For the past four months, our incoming/outgoing mail has been either lost or arriving weeks late. We are an advertising company and depend on sending/receiving invoices on time, as well as checks. This has been impacting our business heavily. It is hard to rely on mail making it to where it should when it should. Our company cannot survive with the USPS as is. Not sure if it is just Michigan being hit like this due to layoffs or if there is another problem. But I am going to be writing letters to anyone who will listen. There must be a solution on the horizon. This affects the economy as well!

Bills we assumed as being paid in our system are not paid and we are now being threatened by our vendors, which will affect our Duns score. We pay our bills on time, but the checks do not arrive on time. We have income that has not arrived. We need this money to pay other people. Our entire business has been compromised by the mail issue.

For the last six months, most of my incoming mail has been sent back to sender, even though my post office box is open and paid for. My tax returns, injury lawyer mail, immigration mail, all have been sent back to sender. How do I know? The senders would call me saying that they have received their mail back since my "P.O. Box has been closed." So I finally decided to keep a track of all my mail being "sent back to sender." I would go to my lawyers and pick up the envelopes with the yellow tag that states that my box is closed in bold writing.

Go to my work, in payroll and they would give me my returned W-2 mail, with the same yellow label, "box closed". My immigration appointment letters, also, saying the same thing. I finally went to my post office each time, complaining to the box handler and the supervisor about the situation. All they could tell me each time is that it was not their fault and there was nothing they could do about it.

False adverting. No door-to-door delivery. Lost mail. Undo burden in having to prove you live in the zip code area to be permitted to pick up your own mail. First, the USPS advertises the Express Mail service as delivery to the door. People sending Express Mail to this post office are never told there is no direct to the door delivery yet they are charged for it. Tens of thousands of dollars are wasted annually by consumers using this service as well as Priority Mail.

To get a post office box without charge, a consumer must provide proof of residence which requires unnecessary time and effort. Recently we built a new home. We moved in and because there is no door-to-door delivery, had to go to the post office to register for a box. The clerk would not issue a box without a utility receipt. We were so new to the house we had not yet received a utility bill. The clerk then told us we had to bring in our mortgage documents. I protested and spoke to the Post Master of the branch. He could not tell us the source of the order for this 'official' requirement. He insisted upon the same production of docs.

Further, although a box holder must complete forms with detailed information about the location of their residence including telephone contacts, if mail or packages are sent through the USPS to the physical address of the box holder, the mail/packages are either returned to sender or dumped. The staff refuses to complete a computerized address/box number cross reference to ensure box holders get their mail. It's not that the branch does not have the capability to do the cross reference, they just plain refuse to do it. This costs the residence of this community and other users of the USPS hundreds if not millions of dollars annually in postal charges and lost merchandise.

I have been receiving someone else's mail several times now and someone is probably receiving mine. When I went to see the manager of the post office, he said, "Too bad." About two months later, I received some one else's mail again. When this happens, I think and say, if I'm receiving someone else's mail, then where is mine? And if he could just say "too bad," maybe someone should see him.

The carrier does not seem to be focused on delivering the mail. I have not received my unemployment check and it has been over two weeks. Last time, he put it in my neighbor's mail. He talks on the phone often so maybe that's why. His name is Cassie. I have complained before and the manager said that he would talk to him. I cannot afford for my checks to get lost for any reasons. I don't know for sure but I feel that it may be a retaliation for complaining. Anyway, they are going to do a trace on the check. On 3/2/2010, there was a new carrier on my route. I don't know what has happened with my old one but I hope that this matter is looked into and that supervisors are not taking revenge out on the customer for complaining.

I had placed order from Wellica Nutrition. The package was shipped but I never got it. According to USPS (see below), package was delivered but it was not. It cost $59. I tried to contact local USPS but they told me that package was delivered. I complained a few times. It did not work. But what is interesting is that I had to get to packages same day. One package I got but it was insured and signature was required. I never signed it. Post woman signed it for me. Why? It is my signature that should be in there not her. So what should I do? It's not the first time they did that. I lost $59 and humiliated by post office.

Some of the items returned were forms to be filled out for medical leave, insurance cards, checks, and now my 1099 form from my retirement income. I have talked with a person who called themselves the manager of the station in Midwest City. I have talked with my carrier. I have talked with consumer affairs. But no one has resolved the issue. I have missed very important mail and have had to pay late fees on bills that I never received because this post office refuses to send me mail. Many of the people posting complaints in this section (including whoever wrote the into) seem to think that the postal service uses taxpayer dollars to operate. Many of you seem to have legitimate issues with the USPS, but some of you need to get your facts straight. The USPS does not receive any taxpayer dollars to operate. Your taxes do not pay the salaries of anyone who works for the Post Office.

I never received an item that was shipped first class with a tracking number, but every time I spoke to my post office, it became my problem. I have been told every story possible without results. I have talked to more than five people and can’t get an answer. The trail went cold at my local post office, and just the other day I received mail that did not belong to me. So I’m thinking that's just what happened to my mail as well. This has me upset, to say the least. I need someone to check into this and give me an answer! I have called Action 6 News and have emailed the postal service and now Consumer Affairs. I have to keep going until I get results. This item is worth $150.00. I’m sure you can understand my concern! Thanks!

I was expecting a certified letter with a check for $17,000 in it. On 2/6/10, I asked Mr. L how long it takes for a certified letter to get from Pittsburgh to Emerald Isle. He stated around 3-5 days. On 2/10/10, my cousin mailed the letter. I was out of town that weekend and on President’s Day, I checked my box and no slip was there for pickup. I work 10 hour days, so Thursday, the 18th, was the first chance to check. Jim, at the counter, said there wasn't any letter and asked for a tracking number. He looked it up and said it arrived Friday the 12th, was undeliverable and forwarded. I asked forwarded to where? He said he didn't know. I called my cousin and the only addresses on the letter were hers and mine. There wasn't anywhere to forward the letter to. He said he didn't know without seeing the letter.

The gravity of the situation is this: It took 2 and 1/2 years for my aunt to give us the money my uncle left in his will. Even then, she had to be taken to court to disperse the money. To get her to reissue the check will be next to impossible. I have had this PO Box there since 1996. They know who I am since I get many items delivered to that address. I also have my street address that items come too. It looks like Jim or Tom scanned it at 10:04 as undeliverable and 10:05 forward. No one thought to match the name with the right address even if it scanned different?

How rushed were they? This is a small beach community with less than 2,000 people at this time of year. Someone probably wanted a smoke break and in turn ruined my life. Both of them told me stories when confronted with me asking why it was forwarded. I filed a complaint with the postal service CA 101365201. I also called NC consumer advocate. They tried to call, but the office closes at 1600.

Finally found out what happened through the NC consumer advocate on Tuesday 2/23/10. The letter scanned as PO Box 606 instead of 4606. Even so, they know me and could have held it until they checked with me. A certified letter is more important than a regular letter you would think. The real problem is that instead of scanning "return to sender" it was scanned as "forward". Now who knows where the letter is. I tried to call the Central Forwarding Service markup unit in Charlotte. It's not there, in Atlanta or Minneapolis, not there either.

I called the US Postal Service yesterday and they reissued another complaint. There was a note there that Tom said he talked to the Belle V office and me. So what? Is that the extent of the investigation? I want someone held accountable. I work at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune and take care of marines, sailors and their families. I work in the laboratory and if I did my job the way those two did, there would be a dire outcome. No one cares and is not held accountable. I called US Postal service today and they really don't care either. I feel that there is nothing anyone can do because the letter is probably dead mail by now. It hasn't been scanned since Feb 12th.

I mailed a package on 02/04/2010 from the Sault Post office 49783 at 9:37 am to Canada and it did not arrive at all. So I called the 800 number they gave me. They told me there is nothing they can do about it since it was only First Class mail, that once I drop it off and pay for it, it is no longer their problem. If it gets delivered, it gets delivered; if not, they can throw it away, take it home or deliver if they feel like it. I then talked to the local post office in the Sault here and the guy named Bill, a supervisor, goes on to tell the same thing that once I pay for it, there is nothing anyone can do. If it gets to the other end, it gets there. Oh well, pretty much my customer is unhappy because they did not get the package they ordered and I had to refund their money.

So now, I am out my money, my package and Postage on top of that and all they can say was the service you selected is pretty much no good because items come up missing. There is nothing any one can do. I asked the guy, so the contract they gave me is no good, and he said yes it is no good unless I were to use the more expensive service. That the piece of paper I had for a receipt is not a contract, that is is just too bad and he tells me to call the 800 number. The 800 number tells me to call him. I ask to file a lost item claim; they refused because of the service I used. They want me to spend $40 for delivery fees to mail a four ounce package. What can I do? Is this a lawsuit? Please let me know, thanks and God bless.

I shipped an item with a value of $100 approximately with USPS on January 27, 2010 from Peoria, Illinois to Houston, Texas. The item is a book I was returning for a refund. I shipped the item without insurance using parcel service. I have the delivery confirmation number. Two weeks later, I realized that i haven't been refunded for my book by the seller so I went on the USPS website to check the status of the item. The item then was still in transit and until today, it still has the same status.

It has been almost a month now since I shipped the item. I called the 1-800 and talked to a USPS representative, they couldn't tell me much about my item but they gave me a case number and told me that someone will contact me in two business days. Four or five days later, a guy from a local USPS office here in town called me and told me the same thing the representative told me when I called. He also said that the package ended up in Iowa and that they don't know anything else about it. The guy said he will check into it and call me back. A week went by without hearing from the guy, so I called the USPS number again and I found out that they closed the case. The representative told me that since I had no insurance, they cannot refund me or do anything more about it.

Just to be nice, she opened a new case to search for my item in Iowa. I feel completely ripped off by the USPS. I cannot understand how they can provide such a service and lose my package and do nothing about it. I understand that I didn't have insurance on my package, but that doesn't mean they can just lose it and do nothing about it. I feel like a guy that works for the USPS can just like a package that is not insured and just take it, because the USPS won't do anything about it.

I recently bought a home and forwarded my mail the same day I closed on the home which was Jan 12, 2010. The start date was Jan 22, 2010. I knew that forwarded mail may take a while until I received it. I was told 7-14 business days. In the meantime, I never received a confirmation number from USPS. I called the local Post Office here in my small town of 700 to find out where my mail may have been and I was told to file a COA online which cost $1. I did just that and still hadn't gotten anything.

On Feb 12, 2010, I sent a complaint to USPS via the website. I had a call 2 days later from the local Postmaster again stating that I would be receiving a letter stating that the USPS was sorry to learn of my inconvenience and that my mail should start coming 14-21 business days from the effective date which was Jan 22, 2010. Any mail that came to the local Post Office would have to be mailed back to Bloomington, IL and then sent back again. That should take no longer than 4 days.

On Fri. Feb 19th, I still haven't received anything, I phoned the USPS Complaint line and once again took the time out to explain everything I have already been through and once again was told I would be contacted in 2 business days. I received a forwarded letter on Feb 20th, 2010 that was postmarked Feb 16th, 2010.

On Mon. Feb 21, I hadn't received any forwarded mail but had gotten 3 magazines that were sent to my old address but didn't have a forwarding sticker on them. I even got one from the previous address that I had many years before this past address. I once again called USPS and put in another complaint. It was then turned over to CA and I was told that I would be contacted with 48 hours. I have since gotten a piece of mail that was postmarked on Feb 2, 2010 which was a bill and, of course, overdue thanks to the USPS.

I honestly believe that because I live in a small community and people get so uptight over the littlest things that because I complained 3x on this matter, my mail is being held until the postmaster feels they should send it. Well, here it is 22 business days and I am still not receiving what I normally would have gotten 10 days ago (which is my form of living). Someone needs to be liable for paying my overdue bills on time because of negligence on USPS.

On February 4, 2010, I mailed three priority mail packages at the Durham, NC post office. One package for Alaska, another for New York, and the third for Seattle. Both packages for Alaska and New York were received, but the package for Seattle was never received. I had the packages insured, and the post person asked if I wanted signature confirmation, and I declined. What she didn't tell me was that insuring the packages is useless without the written confirmation.

They also did not explain that unless the package is insured for $200, a signature is not required "unless you pay for the $200 insurance." I guess, this is another way for the US Postal Service to make money. They claim the package was delivered and would not give my money back for insurance. It seems I have no other recourse but to stop using the postal service for sending packages. I wish we had an alternative way to send regular mail too. I ordered a gift for some from a company located in California. The order was filled, the item was sent in first class mail with delivery confirmation, and I tracked it. The item was processed through the Los Angeles sort facility on February 11, 2010. There was no further update. On February 18, I contacted the post office and I was told that they could open an investigation, as the package should not have taken that long to get from California to New York. I was assured by the representative I spoke with that I would receive a call back with an update within 2 business days and that since my local branch was open on Saturdays, it would count as a business day. On the second business day, when I had heard nothing, I called back and I was told that there were no updates. The representative was incorrect and I would not be receiving a call back until February 23, the reported due date on the investigation.

When I asked the representative what the next step would be should the post office be unable to locate my package, she informed me that she did not have that information. When I asked who I could speak to regarding that information, she claimed to not have that information. Three more calendar days passed and there was still no call from the post office. I called today, February 23, and I spoke with a representative who again informed me that there was no update but that I would receive a call by the end of the day since it was the due date.

I asked her what would happen if the package was not found and she informed me that since I had not bothered to purchase insurance which is not an option when purchasing from the company in California, the post office was not legally responsible for compensating me. I informed her that it was unacceptable since they had been responsible for losing my package and she told me that it wasn't a legal concern of the post office. I pointed out that their lack of concern for my package was akin to them waiting until 5 pm on the 23rd then throwing their hands up in the air and saying "oh well". She then informed me that they would continue to search for the package past the due date, at which point I asked her what exactly the due date was. She did not know.

I asked her to contact a supervisor who did know and I was told that the lines were too busy and she was unable to contact her supervisor. The level of service, if it can even be called that, has been appalling. The post office refuses to take responsibility for losing the package and has basically taken an "oh well" approach to the entire situation. The representatives have been rude, uninformed, and basically unwilling to help regarding the matter. I have contacted the shipping company and they have offered to send a replacement package while filing a claim with the post office. I'm actually worried that the replacement won't show up either. Unfortunately, this package was an important gift for someone. Because of the post offices' incompetence in doing their job, I was unable to give this gift. It was an extremely disappointing turn of events.

I have to go to this PO every Saturday since the hours changed and they no longer open at 8:00 during the week. What a chore it is every Saturday. The "call window" when you're just there to pick up a package is always closed. Everyone is standing on one line (and I mean there's always 25-30 on the line) and usually just two employees working the window. This means they are taking care of money orders, stamps, packages and everything else people may need. I spend at least 20-30 minutes every Saturday just to pick up a package. It's ridiculous. Today in particular...only one employee at the window for my first 15 minutes on line.

Finally someone else opens up and the other one goes on break! Are you kidding me!? There was almost a revolt on line with the line getting longer and longer. Meanwhile there are at least 4-5 people in the back peeking their heads out listening and seeing what's going on. Thankfully, (30 minutes in) someone finally comes to the "package window" and seriously, 3/4 of the line moved over to that window. When all you need to do is pick up a package it's ridiculous to wait 30 minutes or longer when there are so many employees standing around doing nothing. The workers seem to have the "I don't care how long you're here" attitude. I hate this PO but there's little recourse for me. I have to put up with it week after week. Short of being late for my job one day a week, what am I to do? I don't usually complain because it probably won't do any good but this is so wrong. Not sure whether it's the location (poor neighborhood) that they think it's OK to treat people like this but it's just so wrong.

It is not just one or two people, it is the whole two block area from 7528 Harrison to Charlotte to Holmes.

I have had small amounts of cash from Aunts and Grandmothers who believe in the mail system, go missing. I have had insurance claim paperwork for renewal of my disability income from Met Life go to another address and get marked "person does not live here". Luckily I have gotten a second notice that made it to the right address so I could get the forms back in time.

On February 13, 2010, I delivered and paid for priority mail package to New Jersey. An employee revised the package and charged $5.65 for the service, including delivery confirmation. February 15 was a holiday, so we expected delivery at the destination on the 16th, only to find out through their site that they had instead misdelivered to Lancaster, PA on the 15th!

I went back to the post office to ask how they would fix their error, and the same employee was disrespectful and offensive in trying to blame either sender or receiver for the error and also indicating that there was nothing they would do.

One whole week went by with no mail delivery and when we did finally get our mail, it was not a week's worth. I fear mail theft or identity theft. This week, for example: no mail on Sunday (USPS closed), no mail on Monday (National Holiday), no mail on Tuesday (unacceptable), no mail on Wednesday (unacceptable). I fear we are missing bills, important correspondence, and other necessary items.

We live in a small cul-de-sac, and she will not deliver when cars are parked on the street or on trash day. Mind you, the boxes are never blocked by at least 15 feet. She refused. She also wrote comments on our mail and told us to parallel park, which is impossible because we would be blocking the neighbors from parking. When I spoke to my neighbors, they said she always refuses to deliver.

I have made several complaints, and it seems it gets worse with each complaint, as we are now down to getting mail only twice a week. I would be more than happy to supply photos to support my argument. Oh I forgot, they also once suggested I just pay for a post box. I presently have two post office boxes in the Newton, New Jersey post office. One box ** is personal mail and post office box ** is business. The 8xx box I have had over 20 years the ** box over 11 years. The personnel in the post office staff are very familiar with me. The fees on my personal account became due. At the time I wanted to pay my fees to Anna, I was told it was too soon. She could not accept payment. The post office in general has cut back their services that the line is out the door all of the time with only one person on the desk, making people wait approximately 1/2 hour to process any mail problems. In the past several weeks the line out the door did not give me enough time to spend and wait for the poor one person left at the desk to handle it all.

Another time I was told by Jim at the desk that I had to get in line after waiting 40 minutes to get to him to pay my fees. I walked out zero. This is service? I didn't have another 40 minutes to wait for services. Today I went to pay my fees for box ** to be told that I would have to pay an additional fee to get my mail. I requested a change of address form to forward my mail to PO box ** and requested my mail from Chip. I was refused access to my mail even after forwarding paperwork was handed to the employee.

The past history of this post office leaves a lot to be desired. As it is, the post office box fees are double the fees in the neighboring post offices (Andover, Greendell, Tranquaility, Branchville, etc.) with the worse service possible. In the past twenty five years I have had the following problems with this post office which has created financial problems. The rural delivery clerk, when my mail shows both my street address and PO box, she returned the mail to sender. As a result I have had additional late fees, return credit cards and funds send to unclaimed property in the state of New Jersey. Today was enough: this post office has caused both a financial and physical hardship by their actions. I expect to have my present mail forwarded to the other PO box in the Newton post office immediately. I want to know what legal action I can take.

I moved to Waukegan on November 2009. The first incident happened a few weeks later while expecting overnight urgent documents. The postman rang the bell and I answered and went downstairs to meet. He was already gone and left a notice. I called the 800 number to file a complaint. They told me a manager from Waukegan would contact me which never happen. I went to the post office. I spoke to the manager. He said he would speak to his employee.

On January 15 I received another orange notice and letter from my car insurance dated the January 3, 2010, which requested me to call them in the next day. I received the mail in the 15th. I called and they claimed that letter was mail the 3rd and my insurance was cancelled because of it. The next day (16th) I went to the office and I spoke to another manager in the Waukegan office. He rudely stated that there was no way I could prove the mailman left the note and letter on time and that I should check my mail more often which I do. The notice was a package from an unknown sender and they couldn’t find it in that office or prove that it was returned back.

On 2/11 I went to check my mail and I saw another orange notice on 2/12. I went to the post office and I spoke to the manager, who assured me that he was going to speak to the mail carrier and he was going to call me back which he never did. On 2/13 I received a mail from the mail man and I taught everything was fixed, but on 2/14 I went to check my mail and I found an orange notice dated 2/11. I work from home, so receiving or checking my mail at least every other day is a must and the parcel and letter are very important and are urgent matter. In August of 2009, I started receiving unemployment checks. I was receiving my checks on time up until January 11. This was the first check that I didn't receive and still haven't received. I called unemployment first to make sure it was nothing on their end. After I established that it was not unemployment fault, I then placed a call to my local mailing station which is located in Suitland.

I spoke with Mr. R. who was the supervisor on duty at the time of call. I explained to him that, I have been waiting for an unemployment check that has not yet been delivered which was supposed to come the week before. He basically said there is nothing they can do, all the mail that was at the office has been delivered for that day. I then responded letting him know that I have put another claim in for the week that was coming. Mr. R. said wait to see if I get that one and if not then to give unemployment call.

At this time, I explained to Mr. R. that there was someone else other than the regular carrier delivering that day and could it be possible she might have placed my mail somewhere else. Mr. R. then stated that that couldn't have happened and he honestly thinks unemployment didn't mail anything. With knowing this, I ended the conversation with Mr. R. due to the fact he was not trying to assist me in finding the problem.

The next day, I saw my regular mail carrier and thanked her for assisting me in trying to find my check. At this time, she stated to me that she talked to Mr. R. about the problem due to the fact they had a lot of complaint when she wasn't working. And she also stated that my check was not the only check lost. Another gentlemen that lives in my complex was waiting for a Certified check and never received his as well. After talking to my regular post person, I asked her is there someone I could speak with over Mr. R. and she directed me to the postmaster.

I placed a call to where the postmaster was and had to leave my complaint with someone else because Mr. J. was not available and would call back. Mr. J. never returned my calls nor was he available when I called each time to see if he got my complaint. After not receiving that check, I had to place a stop payment on that check. I did receive the one for the next week and the week after.

Now I am back to the same problem again. This time, its not one check, it is two checks. The first was mailed 1/30/10 and the second one was mailed 2/2/10. I have yet to receive either one of those checks. Once again I had to place another call to USPS asking to speak with management and this time the manager on duty was Mrs. L. I explained to Mrs. L., that I have yet to receive two unemployment checks. She basically brushed it off saying that there is nothing they can do because they don't hold mail and my mail isn't there. She asked me did I talk to my carrier and I stated to her that my carrier is more on point than your station. I also informed Mrs. L. that the carrier has been knocking on my door to let me know that my check has not come. I also explained to Mrs. L., that these were not the only checks I haven't received.

This will make the third check I haven't received. Mrs. L. basically brushed it off. She was of no help and she became very rude when I stated to her that I had proof that my checks were mailed. She laughed and said that won't help and there was nothing else she can do. I hung up with Mrs. L. and placed another call to the postmaster Mr. J. and as usual Mr. J. is or was never available. I left my phone number for the fifth time and have yet to receive a call from anyone. And when I call, I am just getting rushed off the phone and being told there is nothing they can do, only Mr. J. can take care of the situation.

I am fed up with dealing with unprofessional people and I would like to take matters further. The mail that I am receiving is not just any mail. It is mail to help provide a roof and other things needed for my children. And I am not understanding why, if I have been receiving my checks on time before, now I don't have three. USPS has no explanation for anything and needs to take responsibility for the matter at hand. The fact is my social security number is on each check and could be used. Also. please be advise. I am not the only one that has a complaint about this particular postal location. Also our regular mail carrier is very good at what she does. She goes out of her way to make me aware of something she doesn't have to. She is doing the best she can to help resolve the matter and I have no complaints with her! And to make matters worse, my job check had to be mailed and I received that today. So where are my other three unemployment checks?

Mail is being delivered to me on a very erratic schedule. I have both a PO Box and a physical address. I travel a lot, and I didn't pick up the mail from the PO Box for about a week. When I got there, the key didn't work. I asked the clerk for assistance and she told me that the box was closed for non-payment. Apparently, I missed the "Pay By" note that they usually put in the box. So, they changed the key. But, they had my mail. I paid for the box, plus a "restoration" fee and got my mail.

The following week, I got one piece of mail addressed to occupant for the entire week. So, I went to the counter and asked for the postmaster. Joyce (not the postmaster) came out and told me that my mail box was marked closed with no forwarding address and all of my mail was being returned to the central office and to the senders. She told me that it would be corrected in a day or two. The following week, I received two items at my home address that were marked PO Box **.

This time my husband went to the post office. Again, he saw Joyce and she told him that for some reason it was not re-opened, but that she would make sure it was fixed. She took a letter to show that it was returned to sender from the day before. The following week, I got an electric bill and nothing else. Normally, it might not be such a large problem, but I didn't get any of my tax information. A small check was also "returned to sender. " Again, I went to the counter and asked for the Postmaster. I told him everything that happened and he "assured" me that it would be fixed and I would get my mail the following day. That was over a week ago. The only thing I had in either mailbox is an advertisement for a gym. In addition, I had a certified letter from one of my employers addressed to **. The address was crossed out and Box ** was written.

I purchased my home in 2000. I was here less than a year before I stopped receiving mail. Days would go by and nothing would arrive. I contacted the postmaster and was told a dog was loose. I asked why I had not been notified and no answer was given. I had a blind dog with cancer that would escape the backyard to sit on the porch. Although she may have been startled by the mailman, she loved men so she never was a threat. I received a bundle of mail with a scrawl "dog loose" written by the mail carrier the next day.

Shortly after that, the mail carrier approached me at the gate to my backyard and threatened to stop delivering my mail permanently. He told me he would no longer deliver my mail if the front door was open, even if the storm door was locked. He was hostile. I did not respond but contacted the postmaster again. He told me that it was legal for him not to do so if he perceived a threat. This was complete nonsense and the mail carrier had targeted me specifically. I watched him deliver the mail to all the neighbors across the street with dogs and with their doors open. Everytime a substitute carrier works in his place, I get my mail. In recent years, it has been substitute carriers often. I have changed all my bills to electronic. I have had mail forwarded to other addresses just to ensure I get my mail.

The dog died and ten years has gone by and in the last month, he has decided to stop delivering my mail again. There has been a lot of snow and I have shoveled as much as I can. I got a hiatal hernia shoveling and it is very painful to shovel more now. It is not unsafe. I watch old ladies walk their dogs on my sidewalk and I walk to my car in high heels with no problem. Yet I know that the postmaster will support this arrogant mail carrier and say I haven't shoveled enough or put enough salt down or whatever defense they choose. When I called the USPS today, they told me I would have to file with Consumer Affairs to even find out where my mail is.

Isn't this a federal agency? Shouldn't they be accountable to the citizens? The fact is my mail carrier has denied me my property, left no notice as to why and has created a hostile environment for me in my own home for a full decade. I have not received my unemployment checks, tax documents and God knows what else.

I have a complaint about not receiving packages that are sent to me from various family members from New York and West Virginia. I have been experiencing problems with the post office here, as long as I have lived in Mooresville, almost 2 1/2 years now. From not getting bills to not getting the priority mail in the standard 3-5 days. The first package that was sent to me was sent in October of 2009. It was sent from Walton, NY, and it was sent priority mail. My mail box is in a complex, so the box is not as big as a standard size mailbox. I received a note on my door, that the package was at the post office for pickup.

I went to the post office the next day, and they claimed they could not find it. I then received another note on my door two days later, so I went down to the post office again, and they still could not locate the package. They ended up sending the package back to my Aunt in New York. She then sent it through FedEx, and I then received my package in a timely manner. Then I was sent a package by a family member from West Virginia, over Christmas. I have yet to receive that package that was sent priority mail.

I called the Post Office in Mooresville, and they said that I should wait a little longer, because of the weather over Christmas, so I did. I still have not received the package, and my family member from West Virginia, has yet to get it back. This last package was sent by my mother from Walton, NY. This priority mail package contained a money order for $100.00. She sent it out on February 3rd, and it is now February 11th. I have still not received the priority mail package. I am not sure who exactly to complain to, but there are some very important packages that somehow seem to be getting lost, undelivered and forgotten. I am just thankful that I am not getting any of my prescriptions through the mail. This situation needs to be resolved quickly, I can not keep not getting my mail. I had at one point lived at **, and I went through the same sort of mail service of not getting letters from doctors, bills, and priority mail packages.

I know for a fact that the mail being sent to me does not have the wrong name or address. We are talking about family members, and doctors, and electric companies that very rarely, if ever have an address on a bill wrong. Please help me in this matter. I need to be confident that I can get my mail along with other North Carolina residents in a timely and professional fashion. The damage is worth $100.00 of someone's money that was lost or stolen, a Christmas present worth about $50.00 is gone and nowhere to be found, and utility bills aren't getting paid in a timely fashion due to not being delieverd. I can not be the only person that this is happened to, and I have never been so frustrated or concerened about not getting my mail. Opening someone else's mail is a federal offense, so I hope that there is not someone out there with $100.00, and a Christmas present of mine.

However, when he is on off, or they have him delivering mail instead of just his pickups, I always have a problem getting my mail picked up when I call to see if am going to be picked up. When my driver does not show up on time, Mrs. ** has answered the phone for me, and has always, and always had a very bad attitude, and does not care whether my mail gets picked up or not. I explained to her that on the 6th, I had 3 tubs completely full of mail, and several boxes, and that no one picked up my mail. All she said was your, "driver will be there". He never showed up.

On Monday the 8th, I again spoke to her and she had a nasty attitude again, and still did not send anyone out to collect my mail. Finally, around 5:30, my regular driver shows up and said they had him doing someone else's route, but he still showed up. I then had 5 tubs and more boxes. I also asked her if she can provide me with a fax number, to where I can fax my mail box rental applications for mail forwarding, and she could not help me. She then said to call back on Monday, and speak to such and such person, who handles the mailboxes. On Monday, I called again and was given the same answer again by Mrs. **, to call back on Tuesday.

This is aggravating. I give the USPS nearly $30,000.00 worth of business a year, and I don't believe I should have to go through this, just to get my customers mail picked up, if my driver is being put to do others' routes, or when he is not on duty. This is a major concern with me, that she is supposed to be in charge here, yet does not care, nor provides good services. Medications and other important pieces of mail, priority mail, express mail documents, both domestic and international, do not get to patients or other recipients, so this is a problem.

Nevertheless, the Postal Service will not give me a refund. PayPal will also not give me a refund because they said that the post office is responsible. The post office says PayPal is responsible. Pitney Bowes says that the post office is responsible, even Click and Ship says postal service is responsible. So basically, I pay $84.79 for a label that didn't go anywhere.

I think this is how the post office makes money off of taxpayers. This money is probably going in some CEO's pocket, and the bad part is once they tell you no, they will not tell you the next level to go. It stops with consumer affairs, no means no and it's my fault.

For the second time in 6 months, I have had a package sent via USPS (with a tracking number). It never arrived at its destination. In both of these cases, the status trail just "stopped" and the package was never received. The last one seemed to go back and forth between two offices for a number of days where the trail finally went cold. I do believe the employees are stealing on a regular basis for this to happen to me twice alone.

Their customer service is completely unresponsive and unapologetic about it as well, leading me to believe this is so rampant the employees have been numbed to the implications. Do not use the post office to mail anything other than letters as you have no choice there, and even then, use email and fax when possible. Put them out of business. That is what needs to happen. First time, I lost a cell phone valued at $150 being returned to provider. The second time, I lost $125 in items intended for a baby shower that I will now have to replace at additional cost with no time left to replace and receive what was initially purchased.

Apparently the computer system went down and I was to be called back by supervisor.

They say the label must have fallen off. I explained the package contents and they knew of the item. I then with the postmaster filled out a form to have them mail the package back to me. The postmaster said there is nothing else he can do in the matter. The package was described perfect and being Christmas gifts, they were all marked with names on them. Does the post office really try to locate the package, or do they just keep the gifts and spend the gift cards? How can I get this package back? Please help.

On November 9th, a package was shipped to me from this post office. I started actively tracking the package on December 9th, thinking that one month was a descent amount of time for delivery. Since then, I've had nothing but frustration with this package. I've had my local post office call me, saying they can't help because the package hasn't been delivered to them yet. I've had to file three complaints before consumer affairs became involved, and they referred me back to my local post office (who of course can't help).

After the third ground, my local post office manager told me to call 1-800-ASK-USPS to find the number for the shipping post office (the one in Boston mentioned above). I called them on the 26th of January, and was promised a call back within 2-3 working days. Nine days later, I called them back. They transferred me to the supervisor of the last machine it was sorted on. She told me they run 800,000 pieces of mail on that machine daily. She was at least courteous and helpful. I was then directed back to Consumer Affairs, who told me so much time had elapsed that I was pretty much out of luck. I was told the Mail Recovery Center would contact me if they found it. The run around here is truly staggering. Only once or twice in all of this mess have I felt that anyone wanted to do anything more than get me off the phone. I don't know where to turn from here.

I have made repeated phone calls to the post office and they have told me that my mail is in a warehouse in San Antonio (about 90 miles away) and that it may take up to two weeks to get it to me.

I haven't received more than a couple of pieces of mail in two weeks. I have medical prescriptions which I need now, W-2 form and other tax documents, mortgage and utility bills, and money in birthday cards, all missing in the mail. I have already had to pay late fees incurred because of utility bills not being paid on time. I am without my medications. The staff at that post office do not seem to care about my problem, which they admit was their fault, are doing nothing to expedite the return of my mail. Why does it take two weeks to move that mail 90 miles? They have responded to my understandable frustration by raising their voices, yelling at me, and asking me repeatedly what it is I expect them to do about it.

At this time, I have not received any of my back mail, and have received only two pieces of mail all week (including junk mail) which has caused me to worry that the problem has not been fixed and my mail is still not being delivered.

He instructed me to go to another location, but I didn't want another location, this post office was nearest to my house.

If it is a policy or procedure by the post office to leave packages at apartment doors, then can't the policy be changed to leaving a postal slip in one's mailbox, so that would ensure a more secure way for the consumer to get their products. This procedure makes me wonder if the postal carriers are stealing a lot of items that they claim to have left at a resident's door. They supposedly don't have to have a signature, so how would the consumer know if they ever left it.

So I was expecting a parcel/package from a close family friend from whom I purchased some awesome hand-made jewelery (not really expensive stuff, totally not worth stealing). She lives in MN, so she decided to send it USPS, since neither of us had ever had a problem shipping or receiving from them before and it was cheaper than sending UPS or FedEx. She told me she put the contents in a small white hard box, placed them in a manila parcel envelope, and completely sealed the flap and even added tons of tape.

When I check my mailbox, my brain didn't comprehend what that package was at first. The manila envelope was completely ripped in half. Clearly, someone had ripped it open to steal the contents out. You could still see the square indention from the box. What is the most ridiculous thing is that whoever tampered with it decided to replace my box of jewelry with 2 CDs for the 2006 surveys for N. Carolina Department of Transportation, as if I wouldn't notice.

I was dumbfounded. I thought maybe it was mail sent to the wrong box at first, which happens. But I saw my friend's handwriting and her address, and I became so upset! It had a big red sticker saying the contents were fragile, so if it had been damaged on its trip, obviously, no one paid attention to that big red sticker! What makes me the most upset is that how the mail carriers or workers at the post office can see something like this and still decide to deliver it without a second glance?!

All they do is stick a little sticker claiming it was received by them unsealed. My friend's tape was still there, unharmed! It was not unsealed; it was ripped open! So according to them, somewhere between MN and CA, the envelope magically ripped in half (I'm talking completely gouged open), and my contents fell out and were replaced magically by 2 CDs that somehow made it the rest of the way? Ridiculous! Are there no honest people these days?

After I was finished with the product, I shipped it out back to Ambumed via USPS. Since I never heard back from Ambumed as to receiving the package I sent, I assumed they had received it and thus threw out the tracking number. However, three weeks ago, I received a call from Ambumed that they never received my package.

I've told them it was shipped out and they should have gotten it at least within a few days if not a few weeks. It has been three months since I shipped out that package now and I cannot locate it since I do not have a tracking number. I went to the USPS Parsippany branch and asked if they could help me. They said they cannot do anything regarding the package. I provided all the information I had shipped from and shipped to including the contents of my package. Isn’t USPS supposed to be responsible for getting my package from point A to point B? I cannot seem to find anyone that can help me in this.

My missing the package have resulted in me being charged by Ambumed for the EKG monitor at a cost of $300. I by no means can just afford something to that great amount for something I do not have. I followed the instructions and shipped the package out, and now I am the one paying for something USPS should have managed to get to the intended location.

I know this is going to sound awkward, but please do not judge or be rude about what I am saying. I am an employee of the USPS. It really hurts to know that I love my job and my customers as much as I do and have people that feel horrible about us. Please don't assume that because your experience is bad, everyone that works here is all the same. I take pride in my job and am doing what I can for my customers. I try to treat my customers as I would want them to treat me. I have made friends with a lot of people on my route and try to learn everyone's thoughts on what can be done to better things on my end. I choose to do this because I love it.

I have worked for the post office over 5 years and full time for over a year. I have been thanked many times for doing a great job after the other lady retired. She was someone that had a lot of complaints about. Sometimes we do have bad days such as when we work sick, the mail truck is 2 hours late getting us our items to get to you, or something is going on in our lives that keeps running over in our minds. We have customers that have bad days also. I try to keep my chin up and put myself in their shoes. We should all do that. I just want you to know that not everyone is inconsiderate of others. I also want you to know that we are human beings and if someone just smiles and said thank you once in a while, it really makes us feel appreciated.

There are a lot of things that people don't understand about our jobs, though. I work 6 days a week for 7 or more hours a day with no break! We have to sort our own mail, organize it according to delivery, count the items (letters, catalogs, parcels, etc.), log information, sign a form for every move we make, keep track of miles, load it into our vehicles, and try to deliver it to the right place on time every time, and then do it when we get back in from our routes. As a rural carrier, I have to provide my own vehicle, insurance, etc. That isn't cheap. I do agree that there are people out there that only work for the money. It isn't that great, either, when you have to pay for all the expenses just to have the job like I do. Also, I don't get paid by the hour. If my route is evaluated at 7 hours and I work 12, I get paid for the 7 hours. Then, I get in trouble for not getting it done in time.

Rural carriers go through a route count once a year. If our mail is low for that 2 week period of time, which it usually is, we have to deal with the pay we are given for it for the next year. Most of us work hard, but do make mistakes. We have subs that don't care as much as we do. That is difficult for the regular carriers. I do everything I can think of to make my subs’ job easier, but he/she tends to not care. I put names in boxes, color code things, etc., but there is no getting him to care as much as I do. There are a lot of complaints when I take a day off. I hate to take off work because of that. It frustrates me seeing the mess that was created while I was away.

Not everything is in our control though. Before it reaches my hands, I don't know what has gone on until that point. I am writing this because I, too, have bad experiences with the postal service. I recently had an express package that was damaged (out of carrier’s hands) and scanned falsely by a carrier or clerk. It was scanned as attempted when it was not! That is a sign of laziness. I have called the supervisor over that postal facility several times and have gotten nowhere with it. There isn't anything I can think of that would be a good reason for that package to show attempted when it was not. That is just false documentation to cover someone's butt.

No matter what, there is no excuse to treat the customers the way that you have been treated. Do not just sit back either. There is always someone to listen and take care of it. Know that if you do not get results, keep going until someone does take care of it. Sometimes when I make a mistake, having the customer catch me and tell me (nicely) personally, it gives me a better image so that it becomes more personable. Everyone makes mistakes at sometime, but know that constant mistakes should not be tolerated.

Instead he holds it hostage. I am really sick of this. What is it they say about the USPS?

Through wind, snow, rain, etc., the mail will be delivered? What a joke. This mailman also scares my children and they say he is mean. So what do I do? I put a call into the postmaster. Hopefully he calls me back. I am extremely angry. I have 5 feet of snow in my yard and they expect me to shovel a path for this jerk. No, thanks. For as long as we have a had a certain mail person, our mail has come in the ** dark in winter, which doesn't bother me much when the weather is good. But she seems to make a special point of coming in the dark when the ground is slippery and dangerous. According to the post office, the mail should be delivered by 5 pm. She often delivers after 5 pm and sometimes as late as 7pm!

I filed 2 complaints, case #ca100722797and #ca100750813. Both were met with derision and disrespect by the 61107 area code supervisor, who's every response to my statements was "I don't know anything about that", "I don't know anything about that", "I don't know anything about that", "I don't know anything about that", "I don't know anything about that". If he had been standing in front of me, I may have punched him in his smug face. I didn't get his name when I first spoke to him, so I called back using *68 and he said his name was Paul **. I'm beginning to see why people hate the French. He was totally rude and disrespectul and there was no legitimate reason for it! Today, it is 6:03 pm right now and the so called "mail person" still hasn't delivered our mail, and due to the extreme ice skating rink like surface, from my front door to the mail box,and pitch darkness outside here in the Midwest, I will not be risking my life to get it.

The post office complains that people are avoiding using their services and they seem genuinely puzzled as to the reason why. News flash: It's not because UPS or DHL or FedEx are better, but they are held accountable and postal employees are not. That is the difference!

I ordered an item from a reputable seller in the Czech Republic. The item was shipped on January 2, 2010. After following the item to customs, it was released from customs on January 13, 2010. The shipping status of the package hasn't been updated since the 13th, and I have no idea where the package may be.
After repeated calls to the USPS, I have been told three different things:
    1) A "formal inquiry" may be made if the package has been in the country longer than 7 days.
    2) A "formal investigation" may be made if the package has not been delivered for 7 days.

    3) The US recipient cannot lodge a formal investigation; it must be started by the original sender in the foreign office.

The formal inquiry from the Czech office has resulted in the same information which is displayed on the tracking page, ie, the package has not moved since the 13th of January 2010.

The package came back to Japan with a "Return to Sender" sticker over the address and a sticker on the back saying that one attempt was made to deliver the package. (There are three spaces for delivery information on that sticker but they only used one. This information can also be validated by EMS tracking) The house and business, a well-known mechanic shop, is within clear view of the post office. Also, I noticed that it took 6 days to reach the States where the usual EMS guarantee is three to four days. EMS tracking shows that the holdup was by USPS. I was gone for 16 days, until Jan. 2, 2010, when I requested my held mail be delivered. When I arrived home on Jan. 2, I found five items in my mailbox: the "hold mail" card, two pieces of junk mail, my water bill, and my mortgage payment notice. What I did not find was 16 days' worth of accumulated mail, including my gas bill, my phone bill, and my car payment notification. I have spoken to the USPS manager here twice.

He's not helpful. He can't explain what happened to my mail; the carrier, he says, delivered the mail she found with my "hold mail" card. Please! I receive more than four pieces of mail a week. For 16 days, I should have had more mail. And what happened to my bills? I called the "Help" line at USPS Customer Service twice today, but "the system is down," which I think is their way of saying, "We don't really care if you have a problem; we don't want to hear about it. " I posted an email complaint anyway, but hold out little hope that anyone will get back to me.

For the first week, the package stayed at the original shipping location unmoved. The following week, it was shipped to some place in New Jersey, where it then sat again. A week and a half later, the package is moved to a town in New Jersey that is almost an hour away from the previous location. It's now nearing the month mark and the package is still sitting at the location in New Jersey. The package was sent via priority mail.

Now, how can they charge for something they do not follow? Is there any point to charge extra? Considering you can pay priority, overnight or regular, it matters not, the package will get there whenever. This isn't the first time this has happened for me. Now, I live overseas and every package must be sent via USPS, unfortunately. What's more is that myself and other service members wait patiently for these people to do their jobs. When I shipped the box on 12/30/2009, it weighed in at 68lbs and have receipts to prove it, but when I received the box on 1/14/2010 it only weighed in at 56lbs.

When I contacted the post office regarding the theft, they informed me that because I didn't purchase insurance, there was nothing they can do. I find this to be an unacceptable response, I paid for a service and they didn't even come close to fulfilling their obligation of delivering my package with the contents that I dropped it off with. I shouldn't have to pay extra to make sure that they won't steal whatever they want out of my box. The replacement cost of the items that are missing total nearly $600.00. Not to mention, the wasted time I've spent writing letters to the Atlanta Mail Recovery Center and phone calls made to the main Post Office hub in Atlanta only to deal with the least helpful people in the entire world.

I find it hard to stomach that my tax dollars are keeping the post office running and yet they feel no obligation to properly service the people of this nation. I am preparing to move. My fiance has been attempting to get rural mail service which was present when he purchased the property 9 years ago. The postmaster said he was .7 of a mile too far for delivery. He also said the seasonal neighbor could not receive mail. My fiance researched this and spoke to several postmasters, including a regional one, and was told that he could get mail if his next door neighbor requested it as well. My fiance took the form to his neighbor who filled it out and (my fiance) took it back to post office because his neighbor is reclusive. The postmaster went to the neighbor's residence after dark on Sat. night, 1/16/2010, on the pretense that his father's house had frozen pipes. Unfortunately, his brother (another postmaster) occupies that house and was 5 miles away, so this was clearly a ruse (not his house, occupied and temperature 40 degrees).

Then he asked the neighbor if he really wanted to receive mail, "just checking." Not only did this "postmaster" come to a private, rural residence late on a Saturday night, he didn't even come to the front door, instead sneaking around to a rear door, past windows with a clear view inside. This neighbor does want mail. I want mail when I move, as well. Not only do I have a legally recognized disability, I receive and send a great deal of mail professionally which makes it impossible to travel 5 miles on a dirt road every day to collect my mail.

This postmaster has said he doesn't believe we should receive rural delivery and that the regional manager was wrong. I think it must be well outside the scope of his position to harass, (if not illegal activity) a postal service patron by coming onto their property under false pretenses and essentially spying, then trying to get them to change their mind. I am concerned about the consequences of challenging this person in a town of less than 300 people, if he feels he has the right to deny a government service he is being paid to provide, then harass, challenge and essentially stalk someone who is simply trying to achieve what they should have had in the first place.

I am concerned for my/our personal protection and the security of our mail. This person is not only challenging his regional authority, his behavior and actions constitute a personal threat to our privacy and rights. I would like to know what recourse we have to prevent him creating his own rules regarding our mail, and also in preventing him from harassing and intimidating people who do not want him on their property. I would like to know if he is violating any law and what postal patrons can do to protect themselves from these violations and personal intrusions. Thank you.

To start, there has been weather causing roads to be closed so traffic cannot get into or out of our small rural town, so we understand that mail can't get in or out either and mail won't be delivered. However, when the postal carrier that delivers your mail on a rural route fails to deliver your mail in a timely manner, there are problems that arise. We never got a note or phone call stating that our mail was not being picked up or delivered, we had to make phone calls to find out why.

According to a phone call made on 1-15-10 to the Emerson Post Office with Ginger, we are not receiving our mail because the mailman cannot drive up onto our curb in our yard to place the mail in the mailbox. The reason he cannot drive up on our curb, is because the city crews have not removed at least 1 foot of snow in the street from our curb, and that one foot of snow is about 3 feet high but still below our mailbox and a person can still get to our mailbox to place mail in and pick up mail. Since our mail has not been delivered or picked up we have had some bill and banking problems that have arose and now trying to figure out what to do to fix them which has put us in a bind drastically.

I have tried to mail our paychecks in the mail because we do not bank in the same town as we live. With the weather and roads the way they have been, it was not smart of us to load our children in the vehicle and try to drive it to our bank to make sure it was there the next day. We have never had a problem before but after 2 days of the mail to go out not being picked up, I decided to take that mail out of the mailbox and place it in the mailbox at the post office to be picked up. We are not blaming the post office 100% for this situation, however, they should at least let us know that we need to pick up mail since they are not delivering it to our mailing address.

I was advised by Ginger that Stan told her that until we remove all the snow from in front of and around our mailbox, the mail was not being delivered. City ordinance states that we are liable for snow that is on the sidewalk and cannot place snow in the street that we have removed from any location. Thus what are we to do with all the snow that needs to be removed because we have nowhere in our yard to go with it and I am not paying a fine to the snow back in the street when the mailbox is open and can be reached.

It is just odd how we have been able to make it to our mailbox everyday to check the mail but the postal carrier cannot and he has a pick up. As of the writing of this, we still have been unable to obtain our mail because Ginger did not leave the mail out for me to pick up after work when I got back to town since the hours they are open do not coincide with the times that I am working and out of town prior to them opening and closing. I do believe that the post should at least make notification of them holding our mail for any reason especially when that is the only way to receive any bills that you have.

I came home yesterday to find a small box or facial cream that I ordered from France for $450 frozen in the ditch in 2 feet of snow. To say the least, I am very upset. But this is only one of many problems with this postal employee. My parents live down the road, and Mike, the mailman, refused to close their mailbox and said he doesn't have to because it's too heavy.

My parents haven't received mail in 4 days, so they went to the postmaster yesterday who told my father that it's not there. So it must be in the mailman's car. Now withholding mail is against the law, I thought. Last week, my mother was chasing a $5000 check around the field along with other mail. My sister lives next door and finds her mail in the ditch regularly.

We all have complained to the postmaster several times, and he kept saying he will talk with the mailman Mike. Well, we have had enough and something needs to be done. The postmaster has been out to Bauer RD and inspected my parents' mailbox, and there wasn't a problem. There are other residents who also have had problems with their mail due to this employee, and they all want to get a petition going. If we find our mail in the ditch one more time or my parents mail being withheld, we will be going to the authorities regarding this situation. I trust that this matter will be dealt within a reasonable time frame.

I get my mail just fine but since before I moved here 2 years ago, the slot to send mail out has been blocked off, not just in our neighborhood but in every other one I've looked at. They claim this is because of vandalism but the vandalism had to have happened more than 2 years ago. What's more, I pay for the PO and for federal law enforcement that deals with mail tampering. So, why isn't something done after more than 2 years? My only options for sending out mail (there are still some people you must pay by mail) is to go 1-1/2 miles to the nearest mailbox at a grocery store. I am disabled. To my way of thinking, creating these banks every block or 2 is already against the Americans with Disabilities Act but now, this is really ridiculous. Complaints are met with, 'You can mail things at Fry's or Safeway. ' For this I pay taxes.

She talked with the postmaster there in MS and she said that it had to go through Atlanta and they had a storm. Your motto is that rain, sleet or snow doesn't stop delivery, right? Anyway, I was then told to check with my post office here in Columbia so I did and the carrier said that she had never seen it. No tracking number was given because it was not insured, only "priority."

We had another incident with the same post office with the same aunt sending a package to Lima, Ohio to my mom. It was clearly marked fragile but was delivered broken even though the item was packaged in bubble wrap. These are some of the reasons why people are not using the post office and they are having to raise the price of stamps--not email. You can't seem to get good help to get people their mail and packages as promised. Thanks to these two incidents, my aunt will never send anything through USPS. We will continue to support UPS or FedEx. Summit would not give any money back because it was not insured. But it should not have had to insure it--priority says insured to me! USPS does not want to be held responsible for anything!

Using a USPS purchased Priority Mail box, on December 16th I sent a USPS Priority Mail package to an address in New Jersey. It was supposed to be a 3-day delivery and the package never arrived. I opened a USPS Case# **, Lost Package. They replied that the item should arrive as backlog cleared up. As of 1/14/10, the item has not arrived.

When I recontacted USPS, I was advised that they had no remedy, and to contact Consumer Affairs and make a complaint, by one of their own agents! Which makes me think this happens a lot, with that quick response after my inquiry to file a complaint. I think that when USPS sells an upgraded service using their mailing materials, they should automatically require a tracking number. As it stands, you must take an extra step to ensure the package will be tracked (not necessarily ever delivered), and that is not advised at the counter when mailing.

I know we should be receiving the mail because it is a normal bulk advertisement delivery day, i.e., Penny Saver Delivery day. The mail is to be delivered Monday through Saturday. I have sent an important document overnight to my parents in Brooklyn NY. It was guaranteed to be delivered there at 12 noon the following day. My parents spent an entire day home waiting for the package that never arrived. At 1 p.m. the status on the tracking number has changed to say out for delivery. At around 5 p.m. we called the local post office to ask for the status of the package. They said that it was still out of delivery. This morning the status on their website changed to say that it was delivered at 12 noon, no one was home and that the notice was left.

No notice was there, every one was home and their own website indicated that the package was not out for delivery at that time. I believe that they have never even attempted to deliver the package and updated the status to be in compliance with their guarantee. Besides paying for the overnight delivery we also had important documents that had to go out by yesterday never delivered to us.

Finally, yesterday he told me that the item cannot be found and since the package was not insured, he cannot help. He advised me that all I can do is to complain on Consumer Affairs. This is the second time this has happened to me in 6 months. The first time, the item was $5.99 so I did not spend much time following up with USPS. I got a notice left at my door on 1/11/2010 and it said it is available to pick up after 1/12/2010 9:00AM. At the time I tried to pick up my package, they said they can't find the package and probably the carrier was trying to redeliver my package. However, I never received my package and did not get any other notice but I received my regular mail. It means my carrier did deliver the mail regularly, but not my "registered mail". I called my local post office again and again but they still couldn't find my package and every time I tried to ask question, they told me to hold down and I have to wait for at least 20 minutes. After couple times I called them, their phone line is hold and can't be reached anymore. They got my phone number but I never received a call back. There is no way I can get any help.

They provide me very bad customer service. I told them I believe my package is lost. They replied, "how could you know your mail is lost?". Come on, the facts tell me my mail is lost. The carrier is not delivering it and it is not in the post office, so where is it? If I pay extra for the register mail and the mail still get lost. Why do I have to pay extra? And if the mail is not important, why do I pay extra for registered service? I couldn't believe how irresponsible of USPS is. If you are mailing something important, never mail it with regular mail service since the chance of the mail getting lost is very high.

This is my first time of registered mail got lost, but I have tried many times of my regular mail got lost. I used to sell my book in Amazon and I prefer using media mail or first class mail, but I have received lots of customer complaints about not receiving the books. I didn't get in touch with USPS about all those losses because I know they are not going to solve the problem for me since I am using the cheap service with no tracking number. But now, I know even if I paid the expensive service, my mail will still get lost. So this is the service quality that USPS can provide.

I mailed three boxes of Christmas gifts on December 10, 2009. Two boxes went to Pensacola, Florida (2 different family addressees), and one to Omaha, Nebraska. I personally packaged, double taped (with tape purchased from USPS), and mailed the package through USPS. The teller, at no time, indicated neither poor packaging, nor an idea that the boxes might not meet its destination. I tracked and insured (on a whim, thank God) the package, and have verification that the package was processed through the sort facility in Eureka, CA, and at some point, on its way to the Los Angeles Bulk Mail Center, the box arrived empty. I received a Parcel Search Request form letter from Los Angeles Networking Distribution Center, Claims and Inquiry on December 19, 2009. I compiled all the information that was requested of me, and returned the Parcel Search Request to the Mail Recovery Center in Atlanta GA on December 21, 2009. I sent this Parcel Search Request packet I created certified mail to ensure they received it. The certified mail receipt was received back to me on December 29, 2009.

My complaint is when I approached the clerk at the post office that I mailed the package from, his attitude was, "well, this happens a lot". After I had done research on the internet, it seems to me that this government institution has no oversight, no one ensuring the consumers are not taken advantage of, no presumption of fault on their part, nor any customer service to assist in the tracking, recovery, and if applicable the claim requests. An example of the lack of presumption of fault is the Parcel Search Request form that is sent out, states experience shows that proper packaging, including your name and address, with the contents inside the parcel in most instances, will avoid this inconvenience. To assure our customers the service they deserve, it is suggested that these measures be taken in future mailings. I was literally astonished that a crude, ill copied, standard formed letter would be received, informing me that my box was received empty. Why bother using the USPS, when it is evident there are cheaper outlets with more consumer friendly practices.

I have never had any problems with the postal service until this past year. The postal carrier for our area had not been closing my mail box, after she put my mail in the box. This had gone on for a while. I did ask her to please close it, and she did not say anything. I assumed she did not hear me. I came home from work one afternoon, and my mail box was open and all the mail was wet. I went and made a complaint about this to the postal manager.

After that, the delivery service was better. Then during the holidays, I sent out Christmas cards with photos and gift cards as I do every year and have never had any problems.

This December 2009, I had 4 Christmas cards slit open and the card, photos, and gift cards were taken; the envelope arrived at the designated address but with nothing inside. Each envelope was put into another envelope (the yellow ones with the window to see the address) which really upset me. I sent Christmas cards out in good faith. I had to stop payment on a check sent out to my daughter; that cost a $35.00 stop payment fee. I had two more Christmas cards I wanted to send out, so I waited until after the New Year to do so, hoping that the person/persons doing this would be finished stealing from the mail.

On January 3, 2010, I sent out 2 more, and they both were slit and everything was taken. One envelope was also put into a yellow one, but the other was not. My sister received an envelope sliced up with nothing inside. This makes me very upset, as I work very hard to get what little I can for my family. I went Wednesday, January 6, 2010, to make a formal complaint to the postal manager. She was not helpful at all and told me she could not do anything about this issue. She also said that the cards probably got caught up in a machine. I wanted to know why they were still using the machine (I did not believe her.) and why only the cards with photos, gift cards, and a check were the ones ripped.

She gave me a number and told me that was all she could do. I called the number. The person on the other end was a dispatcher and could only take the information and gave me a reference number and told me someone would call me in 1-2 business days. I would like to have someone help me with this issue and stop acting as if it's okay for this to happen. I have not heard from anyone, and not sure, if I will.

I will never use the US postal service to send out cards again. I still have 3 more to send but will not send them. We all pay for this service and expect the service to be safe and fair, which it is not. How many other people has this happened to?

I and my wife were home all day long and did not hear anyone knocking the door. (It's a small apartment with front door right in front of us) Inkgrabber refuse to help since package was delivered. What I am wondering is how can post office just throw a package at my front door for anyone to just take it and not be responsible. This is an apartment complex, not a private residence. This is not the first time something like this has happened. Last year, I lost a book I ordered from Amazon in exactly the same manner. Book was left at my front door and disappeared. Back in August, they did the same thing with another one of my textbooks. Shortly before that, they folded my husband's diploma that clearly stated 'Do Not Bend' on the envelope and proceeded to put that in the mailbox as well. Purchased a $219.99 retail Arctic Cat TXI orange snowmobile helmet. It was mailed on 12/14 in AK, with delivery confirmation. The package was accepted at the PO.

A complaint was opened via the customer support of USPS. My local PO called the next day. They were great, but said unfortunately they could tell me no more than it was accepted in AK. Shipping was $36 and it has not yet arrived to my local PO. Not much else the local PO could do. They stated it should have arrived by now unless the zip code when sent was incorrect. If not deliverable, then it would return to sender. If undeliverable, would be sent to Atlanta or something. I verified that the address used was correct and that the package was not sent back to the sender. Unfortunately, the sender did not purchase insurance (just deliver confirmation). Therefore, I am at the mercy of the USPS, which so far seems like I am out my cost for the item plus shipping with what seems like no recourse.

Needless to say, my trust in the USPS has been shattered. If there was not proof that the USPS did receive the package or that the package had not been delivered, then I could understand the USPS not being able to accept responsibility. I would not expect them to take responsibility if one could not show/prove that they are actually at fault. But in this case it was entrusted with them and a good sum of money was paid to them to perform a service, namely to deliver the item. Yet they completely failed and "lost" the item. Any reputable business or service provider would assume responsibility as it is clearly the USPS' fault and work to remedy the situation. Yet it seems like the USPS is not held to any responsibility/consequences. I have an open complaint with them, and am awaiting additional information from an e-mail I sent asking if they check the "lost and found" locations since there is a CD tied to the package, etc. At this point it feels like I am just out of luck and my money/item and feel like there is no alternative to have it corrected. It also appears that this is not necessarily a "minority", but seems to occur quite often.

She had delivery confirmation and gave us the tracking number. We tracked it, and we were both off so we waited for it. Then on Wednesday, we checked and saw that there was a confirmation that the package was delivered on Tuesday, 12/22/09. We knew this was not the case because we were both home and waiting for the arrival of the package. We were very disappointed and continued to wait for the package.

I contacted the post office via www.usps.com and it took about 3 days to be contacted back. I talked with my delivery person's supervisor. She told me that she spoke with the delivery person, and she claims to remember knocking on my door on 12/22/09, getting no answer and leaving the package on my doorstep. I know this is not the case because my husband and I were waiting specifically for this package and did not hear anyone even come up the stairs, plus we have a doorbell. I told the post office, but they said that since she claims she delivered it, there was nothing more they could do for me.

I am frustrated at the lack of attention this matter received. There is no forum to file a formal complaint and no customer service guarantee. My husband and I were both home and waiting, and we both know that it never came; so she either delivered it to the wrong address or she kept my package. Either way, there should be a consequence, but I was not told there would be any. Sylvia just told me that there was nothing more she could tell me because the package was not insured. I feel like the USPS is the Grinch that stole my Christmas.

On Dec. 28, 2009 I went to the US postal office to send an overnight letter. The lines were long, so I chose to utilize the automated machine. I keyed in the information requested, paid the $19.80 required for overnight and return receipt. The machine dispensed a domestic return receipt label with a pre-printed tracking number. Under the service type, express mail was pre-printed. I completed the address as required, peeled the form off and attached it to the express mail envelope, and dropped in the postal chute. The next day, I went to the website to track delivery and received confirmation that the letter had been delivered to NJ as requested. Imagine my surprise one hour later when I received the letter back from my mailman for no postage?

I immediately went to the post office with the letter in hand, along with the tracking information and receipt from the machine verifying I paid $19.80. The inept clerk, Allen, was unable to provide any answer as to why the system showed it delivered while I was still holding it in my hands. He actually had the gall to suggest that the letter had been sent all the way to NJ from TX and then back when they found it had no postage - all that in a span of 20 hours. They agreed to resend the letter, but in order to ensure overnight delivery, I was asked to pay the $19.80 again! Needless to say, I asked to see the postmaster, Stan **, who refused to come to the front counter.

After several minutes and pointless arguing with Allen, I was told that Mr. ** would be over an hour if I was to wait. Since I had to have the letter to NJ by the 30th, I chose to leave and pay FedEx to deliver instead. I am appalled by the service I was given by the employees of the USPS and their management. The clerk even went as far as to suggest that I put the label on another letter in error and sent that one instead, which made no sense since I only conducted one transaction yesterday and was holding the actual letter with tracking number in hand. I feel sorry for the poor person whose package or letter was delivered to the NJ address in place of mine.

Obviously, the screw up is on the part of the USPS, but no one wants to take responsibility for the mistake. Needless to say, that is the last time I will utilize the USPS for any package delivery.

This office has been delivering my paychecks by mail since September 2009. On or about December 19, 2009, the postal persons on duty returned my paycheck as undeliverable. The yellow tag states "Unable to forward/for review - no forwarding order on file - return to postmaster of original addressee for review." This is utterly intolerable and due to their inability to continue service appropriately, I did not receive that paycheck until the next weekend with my new one. This has caused me both mental and financial distress and will not be tolerated ever again.

This is very sad. You claim to be the best at what you do, but it is very clear that you cannot mail to other countries. I sent a package for my girlfriends for Christmas on the 12th of Dec and still it has not arrived. How can you claim to be to best handler when you cannot even track something outside of the USA? This is sad. Every other company that does shipping can except you. This is a very sad day when someone cannot even have their Christmas presents by Christmas. You all should be ashamed of the way your company performs. This is unheard of a company this large, which claims to be able to ship anywhere in the world. Why did I have to pay so much (labeled as priority) when this happens? Shouldn’t I get all my cash back, seeing how your so-called priority mail does not exist there?

I am going to try and bring this to the notice of everyone in the USA about your lack of being able to track anything outside of the USA. This is not right. I paid almost $170 for no service at all, just for you to stick in a box and try and mail it yourself. Maybe you all should look into using FedEx yourselves or someone else, because they can track packages sent around the world. How can the US Postal Service not do that? It is the craziest thing I ever heard. You should really be ashamed of your business practices. Again maybe you need to start using FedEx or UPS. This is crazy. Every time I have sent things (before) with either of these other companies, they at least could actually track it. But you, once it leaves the US, well, it is out of your hands. Is that fair?

This is very, very, very sad. Again the US Postal Service needs to make a deal with one of these companies to ship out of the country. My package was shipped to the Philippines out of Tampa on the 12th and still nothing. No way of tracking it. It is just lost in the mail. $170 out of my pocket, wow, unheard of. Heck, I could have taken it there myself and come back home 6 or 7 times. I will never use the US Postal Service again for something like this. You cost more than the other companies and you can't even track it once it leaves US soil. Wow, what kind of company is this? A very, very, very sad day. Thanks for nothing, US Postal Services.

We live in the center of this 7,500 population Maine town. The local post office refuses to deliver mail because "It would cause the mail vehicle to make a left turn." FedEx, UPS and the local paper have no difficulty. The mail driver was at our home and said he could deliver but needed the go-ahead. We have written to the postmaster general in DC with no results. I am self-employed and need the mail for referrals and payments for services. The lobby at the post office for mailbox access is only open M-F 7:00AM-5:15PM. Often I work 6:30AM-5:30PM or later, which means I can only get my mail on Saturday mornings.

My boyfriend ordered me a wallet for Christmas. It was sent via USPS Priority mail from the seller with tracking. They sent it and it "arrived at postal facility" on December 14. When that happens, the package is usually delivered the same day or next. When I went to the post office to ask where my package was, they couldn't find it and basically told me tough luck. With tracking and no insurance = useless.
