I started trying Match.com about two years ago and found the service was not as productive in locating people as I expected. I canceled the service and several months later received an e-mail stating that someone was trying to reach me. I reactivated my account for 30 days to get the information but Match.com continued to bill me for six months of use. I did not authorize this action and when I called to complain, I was told there would be no refund by Kathy.

This company is a rip off artist! They do not give you an option; they just bill you. I have been very selective with the use of this site and did not authorize additional billings due to being laid-off nine months ago. This company's unethical tactics to steal money from my account has made my account overdrawn and charged additional penalties due to this fact.

I have received only fake people contact me since I signed up 10 days ago. I called and requested a refund. I was refused and after the second complaint call, I was told I was doing something wrong with my searches. My complaint was from everyone who contacted me. They are all fake. All I want is a refund and be removed from the website! I want my money back and be removed from the site. The devastation to be on this website with all the scams doesn't have a price for my emotional and disgust in what has happened whereby they won't let me get my money back and get off the disgusting website.

I had been a subscriber on and off. I recently received an email and used the free three-day trial. The email was a fake and I promptly canceled my account within the three-day trial period. I received a confirmation of cancellation via email stating that I would not be charged on September 7. On September 12, I checked my credit card balance and found that in fact I had been charged.

I tried calling customer service only to have a recorded message stating that they only had agents available from Monday to Friday. I attempted to use their complaint center through their site, only to be told that the feature was not available when I clicked on the send button. I contacted American Express and they have issued a full refund. Meanwhile, the account is still active and have not had any contact with Match. Luckily, American Express treats its customers better than Match.com.

On another note, you are unable to remove the billing information from your Match account. I attempted to delete my credit card information but am unable to. Match.com has indeed become a haven for scams. I have been contacted numerous times by clearly fake women, usually when my subscription was about to end. This billing scam is the final straw with me.

I signed up for a Match.com profile, and began to email women who I was interested in. I immediately discovered that I could not send them a photograph via Match.com's email service. This created a huge amount of negativity. When I tried to send the ladies an email through which I could send them a photograph, Match.com stripped it out and replaced it with the ineffective Match.com email.

After three days, I was so disgusted by Match.com's actions that I canceled. Before I canceled, I emailed every woman I had emailed and notified her that I would no longer be a Match.com subscriber. I did this as a courtesy to them. Yet immediately following my cancellation, I received three purported emails. Later, long after I had hidden my profile to prevent Match.com from using me to attract victims, I still received a wink.

It's clear to me that Match.com has numerous profiles which are illegitimate, that Match.com censors communications in order to prevent you from contacting interested parties (the sooner you connect, the less you'll pay), and sends you fraudulent winks, emails, and other communications in order to get you to subscribe. I believe the above meets the definition of fraud.

Match.com, an Internet dating service, offers a highly misleading "6 month guarantee". This guarantee, advertised on television and the Internet was specifically the reason I joined. They state "Find someone special in 6 months, or we'll give you 6 more months free". The method by which they "administer" this guarantee is clearly designed to ensure that consumers will "fail" to complete their mandatory steps to grant the 6 month free extension. And therefore, this "guarantee" is in fact false advertising designed to attract consumers without actually costing Match.com much of anything.

The "mandatory steps" that the consumer is required to maintain in order to have the guarantee granted is; have an Internet Dating Profile, keep it "visible", and email 5 other members per month. That is where they get you. Firstly, it is never entirely clear what they mean by "month". For instance, the final "month" of my term was 33 days long. I emailed in excess of 5 girls around the 29th or 30th day of both the calendar and/or date-joined month, but they "conveniently" made the final month start 3 days earlier, so that they claimed I failed to maintain my mandatory steps for the prior month.

In addition, their website was down during the 30th day of another month prior, physically preventing me from emailing the 5 girls I attempted to email. There is no provision in their agreement for this, and that month was also counted as a "failure" on my part to keep the mandatory steps.

Given that it was never entirely clear what a "month" is according to Match.com, given that they do not care nor make any allowances for their own system preventing you from completing their mandatory steps, and given that they apparently can freely vary the number of days and/or definition of a "month" in order to cause you to "fail" to complete a given month's mandatory steps, this "6 month guarantee" is clearly a blatant attempt to defraud the consumer by enticing them to join while having a system so complex and flawed that they virtually assure that most consumers will "fail", and then they will not deliver upon their "guarantee".

Furthermore, in all Internet, print and television advertisement, they simply state "Find someone special in 6 months, or we will give you 6 months free". They do not state anything about these confusing, misleading mandatory requirements. Therefore, prima facia, they have committed false advertising, because in fact I did not find someone special in 6 months and yet they refused to give me 6 months free.

Furthermore, I endeavored, to the best of my ability, to actually follow their mandatory steps anyway. And despite my earnest best-efforts to maintain these mandatory steps, they nonetheless refused to honor their guarantee. I believe this is a class-action-able matter, since doing a simple Internet search for "Complaint Match.com Guarantee" revealed a large list of other similar consumer complaints that Match.com also refused to honor those numerous people's guarantees. I did attempt to resolve this with them directly through repeated contacts with customer service, without success. Thank you. Consequences: $88.00 registration fee.

As a recent subscriber of this company, I had an expectation that at the very least I would be interacting with true individuals, not bogus parties trying to scam me. I have only been a member for three weeks and have already had three interactions with individuals that have obviously misrepresented themselves. An e-mail response is obviously not the person who wrote the profile. Examples: broken English; if you try to talk about the local area they say they live in, they say they are currently out of the country. By the second and third exchange, they start telling a story of needing help. I have never let it get any further than this after researching on Google and seeing pages and pages of complaints and familiar MO's that other members have experienced. This is how it works:

Someone winks (usually outside of the area of your profile). They have never looked at your profile. You wink or email back. They e-mail and immediately want you to go to a yahoo account. First red flag. When you go back to look at their profile, it is no longer available. Second red flag. You ask them about it and they tell you they are a new member and will contact Match.com immediately to find out why their profile is no longer available. When I called Match.com, they had no explanation for why the profiles were not available, just that this is a common occurrence. Within another couple of email exchanges, they are setting up scenarios of needing help. The first two I dealt with always involved their younger children, tragic accidents, being isolated.

Match.com may give dating tips and post cautions about meeting people, but they have to have heard from another people, given what is posted on the internet when you Google Match.com customer complaints. I believe that they are well aware that this is happening and that bogus profiles are being posted with potential partners quickly wanting to take people off of the site into private email accounts. Where are the warnings about this? It has happened so frequently, according to the web, that many subscribers believe that Match.com is the one doing this. I think it is a mixture of both. I think winks are sent out to keep you on the hook from their staff, and they have a big problem with people trying to scam their customers.

Now I am concerned, given the net stories, that I am quickly going to enter into another nightmare by stopping them from withdrawing future funds from by credit card. Another hundred plus stories on the web about this practice. I am going to start working with my bank to try to protect myself. There has to be something that can be done to stop this dishonest practice by a company that is reaping huge financial benefit. Thank you.

Same situation as the class action suit states. I was on Match.com and sent out over 60 emails with 2 responses. Some profiles people filled out stated their contract was ending on a specific date. But those profiles were still coming up as active people to date and I would be sent those people as potential matches. The other thing is that in the 2 months or so I used the site, I sent out over 60 emails with 2 responses. And maybe I had one person email me that was an honest living person.

After my subscription ends, I am being sent emails from Match.com saying people are emailing me and looking to talk. I get these emails all the time. But when my account was active, I got basically no emails from other customers. I did get a few "winks" while on the site, but when I try to see those profiles, they were deleted the same day I got the "wink." I really believed these were created by Match.com to keep people paying for subscriptions, leading me to think someone had interest when they never truly existed. So, how did those profiles go away the same day as the "wink" they sent and yet other outdated subscribers profiles are not? That is where I get suspicious of the site creating fake profiles.

I even notice a profile/picture of a girl on match.com and saw the same girl picture on an advertisement ad on a web page on Yahoo.

I think Match uses fake photos and make fake profiles. A perfect story was in the news the other day. A family photo was taken off the internet and used as an advertisement billboard in a country. It made me depressed and I felt ripped off by the match.com service.

I met a guy from Match.com online and emailed him. He emailed me back and I starting chatting with him on Yahoo IM. I asked probing questions, which he answered vaguely. I started to get suspicious when he started telling me he loved me after our first chat. I told him that I needed to meet him and that I would wait until he returned to the states on June 15th.

He set up times with me to IM me and chat with me everyday and yesterday, he told me that something terrible had happened. He told me he was mugged by hoodlums in Nigeria. He said that they got the sum of $30,000 and that he was not sure what to do. I probed questions, which he ignored. Then, it came, he asked me if I could do him a favor and lend him some money until he got back to the States. He promised to pay me back. I told him that I didn't have any money and that I was sorry, I couldn't help him. We chatted a few minutes then he asked if I could possibly just lend him the sum of $500 until he could get home. I of course told him no and that I didn't loan money to people that I have never met.

I have since spoken to a few friends of mine that have been on Match.com and on eHarmony and have experienced similar scams. I would never give anyone money from an internet site and cannot believe that this guy actually thought he had fooled me. I want to warn everyone out there that these Nigerian scams, Brazilian scams and other (out of the country for work) scams are out there.

These guys do their homework. They know enough to get by and answer questions that are asked. You can tell by their typing skills that they are foreign (or pretend to be) and if they are not willing to call you on the phone and have conversations, then they aren't really interested in dating you. Please be careful. These dating sites that charge money are more of a target because the users/scam artists want to attract people that would pay to meet someone. I want to make sure no one else out there gets caught up in this scam. Ask probing questions, get facts, save your chats, ask the same question in a different way. I insisted it should be closed immediately and will send a letter to the Better Business Bureau. The only way my account can be credited is to send an email to you. I caught Match.com red-handed with a misleading claim on their website. The Match.com website clearly says you can receive emails even if you are not subscribed (e.g., even if you have a free account). It says: If I resign, will I still be able to receive and respond to email? Receiving email is free. You can receive responses even if you have never subscribed to Match.com. However, you must be a subscriber to respond to email or initiate a conversation with other Match.com members.

So you see, according to their own Q&A, a non-subscriber should be able to read their incoming emails. However, when you create a free account and profile and someone emails you in good faith, Match.com will not let you read the email unless you are subscribed. Their own website contradicts this policy as shown above. This is dishonest and misleading. (It is also stupid that they should let you read the email and if it's a legit interesting person contacting you, you would naturally want to reply. And in order to reply, you have to pay.)

After Match.com auto billed me, I could not open the website. This is the only website I have problems with and I followed a number of standard procedures to resolve any problems that might have been on my end. I would still get email from them and could sometimes get into my account by responding to an email, but even then I was blocked from getting to my account info so I could not send a complaint or cancel. I finally found the customer service line on the internet and called twice with no resolution - evidently they have no tech support that can talk to a customer.

When I called my credit card company to reverse the charges (I'm not paying for a service I don't get), I was told that Match was a high offender and that the credit card company bypassed the typical process of investigating (immediately reversed the charges and put a lock to ban future bills). Years ago, Match got in trouble for auto billing accounts 3 days before the due dates and then refusing to honor members' requests to cancel the day before the due date (this was not noted in the contract info). Buyer beware. Match may provide some good services, but business practices stink, in my opinion.

Match.com charged my account 3 times at $101.94 for a service I did not want to begin with because of false advertisement. I was under the impression the service was $16.99 a month for 6 months, not one payment of $101.94 for six months. The company reimbursed me for one payment of $101.94. When I realized through my bank that my account was in the negative because of two other charges from match.com, I called the company for my money back plus all overdraft fees, 5 at $25 and 1 at $50 that I had been charged because of Match.com's error.

Omar at Match.com refuses to give me the number to their billing department and claims that his company is working as hard as they can to fix this problem with no promises of what I will be reimbursed. Because of Match.com's error, I am having to stay at a friend's house because I don't have any money in my account for groceries or to pay my bills, including paying my rent on time. I will be charged $50. All pending purchases I had made since this mess are charging my account $25 overdraft fees ... leaving my account in the negative with a pending payment to my electricity company. What I would like back is $203.88 for the payments they charged me with, $50 for my late rent fee and $125 for my 5 overdraft bank fees totaling $378.88. And I would like this asap so I can go back home. Thank you.

I have been using Match.com on and off in the past 2 years. I have purchased at least 3 memberships and have never had any problem or complaint on my account. On April 5th, 2009, I have bought a 3 month membership with Match.com through their gift subscription offer. My payment has gone through and I have received an email verifying my subscription and was able to enter the site and contact members. I've made a connection that evening and have received a response the day after, April 6th, 2009. To my dismay though, when I have attempted to sign in again and read my messages, I have received the following message: There is a problem with your account. Please refer all questions to resolutions@support.match.com.

I have immediately written an email to the aforementioned address. A couple of days later, after not hearing back from the support team, I have called Match.com customer support. I was informed my account was blocked but has not been given a reason into why that happened. Since I know I have fulfilled my end of the contract, which is to pay for the service and conduct a respectful communication with others, I was stunned to hear that. I have spoken to 3 tiers of customer support representatives who assured me the only body that can take care of my account is the corporate office. The highest supervisor I was able to speak with has told me the problem was probably a double click on the payment button which has led to a technical glitch. She said I will be contacted by the corporate office within 72 business hours, i.e. 9 business days.

I have explained to the supervisor that I have established a contact and have no way to reach them at the moment; this cannot wait so long. She has told me the only thing I can do is to sign up again with another username and another email. She accepted my argument that this is probably not a very trust conducive path to follow, to have your account blocked and re-surface with another user name; this seems so shady. Alas, that’s all she could do at the moment. She has mentioned my account has been credited, but my problem was with my reputation, not my money. It’s been now over 72 business hours, no word from Match.com. I contacted Better Business Bureau and filed a complaint.

I started trying dealing with the resolution team, only to be told that they also could not tell me why I had been blocked without a subpoena. I have now been dealing with the abuse team. I was sent a generic email saying that I could subpoena my records. I spoke to my attorney. She said I need to ask what type of subpoena I would need to file or if I need to file a formal civil action against Match in order to do a subpoena. Match responded with, again, a generic email.

She said that it was the corporate office that blocked the account. I asked for the corporate office number and she said she didn't have it. She told me the ONLY thing I could do was join again from a different email address and use a different user name. I told her that was ridiculous. In order to view profiles on Match.com, you have to fill out a profile. It's sort of like having to fill out a credit application to window shop. So there are plenty of folks on Match.com who aren't paying subscribers, just lookers who filled out the info to look and see if there were any interesting people out there. Match won't tell you who they are; they just let you send them email after email without delivering them, because they don't deliver to those non-subscribers. But if you're paying, they should be delivering your emails or telling you that they're not delivering your emails. That's part of the bargain. After all, that's what you paid for.

So I actually wrote in my profile I'm not a subscriber, and Match won't deliver your email to me. So they blocked my account for offensive content :-). When you sign up but haven't paid, they'll send you an email pretending to be someone interested in your profile, hoping you'll sign up to find out who it is. And that is fraud. And then they won't let you post your photos on your profile unless they approve it. We're not talking obscenity here. We're talking if your primary shot isn't enough of a close-up for their tastes, then they'll keep you from posting it as a primary photo, and people interested in your profile won't notice that you've posted a photo.

Internet dating could be great, but with Match.com, it's just a rip-off.

This was back in 2002. I was thinking about signing up with Udate.com so I found the (cancel my account) page first, then I signed up with Udate using my debit card. After that for some reason the (cancel my account) page was no where to be found. I'm guessing they logged my IP address and every time I logged in the page was gone or something. This sounds really stupid but it gets better. After a few days of using their services I emailed help@udate and explained that I had signed up and cannot find the page on their site to cancel my account. The reply: (I don't understand your question). Ok, I thought no one can be this stupid so I wrote them back and again explained that I signed up for an account with Udate.com and I can't find the page anywhere on your site to cancel my account. The reply: (I don't understand your question). At the time there were 2 links on their page for help. One that said email help@udate and the other, email the president@udate. I found this to be strange because why would the president wanna take the time to answer 100s or even 1000s of emails. This is what help@udate is for.

So I viewed the page source code to find that both links went to help@udate.com. Ok this is not cool. You don't lie to paying customers. After this I emailed help@udate many, many times a day and explained the same thing and told them to cancel my account! At the end of the month they took another payment out of my account. I thought to myself you sorry **! So I emailed help@udate and this time I cursed them out big time and guess what? They understood my question. Imagine that! It was a long time ago but their reply had something to do with (them not having to be subjected to such language). I found that to be funny. Well I adopted the ol I don't understand your question routine and continued to write them many times a day with just what they needed to hear. My emails were so bad that finally the president@udate.com, that's right, the actual president wrote me back and I explained to him what was going on and still nothing was done to close my account.

This went on for 4 months and after about 125.00 of unauthorized deductions from my bank account I finally had to close my bank account to stop Udate.com from taking monthly payments out. I did notice that right after all of this they updated their website with a new look and no email help or the president links. They now use an email form. I of course continued to write them daily telling them the things I thought they should hear for the next 2 years and yes I was smiling as I typed because I knew just how much they loved me. So I would suggest do not join Udate.com because they are a scam but if you do decide to join and get ripped off, I would be more than happy to write them for you being they haven't heard from me in 7 years and probably miss me.

When I initially signed up for their services in Sept 2007, I signed up for a 6 months subscription, which I did accidentally and couldn't get the subscription reduced no matter how hard I tried. I thought in signing up for a 6 months subscription when the 6 months was up so was my subscription.

I learned from the bank that I have been charged repeatedly for their service and have never once received an email or notification from Match.com stating that my subscription was coming to an end and that I was about to be charged for another subscription! I did not sign up for automatic renewal. If in very small print there was an automatic renewal policy, it should be in really big print because I did not see it and I am generally very vigilant about these things. Unfortunately I didn't even notice the other charges and just noticed this one and inquired about it at my bank.

When I went to Match.com today and my sign-in name was there, I used my old password, accessed my account and officially terminated my services. After they just charged me for another six months. Services that I thought were terminated in March 2008 at the end my 6 months subscription.

I have had no activity for over a year and have never received an email from Match.com about anything. If I had received any notices from Match.com that my subscription was going to be renewed for another 6 months, I would have immediately cancelled the transaction before it even took place. I am disputing this charge and the ones from March 2008 and Sept 2008 with my bank and the Better Business Bureau. Well, according to his profile, he has a bachelor's degree and is a building contractor by trade. They make good money, I know, I work for one.

He lost his wife according to his profile, so he must have had an insurance policy he collected on and can use that money to pay for his daughter's surgery. I am not gullible or that desperate to fall for such lines. However, I know there are others who are lonely and may be easily scammed into his deceitful ways. Would you please have your attorney research this e-mail address and possibly protect anyone else he may prey on?

I'm certain he took a nice-looking man's picture holding his child and submitted it as his own with a profile that was just as attractive to reel women in. I wondered how real this was. I had doubt in the back of my mind something like this could happen, so when it did, I wasn't that disappointed. I hope my future efforts might be more successful. I do want to protect others from harm, though. We all work so hard for our money, I don't want the corrupt getting away with this. Let me know if you would like the picture he submitted, so you can see who the real picture belongs to.

Thank you for your time and help. I did save the e-mail with him asking for the money. If you need a copy, let me know. Thank you.

I painstakingly made sure each month that I followed all the instructions and it's not the easiest thing to do while deployed. I had to take my laptop to an internet center in order to open Match.com because the site does not allow access from the provider we have in Baghdad. The 6th month of my service, I checked to make sure that all the checkmarks were green before I logged off. Then my account was charged this month.

When I called to complain, they said I had only emailed 4 people the last month. So how is it that all the checkmarks were green? I cancelled my account. They say I'll get a refund within 24-72 hours. But now I'm out an additional charge that I wasn't expecting and had to pay 2x the amount per month for the previous six months.

I am updating my situation. I signed up for the free trial, and they immediately took the funds out of my bank account. I cancelled before the free 3-day trial was up, but they wouldn't refund my money. PayPal wouldn't refund my money either because they said Match.com denied my request for a refund; they have my IP on record that I agreed to pay for the service. I agreed to pay for the service only after the 3-day free trial. I had not committed to signing up for a full subscription yet! So, beware if you see this on their site and just want to check it out, thinking you're checking it out for 3 days free. They will charge you even if you don't want to continue with a full subscription! It's false advertising in my opinion! I just got my money refunded (13 days later), but it took a lot of work, aggravation and time!

Match.com will not work with you to get your money back! Once they get your money, they hang onto it; they are not going to let it go without a lot of effort on your part! I sent about 8 or 9 emails to their resolutions department and customer relations, but all they would do is send me a generic form-type letter saying the same ** - “We're sorry to see you go. Go online for more information.” Once, they even said to go online to cancel. I already cancelled. Why would they tell me to go online to cancel when I even gave them the cancellation confirmation number that they gave me! I am convinced that the departments answering the complaints only send out generic form letters. Not once did it ever address my personal situation, but I wasn't giving up! I went to my bank and put in a claim. I even put in a claim with the Better Business Bureau.

Finally, after all that, I got my money back, but it took going to my bank and to the BBB to help me. So, don't give up. Go directly to the Better Business Bureau and file your complaints to get your money back! If enough people do this, maybe they will lose their status with the BBB, which they don't deserve anyway! In my opinion, this experience has shown me what a scam business they are!

This keeps profiles online forever teasing them with interested people you can never get an email to. I had the experience of knowing a potential date's real address and we noticed that when we sent emails through the site, they didn't reach either one of us. I then had a few interested people email me and I sent emails back to them and they never responded mysteriously making me think they changed their minds.

Well, how many times can this happen until you realize you're being scammed? It happened about 5 times to me over a year. This is fraud in the worst way, to falsely represent a meeting opportunity and keep people from actually contacting each other. This company should be out of business for fraud. The whole reason I signed up for Match.com is that they guaranteed that if you don't find someone in six months, you get six months free. I read the terms of use and it had me under the impression that I had to use the services provided I frequently visit the website and search through profiles. During these six months, there were some gentlemen who contacted me but were nowhere near my standards so I didn't return nor contact back. If you check my records, you will see that I did contact people but they were not my match.

I am now outraged to be informed by your customer service manager Oswald that I was to have had to contact people that I have no interest in every month in order to be qualified to reserve my six months free. Oswald then rudely questioned me why I couldn't find someone in their 15 million profiles, making me feel like there is something wrong with me. I have all the right to contact people who I'm interested in, not who he thinks I should contact. I have not found anyone. He then went on and questioned me by asking, "Well, if you couldn't find someone you wanted to talk to in the first six months, what makes you think you will find someone in the next six months?" This left me speechless!

Basically, Oswald was telling me that I had to lower my standards and talk to people I have no interest or compatibility with in order to qualify. Is this part of your selling tactics? People who join your site has to contact people they have no interest in or who are not looking for the same things you are? I didn't pay over $100 to lower my standards. If I would have been aware of all this before, I would have never signed up. I would have spent my hard earned money at eHarmony, but instead Match had me under the impression that it was okay to look for Mister Right. That if I didn't find him in the first six months, Match will help me find him for another six months. It is outrageous! I look forward to hearing back from you promptly.

He had a Match.com account, and a few months ago, I asked him to get rid of it. He cancelled the paying membership. Today, I came across his profile on Match.com again and confronted him about it, as it said that he was active within the last 24 hours. He denied it, and I definitely wanted to believe him, but why would the website lie, right? Well, he ended up calling Match.com's customer service line and asked the customer service rep why it has logged him as being active within the last 24 hours, since he said he has not logged on in months.

The CSR (and I heard her say this) said that if one clicks on an email from Match.com while they still have an account, even though it is inactive, it logs as being active. Even in a case where one deletes the Match.com email immediately, it counts as being active. So basically, Match.com is fraudulently allowing those looking for love to believe that all of these great people are logging on, searching actively, when truthfully, they are getting rid of solicitation emails. I have never received the request. Then I sent them an email requesting some follow up, but I just got an automatic response telling me to call customer service.

After your account is cancelled and you have the proper cancellation confirmation codes, they continue to illegally take money out of your account without your knowledge. I am going to file a complaint with the Attorney General for the State of Texas, since Match.com has a TX address. I am going to also research to find their registered agent. I work for attorneys so I don't have to pay any legal fees to file suit against Match.com.

Please note that all civil subpoenas must be served on Match.com, LLCs registered agent (noted below) in the manner provided by law.”?

Additionally since I have been a member I have been spammed by so-called Russian woman & I’m in the USA! Now, I am receiving emails asking me to re-join their site with a 15% discount. I just experienced the same scenario as another complaint posted here. On 4/32/08 I signed up for Match due to a promotion for 6 months free for a 1-year subscription. I was charged $119.94. In October I found out they charged me another $119.94 for a renewal. They did not send me a letter or email notifying me that my renewal was coming up, and if I was in danger of not qualifying for what turned out to be a qualifier for the 6 months free. They said for 2 months I only sent 1 or 2 emails, as opposed to the required 5. I think this is a really bad policy, as well as their no refund policy, for a variety of reasons. In my case I had to work internationally during those months and had limited time to use or access the internet for personal purposes, much less the focus.

I joined Match because it is recommended and rated one of the top dating services. I would not recommend this site to anyone, not only because of this reason but also because the quality of men is not up to par in most cases. I've heard eHarmony works better. In the end, I spoke to a supervisor who agreed to give me a partial refund of $86, which is better than nothing. The other option was to cancel this subscription and open another one to take advantage of a new promotion of 30% off for 6 months. I decided to the refund, because I don't want to use Match anymore. I appreciate her willingness to compromise, but I strongly warn anyone who signs up to read the find print, and note Match doesn't think they're obligated to warn you of an upcoming renewal. Buyer beware!

If I had read the complaints here about Match.com before the same thing happened to me, I would have assumed everyone here was whining or somehow deserved what happened. Then, the same thing happened to me as others here. On Friday I paid for a six-month membership. I was able to log on and communicate with someone already. Suddenly Saturday when trying to log on I was told, "Your account has been blocked, contact the executive team." Match.com makes it very hard to contact customer care and I sent a number of emails to the executive team and phoned customer service, getting their number not from the web page but by calling the only number I could find online for Match.com, the PR department. I got their attention somehow, and got an email from the executive team saying I was blocked to protect the Match.com community. They also said To protect the privacy of our members they would not release any information as to why I was blocked unless sent a subpoena. Flabbergasted again: I have never done anything wrong, have no criminal record, an an upstanding citizen, family man, business owner.. simply crazy.

My only guess of what happened might be, when I was on Match.com about a year ago for a month, I met a woman and we dated once. I ended it very politely, she was angry at me, she even posted something rude about my username in her profile, it was disturbing. I ended my service at that time. When I recently joined again this past Friday, her profile was one of the first on my list. Maybe she made some sort of false complaint? I am probably grasping at straws here, because there is absolutely no explanation for this, absolutely unbelievable. I do not understand why they would block someone without explaining why. It seems they must be making those decisions somehow, what else would spark them if not accusations from members? And if so, why would they not ask the other party for an explanation? It seems like the Salem witch hunt days. It seems strange, and very disturbing.

Match.com Nigeria scam in Google says it all. I am a paid subscriber of Match.com and was contacted by a **. The next day his subscription was to expire so he asked that I e-mail him at a Yahoo account. From there the love letters streamed in, every day, very detailed. I bought it for a little while thinking I had met Mr. Right. He worked in the family cocoa business with offices in Salinas and Nigeria. He was on his way to Nigeria because his mom was diagnosed with cancer and needed an operation. He said he ran out of cash and that his bank didn't do business with South Africa so could I send him money. Like an idiot I sent $200. After that he started asking for log on IDs and passwords, bank information and account numbers so he could have a client send me money so I could wire it to him.

I of course now am realizing what is happening and said no. I didn't hear from him for 3 days - which was odd since he wrote or called me every day. A friend sent me to Google to the Match.com Nigeria scam and I about died! Everything listed is exactly what I experienced. Down to the handsome/sexy pictures sent to me and the guy's accent. This is a HUGE problem it seems. I wouldn't have ever thought this could have happened to me on a paid for and reputable dating service. I have copies of all the pictures, phone numbers and e-mails this person sent me. Of course he really doesn't exist and some poor soul's pictures are being lifted from somewhere and they have no idea.

I understand Match.com can't police hundreds of thousands of profiles but I think they should take some responsibility in posting a warning note or inform all new members that this could happen and if it does to let them know and contact authorities. If I would have received a notice like that I would have been so much more aware of what was happening as soon as it started.

An e-mail went out to me informing me of a cancellation of membership. I am an educated person with values, virtues, and morals held in high regard. Every and I mean every e-mail I received was positive and a reminder to me that I was not alone in that respect. In other words, there was NO reason at all for Match.com to cancel my membership because it was for the safety of their Match community.

If anything I was a model member who is very honest, etc. And, like most men on these sites, I did not hunt women and flirt etc., with lies... I'm an attractive, very genuine person that was on the site for the right reasons. I would've hoped that Match.com vested the same interest in keeping their site or billion dollar scam as I've now learned, in the highest quality.

I understand that there are in fact rules necessary to protect citizens on Match that are threatened, etc. The same holds true for anyone, such as me, that was terminated for misinformation about me or slander or possibly NO reason at all. I was terminated however, for the protection of the Match community as they stated. I take that statement VERY personal and it is a direct condemnation of me and my character. that is unacceptable.

I am a victim in that sense and persuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I am entitled to all information regarding the cancellation of the membership to be disclosed to me. It was asked of me by legal@Match.com to send a subpoena to them requesting the information. My attorney stated to me that it wasn't necessary for a subpoena at all. F.O.I.A., he stated, was enough to allow the records/reasons to be released to me.

After several months and documents sent to them, I HAVE HEARD NOTHING at all from them. I intend to legaly pursue any person or persons whether Match.com directly or likewise regarding the tarnishment of my character, slander, or unsubstantiated reasons for the closure of my membership. I don't have any desire to be on ANY site again and this certainly was the last thing I thought would happen to me. I have nothing to hide and even suggested that every one of my e-mails with Match was reviewed and examined by them to prove how complimentary and benign they were. NO RESPONSE!

It is incredible that it was hard enough to show my face on the site let alone to be cancelled for the protection of the Match community. I am appalled and again know that I am not alone in this experience. Match should be held accountable for every action taken on behalf of an innocent victim such as myself.

I had signed up and been charged for a 3 month period with Match.com - There were several problems with the overall online experience, most related to several fake profiles which seem to equal about half of the potential matches. I was dissatisfied with match.com however I did not request a refund, I simply canceled my auto renewal option and thought that would be the end of that.

On 09/10/08 a mandatory evacuation was called for the area I live in due to Hurricane IKE. I had to evacuate and as a result I was without electricity or internet access from 09/11 to 09/23. I was shocked to see that I had been charged on 09/19 for match.com and so I sent them an email explaining that this was in their error and regardless of that fact, I was under a mandatory evacuation for a federally declared disaster area. There was absolutely no way I could check on my account to insure I was not charged.

I received an email that basically said they have an absolutely No Refund Policy - I then sent them 2 other emails further explaining how they were in the wrong and were in fact breaking federal law by charging me.
That was 3 days ago, I had not received a reply so I filed a compliant with the Governor of Texas, My bank, and the BBB (they have their phone BTW) and then called them to see what was happening with my refund. I was told that it had been forwarded to another department to determine if I was eligible for refund (apparently their no refund policy is a lie) You can contact that department directly using the email executiveteam@support.match.com.

I was told to email them for more information and as of Sept 29, I haven't heard any reply.

If this isn't resolved I have already contacted my bank, and according to them I can write a full account of what happened, and they may reverse the charge.

63.93 - At a time when I just spent over $500 on evacuation, this small amount meant the difference between eating a healthy meal, or spending hours in line at the food stamp office. They have cost me endless hours wasted pursuing this refund not to mention the financial stress this has put on me during a time of natural disaster.

First, I'll have to spend the money to renew in order to get rid of my profile. Second, How many of my e-mails were to women who have not actually been active on match? Looks like fraud to me if half of the women I e-mail aren't even there.
