I joined many years ago when CM was free. After several years of barely using the site I was offered a "deal" - pay for a year and receive a full refund. The "refund" was an invitation to a catalog site. Then, surprise! Auto renewed in a year at 3x the initial price. I never authorized that, but when I called to get a refund I was told "no refunds." In an attempt to lure me back I'm notified of several visits to my profile. Bogus! Why pay anything for this site? I guess CM can't attract enough advertisers. Most social media sites are free, which ensures subscribers, which ensures advertisers.

Classmates will not refund. My ONLY option was to change my profile to disallow auto renewal. I had all my information removed from their site. I had weekly and sometimes daily email concerning profile visits but nothing about a 96.00 auto renewal. If your information is on this site I recommend removing it and discontinue any association. I now have a 2 year subscription to nothing therefore nothing changed other than my information being removed.

I don’t use PayPal often, and only recently started logging in again after a couple of years with PayPal. Yesterday I was charged $21.60 for a sub subscription that I canceled over a year ago with classmates.com. When I went to log on the site there was no account found for me. Meanwhile, I’m getting charged $21.60 every three months for almost 2 years since I canceled after the three month trial. I exchanged emails with their customer service for the past two days telling them what happened and then I wanted a refund for what they took from me. I was told that no account was found. I gave them three different emails. The only ones that I have that it would be under and they couldn’t find it.

Funny how I could be getting charged every three months for an account that I don’t have. Finally I called the phone number off of PayPal and talked to a representative today who found my previous account. He was very helpful but told me there are no refunds and Said my account would now be canceled on the spot. Funny that I’m told that when nobody could find an account for me, I couldn’t logon anywhere, but they’ve been taking money from my bank. Then you find an account today and so you cancel it now? This was not the man’s fault who I was talking to today. He actually helped me but reiterated the no refund policy. I’m now out over $180 total due to this fares of a company. My recommendation would be to stay far, far away.

They not only did not advise me of my classmates reunion, they charged me $96 for a renewal on my Discover card number which they did not have (just looked it up internally) because I had closed the old card and got a new one after they charged me an autorenewal the previous year. I never ever signed up for a renewal and even had it in the SPAM folder. Then I called Discover card and told them this was an unauthorized renewal that I never signed agreement for. They supposedly did a search and reversed the credit for the charge.

Discover just stole my money and Discover card (who used to reverse unauthorized charges) allowed classmates.com to steal my money insisting they had some contract that I do not have for autorenewal. Now, I have to work hard to pay off my Discover card so I can close it because they have been corrupted since they were bought out by Chase. Obviously, they are bed with each other. Since I have been unemployed for 5 months, they stole my money and I want it back. You can't trust both of them!!! They are both now a national con team! I joined this website. Actually several years ago, but did not renew. However, I did a 3 month renewal recently that was to expire Dec. 31st. Unbeknownst to me, they retained my payment information, put me on automatic renewal, renewed me WITHOUT notification a renewal (which I had not authorized) was taking place. I keep a prepaid card especially for online orders to prevent scammers like them from hacking my account. I put money on the card when I'm going to place an order for that amount, then place the order immediately. Thus....a scammer (like this site) may "get me"...but not for much.

I had put money on my prepaid card for a medicine order on Dec 27 and these sleazy crumbs took an automatic automatic renewal from my card on Dec 29th. I had not approved nor authorized any such renewal. They did not notify me a "renewal" was going to happen. Because of this, an important lifesaving medical order was canceled. These sleazeballs had jumped in. Without my permission and taken money causing the APPROVED payment to be canceled. I am now trying to get this resolved at 4:30 in the morning so my medication will ship. Don't use this website!!

They apparently do notify for one and two year memberships. I found out when I received a PayPal notice of payment. I think they do this to get at least one additional payment from people who don't want a long membership and who don't read the pages of fine print. I am not going to continue my membership. The website is okay, but I got lots of email notices, most of which are them telling me someone has looked at my profile or I have a new notification, most of which were from classmates.com and very few from my own classmates. It was okay to have this prior to my reunion, but I don't see using it year after year.

Wow... 2,404 reviews so far as of Dec 22, 2024 and 96% of them (2,307/2,404) are only a "1" score which is the worst review score available. Nearly all reviews are about the auto-renew charge... and there is no doubt that not a one of them will ever subscribe again. Just seems to me that if they lowered their price to $19.95 a year or so (instead of $48/yr) and then always provided at least 2 emails several days prior to the auto-charge.. they might get a majority of those folks to accept the auto-renew and be happy about it... and thus, those folks would likely tell all their friends... and the site would have a lot more happy customers and bring in more income.

Just a very bad policy with absolutely no concern whatsoever whether they retain good customers or not. More like a money hungry wolves who cannot see past their own noses. Classmates would rather 'scam' money from potential customers with a somewhat deceptive auto-renew policy than actually earn it via treating customers right.

They renewed my membership without sending me a renewal notice that this would occur even though their site states they will send an email reminder 30-35 days prior to renewal. They state they will not refund either but I'm going to dispute the charge. Plus, you don't really get any benefit from the $60 yearly fee since to see any messages, etc., you have to upgrade to a premium account. Bait and switch. DO NOT USE THIS SITE OR YOU WILL REGRET DOING SO.

I don't understand how this could happen since the card they used wasn't valid. I'm canceling this merchant as well as my Prime visa for this reason. Horrible policies for consumers using VISA!

They also will not allow refunds, which there is no justification in doing. If I could give 0 stars I would. Classmates will sign you up for a membership without your knowledge and charge you without your authorization. I had signed up for a membership like 5 years after I graduated high school. Cancelled a month later. Recently I searched for someone who passed away from suicide. So they sign me up for a membership, based on me searching.

Customer Service says no they don't, and says I've signed up 7 times. If I wanted a membership why would I sign up 7 different times? Unless the times I did a search on someone, and the system automatically signs me up, without my authorization. I know that's what happened because I used a debit credit card that I only keep $5 on it. Unless I pay a bill or purchase something, and that's when I put more money onto it. So classmates was finally able to charge me since I put money on it to purchase something. And I do this because of this reason right here. Because of unsavory businesses trying to sign you up and take your money without your authorization. Be careful going on classmates doing a search on people. You will be signed up for a membership automatically without your knowledge or your say so. You can see their star rating from other people, not good!

They would get 0 stars from me but they force you to provide 1 star at least. Do NOT purchase a yearbook from them. It's a horrible reprint. They literally make a photocopy from a physical yearbook so the copy is blurry and is a degraded version of the original. They will not make it right or allow you to return it. Just flat out the money. So the yearbook section of Classmates is horrible. Do not waste your money on a low quality product. Save money and mental anguish and I plan to file a complaint with BBB and my state attorney General for this drastic misrepresentation of quality. A reprint thinking they bought the rights to the original picture pages of the former yearbook companies but they just scan old yearbooks and reprint from that distorted copy making it so hazy and blurry in all the pictures. A total disappointment and very expensive for a piece of crap reprint.

I also did a further search about the company and found that they have been involved in several Class Action lawsuits. Maybe they need to have another one, because they sure have not learned their lesson. My advice to everyone is avoid signing up for a subscription at all costs. They will rob you of your money and then refuse to refund it. PayPal won't even back up their customers who have used their service to pay for a Classmates.com service.

I still want my $96 back because my account is currently overdrawn. But they do not give a rat's ** if they have cleaned out your account. Again, avoid this company like the plague. I signed up for 1 month as I was curious as to who was still alive [I'm 74] from my high school class. The company automatically renewed the subscription for 3 months and when I requested termination and refund on the day of the charge going on my credit account they refused my request. They merely told me that at the end of the next three months it would not be renewed again. This has never happened before with any company I have ever dealt with and thus no one else should ever deal with this company. I found out that they had Classmates that had passed away in 2018 still listed as members of the Classmates and I posted on their site the Obituaries of these two people. I wasn't interested in looking for any more dead people so I did not want to renew the subscription for erroneous information.

They provided standardized replies to credit card companies making it near impossible to do a denial for credit card chargebacks. Beware of them and only contact them with email or hard copy communication. They did not provide facts about their automatic renewals or no refund policy even when you don't use the services.

Classmates charged my financial institution $18.00 for what I thought was a manual renewal at one year. Classmates charged me $36.00 on September 24, 2021 that I did not authorize period. Twenty-four months later on September 24, 2023, I was charged $96.00 a recurrent payment from September 24, 2021. ACCOUNT INFORMATION
    Account type: 24 Month
    Expiration date: September 24, 2025

    Renewal option: Manual

I do not understand why a 24 account would last from 2021 to 2025, four years. There is NO WAY to cancel the subscription online. Other reviews state users called to cancelled their subscriptions; however, their account is never cancelled. I paid on Pay Pal; therefore, Pay Pal cancelled my subscription from there. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH CLASSMATES, they are SCAM ARTIST. They are breaking Federal Trade Commission laws for recurrent payments.

I have been with them now for 13 years. In that time, I have seen all kinds of anomalies and nefarious practices of these people. Everything from Classmates allowing Realtors to list, buy and sell on their website ( free of charge while the rest of us members pay for the service), to placing the names of the deceased on their lists, to allowing members 2 and sometimes 3 separate profiles, to falsely telling their members that they received a visit from another classmate to only find out that no one was there and that the number of classmates that you had visited you, has somehow been erased by 2, 3 or 5 members? On top of that yet, I will get notices that someone has updated their profile or provided a new picture, when in fact, it's the old picture that was used 15 years ago when they started.

In addition to this, many of the members are deceased but yet they are treating that person's profile, like they are still alive.

One former classmate is using this "Classmates.com site" as a free vehicle for selling his real estate. Classmates management is stating that it's okay. So I asked them if I could go on and sell boats, old cars, plants, or my collection of socks or tea cups.? Is it all okay? What Classmates have done, is turned their "school gathering" website into an online flea market. When a member is allowed to post 150 pictures of houses that he is selling or has sold, or would love to sell, then this has nothing to do with classmate connections as it is a free forum to advertise and clutter up the site. These practices are shameful and should stopped at once. Last but not least, there is no Managers or Supervisors to speak with at Classmates. None. No one in charge.

Funny part is that they don't ask if you want to renew, they just assume you want to renew, (bad business) so beware.

I did not receive any notice I was going to be charged $18. They are auto-renewing members and that is totally unfair and should be stopped! A few days ago they charged my new Visa card that I only had for 2 months the new $18.00 renewal fee. I did NOT give them this new account number and I don't know how they got it. I had closed my old Visa acc't. I contacted classmates via e-mail. They did respond but refused to refund my money. I advised them that they apparently got my new acc't number through fraudulent means.

Obviously it does NO good to complain to this company so I sent a formal complaint via e-mail to the Washington State Attorney General Office, Consumer Affairs dept. crcmail@atg.wa.gov. Classmates is domiciled in Washington so I figured this is the best place to complain. They did reply to my complaint so I am going to hold it for 45 days before I follow up. If you are a member of Classmates, watch out for the "AUTOMATIC" renewal feature. If you are on automatic renewal, the new renewal amount has been increased ENORMOUSLY and it is not refundable. Classmates sends out an abundance of emails from what I feel are "fake" visits to my Classmates profile. It's always the same person with nothing to say. So, after a period of time receiving emails on a daily basis, I eventually started ignoring emails coming from Classmates. That was not a smart thing to do because somewhere in one of those daily emails that I began ignoring was an obscure email that stated they would be increasing the renewal fee from $32(+-) to $96.00. I had not been watching my emails closely and got caught automatically renewing my membership... $96.00 gone before my eyes.

It is just my opinion, but I believe Classmates knows that if they send out numerous emails, eventually people will start ignoring them and that is when they have an opportunity to sneak in a notice of their increased membership fee. Then they refer you to the Terms of Service that says membership fees are not refundable. I am just here to say, play it safe. Do not opt for the automatic membership fee or you might get caught with a lot of money taken out of your account before you are wholly aware of it. I think it is a bad way of doing business and now I will never use or recommend Classmates again.

I have recently canceled my account because there is no longer an unsubscribe option and we'll see how long it takes for them to reinstate it.

But In fairness to them I'll make it clear they have never billed me or been able to get money from me. But I continue to unsubscribe, and now cancelled my account, and a couple of months later I'll start getting emails from them again. Very annoying people. The fact that they are putting numbers up there now instead of your email address as having had your account cleared tells me that they are possibly putting new account numbers when they reinstate their annoying emails. I had to threatened to take further steps to have this situation resolved. Some people like to blame others for their life mistakes, and if they are emotionally disturbed, this can be frightening. I can't be on classmates because of a crazy lady stalker from 1981.

Original Review: I was on Classmates for awhile, until recently, I started being stalked by a crazy person from middle school, yes, you read that right! This person was harassing me from site to site. Most sites offer a block button, not classmates! Too much to ask! After days of this happening by a strange woman named Josephine, Josephina, Jo, Miaetta **. Mind you, I even changed my name to avoid this person! I did finally get in touch with someone who was able to deactivate my account. Classmates did do a follow-up, that person was nice.

Enter Peggy **! Peggy doesn't return calls. Peggy doesn't answer emails, not sure what Peggy does, nothing is my guess! I did ask if this stalker was removed from classmates. I was told that an investigation was happening, as I sent every derogatory email I received to cm! I was also informed that because of privacy, I would not be informed of the results of the investigation! Her privacy! Her privacy! Are you serious? What about my privacy, my life? I guess only a stalker has rights, not the person she threatened or harassed! Peggy is a joke at her job, so is classmates.com. This is the 3rd time I have had an issue with this person and this site! The last too! Update your site and add a privacy button, some people need to stay in the past for a reason!

Classmates.com allows users to "unlike" photographs of other members of the site. This allows petty, spiritually and emotionally underdeveloped individuals to express their dislike for a fellow classmate or alumnus of their high school. What a ridiculous feature to allow on a social media site! It seems as though Classmates.com is attempting to engender and promote the same idiotic, "clique-oriented" environment as existed so very many forgotten years ago in high school, working to the detriment of those who have moved on in maturity and wisdom from their naive high school days and working to the advantage of those petty, regressed "popular" kids who express their envy and prejudice through the Classmates.com site by checking off the "unlike" button associated with the photograph of a classmate.

I decided to remove my profile from the Classmates.com site because I don't need or want to put up with the retarded, immature silliness of certain classmates and also the site sponsors, who are themselves oblivious to the rights and privacy of their subscribers. I haven’t been scammed by them or anything, I signed up for a free trial just to check the site out, and surprisingly wasn’t charged anything (yet...)! Knowing the reputation, I was fully expecting to be. However, the site is basically useless. I don’t know if it’s coded improperly for mobile browsers (the only ones I’ve used it on), but most of the links merely take you back to your own main profile page, not to the page you intended.

There’s really no way to browse the schools, not that was working for me; I’m using an iPhone 11 Pro Max, maybe it works on older phones? I do doubt it, though. I would click a link to, say, a school’s name, and it would just dump me back to my own profile. Want to check out a yearbook? Too bad; back to your profile. Even when I try looking through my own profile to see which schools I’ve listed, it keeps dumping me back to the main profile page! I remember even the free version letting you look through the lists of users. What happened? Did I lose this feature by paying for the service? Why!?

I think the constant shifts in focus and direction have crippled the coding of the site, nothing works as intended, or at least works in a fashion the average user would reasonably expect to be intended. Oh, slight bit of screwing: Even though I had a free trial, and it claimed it wouldn’t sign me up for autobilling, it did. Luckily I had assumed it would, it was the first thing I checked, so I stopped it. My free trial hasn’t expired yet, I’ll find out if they autorenew me anyway in, like, February, or something. Waste of time, waste of money, even for free. The novelty of what it claims to offer isn’t even there because you can’t actually use the service as advertised!

Beware of the agreement statement. Further the site is not worth the money anyway. It's a big "come on" with promotional email like "guess who is checking you out". Most schools now have their own Facebook page where you can interact with your former classmates. When challenged Classmates comes up with that agreement statement. So beware..the customer service is terrible. I keep getting emails how to cancel subscription but no answer to the issue, that is, the refund of 72.00. It's just not worth the further headache.

I did NOT sign up for automatic renewal yet I just found 2 additional charges on my debit card from them, one in Aug for $15 and one yesterday for $18. I tried to log into my account to see what's going on and it wouldn't accept my login even though it was auto-filled in chrome. I tried to use the forgot password option but the site says they have no record of an account for my email address, even though it's the same one they inundate with multiple emails per week about new messages and visits to my profile. I tried clicking the profile link in one of the emails and magically logged me in, but the messages were only more spam from them asking me to sign up for a paid membership. This confirms that I do NOT Have a paid membership with them, yet they're still taking money from my card! Just... what?

I went to the account section to try and shut down my entire profile and wouldn't you know, the site then logged me out and wouldn't let me log in again. Can't have people cancelling their memberships, I guess. I tried contacting them via the form on their site about the charges and no surprise, I didn't get a response. This company is a full blown scam. I've disputed the charges with my bank and had to get a new debit card. Let's hope they don't somehow get ahold of my new card number, if I see any more charges from them I will be contacting a lawyer. Yes, I am petty enough to sue over this. This is fraud and theft, plain and simple. My bank was able to find a contact number for them, if anyone else needs it it's 206-301-5900. I haven't called yet but I have a feeling I'll get no answer or the same run-around others have gotten.

My credit card was charged membership fees for 2 years even though my Classmates account had been expired last year. I could only email the support team because I couldn't find a phone number on their site anywhere. They gave confusing information. First, they couldn't find the credit card it was charged to, tried to tell me it may be a family member using my card. Wrong. Then they reversed this year's $48 charge and the next day told me it was not refunded by Classmates.com, but by my bank. My bank said it was refunded by the merchant. Do you guys know what you're doing over there?!

The $39 charge from last year (which I only discovered this year) is just my loss, they refuse to refund it even though my account was expired all of last year. I asked how I can be sure this won't happen next year and was advised the credit card information has been deleted from my Classmates account. So, I guess they were able to find my credit card information after all. You can bet I'll be looking for a charge from them next year. I am not satisfied with the outcome. Do not buy this membership as a one-time or auto-renew because they will take your money each year regardless. Terrible company!!

Phone calls to their office and extended conversations with their staff resulted in a refund (and my ending my free membership)....but the very fact that it took heated conversations, my refusal to accept their scripted answers to serious questions, and in the end I had to play my "I'm an old man on social security" card to get them to act human is disgusting. I've never had a problem with them before....but they've never reached into my bank account before and removed my money. It's a great service to remind old people like myself of their school days....but it's just plain awful to take our money and then act like they are doing us a favor when they issue a refund.

I sent a second request, no response. I contacted the BBB and filed a complaint. Only then did I receive a response with a statement: “we are issuing a refund.” I would not recommend any membership with this organization.

Original Review: I was billed for the next quarter of membership that I did not know was being billed, did not want this service, and the customer service department would not respond to my request for refund. I called and spoke to a young lady to explain that he had canceled previously and this was not a justified charge. She said she would "be sure to cancel" his membership which should have been done the first time he called, but she would not refund the erroneous charge. I also followed up with this company by email. To date, I have received no response. My next step is to file a complaint with the FTC if I don't hear back that this issue has been resolved. I decided to give it a try again, hoping things might be better this time. Big mistake! Things are even worse than they were backed in! I'm not able to find anything in there. I try to find people whose names start with R', S's or T', and it keeps throwing me back to the pages with the A's B's and C's. I have hunted and hunted for hours and hours and hours trying to find an alphabet so I can select which page I wish to see.

I even wrote to them about it and they gave me a non-answer. I'm still not able to get to the R's, S's or T's without going page by page all the way through starting at the A's time after time after time. Nowhere on my screen am I able to locate an alphabet! This is one of the problems I had with them 15 years ago! Shame on me for giving them another chance. That is only one of my problems with them. I also can't seem to really communicate with anyone or find out anything or follow conversations on message boards. There used to be a message board. Where the hell is it? It's a very lonely experience maneuvering your way around on classmates.com. Very lonely. It's nearly impossible to deal with.

Another problem is they keep showing me the same pictures every day in my email. I keep getting messages like somebody shared a new picture so I go in there and look and it's the same stupid pictures I've been looking at for 3 months now! Not only that if I don't remember to remove my damn visit, it is notifying people that I'm checking out their profiles when I'm not! It's just that they keep shoving those pictures into my face and then telling those people that I'm visiting their profile! The onus should not beyond us to remove our visits from profiles we never intended to visit anyway! These people suck big time! Please read all of these reviews before you step in it like I did!

You'll have a better chance of finding your old friends on Facebook than you ever will on classmates.com. I told them to cancel my membership and take my name off the list! I'm really mad at myself for falling for it again! But this is the last time that will ever happen. This is absolutely the worst website I've ever been to! Now you couldn't start a discussion with anyone and they took away so many things you use to be able to do... and when I try to look at all my albums that I had put pictures in you couldn't see them.

So I contacted customer service. They told me they would check into it and find out what happened after they upgraded their website. About 4 months went by and I contacted them again saying I'm still not able to look at my pictures since you upgraded your website. They said our Technical Support team is working on it. So they gave me one year of free classmate. I said that would be wonderful and they were sorry for the frustration I was having and the inconvenience. Well I waited 6 months and email them again and I got the same response from Tech-Support we're working on it we are truly sorry for the frustration you're having and we understand the inconvenience.

So I posted a video and sent it to them showing them the problem I was having and I even took my computer to the computer store that built it for me and told them what was the problem I was having thinking something might be wrong with my computer. Well there was nothing wrong. They try to see if they could see my picture albums with their computer and they could not see them. I said, "Well can't be my computer, it's not your computer. So let me contact some of my friends on Classmates and see if they can see my pictures." They all told me they cannot see them also.

So last week 8/5/2018 I contacted them again and talk to LAShawn who is the Member Care, Tier II Representative. This time after they review the Video and all the emails she said it's my computer that was the problem because they can see it and there is nothing they can do about it. I said look I started out with Windows 7, then I went to windows XP and now with Windows 10. I said I've used just about every website like Bring, Opera, Internet Explorer and I still could not see my pictures so it's not my computers. LaShawn said, "Yes it is your computer. I said, "Look all the people that have tried to look at my pictures said they can't see it. Either so are you telling me that their computers are bad too." La Shawn said, "Yes everybody computers are the problem." I said, "No the problem is your server or it's on your end. This all started since you change the website.

So LaShawn said, "Look we are not going to do anymore with this so we will just remove you from Classmates and you can be on your way." And that's just what they did. They took me off the Classmates. Nice bunch of people. So stay off of Classmates because if you have any problems there not going to help. All they are gonna do is feed you a line of crap. So when La Shawn said they are removing me I said, "Remember I am somebody's paycheck and they don't get one now," and she hung up on me. Just stay off the site. That's all I can tell you these people just want your money but they don't wanna fix a problem.
