How TestMasters works

TestMasters offers a wide variety of learning formats, including classroom courses, live online classes, on-demand courses, private tutoring, custom group courses and self-study materials through its online bookstore.

Available formats and whether instruction is offered in person or online depend on your location and the exam you’re studying for. Online courses may be live, prerecorded (with the option to pause and rewind lessons) or both. Private tutoring may be available as a complete course or by the hour, depending on the exam.

You’ll begin by selecting an exam and learning format, then registering online. Some options, including certain private tutoring programs, require you to call TestMasters or submit a contact form to enroll.

The course schedule, included materials and access period depend on the exam and learning format. For example, the on-demand GMAT course provides four months of access and includes a course manual, an official GMAT guide, practice-exam feedback and online essay grading. The live online ACT course follows a set schedule of 10 three-hour classes.

TestMasters services

TestMasters' services include exam preparation for a wide variety of students, from grade school to grad school, plus professional engineering exam prep.

Types of instruction

TestMasters offers several different types of instruction, with availability dependent upon your location:

  • In-person classroom courses
  • Live online courses
  • On-demand courses
  • Private one-on-one courses
  • Hourly tutoring
  • Custom group courses
  • Self-study books and manuals

Custom group courses allow schools, companies and other groups to choose the course schedule and location. These courses usually require a minimum number of participants: For example, GMAT and GRE custom courses require at least 15 students, and PE Civil custom courses require at least 25 engineers.

Students enrolled in private courses or tutoring can work with their instructor to choose a schedule.

TestMasters instructors

TestMasters instructors go through a selection and training process before teaching and receive ongoing training afterward. Its GMAT and FE instructors have years of experience and repeatedly take the exams they teach.

For some comprehensive courses covering multiple subject areas, TestMasters may assign several instructors, with each teaching in their area of expertise. SAT and ACT students may have three or four instructors during a course rather than one instructor teaching every section.

Still have questions?

Is TestMasters worth it?

Yes, TestMasters can be worth it if you’re looking for test preparation for yourself or your child. It covers a wide variety of academic admissions and professional engineering exams. Its scheduled, self-paced, online, in-person, group and one-on-one options accommodate different learning preferences.

Engineering students may find TestMasters particularly useful because it offers college admissions test preparation as well as FE and PE exam courses. This means you may be able to use the same test prep company from college admissions through your professional engineering licensing process.

Available formats vary by exam and location, so not every student will have access to every type of instruction. Guarantees apply only to qualifying courses and come with attendance, homework or other eligibility requirements. If an eligible student doesn’t achieve the guaranteed result, TestMasters generally provides a free repeat or refresher course rather than a refund.

The worst service. After finishing my course, I requested extended access to the videos for just one more month. I completed the course several months ago, and they told me I would need to pay for all the months that had passed since the course ended — even though I had no access to the videos during that time. This is absurd. Why should I pay for something I didn’t use and never had access to?

I had to reschedule my exam due to health reasons, and despite explaining my situation, the support team showed zero empathy and eventually just stopped replying to my emails. Now, with less than 15 days until my exam, I still don’t have access to the videos. I’m willing to pay for one month of access, but they’re demanding payment for over 6 months — time during which I had no access at all. Extremely disappointed with the lack of flexibility and support.

In December, I purchased an ACT in-class review course at a discounted rate. I understand that I had to cancel it before the end of the current SAT class that my son was taking in December. We had every intention of taking the in-class ACT review course so that he could take the actual test this summer before he started applying to colleges until COVID hit. When we realized the severity of this pandemic and it was not getting any better, only worse, we decided to cancel the ACT review course on April 17 and ask for a refund.

I emailed Testmasters twice before I received a reply of sorry but we cannot give you a refund. I proceeded to call the establishment on 4/24/2020 and spoke with a young man who said that they would not refund the money even though we are going through a global pandemic. I told him that I did not feel comfortable sending my child into a classroom situation due to COVID exposure and closure of all schools in our area. I also do not feel comfortable sending him to take the actual ACT test this summer due to possible COVID spread and exposure. Also, there were several ACT testing centers that cancelled their test in June.

In April, we still were not sure of whether they would continue with their testing schedule anyways. Either way I did not feel comfortable sending my child into a testing situation or classroom situation with COVID spreading at an alarming rate. The young man on the phone told me that I could use the credit to purchase tutoring for subject areas that my son needed help in. I had until December to use these services. At the time, my son had all A’s for his junior year and I did not see the need for tutoring at this time. I did ask if I could “gift “ this ACT review course to a friend and their reply was yes but at full price which does not help me out at all.

I am not even sure if I could find someone that would want it but I was trying to be reasonable and work something out. I am very disappointed in Testmasters response to my situation. These are unusual circumstances beyond our control. I am not willing to risk exposure to my son and our family and was hoping that Testmasters would do the reasonable thing by refunding our monies for services that will not be rendered.

I took an LSAT course with TestMasters in October of 2019 in NYC with zero prior test-prep experience after receiving a recommendation from my older brother. The course instructor Dave ** was very engaging, knowledgeable, and willing to provide help when needed. Further, Testmasters offers materials online with recorded lessons and explanations to practice problems from the founder Robin Singh, and gives 24-7 access to instructors if the explanations aren't fully satisfying. While helpful, I found Robin Singh's method of teaching to be slightly abrasive and demanding. Additionally his methods for solving logic games were not all that helpful. What's more, Testmasters only grants access to its website up until the test date, which in this case was in the end of November; this was definitely not enough time.

My older brother assured me that I should stick with it based on his past experience, so I renewed my access to the course, which costs an extra $750. Unfortunately, by the time my access expired once again, I found I had mastered only 2 out of 3 of the topic areas (logical reasoning and reading comprehension). I was still scoring around 50% on the logic games section, which was severely hindering my score. I started doing some research to find a solution to my struggles. It turns out that Odyssey offers a logic games book with online video explanations, and guarantees a perfect logic games score or your money back.

At the time of this review, I have not taken the LSAT so I can't validate whether it will lead to a perfect score, but my timing has gotten remarkably faster. Testmasters does offer unlimited access renewals to the website but at a price. The second renewal costs $350 and the third costs $450, which seems completely ludicrous. It goes without saying that I did not review my access a second time. Overall, the best way to surmise my experience with Testmasters is that it didn't get me to the place I needed to be at score-wise, and it was prohibitively expensive.

Before choosing Testmasters I did a lot of research into different companies and found that testmasters was more affordable compared to Kumon, Kaplan, and Princeton Review. My score improved significantly as promised by their guarantee. If you are struggling with the content on the test this course is great to help improve overall understanding. My son took a 2-month break from test prep after the initial 3 month study period. When we went to renew, we were told we had to pay for the past 2 months as well as going forward. Multiple attempts to reason and even connect with a supervisor were all turned down - no one was home. I am very disappointed with this dishonest company.

Hi everyone. Be aware of these kinds of companies. I would not suggest TestMasters to anyone. I have a very bad experience. No product quality guarantee, no customer support service. Don't waste your money.

PE Civil Engineering exam review - Too bad you cannot leave less than one star review on this product. This “review” is apparently not tailored to your specific discipline at all. Testmasters will not tell you this. You will receive 7 to 8 volumes of study material when you only need about 4 to 5 of them at most. You will waste your valuable time studying the extra material that you don’t need and take unneeded and worthless references to the exam if you do not plan for yourself. From what I have heard from Testmasters, it does not matter what depth exam you choose and the review prepares you for all the depth exams (at least for civil).

Also, the “guarantee to pass” is bogus. Granted, it is easy to register to retake the course if you do not pass. However, as I was informed from Testmasters, you will not be given any additional study material, practice problems, practice workshops or instructional videos. Per Testmasters “you just study and review the areas you did not perform well on”. Basically, they only care that you pass to help their ratings.

My question to Testmasters was “how will reviewing and studying the same lectures and material I studied the first time when I failed the exam help with the repeat?” I watched all the videos, completed all the workshops and worked all the problems. I spent well over 200 hours on these lectures and problems. I even asked Testmasters about the second volumes that were provided for certain subjects that did not include lecture videos. They responded with “these were extra practice to be done on your own time”. Newsflash, all of this studying is on my own time. Also, many of these questions pertained to a number of subjects that, as mentioned before, did not even pertain to my selected discipline.

Testmasters worked for me in passing the FE but I do not recommend this course for the PE. There is little direction in your discipline and they send you everything expecting you to figure out what to study. For example, I wasted over two weeks of study time on the second volume on structures, geotechnical, transportation and construction lectures/problems that were not relevant to my selected discipline. These volumes also wasted space that could have been used for water quality and environment references.

By the way, if you are taking the WR and Enviro exam, the course does not prepare you for water quality and you only need about 10% of the transportation review (horizontal and vertical cures, first volume). The transportation and geotechnical instructors are great. The structural instructor is good but you do not need most of it for WR and Enviro. However, he is 10 times the resource for construction engineering as well. Don’t even waste your time with the first volume of construction videos. Just work the problems and review the solutions (this guy is terrible).

Do not waste your time on the construction lectures if you have the same instructor I did. He rambles off problems and solutions with little to no explanation on how they were derived. Construction was the weakest review lecture. Hydraulics and hydrology was the second weakest subjects. It is not easy to understand them and I do not recall one of the questions they referenced as a “must learn” being on the exam.

Testmasters needs significant improvement to be worth the $2,000 price tag. Their “guarantee to pass” is weak at best as they are not accountable if you do not pass after repeating the same lectures and material you covered the first time you did not pass. As stated above, they do not provide additional materials to reinforce your knowledge in your “weak areas”. Knowing what I do know, I would take another course, and still may, from other resources other than Testmasters based on my most recent experience.
