Worse service I've gotten ever. They charge you twice as much when you are self employed but do NOT deliver what they say they will. They do a crap work (mispellings, not filing properly). They did not file my GST/HST and I got a notice of unfilled by the CRA. Tried calling them for 2 weeks and they keep saying someone will reach out in 3-5 business but it's been 14 days and nothing from them!!!! If you want to avoid trouble then avoid them at all cost!!!

Horrible experience. They didn't adhere to the "peace of mind" guarantee. It's basically worthless. They made a mistake on a previous return, which resulted in a letter from the department of revenue and a tax lien. It's been over a year and they still haven't resolved the issue.

I'm an actual CPA, and I have NEVER seen an accurate tax return prepared and filed by H&R Block. They have no oversite or review process to verify the returns they file are accurate. They hire whoever, and just let them file returns willy nilly! Every single time we get a client who previously went to H&R Block, it is a gigantic headache filled with federal and state tax notices, amendments, confusion over how they even got their software to calculate so wrong, etc. I am literally begging everyone to stop going there. You are WAY better off trying to do your taxes using any online software, or if you have anything semi-complex, just pay a tiny bit more to go to a CPA Firm to make sure it's done correctly.

I had my 2023 income tax prepared for the first time with HR Block. On Memorial Day I got a notice on my phone HRBLOCK: Your one-time verification code is.... to log in to my account. I wasn't trying to log into my account. Someone accessed my account and changed my email address. I contacted Hr Block. They sent me an email with the department that handles this. I called multiple times to see what they were doing about the breach and never got a return call. After multiple calls I kept getting the same response from them, "We will escalate your claim and call you in 3-5 business days". Still no call, so at this point I am deleting my account. I am writing this because I wonder who else this happened to. Was I an isolated issue or has their whole system been hacked? This is very irresponsible in my opinion and should be addressed.

In 2022 I used H&R Block just I had done in previous years. Then, my return never arrived. I call IRS and they confirmed that my return had been sent to H&R Block's bank and gave me the routing information. I tried to use the info to get my return, but customer service would not look into it. I called and called, I couldn't get anywhere with them, international service answers the customer service calls. If you decide to use H&R Block, think twice.

Filed our taxes in 5/15/23. Paid $780 for this service. It took till March of 2024 and 3 people to get that done. They are refusing to reimburse me for the “failure to file” fines from the IRS. I’m responsible for a month but the other 10 months, is their fault. Customer service on phone and office is horrible. I can never get connected to a manager. They refuse to transfer my call or give me a number to call. I’ve never heard of a business doing this. They took my money and waited 10 months to get the job done right!! Refusing to connect or give me a number to a higher up is ridiculous!! No one ever calls me back, like they tell me. Will be reporting them to the BBB.

For over ten years I've used their software. I had numerous issues with my state filings, and no support from H&R. I am done with them. Every year they make mistakes. When I called and asked for support they will only pay for late/ and penalty costs, not my time, the error in the state tax, that their software created. DO NOT TRUST THEIR SOFTWARE FOR BEING CORRECT, OR THEM, THIS IS A FRAUDULENT BUSINESS PRACTICE.

Fairview Heights office is terrible. Filed my form 4/13/24 but after 4/20 could not get anyone to respond to text or emails or telephone messages. The 6 /25 got a letter from Illinois revenue that there was an error on my tax form. Called the office and left messages and emailed. Could not get anybody to respond. Finally this morning got thru and set up appointment for 3:30 today. Got just about there and Cara called and said she was scheduled to meet me at 3:30 but she is just learning and I need to meet with someone who knows what's going on. Called after I drove almost there and canceled a dentist appointment to get taxes resolved. What is going on. Please answer your phones and emails or phone messages.

I would not recommend anyone use H&R Block for small business formation. They are notable for lack of professionalism in handling my case. I initially used H&R Block to expedite the process, but they have done nothing but make error after error. The grievous mistake is asking me to send in an original copy of a Certificate by Regulatory Board, which I spent time and an application fee to ascertain, only to lose it in their office, making no effort to contact me to relay such news. I only found out when the state itself contacted me. It has been more costly for me in terms of time and expenses to go through H&R Block Business formation than to directly apply to the state myself (in which I would have undoubtedly sent in the correct documentation as requested). Since my small business is a medical entity, this has caused unacceptable delays in patient care. Avoid at all costs.

My account was hacked and H&R Block allowed a fraudulent claim to be processed in January to the IRS. It wasn't until tax session when I filed my taxes that I they realized it. I have had an open case for 3 months and have contacted them many of times to find out what the recourse or resolution was. NOTHING!!! I've spoken to Tier 2 and DIY resolution department (Ruby) being on hold for an hour as we speak...I'm still waiting for her to get back on the phone after having me on hold for 30 minutes. This has got to be the most unprofessional, incompetent group I have ever dealt with. I HIGHLY recommend you take your business elsewhere. They still have not apologized for the breach of my social security or personal information.

If I could put negative stars, I would. In my opinion, the company should absolutely be dissolved. I'll start from the beginning: I filed my taxes myself this most recent tax season. However, a few weeks after this, I realized I had totally forgotten to include my income from a rental property that I have. Panicked and not wanting to screw up my taxes more, I went to an HR Tax Pro online to file an amendment. I explained my situation, sent the currently filed information, and answered his questions around what was missing (i.e. rental income). I had to explain about ten times what was missing. However, he told me he understood and that was that. I was charged $582 dollars for this amendment service. I had never filed an amendment before and was so panicked I did not look up how much it should cost. I was upset that it was so expensive, but paid it anyway.
After the amendment was done, I was told I owed thousands of dollars with my new state and federal combined. I was so confused as to how that was possible and the person doing my taxes essentially ignored me and/or provided incomplete answers to my questions. Again, I was confused and upset at how expensive it ended up being (I am in the middle of wedding planning) but I paid it because what else could I do. About a month after that, I received a letter from the IRS telling me I owed another $400 dollars. I contacted my tax pro via the portal to ask what was happening. At this point I noticed it was a different tax pro helping me. No communication about why that change was made. She also gave me incomplete/unhelpful information until I pushed for a call.
She evidently transferred me to someone else as I received a call from a man I hadn't seen on the online portal. I gave him a run down of the situation and he was stunned. I was not only completely (i.e. illegally) overcharged for the service, but I did not actually receive any service at all. Turns out, my taxes were done completely incorrectly. I'm talking wrong numbers, filed in the least optimal way, and the kicker, that I overpaid by one thousand at least. While on the phone, the man I spoke with promised a refund of my payment to HR as well as a re-amendment to determine the correct amount that I owed to the government. He called me the same week after he had fixed the amendment to let me know he was submitting it to the IRS, and to let me know that I'd be receiving a link to get my refund from HR. Great! Or so I thought.
I get the link from their client services team, which is really an oxymoron. I clicked to get my funds via Zelle. Nothing happened so I waited a couple days. When there was still nothing, I reached back out via the tax pro online portal. She promised another would be sent soon. Nothing was sent. Instead of her doing it herself, she told me to call client services. Before I could do that, a new link was sent. This time I selected Venmo and again, nothing happened. I again reached out and was again told to just call client services. Annoying, but fine.
I call the number given to me. I explain the situation, the person on the other side asks me a couple questions and then eventually tells me that she needs to transfer me to a different department. I get transferred. I again explain the same thing. The man on the other line doesn't ask me any questions but instead just tells me that he can't help and that he needs to transfer me to another department. I continue to be tossed around until, while waiting to be transferred, the line dropped. No one attempted to call me back.
I call the office number closest to me, the number from which the only person who has been helpful in this process called me from. A man answers, I give him a run down. He creates an official complaint for me and tells me folks will reach out 3-5 days later. He also tells me that the person who did help me is gone on holiday and gives me no indication on when he will be back. I asked about the status of my re-amendment and was told that it can take up to 12 weeks. No one had told me that thus far.
Since that last call, I have received another email from client services letting me know that payment failed and that they'd try to send another link. So, clearly no one was told that I just wanted a paper check. And no one has reached out to me about the official complaint that I filed. This has been without a doubt the WORST experience I've ever had with a company or client services team.

So I just wanted to put this out there that H&R Block is horrible to work with if you have any issues. We did our taxes this year with them because we had a bunch of different life events happen and we didn't want to mess anything up. Our biggest mistake was using this business. Payments and refunds aside, we got a letter from our local tax agency and was told we were missing information that was on a W-2. I called them and was told to call a different branch. I called again and was told they would handle it. I messaged the H&R Facebook for support and was told they would handle it. They closed my ticket without informing me or handling the situation. I had the ticket reopened and was told they would look into it. Still nothing. We ended up handling the situation ourselves. But for the money spent the customer service is horrible and we will not be using them again.

We had our taxes done by H & R Block in Sequim Wa.. We were told our preparer was sick twice as he didn’t show up on two occasions, we were never notified till we showed up needing our taxes done and we had no tax preparer. The second time we showed up a preparer in the back of the store said he’d do our taxes, we took him up on it, unfortunately the preparer made a mistake. We realized a mistake the next day as I went over the return, so we went back to the store as another preparer agreed it was a mistake, he sent in an addendum to the return. PROBLEM SOLVED? NO!! We’ve now been waiting approximately two months with the IRS In review of the returns (our tax money on hold)…
The sad part is that we’ve been paying extra for the “Peace of mind policy“ H&R Block offers at an extra cost. I called customer support and have had a big run around case # **, and a new case # **…. I was asked, what could we do for you?, I suggested a full refund. I’ve been doing business with H & R Block for 15 years in another state paying extra for “peace of mind“ with no problems until now.

I worked for H&R Block this past tax season and it was my first season with them. Part of my job was sitting behind the reception desk answering calls. I did not find out until maybe the 2nd last week of tax season that all calls in and out of the office are recorded. No one told us this, and we are NOT telling customers either. I worked at a call center once and we had to tell them that the call is being recorded. There was an issue with a phone call near the end of the season, and my manager said don't worry about it because the general manager Tom can pull the call himself and listen to it. I was shocked. No one told me I was going to be recorded on calls and the customers don't know about it either, we were not telling them. I went through all of my hiring documents thoroughly and there was nothing in there indicating our calls were going to be recorded. This is against the law!

I will NEVER use them again. I sold a house in 2022 and had tax implications from that so I went to an HR Block office for the taxes to be done. Later in 2022 I had to file an amended return, which I feel is their fault, but I never pursued it. In 2023 I tried to get them to do my taxes again and the tax office wouldn't return my calls, saying they were too busy. Also would not answer emails. I got a letter from the IRS saying my 2022 taxes were done wrong and I owe more money. I have been trying to get HR Block to address their error all week. Now I'm told after calling corporate that I will get a response in 5 days to my issue. No accountability. No customer service. No one cares.

I have used H&R Block a few times. I've had no problems. But this tax year 2023, they really made things difficult. So if they mess up on your return, don't expect them to do anything! So, I filed my taxes, and the IRS rejected them - due to an on-line programming error - they didn't remove my 20 year old child. So I fixed that and sent it back in. The first time it was filed, in CO, my claim to the TABOR refund was on the State Tax form. When I sent the corrected form, it was not.
I call H&R Block three times. The first time I was told that the online processing of the TABOR was not working and that I would have to call the Department of Revenue myself. The second time I called, I got a little more help. The third time they confirmed that I would have to file an amended return. So I'm trying to file an amended return and all H&R Block does is send you to the Colorado website to fill out multiple forms to file an amended return. Then you have to print all of them and then mail them. So, tell me this! I paid them $104 for my on-line tax returns. They made two mistakes and I'M the one that has to fix them. I'm so frustrated and pissed. I will never use them again!!!!

Downloadable software and customer service a disaster. Doing one return I found three errors in the software...one a major depreciation calculation that hasn't been fixed in seven weeks. Company policy dictates that any employee with tax knowledge CANNOT talk to a client. Imagine that. Also, when bringing software errors to the attention of the company, the response is: someone will look at this within five business days. Another error I brought to their attention may result in some taxpayers losing money...they corrected the error but did nothing to let clients know the error existed. So the people who lost money will never know...

I used the online tax pro and she did not file my taxes correctly, adding in my business stuff which I provided. I spent over 10 hours trying to get in touch with a tax pro to get that filed on my taxes and never heard from one. I called over 5 times and no one could help me. Each call told me they would schedule me with a tax pro and have 4 separate emails showing that and no one ever called me back. I asked for a refund after they did not complete my taxes, the tax pro messaged me through the H&R Block messaging and told me that she could not file my taxes.
I would not use them. I was called by one lady asking for payment when my taxes were not completed and was charged, but nothing was ever resolved and my taxes were never completely filed with them. I asked for a refund on 4/16/24 and no one ever got back to me with a refund like they said. I called today 4/29/24 and nothing was resolved. I called twice, one time I got hung up on after trying to get escalated to the next tier and the next time I called, I was told again someone would set up a call with me with no resolution and no time frame of a phone call.

After years of using Turbotax, I decided I am now too old and would give H&R Block a try for 2023. I regret not checking reviews more thoroughly. I went to the appointment with all information carefully detailed so it was only necessary to plug it into the system. It should have taken no longer than 30-45 minutes at most. When it came to my qualified charitable distribution, Gene had no idea where to put that. He persisted in saying it could just be used as a deduction and I had to argue with him repeatedly until he finally consulted another employee and together they figured it out. In total, I was there for 2 hours.
At that point I had no confidence that the returns were correct but just wanted to leave. I refused the $39 refund transfer and just wanted to escape. I was shocked at the $380 I was charged and after complaining, a "$25 coupon" was used to reduce the fee to $355. Considering the fact that I was teaching the preparer about QCD, I thought it should have been seriously reduced. After being told the Fed and State returns had been accepted I was concerned about the Fed refund. After a couple of weeks, I received a letter from the IRS asking if I had filed a return. I went online as instructed and provided the requested information.
When the return check arrived in the mail, I noticed there were errors in the address and felt thankful that it arrived at all. I then checked the H&R Block records and discovered Gene had misspelled the street name, had omitted the Apt. number and the +4 zip was wrong. No wonder the IRS was questioning who I was! Now I need to send a correction to the IRS. I will never again depend on a "professional" and will check and correct every line which should not be necessary considering the fees. Next year it's Turbotax again, stressful but a great deal less money.

I have used H&R Block for seven years and have been satisfied until this year. I have used Maribeth ** at the Amarillo Bell Plaza location. This year when I went to review the filing she had missed my carry over on capital losses. We corrected it and filed on March 5, 2024. I received my refund later in March. On April 19 I received a call at 12:00 noon that she had filed my amended return? I told her there was a mistake as I hadn't requested an amended return. She said I had brought in a late 1099 form but I hadn't. She said their office would be closed and all paperwork sent to district office after today. I went in and she had all of the file originals I took in and they had not scanned in one 1099 so I owed $888. The amended form was filed on today's date. They were cleaning out the office and found the 1099 but wanted me to believe someone had brought it in. Very dishonest and a terrible way to do business. Attempted to submit my Federal taxes in the evening on April 14, 2024. Software repeatedly failed to connect to servers with Bad Gateway message. Software said file not transmitted. A search of the internet showed numerous people with the same message. On the morning of April 15, 2024, I noticed an email from HR Block saying that the IRS accepted my return (note - this was HR Block saying that, not the IRS). Software still said my return was not filed. Repeatedly tried to submit file and continued to get Bad Gateway message and file not transmitted.
Finally had to print a paper copy and take my return with my payment to the Post Office. A couple of days later, I notice that the IRS deducted my payment from my checking account but had not cashed the check I was forced to send them due to software failure. I then had to cancel the check to avoid overdrawing my account. I've never had this happen with any other tax software. Stay far away from this product. You can't trust it. 2024 is my first time using H & R Block. And coincidentally, the 1st time in 40 years that I've ever had both tax returns rejected by Fed and state. What a terrible decision I made using H & R Block. Their overall incompetence and customer-hostile attitude is hard to process, and you can feel their toxic culture as you talk to their offshore sweatshop call centers, and their surly, rude American counterparts. Their website is almost as bad as Freetaxusa, and their AI is so primitive it doesn't even read key documents properly. The AI failures are jaw dropping-along with reps claiming to be "tax pros" when they know almost nothing about taxes.
Their AI chat box is a total joke, worse than most and that says a lot since we all tend to agree chat boxes suck. So they botched both of my returns and then on 4/16 & 4/17 they essentially blamed me (after following all their prompts and doc uploads) after their "pro-review" said my taxes were flawless and ready to file. I did everything exactly right, but their cheap software was a total fail. One of their reps even got so frustrated with his inability to fix my returns, he recommended a "workaround" that was illegal and totally fraudulent. And he actually defended it! Incompetent and criminally shameless, this describes the 2024 H & R Block Tax Prep very accurately. Run for the hills from these jokers and don't waste your time and money on a company facing multiple class action suits and who are currently under DOJ fraud investigation. Hope I was clear on this.
