For my customers, all over in the USA, we (customers and I) decide which one to choose between UPS or FedEx depending how long and how fast and the cost. Some cases UPS are little bit cheaper than FEDEX, but the delivery time is about the same, and handling of the package/condition of package on arrival, FEDEEX takes better care, but the UPS person who delivers are always cautious and friendly and seems to be happy and smiling.

I started making a custom lamp for a member of the family. I labored at this special project for over six months and finally finished the lamp right before Christmas. I decided to delay shipping during the holiday season with all the volume of parcels being sent all over the country at one time. Finally packed it up with care in very sturdy sized box. I shipped it of via UPS. It was a large and heavy parcel and was headed for CA. It was plastered with huge FRAGILE labels. It arrived about a week later. I was anxious to hear from the recipient. Unfortunately when I did the news was bad. The package was badly damaged and as well the lamp. I am now in the process of making an insurance claim. Most internet orders that I have placed have been shipped by UPS. I haven't had too many problems, maybe 2 issues in the last 5 years. A few years back, a driver left all my packages down at my mailbox which I cannot see from where I live. I rec'd a text from a neighbor informing me there were packages at my mailbox, I immediately drove down to retrieve the packages. If my neighbor had not alerted me the packages would have laid by my mailbox for the next 24 hours. The other issue was I had rec'd a notice that UPS had delivered a package but I couldn't find it. I don't have any problems with porch piracy, I waited a few days, my package showed up several days later at my neighbors house who lives on the street behind me. Very bizarre incident.

The kicker is UPS still invoices and expects payment for those packages. To get charges reversed apparently takes an act of God. Which brings me to another shady practice...charging for typos, or omissions....You had better have your address information verified and typing double checked if you use UPS. She had followed up on the shipment and determined the packages arrived a few days after the 'promised' date. She was calling to ask if I wanted her to file a claim, that there was no guarantee but she thought she might be able to get a portion of my cost refunded. I hadn’t paid any attention to the date the boxes arrived, and was amazed she had followed up. UPS packaged the item and insured the item for what we agreed was a reasonable value given its size and the agents knowledge of the artist who made it. I was sure I left it in good hands. The item arrived and I immediately noticed the box was damaged and prayed the item was in one piece. It wasn't. I attempted to file a claim only to have it rejected since UPS policy states the shipper must file the claim, which meant the out of state UPS store who packaged it. I provided all the necessary pictures and documents and UPS made an onsite inspection and the claim was filed. It was rejected again without reason. I called the Shipper and asked what the problem was and she said she filed an appeal.
Weeks later it was again rejected without reason. The shipper said UPS wanted the receipt for the item, even though I told them it was a gift from the artist. Another appeal was filed, the claim was completed but no check ever sent. Another call to the shipper and they got a check for me that only included the amount of the packaging, shipping and insurance, but nothing for the items value. She filed yet another appeal, and now their reason for rejecting is that they insist I provide a legal appraisal justifying the value that it was insured for. Shouldn't they have asked for that before they sold me the insurance policy and before they broke the item? We're still fighting this battle over 6 months now. UPS has no intention of ever honoring this claim so I'm left with Small Claims court.

Neither had the correct shipping numbers entered in the UPS system so the items I was tracking never delivered but got returned to the sender. On the second parcel, a replacement was sent by the sender to the nearest UPS store. Store was unable to verify the shipment arrived but after a lot of persistence by me, the parcel was found. Then the store charged me a ‘pick up.’ Fee. According to UPS customer service, UPS stores are independently owned and can charge whatever they like once a parcel reaches their store. There is nothing on the UPS website to state that UPS stores are independently owned and that they can do this.
UPS refused to reimburse me for the fee and told me that I had to call customer service if I wanted a parcel sent to a store to check on what extra fees I would be charged. The lack of service at the store (Brooksbank Ave, North Vancouver) and with UPS customer service was appalling. I use FedEx, Purolator and Canada Post often and have never had any problems and not use UPS again.

I had to fly across the country for a funeral and estate sale. I had one expensive (and sentimental) item to have shipped by UPS. It was worth (not that I would ever sell it) over $900. I packaged it with the utmost care, going overboard with packing b/c of how special the item was. When I went to UPS, I was asked "if I'd like to purchase insurance in case the item is damaged in transit". I wasn't given any sort of further clarification that they can deny the insurance claim if they deem the item wasn't packaged properly. I paid for the insurance.
When the package arrived (over a week later), there's a large dent on the corner of the box that is a clear indication the package was dropped. Sure enough, when I opened the box the item was damaged. After filing a claim with UPS, and they finally got around to contacting me (another week later), they denied the claim. They accepted zero responsibility for damaging the package and said they are denying b/c I didn't package properly. I sent in photos showing how much packaging was involved and the dent in the box. They never responded. I followed up and they said they reviewed and are still denying. The idea that the result was in no way their fault is insulting. But, most of all, the lack of communication was pathetic. Stay away! They are incompetent.

Recipient paid 'COD' charge of 31 GBP on phone! Then UPS needed 'adult' signature??? Missed birthday by 1 week. Three+ long calls to Customer Service. This is now January 12th and according to the tracking one package has been sitting in Montgomery Alabama since the the 8th. This package contains perishables so after doing everything possible to speak to someone with no luck because all phone calls give only recorded messages we decided to start a claim. After typing in the tracking number on the claim page of the UPS site we were informed the package was not eligible for a claim. How in the world is it possible they can keep our package and not be held responsible? Our next step is the Better Business Bureau. No matter what the outcome we will NEVER use UPS again as long as there is another option.

No one can seem to figure it out over there since my acct is "closed". How do you let someone use a closed bogus acct number to ship? Why can no one help me? I'm beyond frustrated and will be filing a formal complaint across all media.

To be clear, the problem is NOT with our local UPS. Son at orientation for new position in CA needed documentation for I-9 form. Original birth certificate & original SS card were "overnighted" to fulfill. That was more than 48 hours ago. Not only did it never arrive, package is LOST at present! Though we were originally told it was at Oakland Airport, it actually was last scanned in KY. The consequences are profound, without any semblance of accountability on the part of UPS officials. I would at least like to believe this is a rare occurrence. Yet my brother "overnighted" a check via UPS two months ago for merchandise that a trucking company was picking up. It, too, DID NOT ARRIVE, despite in-state only pickup and delivery!

I have one parcel to be delivered. It came by at 8:10 pm Jan 2 2020. Online under the tracking page I was informed that the package would be delivered on the next business day. Here we're on Jan 7 2020 and I have yet to receive a package or notice of when the package would be shipped. I reached out online and talked to a live agent but they specialized in shipments flowing throughout the continental US so I was transferred to a chat where someone who specializes in Canadian shipments could help out. Unfortunately, they were not available and so I had to contact a number they provided.
There, I spoke with an incredibly inconsistent customer service representative who informed me my package just so happened to be delivered today. The online tracking page fails to inform me of where my package is at this moment or when it will actually be shipped. I ordered this package from a store as they did not have my size available, and therefore was not able to choose to use this company's service, nor will I willingly in the future.

UPS expects that you can skip everything and sit around to wait on their schedule. I had a package being delivered that requires a signature. The UPS tracker said it would be delivered on Saturday 1/4/2020 before the end of the day. I had to take off work to wait. It never came. The UPS tracker continued to say it would be delivered Saturday until close to 10pm, then it said unable to provide a delivery time. On Sunday night, it changed to a delivery on the next day, Monday. Since I had already taken off work on Saturday, I could not take off the rest of the week. I tried to change delivery to the following Saturday 1/11/2020. They said they could but I must pay a $5 fee. I emailed customer service to complain and get the fee waived since it was their error that caused the problem. I told them I could not be home all day waiting until then.
Their response came Monday night, after the first delivery attempt had been made. The response was in VERY broken English and basically said they did not know what fee I was talking about, it would be rescheduled the next day for free. I re-explained that a Tuesday delivery would not help, and I need a Saturday delivery. I was told they don't do deliveries on Saturday. I asked why their tracker had said it was going to be delivered the prior Saturday and was told "According to our system it showed delivery on Saturday but it not guarantees delivery in that day. We always offer to the customer just change the delivery date Monday to Friday."
I checked, out of curiosity, and the website said I still had to pay the fee to change the delivery date to Thursday, which I think contradicts what she said. The only other option I was given was that they could hold it at their distribution center, which is across town and not open on weekends. That was no help. In the end, I was forced to have to pay the $5 fee or lose the $150 I had paid for the package. In addition they wanted an additional $8 fee to narrow the delivery window down to a 2 hour period so that I could at least salvage some of the day. They held my package for ransom. Customer service was no help whatsoever. They refused to accept any responsibility or waive the fee despite the fact their system caused the problem. UPS is greedy and corrupt. I would have rated them no stars except this system would not let me.

I will never get anything shipped with UPS again. This was the worst experience of my life. I get an email saying that they will be delivering my package on Tuesday so I go out on Monday. They show up on Monday while I was out and try to deliver my package. I tell them I am not home and they say "Okay we will try again tomorrow. They don't show up until the Thursday which is understandable because Tuesday and Wednesday were a holiday. I wait all day Thursday and then finally call them and ask them where they are. They said they tried to deliver it but that I wasn't there.
I was home waiting all day for them but they decided that they would take the easy way out and leave a note on my mail box instead of buzz up to my apartment to let me know they were here. They left without delivering the package. I am getting frustrated at this point. They then assure me that it will be delivered on Friday. I waited ALL day- from 7am to 7pm in front of my apartment waiting for them and they never showed up. So I call them furious at this point because online they wrote "We tried to deliver package but there was no one home."
I call again crying and super frustrated at this point. The person on the phone says that she will have it sent to a local UPS address so I can pick it up on Monday. I agree to this as I now know these people are super incompetent and I have to start work again on Monday so I won't be home for deliveries. Monday comes along and they try to deliver it to my apartment while I'm at work even though I told them I would not be home and I wanted to pick it up from a UPS location!!!!
I Call again today (Monday) and they say "We have no history of you requesting it to be delivered to that address but I can send a note now and you can pick it up tomorrow. This is now a week passed when I should have had it. I AM MAD! I tell the lady "No, I was told I can pick it up today, tell me where I can pick it up."She says that she will send a message to the local UPS people and that they will call me back with more information... Try again, same error message ("UPS experiencing a technical difficulty").
Call to track the package. Standard rep says I need to speak with an International rep. International reps says I should email the UPS iparcel address for help. Email... She says there's no other way of contacting them but my package is set to arrive in 2 days and I need to redirect before then so it doesn't sit at my door and get stolen. Email is not an option for me but I also want to make sure I haven't been charged since it's obvious they are not going to redirect my package for pickup. She tries to set up the redirect and can't. Now, I ask for the complaint department. Billing can't find the number. When I'm finally transferred, the complaint rep tells me I need to speak with technical support for the website issue and then international rep for the iparcel redirect. Really? REALLY???!!!! The UPS Store 43 Town and Country Dr Ste 119, Fredericksburg, VA 22405. While trying to ship Christmas gifts from our local UPS store it was suggested by them to use the USPS for a cheaper rate as it would cost over $200 dollars per package to ship to Spain through UPS. What we thought was a convenience of shipping USPS packages from their location turned out to be a mistake. She declared everything that was in the package and the clerk entered it into the system printed out the declarations and processed the packages for shipping. She openly declared perfume in one box and cologne in the other. At no time did the clerk indicate that there were restrictions on shipping colognes or perfumes through the USPS or UPS due to the alcohol contained within the product. Both boxes were returned to us by the USPS due to the alcohol in perfume and cologne.
When my wife returned to the UPS store for a refund, she was told by the supervisor that she would need to go to the USPS office as the charge and payment was through them not UPS. When she went to the USPS and after much deliberation, was finally told that the refund would have to come from the UPS store as that was where the payment was made. She then drove back to the UPS where and was told that that was the chance you take when shipping an item and that they were not responsible and would not refund the money.
The complaint is this: Lack of training. The clerk who originally processed the packages did not know to look up the items to ensure that they could be shipped. The supervisor who assisted the clerk that day also never indicated that there would be any issue in shipping the cologne and perfume. In a simple search after the fact we found that “There is absolutely no alcohol allowed for any USPS shipment, domestically or internationally.” Does this mean that you can ship alcohol through UPS? Not so fast, that same search resulted in finding that there are very strict regulations governing the shipment of alcohol via UPS.
“UPS does allow the shipment of alcohol with a few caveats.”• You must have an account number with UPS.
• You must come to an alcohol shipping agreement with UPS (given on a per-contract basis).
• You must have a license to ship alcohol according to federal and state laws.
• You must abide by the alcohol regulations of the origin state AND the destination state. (UPS will only ship alcohol to-and-from certain states because of this)
• You must use proper packaging:
o Inner packaging of EPS foam, folded corrugated tray, or molded fiber tray.
o Each packaging component must secure the bottle to the center of the container, away from the side walls of the container.
o Container must be sturdy.
• Clearly label the package according to UPS and origin/destination state guidelines.
• Document the shipment as alcoholic (this is easy to do on EasyPost).
• Require an adult signature at delivery. It cannot be dropped off or delivered to anyone under the age of 21.
So, if I could find this out in mere seconds why could the clerk or supervisor not take the time to look this up for the customer. This is failure to support the customers’ needs.
Supervisor professionalism and conduct. The supervisor working the day of the return was dismissive and unconcerned of their oversight. Sending a customer to another business that the organization has joined a partnership with shows a lack of loyalty to the customer base and integrity to the ownership of their wrongdoing. The dismissive and cowardly attitude of the supervisor is appalling. The supervisor clearly did not want to deal with my wife and would send the clerk out to talk with her vice handling the situation himself.
It is the duty of a supervisor to handle a complaint of this nature. Not behind the curtain to allow a clerk with no decision-making capability to try and explain why they would not provide a refund. To tell a customer they take a risk when shipping a package is unacceptable. There is no risk if the supervisor has properly trained their employees and know how to identify restricted items. This is a failure to lead by example and be accountable for your decisions.
Corporate responsibility. UPS needs to step up the training of personnel that are receiving packages for shipment. It is their responsibility to ensure that the clerks and supervisors know how to locate the restrictions of items. We as consumers rely on the “experts” to properly identify restricted items. I find it hard to believe that a company as large as UPS is not capable or is not able to provide the requisite guidance that is needed to operate a successful store. Most customers would not think of perfume or cologne as alcohol, most people tend to think of that being associate to drinking spirits, wine or beer. That is why we rely on the business to provide the proper guidance. This is failure.

Every single time an order of mine (or my household) I have an issue with my things not being delivered. When we call their Customer Service Dept. they are next to useless. Ever since I moved to Little Rock, a few years ago I have almost had to resort to in store shopping ONLY!!! Now, with my fiance & our teenage daughter going to school online, we can't always do that. We have lots of different things coming to the house almost daily. If anything gets shipped UPS, I go ahead and prepare for a headache and aggregation.
The last 3 days I, my son and fiance (he was only home today) have been home waiting on several deliveries. Yesterday (12/27) they claimed the driver attempted to deliver and no one was home, so he left 1 of those "Sorry we missed you" sticky notes. The only problem with that is; at the time he claims to have been at our apartment I was sweeping out the apartment and the front stoop. I can tell you I never saw a UPS truck or employee here.
Today (12/28) again driver claimed to have been here and again no one was home so he left another sticky note. Yet, again at the time he claims he was here, my fiance was walking across street to store and never saw a UPS truck or employee. So we called their customer service on both days and the agents were of no help. They could (or would) only promise the driver would be back out here the next business day. Their local hub called us back both days; yesterday the only thing the lady would say is that they would send it out again. Today, Mrs. ** from the same hub, actually took the time to talk to us and try to figure out what has been going on. She then said, "I know who the driver is and there is a supervisor on site. I'm taking these notes to them now and see what they can do to fix this." She was amazing!!! Anyone else I've had to deal with, a waste of fresh air.
I don't have any of these issues with FedEx or the postal service, who delivered 2 of the 4 packages that were to be here yesterday. Needless to say those are the only packages to make it here this week!!! I constantly have to have them take it to the closest store, 45 min away on public transportation (our only transportation). I absolutely despise this company and can only pray that they close down soon.
