I had two grandkids that went to Sylvan. One needed help with reading and my other granddaughter was in every area. With my oldest granddaughter, they helped her with phonics, the sounding of the letters and putting letters together. For my youngest, it was repetition because she was not retaining anything that she was learning. It's a little pricey, but Sylvan is a great place for your kids to go to get the extra help that they need. We had a great experience. My grandkids loved it. They liked going.

My granddaughter, whom at the time was a 1st grader, was being in her reading due to Covid. Her teacher HIGHLY recommended Sylvan Learning Center. I trusted her better judgement, and was not disappointed. My granddaughter started attend Sylvan at the Downey location June 2023. Her reading level has increased tremendously! Sylvan has not only helped my granddaughter increase in her reading ability, but has given her a new found confidence in herself!

Sylvan Learning was great for my daughter, and she enjoyed it. She's a strange child. She just entered third grade, and she was doing fourth grade reading and math. She wasn't there to catch up. She was just there because she's a nerd in school. She comes out, explains things to me, and says things that make sense. We only did eight weeks, then Labor Day hit, and we have been reevaluated since. Sylvan Learning is expensive, and that's fine, but it’s also great for people who can't afford it who are generally the people who need help to be able to afford to go to things like this.

We were with Mathnasium before, and Sylvan is better. My sons preferred the program. They learned better. When we first switched, my son was failing math, and the Sylvan tutor helped bring math up from an F to a B. I appreciated the personalized attention that my children received, and I saw the almost immediate improvement in both their study habits and their comprehension of the material. It was also easy to schedule, make changes, and coordinate.

I had three kiddos go this summer. For two of them, Sylvan focused on Math and ELA. For the third kiddo, they focused on spelling. The tutor helped significantly for all three kids. They had a positive experience and demonstrated an improvement in test scores from when they started and when they ended. But it would be nice if there was an online option to make scheduling a bit easier. Other than that, I recommend Sylvan.

We focused on Reading. My child started with the fundamentals of sight words. Each time, we see a different tutor. Sometimes we get the same one. Some tutors are more than others. I hope they can be consistent and have just one person working with my child.

I've told a few people that Sylvan is a good spot. It's different but I appreciate it because my child needs it, and it's working for her. She needed reading, has some speech issues early on. And I have her on the IEP. She is making good progress, even in just the two months that she has been there. Sylvan communicates well. I also like that they use the pre-data collection, seeing where the child is at prior to them starting. It's closer to what they use in the actual school system. So, it helps for getting that improvement that we wanna see.

$60 an hour is too high. If they are working with my son on his comprehension, why does it cost so much when the only thing they are doing is helping him understand what he's reading. For 10 weeks, $3,500 is too much for how the economy is going. They are also asking for supplies to help other students. The setup is horrible. They don't even have computers. If I have to do it again, I'll go to somebody else. I don't think it's worth my money.
Hi Tawana. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We are sorry to hear that you’ve had a poor experience with us. At Sylvan, we want every family to know we care, and would appreciate the opportunity to work with you directly to both provide you an update on your son and to work on a solution to make things right. Someone from our team will be contacting you to discuss this situation and possible solutions with you.

They're helping my child with reading comprehension, math, and some writing skills. She's enjoying it. She said it's fun and she likes it. I've seen improvement in her confidence. I also like that it's only so many students per teacher and they have time to really dig in deep with the student. The manager has been awesome too. She keeps in check with us and makes sure to be coming. She's a very sweet person. All of the teachers are knowledgeable as well. They let me know the things that they're working on with her and we communicate very well. I would recommend Sylvan.

The pandemic happened when my son was in kindergarten. That really hurt him. We had to take him out of public school and put him in a private school. My experience with Sylvan has been excellent. My son loves going there. Communicating with the tutors works very well.

Sylvan has been around for a long time and seems to have a good course of study of what they're gonna go over with the kids. I had a friend who used them in the past and she had a good rapport with them. So, I knew it was going to be a good experience. My daughter goes to tutoring three times a week and has been in the program for about three months. She goes in the evenings during the week and on Saturdays and are focusing on Math and Writing. She seems to like Sylvan and is making a lot of progress. She seems enthusiastic to go or she's more enthused when she gets done. Sylvan is a good place to bring my son. Also, when I enrolled my son there, they have one-on-one tutorial. I've seen some great results with him. Now, he can read good and knows rhyming words. The tutors are very patient. Knowing my son, he tends to lose attention but I see that he is learning a lot from them and I would like to commend the team and all the instructors. They make learning fun. My son likes to go to Sylvan to get some toys. He has a friend from football and I told them I enrolled my son to Sylvan.

My daughter goes to public school and it is a good public school but some of the teachers don't have the extra training or skill to deal with certain questions or tutoring needs that the students may have. That could be a problem, whereas Sylvan is trained for this. They offer SAT prep at her school but it wasn't enough. It was for a day or two, whereas she's getting SAT prep for the whole summer with Sylvan. She's getting Math help and she's feeling a lot more comfortable in Math. She has an IEP. I noticed that her confidence has grown and she looks forward to going to Sylvan every time we go.
I brought her to Sylvan for Math and SAT prep so she can retake the SAT. She doesn't approach it with as much anxiety because she used to have so much anxiety doing Math. And they gave her permission to get the answer wrong. It's okay and we can do it again. There's no rush. She's comfortable and relaxed. She has problems with focusing sometimes and attention, but Sylvan manages to help bring her back to what she needs to do. They are very skilled because I studied how they interact with other children.
My daughter has been going to Sylvan for four months now and she never said she doesn’t feel like it. It's your kid. You could see and tell a difference, and I noticed the confidence. We're still working on it but she's come a long way. I’m very positive that this will be something that will last a lifetime. Sylvan is expensive but I'd rather pay now and empty my pockets. It's a pretty penny and I see why. So, I'm looking at this whole experience as a reward and an investment for her future and her self-esteem. It's worth every bit of it. You don't have to like math, but at least accept that you need it. And I'm so happy I brought her here. I'm relieved.

It's been a great experience with Sylvan, from the initial time going, to my son being tested. He's had good experiences with the teachers teaching him. He is taking Reading and Math. He had to go to summer school. So, we started him at the end of the school year, and some of his test scores from the end of the school year have improved. He was in a situation where he could have been retained, but he did show improvement both in his Reading and Math test scores that allowed him to be promoted to the 5th grade. He's not crazy about going to Sylvan He does enjoy his treats after he does well. He's very aware of the instructors. He's very vocal on someone being able to understand him and give him the opportunity to work it out himself. Sylvan's customer service has always been A+. Whenever we went, everyone is so helpful.

My son is about to be in second grade and this is the second month that he's been to Sylvan Learning for reading comprehension. He likes it, and he's gotten better. It's easier for any kid to learn from someone else sometimes than their parents sitting there and hounding them about it. Sylvan Learning also incentivizes the kids with snacks, and they get a little treat or toy after they earn so many points as well.
My son wasn't super off track. It's just fine-tuning the basics. The teachers don't have time to get to each kid, and it helps just having a couple of kids in a group. I'd recommend the program if someone asked for tutoring help or whatever the case may be. We definitely only have good things to say. So far, it's been a good experience.

Nathan and Bethany have been really, really excelling since going to Sylvan. I'm also seeing a huge difference in their confidence as well. They're actually looking forward to each week. Honestly, before you called, Bethany just walked upstairs and said, "Do I have class this Thursday?" And I'm like, "Not this week, sweetheart." So, you can tell that they're very, very excited. Even her reading for both of them and stuff, just the reading is definitely excelling. She's able to do more of the reading without the assistance of me telling her, "Hey, try," and then after giving her those cues. Before, she would have the syllables down pack. She would pretty much be able to break down those compounds. But blending it and putting it all together, which there was a struggle, especially with the bigger words. But now, she's pretty much excelling. It's the same thing with Nathan as well.
The kids have been coming home and I'll ask them like, "Hey, how did it go?" They'll talk to me about it. They're able to recite it back to me. Versus before, the challenge was they weren't really interested in wanting to learn. So, it's really been a great program. My husband and I are very pleased. A couple of weeks back, we had a progress support check-in. So, I was able to go in and just speak about their milestones and I was very, very pleased to see the progress within it all.

My son has both language studies as well as math. He goes to Sylvan Learning four times a week, Tuesday to Friday, and he's definitely gaining confidence, which I'm glad. He still has a long way to go, but I'm seeing very small improvements and it’s only been three weeks. I have every confidence that he's gaining peace about the work, not being afraid of it and taking up the challenges in his own pace and time. That's a great advantage for him so far. Sylvan Learning has been accommodating, helpful and taking care of my son, and I'm thankful. Being a mom who wants the best for him, I would love to see him go faster, but it's at his own pace and ability. Other than that, the best way I can spend my money is on my child and making sure that he's capable once he gets into school.

She enjoys going to tutoring more than she enjoys any other extra-curricular activity that she does and she does a few. My grandson’s grades were continually going down. I tried a list through the school of tutoring but there was difficulty and I was at my wits’ end. Then, I even asked his counselor to call him back in to see how he was doing when I had my second phone call with him. And he never did. I wasn't getting help at the school. And they're in the Crown Point School System. It is great if you're a good student but I wasn't getting him the help he needed. I was emailing and talking to teachers. They had an advisory class and the kids would have to leave and go to the class. And then he would tell me they were doing some testing. On his part, he didn't wanna leave the class out of embarrassment that he needed help. So, I needed to get him away from the school environment because he didn't wanna feel like he didn't know his studies.
I just happened to be in therapy and the therapist and I were having a conversation. If I wouldn't have had her recommendation, I still would have been floundering. So, I would be able to save the school some steps and aggravation because it was a daily chore trying to figure out how to get help for my grandson. It's appalling that the school didn't have any answers for me.
I'm very happy with Sylvan’s program. Jen, the director, is very good and I enjoy talking with her. She's very thorough and gives good feedback. Jayden’s doing very well in attending there. As far as his attitude, I have no problem getting him there. So far, everything's been great. I'm gonna try to keep him going during the school year. It's gonna be a little bit of a struggle, but I gotta try to make something work out. The learning experience is good. He was going at the end of last school year to go for help with homework and it was helping. He was struggling. It's happened two years in a row where he was doing good at the beginning of the school but as learning got harder, his grades were declining. So, hopefully, I see a change in eighth grade. He had two years of e-learning, so it hit him hard.
I just spoke with the tutor yesterday regarding my grandson’s progress in Reading for the summer program and he is achieving skills. So, he's going into eighth grade. He was reading at a sixth-grade level and now he's almost up to a seventh. He's not there yet but he's still in the program. He goes from 8:30 to 9:30 and one of the teachers that he has was a substitute at his middle school, so he knows the one. He enjoys all the teachers so he hasn't complained about any of them.

We're happy with Sylvan. I like that with them, my daughter has a tutor, whereas with ABCmouse, it was just me at home. We love Miss Janet. We've requested that she'd always be our tutor. My daughter was having an issue with another one and she kept saying she didn't wanna go back. But when we stay with Miss Janet, she's wonderful. She's always willing to go in with smile on her face, and work.
Sylvan has a good reward system. On average, my daughter completes anywhere from seven to nine lessons. When she completes a lesson or does something, she gets a point for each one. They have a little store which is like a bookshelf that they put prices on. The students can pick a prize and save their points until they make that price. Then they get to take it home when they win their prizes. My daughter loves that. When she turns back her homework in, she'll always get a sticker on her homework and sometimes an extra point for turning it in.
The tutor would write out sentences that she wants my daughter to copy or letters that she's working on to work on her handwriting. My daughter would come home and we'd trace those then turn them back in. While we were in school, I asked her teacher when my daughter had been going for about a six-week period. She said that my daughter's handwriting was looking a little bit better and that she seemed to know a few more sight words and a couple more alphabet letters.
There was some misunderstanding recently though. I thought this whole time that my daughter had been doing both math and literacy, but she had only been doing the reading aspect. But that just switched so now we're focusing on both. If I have any questions, I wait till either the beginning of the session once they walk out to tell the kids to come or till the very end when they're dismissing kids. I'll ask the questions and they usually answer my questions right there. I would recommend Sylvan ‘cause I don't see any regression.

It not only gives kids competence, but it will get them to where they need to be. Also, the people truly care, especially our location. I feel very strongly about the people working in our location. Overall, they have such a good reputation because of the people they hire. That goes hand in hand. They get good people that want to work for them. I've been taking my daughter to Sylvan since the summer after her second grade. I love Sylvan. They took somebody who had no concept of comprehension learning and got her pretty much caught up. She couldn't learn at school. She does better with one-on-one teaching and just excels. Then, we gave her tests they give to children in school and she's so much better. She doesn't have all the gossip to distract her. She's a fifth grade girl on hormones. She's a gossip queen. So, I love it.
Sherry is absolutely amazing. She calls me all the time. I can call her on any given day and she will give me a full subject. We get together once every two months and go over what my daughter has learned and what she needs to work on. She's doing reading and math. The tutors are amazing and patient with her. The only thing is Sylvan is like, "Oh, we help children and we love children, but we're gonna dry your parents' pockets clean." I don't think it's a fair concept at all. I'm taking loans out to pay for my daughter's education because they charge an arm and a leg. So, they could work on that. Other than that, I have referred almost every one of my sisters and a couple of my colleagues to see them.

My boy has some issues so we have him in a program to hopefully improve so he'll be ready for second grade level math when school starts back in August. He has been attending Sylvan since the beginning of May and he goes twice a week, and I am seeing a difference. I always ask him for feedback when I pick him up. He’s worked well with all the tutors, but he has a couple of tutors that he likes. Anna and her husband run the Sylvan where we go to. They're great people. They work with you and listen to your concern. They try to come up with the best solution for the family and the child, take into consideration what the child needs. So far, my son loves going there. He doesn't see it as a punishment that he has to do, like extra math work. So, they find a way to make it interesting and fun.
The quality is superb. I'm sure this is not something that everyone can afford, but I'm grateful that I have the spare income to do this. There's a lot of parents out there that would benefit from something like this, but the affordability is a concern.

There was a rep who called me from Sylvan. He was so kind and he went over everything with me. He was on the phone with me for so long that I felt like I was his only thing he had to do all day and it was a weekend. I was impressed with his phone etiquette and genuineness. Before my daughter took the assessment, the director reached out and was very polite. She thought that we could start my daughter at her grade level. I said, "I really think she's well below the grade level.". They ended up testing her and she tested in 5th grade when she's in 10th grade. We were glade we gave her the test.
Since my daughter has been going there, they have been doing regular conferences with me to tell me how she's doing. I thought my daughter was gonna be like, "I don't want to come here," but she went, "I have been proven wrong. This is great. This is gonna help me. I love it." Her tutor Kathy makes her comfortable and she gives my daughter one-on-one attention. She's only been going two months and she's already almost at the next grade level. The communications were pretty much, “Hey, don't forget they have class today. You know, there's no class on this day because of weather or whatever.” So, the communication was fantastic. We never felt any negativity at all when we were there. All the tutors seemed exceptional. The scheduling was flexible and we got results and felt like the kid enjoyed it. They're just gonna remember one thing, like, "Go to the store." So that was what the lady explained to me about the main problem that she saw. He couldn't do the sounds, so he was prekindergarten level when he was in second grade when we started. He's an only child and didn't have a big sister or brother help with the support. We've done all we could do and it wasn't registering. Sylvan did a testing to see where he was at in the beginning and with that, they found out where to start at and saw how much he knew. They found out that he was a right brain learner. So, that's a little slow with comprehending things. They were able to reach him where he was at to make him feel good about what he was learning. Gradually, he started learning.
He was ashamed to read at first but after he's been to Sylvan, every time you look around, he's reading something. It makes me feel great. We invest in things, and education is the best investment you can give any child. Sylvan is doing wonders with my grandson. He's doing math tutoring now. He's doing really good with it. He has jumped two grade levels. So, I'm satisfied. It's costly, but I'll do what I gotta do.

I went to Sylvan when I was little, and I chose it because it's in our area and my son needed help with reading. They're using an array of different things. Lucas is dyslexic, so they're using several different things for him. I can't narrow it down to one particular thing. They're using some computer-based programs along with some paper stuff. For phonics, they use a paper-based thing for him. Unfortunately, he's in sixth-grade and he's almost like at a third-grade reading level. He's really behind. So, what they're doing is kind of different for him. We go in monthly and get the breakdown of what they're doing with him for comprehension and for his phonics.
As far as the instructors, they're great. They're more personable. They take the time to sit there with the students. They don't rush the students. If they feel like the student is not getting the concept, they're going to break it down for the student and help the student to understand what they're lacking. They don't make the student feel bad about it. My student enjoys going. It makes him want to learn instead of hating learning, which is a phenomenal thing. If your student is in need of help, then Sylvan is the place to go because they're going to help your student to fill in the gaps that they're missing. So, if it's reading, math, or for testing purposes, I would highly recommend Sylvan because they're going to help your student.

My son went to Sylvan Learning for tutoring classes for reading. He didn't like going to tutoring ‘cause he doesn't like school, but he would say, “It's good.” Sylvan Learning was helpful and I could see a bit of progression on his end. They said that he was active academically and doing well. However, we weren't enrolled that long. I stopped the services ‘cause school’s about to end, so it was pointless. I would return him back to it if he's struggling in the fall.

Sylvan has probably been the best thing, but either way, we're still struggling. We shifted gears through the year because we were trying to get more help with my child's homework than his actual classes. So, we veered from the reading, and then starting this summer, we're gonna go back to focusing on reading. But his homework with his reading goes hand in hand. He's a teenager and he does act excited about going. So, that's significant. He knows it helps. I would recommend Sylvan. The teachers have all been excellent. They're very friendly. The two girls that run it figured out my son's best needs without me saying anything. They'll know when he's with a teacher that is not jiving and they'll be like, "He's not going with that one anymore." He will tell me and they'll already have texted me.

Sylvan Learning offers additional services, but reading is the only one that we asked for and that they're helping. My daughter loves going and we've seen an improvement. So, it's a win-win-win. Our Sylvan experience has been great. It's been extremely helpful for my child. The only thing I would recommend with Sylvan is for them to stop making kids wear masks. I don't know why they're still requiring them to wear masks. My kid is a newer English language learner, and part of learning is looking at people's mouth expression. So, I feel like that branch needs to eliminate that. He is doing language, arts, and math. He started in February. He's definitely improving. I probably need to check in with him and see how much he's improved because I know there's some form of assessment they can give me.
My kid's been happy at Sylvan. It's tutoring. It's not like he's going to Disneyland, but he understands that he needs to learn. We're just trying to get him caught up academically. He's been academically behind. Somehow, he was just passed through by the public school. Then we realized he was really far behind, even though his school said he was doing fine. I was a Sylvan student 25 years ago and it helped me tremendously. I was in third grade and could not read. And after the summer that I spent at Sylvan, I ended up going to college for teaching English. And I am a prolific reader. So, I knew whenever other people had recommended other things and I said, "If Sylvan isn't still around, we'll go somewhere else. But if Sylvan is an option, that's definitely my first choice." So, when I realized that my boys needed a supplement, we looked up and found out that the Sylvan in our area is still owned by the same family that managed it when I was there 25 years ago. So, I called and got my boys signed up. We love it.
My middle son is on the spectrum, but he still is really thriving at Sylvan even though they don't have specific lessons for children on the spectrum. He's doing well. And they reward him based on how he is improving at his rate versus an age goal, which was a problem in a lot of other places. They wanted to tutor him at grade level for age, but that wasn't where he was. But Sylvan tests him, they see where he's at, and they go from there versus making the functions about where he should be based on his age. So, the people there at Sylvan have been wonderful.
I bought the Sylvan workbooks and I started using those that I ordered in our home-school for his reading five words and Math. My boys only go to Sylvan right now for reading, but I use the workbook for both reading and Math. And the teachers have been good. I have taken the book up there several times and asked them to find the unit that they are currently working on in class and that way, I can reinforce what my boys are doing in class in our at-home work. We have already seen a lot of improvements in the fresh perspective.
It feels much like it was 25 years ago where they give them their lessons. We didn't do work on tablets, but that's just part of being a child now is that you have to learn to navigate electronics. But still, the encouragement, even though it's not quite one-on-one, I like that they're at small group tables, and now that they've been going for a while they've gotten to know the teachers. It hasn't changed that much, in a good way. I have two friends who also home-school who are trying to contact the Sylvan that I go to, to see if they have a slot where they could get their kids in.SARAH: That is correct.

So, I picked them because it was similar to the school in which he was going to. He's gotten more confident in his abilities with math. He's able to find the answers faster. So, those are the ways in which it's improved. Sylvan has great customer service. They've been very transparent and very helpful anytime I have a question or I need schedule change. It's been a very positive experience. It's been very helpful in my son's educational journey.

It has been a good three months with Sylvan. My son's in third grade. It will go on till I feel he's comfortable doing whatever school work he's doing. He is on the autism spectrum where he's on a very high functioning side of the spectrum, with little bit of delay in language and reading. He's picking up on it, and he's growing out of the disability. Most of his services are gone except the comprehension part where he struggles. No other therapy system would consider him on the autism spectrum. Most therapies wouldn't work for him. They're not challenging enough for him. I had to find a set up which was for a normal kid in a normal classroom, but would cater to my son's needs.
I like that Sylvan doesn't give homeworks. My son would flip out if there'd be homework to be done every week. They just do it once in the classroom and do the same thing over for a week like other classes do. I would definitely recommend Sylvan for kids who are not so good with homeworks. Having a teacher sit right next to them and help them with this thing is paramount. For math, it's only practice. Once you learn a concept, you do it over and over and you figure it out. But in English and reading, you have to have that person because every story every day is different. You need a different decoding strategy to find answers to different questions.

With the other service that we used, the tutor came to my house but I was not getting a good enough feedback. Our son is so behind and we didn't want private. He needed structure. My sister had used Sylvan for her kids and she's a teacher. So, with my sister being a teacher, we knew that Sylvan was one of the better ones to use. My son is really behind in sight words. So he's focusing in reading. It's really gotten him a confidence builder at this point and it's seen him grow. Our son has ADHD and has a form of dyslexia where he sees shadowing. We got him the prism glasses, so that's helped. Sylvan's really given him the confidence that he's really needed.
Now that he's on medication, he can really focus and he's jumping right where Tommy said he was gonna jump. He's really jumped. So, that's what was really good. The director there has done a great job saying, "Okay, this is where we're gonna see him and this is where he's gonna done." My focus is to get him ahead going into second grade. Now that we have him on ADHD medication, we'll see that jump even quicker.
My son likes school now and it's great. He likes to be read to, but he's starting to want to read, which is great. We haven't been going to Sylvan that long, but we're starting to see the little jumps and those little wins are great. With him having ADHD and with him having a learning disability, we're in Sylvan for the long haul. It's not like we're gonna ever be done with Sylvan. He knows all of the rules and how things work, but they are making sure that he can apply them. My son is in a small group, about three people, with one teacher. He has a tablet that he uses, and the teacher is interacting with him as well. The incentives are cheesy little stuff, but the students love it, so if that's what works, that's fine.
We're seeing a difference with our son already. Yesterday, I saw him reading the labels at the ice cream shop, which he doesn't usually do, and for me, it was a sigh of relief. My son is taking the initiative and going, “Mom, look! Most of them have been enthusiastic and open to helping my nieces.
My oldest niece has liked it from the beginning. So far, it's been a positive experience for her. She went from not even being able to count money, which was a very serious issue for me, to now being confident with money. She still has a ways to go, but she understands the basic concepts now. She hates being in the program, but she went from hating reading to telling her teacher on the first day of school that that was her favorite subject. I was shocked at that. She can read books now on her own. Before, she would cry for hours if you try to make her read something.
I love the reward system. That's been helpful in getting them engaged and enthusiastic about it. My only issue so far has been price. But it's been well worth it. I would recommend it to my friends. My daughter's super smart but has trouble concentrating on schoolwork. We feel Sylvan is helping, because all of our other options, the public school tutoring and the others were like, "We will help you with your homework," or "We will help you with what you're learning currently." But a lot of people really don't understand when a puzzle is trying to get put together and there are pieces missing. They just try to get to the area of the puzzle that's currently being worked on and they overlook some of these gaps that happen. But Sylvan seems to be best equipped in understanding that.
She has fun. She gets this sense of accomplishment. They're slowly building her up to where she needs to be, as far as understanding these subjects. They make her feel good, which is about 180 degrees from where she is typical with schoolwork, homework, and tutor. We're very happy with this region and with the Irmo location. It's really a good thing. It's also priced right.

My son's doing the reading in the first grade level and so far, it's been great. We can tell that he's mastering his skills. Sylvan has been helpful and accommodating. It's a very loving and nurturing environment. All the teachers are great here at the Jackson location. For what you're getting and what you're paying for, it's fine.

Two grandchildren are doing Math and Reading with Sylvan. It's very good. It's done them a world of good. We've been doing it for about seven months and twice a week. My granddaughter was very behind and now, she's getting caught up. It's helped my grandson a lot for third grade. Annette and another lady that runs the place are very nice and helpful. If we need to get an excused absence, there's no problem. They're excellent. My interactions are great.

Sylvan offers an excellent program, and they were willing to help Haley, our developmentally delayed child, who went to kindergarten. They passed her to first grade. I started noticing things and took Sylvan Learning Haley's background, brought them all the paperwork, and the teacher said, “You bring her to us.” It's the best decision I made. Haley really likes it there. She goes right in, sits down and there’s no argument about it. She likes the tutors. She likes Anita and the men she works with. Haley is a little behind in some things, and other things, she's accelerating in. She's maturing. She knows all her numbers, but reading is still hard for her so they're working on it.
Haley goes to Sylvan twice a week, but I wish she could go there more because they've been the most help than any place around here. If she could go more, then she could write and understand. Other schools just push her aside. At her old school, I asked them why she can't write, and they said, “Oh, it’s clinical,” and the stories go on.
I owe Sylvan a lot. The lady gave Haley a full scholarship because we're low income, and it's not a prize. She’s no longer going to her old school. She's seven, and the lady in Sylvan helped me get her into a different school. She’s gonna go to Shiloh Christian School. She'll be a solid first grader and hopefully reading by the end of the school year.

Our daughter was running a little behind kindergarten. She needed to learn how to read, and Sylvan Learning made a program for her. They started from ground zero and brought her all the way up to the level of kindergarten. She's in first grade, and they’re continuing the process with her. She loves it, and we've got another 40 hours with them. It’s a lot of group and one-on-one sessions, and she’s learning. I can see a difference, and I would tell friends, “Hey, it’s good. It’s for your kid. It's worth it." One thing though, it's very good to get rewarded for things you do, but I don't think you should be rewarded for everything. It keeps the kid honest to the schoolwork and not just based on the reward.

I'm trying to get my son into computers because he's good at gaming. He did a week in June and a week in July for the robotics camp. I thought that would be something he'd be interested in, and he seemed to enjoy it. He wanted to do it again. He's autistic and that helped him out a lot. The teacher was nice. He explained some of the things that they were doing. If your kid is interested in coding or robotics or gaming, I would suggest going to Sylvan Learning Center ‘cause they work great with my son. The fact they know how to deal with kids of different types of disabilities is great.

My son is responding to Sylvan very well. He used to cry every time we would mention writing or reading. But he got in the car the other day and said, “How long do I have to do this? I'm rocking it.” I was impressed with that. However, although we can look his progress up on Sylvan's website, a little more personal interaction about what he's doing and how he's doing would be helpful to me.

My mother-in-law uses Sylvan for my nephew. I also checked Google and the reviews, and I visited the center and liked the environment. I heard good things about the center, so I decided to put my son there and, really, it's helping him a lot. He has learned his five words and he needs to learn more, but he just graduated from kinder. The tutor has practiced a lot with him about the sounds on the letters, and right now, all the letters are put together, so he can start reading more. I really trust the tutor. Sometimes I talk with her and she tells me what she's doing. I also have a meeting with the director every month to discuss the progress for my son, and I like it. I'm very happy with everything.

Sylvan said my son is good. But we are not happy about the progress. We didn’t see a big progress. We led them to focus on reading and writing. But I've never seen that he's writing in the class. Everything is in the computer, like rhymes. It said he’s reading, but I have never seen that in the writing. We are planning to change. Because we are paying a lot of money, but my son is not that happy. He said he's not learning that much. Sylvan doesn’t focus into his weaknesses. I thought they would do an assessment and attention based on the results. Apparently, they don't do that. He's working with me and his dad. Plus, his class teacher is helping him a lot. We already paid $3,000, up close to $50 per hour. But we have still more hours.

They stayed focused on the different levels of algebra to get to geometry. At one time, they had people who weren't focused on it so I talked to the acting lead people, and they said that they would make sure only people that would address her would be those who knew geometry. This one person didn't know geometry. Overall, Sylvan is good. They will help your child improve in whatever subject they need to be improved in.
