I received 2 cards at different times - one for $500 and one$100. When I checked the balance it was 0. All money had been spent. No one had access to them so don't know what's going on. I would not use them.

Was given the card as a gift, and it works nowhere. You can't get your money back, and you can't use the card, when I called it was so hard to get in touch with someone, and their only suggestion was to try it somewhere else. Please spread the word to not get these for people! A money order from the post office is better and cheaper!

Good evening everyone, I hope that the same thing does not happen to me and all these users who are making their comments, it is true that all cards are similar loads, the balance and when using them are at zero, just make the calls infinite times. My card was a gift from my father's daughter. I'm talking about Sunday, June 19, 2022. That same day, I used the card and it was denied. I called that same day. A Geilla or Geisha attended me. I did not understand her or want to repeat her name. I also submitted the package. In case of a dispute, I called today, October 27, the same operator attended me and answered me exactly as the previous user had to wait 46 to 90 days, that is, 4 months have already passed and I must wait 3 more, what do you think, and these cards are for sale everywhere else, I recommend you make your complaints to the FTC, an agency that protects the consumer, enough of these scammers.

I went to use my card and was declined. Turns out someone got ahold of my credit card number, I still have the card in my possession, and used 128.94 and left .01 of the balance. I called Vanilla customer service and received the dispute packet and submitted back on 07/24/2022. The email stated ‘Please allow time for the processing of your dispute. The entire cycle can take 45-90 days, however, some cases are resolved before then.‘ I called in 45 days and was told still working on case. I called on 10/24/2022 and told by end of business end they will have the results to call back the next day. I called back on 10/26/2022 and the rep tells me still working on case, to call back in 3- 5 business days. I told her this was to be already resolved since it is more than 90 days. This is now in my favor, the email specifically states 90 days. She stated needed more time and hung up.

I strongly encourage to spend no money on a Vanilla Gift Gift Card. I found this website at the top of Visa's own recommended third party gift card vendors online, so I assumed it must be reputable. My personal experience with the company and their product would indicate they are nothing other than an outright scam, and I am absolutely bewildered that they appear on Visa's own website.
I purchased the card online. I was never sent any kind of email confirmation about my gift card purchase. I did actually receive the card. Their website states you can activate the card online, on the phone, or buy entering a 4-digit code on first purchase. Calling the number on the back of the card does not give any option to activate it. There is no link anywhere on their website to insert the card's information and activate it. The card was declined from every in-store or online purchase I tried to use a 4-digit code on first purchase. Entering the card's info when on the phone or their website "check balance" options just gives an error.
When calling customer service I was told they refused to activate the card and could only open a case file. The "customer service" agent actually even accused me of stealing the gift card even though I had all information about the order number, shipping location and date, and originally purchased credit card number. Ultimately, I was able to document everything including recording my call with customer service and issued a charge-back through my credit card company and won the dispute.

I lost my credit card, and I need to pay for some of my online purchases while I was waiting to receive my actual card. Therefore, I bought a $200 Vanilla Prepaid gift card from Walmart. When I came back home, I tried to use this card to leave a deposit for my hotel booking but the payment didn't get through! I tried other websites such as hostel world, Booking.com, and again the same issue. I called customer service to check the card for me, and everything seemed fine with this card. Since I could not use the card I decided to open a refund case.
At the moment, I sent their requested documentation, however, I am not sure if I can easily get my money back from them. Personally speaking, sounds like a scam to me. First, they gave me a reference number for the refund, and then they refused the payment without contacting me. NEVER BUY THEIR GIFT CARDS AGAIN, AND RECOMMEND OTHERS NOT BUY THESE KINDS OF CARDS.

I bought a gift card at Walgreens. It was a vanillagift.com one time use. I put $260.50. I had a hell of a time trying to get it activated. They told me it was deactivated. I went to Walmart to see. I charged $10.00. The next morning I called to pay my car insurance and the card was no good. So I went on website and found my card was used on eBay and 9 purchases at Bed Bath and Beyond. I called customer service. Talk to someone. ** girl named daisy. She said they couldn’t freeze my card or do anything till 2 weeks have passed and all charges clear. I begged them to freeze that card so the purchases couldn’t go through. She said they couldn’t. So I asked for the issuing bank. She told me she didn’t have that information and asked for my card information # and other info on the card. She said there was nothing more she could do. I would just have to call back in 2 weeks.
Well I rechecked my account and I’ve been blocked. The site says technical difficulties try back later. Well I can’t get into my account. The customer service don’t answer or they send you to a strange phone # that just ask you to guess a number and if your number is not right it hangs up on you. I’ve tried for days. I know in my heart they will not return my money. I was scammed out of all my money. I am elderly and on a fixed income. They stole the $260.50 I had saved for my car insurance. Does anyone know how to stop these scammers. My hands are tied. Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated.
The card was issued by Visa. Why aren’t people banding together to stop this rip off. Please anyone can you help? I guess I will never see a refund of my money. I have nowhere else to go but voice what this company did to me. I know there are other complaints against the same company vanillagift.com. I am not the only one they have scammed. I wonder Visa has their name on that card. Are they ok with scammers defacing their good name or are they not aware of what is going on. Can someone please give me some insight to this on going problem. Thank you.

I have an Amex, which has been fantastic, but every now, a place only takes Visa/Mastercard, or else I left the Amex on the desk at home instead of putting it in my wallet, so, for years, I'd been keeping one of these as a backup or to make online purchases where Amex isn't accepted. It's worked fine for years... until just now. I last used one of these about six months. I use felt tip marker to track my balance on the back. I know the balance. The vanillagift.com site gives a "A system error has occurred. Please try again later." error at the top for both. Re-typed both twice. One merchant declined the cards. Tried another merchant that has accepted them in the past to double check, and still declined. Called the help number on the card and got "very important to us" message over and over and the same clip of music over and over for 15 minutes, then clicks, then silence for half an hour now. Looks like I'm out about $65.
It sure seems like Vanilla is having a serious security incident. Target had an apparently similar incident several years back, where sequentially issued gift card numbers meant hackers could just guess the security code for one card at a time and then move on to the next. Either way, Vanilla clearly has not done enough to protect customer's money. Also happened to notice that this is issued by MetaBank, the same otherwise unheard of financial outfit that was doing stimulus payment cards.

I went and got a Vanilla gift card and had $170 put on it. When I went to check online I saw my money was on there so knew I'd need to use it the next day on groceries and my son's medicine, he is special needs and his diet and meds are just huge each month. I went to the store and my card wouldn't work, I was so upset and mortified that I had to leave our groceries unpaid for, plus we were hungry! I got home to see what the problem was and someone had made purchase after purchase on the card the same money increments until it was drained and I had 0 dollars. I'm a single mom and take care of not only my son but my mom who has Parkinson and is fighting breast cancer. So being scammed for any amount of money truly affects our lives, with how much medical needs cost, utilities, food.
I called the company they said they help me and they absolutely did not and never returned anyone my calls or emails. I honestly would like stores to please take these cards out of stores please, they are fraudulent, they steal people's hard earn money that they desperately need to stay afloat, it's not ethical to support nor sponsor the sales of these cards.

I did not authorize the transaction and proceeded to investigate it. As I research this company, I found out this is a frequent fraudulent accordance with this particular card. I requested a refund and investigation from Vanilla Gift Card. The case was opened July 2022 and they stated it will take up to 90 days. This Vanilla card company is in cahoots with the thieves that rip off your card information and sell it to other thieves. I used this company for years giving them thousands of dollars in ridiculous fees per purchase and reloads. I was fraudulently charged 125.99 for some fake gaming scam. They (vanilla) held me up for a month (after I had informed them) only to receive a letter in the mail (23 days later) from these cowards. The letter states that they have done an "investigation" and found that there was NO FRAUD" ..and that there was going to be NO MONEY credited to my account, as they have closed this case. Zero explanation, zero details and zero support for their customers.
DO NOT even think about using this thieving garbage company to trust with your hard earned money! They 100% do NOT have your back! in ANY situation EVER! You will be very sorry! I was told this the day that I got this card and I disregarded it as a disgruntled customer crying about something. I just started reading the reviews on this company. They have ZERO good reviews...I mean ZERO!!!...REALLY!!? The only reason they have ALL 1 star reviews is because there is NO option to leave a zero stars...or less.
When I went to try and talk to the fraud department about this. the thief representative that I talked to, not only hung up as soon as I told her not to worry about why I wanted to talk to "FRAUD" department. When I tried to call them back, it took 5 straight hours before they answered, they left me on hold all day, knowing who I was. When I finally got through, they were all gathered around behind this rep. I could hear them talking and laughing. I guess other people's money is a big joke down at thief headquarters. Vanilla card is a scam and they're in business with the scammers from **. You know the ones. Don't fall for this company like I did, it is not a joke, it is not a disgruntled card user, it is EVERY card user. Please read these reviews on these pieces of work.

My 15-year-old daughter received a $125 Vanilla Visa gift card in May 2021, from my parents. The expiration date on the card is 8/28. The card was not used until today, 9/17/2022. She tried to use it today and it was declined at the store. She called the number on the card, and she was told a purchase was made on the card 9/7/2021 for $125 on Amazon. We did not make any purchases on it, as it sat in a drawer until now. My wife and I will gladly share our Amazon purchase history for the month of September to show we did not use the card. The individual my daughter spoke to at 1-800-571-1376 the listed contact number for Vanilla Visa Gift Card issues said she does not deal with disputes, read the card agreement, that is all that I can do for you. This isn't a dispute, a common criminal, called a thief, secured the numbers off of the card and used it before we did.
Vanilla Visa needs to post a statement "Use your gift card as soon as you get it, we cannot guarantee the security of the card at all, criminals may already have the number and will use it before you do." Someone obviously secured the cards numbers and used the card before we did. Thank you, Vanilla Visa for standing behind your products. I have already spread the word to my family, friends and neighbors, on different chat boards, that Vanilla Visa doesn't care about the customer. Your agreement is garbage! The money was never there for my 15-year-old daughter to use.
I am glad that you are here to support the criminals who didn't work for a dime of the money they stole from our family. Keep up the good work, I will continue to let people know that you don't care about the consumer or their rights. If it costs you more money maybe, you need to figure out a way to make the cards more secure so they can actually be used by the people they are intended for.
So much for saving something for a rainy day. We try to teach our children to not spend everything as soon as you get it. When I told my parents they were quite upset. My mom is 80 and my dad is 76, they are on a fixed income and cannot just send another $125 gift card. We paid for what we wanted without using the new gift card that already has a zero balance on it. This is posted on Next Door and elsewhere on the web. Come Monday morning I will post this with the Better Business Bureau.

My card information was phished by a third party site that I was redirected to after clicking the wrong link that was presented by a Google Search, I thought I was checking my balance from the vanillagift.com website and didn't notice until after I had entered my card details that I was on a site http://mybalancenow.com - Soon after I entered my card details the available funds were used up in a fraudulent transaction, I called the Vanilla Gift card customer support and they were unable to stop payment on the transaction even though the payment had yet to post. The transaction was pending and even though I had provided all the card details, and insisted that the last transaction was fraudulent, Vanilla Gift would not cancel it. The only recourse you have for a fraudulent transaction is to wait until the transaction posts and then to file a dispute through Vanilla Gift, which I'm told can take 45 to 90 days. If your card details or phished or compromised this is the only way that it is possible to recoup your funds.
The issue is that the card was used a handful of times prior to the fraudulent transaction, and every time it was used a zip code and address was required. Well, you'd think that Vanilla Gift would notice that the zip code and the address submitted in the fraudulent transaction was distinctly different from the zip code and the address used for the previous transactions and cancel the pending transaction before it posted but no, the company insists that the fraudulent transaction posts, and that the only way to them recoup your funds is through the dispute process. In that way, Vanilla Gift customer service and the fraud prevention system is a liability.

I had never heard of this company before. Until this charge came up, I didn't even know you could use the card to make online purchases. I called to dispute the charge and they asked me to call back in 7 business days to report the fraud, since the transaction is still pending. I was told to call back on Aug 12, 2022 and they will e-mail forms to be completed. They said it would take 40-90 days for the forms to be processed, but you would likely hear back earlier than that. If all goes well you would receive a new card and your funds reinstated (I'm assuming).
I asked if they could put a hold on the card or to stop the transaction, and was told neither can be done, and then they terminated the call. I immediately called the “customer care” number on the back and after at least 15 minutes of being on hold…I was told there was 3 purchases made “online” to tech companies I had never heard of. Was then told to file a dispute which took 3 months!!
I finally got a new card in May. I found some sunglasses which I normally wouldn’t buy because again…I’m looking for special things but for certain reasons…decided to return them and after two months since the return I have yet to see any credit at all. Like others have also complained about, they see the credit but won’t give it back! I’ve spent more hours calling their customer care, their “elevated department” given every excuse including them saying they will send my complaint to the “back room” where they swear I’ll see a credit in 24-48 hours…never seen and when I asked to speak to “their back room”… they hang up!!
I’ve filed a report with the Federal Trades Commission and the Better Business Bureau which I encourage everyone who’s had this problem to please do the same. If I don’t get anywhere with them…I’m going to our TV 7 on your side which has a lot of exposure and I’ve googled the CVS, Walgreens and Safeways headquarters to write them and let them know my story so hopefully they take the Vanilla Gift Cards off their racks! If we all do the same…hopefully this company will be charged with fraud!! They steal our money!! But don’t give up or they win!!

As with many other reviews I see, Vanilla Visa and/or CVS stole 150.00 from me. I purchased a gift card from CVS for my boss. My boss tells me it doesn't work and down the rabbit hole we go. Added problem? Was sold a card but money was placed on a different card by cashier. So CVS says I need to contact Vanilla because they don't issue the cards. Vanilla says contact CVS because the receipt doesn't match card. CVS says they don't keep cards and Vanilla has the information. Vanilla says it needs the whole bar code numbers. CVS receipt only has last four. Etc. Etc. Etc. They have it set up to literally rob you. Do Not Buy Vanilla Gift Cards!! Thieves!

I purchased a Vanilla Master Card Gift Card for $ 25.00 plus I paid $ 3.95 activation fee for a total of $ 28.95. I purchased that gift card on June 17th at CVS Pharmacy in 909 E Lumsdend Rd, Brandon, Fl 33511. Few days later, I went on Vanilla Gift Card's website to check the activation when I remembered they stole a $50.00 from me before.
Again, that gift card had no money in it. It stated a "zero balance". I ripped the package myself to take out the gift card but there was no $25.00 on the card. There was a charge pending for $25.00 from an online store name "Bohetangllc.com". I never heard of such store before. I Quickly called Vanilla with the number from the back of the card. The customer service is horrible. I waited for 15 minutes and talked with a representative for 45 minutes explaining that I never used the card and to cancel the pending charge. I sent them my receipt and nothing was resolved. They went on approved the pending charge anyway. They sent a "dispute form." I filled it out and sent back the same day. They were very unprofessional, untrustworthy, unethical, and lied constantly.
The representatives of Vanilla Gift Card contradicted themselves constantly. To make that long exasperating experience short, after they told me 90 days to get their investigation complete, I went on the Bohetang website and got their info myself. I called them and they never picked up the phone so I emailed them. I got a response from Dawei ** and the gift card was refunded.
Now, I let Vanilla Gift Card know and requested my money back. They said "we can't put the money back but we'll send you a replacement card". After it has been 3 weeks, since they said they will send a "replacement card", I called today June 12th, 2022 to be precise. The representative was ill informed about everything after I gave her the case ticket # **, gift card number, expiration date, and 3 digit codes on the back.
I asked to speak to the supervisor. After a long wait, a "supervisor named Cole" came on the phone. She was also ill informed and stated that "there was no request for a replacement card". I got extremely frustrated with her. Now, she said "you'll get a replacement card in 7-10 business days". I now believe they are part of the scam and they should not be in business scamming people. People really need to stay away from them. That gift card number is: ** Exp 07/26 digit codes 400. This is really bad and nasty what they are doing. They need to be stopped. They should not be selling a fraudulent gift card like that. They should not be in business. They showed absolutely no respect to consumers.
The Vanilla Gift Card Company does not care one bit about the frauds that are going on with their gift cards with the way they respond to consumers and stealing people's money. Even after this Bohetang refunded my gift card, that refund is still being kept on Vanilla's Gift Card account. This is really concerning. They are part of the scam. They need to be accountable for their actions. My $ 25.00 will not be stolen from me. They already made me lose the activation fee of $3.95 but they will not keep my $25.00.
I hope people read reviews before they purchase things because that will help them avoid a lot of heartaches from scammers like Vanilla Gift Card Company. This is the second time that I have this bad experience with them and that's the last time for me. I forgot that previous experience of $50.00 with them and this time, this experience is fully recorded in my mind and I'll never buy from them anymore. I beg people to stay away from them.

Please do not buy this card. I can't reiterate this more. You buy the card, pay for it and realize that the balance is zero. You dispute and get rejected. It's one of the most bizarre experience in my life. The cost you pay for a plastic card and distress is just not worth it. In short, the cards are hacked, I have no idea how rampant is that. But buying this card, is the same as throwing your money down the drain. I suggest you donate it rather than letting a dishonest company profit out of it.

I got a generous $500 Vanilla Gift Card from my company on January 4, 2021. I was able to use most of it soon after I received it. But there was a balance of $19.86 which I tried to use at Daedalus Books yesterday. The book for $6.98 plus tax plus shipping came to $18.43, LESS than the $19.86 on the card. The card was declined. The Vanilla Card Instructions -- printed on Monday, January 4, 2021 -- said "If you have any additional questions or need assistance, please call us at 1-844-433-7898" so I called that number. The person at that number said they were no longer servicing Vanilla Card (probably they got tired of all the complaints) and that the NEW number was 1-800-571-1376. I called that number and - as you might guess - got no satisfaction. No live representative was available. There was no option to ASK for a representative. I told my company not to use this vendor anymore.
I urge all the well-spoken people who have filed a report on this site to look up the address of your state attorney general and write to him or her about this company. I also urge you to find the address of the chief executive officer of Vanilla Gift Card and write him a letter - the kind with a STAMP - about your experience. The recent comment from the person who lost $1,000 was REALLY disturbing. Folks don't turn your salary payment into a gift card. There HAS to be a better way. Open an account at a local bank or use cash. Another alarm bell with this Vanilla card is this statement that they make on their instructions: "Please note: some transaction types require a hold of up to 20 percent ABOVE the purchase amount." If so, how do you spend the last part of the amount on your card?
The gift card business makes money from all the unused money on the card. If it's 3 or 4 percent of the value of the card, that should be STATED CLEARLY UP FRONT by the vendor. But if they are going to rip you off for the entire value of the card, that's a completely different story. Those of you who posted about this card should be sure to tell all your friends about your experience. Retailers should stop carrying and displaying these cards in their gift-card racks.

To get the money on the card I have to magically remember which exact person gave this specific gift card, and magically hope that they've kept the receipt. Because yeah - that's what people do when they buy gift cards. Never had this issue before. Also, it is not listed in their consumer agreement that if a card is not activated that it's on the consumer's side to resolve by procuring the receipt. So they basically stole $104.99.

Went back to Walmart, they said that they can't do anything we had to contact the company.
Called the number on the back of the card, spoke with a representative. She stated that it would take 45-90 business days for the investigation. Absolutely not, you didn't take 45-90 business days to take my money. It is not fair to paying customers to take our money and play around with your non-diligent efforts of resolving the issue. I further told the representative. That someone from the company must be writing the gift card numbers down and obviously are using them. Not only are they using them, you're selling them to merchants. Her reply was, "Well if that's what you think." What kind of response is that if your company is legally legit and running their business professionally. Now I would have defended my company to the end. It's not right that this allowed. I asked who had made the transactions to which they could not reply but said to call back later. I explained that it should NOT have been used prior as it was received in a SEALED package. They could not help and said to call back later.
I did call back in about a week and then was told it was "Google Play" that had the transactions on this card. I was sent a dispute packet form by email, was asked to fill out, which I did. I even sent a photo of the SEALED package it came in. I have called several times, emailed them requesting a replacement card. My daughter spent $50 for this card and then I find it only had $4!! So. My mother purchased a $100 gift card from this company for Christmas. She passed away 2 weeks ago. I had intended to keep it and probably not use it because it was the last gift she had given me. Somewhere in the process of dealing with hospice and trying my hardest to get her affairs in order I misplaced the card. I called right away to the company customer service number provided all the serial numbers on the original packaging and was told that she was able to locate the card and all needed info and should expect a replacement within 5-7 days. Waited 2 weeks and then asked to speak with a manager to figure out where the replacement for the GIFT card was. She insisted that I have a receipt from the original purchase of a GIFT card.
I explained the situation that my mother had passed so there was no way to find the original receipt. I provided the exact information to the “manager” and was told very a very uncompassionate person I have ever encountered in my 57 years on this earth. She insisted that she was unwilling to do what the first person was able to do in less than 3 minutes. How exactly am I supposed to get a receipt from my dearly and very recent mother. This company really profits on the loss of others, have the worst customer service on the planet. Especially the management whose job it to only increase the company’s profits on lost or stolen GIFT cards.
User beware that if you use this service to send a gift card to send the original receipt which seems ridiculous. It’s A GIFT CARD and I have all the original packaging with the serial number. Now I’ve not only lost my mother but the last gift she will ever give me. I have the serial number as I said and the first person was able to locate the account in less than 3 minutes and said that was all they needed. However the ”manager’s job" is to obviously keep from replacing these cards to keep their profits up by doing her very best to make as difficult as possible to replace a lost gift card. Now I am not only grieving my mom, but also the last gift she will ever give me.

February 17,2022. Be aware of the Vanilla Credit Card scam. This company deserves no stars. On June 28th, 2021 my husband purchased two $500 Vanilla gift cards from CVS for my birthday. I started using the first gift card in October of 2021. After making a few purchases during the month I knew I had around $300 left on it. I went to use it again on December 6, 2021 and it was declined. When I got home I called to check the balance and it was $15.00. I then said to myself I better check the other one which had not even been opened yet. Checked the balance, they said something is wrong with the card, to find out that that card only has a $35.00 balance. Both cards had multiple charges of google play and google donations.
Called Vanilla Gift Cards and told the representative that I never use Google play and I want to be reimbursed. Also I told her that this is fraud and I was reporting this to the police which I have done and the police are investigating it. They said something's going on here. I filed the dispute forms for both cards on 12/6/21 and 12/8/21. After several attempts to get an update by phone, I could not, I then set an email and on the fourth email demanding a response, I finally heard from them by a phone call, the best number to reach them at is 1-404-397-1461 (when you call it is Amanda’s direct line and also, I received a email.
I called Amanda from Vanilla Gift Cards twice and she stated what they get back from the chargebacks is what I will get back. I told her that I wanted my full refund. Amanda also said that we tried to resolve these quickly. I filed this dispute on 12/6/21 and 12/8/21 and Amanda stated that she submitted the chargebacks on January 10, 2022. What bothers me is they had the disputes 12/6/21.
I called Amanda twice to get a update and did not get anywhere. I called this week and Amanda said that on February it went into arbitration and then said to me, "I’m going to close this out and refund you $129.00." I told her that this is unacceptable and wanted my full refund. Amanda stated what we get back is what you get back and there is nothing she can do. I then told her I am not accepting this and that this company needs to be sued. I have called CVS corporate office and they are investigating this matter also.
I also, have put a complaint into the BBB which Vanilla Gift Cards have hundreds of complaints. They responded saying they received my complaint and will be resolved by March 6,2022. I then again declined the Vanilla Gift card response twice and BBB closed the case stating unresolved. I have been in touch with a Detective at the police department who has been investigating this matter and he had send Google portal of the charges and was hoping to to get a quick response but when he heard back from Google they unfortunately have no record of the disputed charges. This company is not professional and does not care. This company really needs to be investigated. I am wondering if someone has started a Class Action suit against the company.

Three days later, all the money on both cards was gone again!!! One particular transaction was to a nut and bolt company in TAIWAN!!!! If you’re lucky enough to FINALLY get your money back on the cards, spend it immediately before they steal it again!! Now we’re back to square one. This is ridiculous, criminal, and unjust.
Original Review: Add us to the list of people being scammed by this company. As my husband was sitting on hold with them for the fifth time in the past month, I decided to see if anyone else had the same issue as us. I found all of these complaints and it made me sick because I realized this was indeed, never going to get resolved. We purchased (2) $200 vanilla gift cards online from Walmart. They were both delivered with a zero balance. We have contacted Vanilla customer service every four days because they keep telling us in three days we will be refunded and nothing happens.
We get hung up on, put on hold for 30 minutes, told we need to submit our driver's license, pictures of receipt, package, and the cards front and back which was weird but we did. They keep saying the same thing over and over as if it’s rehearsed and programmed. They’ve told us 5x we will be refunded within three days. Something isn’t right here. Once again, we got nowhere with our call tonight. I’m pretty sure we’re out our $400. I’m going to report this everywhere I think may help. I encourage other victims to do the same.

It was in a sealed gift card package and purchased from a local CVS pharmacy. I first opened the packet on November 5th at a department store to try to use it to make a purchase. The transaction was denied due to insufficient funds. I later called the customer service number on the back of the card to learn that there was only a $3 balance remaining. I also learned that there were handfuls of small transactions made between 9-29 and 9-30 at Google play (online) which I did not make nor authorize. I followed the instructions on the card to submit a dispute and request a replacement card. I waited the full 90 days for the investigation to be completed. I was informed via an email that a discrepancy was found and that I would receive a replacement card.
I received a replacement card this week for only $10. I tried repeatedly to contact their customer service via phone and email and either was disconnected or was told that the decision was final and no further information would be available and to keep emailing them, which I have done several times without any response. I searched for similar issues online and found hundreds of similar complaints on the consumer affairs website and want to share this awful experience with others. I have filed complaints with the BBB, Attorney General's Office and Federal Trade Commission. On 1/21/22 I was finally able to speak with someone (Paige) because she picked up after I was on hold for 17 minutes. I told her about my experience with the card and informed her at the time that my mother no longer had the receipt. She told me she understood and that she would submit an "activation request" on my behalf. She told me that all I would need to do was submit a copy of the front/back of the card, and a copy of my ID. I felt uncomfortable about the ID, but did it so that my mother's hard-earned money would not go to waste. The phone call was left at "file a report and we'll look into it within 90 days." All the while the attitude being we will never see that $100 again no matter the outcome. Also, customer service rep said she would email me a complaint form. Never received that email.

Any attempt to check it was quickly terminated, because it accepted nothing without 16 digits. I went online and found a customer service number. After 27 minutes wait, the man told me that I must procure a receipt. I had no receipt. "You must ask the person who gave it to you. You must find which store they bought it from." I couldn't. I gifted my colleagues at work with $100 and $50 Vanilla Master Cards. Nine in all totalling over $650. This included $4.95 and $5.95 activation fee for each card. They were bought from Walmart in Burlington, Ontario. All my colleagues who received the cards have complained and I am shocked that the cards got declined. When I asked Walmart to confirm if it had activated it, it said yes and showed me the activation proof on the receipt. They told me to connect with Master Card.
I connected with Vanilla Master Card after long waits and holding periods on the phone - during which they simply cut off the phone when I was put on hold and did not care to call back even though I had given them my phone#. Finally after numerous long attempts, when I connected with an agent, she seemed to be very kind and considerate. She took all the card #s from me and details of the purchase. She again activated the cards and assured me that there would not be any issue anymore with these cards. Well, I told my friends about it and apologised to them about this issue again and told them with confidence to go and use the cards.
However, today I get to know from my friends that the cards yet do not work - the payments got declined as before. Walmart tells me that they can do nothing about it and these are final sale cards and they cannot accept them as returns. Today at 6:21pm est., I called Vanilla Master Card and spoke to an agent by the name of Joel. He told me that I made a mistake in buying the cards from Walmart stores. I should have gone to their Vanilla website and bought it directly from them online. Wow!!! Joel after looking into the records at his end, told me that the one card which I had given as gift was going through an investigation and cannot be activated until the investigation is completed. The other cards he cannot do anything about until the investigation is complete. The investigation about what? He had no answer for it.
The irony of the situation is that I bought the Vanilla Master Cards using my own Bank's Master Card and now they are investigating how it was bought? This is a very shameful and frustrating experience during holiday times when I spent $650+ trusting Walmart as the vendor and Master Card as a reputed name. If someone can advise me how I should come out of this situation, it will be very helpful. Thanks and my appreciation in advance.

Let me start by stating the only reason I gave this a single, is due to the requirement of selecting a star prior to proceeding. This should actually receive a zero star rating. My wife received a Vanilla Gift Card as a Christmas bonus from her work. Since this is considered a bonus, taxes are required to be paid on the gift. We understand this fact and have no problem paying the taxes. However, once the card was activated, two weeks after it was purchased, she went to use it an found all but $9.78, of the initial $500, had already been consumed through fraudulent activity.
When reaching out to Vanilla Customer Support, they proceeded to tell us there was nothing they could do to assist and that we needed to wait until December 25th to call back to dispute the charges. When requesting to talk to a supervisor, we were placed on extremely long wait times and ended up getting transferred back to the original Customer Service Representative we had already spoke to. This went on for well over 2 hours and the same results.
Based upon our lack of support from Customer Service, we went into investigation mode on our own. Utilizing the Vanilla website, we were able to find the businesses who the pending transactions had been placed with. We proceeded to contact their Fraud Department and report the activity. Working with the department stores Fraud Department we were able to stop shipping of one of the orders, while the other orders were already out for delivery. Even through our efforts, countless hours of investigating, the department store was able to identify the shipments, but only could tell us the city it was shipping to. They refused to provided us with the actual shipping address, even though they had it in front of them, due to their company security policies. Even though we conducted all the leg work, the department store could only send out a stop delivery for the packages out for delivery, but didn't guarantee any success.
We did receive a case number from the Fraud Department and were told to reach out to Vanilla and give them the case number. Once again we are on hold waiting for Vanilla's Customer Service Department to answer the phone, as I am typing this complaint. The morale of the story is do not trust prepaid gift card or accept them as a form of payment, as they are the least protected form of currency exchange and you have no personal rights when it comes to fighting for the money you are receiving. The department stores do not have the funds to track shipments that are proven fraud and will dispute the charges with Vanilla once proven fraudulent and you will never receive any compensation for helping the department store identify transactions as such.
Upon waiting the period of time we were told by Vanilla, we followed up to dispute the fraudulent charges. It took another 2 1/2 hours on hold to finally receive a case number and an email with the dispute paperwork to be filled out and emailed back in. This process can take up to 90 days once the paperwork is received, once the paperwork has been reviewed and the investigator contacts us, which could be an additional 10 days. This entire process could be more than 100 days from receipt of the case number. Is this all worth the effort? Yes it is, this money was fraudulently stolen and needs to be recovered. I challenge anyone who has this happen to them to follow through and fight this as well.
This is a true act of theft and a violation of our laws. It feels the same as someone breaking into your vehicle or home stealing. What we have learned from this experience is there are no laws to protect you as a consumer! Stiffer laws need to developed to shut this racket down and higher agencies need to get involved, especially when people do all the work for the card company and the department store to prove the violation and save them money. The only losers are us as the consumer. Until such time this becomes laws, I would recommend boycotting prepaid card companies and let them hear us through their lack of support. Maybe this will hurt their bottom line and bring this up to hire management to fix the problem. I am going to start a NFP Business to assist victims of such organized crime as such. People need assistance to fight back. Especially if our legal system can't provide such services for its citizens. I look forward to any and all feedback.

I received a Vanilla Gift Card that was worth of $250.00. When I went to their website to check the card balance, it was down to $44 and a number of Google Play store purchases (like multiple $5 ones) on the card. I immediately called the Vanilla customer service. I reported that the card was compromised and the representative canceled the card. And he said he could send me a new card with the remaining balance but they have to wait until Google to pay them back for the fraudulently purchased amounts. I wanted to get the new card with full amount, so he said it would take about 7 to 10 business days to complete the refund transactions from Google.
So I called them a week later. Obviously no refund was made from Google to Vanilla. And the "new" representative was saying the same thing. She could send me a new card with $44 and call them back later to get update on the refund from Google. I was getting fed up by their process (and you have WAIT like 30 to 1 hour for a representative to answer you back and even during the call they will put you on hold for multiple times), so I just requested for the $44 card return first. I got the new card like 2 days later, which was good.
So, I waited another week and called them. The representative was saying the same thing again. No refund from Google and they have to wait 10 business days to process the refund. I was so angry and requested to speak with his manager. I have been put on hold for 1+ hour and I am still waiting as I am writing this review. Their business is so insecure. Once the gift cards are purchased by a person, there is no way to get proper customer services from their team. They are all reading pre-made scripts every time people call. - I called the number listed in the help section 3 different times:
---- You will have to wait in queue for 20+ minutes.
---- Once you get a customer service rep on the phone and explain that there are fraudulent charges on your account, they will disconnect the call (this occurred 3 times).
This is a complete fraud/scam. It seems like they sell the card data off and then provide no help in getting the funds back.

I received $100 gift card from a client two weeks ago. After checking the balance on the card I noticed that there was a $20 pending charge. I immediately contacted Vanilla to let them know that someone was using the card fraudulently. I was told by a customer service person that I would have to wait seven days for them to contact the merchant to have the funds put back on the card. I was told they have a fraud alert being put on the card so that no one could use the card. I waited a couple of days and checked the card again and noticed that the card it was now at $60. I contacted them again and by the time someone got on the phone the card and have been Drain down to $27.15. I then called vanilla to report that someone was continuing using the card. When I try to explain this to the customer service provider I was told that there was no hold put on the card and that the charges have been made in the last few days.
Fast forward to today which is two weeks later. I called and I was told that there is $67 on the card and then I would have to wait seven days for the rest of the funds to be put on the card. Mind you it has been 10 days and after telling the customer service provider he responded, "I know but you have to wait 3 to 7 days for a response". After me reminding him it has been 10 days he hung up the phone on me. I will never do service with this company. I am starting to think that this scam is being done by inside person. I think vanilla is expecting for customers to just let it go. That way they won’t have to refund the money that the customer has been scammed out of. I really believe this company needs to be put out of business immediately.

There is 1 star marked only because I had no choice. My actual review is 0 stars. I purchased the Visa Vanilla Gift Card on 12/16/2021 because I had a $50.00 bill that was due and my husband had my prepaid Brinks card with him. I was at Family Dollar when I saw Visa on the card and it was easily activated. I put $65.00 on it but the total was $69.95 as there was a $4.95 fee. I get home and try to pay my bill online for $50.00 and it was declined. I tried to make to more purchases one for $4.99 and one for $2.99. Both were for Google games. They were both declined except for .57 cents went thru on the $4.99 purchase which makes no sense because if .57 cents went thru then the whole amount of $4.99 should have went thru. Anyway so there was a balance of $64.43 left on the card. I did not try to use it anymore.
On 12/17/2021 I called the number on the back of the card and naturally couldn't get a human but I did find a number where I got a customer service rep. The number is 1-844-433-7898 for those of you this has happened to and can't reach a customer service rep. I was on hold for 21 mins when a woman that could barely speak English told me my transaction with Fingerhut did go thru because of the exp. date, then she said it was the type of institution Fingerhut is. I said, "Y'all advertise paying bills and shopping online and Fingerhut is the bill I was trying to pay. All of the sudden she told me I had a 0 balance because $64.43 was pending to a PayPal account.
I went to the vanilla site to check it for myself and a transaction on 12/17/2021 at 2:00pm is pending. The transaction had PAINTERESTI ** pending to PayPal. The vanilla customer service rep told me to call PayPal, so I did and PayPal told me to call vanilla back, so I did and I was told that I had to wait 7 days to file a dispute. Any other credit card company lets you file a dispute immediately. I realized that Visa Vanilla stole my money because I didn't even use the card on 12/17 at all but the transaction was on 12/17 at 2:00pm. The last time I tried to use the card was on 12/16 at approximately midnight. I decided I would call that morning and get this straightened out. Boy was I wrong. It's very curious that the pending transaction is for the exact balance on the card and it's very curious the transaction was done at 2:00 pm and I had not even touched the card yet to even find out why my transactions were being declined.
It's blatantly obvious that Visa Vanilla Gift Card stole my money and I'm not the only person this has happened to, there are many more. I cannot believe VISA is allowing this to go on. If you take the PA off of the beginning of the transaction name which is PAINTERESTI and you take the I off of the end you are left with INTEREST. These people are obviously not worried about being caught. They take the whole balance of the card, they don't even try to make it not look like theft and they just put any time down. I can see why the thieves account has the word INTEREST in it because it's drawing interest on every person's money they have stolen. I don't know how I'm going to pay my Fingerhut bill now because I scrapped that money together.
Anyway stay away from those crooks. They want you to wait 7 days before filing a dispute but I'm calling them everyday and I'm contacting VISA because their name is on it and that's the reason I chose that card was because VISA I thought was a company that could be trusted. I'm going to figure out how to either get my money back or file charges. Anyone that wants to join me my Name is Kathy. You can find me on Facebook under ClayandKathy **.
