I purchased tutoring services for a refugee teenager who earned a division I college basketball scholarship but her first attempt at the ACT resulted in a score of 12. After almost a year of tutoring and three more test attempts she got her score up to the minimum to accept her full-ride scholarship. We used two tutors, Alex ** and Lu **. Both have experience with ENL learners. Alex did sessions online and Lu worked with her the last weeks in face-to-face tutoring sessions. I was extremely impressed with their communication with me about session times and scheduling, work habits and cultural communication issues with our teenager. I had a contact person at VT that was available regularly and touched base with me about our progress and frustrations. I am a social worker and educator myself and would recommend Varsity Tutors to others.

My son was struggling with his SAT/ACT. Varsity Tutors made a world of difference. I didn't know know them from anywhere! I found them on the internet and it's been a wonderful experience. Our account office Steffen ** was exceptional. When my daughter in college was having difficulty with her computer aided design classes Steffen came to the rescue. It was like an SOS. He matched her with a tutor within 24 hours. So tutoring wasn't just my high schooler but also for my kid in college. Steffen has been a great resource for my college bound son! Steffen went out of his way to make sure everything was okay with the tutoring. He called me severally in Nigeria to follow up on my son and daughter's progress. My son finally got multiple admissions from almost failing her CAD classes. My daughter aced her CAD course. My experience with Steffen is exceptional. I would recommend Varsity Tutors to families that require for tutoring for their kids.

Unfortunately, I met two inexperienced IB tutors, and they don't use organized materials/books to teach. They sometimes are late for the online sessions, and they may cut off your session time with extras without letting you know. When you try to contact some of the staffs, they always pretend not be there and don't answer your phone calls. That's why I am disappointed.

I’m in a PhD program and I had some private tutors from school who I was not so happy with. They weren’t knowledgeable enough so I googled and I found Varsity Tutors. They were the first one I contacted and I have been using them since July or August of last year. I have one tutor so far. Her name is Deborah and I have nothing but great things to say about her. She’s knowledgeable and she has a PhD herself. She takes time to explain to me some of the basic things that I’ve been missing. When it’s not tutoring sessions and I send an email, I get a response immediately which is very much different from my professors. Also, if she doesn’t know something because my field is very specialized, she admits it and we work things out together. She helped me to go through my written prelim which I passed in October and I would’ve not been able to do it without her.

Three weeks ago, I passed my oral prelim which makes me a PhD candidate now. There would have been no way I would’ve been able to do that again without her assistance. I am in the process of finishing my proposal now and I’m working with Deborah very closely on this. I will be using her help in any of the steps, before the prelims, for writing the proposal and even when it comes to my dissertation and defending it. I’m very happy with the program and I’ve signed up for a whole bunch of more hours. I also have some of my cohorts who are going through the same stresses that I am going through to get ready. So, I’ve already given my recommendations to friends and some of the other students that asked me.

We tried to do an online tutoring but that didn’t work for us. Varsity Tutors was recommended by a friend and they have been very receptive. They understood our concerns. We found somebody that came to the house but I didn’t like that person and my daughter wasn’t really learning. Varsity Tutors found us a different tutor and we’ve loved that tutor, and we’ve had that same tutor. They are constantly listening to the parents, to our concerns and what we needed, which I really like. Our experience has been nothing but positive.

Varsity Tutors employ really good tutors and I like that they have different types of tutors because every kid isn’t gonna learn the same. And so, my child has had an excellent experience. Her tutor is friendly. When my daughter veers off and wants to talk about something off-topic, he is able to bring her back to what they are talking about or what they are studying. Varsity Tutors is very proactive to checking with parents to see if their experience is positive and if they wanna tweak or have any concerns or any changes they wanna make. It’s helpful so that if the parent has something and maybe reluctant to let the company know, they have a constant opportunity to tweak or fix anything that needs to be addressed.

We signed up for $500 worth of Spanish tutoring for our 8th grader. The first tutor didn’t show up, turns out she didn’t have a reliable car and decided the drive to our house was too far. Strike one. Varsity Tutors suggested we try the online platform while they identify an alternate tutor for our in person sessions. We set up a time and waited, the tutor was a no show and we were not provided an explanation. Strike Two.

We set up another online session while we waited for an in person tutor. The online learning platform is total junk. Video and audio were choppy. We were disconnected from the tutor several times. Tech support Was unable to stabilize the app which behaved differently as we tried several different computers. Our poor son spent two hours distracted by technical difficulties and learned nothing but patience. Strike three. Maybe they should try better developed conferencing systems and focus on the student instead of making a profit. Apps like Skype, Webex, Facebook, WhatsApp, FaceTime or Zoom seem to work well enough for billions of people. Or maybe find tutors that show up.

We analyzed a few tutoring options and Varsity Tutors was the most flexible and reasonably priced. So, we went with them. Our tutor, Roy, was exceptional and their staff overall was equally exceptional. Initially, they paired us up with a tutor that seemed like he was not gonna be a fit because he said was a social media wizard and that's not what I need to be taught to my son, Travis. I need him to learn the material so was frustrated with that and I immediately called up Varsity Tutors. They rectified it and they gave us Roy. Roy has been perfect and I don't know what my son's score would have been with or without him, but I can tell that Travis' confidence level boosted meaningfully and he's be practicing for two hours every time he’d see Roy. The combined practice plus the hands-on tutoring ended up positively. All in all, the learning experience since obtaining a tutor from Varsity is great and I would recommend them.

I needed somebody that was gonna have college-level tutors for my son and went to Varsity Tutors. My son's tutor now, Jim, has been just phenomenal. Every instance after they have a tutoring session and they do it on the phone, he sends the notes immediately. There was a program that he and my son were working on for computer science last semester and he continued to look at it after him being done with the session. So I just feel as though he’s really on top of things and his way of explaining things is great. My son was doing very well in computer science anyway, but really wanted somebody to just reinforce things. And this guy’s way of teaching is very good.

Varsity Tutors is very good in following up. We had sort of a low, that we didn’t need a tutor for a while. They’re not overly aggressive, but they’re attentive. We had actually purchased a huge block of hours and didn’t need them. They were ready to expire, and then my son wanted to hone in on a couple computer science programs. So, they had let me pay for, sort of, another smaller block, and then gave me access to that other block of hours that would’ve normally expired. They’re very accommodating. I know they’re running a business, but they try to keep everything in line.

I started with Varsity Tutors about a year ago when my older son was struggling in reading, writing and just being able to express what he wanted to write on paper. I tried a couple other tutoring services, but it wasn’t quite as focused as I needed it to be and it wasn’t as individualized. I gave Varsity Tutors a try. The tutor that we got really got to know my child, understood how to drum out and have him think about ideas. And his grade in that class went from a B- to a B+ within a couple months. I continued the tutoring for him over the summer, and I started having my younger son do it in the summer too. Not because they needed it, but just to maintain and keep them in practice. My older son has actually not been doing much tutoring over the last two months. He hasn’t needed it and he is getting an A in English. And I think it has a lot to do with the skills that she taught him a year ago.

What I’ve done is instead of my older son doing the regular tutoring, I’m having my younger one do more regular tutoring. He’s in 6th grade, and he needs some additional help on conjunctions and grammar. She’s working with him so that he has more time working on those things and what he would be able to do in class or homework. But I also have the flexibility of saying, “My younger one doesn’t need much this week, instead help out the older one using this time slot. I want you to review his essay and work with him on formulating ideas.” And it’s been working really well.

I like that it’s one-on-one and it really focuses on the needs of the child. They really tried to understand what the child needs. It’s really a private tutor but the fact that it’s online, and there’s also the option of instant tutoring, is fabulous. Because if it was a real person in my house, I’d have to be there or if it’s a real person, I might have to take my kids somewhere. The kids also love the whole online interaction because they do so much on laptop computers and phones that it really aligns with how they do things today.

The staff at Varsity reaches out to me from time to time asking how things are going or if I need anything else. They’re good at reminding me when I’m running low on hours because that’s something I don’t always have time to check. If I also notice that one of my boys or the other one needs slightly different help depending on what’s going in their English class or if they need help with certain things about reading or even if it’s reviewing a draft of something they’ve written and offering them some suggestions, I just need to send a quick email. And they totally understand, they incorporate it right away into the next session or if they can, they’ll accommodate with a special session. So to me, the flexibility in what they’re covering and how I schedule and when I schedule, that is tremendous. I just had a really great experience with Varsity Tutors. They’re very responsive, they’re working with me, they’re working with the kids as individuals, and that to me speaks volumes.

I wanted to get some help quickly. I read through the website and Varsity Tutors looked like a very reasonable service, so I gave it a try. Their staff was efficient at getting us signed up and they were on the aggressive side to get us hooked in. The first tutor had a very strong accent and his English was hard for my children to understand. He also stepped above their limits, made them feel inferior, and I don't think being a good tutor means making your student feel bad. And then he said that his camera wasn't working and that was weird because my children were supposed to see their tutor. So, it was pretty bad.

The next one we had was a former elementary school teacher named Brittany and she was terrific. She couldn't have been better and she was able to pinpoint what my children needed help with. She was also able specifically help them with certain problems in evaluating the way their questions were phrased. Overall, Varsity's cost was fairly expensive, but it suited our needs just fine.

Varsity Tutors was the first tutoring option we had for my child who's eight years old. I chose them because I could do several different subjects without having to pay a separate amount. The other place I was looking for would only do one subject for the amount of money. My daughter has ADHD and she’s a bit anxious as well. She was having problems with reading and catching up because she didn’t have the proper medication when she started in school, so she fell behind. We got the tutor for that and her reading has become great. She comes home with other school work too and the tutor, Elizabeth, helps her with that but also helps her stay on task. She’s wonderful and so much more patient than I am, even as a mother. She redirects her and gives her proper breaks. Everything’s perfect. My daughter definitely got the confidence that she didn’t have before. I am happy with Varsity.

The Varsity Tutors platform is easy to use and to connect with a tutor for my daughter. We've been using them for close to two years now and it's like a Match.com but for students who need a little help and to connect them with college or graduate students that have an expertise in the subject. We started when my high school daughter needed help with Spanish. We've also used it for Algebra 2, Physics, Chemistry and Calculus. Every tutor that we've been paired with has had a knowledgeable base of the subject, showed up on time and stayed the whole time. And the Varsity Tutor employees touch base with me by phone every month or so to make sure things are going well.

I'm provided with a couple of ways to contact the tutor. I can message them using the Varsity Tutor app, which is easy to use when we need to schedule an appointment or communicate with them. They've also provided me with the tutor's cellphone number, and I've often texted with them and have never had someone not respond on the same day. Varsity Tutors is a great resource for connecting with local tutors that have good knowledge and are good at helping a younger student through the learning process. I would highly recommend them.

We're making way more progress with Varsity Tutors than we were with our previous tutoring option. Before, we were just using a private tutor who was an acquaintance in our neighborhood, and I felt we had reached her extent of expertise and we needed additional help. So I started looking online and found Varsity Tutors. I investigated a little bit, and I got a phone call from them, and their price was reasonable compared to the other competitors.

Our tutor is Dorian and we see her twice a week. She does guided reading, comprehension questions and a lot of work with fluency with my son. My son has jumped about three reading levels since we started. He really likes Dorian, and she has figured out exactly the type of stories that he likes. He likes nonfiction, and every story she picks out, he is just captivated. So even though he doesn't want to do it at first, he is absolutely captivated by the stories. It's what makes it go by really fast. He's usually pretty tired at the end because it's a lot of work for him. But he has noticed a change too at school, and he is really proud of himself.

So, I can go back and rewatch our session, which is super helpful if I’m later doing something and need to go back and try to remember what was said or how we did something. That’s really convenient.

I've used two different tutors. In my Genetics class with my first tutor, it helped me significantly to better understand things that I was trying to self-teach myself. And then, with the tutor that I have used now, he helped me briefly. The Genetics tutor and I would do the online face-to-face platform and it was great. I would email him the worksheets or whatever I was working on that I have questions over so that he had a heads up. And then, we would get on there and he would use the drawing pool and walk me through it. That was a great way to get the point across. I also liked that because we could do a 15-minute increment. So, I didn't have to basically pay for an entire hour of tutoring if I just had two quick questions.

Varsity Tutors' customer service is exceptional. Anytime I call and have a question with my account manager, I'm always answered. If she's not available, someone else will always be available to help. So, I never have to wait around to try to get answers for anything. I also appreciate the fact that if I have not had a session in a while, they will call and follow up with me just to make sure that everything is going okay with my tutor or if I need to find someone else.

My son booked regular sessions with Kathy for both Chem I and Chem II. She was able to explain and work out problems for any concept for which he wanted extra help. She also was familiar with all the labs and helped him prepare for them ahead of time. Kathy could easily teach a college chemistry class. The standardized final exam included material not covered in class so she taught additional concepts to improve his overall score. My son greatly enjoyed his time with her and her tutoring was essential to his top grades in chemistry.

We worked through the computer, but she would draw out everything she was talking about and the processes of everything and help me to visualize it, which was very helpful. My 9 year old daughter experienced severe bullying at her school, because of this, I was forced to homeschool. I am not an educator by trade and tried my best to get her focus off the surrounding elements and more on her studies as she experienced a drastic decline due to the bullying. I reached out to Varsity Tutoring for help. Paid their fees and developed a schedule. Around 24 hours later I received an email from the tutor whom had accepted the block, however he had rescheduled me for hours later. I declined the change and reached out to Varsity Tutors who informed me that I needed to contact the tutor directly. I contacted the tutor who advised me that he already had a client he had been working with previously and could not change their schedule to fit mine. He advised me to contact the 800 number. I did so again and was advised that they would provide me with a different tutor. I waited and nothing.

I began seeking other avenues at this point because time was pertinent for my daughter's educational progress. Christian (manager at VT) advised me not to cancel - that he would award me a free session, but to give him an extra day. I gave him two. I received no callback as to progress or anything. I called VT back and requested a refund in full. I was advised that because Christian was on vacation, I would have to call back because apparently he was the only one authorized to perform a refund. 6 days passed and FINALLY was able to reach Christian who was snotty, but did refund my money. I would not recommend this to anyone. Tutors are supposed to aid the families, not provide more stress.

I studied computers, and Varsity Tutors has helped me with the content as well as through several classes and passing exams. I'm using them this semester as well. They could improve in getting specialized tutors. For my program, I take a lot of specialized classes, and I feel like a lot of the tutors aren’t qualified to teach those classes. Nevertheless, making a good relationship with the tutor, setting up appointments and being proactive about it, and finding the resources that students wanna cover in the appointments ahead of time are the keys to being successful with Varsity Tutors.

I live in Arizona and I needed a tutor for the first month of the scholar year and for the summer for my oldest because she was having problems with the reading and writing. A tutor I used two years ago on a different city looked online and showed me Varsity Tutor's website. One of my kids is in first grade and the other one is in Pre-K. I told my eldest to focus more on the reading and writing, so that’s what they do and also first-grade subjects for the first month including Math. Then, for the little one, it was just the basic stuff from Pre-K like the ABC. He improved a lot because he knows the whole ABC and he didn’t use to know all the letters, so the tutor helped me a lot with that. And he started with all the phonics and the numbers and all the basic Pre-K things that they learn. When they transitioned to this school because the school already began, they weren’t too behind of the other kids, so it was good. I definitely recommend Varsity Tutors.

He gave me practice problems that would be focused on what I struggled with a lot, which was really helpful.

He was also always really available to talk and help me out. He even helped me with some personal statement stuff that I sent to him. I asked him for help on that for grad school and he was wonderful. My manager, Amy, was one of the most amazing people I’ve ever worked with. I had other tutors that I had looked at in the area. I know Huntington, a big tutoring place around here but what engaged me to join Varsity Tutors is the flexibility with the school schedule, and I didn’t have to leave. With everything being online now for most of my classes, I felt like it was a better option all in all to splurge the money on them. The pricing was very good. For the tools that they offer and the convenience of it all it was really worth the money. The first tutor that I was paired with was great. It was the second week of the semester that I looked into them since I’ve been looking at other options. And since we were in the second week of the semester, he kind of did work on like a slower pace. But I was doing a chapter a day with these classes and I really needed to work at more of a fast pace.

Eventually I had to be reassigned to a different tutor, Lois, who was a great fit because Varsity Tutors informed them that I needed to work at a faster pace. She made me feel very individualized, like she didn’t have another life outside of me. But I know she had another job, and she was taking some classes. She really knew her stuff. Any question I asked her, she was on it. She knew exactly what I was talking about. When I started this semester, I wasn’t failing, but I was under passing, like I was at that D mark. She got me all the way up to a B by the end of the semester. So I was really happy with that. The only issue I had was at the beginning when my uncle was trying to make a payment for me and he had a little bit of trouble doing that. But overall they have been very good if I had any issues.

Varsity Tutors was referred by our neighbors and my son’s friend, and I was very impressed with the account management. When I expressed interest, someone contacted me right away and they walked me through the process. I think the online approach makes it easy for everyone, and with that online approach, timing can be very flexible. I also thought that the rates are affordable for what you get.

My high-school son took training with Varsity Tutors in preparation for taking the SATs, and it was him who mostly interacted with the tutor. Through feedback from my son, I thought Varsity Tutors did a good job of understanding what his gaps were and focusing on those gaps, walking through practice exams and then eventually preparing him to take the test. His scores went up by about 100 points in the period that he planned this. It was kind of a last-ditch effort to see what we could do to bring the scores up a bit, and it worked. I would suggest that my friends give Varsity Tutors a try.

The first tutor simply never returned our calls or efforts to sign up. The second tutor responded to our efforts for appointments, but was chronically late [sometimes by as much as 20 minutes] and would only let us know last minute by email, if at all, which made it impossible to reschedule. On two occasions, there were tech glitches and no one ever returned our calls to try and reschedule. At one point, the tutor just never showed up and didn't bother to contact us. We continued to have more problems with the next tutors assigned to us. I will never use this company again, despite the free hours they gave us. I just want my money back.

We had done some ad hoc in-person stuff but Varsity Tutors has higher quality. I went with them and the tutors whom I’ve used for the kids have been exceptional. They're more up-to-date. They already knew everything. It was better for the kids. However, I had one bad tutor with Varsity Tutors, but it was my fault for picking the wrong person. My daughter was already skeptical about using online, and then we just didn’t use it. Still, we reselected somebody later, and this person has been perfect.

Our son went through tutoring first, and he had a guy who was phenomenal. In fact, my son was in high school, and he refused to take AP Calculus. But then, the school didn’t offer regular Calculus. Because he was gonna go to OMNIS the next year, he signed up for Business Calculus 1 then did it online. I got him a tutor and he made 100 in the class. I also tried to get my daughter to use that person because he’s so good. She needs Math and Science help, and that’s what he is good at. And that’s one thing I like about the Varsity Tutors. They got so many tutors and that you can match the personality. So now my daughter got this girl who’s in Tennessee. She loved her and she refused to do online tutoring. I would absolutely recommend Varsity Tutors.

I typed into Google about Math tutors near me and Varsity Tutors popped up to the Wentzville area. I looked at it, and it said there is an office in St. Louis. All their reviews seemed good, and everything seemed legitimate about it. Everyone who I talked to at Varsity Tutors was awesome. I also had a decent experience every time I called them. They were very helpful, especially the initial person I talked to out in the St. Louis office. His name is Rob and he was really fantastic. He understood what I was trying to do and what I needed to get through so I can keep on pursuing my degree and get past the Math class.

My program was kind of interesting and they were able to work with that. It was like an accelerated program for working adults. The main one was statistics, and then quantitative management. And then, the other one was like a research design, but that was basically just linked to statistics. Varsity Tutors helped me improve in statistics. It was for three math courses that were roped in one night a week with the same teacher, but it was worth nine credits. I had never taken the statistics, and haven't taken a math course in quite some time, so I was extremely bad at it. I wasn't confident at all in my ability to pass it. I was also hesitant with the online format. But Varsity Tutors helped me understand with my notes, what was being taught, helped reinforce that and helped me along the way.

Varsity Tutors explained it to me when I first called that I would pay a little bit upfront depending on what I wanted to do, and how many hours I needed. It was a bit of an investment that ended up being worth it, because I did well in the class, and the tutors are high quality. The main tutor that I had was very knowledgeable and knew exactly what the course interior was going and what's going on. If anyone needs a tutor, I would definitely send Varsity Tutors their way, if they had the means to go with it.

She tries new and different things in order to keep my daughter engaged and she's doing well. Initially when the tutor spoke in French to her, she would answer it in English or single words in French. But now, she will answer whole sentences in French or at least maybe try to do French. She might mix up some words which doesn’t work but she's much more responsive in the language now.

I need to review her lessons more with her when the tutor isn't around and I haven't been able to do that. But even with that, she's been retaining it really well. Going with Varsity Tutors has been a good experience for my daughter although I think it depends individually on the tutor that was assigned and how they would do with that particular tutor. She was really open if I needed to move things around. She emailed me and would keep in touch with me to help me prepare for whatever was next, or I'd let her know when I needed to review first. She was really great with that.

She helped me in the way that I needed to be helped. She went with my learning style and did what I wanted to focus on, and helped me in the areas that I needed help with. I needed help with the GRE on the quantitative section, and a little bit on the verbal. She helped me with testing strategies too, which was a big deal, with time management and things I struggled with. I had taken a GRE once before I started tutoring because I needed to raise my score. And so, I did the tutoring to get me ready to take the GRE again and the second time I took it, I got the scores that I needed to get into graduate school.

Using Varsity Tutors was one of the best investments we made for my children to have confidence and get their smiles back. With them performing so well on their tests is truly a testimonial that this is working. My 9th grade daughter was looking to find a Biology tutor. That was an immediate need, and so I didn't have a lot of time to find a referral or look at other sites. Varsity just popped up on a Facebook page. We set up everything in the system and my daughter was paired off to one person but that didn't work out. Then, she got Melody and that was terrific. My daughter just got her Biology final test yesterday and she got a 97 on the free response questions. It was the highest grade in all of the four Biology classes. The next highest grade was an 88. Nobody in her class got an A, and for her to get a 97, even the professor commended her.

She also used it for English. She had an annotation that she had to do on another project. Things didn't work well with the first person that responded but we weren't charged. She then got hooked up with the second person through Instant Tutoring, and she also was excellent. My daughter got some of the highest grades on her work. It was interesting because this tutor is an 8th grade teacher and she met the person who wrote the book that is being used in my daughter's English class. Our experience with her, as well as with Melody, made us consider the service for my son who is in elementary school.

My daughter was able to have the tutoring on a video conference. They record the sessions, so she could go back and have that information if she missed something. Then, in the middle, if there's a question or she needs something, she could also contact the tutor. Using Varsity has boosted my children’s confidence and it met us with our schedule and travelling because when you're having tutors come to your house or going to a location, it becomes very difficult. I would recommend Varsity Tutors.

Original: I wanted to leave a good review because our tutor was great! My son really liked her. Unfortunately, when we signed the contract I was told that any unused hours would be refunded to me because we were very close to the SAT date. I would have been okay with using all the hours but with two holidays during the tutoring period, it wasn't possible. That wasn't even decided by me, the tutor scheduled the sessions and we just approved. We were even surprised when she said it was her last session 3 days before the test. When I requested a refund on our 6 remaining hours, I was told I could not but I could use the credit towards another service which we do not need. Very disappointed. I feel like I was tricked. Never again.

I'm very satisfied with Varsity Tutors. I had a different tutoring before but that wasn’t near as good as Varsity. With my prior one, I wasn’t getting what I actually needed because I only had one tutor so I wasn't getting enough out of it. With Varsity, I'm able to have interactions with the tutors to show me exactly where I'm going wrong at and it's more at a personal level. My instructors showed me how to go in and look at and work on a problem, whichever it was. At first I thought that I couldn't do it, but once they showed me how or some of the things that I needed to do, that made me think for myself. I had Jenna and she was very good.

I had Economics with Jenna, and it was about Statistics. Before I went to Varsity, I thought I could not do it and I was about to give up. But whenever I got with Jenna, she was like, "Uh-uh. We're not going there. You're gonna have more confidence than that." I'm not a good person with Math but once she showed me which way to go, I was gone. When I went to the first class with her, I made a B but after the second one, I was so used to it I made an A. I did very well with it. You're as good as you wanna be, and she just let me. That put a lot of confidence in me. The same thing happened with the Principle of Accounting class that I have now where I thought I was not gonna be able to do it. The more I looked at it, the worse it got for me. They said "It's not as bad as you think. You just gotta put your mind to it", and I got it. I've had some very good experiences with Varsity Tutors and I would recommend them highly.

My objective was for my son not to flunk this particular class and that he's gonna graduate high school. He can't get lower than a C either because it's gonna impact his scholarship. Varsity Tutors had an online component which is necessary for my son’s schedule and they were extremely highly-rated. My son has a lot of time commitments, so we needed to make sure we could have something available. The tutor that we're using at Varsity Tutors is fantastic. I've had interactions with him because we have to schedule, we communicate on certain issues, plus I hear him. I make my son take the tutoring session in front of me so I hear their entire interactions. His ability to teach is phenomenal. The level that he is taking my son to is just a lot more than we expected. It's also very cost effective. It doesn’t involve my son driving or somebody coming over here. They're interacting visually, so it's great.

My son obviously needs some guided time. And so, the best way that my son is learning is through interactive discussion, talking, saying things. So, being in a lecture-based scenario where my son doesn’t have an opportunity to talk, interact and practice isn’t necessarily getting the information into my son in the best way. And so, my son is going through the homework, but he just needs more. And his tutor is able to provide that and he doesn’t provide my son the answers. He just provide him ways to think about the problem and it's really outstanding. My son was absolutely flunking this class and he has an A now. It's a really amazing improvement,

My daughter had the after-school program and they did other things. I thought the program was for her to help her with what she was lacking in school, but it actually wasn’t. It was just something extra for her, and she wasn’t getting the attention that she needed, so I went with Varsity Tutors. Everything is going great with them and the rep there has been doing a great job with my daughter. There has been a lot of improvement and a lot of feedback that she has given me, and I appreciate the time that she is spending with my daughter with certain subjects that she is having trouble with. My daughter is improving her grades in school and it is showing in her work. I would definitely recommend Varsity Tutors.

Two years ago, we started with Varsity for my oldest son and then my middle child used them for her SAT prep work and some other studies. And for about four weeks now, we're using them for my 8th grader, Celia, primarily covering Algebra. Compared to the previous tutoring that we had, Varsity is 100% better. It's one-on-one and my daughter is able to ask questions if she doesn’t understand something. She also feels comfortable that even if she doesn’t understand it after asking once, she can ask again as many times as she needs to, which I really appreciate. She doesn’t feel like she's being deemed stupid because she doesn’t understand something.

We really like John, our tutor, and my daughter is doing well with him. It's important that you're comfortable with the tutor that they select for you. You must be very descriptive about what you're looking for in a tutor that you feel would best match your child. We've had tutors that don’t match and sometimes aren't good communicators. So, if I feel that the tutor needed communication that was important then I would have to express that to Varsity Tutors. And I feel like if am dissatisfied with something and I call, it would be taken care of immediately. Originally, we were assigned a different tutor who never got back to me, and once I let Varsity know that, it took three days before I heard back from them. I had to reach out again to ask where things were because we felt an urgency to get my daughter started as soon as possible with the educational part of it so she wasn’t getting further behind. Still, we've had a really good experience with them.

I had a few tutors with Varsity Tutors but Kate was very consistent. She offered a lot of help, so we stuck with her for so long. She was helping my child with his English and his writing, and he made honor roll. So, she really got deep with him. If he did something that wasn't right, or he said something that was wrong, she broke it down for him so that he could understand it in a different way. When he got to that specific subject, he could channel it the correct way. She was hands-on and he misses Kate. His reading has improved and even the way he speaks. If he said something that was wrong, he would correct himself and he has been doing that a lot. Varsity Tutors should keep doing what they’re doing. They are expensive but my child had a great learning experience.

I researched and spent some time online and I found Varsity. I got as much information as I could and I was satisfied with my initial research that Varsity would be helpful. Then, I spoke to them and one thing led to another. I worked on the FINRA Securities 79 exam Investment Banking with my tutor and we meticulously covered just about everything there was to learn, top to bottom - videos, study pages, explanations. They were all an hour and a half sessions so it was a combination of really going through every aspect of it, discussing it, and giving me assignments. It was a really on mark and very comprehensive approach.

My tutor and I really developed a phenomenal friendship. I said to him that he was as much a partner in my studying as just a tutor. He was very efficient, didn't waste my time, didn't waste his time, very businesslike, and very supportive and reinforcing. I took my exam twice. I did not pass the first time. I made a lot of progress studying with him. We kept going and he knew exactly the emotional support I needed and the academic. He knew his material inside and out and he was a great partner. I really enjoyed my experience with Varsity Tutors. When I was able to take a step back, I thought it was a lot of pressure for me because I have a family and I work. This wasn't the only thing on my plate, which it is for a lot of people. But getting beyond that, I realized I really had a great time learning the subject better.

I'm a student of Engineering and my Math is very important to my GPA. I searched on Google and Varsity Tutors was the first option on the list. I searched reviews, got an overall feel for what they might be offering and then I went from there. In class, the teacher teaches as fast as he can and if somebody asks a question, that’s fine. If not, then he's talking out loud as he does it. With my tutor James, he lets me say what I think needs to happen next, and if not, he corrects me quickly so I don’t form any bad habit. We worked through things together that way.

With the really hard ones sometimes, he would jump ahead of me a bit and then we'd do a play-by-play which doesn’t seem forced. James is spot-on and he helped me tremendously. Some of the stuff is easier than the others and I can actually grasp it, but without him on the other stuff, I don’t know what would have happened. So, I needed that help. To not have any experience was tough and he has made it possible. Varsity Tutors is worth it.

Varsity Tutors has been wonderful. With them, I have a more convenient schedule and their price is less compared to my child's previous tutors. The guy we have at Varsity Tutors has also been great. We were able to choose the type of personality of our tutor and we wanted a guy who was sort of funny, which is what all boys want. Plus, my son would not respond well to a very strict woman. I am a woman and a teacher myself and I know how he would respond.

And if we had to make some adjustments, Varsity Tutors made the adjustments. The office staff is very thorough about calling periodically to make sure that we’re scheduling things or not scheduling things or if there's a problem. So the communication is great. The management office has been very attentive as well to our needs as far as follow up calls because we'd study for a series of tests or over the summer then they'd call again, ask how we were doing, and if we wanna schedule more. I really appreciate that.

Also, Varsity Tutors really helped my son with some test strategies and the fact that everything is all on the computer, which is what kids want now, is a great thing. My son could even write his answers on the computer. I've also recommended Varsity Tutors several times. I tell others that I enjoy the fact that I can get a block and the larger block I get, the more discount I get. And that with Varsity, you have the ability to choose the type of tutor you want and what they're well-versed in. You get to choose if they're male or female and what their schedules are.

Varsity Tutors is very active in sending information if I still need it so that one doesn’t remove from my mind that that's the only company I need. It was up to the expectation. With Peter, they wanted to match the need of my daughter and they are focused on the tutorial in the Math area.

My daughter and Peter click. Peter taught her the strategy on how to take the SAT. She took it last Saturday and, when she came out, I asked her if Peter's tutorial helped and she said yes. She was happy with that and I told her maybe she can still use Peter to tutor her with her AP Math so that her grade will go higher. I always recommend Varsity Tutors. His tutor was fantastic. She regularly worked with my son. Once or twice a week, they had an appointment and she helped him with his homework. She worked with him on the language itself, and she had the same workbook that they used in class so she was able to be consistent with what he was experiencing in his classroom. She was also very concerned that he understood everything and she made it fun for him. My son enjoyed it. Unfortunately, my son is in a new school and they don’t have Mandarin, so he's not continuing that. But given the opportunity, he'd like to continue it.

She did two hours of tutoring each day for six days leading up to the test. She felt more confident, but was devastated when her scores came back. Her tutor was very nice, and seemed to know what he was doing, but my daughter was his first one he has ever tutored through Varsity Tutors.

We didn’t know this till towards the end of her sessions. We spoke in depth with Varsity Tutors before we signed up, and they knew her goals. I really wish they would have paired her up with a tutor who had experience. Again... if I would have known I would have asked for a new tutor... which is the only guarantee they offer. I really feel like we wasted a lot of money. If you need tutoring just for homework, then VT would probably work. If you are looking for SAT or ACT tutoring then find a place that guarantees an increase in scores.

I was online looking for tutors and Varsity Tutors looked good. I called them and I was impressed with the people who answered the phone. You could tell they were educated, and I just got a good feel from them. I explained to them my situation, and then over the course of two weeks, they were trying to find a match ‘cause what we were looking was for my son with special needs. He has Asperger’s, as well as OCD and ADHD. He wanted to learn to code, but he didn’t know what kind of coding. Varsity Tutors stayed in close contact and let me know that they were working on it. And then, when they found a match, they sent me her profile for me to approve or not.

I approved of her and she was just amazing. She walked my son through several different languages of coding. He learned the basics. We stopped because he's learned enough to be working on it on his own. More than that, she learned how to deal with him on her own, she was so patient. And after about four sessions, he was great with her, didn’t need a therapist or anything. She was able to cater to, not only his needs but the way he learned. He's very intelligent, but he learned visually. Overall, Varsity Tutor's people are not only highly educated but very smart. They're highly selective on who they hire as well. I highly recommend them.

My daughter spent considerable time working with the tutor (who rescheduled on her at least twice). Outside of tutoring time, my daughter studied and practiced diligently. I asked about 3 subject areas for the instant tutoring and they claimed they were all available for instant tutoring. I signed up, it turns out that not only were the subjects not available for instant tutoring, they did not have any tutors for those areas. They then claimed they would get someone for one of the subjects. After 10 days of various promises I gave up and requested a refund. This turned out to be a brutal affair. Each time I requested a refund they would come back with 'let me tell you about other options.' Although they have a 30 day refund policy, I am not holding my breath.

I’m a single mom and I look at raising my son differently than a mother who has a father at home who teaches math. Varsity Tutors was referred by my nephew. He used multiple tutors and said that Varsity was neat. It also goes with my lifestyle and the needs, so I went for it. So far, my son has been going one-on-one with his ESL teacher who is teaching math, too.

Varsity Tutors is pricey and I wish they cost a little bit less. That would be helpful but I know that their service comes with a price. Despite that, I like that they’re very open. There’s no material that goes for every kid and with Varsity Tutors, the teacher is going by my son. Instead of me pushing my son for the classes earlier, now he waits for her. So even though I cannot easily afford their service, I’ll continue longer. Either you spend 30 or 60, but if it is being used well, you don’t mind spending it. That’s how I look at it and it seems right. Being a typical mom, I keep throwing ideas at my son's teacher and she is always open to me.

At first I only wanted to try out Varsity Tutors. But after working for a while with them, I liked them. Sometimes in summer, my son would all of a sudden want to play outside more. Fortunately, whenever his teacher could, she could work with him on those hours. And whenever there is a math or science test, because I’m paying a lot, I make sure that along with the whole subject, she’s helping him with the critical thinking. So I ask her if she could suggest anything, what we should do with Akhil or if she could Google about a kind of test, and she would come back with me with the links to try or books that'd be good for his age.

One time, I asked her if she could give him a good and creative homework. And she thought ahead and told me that Akhil came up with a small story and it has A to Z alphabets in it. I liked that. So my son was thinking and writing something. Then one day, she said something about this book that everybody said to write about. She told my son not to worry about it. She told him to just write to her about the author and the content. She makes sure he gets the interest in what she’s doing with him. And he likes her, so that is working well. If at all I cancel one of his classes, my son gets mad at me.

Other than that, I lost my job for a while and we changed the session for only one class per week. So there hasn't been much advancement or change with my son but I don’t blame his teacher for that. Still, I see that my son has more potential. There was change when he was doing twice a week but there is a bump in his thinking and his spoken English. Still, I always recommend Varsity Tutors and I tell others that the best part about going with them is, you get your money's value and they're flexible. Sometimes, if you don’t go to the class, you lose the money. But with the Varsity, you can cancel ahead of the time and adjust something. You can go back and see that moved. So I tell them that instead of you spending $30 and you don’t enjoy the fruit of it, you should rather spend 60 with Varsity.

Over the last 6 months I have dealt with at least 8 different tutors from Varsity. At first everything was great, my son (17) worked with a tutor he liked for about 1 1/2 months to review for the US History AP. Suddenly 10 days before the exam, the tutor had a "personal" issue and he could no longer work for Varsity. Fine, that does happen, and I felt lucky that Varsity would quickly draw on their thousands of tutors to find someone new. The next guy spoke English with such a thick accent, he was impossible to follow. Basically the test was over before they could locate a suitable replacement. Later in the summer I asked Varsity to locate a tutor to work with my son on his college essays and they introduced us to Anna. She was a good match for the task except that very quickly her availability (after about one week) diminished as she was starting another job.

So my son got a start on his essays and then we had to beg her to find time to finish. It wastes time and my money every time my child has to start over with a new tutor and they have to get up to speed on what the previous tutor has done. This experience matches to the one my daughter had with tutors from Varsity in some respects but she had some very poor tutors in addition to the chronic revolving door issue. I gave Varsity a long lead time of at least 7 weeks to locate a tutor for my daughter to prepare over the summer to take the SSAT. I interviewed the tutor Zach who we were assigned in late June and he did talk a good game about his approach and qualifications. The first session, Zach did testing and evaluating so there was very little interaction but I was assured that would be coming. He also left the session 20 minutes early because he said he would need the time to grade my daughter's test and make a plan.

After 3 more sessions which he finished 10 minutes early each time although we were charged the full amount and where I was in the vicinity but trying to give my daughter the space to concentrate, I suspected that not much teaching was happening. I decided to watch the video supplied by Varsity of the session. I think Zach was actually working another job at the same time. There was so little interaction. I was shocked to see that 20 minutes went by where not a single word was exchanged. There was virtually no instruction whatsoever. I immediately phoned Varsity and they were very sympathetic and agreed to find me a new tutor. A week went by and a new girl contacted me, we set a time to work and then right before the appointment, she let me know she would only be working for Varsity for 2 weeks and maybe I didn't want my daughter to have to start all over again, again.

So next another tutor, John, who turns out to be very qualified and works with my daughter for about 6 weeks. In September, again suddenly our sessions are declined and I learn that John too has left the company. I am very disappointed but they agree to locate another tutor. This time they find a tutor who is a phd in Physics. I contact him by message in the app to see if we can discuss his approach and qualifications at which point he replies curtly to look at his Varsity homepage and that he passed the test to tutor for the SSAT. That was it for me! I was looking for an experienced SSAT tutor and while it is not rocket science, I don't believe it is something any smart person can do.

At this point I had enough and asked for a refund of my remaining tutoring hours, over 9 hours. I was told over the phone that someone would be looking it to it. About a week later I got an email that said they were looking into it. 3 weeks went by with no contact so I phoned again and was told I would not be able to get a refund as the time had expired. I bought the hours with the assumption my daughter would be able to work with John. I did not realize their business plan is just to have you changing tutors every 6-7 sessions.

I was told that a manager would call me to discuss my situation and I did receive a call within 48 hours. I was told to call and leave a time when I could be reached during the week. I left her a message with a 3 hour window and got no call. I left another message with a new window and asking to be sent an email with the time she would be available to call me if she could not call me during that new 3 hour window. I am so disappointed and frustrated. Varsity must treat their tutors terribly or there wouldn't be such great turnover.

There were a couple different tutoring companies in our area but Varsity Tutors was better for us because we could schedule it whenever my daughter needed it, which was helpful. As far as scheduling when no one had to come to our home, she didn't have to go anywhere so the convenience of being able to be at home was such a huge benefit. We also get a lot of teachers and college students working in the field that seem to know what they're talking about and have a good perspective on things.

Matthew was my daughter's Chemistry tutor and he was easy to understand. He explained everything thoroughly and made it a lot easier for her. I loved that if she missed a day, she would text me from school, "Can I get a session with Matthew tonight?" She went from getting C's to A's, and it eliminated all of the stress and anxiety she had with homework and testing. It definitely gave her a lot more confidence too. Varsity Tutors is worth every penny and I would highly recommend it.

It says to contact the tutor. The tutor does not contact you, the company does and they tell you the tutor you selected is not available and they assign the tutor.

Not realizing this was the same company I attempted to do business with before, I reached out to a tutor for my son's DAT exam and then went through the same circle as mentioned above. That is when I realized this is the same company and they advertise the perfect tutors to connect with you then when you call the tutor is not available and they will select the tutor for you. It is a shame they are doing this as time is valuable and they wasted my time.

I had a very positive learning experience, and the learning was easy and very well facilitated by my tutor. He was great and he helped me understand the subject. He went through an extra mile and sent me information that he had put together. I already finished my course and while I don’t need any more tutoring at this point, I will definitely personally recommend the Varsity Tutors. I already recommended them to my daughter who may be contacting them in the near future.

Our experience with Varsity Tutors was very good. I found them online and when I talked to them, it was a good fit for what my daughter and I needed. We had a different tutoring option prior to Varsity and it was like night and day. Everybody at Varsity was working really hard with our last-minute schedule changes because it was my daughter's senior year. Her teacher did a great job and was patient with her when she did not understand. There was a bit of an interpersonal relationship because he helped my daughter through a struggle. Moreover, he was very understanding in the material and a lot of times, he was better than her teacher at some things.

She was struggling and was not learning the material at all but the Varsity teacher was super knowledgeable. He made her feel comfortable in the environment that we were in and it completely changed the way that she learned. She went to a new standpoint where she could see everything clearly and was starting to comprehend the material. My daughter adores him. He was instrumental for her passing the course.

This is an online service, why is there no indication of the currency you are paying at any time? For this price, I expected a more seamless process and to have access to experienced accountants. The staff is very friendly and proactive, it seems they do their best to help but I felt compelled to defend myself in my decision to close my account.

There was a miscommunication and my initial reason for opening the account was not met in time. I was under the impression there were CPAs available in my area to help--as was indicated on the website I subscribed to -- I didn't know there was not a single one available. I was not prepared to pay over 100 CAD for one session with an accounting graduate/student with no accounting experience (even when highly rated) when I can get that for free at my college. The US follows GAAP whereas I need assistance with IFRS and ASPE. I don't know if accounting students in the US are taught principles-based accounting or how in-depth they learn this method and was not willing to find out over time with my tutor while paying that much.

I received calls at inconvenient times with no prior notice and wasn't asked when the best time to contact me was. Also, I was a little weary during the initial transaction because I thought I was signing up for another tutoring service of another name then received a call from an unfamiliar local number. At first, I thought it was a scam. The application needs some improvement, I didn't know how to use it properly and was left pressing buttons to see what they do, after a while it's manageable. Some useful things could be added and some functions rearranged. I'm glad there is a guarantee in place as to customer satisfaction, I was offered solutions which was nice up until the very end, but none that I would opt for given my short time-frame and the time it was taking to get a meeting with the assigned tutor. Needs work but nice concept.

Around two years back, Varsity Tutors had some promotion going on and I thought to try it. I like their flexibility and how they were able to arrange the tutors in a short time period because a lot of times, the kids don't realize and don't plan well ahead of time. By the time they want to get a tutor, it's not always possible to find one really quickly. My son went with a lot of tutors 'cause he did for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, although he liked a few tutors more than others. I had some balance in the account and I told my niece if she would like to try one session, and she did the SAT Biology. Overall, it was a good experience. My son and my niece benefited a lot from it, and it was what we expected.

We had them for a month for 10 hours for my son's SAT and his SAT score improved a lot. They were very helpful. The tutor knows what the students need to give the right advice and help him to improve the skill of how to take the test and analyze everything he needs. The tutor assigned some practice for my son and he did all the practice. They walked through all the questions he answered and if he did not get the correct answer, they would analyze what was the reason for the wrong answers. A lot of times when we try to set up the schedule, the requests were short notice but the tutor responded very well and fast.

My daughter worked with a tutor for a month or so, and one of their meeting dates, he did not show up. we called the company, and they switched her tutor, however, on her second session with the new tutor, he did not show up either. I called the company to complain; I was very upset and this was the second time that my daughter was stood up by one of the tutors.

The person with who I spoke on the phone told me that I should try reaching out to the tutor, this upset me further; my daughter had stayed in the chatroom for 30 mins waiting for the tutor, and they still expected me to contact the tutor when it is their company? They have not contacted me since that day, nor have they offered another tutor for my daughter, and the tutor that my daughter was working with has not contacted her apologizing or asking about another meeting. I am very upset and I did not expect this type of unprofessionalism. I called the company asking for a refund for the 12 hours that my daughter has remaining and I was told to leave a voicemail, and I have yet to hear back from the company. All they care about is money, do not expect any of your issues to be solved by the company. Look for another tutoring service if you expect professionalism.

I looked around at some different vendors but did not do any real use of offerings other than what the school offered like internal tours. Varsity Tutors had really good practices of figuring out the student and then adopting a learning program for that particular student. It was very specific to have that person run. Their tutor would review my daughter's student needs, go over the courses that my daughter needed help with, then basically getting back with them over what the program might look like in terms if they have online materials coupled with a real person they can interact with.

We’ve done the online option where she dealt with tutors online then we’ve done in person option where the tutors come to our home and work with her. It really helped improve her skills and also improved her ability to believe that she could get the work done ‘cause they told her new ways to think about problems and her work so we got a markedly increase in her performance academically. When there were questions, she could go and send it online via the portal. It would get responded to along with suggestions. They were very hands-on whether it was physically instructing her or through the online portal.

My daughter is shy in classes, but Varsity Tutors was able to develop a good relationship both online and in person. She would come prepared for learning and they would become prepared to instruct and so that worked out pretty well. My daughter got an A in math, so it was worth the investment. People should definitely consider Varsity Tutors as a learning option for their child.

My daughters were taking piano lessons at a teacher's house, and last fall my wife was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo chemotherapy. Since she was the one who would drive them to their lessons, I wanted to find a teacher who would come to the house to provide lessons and found Varsity Tutors. They said they would be able to fulfill this request and find a teacher, so I paid $500 for lessons. A week goes by, and they couldn't find anyone. Another week goes by, still unsuccessful. Another two weeks go by. They offered video, virtual lessons.

Having had piano lessons myself, I know this is not the ideal way to learn to play the piano. One needs to have a teacher sitting next to you. Here we are a year later, my kids are no longer interested in the piano and Varsity Tutors still were unable to provide me what I wanted. When asked for a refund, they said that the refund window was 30 days and we are beyond that window. They said they have other tutoring services that I could use, but all I wanted was the piano lessons. There was no follow up as the 30 day window approached with an apology or offer for refund since they were unable to provide what I wanted.

Varsity Tutors has been really helpful and they're responsive. They follow up too. They have tutors that can come to our home. They got to us when it was a critical time. We needed them right away, and they identified Toby and made the introduction quickly. All of my interactions with them had been really good. We had Toby all last year and we’re set up for a session this school year. My son needed him for Physics last year and a little bit for Math this year. He's awesome and he had been really helpful to my son. He had given him practical information, explained the concepts in a way that my son could understand it, and had shown him how it was applicable in real life. My son's grade went up significantly in Physics. He went from a D to B.

It was a really good option. They also have online services, so a tutor can work with your child online. I was really skeptical about it, but the ones that my son had with the tutor online was really positive. It was cool that they could work on problems together, because there was a virtual board, and then they could share documents. So that was a really great interface.

Varsity Tutors has really good reviews. On their website, it’s showing that very qualified people are their tutors. So it seemed like a good option for my LSAT. Michael was my tutor and we would email or chat to figure out the time we wanted to meet, then we would meet for two hours. We met five times over about two weeks. He identified some of the weaknesses I had, gave me practice problems, and helped me through how I should be thinking about certain things. He also gave me some tricks that I didn’t know about that helped.

I already took my LSAT and it actually didn’t go that well. When I was practicing before Michael, I was around 155-ish. With Michael, I started scoring around 158-ish. And then my LSAT, I got a 162. But I think it was first-timer jitters and little differences. Also, there’s an experimental section on the LSAT. I thought one section was the experimental section, but it wasn’t. So, all those just tripped me up. But I’m planning to take it again. But the experience I got was honestly invaluable and it was very helpful for me, in general. The process was, honestly, very smooth, and I had no trouble with Varsity Tutors at all. If you need tutoring, that’s a very good place to go. It is pricier, but it’s a really good service.

They are convenient. Tim was so helpful and he moved to get what we needed in time. I have a couple of tutors teaching different kinds of subjects. There were good ones, and there were weird ones, but they helped my kid, Matthew. There was one guy that was teaching him world science and it had to do with history. He was weird but he helped Matthew somehow.

When I called Varsity Tutor, it was one day before his test. The Spanish tutor that I asked via the internet, because we didn't have time to schedule an appointment, was also very helpful. She went through the points, asked Matthew to write an essay and give it to her. She corrected the essay, and he saw his mistakes. That was what could be done at the time, and she did very well on that. Matthew is a very smart kid. When he had problems, it was because he missed one class and he could not follow up with the rest. The tutors would put him updated to the point where the class was, and he could catch up. I'm very satisfied with Varsity Tutors, and every time that I need a tutor, I will look for them. I'm a loyal client and I will totally recommend them. It's very useful and it is a good company.

Varsity Tutors was the first one that came up in my search and I called them on a Saturday. They picked up the phone so I got signed up immediately and it was very straightforward. My children had a couple of different tutor activities. My 21-year-old had French, which was in person to help him get through level 3 French, and then my two younger kids are doing German online as well and one of the kids is doing Reading in person, and they’ve been able to accommodate it all. Initially, I wanted a German tutor that could come to the house, but we haven’t been able to identify anybody in the area and so Varsity Tutors convinced me to try online. I don’t have high hopes for that ‘cause the kids are young but then a year later, we’re still doing it.

The tutor helps my child boost his confidence in reading. That particular child really likes the one-on-one interaction, and somebody dedicated to sit for two hours a week for reading is a big chunk of time for a 10-year-old. The 21-year-old passed French with flying colors. On the German-French, I grew up with a couple languages and tri-lingual and I think that’s a super important skill so I’m passing it on to my children whose goal is for them to continue to have fun with languages and realize that it’s a huge asset. It’s not necessarily about the grades. It was with French as we had to get through it. The same with the reading as the younger one has to improve, which he has.

But most importantly for me, it’s giving the kids additional confidence that they can get things done when they put their minds to it. It’s been a very good experience, great tutors over time, and a very convenient program. I have recommended them. If you're looking for a tutor for your children, give Varsity Tutors a chance, give them a call.

    Original Review: Sept. 28, 2018

When I had my initial call with Varsity, I told them I needed an in-home tutor, Monday through Thursday between the hours of 3:30-5:30 (every week). The salesperson assured me it would be no problem at all to place the tutor. He informed me that the contract is a 12-month commitment and I will be billed $1700 up front, then $1700 in six months. They were able to place the first tutor and she worked out great last year. This summer she informed me she was no longer going to tutor. I reached out to Varsity about two weeks before school started to let them know we needed to start a new search.

Here’s what’s happened since then: Search was published for 7-10 days and they placed a girl. Scheduled my first session with her and she informed me she’s moving back home and can only do online tutoring. My son is not at the age for online tutoring and he needs one on one attention so that wasn’t going to work. I informed Varsity what happened and they said they’d re-list the job. 2 weeks go by with no response or update. I call Varsity again and ask them what’s going on. They made some “adjustments” and said they’d continue the search.

Another week goes by and finally we get paired with Alex. She can only work 1 day a week. I take it because I’m in need of help and one day is better than none. I am now three at least weeks into the school year. I call again and they said they removed my posting because they placed the tutor. I explain that Alex was only placed for Wednesdays. “Ohhhh, ok we will go ahead and place your job again”.

Another week goes by with no word from Varsity. Then I get an email on August 29 from Varsity. I respond to the email telling them I never agreed to online tutoring and to please refund my money if they can’t place the tutor as contract. Zero response. I call a few days later and ask to speak to a manager. I tell her everything that’s happened. She was apologetic and assured me should would look into my case and figure out what is happening. She said there’s 60+ tutors available in my zip code so it makes no sense why the tutor can’t be placed. She said she’d call me back ASAP.

5 days go by with no callback! I call in again and ask to speak to another manager. Get connected with Virginia. At this point in time I’m 6 weeks into the school year with no tutor and Varsity holding over 59 hours credit in my account and blowing me off. Virginia goes over my case and is open to giving me a refund. She says she’ll call me back after she looks into my history. Another week goes by with no call from Virginia! I call her and leave a message. Days go by and she calls me back, telling me she wants to schedule a call on Monday, September 24. I call her back and leave a message confirming Monday is great. Monday comes with no call from Virginia. I call her Tuesday and leave a message. Still no return call. I call her today and leave another message. No response.

DO NOT spend your money with this company! They over promise and under deliver. I am so extremely disappointed and I can’t believe their refusal to refund my money. They could not place my tutor - plain and simple - so I asked for my money back so I can use it to pay another tutor. I think that’s more than fair! Now we are trying to work with our bank to get our money refunded since no one will rectify the issue.

I called Varsity Tutors and asked a lot of questions. Their concept made a lot of sense so I took the leap and went ahead with them. I have had interactions with my son's tutor by email. Her name was Anna and she always gave really good, detailed notes. My son’s a senior in high school and he takes school seriously, so Anna gave me reports on what things he did well in and the things he needs to improve in. She really taught him to understand how the ACT test is mapped out, how to study for it, and how to pace himself better on those tests. It made him a better test taker overall. My son said it was a great experience, and he’s a very opinionated kid. If he doesn’t like something, he’s gonna tell, but he had nothing but praise for Anna.

Before my son got with Varsity Tutors, his overall test score was 27. In order for him to get some potential scholarship opportunities, we wanna at least get 30. His weaknesses were English and Reading, so he did the tutoring with Anna for those two subjects. With the last test he took, he got a 32 in English and then a 31 in Reading. His overall score went from 27 to 30. I was thrilled with that and my son was very happy to get to that point, too. Varsity Tutors was definitely great for the ACT test.

I'm a single mom who works full-time. I needed to be tutored. Varsity Tutors reached out to me quicker than its competitors and had things in place. They made the liaison seamless and they sent me reminders to go in there and do what I needed to do to get started and select a tutor. When it came to choosing Danielle, it was a no-brainer. Her resume is not ridiculous, so it was wonderful. It was a six-week accelerated advanced Calculus course in the summer. It was six weeks of hell where I got a whole semester of Calculus being crammed in. Then, towards the end at about week four or five, I learned that I was gonna have a major surgery and I had to get the course done.

I was down and had a really intense recovery. I tried to learn the material and get my body to cooperate enough with me, so I can go in and take my exam. Danielle was really flexible in trying to help accommodate me, wait for me, and deal with me with regard to that because there were some times I couldn’t even sit and do the tutoring. There were times I had to stand the whole time and we would be tutoring for two or three-hour sessions. Sitting wasn't an option and that was uncomfortable. She would be really patient if I needed to take a five-minute break and we would come back.

I also handled the finances at my church, which was a big deal, so sometimes, we would tutor for an hour on Sundays, then I would have to take care of business and she would tutor again. We were doing two a day and she would do groundwork, research the class, and dig in and see what was coming. She would be telling me, “Well, this is coming up. So, we need to focus on this.” It was more than just tutoring the actual material because she was really teaching me the material. She was taking the course for me, too, when it got harder because she would figure out what was next.

My personal life was getting in the way, so there were some things that I had to neglect. There was some homework I can't focus on and we were trying to nail with it, and that’s what we did and I got an A. We would calculate, “Well, what do we need to do to do this?” “Yes, this homework is not getting done. We're gonna do the work to learn them.” I took time in hours in having to go through it and we focused on that and drove the study guide so I can do well in the test, and I really did.

It was an incredible experience. It was very expensive, but it was very worth it. Danielle was incredible and I couldn’t imagine how she could be any better. I passed Calculus. I would tell my friends and family to get their credit card and worry about it later. I didn’t just pass, I actually got an A. My professor was highly impressed with me. In sum, I was able to be prepared because Varsity was there. I was able to accomplish the work because I had them to back me up.

She looked forward to her sessions and actually would come home asking me, “ Mom, when am I working with Rahul again?” or “When is my next French session?” When Sophia needed help or had a test she would ask, “Mom, please call Alexandra or (Rahul)… I need help fast!” I mean, when does a kid really look forward to doing algebra? When does a child genuinely laugh, smile and enjoy learning these tougher subjects during sessions that can last up to 1½ hours? But this is how Sophia responded to her online lessons with Varsity Tutors.

As a parent, I love Varsity Tutors and the teachers/tutors they assign because of their flexibility, the quality of the teaching/tutoring they offer my child, the positive attitude of the instructors and outstanding customer service the company offers. I was also impressed with the wide range of tutoring options they are able to provide both, online and with in-person tutoring sessions.

This year I added my other two daughters to the Varsity Tutors’ roster. Melania 11 and Victoria 10 will be getting help with math on an ‘as needed basis;’ and, eventually, Melania will work with Alexandra as soon as she starts French. But our primary objective for this year was to get an online vocal coach for all three girls and to arrange online Clarinet lessons for Melania and Victoria. The girls have been taking piano and violin for several years, but are just now beginning the clarinet. So with full packed schedules across the board, our only option was an online class on Sunday afternoons – and Varsity Tutors delivered!!!!

Varsity Tutors assigned Lauren ** and Paula ** to help with vocal lessons; and, they found an amazing musician, Chris ** to work on the Clarinet every Sunday. In just a few sessions, Paula and Lauren helped all three girls revamp their vocal and breathing techniques, compile an updated repertoire of songs for their upcoming auditions and helped them with vocal presentation/performance. With that, Melania did end up booking a role in Matilda last week scheduled to open at the Walnut Street Theatre during the upcoming holiday season. And as for Clarinet…..well, by the end of the first Clarinet lesson, my youngest was playing ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’. Now that’s amazing! They literally went from learning how to assemble a clarinet to playing the G Scale to playing their first song!

Efficient, Effective, Convenient, Flexible, Positive, Encouraging, Helpful and Worth Every Penny – that’s Varsity Tutors!

Varsity Tutors is very organized and a great organization. They respond quickly and they were the first one that came up that had French. The teacher for the foreign language is excellent. I'm an older adult plus experiencing some difficulties, and he's been helping me do that and making me feel that anybody can learn a language and it's not a bad thing if I'm an adult 'cause I already know a whole lot more. He's patient and he waits for me to respond. He knows that there are a lot of people who have a trepidation learning a new language and so he just reminds that it's not a straight path and there's a lot that you have to do so just take it forward. For anybody who's afraid to study online using all the technology, both Varsity Tutors and my tutor made me feel much more at ease with it. That's a big deal.

Our previous tutor had a limited range of expertise, and we were growing beyond that in terms of course work. Varsity Tutors had a lot more expertise and they were a more affordable option. My daughter loves her tutor. Her Varsity tutor is Ivanna. She's a young adult and she relates a little bit more on a level that they understand in terms of interests. So, she’s relatable for them than our former tutor, who was a school teacher. She enjoys her sessions with Ivanna way more because the environment is a little more relaxed and comfortable.

Ivanna helped my daughter to be a little more successful in Mathematics. We’re not yet through the first semester, so we’re still seeing how things go. But so far, my daughter shows a comfort level with the math that she’s learning more so than she has in the past. So far, we’ve been extremely satisfied with our one-to-one experience. I have recommended Varsity Tutors to other people. They have a pretty wide curriculum and they have people who can do things beyond just mathematics. Overall, I’ve been pretty impressed.

My son really got a lot out of Varsity Tutors. He enjoyed it very much and he learned methods. He was doing some self-study for Chinese and he was at the point where he wanted to start speaking with someone else. So that worked out really well with the tutor at the Varsity. He would go online on the computer and have a FaceTime. The tutor helped him a lot. Right now, he’s enrolled in the 11th grade. He also takes an online high school course with Varsity, which they don’t have at the school he’s at. We are very, very happy with Varsity. We recommend them very highly. My son has met all of our expectations and exceeded some, and he enjoyed it immensely. It was a great experience.

I started searching for another provider and I found Varsity Tutors online. I was very satisfied with their service and the tutor that they provided. And the results were very good.

My son is also very happy with their service and his tutor. Right now, we're in a gap because he's busy with swimming and soccer and things like that, but then we're probably gonna continue with Varsity right after that. The SAT went very well. The objective was obtained. And he wants other things and that's like a result in itself, the fact that you have built trust because the reason why you went to them yielded the results that were promised and now, we wanna go on to more, to other things.

Varsity Tutors looked appealing and the rep I spoke to was very thorough. Varsity seemed like a really good fit. I can find a tutor that works for me, which is really helpful. It is also better having the option to change tutors because if it doesn’t seem right with a tutor I'm working with, I can choose another person, which I ended up doing. There is flexibility for me and for them. The first tutor I had was brilliant, but I could not understand the way he was talking to me. So it's nice to have the power to change my tutor because if I have a tutor come to my house and it isn’t really working, there can be some weird tension if I see the tutor again.

With Varsity Tutors, however, the tutoring being online, there has never been any hard feelings with the tutors. I had Terry and she was the most personable person. She talked about the most boring subject such as the LSAT but she taught the lesson in a way that made it easy for me to sit for two hours. She could tell if I was drifting and we would pick up the pace with something else. She was very on it with me. I have used Varsity Tutors for a year and a half and I've had a really good experience with them the entire time. I definitely recommend Varsity Tutors to anyone looking for a tutor.

My son needed a tutor for his summer school calculus class. When I inquired about their services they were super responsive. The tutor they assigned him asked to take his work papers from his class to review and formulate test problems for him. The tutor then canceled 4 sessions in a row. They assigned him a new tutor right away but could not get the first tutor to return the work papers. Varsity Tutors said they would get them back right away but did not. With his class coming to an end their answer to me was that he was an independent contractor and it wasn't their responsibility.

I called and asked for a manager at least 7 times and was put off each time. Each time I asked for a call back from a manager and NEVER received a return call. What was even more insulting was the fact that they were still retaining that tutor for other students as well as the fact that the tutor returned the work paper via email while my son was taking his final exam. When I called them to voice my dissatisfaction I was told "What more do you want? You got the papers back." Good luck if you have any problems or concerns.

Varsity tutors reached out to me after my review on here and helped me out with my issues. They were very willing to do what they could to make it better. They refunded me my unused hours and also set me up with a in person tutor to cater to my needs! Much more pleased.

    Original Review: Sept. 4, 2018

I purchased a large pack of hours a while back. Every single tutor I used read out of a book and was extremely confused while teaching. Many left in the middle of a session to grab something unneeded for the lesson. Multiple tutors were used trying to find a better and more educated fit. Every tutor used was unsuccessful. We called multiple times explaining our issues and we were met with either a voicemail and no callback or an unreasonable reply. When I called customer service again to explain the issue, I was told not even a partial refund would be allowed for the unused hours, which consequently means my family lost thousands of dollars. I was told the hours couldn't even be renewed unless I bought a package that cost around $800. The women I was on the phone with treated me as if I was at fault. Would not recommend to anyone, all they want is your money.

I communicated with them that the timeframe of the class could take several months and if he didn't end up needing the help, I would get a full refund. He didn't end up needing the tutor and now they are not giving me my refund stating that I am well out of the refund timeframe. I'm not sure why they had me pay upfront knowing that I wasn't sure when the class would start. I am shocked as I had been told this was great company. Not only did they not give me my money back, but they were unhelpful during the process. I was told this was their busiest time of year because school was starting and so they couldn’t help me with my issue. The tutoring may have been good, but if these are their business practices, I’m not sure I want them tutoring my child.

I was in graduate business school and I just got a really good sense more of what I read than who I talked to. I spoke to somebody on a Sunday and it was a knowledgeable person. I'm really impressed because I wasn't determined or really set on, "This will be who I go with." I called from Varsity's website and a young man answered the call and he spoke intelligently about what Varsity can do and I bought right on the spot.

My latest tutor has a Ph.D. in Chemistry and her name is Keturah. She teaches at Trinity University in San Antonio. I had asked Varsity to match me up with somebody that's really knowledgeable. It was primarily in a PowerPoint mode and a PowerPoint software, where I needed to go beyond bullet points and verbiage. I needed somebody that could really navigate websites and navigate either other online documentation, online logos, online descriptions of what I wanted to put in the PowerPoint, and she was able to do that.

What impressed me the most is Keturah very quickly grasped what I was trying to do. I told her overall, “I've gotta present this to a board and I've gotta present this to clients so, it's gonna have to be developed and designed for a very high-level presentation,” and she got that. She very quickly got us back to the point where we needed to be. We didn't start over anywhere. I'm not talking about adding a couple of words and a bullet point. In my judgment, these were some pretty high things with some video and some moving pieces and transition stuff, and I was impressed with that. Varsity did exactly what they said they were gonna do. I didn't idly sit and stand by waiting for them to get to me and they met their own timelines.

The second tutor we cannot understand her spoke English. But we still gave company opportunity try to one more time, unfortunately, the third tutor answer my son question is wrong and try to hide wrong answer.

Now I'm asking the refund for the left 10.30 hour and we already been wasted previous hours. They told us over 30 days and passed the refund time. Is this fair to us? This is not product with 30 days refund policy. This is service. We have a patient and nice to the company. From beginning to now, we gave them a several chances to find a good professional tutor to fit us. Finally, you cannot find, it is your responsibility if you can't find quality tutor, you should give a custom money back no matter what. I felt this company is business cheating. They lost their credibility.

In the past, I have used tutors from different sources. They were private usually. With Varsity Tutors, I appreciate the variety of expertise. I also liked the selection of different subjects you could choose from. We weren't just stuck with paying for one service, and then not necessarily needing all the hours you paid for it. Furthermore, I definitely loved that I could learn and be tutored online because I would usually have to drive an hour to go see my tutor because they lived on the other side of town. The tutors I worked with were great about answering my specific questions. I know sometimes when I’ve seen private tutors in the past, it was difficult explaining exactly the approach I needed them to take to the problem because of how we were taught in class.

The tutors at Varsity did a good job of sticking to what was in my textbook and what was in my notes and following the same kind of approach that I was wanting. So, I didn't necessarily get taught two different things. They were also very patient and communicative. Varsity Tutors is the most convenient tutoring service that I've been offered, but their downside is the cost and the fact that you have to buy so many hours in bulk instead of paying for one session at a time. The minimum amount of hours we had to buy were nine, and I didn't end up using all of that. Overall, I had a good experience with Varsity Tutors. I would definitely recommend it but with provisions.

I needed someone quick and after a search on Google, I found Varsity Tutors. I do coding and I have work that I need to turn in to this camp that I'm doing. So far, I've been working with the same guy. I let him know what I need to work on as well as the issues I'm having with the assignment. We then go through it and whatever concepts come out that seem to be really challenging or need more attention, he'll elaborate on them. He is also really good about coming up with little modules for us to course out and go through. With the sporadic schedule of the assignments and me being busy, it's helpful to have him for a bit of an introduction to some of the concepts because they're not always thoroughly covered in class. I'm using him as a tool to either get ahead or situate myself so that when I get to class, I can understand more of what's happening. And I've made some incremental progress since I worked with him.

A lot of the people in my boot camp class have degrees in what we're doing but I'm super virgin to coding so I really have to hustle to get it together with this class. I wanna do this for work, so I need to know what I'm doing. I'm really trying to get ahead on the assignments and be able to replicate them once I'm in class. And this Varsity tutor really knows his stuff and he tries to prepare ahead of time. So I appreciate that a lot. varsity has a really good service and I would recommend them to students, depending on what they're doing. But for coding, they should definitely use Varsity.

When you're an online student, you're teaching yourself and you are definitely on your own. I was struggling in my Physics class during the summer. I was up one night and I was frustrated. So I decided to google and tried to find a tutor in my area, and I called different ones. When I woke up that morning, someone from Varsity called me. I told her what my dilemma was and she assured me that they could help me. She gave me a pay rate and within 24 hours, they had assigned me a tutor.

Jasper was fantastic. My session was about 90 minutes long and I was very comfortable with him. We interacted via Camcor. We could look at each other and he had a board put up. He would write the problem on the board and break it down so I could see what I was not understanding. It was fantastic because I'm a visual person and I could actually see the problem. Another thing is that the tutors can break a problem down but in order for someone to learn, you've got to know what elements you struggle with. The student has to be able to ask questions. When Jasper and I got together, I would write the problem down and tell him what I was struggling with. Then he would write, say and show me exactly how to attack the problem. It worked out for me. I really understood it because of the way he explained everything and everything came on like a light bulb.

He was very patient, kind and smart. He went out of his way to make sure I understood the concepts. He even gave me his phone number but I never took that for granted. I'm a very good note-taker and whenever I felt like the area was where I was struggling in, I would refer back to my notes. I never had to really call him but once because I was conflicted with a problem and he broke it down to me over the phone. He got me caught up and as a matter of fact, we were so caught up that I was pretty much done before the end of the last class. I came out of that subject with a B. I did well and I understood better. I was very pleased. On top of that, the people at customer service were fantastic. We're living in a society where most of the customer service stink. But Varsity was right there if I needed anything. They were very friendly and I liked that.

If you are considering this service buy the smallest package you can and go from there, do not get sucked into their large packages! If you do not use the hours you will not get your money back unless you cancel within 30 days (which considering it sometimes takes a week or two to schedule your tutor is not enough time at all). I bought the 15 hour package, and used 4 sessions, then found no further use for the service. Tried to get my money back several months later and was told that I was “past the point of receiving monetary compensation” and that I could only use the hours for other tutoring of which I have no use. Also any time a session starts you already used an hour and a half (not 1 hour).

I don't think I made use of the full hour and a half even once but still got credited. Not unreasonable but at 78$/session very pricey. All of the information I received could have been found online for free (Stack Exchange, Yahoo Answers, Google, etc.) and I honestly got more help from office hours and my classmates. Overall, you’re better off finding a local tutor through Craigslist or another local service. It will most likely be significantly cheaper, all compensation will go to the tutor, and you pay per session instead of paying in advance. Or better yet work with other students in the class and go to office hours (the best things in life are free). This company will try to get you sign up for more than you need just to get your money. The tutor wasn't bad, but wasn't incredibly helpful either (at least not 70+$ per session helpful). I basically got sucked into paying over $700 for information that could been found online for free. Don't be like me.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! The tutors they hire are completely unreliable. I purchased 50 hours for my 8 year old son for summer tutoring. The first tutor quit after 4 sessions completely out of the blue. I still have some of her things at my house. She said she had too many students to handle, but sent me email today asking for me to be a reference for a nanny job. The next tutor was great, my 8 year old son really liked her and she promised to continue with him once school started, and now I received a call that she has quit because she is a teacher and school is starting back up.

I am so frustrated and upset! I have used 10 hours of my 50 purchased because of the lapse in between tutors, and weeks they needed off because of this or that. I expected three hours a week for the 11 weeks of summer (some left over if needed during school). I feel like I completely failed my son, he did not get the prep he needed to start third grade. Now I have 40 hrs. left to use and they will not issue a refund! Refunds only in first 30 days. I only saw a tutor three times in the first 30 days. Even though this is no fault of mine or my sons. Pick a company for your child that offers a refund if you're unsatisfied, or only buy 5 hours at a time so you don't get screwed.

And they were quick to readjust the schedule when needed. They were really good and they helped 100%. Her learning experience from Varsity Tutors was perfect. My daughter has had help with Physics and the tutor she's had from Varsity Tutors was wonderful. If we need tutoring this next school year in the same subject, we plan on using him again. My daughter is now more confident in her ability to be able to work with the conception of problems. We've used a different tutoring option before and Varsity Tutors was better in terms of the quality of their tutors. I would recommend Varsity Tutors.

In some of the other online tutors that I researched, the cost was more and with Varsity Tutors, it was less. Also, there were very positive reviews that I read so we chose them. Once we decided that this was the route that we were gonna go, we reached out to them and they gave us their pricing. Then, we picked the package that fit us and they set us up and paired my son with a tutor based on his personality. It was a very smooth process. We knew that we would be having two-hour sessions every week and Alex would send us an appointment reminder. Also, he really worked well with my son. Their personalities meshed, which made it easier, and he was very flexible in his schedule and meeting with my son’s schedule. My son plays sports and work two jobs and Alex was very willing to work around that.

Alex decided each week what they would work on. They started out with English and he would assign my son some practice test. My son would take two to three English practice test untimed for a couple of weeks and then he would do some timed ones. And then during the session, they would go over those questions and work on the ones that he missed so that he understood why he missed them. They selected a good tutor and my son had great results.

My son got more encouragement through Varsity and little more feedback than other tutoring options we've used before. He enjoyed his learning experience and he felt that it was worth his time, which I found very encouraging given his age that he would be interested in spending more time studying. And he was motivated to set up future tutoring appointments all on his own without me having to tell him to do so. So, he got an A on his AP Chemistry finals with help from Varsity Tutors and scored well enough on the AP exam that he can opt out of General Chemistry at next year at college. Also, he raised his ACT score four points. It's better than anything we’ve done.

I was very pleased with Varsity Tutors. My son is difficult to deal with. He was getting better as he gets older, but he has a struggle with learning. He’s a high-functioning, autistic kid with ADHD, so it makes him a little difficult to teach, but I wanted to give him the best opportunity there was. I searched on the internet and reading some of the reviews about Varsity Tutors, they sounded like a really good place and I thought I’d give them a try. We had a total of three tutors. I was amazed with the first tutor, Steven. He was able to interact, speak and teach my son. He had a way about him that he’d go down to Jacob’s level and he made the sessions fun. My son learned a tremendous amount.

On the other hand, I didn’t see much care from the second tutor. He would set up an appointment and then cancel at the last minute, and then set up an appointment and not show up. So, I contacted Varsity Tutors and told them I wanted somebody else. They hooked me up with another gentleman who was just as outstanding, if not more than the first one. I really enjoy having them. They were down-to-earth people that could relate to Jacob's problems because I found out that they had issues learning, too. One of them wants to become an engineer and the other one wants to become a doctor now. And it simply made me aware that they were so good. Also, both of them came from a long distance, so they’ve had a long drive to get up to our place.

My son's grades improved. He does not have a little understanding of the new ways of doing math, especially when it comes to algebra which he is really struggling with. He also had a problem with memorization, which is a key component of any type of math. He couldn’t memorize 1x1 to 12x12, which is an intricate part of math, but the tutors helped him through trial and error practicing that, and now he can do it instantaneously. Also, when he had problems with other subjects, they were able to jump in and help him with that.

My only issue that I have with Varsity Tutors was when I tried to get the third tutor. I called and spoke to them quite a few times, and it didn’t seem like they were working as hard as they did when they first tried to get the first two tutors. Time seemed to be ticking by without having a tutor, but overall, I was greatly satisfied. I still have hours with them, but I wanted to let it go this summer. I will pick them back up again in a couple weeks and let them tutor my son again. I do not regret getting Varsity Tutors. I went to everybody I knew around me and told them I was so happy with them.

Somebody who could get my kid to pass his exams is nothing short of a miracle, and his tutor named Josh is great. My son still hates education and anything that has to do with it but the tutor is a requirement on my part that he had to have and he could have cared less either way. I’m very happy with the experience and I hope that it gave him a good enough foundation. But if I need tutors again this coming school year, we’re gonna keep Varsity Tutors in mind.

My work schedule doesn’t allow me to get off of work and go see a tutor. So I did some research and found that Varsity Tutors had excellent ratings on the Better Business Bureau and on Google. I was assigned to a personable young lady and was presented with a package option. My experience in dealing with her was outstanding. The tutor I was then assigned to was Christopher and it worked out perfect ‘cause that was his full time job. Even with the time difference, he was still able to accommodate me and that experience was great. My class was set up such that we had homework then a quiz and discussion. So Chris would help me with the homework, which would subsequently help me with the quiz. He was very knowledgeable about everything we covered and even when he didn’t exactly know something, we would go through the book and that would bring it back to his memory.

The platform for Varsity Tutors also allows you to have the webcam and the whiteboard and then we could share screens. So Chris could see my desktop and every single problem I was working on. It was all real-time. They also have that platform where it records your session so I was able to go back and review things when it came time for the quiz or a discussion question. It's a total game changer especially for online learners and adults studying topics that are not their strong suits. Even when you sit face to face with a tutor, you’re not necessarily gonna remember everything you cover. I had been halfway through the algebra course and I was totally failing and bombing everything. I got 60% but after class, I got a high B because of Chris. Varsity Tutors has been great and I've recommended them to a couple of my colleagues. Varsity will always be my first tool to go to from here on out.

My daughter was taking Organic Chemistry 1, which is a very hard subject, and we used a Varsity tutor for that. First, they gave me a tutor that was gonna be on Skype, but my daughter didn't find that effective. Right away, the next day, they got me somebody else and that was great. The new tutor was patient and I really thought he was great. He brought tools to show my daughter different things and he interacted with her using those tools. I was very happy with Varsity Tutors.

I went to look on their platform but my instincts told me to not agree to use it and I went looking for something else. Better and cheaper. I found it through Care.com. A good tutor for $30/hour. Dozens of local tutors responded to my job offer. I had my pick. All within 24 hours. I called Varsity Tutors the next day and canceled about 12 hours after I initially spoke to them. However despite multiple calls Varsity Tutors still charged my credit card. Not once. But twice. They almost got away with the second charge because I wasn't looking closely enough. Varsity Tutors are money grabbers. Be careful with this company.

I ordered a tutor from this company a month in advance of the test. It took a while until they finally found me one. My first tutor arrived late without notice, until I contacted him to see where he was. He spent the entire tutoring sessions talking to me about how much he loved the Italian culture! I literally was taught three problems in the three hours I saw him. I did not pay 105 an hour for a friend to gossip with!!!! He also had me meet him where he lived, in which I had to pay a toll to go there and, left after an hour because of an emergency. Again, I was taught nothing!!!!

I was told by the company that the tutors would work around my schedule and come to my home. I immediately asked to cancel, and was talked into working with another tutor. This guy arrived to my home an hour late! I didn't even bother working with him and asked for a full refund which I was promised if it did not work out with the second person. Now I am days away from taking the test because of the time I wasted with this company and will for sure fail my test! My 15 year old cousin started tutoring me today and she taught me more in 10 mins meanwhile, the tutor from the company taught me NOTHING.

How can you have tutors who did not ever take the exam tutor for the exam??? They initially refunded me more than I paid and like an honest person I called and let them know the amount was wrong. Now, they only refunded half of my money when I was told the money would be refunded in full. Do not waste your money with this company!!!! I refuse to remove this post until they make things right with me and refund me the full amount I was promised. Thank you for wasting my time and causing me to fail the GRE.

I researched tutoring services to provide our teen with requested support to strengthen her strategies for the SAT. We had a terrible experience with the first two tutors - one canceled 15 minutes before the session was supposed to begin, and the second kept rescheduling until finally admitting that our neighborhood was too far away for him. By this point we had lost several months of valuable prep time. The final tutor at least showed up on time consistently - at this point, our standards were low.

Our teen did not learn any strategies for the SAT - this was a complete waste of money and of time. We ended up with a lot of hours left - mostly because of the serial cancellations. When I sought to get a refund for these hours I was told it was far too late to get a refund. I was completely stonewalled. I think this company hires anyone who wants to make a little extra money, and passes them off as 'qualified.' I was extremely disappointed and feel ripped off.

Varsity Tutors was a little more private and there is more one-on-one than in a classroom setting. They are one of the first people to approach me and get back to me and so, I went with them and they were the first one that I chose. The tutors are very good and the specific tutor that I worked with was genuine, nice, kind and honest. He gave me some constructive criticism and found my weaknesses. We sat down and he helped me go through the motion of writing the essay for the GRE, formulating the strategy for writing that essay and how to go about it during the test. They did great for the test and I did much better than I expected.

Friends should give Varsity a try. They are helpful, professional and they’re specific to the learner. It’s a little hard to do it over the computer but it works out because they’re able to put up different sample questions up on the screen for you and walk you through. They make up for the fact that it’s not one-on-one by using some of the abilities of the program that they use to be able to give you the best possible learning experience. It was good and I would recommend it.

Our Varsity tutor has been absolutely phenomenal and wonderful, from changing the tutoring schedules to accommodating us on unscheduled tutor dates, such as for emergency help. Moreover, my daughter’s grades went up, so we were doubly pleased. It was a great experience for her and she looked forward to the sessions. The tutor honed in on the areas where she needed help and was able to help her, and she was very friendly and got my daughter, who's a little withdrawn and shy to open up. So when you do have your hour and 30 min you can focus on where you really need the help. Also send the tutor all you possibly can. The more the tutor has to work with the more help they can do for you.

When I signed up for this service over 2 years ago I was very clearly told unused hours could be refunded when we discontinued the service. I set up an auto payment and they have gotten a check from me like clockwork for 2+ years. We have had numerous scheduling issues, tutors outright no-showing and in some cases it’s been difficult to find a tutor for certain subjects. So, we haven’t used the prepaid hours every month and have over $5300 in unused hours accumulated.

We use the service for my two oldest daughters, the younger one has special needs (ASD), so it’s understandable we’ve had a hard time finding a tutor that fits her needs. We’ve tried again and again, around 10 or so tutors (some good, some bad) and she seems to be getting no benefit from the tutoring. No increase in grades, no retention of learned material, etc. Our oldest daughter graduated and is doing some tutoring herself. So, we no longer find the service useful and we want to move on.

We call to get a refund for our unused hours ($5300+) and are told of this 30 day policy and are not entitled to a refund. If we have auto pay set up every month and we can’t consistently schedule tutors every month, how can this policy possibly be an effective policy? It’s deceitful and completely audacious for this company to somehow believe they’re entitled to keep my money for a prepaid service that has not been provided. The website says 100% satisfaction guarantee. Don’t believe this. The sales people tell you unused hours can be refunded, don’t believe this.

Are we expected to call every 30 days and get a refund for unused hours because y’all can’t find a tutor to come out here? What a ridiculous policy. The sad part is we have 3 younger children and I think the service could be useful for children without special needs, but we won’t be doing business with this deceptive company. We will definitely be using someone else in the future for the rest of our children. As for this issue, my husband and I are irate and our next call will be to our lawyer to resolve this matter.

We only used local tutors recommended by people in our area but when we were looking for someone specific like a Chinese tutor for my son, we couldn’t find anyone locally. Also, for some of the upper level Math, we found a good tutor but she was always away. So, Varsity as an online option was appealing. On an Admin level, all the people that we had as our main tutors were always on time, very good about scheduling and we appreciate that too. So, it's nice to know what's coming during the week so that your kids can get their homework done and fit in anything they have for the tutor as well.

We had an ACT tutor for my son for his test. He took it twice and he actually got his Science score up by seven points, which was huge, and raised his overall score to a 33. That was good and we were thrilled. Even locally, I wasn't able to find someone who could tutor to that level and really work with him in the Math and Science sections. Lia, the ACT tutor, was awesome and she gave him tips and helped him figure out and identify the areas that my son needed more work on. For the Math sections, it was on quickly identifying that he needed more work in probability and taking the time to go through those type of questions. And she was very good about giving him extra material to work with in between, pointing him to areas in the Varsity site, and which ACT books to get, and working through chats with him. And then, she was very organized.

We used Zachary for some extra Math help for both kids just for class. Being able to schedule extra time with him before their final exams at the end of the year was super and it really helped. They both really liked him and said he was very clear in his teaching style. And then, we had Alex who did both Human Geography and World History with my daughter. I talked to him a little bit and between the two of us, we worked out a good schedule for Cecilia. We're definitely going to be using Alex for Hurricane History for both kids next year again because he was super.

We felt comfortable going into the AP exam. My son was in an AP class, but he was the only one taking the AP in his school. They weren't teaching to prepare him for that test specifically, so Varsity really filled the gap for us. My daughter also had two AP History exams that covered a lot of material. We wanted her to have some supervised review in advance of when the school would begin it and she had a great tutor for that as well. My son met with Rishi and studied with him for his US History AP and he did a good job. We don't have AP scores but he got a 730 on his SAT subject tests. He felt that the AP subject tests were better for him and he felt prepared going in. All of these History classes are a lot to go through.

We also found a Chinese tutor who did a great job. Elaine did the Chinese and she not only met with my son for an hour and a half to do the test prep, but as we got closer, she said that a lot of it was good but he could use a little bit more practice with the fluency. We scheduled a second session for just an hour where she would just work on verbal skills so they could do an hour and a half of working for the class and on the test and what he'd need, and then an hour of extra practice. That made a huge improvement in his goal in the course of two months.

Every once in a while, you get a tutor, maybe a great tutor, who doesn't exactly click with your child's learning style that would work best. And other customers usually would say that they are not sure about it which I liked because you don’t feel obligated to continue. Varsity has a lot of good tutors and you could work with someone else right away. So, we were able to get down to tutors that clicked with the kids. And after the first couple of tutors were so good, we kept adding more because it's getting the best of this world when you have public school and then you can add some tutoring and it's like getting that private school education but for a bit less.

We really had a great experience and we're going to use Varsity again. In the fall, we're gonna start the ACT a little earlier for my daughter than we did for my son because she's a little anxious on big multiple choice tests. We're gonna use exactly the same tutor we had.The quality of the tutors is excellent, that the ability to meet with the tutor online is really easy to schedule and is easier for the kids and the price for tutoring was about the same as what we find locally, but the actual quality of the tutoring and the diversity of tutors you can have is much greater. It was a really good experience and we would definitely stick with them. I completely recommend them to anyone such as all the moms whom we speak with about finding tutors.

Throughout the four years that I’ve been using Varsity Tutors, they’ve helped me very, very much. This recent tutor I've had was helping me with a research paper that was about 20 pages long. And so, I would write it, then she and I would go through it, and she’d make comments on what we were doing. I’m a student at the University of Tampa, so originally, I was using the school's tutoring program. But when I found out that it wasn’t really specific to what I needed, I started looking online for different tutors. Then, I found Varsity Tutors and with them, I could get multiple subjects from only one platform. Also, I could pay them through credit card wherein a lot of times, if you have a tutor, you have to pay them with cash or check. So, it’s a lot easier to actually prepay for the hours.

With Varsity Tutors, you also have the opportunity if you wanna meet somebody in person or you’d rather work online. And if one tutor’s not really working out, then you have the ability to move to another. I like the platform too, but sometimes it had a couple of faults, especially with internet. For some reason, when my internet went out for two seconds, it cut out between me and the tutor. But other than that, the experience was really good. I would recommend the program to a bunch of people.

If you're looking for a tutoring service, you should definitely give Varsity Tutors a call and see if they can meet what you need. When my daughter was in high school, she used them and we were happy with their service. I read the reviews initially and it sounded like they were what we needed, so I called and they were extremely helpful. They were a little expensive though, but when we started using them, they handled everything properly.

I would speak to Varsity and let them know what subject area my daughter was looking for. They would place her with a tutor and the tutor would then contact her via email, set up a time, and then they would do a FaceTime type of session. There was one tutor that she really felt like didn’t help at all. I called Varsity and they took care of it. They said, “No problem. We’ll give you the time back. We’ll give you another tutor.”

Other than that, the tutors have helped her. My daughter was able to relate to them and talk. When she'd have an upcoming test in a particular subject, she and her tutor would review all the materials. There was a person who did SAT prep as well. They went over different areas and ways to prepare one's self including time management and other things like that. My daughter has already graduated and it was definitely a positive with Varsity Tutors. It was totally worth it.

We were told to buy the package. The basic package is 9 hours, $65/hr for grade 6+. $585 total. They encouraged us to buy the next level package of 15 hr as we will get some discount but not the 9 hr package. And if we can't use all hours we can get a refund for unused hours within 30 days. Once we asked for refund of our 3 unused hrs, we were told that they will only refund us about $82 instead of $195.00 ($65 x 3 hrs = $195) as we got that package as a special deal. That was NOT true! It is a regular package, not even 1 penny saving. In addition they said I should have bought hours as needed not to buy a package. That is also NOT true! They have never given us that option!

I've had great interactions with the tutor from Varsity Tutors. She did an excellent job. There's a slight difference in the way I learn using a tutor since everyone teaches differently. Still, I would encourage others to go with Varsity as they have excellent tutors and they all want to adapt to the student's learning.

She was patient, sweet and encouraging. She obviously knew what she was talking about and she did a lot of quizzing which helped. The learning experience was enjoyable and I look forward to it. It worked out really well. I will definitely recommend Varsity Tutors, especially in a pinch.

I sought out Varsity Tutors because I saw positive reviews. I tried to set up an in person tutor for our business and the representative we had was solely focused on trying to convince us to use their online platform instead of what we actually wanted. We have tried the online learning platform before and it doesn't work well for what we wanted and we tried to explain this over and over and still the representative at Varsity Tutors was more interested in trying to sell us on this software instead of trying to accommodate what we needed. Maybe this gentleman doesn't accurately reflect what the company is trying to do but he surely left a terrible taste in our mouth and he is certainly not the type of person I would ever have representing my company.

I hired Varsity Tutors to find 2 tutors for my son, Physics and Math. When I paid for the service, over the phone I was told that any unused hours would be refunded. I specifically asked any conditions applied, and the agent said "NO". They did find a Physics tutor, but were not able to find a good math tutor, tried several times and simply failed to find a good fit for the material my son needed help with. Now that I want my unused hours refunded, they say they can't because there is a 30 day window after you make the payment to request a refund.

They made me sign a pretty long online document which states the 30 day clause, which they fail to disclose over the phone when they're eager to get your money. My issue here is that they lied to me over the phone, and that is not correct. They will not honor a verbal agreement, which by the way is recorded by them when you make your payment. I want the money refunded because they were not able to provide the service they promised. I would highly recommend using a different company.

I was very impressed with Saudrick, the ECE tutor Varsity found for my son, Will. He passed the class with a B without Saudrick's help. And he got A's from the time he started working with Saudrick and it was because Saudrick could explain the concept to him. If he didn't get it, he could explain it in a different way until Will understood it. And Saudrick's qualifications were amazing, having both the Bachelor's and the Master's in the ECE. He knows the material as well as the professor knows it, but he also is skilled at teaching it to somebody else and can explain it in different ways until he knows the person understands it. He also went out of his way to make himself available every night leading up to the finals.

I've been impressed with Varsity. I've read their Yelps and some people are like, "I didn't find anybody for me," but my experience was the opposite. It was like Varsity found someone immediately. The first person they found for ECE probably wasn't totally appropriate. She was not a craftsman and she kinda flaked on us setting up appointments, cancelling, and then saying her computer was broken. I gave her two attempts and then I called Varsity and told them it wasn't working. And within 48 hours, they had Saudrick for us. Also, every time I've given them feedback, they've responded so, I'm pleased.

And then, we were trying to set Will up for Chemistry and Varsity found some excellent people for him but time-wise, it wasn't working for him. And he was finding he could do the chemistry, so far. Still, there was a huge improvement in his learning experience since using a tutor through Varsity. And it spilled over, not just from the ECE but to everything. He had a bad first quarter at college. He ended up with MRSA, which is a bad infection and he was septic. And he didn't tell us. He should have withdrawn for the quarter, which he didn't and did very poorly. And I think it was devastating to him and having Saudrick help him master this ECE turned him around in all of his classes. He ended up with three A's and a B from being on academic probation.

Varsity Tutors is a fabulous organization. My daughter was taking some tests for entrance into boarding schools. I looked at Google, some reviews and Varsity Tutors seemed like pretty solid as an option. What I felt really unique about them is that, firstly, from an account management standpoint, when they were interfacing with the parents every time, we contacted them or they contacted us, they seemed informed on exactly what the objectives were and where we were in the process. So, it wasn't like a re-education on every call which could be frustrating.

They were also super flexible and accommodating as a company. For example, you sign up for a certain block of hours for tutoring. However, we needed a couple of more hours in addition to the initial block. They broke their normal business model of buying a block of five to just giving us one extra session because that's all we needed. The account managers had the autonomy to execute without going to be bureaucratic and difficult.

In addition, the tutors were talented and professional. They interacted with our daughter in a way that put her at ease, lowered the anxiety and made it as fun as it could be. We really appreciated the tenor of the engagement with the tutors. They were very effective, too. It was a two-hour block where the tutor is working with a 14-year old and they were able to keep her engaged with a smile of her face. Our case was that we decided to look at boarding schools late into my daughter's freshmen year of high school until she didn't have really the runway that most kids do to prepare. We tried to compress a lot in a month or five weeks time. It was amazing that Varsity Tutors was able to help us get there.

As a parent, you want to be able to help your child but you don't necessarily refresh on the thing that they're learning. So, they have the spot tutoring where you can simply open up Varsity Tutors any time of the day or night and an available tutor in that domain will then present themselves on your screen and you buy a block like an hour session.

They also have a fantastic interface and their software is great. You get a visual like face-time ask session with the tutors, so you see them and you're talking to them in one quadrant of the screen, and another quadrant, they're able to put up questions, and in another quadrant, there's a work space where the tutor can visually show the student how to solve the problem. It may not have been the same reaction for my daughter, but it felt like you get to play Jeopardy. It has a little bit of a game show. You do it and see their questions and then you have so much time to solve it. It's fun and it was as painless as it could be.

My daughter is a good student. She was taking board to get into one of the elite boarding schools in the country which is Lawrenceville. It's a number three rank, like one of the most selected boarding schools, 10% admission, and she got in. So, it was mission accomplished from the test perspective. We were really happy. I'm impressed with the company that I would love to be an advocate in any way that I can to help them.

I recently reviewed Varsity Tutors and expressed some dissatisfaction with them. After posting the review, I received a call from Virginia from the Company. She explored the reasons that I was unhappy with the experience and offered to provide some additional tutoring with a different tutor. I accepted and the new tutor had a different style. My daughter felt better about the experience after just one session with the new tutor. This tutor worked through the problems with her and explained the reasons for the process. The response from the customer department was phenomenal. Very satisfied customer!

First of all, I liked the tutor. However, I paid a lot of money for ACT tutoring. When my daughter was first assigned a tutor, I was told to wait for a call. A call never came. When I finally called ACT, they assigned a new tutor with no explanation for the prior tutor failing to contact me. The new tutor came. Although they tell you it is at your convenience, believe it with a grain of salt. The tutor promptly told us that weekends did not work for her because it was too far to drive and our home was closer to her work so it was easier for her to tutor during the week. She repeatedly told us she was going to give us the name of reference materials, but, even after repeated assurances, she failed to do so. She canceled repeatedly. Some cancellations were fine, i.e., sick, flat tire, etc. But after 3 cancellations, I began to question it. Then she was sick right before the ACT.

Meanwhile, I had been telling her we needed to do the tutoring more than once a week to get our sessions completed. She said she understood. The ACT arrived and my daughter still had one outstanding session remaining. Since her school was offering an ACT a couple of weeks later, I told the tutor we wanted the last session. That was scheduled with no acknowledgment that she failed to make the required number of sessions before the first ACT! (If I hadn't gone online to check to see if Varsity fulfilled their contractual obligations, I don't think she or Varsity Tutors would have mentioned it!) Then, my daughter got a rather mediocre score on the ACT. Seriously, it was a score she had gotten on her PSAT with no tutoring! Save your money!!!

Varsity Tutors seemed very thorough, professional and experienced from all the materials that I read and looked over. And during the process in getting to a tutor that would serve my daughter's needs, they were incredibly professional, helpful, and supportive. I was so blown away with their service and everyone of them. And I ended up talking with three different professionals, the ones who answer their phones and screens and try to get the family or the individual to help with their need.

I signed my daughter up for the high school AP Taxes, which is a hard course. We went through a process with several tutors, and they were good but I was looking for a fit for my daughter. Varsity was patient with me and they probably would have went through more if I needed them to. But they found a really great match for my daughter. And my daughter had one session with this tutor. She liked the tutor but the online thing was not for her, and it may be because she's younger or because of the subject matter. My daughter said there has to be somebody right next to her, which I think she needed for her confidence level, too. And it's hard to convey that over the phone.

We were completely signed up but we didn't end up finishing our sessions. We have already paid but there is a guarantee in 30 days. I called Varsity and I explained what was happening. All I had to pay for was the time that that tutor spent, which was an hour and a half. And then, the rest of my money was refunded. I have planned on quitting because the important thing was for my daughter to get helped for this incredibly challenging class. And then, we ended up finding somebody locally that she could sit down with face to face. But the people at Varsity that I talked with were terrific, and I'm very satisfied. I have Varsity on my radar if we stumble with a different subject again in the future. I'd recommend to people, and I already did to a couple of people.

Do yourself and your child a favor: DON'T hire Varsity Tutors! Unlike many other tutoring/test prep businesses, the tutors at Varsity are contractors. That means there is little accountability. Aside from the few hours of self-paced software platform training, there is no other training the tutors are required to have (e.g., best practices for different types of tutoring; cohesive company approach/pedagogy; etc). What this means is there is no quality control - the company has no idea how well the tutor performs, what his/her strategies are, what topics the tutor is truly qualified to teach, etc.

I was looking to hire an SAT tutor for my daughter. I spoke with the Varsity salesperson and was given all kinds of promises. Because my daughter is a student at a boarding school where the average SAT is 1430, she needed to do exceptionally well to stand out from her peers, especially as most of the kids apply to the same colleges. I explained that she only needed help with Math, but it had to be someone who scored an 800 or very close to that, since her target is 1500. The salesperson assured me he would find the best tutor - one that would be an Ivy League graduate. He said it over and over. Guaranteed it every way he could.

I was obviously too trusting and took him at his word. After taking all my money up front ($900), he then assigned a tutor. Varsity chose an *undergrad* at a regular state school - who wasn't even a math major. This might be ok for many, but the issue I had is that the salesperson outright LIED to me. I had to call and talk to several people (they would not put me through to him), so they assigned another tutor. This time, we got a student who had finished one semester at an Ivy, but was "taking some time off". She wasn't even a sophomore!

Despite the tutor profiles on the Varsity website and the option to request each one directly, that is nothing but false advertising. One of the women at Varsity actually admitted to it. She said to just disregard it! We tried the second tutor because it was obvious we wouldn't get better. Although this person was a math expert, she had poor communication skills so was not very effective. Not only that, it was very difficult to get a hold of her, and then she just ignored my emails. I also found out that the tutor was not familiar with teaching the SAT. She had no idea how many math sections were on the test, how many problems, pacing, etc.

I had to call Varsity again to request a third tutor. They sent me another student from a state school, but at least this one had actually graduated from college. Since the weeks to prep for the test were dwindling, we had to go with this one. He was passable, but failed to adhere to my request that he assign my daughter practice material between the weekly sessions. I told him verbally and via email/text. He was also hard to get a hold of and would not respond to some of my communications.

This pattern persisted over several weeks, but it got worse. He failed to schedule sessions with my daughter even though we had explicitly agreed to a schedule prior to working with him. We stuck with him at that point because we knew we couldn't get better. Although this tutor had actually graduated from college, he was only a few years out so was not a seasoned tutor by any regard. Please note that Varsity was charging $75 per hour for these kids they were sending our way. Oh, they also assigned us a 4th tutor out of the blue. She called and couldn't understand that we already had someone. The straw that broke the camel's back is that the tutor STOOD MY DAUGHTER UP THE NIGHT BEFORE HER SAT. They were supposed to have a final review session. He ignored her calls and texts and mine as well.

If I wasn't so naive and hadn't already paid the $900, I would have fired Varsity before my daughter even started her sessions because of the unethical way they manage their business. Talk about bait and switch! I dearly regret that I didn't pay the extra $20 an hour to work with a company whose tutors are full-time employees who get benefits - meaning accountability. The tutors were also adults with graduate degrees. This was definitely a case of "You get what you pay for." I suffered from hiring Varsity and don't want you to as well. Trust me, it would be a disservice to your child.

Everybody in my community uses the same few people. And my daughter is a much higher performing student than the rest of the community. There are not a lot of kids on Ivy League here and there's just a handful of them. We wanted to do something a little different so, I was googling, I looked at reviews and thought about it and decided to do Varsity Tutors instead of a local one. The first tutor didn’t speak to my daughter but Varsity Tutors interviewed me and my daughter. And then, most of the interactions with the first tutor were by text and email. We only started about two years ago and my daughter met her about six times for SAT tutoring. She was young and it was a little early so we did it every two weeks.

She didn’t do great on her SAT and she decided she wanted to take the ACT. For the ACT, the tutor came about maybe six or seven times, either weekly or sometimes we had to skip a little. And communication was a combination of the app, email, phone, and text. She was taught how to crack the test. And her test scores were incredible. And even though she was moving along with the ACT, when she took the SAT again, she said everything she learned on the ACT tutoring was able to transfer. So, she did amazing on both tests.

I've already got two friends who are now using the same tutor from us. I've told other people that they have to use this service, it's the best because there's flexibility and if you don't like the vibe or you're not getting along well with one tutor, they'll give you another one. If you have extra hours left over, you could use it for subject tutoring or for essay writing, and that the cost actually worked out to be better than the local tutors. And you can put it on your credit card. When I first signed up, I used eBay also. I've recommended it multiple times and posted about it too.

We have Varsity Tutors for my grandson and it is much more convenient having the tutor come to the house. I didn't have to drive my grandson to the tutor then sit and wait for an hour. Plus, it gives me an opportunity to get to know the tutors better. While we didn't have a terrible experience with the first tutor they sent out, it was his first time out. He didn't know what to expect and he just wasn't committed to it. He came late and canceled once. Plus, from his voice at a lot of phone calls, he seemed bored during the session. My grandson likes him, but he didn't know how to teach. He kept saying he just needs to make sure what area he needs to pay more attention to. We complained to Varsity and they immediately sent out another tutor. Also, they gave us credit when we put in a claim for the session the first tutor canceled because it was raining.

The second tutor, Rebekah, is wonderful. She's very bright, creative and as my 11-year old grandson said that she knows how to explain things so a kid can understand. From the minute she walks in the door, she has a really good energy. We have a study here at the house and I hear her and my grandson. She's very up and positive. She is a natural teacher and makes it fun. Every lesson, she writes out what they're doing as they go, and at the end, shows us what they did and the things where he could work on. He just adores her and they have names for each other.

She really gets him and spends way more time than she is supposed to. She'll stay and visit and tell us how it'd go on or whatever she needs to do. As a matter of fact, we just bought 30 more sessions with her. She is teaching him how to learn and to read the questions first when he takes a test over a paragraph. She gives a lot of little tips, like using a straight edge to put under the lines where he's reading, because he has attention deficit and it's really easy for him to lose his place. She just gives him a lot of tips on how to organize his math, how to use extra paper and make it neat. To be able to know how to do it is one thing, but to teach an 11-year old is another. We've had an excellent experience with Varsity Tutors and since we had gotten Rebekah, it had been all-around positive.

My husband had a friend from work who had used Varsity Tutors for his son for either SAT or ACT. He came home and told me about it then I looked it up online. When I got some information, I talked to them and we decided to go with that. I like that I can tell them very specifically what we're looking for. I was looking for ACT Math and for Algebra 1 then I get a tutor that teaches my son every single thing. My son loves his tutor and they got along really well. His tutor was personable and very professional. My son did ACT Math and his learning experience was great. They started with the basics of everything my son needs to know on the ACT Math and once the tutor knew that he knew it, he moves on to the next thing.

I love that it was a one-on-one and I love the online platform where they can do the work on the screen and the tutor can see where he's making his mistake. Prior to Varsity Tutors the highest he had scored on the Math was a 28. He just took the test in April and he got a 31 so his Math score went up three points which is 100% correlated to Varsity Tutors. We had used Huntington before for the same exact ACT Prep. We tried everything, including working on his own and a local tutor, but Varsity Tutors was phenomenal and I will never recommend anything else. I would tell my friends that it is the way to go. Originally, it's gonna be expensive and it is $1,500 but it's not anymore less expensive than with what's out there. We are extremely happy with them.

I searched online and read some reviews and Varsity Tutors' were very positive. They assigned a tutor to me and then we had some email communication. He comes to my house when we scheduled the class. Although we're not on a set schedule now, he's very responsive and works with me. Plus, he gets along with my son. It's a great match and it's wonderful.

The process is not just the old-fashioned two plus two equals four. Usually it's modern day like video games. If my son is into Minecraft, the tutor relates that to what he's learning and the fun computer games that are actually teaching him stuff. The tutor also helps with my son's assignments. I'd tell friends to go for Varsity Tutors. I have had nothing but positive experiences.

This service was overpriced and oversold. I like how they put precedence on customer service but that is about all I liked. My tutor was nice and it seemed like she really cared but we did not understand each other. She did not help me very much. She mainly confused me. The website was not very good and pretty confusing in my opinion and the webcam would go out every few minutes. Before the session I was told to plan out my session and tell her exactly what I want to learn but during the session I didn't even get out what I wanted to learn. I could've learned more about the subject for a fifth of the price and in less time. I felt that this was a huge waste of my money and time.

Varsity Tutors is definitely better than the tutors with the school system’s Honor Society. They check constantly to make sure things are okay, how everything was going with the tutor and if anything was not working. The tutor even said that he can't get it right but he’ll find someone who can. They really wanted the right thing for our kids and followed through a lot different than a program with a high school kid who's doing it for the community hours.

We had two tutors and we tried one through the online platform. He just graduated from Tulane and he was super nice, personable and was like having a boy band tutor. The platform that they used online was very similar to Skype and it was really easy, so that worked out well. My son graduated and was traveling after graduation. And the Summer course my son was taking ended, so when the school started, I wanted to try the in-person that comes to our home to see if that would make a difference and start the school year with the Math class that he had going into Geometry.

I wanted to see how having someone in our home works and if it was a difference. This tutor has been tutoring for about 20 years. She has six kids and she gets kids. I usually sit down at my computer and I hear them. My son gets her and he'll push her and she pushes back. It's really cute. She's not a mommy but not a scary teacher. She treats him like a high schooler, not a little kid.

It was a good experience and we actually just got our younger son, an 8th grader, put in a high school favorites class this year, and she also did that. No one really complains that it's tutor time. They would rather play the video games but my son goes, "Okay, fine. I'll be right down," which is nice. It's a good thing and it’s cool. I like Varsity Tutors’ professionalism and their fees are fairly comparable to others. Their follow-up is so cool. They are not pushing to make new sales. The teacher has been extremely flexible and the self-flexibility has been really appreciated as well. I would tell others to absolutely try Varsity Tutors because both in-house and online will help the students and they would get the subjects. Varsity Tutors understand and they can help the students learn the way they need to learn.

We did a lot of research online and we called different people about their different programs and what they offered. Varsity Tutors’ flexibility and the opportunity for my son to do tutoring remotely made us choose them. We don't live near a large metropolitan area so we needed to be able to do it remotely via the internet. My son primarily wanted them to help him round up some of his weaker points and I help him with testing approaches and techniques. Also, my son interacted with the tutor himself and was pretty much independent of me. The whole purpose we hired Varsity Tutors was to help my son improve his score and that happened.

The kids at school have tutoring and it wasn’t working. Varsity Tutors is a bit pricey but the breakdown of it, the time and how it was done was wonderful for my kids. My kids have ADD and my son has ADHD and they’re highly intelligent. But his biggest thing is organization. My daughter as well had a time on test they struggled with and my son needed ways to remember things.

My son’s grades always soared. It went up a lot of percentage points because his tutoring upfront worked. My son was at a D, it was 69 percent and after the second session, my son was able to reach a test and it went to 76 percent and up from there. That was pretty exceptional. My son always gets someone frustrated but the tutor was extremely patient. I would communicate through text message and Varsity Tutors were really responsive. We really like Jean, the tutor, a lot. My son really liked him. It was more one on one with my son but we have the recordings that they can review. It was really beneficial. For instance, my son would read some of the French items and the tutor would correct him and tell himh how it should be said. And they ended up going over the fundamentals again.

If you need help and you need someone online teaching that is gonna be patient, I would highly recommend Varsity Tutors. Anyone who struggles with ADHD and needs one-on-one teaching, I would highly recommend Varsity Tutors because of the knowledge. I love how you tell them the interest of the person that’s getting tutored and they match him with the tutor that fits. They deal with people that are all over the nation and the world and depending on where their location is, the timing can get messed up sometimes or there isn’t enough connection but they’re very thorough and they work with you at a convenient time.

    Updated review: April 26, 2018

I have been contacted by varsity tutors corporate representatives and I will be issued a refund.

    Original Review: April 14, 2018

I have used Varsity Tutors for many years for my son, first as he tried community college for a year and then again, as he successfully graduated from trade school this month. They always push big packages with lots of hours, calling with specials, etc. In order to make sure that I had enough to keep his tutoring current, I purchased a mid sized package in Oct. As his schooling was coming to an end, I realized that he would not need all the hours. I have 7.9 hours left. I called to get the money refunded to my credit card (as it had been several years ago when he decided to leave community college). I was surprised to find out that I could not get my money back. I am only allowed to use other Varsity services.

Well, I do not need any other services. My son has his resume completed and is in the process of being hired. I have no other family members to "gift" these hours to. No one needs to learn a language. This is a lot of money that my son and I need for my medical expenses, household expenses, and even clothing for my son's new career. If they had told me (as I told them that he would be graduating in 2018) that I could not get reimbursed, I would have ordered smaller packages. Not once was this issue brought up when on the phone with the salesman. That I may be in jeopardy of having too many hours that could not be refunded.

I am deeply disappointed that I am losing $400 that I truly need. I am hoping that someone further up the line contacts me and rectifies this situation. If not, be aware of this and do not buy the big packages if you think for one minute you may not be able to use the hours. I asked to be contacted and was told I would be contacted shortly. I was not. I am truly disappointed as I called again to leave another message for resolution to this.

I started out with a basic package to help me complete my computing assignments. After the first assignment it started being quite obvious the tutor was unprepared and struggled to understand the concepts. After a few sessions I decided I had to complain and was switched to another tutor. They apologized saying this one was better matched for my needs. I sent links of the assignment and what I preferred to work on so he could at least look over it and be prepared this time. The second one had even less of an understanding and we got absolutely nothing done.

At this point it's clear it was a total waste of money and I called and asked for a refund. However, they are unable to give me a refund even after the wasted hours and two useless tutors. I had to pay for an actual tutor just to help me understand what was going on. Now that I have no need for a tutor because the semester is over and I was unable to be helped, I'm stuck with hours that I don't want to use with this service.

Taking some conversation lessons in French was the first step I took when planning a trip to France. I contacted Varsity when I found them online. The person who helped me over the phone was friendly and helpful, I bought 30 sessions to make sure I had enough practice to feel comfortable speaking the language while in France. I explained that I had taken French in high school and college, so all I wanted was to practice. The first two tutors had no idea what to do or where to begin, it was ridiculous. The first tutor kept pointing at objects in my house asking me if I knew the French word for them. The second one had me check YouTube videos on learning English and translating the sentences into French. I took immediate action in both instances and requested a refund since the tutors were not prepared to do the job.

Samantha offered to find me a solution in a week's time after the second fiasco, she came through for me big time. She recommended a French student living in New York. He understood perfectly well what I wanted to accomplish, helped me have confidence when speaking and taught me a lot. I can honestly say I couldn't have been happier with the result. I came back from France a week ago, I was able to communicate with everyone without feeling insecure about my grammar or pronunciation... I met with business partners and visited all the tourist attractions. I am very happy with the outcome, it was money well spent.

We signed up for ACT/SAT tutoring for our daughter. She is an A student (top 10% in her high school class of over 500 students), and she wanted to score slightly higher on both tests to achieve more scholarship opportunities. She is a highly motivated young lady with strong study habits. We agreed to a ~$1600 contract with Varsity Tutors. Our goal: two points higher on the ACT and sixty points higher on the SAT. Both of these increases were achievable, according to the VT sales representative.

For the next several weeks, our daughter met with her tutor, performing practice tests, and reviewing incorrect answers. She also worked and studied on her own, based on input from her tutor. While the interaction with the tutor was ‘ok’, we paid for the results. Again, these objectives were achievable according to Varsity Tutors. Bottom line: our daughter scored exactly the same on both exams. No improvement. We were looking for a reasonable improvement, and what we got was a lot of stress and a big disappointment for our daughter, who put forth an enormous amount of time. Personally, I believe all of these types of companies overstate their ability in terms of college entrance exams. We won’t use this type of service for our younger child, and I would caution people to lower their expectations.

The fact that Varsity Tutors had virtual tutoring with the face cameras was really what sold me, and they’re at the top of the search engine, which also stood out. Their rep explained things clearly. He understood the situation and said that the services could help. I requested more information about the program, which he emailed me right away. The information was really easy to follow and understand. I was skeptical about using the virtual tutoring service, but decided to give it a try. Trying to find a tutor in my area was really not easy to do.

My daughter was able to improve her grades and catch up on her assignments. She gained a better understanding of concepts because she had that one-on-one experience. They’re efficient, and their hours are flexible. The tutor I had worked around my daughter’s schedule. For example, we needed more time, so we just added more time. We wanted to also increase how much tutoring she got a week and they accommodated all that. I would highly recommend Varsity Tutors for anyone who’s having trouble. I can only speak about Math though, because that’s what we took, and I’ve seen that it helped my daughter a lot. But I know they do other subjects.

    Original Review: March 9, 2018

My experience with Varsity Tutors was TERRIBLE! I was looking for a tutor for my son. During 3-4 months I changed 5 tutors. All 5 tutors were just random people from the street that had no idea how to do tutoring. The last tutor just send me a text message saying that he cannot come anymore just 30 minutes before the scheduled class. I called the agency and asked my money back. Joel (the manager) asked me to give them another try. I tried 3 more times. All the times I was calling them they were asking for the last try.

Finally when I called them again and asked for money back as they advertise on the website, the response was that they cannot return the money because I am out of the 30 days window period. BIG LIARS!!! Would never use them again. From the package that I bought for 1,600$ I only used around 400$. They are saying no refund is possible for the rest of the money (that is more than $1000). If you do not want to put more than 1000$ in the garbage do not use them!!!

Varsity Tutors offered so many variations of times, whether it was online or in person. And whenever I talked to any of the other tutors before and I explained my daughter’s situation with her schedule and that she's a cheerleader, they were very judgmental. But Varsity Tutors was not. I also liked their friendliness and the welcome-ness that they showed us. It was like coming home and talking to someone you've known forever. So even though I researched some different tutoring options, I chose to go with them.

It was easy for me to let my daughter, Katie, deal and schedule with her tutors. I have listened in a couple of times and her tutors were very encouraging. They made her think about things. She's also always so relieved and happy when she gets off the phone with them. Math is her best subject and it's the subject that we needed the tutoring in. The bad part was she had a very difficult cantankerous teacher and it appeared to be that her goal was to make the student fail. So, Katie, would go online and meet with her tutor, then she’d understand everything and have every concept. Her learning skills improved greatly because she knew she was understanding her lessons and her confidence level was good. But the next time she had class, it was like there was nothing she could do that was right even though she knew her lessons.

We had an incident where Katie dropped the class not because of varsity, but because of the teacher. She made it so incredibly difficult for her and the stress level was beyond reality. So, Katie decided to take the class next year. But she didn’t realize and her counselor didn’t advise her that when she did this, Katie became ineligible and in order for her cheer team to be eligible for any of the awards that they'd win or to go to Nationals, Katie had to learn the rest of the semester plus review a whole semester's worth of work in seven days. When I called Varsity Tutors about the whole situation, they said they were on it and they worked with Katie. However much she needed, they were there. And the night before her final exam that she had to take, the second tutor that we had that was out at Colorado Springs told Katie that they'd get on it at 6:30 and she'd stay on with her until she was comfortable and could go take that test.

I've told many of my friends about Varsity Tutors. I told them that if they want the most amazing tutoring experience, they should go with Varsity Tutors. They work with the kids in terms of schedules because most kids have very busy schedules. They also make sure that the kids understand the lessons and if their child is not clicking with one tutor, then they'd find somebody else. The upfront price was a sticker shock, but when you break it down, it's either the same price as or cheaper than meeting with another tutor in person. I've also told my friends about that, too, to prepare them. When you're going to spend $1,000 you need a little preparation. A lot of people have taken Varsity's number from me and either their child went right through it or they did something different, but I know they haven't gone with another tutoring system.

I'm a very, very happy Varsity Tutors customer. I have two high school students who use Varsity Tutors. I was reluctant at first because I didn't think the online system would work well. But I'm happy to say that I was wrong. It has been a huge success. The tutors are patient, kind and they get along with my kids. I've also seen an improvement in my kids' grades. Initially, I was trying to find a tutor in Latin which was not the easiest thing in the world to find. I started looking on the computer and Varsity Tutors came up and the online system worked great.

The tutors at Varsity Tutors are all very, very highly qualified. You just have to explain to them the situation you're in and then they match you. We had great success with who they matched us with. They also offer a system for switching if you're not really comfortable with whoever you get matched with and it wouldn't be a criticism of anybody, but we never had a need to use it. They're great about scheduling too. Their scheduling is easier than with an in-person tutor because you can choose the last minute. One week you might not even talk to the tutor and then the next week, you might want three sessions and that usually worked out great. I'd tell my friends not to let the facts online hold them back. They should investigate Varsity Tutors right away because they have people on every subject that are caring and are very capable of helping students raise their grades. It's been a big benefit to our household.

We liked Varsity Tutors much more than the different option we've used for a different child. Varsity Tutors was personalized and it was one-on-one versus being in a group setting. And the tutor came to our house. It was really easy to schedule online and some of the Varsity Tutor people I spoke to helped with that. Our tutor would enter a date and they would just resend it to us for approval. Although the first tutor we were set up with never responded, so we had to get a different tutor. After that, it went great.

A lot of things happened in the middle of that whole experience. Right after having most of the tutoring, my child was to take the test but she was not mentally in the place for that. It was her first time to take that test as an over-arching and it's not for a specific subject. The tutor gave her strategies and tips on each section and works with her to explain if she didn't get an answer correctly, what the correct way to approach the problem would've been and what the answer should have been.

We had a really positive experience with them. We might actually use the tutor again for a couple of sessions. My child has taken it once then got two-points higher the second time. But she's still two points lower than what she was usually getting on the practice test with the tutor. I'd definitely recommend using Varsity. It's a great way to not waste your child's time going over a lot of things that they already are very well versed in. In that way, you can concentrate on the areas that your child needs help in before the test.

Prior to using Varsity Tutors, we had in-person tutoring. Varsity Tutors was very approachable and their online option gave us a greater selection of tutors so we could find a tutor that was a good match for my kids and that met their individual needs. So far, we've had three tutors through Varsity. It did not work well with one tutor, but the other two were really good, and we're still with the third one. There were definitely language issues with the bad tutor so my kids had a hard time understanding what she was saying and she didn't explain things in a way that they could understand. That went for one session and it wasn't a good fit.

We had another tutor all summer and he was really good. The kids liked him and he was very approachable for them. He tried to go to their level and engaged them with things that they were interested in, and he tried to make the learning fun. In the summer, we didn't have an earlier working time, so he had more liberty. The tutor that we have now is really good. She's nice, very patient with the kids, and very flexible. If either she or the kids needed to change tutoring days, we always worked that out well. Also, if the kids needed extra help for a test that was coming up, she made herself available.

The platform with the online option that Varsity uses works well and it's nice. Our current tutor is in Georgia and we're in Chicago. The tutor has the same books that my kids use for their classes, so the material is right there for them, and there's also a way to take pictures of problems. Kids these days are very computer-savvy and they're used to computerized things. We had a couple of problems with connectivity, but we got someone to help, so that was good. It interrupted the session a little bit, but the Varsity people were very quick to respond and find a fix, which was great. The most important thing is to make sure that my kids get a good quality tutor, who is a good person that has good teaching skills, and not someone who just wants to make extra money. Online tutoring is a good option for kids.

He had also an AP Physics tutor, and then maybe another for AP Chemistry. Also, my daughter used them for her MCAT and did extraordinarily well. We used just the online tutoring. We did not have anybody in person come, and that worked out much better for us. If you’re just having someone in town, then you’re limited by your location. With Varsity Tutors' tutoring system, my son can do it on his own schedule and he gets the best person. My son knows exactly what he needs in the tutoring situation and that’s what makes the biggest difference.

I'll tell friends that if they're looking for a tutoring system that works, they might try Varsity Tutors out. For instance, my son decides he needs a tutor tonight. They have instant tutoring where you just try your luck and you get someone who is in your particular course. In other situations where instead of going that direction, my son's actual tutor that’s been assigned to him, and oftentimes they’ll be so flexible and they will fit him in. A lot of people set dates, but that’s not what worked for my son. He only needs the tutor when he needs the tutor, and yet the tutor from Varsity Tutors has been very knowledgeable. Also, if he didn’t like a particular tutor, they would readily get him a new one. They've been the most accommodating. I’ve never seen anything like it, and I'll have the grandchildren use them. I’ve recommended them to everyone I know.

I had used a different tutoring service before and Varsity Tutors is much better. It's also much less expensive than the other local places. For a lot of people, that's a big consideration. My child had an excellent tutor. I got a lot of emails from her regarding all her updates. She was phenomenal. My child only did six weeks as a test prep, and it went well. I would recommend Varsity Tutors to my friends.

My son graduated without a diploma because they discovered at the university two weeks before he was graduating that he needed to take two more classes. It turned out that Harvard extension school had four credit classes he needed to take at his college. He was on his last class and it was a Political Science class about humanitarian aid in times of crisis. It was really interesting topic but it was not something I knew anything about. Also, he has learning differences and he's more of a listening learner. That’s not always conducive and although he has accommodations, it wasn’t working because he couldn’t find someone in the class to provide notes. I realized I really needed a help because the class required writing papers and testing.

Varsity Tutors looked good on the website so I connected with them and they called me. I talked about what kind of tutoring was needed and it took them a couple of days but they connected him with a woman who was a graduate student in Political Science International Relations. It was a good fit because she was very chatty and she liked games. Her encouragement and the way she worked with him gave him a lot more self-confidence than he had going into it. When you combine anxiety with lack of confidence, that makes it even harder but she was able to keep calm and work with him until he really understood it and until he could do it. She was part tutor, part therapist so it was really nice. I’m not sure she realized what a big impact she had on him but I can’t imagine that he would have done as well as he did without her help. He got a B+ for the course and then A- on his last paper which was a big paper, 45% of his grade.

My son even miscalculated when the paper was due. He thought it was due a week from the day it was due but it was actually due the Tuesday after Thanksgiving break. People go home for Thanksgiving and so did his tutor. But she was really helpful. They were able to meet a couple hours over the holiday weekend and she kept giving him support either over the phone or through the shared document on Google Drive. He got a lot out of her and the proof is in the pudding. He was even nervous about looking at his grade but he got an A- on the paper.

Also, I bought extra hours before the paper was due knowing that he would need some more support. But he didn’t use them all and I didn’t realize there was a deadline for getting my money back. Still, they gave me my money back for the hours he didn’t use and I was happy with that. That was very nice of them. Varsity Tutors wasn't cheap but at that point, I felt, "Whatever it takes." And it was worth the money. I would definitely recommend it.

Parents should be really prepared on what the issues and learning challenges are so that Varsity can pair their child with the most appropriate tutor. I think that makes a big difference. I spent quite a bit of time talking to someone at Varsity Tutors. We went through what the situation was with my daughter and what were the challenges with learning she was having. He made a point to pair us up with a tutor that specializes with that and did a really good job matching the tutor with Paige.. We had a tutor who was a teacher and had a master’s degree. He was very well qualified.

Also, being a working parent, for me to get my daughter somewhere was going to be very hard so doing the virtual tutoring was great. Plus, we got access to someone who we may have not been able to have access to because he was out of state. So we got someone with the specialty no matter where he was located. I talked with the tutor briefly before my daughter's first session on what he was going to do and how to keep her engaged. We did tutoring at 6:30 at night. That’s when we got home and she’s probably not the most attentive at that time but he did a really good job of keeping her engaged. He also helps her break down things in reading, which was where she was struggling. Working with Varsity Tutors was a good experience for us and we'd probably do it again when we need some tutoring.

The previous tutoring service I had was a private one-on-one, face-to-face tutoring which was really good. But Varsity Tutor was just as good with the Skype situation. They both worked for us. We had a problem with our first tutor with Varsity Tutors and I've already gone over that with some other people. But our second tutor was fantastic. She was really great and patient. My daughter needed Varsity Tutors for the ACT practice tests and they did practice sets. Then they went through and talked about the answer and why my daughter got it wrong and what it should be. It took a lot of time to make sure that she understood the material on the practice set before they move on to something else. My daughter needed to get into college and Varsity Tutors did want we wanted them to do. I would definitely recommend them.

When we decided we needed tutoring I started looking online for what the possibilities were. I didn’t even know that there were tutoring places that did it online, like Facetime and all that. I contacted a few and I liked the sound of things with Varsity Tutors. The person I talked to was amazing and went through everything so well and gave me so much great information and was a parent herself. We could totally relate with everything. It’s always been that way with them -- always great communication, always easy to get a hold of who I need to get a hold of and get things taken care of. They’re always keeping in contact with me too if there’s anything we need or any changes. It’s super great communication and they have so many options.

Lita loved her tutors. She was hoping to be able to get the first one that she had again this year but wasn’t able to work that out. But she got another great tutor and she got one working with SAT prep and he is absolutely beyond amazing. In fact, this semester, he’s tutoring her with her math. All of the tutors have always made her feel so comfortable and they’re so encouraging. She has used three different tutors there so far and she always had a really great experience with all of them. They’re good teachers and they obviously know their job. They know how to relate with her and to help her, giving the extra time. She’s able to understand the material a lot better after working with them. They figure out what kind of things work for her and go with that especially this one for math. She actually said to me, “I think I learned more from two hours with him than I learned in a whole semester. It was just great.” Otherwise we wouldn’t keep doing this.

She definitely does better with working with them. The options are so great. Aside from the regular tutoring sessions, there’s the instant tutoring option where she can get on there and get with someone if she needs some quick help so it’s really beneficial. Iit’s really helping her confidence with her classes. And so we’re very happy. They’ve got really great tutors who identify well with their students. They’re enthusiastic and very positive, and we’re definitely seeing the results with her grades improving.

Varsity Tutors is really good. I like that they have a board where I can see and they can see what's on it, too. My tutor, Brenda, has been perfectly fine. But the first tutor I had walked around while trying to tutor me, and I could see it in the background. And sometimes, when you sense certain things like that, it's not really good. I'm glad that I went with my first scheduling and I got a new tutor immediately.

Brenda broke down every step and went through all the stuff that I needed. She looked at it, reviewed it, and then gave me suggestions, which was really helpful. And it helped the tutoring session go by very smoothly. The price was a little steep and a bigger packet would be good. I don't realize how fast I go through the nine-hour session and I saw myself using more of those than I thought I would use. Other than that, Varsity Tutors has been very helpful. I like how they were able to switch out some more different tutors. I like the time that the tutors are available, too. They are really on time and have everything prepared. Moreover, I'm still able to use what the tutor provided me later on down the line.

My daughter was working on her bachelor's degree in advance accounting and she had attempted and enrolled in a major course several times over the past two years and was repeatedly unsuccessful. It was the only course she needed to graduate with a degree. On her fourth attempt, she went from an F to a B. Varsity Tutors was really a significant intervention that seemed to make the difference. Her academic performance evidenced significant improvement and Varsity Tutors enable her to be successful and to complete her degree.

If there was one thing that would be a barrier to Varsity Tutors, it would be that they’re very expensive. But they have a national database and they were able to find experts in the area that could provide a service that we were not able to find locally. It was something we really needed. My daughter found Varsity Tutors to be on the same level as the resources available on campus to students at the university. But the university didn’t offer tutoring in the specialized content area that she needed.

My daughter had struggled in the course this last time and we weren’t sure if she was going to be successful. When we ran out of tutoring sessions, I called Varsity Tutors. I only needed one more session to finish the semester and they shared with me how expensive it was. I told the rep it was cost-prohibitive and they gave it to us complimentary. They really extended themselves and went above and beyond. I really appreciated that expression of support for her. Aside from that, I have also always found the representatives of the organization to be very helpful and professional. I’m also a university professor and I’m glad that I know about the resource because it’s also something that I wouldn’t have to pay to refer to my students if they didn’t get the support they needed on campus. I would definitely consider using Varsity Tutors again, too.
