I rarely write checks at stores. In this case the check was denied and I was given a slip of paper with an 800 number to call. This phone number led to a request to enter an 18 digit number which I did not have. That was not the denial number or the number of the checking account. I called the bank who said there was no problem with the account and who could not help me with the 18 digit number. Called Telecheck back and called their second number. After telling me she would not hang up on me she put me on hold with my bank again and hung up on me. The bank tried to help again but could find no problems there. There is a real problem with a business that can prevent you from doing business and refuses to help solve the problem.

I went in to pick up my dog at the vet after a dental procedure. The bill was $306. I didn't think it would be an issue considering that I have $5678.00 in my account at the moment. My check was DECLINED! When I accessed the website to see why... too much activity. Um, yeah. It's a checking account. Y'know, there are still folks who use their checking account to pay mortgages, utilities, vehicle payments, dinners out, etc. Who determines "too much activity"? Give me a break. I will never again utilize a business that uses Telecheck. So to businesses considering them ... consider again. Get a reliable source that will base a decision on funds available. So annoyed.

Essentially, I'm now going to have to wait an extra day for something to get fixed because I guess these guys will straight deny your echeck transaction just because you've never used them before (not having credit/history with them)? This is essentially what just got explained to me by the representative. I don't even think she did anything other than confirm information I had already given to get me "set up" with them and then tell me I can't have my information ran again until the system updates... tomorrow.
I'm sorry, but isn't the point of echeck supposed to be that it's *NOT* supposed to be "credit" dependent? It's supposed to be that the account gets hit, it either declines or approves, and then you carry on. I don't understand why I'd need to have established "credit/history" with someone that was just supposed to process an echeck from an account that had more than enough funding to handle the transaction. If you have other options as a business for processing echecks, I'd highly recommend going with someone else. This is the only time this has *ever* happened to me and I pay with echeck all the time.

At the beginning of February, I lost my debit card and canceled it then the post office lost the new one so now I'm waiting on another new one. Since then I've been having to write checks to pay for things. Everything was fine until last when Telecheck started blocking a my checks. Them people are idiots. When you call it's an act of congress in itself. When someone finally answers they don't exactly understand you and you can barely understand them since they are all foreigners. Then they only unblock the check you tried to write but will block every other check after that so you are continually having to call them. This is ** ridiculous. These idiots need to be shut down. Causing people embarrassment and emotional distress. If you lose your debit card and have to write checks instead, avoid Walmart all together.

Dear Public, Until 02/16/2021 I had never heard of this Telecheck Co. Sadly, I see my experience has been documented all too many times on this site for years. I am an elderly individual, like so many others, who has been writing good checks for decades. On 02/16/21 earlier in the day, I went to our local Food Lion store here in Powhatan Va. I have been shopping there for years using my Bank Debit Card or Cash. During this time, our power companies power was cut to our house for several days after a catastrophic Ice Storm. Another Ice storm was expected, so, I went to purchase essentials.
During this first visit, I put $89.00 on my Debit Card. When I returned home, I realized that I had forgotten the Grape Jelly and Cookies. So, I returned to the same store now packed with folks shopping before the next Ice Storm. When I got to the front of the long check out line, I realized that I had left my Debit Card in the Truck. Rather than go all the way out into the full parking lot and start all over again at the back of a long check out line, I decided to write a check in the amount of $8.89. This Check was declined Twice, I was being Totally Embarrassed, and Humiliated In front of my peers! I just have to say, every Fool knows that Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches are a necessity during any power outage! Come on, these guys declined a check for $8.89!
Of course, I got the same response as many of you, not enough information etc. Just who are these Parasites? Food Lion and TeleCheck should, in my humble opinion, should be publicly shamed for such egregious behavior! To decline a check written for any essentials during a Pandemic or Impending Severe weather event is morally reprehensible! For these two Business to decline a check for $8.89 during the above mentioned events, should illuminate for all just how truly pathetic they truly are!
As a result of my experience with this behemoth, I have had my Bank filed a complaint. I have also filed a complaint with the State attorney General's office as well as the Federal Trade Commission, Food Lion Corp. and TeleCheck. In closing, How many decades and hundreds of thousands of times shall people be embarrassed, and humiliated through no fault of their own??? Now is the time for Senate Hearings before The Federal Trade Commission. This abuse of power has to stop!!!

Telecheck is a mess, they're inept and closed on weekends and they shouldn't be. They're quick to take your check writing privileges and take forever to return your check writing privileges, it's terrible. You have to harass them to get anything done. Bottom line, telecheck should not exist, period.

I have been writing checks at most of my local merchants for over 25 years with the same account. Suddenly, I have had three checks declined in two days. I called Telecheck and got a rep who told me it was because I had used checks out of sequence. Why going from check number 2800 to check 3000 should upset them so greatly I do not understand, but he said he had cleared it up. The next day, I tried again to write a check at a different store. Rejected again. The reason this time? I have too many rejections!! So they can reject a check for no reason except some badly written/Big Brother statistic that is barely legitimate. Now according to them, I need to wait 7 calendar days to write another check. Which is making my life a living hell. So, someone tell me who we get hold of to take this poorly run company to court? There are more than enough horror stories about this company to take them down. It's time to start.

Telecheck presented a check to my bank which was paid. They then resubmitted the check to my bank as NSF resubmission. They are completely nonresponsive to information sent to them by me and by the bank, and are making me jump through hoops (getting copies of two months of bank statements because the first check was in Dec and the second in Jan) (writing a letter explaining the complaint and mailing it all with a copy of their letter to me). In the meantime, they have my $300 plus a $30 nsf fee for a total of $330 charged to my account in error. I've spent over six hours trying to resolve this with no luck.

I was using checks while getting my debit card replaced because it wasn't working. I wrote three checks in two days and the third check was rejected at a grocery store although the same store had accepted a check the day before. I asked why and was told it's because Telecheck rejected the check. So I called Telecheck and they said it was because my writing 3 checks in two days was not my usual pattern. That's true. I usually use the debit card but I was using the checks because I didn't have the debit card. So now I guess it's cash only until the new debit card arrives. Really annoying and inconvenient. The checking account had plenty of cash. I guess Telecheck thought the checks were stolen. Fortunately the grocery store manager let me have my $25 worth of groceries for the $20 I had in my wallet.

Needed urgent surgery for pet. Check was declined (I have THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS in this account). I was told that I did not have any debt history with Telecheck. The person said that I needed to have debt in order to gain history for future approvals. SO I HAVE TO GO INTO DEBT, OR CREATE SOME FAKE DEBT IN ORDER TO HAVE MY CHECKS APPROVED. I DON'T THINK SO!!!! This is nothing but a misuse of information and they get paid to reject payments so they look good to their customer, i.e. protecting them. Now I need to drive an hour to my bank, then another hour to the animal hospital, then another hour home. I don't use "plastic" for a reason. Each time you see a Telecheck sign you need to tell the business that they are being taken advantage of...AND will have less customers. I would think every dollar counts.

So I wrote a check out of a money management account to my veterinarian's office for my dog's dental. Check was denied TWICE, and there was absolutely NO reason for the denial. Am currently on the phone with this worthless company trying to find out why, and all I'm getting from this poor English speaking person is that there isn't enough check writing history on this account, which is why they denied it. WTH!
So I find out that the reason my check was denied both times was because they have no check writing history on me! So is that any reason to deny someone's check? It USED to be that a check was denied because of BAD check history, or no money in the bank to cover said check. I can see why there's all of the negative reviews now. I will make sure that I never write another check with someone that uses Telecheck for their check verification services.

I tried to use a check to pay for repairs to my vehicle to a shop I have used routinely for years, but always paid with cards. We decided to use a check this time, but the check was declined for not enough history. I called the hotline listed on the decline and after spending a lot of time going through an automated menu, I received a length explanation that either I wasn't in their system or it wasn't consistent with previous check writing habits. I pushed one to transfer to an operator. The agent essentially asked me questions straight off my check, so nothing that would actually validate my identity or provide anything useful. He then stated that checks would start having a higher chance of being approved in 7 days. I explained that I was paying for repairs to my vehicle and this needed to be approved now, or I might lose my job for not being able to get to work. He stated there was no way to override the system, and that I would have to wait the 7 days.
I was escalated to a "supervisor" who had nothing to say but I'm sorry, and there is no way to override the system. So essentially, if you plan on writing a check, you have to try and write a check somewhere 7 days beforehand so it can be declined and you can call and make sure you are good. Then they promise that "it's more likely to be approved." The company is ridiculous.

I shop at Walmart regularly at least 1-2 times a week, and my current checking account I have had well over 15 years. Back the end of December I tried to purchase $174 worth of groceries by check. I was declined. I knew there were plenty of funds. I went to the service desk to call Telecheck. After 45 minutes the supervisor reversed the denial and my groceries were purchased. Today, a Saturday I again went to Walmart to purchase groceries and my check was declined again. This time I got on my phone right there. The first time I was told I didn't write enough checks and this time I was told my check for $175.42 was excessive amount for me to write. I ask to speak with a supervisor as this had just started happening and it needed to be cleared up and the denial reversed. I could hardly understand her and there were no supervisors there to clear this crap up on the weekend.
Saturday my bank is closed and during the week they don't give out this customer information. After 45 minutes of getting nowhere. I was so upset and embarrassed. I even spoke to the Walmart manager. She told me it wasn't Walmart and I didn't have a bad check from looking a the denial code. She also said what gives Telecheck the right to tell you how much is excessive.
Telecheck is not a certified or governed company. They have no quality control and basically do what ever they want with no regulations. This is so wrong, a company with no supervision on the weekends can have this much power. I am glad to have found this site as I couldn't understand why this was happening to me. Also it seems like this could be a form of discrimination. I too will not shop at Walmart until they either regulate Telecheck or get rid of them. And it is Walmart that is letting this bad behavior thrive. I will be speaking with an Attorney as I am so very tired of being taken advantage of by unscrupulous companies.

My kids were ashamed and we were definitely looked at wrongly not to mention to the already stereotypical looks we get being a ** family with our natural hair. This must stop and we need to do better as human beings. We cannot let computers and others mistakes and misdeeds to control the outcome for everyone else. If they "the system" can decline a check for no good reason, who is holding them accountable?

Hardly don't take that much cash with me except for gas or etc. When she told me my check was declined, I felt like people were looking at me like I was trying to pass a bad check, never have bounced a check. I knew I had enough funds. So I called Telecheck and I never really got a reason why I was flagged. Except I think they were telling me I HAD WRITTEN TOO MANY CHECKS THAT MONTH. Which is laughable. It's my money. The guy said to wait 7 days and everything will pass. I went to another store and purchased some things using my check, and it was perfectly accepted. I called them back to tell them I believe they had a faulty system. I won't shop at Peebles again, I have heard the same complaint with the same issue there.

When we called Telecheck they said that our last check was for $4000 to the State of Michigan (employment taxes) and that this check was rejected because it was so much less than the last check. So I guess if we had spent $4000 at a GROCERY STORE our check would have cleared. They said we didn't have enough history to clear this check. I had this terrible experience with Telecheck. It seems that many of companies in the US are using their services to verify payments by checks. I read many comments here of frustrated Americans who were turned down by Telecheck. For me, I wanted to pay for a device at Best Buy. The total including the tax was $1059.99. My checks are promotional checks that are linked to my credit card account, not to my checking account. When the clerk passed the check through their machine, it was rejected and a note from Telecheck was printed on the reverse side of the check. So I asked the clerk who is Telecheck and she didn't have any idea. I called Telecheck on the number provided by the note.
Auto recorded message asked me to key in the reference number provided in the note, then my zip code. Another message said something about blocking the transaction due to fears of fraud. So I carried on to talk to human representative. A thick-accented lady answered the line and after verifications she asked me if I listened to the message before talking to her. I said yes I did but this is not correct because I am not a fraud person, I can provide verifications as much as you need, but she said there is no way to move on with my payment and I should wait some time I don't remember how long exactly before I can try again. I became so upset and asked to talk to her supervisor. She transferred me to a supervisor, another thick-accented lady.
She said there is no way to accept that check now and I must wait for that time which I don't remember exactly how long before I can try again. I suggested to her that she calls my bank which is Bank of America to verify that the check is legit and not fraud, but she strongly refused. I asked her where she is at, and she said she is at the Philippines. I asked her why a Philippine company is doing money business for companies in the US, and she became upset and rude and forced her way out of the conversation and hanged out on me. I asked to talk to the store manager at Best Buy, a person with little skills of customer service who rudely turned me down again.
I mean how can I be a fraud person walking in a store with many security cameras and identify myself to the system through my Best Buy online account? Isn't it not logical for me to try such an easy job for the police to catch me if I was fraud? Still, the store manager has no solution to offer. I hereby would open invitation for anyone who would like to join me to file a lawsuit against this Telecheck and any US-based company that keep using their services even with many customers complaining. I can't do this lawsuit by myself. I need support from people who were turned down by this company while they had legit checks.

My daughter's credit with Golden1 Credit Union has been applied to my account (she has insufficient funds) and bingo they apply her insufficient funds rating to my BofA account. We "both have the same initials" per the customer service rep. There is no way they should be able to transfer someone's credit to my account, let alone from a Credit Union account. Bottom line, they have "cleared my account but don't use it for 72 hours" and in 30 days they will send me a letter explaining what happened. My letter to them is in the mail with a copy to Bank of America and Golden1 Credit Union.

To make a long story short, my debit card was compromised a few days back and my bank cancelled it before I was able to withdraw my money. I therefore tried to wire money to myself via either Western Union or MoneyGram using my checking account information so that I could get cash, but I kept getting errors with both services. After verifying that everything was ok on my bank's end, I then found out from both companies that they used a 3rd party company called Telecheck in order to process payments. I then received a number to contact them directly to resolve the issue. It was then when the representative informed me that my transactions had been declined due to lack of history processing funds using my checking account with this service... What?
So what they're basically saying when someone has an emergency (which services like MoneyGram and Western Union are often used for) for the first time, their transaction is automatically rejected and they're basically screwed? Where's the logic in that? To put icing on the cake, the representative informed me even after I verified everything with her, it would STILL take SEVEN days before this would be reflected on their system! What good does that do someone who needs emergency funds?! I'll have a new debit card mailed to me by then.
It's insane to me that in the computer age it takes that long for something like this to process. No logical explanation as to what the holdup is was ever given to me. Basically because of this one 3rd party company that apparently many companies like to use I literally have no money for so much as a can of soda until my new debit card gets mailed to me... Let's not even get on the subject of bills that will now be past due.

Being that we moved from Illinois, I gave my account from there and they said we didn’t establish anything there either (even though we wrote all kinds of checks at Walmart). I had a check denied at my local Food Lion, last night. After going through automated prompts for 20 minutes, I was able to get a human on the phone... However, I could not understand anything he said! I asked him several times, in different ways what the explanation was for my check decline. I never got anything except I didn't have enough history with them. I have had this account for 15 years! I have had a returned check that was paid a few months ago and a month later, had the same experience. That time though, I was told my account was cleared and there should be no further issue with my account. So, needless to say, I was not only perplexed as to the denial but embarrassed at the checkout line as well. I spent close to 2 hours shopping for groceries, only to be denied, without any resolution.
What really concerns me here, is the rep continually asked for all of my account information, who else was on the account and get this... WHAT MY CHECKING ACCOUNT BALANCE WAS!!!! I asked why he needed this information and got crickets. He did go on to say "we want you to continue writing checks to build your history". This made no sense, I said. So, you want me to shop, get declined so I can build a history? No thanks! I will just find grocers that DON'T use Telecheck. I am contacting Food Lion corporate and letting them know of my experience and my reasons for boycotting their establishment for the 1st time since 1983. My first order should have arrived on Friday. I placed my second order, for the item that had mysteriously been unable to be processed and several other items and lo and behold again part of my order was flagged. I called Amazon and they would only give me the phone number for Telecheck. Calling Telecheck I found out they had decided via their computer algorithm that since I had tried to cash multiple checks in a short time they would mark some of them as fraudulent.
I only placed one order each day. Amazon had broken each order into multiple charges. When I explained this to them they said there was nothing they could do everything was handled by the algorithm. Talking to a supervisor I finally got them to say they would update my account so this does not happen again however it will take over 7 days to update their system. 7 days! They admit that humans have no control over the process and it's entirely done by computer. If it's entirely done by a computer how can it take that computer 7 days or more to update? I rarely use checks. Due to being in a different town that did not have my bank I was forced to write a check at Walmart or incur ATM fees. I don’t pay ATM fees so I chose to write a check. I confirmed the store accepted checks. Did my shopping and check was denied. I called the TeleCheck number and after about 20 mins of runaround the final verdict was my check was denied due to no history. No history. I was denied because they didn’t have any information. None which also indicates there is no “bad” information but they refused to accept my check.
I had 4 teenage boys that weekend. Had worked 5 days that week and had to work yet the next morning. I live an hour from the Walmart I was at and the one I usually go to was an hour and a half away with another half hour drive home. There was no leaving without those groceries. Because my bank was closed TeleCheck could not “confirm” the funds for the check was available even though I could have and did offer to send a picture of my current at that moment account balance which covered the amount of the rather large purchase 10 times over. TeleCheck refused. Then while I was at the ATM incurring fees I haven’t paid in 15 years I missed a call from them. I returned the call. Went through the long arduous process of their automated system again to be told they verify the phone number given is accurate for collection purposes.
So not only did they deny me paying by check they followed it up making sure they could certainly contact me in the future without my permission. This experience is without words and because of Walmart use of them I will never step foot in Walmart again. I have never floated a check. Never bounced a check. Never been overdraft nor do I incur any “banking fees”. There was simply no reason to deny my use of a check and the reason given that I was denied because I have never used a check at Walmart isn’t logical whatsoever. If everyone was denied the first time then no one would be able to use a check.

It would not give me any reason why it is denying my checks for processing until I give them (in the Philippines): Name, birth date, Social Security number, names of all banks where I hold accounts, account numbers and routing numbers of all banks where I hold accounts, bank statements sent by fax, address and phone number.
BEWARE. This is a debt collection company out of Houston, Texas also named TRS Recovery Service Inc. and FirstData (www.firstdata.com). Telecheck told me that it pays vendors directly, (per the approval codes on their receipts). Telecheck deposits our checks into its accounts and sometimes it does not draft out accounts. It just leaves our accounts alone, then denies all future checks written. On checks that it pays, it holds the amount of the check and adds a $32.48 fee in the State of Texas to the total bill. I have been writing checks for years, we had an ID theft 5 years ago and 3 years ago. It has been a nightmare. I have no debit card or credit cards because of the theft, so I always make sure I have cash on the weekends, but when I go to the store I always write a check with no problem... until this year. I wrote a check at Meijer and it was cleared. Went to Walmart and it was denied, called same as everyone else play the auto system and then no one speaks English. Only exception I was told I had to wait 21 days! Well this has been ongoing for all of 2017, everytime it denies I get a long printout on the back of the check and a number to call. Well this must be TeleCheck latest scam. 2 months ago I was denied and it printed the check like it would be deposited with no code no explanation, I called and of course no idea and so on. Later that week my check that was not accepted cleared the bank!!! For 358.00!
Well my daughter was with me and she paid with her debit card and I paid her back, I called TeleCheck and they have no record of a check clearing, I am still waiting on that $$ back. Tonight I got to Meijer’s and the same!!! No explanation. Just hands me my check back and says they need another form of payments. I told the cashier that I needed a manager and I explained to them my last encounter this had happened, mind you I have written 3 checks with no issue at the same Meijer. I told the manager that I needed confirmation that the check would not clear my account, she said, “Oh it was denied, it won't!” I said it was not denied, it said another form of payment needed, so I pulled out my phone and the last check and said, “Here is where it cleared my bank and here is the check. I want it cleared!” She said, “Oh I never ran into this!” I said, “Yeah well first time.”
So tonight I had no other form of payment and I told her I needed to know that this will not clear my account! She called the store manager and she said it won't clear if it’s denied. She said it wasn't denied. The manager asked, “What is the problem?” Then, she said, “Can you please come down and I will so you.” She said, “No it was denied!” So here I sit no groceries and let's give it a few days and see if this one clears! I am so over TeleCheck. I am checking into a lawsuit over this!!! They still owe me 358.00 and now probably 293.07!!! Meijer STOP USING TELECHECK OR I WILL GO ELSEWHERE!

I called the bank and the check was never presented for payment as there were sufficient funds to cover the check. I promptly went to Best Buy and paid the check off with cash, received the check back and called their 3rd party processor, Telecheck. I was unable to understand the operator as her communication skills left much to be wanted. The bottom line was they decided, without checking to see if the money was available, to deny acceptance due to some obscure reason which was never given. I always use credit cards or cash. I only write checks for bills that are paid via mail (like Visa, Windstream, AT&T, DirecTV, electric and water, etc.). On this particular day someone had illegally tried to access my Visa card and Visa notified me immediately and explained that they were cancelling current card and within 24 hrs I’d have my new card. So to purchase farm supplies at Tractor Supply I had to write a check. No problem. This is a small town and everyone knows me BUT check is refused. Tractor Supply tries to solve problem and can’t. Bank is down the road, so I go down the road and write a big check at bank’s suggestion in case I need to write other checks while waiting for new Visa Card. Bank explains problem to me: it seems telecheck refuses checks for lack of "data". Since I rarely use a check at a store there is no record of my check cashing and so I’m refused.
I asked bank how you get a record for writing checks if no one is allowed to accept your checks. Bank laughed and said that had several employees with same problem. That Telecheck does NOT deal with the banks. It’s got its own system. I phoned telecheck and raised heck with person with very strong Indian accent so hard to understand her. She said telecheck had NO data on me and that was my problem but she would put me current bank info on my record and that in 7 days they would take my checks BUT I had to go to work and write lots of checks so as to build up my data record for them. Idiocy. I use credit card or cash 99% of time. Would write a check only on special occasions. It is not logical for me to start writing checks JUST to build up a record for Telecheck, whom I don’t know and don’t want to know.

Prior to this year, I have written many checks with Office Max, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Bed Bath & Beyond and other stores that currently use Telecheck and not had any problem. I have had the same checking account since 1994, have written numerous checks at various stores, and have not ever bounced a check. Anyway, it all started back around January or February this year when I wrote a check at Best Buy - I write a check once a month there in the past, and this time I was declined. I figured it was a glitch in the system and let it slide. But I try again at a different Best Buy about a couple of weeks later - same thing, check declined. I called the number that I was given, and after dealing with a plethora of "press 1 for this, press 2 for that", then nothing but elevator music... The line goes dead!
I wrote checks at Bed Bath & Beyond and Office Max - declined again! I call again and wade through the automated menus, then I got a representative who then tells me to wait seven calendar days before writing a check. I was told something about my checks faintly resembling something that was used in a fraudulent transaction and something about insufficient data regarding my checking. I follow the instructions, write a check at Best Buy - it went through! I figured that was the end of my troubles - nope.
Somewhere in late June or early July, I write a check at Best Buy, and the device for reading/printing on the check at the register kept fouling up. The cashier tried the number and whatever... Yep, declined. Again, I call them up, and I get the same load of malarkey about insufficient data, fraudulent transactions, wait seven calendar days before writing another check. I try once more a little more than a week later, and my check clears.
And today (August 27), I write a check at Bed Bath and Beyond... What did I get? If you guessed "check declined", you are right. That is it, I have had it with these clowns who wouldn't know fraud if it walked up to them and punched them in the face. Until Telecheck gets their act together, I am no longer writing checks at any store that uses that system that is majorly FUBAR (Fouled Up Beyond All Relief).

I am really sad that Amazon does business with a company with such terrible reviews and seems to arbitrarily decline your payments if you use your banking information. Long story short, our bank's ATM had eaten our debit card, and we were waiting on a replacement that took several days. In the meantime, we had some household supplies we ordered from Amazon using our bank account and routing number. 2 of the 4 orders went through without a problem, but for WHATEVER reason Telecheck felt it necessary to decline the other 2. They weren't the 2 highest or 2 lowest amounts either, so we really can't see any reason for them declining. It has caused such a headache for us and if I could give them zero stars I would.

I cannot believe or accept Telecheck's policy. I had just previously purchased items for my niece (for college) at Bed Bath and Beyond for $200.00. I went across the street to Best Buy to purchase her a computer. The total amount was $1218.34 and I submitted my check and was told that my check was declined. I called customer service and was told that due to the amount being substantially larger than the previous check written and my check writing history did not show any large purchases (even though I had written a $860.00 check in June), my check was declined. I am truly thankful for monitoring mechanisms being put in place for possibly fraudulent activities but why not have some type of verification system setup (just in case it is not fraudulent).
I was told that I would have to wait 7 days before I could write another check. I tried explaining that my niece is going away to college and I did not have 7 days to wait. I asked to speak to a supervisor, she transferred me to "Bob". He told me the same information. How can a major company not have anything in place to override or verify information to prove a legitimate purchase. I just feel like my rights have been stripped (not being able to do anything about it). I am not prejudice but when you contract your business out of the USA, you have people that only goes by a script and have no compassion or emotion to empathize. WHAT A HUMILIATING EXPERIENCE!!!

As a business, we tried to write a check at Best Buy and it was declined. When I called Telecheck with the reference number I was told we were declined because we had not written checks at BestBuy before. This is incorrect, I have written many checks at BestBuy just not since they integrated the Telecheck system. Telecheck was able to see all my checks written to Sam's Club, Walmart, and a few other stores that use Telecheck in the last two months. I was told to wait 7 days and try again since now we should be established by then. I explained we are a roofing company and have deadlines and weather we are working against. I can't use a company credit card because BestBuy will not accept the card if your name is not on it. I tried going to another place to purchase but before I even walked in I saw the Telecheck sticker on the door. I didn't even bother to walk in.
We have had our checking account for 20+ years write ten of thousand of dollars out to suppliers but can't write a couple of hundred out because we aren't established in their systems for the store. I could at Sam's or Walmart or any other store I have written check to recently but they don't carry the items I need. Telechecks customer service is awful and they are reluctant to get a supervisor on the line which really doesn't matter. They can't do anything but apologize and say, "I understand." I noticed they are an affiliate of First Data, those credit card processing son of a **, signed us up to take credit card payments and I have been trying for 4+ years to stop their merchant charges ($43.64/month) in our bank account since we were never able to use their services.
But First Data and Telecheck are like the beach. Seems like a great idea but once you are no longer blinded by the initial "this is going to be great" feeling you realize you will never be rid of the sand. So back on track, if I have never written a check at a merchant (or since they have gotten Telecheck) they are going to decline my check then make me call and establish an account for that merchant then wait another 7 days and try again. However my check may still be declined.
So if I am out of town and have to go to the Emergency room and they use Telecheck, does this mean I will have to go through the process of being declined, calling to establish the account, then return in 7 days and hopefully be approved and not dead. According to the supervisor at Telecheck there is no way around their system even if I broke the bill down and wrote checks to the merchant $10 at a time so I just have to die. Telecheck says they are out of Texas. However all the individuals I spoke to (CSR all the way up to supervisors) had an Arabic accent. Not one Texan in the bunch. This determination was based on information provided by TeleCheck Services, Inc. ("TeleCheck"). To protect your privacy, TeleCheck did not provide any financial information to Amazon.com during the authorization process. We will need to receive valid payment information from you within 2 days. Otherwise your order will be canceled." What the holy hell?!?
According to my bank, they have never even RECEIVED any of my cancelled orders from Amazon and have zero record of me ever having made any orders and that there is ZERO reason that my bank would deny me buying anything with my own money from my savings account! Calling Telecheck was an absolute nightmare! None of them speak English well enough to even be understood, and what little they did know, they repeated ad nauseam. They all demanded my routing and bank account numbers, like I am stupid enough to give them any of that. And then got angry when I refused to give it to them and hung up on me!
So after 5 calls today, I'd had enough. I thought I would call Amazon instead. Big mistake! Apparently, Amazon is going the way of every other failed business, in hiring these overseas idiots with strong accents that claim their name is 'Bob' or 'Steven', when you know for a fact, that is bullcrap. But, okay. After 15 minutes on the phone with the Amazon Asian, she informed me that my best course of action would be to talk to somebody from... wait for it... Telecheck!

Needless to say after having dealt with them previously regarding a fraudulent check I got the same ridiculous answers as I had gotten years ago, (check doesn't meet parameters, we have to update your file, you don't have a history, check amount meets high chance for fraudulent activity). It took a horrendously long time with their customer service menu, and representatives with very poor English, to finally determine that the reason was that I do not have a check-writing history with them. There was nothing whatsoever wrong with the account (held for decades), or my ample balance, just that they had never had to verify one of my checks in the past. The logic is appalling - does this mean they deny every single check that is the first one that comes in from an individual? I have asked my grocery store to stop using them; I don't know whether that will be successful, but I will definitely ask in the future.

Went to grocery outlet and write a check for 46.50. I had checked with the bank and plenty of funds. It was rejected and called the horrible company Telecheck. They said it was fraudulent and that I usually don't write checks. The rep ran a script nothing I can do considering my credit is rated excellent. Wtf the manager at grocery outlet was of no help so the next time I see a shoplifters you can bet I'm gonna look the other way. Hope it was worth it. I then went to Fred Mayer and they took a check no problem.

My husband was paying for his intended purchases at a store, a store we have used for years, and with a check from a checking account he has had for 25 years, writing literally thousands of checks. The transaction was not allowed to be processed on the basis that Telecheck provided information suggesting the store could not trust the check. He called Telecheck while still in the store, asking what this was about as we have not had a problem like this before. The person he spoke to consistently mispronounced his name (Gus) every single time he addressed him, and also called him "Ma'am" repeatedly. He in no way sounds feminine so I can only assume that either the person he spoke to was purposely trying to anger him, or they were literally not intelligent enough to realize that they were making the same mistakes which he corrected them on each and every time it was made.
The employee told my husband that as far as he could tell there was absolutely nothing wrong with the check, and that the decision to not accept the check was based solely on the establishment he was trying to make a payment to. The only comment being, "Well you have made a lot of transactions." Which if he had looked at the accounts information, yes that's true. In fact that's been true for the entire 25 years, as this is a joint checking and business checking account, and numerous transactions take place nearly every day.
When asked to put the check through, since he said there was nothing wrong with the check, my husband was told that the check could be cleared in 7 days. There is absolutely no reason the check should have been declined, other than some contrived notion that Telecheck came up with based off of who knows what. The fact that while we had written checks many, many times in this very store, we hadn't written a physical check there recently? Despite the debit card associated with the account and the checks themselves being used there bi-weekly for the last few years? Right, that makes sense, wait no it doesn't. To further enrage us, the person he spoke to never did come up with a good answer as to why the check was declined, and kept blaming the store itself.
This entire process took an hour, in front of a store of people, creating not just embarrassment, as he was made to look bad by the store and Telecheck combined, but also a huge waste of valuable working time. He came home, and I then called Telecheck myself. I was asked to push in the digits on the phone according to account numbers, etc., some of which I was asked to repeat again after a few questions, for no apparent reason, as I had already confirmed that the numbers I provided were correct, it took an unreasonable amount of time, and for all my effort all I got out of the automated account was that the decline was not due to a debt associated with the account. Well, duh. I knew that when I called in, but of course, no other information was available.
So, long story short, Telecheck for reasons best known to apparently no one there, decided to decline a check during a busy work day, causing my husband to have to go to another store to write a check for parts there instead of the store we have made hundreds of transactions at in the course of just a few years. Telecheck blamed the store, store said Telecheck handles it all and they were not responsible either. Complete joke.

I was purchasing my husband's birthday present and forgot my debit card. The store accepted checks so I wrote a check and it was declined by TeleCheck because I did not have enough history with their service. I asked him to verify funds with my bank and they refused because they are not affiliated with any bank. They stated I did not have a history of writing checks at that store, but this was my first time here. I stated that we use checks often for paying our bills and our account is 10 years old. How are we supposed to develop a history if they refused to approve our checks? They could not answer this. After horrible customer service, I had to go to the ATM to purchase my husband's birthday present and it puts such a kink in my day and was completely unnecessary.

I went to Home Depot to pay for a rather sizeable door installation project (around $1,600). My father is disabled, so I was doing all the footwork for him, including giving them a check he wrote for the total amount. Telecheck denied the check, and after much back and forth and calling, it was determined the reason was that my father didn't "have any history with Telecheck, therefore they couldn't accept a check for such a large amount". My father has been using checks since the 1960s. He's had the same checking account since probably the 1970s. He's written checks much larger than that, and never had any problem. And now, this third-party company decides to arbitrarily say that he's not 'trustworthy' enough because he's never used their service before?
The employees at Home Depot were very apologetic and informed me that this happens a lot. Thanks to Telecheck, Home Depot may have lost a $1,600 job, because the only other option is for me to carry that amount in cash, which is never a good idea. To all companies who are using Telecheck - you are losing business with every valid check they deny. Drop them fast.

Apparently, Amazon processes bank payments through a third party Telecheck Services Inc. that frequently rejects payments without cause and then immediately forwards them to their collections agency. This is not disclosed by Amazon in their payment options, by representatives when directly asked, or anywhere else in the process. In my case while making a recent Amazon order, 2 items were declined, while 9 others in the same order went thru, all with the same banking information. They could not explain why they declined these and within 10 minutes of the Amazon purchase it had been referred it to Telechecks counterpart collections business TRS.
Having sufficient funds in the account and providing the correct information, I'm not sure why two relatively small items, both under $20, out of my order were rejected, or why these would be referred to collections minutes after placing the order. Personally, I've spent many hours trying to resolve this with Amazon and Telecheck-TRS to no avail, like hundreds of other before me and sadly hundreds more to come.
Amazon is seriously negligent in providing proper disclosures - failing to identify this third party billing relationship with Telecheck Services Inc, and is unwilling to resolve issues that arise with it even when there is no customer error or fault. In trying to identify what company is ultimately responsible in order to make a complaint, there is actually a nest of companies involved: Telecheck Services Inc, TRS Recovery Services Inc, and First Data Merchant Services Inc. None of these 3 companies are accredited businesses with the Better Business Bureau and multiple addresses appear for them. Extensive customer complaints attest to a common experience of rejected payments without cause and then being charged multiple times by these different parties.
Consumers have to spend many months and hundreds of hours on the phone, responding to written requests and faxing information only to be told contradictory information. What's most disconcerting are the numerous reports of people being repeatedly asked to pay arbitrary sums even after confirmation of payment by all parties. Shame on Amazon for partnering with such businesses. Beware of Amazon's bank payment option, which is thru Telecheck Services and TRS.
Amazon must fully and clearly disclose this third party billing relationship with Telecheck-TRS up front to customers, clearly provide the business name and pertinent details such as contact information, security safeguards for customer financial data, as well as provide adequate and prompt means to resolve their processing issues.
It's important to file complaints with your state consumer protection agency, attorney general, and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), as well as the Better Business Bureau (BBB) to ensure these unscrupulous, disreputable business practices are not allowed to continue. Contacting your State representatives and congressional reps to share your issues and concerns may also help pressure these businesses into greater accountability. Good luck avoiding Telecheck Services. Definitely do NOT choose banking payments with Amazon or you'll have to deal with them.

That's funny I just wrote a check for prescriptions in the same store and it went thru... Now my check for groceries won't. GIVE ME A BREAK... I am so tired of this that it isn't funny. I want to hire an attorney and get these people taken down. This is so outrageous. So go to the debit card that is connected to the account and lord and behold!!! GEEZ WHIZZZZ it took. Funny how the debit card goes thru but my check won't. On to the next store. Dog Food and toys. Hmph!!! Won't go thru. Then on to Best Buy. Trying to buy a new TV. TOLD AGAIN!!!!
I have had it. Walk across the street to the drive up and I get cash instantly, then go back to Best Buy and give them the money. They just stand there looking at me, like what the hell!!! I am so tired of this outfit denying me and telling merchants that don't even know me I don't have any more money and I am a bad person. Like hell I am... I have the money in the account. Don't tell me I can't write a check. Someone needs to do something. I am tired of being turned down, and tired of the embarrassment. What kind of an outfit is this place. Since when can someone or something tell me I can or can't write checks. Why even have a bank account if this is what they do. Then I go to my bank and make a complaint, and I am told, well must be their machines, must not be talking to our machines??? WHAT??? The banks don't care either???
What has this world gotten to or become. I work for a living, earn somewhat a decent wage and pay my bills and have never written a bad check in my life, so leave me alone!!! Just because someone else might have the same name or whatever, it isn't me... Call telecheck and get told, well to many checks have been written for that fraudulent amount and it isn't the norm for me to write that amount in checks. We failed to inform the merchant that you do not have a claim on file. What the heck. If I want to write a check for a certain amount of money and I know I have that much, I am going to write it, I am not stupid and they do not have the write to deny me or refrain me from writing it. This company or whoever they are needs to be taken down and for all the hurt and pain and embarrassment and bad check amounts I am long overdue to a reimbursement. I just heard about this company today for the first time. At first I thought they were a good company that exists to prevent fraudulent transactions, but after what went on between me and them, I believe the company itself is the fraud. I tried to send money to my family through MoneyGram services online and used my checking account information. I tried several time but I kept getting the same message, that my banking information couldn't be verified, so I called MoneyGram to find out what was going on. That was when I heard the name Telecheck, I was told that Telecheck had to approve my transaction before it could go through. I called Telecheck and they told me that my transaction were being held back because I have a short check writing history. First of all it is not true that I do not write checks, I write checks all the time to my land lord to pay my rent.
Secondly, I wasn't even writing a check, I was doing online transactions using my checking information. That is different from writing a check. But that is not even the point, these people blocked my transaction and couldn't let me complete my transaction. I do not know them, I do not bank with them and I am not purchasing anything from them. I don't know why they are able to have access to my account information in the first place. I am pissed right now, and I can't wait to talk to my bank about this. I don't know how a fraud like this is even allowed to exist.
The most insulting part of it is that I was told they could approve my account only after one week, REALLY AFTER ONE WEEK??? Who are you? The lady told me they believed it could be a risk to me, yeah I get that at first, but you are talking to me now. I have gone through this several times with my bank with big purchases and other online transactions, but they would allow my transaction to go through after talking to me. Something has to be done about this fraud that calls itself Telefraud. I checked on Google Reviews and there are over 20 reports, all negative about this company. Again, I don't know why they are even allowed to operate with such overwhelming negatives.

Of course I knew I would go over $5.09, but knew I was covered. I don't use it very often but it's there if I need too. Anyway Walmart/TeleCheck sent the check through 1 time my CU refunded my fee their CU. So the check clears on the 2nd of June due to Memorial Day. So you would think that would be that, right? Oh no, here we are 2 weeks later, check paid with fee that I've requested to be covered by my CU that I've belonged to for 45 years due to the accidental closing of my OD Loan by a new employee.
Anyway I refuse to give all my info to a machine that could wreak havoc on my CU accounts; I mean really what's up with a machine over something so private and personal? Called their provided 800 # to talk with Ashley; who proceeded to ask for detailed personal information. In 2016 with the epidemic of identity theft, a company should know and do better than to ask for everything about you including your DL#, address, SS#, telephone #, cell #, DOB and next of kin! That is too invasive! Ashley could not understand why I was unwilling to provide all of that 'Personal Identifying Information' simply to receive the response they provided to Realtor Federal Credit Union about me.
I requested to speak with her supervisor; someone Tony came on the line and still did not want to supply me with any of the information that was provided to this credit union about me; because according to him "they needed to do more research into exactly who I am before they could release any information to me." REALLY!!!
If Telecheck is the deciding factor the information they submit should be factual regarding an individual's information. It isn't clear what they have said to Realtor Federal Credit Union to spur this decision; but I haven't written a check since September 4, 2004 to Bigelow Blvd Buick for the unfinanced purchase of a vehicle. The depth to which these people wanted to delve into my personal information is a bit extreme; again in this day and time with all of the technology available to even the smallest of companies. Why does this company need to deep dive and explore a person's PII before they even answer one simple questions? I suspect these questions are asked to irritate the caller (victim) to a high level of frustration so that there is never a resolution and the erroneous information can remain in their system being reported repeatedly to any company that recruits the services of Telecheck!!! I have a health savings checking account that I use infrequently for qualifying purchases related to doctor's office co-pays, prescription medication, etc. I recently visited Rite Aid to purchase allergy medications totaling $45 and the check was declined - twice. Since I had ample funds with which to cover this purchase and excellent credit, I was perplexed with the decline. So I stepped outside and called the number on the decline receipt. After FINALLY finding a human on the other end of the phone after entering my information twice on my phone (aggravating), she explained they had no information on this checking account. I explained it was an HSA and only used for IRS qualified purchases relative to healthcare, so the checking account wasn't used each and every day.
It's extremely bothersome to the customer who doesn't deserve a decline to be treated in such a manner. It's extremely embarrassing to say the least. I would think Telecheck would have other means with which to gauge a fraudulent purchase, aside from the fact an account is seldom used. Perhaps a credit rating if there's "little to no information" available to them before they issue a decline? The thing is, businesses who utilize Telecheck's service is losing customers with these erroneous declines and embarrassments to their patrons. I went to the grocery store about a block from my home, where everyone knows everyone because it is a small town. My check was declined, so I tried a check from another account (both had plenty money), that was declined also. I thought the store was having trouble, because they did not give me a print out with any information on it. A couple of days later, I went to the gas station to purchase gas and a couple of cold drinks for my grandchildren who were with me. Again, my check is declined from both accounts. I was furious. I called the number and like everyone else, went through the process of entering all the information two or three times and finally got to speak to a person who I COULD NOT UNDERSTAND. I'm assuming she was Indian or Pakistanian or whatever!! I kept asking to speak to someone who could speak CLEAR ENGLISH. She told me I would have to speak to a supervisor and the supervisor was busy.
I hung up and called back, hoping to get a different person and hoping I could understand that person. NO such luck!! I got the same person, who expressed over and over how sorry she was about my troubles and I assured her I know she wasn't really sorry, that telling me that was just part of the speech they have to give you. Same story, I finally understood that it wasn't my lack of funds, it was because they were "monitoring my account for fraud". I asked who gave them permission to monitor my account. It is my account, I work for that money, why should I have to have their permission to spend it? After arguing with her for what seemed like forever, she told me again how sorry she was, and she would remove the hold. For the next couple of days, I wrote checks at the Doctor's office, the pharmacy, the grocery store. This is how we keep track of our spending. I never have cash on me.
Today, I go to put gas in my car and the check is denied again. I called Telecheck and got a foreign speaking man this time, his name was JACK (I think I know what is middle name is). Anyway, he told me the same story as before, except he added that part of the reason is because I had had a check denied in the past six days. DUH!!! They were the ones that denied it, I thought we had gotten it all cleared up, and now he tells me I have to wait 7 days before I can write a check. I had to go the bank and cash a check that was enough for gas and the medicine I needed TODAY!! It seems to me that this cannot be legal. I can understand if you keep writing bad checks or it's a habitual problem, but I did not ask them to perform this service. I am seriously contemplating consulting an attorney and suing Telecheck and the businesses that use them.
HOW CAN THEY KEEP ME FROM SPENDING MY MONEY? WHAT IF I NEED TO WRITE A CHECK FOR AN EMERGENCY? I asked Jack if he would come and pay for my medicine for me and his answer was the same old "I am so sorry, m'am". I was with my senior citizen mom at the Giant Food Store on Leaman Farm Rd. in Germantown, MD on April 22 when she wrote a check for groceries plus cash over--totaling less than $135--and had the check declined. No explanation--just a receipt with instructions to call if we wanted to pursue the matter. I pursue matters. I called today. It took almost 25 minutes to get past recordings, the first line explainer/apologist to a "supervisor" named Jen.
I learned the following: TeleCheck is a check guarantee service that serves Giant and others, not my mom. The company did not decline her based on any of the following (because none applied): bad credit (TeleCheck doesn't check a credit report), returned check (that has never happened), or failure to use the service for the number of checks required as a condition to being able to write a check for an amount in excess of the grocery amount (my mom was well beyond that requirement). TeleCheck makes a decision for each check and does not necessarily consider other check history (according to the first person) although the supervisor could tell me the dates and amounts of the two previous checks written at that store (suggesting they knew the relative frequency of her visits and the lack of past problems with the account).
So, the upshot is that a woman who generally does not carry much cash--and shouldn't--needs to do so because there is no reason to expect her checks to be accepted in the future either. To even speak with the company's reps I had to confirm all names on the check, address, phone, last four digits of the bank account, numbers printed on the receipt when the check was declined--but this was not enough for Jen to assure us that the future treatment would be based on something more than an arbitrary process. We don't need to use Giant or TeleCheck. It appears that is okay with TeleCheck.

You do not get to speak to a person. You only get to listen to their voice data telling you they cannot approve your check because they "did not have enough information." Businesses that do business with Telecheck will now not receive any purchases from me. Readers should consider telling store managers there are other more reputable sources for verifying checks and they should stop doing business with Telecheck. Give me a break, how often would I buy a computer and they're not cheap, duh. Luckily I had the cash to pay for it or my granddaughter would be so disappointed! The cash I had was to be used for other places that don't accept checks such as gas stations, farmer's markets or even places to eat. Then Telecheck tells me I am writing more than usual amounts of checks so they declined me once again at Walmart.
My husband since has retired and set up a direct deposit of his retirement into our checking account. Had to explain to Telecheck that's the reason for more frequent check writing. And then tells me to not write another check for at least a week because my check writing is being monitored. Well then yesterday, which was well over a week, I wrote a check at the grocery store which I have been doing so for over 20 years declined my check once again. The cashier handed me the printout and told me I could call Telecheck and figure it out from there, she was very kind and kept the entire thing very discreet.
I went to call the company and had to go through a 10 minute automated menu system where I was asked to put in the information about my check TWICE, then provide my zip code before I was transferred to someone in India who took over from there. And that was the extent of it.
Something that could have taken 15 minutes with a good connection turned into an hour and a half back and forth with these people trying to get a check that was written for less than $50 to get approved, which never happened. They said that they needed more information about me and my account, whatever happened to just asking for an ID? My ID IS my information and I already don't really like having to show my papers to someone just pay for something in the first place, now you need my address, phone number, zip code and social security number? This is ludicrous and as soon as my new Debit card comes in the mail I will not be writing anymore checks to any Telecheck using companies, it's just a pain in the ass.

Suggestion for everyone getting denied by Telecheck: Here is my form of protest. I will be going to every store, fill up my cart and I will attempt to purchase by check. When it is declined, I will simply walk out of the store and leave the cart there. I'll be sure to put frozen foods and perishable products in the cart that will go to waste. I can only hope that if this happens enough to enough grocery stores and they start to incur a cost due to Telecheck declining checks, then perhaps they will rethink their reliance on Telecheck.
I guess the question is whether Lowe's Food and Food Lion would rather take a chance on my check clearing or having to quickly return everything to the freezer and cooler and/or throw out the merchandise because it has been sitting out too long. After they lose enough money through wasted food and effort due to Telecheck's arbitrary and onerous approval process, perhaps the cost of having to use Telecheck will outweigh the cost associated with wasted products and staff effort resulting from Telecheck denials.
Yesterday, I attempted to use an ACH check through Amazon because I didn't want to "test the waters" in person at a local grocery store where my kids know half the cashiers. Predictably, it was declined. Called the 800 number and spent close to 2 hours where a supervisor said that on a scale of 1-20, I had an 18 before the NSF and now I was back at ZERO despite not owing any money. She said that she would manually set my rating to a 20 so that I should not encounter this problem again.
Felt pretty good about that so got cocky and went to Food Lion today and attempted to purchase 20 bucks worth of dog food and get 50 bucks cash back. Called (by now they are on speed dial) and had to deal with the same song and dance and accusatory tones and being told that I had to "rebuild" my history by making "smaller purchases"... Yesterday I was declined for an 8.00 purchase... How do you get smaller than that? Then they wanted to call my bank and verify that I had funds in my account. My bank won't do that. There was no amount of reasoning, arguing or anything I could do. I told them I thought this had been resolved... and on top of that I'm still out the amount of the original check that cleared.

Tried to write a check for $500 to pay for new tires at Walmart and Telecheck declined it. I called two different 1-800 numbers trying to do something to fix this and get my check to go through, but they only give the reason why it didn't go through and no options to try and correct the problem or talk to an actual representative. So now I'm stranded at Walmart without a vehicle even though I have the money in my account to afford the tires because I "don't have a long enough history of checks through Telecheck". This is completely unacceptable. I wrote a check at this same location a week ago for $120 and it went through without a problem.

I have been shopping at Redner's Markets for 20 years, always wrote checks for the groceries, and today my check was denied. The clerk gave me a code but couldn't explain anything. I have enough money in my checking account, so I put the groceries back on the shelve. And next I went directly to the bank, and they said a lot of people were denied paying for their groceries at Redner's because their checks were denied. Of course, they also had no clue why, so I went back out to Redner's and talked to the manager and she said call Telecheck. So I went home and called Telecheck to only get a computer voice which didn't help, so the only way to solve this problem is never shop at Redner's Food Market again or get rid of Telecheck!!!

Telecheck declined a check written at a local grocery store. There was a ticket with the merchant number and denial number. I called and, after approximately 10 minutes of punching in numbers and holding, I finally spoke with a person. They stated they were unable to help me unless I gave them my checking number. The lady said she could not/would not help with the denial number only.
Not only is there the inconvenience of the check not being accepted, there was the utter waste of time contacting the company. It seems that their denial process is random. In the setting of identity theft and fraud, requiring the bank account is asinine. It is unclear how a company can be responsible for denying checks when they do not have this information. Either they are randomly denying checks in order to phish for personal information or they are completely unwilling to provide reasons for their actions. Either way, I would strongly recommend that any company using their services reconsider. This will ultimately lose business for that company. We will not return to the store where the check was denied via Telecheck.

I tried to make a payment to Sprint and they would not accept it. They gave me the number to Telecheck and told me they had to resolve it. When I called Telecheck the lady was very ignorant and had no interest in helping me. When I told her I needed to pay my bill so I would not get shut off she simply hung up on me. When I called again they hung up again. This was the worst experience ever.

I attempted to make a payment to Sprint and had to use my checking account, which I NEVER do (an ATM machine ate my debit card and I am awaiting a replacement so I had no other choice), and my payment was declined. I contacted Telecheck at (877) 678-5898 based on the message received from Sprint, and after pushing 0 to try to get a live person for 5+ minutes, finally got someone who proceeded to explain to me that since I don't have a history of writing checks, that they had the right to decline my payment.
Are you freaking kidding me? Really? How are they even permitted to do that? Establish a history by writing checks for smaller amounts? Who are they kidding? I hardly ever write checks. Why would I start now just for the purpose of establishing a history WITH THEM? I should be able to write a check no matter how infrequent and have that check accepted... PERIOD!
I cannot believe that in 2016, with the level of development of technology in banking (and every other facet of everyday life) that this practice is even acceptable. If I present a check, I have the money to cover that check and it should be honored... THE END. Why would Telecheck establish such an arbitrary rule? And better yet, why is no one checking such an absurd and idiotic practice? Companies like Telecheck need to be put out of their misery. Bunch of freaking crooks!

I went to CVS Pharmacy to pick up a prescription. I wrote a check from my new HSA account and it was declined? I called the phone # that CVS gave me, 800-366-2425, and was asked over and over again to input my check info and amount. It was an endless loop!!! This 800 # is useless. I then went onto the website and apparently whoever does the 800 #'s for them also does the website. Awful navigation and no useful contact for Customers.
I then got a phone # off the internet, 800-964-9490, which actually got me to a human. The person took my ref # and info and told me it was declined because of history and a "risk percentage"?!? Of course there is no history, it's a new account!!! The rep told me I would need to build up my history??? I need my prescription not a check writing history!!! I asked for a supervisor but was told they were busy and could call me back. Never did call me back. I have been in banking nearly 20 years and deal with a lot of merchant services companies and can't believe the type of service and policies I just had to deal with!

It appears I have not written enough checks with Telecheck merchants to be allowed to write checks. I attempted to make a purchase for $84 on Amazon and was declined, but a purchase of $29.99 was allowed. I was informed I need to make purchases of smaller amounts to create a history with them before I am allowed to make a payment of $84 (even though I have the money in my account). This is absurd!!! Merchants need to utilize a better service, especially a large company like Amazon.

I went to my local Walmart to EXCHANGE two pairs of jeans that my son got for Christmas that were too small. All I wanted was the next size up! The associate scanned my ID and I was refused the exchange for "checks on file"! I received a slip of paper with a 800 number on it. I called Telecheck and gave them my ID number (They asked for account info but I would not give them that info.), and they said there is nothing in their files. So nothing in their files on me but yet I can't write checks to any store with Telecheck and I cannot exchange/return items or cash payroll checks at Walmart! This is BS!

I received a letter in the mail on 12/12/15 from TRS Recovery Services and telecheck. The letter stated that I made a $480.00 purchase from Amazon FPS on 10/13/2015 and then stopped payment on the check. The letter had "Notice of Unpaid Electronic Transfer" at the top of the page. It read that the above referenced electronic transaction could not be completed because either I had stopped payment on this transaction or my account may not be authorized for ACH transactions.
Telecheck has purchased this dishonored electronic fund transfer referenced. As a result, TeleCheck has forwarded the debt to its affiliate, TRS Recovery Services, Inc. for collection. Your file has been assigned to the Recovery Department where it will be given to a professional collection agent. It stated that I purchased an item in the amount of $480.00 from Amazon FPS and a check was written on October 13, 2015 and a $25 returned check fee was added. I do not have a bank account with the bank they are claiming it was written on, **. I have not ordered anything from Amazon and I called Amazon and they verified that I had not ordered anything from them.
I called TRS Services and after reluctance I gave them my current bank info, driver's license number, and social security number and they said that I had bought something an account from ** Bank. I have never banked with this bank. I went to ** bank personally on 12/14/2015 and the bank verified that I did not have an account with them and that I have never used an account with them to purchase any items from Amazon, nor had anyone else committed identity fraud with my information. And they also verified that no one had ever opened an account in my name. I called TRS back and was hung up on 7 different times by their representatives. I called Telecheck back and was told to call TRS.
Both companies, Telecheck and TRS Recovery Services have made an error and are refusing to rectify the situation. They are wanting me to get a certified letter from ** saying that I have never banked with them, and then send them 3 pages of information including all of my personal banking information and a picture of my drivers license. It should be up to this company to fix this.
I have not ordered any items from Amazon as verified by Amazon and I do not have an account and never have with ** bank. I am having a hard time even understanding how Telecheck says that a transaction occurred with an account from ** bank when there has never been an account in my name with said bank and also how a transaction for $480.00 of products were bought from Amazon when Amazon verified to me that the transaction never occurred. I did not order from amazon and I want to know how and why this company has my information and are making false claims and threats against my character and my credit. I do not know if I can file a police report because no one has used my identity because there has never been a ** bank account in my name and no items were purchased from Amazon. This company needs to be stopped!
Update: After contacting the company more than 11-15 times, calling Amazon several times, going to the bank I was accused of using, and filing a report with the BBB and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau this is the response the company sent me through the Consumer Bureau:
"Thank you for contacting TRS Recovery Services regarding ref# **. While this matter is being researched, the status of this account has been updated in our systems as a "Dispute," and collection efforts will cease until our investigation has been completed. Also, this dispute has been reported to TRS' affiliate TeleCheck Services, Inc. (TeleCheck), a consumer reporting agency, and the status of this debt has been updated in TeleCheck's negative database, as well. Be assured that information you provide is legally protected from unauthorized disclosure. Please feel free to contact me at **, if you have any further questions."
A week later I received from the Consumer Bureau another response: "While investigating this matter, TRS was notified by its affiliate, TeleCheck Services, Inc. (TeleCheck), that one of your identifiers was erroneously attached to another account. This disassociation has been corrected in TeleCheck's system and we assure you that we have removed your information from TRS' system as well. TRS regrets any inconvenience and/or confusion you have experienced as a result of this issue. Be assured that information you provide is legally protected from unauthorized disclosure. Please feel free to contact me at **, if you have any further questions."
First off, what is an identifier and how was it attached to another account? How did this company come to be in possession of my private, personal and financial information? Does this company also know that according to their lawsuit where they were required to pay the US government 3.5 million for doing what they did to me, that, according to the final judgement they are forbidden from: Requiring the consumer to contact a third party directly to resolve a dispute over the completeness or accuracy of any item of information contained in the consumer's file.
Also forbidden from: Imposing limitations or conditions before conducting an investigation. I was told by TRS and Telecheck representatives to contact a third party, the bank in question, ** Bank which I have never banked with, to prove my innocence and to do an investigation of the matter on my own. They refused to investigate this matter or file a "dispute" until I mailed them a form asking for VERY personal information including: (l) your name, (2) your address, (3) the bank routing and account number relating to the reported records, (4) a copy of your driver's license or other state-issued identification, (5) if the matter involves the opening of a new bank account, your social security number, (6) specific details of the records you are disputing (check or transaction number, date, amount, and payee), and (7) the reason for the dispute (suspected forgery, suspected identity theft, etc.).
Also, (a) TeleChecks Forgery/Identity Theft Declaration form, completed, (b) copy of a filed police report, (c) completed FTC Identity Theft Report Affidavit available at www.ftc.gov, or (d) completed bank affidavit or declaration. The forms read to mail these private documents, where anyone can get and open in transit, to their company.
I also am expected to send all of this private information to and trust a company that made such an irresponsible error, hung up the phone on me several times and that I had to call at least 11-15 times or more to try to get someone to help me, ending in more confusion and frustration. I was told by one representative that I needed to "Stop trying to confuse myself," as if I were ignorant and then she hung up on me. I was hung up on at least 7 times or more by them. Amazon's legal department told me that if TRS nor Telecheck could provide me with an order number it was a scam by TRS and Telecheck. They should not be asking for personal information over the phone.
A representative with Telecheck also told me that I had to give them my current bank account number (which had nothing to do with their claim against me), routing number, Social Security number, Driver's License number and address to find out any information against their claim, OVER THE PHONE TO A STRANGER! Identity fraud is a HUGE problem and these companies are treating consumers' private information with utter disregard and something needs to be done to stop this from happening to someone else.

Unreal. I had a business account check from my employer issued to purchase a laptop from Best Buy in West DSM, IA. The check amount was below $1500 and was declined in the store. The clerk in the store 1) never seemed to have seen that before and 2) had no ability to help. I immediately drove to my office to call the number that printed out on the back of the declined check. After hearing the automated explanation which was that there was "insufficient history" of use for Telecheck to approve the transaction, I selected the option to talk to a human being. That was a mistake. Tony essentially only confirmed what the robot had and starting telling me that he couldn't give me any information about the check or their process because I wasn't the CEO. To be fair, I became agitated and Tony hung up on me. The next day I called back to further inquire as to what I am supposed to do.
Again after talking to the robot, a woman informed me that I would have to wait 7 days, get an entirely new check issued by my employer, go back to Best Buy... and MAYBE it would be approved by their system. She also suggested that I write checks in smaller amounts to build up a history so that larger checks would go through. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! I am sure my boss and accountants will go for issuing random checks for me to spread around town so that we can "build up a history with Telecheck merchants". I can appreciate retailers wanting to protect themselves from fraud but the companies that enter into a business agreement with Telecheck to be their gatekeeper are being done a great disservice. I for one will boycott any retailer or other business that identifies themselves as a Telecheck merchant. Best Buy just lost another customer.

I am furious. My check was declined for not writing enough checks with THEIR merchants. Not enough sufficient information built up in their system to approve a check. More than enough money in the bank!!! They base it upon check writing history or which I rarely write checks anymore because I use a debit card. The debit has a limit, so this time I wrote a check. Check writing history at certain merchants is not a reason to decline a check. Poor credit, yes! No money in the checking account, yes! This does not fit within their guidelines. Guess what does not fit within mine: patronizing business. I get the run around with when I try to purchase an item. There are other business where I don't have to suffer the embarrassment or hassle. I can also choose to do without, which certainly doesn't help the economy much.
