So far, AAG's service has been good. My agent has been really helpful, so I’m glad. She's a kind lady. I am gathering some information right now from my job. We're waiting to get the appraisal.

Everybody I have come in contact with over at AAG, Barbara and Teresa, were absolutely wonderful. The process is good, but it is slow. I received in the mail the certificate to be sent back, and Nancy can't sign it. She's in the hospital until I get her. I’ve been working again. I have my taxes here that she has to sign. We still haven't taken care of that yet. I was gonna send that in and was gonna call Teresa and tell her team that what's going on is that we’ll stop here for a minute because of Nancy. So far, I find AAG to be very professional and excellent. They sent me stuff in the mail. They send me stuff through the computer. I would give them all A-pluses. They're very good people to work with. They seem to understand the difficulties of following everything.

I am super impressed with the process at AAG. Chris has been terrific. He walks me through each and every item. If I have any questions, he's more than happy to explain them. So far, I've been super thrilled with the fact that I haven't had to leave the house. The councilor was amazing too. His name was Brian and he was as helpful and concerned as Chris is. The lady that did the notary, I was blown away that she came to my house, and I didn't have to go to an office or a bank for all the notary signing. She brought a whole book of documents that I could read up on. I do not have a computer or even a cellphone. I live in a cellphone dead zone. Everybody, especially Chris, makes sure that I get the paperwork necessary. He's been UPS-ing it to me 'cause I don't know how to do it and that's been a godsend.

It's been a very positive and informative experience with AAG. The information that they have sent me gave me very insightful information and left me with not too many questions. So, I was gratified. The rep was a very pleasant person. He would call in and check in with me to make sure that I was okay with what I've learned. If I had any more questions, he let me know that I could either call them or I could email him anytime. Now, I am waiting to get the counselors to talk to me and give me any more understanding that I may not have. Anytime they get the extra information, just in case I've missed something, is wonderful. I am happy to know that the company wants to be sure I know what I'm getting into.

Our AAG rep was great and very informative. We were just not pleased with how much our house is worth and how much we were gonna get. In fact, today, I called and canceled it because we decided not to go with it. I would still highly recommend AAG. It was just not feasible for us at this time.

I was looking at the different reverse mortgages and AAG was highly rated. I had contacted them and a couple of other ones, and I decided that AAG was the best one. Everybody was really good. It's just I've never had a reverse mortgage so it's been more of a process going through the HUD. They sent me everything out, and I've been researching this for about six months. At this point, I'm just waiting to meet with HUD.

I was very happy with AAG before. We wanted to redo the house we bought and we used them again. The rep I worked with was very knowledgeable and answered any questions that I had. Any time she was gonna call back, she did. Her name is Jenny. We were very pleased with her. I just wish the estimated time of closing was closer.

It was easier for me to get my arms around my financial affairs and have everything in one homogeneous location other than trying to do it piecemeal. Hulu brought everything together. I didn't have to just take a lump sum of cash. I could have it somewhere so it would be out of sight, out of mind, or there for a rainy day fund. So, I really like that aspect of it. Everything is taken care of and I can manage it a lot easier.
My rep is excellent. She is more than willing to any questions I have, follow up and make sure that I'm comfortable with her answers. She really hasn't been pushing with anything because I know I should've had this stuff done last week, but she was like, "Okay." The email's like, "Okay, here's exactly what we need and go ahead and get this knocked down," I have no qualms with her.

I've been working with my grandmother and AAG through the process. We're currently still waiting on the underwriters to get ready to order out the appraisal. It's been almost a month now and we still don't have a closing date nor do we have the appraisal done. Felicia, the rep we’ve been working with, has been very responsive for anything we've had. She’s been trying to get the times and meetings in. I like the setup of how a reverse mortgage works, in general, for the elderly. There should not be variable interest rates. Or if there are variable interest rates, they should be kept at a lower rate than almost 9.5%. AAG offers fixed rates. However, when they present you the going rate, they present the variable rate, which sounds a lot more attractive than when you find out what a fixed rate is.

Jared, the rep, was willing to talk and answer questions. I liked his friendliness. Sometimes though, it was difficult calling and leaving a message and not returning my call. But the process didn’t take very long. The only problem was getting the paperwork for the counseling. Our first interview with counseling was supposed to be May the 3rd but I did not receive any information from AAG that I needed to do the counseling. They supposedly sent it the other day but there was no paperwork in the envelope at all so I had to call Jared to tell him that the envelope was empty. So, AAG sent it again and it’s supposed to come today.

The reps at AAG were terrific and the communication was excellent. It was worthwhile. It's been a very enjoyable and easy experience. So far, it's been far easier than anticipated. I thought this was gonna be, as a lot of these financial things are, drawn out, paper-filled nightmare. But it's been great.

He called us just as soon as we talked to him and his service couldn't be more outstanding. The reps I had sounded really good and were knowledgeable. Communication-wise, I got right through most of the time. There were a couple of times when my rep was not there and I had to leave a message. The only thing that I would have wanted was for the actual guy that I talked to from AAG to come out to the house and sit down with us. A friend of mine did that when he got his reverse mortgage. But it didn't happen. We're in Arizona and the guy I talked to is in Newport Beach, California. Other than that, I've been through everything such as the counseling. That was helpful and I liked that.

My wife is in a hospital in Florida so I wasn’t able to get her to sign off on the places where she was able to sign. I won’t be able to do that until she gets home. I talked to Kim and she said there was about 30 days. But I told her my wife is gonna be in the hospital for about 30 days. We tried every way to get in where I could do it and my daughter, but we weren't able to. My AAG representatives were very nice and they laid out everything for me. I've got more paperwork than I could possibly imagine and I read through it. I got it in the mail and online. I also went to the counseling service where I found that they can only raise the rate five points no matter what and there are other options. I'm still looking into those other options but I'm still leaning towards the reverse mortgage.
AAG has been very forthcoming. Reverse mortgage is very complicated and it's a difficult thing. They've been very good at explaining everything. One thing that I like about them so far is them saying, ”It is complicated. We're letting you know. And there are other options.” If you've looked at other options, that's good. If you haven't, then they suggest you look at them which isn't something somebody does when they're trying to sell you something.

We were refinancing a reverse mortgage and it was different with my situation, being younger, and then my mom moving in and I'm inheriting the house. It wasn't where I'm getting money out of it. Everything was explained to me very well but it was an unusual case for most people to take on. But, my rep Terry took the time. He's very well seasoned and he has been in the business a long time. His experience was just what I had prayed for. He's very calm and methodical and that helped me with the process and with what we needed to know.
Considering the way that this is, the process is okay. He was able to help us when nobody else could help because of my age. I'll be 65 in November so, I qualified because I'm a senior, but I didn't qualify for the amount that it was to pay off this loan amount that my mom had. Terry was able to work things out and get approval quickly for me to be able to put some of my money that's from the sale of my home to pay my mom's old reverse mortgage and have a new reverse mortgage in my name with my mother on it. He also locked in my rates which was nice. I'm very happy with AAG. They're very helpful and it's worth giving them a call.

There was a lot of confusion as far as people talking about reverse mortgages. A lot of people say it's absolutely wonderful, other people will say run as quick as you can, don't get involved with it. I wasn't really sure if I was making the right decision or not. But after talking to the counselor, I felt that this was what I wanted to do and should be doing.
Marilyn, the girl we've been working with at AAG, has really been on top of everything and explaining things very thoroughly to us. It's the process of nowhere yet, but this was the last hurdle with the inspection. She called me yesterday to let me know that the guy that was going to do the inspection in the house was going to be here at 10:30 and not to forget to be here today at 10:30. She's a very pleasant person and nice to work with.

The process was pretty slow. I didn't realize it would take this much time to get this thing done. It wasn't something I was aware of. I'm not mad about it but it wasn't something I was aware of. I'm not sure that the counseling did any good but it's a federal requirement. Most of the steps we went over, I already understood. The counseling portion was one of the things that dragged out the process because I had to wait a week or two just to take it. One of the things that really surprised me was the process of going through and answering all the questions and signing the papers. It took hours. There was no warning. I understand that all that stuff has to be done, but a heads up and let you know the time involved would make it a lot better for me.

The experience with AAG has been very good. We're just in the application process for one of the reverse mortgages and so far, they've answered all of our questions and made it very easy to understand everything that has to be done. We submitted the application yesterday and the counseling was today. All I have to do is finish processing our information and do an appraisal, and we'll be done. The rep has been very helpful and anytime I’ve called him, I've either reached him by phone or he has called me right back. Based off my experience so far, AAG has been very informative and responsive to all of our questions. I would recommend them.

He’d been very good at answering all of my questions from 1 to 10 that I wanted to ask him, and he kept me informed on everything. I have been thinking about this for some time after my husband had passed. I’m trying to raise my kids, and I only have Social Security to rely on. I had to send my proof of income, insurance on my home, and a bank statement, and I'm just getting ready to fax them now. AAG told me how much my home was appraised for. They also told me that they were going to set aside a percentage of money for the taxes and the insurance, and what'd be left, they were gonna give back to me.

I started calling them, and they seemed redundant. They weren't bad, but everybody repeated themselves. I talked to Karen first, and she said, "You need to do this to see who's out there and who can help you." She was who I talked to the most at AAG and was able to answer all the questions I had or suggest things that I didn't think of. That part's been satisfied. She makes sure that I understand it fully if I ask a question about it. I'm not worried about anything because everything she said seems to fall into place. She told me who was gonna do what when, and that's happened. The process has moved right along and nothing slowed up. When I've been told things, they came to fruition. So far, the process has gone very well. I'm surprised. Right now, I'm waiting on the appraiser.
I'm probably more satisfied than most people. I used to be a realtor and first learned about reverse mortgages about five years ago. We talked to a couple of other lenders and we felt comfortable with Paloma, the rep from AAG. It's just that I was not too happy with the things that we had to go through such as having the company talk about loans and ask whether or not they give certain information. While the person was good on that, they charged us $200 just to hear the same thing that we got through AAG. This kind of frustrated me. They told me that it would be like $125 and when we called, it was one dollar off $200 just for somebody to talk to us for 40 minutes. The thing that frustrates me the most is that business has not been in person. In all of our loans in the past, we have always been able to look the person in the eye and be able to get to know them a little bit better. The way that loans are done today is cold. I don't feel really comfortable when I'm not talking to somebody in person.
As far as the reverse mortgage process, AAG gave us a lot of information. They're giving us enough paperwork and phone calls for us to be able to understand what a reverse mortgage is and what it's going to cost us. The processor is fairly clear. They try their best to be able to get things taken care of. It's just that their system itself for getting that reverse mortgage causes it to be time-consuming, but that's probably better than them not giving us full information.

So far, I've been pretty happy with AAG. The advisor that I've been in touch with has been very helpful. He's a talker, but he's helped us move through the program. But a couple of things could be a little better on some of their quality control stuff. For example, we were two weeks into the process and they sent me a large packet, probably 80 pages front and back, about some preliminary information about a contract and it was unreadable. It came through a Xerox machine with practically no ink in it and there was a streak. As a customer, you feel a little underappreciated that somebody would be willing to send that to you when it's obviously unreadable.
So I called our advisor and told him about it. He said that he was sorry and that he couldn’t control what the office did. He had them send me another one, but I haven’t got the other one. Other than that, I've been to the counseling session and it was worth every penny of my $125. The fellow that did it for us was very slow and deliberate, answered every question that we had, and made sure that in every step of the line, we understood what he was saying. So after the call, both my wife and I felt like we had a much better understanding on what a reverse mortgage is as well as the strengths or weaknesses of it, and it was an excellent review.
We’ve also learned some information in this process that was new to us. I researched reverse mortgages, even before I made the call to AAG, to review them and try to understand as much as I could about them. I still have more questions to ask, but that won't happen until I'm given an actual contract at some point down the road and I will be reviewing that. But I would make sure that people understood what this is and see if it's right for you. I would also tell people that some of the horror stories that they've heard about it, at least so far as I've learned, are just bad horror stories.

The guy I'm dealing with, Eddie, was able to email me quite a bit and help me with getting some of the tougher stuff I needed to get. I have a small Social Security and my wife has Social Security. The big stumbling block was on my pension and I had to validate exactly when I was receiving it. I furnished the last couple of years of my tax forms but they needed something that validated that I started my pension. Once I got that, it was pretty good.
So, everything has been set up except for the appraisal. But it's been pretty smooth. The biggest question that I had with reverse mortgages is if it gets 15 years down the road where the value of the property didn't add up to what the loan amounted to, would I be responsible to pay that difference. With the mortgage insurance that they have, I'm covered by that. I like that we can stay here for the rest of our lives and not have to worry. For people who have a few kids that they want to leave everything to, a reverse mortgage might not be the best decision but for my wife and I, it was good.

We signed our application through DocuSign on Friday, and we haven't heard anything except we did get two things in the mail that are unexplained. One was a FedEx return label for something. Then yesterday, we got a letter from them saying that they had given us a good faith estimate for an ARM, and that it had been changed to a good faith estimate for a fixed one, which we're not interested in. On the sheet, there were five different things they could have checked, and the one they checked was at the end, and it was “Other”. The things that they gave as examples of “Other” are if we didn’t have insurance, or we’re in a floodplain, or environmental problem. None of those things apply. So, we don’t know why it got switched, and we’re not interested in that anyway.
The guy we dealt, Greg, seemed very competent. He answered every question that we had. He seemed like he knew what he was doing. We really liked him, but he just kind of vanished. He could call right now, and we'd go, “Oh, okay. This all makes sense, we're good.” It hasn't been enough of a gap to make us completely not want to do it, but right now, we're waiting to see what’s gonna happen.

The application expired with AAG. I didn't even know about the lien and it took too long for them to tell me about it. It was up to me to try to get it resolved but the time period then was short. I got in contact with them but they were taking long to resolve it, and they wanted to get more. It was back and forth. The loan officer I was dealing with in California couldn't continue because Andrew Cuomo had passed a law that he had to be licensed in New York. But he was a very good guy. He would walk me through everything. If he were still doing it, it would have gotten done. I had to go back over and my wife didn’t wanna do it. I’m sorry that it didn't go through. But it’s something that if my wife will have a change of heart, I would do again in a heartbeat.

I'm retired and have no income so AAG was the best decision for me. It's been excellent so far. The process is not over yet but it's been easier than I thought. I was confused for a while but they were good about answering all my questions. They're very open and non-condemning. Any question I ask isn't stupid, which I really appreciated. I haven't been treated well in the past by other mortgage companies so this was a change for me and I respect it.

Elizabeth was awesome. I've managed businesses for 40 years and I would hire her in a minute. I was impressed with her quick response time. She made about five contacts with me to let me know the process, how it was going and what stage we were in. Anything I needed to know, I pretty much knew ahead of time because she informed me.
I did a lot of research prior to the counseling, but the person I dealt with did answer a few questions and enlightened me with some of the things I didn't have knowledge of. So, it was good. HUD wanted a second appraisal because we were appraised higher than what they thought it would. They've been very good with keeping me informed on that.

It was explained to me kind of thoroughly. Steven was his name. I’m having serious issues and it’s kind of hard to get me set up with the gentleman that’s come out to get the application on paperwork. That was supposed to be at 1 o’clock a couple of days ago. I can’t stay in the house by myself now and my sister was unable to come back and stay with me yet. So, that kind of slowed the process down a bit. Other than that, everything has been fine. Tim at AAG was personable and gave us all the information right off the bat. So, we didn’t have any particular surprises. He was very thorough and given us good information too that we've been able to make our own decision from. So, we had a positive experience. We finally decided to go with AAG last Monday and I told Tim to go ahead. He has initiated the counseling session that's required and sent us the paperwork that we need for that. So, I'm going to be looking at that information and we'll have our counseling session on Thursday. Then, it'd be a matter of getting the appraisal and getting the actual process going. So, it's not done yet.
We've been at it about three weeks and it’s a reasonable timeframe. Maybe before AAG starts the process though, they could look at Zillow to get an idea of what the house is worth. I had way undervalued it initially and it turned out to be worth a lot more than I thought. So, we set up a bigger loan. If somebody was just starting up, they should check out the value of their house instead of guessing.

My adviser was very knowledgeable and a super salesman. They described the reverse mortgage very early on, so I was getting interested in it. I told them I was gonna talk to my daughter and they told me, “Be sure you don't do anything big without talking to us.” The next time they called, I started bringing up these objections and they were shut down. I was almost ridiculed and felt I was being disrespected. I appreciate that was the salesman's style and I don't hold it against him, but it was a sales tactic. It wasn't advising tactic.
I looked up AAG's website and saw some of the awards they’ve gotten here locally. I had a very good impression about it. I was pleased to find out that they were the largest reverse loan mortgage company. They were offering a service that was needed and I had a pretty good feeling about them. But if they're that good, how come they're using these strong-arm, pretty high-pressure sales tactics? If you have a good product, people come to you. I lost my respect for the company because of those kind of tactics. One thing that was also difficult and sent up a red flag was a request for a social security number early on. But that was dropped.

The notary was here and brought tons of papers for me to sign. It sounded like posey when she was doing one of her speeches. I signed first, then I went back through the papers and read them. There's a part that says I’m responsible for the taxes, which I don’t have a problem with, but it didn’t say which taxes. Is this taxes on the whole amount that they’re giving me or on the evaluation that they've made on my house? Or is it the same valuation that I have on my house now, that I have to pay taxes upon?
The amount they gave for the house that I'm in is 10 times as much as what I’m paying now, and the idea was to get lower on this, not to climb higher. I am having some big doubts, and I don't feel especially safe doing this. I'm too old to make a stupid mistake that's going to put me out of my home. I’ve had to have copies of papers sent to AAG, so I’m slowing the process down that way, because I cannot leave my house right now.
AAG has been fine, but they're doing a job. I know they’ve got to have the answers, and they’ve got to convince me that I need to do this.
