The last time that my family used H & R block, we received less than half of what our refund could have been. They charged a ridiculous amount and, this year, when we filed our taxes elsewhere, we found out that no one had submitted our tax credit documents from purchasing a high efficiency h-vac system from the year before!!! We definitely got ripped off. I will never go back and never ever recommend to anyone.

Just spent an hour and a half prepping My taxes, get to the state portion and it says I have to pay some additional fees to do it. Fine, let's see what they are and if it helps, they wanted to charge me $60 for I literally can't even tell what they wanted to add, but when I downgraded the service because I didn't want to pay an additional $60 for nothing, it took away my entire tax return and all of the upgrades not just the most recent one that I wanted. Didn't even ask me if I wanted to clear out the 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours of work I had just done, just arbitrarily took it all away. They also got me audited last year because their accuracy review apparently isn't accurate. Just find someone local.

I do my own taxes and I still have to pay $150 to use the software and to get my money I worked hard for all year?! Enticed with a $45 discount, citing no promo needed, and then I sign in and there is only a $5 early bird discount. Tf? I chat with customer service to no avail. None of the promo codes online work. Just predatory by design. Shut down already.

Just for the record H&R Block in Mifflinburg Pa. is a nightmare. Went there to file my taxes this year 2026. My tax preparer couldn't even file a 1040 form. I had to get a second preparer to help finish my taxes. Then it got even worse. H7R Block guaranteed me my tax return would back by February 28 2026. On the 30th I got a letter from the IRS stating more information was needed. I took the letter to their office. My tax preparer said I had to fix it and refused to help me. After making repeated calls and trips to their office they sent me an email saying I was not allowed to call them or go to their office. They basically made a mess and told me I had to clean it up.
Needless to say we are going to end up in court and I'm also waiting on a response from the FBI about filing criminal charges against them. Their egos are out of this world and their IQ is below the average level. Jackson Hewitt is trying to fix things for me. They are more professional and very honest. BEWARE OF H&R BLOCK!!

I have used Turbotax for last 5 years. Thought I would try H&R since their fees went up. I had to enter everything because H&R doesn't connect to Merrill Lynch. Got through federal and state and just needed to enter estimated tax payments. There was no place to enter even using their AI guidance. Started a chat. They would not answer my question because I am doing the return for my mom. Told them she had died so tough for her to give consent. They wanted me to start over. I am. But not with them.

I'm reporting a software problem to H&R Block and they won't attempt to fix it or provide a workaround. If you have a RMD and a Roth conversion in same tax year and you are compliant with IRS regulation which requires that the RMD precedes the Roth conversion then their product insists you have an excess contribution to a retirement account. Even if you have not made a contribution for years. My wife made the last contribution the year she retired in 2017. Having spent hours trying to get an answer from H&R Block it's clear they are trying to run out the clock. This has been going on for at least six weeks.. Paid $57.24 for deluxe plus state for 2025 tax year and have used their software for over 20 years. No more. I cannot file my taxes because the program wants you enter a number (excess contribution during correction period). Since there was no excess contribution I can't enter a number that doesn't exist.

H and R block is terrible, I had return send to their emerald card under the impression I would load a lil quicker, they should’ve known that by me always having it deposited into my checking account over the years that it would raise a red flag, I had to identify myself which caused a month delay, then I couldn’t get the money off the card like they said at the bank because my name wasn’t on the card then only $1000 a day instead of the $3000 they said at atm, if it wasn’t for Apple Pay the $ would still be on the card, they're liars, they must get a commission for pushing the emerald card, TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED. THEY SUCK BIG TIME!!!!

I called customer service to get some help with getting into my account and they told me they could not help me. I would need to make a new email address and then make a new account if I wanted to use H&R Block to file my taxes. I didn't care the fact that I've been with them for over 15 years. What is going on? Why do companies not care about the customers anymore?

Very disappointing experience with H&R Block. My appointment with Michele Wax (11 yr experience) felt rushed from the start, and important information was missed when my return was filed. The return was submitted without required identity verification (IP PIN), which caused it to be rejected by the IRS. This is basic information that should have been confirmed during the appointment, especially during a paid professional service. The issue still has not been corrected, and the return remains unresolved due to the mistake during preparation.
When my wife and mother went into the office simply to ask questions about what happened and how it would be fixed, they were met with a hostile response and were even threatened with the police instead of being helped. For the price charged, I expected a careful and professional process. Instead the appointment was rushed, important details were missed, and the problem still hasn’t been resolved. Because of this experience, I believe a full refund of the preparation fee is absolutely justified.

I been kept in the dark by H&R Block as to why my partnership forms cannot be e-filed. Reading other’s input, it appears in my area agents were told not to discuss the inability to process completed tax forms by e-file. That way not knowing, a customer will be required to make a payment then forced to mail returns. This agency still collects the payment with full knowledge the agency is unable to provide the full service (e-file). I applied a stop payment on my bank check the next day upon being notified my returns were not processed.
I called out to mid MA and a manager spoke to my area’s manager. I was informed by this manager he would locate an agent who could upload forms correctly to e-file. Reading it appears new software being used has glitches. I am moving my personal and partnership to another company. Primarily no one needs to blame an agent for software problems. Second I was promised a return call that day. None received, nor today. Deadline looms. With cuts in IRS and MA it’s stressful. Will my filings be properly delivered? Then will my forms be uploaded correctly at IRS if some of the glitches appear on the forms?

FTC is unequivocally correct in saying H&R Block use bait and switch tactics! I was emailed a discount for $28 to file my taxes from the $35. I paid them last year. The website was terrible to navigate even for the people working there. Didn’t know what they were doing. My $28 was $100. I was finally able to delete all my progress and exit the website. I was told, "Oh you have to check our website because prices change constantly." What a joke and the junk software program. I went to FREE TAX USA and WOW! They were very easy to navigate, efficient and very accurate. Day and night difference.

I took all our information to H&R Block and launched Colorado after promises that they would call us back, never called back. A week later, we had another appointment to bring in more paperwork and their promise of checking last year previous year's taxes, they kept that copy and all the originals. After calling several times to have the preparer to call us back, he never called back fourth time. I was yelling on the phone by the office manager told that she never received the message to give to the preparer.
I canceled all my request with them, ask for my paperwork back. They have kept my paperwork and will not return it even after the laundry police were involved. Call customer service many times, explain this to him that I would like my 2024 tax information back. They will not call me back either. All I would like back is my original information that I gave them, and they are no longer to have this information, and I consider to be my personal property with very sensitive information, and want my private property back. They refuse to give it back to me.

Horrible online software. I have been doing my own taxes online via TurboTax for years without difficulty. This year, because I don't have Windows 11, and not ready to upgrade for various reasons, I switched to H&R. For starters, it kept deleting my input of data, so I had to keep repeating the input. When I tried to import data from brokerage firms, it didn't even contain my brokerage, which is one of the top ten in the country. Really???? Then it added/subtracted figures incorrectly on my 1040, so I can look forward to hearing from the IRS of the error. Then, the real topper, is that I went back into the program, and it had deleted all of my work! And the winner: I paid 90 bucks for this piece of crap. Buyer beware. Never again. I would rather do it my hand than use this terrible piece of software. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I have used H&R Block tax software for many years. This year was a nightmare. It does not import stock sales correctly into the IRS Form 8949. The phone support was USELESS; they told me to enter > 100 transactions by hand instead of using their own .txf file import, and even then the data was entered into Form 8949 incorrectly. The IRS wants 11 items per copy of this form; the software tries to load 14 items. Three of them simply disappear, yet they are included in the totals for the page. The IRS rejected the return due to this math error. Block said to delete the 3 items per copy and re-enter them in a new copy by hand; guess what, this invalidates the file and it can't be submitted online to the IRS.

My tax taxes were prepared very well as they have been for years. I owed some money to the state and paid it on the spot through H&R Block. The tax payment has not been deducted from my bank account and I do not have a pending payment showing. I called H&R Block and the front desk said they have no way of checking the payment and referred me to the state. Why would I go to the state when I paid h&r block? Please do not pay your taxes through the H&R Block agent. I have no way of knowing when or if the payment will go through leaving in a spot wondering if I make another payment and being double billed. The front desk saw no urgency in the matter. I'll look elsewhere next tax season.

H&R Block Online Premium failed us. I tried to file a Fed, NC state and PA state return. Due to a house sale I couldn’t complete the PA portion because the program said I needed a Pa 119 form which is not included with premium. It said I needed a tax pro to fill out the form but I couldn’t get a tax pro because I didn’t finish the return because I didn’t pay for it but it wouldn’t let me pay because I didn’t complete it. But I couldn’t complete it because of the form. After many attempts to resolve it through on line help they couldn’t help me so I went to a different tax service. If you offer tax service pro help you should be able to get help. This was very frustrating.

I somehow misplaced it and requested a new one when the I saw that my refund has finally arrived. The 1st call to HR Block/Emerald customer service told me to go to office near me & I will be issued a card. I did that bright and early just for nothing to happen. 11 calls with over 320 minutes culminated wait time for each call. I will never used this service again - no one knows anything and every is “sorry” and unhelpful. It’s a costly service for a BIG headache of an experience.

The worst part is she lied about how much it was and for the first time she didn't give me a copy of my return like I've got every year before. She told me it was $440 after telling me the only extra charge was a $40 fee for one extra form. I don't do anything extra. I take the standard deductions blah blah blah. It effectively doubles my income which isn't cool! My main complaint is that there is no one I can contact for help. Their AI sucks and keeps sending me information that I've already followed. The tech support chat was useless and she told me to contact a retail office. They were completely baffled! I tried tech support again getting the same person. When I asked if there was anyone else I could talk to she put me on a link to make a review of the program! There is no way to actually contact anyone for help in any way or form. Feeling very violated and pressured. I have been filing with HR Block for over 10+ years. I had a letter from the IRS show up stating that I had a credit for payments that were being made towards a tax year that they did not show was filed. That should have been the first indication I filed and made arrangements to make payments towards it. EVERY YEAR I schedule my next appointment and pay over $400 to my tax pro for the help in filing them. After showing her (which I will protect her privacy for now) she said she need POA to call on my behalf.
After weeks of asking her where we were at, I got another letter from the IRS stating I never filed. So as you can imagine I now owed almost 4 years of penalty and interest ($7,251). She said they did not see it filed and we would need to mail it again. Yes, we had to mail it the first time because we did an extension. That's the only reason I wasn't aware the IRS never had it. Problem relies on the fact that I did file, I did my part and have a folder to prove it. I paid H&R block for the PRO SERVICE, and the IRS never got it. So therefore, this should all fall under the Accuracy Guarantee, RIGHT? On top of the agent not filing it properly, and then asking for an Abeyance (which I never granted her permission to do) I then got another letter from the IRS stating they denied my approval for such forgiveness on the penalty and interest because it was coded "FAILURE TO FILE!"
Fast forward even further after 3 months of asking for answers, my Tax Pro says she will file a claim with corporate for the Accuracy Guarantee and get back to me, which would cover up to $10,000 of any penalty or interest. I'm having to email her every week for proof of doing so, only to then be told it was denied by Corporate, but no proof of said denial. INFACT, when approached for proof of denial, she then says "well they didn't deny it, it was more that she didn't have enough E&O insurance." Why is that the clients fault?
Then after weeks of more waiting to hear back from her own insurance company, she proceeds to tell me that her insurance agent informed her it would also be denied, but no proof of such claims, right? THEN, she offers to pay me under the table, but only agrees to pay me 60%. Does this scream RED FLAG CITY? Now she won't return my emails, my calls, and tells me that her Attorney has asked her not to respond any further.
I have NOT received a call back from H&R block about my open case (its been more than 5 days). I then emailed client claims, asking for proof (over 3 days) no response. I am currently faced with going to my state legislature Attorney General to help solve my case (which I have), as well as legal representation to get answers to my rights, and reimbursement for the penalty and interest that are not mine to cover (through arbitration and then Civil suit). I WANT ANSWERS! This is so wrong in so many ways.

This is quite possibly the worst tax company I've ever used. I had a return rejected by the IRS due to one minor error with entering a wrong number--I used the agent chat FIVE TIMES TO GET IT RESOLVED and it was the same BS every time. The same instructions were given to me 3 separate occasions, of which none helped me solve the error. In fact, when I was able to review my entire return twice, the page with the error in question wasn't even available for me to review, so of course I couldn't fix the issue--which was so petty it shocked me that they couldn't figure out how to help me fix it. "I promise we'll get this fixed for you," was the response I received twice, but was given the same feedback from agent to agent. I note in Nov 15, that 30% of 13 Amazon users gave the Block 2025 software 1-star (very bad, do not recommend) ratings because of failure on Windows 11. The other positive reviewers gave better reviews because they were describing their previous year use, not 2025. The software was released from Block by email on Thu., 11/14 at 7:31 pm, so any reviews before that time would not be for 2025 software.
It is impossible to get any information on-line or from a real person about this problem from Block. I have tried for several hours with no success. For me and others reporting at Amazon, HR Block has released defective tax software that can't be used on Windows 11. The previous year's software worked well but not this year. Did Block cut back their quality control programmers and now they rely on an AI system that tells them everything was OK. Everything is not OK, and HR Block does not have any guidance on how to obtain functional tax software for Windows 11 computers. Block's on-line help is useless, and their phone numbers provide never ending closed-loop recordings with no opportunity for any resolution of the problem or for a defective product refund.

My family have been using the H&R program for years to file our taxes with no problems. For my 2024 tax return, The IRS denied my tax return. When I went on the program for H&R block to fix it. It had me amend the return which was not what I was supposed to do. I called and talked to somebody and they told me to print off what I had and send that in and I tried and got another decline. I have called and called and called. No one will help me even though I paid for the program. Here it is November and my taxes still are not filed. The IRS has returned or rejected them three times now. H&R block customer service is terrible.

I was advised that she requested extension, but I could not visit her. Later in October I asked her to email me my tax return so we could finalize my tax return. I never received any response from her and she never advised that she can not complete my tax return. I even did not received any tax return documents by email to finish my tax. I am extremely frustrated with my recent experience with H&R Block and feel compelled to share my concerns. After filing my taxes, I requested that my refund be directly deposited into my checking account. Unfortunately, shortly thereafter, my account was flagged for fraud, and the bank closed it. I contacted H&R Block and was told that my refund had been issued as a paper check on May 9th, but I never received it. I was then informed that I would need to wait 90 days before I could submit a client check replacement form. Ironically, after that waiting period, I found the expired check in my mailbox.
On October 3rd, I submitted the check replacement request form via the provided fax number (1-866-446-3370) and received confirmation that it went through. However, when I followed up recently, I was told that the back office had not received my forms, despite my confirmation. This was incredibly frustrating, especially since I was directed to visit a local office, which is a 30+ minute drive away.
During my call with a representative named Justin (Agent ID 2701499), I found the discussion to be quite disheartening. He gave me this email (documents.efsoperations@hrblock.com) to escalate my concerns, as it seems the system is unable to connect effectively with the back office. At the office, I encountered a kind representative who attempted to help but had to resend my fax three times and rely on a chat agent to email my request.
This entire experience has been exceedingly disappointing. I have been waiting since May for funds that I desperately need, and I'm now being asked to wait even longer. My financial situation is precarious, as I had to turn to other sources of funding that are not willing to be patient any longer. I strongly urge H&R Block to address these issues promptly and improve their communication and processing systems, as this experience has soured my view of their services.

It's not worth their less than CPA prices but if you go to a CPA professional experienced lot more than they are and not corporate old school mom and pop accountant. Late April 2025 I dropped off a very simple tax file to the Agassiz BC Canada H&R block office. April 28 records show that I received 1 missed call in the morning during my shower. No voice message was left on my machine so it went unnoticed. No follow up calls from H&R Block. I waited and waited for H&R to call and finally dropped into their office in August to find their location closed. My call to Hope H&R informed me that my documents were waiting in Hope. If I wanted them to file my taxes, I would have to drive to Hope, pay $137.00 and they would send my taxes off.
I used up 74 km of gas and my entire morning for driving time. When I arrived I asked to speak with the Manager. "Could you at least discount my filing fee as this is clearly poor business practice and poor customer service to have left my tax filing so late and not have made any further attempts to notify me after the 1 call on April 28.
Manager said "No". "Either you pay the full fee or take your documents and leave. I chose to take my documents responding that I would be looking to file a complaint. Manager flippantly responded. "Your complaint to H&R headquarters will only come back to me and I don't intend to do anything about it". As I was leaving, Manager couldn't help but deliver a catty comment, "Have a nice drive home."
So this is who you're dealing with and WHAT you're dealing with when you entrust Hope/Agassiz H&R Block to file taxes on your behalf: Care less incompetence and bad attitude. I suppose I should be grateful that they didn't lose my paperwork in the hundreds of other's documents the Manager claimed were sitting in her drawers. These people simply can't be bothered to make the effort to notify customers. I often wondered why people claim that H&R Block has a poor reputation. I guess, now I know.

I had a terrible experience with H&R Block. They charged me $125 and refused to refund my money, claiming I had an appointment I never scheduled. When I called their site, I was contacted by people from another country, which made me feel unsafe and unprofessional. As an American citizen, it is very concerning that my Social Security number could end up in the hands of people outside the U.S. This situation was not only stressful but also very alarming. I strongly advise others to avoid using their services. I am waiting for the refund and have contacted the bank and IRS.
The real problem with H&R Block is not losing $125, but the fact that you are asked to provide highly sensitive information such as your Social Security number, home address, and personal details — only to have your data handled by people from another country. This is extremely unsafe and unacceptable. I never scheduled an appointment, yet they charged me and refused to refund my money. The bigger issue is the risk of personal information falling into the wrong hands. As an American citizen, I find this very alarming and strongly warn others not to trust their platform.

I dropped my taxes off to have them done towards the end of April. I knew it would be a few days late but it was my fault for not dealing with earlier. I took what she asked for to her, but my husband did not have but it he didn’t really need it. When I introduced myself she said “I was going to call you today!” We chatted and I told her not to worry about my husbands for now, just get it done because I knew I had to pay and I was worried about interest. She only works Tuesday and Thursday so getting over to the office was inconvenient, but I expected that when she had it completed she would call.
After not hearing from her for 6 weeks, I stopped by and again she said “I was going to call you today”… Funny thing is she had no idea who I was as I had to give her my name etc. She goes back to her office and comes back and says “my bad, looks like it’s not done yet!” …But she was going to call me…about what not getting it done. I asked her if she could have it done by the following Tuesday and she said, no that she was working on a 7 year return that was taking up her time. I asked for your contact information and she said she didn’t have a card. At that time I should have asked for my paperwork back, but I had a bad day and really didn’t want a fight. It has now been 2 weeks and I have not heard from her. Is H&R Block going to pay my interest for sloppy lousy service? We paid H&R $ 585.00 to do our personal taxes for 2024. This was at their office # 32031 in Wilmington, NC. Then, on May 5, 2025 we received a letter from the IRS indicating that our return was incorrect, and that we OVERPAID our taxes by $ 192.00. A few days later, the IRS sent us a check for $ 192.00. We called a gentleman at H&R and explained the situation, and requested an adjustment based on their much publicized "Accuracy Guarantee." The H&R gentleman agreed that H&R has made the error, and that they would reimburse us $ 100.00 for the error. We went to their office a few days later, to collect the $ 100.00, and met with a lady named Erica. Erica said she was the manager of this H&R office, and she reviewed our case. She said H & R would not make any adjustment based on their guaranteed accuracy policy.
Summary: If you want to have H&R do your taxes, that's fine. However, keep in mind that when they do make a mistake that causes you to pay TOO MUCH to the IRS, do not expect any adjustment or refund based on their accuracy guarantee. You are on your own.

I had successfully completed my federal and state returns and was ready to send them using the online filing capacity. However, minutes after sending my returns a message came back saying the returns had been rejected (even though the software had indicated that all was correctly done). The message told me that the Tax ID for the payer on a 1099 was incorrect. I looked up that payer and the tax ID I had supplied was exactly what was written on the 1099. I tried to resend but received the same message. The software suggested that I physically mailed my return (even though I had paid the exorbitant online filing fee).
Several days after mailing my return I received a message from H&R Block saying that my online return has finally been successfully sent, however the physically mailed federal copy had already been received received, which made the online filing null and void. Due to the federal tax filing be received in physical and subsequently online form, my federal return was put on hold. It's now mid June and I have still not yet received my refund. I got another bill from IRS saying that I owe more. When I asked the H&R block to see why their software did a wrong calculation, their answer was that happens we do not have the same calculation as IRS. That means who knows I am getting the same amount in refund if my software is not calculating it right. Also by the way I used a tax advisor from them and they are not willing to review it nor refund me the amount I paid to use their tax advisory service. I owed a bit of money in Federal Taxes on our 2024 return. I ran through all of the checks and Block said our return was perfect, with nothing that needed to be done before filing. I paid the outstanding Federal balance in early April 2025.
Then the IRS sent us a letter on April 28, 2025, stating we were being charged a penalty for failing to pay estimated taxes. I transferred money from our bank account to pay that penalty. But then I remembered that Block claims that their returns are 100 percent accurate. So, I logged onto our account on the H & R Block website, looking for a 1040-ES online form that I could use to pay more Federal tax during the year so we would not be penalized again for the tax year 2025. I couldn't find that form and when I tried to leave a comment or get further help, my web page went into a search that didn't end. It seemed as if the Block website has been shut off after April 15. After several calls to them, I give up so in February 2025, I return back to the office to file and they said, "By the way, we made a mistake the previous year. You still owe for the advance loan." So they took the money for the advance loan plus all the fees for H&R Block's mistake and the Great part is they ruined our credit and now refuse to fix any of it and none of it was our fault. Moved to NJ 3 years ago and people in 2 Cherry Hill offices were unacceptable in knowledge and attention in entering information. There was no longer the screen available for me to see the returns in progress. After reviewing federal and state returns at home, I found mistakes and omissions. Preparers rarely returned multiple calls or e-mails to answer my questions. Had to return to the offices 3-4 times (for over 10 hours) for corrections, twice for amended returns to be filed because of the preparers' mistakes, and returns omitted in my packet. Paid $595. Why do I pay hundreds of dollars for a professional to do our taxes if they make mistakes and then do not stand by them? Long story short, paid H&R Block to do our taxes again this year. When paying she wanted us to pay another hundred bucks for Peace of Mind to guarantee their audit. Incredulously I asked "wait, does that mean you do not stand behind your work?" Should have been red flag and sign. After I had her explain it in more detail and found out that even if a mistake they would only cover $6k that seemed like a scam. So you do not stand by your work and even if a mistake you limit your liability on your work to a small amount? Well, you guessed it, almost immediately we got a notice back from the State that we suddenly owed another $2000. Well since we did not fall the POM scam no dice. Immediately went over to find out where the mistake was. Not impressed I had to find and correct the next lady on documents.
Fairly simple stuff like if this doc was attached to the filing or not. So even less confidence. Then she said she would file a reply explaining their reasoning. It was now mid March and I specifically asked what would happen if not resolved by 15 April to which she said "oh no we will have a reply well before then". Again I was sadly correct. No answer until now May and State says still owe. Why would I pay hundreds of dollars if you will not stand by your work? I can make mistakes filing my own taxes without paying you hundreds.

I will not EVER use H&R Block to do my taxes again. On Feb. 11, 2025 the Barbourville, KY office did out taxes. While all of the people in this office are very nice and helpful for tax preparation, apparently H&R Block has instructed the branches to steal your money! We paid $300 for our tax preparation, and when we got home and looked over our receipt that evening, we discovered that the cost to do the taxes was indeed only $260 dollars. There was an “optional” charge of $40 listed on the receipt for the “Peace of Mind” clause. We had no idea what this was or why we were charged it with our agreeing to it. Apparently this clause covers up to $6,000 if they make an error in your taxes. I was always under the impression if THEY made an error they would cover it anyway…
After looking at the clause we saw where you had 7 days to decline it for a full refund, so we called the next day asking for our $40 back. We pointed out that no one asked us if we wanted it in the first place, nor were we advised that they were charging our credit card this extra fee. The last I heard, doing that was illegal and called “theft.” They told us that they were instructed to include it on all the taxes they prepared. We advised them on Feb. 12, 2025 to refund us the $40 dollars. It is now May 3, 2025 and we have still not received it even after at least a dozen attempts. We notified them in writing and via email requesting it, as this is what the internet advised to do. In the process of researching this online we found where that have had class action lawsuits filed against them (and were ordered to make restitution in the millions) for THIS EXACT SAME thing.
They have been unlawfully charging this since at least 2002, and apparently they get more money from taking the $40 from millions of tax payers than they pay out in fines and restitution, so they have no incentive to stop stealing from us. In speaking with various attorneys it would cost me approximately $500 to get my $40 back… So they may have gotten away with this, but if they lose enough business because of this illegal practice, they may stop doing it. I hope this review will save others the stress (and $40) of trying to make the huge corporations do the right thing by standing up for the little guys once and for all.

A representative assured me that a message would be relayed to her to call me back urgently. I also contacted the customer service line, where another representative scheduled a call with Ms. ** for Tuesday, April 15th (the tax deadline). Regrettably, Ms. ** failed to return my call on Monday and did not honor the scheduled call on Tuesday.
** demonstrated a concerning level of unprofessionalism and unreliability. She neglected to provide even a brief communication to inform me that she would not be completing my return. Her failure to fulfill her responsibilities placed me under significant and unnecessary stress, scrambling to meet the filing deadline at the last minute. I cannot recommend her services based on this experience.

If I could give a negative star, I would. I received a notice back in November of 2024 regarding a possible assessment from the DOR for our 2021 tax return. I made multiple attempts to contact a tax rep at HR block, with ZERO response. When I did finally get ahold of someone, probably 1.5 months later, I was told we needed to file an amended return, as there was a missing W2 on the original return and we had to pay almost $400 back to the DOR. Fast forward a bit, it is now April and I am still fighting this, they are denying my claim (their "peace of mind" option) stating I never gave the documentation to the original prep person, which is completely inaccurate.
This company is IMPOSSIBLE to get in touch with. Their customer service people are rude and I was hung up on once, one person sent me to some random banking center which I asked to speak to "client claims," then a third rep told me "client claims" has no direct line to call and everything had to be done via email. What kind of joke of a company does this? How can they sit here and charge me hundreds of dollars for "peace of mind" never stating EVERYTHING HAD TO be submitted online and then accuse me of lying and deny my claim.
This company is an embarrassment and shouldn't be allowed to "help" people with their taxes. It seems like a scam and false advertising. I spoke with client claims department when someone FINALLY returned my phone call and they again, insisted I never provided the documents and continue to deny my claim. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY + ESPECIALLY DO NOT PAY FOR "PEACE OF MIND" because it is far from what they provide.

I just checked reviews for HR Block. I should have checked first. Shame on me! I’ve never seen so many negative reviews. Check BBB. average 1.07 out of 5!! I did not think it possible for a company to have such a low rating. And all others are about the same. Check CONSUMERAFFAIRS: 1,807 1-star ratings, vs. 79 5 star. How’d I miss this? Is there a worse tax prep company in the USA? All others I checked are about the same.
I just finished a bizarre tax prep experience with H&R Block in Douglasville GA. My intent is NOT to bash the people involved, so I will not use names. But, BUYER BEWARE. This is my second attempt to work with Block. First time, the tax preparer made an EGREGIOUS error. She botched the capital gains calculation, leading to a serious flaw in my return. Luckily, I paid for their “Peace of Mind” guarantee. Long story short, Block paid me $6,000 to correct the error. No apologies, just move on.
The entire staff was gathered around the front desk … chatting! My preparer among them. She know I was sitting there, but ignored me. Finally, I walked to the group to get their attention. Block is VERY casual about providing service, at least in this office, I needed an extension. The preparer took minutes online to find the form. Finally, she handed me the completed form, but it had a serious error error. She told me that I would not have to pay taxes due until October. WRONG! The law states that all taxes due have to be paid with the extension. They wanted to charge me $99 for this! And it was in error! If we all took this approach, the US Govt would be out of business!
I did not yet know this. I went to the front desk. She was unable to process the check to pay for the extension. She tried many times to get the reader to accept the check, but it did not work. Finally, she gave up and said I’d have to pay cash… or go somewhere else. I returned with cash. At this point, I was angry. The person at the front desk seemed irritated to have her office chatting interrupted. I should not have gotten angry, but it was now more than an hour, two trips to the Block office and STILL no end in sight. Rather than deal with their incompetence, They called the police. How bizarre!
I then went to an online service and got the extension in less than 5 minutes pating estimated taxes due. And IRS accepted it!! I cost me $0!!! With my accepted extension, I can now take my time to complete my taxes, but needless to say, NOT with BLOCK.
Oh … there appears to be NO Block address to lodge a complaint!! So I will post it on BBB, a public forum. And other forums , Hopefully Block wall read this and replace staff with competent people,
It took me almost two hours to get to his point with Block, something I got done in less than 5 minutes with a FREE online service.
So, a word to the wise… save time, aggravation and your money; take your tax business elsewhere. I wish I had.

I was happily using H & R Block for five years for my tax returns. Until this year. The cost of my tax return in 2025 was $470, up a whopping $300 from the $169 2024 cost. My return is uncomplicated and did not change much from last year. In fact there was one less document this year. I was not really given an explanation of why the cost skyrocketed. H & R Block advertises as having up front and transparent pricing; my experience was the opposite. My loyalty cannot be taken for granted. I feel ripped off, and will not be returning to H & R Block. Actual rating is about minus five stars.. Constantly crashed during use, necessitating dozens of logins and loss of entered data. Demanded an upgrade to enter 1099-INT income, a problem that was resolved by the only customer service person I had contact with who seemed to understand that the problem was a problem and was a software glitch. The return to last screen completed function was a last screen minus ten button. Dropped several of my income providers from the previous year including my bank (see 1099-INT above), necessitating hours of data reentry because of the constant crashes and relogins. Was told by different online chat personnel that the problem was 1) resolved (it wasn't) and 2) that reverting to the proper software would cause loss of all data entered and further punishment would be enacted in the form of not providing any access to previous returns, no online support, and no support for audit or review.
The automated phone call in was useless and stupid, and could not match a valid SSN to my return. It finally defaulted to transferring me to a real person, who was the only one who actually helped (Thanks, Ethan). After filing my state return, the wrong form was displayed for the payment voucher and printing the forms would have required 70 mostly empty pages, since the return was mostly just retirement and SS income, with no deductions or credits, and payment for taxes due.
In 2023 the software did not calculate penalties or interest for not making quarterly payments, told me it had reviewed them and they were included in the amount due. They weren't and this resulted in threatening letters and demands for payment four months later. After providing the details to Block, they promised to follow up on the problem, and reimburse me for the penalties and interest, none of which happened. I'm waiting to see what happens with these this year. At least the 2024 return showed interest and penalties and did add them properly. It remains to be seen if they are correct.

Please be aware that for the Deluxe + State product they say "One State Return Included". It is NOT clear, but they will charge an additional fee to e-file! Pretty disappointed in the series of events that occurred here. This was our first time using H&R Block. Things seemed somewhat simple, we didn't have any issues making an appointment. Greeted first thing, we were taken back to a desk. I had everything prepared/labeled/organized and necessary calculations. We sat there as our tax advisor entered everything into a computer and waited. The amount we owed for Federal and State at the end of it was incredibly daunting. We paid the obnoxious $650 and then additional $40 for the premium in case there were amendments/audits, etc.
We went home, I immediately paid my taxes but it was my fault that I didn't run through the completed forms first before doing so. After reviewing, I noticed an error that put our federal taxes at $6k less than what we actually owed and our state at a refund instead of a $850 payment. I called and she corrected it and resent it but then I had noticed there was also a mistake on my rental income property. She corrected and re-filed the amendment.
I called corporate and complained about the $700 we paid for our taxes to be wrong, for how much we mistakenly owed on federal and state taxes and for all the mistakes after. Looking through the charges, we were charged for a form that they had also mistakenly totaled for expenses on a rental property. H&R Block said they would correct everything and try and put in a refund for the wrong charge. The person they assigned to correct it didn’t give me a call the day corporate mentioned and followed up on a Monday after the weekend saying that the person assigned became super busy and they assigned someone else.
That person gave me a call and went through everything. Corporate said they're expediting the refund of the H&R Block charge. Received an email indicating the refund needed to be accepted. None of the credentials worked and now that payment is now locked and if we don't accept it in 2 weeks, it will expire. It is not available in the My Block profile app. I should have definitely checked my tax forms but to have a tax professional get so many items incorrect, overcharge us for getting something so important wrong, making refunds as difficult as possible and ultimately causing us to overpay federal and state, I will not be using H&R Block ever again.

I have been using H&R Block tax software for over 20 years, and for the most part it worked OK and good enough especially for capital gains and losses and later rental property depreciation. However as the years went by the software became more bugged with technical and customer service weak. Most glitches and tax advice was left up to Google or Youtube. The price of H&R software also became very expensive, but still less than $350 to have them done in their office on the same software. My rating of 2 stars out of extreme frustration having to download and reload the software and updates several time to finish my 2024 taxes.
Customer service could not help me from their scripted answers. Needless to say 20 years is enough and time to move on to a better product we all hear about. Been using H&R Block Online for more than 10 years. Always paid for a tax professional and for their audit services. This year was very different. I get it that I owe taxes. That's not the issue. The issue is the "Tax Pro" messaged me saying my return is ready to be e-filed and to feel free to ask questions. Since I owed, I decided to ask the tax pro for some advice on how to setup a payment plan with the IRS. No response after a couple days. I asked again and waited a week. Still no response.
I tried to go about it myself in requesting a payment plan from the IRS website. I know Something got messed up because the IRS is planning to withdrawal the full amount on April 15th that I don't have. So I scheduled an appointment with the local H&R Block office and the only response "Sorry, there is nothing I can do." I chose Block because of brand recognition and because I borked my wife's S-Corp filing for '23. The price to fix the problem and file the amended return was fair, so we let them file our joint return for '24. That's when it hit the fan. They got my wife's LLC name wrong on the '24 1120-S, which we noticed and had corrected. Initially we were told my wife's taxes would come to about $4,800. A week before filing deadline, the Block agent called and said we'd owe $21K federal and $4K state. I sputtered that was impossible, the agent said, "oh wait .. I was looking at the wrong thing, it's only $12,000 for the federal."
I had already run the calculations with TaxAct (correctly this time, I hope), and our total tax for '24 filing jointly was just over $8K. I told the agent just send me a bill for whatever it is we owed for prep fees, but we'd be filing them on our own. Never heard from this agent again. Sloppy, slow, unprofessional, and careless. If it comes to fixing things again, it will be through a (hopefully) qualified and diligent professional, and not another buffoon. Suffice to say, it would be with someone else besides H&R Block.

I used to love H&R Block, but now I'm just disappointed. I selected to have a Tax Pro, but then changed my mind. There was no way to undo the $55 fee. Also, there is no way to set up a payment plan for money owed without crazy fees. Basically the only option it kept coming up with was to directly withdraw funds from my account on or before the tax deadline or write a paper check... Those were the only options. Or pay over $100 for an installment plan. There were no options for a simple payment plan. None of it made any sense!
H&R Block should not make it so difficult when customers owe federal and state taxes. It's like they're trying to rob you blind. I will never use H&R Block again after this fiasco. My Tax "pro" recalculated my adjusted gross income to incorporate my military retirement pay as taxable income on my state returns (which don't tax military pensions), and I'm haggling with her for an explanation. H&R Block already has my money, so if I don't want to void their "guarantee", I'm on the hook to file now and petition state revenue services for relief later. Referring to the Business Prep software desktop version, which I think is the only way the company has to prepare LLC, partnership, S corp... taxes. In 4 words: Do Not Do It! Only if you want to age prematurely. There's no local support for this product and online and phone support--it's like they've never heard of the product before. 3 years in a row this product has caused major anxiety at tax time and it has officially struck out with me this year. I don't recall the exact issues of years past, but it was something similar - that I file taxes and the IRS rejects it for some reason that is crazy obscure and not at all solvable without tech support. This year, the IRS accepted the return but with messages.
The message said, some box on the header had not been checked YES, so I needed to complete another form to change my address, but I have not changed my address. So what the heck. Turns out there is no way to check YES on the header in the software, but if I go to the paper form, there is also nowhere to check YES. So my only option is to file the 8822-B form for both companies and send a letter explaining the the IRS that I didn't actually change addresses, but just tossing this in to cover my ** because H&R Block said I need to do that.
Half an hour (the shortest time I ever spent on support call) to learn this and when I start to ask other questions to try to troubleshoot, I just kept getting, "I'm not a tax professional." I asked if there are any tax pros who can help. No, there's no tax support by phone or online for this product. Only locally. Well, maybe you might get lucky and find a business tax pro at your local H&R Block, but I called both local offices and none of the tax pros there know anything about form 1120S. These taxes are not that hard, but I'm starting to see why people pay hundreds of dollars to have simple returns filed by business tax accountants. There's just no good software to do it yourself. My taxes are so easy, I should have just done the whole thing on paper.
I've read IRS is not going to accept paper filing soon, maybe this is the last year. But not sure if that applies to business taxes. Sorry, off topic. But the point of this review is to save the small business person a whole lot of frustration. Don't use this product. I was actually shocked when I came on Consumer Affairs to write this review to see how low H&R Blocks ratings are. My one-start isn't really contributing much, not hurting at all because they have over 1800 one-star reviews. I wish I had consulted this first. But I have been using their product for personal taxes for a decade. Have gone back and forth with Turbo Tax, but went with HRB to save a little money. Forget it. I'm so done with them. I'll get an accounting degree and learn to file my own business taxes before I use H&R Block again.

For the past 10 years, every year this company has had to email me a corrected program through email, because the one I download does not work properly. This means that I waste my time on the phone with them. While I appreciate they were able to fix this issue, I do not appreciate the problem in the first place. I kept going back to them, just out of convenience of continuity. After this year, there is NO way I will ever use them again. I downloaded a deluxe program with state with 5 free filings. Went through all the trouble to prepare my taxes. We had a lot of deductions so my schedule A was very full this year. Sigh of relief once I reached the file page. Put my credit card information in to efile state. The program says its uploading my returns, attempts to charge my card, however comes back and says the program needs to update and gives an error code. The program is up to date by the way. The customer service representative verified this.
After this, the program would not open my tax file any longer. It said the edition did not match the program any longer and to try updating. Nice. I called them several times, and we tried uninstalling, reinstalling, blaming my computer, changing things that don't matter. I am a bit tech savvy at least. So, I called the bluff and swapped computers. The same issue happened on another computer. It's NOT my system you fools. Its your program. Then I asked for my money back, because they will not forward me to the escalation department. Escalation Dept. won't get back to you for 5 days. I'm having surgery in 5 days and I will not be able to deal with this in 5 days. I told them that. They gave zero cares.
I supposedly can get my money after escalation calls me back. I highly doubt I will get that call. H&R block has wasted my last moment in my life. I wouldn't recommend this company or program to anyone. Save your frustration. I don't know if there is anything better, but this one this one sure sucks. By the way, every time I tried to file, it attempted to charge my credit card which over ten times...I can't even get a tech support on the phone? RIDICULOUS.

Astounding incompetence 2 years in a row followed by failure to honor their "100% accuracy guarantee." I paid for a "tax pro" to do my taxes for me this year. I sent in all my documents, and after a few days I got notified that my return was ready. I was informed that I owed $6,700 in taxes, which did not seem right. After examining everything, I saw that my tax pro had added up my income wrong to the order of $25k. I do not have a complicated tax situation: married filing jointly, W2s, some dividends, and some interest, and I took the standard deduction. I have no idea how they could have screwed this up. It was very simple.
I asked my tax pro to call me, but she didn't. I sent a second message saying I understand it is their busy season, but she could call me the next day anytime after 10am or we can make an appointment for another time. Instead she calls me that night at 8pm while I'm at work. She starts out by saying "You haven't even looked at the return, have you?" I stay calm and point out her error, and while on the phone and rushed, she re-does my taxes and low and behold I now apparently only owe a few dollars, which sounds about right. However, it was not at all confidence-inspiring, and I was worried she made yet another sloppy mistake because of how quickly she did it while she was distracted on the phone....
There is clearly a 100% accuracy guarantee stated on their website: "If you discover an H&R Block error on your return that entitles you to a larger refund (or a smaller tax liability), we'll refund the tax prep fee for that return." I called corporate and requested that this guarantee be honored, and they assure me that it will be and that my case will be sent for review. I say that I want someone to double check the work of the woman who did my taxes in a rush while on the phone late at night, and the person at corporate makes an appointment with me for someone in the Kenwood office later that morning. I get a call 20 minutes before that scheduled appointment saying that the person I was supposed to meet with isn't in the office that day.... I say ok we can reschedule, but I'm in the middle of something so I'll have to call them back. I call them back awhile later, and now they can't get me in for another 4 days and the woman on the phone acts VERY put out by me.
Now comes the kicker: I get a call from some local manager (who can't figure out how to use her cell phone so calls me multiple times and then hangs up) who acts like this guarantee doesn't exist and is refusing to honor it. She says she'll give me a "small discount," and implies that I'm too stupid to understand their plain language accuracy guarantee. No, I do not misunderstand it: the website very clearly states that if there is an error the fee will be refunded. She was astoundingly rude.
So today I take my business elsewhere and carefully fill out the forms and add up the income myself, and get this: there was yet ANOTHER error in adding up my income that my "tax pro" made during the late night phone call-- this time a smaller error and in the opposite direction (under-counted my income by about $2k, I think she mis-understood the 1099-div form), but an error nonetheless.
Last year I also used H&R Block and they also screwed up my taxes, but to a much smaller degree: I actually got back a smaller refund from my city taxes than what was estimated for me. It was a difference of ~$30, and I just let it go without making a fuss last year, although I was sure not to use the same tax pro this year.
In summary, I have now effectively had my taxes done 3 times in 2 years by 2 tax pros at HR Block, and all 3 have been done incorrectly. All in all, I am completely put off by the sweeping incompetence of this company, by their disorganized nature, and their failure to honor their guarantees. Their tax pros are sloppy and unknowledgeable and they do not stand by their work. GO ELSEWHERE.

I used their online platform and paid for the Deluxe Package to file my taxes for the years 2020, 2021, and 2022. But for some reason 2021 was never filed. I have receipts showing I paid H and R Block for their services, that I sent what I owed to the IRS, and right there on the front page of my return it says, "YOUR RETURN WAS FILED ELECTRONICALLY, YOU DO NOT NEED TO MAIL IN YOUR RETURN." Everything looks the exact same for years 2020 and 2022. I reached out to them and they basically said it was my fault. They aren't taking responsibility whatsoever. H&R Block's software has proved to be full of bugs. It took me many hours along with an extended time with their tech support to install the software. Tech support got me nowhere but after several hours of work I managed to get the software installed. Having done so, I began working on my tax return. One of the best features of the program is its ability to download tax forms data from the various sources. In my case I found that the link to download Fidelity tax information was completely broken. H&R Block's tech support stated that I could expect no help from them and that I needed to manually collect and input the needed data. The main benefit of their software is to streamline the input of data and when their program fails their only solution is to manually input the data. When asked for the ability to raise a complaint I was told that they did not have any way for me to do that and then hung up on. Next year - TurboTax.

I then signed up for a tax adviser on H&R Block and I had made no mistakes and the IRS accepted my return only to find out that I was charged. The online software is pretty good and easy to use. But they gave incorrect information on how to enter 529 contributions, telling me to add it as income - in other words they mistook my contribution for a distribution, causing me to overpay in taxes $1400 over two years. They gave me incorrect information on this point four years in a row. I finally realized their information was incorrect and somehow figured out the correct way (you need a hack to make it work). When I tried to get them to redo the two incorrect years, they wouldn't. They wouldn't even give me a meaningful discount. I had googled how to input a 529 contribution in H&R Block, and saw forums where others were told to put their contributions in as income, as well. So this isn't just one misinformed agent.
I had to redo my past taxes on my own, which took about five hours to figure out and submit. When I went into the office in person to speak to someone face to face, the tax specialist looked around to see if anyone was listening, then told me to use the free USA tax software. So the year on year comparison does not work ... and I had to fill-in all basic data manually more than once. I tried calling for help and got some stupid AI voice that only wanted me to spend more money for things unrelated to my tax situation ... Totally dumb in response to my requests ...Really maddening!!!

I went for my appt last Saturday, 2/15. I was not told when I got there the tax preparer who does my taxes was not there and a man was apparently going to do my taxes, I found this a little disturbing not telling me prior to appt. Next, I was informed by the man doing my taxes he is also training someone. He was up and out of chair more than he was in it and when it was all over he said, "You didn't have to file but it's good you do," of course it's good I do. I was charged 134.00 for absolutely nothing, I'm a senior citizen. I don't have that kind of money to give away, why am I being charged.
This was the worst experience at H&R block. I've been going for many years. I honestly don't feel I should have to pay 134.00 for nothing. So again I ask what was the 134.00 charge for, I should have charged him every time he got out of his seat to assist someone else. I don't have a receipt but I do have a bank statement with the charge.

I had my taxes done at H&R Block in Fortuna California. When you give them your bank account number and they look on your cell phone to make sure they punch it in right and then when it’s time for them to give you your tax refund they tell you that you gave them the wrong number instead of them Admitting to their mistake. I will never go to the Fortuna office again. They suck really bad.

We have had nothing but issues this past year still trying to resolve a huge mistake made by H&R. Our last year's return was reviewed by no less than 5 of their employees. Their mistake was a 9 k error. Still with no resolve and awaiting our refund for over 4 months. Each employee starting with the initial tax preparer found different results but she being rather unprofessional told us we were wrong as did her counter parts. Happy my husband persisted as he was correct. They need to refund our over $800.00 prep fee with our peace of mind. Stay away from having them do your taxes. Move along to a more professional preparer.

I used HR Block to do my taxes in 2021. I used Bobbi ** in the Mooresville NC office. Every time I checked my account, it told me that my return was not complete. I contacted Bobbi numerous times and even went back into the office physically to figure out what was going on. They assured me that they would get it all completed. Well, life took over and here I am in 2025 and I still don't have my return. I will NEVER use HR Block again. They are horrible and have cost my family a lot of money.

Terrible software. Used it for over 10 years, but last 2 have been intolerable. It was great as TaxCut downloadable software. Right now, I'm stuck on wife's pension, and honestly I've tried everything and still can't find a place in the interview to enter the 1099-R. It keeps leading to a withdrawal or distribution question. It's just income! It's the last straw. Will try FreeTaxUSA.

Typical bait and switch tactics that got TurboTax involved in a class action lawsuit. I filed for free last year and my income for this tax season actually decreased. Yet HR Block insisted on helping themselves to a nice chunk of my return. I will never again trust these scam artists. A word of warning, when they claim they are offering free file, it is only for one state...everything else is extra.

Went to fill my taxes yesterday and the website makes you up grade to deluxe version with no option for free version to click on. The deluxe version shows up in your cart and you are unable to remove it. They force you to have to contact customer support and provide the live agent with your sensitive information for them to "downgrade" you to the free version. After 20 minutes in the chat I just left and files out taxes elsewhere. Highly do not recommend using them if you plan on using the free version. Today I learned they were sued $7 million dollars for this and were made to fix this problem but they haven't!

So after paying for a online adviser they are stating it's the IRS has the wrong data--so I showed they transferred the data and they verified my data was correct---but they charged me anyway and still said I had to fix with IRS---what a horrible company.

My experience with H&R Block was a disaster. In my opinion, the unprofessional, ameteurish company I have dealt with. To begin, I contacted HR Block shortly before the April 15 deadline 2024 to file my taxes. To be fair, I realize it was last minute, and so I had to file an extension. No problem there. After submitting all requested documents, I was told my federal tax due was under $1000. Great. I had until October 15 to file.
Shortly thereafter, and after my original agent went on furlough, I was assigned a different agent. I started receiving requests for documents I had already submitted. As time passed I stopped receiving those request, so I assumed they had been found. Some time before October 15 I was contacted by my original agent and told we owe just under $4000 for federal!! She couldn't explain the reason for the difference. After paying the tax and filing I received a notice from the IRS that I owed an additional $500. They explained this was a late fee for not paying my tax by 4/15. I was told even though I filed an extension, I still had to pay the tax. HHR Block never told me that! Again no explanation from HR Block.

From the start I was told based on the things that I had going on, tax wise, that it would be free. I'm getting the lowest return I have ever gotten in all the years that I have done taxes and on top of that at the very end twice I got a notice that the IRS rejected my tax return and was given the wrong reasoning as to why it was rejected both times. Finally the third time it was because I needed to enter health insurance information on the tax return. Then all of a sudden they wanted to charge me to filing federal and state and then on top of that wanted to charge me another fee to pay with my tax return. That is just plain out thievery because I did all the work in prepping my taxes I did everything. I put in all the information and they did literally nothing. Yet they can steal over $100 from the crap return I was getting. This company is nothing but thieves and false advertising. If you can go somewhere else for your taxes, do so. Do not use them.

I have used H&R Block paid basic filing software for decades. This year they dropped the basic and only have Deluxe and Premium, neither of which I need for my simple tax information. So they offer FREE online filing for people like me with a simple filing. Because they want to sell you their other offerings, they do not allow the information on the 2023 filing, that was done with their software, to be carried over to the 2024. That means I had to fill in all the information that would normally been already filled in on the 2023 return. Every once in awhile there would be something suggesting using their paid software, as I spent a long time inputting information.
I was nearly through and on the side there is a box to find forms. I clicked on it and asked to see form D. Immediately it said I have now enrolled in PREMIUM, NOT DELUXE, BUT PREMIUM FOR $65. In the cart there is no way to cancel. It says to contact a representative to be able to remove the PREMIUM IN MY CART. So I began a chat box to ask them to remove the premium from my cart and told them that I had not done anything with the premium because I stopped importing as soon as I saw this UPGRADE in my cart. The rep said that they could remove it, but if they did I would have to begin filling in the information from the start. I said this is blackmail - either pay $65 or we will remove all of your information and you can start again.
I never consented to an offer of PREMIUM, because they did not offer it. A simple click for a IRS document automatically added PREMIUM. I have no use for this top of the line for complicated returns. Their deluxe is half the price, but I didn't need that either. So did they even offer the less expensive? No I have to have PREMIUM AND PAY FOR IT OR THEY DELETE THE HOURS OF WORK I PUT IN FILLING OUT THE FORMS.
Do you think that my decades of paying for their software made any difference to them? No. I told them my age - 76 - and trying to get this filed, but they just don't care. So, they erased all my work and I went to another company that charged me $22 to use and file my return with them. That price is similar to the 2023 H&R Block software that I used last year. I give them one star, but should be no stars, because of their tricking me into buying their top of the line needless software.

I went in there to do all three to get rapid refund and then they finally told me they can only do the last year and it wasn't enough to do a rapid refund after we finished filing so I got stuck paying $142 total for something I could have done at home in under 5 minutes. I have been supporting my boyfriend and his children 100% financially all year. No income other than from myself. I had permission from him and the mother to claim them as dependents, because again, I’ve supported them all year. My boyfriend is also disabled and was told I couldn’t claim him either. I was told I could not claim anyone as dependents because we were not married… I know that the definition of a dependent is not that black and white… That being said I proceeded to speak with a tax lawyer (family member), checking with other tax experts, as well as researching IRS tax filing policies and procedures, I was able to get the information I needed.
This is not my only poor experience with H&R Block. I also filed my 2023 taxes with them, with proof of filing. I never received my refund. When I went to check on it with the IRS, I was made aware that I had no 2023 taxes transcript because The IRS never received my return. I’m going to have to pay to redo those taxes myself to make sure they get done properly. I put 100% trust in this company to handle my taxes… I was left disappointed. I will never recommend trusting this company to do anyone’s taxes.

This year (2025), the discount I received in the email stated the discount expires at 11:59 pm on 2/2/2025. It also stated I would have to file & pay before the expiration date. Since the government only requires that 1099 forms are sent out no later than 1/31, I am still waiting to receive a 1099. After speaking with H&R Block customer service, I was told that there was nothing they could do, I could not get another discount code! VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! Will be using another online service from now on.

I have used H and R Block for 16 years now. I will never again let them do my taxes ever again. I have always owned my own small business so the price to get my taxes done has always been high. I'm talking no less than 450 every year to get them done BTW. Anyways I like most people these days always do the refund advance due to needing the extra money after the holidays have drained my family and myself and have always been granted the max which used to be 3500. However I've never been approved for the refund advance before Christmas even though I have never had a return that totaled less than 4500 in any year I have filed.
Now come this year, I paid their outrageous fees again of close to 549 dollars, brought them in 4 new customers, didn't get the referral bonuses they promise, and was only given an advance of 500 dollars. Which BTW was the same amount every person I had brought there this year and all gotten approved for and they all varied in backgrounds, job titles, w2s in hand, and small business owners.
I believe that they raised the refund advance amount to 4000 to draw more people in but still only give everyone a 500 dollar advance after having to go in person to even get an advance, pay the crazy amounts they want, and then pay the 42 dollars they make you pay to put your return on and emerald card to even be allowed to apply for the advance, and then the 55 dollars they charge for the peace of mind and tax identity shield bundle. Which I also opt into getting every year faithfully and have been audited 4 times now and have had to handle the IRS all by myself each time. Rip off!! Go anywhere else to get your taxes done please 🙏

By far, I have found over the last seven years that HRB offers the best around service. If you need help with an online return, their toll-free # picks up pretty fast and I've used it on a few occasions and was never asked to pay. I actually tried their top competitor and HRB definitely is the superior product. I think you might know who I'm talking about. HRB's price is much better also. I mean, way better. I highly recommend the online version. No CD required. I also went to an HRB office to drop off some paperwork a couple of times and it was convenient and they were very nice people. Ok, enough said. I give HRB 5 stars compared to its closest competitor at maybe 3 stars.

Horrible. I had to keep going back until the Agent got it right. Also, the agent made an error and I was expected to pay for that. When I complained, he said he got permission to make the correction without an extra cost to me. They claim their work is guaranteed. If there is a problem, even if it is their mistake, the first question is, did you BUY insurance with us so the cost of refiling could be covered. Never Again.

I haven't really had too many issues with the H&R Block online program. However, this is the second year they have had a glitch. My complaint is I sent a message and no one replies, and I am not about to pay to speak to a tax person when it's their error. The program glitch is in the state portion. None of the deductions are moving over to figure the state taxes. The program is taxing our entire income without deductions. The state says I owe them a ridiculous number which knowing what it has been in the past that number is not even close. I went and created an account with Turbo Tax and the federal number matched with the H&R Block number, and showed a much different number for the state. Everything transferred over and the number is definitely more in keeping with last years return. So I figure if I post this someone will look into it. Hopefully other people haven't filed willynilly because it may not be correct.
