I wrote a check to Walgreens on a Guardian checking account for my elderly mom (92) for medical supplies. Telecheck denied this transaction because there was not enough history of written checks to meet their criteria. Since there was a line of people behind me, I had to use a personal credit card instead of her checking account. I contacted her back and there is more than enough money to handle the transaction. When I called Telecheck, I was prompted by a heavily accented non-American that I could TRY to write smaller checks and SEE if they go through. I asked if this is the only solution, I was told yes. I asked to speak to a manager and was told none was available. I wrote a complaint to the Better Business Bureau and will also make a complaint to Texas Attorney General.

Today I went to Family Dollar Store to buy a few things I needed. I normally use my debit card for such things but I had asked the Bank to replace my debit card and the new one had not arrived, so I wrote a check in the amount of $40.79. The clerk processed the check and told me there was a "problem". I asked her to run it again and there was a problem again. I went out to my car and called the bank to see what problem there was and they said I had sufficient funds to cover the check. Earlier this week I spent cash at Family Dollar but it was deducted from my bank account. There was also another deduction there that I did not spend at all. That's why I had requested a new debit card. The clerk asked me had I called Telecheck and I said no as I had never even heard of Telecheck. She showed me an 800 number and said I needed to contact them.

A foreigner answered and was of no help at all. She said they had insufficient history in their database to approve the check. I've been using the same account at that store for over a year several times a week and have never had any problem whatsoever. Report these people to the Federal Trade Commission and I'm all for filing a class action lawsuit against them. By reading all the complaints on this site, someone said they had been sued in 2014 for the very same thing and nothing has changed. I also suggest everyone who has had this happen to them refuse to do business with any company that uses Telecheck and let them know why they are taking their business elsewhere.

My 92 year old mother went to the store to purchase some items. She wrote a check to Rite-Aid for $58.76 and it was denied by TeleCheck despite having a balance in the account exceeding $28,000.00 at the time. She writes checks to the church, gardener, health care provider, utilities, etc. but seldom writes check to retail stores as a debit card is used. Telecheck says it is because she has no history with them. So she had to borrow money from the person driving her in order to complete the purchase. This should be considered a crime no different than theft. Telecheck has stolen her pride, her dignity and her ability to purchase items because of some computer algorithm. She has been shopping at that store for decades.

I continue to have my son's reloadable card rejected at Walmart by Telecheck. It seems I don't write enough checks to suit Telecheck. When you buy a card like this, you expect it to work. I would not recommend the Walmart rechargeable gift card to others. I'm going to shop for another card since this one is not reliable.

Last week I tried to load my Walmart gift card online. You have to do so through your checking account. I do this periodically so that my husband has a way to fill his vehicle with gas when I have the debit card. Last week on October 28th I got an error from Telecheck telling me that it could not process my request. When I called them they said that I did not use my checking account enough to fill their requirements. They told me to wait 7 days and then try it. In the meantime I removed my checking account from the website so that I could put in a new bank routing number since my original bank was taken over by another bank.

Now I can't put the account back in. I got another error about them not allowing me to do this at this time. I called them again and the same story. Wait 7 days and try again. Now this block was put on my account for no good reason. I have never bounced a check and there is plenty of money to cover the amount that I wished to put on the card. I don't see why how often I use my account is any of their business. This is America and I should be able to spend my money whenever and wherever I choose to spend it without someone telling me what venue I should use.

I am disabled and my direct deposit was deposited at 8:00 am. There was over 1000 in my account. I called Telecheck and they said there was nothing they could do. I need for someone to do something about this. I've never been more upset.

The wife has been with me in Wisconsin since mid June. We just purchased a home and she opened an account with a well known bank. During the last week of October 2015, she made purchases at Festival Foods, paying by check without issue. Then on 1 Nov, she tried to pay for purchases at the same Festival Foods with her check -- denied 4 times. No real reason given -- they gave her a small note to contact TeleCheck and a copy of the register slips for denied transaction. She paid by credit card and left.

She was a bit upset when she arrived home and when I was told why, I got livid. I've had a denied experience with TeleCheck before in Michigan at a Meijer. I took the check, receipts, and slip for TeleCheck and called. I was extremely upset by the time I got someone on the phone after going through several attempts to get the information in their interactive response system. The first individual was a complete idiot and after getting louder with this individual, they dropped the call. I called in again and, after loud discussion, and getting my wife to authorize the call with them, they wanted additional privacy information. I requested a supervisor.

After a few minutes, someone came online with me on the call. I demanded to know why my wife's check was denied. After several back and forth comments, they finally surrendered that it was refused because they didn't have enough information in their database and denied the transaction. TeleCheck does not check for funds sufficiency. They simply deny your check based off a pattern of check writing. This does not make sense... My wife had already made previous purchases by check with the same store. They wanted additional information about wife's previous accounts, etc. After refusing to provide the information and getting their poor apologies, I inquired how they could make a decision on a new account based solely off check writing pattern, especially in present day. After getting loud to drown this individual's poor excuses out, the call was dropped.

I promptly called the store manager at Festival Foods and relayed they have a PR problem that they need to address before they wind up in the news along with TeleCheck. The manager will address the issue with the service and offered to talk with my wife himself or with one of the two other managers at her next visit. Any company wanting to do business with TeleCheck must be willing to risk loss of business and reputation due to TeleCheck's poor decision processes. Anyone providing TeleCheck their social security number and other privacy information needs to understand they do so at the risk of possible identity theft.

Wrote a check for $215 at Walmart and it was declined. Gave me a slip of paper with Telecheck info on it. Called 888-223-4085 and got Joanie. I asked what REASON: 02 was. She couldn't tell me. She did ask for the bank account number and my address and a bunch of personal information that she could add to their database. Finally, she said the bank account was new or doesn't get used enough. The account is from 1959 and gets used in spurts because it is a business account. I am rehabbing a house and needed supplies. I have written over $8k to Lowe's on the same account in the last 3 weeks and haven't had any problems. I now know to just avoid buying at Walmart.

My wife wrote a check at a grocery store (Strack and Van Til in Chesterton, Indiana) last night for $86.47. She had over $500 in her checking account. The grocery store used TeleCheck for its transactions. TeleCheck declined her check. This is at a store where my wife works, and many of the customers in line were familiar with who she is. The check was declined four times. Upon calling TeleCheck, my wife had to enter her information several times. When she finally was put in touch with a person, he spoke very fast, had a very strong, non-United States accent, and she couldn't understand much of what he said to her. She found out that TeleCheck was the entity that declined her check, and it was due to 'activity that was out of the ordinary' or 'suspect activity'. My wife regularly shops at this grocery store (and works there), so there is no way possible for this to be suspect activity or out of the ordinary.

This is the second time this has happened in the past year. There was another time when she was declined because TeleCheck claimed they did not have 'enough information on file' about my wife's checking account and practices. In addition to this, the Better Business Bureau would not allow us to file a complaint because it did not meet their criteria. I am nearly to the point of launching a public campaign. TeleCheck is supposed to process checks for accounts that have sufficient funds, NOT spy on overall consumer habits. We did NOT hire TeleCheck as a 'fraud protection' company to protect our accounts, so my wife's spending patterns are NONE of their business!

I ordered an item on Amazon.com, using my bank account for funding. I have previously used my bank account for funding items purchased on Amazon. I was contacted weeks later saying that my check did not go through. By that time the item I had chosen not to keep had been returned to Amazon.com. At the time of the transaction, I had much, more than adequate funds available.

Yet I was charged $25 and money for the item that had already been returned. It took many calls to Amazon and several people to finally get through to someone that submitted the right form to the right department. But still the $25 charge remains from Telecheck Services. My bank has provided a letter stating that there was no attempt to complete a transaction at that time and verifying that there were adequate funds in the account. Still I have to jump through hoops to get this situation resolved. Unless this situation gets properly resolved with Amazon's help, I am no longer a customer of Amazon.

2 days ago I attempted to write a check at my local Wal Mart. It was for an electronic item over $400.00 and the check was declined. My wife had our debit card, and she was at work, so all I could do was walk away without my item, looking embarrassed. I was given a receipt to call TeleCheck, so I did and was told that back in 2008 I had a "bad check" for $73.00 and was then connected with an Agent from TRS, who then confirmed that a "bad check" from approximately 7 years ago, was still showing up in their system.

On September 19th, I ordered a replacement charger for my husband's laptop. It cost the wee price of $19.90. I won't go into detail about how this charger sucks because it stopped functioning (that's for another time), but not only this, now I have to deal with these shadowy people who I've NEVER heard of. I decided to put my bank information on Amazon because my husband and I use our cards a certain way. One card is for bills and the other is for spending money. Well, this particular day I had the bill card. Not wanting to start mixing up my spending, I saw that Amazon allowed you to use your account/routing number. I was ecstatic and put it in so I could use the correct account.

I should have never done that. The account never even showed a pending transaction for days. I wondered where the transaction was, but I never saw it. I even received my product before it appeared on my account. I assumed everything was fine now that the transaction had appeared.

On Oct. 6th, I received a strange email from Amazon stating that TRS Recovery Services has received my payment, and thus a hold on my account was removed. Strange. My account on Amazon was never on hold. I was able to use it as I always had. I disregarded it considering whatever had happened over and done with. Only to find that today (Oct. 9th), two more strange things occurred. Another one of those emails was sent to me, same as before, and also my bank account had been charged $25 even dollars. I considered the fact that one of my transactions had more tax on it than estimated, but that still seemed odd.

I had placed one more order during this time frame, a total of $26.21. I promptly contacted Amazon's Customer Service. No one knew where that fee had come from until I had to have a billing specialist email me. He explained that Telecheck, or TRS, were the payment processors used for Amazon and said that check writing privileges would be restored. I wondered to myself, what check? I didn't write a check! I thought the funds were going to be directly debited from the account. I guess that's my fault for not understanding that. This was my first time using that service. Even if that was the case though, adequate funds were in the account at all times to cover this. I was directed to Telecheck for further help.

The woman was rude, tried to talk over me, just in general unhelpful. I had to get loud with her just to get her to stop trying to shovel down my throat information that didn't help. When I asked her where the information on Amazon was about them being the check processors, and who the 25 dollar fee was paid to, she said that I should have received an email about the collection attempt. The email she explained was not the same one I got from Amazon that I spoke on above. It had more detailed information that should have been included, and I never received it. She also said they received the fee. I was upset needless to say.

During this transaction, I assumed this was between Amazon and myself, not a third party. They asked me for all kinds of private information, which worries me. I spoke with a supervisor who didn't really speak English well, and very unenthusiastically offered her apologies for the inconvenience. I'm sure she was reading a script. Either way, she told me 30 days to resolve the dispute for them to decide whether or not I would get my money back. I had to get irate again and explain that I would not wait 30 days for them to refund money that rightfully belongs to me. She then told me she'd made a mistake, and that it would only be 10 days. Odd.

After going round in circles with this woman, I received a complaint number and was told they would be investigating. I don't know what because there isn't anything to investigate. They stole my money. I don't know who they are. I did business with AMAZON, not them. They have no right to my funds, and Amazon doesn't have anything visible I can see that talks about them at all. Maybe it's written obscurely in a terms and conditions area. I think that's underhanded and shady. I believe something should be visible when you are putting in your banking information that states,

"Amazon uses Telecheck and TRS Recovery Services to process your payment when you use your bank account. Please be aware that should you chose this method of payment, you will be using an Echeck, and your transaction may take x-x business days to process. Should funds not be available, a return check fee of $25 will apply payable to Telecheck (TRS Recovery Services, Inc.)"

Is that so hard!? Instead of hurting your consumers? LOYAL consumers? Not to mention, I got that second email... They are probably going to try and take another 25 dollars from me again just because I ordered. I'm not happy with this at all and I will be making sure to let everyone know to NOT use your bank account with Amazon. Be patient and wait for another payment method because it isn't worth this headache.

And because there wasn't a lot of activity on the account, in their system they declined my check. Which made me look like a total fool. I showed the OfficeMax that I had the funds in the account, but they didn't care. I called Telecheck and had to input my information in 4 times before it went through. No one could help me. Anyway, bottom line check was not approved, nor could they tell me what amount they would approve. The person at Telecheck advice was I should write more checks for bigger amounts, and make sure I only use vendors who use Telecheck. OK, first of all, I'm not wasting my time finding vendors using Telecheck. Secondly if they didn't approve this check why would they approve a larger amount. So I'd opened a bank account not more than a few weeks ago, debit card hadn't shown, and I had to order a new one - still waiting for that one. So I'm having to make all my online purchases via direct bank transactions. And then tonight (9/30/15), not one, not two, but three (3!) transactions (one of which had been processing for two days) are declined by this "Telecheck" service. So I go to check (for the second time in 10 minutes) that I've got my cash in the bank and that it's enough.

Sure enough, my account has more than enough cash in it. So then I try to see what the ** is going on, and I get no info from anywhere about this company except that they really love to shaft people for no apparent reason. So I go back to Amazon and send them an angry email, and now I'm waiting to hear back on that - so I can either get my stuff or tear someone a new one since my bank account is all I have to pay stuff with, and I'm indisposed during operating hours. If there was a zero or a negative number for the rating scale here, you can bet that I'd be a negative 5 stars.

Nor will they make any adjustments on my account, nor guarantee any future checks will be approved.

I see this company was fined $3.5 Million in 2014 for this exact issue and nothing has changed. Class action lawsuit is needed and this company needs to be out of business as they are completely incompetent. I had plenty of money in my bank account to which they said they have no way of knowing that. They said "just don't write checks for merchants that use Telecheck"? Are you kidding me. I went to my car, grabbed my cell and called Wells Fargo customer service. They said there was no hold up with them and connected me to Telecheck. Oh, joy, Telecheck is automated! I had to enter my account number and then enter damn near every number on the face of the check. Then I'm told that my check met several parameters of a fraudulent check and so sorry nothing can be done, but if I want to talk to a representative press 1 and hold the line. They then asked for my zip code as written on the check, which I entered. I received a error message and was hung up on. So I re-entered the store, told the salesman what had happened and he agreed to try and run it again. Same result.

He asked his manager if it could maybe be manually entered and was told that Telecheck doesn't allow that, and they've done all they could at their end. He did give me Telecheck's number to call, so I ran through their automated dog and pony show again. This time I waited and actually got a real human that told me she could find no record of that transaction. She checked acct. number, drivers lic. number and SSN. Nope, absolutely no record of that transaction. She told me to go back to the store and have the manager manually input the routing and account number and if/when it didn't work to call from the store so they could resolve this (don't see how... different operator each call). So back to the store I went to be told again that's not allowed and there's nothing they can do at their end. Hooray, full-circle runaround! Everyone at Best Buy was apologetic for no reason. It's not their fault or mine either. And that's what's so damn frustrating.

I received a letter shortly after regarding collection for bad checks from a check verification company. I contacted my bank and sent them all necessary paperwork. No problem. After sitting with my credit union fraud division and talking with the electronic security division no records exist showing Telecheck attempted to collect on the checks from the Credit union.

Telecheck never put the checks into the bank system. This leads the bank fraud division and myself to believe that Telecheck saw that the checks were in the system as were stolen and filed with the DA to try to scare me out of 841.02. I requested the evidence from the Solano County DA and was informed that they have no evidence. I asked them to formally request the evidence from Telecheck that they followed the law pertaining to dept collection (copies of checks) and a copy of the letter notifying me of the check fraud. She said, "Good luck." Telecheck has still not provided any evidence to the district Atty at this time. My health isn't good and this was very stressful at a time when I couldn't handle it well.

I was contacted on this matter and I was told this would be taken care of. Time will tell. I am still not satisfied with their answer because I am not a risk in writing a check at this business since I have been doing it every week or every two weeks for years. I have never had a check written there returned for insufficient funds or any other reason.

Apparently since June and July 2015 I have written too many checks there for purchases. 5 checks were written in June and the 6th one was denied and in July (3) checks were written and the 4th was denied. All these checks were good for the purchases made. Apparently Walmart has a problem with me making too many purchases with good checks. Maybe they don't want my good business. I prefer not to use credit cards if I don't have to and have always used personal checks or cash.

Now it seems I am being targeted for doing so.

With Telecheck Services, it makes no difference whether or not the checks are good for the amount of the purchase. From my own inquiries, this is a common practice of theirs and there are a lot of people with similar problems with this company. They were fined for 3.5 million dollars in 2014 for fair credit reporting act violations, but this has not stopped them at all. As far as I am concerned this matter will probably not be completely resolved at all.

    Original Review: Aug. 12, 2015

DENIAL OF PERSONAL CHECK FOR PURCHASES AT WALMART. Had to contact them on 06/22/15 and their reason for denial was because my info with them was outdated. Used a check on 07/06/15, 7/20/15, 07/27/15 and no denial was made and then on 07/31/15 my check was denied again. I called TeleCheck again and this was told - it was unusual amount used. This is UNTRUE.

I have good credit but don't write checks frequently. However, as I await my debit card Telecheck is declining my checks due to insufficient history. How can I build history if they decline them? $69.04, was declined at the grocery store and I am told by their customer service it was a large transaction and nothing they can do. Nor will they make any adjustments on my account, nor guarantee any future checks will be approved. I see this company was fined $3.5 Million in 2014 for this exact issue and nothing has changed. Class action lawsuit is needed and this company needs to be out of business as they are completely incompetent.

Telecheck is garbage. Apparently Telecheck does not often see large checks come through the door. I brought one such check to cover the total expense of a dental bill. I had proper ID and more than enough money in my checking account to cover the cost. The fact that Telecheck rejected the check was not only exceptionally frustrating, but very embarrassing. I have paid for more expensive things through other businesses with checks before and never had any issue. To complicate issues, Telecheck will take 7-10 days to "update" my account. No real explanation as to what that means since the person who took my call essentially said "Sorry 7-10 days, call back then" and hung up on me. I will be pushing my family to other dentist this week and will try my hardest to avoid making this mistake again.

My bank informed me Telecheck has no access to the amount of money in a person’s bank account. It is either paid or returned. My check was paid!!! They have no way of knowing you or your services with your bank. I wouldn't have even known but I went to write a check and it was denied. Mind you my checks are never denied. My bank pays all my debts for I have overdraft protection with no set limit.

I do not have a habit of being in the overdraft protection plan but it has happened on occasion. Then Telecheck had ask that I fax them a cover Letter with my bank statement. They owe me a refund and to get my name off the Telecheck system for return checks. Telecheck is a joke for the honest person. I had the staff at Telecheck give me a warning cause I was upset with them and told her I wanted my money back. Needless to say I had to leave groceries & go to bank to cash a check. I ask bank why Telecheck denied the check. Bank said there was nothing wrong with my account but a lot of their customers are having problems with them. When I finally got home I called them. At first they had no idea why my check had been denied but finally said "have you moved?" I said "yes a year and a half ago, what does that have to do with anything?". They could not give any answer except the usual run around. Told them I want to speak to a supervisor. They said one would contact me in 48 hours. NO ONE CALLED.

The next week I had to buy tires while waiting for them. I went to grocery store as usual. My check was denied again. When I called Telecheck they said I had cashed a check earlier for tires. Who are these people big brother? I could see if I bounced checks or did not have the funds but I do not write checks if I do not have money, plus I did not know I had to ask permission to buy what I need, or have Telecheck giving me permission. When I called the second time I did talk to a supervisor who was irritated because I was not buying his answer that I had bought tires which was not something I usually do. What difference does that make life happens & we all have things come up we usually do not do??? When I use my credit card & they think something is wrong they call me & tell me to call them back, not like big brother does & denies me to spend MY money. Does anyone know how to get this company to stop harassing people for no reason??

They told me that their "system" had flagged me because of my purchases. I ask why, and they cannot tell me. I ask what purchase flagged this, they cannot tell me. They tell me it's the system and there's nothing they can do to make my transaction go through. I ask how long is this going to be an issue? They can't tell me. The bank did their work and found that the check was not written by us, so we got the $831.38 back in our account. We live in Minnesota and the check was written to a Wal-Mart in Wisconsin.

These douchebags bought the debt from Wal-Mart because we put a stop payment on the check, and now they aren't going to get one red cent from ANYONE.

I went to the grocery store last week and wrote out a check. I was so embarrassed when the store refused my check. I called Telecheck and was told because it was a new account my using it at the store caused it to show suspicious activity. The girl at Telecheck told me to use my other checking account number for a reference number since it was an account we had had since 2001. She supposedly put my other checking account information in as a reference and told me everything would be fine.

I went back to another store today and was refused again! I am getting pretty tired of this. This time when I called the girl told me I should call from the check out line and go through the automated service to get the check cleared! Like I am going to do that for 10 minutes while customers wait in line behind me! This is my money and I should be able to write out a check! Telecheck is a horrible company with people working there that you can't understand and that don't really care what you say, or how you feel. What do I do? Close out my account and pay for everything with cash?

I called the number and was disconnected after entering in the information. If they are going to decline people, THEY NEED TO ANSWER THEIR FREAKING PHONES and GET IT STRAIGHTENED OUT! Now this business that we tried to purchase from thinks that our business is no good. Will never write another check to anyone that uses Telecheck!

I was shocked when I tried to pre-pay for gasoline at the local Dodge's convenience store on 9 Mile Road in Pensacola, FL. The amount was for $20.00. I have been paying by check at this store since I have been patronizing it for approximately ten years. The clerks essentially were rude and told me to call Telecheck at the phone number listed on the "denial record." When I called the firm and punched all the buttons, I was able to reach a customer assistance rep rather quickly. However, I had difficulty in understanding her and she never did answer my basic questions: Why was my check denied? What will be the future consequences of the denial? Will I have problems with other firms and other checks? When will this mishap be fixed?

I went to Office Depot to purchase a printer. I wrote a check for $128.69 and it was declined. I have never had a check declined before! The sales clerk couldn't give me a reason. I knew there was several thousand dollars in the account. I went home, got online and checked my account and there was plenty of money in the account. So, I went back to Office Depot. The salesclerk gave me a receipt from the register that had Telecheck's contact info. I called and after 7 minutes of punching in numbers to an automated system, I finally got to talk to some one. Now listen to the reason they gave me that my check was declined. They said that the majority of checks that I wrote to merchants that use Telecheck's averaged around $40 and since this one was $128.69, it was way from the norm on the risk analysis. Are you friggin kidding me?!! I just wanted a new printer!

So by then, I was pretty damn angry. The salesclerk said he was sorry. I told him don't worry about it and tell his manager that Telecheck just cost them a sale. So, I come home and called Telecheck back and asked for a supervisor. That didn't do any good and now they have probably flagged me and I won't be able to write a check anywhere. I will just start carrying more cash and avoid any business using Telecheck.

I tried to pay my Sprint phone bill using my checking account. Since I'd never paid via that account, my payment was declined. Sprint told me to call Telecheck to get everything straightened out. I called them and entered my checking info as prompted (which took about 8-10min using the automated system). When I was finally transferred to a live agent, the background was so noisy that I had to ask her to repeat herself. She hung up on me. The total amount of time I was on the phone was about 30min and nothing was accomplished.

I called back and had to repeat the process. Fifteen minutes later I was transferred to an agent. She finally told me why my account was declined because I didn't write enough checks. You read it correctly. Apparently I needed to either write more checks or increase the amount of the check I was trying to use. My check-writing history is rare so they needed me to write more checks. My bank verified that the funds were there and they offered to call Telecheck with me on the phone. This was a mess, from the beginning to the end. This makes me want to cut all ties to Sprint.

Today, I found out they charged back my checking account for $613 and never notified me. They state a check they approved and I paid a percentage to them for their service to guarantee the check, had a "stop payment" placed on the check after they approved it. They state they are not responsible for stop payments unless I pay an additional fee that I do not currently pay. I told them I was not told this was an additional service that required an additional fee. I was given an approval code and paid the fee and expected them to honor the check. They refused saying I was not covered for stop payments. If the customer had let the check bounce, I would be covered. This is ridiculous and they should immediately refund all fees that I paid them as well as honor the check they approved.

After going through their aggravating phone system, I spoke to a live person who informed me that we did not have enough history on the account, so it seemed we were a bad risk. I did not have my debit card or a credit card with me and had 50 bucks cash in my pocket. I called my bank thinking someone had cleaned my account out to find there was plenty of money in the account. My banker told me that Gander Mountain probably uses a "check service." I called Telecheck, Gander Mountain's choice in "Check Service" handler and after 5 minutes navigating their recordings, I entered the amount of the check, the routing number, the account number, zip code and check number THREE times until I could speak with a human. Then the non-American human asked for all that information again. In addition she asked for my home phone, home address, got the address wrong and asked to clarify. I repeated my address as she had butchered the name of the street, and had to tell her my zip code for the 4th time.

She then read from a script saying basically I was unverified in their system. "How do you get verified," I asked??? You write small checks and build up to $72.21 through their system. I was many miles from home, and had one check in my pickup and a driver license. I have bought thousands of dollars worth from that store, but I guess that is the bottom line - big business, big bucks. Take the human factor out of whose check you will accept and leave it to a machine to decide if you are good for the check. POOR BUSINESS.

He then asked me questions, like address, phone number, etc. He also told me that I had written a number of checks in a short time and that was another reason it may have not been accepted. Fast forward five days, I am at Best Buy, write a check and it is declined. I am embarrassed/furious at the same time. I call TeleCheck and tell them “I want this problem solved”.

They apologized multiple times and said they couldn't do anything. It was because I had never written a check at Best Buy from this account. HELLO it’s a new account. I asked for a supervisor and she told me she couldn't say when/where my check would be accepted. She said “it might be and it might not be”. I asked if I should call and ask if they would accept it and she said no I could only call after the check wasn't accepted. I proceeded to tell her “that wasn't going to happen” and after all it is a checking account so it would make sense that I write checks for things. I was told to call during business hours and ask for the O.O.P. office but after reading some of these comments I may save myself the aggravation. Used another checking account that had about the same amount in and it also rejected it. Luckily we also had a credit card with us that (at least) wasn't refused.

Called Telecheck afterward and was told the 1st account they had no record of, so the risk management was bad. The 2nd account wasn't used enough and also 'according' to their risk management was poor. We use both accounts, pay bills with them, have a excellent credit score and never had problems before. There was plenty of funds to cover the check.

So I called Telecheck again (third time). This time a male, customer service representative told me that the previous person I had spoke to could not have told me I could write checks. When I kept interrupting him trying to get some real answers, he finally said to me, that it would be an additional 10 days before I could write a check and possibly have to start over (the 7-10 day thing) because my check had been declined. On top of this they insisted I owed them (Telecheck) $35 for the returned check. I paid my bank their return check fee and the store's fee. Why would I have to pay Telecheck and why can they hold control over someone's checking account and the bank has no say so. I called the number on the letter and the lady told me it was from a bank account I never had and told me a phone number that was never mine. She gave me another number to call and said my information was probably attached to the wrong file. She said to call the disassociation department and they would take care of it. The funny part is even the old address they sent the letters to was not right. The street was spelled wrong and the zip code was wrong.

Of course she said they had to do an investigation and said they would call me or send a letter clearing me. A couple of days later I received a message on my phone when I was at work saying they needed more information like my license number. They gave me a name and number to call with the business hours. I called back multiple time during the business hours and no one answered. So I called the original numbers because I had them on my phone and talk to another lady that couldn't help me because I didn't have the case number, because I was at work.

When I gave them a check I was informed that it had been declined. I have never heard of a check being declined but the cashier advised I call the company and inquire. I followed the prompts and received a recording stating the reason for being denied which I still did not understand. I waited 5 mins for a rep to pick up and spoke with a female who could barely speak English. She stated that since I do not have a history of writing checks that factored into the decision to decline it. I told her that I normally use a debit card and just use checks in emergencies.

I asked her how I could have more than enough money in my account to cover the check but still be declined. Her answer was that they do not have access to the accounts and that based on my lack of history and the fact that the check was 500 it was deemed a risk. She advised me that if I write small checks to gain history it would help. I thanked her for not helping and hung up. How can a company work like this? Luckily the dealer was kind enough to let me take my car to the bank and get cash or else I would have been screwed. If TeleCheck markets itself as being modern, then why does a consumer have to sit and wait on a phone line to find out what happened? Why don't they offer online services so that a consumer can view info and request corrections? The answer is because they don't want to - they are really more interested in the debt collection business. They've already paid the FTC more than $3.5 million because they forced consumers to write, provide documentation, and use paper intense methods, which keep the problem going longer.

Here's what happened to me: I've been paying for my groceries by check at the same grocery chain for the past 25 years. Last week, my check was declined but the store manager did an override on it because it was happening to many other shoppers. It's embarrassing to know that the cashier and manager know that it was declined. I was fortunate that the manager approved the override. So no - TeleCheck doesn't care if there's money in your checking account. All they care about is a risk rating that they calculate about you. Terrible...

I investigated my credit report and saw nothing unexpected or unusual, except that my FICO score had changed slightly. Then I contacted TeleCheck and after listening to some "factoids" which made very little sense, I realized that my risk rating had changed because I closed a credit card account about 6 weeks ago. I closed the card because the bank had their collection department call me on the day after the next bill was created. They were trying to "help" me make a payment 27 days early so that I could avoid derogatory reporting about being over my credit card limit! It was $2 over the credit card limit because the annual enrollment fee was charged plus 2 other fees which the customer service person could not identify (close to $100 for the enrollment and 2 fees). I made a payment online while I was speaking to customer service and when they could not identify both fees, I closed the account. (One fee was a mysterious "account servicing fee", supposedly for being able to look at account information online).

My other credit card is well below its limit but my risk percentage changed because now I "only" have a single credit card. Suddenly, I've become a check writing risk - because I closed an account. Yet, I have not missed a credit card payment or a car loan payment.

If people will boycott the businesses that use this unfair service, maybe the businesses will get the message that we want change to their practices.

Embarrassed, oh yes. When I called today around 12, your representative, a young female, she was no lady. I was still talking to her and she hung up. Since I am leaving today and won't be back until Friday, I lose my layaway. Hopefully, not all my money. All of this because I don't use checks for payments in the stores. I am embarrassed and very upset. I need, I want an explanation. This is ridiculous. Please respond.

I "adopted" a teenage girl from the Angel tree at my YMCA center today (Dec 11). The gifts were to be turned in by the 15th which is Monday. Her (chosen Angel) heart's desire was underwear and a cell phone... reasonable request, I think. So I went to my local Super Wal-Mart, shopped for a cell phone and service card for 2 months use. Total was $117. I used a check. No problem. Then I spent 3 1/2 hours buying games, clothes and personal care items for my "Angel". Total $192.22. My check was declined. I had more than $1200.00 in the account. I called Telecheck. The EXCUSE I was given... because I seldom write checks! I spend an average of $879 per month at Wal-Mart. I can shop elsewhere from now on. I called them and had to put the amount into an electronic database 8 times before the thing finally got it right. Angry? Oh yes, definitely!

Call Telecheck and have an agent tell me I only wrote a check on November last year and don't have much of a history but no flags on my name but she updated system and try again in 7 days or write a check for smaller amount. Very embarrassing, and shame to be penalized for writing few checks, but use at Walmart grocery store all the time, no problems.

My experience doesn't rate a star, but I couldn't submit this otherwise. As was the case with MANY others, my check was denied; when I called the 888 number the request track just kept looping. After entering my information 3 times, I tried to contact a "live person" using the "0" (most reputable firms are set up to allow this, obviously telecheck is not among them). My check was declined at the pharmacy in Walmart. I am not aware of any changes in the law that states a check CANNOT be refused to pay for medications. Therefore, what you did is illegal. Any comments? If it happens again, I will pursue the issue.

I was shopping at Walmart on 12/7/2014. The store was extremely crowded and lines were long as is expected at this time of the year. I tried to write a check and to my surprise it was declined. This was a Sunday evening, of course I could not reach my bank, so I worried about this all night, knowing I had money in my account. I did not know if my account had been hacked or what the issue was. I called Telecheck first thing Monday morning. After several minutes of punching in numbers I finally reached a human. The woman barely spoke English, was extremely rude to put it politely and told me absolutely nothing other than Telecheck has the right to refuse anyone. She placed me on hold 5 times without even telling me she was going to (I would suddenly hear music and find that she was gone again). She refused to let me speak to a supervisor, called my bank without my permission, and asked me for my pin number so she could verify my account.

At this point I demanded to speak to a supervisor and was hung up on. I tried calling again and could not get through the computer to speak to a person. I checked with the BBB and found Telecheck has over 300 complaints. Other sites state that they have settled fraudulent lawsuits. I say SHAME ON WALMART for using this company. By writing a check I am entrusting the store with my financial information and I expect Walmart to use a company that is reputable. After reading through the Telecheck complaints from others it seems many people have had a long running issue with Telecheck that starts with Walmart. I am furious with Telecheck but even more so with Walmart for using this company.

I went into Best Buy in Menifee, CA on 12/6/14 to purchase a Christmas gift for my son who is currently living in Australia. I was excited to have found some items for him in time to mail and arrive by Christmas. My purchase came to $338 and some change. I pulled out my debit card to pay for the purchase but at the last second, I changed my mind because of all the credit card breaches occurring. I had just watched a program on TV about this several nights prior. I decided to write a check instead, which I do less frequently anymore. What a surprise to be told that my check was declined. The only time I ever paid overdraft charges was about 30 years ago when I was 20 years old and was six cents under in my checking account. I won't disclose the amount of funds in my account when Best Buy denied me, but I can say that my funds and their availability were not in question.

I was a bit embarrassed because I am very responsible with my finances and never in my wildest dreams did I ever think my check would be denied. Of course when the clerk tells you it is denied, every other clerk and customer turns around to see who is passing the "bad check." I assured them the check was indeed good and told them I would pull up my banking account on my phone right then to prove it. When one of the clerks told me they couldn't run the check again because it had been voided, I asked to write another check but was denied. My husband said "just pay with your card" which I did do just to prove I had the funds, although not being sure why the check was being denied, I wasn't certain what to expect when they ran my card. The purchase was successful on my card which is ridiculous because both the check and the card belong to the same checking account.

I am fuming and I, like many other people logging complaints here, called the Telecheck number on the back of the check and was asked over and over to enter the same checking information into the automated system. Finally, I pressed "0" for operator about 30 times out of frustration and when nothing happened, I hung up.

I would like to join in on a class action lawsuit. Additionally, I have decided to return my items to Best Buy and will purchase the items elsewhere. I will not support any retailer who chooses to use a company like Telecheck. I have had my checking account with my bank for about 12 years and have an excellent record with them along with a savings account. I will not be told that I am not credit-worthy. I also intend to write Best Buy and let them know of my decision. If enough people let the retailers know they won't shop at their establishments if they use such an unscrupulous company like Telecheck and let them dictate who can make purchases, they may decide that any benefit Telecheck provides is negated by the amount of customers and purchases they are losing.

My check was declined at Walmart on November 30th!!! There was enough funds in the bank. When I called Telecheck to find out why it was declined, The automated system wanted lots of information to be put in before even getting to speak to someone. The representative read paragraphs of unrelated information that could be the reason I was declined. I gave all my information that they requested, even my previous checking account information. I spent over an hour on the phone trying to resolve this issue. I was told they have the proper information now and I should be able to write checks in the future. I tried to write a check today, in which I was told it is declined @ Family Dollar.

This starts a whole new process in yet another decline. I know the funds were in the bank account. I called telecheck again and spoke to "Red" and she started with reading paragraphs. I asked to speak to a supervisor. I got a supervisor, "Amber" and she did the same thing as the last representative, reading paragraphs of possible reasons. I asked to please tell me what I can do to avoid this happening again. I got more paragraphs read to me. I asked to speak to Amber's manager. I was transferred to "Velvet". She told me that she could not guarantee any future checks that I write would not be declined. I told her I never wrote a Bad check! She said wait 7 days. Ugh.

First off, let me say my Wife and I have been doing business with Best Buy since they came to Spartanburg, SC - approximately 35 years ago. We have sometimes paid more than we could buy the same thing for at a competitor because they were a small store when they first opened and their employees came to know us - at least by our faces!

Yes, we are older - 67 and 65. We don't like Debit cards because we're concerned we'll forget to write an expenditure into our ledger and possibly cause an overdraft - which we'll admit is unlikely because we keep a fairly large balance, have overdrafts on all our checking accounts and also have them connected to our Savings Accounts. And yes, we also refuse to Bank on Line! Yes, I'm also OCD! LOL!

Thursday - Before Black Friday - we went to our Current Best Buy and bought a new LG Refrigerator and wrote a check for $1888.00. No problem. We started to leave the store and noticed a Kindle Fire HD that our Grown Son had - at our request - listed on his "Amazon Wish List". (We have all our Family keep an Amazon Wish List). The Kindle was only $10.00 more than Amazon and I decided to go ahead and get it. I wrote a check for $127.XX. The Clerk ran the check and then advised me it was "Declined". It had a lot of writing on the back and actually said check was NOT being declined due to insufficient funds. The Clerk said she had never seen anything like that. She went to a Manager and he said he didn't know what was going on either. I put my phone on "Speakerphone" and let him, the clerk and everyone standing near us hear the conversation when I dialed the 800 number included in the writing on the back of the check.

Now understand, I had never heard of "Telecheck". When I was answered - obviously by someone out of the U.S. - I explained why I was calling. The Rep advised ALL OF US - ENTIRE STORE - that we had written an inordinately HIGH number of checks recently. I said "Yes, We are retired; going out of town; and pre-paid a number of Bills that would come due before we returned. I told her she was welcome to check our balance. (At this point, I thought I was talking with someone in the "Fraud Department" of our Bank. We had this happen about 17 1/2 years ago after I retired and my Wife and I were traveling across the US and Canada on an extended trip for our 30th anniversary. Even our AT&T Calling Card was temporarily suspended because of possible fraud even though that was where I had just retired!!) Anyhow, this was when I found out I was talking with someone with "Telecheck"!

I told her I was still in Best Buy and would be glad to show THEM any info they wanted including both my and my Wifes DL's, CWP's, Picture ID's; whatever. She said would make no difference. We had spent too much money in too short of time!!?? She said we would need to wait about 7 days until they "Reset" their System! I said, "Have you lost your Mind? It's Christmas! We're shopping and are going to be spending more money in the next month than probably any other 3 month period!!!”

We went to our Bank the next day and asked them why they had our funds frozen? The Customer Svc Mgr. said she wasn't familiar with this system and suggested we use our Debit Card. We reminded her we didn't have or want a Debit Card! She suggested we withdraw some cash. I assured her I had more cash on me than she did! (Sorry for sounding arrogant but I'm still P.O.'ed!!) We just now - on this forum - learned that it is the MERCHANTS that are subscribing to this service!

We read the WISE AXX comment from the obviously young "Whipper Snapper" saying checks are going away. He may be correct. Wonder if he has older parents or grandparents who don't trust the Internet and have reason to not, i.e., I've been "Hacked" twice in the last 5 years - but they didn't get financial data because "IT'S NOT ONLINE"!! JERK FACE!! He may be right. Certain Establishments may quit taking my checks. That's OK. I'm well known enough that SOMEONE ELSE WILL!!

Oh, yeah, for those establishments that prefer CC's - they lose 1 - 5 % in Merchant Fees depending upon what processor they use. (Any Merchant who accepts "American Express" is an Idiot! Their average Fee to the merchants is 5%!!) I just closed a small business (Second Retirement!) and never accepted American Express. Those ** be Crazy!!

Well, my wife said it's time to terminate the thesis and come to bed. After 47 1/2 years, I showed her and got in the last word!! (Yes, Dear)! I was going to cancel the LG Delivery but just found out H. H. Gregg uses Telecheck also! And our main Refrigerator just went out. Still may cancel AFTER THEY GET HERE! If they don't want MY CHECKS after 35 years, I don't want them to have MY CASH!

Does anyone know a list of Retailers who don't use Telecheck OR can remove their longtime customers from this 3rd World Country of Idiot Reps? Although I realize the Company is probably owned by a Corp in America just using 3rd world support for 5 cents an hour!

Today, November 29 2014, I went to my local Shopko to partake in the extended after Thanksgiving sale. I spent over two hours in this store... some nice Christmas gift purchases and a winter jacket for myself. At the check-out, I wrote a check for over $200 and my check was declined. I have written checks other times at this store and not a problem. I should say that this is the second time I have had a check declined. The first time it happened was over a year ago and my check was under $50. At that time, I asked the check-out gal, "Why?" She told me it was probably because I didn't have "a history" with this store. At that time and this time, I have the proper funds in my checking account, so a 'lack of funds' was not the problem.

Back to today. I was bummed and somewhat irritated. I'm sure I glared back at the gal when I told her to "just forget the whole thing." What a bunch of malarkey. I asked the gal, "Maybe the check was read wrong?" But she told me the machine would not even let it run through a second time. "Sorry!" She handed back my check and that was that. I was sorry, but I was not embarrassed for the 'shame' of having been rejected. After reading everyone's reviews on here, there's no point in trying to call anyone because I'll just get the run-around. I am complaining just to make myself feel better, however.

Thanksgiving evening and Black Friday my wife and family were out of town approximately 350 miles away from home. She did not take very much cash only her debit card and check book. That night our checks was refused at our local Walmart store which there are usually checks written 3-5 times a week. The next day in Tennessee and Virginia, we had numerous checks denied at various vendors throughout the states. When this first happened at Victoria's Secret's my wife called me and told me what had happened and how embarrassing it was standing in line for 35 minutes and the line behind her held up because of this situation. I called TeleCheck and was told by an automated service to enter my checking account number routing number and check number I had to do this at least five times to get this to go through. I was then switched over to an customer service operator who was not interested in helping nor wanted to help. I was talk to very rude and I asked to speak to their supervisor. This man got on the phone with an attitude and was very rude also and that made me angry and I lost my cool as well. I feel that this man put a check on my account at that time that when any other checks went through, they would be denied.

I cannot prove this but later found a number on the Internet that I could call and not be put through an automated system a man answered the phone by the name of Sal, and was very helpful he actually called my bank and verified that there was money in her checking account and it was not a fraudulent account. I thought that this matter has been taken care of I asked the first supervisor why was this happening. All he would tell me is that there was an increase in our check writing out of town and that is why the checks were being denied. This second supervisor told me that we had written approximately $80,000 worth of checks through various vendors and none returned by the bank. I thought this was finally taken care of until about 8:30 PM Friday, November 28, 2014.

I received another phone call from my daughter telling me that they had denied another check at another vendor and just embarrassed my wife so bad that she had to leave the store and go to her vehicle. I then called TeleCheck again and tried to reach the second supervisor that I had spoken with earlier however this number he gave me went to an answering service that he was out. I then called the telephone number to TeleCheck and after entering the account number routing number and check number and the amount of the check which took about another 10 minutes. I finally was connected with another customer service operator who was very unwilling to help and did not try to find out why this was happening again. She actually was trying to end the call and I said, "wait just one minute I want to speak to your supervisor." When the lady got on the phone about 10 minutes later she said that she could not see where the last transaction had been denied.

I then called the store Bed Bath and beyond in Bristol TN, and asked to speak to their manager. The lady told me that she remembered my wife being there and how embarrassed she was. I asked her if she knew why this was happening and if it was happening all day long to other people she said no. Then asked the lady from TeleCheck on my other phone if she was sure about the transaction being denied. She asked for my drivers license number and my wife's license number and she was still showing no transaction denied. I asked her if she thought that I was making this up she said, "no I heard the other lady at the store telling you." And then she asked me to have my wife try again at another store later and if this problem happens again to call from that store immediately and try to find out what the problem is. One other piece of information that I would like to pass along is that while I was speaking with the first supervisor his name was Andy his id# **, he told me that the reason he thought this was happening was because there was more than one check written at Walmart within a very few minutes of each other.

I know I was very upset and probably said a lot of things I shouldn't but I was very upset with the way I was being treated and the embarrassment that my wife was going through while shopping with my family. There was no need for this supervisor to act the way he did and still not help the situation. I asked him again why is this happening it has never happened before and I find it hard to Believe that it was happening just because there was checks being written. I asked my wife later how many check she had tried to write and she said three or four all in a row. All these checks were in order one right after another in sequence. Every check that she tried to write was denied.

I understand that there is an increase in fraud and bad checks in today's world but there is no excuse in this sloppy way of handling this situation by a company like TeleCheck. The embarrassment that my wife went through today and we may have to go through the rest of the weekend is not right and something has to be done I would appreciate someone contacting me my telephone number is **. My home telephone number is **. Monday morning I am going to contact the Better Business Bureau along with my personal attorney to see if there is anything that can be done to rectify this matter.

Like it's your fault that a bank closed their doors and you had to change banks. We don't have direct deposit with our company, so we have to deposit the check at the bank. If we had direct deposit at work, we wouldn't have had to change to another bank. We are being punished for changing our bank. So the stores, like Walmart and some other stores, will not let me write a check with their store. I wrote checks, with my old bank, for years and never had this Telecheck issue.

When the woman took my check, she ran it in her system and said it was declined. Mind you, I have a 4 and 5 year old with me who are now running around like animals. I called telecheck up with my so called code number and was told I had not wrote very many checks so I had to build up some sort of check experience with them. Then he noticed I had wrote a check just previous to the one that was declined. Then was told that it was out of character to write two checks in a row like that, so that was why I was declined.

I DID not realize I had a limit to how many checks I could write per day. I guess my debit card would have been better so that I could worry about hackers getting into my checking account, which is why I went back to writing checks in the first place, because I normally would have used my debit card. But because I have reverted back to checks, I seem to have to build up to telecheck’s standards before being able to write how ever many checks I choose too... All this without even having a bad check out there. I will find out who uses telecheck and will not use these companies!!! And by the way I have purchased a much larger amount at walmart in the past, the only difference it was with one check!!!!

I have been with my current bank for 2 years. I have written many checks to Nordstrom and other merchants around town for dollar amounts of $300-$500.00 on a regular basis and routinely spend about $500.00 a month at 'Nordies". Today the clerk rang up my purchase for $409.00 and TeleCheck would not approve the check. I was not embarrassed, having nothing to be embarrassed about, however this probably does lead others to wonder if I bounce checks.

I called TeleCheck immediately and had a nasty phone conversation with a woman in Manila - who put through to her supervisor - another woman in Manila - who informed me she wouldn't give me any information until I told her all my information - the name/address info on the check and the routing and account numbers!! Really - that's all the Manila Philippines woman needs to create a check in my name and create fraud - while staying well out of reach of American law enforcement (I work for the federal prosecutors - fraud happens every day to everyone!).

The computerized response system did tell me my check was denied because - ha ha - I was a statistical risk!! Well - I marched my risky butt back into the store and talked to customer service and PLAYED the computerized response as to why they denied it. I plan on following up with Nordstrom tomorrow and calling the Consumer Protection Bureau and filing a Consumer Complaint against TeleCheck with our State Better Business Bureau and the Federal Consumer Protection Bureau. If you have been defamed - please do the same. I also will write checks every time I go to Nordstrom - if they won't take my check - I'll shop elsewhere!

Recently however, a hiccup in my husband's pay schedule caused our bank account to go to shambles. Pending checks processed with no deposits and one of those checks was returned, check # **. This check was drafted from our account within 4 days of the return and within eleven days the fee of $30 was taken from the bank as well. Since this issue, myself and my husband, have written several checks locally through companies associated with Telecheck--no problem. However, recently many have been denied-up to seven, and for multiple different reasons via your automated system and multiple representatives. Today, I got yet another check declined. I dot know your particular personal family position, but I wonder - do you have children? Children of age to understand when Mommy's check doesn't work at the check out and we have to put everything back and come back later. I wonder if you or anyone you know have been so humbled by that experience in front of a group of peers, to have to return your items and leave empty handed.

Though my first occasion with your company at Walmart...a local man generously paid for my items from behind me, and asked for nothing in return but to thank God-- the other six transactions have not been so kind. I am baffled, when researching your company as to how you have remained in business. Then, I realize big company corporations --money scheming, government cronies run this country today. I have seen however multiple articles on the FTC investigating your company and in fact, causing big payouts to be made. Applause from Tennessee. It is devastating as a hard working, respectable and tried and true American small town family is embarrassed at the local Family Dollar check out line, as a check is declined. So today, I decided I had enough. I have filed a Better Business Bureau complaint, I am citing the reasons listed above. Only to add this, I called your company and spoke with 'Eddie' he gave me employee # **. I gave Eddie quite the talking to, because as he explained your company had no valid reason for declining my check written today. Not one reason. He encouraged me to have this local company contact your company to which I laughed.

My local family dollar manager is going to call this Telecheck company which is unaccredited to the Better Business Bureau--which by the way, speaks VOLUMES--and tell Telecheck he knows me--it's okay to process my checks. I encourage you to work with your company policies, government, FTC guidelines and LAWS. What you are doing is heinous. I hope this letter hits you right between the eyes, and strikes a cord in corporate hearts. It is companies like you, running our country into the ground.

I was simply not allowed to write a check, because I had never written a check to a telecheck company before. Seriously? My check was declined at Home Depot on 9/6/14. The clerk at Home Depot gave me TeleCheck's 800 number and a 7 digit code to use to find out the reason for the decline. I called TeleCheck and was told that it wasn't for insufficient funds or history, but because it was the second check I'd written to Home Depot that day! The first check was at a different Home Depot. The second check at the second Home Depot location was because they had the item I wanted whereas the first Home Depot didn't. That and the total amounts (about $350) caused the check to be declined! It was ID'd by TeleCheck as a "risk"! I had to get the money in cash (very inconvenient) because Home Depot's debit and credit card security is breached. The Home Depot manager said he had no part in policy making; it comes from corporate headquarters in Atlanta. I'm not going there anymore.

I called Telecheck from the parking lot of Walmart. Telecheck would not give me a reason why check was denied. I got people reading Q cards like robots. I tried writing a check from my business account of 20 yrs. and they tried telling me they didn't have any history on me. Well I've been at same bank for several years, been in business for 20 yrs., been at same address 16 yrs. Been writing checks for years, so they have plenty of history on me.

Telecheck has been sued for same thing they’re pulling on me. You call them; you can’t get any straight answers. No customer service at all. They have our business account red flagged for no reason. They've told me if I try to write a check it can be denied for no reason. This is not fair by any means, and now I have to worry about further embarrassment and time. I am about to stop shopping at Walmart altogether. Yesterday, 8/20/14, I was shopping with my son for all his first year college supplies at Bed Bath & Beyond in Brookfield, WI. I offered payment with a check tied to a Bank of NY Mellon investment account. The account held funds that we had saved over the past 18 years specifically for the purpose of college expenses. We ordered new checks as a way to draw from the account. A check in the morning to Office Max received Telecheck authorization, however, the check to Bed Bath & Beyond was declined. I had two full carts of merchandise with a very long line of customers. They actually had to open addition check out lines because of the back up and the time it was taking.

The manager provided Telecheck's number to call to resolve the matter. I was on the call for one hour 15 minutes, at least 1 hour on hold. Telecheck verified that sufficient funds were available in my account, but declined because the check did not meet their "guidelines." The amount was over $1,000 and the account did not have a checking history. There were no problems with suspected fraud, prior bad check, credit matters - nothing. It was just because it was a new account. The agent could not provide any information to me about how to correct the situation for future transactions, and lead me to believe that checks for tuition, books, etc. would not be honored. The agents were less than polite, initially refused to put me through to a manager, and unable to resolve the matter.

I have no other way to draw funds from this account for these purchases. This is wrong, and crazy, that a third party intermediary can provide misleading information to the retailer precluding the use of legitimate checks.

I am a lawyer, and my intuition tells me that this outcome must be in violation of either Fair Credit Reporting, an act of defamation, or some other claim, so I will begin researching. I have never posted a complaint online about any consumer matters, but I will now begin researching all of the avenues to get the word out. Maybe the message needs to be really hit hard with the retailers who use Telecheck, if enough of the unhappy customers avoided those retailers who have contracts with Telecheck, they may reconsider their selection of this vendor.

My 18 year old son and 10 year old daughter were with me, and this was a humiliating experience. Just not right!

On July 17, 2014 I stopped at my local Rite Aid Pharmacy in Morgantown, WV, where I'd been doing business for years, to pick up my prescription. I wrote a check for $44.00 and was shocked when the pharmacist told me it was denied! I'd never heard of Telecheck, and when I called the number on the "denied slip", the man asked me for my personal financial bank information and driver's license number. I said, "No way!" I had much more than $44 in the bank to cover the check (at least $4,000) and there was no excuse for Rite Aid not taking it.

Since then I have researched complaints about Telecheck and found many many other people have been publicly embarrassed and denied too for no good reason. This is a form of discrimination. They also weren't given a good reason. I have been doing business with Rite Aid for years!! I've never had a check bounce; there was no excuse for my check being denied. My credit is excellent (credit score of 901), and I always pay my bills and never write check overdrafts. It is intolerable that some nitwit company would throw some "parameters" together and decide who can write checks and who can't.

I am uncomfortable now about writing checks at all. It was humiliating and what infuriates me more, is that they made a false judgment about my ability to pay for my purchases. Who in the hell do they think they are? They know nothing about me OR my financial practices. I was appalled to read so many others have experienced the same thing. This incompetent company needs to be stopped, sued, whatever it takes to get them the hell out of our lives. Needless to say, after calling Telecheck from my car, I flew back into Rite Aid and promptly told them to cancel my prescription, that I was taking my business elsewhere, which I have done. Apparently, many merchants are now using this incompetent company! As long as I can, I will avoid those merchants.

This whole situation is outrageous. But the ability to purchase products/services has been significantly changed, and for what? I guess I will have to resort to using cash/credit card. If a merchant decides to no longer take checks, that's one thing. But if I'm making a purchase from a business that accepts checks and mine are not accepted, I am being discriminated against without a good reason. I read where Telecheck was sued in a class action suit recently, but it wasn't enough. They are bogus, incompetent, misrepresent what they do and base their decisions on God only knows what!! I hope people also avoid the merchants who use Telecheck. Maybe they'll come up with an appropriate way to screen their customers for bad check writing. Because this company is anything but appropriate!!

It was not that I had not proved my identity or that funding was not in the account to cover the check or even I have a great record as a responsible consumer. Then a few days later, I went to Shopko. My purchases where just over $200. I wrote a check on one of our other bank accounts. Guess what? It too was declined. When I got home and call the number to see what was wrong with that check, I was told if I had called from the store, the check would have been allowed through. Well, who in the heck is going to stand in line and call this company in front of stranger? Today they declined it at a Walmart that I write 2 to 3 checks to every day for years because it is a new acct and they won't transfer the information over from the old acct so they know my check writing patterns. They are usually rude and always give the excuse that the check fell outside their guidelines but they won't tell you what those guidelines are. They declined my check at another Walmart yesterday and when I called them, they cleared it and it worked fine. Today, they said they could not do it today.

The manager of SPECS LIQUORS in Galleria (Lakeway) gave me a phone number (1-800-366-5010) to call to "find out why my check was rejected." Turned out after entering endless keyed-in information, that number was for merchants only. They told me to call 1-800-355-2425 which supposedly operated 24/7. That turned out to be a debt-collection site that recommends that you go to their website for more information about "how to pay your debt."

There is no consumer number for TeleCheck and as Consumer Affairs points out, this company does not respond to complaints. Merchants need to put pressure on TeleCheck to respond to rejections that are not warranted - and the only way we as consumers can make that happen is to ask the merchant whether they want our business. This was a local check - both my bank and my house are within 3 miles of this store - and it is not a new account. I'm not as angry about the check being rejected as I am the store manager's incorrect information that both scared me and wasted a lot of my time. But, I would be really angry had someone been with me as this would reflect on me. I did insist on their calling my bank who told them the check was good - but they still wouldn't take it. In retrospect, I should have just declined to make the purchase and gone elsewhere. Now that I've entered all my information, these jerks are probably going to reject all my checks. Had to call the manager over who proceeded to tell us that the company (Tele-check) refused to accept our check. She told us that we could call them, voided the sale, began to empty all our items out of the bags. When my wife called Tele-check, they told her they wouldn't accept our check because of too much activity on the account. We had just made a purchase at Buy Buy baby (owned by Bed Bath and Beyond) a few minutes ago. In order to make our purchase, I had to drive 1/2 hour home to get my credit cards, then 1/2 hour back to complete our purchase. My wife was mortified, because people were walking by her, looking at her as she waited with a cart full of items as she waited for me to return. I was upset, when they asked me if I had any other way to pay for the items, as the manager removed them from the cart and I had to inform her, I would have to go home.

I lost my debit card this morning. I went into another business today and I wasn't able to locate my card. Upon arriving to work, I received an e-mail that my card had been cancelled. The person who found the card automatically cancelled it. I remembered I had checks so I wrote one to Sprint. The check was automatically declined due to me not having a check writing history with them. This is so not fair. I work two jobs. I had 5 times the amount in my account for the check. I hate TeleCheck. This is horrible service. I'm so aggravated because we are scheduled to go on vacation tomorrow and I don't have a debit card and to top it off, my checks are no good.

After several years, I finally replenished my personal checks, this time with more attractive and stylish checks. I decided I would use my credit cards less and write personal checks more. Big mistake! My check-writing file is thin. According to Telecheck, with whom I became familiar on 02/12/14 when I attempted to write a 3rd check in one day, this time to OfficeMax for $20.62, it was declined. I contacted them and was told I present a high-risk because I don't write checks often and they have little information.

They said they would update my profile and I should not encounter any future difficulties. Then on March 12, 2014, I wrote 3 checks to my doctor, Meijer, and the 3rd check for $49.72 to CVS Pharmacy. It was declined. I contacted them again and was told the same as in February - thin file, high risk, etc. even though they said I don't have any criminal check-writing history and they know nothing about my bank balances. They advised me not to write any checks for 7 days, because they can't guarantee my checks won't be declined.

My complaint is I should be able to write as many checks as I want so long as I have the funds to cover. I have requested a copy of my Telecheck file. In the meantime, I will stop writing checks, use my debit card and/or credit cards once again and definitely steer clear of any merchants displaying the Telecheck symbol. Apparently, I am at the mercy of Telecheck, a company with a Texas mailing address - by the way, who outsources to the Philippines.

So of course I got upset. All this time I've been writing checks and have no problem. Only with Wal-Mart, Piggly Wiggly and Food Lion. I was at Food Lion! Anyway, I came home and called the number to Telecheck. The person on the phone was telling me that my check was declined because my identification didn't match my driver's license which sounded crazy. Then they ask for my information and like a dummy I gave it... If they use my information in any fraudulent way, they will be talking to a lawyer very soon. I have had no problems cashing checks with any other establishments and I can't even buy groceries and money was in my account.... but it's all good. The generic force-fed responses that are completely illogical: no history no checks... Tell me how someone builds history without writing checks.... makes no sense to me. I asked for a supervisor, the cs rep argued that they wouldn't be able to do anything else so why did I need a supervisor. I was getting very agitated at this point because I was totally embarrassed by having payment declined and going in circles with a broken record.

I go on hold at this point supposedly to speak to a supervisor who never came on but was "busy with other customers" and was asked to have them call me back within 24 hours. No call ever came. That Monday, I called again, supposedly updated my info; at which time I was told that I should be able to write checks within a day or two. Tonight, check denied insufficient history and declined checks within the last 6 days. How do they expect someone to build a history if a check is never approved? How do they have this much power to mess with others' hard earned money? How can they get away with total illogical business practices and ** customer service. Tonight supervisor was worse than the initial cs rep and when I asked for her boss was put on hold for ten minutes and hung up on. HORRIBLE!

This local business contracted the services of TeleCheck (based in Houston TX) to clear my local check. Upon contacting Telecheck, I found out that my payment wasn't refused for insufficient funds, It was refuse because neither I nor my financial institution was "registered" with TeleCheck. Until I registered, I was informed that no check, debit card, and credit card associated with this institution would be honored at this business. To register, I was requested all sort of Personal Information that, if in the wrong hands, could lead to Identity theft. I asked the TeleCheck personnel why they needed this and why local businesses were clearing local checks "out of state". I never did get an answer. I went to the local Burlington Coat Factory to get a few stocking stuffers that totaled $33.65. When the clerk ran my check through, it was declined by TeleCheck, without an explanation on the receipt for the denial. I have never written a bad check in my life and knew I had more than enough funds ($4,500+) in my checking account, so I asked the clerk to run it again, but it was again declined. You cannot imagine my embarrassment as the other shoppers standing in line stared at me, probably thinking the worst of me!

I went home and immediately called the number on the declined receipt. After several frustrating minutes of punching in numbers, I finally was directed to a customer service operator, who proceeded to ask me the same information that I had already entered in by punching numbers (Why not direct the caller to the operator in the first place to save time?). The reason given to me for the denial was that Burlington is not in my "normal" shopping pattern, so there was not a recent record of me writing a check there. TeleCheck declined my check to protect the merchant against possible fraud.

It took me a second to process this information. I questioned the operator about the flawed logic to this reasoning. Just because a person infrequently shops at a store should not automatically be an indication of fraud, especially if the person has adequate, proper ID (I had my driver's license and a military ID). I also pointed out following that train of thought meant there would be no way for me to establish a pattern of shopping there and paying by check because TeleCheck would continue to deny my checks... talk about a vicious cycle! The operator replied with what I could tell was a scripted response, so I asked to speak with a Supervisor, who continued with the same excuse of protecting the "merchant" against fraud. She did offer to approve my purchase if I immediately went back to the store, used the same check, and had the cashier contact her. I had already fought the holiday crowds for several hours today, so did not wish to waste more time and gas to return today. I was told I would have to start all over again if I went another time... How frustrating!!

I am amazed that this company holds such power using such a flawed policy. I am all too familiar with how rampant fraud is (we've had several instances of dealing with fraud on our credit cards), but isn't protecting the innocent consumer just as important as looking out for the merchant? I wonder how the people running TeleCheck would like it if they were singled out at the check-stand and had to deal with the embarrassment of having their method of payment challenged?

At Walmart I attempted to buy an iPhone priced at over $500.00. I wrote the check for the purchase and TeleCheck declined the check. Calling TeleCheck was futile as they said I must develop a history with them. So here is what I learned from this experience. If you have shopped for years at a particular store successfully and they suddenly decide to use Telecheck's services they will decline your check that they consider "high risk" because you have not established a history with them. This is circular reasoning which, somehow, makes sense to them. You cannot establish a history if they decline your transactions!

TeleCheck advised to visit Walmart with different accounts or cash???!!!?? The person on the phone talked a mile a minute and was impervious to my complaint and embarrassment as the check was declined in front of a group of other shoppers who viewed me as someone trying to pass a bad check. The account in question has thousands of dollars in it which, apparently, makes no difference to TeleCheck. Also, when I called them they requested driver's license number, SSN, date of birth, address, telephone number, checking account number, date of transaction, amount of the transaction and from that point on, I was stonewalled with incredibly stupid excuses and reasoning!

My advice is to complain to store managers that they will continue to lose sales because of a service they are using to prevent losses from bad checks and that same service is preventing sales by those with good checks and plenty of money in their accounts. To sum it all up, TeleCheck sucks badly and there is no avenue of recourse on their site or via phone.

I went to CVS to pick up my employer's medications as I usually do each month. He always Pays with a company check. His check was declined. CVS was in shock because they know me and that I do this monthly for him. I have worked for this company for 47 years. The company has excellent credit and never has written an NSF check, and I might say has some 10 bank accounts including a savings with Wells Fargo worth well over 1 million dollars in our various account (not including payroll). With the declined check, I was given a reference number to call TeleCheck. I did this, and had my employer on the line. We got no results. We were told that they did not have enough history on the company, and they could not assure us that this would not happen again. It could very well happen again. Not enough history....

I have been doing this purchase at CVS with the same account for years. We gave TeleCheck some of our old accounts that we had used, and they could not verify them either. We were told no history. I went back to pick up the medication prescripts, and was denied again. I had to pay with a credit card. My bank representative with Wells Fargo in Business Banking tried to help by calling TeleCheck. They would not even discuss it with him. I was given another reference number to call TeleCheck. At this point, I do not know what we are going to do regarding our purchases with CVS for prescriptions.

I plan to go on Facebook and tell this story and to anyone else who can get the word out about TeleCheck. I intend to not shop with any stores who are contracting with TeleCheck. TeleCheck needs to get their act together and report accurate information. I am very much aware that people do take advantage and write bad checks, but that is not the case with our company and there is no record of such. TeleCheck clerks who answered were talking so fast, with split English and foreign language that you could hardly understand them. TeleCheck probably hires cheap labor for their clerks to respond to these complaints. From what I have read online, my company is not the only company that has experienced this problem. I will be glad to furnish the proof of my declines. The consequences here are that nothing is resolved, I went two times to pick up the same medications and got declined two times. This is very frustrating.

The second time, my direct deposit had come in, and as of 9/9, it was paid. I accepted responsibility for being overdrawn, and the $36 fee to the bank. On 9/20/13, I see that I am overdrawn again! However, I haven't written any checks, and I checked on my account that day and I was okay. When I looked at my checking account, I saw $30 fee for ISF from Walmart, and another $36 fee from the bank. I could not understand why they waited for 11 days to add on a $30 fee, and the bank was charging me another $36 for the same check.

I went to the bank and they dropped the fee. I went to Walmart and they gave a 1-800 # for TeleCheck. When I called, a recorded voice directed me to either fax or mail my concern, with certain information regarding my checking account, social security number, my driver's license, etc, which I was very uncomfortable in giving out. I got online and started finding out more and more information about TeleCheck, and for the most part, it was negative. This is how I came upon this website, and began reading other people's complaints about the stores like Walmart, Sam's, etc, and what they went through.

The positive side of my experience is that I will not be writing any more checks. If and when there is a lawsuit against this company, I will have no problem signing my name to it or any other document, which is against companies like TeleCheck, which obviously have been given way too much power and control. On the other hand, the major stores who have contracted with TeleCheck's company may have done so due to people who are constantly writing bad checks, skipping out on paying money that is owed to these stores. Maybe, the stores are getting tired of being ripped off and of dealing with these people. The only problem is the people who have good credit, have not bounced checks, are being punished, as well...

My problems started on Sept. 14, 2013. I went to a Home Depot, making a very small purchase. Much to my surprise, my check was declined. I had the clerk run it a second time and it declined again. This is so strange since on Sept. 1, I made a small purchase at the same Home Depot and that check cleared. Anyway, I got home and made a phone call to TeleCheck. After 5-8 minutes of prompts and submitting all info related to my checking account, including driver's lic. number, I finally got to speak to a live rep, a foreigner to boot. What a shock! I had to repeat the same information.

Well, as it turns out the info on my credit union check was somehow linked to info at my hometown bank where I do not nor ever have had an account (The checking account that was declined I have had for over 25 years with no problems)! At the end of our conversation, the rep apologized and said things should be good in 72 hours. Time passed and I went to Walmart. Guess what happened? Yep, I was declined again. Now I'm pissed. So I go home and make another phone call, go through the same process and finally get to speak to a live rep, another foreigner. What are the odds! She insisted that I had a checking account at my local bank and wanted that account number to compare with the account number she had.

At this point I'm almost having a near death experience, which would have been easier to go through. After ranting with her about this, I hung up the phone. And then I'm thinking, did I really have a checking account at that bank? So I call the bank and they found no history of an account ever in my name. I never called TeleCheck again because I believe as long as merchants like Walmart and Home Depot have these outlaws do their business, this could very well happen again. And believe me; I have given them enough information that any identity thief would be happy to have.

What is most disturbing is that one of the reps wanted me to fax my social security card along with all other forms of ID. My bank was alarmed and told me this is not a good idea and that it sounds fishy. What's stopping these people from selling our account information to an identity theft ring. What better way to wipe out everyone's account. I have decided when I do my taxes, my return will not go into my checking account. I was also informed that it would do no good to get a new account at another bank. So the threat will always be over my head that my checks will not go through TeleCheck. My solution... go to merchants who don't have TeleCheck and who have more respect for the consumers right to privacy. They even told me that they can decline my check if there was a person with a similar name (I have a sister-in-law with the same name) or if your spending habits change, or if you shop somewhere new. How do they know where I shop?! How do they know my spending habits? If your checks are out of sequence they will decline.

I've been writing checks at Walmart for a few years. I usually spend 300 to 500 dollars a week at Walmart. About a month ago, my check was declined. Luckily I had enough cash on me. So I called TeleCheck and was told my information needed updating. If any problems in the future, just have Walmart to call them. Everything was fine for the next 2 weeks at Walmart. So I had made a purchase on Friday night for $439.56 and on Wednesday, had to go to Walmart to pick up some things. Was denied again. I told the cashier what TeleCheck said and was told they could not call TeleCheck. I would have to later and if I couldn't pay with another form, I needed to move on.

So I came home and called TeleCheck. They told me my bank wasn't open to verify the money was in the bank and to call back during regular hours. I call back and they verify my account. I was told everything was fine. I plainly asked them if I could write a check at Walmart now. Yes, I was told. So Friday I go to make my normal purchases for food for my daycare and guess what, I was declined. I was so mad that I left all the food at the register and was crying. My husband was with me and thought I was writing bad checks. This is so embarrassing when I have more than enough money in my account to cover my purchase.

I was writing a check because I lost my debit cards (which I have used there for the same account on many times) ... Check was declined. Knowing there was plenty in the account I had the clerk process it again... declined. I called my bank ... Same as a few others here my bank stayed on the line and we contacted TeleCheck... This is totally crazy. It was because I hadn't written checks and it was unusual activity ... I WILL NOT GO TO WALMART EVER AGAIN. In fact I will not use ANY BUSINESS THAT USES TeleCheck. I can only imagine what it would be like if I were to have been stuck on vacation and lost my debit card. If they are going to do this, then they should have a way to override the system.

My goodness, my checks are safer than a debit card because they HAVE TO LOOK AT MY ID. I know there is fraud that goes on out there but why punish everyone. I can prove who I am. What I will NOT LONGER BE IS A CUSTOMER OF WALMART or ANY BUSINESS THAT I KNOW USES TeleCheck. Thanks for allowing me the vent. Actually this could be considered discrimination... I think a class action suit would make a whole lot of sense. They can just be lucky that I was only there for groceries and not medication for a sick child.

Finally I went back to the bank and they had a way to contact someone and they told them it was just a mistake on their part. A MISTAKE really after embarrassing us in town and they say sorry it was a mistake, well that is not good enough for me! I will call every day until I speak to a real person, if they even hire people, and demand some kind of compensation for their stupid mistake! I will get a lawyer if I have to - this business should be shut down!!!

First you have to call to get a copy of the check.. then mail the payment back to them then call them back to see if they have gotten the payment.. then call back to see if you can now cash a check... Each time you have to wait from 20 to 48 minutes to talk to someone that may or may not be able to help you, then you have to call and wait some more (start all over)... Very bad business.... I say the world has gone to you know where.. No one knows how to do a job any more. It would be better to just pay the $35.00 at the bank if you have a returned check... Oh the bank never did find the checks that the Telecheck said I owed.. I paid $256.00 for #1 check $16.00 at TSC store, #2 Check $96.00... My checkbook has never went up that high check #** and #**... I am on check #** now... I went on and paid them so I can hopefully, maybe cash a check now.. I want now, tell I try next week... I was concerned that I had been a victim of identity theft because it was the holiday and the banks were closed. I pulled my credit report and there was nothing there. The next morning, I call this bank. They have no record of me anywhere by name or social. They were nice enough to stay on the phone with me while I called TeleCheck back to tell them that the information they had was not valid. They told me it was reconciled the same day I called but I asked for a manager because someone has messed up and this may mess up my payments that I use checks for auto-deduct. They told me I could not speak to a manager and gave me the run down on how things work. I do believe they need a lawsuit. I am going to look into it.

I've always been a responsible customer and wrote checks in good standing. I do most my banking with a community credit union. I have virtual no debt and use cash a lot of the time. I have a responsible job, and good credit history. Recently, I was denied two days in a row at a Meijer's store in southern MI from writing a personal check from my credit union for over three hundred dollars. The first time it happened, I had a full cart of groceries and after waiting in line for twenty minutes the store clerk told me my check had been denied. I asked why, and she couldn't tell me. I said, "I write checks in this store all the time, sometimes several times a week for two hundred dollars or more." I said, "I don't understand, I have plenty of money in my account, and I've never written a bad check." I asked to talk to a manager, and was told it wouldn't do any good, they couldn't override the TeleCheck system and accept my check.

Never mind, it was my day off from work, I was in the middle of canning pickles that afternoon. It took over two hours, to shop, wait in line, and get checked out, not to mention the driving into town, as I live out in the country. I could have gone to my credit union, and withdrawn the cash, but it was after 5:30 and they were already closed. I didn't have enough cash to get my prescriptions and bring them home that day. I was so humiliated, embarrassed and angry, not to mention terribly inconvenienced. To add insult to injury had to remove the items from my own totes I brought to the store so they could put the items back on the shelf, as other customers were watching in the check out lines.

After arriving back home, and telling my husband what had happened, we called the TeleCheck number to find out why the check had been denied, giving the code off the back of the check. An automated voice came on the line, and said, "Your check was not denied due to insufficient funds or a bad credit risk. It was denied due to a change in your spending habits/or my routine patterns of spending, and it did not meet their risk assessment guidelines set by the store, and the account was flagged for possible fraud." (I was trying to purchase extra items for canning which was about $75 more dollars than I normally spent per visit.) It was for that reason the check was denied. I was so angry! I could not believe what I was hearing. So, we jumped into the car and headed back to the Meijer's store to talk to a store manager.

After talking with the store manager, he was apologetic and helpful, gave us $25 for all of our trouble, and said he would have someone from the regional headquarters call us in a few days. The following day I again went to Meijer's and shopped for most of the same items I had tried to purchase the day before. Upon presenting another check, they once again denied it! Luckily, I had just been at the credit union and withdrew enough cash to pay for the items I needed. Calling the TeleCheck number once again, I was told, my recent purchase didn't match my prior shopping habits, and due to a high risk assessment, my check was denied. This was MADNESS!

The following day, someone from the Regional Meijer Headquarters called me, and argued that the reason TeleCheck was denying my checks was to stop possible fraud before it occurred, just in case there was a possibility that someone had stolen my check book. She said, wasn't it better that they caught it then, then not catching it, and that TeleCheck was actually doing me a favor by stopping the check before it was cashed, alerting me of possible fraudulent activity in my account. I was so angry! Meijer's isn't worried about protecting me from possible theft, fraud or illegal activity in my account, they are worried about it. I told her, "Your store is worried about a $300 dollar check, when I write $225-$250 checks all the time?" They should be more worried about losing thousands of dollars worth of sales revenue because we don't want to shop there anymore.

I told her, "It's unfair to shop at your store with the constant threat that your computerized checking system may or may not cash my check due to their statistical data that's been compiled on me based on my shopping habits." I am so angry over this. I could understand if I had a bad debt history, or a history of writing bad checks, or if there was even a huge increase in my checking activity, but none of this happened. If there is any class action lawsuit out there against TeleCheck, I would like to know, because this is just another example of warfare on the middle class. American citizens don't have to watch out about Big Brother watching us, we have to worry about Big Business watching us.

TeleCheck is now authorizing the funds from your bank account. If the salesperson/cashier from the store runs your check through the First Data machine multiple times, the money is temporarily taken out of your checking account multiple times, and then ISSUING CODE 3 DENIALS OF THAT CHECK. When asking Wells Fargo Bank when the Authorizations will drop off, they inform me when the check clears, or up to 5 weeks if the check doesn't run the ACH course through banking system. When I called TeleCheck to see about getting the funds de-authorized and put back in my account because they TOOK MY MONEY AND THEN TOLD THE MERCHANT NOT TO TAKE MY CHECK, they informed me that it would cost me $150 in processing fees to circumvent the standard procedure. When I got in the check-out line the cashier asked if I wanted to open a credit card with the store. I politely said no thank you and proceeded to write out a check for my $37 purchase. The check-out clerk then put my check into the check reader then told me “your check has been declined”. I couldn't have felt more embarrassed. I then asked if she could re-enter the check knowing that there was enough money in my account to purchase any item they had to offer in their store. Same response, declined.

I can't begin to tell you how I felt. I then asked to speak to the store manager. An asst. mgr. told me a story about how they changed their system, then said they have been using the same system for a long time which left me more confused than before our conversation. She told me I could call the phone number on the rejection clip they give you at the register. I called the phone number and they want all the numbers on your check, routing number, account number, driver’s lic. number, the works.

I’m not doing business with that company or making a transaction with them. I was doing business with Walmart. I later asked my wife if she knew of any reason why my check would not be accepted and she told me she went online to our banking institution and she said there was enough money in our account to buy a car. Who is TeleCheck? Are they owned by a credit card company? Debit card company? I was later told by my wife she did a little checking on them and found a class action law suit against them. Also they (TeleCheck) get paid by the amount of checks they deny. I don't feel this is legal.

I called the bank, and I had plenty of money in there to cover these small checks for under $10.00 each! So I called Telecheck, and they put a "Code 3" alert on my check writing capabilities! Why? Because they said I was writing too many checks! Who cares? What business of is that of theirs? If I have the money, I should be able to write as many checks as I want! I have never bounced a check in my whole life! Not once!

I am sickened by this! Someone really needs to do an investigations of this company! I may call the Wave 3 Troubleshooter in Louisville! I bet they would LOVE to do a huge news story on this! Over the past couple of months, after spending an hour or more shopping, waiting in line, then being presented my total at Check Out, my "good" checks have been DENIED! This is the 2nd time I have been denied by TeleCheck! I told Walmart to bill TeleCheck for having to re-shop ALL the groceries and I had to go to another large grocery retail store to re-shop all over again... and with NO problem. Our money will now be spent at stores OTHER THAN Walmart.

We called the company named TeleCheck and they DEMANDED the Spelling of my Name, my check's Routing Number, Checking Account Number, Phone Number, Address and Zip Code, etc. This is WAY too much of an Invasion of Privacy. As she talked, she sounded as if she might have been from India!

IF I, or any others of you, find money is being deducted from your personal checking accounts, I recommend keeping your Rejection Slips provided by Walmart as their accomplice... I am done shopping at Walmart. They have become way too invasive, irresponsible and consumer unfriendly, in MY opinion. I also noticed that Walmart does not seem to be carrying much healthier foods anymore and primarily mostly foods loaded with Chemicals, Fats, Salts, and Sugars. Healthy selections are becoming extremely RARE. Therefore, it dawned on me that the answer to paying for Healthcare should be paid for by the Grocery Retailers, Food Manufacturers... THERE is the answer to Health Care Costs being paid for!!!! Why are Politicians NOT working to help the People?????

I have NEVER had any bounced checks or any issues of that matter… However, in June 2013, when I made a payment of $101 by check to Nextel, I was denied (code 03). Nextel gave me Telecheck System # to call and have them remove me from "the list" since I checked with the bank and I was absolutely fine on the bank’s end and they saw no reason at all I should have been denied my payment by check. I called Telecheck multiple times. I was hung up on a few times when asked for supervisor, was given the runaround a few other times, and was told that I was "denied because Telecheck has no information on me." I asked what exactly does that mean.

I was told that I was not denied because of ANY NEGATIVE information or history, but because I had not used checks with their merchants (Nextel, Walmart, Kmart, Best Buy, Sam’s, Walgreens, CVS, etc) and that they are following "guidelines" and what I need to do is write more checks and in small amounts and over time it will build my history with them. I demanded they fix and override the system so this doesn't happen to me again, or else I will sue them since I am clearly discriminated against, targeted and denied for no good reason!! I am SHOCKED that they can get away with doing this. They are denying a person with good check history the usage of their checks based on NO GOOD REASON. I shouldn't have to build any history with them; all they should need is no bad history of a person!!

They are a third party company that should only have the right to interfere with you using your checks when you have a negative history, not when you don't... So basically, I was denied because I have never bounced checks. Unbelievable! They make their own rules and regulations to be able to easily discriminate against people (when they say "we follow regulation guidelines", they mean the guidelines THEY wrote about who they deny and why, not any legitimate federal regulations...). They are outsourced and counting on that to illegally deny people of usage of checks & discrimination. Something needs to be done about this. I will file with the Trade Commission against them and with the State Attorney General, and so should everyone else that has been denied/discriminated/ripped off by this company!!

They have hundreds of complaints against them for the same issues, and that's just the people that take the time to write the complaints. Imagine how many others are out there… They are in control of our checks, yet we have no business with them. Our business is with the bank and the merchant, and as long as we are in good standing with those two, Telecheck should have no right in denying my good checks!!! I found out they get paid based on the denial percentage, so that's why they deny without just cause and make up regulations to enable themselves to deny as much as possible, thus get paid more. It is predatory and illegal, yet they found loopholes to get away with it, and US, THE CONSUMERS, NEED TO STAND UP AND NOT LET THIS HAPPEN!!! I am furious!! Why is the Trade Commission - the Federal Agency that is supposed to regulate them allow these predatory & illegal business practices to take place and on such large scale??? Telecheck needs to be stopped from doing this!

Someone stole a check out of my check book and cashed it at the grocery store. I was in shock when I found out, but I thought the people would surely get caught because no one can cash a check without an ID; or so I thought. That whole idea really did not make sense either, but I still related an ID with a check. The bank told me it went through an electronic system and the people still had my check. This just made it worse, and I never imagined what I heard next. A grocery store manager told me that the person that stole my check did not need an ID. They just filled out the check, and it was put through a machine. The money was in the account, so the check is good.

Well, I think that expression will pass away soon. I am traumatized. This is my third day of waiting ten business days for the bank to give me my money back. The bank seems like a hero here, covering my rent and pharmacy check, but I don't trust them anymore. Maybe they are a part of this in order to sell more and more fraud protection. They are the ones that gave my money to a stranger, without proof of my permission. I wish someone could tell me that there is a way to find these people. I know the check was stolen out of my house so that narrows it down some, but not enough. I have to take better care of my checks from here on out, or I can just write money orders. I don't plan to shop in any stores that use this system.

I am still in a daze, my brain won't stop, and I cannot eat. What is happening to this world? It is not just a betrayal of trust, it feels much worse. I really think it is part of some scheme that will lead to banks to getting back much more than they will pay out during this phase. I have no plans of paying my bank month after month to protect me against fraud. They cooperated with Telecheck, and I plan on looking for a different bank. I don't feel secure with any more banks that push to get to the top.

She told me that I would have to call my bank tomorrow (Friday, March 15, 2013) when they open. I called my bank today. My bank told me that all my checks have cleared my account. I called Telecheck back to get the block off of my checks. I was told by a man that works for Telecheck that the checks did not clear for $210.00. I told him that my bank informed me that all my checks cleared. The man still refused to take the block off my checking account. I asked to speak with a supervisor. I was told that he was at a call center and no supervisor was available to speak with. He states that I would have to get my bank to send him the canceled checks. I do not appreciate Telecheck and the employers putting blocks on my checking account and refusing to take the block off even when the bank is telling them that my checks cleared. I feel TeleCheck's business practices are discriminatory against me and other.

I wrote a check at Sam's Club where I have been shopping for years and writing checks for years. I wrote the check on February 22, and last Friday I received a notice from TRS Recovery Services that I had an unpaid electronic fund transfer, and that I owed them the amount of the check plus $25. My husband immediately checked our bank statement and it showed that our bank paid the check on the 25th and then Telecheck sent the money back to the bank on the 26th. This is clearly a scam to get money out of people that they don't owe. I contacted the Sam's Club store where a woman in the finance department informed me that it was none of their business and that I needed to contact Telecheck and dispute the claim. She gave me a number, where you are given another number by an automated answering service.

I called that number where I was instructed to go to their website to file a dispute, yet when you go to the website, the only option is the file a claim of check fraud (which must include a police report, along with several other things I can't provide because this is not a case of a stolen check). I had to go to the internet to find a number to call to actually reach these people because they do not provide it themselves. I have more than enough money in my account for the original check and after reading the other complaints, I do not look forward to dealing with someone on the phone. I will give them one chance and if it is not taken care of immediately, I will report them to the BBB, my attorney general's office and my local TV troubleshooter.

It is a shame that so many businesses have chosen to allow these shoddy business people to treat their customers this way. Suffice it to say, I will never shop at Sam's Club again.

After reading all of the complaints, I see I'm definitely not the only one with this problem. I opened an account the first part of February. Other than bills, I have written only 5 checks to grocery stores, etc. Yesterday I wrote a check to Family Dollar and was declined. After making a ton of calls, I was told I was a risk because I had written too many checks since I opened my account. Duh, I haven't received my debit card, so of course I'm writing checks. I do not carry a lot of cash. I have tried a ton of numbers, and like everyone else says, you get absolutely no one to talk to. I have high blood pressure and anxieties, and things like this do not need to happen to me. I am furious. Who has the right to tell me how many checks I can write when I haven't written any bad checks? If I have the money in my account, then I can write checks. I am so tired of this world today, where people can dictate what we can and cannot do. I'm still furious and I want answers!

Being a customer of Sears for over 30 years and paying for purchases with my personal check, it took the teller almost 30 minutes for Telecheck to accept my check! How frustrating! This company needs to work out its problems and fast. I have never had a bouncing check and it was embarrassing to say the least. When teller tried 5 times to call the promo #, he said he couldn't get through. This company needs help or just go away and get a company who knows what they are doing.

Last month, I filed my income taxes via a certain online program that shall remain nameless, as I have done every year for something like the last ten years. The requisite charge for the use of said program was $19.95. It was not a problem... yet. At the time of completing my return, I was unable to locate my debit card (which I routinely use for everything) so I reached into the desk drawer for the checkbook, dusted it off and tapped out the routing and account number for an electronic check for this fee. Thus began the nightmare that is the essence of this complaint.

As I write so few checks (virtually everything I do is either debit card, direct deposit, or "bill payer" generated via my credit union), there really was dust on the checkbook. I generally keep a plenty thick buffer in my account to guard against things I might forget to jot down. In a departure from the norm, this particular time I failed to do that. The tax company presented my check and it was returned. My credit union smacked my hand and hit me with a fee. Having checked the account and seen this, I moved money into the account immediately. The tax company re-presented the item 3 days later and it cleared. No problem, right?

Wrong! Three days later, I started receiving twice daily mysterious phone calls from an "unknown" number. For the first few days, I did not answer as I do not pick up such calls. They were coming as early as 8:30 am and as late as 8:30 at night. Finally, I answered because I was tired of my phone constantly ringing. I was greeted with extremely rude people demanding to know if I was **. I asked who was calling and they refused to identify themselves. Since they refused identification, I refused to confirm who they had reached. They would hang up.

At one point, one person responded with "TRS." That led me to researching and finding out that "TRS" is the collections arm of TeleCheck. I found this website and we were off and running. A few more rude calls from them later, I found out that it had to do with this tax program issue. A call to the customer service department of the tax program confirmed that 1) they do use these bottom-feeders to collect on bad-checks, 2) I did not bounce a check and do not owe them any money, and 3) they don't have any record of my account being sent to TeleCheck/TRS. So, that begs the question, why am I even hearing from these incompetent criminals?

As if the harassment isn't bad enough, the most recent weird call from them that I got was them informing me that "my debt to TRS had been paid." Huh?! This was at nearly 9 o'clock at night. What kind of freaky outfit calls you to tell you that? Well, one that writes itself a check off your account, that's who. Utilizing the information off the electronic check presented to the tax company (account and routing number), TRS/Telecheck helped themselves to $25 out of my account, calling it a "return fee." They have my bank account information and, apparently, absolutely no respect for the law. What is keeping these crooks from cleaning out my bank account?

I am not denying that the item in question was initially returned once, but it cleared on the 2nd go-round and it was purely an accident. Now it has been 20+ years since I ** up my bank account accidentally or otherwise, but I have never been harassed and abused like this, especially over an amount of money that is probably less than the change in the jar on my dresser. I mean, really?

I have been saving up and looking for a TV for the past year. I finally found the make and model I wanted on sale at Best Buy. I negotiated a fair price for the TV and the surround sound system, including services & cables. When I attempted to pay via personal check, it was declined by TeleCheck. I spent half an hour in the store, on the phone with the company, and they essentially told me their policy was to reject checks for such a large amount, if they have no history of my prior check-writing past, even though I constantly write checks for utilities, rent, etc. I had over 10 times the amount of the check in my checking account alone and my income is in the high five figures - no outstanding debt or balances on my credit. It didn't matter. I had to apply for a Best Buy credit card, which was approved in less than one minute, with a maximum limit well over the amount of the check. I will never again do business with companies that use TeleCheck.

I went into my neighborhood Food Lion, where I have been writing checks for over 10 years, only to have the check declined! Imagine my surprise, when I just got paid that morning and my account had well over 1500.00 dollars in it. The cashier could not tell me why it was denied; and since I do not carry cash, I had to leave and go to the bank! I called the 800 number and all I got was an automated system that asks you for your account information, which they should already have, since they declined my check!

I can never reach a human being who can answer my questions. So suffice it to say, I will not be using my check card to give this company extra revenue; I will just be taking cash! Merchants wake up, you will be losing a lot of business because folks just don't carry cash anymore; and most debit cards add a charge when you use them! I guess I will be grocery shopping elsewhere!

My family and I went to a grocery store today on January 27, 2013. I recently tried to change my PIN for my debit card and was awaiting a new one, so decided to use a check. This store used Telecheck, which I have had no problem with before. Today, I was declined a check for $216.79. I had the funds in my account. I called TeleCheck and was told that "risk factors" proved to be the cause of my declined check. I couldn't get any more information than that, except that each purchase with TeleCheck is evaluated for risk factors including spending history. Who cares if I have spent that much money in the form of a check? Who has the right to evaluate each individual purchase I make? I had to return a full cart of groceries and tell my son that he couldn't have what he wanted until my new debit card came in.

Okay so we have been purchasing fuel with a check for a very long time and at the same place. We've never been declined nor have there been any reason to decline our check or us. Yet, today, husband went to fuel up and wham! He was refused or declined. The lady looked at him strangely, because she has seen him/us in there for a long time. And this was quite embarrassing. However, hubby had to leave. Lucky for him, he had twenty bucks to cover some fuel. I mean, really? Who are they to decide that we are a risk? We always have money in the bank, never carry cash, and never bounce checks. Yet they flagged us? Telecheck should be sued. I called the number on the back of the check. Guess what? All I get is a really fast busy signal like it's a bad number. I never get a ringing. This is a joke. I can't even talk to a person. So I have resorted to looking up other numbers for them online. I will hire a lawyer if it becomes necessary. I will not allow Telecheck (whoever they may be) to rub our good names in the dirt.
