Had instances where Telecheck declined my checks. Never had these experiences over 20 years of check writing. My funds are way more than sufficient for my purchases. One instance I was purchasing a computer for my granddaughter and got denied because they said I have no record of check writing at OfficeMax and yet for a large amount at that. Give me a break, how often would I buy a computer and they're not cheap, duh. Luckily I had the cash to pay for it or my granddaughter would be so disappointed! The cash I had was to be used for other places that don't accept checks such as gas stations, farmer's markets or even places to eat. Then Telecheck tells me I am writing more than usual amounts of checks so they declined me once again at Walmart.

My husband since has retired and set up a direct deposit of his retirement into our checking account. Had to explain to Telecheck that's the reason for more frequent check writing. And then tells me to not write another check for at least a week because my check writing is being monitored. Well then yesterday, which was well over a week, I wrote a check at the grocery store which I have been doing so for over 20 years declined my check once again. The reason they said is the store updated their system and have no records of my accounts in the new system. Telecheck is losing money for businesses. Telecheck is making consumers frustrated, embarrassed and also losing money for the businesses they suppose to be protecting. All I can say is, "Lose Money".

I went to Walmart to buy some food to make a good dinner for my girlfriend, I wrote a check, tore it and handed it to the cashier and it comes back as declined. I knew it had to have been a mistake because I definitely had over $500 in that account but after running it a second time, the same result was achieved. The cashier handed me the printout and told me I could call Telecheck and figure it out from there, she was very kind and kept the entire thing very discreet.

I went to call the company and had to go through a 10 minute automated menu system where I was asked to put in the information about my check TWICE, then provide my zip code before I was transferred to someone in India who took over from there. I was asked a lot of personal information to "verify" my account identity, this included my name, address, phone number and social security number. Then I was placed on hold for a few minutes before my call was disconnected.

I called back again, thinking that it was just a mistake and I went through the whole process all over again, just to get disconnected AGAIN! So I called a third time, I finally had a good connection and she said she would need to call my bank and conference the call to verify information. After being put on hold for the third time she comes back on the line and told me that I needed to call during banking hours... *facepalm*. I told her that I had called during banking hours but by the time I was able to get a good connection, my bank was closed, all she was able to say was "Sorry, but you need to call during banking hours." And that was the extent of it.

Something that could have taken 15 minutes with a good connection turned into an hour and a half back and forth with these people trying to get a check that was written for less than $50 to get approved, which never happened. They said that they needed more information about me and my account, whatever happened to just asking for an ID? My ID IS my information and I already don't really like having to show my papers to someone just pay for something in the first place, now you need my address, phone number, zip code and social security number? This is ludicrous and as soon as my new Debit card comes in the mail I will not be writing anymore checks to any Telecheck using companies, it's just a pain in the ass.

Suggestion for everyone getting denied by Telecheck: Here is my form of protest. I will be going to every store, fill up my cart and I will attempt to purchase by check. When it is declined, I will simply walk out of the store and leave the cart there. I'll be sure to put frozen foods and perishable products in the cart that will go to waste. I can only hope that if this happens enough to enough grocery stores and they start to incur a cost due to Telecheck declining checks, then perhaps they will rethink their reliance on Telecheck.

I guess the question is whether Lowe's Food and Food Lion would rather take a chance on my check clearing or having to quickly return everything to the freezer and cooler and/or throw out the merchandise because it has been sitting out too long. After they lose enough money through wasted food and effort due to Telecheck's arbitrary and onerous approval process, perhaps the cost of having to use Telecheck will outweigh the cost associated with wasted products and staff effort resulting from Telecheck denials.

Yesterday, I attempted to use an ACH check through Amazon because I didn't want to "test the waters" in person at a local grocery store where my kids know half the cashiers. Predictably, it was declined. Called the 800 number and spent close to 2 hours where a supervisor said that on a scale of 1-20, I had an 18 before the NSF and now I was back at ZERO despite not owing any money. She said that she would manually set my rating to a 20 so that I should not encounter this problem again.

Felt pretty good about that so got cocky and went to Food Lion today and attempted to purchase 20 bucks worth of dog food and get 50 bucks cash back. Called (by now they are on speed dial) and had to deal with the same song and dance and accusatory tones and being told that I had to "rebuild" my history by making "smaller purchases"... Yesterday I was declined for an 8.00 purchase... How do you get smaller than that? Then they wanted to call my bank and verify that I had funds in my account. My bank won't do that. There was no amount of reasoning, arguing or anything I could do. I told them I thought this had been resolved... and on top of that I'm still out the amount of the original check that cleared.

Tried to write a check for $500 to pay for new tires at Walmart and Telecheck declined it. I called two different 1-800 numbers trying to do something to fix this and get my check to go through, but they only give the reason why it didn't go through and no options to try and correct the problem or talk to an actual representative. So now I'm stranded at Walmart without a vehicle even though I have the money in my account to afford the tires because I "don't have a long enough history of checks through Telecheck". This is completely unacceptable. I wrote a check at this same location a week ago for $120 and it went through without a problem.

I have been shopping at Redner's Markets for 20 years, always wrote checks for the groceries, and today my check was denied. The clerk gave me a code but couldn't explain anything. I have enough money in my checking account, so I put the groceries back on the shelve. And next I went directly to the bank, and they said a lot of people were denied paying for their groceries at Redner's because their checks were denied. Of course, they also had no clue why, so I went back out to Redner's and talked to the manager and she said call Telecheck. So I went home and called Telecheck to only get a computer voice which didn't help, so the only way to solve this problem is never shop at Redner's Food Market again or get rid of Telecheck!!!

Telecheck declined a check written at a local grocery store. There was a ticket with the merchant number and denial number. I called and, after approximately 10 minutes of punching in numbers and holding, I finally spoke with a person. They stated they were unable to help me unless I gave them my checking number. The lady said she could not/would not help with the denial number only.

Not only is there the inconvenience of the check not being accepted, there was the utter waste of time contacting the company. It seems that their denial process is random. In the setting of identity theft and fraud, requiring the bank account is asinine. It is unclear how a company can be responsible for denying checks when they do not have this information. Either they are randomly denying checks in order to phish for personal information or they are completely unwilling to provide reasons for their actions. Either way, I would strongly recommend that any company using their services reconsider. This will ultimately lose business for that company. We will not return to the store where the check was denied via Telecheck.

I contacted Telecheck at (877) 678-5898 based on the message received from Sprint, and after pushing 0 to try to get a live person for 5+ minutes, finally got someone who proceeded to explain to me that since I don't have a history of writing checks, that they had the right to decline my payment.

Are you freaking kidding me? Really? How are they even permitted to do that? Establish a history by writing checks for smaller amounts? Who are they kidding? I hardly ever write checks. Why would I start now just for the purpose of establishing a history WITH THEM? I should be able to write a check no matter how infrequent and have that check accepted... PERIOD!

I cannot believe that in 2016, with the level of development of technology in banking (and every other facet of everyday life) that this practice is even acceptable. If I present a check, I have the money to cover that check and it should be honored... THE END. Why would Telecheck establish such an arbitrary rule? And better yet, why is no one checking such an absurd and idiotic practice? Companies like Telecheck need to be put out of their misery. Bunch of freaking crooks!

I was informed I need to make purchases of smaller amounts to create a history with them before I am allowed to make a payment of $84 (even though I have the money in my account). This is absurd!!! I received a letter in the mail on 12/12/15 from TRS Recovery Services and telecheck. The letter stated that I made a $480.00 purchase from Amazon FPS on 10/13/2015 and then stopped payment on the check. The letter had "Notice of Unpaid Electronic Transfer" at the top of the page. It read that the above referenced electronic transaction could not be completed because either I had stopped payment on this transaction or my account may not be authorized for ACH transactions.

Telecheck has purchased this dishonored electronic fund transfer referenced. As a result, TeleCheck has forwarded the debt to its affiliate, TRS Recovery Services, Inc. for collection. Your file has been assigned to the Recovery Department where it will be given to a professional collection agent. It stated that I purchased an item in the amount of $480.00 from Amazon FPS and a check was written on October 13, 2015 and a $25 returned check fee was added. I do not have a bank account with the bank they are claiming it was written on, **. I have not ordered anything from Amazon and I called Amazon and they verified that I had not ordered anything from them.

I called TRS Services and after reluctance I gave them my current bank info, driver's license number, and social security number and they said that I had bought something an account from ** Bank. I have never banked with this bank. I went to ** bank personally on 12/14/2015 and the bank verified that I did not have an account with them and that I have never used an account with them to purchase any items from Amazon, nor had anyone else committed identity fraud with my information. And they also verified that no one had ever opened an account in my name. I called TRS back and was hung up on 7 different times by their representatives. I called Telecheck back and was told to call TRS.

Both companies, Telecheck and TRS Recovery Services have made an error and are refusing to rectify the situation. They are wanting me to get a certified letter from ** saying that I have never banked with them, and then send them 3 pages of information including all of my personal banking information and a picture of my drivers license. It should be up to this company to fix this.

I have not ordered any items from Amazon as verified by Amazon and I do not have an account and never have with ** bank. I am having a hard time even understanding how Telecheck says that a transaction occurred with an account from ** bank when there has never been an account in my name with said bank and also how a transaction for $480.00 of products were bought from Amazon when Amazon verified to me that the transaction never occurred. I did not order from amazon and I want to know how and why this company has my information and are making false claims and threats against my character and my credit. I do not know if I can file a police report because no one has used my identity because there has never been a ** bank account in my name and no items were purchased from Amazon. This company needs to be stopped!

Update: After contacting the company more than 11-15 times, calling Amazon several times, going to the bank I was accused of using, and filing a report with the BBB and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau this is the response the company sent me through the Consumer Bureau:

"Thank you for contacting TRS Recovery Services regarding ref# **. While this matter is being researched, the status of this account has been updated in our systems as a "Dispute," and collection efforts will cease until our investigation has been completed. Also, this dispute has been reported to TRS' affiliate TeleCheck Services, Inc. (TeleCheck), a consumer reporting agency, and the status of this debt has been updated in TeleCheck's negative database, as well. Be assured that information you provide is legally protected from unauthorized disclosure. Please feel free to contact me at **, if you have any further questions."

A week later I received from the Consumer Bureau another response: "While investigating this matter, TRS was notified by its affiliate, TeleCheck Services, Inc. (TeleCheck), that one of your identifiers was erroneously attached to another account. This disassociation has been corrected in TeleCheck's system and we assure you that we have removed your information from TRS' system as well. TRS regrets any inconvenience and/or confusion you have experienced as a result of this issue. Be assured that information you provide is legally protected from unauthorized disclosure. Please feel free to contact me at **, if you have any further questions."

First off, what is an identifier and how was it attached to another account? How did this company come to be in possession of my private, personal and financial information? Does this company also know that according to their lawsuit where they were required to pay the US government 3.5 million for doing what they did to me, that, according to the final judgement they are forbidden from: Requiring the consumer to contact a third party directly to resolve a dispute over the completeness or accuracy of any item of information contained in the consumer's file.

Also forbidden from: Imposing limitations or conditions before conducting an investigation. I was told by TRS and Telecheck representatives to contact a third party, the bank in question, ** Bank which I have never banked with, to prove my innocence and to do an investigation of the matter on my own. They refused to investigate this matter or file a "dispute" until I mailed them a form asking for VERY personal information including: (l) your name, (2) your address, (3) the bank routing and account number relating to the reported records, (4) a copy of your driver's license or other state-issued identification, (5) if the matter involves the opening of a new bank account, your social security number, (6) specific details of the records you are disputing (check or transaction number, date, amount, and payee), and (7) the reason for the dispute (suspected forgery, suspected identity theft, etc.).

Also, (a) TeleChecks Forgery/Identity Theft Declaration form, completed, (b) copy of a filed police report, (c) completed FTC Identity Theft Report Affidavit available at www.ftc.gov, or (d) completed bank affidavit or declaration. The forms read to mail these private documents, where anyone can get and open in transit, to their company.

I also am expected to send all of this private information to and trust a company that made such an irresponsible error, hung up the phone on me several times and that I had to call at least 11-15 times or more to try to get someone to help me, ending in more confusion and frustration. I was told by one representative that I needed to "Stop trying to confuse myself," as if I were ignorant and then she hung up on me. I was hung up on at least 7 times or more by them. Amazon's legal department told me that if TRS nor Telecheck could provide me with an order number it was a scam by TRS and Telecheck. They should not be asking for personal information over the phone.

A representative with Telecheck also told me that I had to give them my current bank account number (which had nothing to do with their claim against me), routing number, Social Security number, Driver's License number and address to find out any information against their claim, OVER THE PHONE TO A STRANGER! Identity fraud is a HUGE problem and these companies are treating consumers' private information with utter disregard and something needs to be done to stop this from happening to someone else.

Unreal. I had a business account check from my employer issued to purchase a laptop from Best Buy in West DSM, IA. The check amount was below $1500 and was declined in the store. The clerk in the store 1) never seemed to have seen that before and 2) had no ability to help. I immediately drove to my office to call the number that printed out on the back of the declined check. After hearing the automated explanation which was that there was "insufficient history" of use for Telecheck to approve the transaction, I selected the option to talk to a human being. That was a mistake. Tony essentially only confirmed what the robot had and starting telling me that he couldn't give me any information about the check or their process because I wasn't the CEO. To be fair, I became agitated and Tony hung up on me. The next day I called back to further inquire as to what I am supposed to do.

Again after talking to the robot, a woman informed me that I would have to wait 7 days, get an entirely new check issued by my employer, go back to Best Buy... and MAYBE it would be approved by their system. She also suggested that I write checks in smaller amounts to build up a history so that larger checks would go through. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! I am sure my boss and accountants will go for issuing random checks for me to spread around town so that we can "build up a history with Telecheck merchants". I can appreciate retailers wanting to protect themselves from fraud but the companies that enter into a business agreement with Telecheck to be their gatekeeper are being done a great disservice. More than enough money in the bank!!! They base it upon check writing history or which I rarely write checks anymore because I use a debit card. The debit has a limit, so this time I wrote a check. Check writing history at certain merchants is not a reason to decline a check. Poor credit, yes! No money in the checking account, yes! This does not fit within their guidelines. Guess what does not fit within mine: patronizing business. I get the run around with when I try to purchase an item. There are other business where I don't have to suffer the embarrassment or hassle. The clerk processed the check and told me there was a "problem". I asked her to run it again and there was a problem again. I went out to my car and called the bank to see what problem there was and they said I had sufficient funds to cover the check. Earlier this week I spent cash at Family Dollar but it was deducted from my bank account. There was also another deduction there that I did not spend at all. I've been using the same account at that store for over a year several times a week and have never had any problem whatsoever. Report these people to the Federal Trade Commission and I'm all for filing a class action lawsuit against them. By reading all the complaints on this site, someone said they had been sued in 2014 for the very same thing and nothing has changed. She writes checks to the church, gardener, health care provider, utilities, etc. but seldom writes check to retail stores as a debit card is used. Telecheck says it is because she has no history with them. So she had to borrow money from the person driving her in order to complete the purchase. This should be considered a crime no different than theft. Telecheck has stolen her pride, her dignity and her ability to purchase items because of some computer algorithm. The wife has been with me in Wisconsin since mid June. We just purchased a home and she opened an account with a well known bank. During the last week of October 2015, she made purchases at Festival Foods, paying by check without issue. Then on 1 Nov, she tried to pay for purchases at the same Festival Foods with her check -- denied 4 times. No real reason given -- they gave her a small note to contact TeleCheck and a copy of the register slips for denied transaction. She paid by credit card and left.

She was a bit upset when she arrived home and when I was told why, I got livid. I've had a denied experience with TeleCheck before in Michigan at a Meijer. I took the check, receipts, and slip for TeleCheck and called. I was extremely upset by the time I got someone on the phone after going through several attempts to get the information in their interactive response system. The first individual was a complete idiot and after getting louder with this individual, they dropped the call. I called in again and, after loud discussion, and getting my wife to authorize the call with them, they wanted additional privacy information. I requested a supervisor.

After a few minutes, someone came online with me on the call. I demanded to know why my wife's check was denied. After several back and forth comments, they finally surrendered that it was refused because they didn't have enough information in their database and denied the transaction. TeleCheck does not check for funds sufficiency. They simply deny your check based off a pattern of check writing. This does not make sense... My wife had already made previous purchases by check with the same store. They wanted additional information about wife's previous accounts, etc. After refusing to provide the information and getting their poor apologies, I inquired how they could make a decision on a new account based solely off check writing pattern, especially in present day. After getting loud to drown this individual's poor excuses out, the call was dropped.

I promptly called the store manager at Festival Foods and relayed they have a PR problem that they need to address before they wind up in the news along with TeleCheck. The manager will address the issue with the service and offered to talk with my wife himself or with one of the two other managers at her next visit. Any company wanting to do business with TeleCheck must be willing to risk loss of business and reputation due to TeleCheck's poor decision processes. Anyone providing TeleCheck their social security number and other privacy information needs to understand they do so at the risk of possible identity theft.

She did ask for the bank account number and my address and a bunch of personal information that she could add to their database. Finally, she said the bank account was new or doesn't get used enough. The account is from 1959 and gets used in spurts because it is a business account. I am rehabbing a house and needed supplies. I have written over $8k to Lowe's on the same account in the last 3 weeks and haven't had any problems. I now know to just avoid buying at Walmart.

My wife wrote a check at a grocery store (Strack and Van Til in Chesterton, Indiana) last night for $86.47. She had over $500 in her checking account. The grocery store used TeleCheck for its transactions. TeleCheck declined her check. This is at a store where my wife works, and many of the customers in line were familiar with who she is. The check was declined four times. Upon calling TeleCheck, my wife had to enter her information several times. When she finally was put in touch with a person, he spoke very fast, had a very strong, non-United States accent, and she couldn't understand much of what he said to her. She found out that TeleCheck was the entity that declined her check, and it was due to 'activity that was out of the ordinary' or 'suspect activity'. My wife regularly shops at this grocery store (and works there), so there is no way possible for this to be suspect activity or out of the ordinary.

This is the second time this has happened in the past year. There was another time when she was declined because TeleCheck claimed they did not have 'enough information on file' about my wife's checking account and practices. In addition to this, the Better Business Bureau would not allow us to file a complaint because it did not meet their criteria. I am nearly to the point of launching a public campaign. TeleCheck is supposed to process checks for accounts that have sufficient funds, NOT spy on overall consumer habits. We did NOT hire TeleCheck as a 'fraud protection' company to protect our accounts, so my wife's spending patterns are NONE of their business!

I ordered an item on Amazon.com, using my bank account for funding. I have previously used my bank account for funding items purchased on Amazon. I was contacted weeks later saying that my check did not go through. By that time the item I had chosen not to keep had been returned to Amazon.com. At the time of the transaction, I had much, more than adequate funds available.

Yet I was charged $25 and money for the item that had already been returned. It took many calls to Amazon and several people to finally get through to someone that submitted the right form to the right department. But still the $25 charge remains from Telecheck Services. My bank has provided a letter stating that there was no attempt to complete a transaction at that time and verifying that there were adequate funds in the account. Still I have to jump through hoops to get this situation resolved. Unless this situation gets properly resolved with Amazon's help, I am no longer a customer of Amazon.

I was given a receipt to call TeleCheck, so I did and was told that back in 2008 I had a "bad check" for $73.00 and was then connected with an Agent from TRS, who then confirmed that a "bad check" from approximately 7 years ago, was still showing up in their system.

On September 19th, I ordered a replacement charger for my husband's laptop. It cost the wee price of $19.90. I won't go into detail about how this charger sucks because it stopped functioning (that's for another time), but not only this, now I have to deal with these shadowy people who I've NEVER heard of. I decided to put my bank information on Amazon because my husband and I use our cards a certain way. One card is for bills and the other is for spending money. Well, this particular day I had the bill card. Not wanting to start mixing up my spending, I saw that Amazon allowed you to use your account/routing number. I was ecstatic and put it in so I could use the correct account.

I should have never done that. The account never even showed a pending transaction for days. I wondered where the transaction was, but I never saw it. I even received my product before it appeared on my account. I assumed everything was fine now that the transaction had appeared.

On Oct. 6th, I received a strange email from Amazon stating that TRS Recovery Services has received my payment, and thus a hold on my account was removed. Strange. My account on Amazon was never on hold. I was able to use it as I always had. I disregarded it considering whatever had happened over and done with. Only to find that today (Oct. 9th), two more strange things occurred. Another one of those emails was sent to me, same as before, and also my bank account had been charged $25 even dollars. I considered the fact that one of my transactions had more tax on it than estimated, but that still seemed odd.

I had placed one more order during this time frame, a total of $26.21. I promptly contacted Amazon's Customer Service. No one knew where that fee had come from until I had to have a billing specialist email me. He explained that Telecheck, or TRS, were the payment processors used for Amazon and said that check writing privileges would be restored. I wondered to myself, what check? I didn't write a check! I thought the funds were going to be directly debited from the account. I guess that's my fault for not understanding that. This was my first time using that service. Even if that was the case though, adequate funds were in the account at all times to cover this. I was directed to Telecheck for further help.

The woman was rude, tried to talk over me, just in general unhelpful. I had to get loud with her just to get her to stop trying to shovel down my throat information that didn't help. When I asked her where the information on Amazon was about them being the check processors, and who the 25 dollar fee was paid to, she said that I should have received an email about the collection attempt. The email she explained was not the same one I got from Amazon that I spoke on above. It had more detailed information that should have been included, and I never received it. She also said they received the fee. I was upset needless to say.

During this transaction, I assumed this was between Amazon and myself, not a third party. They asked me for all kinds of private information, which worries me. I spoke with a supervisor who didn't really speak English well, and very unenthusiastically offered her apologies for the inconvenience. I'm sure she was reading a script. Either way, she told me 30 days to resolve the dispute for them to decide whether or not I would get my money back. I had to get irate again and explain that I would not wait 30 days for them to refund money that rightfully belongs to me. She then told me she'd made a mistake, and that it would only be 10 days. Odd.

After going round in circles with this woman, I received a complaint number and was told they would be investigating. I don't know what because there isn't anything to investigate. They stole my money. I don't know who they are. I did business with AMAZON, not them. They have no right to my funds, and Amazon doesn't have anything visible I can see that talks about them at all. Maybe it's written obscurely in a terms and conditions area. I think that's underhanded and shady. I believe something should be visible when you are putting in your banking information that states,

"Amazon uses Telecheck and TRS Recovery Services to process your payment when you use your bank account. Please be aware that should you chose this method of payment, you will be using an Echeck, and your transaction may take x-x business days to process. Should funds not be available, a return check fee of $25 will apply payable to Telecheck (TRS Recovery Services, Inc.)"

Is that so hard!? Instead of hurting your consumers? LOYAL consumers? Not to mention, I got that second email... They are probably going to try and take another 25 dollars from me again just because I ordered. I'm not happy with this at all and I will be making sure to let everyone know to NOT use your bank account with Amazon. Be patient and wait for another payment method because it isn't worth this headache.

So I'm having to make all my online purchases via direct bank transactions. And then tonight (9/30/15), not one, not two, but three (3!) transactions (one of which had been processing for two days) are declined by this "Telecheck" service. So I go to check (for the second time in 10 minutes) that I've got my cash in the bank and that it's enough.

Sure enough, my account has more than enough cash in it. So then I try to see what the ** is going on, and I get no info from anywhere about this company except that they really love to shaft people for no apparent reason. So I go back to Amazon and send them an angry email, and now I'm waiting to hear back on that - so I can either get my stuff or tear someone a new one since my bank account is all I have to pay stuff with, and I'm indisposed during operating hours. I went to my car, grabbed my cell and called Wells Fargo customer service. They said there was no hold up with them and connected me to Telecheck. Oh, joy, Telecheck is automated! I had to enter my account number and then enter damn near every number on the face of the check. Then I'm told that my check met several parameters of a fraudulent check and so sorry nothing can be done, but if I want to talk to a representative press 1 and hold the line. They then asked for my zip code as written on the check, which I entered. I received a error message and was hung up on. So I re-entered the store, told the salesman what had happened and he agreed to try and run it again. Same result.

He asked his manager if it could maybe be manually entered and was told that Telecheck doesn't allow that, and they've done all they could at their end. He did give me Telecheck's number to call, so I ran through their automated dog and pony show again. This time I waited and actually got a real human that told me she could find no record of that transaction. She checked acct. number, drivers lic. number and SSN. Nope, absolutely no record of that transaction. She told me to go back to the store and have the manager manually input the routing and account number and if/when it didn't work to call from the store so they could resolve this (don't see how... different operator each call). So back to the store I went to be told again that's not allowed and there's nothing they can do at their end. Hooray, full-circle runaround! Everyone at Best Buy was apologetic for no reason. It's not their fault or mine either. And that's what's so damn frustrating.

I received a letter shortly after regarding collection for bad checks from a check verification company. I contacted my bank and sent them all necessary paperwork. No problem. After sitting with my credit union fraud division and talking with the electronic security division no records exist showing Telecheck attempted to collect on the checks from the Credit union.

Telecheck never put the checks into the bank system. This leads the bank fraud division and myself to believe that Telecheck saw that the checks were in the system as were stolen and filed with the DA to try to scare me out of 841.02. I requested the evidence from the Solano County DA and was informed that they have no evidence. I asked them to formally request the evidence from Telecheck that they followed the law pertaining to dept collection (copies of checks) and a copy of the letter notifying me of the check fraud. She said, "Good luck." Telecheck has still not provided any evidence to the district Atty at this time. My health isn't good and this was very stressful at a time when I couldn't handle it well.

I was contacted on this matter and I was told this would be taken care of. Time will tell. I am still not satisfied with their answer because I am not a risk in writing a check at this business since I have been doing it every week or every two weeks for years. I have never had a check written there returned for insufficient funds or any other reason.

Apparently since June and July 2015 I have written too many checks there for purchases. 5 checks were written in June and the 6th one was denied and in July (3) checks were written and the 4th was denied. All these checks were good for the purchases made. Apparently Walmart has a problem with me making too many purchases with good checks. Maybe they don't want my good business. I prefer not to use credit cards if I don't have to and have always used personal checks or cash.

Now it seems I am being targeted for doing so.

With Telecheck Services, it makes no difference whether or not the checks are good for the amount of the purchase. From my own inquiries, this is a common practice of theirs and there are a lot of people with similar problems with this company. They were fined for 3.5 million dollars in 2014 for fair credit reporting act violations, but this has not stopped them at all. As far as I am concerned this matter will probably not be completely resolved at all.

2 people had stolen a check of ours out of our mailbox and had it written out to Wal-Mart for $831.38. Well, we went to the bank and disputed it. We had the original check register for $75.21. The bank did their work and found that the check was not written by us, so we got the $831.38 back in our account. We live in Minnesota and the check was written to a Wal-Mart in Wisconsin.

So today I get a letter from TRS Recovery Center, saying that Telecheck purchased our debt from Wal-Mart and we now owe THEM $916.38, the amount of the check plus $25 for returned check fee. These douchebags bought the debt from Wal-Mart because we put a stop payment on the check, and now they aren't going to get one red cent from ANYONE.

You would think that someone at Wal-Mart would check an ID for an $831.38 check, ESPECIALLY when it is from out of state! The thieves' names are Nyenti ** and Detphakhanh **. I had proper ID and more than enough money in my checking account to cover the cost. The fact that Telecheck rejected the check was not only exceptionally frustrating, but very embarrassing. I have paid for more expensive things through other businesses with checks before and never had any issue. To complicate issues, Telecheck will take 7-10 days to "update" my account. No real explanation as to what that means since the jerk who took my call essentially said "Sorry 7-10 days, call back then" and hung up on me. I will be pushing my girlfriend to other stores this week and will try my hardest to avoid making this purchase through this store.

I was denied because I do not have any history of writing checks. Well big duh. It is 2015 no one really writes personal checks for purchases anymore.

I don't write checks so I don't why I'd be getting a denial plus it was my savings account which I rarely use to pay for things so this left me perplexed as well as upset. I've used my savings account in the past to pay my electric bill with Entergy a couple of times & never have I been declined! I had more than enough to cover the little $39 charge for the order & now I have to wait another week before I get my order (had to use a different payment method) because of this company.

Because of all the adverse reviews I've read I'll make sure not to use my accounts to place orders with Telecheck or not deal with those businesses at all since having money in the bank to cover purchases & not having checks returned or declined means absolutely nothing to this company which apparently has criterias that has nothing to do with responsible banking consumers like myself! Telecheck does more harm than good for businesses & they should look elsewhere for services because they will lose consumer business because of these unwarranted denials.

I am not fond of writing checks and fail to see why an independent company can keep me from my cash because of a lack of check writing in their opinion. Furthermore, each month I do write large checks to pay my rent and bills. I don't understand why they don't face consequences after the 100s of complaints I have seen. Take the human factor out of whose check you will accept and leave it to a machine to decide if you are good for the check. POOR BUSINESS.

I opened a new checking account and wrote a check at the grocery store. I was told my check couldn't be accepted, they had no way to override the code they were getting. I called TeleCheck and wanted to know why my check wasn't accepted. He told me I didn't have enough history with TeleCheck for them to accept my check. He then asked me questions, like address, phone number, etc. He also told me that I had written a number of checks in a short time and that was another reason it may have not been accepted. HELLO IT IS A CHECKING ACCOUNT! I asked “how many checks were acceptable to write.” No answer. He told me I was on file now and it should be fine. Fast forward five days, I am at Best Buy, write a check and it is declined. I am embarrassed/furious at the same time. I call TeleCheck and tell them “I want this problem solved”.

They apologized multiple times and said they couldn't do anything. It was because I had never written a check at Best Buy from this account. HELLO it’s a new account. I asked for a supervisor and she told me she couldn't say when/where my check would be accepted. She said “it might be and it might not be”. I asked if I should call and ask if they would accept it and she said no I could only call after the check wasn't accepted. I proceeded to tell her “that wasn't going to happen” and after all it is a checking account so it would make sense that I write checks for things. I was told to call during business hours and ask for the O.O.P. office but after reading some of these comments I may save myself the aggravation. I know for certain that if a business uses this company, I for one will not be supporting that business anymore.

Months later, Telecheck called me telling me they think I should owe them a $20 return check fee for Amazon's failure to perform. I called them back later and they said they looked deeper into their system and I should owe them another $20 for something or other. Decided to buy a television also along with a sound system. Paid with our 1st check in an account we had several thousands in and Telecheck rejected it. Used another checking account that had about the same amount in and it also rejected it. Luckily we also had a credit card with us that (at least) wasn't refused.

Called Telecheck afterward and was told the 1st account they had no record of, so the risk management was bad. The 2nd account wasn't used enough and also 'according' to their risk management was poor. We use both accounts, pay bills with them, have a excellent credit score and never had problems before. We called Best Buy later and asked why they couldn't have called our bank to confirm that one or the other account could clear the amount owed. The manager told us that's not Best Buy's policy.

I called Telecheck and went through their automated service which said they couldn't find anything wrong but i did not have enough history with them. LOL. I've been writing checks on my account since the mid 80's. Finally got to a real person with Telecheck and the only thing she could suggest was to write smaller checks often. Called my bank and they have never heard of this nonsense. Checked my credit monitoring service and they have no indication of fraud. I've read that when Telecheck approves a check, if it then bounces they are responsible... Could this be why so many checks are being denied?

I wrote a check at Walmart and it was declined. I had plenty of funds available, so was very confused. I called Telecheck with the number on receipt that also showed code for the decline. I was informed that a check had been returned at McKay's Market (I was $20 past $300 overdraft limit). Was then advised that when check was ran through my bank account again and all fees incurred had been paid I would be able to write checks again in 7-10 days. I called Telecheck again after 10 days to be sure I could write a check and was told at that time, all was good. Wrong!! I went to McKay's again and my check was declined again. There was plenty of funds to cover the check.

So I called Telecheck again (third time). This time a male, customer service representative told me that the previous person I had spoke to could not have told me I could write checks. That's not how it works and proceeded to read a script. When I kept interrupting him trying to get some real answers, he finally said to me, that it would be an additional 10 days before I could write a check and possibly have to start over (the 7-10 day thing) because my check had been declined. On top of this they insisted I owed them (Telecheck) $35 for the returned check. I paid my bank their return check fee and the store's fee. Why would I have to pay Telecheck and why can they hold control over someone's checking account and the bank has no say so. A checking account with funds deposited every two weeks and I can't even pay bills with a check. I ask, is this legal?

I received two letters from Telecheck saying that the transaction I authorized at the above merchant location cannot be completed because the banking information was not read correctly by the check reader. I never have wrote checks to these places and these letters were sent to an address I haven't lived at for four mouths. I called the number on the letter and the lady told me it was from a bank account I never had and told me a phone number that was never mine. She gave me another number to call and said my information was probably attached to the wrong file. She said to call the disassociation department and they would take care of it. The funny part is even the old address they sent the letters to was not right. The street was spelled wrong and the zip code was wrong.

So I called the number and they just pumped me for more information like my current address and phone number then the lady told me they needed this to correct the problem. I gave it to her and she told me it could take a mouth to fix and gave me a case number. I was not happy and told her I wanted the Problem fixed now. Of course she said they had to do an investigation and said they would call me or send a letter clearing me. A couple of days later I received a message on my phone when I was at work saying they needed more information like my license number. They gave me a name and number to call with the business hours. I called back multiple time during the business hours and no one answered. So I called the original numbers because I had them on my phone and talk to another lady that couldn't help me because I didn't have the case number, because I was at work.

She tried getting in contact with the number that was given to me by the lady that called me and even she couldn't get a hold of anybody. She said to call back with my case number so they could help me. I called when I got home and I was given more runaround and a new case number. I don't know whats going on and someone else is suppose to call me back. The company doesn't know whats going on within its self and l was told because they're different departments. All I can say is I am glad I am not alone with my dislike for this company. Had some work done on my car today at the dealership and only had a check to pay with as I had recently lost my debit card and was waiting on a new one to be mailed. Bill came to $500. When I gave them a check I was informed that it had been declined. I have never heard of a check being declined but the cashier advised I call the company and inquire. I followed the prompts and received a recording stating the reason for being denied which I still did not understand. I waited 5 mins for a rep to pick up and spoke with a female who could barely speak English. She stated that since I do not have a history of writing checks that factored into the decision to decline it. I told her that I normally use a debit card and just use checks in emergencies.

I asked her how I could have more than enough money in my account to cover the check but still be declined. Her answer was that they do not have access to the accounts and that based on my lack of history and the fact that the check was 500 it was deemed a risk. She advised me that if I write small checks to gain history it would help. I thanked her for not helping and hung up. How can a company work like this? Luckily the dealer was kind enough to let me take my car to the bank and get cash or else I would have been screwed. Hope you go out of business since it looks like you have more negative reviews than positive.

Calls to telecheck are useless. They don't care how much money you have in your account or whether you have bounced a check or not. All they care about is your check writing history. And they won't put in an override to allow the transaction to complete. Their solution? Write a check for a smaller amount. Brilliant. Like I write checks for more than I ever need to?

If TeleCheck markets itself as being modern, then why does a consumer have to sit and wait on a phone line to find out what happened? Why don't they offer online services so that a consumer can view info and request corrections? The answer is because they don't want to - they are really more interested in the debt collection business. They've already paid the FTC more than $3.5 million because they forced consumers to write, provide documentation, and use paper intense methods, which keep the problem going longer.

Here's what happened to me: I've been paying for my groceries by check at the same grocery chain for the past 25 years. Last week, my check was declined but the store manager did an override on it because it was happening to many other shoppers. It's embarrassing to know that the cashier and manager know that it was declined. I was fortunate that the manager approved the override. So no - TeleCheck doesn't care if there's money in your checking account. All they care about is a risk rating that they calculate about you. Terrible...

I investigated my credit report and saw nothing unexpected or unusual, except that my FICO score had changed slightly. Then I contacted TeleCheck and after listening to some "factoids" which made very little sense, I realized that my risk rating had changed because I closed a credit card account about 6 weeks ago. I closed the card because the bank had their collection department call me on the day after the next bill was created. They were trying to "help" me make a payment 27 days early so that I could avoid derogatory reporting about being over my credit card limit! It was $2 over the credit card limit because the annual enrollment fee was charged plus 2 other fees which the customer service person could not identify (close to $100 for the enrollment and 2 fees). I made a payment online while I was speaking to customer service and when they could not identify both fees, I closed the account. (One fee was a mysterious "account servicing fee", supposedly for being able to look at account information online).

My other credit card is well below its limit but my risk percentage changed because now I "only" have a single credit card. Suddenly, I've become a check writing risk - because I closed an account. Yet, I have not missed a credit card payment or a car loan payment.

This was a Sunday evening, of course I could not reach my bank, so I worried about this all night, knowing I had money in my account. I did not know if my account had been hacked or what the issue was. I called Telecheck first thing Monday morning. After several minutes of punching in numbers I finally reached a human. The woman barely spoke English, was extremely rude to put it politely and told me absolutely nothing other than Telecheck has the right to refuse anyone. She placed me on hold 5 times without even telling me she was going to (I would suddenly hear music and find that she was gone again). She refused to let me speak to a supervisor, called my bank without my permission, and asked me for my pin number so she could verify my account.

At this point I demanded to speak to a supervisor and was hung up on. I tried calling again and could not get through the computer to speak to a person. I checked with the BBB and found Telecheck has over 300 complaints. Other sites state that they have settled fraudulent lawsuits. I say SHAME ON WALMART for using this company. By writing a check I am entrusting the store with my financial information and I expect Walmart to use a company that is reputable. After reading through the Telecheck complaints from others it seems many people have had a long running issue with Telecheck that starts with Walmart. I went into Best Buy in Menifee, CA on 12/6/14 to purchase a Christmas gift for my son who is currently living in Australia. I was excited to have found some items for him in time to mail and arrive by Christmas. My purchase came to $338 and some change. I pulled out my debit card to pay for the purchase but at the last second, I changed my mind because of all the credit card breaches occurring. I had just watched a program on TV about this several nights prior. I decided to write a check instead, which I do less frequently anymore. What a surprise to be told that my check was declined. The only time I ever paid overdraft charges was about 30 years ago when I was 20 years old and was six cents under in my checking account. I won't disclose the amount of funds in my account when Best Buy denied me, but I can say that my funds and their availability were not in question.

I was a bit embarrassed because I am very responsible with my finances and never in my wildest dreams did I ever think my check would be denied. Of course when the clerk tells you it is denied, every other clerk and customer turns around to see who is passing the "bad check." I assured them the check was indeed good and told them I would pull up my banking account on my phone right then to prove it. When one of the clerks told me they couldn't run the check again because it had been voided, I asked to write another check but was denied. My husband said "just pay with your card" which I did do just to prove I had the funds, although not being sure why the check was being denied, I wasn't certain what to expect when they ran my card. The purchase was successful on my card which is ridiculous because both the check and the card belong to the same checking account.

I am fuming and I, like many other people logging complaints here, called the Telecheck number on the back of the check and was asked over and over to enter the same checking information into the automated system. Finally, I pressed "0" for operator about 30 times out of frustration and when nothing happened, I hung up.

I would like to join in on a class action lawsuit. Additionally, I have decided to return my items to Best Buy and will purchase the items elsewhere. I will not support any retailer who chooses to use a company like Telecheck. I have had my checking account with my bank for about 12 years and have an excellent record with them along with a savings account. I will not be told that I am not credit-worthy. I also intend to write Best Buy and let them know of my decision. If enough people let the retailers know they won't shop at their establishments if they use such an unscrupulous company like Telecheck and let them dictate who can make purchases, they may decide that any benefit Telecheck provides is negated by the amount of customers and purchases they are losing.

The representative read paragraphs of unrelated information that could be the reason I was declined. I gave all my information that they requested, even my previous checking account information. I spent over an hour on the phone trying to resolve this issue. I was told they have the proper information now and I should be able to write checks in the future. I tried to write a check today, in which I was told it is declined @ Family Dollar.

This starts a whole new process in yet another decline. I know the funds were in the bank account. I called telecheck again and spoke to "Red" and she started with reading paragraphs. I asked to speak to a supervisor. I got a supervisor, "Amber" and she did the same thing as the last representative, reading paragraphs of possible reasons. First off, let me say my Wife and I have been doing business with Best Buy since they came to Spartanburg, SC - approximately 35 years ago. We have sometimes paid more than we could buy the same thing for at a competitor because they were a small store when they first opened and their employees came to know us - at least by our faces!

Yes, we are older - 67 and 65. We don't like Debit cards because we're concerned we'll forget to write an expenditure into our ledger and possibly cause an overdraft - which we'll admit is unlikely because we keep a fairly large balance, have overdrafts on all our checking accounts and also have them connected to our Savings Accounts. And yes, we also refuse to Bank on Line! Yes, I'm also OCD! LOL!

Thursday - Before Black Friday - we went to our Current Best Buy and bought a new LG Refrigerator and wrote a check for $1888.00. No problem. We started to leave the store and noticed a Kindle Fire HD that our Grown Son had - at our request - listed on his "Amazon Wish List". (We have all our Family keep an Amazon Wish List). The Kindle was only $10.00 more than Amazon and I decided to go ahead and get it. I wrote a check for $127.XX. The Clerk ran the check and then advised me it was "Declined". It had a lot of writing on the back and actually said check was NOT being declined due to insufficient funds. The Clerk said she had never seen anything like that. She went to a Manager and he said he didn't know what was going on either. I put my phone on "Speakerphone" and let him, the clerk and everyone standing near us hear the conversation when I dialed the 800 number included in the writing on the back of the check.

Now understand, I had never heard of "Telecheck". When I was answered - obviously by someone out of the U.S. - I explained why I was calling. The Rep advised ALL OF US - ENTIRE STORE - that we had written an inordinately HIGH number of checks recently. I said "Yes, We are retired; going out of town; and pre-paid a number of Bills that would come due before we returned. I told her she was welcome to check our balance. (At this point, I thought I was talking with someone in the "Fraud Department" of our Bank. We had this happen about 17 1/2 years ago after I retired and my Wife and I were traveling across the US and Canada on an extended trip for our 30th anniversary. Even our AT&T Calling Card was temporarily suspended because of possible fraud even though that was where I had just retired!!) Anyhow, this was when I found out I was talking with someone with "Telecheck"!

I told her I was still in Best Buy and would be glad to show THEM any info they wanted including both my and my Wifes DL's, CWP's, Picture ID's; whatever. She said would make no difference. We had spent too much money in too short of time!!?? She said we would need to wait about 7 days until they "Reset" their System! I said, "Have you lost your Mind? It's Christmas! We're shopping and are going to be spending more money in the next month than probably any other 3 month period!!!”

We went to our Bank the next day and asked them why they had our funds frozen? The Customer Svc Mgr. said she wasn't familiar with this system and suggested we use our Debit Card. We reminded her we didn't have or want a Debit Card! She suggested we withdraw some cash. I assured her I had more cash on me than she did! (Sorry for sounding arrogant but I'm still P.O.'ed!!) We just now - on this forum - learned that it is the MERCHANTS that are subscribing to this service!

We read the WISE AXX comment from the obviously young "Whipper Snapper" saying checks are going away. He may be correct. Wonder if he has older parents or grandparents who don't trust the Internet and have reason to not, i.e., I've been "Hacked" twice in the last 5 years - but they didn't get financial data because "IT'S NOT ONLINE"!! JERK FACE!! He may be right. Certain Establishments may quit taking my checks. That's OK. I'm well known enough that SOMEONE ELSE WILL!!

Oh, yeah, for those establishments that prefer CC's - they lose 1 - 5 % in Merchant Fees depending upon what processor they use. (Any Merchant who accepts "American Express" is an Idiot! Their average Fee to the merchants is 5%!!) I just closed a small business (Second Retirement!) and never accepted American Express. Those ** be Crazy!!

Well, my wife said it's time to terminate the thesis and come to bed. After 47 1/2 years, I showed her and got in the last word!! (Yes, Dear)! I was going to cancel the LG Delivery but just found out H. H. Gregg uses Telecheck also! And our main Refrigerator just went out. Still may cancel AFTER THEY GET HERE! If they don't want MY CHECKS after 35 years, I don't want them to have MY CASH!

Does anyone know a list of Retailers who don't use Telecheck OR can remove their longtime customers from this 3rd World Country of Idiot Reps? Although I realize the Company is probably owned by a Corp in America just using 3rd world support for 5 cents an hour!

Asked how I could do that if they kept declining my checks. Told not to write checks for 7 days!!!?? It's the Holidays. Then told if it happens to call Telecheck from the store, that will go down well with a line of people behind me on the Holidays!

Today, November 29 2014, I went to my local Shopko to partake in the extended after Thanksgiving sale. I spent over two hours in this store... some nice Christmas gift purchases and a winter jacket for myself. At the check-out, I wrote a check for over $200 and my check was declined. I have written checks other times at this store and not a problem. I should say that this is the second time I have had a check declined. The first time it happened was over a year ago and my check was under $50. At that time, I asked the check-out gal, "Why?" She told me it was probably because I didn't have "a history" with this store. At that time and this time, I have the proper funds in my checking account, so a 'lack of funds' was not the problem.

Back to today. I was bummed and somewhat irritated. I'm sure I glared back at the gal when I told her to "just forget the whole thing." What a bunch of malarkey. I asked the gal, "Maybe the check was read wrong?" But she told me the machine would not even let it run through a second time. "Sorry!" She handed back my check and that was that. I was sorry, but I was not embarrassed for the 'shame' of having been rejected. After reading everyone's reviews on here, there's no point in trying to call anyone because I'll just get the run-around. I am complaining just to make myself feel better, however.

Thanksgiving evening and Black Friday my wife and family were out of town approximately 350 miles away from home. She did not take very much cash only her debit card and check book. That night our checks was refused at our local Walmart store which there are usually checks written 3-5 times a week. The next day in Tennessee and Virginia, we had numerous checks denied at various vendors throughout the states. When this first happened at Victoria's Secret's my wife called me and told me what had happened and how embarrassing it was standing in line for 35 minutes and the line behind her held up because of this situation. I called TeleCheck and was told by an automated service to enter my checking account number routing number and check number I had to do this at least five times to get this to go through. I was then switched over to an customer service operator who was not interested in helping nor wanted to help. I was talk to very rude and I asked to speak to their supervisor. This man got on the phone with an attitude and was very rude also and that made me angry and I lost my cool as well. I feel that this man put a check on my account at that time that when any other checks went through, they would be denied.

I cannot prove this but later found a number on the Internet that I could call and not be put through an automated system a man answered the phone by the name of Sal, and was very helpful he actually called my bank and verified that there was money in her checking account and it was not a fraudulent account. I thought that this matter has been taken care of I asked the first supervisor why was this happening. All he would tell me is that there was an increase in our check writing out of town and that is why the checks were being denied. This second supervisor told me that we had written approximately $80,000 worth of checks through various vendors and none returned by the bank. I thought this was finally taken care of until about 8:30 PM Friday, November 28, 2014.

I received another phone call from my daughter telling me that they had denied another check at another vendor and just embarrassed my wife so bad that she had to leave the store and go to her vehicle. I then called TeleCheck again and tried to reach the second supervisor that I had spoken with earlier however this number he gave me went to an answering service that he was out. I then called the telephone number to TeleCheck and after entering the account number routing number and check number and the amount of the check which took about another 10 minutes. I finally was connected with another customer service operator who was very unwilling to help and did not try to find out why this was happening again. She actually was trying to end the call and I said, "wait just one minute I want to speak to your supervisor." When the lady got on the phone about 10 minutes later she said that she could not see where the last transaction had been denied.

I then called the store Bed Bath and beyond in Bristol TN, and asked to speak to their manager. The lady told me that she remembered my wife being there and how embarrassed she was. I asked her if she knew why this was happening and if it was happening all day long to other people she said no. Then asked the lady from TeleCheck on my other phone if she was sure about the transaction being denied. She asked for my drivers license number and my wife's license number and she was still showing no transaction denied. I asked her if she thought that I was making this up she said, "no I heard the other lady at the store telling you." And then she asked me to have my wife try again at another store later and if this problem happens again to call from that store immediately and try to find out what the problem is. One other piece of information that I would like to pass along is that while I was speaking with the first supervisor his name was Andy his id# **, he told me that the reason he thought this was happening was because there was more than one check written at Walmart within a very few minutes of each other.

I know I was very upset and probably said a lot of things I shouldn't but I was very upset with the way I was being treated and the embarrassment that my wife was going through while shopping with my family. There was no need for this supervisor to act the way he did and still not help the situation. I asked him again why is this happening it has never happened before and I find it hard to Believe that it was happening just because there was checks being written. I asked my wife later how many check she had tried to write and she said three or four all in a row. All these checks were in order one right after another in sequence. Every check that she tried to write was denied.

I understand that there is an increase in fraud and bad checks in today's world but there is no excuse in this sloppy way of handling this situation by a company like TeleCheck. The embarrassment that my wife went through today and we may have to go through the rest of the weekend is not right and something has to be done I would appreciate someone contacting me my telephone number is **. My home telephone number is **. Monday morning I am going to contact the Better Business Bureau along with my personal attorney to see if there is anything that can be done to rectify this matter.

Called the 800 number and somehow, after entering all of my checking information, wound up on the phone with TRS recovery services. I was never told I would be transferred to anyone. TRS recovery, who wanted even more of my personal information, says that I owe Compass Bank over $1,000.00 in overdraft fees. Compass Bank just settled with me and however many other previous clients for more than $11M to do away with those fees because we were all overcharged to begin with, oh yeah, and I haven't banked with Compass in more than 5 years. I attempted to explain this to the very foreign lady on the phone who really couldn't provide me with any answers at all. It was a pointless call and Telecheck transferred me to another company without informing me that they would do so.

I had to change banks, and now I am having trouble cashing a check in certain stores. What the heck is with this ridiculous system with Telecheck when you change your bank? Like it's your fault that a bank closed their doors and you had to change banks. We don't have direct deposit with our company, so we have to deposit the check at the bank. If we had direct deposit at work, we wouldn't have had to change to another bank. We are being punished for changing our bank. So the stores, like Walmart and some other stores, will not let me write a check with their store. I wrote checks, with my old bank, for years and never had this Telecheck issue.

On October 27th, 2014, my family and I went to our local Wal-Mart to do our grocery shopping. I had lost my debit card but still had my checkbook so decided to pay with a check $195.00. When the woman took my check, she ran it in her system and said it was declined. Mind you, I have a 4 and 5 year old with me who are now running around like animals. The cashier (very friendly and courteous) gave me a receipt with a Decline Code: 02 on it and suggested I call the 1-800 number to see what the problem was. After 30 minutes of entering routing, checking and check numbers over and over I was finally connected to a woman who said my check was declined because I have no history with them. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she also said that I had no history with Telecheck so it raised a red flag when trying to pay with a check. She went on to tell me further that in order to "establish a history" I would have to start with writing small amounts and the flag wouldn't lift for at least 7 days so I would have to wait.

I refused to accept her explanation and demanded that she lift the flag. She went on to call my bank and try to ask if there was money in my account WITHOUT MY PERMISSION!! There was money in my account but luckily the woman from my bank knew not to share any information with this crazy person. Shame on you Wal-Mart for having such a messed up system and shame on you Telecheck for being such an awful system! As I reached the register I wrote a check and paid for his, and then proceeded to ring mine up and wrote another check for mine and it was declined!!!! I called telecheck up with my so called code number and was told I had not wrote very many checks so I had to build up some sort of check experience with them. Then he noticed I had wrote a check just previous to the one that was declined. Then was told that it was out of character to write two checks in a row like that, so that was why I was declined.

I DID not realize I had a limit to how many checks I could write per day. I guess my debit card would have been better so that I could worry about hackers getting into my checking account, which is why I went back to writing checks in the first place, because I normally would have used my debit card. But because I have reverted back to checks, I seem to have to build up to telecheck’s standards before being able to write how ever many checks I choose too... All this without even having a bad check out there. I will find out who uses telecheck and will not use these companies!!! And by the way I have purchased a much larger amount at walmart in the past, the only difference it was with one check!!!!

I, too, was discriminated against today while writing a check to Nordstrom in Anchorage, Alaska. I have lived and shopped in Alaska 40+ years and have no returned checks or bad credit. I have been with my current bank for 2 years. I have written many checks to Nordstrom and other merchants around town for dollar amounts of $300-$500.00 on a regular basis and routinely spend about $500.00 a month at 'Nordies". Today the clerk rang up my purchase for $409.00 and TeleCheck would not approve the check. I was not embarrassed, having nothing to be embarrassed about, however this probably does lead others to wonder if I bounce checks.

I called TeleCheck immediately and had a nasty phone conversation with a woman in Manila - who put through to her supervisor - another woman in Manila - who informed me she wouldn't give me any information until I told her all my information - the name/address info on the check and the routing and account numbers!! Really - that's all the Manila Philippines woman needs to create a check in my name and create fraud - while staying well out of reach of American law enforcement (I work for the federal prosecutors - fraud happens every day to everyone!).

The computerized response system did tell me my check was denied because - ha ha - I was a statistical risk!! Well - I marched my risky butt back into the store and talked to customer service and PLAYED the computerized response as to why they denied it. I plan on following up with Nordstrom tomorrow and calling the Consumer Protection Bureau and filing a Consumer Complaint against TeleCheck with our State Better Business Bureau and the Federal Consumer Protection Bureau. If you have been defamed - please do the same. I also will write checks every time I go to Nordstrom - if they won't take my check - I'll shop elsewhere!

Good Morning, From Northeast Tennessee, where the people mean more than the dollar amount you can charge them at the bank. I am a married, stay at home mother of three. My husband and I have learned the hard way at a young age how hard it is to survive in this once blessed country of the USA. High school sweethearts, we married young and dreamed of starting our family. Creditors literally circled us like vultures over fresh meat. One credit card led to ten, we spent our first year of marriage struggling to keep up with our credit card debt, we consolidated and soon realized, credit cards can kill your hopes of good credit. Life happens. We have lived and learned. We have also managed to keep our heads above water through a corporate lay off for myself, student loans for a bachelors in business degree for my husband and Dr bills out the ying yang from the births of our three children.

Recently however, a hiccup in my husband's pay schedule caused our bank account to go to shambles. Pending checks processed with no deposits and one of those checks was returned, check # **. This check was drafted from our account within 4 days of the return and within eleven days the fee of $30 was taken from the bank as well. Since this issue, myself and my husband, have written several checks locally through companies associated with Telecheck--no problem. However, recently many have been denied-up to seven, and for multiple different reasons via your automated system and multiple representatives. Today, I got yet another check declined. I dot know your particular personal family position, but I wonder - do you have children? Children of age to understand when Mommy's check doesn't work at the check out and we have to put everything back and come back later. I wonder if you or anyone you know have been so humbled by that experience in front of a group of peers, to have to return your items and leave empty handed.

Though my first occasion with your company at Walmart...a local man generously paid for my items from behind me, and asked for nothing in return but to thank God-- the other six transactions have not been so kind. I am baffled, when researching your company as to how you have remained in business. Then, I realize big company corporations --money scheming, government cronies run this country today. I have seen however multiple articles on the FTC investigating your company and in fact, causing big payouts to be made. Applause from Tennessee. It is devastating as a hard working, respectable and tried and true American small town family is embarrassed at the local Family Dollar check out line, as a check is declined. So today, I decided I had enough. I have filed a Better Business Bureau complaint, I am citing the reasons listed above. Only to add this, I called your company and spoke with 'Eddie' he gave me employee # **. I gave Eddie quite the talking to, because as he explained your company had no valid reason for declining my check written today. Not one reason. He encouraged me to have this local company contact your company to which I laughed.

My local family dollar manager is going to call this Telecheck company which is unaccredited to the Better Business Bureau--which by the way, speaks VOLUMES--and tell Telecheck he knows me--it's okay to process my checks. I encourage you to work with your company policies, government, FTC guidelines and LAWS. What you are doing is heinous. I hope this letter hits you right between the eyes, and strikes a cord in corporate hearts. It is companies like you, running our country into the ground.

Yesterday, 8/20/14, I was shopping with my son for all his first year college supplies at Bed Bath & Beyond in Brookfield, WI. I offered payment with a check tied to a Bank of NY Mellon investment account. The account held funds that we had saved over the past 18 years specifically for the purpose of college expenses. We ordered new checks as a way to draw from the account. A check in the morning to Office Max received Telecheck authorization, however, the check to Bed Bath & Beyond was declined. I had two full carts of merchandise with a very long line of customers. They actually had to open addition check out lines because of the back up and the time it was taking.

The manager provided Telecheck's number to call to resolve the matter. I was on the call for one hour 15 minutes, at least 1 hour on hold. Telecheck verified that sufficient funds were available in my account, but declined because the check did not meet their "guidelines." The amount was over $1,000 and the account did not have a checking history. There were no problems with suspected fraud, prior bad check, credit matters - nothing. It was just because it was a new account. The agent could not provide any information to me about how to correct the situation for future transactions, and lead me to believe that checks for tuition, books, etc. would not be honored. The agents were less than polite, initially refused to put me through to a manager, and unable to resolve the matter.

I have no other way to draw funds from this account for these purchases. This is wrong, and crazy, that a third party intermediary can provide misleading information to the retailer precluding the use of legitimate checks.

I am a lawyer, and my intuition tells me that this outcome must be in violation of either Fair Credit Reporting, an act of defamation, or some other claim, so I will begin researching. I have never posted a complaint online about any consumer matters, but I will now begin researching all of the avenues to get the word out. Maybe the message needs to be really hit hard with the retailers who use Telecheck, if enough of the unhappy customers avoided those retailers who have contracts with Telecheck, they may reconsider their selection of this vendor.

My 18 year old son and 10 year old daughter were with me, and this was a humiliating experience. Just not right!

I spoke with my bank, all is in great standing. It is the Telecheck services that is the problem. After I spoke with Telecheck regarding the first debacle at Harbor Freight, they told me this wouldn't happen again. Yet, It Did. Where is the attorney that wants to take on this Telecheck in a Class Action Lawsuit? I am first in line. If feel it is a scam to get your private information and then they deny the check.

I wrote a check to Fred Meyers gas; however, my husband had also done the same. There wasn't enough funds to cover my check so it bounced. The very next day I deposited funds into our checking account in which Fred Meyers then re deposited my check. It WAS PAID in full, I paid the $25 fee to my bank and that was that. This was 6 years ago!!! I still can not write checks now to anywhere that has Telecheck!!!

I wrote a check at Best Buy today. Despite having good credit, never having written a bad check, and plenty of money in my account that could have easily been checked, my check was denied. My son did not get the laptop he needs for college today. His girlfriend, whom I had just met today, witnessed the incident. I was made to feel like a CRIMINAL by the store manager at the Best Buy in Columbia, SC. I was told by Best Buy that "You can try again in 7 days" and that they were not required to give me any reason for the check decline. Will never shop any business that uses Telecheck. And will NEVER shop Best Buy again.

Just went to Walgreens to buy makeup for our dance company. I just opened a new account to keep our dance company separate from the main studio a few months ago. Myself and the studio have excellent credit and payment history and we were denied by Telecheck because it was a new business. Beware new businesses out there. It won't matter that that purchase you are making was for 2% of what you had in the bank; if you are new, you will be denied. Called Telecheck and they wanted all my personal information so they could build my account with them. I told them no way and hung up. Companies who use them are going to lose business because of them! Extremely angry right now!

On July 17, 2014 I stopped at my local Rite Aid Pharmacy in Morgantown, WV, where I'd been doing business for years, to pick up my prescription. I wrote a check for $44.00 and was shocked when the pharmacist told me it was denied! I'd never heard of Telecheck, and when I called the number on the "denied slip", the man asked me for my personal financial bank information and driver's license number. I said, "No way!" I had much more than $44 in the bank to cover the check (at least $4,000) and there was no excuse for Rite Aid not taking it.

Since then I have researched complaints about Telecheck and found many many other people have been publicly embarrassed and denied too for no good reason. This is a form of discrimination. They also weren't given a good reason. I have been doing business with Rite Aid for years!! I've never had a check bounce; there was no excuse for my check being denied. My credit is excellent (credit score of 901), and I always pay my bills and never write check overdrafts. It is intolerable that some nitwit company would throw some "parameters" together and decide who can write checks and who can't.

I am uncomfortable now about writing checks at all. It was humiliating and what infuriates me more, is that they made a false judgment about my ability to pay for my purchases. Who in the hell do they think they are? They know nothing about me OR my financial practices. I was appalled to read so many others have experienced the same thing. This incompetent company needs to be stopped, sued, whatever it takes to get them the hell out of our lives. Needless to say, after calling Telecheck from my car, I flew back into Rite Aid and promptly told them to cancel my prescription, that I was taking my business elsewhere, which I have done. Apparently, many merchants are now using this incompetent company! As long as I can, I will avoid those merchants.

This whole situation is outrageous. But the ability to purchase products/services has been significantly changed, and for what? I guess I will have to resort to using cash/credit card. If a merchant decides to no longer take checks, that's one thing. But if I'm making a purchase from a business that accepts checks and mine are not accepted, I am being discriminated against without a good reason. I read where Telecheck was sued in a class action suit recently, but it wasn't enough. They are bogus, incompetent, misrepresent what they do and base their decisions on God only knows what!! I hope people also avoid the merchants who use Telecheck. Maybe they'll come up with an appropriate way to screen their customers for bad check writing. Because this company is anything but appropriate!!

Tele Check denied my check based on information guidelines that they would not disclose. This is the second time in one month this has happened. The first time I was told that he entered my information and it would be okay to use now. But when I wrote a check today, it would not clear. This time she wanted more information and demanded that SHE call my bank and ask questions about my account. I told her no, I would not give her the information to protect MYSELF from identity theft, I have used checks at that store before and I would NOT give her the authority to talk to my back. I also told her I AM AN EMPLOYEE OF THIS STORE. I think I may send a letter to the FBI so they can check into Tele Check. They are outsourced so I think for my safety I am done with any store using that service. Something is REAL fishy about Tele Check. They need to use a different service to verify checks.

I was in Redner's Warehouse Market today @ 2:00pm. I shop there ALL the time. I had forgotten my debit card, so I asked the cashier if I could write a check! She said of course! When I handed it to her & she put it in the register, it was DECLINED!! That wasn't bad enough....they did it again, and again it wouldn't take it. So I called my bank, they said they didn't understand my problem as I had over $1,000 in the account!

I called Telecheck back, gave them ALL my information!! Bank routing #, Account #, balance of the check that I was writing my name, address, zip code, phone #, last 4 digits of my social security #, and ANYTHING ELSE THEY ASKED FOR!!! ONLY TO BE TOLD THEY "DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH INFORMATION ON ME TO ALLOW THE STORE TO ACCEPT MY CHECK!! I spoke with 4 different people.......each of them (from the 1st to the last) was "UNABLE TO HELP ME EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD ALL OF MY PERSONAL INFORMATION"!!! Why, Why, Why couldn't YOU call the bank (the number which I had already given them) and with ALL my information clear the check??

I was told by the manager of Redner's that they were UNABLE to cash my check, due to YOU FOLKS not clearing it! I had to tell the last supervisor, that if they didn't clear my check, I was going to RAISE HELL!! 45 minutes later, you folks finally (after checking with my bank, like I had asked) cleared the check!! I will tell everyone I know about your incredibly stupid RULES & REGULATIONS! No one all the way up the chain of command could make a decision, take command, or expedite my problem. I am totally disgusted with your "so called"security to protect the store. When you don't have enough data on the person & won't clear their check.....afterwards, when you have ALL the information, You still won't clear the check! How does that work?? I read all your propaganda on how "helpful & protective" you are.......all I can say is HOGWASH! You showed me NO reason to ever shop anywhere that I see a Telecheck sign, and I'm determined to let everyone I know about your shady so called protection!! I will do my best to make sure people and businesses DO NOT USE YOUR SERVICE!!! I remain, UNHAPPILY.

They transfer me to a barely English speaking person and proceed to tell me that my check has been declined due to I am a new customer and I have to build up my check amount. So I will not be able to purchase my groceries I spent the last 2 hrs getting?? They said you are a new customer and will have to wait. WAIT FOR WHAT!?? I have a fully stocked bank account?? There was no warning, no explanation and the manager said it would not be known until you present the check?? So I spent 2 hrs for nothing!! What is this, can I call BBB ? I am so disgusted!! Next day went back to Walmart because the check they said wouldn't clear cleared and went to pick up a few things - check denied again. Took my debit card and paid for my transaction on the account that was denied. Call Telecheck again and they advised they called the bank and the check that wouldn't clear, still wouldn't clear. I explain to the rep that it had already posted to my account. She called the bank back and was advised that it cleared this morning. They proceeded to asked about the check I presented today that was denied and I use my debit card today. They have no clue as to what they are doing and I will not be doing business with vendors that use them.

I asked to speak with a supervisor who told me the same thing and I asked her to resolve this by contacting my bank for approval so I could get the history of check writing so this won't happen in the future. She said they wouldn't do that so I asked for her supervisor and she told me they're all at lunch and no one was there for me to talk to. REALLY? I have been using my checking account for 13 years with no problem or any wrong with my account. I have 695.31 dollars in the bank. They said they had no info on my account even though they have been taking my checks for 13 years. All I wanted was my lunch at the same spot every day for 11 years. I was embarrassed. Was asked not to come back to my favorite place to eat. Checked my check book balance. Called my bank. Everything matched. Called Telecheck with code3. And they treated me like I was a idiot after talking to a teal person. My check was declined for a error on their part. I asked when they would fix it. Lady said 30 days to 6 months.

Now I can't write a check anywhere until they fix their crap. 13 years of perfect check writing destroyed a dummy in Telecheck that doesn't know what they are doing. How can you have no data on a spotless perfect account of 13 years of use? And with a answer like 30 days to 6 months to fix it. Well, my rent check doesn't have that long to wait for you guys to get your crap in order. And treated like a idiot. Kicked out my favorite place to eat of over a decade. I will never write another check again if these are the smocks in charge of anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is my first experience with this company and it has not been a good one. I am at our summer home and went to the local Walmart. I wrote a check for under $200. It was declined. When I called Telecheck, I was told that I had written too many checks on that account. Imagine my surprise. It was not that I had not proved my identity or that funding was not in the account to cover the check or even I have a great record as a responsible consumer. Then a few days later, I went to Shopko. My purchases where just over $200. I wrote a check on one of our other bank accounts. Guess what? It too was declined. I even showed two current IDs and a slip from the bank to show there was funding in that account. The manager said she could not accept it because Telecheck had declined it.

When I got home and call the number to see what was wrong with that check, I was told if I had called from the store, the check would have been allowed through. Well, who in the heck is going to stand in line and call this company in front of stranger? All in all, despite the fact that I have been a responsible consumer, this company has made the last few days hell. I have been told that chances are they may or may not accept any check from my Texas account. So beware consumers, this might happen to you and you are as helpless as a fly caught in a spider's web.

I have had lots of dealings w/ Telecheck over the years. Every time I get a new checking acct or have a returned check, it takes a whole year to get stores who use Telecheck to take my checks without having every other one declined no matter how much money is in my account. Today they declined it at a Walmart that I write 2 to 3 checks to every day for years because it is a new acct and they won't transfer the information over from the old acct so they know my check writing patterns. They are usually rude and always give the excuse that the check fell outside their guidelines but they won't tell you what those guidelines are. They declined my check at another Walmart yesterday and when I called them, they cleared it and it worked fine. Today, they said they could not do it today.

I have spent many hours on the phone trying to get this straight but it is useless. On my last checking acct they were taking my checks fine at all Walmarts and Dollar Stores, O'Riley's, etc but there was an Allsup's Convenience store in Whitesboro, TX that they declined 20 checks in a row over a 6-month period with all kinds of reasons. It was more money than I usually write. It was less money than I usually write but mostly it just fell outside their guidelines that they won't tell you what they are. I wish there was some way to sue them because it is so embarrassing to always have your check declined and never be able to depend on it no matter how much you have in your acct. Does anyone else have this problem?

Today I tried to purchase prescriptions at CVS for the amount of 39.46. When the check was turned down because of check information provided by TeleCheck, I paid by credit card and returned home. I immediately called the number given to me by the drug store. They asked for all kinds of personal information, first by automated process and then by interview, before explaining the problem. It seems that in 2009 two unacceptable checks were paid to Walmart using my driver's license # but not my bank. They have asked for a great deal of paperwork which I am to fax to them. They also gave me a case # and FAX # which I had to write down along with a list of copied items to include since none of this information would be listed on the affidavit they would be sending me. All of this sounds very fishy to me, but they have warned me that if I don't follow through I may have a great deal of trouble writing checks to many companies in the future. From the complaints that I have been reading, many businesses are indeed using their services. I am feeling very hesitant to share further information with them.

I understand businesses need to be vigilant about taking checks in payment for goods, but they should also be accountable to their customers who are wronged by the TeleCheck system. The manager of SPECS LIQUORS in Galleria (Lakeway) gave me a phone number (1-800-366-5010) to call to "find out why my check was rejected." Turned out after entering endless keyed-in information, that number was for merchants only. They told me to call 1-800-355-2425 which supposedly operated 24/7. That turned out to be a debt-collection site that recommends that you go to their website for more information about "how to pay your debt."

There is no consumer number for TeleCheck and as Consumer Affairs points out, this company does not respond to complaints. Merchants need to put pressure on TeleCheck to respond to rejections that are not warranted - and the only way we as consumers can make that happen is to ask the merchant whether they want our business. This was a local check - both my bank and my house are within 3 miles of this store - and it is not a new account. I'm not as angry about the check being rejected as I am the store manager's incorrect information that both scared me and wasted a lot of my time. But, I would be really angry had someone been with me as this would reflect on me. I did insist on their calling my bank who told them the check was good - but they still wouldn't take it. In retrospect, I should have just declined to make the purchase and gone elsewhere. Now that I've entered all my information, these jerks are probably going to reject all my checks. That would be insult upon injury. I intend to write Specs as well. Thanks.
