My son is doing a lot better with Sylvan Learning, and it’s been nothing but a great experience. Even his teacher says he's making improvements. We’re focusing more on getting him where he needs to be with reading because he was still at kindergarten level and he just finished the first grade. We're just trying to get him on track at first grade level so second grade won't be difficult for him. He's excited every time we go because he likes the rewards-type program where he earns points and receives little prizes at the end.

I’m able to keep track of his progress by having meetings in person and over the phone. I also email back and forth the school director and ask his tutor about his progress. They've always been super nice, very communicative, and they answer any questions I have. I'm one of those people that always has a lot of questions, and they’ve been very patient with me and they still are. I don't have any issues. No problems. Even the parents are super sweet.

It's expensive, but from my experience, it's worth it. They charge what they're worth, so I can't even be mad about it. They also have payment plans, and they’re flexible on payments, so that's another good thing.

My child needed help in Mathematics. We were with Sylvan for about two months and there was a marked improvement from when our child started. We had nothing but positive experiences while we were there. We stopped after two months only because we noticed a really big improvement. We felt like it was the motivation to get our child to where he needed to go.

My kid used to go to Kumon, and compared to that experience, he is not as stressed at Sylvan. He’s focused on reading and math, and he comes out happy. He seems more excited to show me stuff but his reading skills haven’t improved yet. I’m still giving them time since we’ve only been there for two months. It’s still early.

My kid seems to understand algebra better. I’m not seeing it so much directly in his grades, but he seems more confident, and hopefully, it comes along with time. We’ve been doing Sylvan for maybe two months now. Communication with the tutor is very good. I’ll get more feedback when I have my first meeting to sit down with Morgan on Tuesday.

We’re using the Sylvan in Riverton. The people are very kind and welcoming. The atmosphere is really good too. The environment they’re going into is the number one for me, before the teaching and learning. Overall, I love the teacher, the tutors, and the managers are really great. The teacher is very good. They take their time. But I'm not satisfied at all with the communication that they gave me when they first did the interview and starting the program. We went to Sylvan for my daughter, in regards to reading and math, and the experience was good until they gave me a bill. I had paid in advance for her to take some classes and they were supposed to stop the classes when she had completed the ones that I had paid for. But they kept going with the classes until the ending of the month. Then they tell me I owe this much.

They were also supposed to do a review. Then after that, if I wanted to go on with the classes, then we would talk about numbers. We would go through a plan where we'll figure out where she’s weak, where she’s strong, she’s gonna need a little more of this, what the classes are gonna consist of, and what the pricing was gonna be. It didn't even happen that way. So I wasn't too happy with that. They made me pay an extra $590 that came out of nowhere.

I didn't quite knew that I was supposed to stop the class and for us to have a review. They told me that that was my fault because they had given me a date when we spoke and that I would have to pay because she had already taken the class. I told him I don't feel comfortable because our agreement was that I'm gonna pay for so many classes. I had paid for 22 hours, which was $709. That was the investment that I did.

Another thing was rescheduling. My daughter was set to go Wednesday because her mom would take her, and then I was to take her Saturday. I was doing the personal call where I would say my daughter needs to get rescheduled and instead of doing Wednesday, her mother was gonna take her Thursday. But it wasn’t happening. Wednesday came and they would ask why my daughter wasn’t there. I said I called them a day in advance and they’re like, “Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Now we see it.”

They were quick to screw up on the date and then call me about it. But when it came down to the payment, they said they only give courtesy calls if we’re not there but they don’t give a courtesy call for the date that we’re supposed to be going there because they had already given me that date. I didn't see the logic in that and that's the only thing that pisses me off with them. I told them to send me my review because I was gonna burn them on their review. They haven't even sent me my review yet.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about the Sylvan Learning Center in Pembroke Pines. My grandson was significantly behind in school—testing below kindergarten level—even as he was nearing the end of 1st grade. We had tried several options before discovering Sylvan, including school-based tutoring through Dojo and after-school help led by high school students. Unfortunately, those didn’t make much of a difference, mostly due to delays, inconsistency, and a lack of tailored support. Then we found Sylvan—and what a difference it has made! In just 60 hours of instruction, my grandson has progressed to a beginning 1st-grade level. That’s a huge leap in such a short time, and it’s thanks to the structured, professional, and engaging approach the tutors at Sylvan provide.

What touches me most is how excited he is after every session. He comes out beaming, proud to share what he’s learned, and eager to go back. His confidence has improved not only academically but in his overall demeanor at school. He now walks into class with his head held higher, participating more, and showing pride in his progress. Sylvan has been a blessing for our family, and I highly recommend it to any parent or grandparent whose child needs that extra support to thrive.

Our experience with Sylvan has been wonderful. We’ve tried so many different tutors that were a lot more expensive than Sylvan, and we've dropped all of them. We just stayed with Sylvan because there is consistency. They walk my child through slowly, she learns, and she progresses. They also give me reports. So, I really like their structure. My child does one hour of math and one hour of ELA every Saturday.

The teachers are good, and while she connects with some more than others, that’s okay. Sylvan are very responsive to emails and we haven’t had any issues at all. Sylvan Learning stepped in when I really needed it. I saw them locally, then I looked online and saw that there was virtual tutoring. That made me interested. My daughter is getting a little more confident. No kid wants to get on the computer and tutor after school but the program is helping her. It's definitely supplementing what she's missing at school. I've listened to the tutors and they cater to her nicely. They fit her personality, and they aren't moving too fast. They make sure she's comfortable. Sometimes, they'll ask some questions about her, which is nice. It's not all business all the time. At one point, my daughter was like, "I know this stuff." Some of it's a little easier, but it's good to do a check-in at some point every couple of times with the parent to see if something’s a little different. That's the only thing, but I trust the process a little. It’s been wonderful with Sylvan Learning.

I've known about Sylvan because I raised my boys here in Louisiana, in Baton Rouge. One of my boys went for a little while, some 20 years ago. And then I didn't have a tutor for my granddaughter, so I just wanted to see how it was, if it was gonna improve, or if what I was doing was sufficient. I pulled back on what I was doing because I felt like, “Okay. Well, she's going twice a week, and I probably could get a retired teacher for $25 an hour, but I'm paying $55 an hour.” So okay, but I want to see. I gotta stop. ‘Cause she had all A's before she came to Sylvan, and then since I pulled back and said, “Well, okay. Let me see what Sylvan can do.” She got a B in one of her little courses in math, in fact. And so I thought, “Well, I'm not going to continue.” I know she doesn't like my method, and I didn't want to be the one to continue to just teach her because I don't want to have to sit her down all the time, so I'm trying to find a balance with that. So I just didn't need their services anymore. And she didn't really want to continue. I kind of took one of her routines away to try Sylvan, like she’d take gymnastics, and she was taking swimming. So I took one of those away so that she could have that twice a week. I thought, “Well, you gotta really find out if it's beneficial, cause if it's not, then you're gonna just do what you need to do every evening and let her take the evening that we're not focused on homework or whatever, let her go and do the activities that she likes to do.” So it was not that I just didn't think that it didn't benefit. I can't say anything negative. It didn't improve the situation. And if she was getting all A's and then she ended up getting a B, then I didn't think it was beneficial. I don't want to make this sound like I think I'm superior to anybody. But I'm just gonna say everybody doesn't put in the same efforts. So I'm saying it was not beneficial for me. I would recommend them to someone who needs them, I really would.

It was a test to see if this was going to be something long-term. They make it so easy for opt-out programs, so the opt-out is you’re month-to-month contracted in for the most part, as long as you let them know 30 days in advance. You have to know whether or not it's something that is effective. And sometimes the program is an effective program. It just so happened that it does not apply to my granddaughter this time. This place has been worthwhile from 20 years ago. It was a great experience. It really was.

It's going great with Sylvan Learning. We signed up a couple of years ago, and my son's gonna start in the summer again. He's good in school, but we put him in the summer to keep his brain in school mode. We like the assessments. They really help him grow. Because of all the transition through COVID and a lot of teachers always quitting, kids have been behind on writing paragraphs and sentences, handwriting, and spelling, ‘cause they're always on laptops. Writing paragraphs is what we're focusing on this summer in Sylvan.

He's in third grade but reads fifth grade level. He does math at fifth grade level, too. It's those simple things that he should have learned earlier, but they're not taught in school. They say it's not measurable. When he's in school, when I'm talking to teachers, I ask, “When we're writing or typing paragraphs on the computer, why aren't we doing spelling bees? They're like, “We don't focus on that.” I'm like, “You should because that's how they write sentences.” Sylvan really helps on those gaps so we're very happy with them. Everyone's always friendly and welcoming, too. When we're done or when we do assessments, they'll ask how everything is. There were also two people who've been helping us. One of them is the office manager.

As far as what she's learning, I can't say enough about Sylvan Learning. They do a great job. She's halfway through her SAT prep, she's done multiple practice tests there, and her score comes up every time, so it's definitely helping. But she’s in group tutoring and sometimes it takes 30 minutes before they get to her, so at $60 an hour, that has wasted a lot of money, and I was pretty upset. But I talked to them about it and they resolved it quickly, at least for last week anyway.

I have a learning disability myself and I had researched about Sylvan Learning with my mom when I was younger, and they are one of the ones that came up and we could afford them. My niece was going through the program. She and my son are very close so it was an easy choice for us to put them in the same program so that they could see that kids of the same age and everybody has their own trouble that they are working through.

Since we have been with them, we have noticed a huge improvement. He’s still not where he needs to be at grade level, but part of that is the fault of the school district themselves. But he’s definitely more confident in articulating what he wants, and he is happy about going there. We figured out he likes to be first, so that was part of our problem and so they helped with slowing him down and reading what’s on the paper.

Our dealings with the tutors have been very positive. We’ve had monthly meetings about his improvement. They greet him, and they’re happy that they know something personal about him. They relate to him personally. They take the time to get to know their kids so that there is some level of individual approach to every kid.

My son loves it, and he knows the days that are his days. Also, he has a big smile on his face, and he cannot wait to go. In fact, he was really sad that we are on vacation and he couldn’t go. Their public website is fair easy to use, and in there they have one for the kids in the program that you can follow their progress. And each time, that gets updated. If your kids are behind anything, and if they have the ability to afford it, Sylvan is an excellent option to go. We are getting what we needed.

I filled out a web form online from Sylvan Learning and waited for them to contact me. We’ve been with them for nine months. With my child, reading was the primary focus. They started by going back to previous grade levels and working on the basics, which means phonics, sounds, and sight words.

My son enjoys it when he's there. He enjoys the people. He sees it as more schooling after school. He's never exactly too excited to go there, but it's nothing personal to the company. Once he's in the car, he knows that he's not gonna weasel out like you would on a sick day. By the time he gets there, he's like, "I’m here, so it needs to be done.“ He doesn't seem to carry any complaints. I would refer others to go Sylvan. It's been a lot of help with my son. They have taught him to read, so that takes a lot of pressure off me as a parent to have that stress thinking we failed him, because he's caught up to the point now where he can pick up a paragraph. There are some words that he's still behind on, but overall, it’s night and day with his progress.

We only can go once a week because she has speech therapy four times. It was way too much to do in one day plus school, so they agreed. But, I know that her teachers talked to me because she was reading her little book and they pulled me aside, and the other teacher wrote me a letter to let me know how well she’s doing. So, my daughter is improving.

I like that they have a little bit of a chit-chat with me to keep me abreast and give me their insights. The tutors are definitely helpful, and they give me recommendations. It's been an excellent experience with Sylvan. My daughter was struggling in Math, Geometry, and I couldn't help her. So I just decided to reach out to them to get her some extra help. She had an F last semester, and this semester, she got a B.

At first, I thought she wasn't gonna like the tutoring because she had to be there every week. But at one point, I was like, we just ain't gonna do tutoring if you feel like it ain't helping you. And she was like, no, I like that tutoring.

She thought it was helping her better than actual in-school. So, we actually ended up stopping the in-school tutoring to stick with Sylvan because she liked it. The teacher who actually taught her broke the lesson down for her to be able to comprehend it.

I always tell the parents of any of my little nieces or cousins who are struggling, that Sylvan would be a good one-on-one to help them get the extra help because I honestly didn't think there was no hope for my daughter, just a bad semester, and they did good.

I highly recommend them to everybody.

I was familiar with Sylvan Learning from back in the ‘90s with my two children, so when my granddaughter started having difficulties with math and language arts, I figured, "Why not Sylvan?" That's why I went back. Plus, they were conveniently located in our area.

Enrolling was easy. There was some miscommunication in the interim, but that was resolved. And so, the intake session went smoothly and she was able to start shortly after.

My granddaughter is excited to go. She loves going there. She doesn't leave grudgingly. I always ask her what thy did during the tutoring sessions, and she's able to recite what the lessons were. She leaves with good spirits.

Sylvan is a nice, kid-friendly environment. The children’s self-esteem definitely get boosted. And then they get little incentives as far as rewards at the end of the lesson that they're going over, so it reinforces study. At the same time, it reinforces their positiveness. I’ve see improvement in my granddaughter’s self-confidence, reading level, comprehension. Her math in particular -- counting money and multiplications, and rounding.

It's been easy interacting with Sylvan. No issues. They're very accommodating. Communication is great. Rescheduling is not an issue and they work with us, so I haven't had any issues.

When somebody told me that they sent their daughter to Sylvan and had a great experience, we gave it a try and went and talked with the staff. They seemed like great people. It seemed like a great learning environment. We've only been there a few months, but so far, so good. Over the years, I used to see commercials for Sylvan, and it stuck in my head. When my daughter needed tutoring, I said, “Let me see if it’s still around and what they got going on,” and it looked like a good program.

It’s been great. I couldn’t be happier. Things are going really well. Whoever she’s working with there, and all the staff, she loves them. She’s always excited to go to Sylvan. Her reading has improved quite a bit, and her grades at school have improved as well.

What makes me happiest is her confidence. She used to worry because she couldn’t read very well, and she was often embarrassed. She struggled in school. But since she’s been going to Sylvan, she’s totally different.

Before, trying to get her to do homework would usually end in a meltdown. She would say, “But mom, I can’t do it.” She didn’t think she was smart. Sylvan has boosted her confidence so much that now she’s excited about going.

She gets out of school and says, “Mom, do I have Sylvan today? Can I go to Sylvan today?” It makes me happy that she wants to go, and that they’ve helped her make such a big improvement.

During the enrollment process, we went over my child's learning level and the fact she has ADHD. So they went over what they will teach her. They gave her an assessment which took about an hour for each subject. They then went over that assessment with me and what areas she needs to work on, and then just discussed payment.

They were helping her with reading and math. She was excited to go because the students get tokens which they can use to buy rewards. She goes for two hours every week for each subject that she needs help with and has different tutors each day depending who is available. I believe everyone should have tutoring like that for all kids.

The instructor we ended up with was very knowledgeable about math and science and my son has improved as far as understanding both subjects. Dealing with the people locally has been really good. But it's inconvenient when I call and it goes to a national phone number, and then it trickles down to the person who's local ‘cause it took a minute for that to happen. It wasn’t any fault of Sylvan here, but it would be much more personal and more accommodating if I could just call and talk to somebody or leave a message for somebody here and they would call me back. It's hard to deal with a big corporation somewhere else in the United States, and then it trickles down finally to whatever Sylvan in whatever area.

The experience has been great between me and her dad and his wife. She was doing ELA, English and math, and the tutor helped her improve significantly. There was a lot of work to be done, and it was worth every penny we spent.

In her first year, she was there twice a week for two hours at a time. We let it become her option after that, and she herself chose to stay at Sylvan for one day a week. We scaled everything back a little – she was two years behind in reading and two years behind in math – but within a year, they got her caught up to only being a year behind, and still help her with day-to-day stuff.

Before choosing Sylvan Learning, I used to tutor my children myself. However, a family friend recommended Sylvan, which felt promising, especially after trying another tutoring center that just overwhelmed the kids with worksheets. That method didn't suit my son who has ADHD inattentive type, as he couldn't sit through it. I have three children enrolled with Sylvan, focusing primarily on Math and Writing, while one solely concentrates on Math. The tutors have been exceptional, with one standing out by working effectively with my inattentive son.

Initially, only one of my sons attended, and he wasn't pleased because his siblings weren't there. Once all three children joined, they complained initially but adjusted quickly. Two of them appreciate the extra help because it gives them an edge in class. My inattentive son has shown impressive improvements, particularly in mental Math and cognitive skills, and his confidence has significantly increased.

I would rate Sylvan as a 4.85 out of 5. The main reason it isn’t a perfect score is due to the turnover in directors. The previous director was instrumental in our decision to invest significantly in the program, and her absence has been an adjustment for the children. To friends with children struggling academically, I recommend Sylvan. At my age, I lack the energy to keep up with modern educational methods, so having Sylvan, with its favorable tutor-to-student ratio and engaging incentives for kids, has been invaluable. While it can be pricey, especially outside of sales like the Black Friday discount, it’s worth the investment given the updates and additional online resources they offer.

I've known about Sylvan Learning for years, but it wasn't until an internet search and a conversation with the center director that we decided it was the right place for our son. We had previously tried working with his school teachers, but found that other in-person tutoring options were limited. The tutor at Sylvan has been fantastic and has really made a positive impact in the subject areas they focus on.

Communication with Sylvan has been robust and patient; overall, it’s been an excellent experience working with them. Our son enjoys his sessions and has made a great connection with his tutor. It's truly been a positive experience for us.

So far so good! My son’s reading level increased from reading grade 3.5 to 7.5. I enrolled him in September and in January he exceeded his goal. I just switched him from reading to math and I’m hoping for the same results. This is a little pricey but worth the cost. They work with you and I love that. I’m happy my son is attending this program.

She's doing reading and math tutoring sessions. She took her test and her results will be back next week. So I'll see if she's going up the scale or if it's still at the same level.

I highly recommend Sylvan to anyone else who is struggling in Math. Tutors take their time and they really went above and beyond. They found extra resources that I needed. They were working with me and making sure that I understood how to work through and solve the problems. If I had any questions, I felt comfortable to ask. After my first session, I was expected to take the work home and work on it and to come back to my second session with any questions that I had after I had worked through the problems myself.

In my second session, we went over those problems that I was supposed to already have worked on to make sure that I understood what it was exactly that the question was asking about and what to do. If I didn't understand, I asked. There was even a time when the tutors didn't know the correct questions to the answers, but they sought out the answers. So it made me feel comfortable and more at ease knowing that they too had questions and they weren't afraid to reach out to others or look up the information on their device to try to find out what the answer was. It made me feel a lot better.

Sylvan seemed to have a better track record and better availability. So, we went with them and now, they're focusing on Math and ELA with my child. He's been going there over the last two years, just as needed, and he feels more confident that he's understanding the concepts. He's better able to apply them in the classroom setting. Sylvan's tutors present the material in several different formats so the students can absorb it as they do or not in general. There's better retention there.

Sylvan's reps also start providing them information for things that they're going to see in the future so that as those come up, they're feeling confident that they already know that material. But Sylvan is a bit on the pricier side and if they had different options available, more students would be able to access the services. My child is a preteen boy. So, some days, attending Sylvan is like pulling teeth. But he even requested to go back once he felt like he was being challenged with some of the things that they were learning this school year.

Our experience with Sylvan has been wonderful. My daughter loves it. They brought her out of her shell. She's engaged and happy. Whereas in school, she's not engaged and happy. It's been a wonderful experience to get her back on track ever since COVID. I don't feel like the school district did enough to help with the learning loss that the kids suffered. My daughter was severely behind. I kept waiting for the school to do something, and then finally took matters into my own hands. I'm so glad I did because she is doing so much better in every subject. They concentrate on English and Math. She gets these very short assignments that are easy for her to digest and focus on. They seem to be very geared towards getting her to the next step and she's been progressing through wonderfully. We're completely satisfied with Sylvan. They're a little pricey, though. I wish it was a little more affordable.

She's now in fourth grade, but she's been doing it since third grade and she has improved tremendously. She had all As and one B this last report card. While I don't speak directly with the tutor themselves, the directors meet with me every eight weeks to give me an update and go over my child's progress. That was always very nice to see. They always had nice diagrams set up for me. I highly recommend Sylvan Learning. They definitely work and they're very organized.

They focus on algebra with my son, particularly preparing for an end-of-course exam. He brought the material that he needed to work on every day and they helped him digest and break down the problems. They generate additional questions from time to tome but the material was all provided by the school, for the most part. The outcome was exceptional, as my son achieved results that we were looking for.

One significant improvement I noticed was the increased time my son dedicated to math, thanks in part to the diligent schedules set by the tutors. They were professional, approachable, and helped create a productive environment. My son connected well with at least two of the tutors, which made the sessions effective and engaging. I would highly recommend Sylvan Learning to other parents facing similar academic challenges. I hope they continue their valuable community work.

I've been using Sylvan Learning for math tutoring for my child, and the experience has been quite positive. The tutor has been instrumental in teaching my child the importance of comprehending questions thoroughly to arrive at the correct answers, which has led to noticeable improvement.

Initially, my child felt embarrassed attending an extra learning program due to the stigma around it, feeling that it reflected poorly on a student. This sentiment is common as it's often perceived that such programs are for those not doing well. However, I strongly believe Sylvan could reframe this perception by emphasizing that these programs could also be for students aiming for outstanding results—it's a privilege to have such support and an opportunity to excel. Plus, it's not that cheap.

I know this is a privilege for my child. I work more than 12 hours and make sacrifices to make sure I give my children the best education because that's all I'm gonna be able to provide them. I'm not gonna leave to my kids money, but I'm gonna leave them the legacy of education. Even though my child might not see it now, I am certain this education will be invaluable in the future. Therefore, I would love Sylvan to promote the program in a way that makes children feel proud and aware of the advantage they have.

    Overall, I rate Sylvan a 4 out of 5.

He was quite behind when he returned to the classroom, particularly in math. Since starting with Sylvan, there's been a remarkable turnaround. He went from having a low grade in the 30s to achieving a strong C at 78%. This improvement has been significant and has done wonders for his confidence. He genuinely looks forward to his tutoring sessions every Saturday. He's happier and he seems to understand. His teacher even expressed to me how proud she is of him, of the improvements that he's doing. It's awesome.

The tutors have been fantastic, and the overall service is top-notch. It was absolutely the best decision I could have made for my child. As a parent who works every day, it eased the burden and frustration I was feeling trying to help him on my own. This service has benefited us both, and I'm grateful for it. I've even recommended Sylvan to others.

My experience with Sylvan Learning has been quite positive. I chose Sylvan based on the familiarity and positive experiences shared by others, without exploring other tutoring options. Their tutor has been assisting my child in reading, an area where my child previously struggled. Since starting in October, I have noticed a notable improvement in his reading scores, progressing from a score in the low 30s to 48%. The tutors truly excel in providing effective guidance.

Although I haven't met the current tutor, my child always leaves the sessions happy and motivated, particularly enjoying their reward system. He earns points for completing assignments, which he can use to get rewards from their toy store. This system really incentivizes him to perform well.

Additionally, I appreciate how flexible and supportive Sylvan has been, particularly when there was a miscommunication regarding payments. They allowed me to make up for missed payments through smaller installments, demonstrating a willingness to accommodate our financial circumstances. We went from two sessions to one session a week until today. I finally got it caught up and my son's gonna start his normal schedule again. This flexibility exemplifies their commitment to both the students and their families.

In summary, Sylvan Learning has proven to be a remarkable choice. They have a dedicated staff who work to meet the needs of both students and their families, ensuring an enriching educational experience. So, when I was trying to find something to help my daughter, I tried them first and met with Colleen, the center director. She is upbeat and positive. We picked a plan. We went forward. And in the first year that we did this, my daughter who hates Math, and still does, did well. Out of all her grades last year, that was her highest one. So, the process works. We had gone through the tutoring that was offered at the school for free, and Sylvan is so much better.

Our daughter's teacher is seeing more of the growth than I'm seeing. But her attitude when it comes to learning is changing. It's going in a more positive direction. It used to be such a high level of frustration for her. As far as the feedback I'm getting from her reading teacher, she's moving forward. She's not with everyone else yet, but she's moving in the right direction.

I normally speak to the director, and we stay connected. I have the number to Sylvan as well as I have hers. She gave me her personal cell number in the event that the office is closed. She makes herself very accessible in the event that I have any questions or concerns. You can tell that she plays an active role in making sure that the kids and the parents are good. The only thing is the cost adds so fast being that it's two nights a week.

Sylvan Learning was the one that popped up in my head, so I went straight, researched it, looked it up, and contacted Liz out of the Oak Harbor office. She conference-called quickly. Two days later, my son was being evaluated in Oak Harbor. The following week, he started his tutoring sessions for Reading. The biggest thing is what my son feels and how comfortable he is. From the assessment right off the get-go, he was super excited about it.

The motivation station was one big thing that he enjoys, and getting the tokens. He hasn't been using any of his because his goal is to have more tokens than onen kid has. When we don't have a session, he would be upset about it. For example, last weekend, he does lacrosse, he had a tournament in Yakima, eastern Washington. They had to take off Friday morning. He cried and was upset that he would miss his tutoring sessions. So, he's enjoying it.

We had not told his teachers that he has been doing Sylvan, but they wanted to express how much he had been improving. His third grade teacher sent us an email and a follow-up letter, saying that there has been big advances in his reading. He doesn't have to sound out a lot of stuff. He comprehends a lot more. They didn't know how he has been progressing. We finally told them, “He's been going to Sylvan.” They said, “So, he's going twice a week?” “He's only doing once a week.” “Even then, it's big growth.” As a parent, I am happy and satisfied with that, to the point where now my 7th grade son is struggling with homework organization and turning in the assignments, so I've already reached out to Liz. We're gonna start doing the homework support for my 12-year-old.

My five-year-old daughter has expressed to us already that once she starts having homework, she would like to go because she heard all these kudos for my eight-year-old. She said, “I want that too.” We're gonna send my daughter when the time comes because we're happy with Sylvan. We have recommended it to various friends. Our neighbors have dinner with us four times a week at our house. Hunter's confident. He would bring out a book. My neighbors would notice how much he has been improving in Reading. They've been through this whole process with us. We ran all these ideas by them, but they have been noticing stuff.

I put my daughter in Sylvan Learning over the summer when I was finishing grad school. I needed something for her to do while I was in class, and she enjoyed it. She was doing math and reading during the summer program. She was below grade level when they tested her and then she improved to reach her grade level before entering the beginning of the school year.

My daughter goes twice a week and it's going good. The only issue that I have is that I noticed that the kids don't stay for the full hour, and we pay for the hour. My daughter's hours are from 6:00 to 7:00. They'll start her at 6:00, and a lot of times, they dismiss her between 6:50 and 6:55. It's been very consistent, and I feel like I'm losing my money.

I spoke with someone before and they said, "We can't have her start another test 'cause she's not gonna finish." I understand that. However, when a child's done with an activity and there's nothing else, I wish that they would mark the time down and give us that make-up time on a different day when they calculate it. These are minutes that I'm losing out on, and my child's losing out on those learning fundamentals. Every week, the amount of time my daughter's missing out on could range from 7 to 15 minutes and that adds up to an hour a month, an hour that I paid for.

They're happy and excited to be feeling more confident in the areas that were giving them problems before, so they recognize the benefits.

The director of the Southbury Sylvan is a teacher himself but he's also current with what the children should be learning. He's got testing protocols to compare results but he's always happy to look at testing results that the school gives and compare them to his own benchmark. So, he's academic about it and you can tell he has a lot of professional experience. The teachers are amazing. We're super happy with Sylvan. It's like a one-on-one time and much more intensive. The price is fine, especially for the level of effort and concern, and the involvement that they have.

Before we went with Sylvan Learning, we did an online tutoring last year. It was virtual and it was not as structured as Sylvan. They're in different tiers altogether. Sylvan has been significantly better. We did the reading and writing program for my daughter, and I've been seeing a lot of improvement with her. She has two different tutors, and they are both exceptional. One tutor started with reading and he gave the suggestion that my daughter would do better with a split program. Both of the tutors give very detailed reports at the end of each tutoring session on what they did, what was new, what they reviewed, and the different things that she did really well on or she needs to do a little more practice on.

I would definitely recommend Sylvan Learning. I would say, "If your child is struggling or just want some more reassurance and extra work or extra help, Sylvan is an amazing program. And it will start to change the way that your child feels about learning." I was worried when we started because my daughter did not like tutoring, but I am very surprised she always enjoys going. She is excited and she says that she likes it even when she's leaving.

I've always wanted my son to go to Sylvan. I never could afford it. But now, I can. They are cost-effective, and they offer payment arrangements. On his first day there, he was assessed and the assessment told us exactly what areas he needed to focus on to get him to where he needed to be. I really liked that. COVID messed him up a lot and he didn't do well with learning online so he missed a lot of concepts. With Sylvan, I like the teachers and the one-to-one attention. I also like the fact that they're meeting him where he is. He's doing Math and he's improved a lot. Normally, he would have an F. Right now he has a high C and he's been able to maintain that.

It's going well with Sylvan. My son likes it. He started with Sylvan three months ago, and he's learning new things. He's paying attention as well. He let me know yesterday that they did the reading and went over the main subject at school. He told me it was the same thing he learned at Sylvan. I was glad to hear that. Plus, they tested him when he first enrolled at Sylvan, and he got the same test score. I'm interested in the testing scores at the end of the year. When those first test scores hit, I'm gonna know whether it's working. My child is in third grade so he must pass his IREAD test to move forward. I expect some real results because he was not behind at all.

I would recommend Sylvan Learning. Their customer service has been wonderful. One of the reason that I made the decision is my cousin. They put her grandson in it a few years. He was struggling but Sylvan helped him a lot. He soared. I talked to her and she was really happy with the service. Sylvan is pricey, but they have payment plans. You can pay monthly as you go along, which is good, but we went ahead and paid it upfront.

I used, Sylvan Learning myself when I was a kid. I lived up in New York, and I got pushed on from grade to grade. I couldn't read until the fourth grade. Sylvan turned everything around. My parents put me into it and I ended up scoring a 1580 on my SATs and I now have my law degree and my MBA, so Sylvan was phenomenal. That's why I put my son in it when he started to not do so well in school as well just to get him ahead. I had the whole assessment done, Math two days a week, and he did reading and writing comprehension two days a week. They're one-on-one approach and able to help him. Caitlyn was their director. She was phenomenal. Antoinette was the assistant director and she also taught my son specifically in his reading and writing comprehension.

I had a problem with the Somerville location. The franchisee stole all of our money and shut the location down and took off. The director violated the franchise rights by abruptly closing the way she did, but no one is being held accountable. I don't know why she did, because she had owned the one in Somerville and owned four more in Texas for over 26 years of operation, abruptly closed them all, but hasn't refunded a single cent to any one of us parents. We are unable to get ahold of anyone. No one from corporate would return any phone calls. I've sent emails to the CEO of the company, and they were ignored. I'm a little frustrated.

Some of the parents are in the midst of a class action lawsuit. I'm filing a separate lawsuit myself because I'm an attorney. It's sad because Sylvan Learning is a great institution. Their staff is great. Their staff didn't even get paid their last two weeks. I was on the news about this. The news has run a couple of stories. They tried to reach out to both corporate and franchisee, and they were ignored as well.

He was able to do a lot of STEM-like activities when he was there, and he really liked the option to explore and to be creative.

We had our youngest skip a grade and we wanted to make sure he wasn't missing some of the things. When we needed some additional support in grammar, we knew that Sylvan was an option. He's just developing the confidence and feeling more comfortable about the subject matter, and he really loves going as well. It's never a chore to get him out of the car or to go. My son has a lot of anxiety, so he doesn't like a lot of crowds. They were good about accommodating a schedule where there were fewer children and very good about his needs. If he'd have to leave a little bit early, they were good about being flexible like that. He went for the summer, from June until the end of August. Right now, he is getting straight As, and he's doing well. But he needed a little bit of help in algebra. Sylvan's reps were fantastic and very easy to work with. They were also very good at showing results, which is always nice for a parent to see. They showed me that my kid was struggling in certain areas and how he was progressing. We were doing mostly English and writing with them before and my son's experience with them varied over the years. He had a tutor he really connected with and that was awesome because she really got him and motivated him. But it was hard to have that all the time and she quit. The other times, it was hard work for the kids and it wasn't something that my son would say that he couldn't wait to go.

But he loves rewards. That little token that they spend for a little toy is really motivating for the kids and it makes it fun to go knowing that they would be getting a little prize at the end, even as they grew up. Unfortunately, they didn't tell us they were closing down. It's sad because he had been saving up all of his reward tokens. He had the most tokens of anyone in Austin and he lost them all. I wish they would open up again because I still have 150 hours credit in my account. And the nearest place is almost an hour-and-45-minute drive. So, now I've lost money too as a human. If I don't hear anything about them reopening here, I will be contacting corporate and tell them that they need to reimburse me for those hours because this isn't goodwill.

I still have a $7,500 debt for services that aren't provided and that's what I'm not happy about.

He begrudgingly goes because he's got a lot going on but his reading level has improved a lot over the last two years. What I like about Sylvan is they go through certain metrics similar to the school metrics. You need to have ABC and D before you're at first grade level in reading. We haven't finished all our sessions yet but Sylvan is great. Her grades have gone up since we've been there and she's more confident. We saw the improvement when she started but we got her first progress report a couple of weeks ago and she had three A’s and a B. And that B was very close to being an A also. And that is the best report she's had. She loves Sylvan and likes the teachers where we're at. We go to the one in Nashville. She had a very bad experience in school last year because if the kids were talking, her teacher always blamed her. The teacher took their word for it. But her teacher this year is very positive, and with all the stuff that she's doing at Sylvan when they come out of school, they've got a smile on their face instead of looking like they almost wanna cry.

Last year, she was in third grade and that was the first year they took the EOGs. For the month before they were taking them, her teacher kept telling her she was gonna fail and she failed it by two points. But it was not enough to retain her in the third grade so she got to move on. But we've been very positive. Her sessions end in October and we're still thinking about signing up for some more sessions. We did 30 hours and we may do some more hours. So, we probably will. We wanna keep up with the progress we're making.

I have a young child that was going to a higher grade and wanted to fill in the gap during the summer while they were out of school. I paid Sylvan a visit and I thought they have a great program, especially the flexibility that they provide because you can determine what you think the emphasis should be. I asked them about the background of the faculty, and I appreciated that they are actual teachers or retired teachers that understand the curriculum requirements as well as the grade level needs and expectations. They're qualified professionals. They're certified in the field and not someone that just has it as a hobby.

Sylvan is easily accessible. All I had to do was text them and they would respond the same day or the next day if I texted them after hours. If I saw my son's grades and I felt there needed to be a little bit more emphasis on writing, then they would adjust to that. They would also call you with an assessment to let you know how they felt your child was doing and if there were any areas they wanted to know if you wanted them to focus on. Because my son also had SOLs coming up, I emphasized that I wanted them to help him with testing strategies and they incorporated that into the program as well.

My son is a hands-on learner and he loves education. He enjoyed the rewards program that they have. I'm an advocate of the Sylvan learning program. Communication is very important and they shape the program to what you feel your child's needs are. They mix that in with their professional expertise as well. They do a good job of breaking down the areas and not just say your child needs to work on his math. They'll say what areas they are going to focus on, like decimals, fractions, or three digit multiplication. It's not just an overall focus. It is very specific to your child's needs.

I like the way that Sylvan caters to the child's strengths as well as the areas where they need to improve. They also want you to be a part of the process and welcome your feedback because they wanna make sure that they're focusing on what you're paying for, and that they're targeting the areas that you are concerned about. It's almost like an a la carte program where you tell them what you want and they build the program towards what you feel the needs are for your child.

But I saw that Sylvan had a program and they were down the street while the Russian School of Mathematics at the time was all the way in Stokey. So, since Sylvan had a math program that was suitable for my child, I ended up working with them. But prior to Sylvan, I would do things with the Center for Talent Development and the University of Chicago Lab School. I signed him up for six-week sessions in the spring at the Center for Talent Development. On the other hand, the Lab School had full time three to six-week experiences or two-week experiences and I did that with him.

He liked going to Sylvan and the prizes, but sometimes he didn't want to go because he was still young. We had 81 sessions and sometimes we had to go three times a week to get to those numbers. So that was a little bit a lot for him. We did it from April to July and that was a long time for us. They ended up focusing on reading. My son learned to have more interest in reading and he ended up in the middle of the first grade level. They moved him up a level in this other reading program, so he showed progress.

In July, he was right where he was supposed to be going into the current grade level that he's in now. So Sylvan brought him all the way where he needed to be. My interaction with the people has been great and he likes everybody he has worked with. They've been wonderful and if we need them again in the future, we'll be back.

It was really easy to enroll in Sylvan. My son has really progressed quickly. So it's been a benefit to our family. It's been really great. It's a small group-focused approach to learning. My son utilizes them for reading and writing and he has progressed significantly since he started in March. But the app or the online experiences could be a little bit better. I am able to confirm the appointments that we have scheduled with them. But it'd be awesome if we could actually schedule appointments on the app or the website and if we could actually see their updates, like a progress report online. They don't currently have that right now.

I was trying to look for something outside of the classroom and Sylvan is the only outside classroom option in our area other than just a friend or family member. Also, we had a Sylvan here years ago and in the back of my mind that stood out. I contacted them to get an overview of how my daughter was doing outside of the school setting and her experience with them has been excellent. We've been doing it for about six months and she said that she wishes all of her teachers were like Sylvan. She really enjoyed her time there and it was very comprehensive. I was able to get a full picture of what her deficits were and what she was really good at.

She ended up being really good at language and reading, which no one had ever complimented her on. And that was how she started. The introduction was complimenting her on what she was really good at, then working on what she needed to work on. So, that was an unusual experience compared to the traditional school setting. Even though she's learning, there are incentives as well as very positive feedback from the tutoring, which she really enjoys. Sylvan's reps were also very professional, accessible, and kind overall. They were exceptional and I recommend anybody to go there.

I love that Sylvan is more one-on-one. So, it's like a smaller teacher to student ratio. Also, the kids had the opportunity to review homework or ask questions. I like that there was a curriculum that kept track of their learning and the objectives that were being met. So, I like the data that Sylvan offered. I had two kids with Sylvan. For my older one who was at sixth grade when she attended, she did Math. For my younger one who was in second grade, it was Reading. It helped that they had weekly practice. It was reinforced in the weekly tutoring, and I saw their grades go up. They were able to pass their state exams. So, it was a good additional support for them. I would highly recommend Sylvan. I'm very satisfied with the outcome. My second grader got out of there with a lot more confidence and we noticed a boost in his reading level.

Sylvan helped my child in reading. The spelling words, we didn't get a lot of that. But as far as reading and sounding out, they were very informative about a lot of things about making up sessions. The only reason I stopped is because middle school is a lot. I'm just making sure my child reads every night for at least an hour.

Everything was good in our experience. The only time I didn't like it was when this one teacher made a comment to my daughter that was inappropriate. And as her being a child, it was not encouraging. It was more discouraging. She said something like, "You didn't get it right." But other than that, the staff in Murfreesboro was great and very informative. Most of the teachers, with the exception of that one, were good. It is also very expensive, but it works as well. One thing I did disagree with, when you cancel, you have to do it in two weeks. But the two weeks, I was still billed and we didn't use the services and I don't remember them saying it upfront.

So all the years later, I have my little boy and look where we're at. He just turned seven when he started at Sylvan and at first, he was like, "Oh, no." But then they were so sweet and patient to him. He's reading better now. So that's been a positive for him.

There's always room for improvement when it comes to financial aspect. We're very blessed. We qualify for something called ATP through the Arizona Department Education Department. So he is fully funded to have tutoring. But I wish there was more scholarship opportunities through Sylvan. If kids are doing well, catch them doing well and give a $10 off. Something small is better than nothing. Just a little incentive like that would be incredibly helpful. Or you have somebody who, like myself, is a certified teacher where I could help out exchange for a financial break for tuition for my kids. So things like that to be more creative with tuition would be incredibly beneficial for Sylvan to build enrollment and for many other reasons.

They're very responsive and they pay attention to the details that we were requesting.

My daughter also had tutoring at her school but sometimes it is not that more personal one on one that she needed. I like Sylvan a lot better because it is a smaller group than the ones that are at school. Plus, it gives them another way of looking at things from the school. In one instance, the tutor at Sylvan didn't understand how they got the answer at school. Then, when my daughter took it back to school, the answer was wrong. So they found an error in that. Sylvan's reps are also very kind, respectful, and compassionate with the situations that we're in. Homework is frustrating and they really take that frustration out of it, especially for me as a parent. It's hard because I learned differently, so it's nice that they can put their set of eyes on it. Then we're not burning bridges with our kids on why they aren't passing.

There is Best Brains too and Sylvan Learning. So, I was looking for it. But somehow, that center was closed as well as the one next to my village. So, I have to go three villages away to get my son into the center. That was an inconvenience, but I wanted to go for Sylvan so I just drove him for two years, for 38 minutes every day, every class.

The enrollment process was easy. They have a standardized testing system where they evaluate the kid. It was just one session and in the next session, he started going to his classes for one hour. We started with Reading and now he's doing the Writing program. He has progressed well and the two teachers in the center are amazing. I’ve recommended Sylvan to many friends and the only problem they find is it's very far away. I plan on going back for my daughter. They had smaller groups at Sylvan. So, it was a lot easier for her to focus. I could tell the difference on her grades and her report cards. Even us doing homework together at home, I can tell from the understanding. Her state exams started to go up. She reached grade level for her reading.

The tutors at Sylvan were all nice and welcoming. They were willing to do the extra mile because I couldn't always afford both Math and Reading. So, when I switched to Math for my daughter, because she's at reading level, and they were like, "I think Math will be okay. And then at the last 10 minutes, we'll still read with her to kind of keep her up to par." So, I really appreciated that. The price I paid was decent, especially for it to be Sylvan. I went to Sylvan when I was younger and I'm 33. So, with a lot of inflation nowadays, I thought it was decent for who they are. It's affordable, and they give you certain payment plans.
