I’m happy with Varsity Tutors' services. We have been using them for a couple of months now for our son and they’re great. We're very happy with the tutor too -- they seem on point and reliable. When I found the company online, they seem credible and experienced. I then decided to give it a try to see what it would be like, and it seems that it works. My son is with special needs, and before Varsity Tutors I only got a behavioral therapist with him. This is the first time that I used a regular tutor for him for math and reading. They seem very diligent and they always follow up. If they have new packages and my package is up for renewal, they always call me. They seem to have good promotions going on. Overall, I’d recommend them.

We are so happy that we got help from the tutors at Varsity Tutors. Both of my children benefit from the services from Varsity Tutors and learned so much from the tutors that they interacted with. My daughter got into Vanderbilt which was introduced by her tutor and she loves it there. We are so grateful that my daughter go into a very good college. My son is a freshmen at high school level but we are confident that he will also get into a good college. He is working with Janine currently to prepare for SAT. She is wonderful to work with. She is patience and knowledgeable tutor. Which is what we have been looking for Wesley. They work well with each other. We highly recommend Janine. She is great!!!

My children needed help with the SHSAT and other parents told me about Varsity Tutors. The company replied quickly and the tutor came to our house. I have twins and they are very different kids and she tailored her response to each child, which I appreciated. It was overall a good experience. She was very reliable, she was good with the kids and we did very well as far as the test went. I would recommend Varsity Tutors.

Math tutor Tiffany - Ms. ** is a wonderful teacher that is able to draw my son Mason’s attention to the study of math and find ways to keep him engaged. She teaches 2nd grade at a local school and is familiar with other families in my area, and is also familiar with the current methods that the puplic schools use. It has been easy for my son to work with her and the time spent with tutoring has translated into better engagement at school. Mason has improved his math skills significantly in a relatively short amount of time and I would recommend Ms. ** to anyone I know that also has a child struggling with school mathematics concepts and/or attention to the school work.

Varsity Tutors was responsive when I contacted them and the tutor was very good. My daughter has gotten a lot out of it. There are multiple ways to communicate, both on the website and he texts me directly to coordinate tutoring sessions when he needs to. Then, an account manager from Varsity Tutors touches base with me at least monthly to make sure everything’s going well. The communication is very good. I’m very happy.

My son had tutoring for English with Varsity Tutors. We signed up 12 hours and have used 11 hours. They are very flexible according to timings and place. We very much liked that they provided a tutor who is near our area and can come wherever we wanted them. The instructor they sent for my son was very smart and intelligent. Plus, she guided my son very well. My son's SAT jumped from 1440 to 1570. In three SATs, he got 1440 and the first attempt, he got 1570. He is very much impressed with Varsity. And we are very much satisfied with them. We got whatever we were looking for.

Working with Varsity Tutors was the worst experience I've ever had. Their customer service reps are incompetent and I was matched 3 different times with tutors who had less experience than I did in the subject I needed help with. I requested a refund 14 days ago and it has still not shown up on my account. They tell you it's easy to get a refund but you will have to call them multiple times if you want your money back if you're not happy with the service. Seriously look anywhere else for tutoring.

I purchased tutoring services for a refugee teenager who earned a division I college basketball scholarship but her first attempt at the ACT resulted in a score of 12. After almost a year of tutoring and three more test attempts she got her score up to the minimum to accept her full-ride scholarship. We used two tutors, Alex ** and Lu **. Both have experience with ENL learners. Alex did sessions online and Lu worked with her the last weeks in face-to-face tutoring sessions. I was extremely impressed with their communication with me about session times and scheduling, work habits and cultural communication issues with our teenager. I had a contact person at VT that was available regularly and touched base with me about our progress and frustrations. I am a social worker and educator myself and would recommend Varsity Tutors to others.

He matched her with a tutor within 24 hours. So tutoring wasn't just my high schooler but also for my kid in college. Steffen has been a great resource for my college bound son! Steffen went out of his way to make sure everything was okay with the tutoring. He called me severally in Nigeria to follow up on my son and daughter's progress. My son finally got multiple admissions from almost failing her CAD classes. My daughter aced her CAD course. My experience with Steffen is exceptional. Unfortunately, I met two inexperienced IB tutors, and they don't use organized materials/books to teach. They sometimes are late for the online sessions, and they may cut off your session time with extras without letting you know. When you try to contact some of the staffs, they always pretend not be there and don't answer your phone calls. That's why I am disappointed.

I’m in a PhD program and I had some private tutors from school who I was not so happy with. They weren’t knowledgeable enough so I googled and I found Varsity Tutors. They were the first one I contacted and I have been using them since July or August of last year. I have one tutor so far. Her name is Deborah and I have nothing but great things to say about her. She’s knowledgeable and she has a PhD herself. She takes time to explain to me some of the basic things that I’ve been missing. When it’s not tutoring sessions and I send an email, I get a response immediately which is very much different from my professors. Also, if she doesn’t know something because my field is very specialized, she admits it and we work things out together. She helped me to go through my written prelim which I passed in October and I would’ve not been able to do it without her.
Three weeks ago, I passed my oral prelim which makes me a PhD candidate now. There would have been no way I would’ve been able to do that again without her assistance. I am in the process of finishing my proposal now and I’m working with Deborah very closely on this. I will be using her help in any of the steps, before the prelims, for writing the proposal and even when it comes to my dissertation and defending it. I’m very happy with the program and I’ve signed up for a whole bunch of more hours. I also have some of my cohorts who are going through the same stresses that I am going through to get ready. So, I’ve already given my recommendations to friends and some of the other students that asked me.

Every Wednesday, I have an hour and a half long session with Ryan. We usually start out with my homework for the day. I explain to him a question on my worksheet. Then we both simultaneously work on finding the answer. If I have difficulty solving, I ask him about it and he always has a detailed and helpful explanation.

We tried to do an online tutoring but that didn’t work for us. Varsity Tutors was recommended by a friend and they have been very receptive. They understood our concerns. We found somebody that came to the house but I didn’t like that person and my daughter wasn’t really learning. Varsity Tutors found us a different tutor and we’ve loved that tutor, and we’ve had that same tutor. They are constantly listening to the parents, to our concerns and what we needed, which I really like. Our experience has been nothing but positive.
Varsity Tutors employ really good tutors and I like that they have different types of tutors because every kid isn’t gonna learn the same. And so, my child has had an excellent experience. Her tutor is friendly. When my daughter veers off and wants to talk about something off-topic, he is able to bring her back to what they are talking about or what they are studying. Varsity Tutors is very proactive to checking with parents to see if their experience is positive and if they wanna tweak or have any concerns or any changes they wanna make. It’s helpful so that if the parent has something and maybe reluctant to let the company know, they have a constant opportunity to tweak or fix anything that needs to be addressed.

We signed up for $500 worth of Spanish tutoring for our 8th grader. The first tutor didn’t show up, turns out she didn’t have a reliable car and decided the drive to our house was too far. Strike one. Varsity Tutors suggested we try the online platform while they identify an alternate tutor for our in person sessions. We set up a time and waited, the tutor was a no show and we were not provided an explanation. Strike Two.
We set up another online session while we waited for an in person tutor. The online learning platform is total junk. Video and audio were choppy. We were disconnected from the tutor several times. Tech support Was unable to stabilize the app which behaved differently as we tried several different computers. Our poor son spent two hours distracted by technical difficulties and learned nothing but patience. Strike three. Maybe they should try better developed conferencing systems and focus on the student instead of making a profit. Apps like Skype, Webex, Facebook, WhatsApp, FaceTime or Zoom seem to work well enough for billions of people. Or maybe find tutors that show up.
Randy, We are disappointed your experience with Varsity Tutors was not consistent with your expectations. Because our client relationships are important to us, we appreciate your time on the phone to address your concerns. We are glad to have been able to reach a mutually acceptable resolution. Although we believe the situation to now be resolved, you are welcome to reach out to us directly at the contact number provided to you should you need anything further. We analyzed a few tutoring options and Varsity Tutors was the most flexible and reasonably priced. So, we went with them. Our tutor, Roy, was exceptional and their staff overall was equally exceptional. Initially, they paired us up with a tutor that seemed like he was not gonna be a fit because he said was a social media wizard and that's not what I need to be taught to my son, Travis. I need him to learn the material so was frustrated with that and I immediately called up Varsity Tutors. They rectified it and they gave us Roy. Roy has been perfect and I don't know what my son's score would have been with or without him, but I can tell that Travis' confidence level boosted meaningfully and he's be practicing for two hours every time he’d see Roy. The combined practice plus the hands-on tutoring ended up positively. All in all, the learning experience since obtaining a tutor from Varsity is great and I would recommend them.

I needed somebody that was gonna have college-level tutors for my son and went to Varsity Tutors. My son's tutor now, Jim, has been just phenomenal. Every instance after they have a tutoring session and they do it on the phone, he sends the notes immediately. There was a program that he and my son were working on for computer science last semester and he continued to look at it after him being done with the session. So I just feel as though he’s really on top of things and his way of explaining things is great. My son was doing very well in computer science anyway, but really wanted somebody to just reinforce things. And this guy’s way of teaching is very good.
Varsity Tutors is very good in following up. We had sort of a low, that we didn’t need a tutor for a while. They’re not overly aggressive, but they’re attentive. We had actually purchased a huge block of hours and didn’t need them. They were ready to expire, and then my son wanted to hone in on a couple computer science programs. So, they had let me pay for, sort of, another smaller block, and then gave me access to that other block of hours that would’ve normally expired. They’re very accommodating. I know they’re running a business, but they try to keep everything in line.

I started with Varsity Tutors about a year ago when my older son was struggling in reading, writing and just being able to express what he wanted to write on paper. I tried a couple other tutoring services, but it wasn’t quite as focused as I needed it to be and it wasn’t as individualized. I gave Varsity Tutors a try. The tutor that we got really got to know my child, understood how to drum out and have him think about ideas. And his grade in that class went from a B- to a B+ within a couple months. I continued the tutoring for him over the summer, and I started having my younger son do it in the summer too. Not because they needed it, but just to maintain and keep them in practice. My older son has actually not been doing much tutoring over the last two months. He hasn’t needed it and he is getting an A in English. And I think it has a lot to do with the skills that she taught him a year ago.
What I’ve done is instead of my older son doing the regular tutoring, I’m having my younger one do more regular tutoring. He’s in 6th grade, and he needs some additional help on conjunctions and grammar. She’s working with him so that he has more time working on those things and what he would be able to do in class or homework. But I also have the flexibility of saying, “My younger one doesn’t need much this week, instead help out the older one using this time slot. I want you to review his essay and work with him on formulating ideas.” And it’s been working really well.
I like that it’s one-on-one and it really focuses on the needs of the child. They really tried to understand what the child needs. It’s really a private tutor but the fact that it’s online, and there’s also the option of instant tutoring, is fabulous. Because if it was a real person in my house, I’d have to be there or if it’s a real person, I might have to take my kids somewhere. The kids also love the whole online interaction because they do so much on laptop computers and phones that it really aligns with how they do things today.
The staff at Varsity reaches out to me from time to time asking how things are going or if I need anything else. They’re good at reminding me when I’m running low on hours because that’s something I don’t always have time to check. If I also notice that one of my boys or the other one needs slightly different help depending on what’s going in their English class or if they need help with certain things about reading or even if it’s reviewing a draft of something they’ve written and offering them some suggestions, I just need to send a quick email. And they totally understand, they incorporate it right away into the next session or if they can, they’ll accommodate with a special session. So to me, the flexibility in what they’re covering and how I schedule and when I schedule, that is tremendous. I just had a really great experience with Varsity Tutors. They’re very responsive, they’re working with me, they’re working with the kids as individuals, and that to me speaks volumes.

I wanted to get some help quickly. I read through the website and Varsity Tutors looked like a very reasonable service, so I gave it a try. Their staff was efficient at getting us signed up and they were on the aggressive side to get us hooked in. The first tutor had a very strong accent and his English was hard for my children to understand. He also stepped above their limits, made them feel inferior, and I don't think being a good tutor means making your student feel bad. And then he said that his camera wasn't working and that was weird because my children were supposed to see their tutor. So, it was pretty bad.
The next one we had was a former elementary school teacher named Brittany and she was terrific. She couldn't have been better and she was able to pinpoint what my children needed help with. She was also able specifically help them with certain problems in evaluating the way their questions were phrased. Overall, Varsity's cost was fairly expensive, but it suited our needs just fine.
Rose, thank you for speaking with us regarding your experience with Varsity Tutors. While we are disappointed the first tutor was not the right fit, we are so glad your children got support with their second tutor, Brittany. This is the reason we stand behind our Tutor Guarantee. Please don't hesitate to contact us if we can assist your family with additional support in the future.

Varsity Tutors was the first tutoring option we had for my child who's eight years old. I chose them because I could do several different subjects without having to pay a separate amount. The other place I was looking for would only do one subject for the amount of money. My daughter has ADHD and she’s a bit anxious as well. She was having problems with reading and catching up because she didn’t have the proper medication when she started in school, so she fell behind. We got the tutor for that and her reading has become great. She comes home with other school work too and the tutor, Elizabeth, helps her with that but also helps her stay on task. She’s wonderful and so much more patient than I am, even as a mother. She redirects her and gives her proper breaks. Everything’s perfect. The Varsity Tutors platform is easy to use and to connect with a tutor for my daughter. We've been using them for close to two years now and it's like a Match.com but for students who need a little help and to connect them with college or graduate students that have an expertise in the subject. We started when my high school daughter needed help with Spanish. We've also used it for Algebra 2, Physics, Chemistry and Calculus. Every tutor that we've been paired with has had a knowledgeable base of the subject, showed up on time and stayed the whole time. And the Varsity Tutor employees touch base with me by phone every month or so to make sure things are going well.
I'm provided with a couple of ways to contact the tutor. I can message them using the Varsity Tutor app, which is easy to use when we need to schedule an appointment or communicate with them. They've also provided me with the tutor's cellphone number, and I've often texted with them and have never had someone not respond on the same day. Varsity Tutors is a great resource for connecting with local tutors that have good knowledge and are good at helping a younger student through the learning process. I would highly recommend them.

We're making way more progress with Varsity Tutors than we were with our previous tutoring option. Before, we were just using a private tutor who was an acquaintance in our neighborhood, and I felt we had reached her extent of expertise and we needed additional help. So I started looking online and found Varsity Tutors. I investigated a little bit, and I got a phone call from them, and their price was reasonable compared to the other competitors.
Our tutor is Dorian and we see her twice a week. She does guided reading, comprehension questions and a lot of work with fluency with my son. My son has jumped about three reading levels since we started. He really likes Dorian, and she has figured out exactly the type of stories that he likes. He likes nonfiction, and every story she picks out, he is just captivated. So even though he doesn't want to do it at first, he is absolutely captivated by the stories. It's what makes it go by really fast. He's usually pretty tired at the end because it's a lot of work for him. But he has noticed a change too at school, and he is really proud of himself.

I've used the Wyzant app to find tutors, and have also done the free tutoring that my school offered. They were good for my in-person classes, but I have been taking some complicated upper-level Science classes online through UC Berkeley extension. And so, it's a lot more difficult to find a tutor for Genetics, Immunology and Biochemistry, especially in person. With Varsity Tutors, I like the convenience of doing the online and instant tutoring sessions. Their online platform or the instant tutoring that I can do with my tutor is extremely helpful. Also with online tutoring, it saves our videos. So, I can go back and rewatch our session, which is super helpful if I’m later doing something and need to go back and try to remember what was said or how we did something. That’s really convenient.
I've used two different tutors. In my Genetics class with my first tutor, it helped me significantly to better understand things that I was trying to self-teach myself. And then, with the tutor that I have used now, he helped me briefly. The Genetics tutor and I would do the online face-to-face platform and it was great. I would email him the worksheets or whatever I was working on that I have questions over so that he had a heads up. And then, we would get on there and he would use the drawing pool and walk me through it. That was a great way to get the point across. I also liked that because we could do a 15-minute increment. So, I didn't have to basically pay for an entire hour of tutoring if I just had two quick questions.
Varsity Tutors' customer service is exceptional. Anytime I call and have a question with my account manager, I'm always answered. If she's not available, someone else will always be available to help. So, I never have to wait around to try to get answers for anything. I also appreciate the fact that if I have not had a session in a while, they will call and follow up with me just to make sure that everything is going okay with my tutor or if I need to find someone else.

My son booked regular sessions with Kathy for both Chem I and Chem II. She was able to explain and work out problems for any concept for which he wanted extra help. She also was familiar with all the labs and helped him prepare for them ahead of time. Kathy could easily teach a college chemistry class. The standardized final exam included material not covered in class so she taught additional concepts to improve his overall score. My son greatly enjoyed his time with her and her tutoring was essential to his top grades in chemistry.

Daphne was a fantastic tutor. She was very knowledgeable on accounting and focused on wanting to teach concepts and introduce them first before just jumping into problems and learning that way. She made herself extremely available and was super helpful during finals and important tests to schedule sessions. In terms of material, she always knew the answers and explanations for each problem. She explained everything to me in my own time. We worked through the computer, but she would draw out everything she was talking about and the processes of everything and help me to visualize it, which was very helpful. Depending on where you live, you might have to work with somebody through the computer. They’re definitely a very good service though.

My 9 year old daughter experienced severe bullying at her school, because of this, I was forced to homeschool. I am not an educator by trade and tried my best to get her focus off the surrounding elements and more on her studies as she experienced a drastic decline due to the bullying. I reached out to Varsity Tutoring for help. Paid their fees and developed a schedule. Around 24 hours later I received an email from the tutor whom had accepted the block, however he had rescheduled me for hours later. I declined the change and reached out to Varsity Tutors who informed me that I needed to contact the tutor directly. I contacted the tutor who advised me that he already had a client he had been working with previously and could not change their schedule to fit mine. He advised me to contact the 800 number. I did so again and was advised that they would provide me with a different tutor. I waited and nothing.
I began seeking other avenues at this point because time was pertinent for my daughter's educational progress. Christian (manager at VT) advised me not to cancel - that he would award me a free session, but to give him an extra day. I gave him two. I received no callback as to progress or anything. I called VT back and requested a refund in full. I was advised that because Christian was on vacation, I would have to call back because apparently he was the only one authorized to perform a refund. 6 days passed and FINALLY was able to reach Christian who was snotty, but did refund my money. I would not recommend this to anyone. Tutors are supposed to aid the families, not provide more stress.

My experience with Varsity Tutors has been good. I just started my MBA program and it was convenient over the internet to meet virtually and using new technology. I studied computers, and Varsity Tutors has helped me with the content as well as through several classes and passing exams. I'm using them this semester as well. They could improve in getting specialized tutors. For my program, I take a lot of specialized classes, and I feel like a lot of the tutors aren’t qualified to teach those classes. Nevertheless, making a good relationship with the tutor, setting up appointments and being proactive about it, and finding the resources that students wanna cover in the appointments ahead of time are the keys to being successful with Varsity Tutors.

I live in Arizona and I needed a tutor for the first month of the scholar year and for the summer for my oldest because she was having problems with the reading and writing. A tutor I used two years ago on a different city looked online and showed me Varsity Tutor's website. One of my kids is in first grade and the other one is in Pre-K. I told my eldest to focus more on the reading and writing, so that’s what they do and also first-grade subjects for the first month including Math. Then, for the little one, it was just the basic stuff from Pre-K like the ABC. He improved a lot because he knows the whole ABC and he didn’t use to know all the letters, so the tutor helped me a lot with that. And he started with all the phonics and the numbers and all the basic Pre-K things that they learn. When they transitioned to this school because the school already began, they weren’t too behind of the other kids, so it was good. I definitely recommend Varsity Tutors.

They accommodated me very well, and they had a very organized and good system going on. They put in the effort to get me my tutor, and the great thing about that is we have so many similarities as far as our learning abilities. Our learning styles are pretty much very similar. He gave me practice problems that would be focused on what I struggled with a lot, which was really helpful.
He was also always really available to talk and help me out. He even helped me with some personal statement stuff that I sent to him. I asked him for help on that for grad school and he was wonderful. My manager, Amy, was one of the most amazing people I’ve ever worked with. My first tutor wasn’t suited to me and Amy went out of her way. She kept checking in and calling. She was so wonderful and a person that I would wanna keep around in my life. We became pretty close. I had other tutors that I had looked at in the area. I know Huntington, a big tutoring place around here but what engaged me to join Varsity Tutors is the flexibility with the school schedule, and I didn’t have to leave. With everything being online now for most of my classes, I felt like it was a better option all in all to splurge the money on them. The pricing was very good. For the tools that they offer and the convenience of it all it was really worth the money. The first tutor that I was paired with was great. It was the second week of the semester that I looked into them since I’ve been looking at other options. And since we were in the second week of the semester, he kind of did work on like a slower pace. But I was doing a chapter a day with these classes and I really needed to work at more of a fast pace.
Eventually I had to be reassigned to a different tutor, Lois, who was a great fit because Varsity Tutors informed them that I needed to work at a faster pace. She made me feel very individualized, like she didn’t have another life outside of me. But I know she had another job, and she was taking some classes. She really knew her stuff. Any question I asked her, she was on it. She knew exactly what I was talking about. When I started this semester, I wasn’t failing, but I was under passing, like I was at that D mark. She got me all the way up to a B by the end of the semester. So I was really happy with that. The only issue I had was at the beginning when my uncle was trying to make a payment for me and he had a little bit of trouble doing that. But overall they have been very good if I had any issues.

My high-school son took training with Varsity Tutors in preparation for taking the SATs, and it was him who mostly interacted with the tutor. Through feedback from my son, I thought Varsity Tutors did a good job of understanding what his gaps were and focusing on those gaps, walking through practice exams and then eventually preparing him to take the test. His scores went up by about 100 points in the period that he planned this. It was kind of a last-ditch effort to see what we could do to bring the scores up a bit, and it worked. I would suggest that my friends give Varsity Tutors a try.

The second tutor responded to our efforts for appointments, but was chronically late [sometimes by as much as 20 minutes] and would only let us know last minute by email, if at all, which made it impossible to reschedule. On two occasions, there were tech glitches and no one ever returned our calls to try and reschedule. At one point, the tutor just never showed up and didn't bother to contact us. We continued to have more problems with the next tutors assigned to us. I will never use this company again, despite the free hours they gave us. I just want my money back.

We had done some ad hoc in-person stuff but Varsity Tutors has higher quality. I went with them and the tutors whom I’ve used for the kids have been exceptional. They're more up-to-date. They already knew everything. It was better for the kids. However, I had one bad tutor with Varsity Tutors, but it was my fault for picking the wrong person. My daughter was already skeptical about using online, and then we just didn’t use it. Still, we reselected somebody later, and this person has been perfect.
Our son went through tutoring first, and he had a guy who was phenomenal. In fact, my son was in high school, and he refused to take AP Calculus. But then, the school didn’t offer regular Calculus. Because he was gonna go to OMNIS the next year, he signed up for Business Calculus 1 then did it online. I got him a tutor and he made 100 in the class. I also tried to get my daughter to use that person because he’s so good. She needs Math and Science help, and that’s what he is good at. And that’s one thing I like about the Varsity Tutors. They got so many tutors and that you can match the personality. So now my daughter got this girl who’s in Tennessee. She loved her and she refused to do online tutoring. I typed into Google about Math tutors near me and Varsity Tutors popped up to the Wentzville area. I looked at it, and it said there is an office in St. Louis. All their reviews seemed good, and everything seemed legitimate about it. Everyone who I talked to at Varsity Tutors was awesome. I also had a decent experience every time I called them. They were very helpful, especially the initial person I talked to out in the St. Louis office. His name is Rob and he was really fantastic. He understood what I was trying to do and what I needed to get through so I can keep on pursuing my degree and get past the Math class.
My program was kind of interesting and they were able to work with that. It was like an accelerated program for working adults. The main one was statistics, and then quantitative management. And then, the other one was like a research design, but that was basically just linked to statistics. Varsity Tutors helped me improve in statistics. It was for three math courses that were roped in one night a week with the same teacher, but it was worth nine credits. I had never taken the statistics, and haven't taken a math course in quite some time, so I was extremely bad at it. I wasn't confident at all in my ability to pass it. I was also hesitant with the online format. But Varsity Tutors helped me understand with my notes, what was being taught, helped reinforce that and helped me along the way.
Varsity Tutors explained it to me when I first called that I would pay a little bit upfront depending on what I wanted to do, and how many hours I needed. It was a bit of an investment that ended up being worth it, because I did well in the class, and the tutors are high quality. The main tutor that I had was very knowledgeable and knew exactly what the course interior was going and what's going on. If anyone needs a tutor, I would definitely send Varsity Tutors their way, if they had the means to go with it.

She tries new and different things in order to keep my daughter engaged and she's doing well. Initially when the tutor spoke in French to her, she would answer it in English or single words in French. But now, she will answer whole sentences in French or at least maybe try to do French. She might mix up some words which doesn’t work but she's much more responsive in the language now.
I need to review her lessons more with her when the tutor isn't around and I haven't been able to do that. But even with that, she's been retaining it really well. Using Varsity Tutors was one of the best investments we made for my children to have confidence and get their smiles back. With them performing so well on their tests is truly a testimonial that this is working. My 9th grade daughter was looking to find a Biology tutor. That was an immediate need, and so I didn't have a lot of time to find a referral or look at other sites. Varsity just popped up on a Facebook page. We set up everything in the system and my daughter was paired off to one person but that didn't work out. Then, she got Melody and that was terrific. My daughter just got her Biology final test yesterday and she got a 97 on the free response questions. It was the highest grade in all of the four Biology classes. The next highest grade was an 88. Nobody in her class got an A, and for her to get a 97, even the professor commended her.
She also used it for English. She had an annotation that she had to do on another project. Things didn't work well with the first person that responded but we weren't charged. She then got hooked up with the second person through Instant Tutoring, and she also was excellent. My daughter got some of the highest grades on her work. It was interesting because this tutor is an 8th grade teacher and she met the person who wrote the book that is being used in my daughter's English class. Our experience with her, as well as with Melody, made us consider the service for my son who is in elementary school.
My daughter was able to have the tutoring on a video conference. They record the sessions, so she could go back and have that information if she missed something. Then, in the middle, if there's a question or she needs something, she could also contact the tutor. Using Varsity has boosted my children’s confidence and it met us with our schedule and travelling because when you're having tutors come to your house or going to a location, it becomes very difficult. I would recommend Varsity Tutors.

I'm very satisfied with Varsity Tutors. I had a different tutoring before but that wasn’t near as good as Varsity. With my prior one, I wasn’t getting what I actually needed because I only had one tutor so I wasn't getting enough out of it. With Varsity, I'm able to have interactions with the tutors to show me exactly where I'm going wrong at and it's more at a personal level. My instructors showed me how to go in and look at and work on a problem, whichever it was. At first I thought that I couldn't do it, but once they showed me how or some of the things that I needed to do, that made me think for myself. I had Jenna and she was very good.
I had Economics with Jenna, and it was about Statistics. Before I went to Varsity, I thought I could not do it and I was about to give up. But whenever I got with Jenna, she was like, "Uh-uh. We're not going there. You're gonna have more confidence than that." I'm not a good person with Math but once she showed me which way to go, I was gone. When I went to the first class with her, I made a B but after the second one, I was so used to it I made an A. I did very well with it. You're as good as you wanna be, and she just let me. That put a lot of confidence in me. The same thing happened with the Principle of Accounting class that I have now where I thought I was not gonna be able to do it. The more I looked at it, the worse it got for me. They said "It's not as bad as you think. You just gotta put your mind to it", and I got it. I've had some very good experiences with Varsity Tutors and I would recommend them highly.

My objective was for my son not to flunk this particular class and that he's gonna graduate high school. He can't get lower than a C either because it's gonna impact his scholarship. Varsity Tutors had an online component which is necessary for my son’s schedule and they were extremely highly-rated. My son has a lot of time commitments, so we needed to make sure we could have something available. The tutor that we're using at Varsity Tutors is fantastic. I've had interactions with him because we have to schedule, we communicate on certain issues, plus I hear him. I make my son take the tutoring session in front of me so I hear their entire interactions. His ability to teach is phenomenal. The level that he is taking my son to is just a lot more than we expected. It's also very cost effective. It doesn’t involve my son driving or somebody coming over here. They're interacting visually, so it's great.
My son obviously needs some guided time. And so, the best way that my son is learning is through interactive discussion, talking, saying things. So, being in a lecture-based scenario where my son doesn’t have an opportunity to talk, interact and practice isn’t necessarily getting the information into my son in the best way. And so, my son is going through the homework, but he just needs more. And his tutor is able to provide that and he doesn’t provide my son the answers. He just provide him ways to think about the problem and it's really outstanding. My son was absolutely flunking this class and he has an A now. It's a really amazing improvement,

Two years ago, we started with Varsity for my oldest son and then my middle child used them for her SAT prep work and some other studies. And for about four weeks now, we're using them for my 8th grader, Celia, primarily covering Algebra. Compared to the previous tutoring that we had, Varsity is 100% better. It's one-on-one and my daughter is able to ask questions if she doesn’t understand something. She also feels comfortable that even if she doesn’t understand it after asking once, she can ask again as many times as she needs to, which I really appreciate. She doesn’t feel like she's being deemed stupid because she doesn’t understand something.
We really like John, our tutor, and my daughter is doing well with him. It's important that you're comfortable with the tutor that they select for you. You must be very descriptive about what you're looking for in a tutor that you feel would best match your child. We've had tutors that don’t match and sometimes aren't good communicators. So, if I feel that the tutor needed communication that was important then I would have to express that to Varsity Tutors. And I feel like if am dissatisfied with something and I call, it would be taken care of immediately. Originally, we were assigned a different tutor who never got back to me, and once I let Varsity know that, it took three days before I heard back from them. I had to reach out again to ask where things were because we felt an urgency to get my daughter started as soon as possible with the educational part of it so she wasn’t getting further behind. Still, we've had a really good experience with them.

I had a few tutors with Varsity Tutors but Kate was very consistent. She offered a lot of help, so we stuck with her for so long. She was helping my child with his English and his writing, and he made honor roll. So, she really got deep with him. If he did something that wasn't right, or he said something that was wrong, she broke it down for him so that he could understand it in a different way. When he got to that specific subject, he could channel it the correct way. She was hands-on and he misses Kate. His reading has improved and even the way he speaks. If he said something that was wrong, he would correct himself and he has been doing that a lot. Varsity Tutors should keep doing what they’re doing. They are expensive but my child had a great learning experience.

I researched and spent some time online and I found Varsity. I got as much information as I could and I was satisfied with my initial research that Varsity would be helpful. Then, I spoke to them and one thing led to another. I worked on the FINRA Securities 79 exam Investment Banking with my tutor and we meticulously covered just about everything there was to learn, top to bottom - videos, study pages, explanations. They were all an hour and a half sessions so it was a combination of really going through every aspect of it, discussing it, and giving me assignments. It was a really on mark and very comprehensive approach.
My tutor and I really developed a phenomenal friendship. I said to him that he was as much a partner in my studying as just a tutor. He was very efficient, didn't waste my time, didn't waste his time, very businesslike, and very supportive and reinforcing. I took my exam twice. I did not pass the first time. I made a lot of progress studying with him. We kept going and he knew exactly the emotional support I needed and the academic. He knew his material inside and out and he was a great partner. I really enjoyed my experience with Varsity Tutors. When I was able to take a step back, I thought it was a lot of pressure for me because I have a family and I work. This wasn't the only thing on my plate, which it is for a lot of people. But getting beyond that, I realized I really had a great time learning the subject better.

I'm a student of Engineering and my Math is very important to my GPA. I searched on Google and Varsity Tutors was the first option on the list. I searched reviews, got an overall feel for what they might be offering and then I went from there. In class, the teacher teaches as fast as he can and if somebody asks a question, that’s fine. If not, then he's talking out loud as he does it. With my tutor James, he lets me say what I think needs to happen next, and if not, he corrects me quickly so I don’t form any bad habit. We worked through things together that way.
With the really hard ones sometimes, he would jump ahead of me a bit and then we'd do a play-by-play which doesn’t seem forced. James is spot-on and he helped me tremendously. Some of the stuff is easier than the others and I can actually grasp it, but without him on the other stuff, I don’t know what would have happened. So, I needed that help. To not have any experience was tough and he has made it possible. Varsity Tutors is worth it.

I have a visually impaired son that gets assistance from the Foundation of Blind Children who employ Varsity Tutors. They put us in touch with a tutor out of Milwaukee, WI. Her name is the "Good Doctor JH". What a joke. She was so out of line it was not funny. Calling my visually impaired son's university professor and telling him lies to make herself look good while simultaneously placing my son in a precarious position with the university and his professor. Totally unprofessional and uses profanity while instruction. Rude and hung up on us and then called back. She called my son's vision impairment, "a ** entitlement!" and she was tired of it. AVOID Jill **. Varsity is good overall and has assured us they will find another qualified tutor.

Varsity Tutors has been wonderful. With them, I have a more convenient schedule and their price is less compared to my child's previous tutors. The guy we have at Varsity Tutors has also been great. We were able to choose the type of personality of our tutor and we wanted a guy who was sort of funny, which is what all boys want. Plus, my son would not respond well to a very strict woman. I am a woman and a teacher myself and I know how he would respond.
And if we had to make some adjustments, Varsity Tutors made the adjustments. The office staff is very thorough about calling periodically to make sure that we’re scheduling things or not scheduling things or if there's a problem. So the communication is great. The management office has been very attentive as well to our needs as far as follow up calls because we'd study for a series of tests or over the summer then they'd call again, ask how we were doing, and if we wanna schedule more. I really appreciate that.
Also, Varsity Tutors really helped my son with some test strategies and the fact that everything is all on the computer, which is what kids want now, is a great thing. My son could even write his answers on the computer. I've also recommended Varsity Tutors several times. I tell others that I enjoy the fact that I can get a block and the larger block I get, the more discount I get. And that with Varsity, you have the ability to choose the type of tutor you want and what they're well-versed in. You get to choose if they're male or female and what their schedules are.

Somebody told me to use Varsity Tutors if we needed tutoring. I googled it, then I bought some hours for the tutorial at Varsity Tutors. My daughter had an awesome experience with Peter for the tutorial for the SAT test. I also bought a number of hours to tutor for her AP classes, which is for Calculus and English. Varsity Tutors is very active in sending information if I still need it so that one doesn’t remove from my mind that that's the only company I need. It was up to the expectation. With Peter, they wanted to match the need of my daughter and they are focused on the tutorial in the Math area.
My daughter and Peter click. Peter taught her the strategy on how to take the SAT. She took it last Saturday and, when she came out, I asked her if Peter's tutorial helped and she said yes. She was happy with that and I told her maybe she can still use Peter to tutor her with her AP Math so that her grade will go higher. I always recommend Varsity Tutors. I told families that if their children will take an entrance test, I used Varsity Tutors, and they have actually used them.

We got Varsity Tutors and had our son tutored in Mandarin. They were really good and flexible, and they addressed our goals and worked with us to see that everything went well. His tutor was fantastic. She regularly worked with my son. Once or twice a week, they had an appointment and she helped him with his homework. She worked with him on the language itself, and she had the same workbook that they used in class so she was able to be consistent with what he was experiencing in his classroom. She was also very concerned that he understood everything and she made it fun for him. My son enjoyed it. Unfortunately, my son is in a new school and they don’t have Mandarin, so he's not continuing that. But given the opportunity, he'd like to continue it.

I would not recommend Varsity Tutors for any test related tutoring. Spent hundreds of dollars only for our daughters SAT score to go down. She did two hours of tutoring each day for six days leading up to the test. She felt more confident, but was devastated when her scores came back. Her tutor was very nice, and seemed to know what he was doing, but my daughter was his first one he has ever tutored through Varsity Tutors.
We didn’t know this till towards the end of her sessions. We spoke in depth with Varsity Tutors before we signed up, and they knew her goals. I really wish they would have paired her up with a tutor who had experience. Again... if I would have known I would have asked for a new tutor... which is the only guarantee they offer. I really feel like we wasted a lot of money. If you need tutoring just for homework, then VT would probably work. If you are looking for SAT or ACT tutoring then find a place that guarantees an increase in scores.

Paid $425 over phone to rep-- he called me saying my son was interested in tutoring which I knew he was interested. Agreed to pay over phone (I was at work and could not ask questions). He informed me that I could cancel within 30 days and DID NOT mention that one must have at least one tutor session prior to canceling. Thus they would not cancel. BUT my son DID try to have a session and the tutor canceled and also was unavailable for another session. BUT they still would not cancel it.

I was online looking for tutors and Varsity Tutors looked good. I called them and I was impressed with the people who answered the phone. You could tell they were educated, and I just got a good feel from them. I explained to them my situation, and then over the course of two weeks, they were trying to find a match ‘cause what we were looking was for my son with special needs. He has Asperger’s, as well as OCD and ADHD. He wanted to learn to code, but he didn’t know what kind of coding. Varsity Tutors stayed in close contact and let me know that they were working on it. And then, when they found a match, they sent me her profile for me to approve or not.
I approved of her and she was just amazing. She walked my son through several different languages of coding. He learned the basics. We stopped because he's learned enough to be working on it on his own. More than that, she learned how to deal with him on her own, she was so patient. And after about four sessions, he was great with her, didn’t need a therapist or anything. She was able to cater to, not only his needs but the way he learned. He's very intelligent, but he learned visually. Overall, Varsity Tutor's people are not only highly educated but very smart. They're highly selective on who they hire as well. I highly recommend them.

We signed up with Varsity Tutors in early September 2018 to help my daughter prep for the ACT. They advised that they would do what they could to help for the September test date, but said the best results would come with the October date. They were great in communicating with us as we made our decision to use their service and great with the follow up almost to the point of following up too much. My daughter spent considerable time working with the tutor (who rescheduled on her at least twice). Outside of tutoring time, my daughter studied and practiced diligently. She took the test in October. ZERO change in her score. I immediately reached out to our account manager and have heard nothing but crickets. Very dissatisfied and cannot recommend Varsity Tutors. I was primarily interested in the instant tutoring i.e. you have a problem and can get help from whoever is online. I asked about 3 subject areas for the instant tutoring and they claimed they were all available for instant tutoring. I signed up, it turns out that not only were the subjects not available for instant tutoring, they did not have any tutors for those areas. They then claimed they would get someone for one of the subjects. After 10 days of various promises I gave up and requested a refund. This turned out to be a brutal affair. Each time I requested a refund they would come back with 'let me tell you about other options.' Although they have a 30 day refund policy, I am not holding my breath.

I’m a single mom and I look at raising my son differently than a mother who has a father at home who teaches math. Varsity Tutors was referred by my nephew. He used multiple tutors and said that Varsity was neat. It also goes with my lifestyle and the needs, so I went for it. So far, my son has been going one-on-one with his ESL teacher who is teaching math, too.
Varsity Tutors is pricey and I wish they cost a little bit less. That would be helpful but I know that their service comes with a price. Despite that, I like that they’re very open. There’s no material that goes for every kid and with Varsity Tutors, the teacher is going by my son. Instead of me pushing my son for the classes earlier, now he waits for her. So even though I cannot easily afford their service, I’ll continue longer. Either you spend 30 or 60, but if it is being used well, you don’t mind spending it. That’s how I look at it and it seems right. Being a typical mom, I keep throwing ideas at my son's teacher and she is always open to me.
At first I only wanted to try out Varsity Tutors. But after working for a while with them, I liked them. Sometimes in summer, my son would all of a sudden want to play outside more. Fortunately, whenever his teacher could, she could work with him on those hours. And whenever there is a math or science test, because I’m paying a lot, I make sure that along with the whole subject, she’s helping him with the critical thinking. So I ask her if she could suggest anything, what we should do with Akhil or if she could Google about a kind of test, and she would come back with me with the links to try or books that'd be good for his age.
One time, I asked her if she could give him a good and creative homework. And she thought ahead and told me that Akhil came up with a small story and it has A to Z alphabets in it. I liked that. So my son was thinking and writing something. Then one day, she said something about this book that everybody said to write about. She told my son not to worry about it. She told him to just write to her about the author and the content. She makes sure he gets the interest in what she’s doing with him. And he likes her, so that is working well. If at all I cancel one of his classes, my son gets mad at me.
Other than that, I lost my job for a while and we changed the session for only one class per week. So there hasn't been much advancement or change with my son but I don’t blame his teacher for that. Still, I see that my son has more potential. There was change when he was doing twice a week but there is a bump in his thinking and his spoken English. Still, I always recommend Varsity Tutors and I tell others that the best part about going with them is, you get your money's value and they're flexible. Sometimes, if you don’t go to the class, you lose the money. But with the Varsity, you can cancel ahead of the time and adjust something. You can go back and see that moved. So I tell them that instead of you spending $30 and you don’t enjoy the fruit of it, you should rather spend 60 with Varsity.

Over the last 6 months I have dealt with at least 8 different tutors from Varsity. At first everything was great, my son (17) worked with a tutor he liked for about 1 1/2 months to review for the US History AP. Suddenly 10 days before the exam, the tutor had a "personal" issue and he could no longer work for Varsity. Fine, that does happen, and I felt lucky that Varsity would quickly draw on their thousands of tutors to find someone new. The next guy spoke English with such a thick accent, he was impossible to follow. Basically the test was over before they could locate a suitable replacement. Later in the summer I asked Varsity to locate a tutor to work with my son on his college essays and they introduced us to Anna. She was a good match for the task except that very quickly her availability (after about one week) diminished as she was starting another job.
So my son got a start on his essays and then we had to beg her to find time to finish. It wastes time and my money every time my child has to start over with a new tutor and they have to get up to speed on what the previous tutor has done. This experience matches to the one my daughter had with tutors from Varsity in some respects but she had some very poor tutors in addition to the chronic revolving door issue. I gave Varsity a long lead time of at least 7 weeks to locate a tutor for my daughter to prepare over the summer to take the SSAT. I interviewed the tutor Zach who we were assigned in late June and he did talk a good game about his approach and qualifications. The first session, Zach did testing and evaluating so there was very little interaction but I was assured that would be coming. He also left the session 20 minutes early because he said he would need the time to grade my daughter's test and make a plan.
After 3 more sessions which he finished 10 minutes early each time although we were charged the full amount and where I was in the vicinity but trying to give my daughter the space to concentrate, I suspected that not much teaching was happening. I decided to watch the video supplied by Varsity of the session. I think Zach was actually working another job at the same time. There was so little interaction. I was shocked to see that 20 minutes went by where not a single word was exchanged. There was virtually no instruction whatsoever. I immediately phoned Varsity and they were very sympathetic and agreed to find me a new tutor. A week went by and a new girl contacted me, we set a time to work and then right before the appointment, she let me know she would only be working for Varsity for 2 weeks and maybe I didn't want my daughter to have to start all over again, again.
So next another tutor, John, who turns out to be very qualified and works with my daughter for about 6 weeks. In September, again suddenly our sessions are declined and I learn that John too has left the company. I am very disappointed but they agree to locate another tutor. This time they find a tutor who is a phd in Physics. I contact him by message in the app to see if we can discuss his approach and qualifications at which point he replies curtly to look at his Varsity homepage and that he passed the test to tutor for the SSAT. That was it for me! I was looking for an experienced SSAT tutor and while it is not rocket science, I don't believe it is something any smart person can do.
At this point I had enough and asked for a refund of my remaining tutoring hours, over 9 hours. I was told over the phone that someone would be looking it to it. About a week later I got an email that said they were looking into it. 3 weeks went by with no contact so I phoned again and was told I would not be able to get a refund as the time had expired. I bought the hours with the assumption my daughter would be able to work with John. I did not realize their business plan is just to have you changing tutors every 6-7 sessions.
I was told that a manager would call me to discuss my situation and I did receive a call within 48 hours. I was told to call and leave a time when I could be reached during the week. I left her a message with a 3 hour window and got no call. I left another message with a new window and asking to be sent an email with the time she would be available to call me if she could not call me during that new 3 hour window. I am so disappointed and frustrated. Varsity must treat their tutors terribly or there wouldn't be such great turnover.

There were a couple different tutoring companies in our area but Varsity Tutors was better for us because we could schedule it whenever my daughter needed it, which was helpful. As far as scheduling when no one had to come to our home, she didn't have to go anywhere so the convenience of being able to be at home was such a huge benefit. We also get a lot of teachers and college students working in the field that seem to know what they're talking about and have a good perspective on things.
Matthew was my daughter's Chemistry tutor and he was easy to understand. He explained everything thoroughly and made it a lot easier for her. I loved that if she missed a day, she would text me from school, "Can I get a session with Matthew tonight?" She went from getting C's to A's, and it eliminated all of the stress and anxiety she had with homework and testing. It definitely gave her a lot more confidence too. Varsity Tutors is worth every penny and I would highly recommend it.

When I was looking for a tutor for my son's ACT, I researched and found a couple perfect tutors based on the description of their experience, availability and locations. It says to contact the tutor. The tutor does not contact you, the company does and they tell you the tutor you selected is not available and they assign the tutor.
Not realizing this was the same company I attempted to do business with before, I reached out to a tutor for my son's DAT exam and then went through the same circle as mentioned above. That is when I realized this is the same company and they advertise the perfect tutors to connect with you then when you call the tutor is not available and they will select the tutor for you. It is a shame they are doing this as time is valuable and they wasted my time.

Moreover, he was very understanding in the material and a lot of times, he was better than her teacher at some things.
She was struggling and was not learning the material at all but the Varsity teacher was super knowledgeable. This is an online service, why is there no indication of the currency you are paying at any time? For this price, I expected a more seamless process and to have access to experienced accountants. The staff is very friendly and proactive, it seems they do their best to help but I felt compelled to defend myself in my decision to close my account.
There was a miscommunication and my initial reason for opening the account was not met in time. I was under the impression there were CPAs available in my area to help--as was indicated on the website I subscribed to -- I didn't know there was not a single one available. I was not prepared to pay over 100 CAD for one session with an accounting graduate/student with no accounting experience (even when highly rated) when I can get that for free at my college. The US follows GAAP whereas I need assistance with IFRS and ASPE. I don't know if accounting students in the US are taught principles-based accounting or how in-depth they learn this method and was not willing to find out over time with my tutor while paying that much.
I received calls at inconvenient times with no prior notice and wasn't asked when the best time to contact me was. Also, I was a little weary during the initial transaction because I thought I was signing up for another tutoring service of another name then received a call from an unfamiliar local number. At first, I thought it was a scam. The application needs some improvement, I didn't know how to use it properly and was left pressing buttons to see what they do, after a while it's manageable. Some useful things could be added and some functions rearranged. I'm glad there is a guarantee in place as to customer satisfaction, I was offered solutions which was nice up until the very end, but none that I would opt for given my short time-frame and the time it was taking to get a meeting with the assigned tutor. Needs work but nice concept.

By the time they want to get a tutor, it's not always possible to find one really quickly. My son went with a lot of tutors 'cause he did for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, although he liked a few tutors more than others. The tutor knows what the students need to give the right advice and help him to improve the skill of how to take the test and analyze everything he needs. The tutor assigned some practice for my son and he did all the practice. They walked through all the questions he answered and if he did not get the correct answer, they would analyze what was the reason for the wrong answers. A lot of times when we try to set up the schedule, the requests were short notice but the tutor responded very well and fast.

I called the company to complain; I was very upset and this was the second time that my daughter was stood up by one of the tutors.
The person with who I spoke on the phone told me that I should try reaching out to the tutor, this upset me further; my daughter had stayed in the chatroom for 30 mins waiting for the tutor, and they still expected me to contact the tutor when it is their company? They have not contacted me since that day, nor have they offered another tutor for my daughter, and the tutor that my daughter was working with has not contacted her apologizing or asking about another meeting. I am very upset and I did not expect this type of unprofessionalism. I called the company asking for a refund for the 12 hours that my daughter has remaining and I was told to leave a voicemail, and I have yet to hear back from the company. All they care about is money, do not expect any of your issues to be solved by the company. Look for another tutoring service if you expect professionalism.

I looked around at some different vendors but did not do any real use of offerings other than what the school offered like internal tours. Varsity Tutors had really good practices of figuring out the student and then adopting a learning program for that particular student. It was very specific to have that person run. Their tutor would review my daughter's student needs, go over the courses that my daughter needed help with, then basically getting back with them over what the program might look like in terms if they have online materials coupled with a real person they can interact with.
We’ve done the online option where she dealt with tutors online then we’ve done in person option where the tutors come to our home and work with her. It really helped improve her skills and also improved her ability to believe that she could get the work done ‘cause they told her new ways to think about problems and her work so we got a markedly increase in her performance academically. When there were questions, she could go and send it online via the portal. It would get responded to along with suggestions. They were very hands-on whether it was physically instructing her or through the online portal.
My daughter is shy in classes, but Varsity Tutors was able to develop a good relationship both online and in person. She would come prepared for learning and they would become prepared to instruct and so that worked out pretty well. My daughter got an A in math, so it was worth the investment. People should definitely consider Varsity Tutors as a learning option for their child.

My daughters were taking piano lessons at a teacher's house, and last fall my wife was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo chemotherapy. Since she was the one who would drive them to their lessons, I wanted to find a teacher who would come to the house to provide lessons and found Varsity Tutors. They said they would be able to fulfill this request and find a teacher, so I paid $500 for lessons. A week goes by, and they couldn't find anyone. Another week goes by, still unsuccessful. Another two weeks go by. They offered video, virtual lessons.
Having had piano lessons myself, I know this is not the ideal way to learn to play the piano. One needs to have a teacher sitting next to you. Here we are a year later, my kids are no longer interested in the piano and Varsity Tutors still were unable to provide me what I wanted. When asked for a refund, they said that the refund window was 30 days and we are beyond that window. They said they have other tutoring services that I could use, but all I wanted was the piano lessons. There was no follow up as the 30 day window approached with an apology or offer for refund since they were unable to provide what I wanted.

Varsity Tutors has been really helpful and they're responsive. They follow up too. They have tutors that can come to our home. They got to us when it was a critical time. We needed them right away, and they identified Toby and made the introduction quickly. All of my interactions with them had been really good. We had Toby all last year and we’re set up for a session this school year. My son needed him for Physics last year and a little bit for Math this year. He's awesome and he had been really helpful to my son. He had given him practical information, explained the concepts in a way that my son could understand it, and had shown him how it was applicable in real life. My son's grade went up significantly in Physics. He went from a D to B.
It was a really good option. They also have online services, so a tutor can work with your child online. I was really skeptical about it, but the ones that my son had with the tutor online was really positive. It was cool that they could work on problems together, because there was a virtual board, and then they could share documents. So that was a really great interface.

Varsity Tutors has really good reviews. On their website, it’s showing that very qualified people are their tutors. So it seemed like a good option for my LSAT. Michael was my tutor and we would email or chat to figure out the time we wanted to meet, then we would meet for two hours. We met five times over about two weeks. He identified some of the weaknesses I had, gave me practice problems, and helped me through how I should be thinking about certain things. He also gave me some tricks that I didn’t know about that helped.
I already took my LSAT and it actually didn’t go that well. When I was practicing before Michael, I was around 155-ish. With Michael, I started scoring around 158-ish. And then my LSAT, I got a 162. But I think it was first-timer jitters and little differences. Also, there’s an experimental section on the LSAT. I thought one section was the experimental section, but it wasn’t. So, all those just tripped me up. But I’m planning to take it again. But the experience I got was honestly invaluable and it was very helpful for me, in general. The process was, honestly, very smooth, and I had no trouble with Varsity Tutors at all. If you need tutoring, that’s a very good place to go. It is pricier, but it’s a really good service.

The tutoring was great but the charges for missed appointments or not cancelling 24hrs in advance are ridiculous. No phone call, text or email reminding of the session. That's how they make extra money. If something happens like a car accident or you suddenly get sick too bad... it's going to cost you. This is like a bank charging overdraft fees. No mercy. Shameful. I hope this makes someone aware of the downside of this company. Never again.

When I used a different tutoring option close to my house, I also did Varsity Tutors at the same time to compare the service. I like Varsity more and decided to stay with them. They are convenient. Tim was so helpful and he moved to get what we needed in time. I have a couple of tutors teaching different kinds of subjects. There were good ones, and there were weird ones, but they helped my kid, Matthew. There was one guy that was teaching him world science and it had to do with history. He was weird but he helped Matthew somehow.
When I called Varsity Tutor, it was one day before his test. The Spanish tutor that I asked via the internet, because we didn't have time to schedule an appointment, was also very helpful. She went through the points, asked Matthew to write an essay and give it to her. She corrected the essay, and he saw his mistakes. That was what could be done at the time, and she did very well on that. Matthew is a very smart kid. When he had problems, it was because he missed one class and he could not follow up with the rest. The tutors would put him updated to the point where the class was, and he could catch up. I'm very satisfied with Varsity Tutors, and every time that I need a tutor, I will look for them. I'm a loyal client and I will totally recommend them. It's very useful and it is a good company.

Varsity Tutors had good reviews and they were able to fit our schedules really easily, so I went with them. We had two different tutors there and both were fantastic. They came to the house to work with my daughter. We did one for SATs and we used them for math. They really worked with her on keeping calm, really looking at the different problems, and seeing exactly what the question is instead of being overwhelmed by the question. Also, a rep from their corporate office followed up every week to see how everything was going, if there were any problems, if everything was fine, and if I needed anything from them. It was really good. I would tell others to take a look at Varsity Tutors and go with them because they're really easy to work with.

Varsity Tutors was the first one that came up in my search and I called them on a Saturday. They picked up the phone so I got signed up immediately and it was very straightforward. My children had a couple of different tutor activities. My 21-year-old had French, which was in person to help him get through level 3 French, and then my two younger kids are doing German online as well and one of the kids is doing Reading in person, and they’ve been able to accommodate it all. Initially, I wanted a German tutor that could come to the house, but we haven’t been able to identify anybody in the area and so Varsity Tutors convinced me to try online. I don’t have high hopes for that ‘cause the kids are young but then a year later, we’re still doing it.
The tutor helps my child boost his confidence in reading. That particular child really likes the one-on-one interaction, and somebody dedicated to sit for two hours a week for reading is a big chunk of time for a 10-year-old. The 21-year-old passed French with flying colors. On the German-French, I grew up with a couple languages and tri-lingual and I think that’s a super important skill so I’m passing it on to my children whose goal is for them to continue to have fun with languages and realize that it’s a huge asset. It’s not necessarily about the grades. It was with French as we had to get through it. The same with the reading as the younger one has to improve, which he has.
But most importantly for me, it’s giving the kids additional confidence that they can get things done when they put their minds to it. It’s been a very good experience, great tutors over time, and a very convenient program. I have recommended them. If you're looking for a tutor for your children, give Varsity Tutors a chance, give them a call.

Also the program to find one on the go never worked and when it worked the guy left on me because his connection was bad. The tutor was awesome. It was an online setup and she was always accessible. Also, she could do the tutoring session early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Moreover, the screen was split that she could pull up my assignment and I could still see what she was doing. That just made it perfect. I was with her for six weeks and I got an A in the subject.
It was really cool that I was given her cell phone number so if I needed to change appointments, I can just immediately text her and tell her if we can push the schedule back an hour. And she would say we could. She was smart as hell, too, 'cause she was so knowledgeable, not only about the subject that she was teaching me, but just about how colleges work and in general. It made it easy to work with her and I would give her cell phone number to other people.

When I had my initial call with Varsity, I told them I needed an in-home tutor, Monday through Thursday between the hours of 3:30-5:30 (every week). The salesperson assured me it would be no problem at all to place the tutor. He informed me that the contract is a 12-month commitment and I will be billed $1700 up front, then $1700 in six months. They were able to place the first tutor and she worked out great last year. This summer she informed me she was no longer going to tutor. I reached out to Varsity about two weeks before school started to let them know we needed to start a new search.
Here’s what’s happened since then: Search was published for 7-10 days and they placed a girl. Scheduled my first session with her and she informed me she’s moving back home and can only do online tutoring. My son is not at the age for online tutoring and he needs one on one attention so that wasn’t going to work. I informed Varsity what happened and they said they’d re-list the job. 2 weeks go by with no response or update. I call Varsity again and ask them what’s going on. They made some “adjustments” and said they’d continue the search.
Another week goes by and finally we get paired with Alex. She can only work 1 day a week. I take it because I’m in need of help and one day is better than none. I am now three at least weeks into the school year. I call again and they said they removed my posting because they placed the tutor. I explain that Alex was only placed for Wednesdays. “Ohhhh, ok we will go ahead and place your job again”.
Another week goes by with no word from Varsity. Then I get an email on August 29 from Varsity. I respond to the email telling them I never agreed to online tutoring and to please refund my money if they can’t place the tutor as contract. Zero response. I call a few days later and ask to speak to a manager. I tell her everything that’s happened. She was apologetic and assured me should would look into my case and figure out what is happening. She said there’s 60+ tutors available in my zip code so it makes no sense why the tutor can’t be placed. She said she’d call me back ASAP.
5 days go by with no callback! I call in again and ask to speak to another manager. Get connected with Virginia. At this point in time I’m 6 weeks into the school year with no tutor and Varsity holding over 59 hours credit in my account and blowing me off. Virginia goes over my case and is open to giving me a refund. She says she’ll call me back after she looks into my history. Another week goes by with no call from Virginia! I call her and leave a message. Days go by and she calls me back, telling me she wants to schedule a call on Monday, September 24. I call her back and leave a message confirming Monday is great. Monday comes with no call from Virginia. I call her Tuesday and leave a message. Still no return call. I call her today and leave another message. No response.
DO NOT spend your money with this company! They over promise and under deliver. I am so extremely disappointed and I can’t believe their refusal to refund my money. They could not place my tutor - plain and simple - so I asked for my money back so I can use it to pay another tutor. I think that’s more than fair! Now we are trying to work with our bank to get our money refunded since no one will rectify the issue.

I called Varsity Tutors and asked a lot of questions. Their concept made a lot of sense so I took the leap and went ahead with them. I have had interactions with my son's tutor by email. Her name was Anna and she always gave really good, detailed notes. My son’s a senior in high school and he takes school seriously, so Anna gave me reports on what things he did well in and the things he needs to improve in. She really taught him to understand how the ACT test is mapped out, how to study for it, and how to pace himself better on those tests. It made him a better test taker overall. My son said it was a great experience, and he’s a very opinionated kid. If he doesn’t like something, he’s gonna tell, but he had nothing but praise for Anna.
Before my son got with Varsity Tutors, his overall test score was 27. In order for him to get some potential scholarship opportunities, we wanna at least get 30. His weaknesses were English and Reading, so he did the tutoring with Anna for those two subjects. With the last test he took, he got a 32 in English and then a 31 in Reading. His overall score went from 27 to 30. I was thrilled with that and my son was very happy to get to that point, too. Varsity Tutors was definitely great for the ACT test.

I'm a single mom who works full-time. I needed to be tutored. Varsity Tutors reached out to me quicker than its competitors and had things in place. They made the liaison seamless and they sent me reminders to go in there and do what I needed to do to get started and select a tutor. When it came to choosing Danielle, it was a no-brainer. Her resume is not ridiculous, so it was wonderful. It was a six-week accelerated advanced Calculus course in the summer. It was six weeks of hell where I got a whole semester of Calculus being crammed in. Then, towards the end at about week four or five, I learned that I was gonna have a major surgery and I had to get the course done.
I was down and had a really intense recovery. I tried to learn the material and get my body to cooperate enough with me, so I can go in and take my exam. Danielle was really flexible in trying to help accommodate me, wait for me, and deal with me with regard to that because there were some times I couldn’t even sit and do the tutoring. There were times I had to stand the whole time and we would be tutoring for two or three-hour sessions. Sitting wasn't an option and that was uncomfortable. She would be really patient if I needed to take a five-minute break and we would come back.
I also handled the finances at my church, which was a big deal, so sometimes, we would tutor for an hour on Sundays, then I would have to take care of business and she would tutor again. We were doing two a day and she would do groundwork, research the class, and dig in and see what was coming. She would be telling me, “Well, this is coming up. So, we need to focus on this.” It was more than just tutoring the actual material because she was really teaching me the material. She was taking the course for me, too, when it got harder because she would figure out what was next.
My personal life was getting in the way, so there were some things that I had to neglect. There was some homework I can't focus on and we were trying to nail with it, and that’s what we did and I got an A. We would calculate, “Well, what do we need to do to do this?” “Yes, this homework is not getting done. We're gonna do the work to learn them.” I took time in hours in having to go through it and we focused on that and drove the study guide so I can do well in the test, and I really did.
It was an incredible experience. It was very expensive, but it was very worth it. Danielle was incredible and I couldn’t imagine how she could be any better. I passed Calculus. I would tell my friends and family to get their credit card and worry about it later. I didn’t just pass, I actually got an A. My professor was highly impressed with me. In sum, I was able to be prepared because Varsity was there. I was able to accomplish the work because I had them to back me up.

Last year, I enrolled my oldest daughter, Sophia (13) with Varsity Tutors in order to get help with French and 7th grade Math. Sophia worked with Alexandra ** on French and with Rahul ** on math to include: pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, etc. Sophia absolutely loved working with both of them. She looked forward to her sessions and actually would come home asking me, “ Mom, when am I working with Rahul again?” or “When is my next French session?” When Sophia needed help or had a test she would ask, “Mom, please call Alexandra or (Rahul)… I need help fast!” I mean, when does a kid really look forward to doing algebra? When does a child genuinely laugh, smile and enjoy learning these tougher subjects during sessions that can last up to 1½ hours? But this is how Sophia responded to her online lessons with Varsity Tutors.
As a parent, I love Varsity Tutors and the teachers/tutors they assign because of their flexibility, the quality of the teaching/tutoring they offer my child, the positive attitude of the instructors and outstanding customer service the company offers. I was also impressed with the wide range of tutoring options they are able to provide both, online and with in-person tutoring sessions.
This year I added my other two daughters to the Varsity Tutors’ roster. Melania 11 and Victoria 10 will be getting help with math on an ‘as needed basis;’ and, eventually, Melania will work with Alexandra as soon as she starts French. But our primary objective for this year was to get an online vocal coach for all three girls and to arrange online Clarinet lessons for Melania and Victoria. The girls have been taking piano and violin for several years, but are just now beginning the clarinet. So with full packed schedules across the board, our only option was an online class on Sunday afternoons – and Varsity Tutors delivered!!!!
Varsity Tutors assigned Lauren ** and Paula ** to help with vocal lessons; and, they found an amazing musician, Chris ** to work on the Clarinet every Sunday. In just a few sessions, Paula and Lauren helped all three girls revamp their vocal and breathing techniques, compile an updated repertoire of songs for their upcoming auditions and helped them with vocal presentation/performance. With that, Melania did end up booking a role in Matilda last week scheduled to open at the Walnut Street Theatre during the upcoming holiday season. And as for Clarinet…..well, by the end of the first Clarinet lesson, my youngest was playing ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’. Now that’s amazing! They literally went from learning how to assemble a clarinet to playing the G Scale to playing their first song!Efficient, Effective, Convenient, Flexible, Positive, Encouraging, Helpful and Worth Every Penny – that’s Varsity Tutors!

I'm an older adult plus experiencing some difficulties, and he's been helping me do that and making me feel that anybody can learn a language and it's not a bad thing if I'm an adult 'cause I already know a whole lot more. He's patient and he waits for me to respond. He knows that there are a lot of people who have a trepidation learning a new language and so he just reminds that it's not a straight path and there's a lot that you have to do so just take it forward. For anybody who's afraid to study online using all the technology, both Varsity Tutors and my tutor made me feel much more at ease with it. That's a big deal.

So, she’s relatable for them than our former tutor, who was a school teacher. She enjoys her sessions with Ivanna way more because the environment is a little more relaxed and comfortable.
Ivanna helped my daughter to be a little more successful in Mathematics. We’re not yet through the first semester, so we’re still seeing how things go. But so far, my daughter shows a comfort level with the math that she’s learning more so than she has in the past. So far, we’ve been extremely satisfied with our one-to-one experience. Varsity Tutors looked appealing and the rep I spoke to was very thorough. Varsity seemed like a really good fit. I can find a tutor that works for me, which is really helpful. It is also better having the option to change tutors because if it doesn’t seem right with a tutor I'm working with, I can choose another person, which I ended up doing. There is flexibility for me and for them. The first tutor I had was brilliant, but I could not understand the way he was talking to me. So it's nice to have the power to change my tutor because if I have a tutor come to my house and it isn’t really working, there can be some weird tension if I see the tutor again.
With Varsity Tutors, however, the tutoring being online, there has never been any hard feelings with the tutors. I had Terry and she was the most personable person. She talked about the most boring subject such as the LSAT but she taught the lesson in a way that made it easy for me to sit for two hours. She could tell if I was drifting and we would pick up the pace with something else. She was very on it with me. I have used Varsity Tutors for a year and a half and I've had a really good experience with them the entire time. I definitely recommend Varsity Tutors to anyone looking for a tutor.

They assigned him a new tutor right away but could not get the first tutor to return the work papers. Varsity Tutors said they would get them back right away but did not. With his class coming to an end their answer to me was that he was an independent contractor and it wasn't their responsibility.
I called and asked for a manager at least 7 times and was put off each time. Each time I asked for a call back from a manager and NEVER received a return call. What was even more insulting was the fact that they were still retaining that tutor for other students as well as the fact that the tutor returned the work paper via email while my son was taking his final exam. When I called them to voice my dissatisfaction I was told "What more do you want? You got the papers back." Good luck if you have any problems or concerns.

Varsity tutors reached out to me after my review on here and helped me out with my issues. They were very willing to do what they could to make it better. They refunded me my unused hours and also set me up with a in person tutor to cater to my needs! Much more pleased.

I purchased a large pack of hours a while back. Every single tutor I used read out of a book and was extremely confused while teaching. Many left in the middle of a session to grab something unneeded for the lesson. Multiple tutors were used trying to find a better and more educated fit. Every tutor used was unsuccessful. We called multiple times explaining our issues and we were met with either a voicemail and no callback or an unreasonable reply. When I called customer service again to explain the issue, I was told not even a partial refund would be allowed for the unused hours, which consequently means my family lost thousands of dollars. I was told the hours couldn't even be renewed unless I bought a package that cost around $800. The women I was on the phone with treated me as if I was at fault. Would not recommend to anyone, all they want is your money.

Varsity Tutors escalated my issue, and we were able to come to a fair resolution. The way in which it was resolved made me believe that this is a good company who genuinely cares about their customer. I will call them again if I end up needing tutoring in the future.

I called Varsity Tutors for my son to use as he was taking an online class. I communicated with them that the timeframe of the class could take several months and if he didn't end up needing the help, I would get a full refund. He didn't end up needing the tutor and now they are not giving me my refund stating that I am well out of the refund timeframe. I'm not sure why they had me pay upfront knowing that I wasn't sure when the class would start. I am shocked as I had been told this was great company. Not only did they not give me my money back, but they were unhelpful during the process. I was told this was their busiest time of year because school was starting and so they couldn’t help me with my issue. The tutoring may have been good, but if these are their business practices, I’m not sure I want them tutoring my child.

I was in graduate business school and I just got a really good sense more of what I read than who I talked to. I spoke to somebody on a Sunday and it was a knowledgeable person. I'm really impressed because I wasn't determined or really set on, "This will be who I go with." I called from Varsity's website and a young man answered the call and he spoke intelligently about what Varsity can do and I bought right on the spot.
My latest tutor has a Ph.D. in Chemistry and her name is Keturah. She teaches at Trinity University in San Antonio. I had asked Varsity to match me up with somebody that's really knowledgeable. It was primarily in a PowerPoint mode and a PowerPoint software, where I needed to go beyond bullet points and verbiage. I needed somebody that could really navigate websites and navigate either other online documentation, online logos, online descriptions of what I wanted to put in the PowerPoint, and she was able to do that.
What impressed me the most is Keturah very quickly grasped what I was trying to do. I told her overall, “I've gotta present this to a board and I've gotta present this to clients so, it's gonna have to be developed and designed for a very high-level presentation,” and she got that. She very quickly got us back to the point where we needed to be. We didn't start over anywhere. I'm not talking about adding a couple of words and a bullet point. In my judgment, these were some pretty high things with some video and some moving pieces and transition stuff, and I was impressed with that. Varsity did exactly what they said they were gonna do. I didn't idly sit and stand by waiting for them to get to me and they met their own timelines.

Varsity Tutors guaranteed customs with the satisfaction for their tutors, otherwise money will refund for the guarantee. The first tutor we did not satisfy, and they let us try second one. The second tutor we cannot understand her spoke English. But we still gave company opportunity try to one more time, unfortunately, the third tutor answer my son question is wrong and try to hide wrong answer.
Now I'm asking the refund for the left 10.30 hour and we already been wasted previous hours. They told us over 30 days and passed the refund time. Is this fair to us? This is not product with 30 days refund policy. This is service. We have a patient and nice to the company. From beginning to now, we gave them a several chances to find a good professional tutor to fit us. Finally, you cannot find, it is your responsibility if you can't find quality tutor, you should give a custom money back no matter what. I felt this company is business cheating. They lost their credibility.

I previously submitted a review regarding a not so great experience with Varsity Tutors. After posting the review I received a call the same day from Varsity Tutors. Not only did I receive a call the same day I also received a call weekly for several weeks from Virginia who helped me better understand the process and how Varsity Tutors could provide the service that my husband and I was looking for. So we finally decided to move forward with the process.
The tutor that was paired with my daughter was a perfect match. My husband and I as well as our daughter were really impressed with the service that Ms. ** provided. She was very professional. She also provided us with weekly updates. As promised Ms. ** was able to assist my daughter with the completion of an awesome college essay! I was so impressed with the service that we received from Ms. **. Varsity Tutors was recommended to a family member who is now receiving weekly tutoring session for Math.

I was on Google and Varsity looked like they had the best reviews. Everything was great. My tutor, Landon, was awesome and by the end of it, I count him as a friend. He helped me a lot. I had a Chemistry professor who was from Russia and I couldn't understand his accent at all. I would have failed that class because there were four kids in the front of the class who understood everything and he was going their speed. Nobody else understood anything and I was so far behind. I definitely would have failed that class but I got either a B+ or an A- in it because of Landon. He was awesome. I'd definitely refer others to Varsity Tutors. It's been a great experience all around.

In the past, I have used tutors from different sources. They were private usually. With Varsity Tutors, I appreciate the variety of expertise. I also liked the selection of different subjects you could choose from. We weren't just stuck with paying for one service, and then not necessarily needing all the hours you paid for it. Furthermore, I definitely loved that I could learn and be tutored online because I would usually have to drive an hour to go see my tutor because they lived on the other side of town. The tutors I worked with were great about answering my specific questions. I know sometimes when I’ve seen private tutors in the past, it was difficult explaining exactly the approach I needed them to take to the problem because of how we were taught in class.
The tutors at Varsity did a good job of sticking to what was in my textbook and what was in my notes and following the same kind of approach that I was wanting. So, I didn't necessarily get taught two different things. They were also very patient and communicative. Varsity Tutors is the most convenient tutoring service that I've been offered, but their downside is the cost and the fact that you have to buy so many hours in bulk instead of paying for one session at a time. The minimum amount of hours we had to buy were nine, and I didn't end up using all of that. Overall, I had a good experience with Varsity Tutors. I would definitely recommend it but with provisions.

I needed someone quick and after a search on Google, I found Varsity Tutors. I do coding and I have work that I need to turn in to this camp that I'm doing. So far, I've been working with the same guy. I let him know what I need to work on as well as the issues I'm having with the assignment. We then go through it and whatever concepts come out that seem to be really challenging or need more attention, he'll elaborate on them. He is also really good about coming up with little modules for us to course out and go through. With the sporadic schedule of the assignments and me being busy, it's helpful to have him for a bit of an introduction to some of the concepts because they're not always thoroughly covered in class. I'm using him as a tool to either get ahead or situate myself so that when I get to class, I can understand more of what's happening. And I've made some incremental progress since I worked with him.
A lot of the people in my boot camp class have degrees in what we're doing but I'm super virgin to coding so I really have to hustle to get it together with this class. I wanna do this for work, so I need to know what I'm doing. I'm really trying to get ahead on the assignments and be able to replicate them once I'm in class. And this Varsity tutor really knows his stuff and he tries to prepare ahead of time. So I appreciate that a lot. varsity has a really good service and I would recommend them to students, depending on what they're doing. But for coding, they should definitely use Varsity.

When you're an online student, you're teaching yourself and you are definitely on your own. I was struggling in my Physics class during the summer. I was up one night and I was frustrated. So I decided to google and tried to find a tutor in my area, and I called different ones. When I woke up that morning, someone from Varsity called me. I told her what my dilemma was and she assured me that they could help me. She gave me a pay rate and within 24 hours, they had assigned me a tutor.
Jasper was fantastic. My session was about 90 minutes long and I was very comfortable with him. We interacted via Camcor. We could look at each other and he had a board put up. He would write the problem on the board and break it down so I could see what I was not understanding. It was fantastic because I'm a visual person and I could actually see the problem. Another thing is that the tutors can break a problem down but in order for someone to learn, you've got to know what elements you struggle with. The student has to be able to ask questions. When Jasper and I got together, I would write the problem down and tell him what I was struggling with. Then he would write, say and show me exactly how to attack the problem. It worked out for me. I really understood it because of the way he explained everything and everything came on like a light bulb.
He was very patient, kind and smart. He went out of his way to make sure I understood the concepts. He even gave me his phone number but I never took that for granted. I'm a very good note-taker and whenever I felt like the area was where I was struggling in, I would refer back to my notes. I never had to really call him but once because I was conflicted with a problem and he broke it down to me over the phone. He got me caught up and as a matter of fact, we were so caught up that I was pretty much done before the end of the last class. I came out of that subject with a B. I did well and I understood better. I was very pleased. On top of that, the people at customer service were fantastic. We're living in a society where most of the customer service stink. But Varsity was right there if I needed anything. They were very friendly and I liked that.

If you are considering this service buy the smallest package you can and go from there, do not get sucked into their large packages! If you do not use the hours you will not get your money back unless you cancel within 30 days (which considering it sometimes takes a week or two to schedule your tutor is not enough time at all). I bought the 15 hour package, and used 4 sessions, then found no further use for the service. Tried to get my money back several months later and was told that I was “past the point of receiving monetary compensation” and that I could only use the hours for other tutoring of which I have no use. Also any time a session starts you already used an hour and a half (not 1 hour).
I don't think I made use of the full hour and a half even once but still got credited. Not unreasonable but at 78$/session very pricey. All of the information I received could have been found online for free (Stack Exchange, Yahoo Answers, Google, etc.) and I honestly got more help from office hours and my classmates. Overall, you’re better off finding a local tutor through Craigslist or another local service. It will most likely be significantly cheaper, all compensation will go to the tutor, and you pay per session instead of paying in advance. Or better yet work with other students in the class and go to office hours (the best things in life are free). This company will try to get you sign up for more than you need just to get your money. The tutor wasn't bad, but wasn't incredibly helpful either (at least not 70+$ per session helpful). I basically got sucked into paying over $700 for information that could been found online for free. Don't be like me.

However, they continue to call me all the time. Sometimes every day. Sometimes more than once a day. I cannot get them to stop calling me.

Pat is the perfect tutor for my son Harry. His brother, George, also had a tutor and Huday was perfect for him. Huday is a top kid who was awesome for my son who had no disability. But for Harry, I specifically asked for someone who has been a teacher for a long time. I needed experiences because of his disability. Varsity Tutors listened and luckily, Pat was available. She's very familiar with disability so that has been so helpful. And Harry loved her. She's got a great sense of humor and she totally understands him. Harry was in a session school and he was never really taught Math. So Pat had to go back and fill in. She's made Harry more positive about Math. He feels like he is actually gonna learn it, which was what we needed. Then she always says, "You haven't learned this yet." Pat is unbelievable and she is gonna be able to get him from point A to point B.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! The tutors they hire are completely unreliable. I purchased 50 hours for my 8 year old son for summer tutoring. The first tutor quit after 4 sessions completely out of the blue. I still have some of her things at my house. She said she had too many students to handle, but sent me email today asking for me to be a reference for a nanny job. The next tutor was great, my 8 year old son really liked her and she promised to continue with him once school started, and now I received a call that she has quit because she is a teacher and school is starting back up.
I am so frustrated and upset! I have used 10 hours of my 50 purchased because of the lapse in between tutors, and weeks they needed off because of this or that. I expected three hours a week for the 11 weeks of summer (some left over if needed during school). I feel like I completely failed my son, he did not get the prep he needed to start third grade. Now I have 40 hrs. left to use and they will not issue a refund! Refunds only in first 30 days. I only saw a tutor three times in the first 30 days. Even though this is no fault of mine or my sons. Pick a company for your child that offers a refund if you're unsatisfied, or only buy 5 hours at a time so you don't get screwed.

It prepared her for her upcoming pre-med classes.

My daughter has had help with Physics and the tutor she's had from Varsity Tutors was wonderful. If we need tutoring this next school year in the same subject, we plan on using him again. My daughter is now more confident in her ability to be able to work with the conception of problems. We've used a different tutoring option before and Varsity Tutors was better in terms of the quality of their tutors. I would recommend Varsity Tutors.

In some of the other online tutors that I researched, the cost was more and with Varsity Tutors, it was less. Also, there were very positive reviews that I read so we chose them. Once we decided that this was the route that we were gonna go, we reached out to them and they gave us their pricing. Then, we picked the package that fit us and they set us up and paired my son with a tutor based on his personality. It was a very smooth process. We knew that we would be having two-hour sessions every week and Alex would send us an appointment reminder. Also, he really worked well with my son. Their personalities meshed, which made it easier, and he was very flexible in his schedule and meeting with my son’s schedule. My son plays sports and work two jobs and Alex was very willing to work around that.
Alex decided each week what they would work on. They started out with English and he would assign my son some practice test. My son would take two to three English practice test untimed for a couple of weeks and then he would do some timed ones. And then during the session, they would go over those questions and work on the ones that he missed so that he understood why he missed them. They selected a good tutor and my son had great results.

My son got more encouragement through Varsity and little more feedback than other tutoring options we've used before. He enjoyed his learning experience and he felt that it was worth his time, which I found very encouraging given his age that he would be interested in spending more time studying. And he was motivated to set up future tutoring appointments all on his own without me having to tell him to do so. So, he got an A on his AP Chemistry finals with help from Varsity Tutors and scored well enough on the AP exam that he can opt out of General Chemistry at next year at college. Also, he raised his ACT score four points. It's better than anything we’ve done.

I was very pleased with Varsity Tutors. My son is difficult to deal with. He was getting better as he gets older, but he has a struggle with learning. He’s a high-functioning, autistic kid with ADHD, so it makes him a little difficult to teach, but I wanted to give him the best opportunity there was. I searched on the internet and reading some of the reviews about Varsity Tutors, they sounded like a really good place and I thought I’d give them a try. We had a total of three tutors. I was amazed with the first tutor, Steven. He was able to interact, speak and teach my son. He had a way about him that he’d go down to Jacob’s level and he made the sessions fun. My son learned a tremendous amount.
On the other hand, I didn’t see much care from the second tutor. He would set up an appointment and then cancel at the last minute, and then set up an appointment and not show up. So, I contacted Varsity Tutors and told them I wanted somebody else. They hooked me up with another gentleman who was just as outstanding, if not more than the first one. I really enjoy having them. They were down-to-earth people that could relate to Jacob's problems because I found out that they had issues learning, too. One of them wants to become an engineer and the other one wants to become a doctor now. And it simply made me aware that they were so good. Also, both of them came from a long distance, so they’ve had a long drive to get up to our place.
My son's grades improved. He does not have a little understanding of the new ways of doing math, especially when it comes to algebra which he is really struggling with. He also had a problem with memorization, which is a key component of any type of math. He couldn’t memorize 1x1 to 12x12, which is an intricate part of math, but the tutors helped him through trial and error practicing that, and now he can do it instantaneously. Also, when he had problems with other subjects, they were able to jump in and help him with that.
My only issue that I have with Varsity Tutors was when I tried to get the third tutor. I called and spoke to them quite a few times, and it didn’t seem like they were working as hard as they did when they first tried to get the first two tutors. Time seemed to be ticking by without having a tutor, but overall, I was greatly satisfied. I still have hours with them, but I wanted to let it go this summer. I will pick them back up again in a couple weeks and let them tutor my son again. I do not regret getting Varsity Tutors. I went to everybody I knew around me and told them I was so happy with them.
Reviewed July 24, 2018
I’ve used other tutors in the past and Varsity Tutors is good considering my son had passed all of his exams last year. And he had not passed on his exams in the previous years. Somebody who could get my kid to pass his exams is nothing short of a miracle, and his tutor named Josh is great. My son still hates education and anything that has to do with it but the tutor is a requirement on my part that he had to have and he could have cared less either way. I’m very happy with the experience and I hope that it gave him a good enough foundation. But if I need tutors again this coming school year, we’re gonna keep Varsity Tutors in mind.
