So match.com has a 6 month guarantee that if you don't find love, then they'll extend your membership for another 6 months. They had this mechanism to track if you made an earnest effort each month in sending emails to 5 people per month. I fulfilled all the rules. After 6 months, I thought I was automatically extended the additinal 6 months. But no! They charged my credit card: $101.94 So I called them to contest the charge and request for my guaranteed 6 months. The customer service said that they had to forward my complaint to the executive team and that I'll get an email.
Sure enough, I got a impersonal, automated email saying that my account was resigned. I guess they esclate complaints by ignoring you and sending an email that doesn't address any of your complaints. So now, I contested the charge with my credit card company. Seeing all the other complaints, I'm not going to fight the 6 guaranteed months of free membership. I don't want to deal with match.com accidentally charging me again. Instead, I want to add to this long list of complaints about my own experiences and basically warn other consumers... buyer beware. Their guarantee is basically a lie and they do not care about their consumers. Please do not sign up with them.
Signed up with the intention of getting additional 6 months. It's a marketing trick to draw you in, sign up, and charge you for every penny that you have.

I am writing to make an official complaint against the well known and well renowned dating agency match.com. I am pretty certain they have breached the trading description act, by automatically renewing and charging a subscription which was not at any time clearly indicated when signing up to their services or indicated in writing asking my permission to do so.
Researching online there is a huge amount of consumers being stung by this illegitimate and dishonest procedure. Through complaining with Match.com they send an automatic response stating that they do not give refunds, though a number of consumers have been successful in getting one.
I am writing to you for your advice in this matter. I signed up 6 months ago, used their services for approximately 3 weeks and then hid my profile as I no longer required their services. So I have had an inactive account for 192 Days, why would I want to renew my subscription? And secondly why would I want to take out the longest 6 month subscription. Surely this is breaking the law, as well as breaching the fair trading and consumer practice?

I subscribed to match.com's dating service, and near the end of my first month I cancelled my account. Unfortunately, they billed me for the proceeding month (I was well within my time constraints in avoiding that fee upon cancellation). This happened a second time... After the second month, I was able to effectively cancel my account, however my profile, text and pictures remained active to the public domain.
I only suffered approximately $60+ in loss, however the fact that match.com didn't remove my profile (including photos, text and personal information) from the public domain put my anonymity at risk. I'm a very private person and need to be in my profession. It's also been an annoyance as I've met a wonderful woman, and I keep recieving winks, and we're both irritated that my match.com profile's still available. I was assured two times by two customer reps that this would be handled.
Match.com? I horrible, ineffectual experience through a dishonest organization who's customer service skills are non-existant. I had to fight until the bitter end to cancel my account and all related info. I still don't know what the ramifications of my public info being displayed and available is, and perhaps won't know. I feel violated and would discourage ANY single male and/or female from participating in this match-making service.

I was doing a routine audit of my checking account and discovered an unauthorized charge from Match.com for $108. I contacted their customer service department and informed them that this was not an authorized charge and that I did not wish to continue using the service. The agent asked why I didn't like the service, perhaps trying to warrant a valid excuse.
I said I'd wasted enough time and wanted a charge back/credit. He then informed me that they have a no refund policy. Really?.. Well, I didn't OK to auto renew and didn't receive any renewal notices. Not sure how that's even legal.
Since the charge is in a pending status at my bank, I have to wait for it to officially be taken before I can fight it from the bank side. The bank told me I might want to close my account and open a new one too.

I have been a member for a long time on and off. I signed up for their "pay for six months, get six months free if you don't meet anyone" promotion. Well the six months passed and I did not meet anyone of quality from their site. They ended my subscription and it took days to reach someone to have them honor my free six months.
Over the six free months I have dated a few people from the site, but nothing that materialized. As my free months was expiring, I got an email stating that they feel it was best for their community to terminate my profile. The email reads that I broke their terms, or that someone issued a complaint against me. I haven't even corresponded with anyone in several months let alone inappropriately! They would not disclose the reasons why and said I would need to subpoena their records for the details! I can't even pay and renew my membership!
I have read their terms and have done nothing wrong.

I dropped out of match.com 1/1/08 and thought I had deleted all my personal address/bank account information. I received a charge to my bank, a debit without the proper code to go with it.
Match.com gave me the run around for 20 minutes today and would not say they were giving me a credit and would not say they would remove my personal identifiable information including my bank information.
If I don't hear within 3 days from them I'm filing a complaint with the FTC and charges with my bank.

Match.com makes money by violating people's privacy by listing people who have asked to be taken off the service. It appears that Match.com keeps users listed, and their profiles visible via RIM's Blackberry devices, in an attempt to boost the apparent number of subscribers. My girlfriend of 3 months broke up with me while she was away on vacation because she looked up my profile on her blackberry and saw that it was back up. I tried the same exercise on MY Blackberry's and sure enough, up came MY profile, even though my subscription is inactive and I had checked the box to keep my profile hidden.
As you know, trust is an important concept in any relationship. Many people who have met on match.com check up on partners to see if they have, in fact, stayed off the site since they have met. And I tell you from personal experience. I have relied on match.com, as a customer of theirs, to respect my privacy and allow me to control when my profile is and is not 'active'. They have violated my privacy and cost me a valued friendship by continuing to keep my profile visible to Blackberry users in an attempt to boost the number of apparent users of their system. This is simply outrageous!
My girlfriend of 3 months broke up with me! Through no fault of my own, because of something she saw on match.com via her blackberry that showed my profile as active, even though I had turned the profile off and checked the box marked keep my profile hidden. While the profile is hidden to normal computer users, it is kept turned on for users accessing the site via their Blackberries. This is outrageous. An email to match.com - they do not provide a phone number - has not been responded to.

On March, 1, 2008, I checked my bank account, and it was over drown by $29.99. My bank inform me that it was from Match.com. I was very surprised because I only used this site one time about two years ago. The bank informed me that Match.com has been taking $29.99 out of my bank account since Dec. 2005. I have a lot of bills coming out of my account every pay and did not find out about this until I was in overdraft in my bank account. I had no idea that they where still taking money out after the trial time. All they have to do is pull my e-mail up see that I have not used match.com for two years or more, and I just wanted to know if there is a chance that I can get my money back.
If I would have known that this money was coming out of my account, I would have stopped it a long time ago. When I called Match.com, I was informed that they were only able to refund that $29.99 for that one time, and I would have to contact www.executiveteam@match.com to make a dispute. This site is what came up. So I really do not know what to do. I lost at least $700.00 and never used that service for that time.

Match.com sends bogus winks and email contacts to members. When I initially signed up, I almost immediately received several winks & emails from incredibly beautiful, much younger women who were hundreds and thousands of miles away from me and obviously fake. On another occasion, after altering my profile and expressing my dissatisfaction with women who post very old pictures of themselves, I again received several bogus winks & emails from members who were thousands of miles away from me. It seems that any time a member gets discouraged or complains about the lack of viable matches or is nearing the end of their membership, match.com tries to keep you interested by sending FAKE contacts. I saw some potential candidates, so I paid match.com my money and joined. Once I was a paid, registered member, I did the exact, same search again. But this time, the MAJORITY of candidates returned had NO PICTURE posted. Matter of fact, when I did the PRELIMINARY SEARCH, I wrote down the screen names of the ladies I was interested in. But once I paid my money, they vanished! Within MINUTES of registering, I emailed customer service, expressed my dissatisfaction and told them to refund my money. They told me they could not do that. Match.com engages in deceptive advertising practices to lure consumers into spending money with them. I want to sue Match.com! My wife died on November 11, 2006, and it has taken me a year and a half to get up the courage to try and find someone to go to dinner with. I am upset and feel like I have had money stolen from me.
Well, I am out the fee to join, and no telling how many others they have scammed. Plus, I will NEVER visit another dating site as long as I live. Match.com is a dating website. I am a Puerto Rican woman. I went out on a date with another member who is Jewish. I emailed him afterward to let him know that I wasn't interested in seeing him again. In response, he sent me a series of text messages which became progressively more hostile. One of his text messages read: "God I actually thought I met a **** with class. Lavare mi quatro banos." That last sentence was Spanish for: Wash my four bathrooms. He also told me that I should stick to my own kind. I emailed a formal complaint to Match.com customer service as well as the Executive Team, apprising them of this member's racist comments. I expressed concerns about this member being able to remain on the website with the potential to approach other Hispanic women. I told them it wasn't fair to the other Hispanic women who might go out with him, unaware of how he feels about the Hispanic race. I also forwarded this member's text message to Match.com and welcomed them to contact me if they were in need of further information.
As I never received a response from them, I followed up my complaint with two phone calls. The customer service representatives said that they could not disclose the nature of the investigation Match.com made in response to my complaint because of their obligation to protect the privacy of their members. I told them that I wasn't looking for this member's private information. I just wanted to know what they did in response to my complaint. However, the representatives said that they could not give me any further information. I think nothing was done as this member remains on the website. It seems receipt of this individual's membership fees, is more important to Match.com than protecting their members from someone who has been proven to be a racist.

I signed up in December 2005 for three months for $56. A lot of jerks contacted me. I then met someone a week later and we've been together ever since. Yesterday I was going through my checking acct statement and see a $59 charge from match.com I called them up. They said they'd been charging me $59 every three months for the last three years. They said I agreed to auto renew. I did not. Not only did they auto-renew me without my consent but they never sent an email or letter telling me they were charging me. On top of this they raised the price on me. That's a change in contract. That's not legal here in California. I got them to refund three months, then I asked to speak to supervisor. I got another three months, then I asked to speak to her supervisor. They put me on hold forever then said the supervisor didn't want to talk to me. I just made a report with the Better Business Bureau. Match.com wasn't even listed there. Everyone should complain there. Match.com is in Texas but the rest of us are in different states, countries with different laws that Match.com is breaking. Another thing, don't pour your heart and soul on your profile. Jerks use that as a script and they become whatever you say you want in their profile. Soon you will see it's all a lie. Be careful online dating. Theoretically it sounds like a great way to meet someone but only if both parties are honest and ethical.

I too am one of the many (perhaps thousands?) that did not accept the auto renewal policy. I did not use my account on the following day and immediately contacted customer service to cancel and obtain a refund. To my knowledge I DID check the do not auto-renew button in "prefs". Either way, they claimed that I had used my account after the expiration, giving them the right to bill me $60.00. I have contacted them for proof of use and then cannot verify the usage that I did send emails, which I DID NOT. NOTE: They admit they use East Coast time. I am on West Coast time. That means my account, according to them, actually canceled at 9:00 PM, my time.
I signed up for 3 months with the intention that that was the only time they would bill me. Now, I looked on my most recent credit card bill and noticed that they renewed me against my wishes. I called them to try to get the charge reversed, and they refused because buried within their terms in conditions, they state that they will auto-renew the account after the end of the first subscription term. They didn't even email me to notify me that my account had been renewed. To make matters worse, their customer service was extremely callous and condescending and refused to answer many of my direct questions, instead answering them with textbook, annoying techniques from their sales manual. In fact, the supervisor I spoke to claimed that they had notified me about the renewal because they had posted a note about it on my account page. She told me it was my responsibility as the customer to read the 'my account' page periodically to see if they had charged me for anything new against my wishes. To me this is utterly unacceptable. They refused to refund my $60, and the rudeness and condescension of the customer service rep and supervisor really upset me.

I joined match.com and thought it strange that a slew of the same men were still registered. I already knew of one man who was unaware he was still on their website. Another man was not active match but still had his photo and all the information about him - indicating he was available. In our 2 e-mails, he never let me know. Then, he wanted to meet for dinner. Instead, I wanted to talk by phone. The conversation began, and I thought he might be suffering from a slight memory loss. He wanted to know about me (which, I assumed, meant he wanted to learn more about me - WRONG!). He wanted me to send him photos (I thought he meant MORE photos than were on the website). Then he would repeat the same questions, indicating he either had not listened or he had memory loss. I questioned him about this, and that's when I learned he didn't even know he was on match. Then he began to get vulgar. I then sent him an e-mail saying he should cease contact.
This man looked up my town. Knowing I had an interest in art, he saw THE FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS. (I was listed as doing a basic drawing class), and he was able to access my phone number and address. He tried calling after that one conversation, but I hung up. He still has my exact address, and I am concerned. He must have been drunk when we talked, and he indicated driving from his town to mine--an easy drive. I e-mailed match.com telling of my complaint (showing photos and profiles of men who didn't even know they were still listed: one ended his over 6 mo. ago, and another ended his over a year ago!!) and demanding my 3 mo. money down payment to be refunded.
They were violating their own promises. Not only was this man not active, but match still continues to have his information. Because he was listed, I was able to contact him. I have been a Match member for two months. Many matches had the same pictures with the same profile information but different names--leading you to believe that these were all separate individuals, which they weren't. Many matches were able to wink or send you emails, but you were unable to see their profiles. One match individual asked me to help him cash money orders that he was unable to cash abroad, and wanted the money wired to him. (I declined to assist him.) Would receive many winks (5 to 10) in a day, and none of them would ever respond; also sent out many winks and emails, and those members would never respond either. Way too many sent for not one response.
I feel that Match.com is misleading individuals to believe there are interested parties when in fact there are none. I also feel that some women might not have been smart enough to say no to a member asking for help in cashing those money orders and could have been out thousands of dollars. All in all I think Match is selling a product that isn't working the way that it should. People aren't getting what they paid for, and it is fraud.

Well, 6 months ago I signed up for the 6 months guarantee on Match.com. I uploaded all of my photos, contacted at least 5 members every month and my profile was always visible. During the first 4 months of my membership I was switching photos and updating my profile and every month I received all of my check marks that I had complied with the program. I noticed at the beginning of month 6 that I had a check for failure to upload a primary photo. I called customer service and spoke with Cathy. She told me that there was no problem and it would not impact my subscription.
I went to log into my Match account to check emails and the site was asking me to resubscribe. I called customer service and spoke to Katrina. She told me that my guarantee was revoked because I changed primary photos. No where does it say that you can't change photos. She told me to contact executiveteam@match.com to file a complaint, but I received no response.
The 6 month guarantee is completely bogus and I would tell anyone that asks that the site is not worth joining.

Make Love Happen Guarantee by Match.com is fraudulent program.
I had given Match.com another chance after unsuccessful, expensive paid membership attempts for at least 4 (four) years or more by signing up to their Make Love Happen Guarantee program.
I was surprised to notice that for MONTH 2, the Progress Track showed a red exclamation mark. The red exclamation mark indicates that you dont their minimum requirements for the Make Love Happen Guarantee program. One of the requirements is you must send an email to a minimum of 5 (five) members that you never emailed previously, every month, for 6 (six) consecutive months.
During Month 2, I vividly remembered seeing the notice Good work! You've contacted 5 members this month. The thing that bothers me the most is that I did not see the red exclamation mark in MONTH 2 until MONTH 4! So somewhere along the line, someone did something to the system to cause that to happen.
I read the Program Rules carefully before joining this program, made a commitment to myself, to ensure that I meet one of the requirements, which is to send a minimum of 5 (five) qualified emails to other Match.com members. The technique that I used to remind myself to do so was by book-marking at least 5 (five) qualified members each month and I did that during Month 2.
I called Match.com and complained. Everyone I spoke to was like a robot, incompetent, and did not care to address my issue at all. You cannot speak with a manager/supervisor. Finally, one of them suggested me to write to executiveteam@match.com. I sent an email to that address 3 (three) times, and I did not get any reply from them.

They advertised a three-day free trial but made you actually sign up for one month At $34 something. After this, I assumed they would contact me to see if I wanted to continue for 12 months at a much much lower rate for the full year. They did not and I realized that they were continuing to provide service. I went online and found that I would have to ACTUALLY CANCEL if I wanted to discontinue. They were automatically charging me the highest rate of $34.95. So I cancelled.
I was careful to ensure that they did not continue to charge me again. They had charged me in February, and the beginning of March. Then this is when I cancelled. I found out that they ALSO charged again at the end of March. I went online and made sure that the system was cancelled, just a few days ago in April. I got an e-mail to say that it had been cancelled and I queried this with them, asking for reassurance, but they did not respond.

I told Visa I wanted a refund on the last payment and that they were never ever to honour anything to Match.com again. Match.com continued to sporadically charge my credit card long after I cancelled my account. First let me say, when it comes to reading the fine print I'm about the most anal person in the world. I always compulsively read every single detail, as I did when I signed up for a three month subscription to Match.com. A few days before the end of my three months I followed step-by-step their cancellation process and confirmed it more than once.
A few days ago I noticed $50 charge from Match.com. I had signed up for the service last June and cancelled in early September, and now this is nine months later in March. I called and talked to a sedate, uninterested customer service representative who simply kept repeating to me that Match.com has an autorenewal system that I failed to opt out of. No matter what I said about taking every step indicated on their site to cancel, she would just pause, sigh, and then repeat her mantra. I wanted to pull my hair out.
She told me that I had been charged this amount every three months since June because of this autorenewal system. However, being the obsessive compulsive that I am, I have every single credit card statement dating back to June. Oddly, I was charged in June, which was when I initially signed up and which was authorized. So if this was an autorenewal issue, then I should have been charged again in September. I was not. There is no Match.com charge again until December - unauthorized. Then again this month, March - unauthorized.
If the renewal was automatic, then why wasn't I automatically charged in September? I'll tell you why: because I cancelled and I confirmed and the account was closed. It required some other intervention for this charge to be made again several months later. As a business it must be really nice to have lifelong access to peoples' credit cards and the ability to charge them at will.
When we cancel, our credit card information should be removed from their records. If business dips but some employees still want to upgrade their Beamers, why not squeeze a little extra from those easily-accessible cancelled accounts? What's to stop them? Reading all the other postings on this board, the answer is obviously, nothing. The customer "service" rep refused to give me a refund for the most recent charge even though it was charged less than a week ago. She's going to prorate my latest subscription and allow me to pay for only one month and still have access to the service up until April 18.
I told her I don't want access to the crappy service for any time at all, but she said that's the best she could do. My, how generous. I called my credit card company and had the number changed and a new card reissued so that this parasite, Match.com, can't continue feeding off it. They put up such a good, positive front in all their advertising. How disappointing.
I took a course in Contracts a long time ago and know that there are laws against charging people for goods and services when there is lack of an action on the payee's part authorizing it. Something to the effect of, "absense of an action cannot imply consent." I know it derived from the times when book and music companies would send thier products out unsolicited and enclosed a message saying that if the person did not respond it would be assumed that they wanted the product and they would thereafter be charged for it. I really think similar reform is needed with all this online autorenewal stuff and with these companies maintaining lifelong access to our credit cards.

I had to send at least three e-mails over a week-long period before I received any response. When I did receive a response, it was curt and rude. They stated that according to the user agreement, their service automatically re-bills your credit card unless you cancel your membership.
