I think this credit card is good. They give you increases over time and the rate is what is expected for someone with less than perfect credit. Good for rebuilding. Do not care for the annual fee at all. That's the only disappointment. Wish after a time period of good history it could go away.

Merrick offered us credit when no one else would. We have always paid cash and lived within the concept of "if I don't have the money then I don't need it." We don't like to owe anyone for anything. Well, we decided we wanted to buy a house and in order to do so, we needed to establish credit. Merrick came to our rescue and as a result opened many doors for us in the credit world. We have been very diligent with our credit and still spend cautiously. We have been pre-approved for our home and expect to close shortly. The APR is high but we have sidestepped most of that by being responsible and routinely paying off the balance. We were high risk so this was expected. Overall a big thank you to Merrick.

Back in 2011 I ran into some financial hardship, I lost my job, and had to file bankruptcy. Since then I've been working very hard trying to build my credit back up. Merrick Bank gave me a chance. Thank you for letting me prove myself. Not only did you trust me with a credit line, you increased it prior to the year for review. I appreciate Merrick Bank very much.

I like the fact that when you show you are paying payments consistently Merrick rewards you with credit line increase.. I love the convenience of mobile app to manage your account. Online pay as well is great.

Well based on the number of reviews regarding customer experience, website navigation woes and problems when closing accounts. I will not try for this card. That's too much headache. You really need to read the bad reviews and do what you can to ensure that your contracted customer service representatives are representing your company in a manner that keeps your customers.

I have been extremely satisfied with my account with Merrick Bank. It's very easy to use and really convenient to have my Merrick Card on hand when I need it. I recently lost my credit card. When I called it in I was charged a 15 dollar fee. Why I don't know and no explanation was given to me. I asked if it could be waived and was told no. Other credit card services like Capital One doesn't penalize their customers for a lost or stolen card.

Merrick Bank has been a good card to have. The initial pre-approved "offer" was better than other cards and there were no 'gotchas' or fine print tricks along the way. My limit was doubled as promised after 7 months. Very satisfied.

It seems solid. Nothing outstanding. I'm a little disappointed that I don't have a PIN and chip card. The website seems very archaic and not full service compared to credit cards like Capital One. Overall, I'm satisfied with the service they provide. I just wish they were a little more with the times, including better UI/UX experience for the website and a mobile app.

Merrick Bank offered me a credit card with 0% interest rate to start with. When I proved myself with them, they increased my credit limit. Have no problems with them. Certain sites I go to, I get a discount if I use this card. I would recommend them to anyone!

They are consistent with this. Takes small amounts if you use it. Credit utilization goes up fast because of small amount increases. That can hurt sometimes but a good card to have.

My experience with Merrick Bank has been simply amazing. I was offered a card that would double my credit offer in just 6 months as long as I maintained payment of my balance on time. I did maintain on-time payments and I received my credit line increase as promised. Only issue I had was when I went to work at the hospital, I had my wallet in my pocket when I entered the MRI room and the magnet erased my card. I called to see if the card could be replaced and Merrick Bank stated there is a fee... sad face... It should be replaced without a fee in my honest opinion. That is the reason I give them a 4/5 stars.

The online bill payment never works, the automatic withdrawal never works and I'm always and to go on I make manual payment every single month. I have called in several times to fix this and has never been fixed - actually very tired. I've always tried to make sure that my payments are on.

The card is very reliable. They have easy options to help keep up with your card. The app is awesome, allows you to do everything online. Pay your bill, review your purchases and keep up with your balance. Also if you stay in good standing you have automatic increases!

I have a credit card with Merrick Bank. My bill is always accurate. When I need customer service it is always readily available. This bank is one that does what it says it will do and rewards my on time bill payment with increasing credit limits and cash availability.

At first I thought this was a good credit card company. Then when I noticed a questionable charge on my account I log onto my account to file a challenge to that charge. That was when I realized there is no such possibility on the website. I further noticed that other services on the web offered by ALL my other credit cards did not exist on the site. In all instance you are required to telephone the 800 number. However if you travel a lot, as I do, and do not have access to a US 800 number, then this is useless. I emailed customer service twice about the problem. Not once have I received acknowledgement of those emails let alone a resolution to the problem.
For months there has been an indication that the website is being upgraded to include these necessary customer services. Such has not happened yet and it really doesn't take that long. In summary, this is a credit card company that is willing to take you money, but shuns all attempts to provide necessary customer service.

Although I am satisfied with the automatic increases on my credit card account, I wonder how that is being determined by the bank itself. I have never requested for an increase in the past but I was always notified that the amount has been increased without my requesting for it. I would have preferred that the bank would withhold any increases on my credit card amount unless I request for it in the first place.
So, this note should serve to inform the bank that I do not wish to have anymore increases on my credit card account unless I request for it. And I would not accept any further automatic increases going forward, and from this day on 2/24/2016. Thank you for your consideration of this request! Would very much appreciate it!

I am very unhappy with this company. I have been a customer for several years, always paid on time, never late. Last month I requested an updated card reflecting my married name and not only did they not send the card but they apparently billed maintenance fees on this new card that I never received! They reported me late to the credit bureaus due to no fault of my own. I paid this $14.00 and closed my account. Now I have to dispute this with this late report with the credit bureaus. The customer service at Merrick is virtually non-existent. Those reps have no interest in retaining your business as a customer and are eager to close your account. I have filed a BBB claim and hope this matter gets resolved quickly. I am going to write about this experience on every consumer site I can find letting the world know how horrible these people treat customers, even those with excellent credit.

They froze my account on Jan. 14 after a $750 payment for no reason, and couldn't tell me why. Then they told me to unfreeze it, I would have to fax in some documents, I had to do that four times. They finally said they received my fax on the 27th of January and that my card would be mailed two days later. The card never arrived so they then told me they would ship my new card the following Monday on the 1st, so I called every day to this day which is the 5th and have heard at least 30 different stories from... "The card has shipped, hasn't been shipped, hasn't been developed, will be shipped today, will be shipped tomorrow, will be shipped on the 8th." Basically the moral of the story is these people stole my money and continue to lie about it being shipped out, so I think anyone who opens a card with this company is a damn fool, and if I don't get any answers soon, they will have to speak to my lawyer.

I lost my card. Instead of having the usual bank reaction of being thankful I notified them ASAP, they responded with a $15 fee to send me a new card. Out of all the credit cards I've had lost or stolen, this is the ONE AND ONLY bank to charge me for a new card! I frequently use all my cards and usually carry balances; however, due to this outrageous action, I've simply put this one away in my filing cabinet. I got online to write them about how I've been ripped off, they don't even have a way to contact them without sending a physical letter! I literally can't believe this company can get away with calling itself a bank! They stole $15 from me when I don't even have a bank account with them! They would be THE LAST people I'd trust to keep my money safe.

It has been a pleasant experience with Merrick Bank. My payments have been made and posted timely on their website, which is easy to navigate. I read online that Merrick Bank had a reputation of posting online payments as late to credit card accounts (I have never had this happen to my account) so I always set up my online payment at least two weeks before the due date. Signing up for the paperless billing is a convenience offered to customers that I took advantage of. Merrick Bank includes a free FICO score available online too. I have never had this card not accepted wherever I needed to use it. Merrick Bank also increased my credit limit after six months as advertised. Overall, I cannot think of any complaint about my Merrick Bank account and I have had a pleasant experience.

I like the card overall. The design is nice and it's good to have a Visa card in your wallet. I think you should offer your "upgraded" cards for a cheaper price. The only thing that I don't much care for is the monthly fee to be a cardholder. Makes no sense to me. At least make it cheaper or something.

Because of mistakes made in my youth getting a credit card has been a struggle but this year I was issued a credit card with a respectable limit and even had my limit increased within the year. Having all my efforts to be financially responsible recognized by a nationwide financial institution feels amazing and motivates me to continue to strive to always be careful with the use of my credit and fulfill my commitment with my creditors. I definitely recommend Merrick Bank to everyone wether it's your first card or you are looking for that second chance.

I want to say I never fill these reviews out! With that said I broke that rule for Merrick Bank. This bank stood by me at a low point when few would. Always treating me with dignity and respect. When I needed to grow they listened and helped me. Now I'm back and Merrick is big part of me getting back on top in 4 short years. Thanks a lot for not making me just a number and a percentage.

I was told after making 5 on-time payments I would have my limit doldrums from $600 to $1200! Never happened even after I passed the 5 payments.. The card itself is not bad but they should keep their word...

Lost a card from this company. They wanted to charge 15.00 for a new card. Meanwhile they charge 4.00 a month just to have an account. Thanks for making my credit score higher. However, I will be closing this account due to their rude and unprofessional staff. Very nasty, didn't even offer to close the card. what irresponsible credit card company does that? They would rather charge me 15.00 for a new card and let someone use my lost card. Shame on your company and employees. I will never use your company ever again!!! Even if I ruin my credit and you're the last bad credit, credit card company in the world!!!

Called in regarding being double billed, customer service rep didn't seem to know why. I've had the card several years with a great score (700's) with no CLI for whatever reason, never late, never carry a balance, pay in full for small charges. Can't say that it didn't help my score but right now it's hurting being such a low limit, with all of the prime cards I have with generous limits, I have to cancel Merrick.

Merrick was the first new credit card I got after clearing up prior debts and a foreclosure through bankruptcy. I was very reluctant to open a new account, but also knew I needed to begin to rehabilitate my credit. Merrick's application and approval process was fair, and the information provided by them regarding fees was honest. I have been very careful to ensure my minimums and usually more were paid each month, and I have appreciated their timely reminders of statements online. I would absolutely recommend them to a friend going through the same financial issues.

Contacted customer service to inquire about the credit limit increase that was scheduled on occur in November per the pre-approved authorization notice that prompted me to register for this card. The CSR reacted as if my call was an inconvenience to her and tone suggested that I should have known that the increase would occur on 12/29/2015. Very unpleasant. It was obvious that this company only serves the population with credit challenges.

I have had an account with Merrick Bank for years. I get a statement in the mail every month despite signing up for electronic invoices and I pay my bill every month. I kept getting emails from them saying they were unable to deliver to my address (despite getting bill every month) and to click on the link to verify my account. I just assumed it was phishing email, who in their right mind will click on that sort link these days.
When I logged in to pay my bill 5 days early this month as always, I noticed it showed I have no available credit, so I called them. A very rude customer service representative told me my account was closed because they could deliver mail to my address and the account cannot be reopened, they will send me a letter telling me how I might be able to reopen my account. I asked representative and his supervisor "does this make sense to you to close an active that is being paid on time every month", and was told it was closed because I did not verify my account by the email link. I am naturally pretty ticked off that they closed my account, nothing that they said makes any sense, and I think this is unfair credit practices.

Started with them when they were affiliated with Geico. Paid always on time. As they stopped their business with Geico they canceled my account. Called customer services because they were charging me 4.00 a month even with my cancelled account. They refused to waive the charge. Thanks God I pay in full. Will never do business with them again.

After writing this review, my account was re-opened. If for any reason you close your bank account be sure to stop any automatic payments before hand or your account will be closed if a payment is returned for a closed bank account. In my case, I closed my account to prevent fraud and was unable to cancel the pending payment.
I am not satisfied because my credit limit should have been increased and due to this it looks like it hasn't.

I had a payment scheduled to pay the full balance on my card as I do every month. However this month's payment was interrupted because I had to close my bank account to prevent fraud and was unable to cancel my pending credit card payment scheduled for the next day. The payment was consequently returned. I then paid the full balance with my other bank account. I then received a letter stating my account was closed due to my account performance with Merrick bank. I called and spoke to a representative and then a supervisor and was told to send in verification that I had an open account. (I obviously have an open account because I paid the full balance) I had my bank fax the requested information. I then received another letter stating Merrick bank was unable to reopen my account due to your account performance with Merrick bank.
I called and spoke to several customer service agents and the same supervisor 2 times who informed me first to get the letter from my open account then that I needed to get a letter faxed in from my closed bank account with the reason why the account was closed. I had my bank fax in the requested verification. I then received another letter stating my account performance for the reason for not reopening my account. There are no clear rules or procedures and Merrick bank will gladly waste your time and tell you to send in verifications but after you do send in exactly what they request they will still not reopen your account. Their loss - I paid my credit card every month on time and in full. I just do not appreciate the run around and the negative remarks they unfairly put on my credit.

I've had an account with Merrick Bank Secured Credit Card for around 4 years now. The initial experience was fairly easy. But years later I decided to close the card and was told after 10 minutes of trying to convince me to keep my card open that they would close my card. I was told it would take 2 months to get my money back. A month later I called back because I was getting emails about my new statements being ready??!
I called to see why I was being charged a new monthly card fee and why my account still showed open online. The person told me they made a mistake and only closed part of my account, but left the part that had my money in it open. The new representative then tells me he has now closed the account and it will take at least another 2 months for me to get my money. He tells me there is no way to give a confirmation of this action being done and I must take his word on it. He tells me there is nothing more he can do about the wait time due to their error and is unwilling to have me talk to a supervisor who would be able to do more by my request.
The whole point was when they make a mistake they make the customer pay for it. Now my money is tied up with them for another 2 months assuming they did it right this time, all because of their mistake! I will NEVER do business with them again! My recent experience is the worst I've had in a long time! Good customer service is a company that does the best they can for you in good and bad situations. A company that chooses to only provide good service when you are doing something for them, is not a good company!
Beware, if you choose to get a secured card with them! It will help your credit as long as you stay current on payments, the initial experience will probably be somewhat easy, but if you ever want to close the card expect to not get your money back anytime soon! Basically prepare to throw your money away when you open the account and be excited if you end up getting it back.

This is one of the easiest credit card companies I have ever dealt with. Their customer service reps are friendly and knowledgeable. Customer service is easy to contact and they are able to handle just about any issue. If you are looking for a good credit card to help raise your credit score I would recommend this one.

My checking account where my monthly auto payments to Merrick Bank was compromised. My checking account was frozen for any outgoing account, during that time I have a pending payment to Merrick Bank. My checking account fraud specialist stated that she is not sure if that payment will go through. When I checked online the payment was posted. The following week I got a mail from Merrick that the payment was returned due to checking account was frozen. I immediately paid off whatever is the balance using my new checking account. I followed up and the payment was applied but still my available credit is zero.
I called customer service and she made me feel like it was my fault and it was my intention to use a high risk checking account for payment and that my account was CLOSED. I was never informed that my account was closed. I cannot believe how argumentative and COLD this woman is insisting it was my FAULT. If you are a mother who lives paycheck to paycheck, this will impact your family's entire month's budget. If I known that the account was closed I could have paid the balance in payment terms not all at once. Now I don't have cash nor card. How am I suppose to feed my family and pay off my bills?

Great card but I just wish my interest rate was lower and my credit limit was a little bit higher. If I had about an 3000 dollar limit with a lower interest rate I would have rated this 5 stars. Customer service is good, the app needs to be more up to date. Other than these few things this is a good card to have if you are starting to build credit. Rewards are not as great as my Amex or Capital One card but like I said this is a good starter card.

I've had my account for several months now, they don't keep up with my transactions with my spending so I never know really how and what I've used my card for and the true amount that I am able to use out of my balance. When I have changed payment dates which I have only done one time I got charged for non payment because they didn't update my payment status so I was charged late fees and when I called them and told them they never returned my late charge and they were the ones I called to change my payment date. I just wish I could use my account without having to worry about overspending. They need to keep up with account status. Also I have never gotten any credit increase, I've had my account since the beginning of the year.

I have no complaints about the user part of my credit card but I would like to not have a fee on top of the interest. Then I am paying interest on the fees. I appreciate the raised credit limit because it came in handy during a difficult time. Since I have made timely payments and usually pay more than the minimum payment I think that my credit score should be a bit higher to reflect that I do so.

This card was recommended to me by a family member. I've found that with bad credit, many banks are not willing to take a risk in someone trying to rebuild their credit. Merrick Bank gave me a chance to not only rebuild my credit, but to prove myself as a reformed credit risk. My credit score has increased since obtaining Merrick's card and they have surprised me multiple times by increasing my credit line without me having to ask. I would recommend this card as a great starter card to anyone looking for a second chance. The only thing I would change is the higher interest rate but, when you're a risk, you take the good with the bad!
