then she said that she would also need personal references and numbers. This is when I stopped the whole deal. I feel at this point that I had been mislead on the entire deal, not only did I waste 3 hours of my time, I wasted 25$ in gas. These people are predators looking for people that need help, misleading them up until the time that they are in the office to fill out the paper work. If I had been told up front this was going to be a collateral loan I would have never even responded to the mailer or the pre approved offer.

    I would never recommend these people to anyone. They charge interest rates as high as credit cards and they are not up front with you as to the type of loan, you are not pre approved, you are just a lead for the office. BEWARE.
