I have had two Citibank accounts since August, 2015. This month, for an unknown reason, my automatic payment was returned. Subsequently, I received a call saying the payment was late with no explanation as to why the auto payment was rejected. Within 5 minutes, I manually paid the monthly payment. Without any notice, my card was declined 2 days later, which is when I found out my account had been closed. I tried to reach out to customer service, but they had no clue as to why the account was closed and stated I had to wait for a letter of explanation to come in the mail.
I received said letter 2 weeks later that just stated my account was closed for ONE returned payment, which I had promptly paid once I had been notified. After talking to multiple "representatives", they blame was put on "the system" and no factual information or feedback was given. So, my credit score takes a hit for an unknown reason and "customer service" provides no actual service at all. "Good" job Citibank.

Citi Bank issued us a $595 annual fee credit card without authorization. We did not sign an application, or agree to a credit check. We are not a customer. They will not help cancel the card unless we give them our full social security number. We did not activate the card and they activated it and charged us the annual fee. We called a second time and they refused to help us again unless we gave them our full social security number. Told us we would be responsible of the fee even though we are not a customer. It is showing on our credit report. They told us to call a lawyer if we wouldn't give them our number. Terrible. We have reached out to a lawyer.

Opened a savings account back in June 2025 with an offer to get American Airlines miles in an amount that was dependent on the deposit. It was stipulated that the money had to stay in the account for 3 months before getting the miles. After 3 months, I did not get anything and called numerous times to find out what happened. It took forever to speak to someone and nobody could say what happened. What I eventually found out was that they deposited the money in a wrong type of account (not my choice). When filing with customer service to get the miles promised, they denied the request and stated it was my fault. They were terrible!!!

Their credit card limits are a joke and their customer support is awful. Their process on how they manage accounts are archaic and very out of touch with modern technology. Their algorithms they use to determine credit worthiness is a joke. The credit card gets consistently declined and payments take a week to show up in the account even with direct connect to checking accounts. Just stay away and go elsewhere. There are so many better banks with cards that are managed better.

I couldn't understand what they were saying I was frustrated and so was they I spoke to five foreign people and answer the same question each and placed on hold each time. By the time I got to the right person I couldn't get done what I needed to do, I've been with this company a lot of years, and this is the treatment that they rendered to me. I recently visited the Citibank branch at London Square and was assisted by Andrés **, Personal Banker. From the moment we began speaking, Andrés demonstrated exceptional professionalism, patience, and clarity. He took the time to explain every detail thoroughly, making sure I understood all aspects of the banking services I was inquiring about. His customer service was outstanding, and I left the branch feeling confident and well-informed. I highly recommend Andrés to anyone seeking knowledgeable and courteous banking support.

Citi Bank wants me to commit tax fraud with them. Citi bank post a fraudulent charge on my account. I told them about it and Citi Bank refused to investigate the fraud. I refused to pay the fraudulent charge so Citi Bank started to charge interest on the fraud charge. So I stopped paying all together until Citi Bank corrected the fraud charge. I told Citi Bank I would pay my balance but not the interest, penalties, and the fraud charge that started this whole mess. Citi Bank came back with an offer. Let's say I owed $5000.00 citi bank just wants me to pay $2500.00. Then they will correct the damage they did to my credit report. I told citi bank I want to pay what I owe you folks. But I'm not paying those other fraud charges. Citi Bank doesn't want me to pay off what I owe in full. They want to show a loss so citi bank can use it to reduce their fed taxes. This is Tax fraud, I'm not participating in Tax fraud. So now Citi Bank has participated in Fraud twice with me.
I'm not giving Citi Bank a Dime. We are going to court to solve this case legally. Citi Bank should be kicked out of the USA. If Citi Bank is doing this to me god only knows how much fraud Citi Bank has committed at this point. In short Citi Bank is stealing Tax payers' money. See you in court Citi Bank for tax fraud and fraudulent charges you posted on my account. I'm a veteran. I'm not going to participate in fraud against my country or anyone. I have honor, respect, and loyalty to my country. Not to Citi Bank.

Just spent one and a half hours waiting to speak to a representative, then was told that my charge was valid and could not be removed. When I tried to further discuss the matter, the phone call was disconnected while I was in mid sentence. I had paid off the balance of my account in full over the phone the previous month, and was charged a full month of interest only on the next month's bill, even though I had clearly requested to pay the bill in full and was informed that this had been accomplished. I really want to dispute it, but getting someone on the phone is so difficult, and getting help online is virtually impossible, so I may just give up. There isn't a branch anywhere to visit in person... seems hopeless. NEVER again will I use Citi for any reason whatsoever.

I needed my 1099s from Citibank for tax purposes. I spent 20 minutes on the phone with a customer service representative, which already is a lot considering that on any institution's dashboard the tax forms takes about 10 seconds to access. The representative claimed to have found my 1099s, said she would email them, and 6 days later and multiple texts later, still no 1099s. When I have a problem with my accounts at Fidelity or Schwab, they are resolved in the time it takes to make a phone call (less than 5 minutes). Citibank is incapable. And why did I transfer my money out of the account and close it? I had a money market and it actually LOST money instead of making money. Unreal.

Horrible customer service. It takes me over half an hour to figure out how to connect to a human agent because the bank makes every way to stop you from doing so. Then the customer representative has a very strong accent and can not conduct English conversation properly - simply because he does not understand. After 2 hours on the line, nothing was moved forward. Horrible! I cannot believe this is the customer experience for a bank in 2025.

I've been a Citibank credit card customer for several years, using the Citi AAdvantage program for American Airlines points. I recently upgraded to the AAdvantage Executive card for the AA Admiral's Lounge membership. The problem is that Citi won't acknowledge that I've been a customer for years and is now placing 10-day holds on my credit line because I'm paying off the card in full at the end of each billing cycle. They just use the excuse that it is a new account and therefore has policy restrictions on it. Really ridiculous.

After navigating the automated system to even be placed on hold, about 10 minutes into my wait, the call was mysteriously disconnected. Citibank’s Mishandling of Unauthorized Charge & Poor Customer Service. In July 2025, I was overcharged by a merchant for a transaction I did not authorize. Relying on Citibank to protect and support me, I promptly provided Citi with clear proof of the unauthorized charge. Citi initially assured me that the matter would be resolved and that I would be reimbursed. Instead, Citi failed to follow through with their promise.
When I contacted Citi’s customer service to address their error, I was met not with professionalism, but with hostility, rudeness, and unprofessional conduct from their representatives “Nathan” and supervisor “Porche” during a recorded June 30, 2025 call. Their behavior included raised voices, repeated interruptions, and dismissiveness—conduct that is wholly unacceptable for any financial institution operating in the United States. Citibank’s subsequent responses have been boilerplate and evasive, failing to address the central issues or provide any meaningful resolution. Specifically, Citi has ignored the following:
Representative Misconduct – No acknowledgment or corrective action regarding the unacceptable behavior of their employees.Failure to Provide Resolution – My reasonable requests for (a) acknowledgment of wrongdoing, (b) a formal apology, and (c) assurances of corrective measures have been ignored.
This lack of accountability and disregard for customer relations is deeply troubling. No consumer should be subjected to such treatment, and Citibank’s failure to act responsibly raises serious concerns about their commitment to ethical standards and customer protection.

I could write on and on about my negative Citibank experience. I got brought in to this bank via a 0% offer for a 18mo balance transfer. As part of opening an account, they also had a 20k point offer if I spend $1500 in the first 3 mo or so. The communication about this, and dealing with their customer support has been dreadful. They have a customer support team that barely spoke English properly to me such that they could not explain their own product. Nothing made sense in terms of how they explained things to me and I had to chatGPT all my questions in order to understand things. They are inflexible and the reps I talked to (mainly India) - my god, I have never dealt with such a rude individual. I can go on and on but in summary, I do regret opening this card even though I was able to get a 0% apr offer. I have accrued fees over $400 although luckily I was able to recoup some losses via filing complaints to the CFPB.
Citi bank, I will never do business with them again. I hope you take this message as a warning before doing business with citi. This is the rough summary of my experience but please know this involved 10+ hours of phone calls, 25+ emails, and wasted time to do right by me. Several weeks of waiting for updates (specifically with the CFPB complaints) and more. I am surprised citi is able to function in this consumer fashion with the overwhelming amount of bad publicity/reviews. NOTE the screenshot attached are the fees / interest I have amassed due to poor communication and horrible customer service due to citi. I have never paid interest in my 10+ years owning credit cards until citi entered my life. Thankfully $360 was recovered due to the CFPB.

I sent a complaint to consumer protection and Citibank responded with not a full refund. My card info not physical card was stolen. They flagged on 9/10. I called and they cancelled card and issued me a new one. Before I even received card, the same thieves at the same places where it was previously flagged used it again. Yet me the owner, couldn’t even access my info online without new card cv. Citibank allowed same thieves to use my new card that I never received at the same places, same platforms etc, where it was flagged by them previously.
I called and they said they called the merchant and it was legit. How can it be legit if you flagged the charges a few days earlier at the same establishment or wherever purchase was made? I was told they just upload new card in any platform it was previously used on. So that means they gave the thieves access again to my account. Citibank needs to be investigated how they allow a stolen card to be used again at same place. They responded to consumer protection that they were giving me $104 back. That is not correct, they owe me $255,35. This is not acceptable. I have to go back and forth about fraudulent charges on a card I never even received. I have canceled my card permanently and Citibank really has no interest in helping. I want my full refund.

I open a Citbank Accelerate savings Account because of the good interest rate. I let it sit there, and accumulate interest, which does not seem unusual. I was locked out of the account because I had not done anything with it in two years! Is it unusual to open a savings account, and let it collect interest without adding or subtracting? Isn't that one of the purposes of a bank? I wanted to make a large addition to the account, but I am locked out. Inconsistent and inaccurate information shared by unhelpful customer support. I don’t totally blame the customer support team but the training they receive and different information they are given based on whatever supervisor they have. I wish I had them on a recording. So HOT TIP record your calls because they are super shady. Bottom line is they will do whatever means more money for them. Don’t accurately allocate payments with multiple loans. They are supposed to apply the last two payments to the deferred interest program coming due. Not the one with the higher interest rate. Yes, that’s the general rule. But not for the last 2 payments. So now I gotta pay 30% interest because they didn’t properly apply my last two payments and I was told they would on two separate occasions.
When I realized they didn’t properly apply the payments I called and they said oh nope that’s not right sorry you were told wrong. We’ll make it right. Again HOT TIL record your calls with them. Inconsistent and inaccurate information across the board. I’ve been a customer for over 20 years and will 100% be leaving them. As well as filing a complaint with consumer affairs. Citibank has the worse customer service of any bank I've ever had to deal with. ALL of their customer service reps are foreign, so the language barrier is impossible to deal with. I typically have to call in an average of 4 times to get something resolved. I've been denied access to tools and features that others have. I was told that since the account was new, that it would take 30 days. My landlord signed up for an account the same day I did and from day one, he had access to everything. The only difference is that I'm ** and he's **. I tried to send a wire, a typically thing. I set it up and was told it would go out by 1:30pm. 24 hours later, had I not called in, they said I needed to verify a few things. I was then asked 47 questions about where I got the money, how I earn my money, my relationship with my mom, when was the last time I travelled.
They consistently block my account for unknown reasons, which forces me to call into Citibank a minimum of 4 times daily to have my account unblocked. For example, I went to buy groceries at the store and my account was blocked for fraud. When I called in they said $325 at Publix was an odd charge and blocked it for fraud. I STRONGLY suggest you pick a different bank. Citibank is the worse and their branches are not much better. I went in to try and resolve all of this and all they did was give me phone number to call and said "at the branches we cannot help you with most customer service requests".
Needless to say Citibank is the worse bank on the planet. Don't open an account with them, if you value good customer service and actually being able to use your money. They make you feel like a criminal for wanting to use YOUR OWN MONEY and even worse if you're ** and trying to use your own money.

No one took ownership.
During that time, I was financially destroyed. I couldn’t pay my rent, internet, or basic food. I received threats due to unpaid debts and had to start psychological therapy because of the extreme stress and fear. I was humiliated in person and treated with indifference and mockery at branches. Only after filing formal complaints with federal agencies did I receive the check—in May 2025. No apology. No compensation. Nothing. Initially, my balance was approximately $765. Unexpectedly, it ballooned to approximately $1,665.38. CitiBank claims that a 24-month promotional balance was not properly "paid off." However, CitiBank failed to provide clear, adequate, and transparent communication about a critical requirement: that I, the consumer, had to proactively call them and explicitly instruct them to apply payments toward the promotional balance. Without such a phone call, they assert, the balance would automatically accrue interest — even though I made regular payments that exceeded minimum due amounts. This practice reveals several concerning violations.

I couldn't even transfer the money to a friend to help me out, because I did not have the debit card. They told me to go to a local branch. I live in Nashville. The nearest local branch in Chicago. I spent every day for week a total of six to seven hours on the phone (while very sick with pneumonia due to complications of the flu due to my rheumatoid arthritis and early onset Parkinson's Disease) and STILL GOT NOWHERE. Once I finally got my debit card, they said everything was resolved, ad it wouldn't have any further issues. So I foolishly deposited my next paycheck yesterday (for some stupid reason I actually believed them), which I needed access to in the next day or so. And they're now are saying they're holding it until the 25th and that this is NO WAY to override the computer or speed up receiving MY HARD EARNED MONEY!!
Because it's a computer program, there no one in the entire organization, that can help me, (of course that is according to them). So once again, I'll be going without some medical treatments, and I will have a number of bills that will not be paid because they're holding my money hostage (which those executives making the big bucks will never understand or even respond to). I have been talked down to, patronized offered hollow platitudes, dismissed, been hung up on, and I have had a thoroughly unpleasant banking experience with this company or the last month. I am shocked they are allowed to do this.
And I have never, in my forty years of banking, ever run into this problem, PERIOD. I HAVE BEEN IN TEARS, BEGGING FOR HELP AND A SOLUTION, BUT HAVE GOTTEN ZERO HELP. This company is horrible, uncaring, and wholly UNTRUSTWORTHY. DO NOT trust them with your money. They will continue to screw you and screw you. And for somebody who desperately relies on his funds for medical care and bills, not to be able to have access to my hard-earned money has been awful and made for a very rough month. PLEASE, FOR YOUR OWN SAKE, NEVER USE THIS BANK.

I must say in my triple decade of dealing with banks. Citi B is by far the worst of all. Their customer service is rude, take too long to answer, give you a runaround, then when you finally get a manager, they feed you lies just to get you off the phone. This happened more than 4X. Each manager will promise a lie then when you call back you can never get them. I have had it with them and I am soon planning to take them to court. Unless you stand up to them they will continue to blood suck your money with fees, late fees, and even open an account without your permission. Once you take out more than a thousand or two, they will reduce your loan amount to exactly what you owe which takes lots of points from your credit score. Luckily, I have every info needed in email and chat format to present to the court. Don't fight with them, just take them to court. I hope they no longer exist few years down the line!!

I’d like to share my recent experience with CitiBank regarding my 2 CDs. June 22-I received a letter saying they would mature on July 23 and I should contact you that day to renew or redeem. The letter is dated 6/18/24. July 23-I went to my app and was not given any option to redeem. Being on vacation, about to board another airplane, I had no option but to look again the next day. July 24-5 am-the only option I had on the app was to renew. I set it aside thinking there was a problem with the app. 3:30pm-looking on the app, one CD was now missing. I called Priority customer service, answered all their questions. I was told my “mother’s maiden name is incorrect” How does that change? They asked for my safe word-there was no option listed when I got the CD, but it did ask for my favorite sport. I was told all my answers were incorrect and I needed a safe word. I never gave a safe word.
When I asked how to resolve this I was told to “go to the nearest branch with an ID to validate identity” but the nearest branch is 7 hrs away from my home! That’s 14 hours of driving to fix the issue. I then asked to be escalated to a supervisor. At that point I was told to write a letter. I did not call the 25th or 26th—again, keep in mind I’m on a family vacation. Seeing no other options I began to draft a letter, hoping to copy the CEO. July 27-I called again-went thru everything again and was told to call fraud prevention. At that point I was told she “can’t do anything w/CDs” and sent back to customer service-another dead end. And over another hour wasted. I was told to call fraud prevention again. This woman said she would set up a security inquiry & I’d hear back. “I promise they’ll call you back in 24-48 hrs.”
July 29-after 54 hrs I called back and got the most helpful person- Denise in the Take Over Dept (who deserves a big raise). She validated my identity & waited patiently for customer service to answer so she could review all my information and explain the problem. That call lasted 1 ½ hrs but shortly after Customer Service received the call, the call was dropped.
I called back & asked them to review the notes Denise had put in the system. I was told she needed to confer with her support team. While I was on hold with her the CD “magically reappeared” on my app. After taking screenshots in case it happened again, I asked her to redeem both CDs and send the checks to my home. She said I’d receive the checks within 7-10 business days. When I asked what had happened, where my CD went, she had no answer.I submitted my letter to Citi via mail August 1, 2024. I received a response on September 10 stating that I would get a response in 60 days (November 10). Having not received a response on February 26, 2025 (169 days), I called customer service and did not receive an update. Needless to say, we will not be doing any future business with Citi.

Reviewing my Citibank bank monthly statement, as I was looking for my cashier’s check purchased (or otherwise known as an official check purchase) - I noticed that Citibank bank listed my Citibank official check aka cashier’s check purchase as CASH WITHDRAWALS even-though they transfer it directly out of my account for my purchase for the check. I have purchased the cashier’s check as a single transaction and also when performing other transactions. I could not find one of the many cashier's checks that I have purchased over the years identified on my bank statements because they all read as CASH WITHDRAWALS!
I have brain damage and needed help so I went into the Morgan Hill branch and Amanda was very helpful but when the branch manager, Kathy, came over to chastise me in front of Amanda and the rest of her staff for not asking for a receipt from the merchant that I provided the cashier's check to, and she continued to chastise me stating that it takes too much of her employees' time to help me find a copy of the cashier's checks that I purchased. I informed her that before my brain damage I was assisted IBM Credit Union perform internal audits and listing the cashier’s check purchase as a cash withdrawal is not transparent accounting for the customer or Citibank itself.
Kathy was enraged and had another customer not come into the branch and call her by name to pull her away from me - this woman looked like she was going to attack me while I was sitting at Amanda’s desk. I would like the investors and the internal and external auditors need to review and listen to the audio and bank video of this day in January 2025 and find out what is really going on in this branch. All of the employees know me well as I have had hardships the last four years. Kathy had always been decent up until that one abusive and hostile moment. Something is gravely wrong there.

Bank at Citibank at your own risk—your personal safety is not guaranteed, nor is your money safe. I was robbed at the ATM inside the branch during open hours. There was no security present, and none of the staff noticed what was happening, even though it was blatantly obvious—a tall man with a fully covered face was hovering over me at the ATM. After the incident, I immediately notified the bank staff, and the branch manager filed a report. I was assured that I would be reimbursed for the stolen funds. However, Citibank is now declining my claim, citing the fact that I was in possession of my ATM card and used my PIN—which, of course, is true because I was robbed while using the ATM.
To add insult to injury, I’ve now spent hours on the phone with various departments that claim they can’t help because of a rigid “process.” I’ve been told I must file an appeal via fax or letter. That’s right—no email, no online form, but instead outdated and unreliable technology (fax? Seriously?). It’s hard not to assume this convoluted process exists to discourage people from pursuing their claims. After over 20 years as a loyal Citibank customer, including banking and multiple credit cards, I find this entire experience appalling. This branch is clearly unsafe; the staff demonstrated extreme incompetence, and Citibank has reached a new low by denying a claim for a robbery that occurred on its own premises during business hours.

Out of nowhere, I was informed that my bank account had been closed due to suspected fraudulent activity. While I understand that protecting customers from fraud is a priority for banks, the suddenness of this action and the lack of communication left me quite unnerved.
What added to my stress was the fact that I wasn’t able to access my funds or make any transactions. I was promised that my remaining balance would be refunded, but it would take between 30 to 60 days to process. Waiting that long for my own money was not something I expected, and it led to a lot of financial stress. We also have the Holidays coming up. This is pure Evil.
Throughout this ordeal, I felt completely left in the dark. There was little communication from Citi Bank regarding what was happening with my account, why it was closed, or what steps I could take to resolve the situation. This lack of clarity made the whole experience even more frustrating. This incident has highlighted for me the importance of strong communication between banks and their customers. When a bank makes it that hard for you to give them your money I should have known it was going to be a nightmare trying to get my money back. Once the account was finally open I went online to create an online profile to look at my account. To my surprise, you are not able to create an online account. Your only option is to call a toll-free number to spend an hour, trying to get to a human being when you finally get to that human being there in the Philippines. They have a really hard time understanding you and you have an impossible time trying to understand them. If you talk to three different operators you will get three different answers. Talk to a supervisor you'll also get another different answer.
No one is held accountable for what they say so they just answer anything they want to get you off the phone. You can't do anything yourself online. You have to do everything through this toll-free phone number and they are completely incompetent. Knowing when my maturity date was coming, I planned ahead three months to try to make sure I could get away from this bank on my maturity date and not one day later. I sent all the transfer paperwork and they OF COURSE THEY SCREWED IT UP transferring my money on the wrong date. Now I had to spend countless hours on the phone trying to correct their mistake.
THEY DO NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO CORRESPOND WITH YOU IN AN EMAIL OR A FAX. So if you want a record of any discussion you have with them it has to go through regular mail! A CD secured loan is 6% or above i.e. them charging you 6% or more to lend you your own money since it is secured by your CD. Most ridiculous pricing you can ever find. Awful bank. I set up a checking account with them several years back. Deposited some money right away, and then again the following month to meet their $10k min deposit amount to avoid their $25 monthly service fee. Little did I know that they AVERAGE your monthly balance to determine whether you get hit with the fees. So, even though I had over $10k in the account, and it's even clearly stated on the monthly statement, because it wasn't all deposited at once, they started hitting me with the monthly $25 fee, which dropped the balance down below the $10k, resulting in many fees over the next few years.
They did NOT send me digital correspondence or any paper statements, so I didn't know this was happening until I got a warning email 2.5 years later saying that I was getting hit with fees! I never signed up for paperless billing, and ALWAYS do mailed paper statements, so that is the first part of their scam...to keep the client in the dark. This is a total "fine print" scam as a way to fraudulently steal money from depositors. I will never have anything to do with this bank again. They are un-trustworthy, and total scammers. Recently I contacted an associate of the bank and told him to transfer the proceeds of my CD to the Savings account on maturity which was two days from the date of contact. He agreed and when I check after a few days, the CD was renewed for a period of 9 months. Now I have to pay a penalty to get the CD amount. All the agents are out of US (India) and they do not understand the intensity of the issue. All they do is to keep customers on hold for many minutes then disconnect. The rating scale for Citibank should allow for ZERO stars... I opened a SEP IRA at Citibank in 2008, and started making withdrawals in 2023 (after turning 63). I have made 5 withdrawals and 4 have been royally screwed up by Citibank: the Retirement Plan Services (RPS) call center is offshore - Philippines, I believe - and the "back office" is in San Antonio and there is a total lack of communication and/or accountability between the two. In addition, customers don't have access to RPS accounts on-line to view account activity, making it nearly impossible to keep abreast of RPS accounts. Additionally, withdrawals from RPS accounts are handled by submission of paper forms, which is just bizarre in this computer age.
1) I submitted withdrawal paperwork in DEC2023, specifying a future distribution date in JAN2024. RPS processed the distribution and withheld taxes for the year 2023 but dated the withdrawal 2024. It took 10 calls and literally 6 months to get the 2023 1099R corrected! 2) While stilly trying to get the revised 2023 1099R, I received notice that DUPLICATE tax withholding was taken from my account - without my having submitted any paperwork or authorization. I called RPS and they informed me the withholding was "in error" and the amount had been deposited back into my account. Again, not having on-line access to my account, I asked for a written statement to this effect and an explanation for how the error was made. That was 4 months ago, and I have received NOTHING. All I have is the notice of the duplicate withholding.
3) I submitted for another distribution in APR2024 and, because I have had a problem with stolen mail, I asked to have the check sent via FedEx - and included a pre-paid, return-addressed Fed Ex label. My request was completely ignored and the check was sent via regular mail. 4) I submitted for another distribution in JUL2024 and again spoke to RPS about having the check sent vis FedEx. There RPS rep (Joseph) told me that if I want to the local Citibank branch and spoke to the branch manager, he/she could process the withdrawal and cut the check the same day. I went to the Castro St branch in SF and spoke to the manager (Marcos **), who was unaware of/how to do this. We tried calling Joseph at RPS but with the time difference he was not available. Marcos subsequently spoke to Joseph, and they determined that despite having been told otherwise, the bank manager could not process the withdrawal.
They came up with some workaround - the details of which In was not told - to have the distribution check sent by courier as requested. I was told repeatedly that Joseph would call me to give me the tracking number when the check was mailed. Several weeks later and without having received such a call, a check was delivered via USPS overnight. I wasn't able to deposit the check to my account immediately and 2 days later I received ANOTHER (duplicate) check via USPS. I went to the Castro branch and spoke to Marcos, who was perplexed but OFFERED NO APOLOGY, and said he was busy but would contact Joseph at RPS and call me later. A few hours later he did call - again, no apology - and said the initial check sent via overnight had had a stop hold put on it and the second check was valid. I asked for, but received absolutely no explanation and received no apology.
I asked for the name/number for a Citibank customer complaint and was given the general customer call center number. I called RPS and asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that "supervisors don't talk to customers". The level of incompetence at Citibank is utterly astounding, and the inability to even get an apology is inexcusable. No wonder they have and "F" rating with BBB.

Citibank is often regarded as one of the less favorable financial institutions in the USA. Although no bank is without flaws, Citibank frequently receives negative perceptions. The customer service overseas is poor and outside of US jurisdictions, which may expose customers to scammers. For instance, if employees in the Philippines earn approximately $2.00 per hour, an offer of "10" could lead to the immediate sale of your card information.

Customer service is clearly offshore, which is 100% fine, but let’s use a working phone line. Also they must be paid by call clearance because I was transferred to a department that had nothing to do with my issue. “Level up manager” Sima helped but really just did basic customer service stuff like letting me finish sentences, not hanging up, etc. the most insulting part is that they raised my credit limit to “help out”, and played dumb when I clarified that the balance transfer fee would also increase, so not helping. I was told that my social security number did not match, that my mother's maiden name did not match, and that I had moved recently (I had not moved). Repeated phone calls and internet attempts failed to let me access my account. In fact, one Citibank rep told me "this is not your account." It is obvious that someone was stealing my account. An attempt to get their fraud department to intervene failed completely. I continued to push the issue and eventually retrieved all my money but Citibank insisted that there was no identity theft. They also refused to but that in writing.

The security office displayed a lack of understanding about the real estate industry, particularly the nature of escrow and broker transactions, leading to unnecessary complications. Customer service was unhelpful, often ending calls abruptly without resolution. Despite the absence of cash transactions or bounced checks, and the origin of funds being a reputable local escrow office, the lack of trained staff and inadequate customer support has been highly problematic. While waiting for the closing of a property we wanted to get some interest on the money so, I wired transferred $280.000 from my bank account to my citi saving account following the customer service adviser that told me no fees would be charged and free movement of my money at the time of closing, then two days trying to wire transfer the money out to the attorney's bank, it seems like we had to do at least 6 wire transfers any with a $15 fee, more than 6 calls to get advise and help, any representative at the call center had a different misconception of the policies and steps, none of them with solutions.
The only solution was to travel 5 hours from NC to Washington to find a brick & mortar branch and do the wire transfer, by the way, very difficult transaction that could be all done by phone instead of traveling that lasted 3 hours. I received a call after 12 months saying my account had matured and I needed to close it and get my money or close it and reinvest. I decided to close it and get my money. I was told a check would be mailed despite my wanting it directly deposited to my bank account. I was told that was not possible because it was not a Citi bank account despite the fact that I electronically set up the CD with the same account. I was not told if I didn’t feel comfortable I could go into a local branch and get the money there. A check was mailed and after 3 weeks it was still not received.
Post office was contacted multiple times and a supervisor even came out and checked every mailbox in my building to be sure it wasn’t put in the wrong box and Citibank was contacted via phone and in person. The local branch suggested I have a new check issued and sent to the bank instead of mailed. I agreed. I called and set this up. When the bank never received the funds I called Citibank only to find out this process had never been initiated by the supposed supervisor I spoke with and wasn’t possible. Weird because the prior supervisor who supposedly set it up said it was and it was suggested to the branch by customer service. I Called again and spoke to another supervisor who said she would stop payment and would issue a new check that would be mailed UPS within 24 hours. It’s been over 48 hours and still nothing. Called again and the first person I spoke with said the request was never processed.
Finally another supervisor said yes it was and for me to keep waiting. It’s been 6 weeks and 8 phone calls, 4 trips to the bank and I am still missing most of my life savings. There is no letter, email or anything that I have from Citibank to reassure me my money is not just gone. They say they can’t do that. Instead I just have to wait. I had to reopen the dispute by printing the letter from citibank, signing it, taking a photo of it and then emailing it to them to reopen the case.
The case had to have been closed without any evidence from the merchant! They never shipped the product and could not provide proof that they had, and I also had proof that the merchant informed me that there was no product to ship and that they would be refunding me. Anyway, after submitting my proof, it took Citibank 2 MONTHS to resolve the dispute in my favor. During that time they had reversed the credit and I had to pay the balance during the reopened investigation.

If there was a rating less than 0, I would give it to this Citibank on Richmond avenue, Staten Island, New York. I have been doing business with this bank for almost 20 years. and a few days ago I noticed some discrepancies in my account, I went today April 22, 2024 to ask about this matter. The young man who was at the entrance printed me a statement with the balance, I told him that I didn't want that. This young man was very nasty, rude, he told me that he didn't know, I told him to look for the manager, and he and another woman told me that there was no manager in the branch, which I realized that she She was the manager and that this woman, supposedly a manager, was too busy to assist me.
I am very disgusted with this bank and someone has to do something. These two individuals, the manager and the person who helped me, were more concerned about offering DC to people than entering the bank, and they even told me that they didn't care if I closed my account, which I went to the window to do. This bank has become garbage, I hope it's just that branch, but I don't want to do business with Citibank anymore, and look, I've given it more than 20 years of profit.

As a long-time Citibank customer since 1999, I recently encountered a frustrating and unacceptable experience while attempting to regain access to my account after moving back to the United States after living abroad for 10 years. On March 7, 2024, I visited the Citibank branch in Suffern, NY, to update my personal information, including my current address. Despite providing my passport, debit card, and PIN to the representative, who verified my identity and updated my details in the system, the process quickly derailed.
The representative connected me with the Fraud Department, who informed me that a letter with a reference number would be sent to my new address. I would then need to call back with this number to gain account access. The Suffern branch representative confirmed my updated address with the Fraud Department. However, after more than two weeks of waiting, no letter arrived.
When I followed up with the Suffern branch, the representative had to conference in the Fraud Department again. Disappointingly, the Fraud Department representative disregarded the branch's previous verification and updates, asking redundant questions. They could not confirm which address the letter was sent to, suggesting it may have gone to an old, invalid address due to their lack of coordination.
Furthermore, the Fraud Department claimed that my new phone number was not associated with my name in public records, preventing them from identifying me. Despite promptly updating my phone number to match my account and allowing nearly three weeks for the change to propagate, I was still denied access when I called again. Shockingly, when I attempted to seek further clarification or escalate the issue, the representative abruptly hung up on me – a tactic they have repeatedly used to avoid resolving my case.
Although the Suffern branch representative seemed to try their best, it is astonishing that providing all required identification in person cannot grant me access to an account I have held for over 15 years. Citibank's disorganized processes, lack of interdepartmental communication, and unprofessional conduct have left me appalled and considering legal action to regain access to my hard-earned money. Citibank's treatment of a loyal customer is unacceptable, and their identity verification procedures need significant improvement to prevent others from experiencing such a frustrating and unnecessarily complicated ordeal.

The attitude I received today was uncalled for. I've called twice and both times they are incredibly lost and confused. For example, I made a balance transfer to the Citi credit card in question, and the first bill showed the payment I was told I should expect, around $100, but the second billing cycle it showed the ENTIRE AMOUNT AS DUE IMMEDIATELY. I called them and asked what on earth was happening and they said not to worry. Well sorry Citi, every consumer would worry when presented with a bill like that after being promised it would not be a reasonable payment schedule on a reasonable balance transfer. (Yes, I read the fine print multiple times and Citi made an enormous error).
As there's no way to close one's credit card account via the app or online site, I had to call them and actually had to speak with an agent, who continuously tried to force me to keep the card. I ended up having to tell this agent that I simply don't have the financial situation where I can pay Citi's (or any credit card's) endless fees and such (who does??) and every other company allows people to close their accounts with the automated service, thereby bypassing all the arguing that Citi gave me this morning.
At that point, the agent made me click a link via text and HUNG UP ON ME. And this is after I had already spent 30 minutes navigating their ridiculous phone system. Really? Is that how you treat clients Citi? When I went back to the site to locate the phone number for executive escalations, there is none, nor is there an email or physical address to report the bad behavior of ignorant employees. I contacted Citi via their chat and was told that there is NO DEDICATED COMPLAINTS TEAM AT CITI, and they wouldn't hear what I had to say. I guess this is why all Citi business listings on BBB.org hold a rating of F.

However, customer service told me that neither the representative nor the supervisor could help and that I should see someone at the bank, giving me the runaround. During my visits to the bank, they always tried to persuade me to enroll in long-term CDs. But when I began withdrawing money, that ceased, and now my account is being cancelled. It seems they need your money to lend to others.
Upon researching, I found this seems to be happening to many people, particularly long-term customers. They are also replacing actual people with AI, which may be incorrectly flagging accounts for cancellation. In addition, they have terminated many employees recently. Citibank refunded my loan application fees, but refused to take responsibility for my other losses. The two new loan options were much more expensive in both fees and monthly payments, and were not comparable to the original loan through the Home Run program. I thought that since Citibank was a big organization, I could trust their loan process. But I was very wrong. I was led to believe I qualified for a loan through the Home Run program, but at the last hour the loan offer was revoked and replaced with options of two more expensive loans.

Here's the problem: you can't use it to do balance transfers unless you are "selected" and receive a separate balance transfer offer from them. It's been over a year now, so the 0 APR on purchases has come and gone, and the balance I've been trying to transfer has continued to accrue 13 months of interest. I check the account weekly and attempt to do the balance transfer, click on the "start a balance transfer" option, and every time find the message that I have "no balance transfer offers available at this time."
I've contacted customer service multiple times, and every time they assure me that it will probably be any day now when I receive the chance to actually utilize the balance transfer option, but there's nothing they can currently do to help unless I want to upgrade to a higher level card, in which case I could use the balance transfer option at any time. I disputed the charge with Citibank. They immediately cancelled my card saying the company was a fraudulent company and said to send them all the proof of correspondence, which I did. They denied the dispute because of the time that had passed (me trying to deal with the company directly) despite all the proof of them promising to refund the money. They would not re-open the case and would not listen to one thing I had to say. I cancelled the card and will never do business with them again. I had had the card since 2004. I started a new account with Citi Bank on their website. Tried several ways to transfer funds from my external Bank to the new Citi Bank, after receiving physical Debit card. Having no success, I finally reached someone on the CS number. I was told that I could do it thru any Citi Bank ATM. After spending money to go to 2 different Citi Bank ATMs, neither TOOK DEPOSITS! I called to complain on 9/29/23, and to cancel my new acct. later that evening I saw that Citi Bank had accepted 20 cents from my present bank, which was sent as a Test to verify my Citi Bank account was valid, as I added the Citi Bank Account as an External Bank. However, Citi Bank lists that same bank card and account "INVALID". Wednesday of this week, I received a New Debit Card from Citi Bank, with the same Funding instruction.
Today, Friday, I called the 8006273999, again. First I get a Female CSR that couldn't understand that telling me the NEAREST Branch to an address that I gave her was not the same as AT that address. Finally speaking to a Manager, we went round and around before he told me that there are NO physical Citi Bank Branches in Jacksonville, FL. In Florida, the nearest is Boca Raton. He, The Manager, said the other locations listed on the sites with their name are ATMs only. He could give me no way to deposit cash in Jacksonville, unless I travel to southern Florida! That was the last straw! I'm cutting up this card and putting my cash in a PHYSICAL BANK! There is something dishonest with a Bank that does not have physical Branches in cities where they have account holders; As well as, or accept cash deposits locally. Run away from registering with this "bank?"!!!

I have been with Citi for almost 15 years and I have had my account compromised a few times due to fraudulent activities. Recently it was compromised for the 3/4th time and I had filed a dispute for 2 transactions with Walmart of almost $700. They gave provisional credit and they said investigation can take up to 90 days. I had to call Walmart to ado for their assistance and they said they had sent all documents to my bank and noted it was fraudulent because they saw my card was used and other than my billing info the rest of the information was different. After 2 mos disputing they said they sent me a letter wanting me to fill out and send back to provide to Walmart of my reasoning as to why they are fraudulent. I only knew that after going back and forth with citi customer service over the phone. I also had go to a local branch since I was getting nowhere with them.
Due to not sending that letter which I never got but they claimed they sent it, they found me responsible for all these fraudulent charges. They sent me proofs that Walmart sent them and clearly those were never mine. I am beyond upset with Citibank. All proof were there as me not purchasing any of these items, they had the person who stole my information had a different name and email and phone number yet Citibank found me at fault because I never got the letter that was supposed to be sent? Now I’m out almost $700 all because some ** stole my card info. How is that fair that Citibank found me at fault?
I was told to appeal it and I did. Then upon following up they said they never received my email which I was told to do. This bank is a joke. I have never spoken to so many representatives over the phone explaining as to what happened. It’s sad they give their clients the runaround and you can’t talk to anyone about this but over the phone. I have never had experience such bad customer service with any bank but theirs! My account was locked by Citi. I called and spoke with someone in India who gave me a playbook, disinterested, and somewhat rude response and told me it would take up to 4 days to resolve. After pushing hard against the nonsense, I spoke with someone in the US who resolved the issue in 15 minutes. Then two paychecks from different employers were received by Citi but not deposited in my account on the same day as the temporary lock. The team in India said it was the fault of the separate employers (one check each), and not because of Citi's temporary account lock. I explained that their position cannot be correct (reasonably, it makes no sense, we've been doing this for literally years) and Citi would not budge. Now I have to hope that the two separate employers can resolve the issue or perhaps stop the checks and issue new ones.
The inability of the teams in India to be creative and helpful has been a problem with Citi for more than a decade, since they outsourced these services for everyone below CitiGold. It makes Citi a predictably maddening and unfortunate experience. My first experience with the Citi teams in India was trying to secure a HELOC. Certain information was incorrectly processed and the HELOC was denied. The team in India told me that the application was closed and there was nothing they could do. I demanded to speak to someone in the US, and the issue was cleared up and the HELOC was approved. Certain things seemingly cannot change with Citi, but I as a consumer can and will change my bank.

I had purchased what I thought was an authentic YSL Kate Tassel bag back in December from Lord and Taylor online retailer. The bag was a fake. After submitting proof from 2 separate authentication sites/persons they granted me a temporary chargeback only to take the money back about a month later. Since this bag was counterfeit Lord and Taylor is violating Federal Counterfeiting Laws and I am entitled to a refund without sending that piece of garbage back. Citibank has Counterfeiting chargeback code (4853) that they can use to refund my money.
Citibank stated that I was not due the refund bc I never returned the item. BY LAW I am not obligated to return it bc if I do some other unsuspecting consumer will be defrauded just like I (and hundreds of others) have been by this retailer. I didn't realize that Citibank thinks it is above Federal laws. I am SO disgusted as to the disregard I was shown by a bank that not only holds my mortgage but I have been a customer of for the past 46 years. After filing NUMEROUS appeals I got rejected and told I need to resolve this with the merchant. SO disappointed.

I had to go to the dealership and handle the dispute myself in order to get my money back. This bank again has horrible customer service most of them barely speak English well enough to understand they do not help and they make it very difficult to use your own money. They are playing with people's lives when it's more than $500. They should do their job and help their customers.
Some people have to budget in life in order to survive and when $5k goes missing and they don't help and your family is out $5k for almost a month. Not going into major detail. I attend college outside of the United States of America, and was advised by several people and institutions here in the USA that Citibank was the best card for large international purchases. Instead, it has been unmanageable chaos for the last six months. For the first two years, and most of the third, I was able to pay my monthly tuition easily and with no issues. Suddenly the payment stopped going through, and I had to spend over an hour on the phone getting the last three payments through every month, and now Citibank is refusing to let me use my card to pay, stating that it is the College that is having difficulty, even though they (Citibank) fully admit that they (Citibank) are the ones who cannot process it.
I have spent over three hours on the phone with customer service, the head of the fraud department, and now another nondescript supervisor, who have all stated that the problem is on their end, has then been fixed and/or bypassed, and have waited as I try and use my credit card, and it has been declined, again (and again, and so on), and so they have decided that it simply cannot be on their end, despite the system on their end being the one to decline the charge and not allow it to go through. They then turned around, after another 35 minutes being on hold, and said that it actually was the fraud department who were still blocking any charges from going through. They then backtracked, and admitted they had no idea what was going on, and then started patronizing and saying that they didn't really know what had happened but they were going to start to figure it out, this is after two hours that turned into three.
It seems as though Citibank has very little interest in making their credit card system actually user friendly for their own employees, let alone for actual customers. This has the unfortunate side affect of not allowing ANYONE to use the system in the way that Citibank advertises it, namely to make purchases, small or large, with ease, no matter how, where, or when one is doing so.
Being on the phone for over three hours, and then being told that they just cannot do anything, so it MUST be the other institution, despite there being no indication of that fact, is, in my opinion, an unacceptable way to run a company that works with the public. I did in fact use my debit card from another banking institution, and it worked perfectly, so this was entirely Citibank's own issue. I would highly advise to use any other credit card company, as Citibank cares very little about resolving issues, even repeating ones, and even less for the customers they supposedly cater toward.

Insufficient Verification in place for customers with no US phone number. I have a checking joint account which has been dormant and for which the bank charges $30/month. I decided to transfer the balance and close the account. Since the first attempt I made multiple calls, spent over 10 hrs, was hanged-up on, and was told that I cannot be verified as I do not have an American phone number. I am a Canadian citizen with a Canadian mobile number that all Citibank employees with an exception of one employee from the Fraud Dept. could not reach me. I was told 3 times that the transfer is OK to go through only to get an email that it is on hold and I need to call the bank for verification. So, I called again only to hear that they cannot verify me with my Canadian phone number. I was also told that my September bank charges will be waved but when I logged in, the wire transfer appeared on hold and the account had a negative $30 charge.
What is frustrating about this ordeal is the inconsistency process I have been put through. One employee was able to reach me by calling for verification and one was able to use my email for providing a code I had to read back. I have to say that the staff I spoke to was nice; however, based on the outcome I feel that they do not know the process or are poor on problem solving to resolve issues such as mine. I have hard time believing that in current times Citibank is not serving its customers with international phone numbers who left the country and are at the bank's mercy for verification. Even living by US border with WA State I cannot go to the bank as they do not have any branches there. Based on my experience, I highly suggest not to do business with Citibank as it is not reliable/consistent with customer service information and your interest is not their priority.
