I purchased this gift card in US and tried to use it online this year for a web purchase and couldn't use it, went online to check and seem to be no good. I called customer service almost 5 times now since then and every time I had to stay on the phone for good one hour or more to get hold of someone. Talked to few reps and they told me this card was compromised and they will take all my info to send me a new card, by the time they are taking the address over the phone, call drops, happened 3x already. I have not used this card, and not sure how this card is compromised. I have tried to reach the supervisor and no luck since then. I am still trying, this is really frustrating.

I received a Vanilla Visa card for my birthday and used it at a local restaurant. The card was declined, though the staff attempted to run it several times, and I had money on the table to cover the tip and the rest of the bill. I also gave them the receipt and packaging from the card. Today I called the number on the back of the "gift card" and checked the balance. Again, the company claimed it was not a valid number. After running it a second and third time, I had the same result. I waited for customer service for 30 minutes and was told the card was rejected because restaurants do that if the bill is over the card limit. I was then told the card was valid. I asked for a supervisor. After another 30 minutes I spoke with "Loria" who claimed to be the supervisor. She finally agreed to request a refund check for me, but said it will take 3 weeks. DO NOT BUY THESE GIFT CARDS.

I purchased a $140 Vanilla gift card to use online and everywhere I tried to use it said I needed a zip code. I went to put a zip code on my card on their website and it said there was a problem with my card. I called customer service and they were no help at all in unlocking my card. I have purchased a vanilla gift card before and had no problem putting a zip code on the card on their website and she said that you can’t attach a zip code to the card, even though I have done it previously before. She said I had to get a new card which would take 7-10 business days, so I asked for a refund which she said would take 3 weeks and I had to send in documentation to verify my address. Such a hassle and waste of time and who knows when I’ll actually get my refund. DO NOT PURCHASE A VANILLA GIFT CARD, unless you want something to go wrong.

I received a Vanilla visa gift card for $100.00. When I used it there was only $1.83 left on the card. I sent in the dispute paperwork and they found someone had comprised the card most likely computer generated for the numbers. 2 hours on hold each time I called and 20 emails later. They only sent a replacement card of $78.22. I called again and they stated I had to wait 48 hours to reload the card from the merchant. 2 week later, still zero balance. There was also another gift card I received and there was 0 on it also. No merchant receipt since it was gift so I am out another $100.00.
I would not ever buy these cards or give out as gifts. They couldn't even get my address correct due to language barrier out of the USA. This card is nothing but a big scam and the customer service is the worst. All other reviews on these cards are accurate. Do yourself a favor and stay away from these cards. I would not even give this a star, but I had to pick something. Someone needs to go to court and get them off the shelves at the store. When ask for a manager, they don't connect you. It's dead air on the phone and nobody picks up the call. SHAME ON THIS COMPANY treating consumers this way.

I hadn't had a problem with them in the past until these past 2 days. I bought a $65 card, paid in cash, and when I got home, I found out that the employee who checked me out voided my order and still took my money. When I tried to check my balance on the website, it told me a system error occurred. I went back to the store, told a manager, they refunded me and I bought another card. This one seemed to have worked when I got it. I put the info into their website and it showed my correct balance. I bought something off Amazon for my mom, checked again, and the balance had changed accordingly.
However, today when I tried to buy something online with the card, it refused to take it, saying something had gone wrong with the card. I went to put it into the website again, and now it's telling me that there was a system error. The exact same message as before. I'm currently on hold on their phone, and have been for the past 30 minutes. The music is annoying, and keeps being interrupted by the stupid robotic voice telling me to stay on the line every, in the most literal sense, 30 seconds. I counted. This company sucks, please do not give them your money.

I had gotten several Vanilla prepaid cards as a gifts a few months ago. I called the number to check the balance on the back of them. When I called the lady gave me the balance on them, and I wrote what was left on the card. Today I tried to use them and none of them work. I called back and they told me that every card I had was a zero balance. That leads me to believe that the lady that took my info over the phone stole my money off my cards. It was the very next day that I tried to use them all zero on five cards. Never purchase from this company.

Received the Vanilla VISA gift card from my parents for a birthday. Opened up the package and tried to use it at the grocery store. Card was declined after multiple attempts. Took it home and went to the website to see if I could check the balance and see what was the issue. After entering the card number and details, simply received an error message. Called the customer support number which asked for the card details, and an automated system explained "there is something wrong with your card."
Then the system put me on hold for a representative which lasted 20 minutes. The customer service rep was difficult to understand (seems they outsource their customer service center to somewhere in southwest Asia). They said the card was not activated and they need me to send them a copy of my ID, the purchase receipt, and a copy of an ID, and then after a week or so, they would activate it. Who needs this kind of hassle from a gift card when there are other cards that don't have any of these problems? Will let my parents and family know never to buy Vanilla branded gift cards again.

I tried to use my $200 Vanilla visa card. I went online to check the balance to be sure I remembered the amount. The Vanilla gift card check balance site showed that yes the balance was 200. Within minutes I went to amazon to load my amazon account so I could make a purchase. It was declined. I tried several times thinking maybe I entered wrong. Nope. I went to vanilla site again and the site itself would not work for this card, it was not a site error because it worked for my other card just fine. I tried and tried and tried. It kept saying to try again. By the time I got into the site the next day the balance was 200. I did the same thing with amazon. Again Declined.
Now today, I can actually see the transactions on vanilla and I see all my transactions declined but there are approved PAYPAL transactions with this: PAYPAL *ZHANGSHAAOJ -! Like what the heck, right? Now I am currently on hold with Vanilla for almost an hour and NO ANSWERS to what happened or how it can happen? Seriously? Do not buy Vanilla gift cards. They are not reliable and there is no customer service worthy of the amount of money I have spent on these cards over the years~~!
The rep tells me that their policy is that it is like cash and therefore has the same risk. However, how is that possible when the card NEVER left my possession? It has been sitting under my computer keyboard and no one had access to it. This is crazy. I asked to speak to a supervisor, manager, vice president, CEO anyone and they put me hold and here I sit on hold AGAIN! The Vanilla Gift customer service supervisor said that they are aware of the fake websites that look amazingly like Vanilla's and that customers should type in the web address manually rather than search for it. I responded that that should be in big giant red letters on the packaging - It is not on the packaging at all. I am surprised that some agency is not monitoring and cracking down. :( If you ask me, this is an omission of irresponsible business practice. It should make them liable.

I bought a gift card for 300 dollars, I used less than 100 and days later when I wanted to use it again I no longer had more than two dollars of balance, they used it to send money to each other by Cash app, I don't even use that application, I still can't believe that it is so insecure and that your money on those cards disappear. I will never buy or recommend Vanilla gift card again. The customer service when I called and complained about what had happened did not help me much. I still have to wait 90 days to know if I can get my money back.

I am now certain that this is an internal crime of some kind. Two cards were simultaneously drained, one was cancelled and a replacement card was supposed to come in the mail. The other one was supposed to be investigated after 90 days. The one that was supposed to come in the mail never came. When we called, it was never actually sent. We were told it would be sent again. It never came. So we called again and again they said they would send it they did not. It was never sent. So we asked for a refund and they asked for a picture of our drivers license and the receipt for the card and said that they would give us a refund.
They did not give us a refund, and when we called to ask, we were told that they do not do that, and that the camp the card and question does not exist, and if we read the fine print, we would see the issues of refunds are not something that they do. The other card shows up as nonexistent and when questioned the hangup. These cards were gifts for children for Christmas. I am certain that there is some kind of internal theft that probably amounts to a very, very large sum and big Vanilla Visa is aware. We need a class action lawsuit, 2023.

Spent $200 on a defective card; even though I have the receipt showing amount -- $200 deducted from my account -- the card was defective from the start as the 16 digit number contained only 12 digits. They also did not print a CVC code so the card is inoperable. Despite providing a driver's license, paid receipt showing card code on back of card, a picture of the front and back of card, the company still has not refunded the $200 we spent. Asked her if there was any way to speed up the process, she said no. Waited more than 3-5 days and called back. All of a sudden oh no, you have to send us documentation to this email. Sent documents TWICE ok, separate days. Life happens, weeks go by. Call them, now here it is MARCH, this process started in January. "Oh no we never received your info... that’s the wrong email." "No, let me speak to a manager."
Get a supervisor that says,"Oh that’s the right email but we don’t have anything, what’s the numbers on the back of the card." Now all of a sudden the card in question has been used at a Target on January 20th in Arizona. Finally today… I went with Visa’s suggestion and contacted InComm for answers. No answer through the number so I sent a long email to the address provided. Copied that and sent it to all available emails. Simply stated I was making one last attempt to reach out for help and was going to have to report to FTC, etc. and that the amount of horror stories that are exactly the same is alarming. Sent those through and thought about trying just the 2nd number not associated with my first 6 digits one last time. After 30 minutes of Freebird and no response to my emails… searched google for a number I missed and not a minute later I heard a voice on the other end.
So the 2nd # got me in contact with someone finally. The 1st number is a waste of time. She told me my card had “suspicious activity” and “could have been compromised” so they put it on hold. New card. First purchase. A hold that turns into this mess. The woman was not very nice. There was no way to undo the hold. She said she would send another out and it would arrive in 7-10 business days. I asked for some sort of confirmation and was told my current cancelled card is now is my confirmation of our discussion. I was very confused. And, for a pinch of comfort I was told if it doesn’t show up after 10 business days-call back and they’ll get it figured out.
I can’t do 9 hours of Freebird again. So, I at least spoke to a person. I may have a gift card heading to me in the mail. Not worth the trouble. Things need to change. Worst experience I’ve had and would never recommend this company. It’s a gamble if you’ll have a working card. They can put a hold on your card/money for a change in wind direction. They can’t undo that hold. You’re unable to contact through text or email to quickly clear things up. They don’t have anything on their website or automated phone options to solve a problem. You have to hope they follow through on sending you a replacement. It’s not worth it.
If I had a card that had a large amount of money on it. I would be so mad. You’re money you have to hope you’ll be able to spend in the next month. Hopefully you don’t go crazy and suspiciously try to buy groceries and put another hold on it. Yeah. Cash is better. Other prepaid cards have an online customer service. Don’t give this company your time or money. The continuous loop of Freebird for hours in hold just about perfectly sums it up.

I explained that as the gift recipient I don't have the receipt-and have no idea who the purchaser was. And honestly at a month out would be shocked if they still had the receipt, if I even know who they were.
I offered to mail in the card so they could destroy it and re-issue or even credit the original purchase. They said that would make no difference that the card was unusable unless I could get the receipt. So now in 5 years they'll take the money spent on the card to their bottom line. This is not customer service -it feels more like theft. At this point I care less that I get the value of the card. I just don't want them to have it.

I received a Secret Santa gift in the amount of $500. The card has well over $300 left on it and it no longer works. I called the company and spent over an hour trying to get a replacement card and was on hold for over 30 minutes waiting for a supervisor because I was told that I needed to send them the receipt as proof of purchase. The fact that this was anonymous doesn't seem to register with their representatives. Maybe the company should hire people that are from the US who speak and understand English as their first language. After I was finally able to speak with a supervisor she said she would send a replacement card and it will take 7 to 10 business days to get to me. Pathetic.

I finally reached someone after holding for 30 minutes who told me I needed to open a dispute claim by emailing a copy of my ID, copy of the front/back of the card and a copy of the receipt which I don't have because it was a gift. I was gifted a 25$ Vanilla prepaid Visa for Christmas and activated it on 1/14. I went to the grocery store on 1/19 and it wouldn’t work. I then call the # on the back of the card and asked why? They proceeded to tell me it had a zero balance due to a purchase in the amount of 25$ to Apple on the very SAME day that I activated it. Following some research of my own, I found out that scammers go to stores and supposedly take pics of all info on the cards and then after they are purchased and activated they’re notified and can use them.
Now I don’t know if this is what happened with my card but I can say it’s either one of two things: 1) Exactly what I just explained regarding scammers or 2) this company is running an inside job. Whatever the deal is this is completely unacceptable. I have read numerous reviews with people on here saying this exact same thing happened to them. I started to use Vanilla prepaid card a few years ago. The service the company was fairly good, but in this last 2 years, I noticed the company had a major shift to the worse. For every call, I have to wait at least for an hour before I can talk to someone. In this last Good Friday, I made a purchase with the Vanilla prepaid card, but the vendor's website was suspicious because the website has a button asked the buyer to click on "Continue" but there wasn't any page show up to ask if the buyer agrees to pay for xx amount. It went directly to a page to confirm the order.
I called Vanilla company right away to stop the payment. Their response was No, they would not stop the payment, but asked me to call back the following week. I did what they said, but ever since then, they locked up my card and would not let me use it, nor acknowledge that I am the owner of the card, and wanting me to provide all kinds of proof that I am the owner of the card. I still have about $100. I provided all the proofs they asked of me except the receipt. It is unreasonable demand to show a receipt for a value $500 card which I purchased a year ago, plus there isn't any instruction on the card or on their website advising consumers to keep their receipt in the case if our card is stolen or lost, we should provide receipt as a proof.
In the last few year, I had lost my card once, they re-issued a card with no hassle at all; no receipt required. This time, I provided personal ID, copy of possession of card and where I had spent my money with the card. The agent told me it's sufficient, but for over 50 days now, they continue locking up the card and told me there wasn't any record showing that I had submitted my case. When I show them the email the detail when I submitted the case, they changed another reason to dismissed me saying I need to show receipt which is impossible to provide.
Every time when I called to find out what they are doing with my case, they would intentionally let me wait on the phone for a long time to see if I would give up and hang up the phone. Today I wanted to get to the bottom of it, so I wait until someone show up, they kept me waiting for 3 hours, most of the time was in silence when you could hear the phone line was clicked to see if it was still connected, i.e., if I was still holding the line; when they realized I was still on the phone, they clicked the line back and put me on hold again. I finally spoke to the phone, not knowing if there was anyone on the other end. I said that I would file a lawsuit against their company, the way how they have treated me in the last 6-7 weeks and would not release my money.
There isn't any other explanation to describe their unreasonable and unprofessional behavior but the suspicion of their intention to wear their customer out to drop the case, so their company can swallow the remaining balance of our money. Right after I spoke this way, the supervisor right away came back on the line and apologized, but she would transfer me to her manager. I always had to wait for long hours on the phone but even so, I was never able to get an answer from the agent or if they gave me an answer it was always dishonest answers, such as: I never submitted the case; when I called out these dishonest excuses by providing them proof of written email, then, the manager and supervisors would make up another dishonest excuse such as they need to recount the 45-90 days before they can return me the money.
That means I already waited for over 50 days, now I need to wait for another 45-90 days. When I requested a definite day of the end of 90th day, the manager made up another conditions, saying 90 business working days not counting weekend, even though they work 7 days a week. The manager would constantly cross talking over me to fuel the fire rather than to calm down the situation. Not only that, the manager was very unprofessional and demeanor in her manner dealing with customer, she spoke to me as if she making me to do more work with a tone of voice as if she was trying to punish me. There wasn't any moment trying to find solution or answer to where we are with the case after the case was already established for 50 days.
I cannot think about any reason why they would treat costumer this way except they hope the customers would drop the case so they get to keep the rest of the money on the card. I can see that no one will spend this kind of time to be keep going after $100. However, I truly believe that there should be an investigation about this company which take advantage of the situation like mine to rob our money by wearing us out. If anyone here cares enough, please contact the attorney general at Fortson, GA and ask the AG to conduct an investigation against Vanilla Prepaid Card company. They are also called Vanilla Gift.

I cannot stress how poorly this company is ran. First off, I received a gift card for the holidays. Because of this, I didn't get an original receipt but instead an activation slip. I went to a store to purchase things with my supposedly activated card only for it to decline. After spending 30 minutes on hold the first time, I learn the card was supposedly NEVER activated (even though it was BOUGHT and PAID for, with receipt proof).
I was then told I need to 1.) send an email with my case #, photos of the gift card, photos of my valid ID, and the receipt they were paid for. 2.) I wasn't given any timetable initially for a response back for my request. 3.) The email they initially provided me to send the information to was WRONG. IMAGINE the security risk that is. Luckily, the email it would've been sent to, doesn't exist. 4.) I was then forced to call them back AGAIN, spending ANOTHER 30 minutes on hold just to get the correct email to send it to.
Then, 5.) I finally get told it could be up to SEVEN BUSINESS DAYS to get a response, which there is no guarantee my card could be activated, because I have no idea if they'll even accept my evidence provided for the purchase, as all it would take is an arbitrary reason for them to NOT accept the card and then boom, I'm out $150 with no recourse. I will NEVER buy or suggest anyone buys a "Vanilla" branded gift card ever again. Do NOT spend your hard earned money with them. Ridiculous.

The last attempt happened today, January 16th, 2023. I called. I came back to the store and was on hold for over 45 minutes and when I finally got a person, I think, she said that she heard no response and disconnected the call. My blood pressure, is very high and I need to pray before I try this again.

I have been on hold with customer service for over an hour because every time I try to use my card, I can't, and when I try to see my balance there is always a "server issue." I wanted to see if I was the only one having an issue with my card, and turns out, sadly my experience tends to be the norm. I don't blame the customer service associate I am speaking with, but the company itself. I feel like the company just wants your business, have the money, and if you use your card- great, if you can't or fraudulent purchases occur- who cares! There is no chat option other than phone (for help- and the amazing one instrumental song on loop for your enjoyment as you wait). Save yourself the hassle and opt for Amazon gift cards directly or purchase gift cards from companies that have adequate customer service and actually WANT you to spend your (giftcard) money.

They confirmed the charge and was unconcerned it was not me, I disputed the charge and am still waiting for them to send me the paperwork to fill out, tried to check the card again now it just brings up an error. Interesting. I have the card with the 3 digit code on the back, must of been a hack or an inside job. I may have lost all $75!

While I was on phone they allowed the transaction to be processed. It took talking to 3 people to get a dispute form. It is 2 weeks before Christmas and I have nothing for my child. Received a $400 Vanilla gift card on 7-14-22 (purchased at CVS 7-13-22). Checked the balance on 11-29-22 and it was zero. A series of fraudulent transactions mostly to Public Storage were made from 10-12-22 through 10-20-22. After finally getting through to customer service, they said I need to submit a Dispute Form. To get the Dispute Form, they need to open a Case Number and for this they need my Name, Address, Phone, Email, and DOB. I pushed back against the DOB because frankly I do not trust that this entire gift card thing is fraudulent from the top down.
Since I would not give my DOB they said there was nothing they could do. If I did give my information they said the investigation would likely take 45 to 90 days after receiving the Dispute Form and there was no guarantee that funds would be re-established. My advice: Do Not buy Vanilla Gift Cards as they are rife for abuse and the company does not seem too concerned with correcting issues. If you receive a gift card, use it ASAP before the organized fraud gets the funds.

I purchased a card from Best Buy just today, actually. Everything went fine, or so I thought. I stay at home for about 2 hours before deciding to use the card for what I got it for - nothing too fancy, just a 25$ card enough to purchase an item I've held on the backburner for months. Luckily, I managed to get the item, how? Well, I had to create a PayPal account for 1 second because Etsy kept saying my card was 'invalid' or 'incorrect'. That made no sense, I checked the numbers countless times and kept putting it back in, nothing. It gave me the same error.
It worked through PayPal, at least that's what it appeared. I checked my card's balance, boom, 25$ was now 9.97$, it appeared to have worked, I got my product, I was satisfied. Then comes my purchases for the leftover money, purchase was Robux that cost roughly 7$, almost 8$, just enough. Xsolla says gives me an error, I look at "read more" and it says the most common reason is it's not activated, but I've checked the card countless times. It says it's activated and most of the funds are gone. Confused, I look at the transactions, and find the most disgusting thing I've ever seen using a prepaid card.
Lo and behold, in the purchases section it shows 4 pending purchases. 2 from my first purchase, the fee from PayPal and the purchase itself that it clearly showed had gone through. What it says? "PENDING" and then at the end it says "null". I'm confused, this makes no sense to me. My balance is practically gone, yet it says the purchase is still pending? I scroll up and see two more pending purchases, both for the Roblox Xsolla attempts I made that Xsolla said they declined. Excuse me? Those didn't go through, I didn't get my purchase and Xsolla themselves declined it, so why the hell is it in my pending list - TWICE?! I have 2 charges for Xsolla, both 7$, it says the pending amount on the card is 30$ yet every purchase that's pending says 'null'. Implying that not only is it pending, but it's not moving at all, the purchase isn't being made.
I'm afraid I'm going to lose the first purchase I made, so I backed up the files I bought just in case they take back the purchase. This is shady, and absolutely vile of Vanilla Prepaid to do. You may ask, why don't I just contact the company? Read the other reviews, I'm not going to sit for 40-90 days for fraudulent charges just to be hung up and put on hold forever.
NEVER BUY A PREPAID CARD FROM VANILLA PREPAID. IT IS NOT WORTH IT!! I guarantee almost every purchase you make a lot of the cards will have severe errors that completely ruin the purpose of them, whether it be stolen money from bad security, or cards that refuse to work at all despite saying they're activated.
I feel gross that this is considered legal, and this company is considered trustworthy and credible. They're far from it, and these reviews prove that. I'm thankful the funds only ended up being 30$, I'm throwing that card away forever and never touching it again or buying another prepaid from this god awful company until the day I die. I've seen a lot of people say their cards had up to hundreds of dollars, so please, PLEASE check the reviews and credibility of a company before buying something from them that involves money transactions unless you want to go through a headache like I did.

I am absolutely shocked that there have been so many people who have been stolen from, by purchasing these fraudulent Vanilla Visa Gift Cards. I, too, fell victim. My husband and I, over the many years previous, have happily used Vanilla Visa Gift Cards, to use for online purchases, and to gift out for family and friends. BUT this past year, 2022, we began to notice problems with any Vanilla Visa Gift Card we had purchased. The first red flag, the inability to check your balance, whether by phone, or on the website. The phone will respond "we're sorry but your card is invalid". The website says, "System Error, please try again later", but later never comes. And shockingly, when/if a person is able to check their balance, they find that half or all of their balance is GONE, when you haven't even made a purchase yet.
I noticed on one of my gift cards that I'd been allowed to make a few purchases, then, mysteriously was locked out of being able to check my balance, and I knew I had at least $100 left on my balance. So, I called customer service, and got the run around, as others have mentioned. I was told my card was "on hold". I was asked to provide proof of purchase, which I had, and did do. Then, I got another request for me to provide my home address and a copy of my utility bill to verify who I was. So, I submitted a utility bill. Then, was told it would take 40 days or more, and I would receive a replacement card. I was given a case number. On another card that was a gift from my husband to me for our anniversary, again, I'd started making a few purchases, and AGAIN, couldn't check my balance, and AGAIN, they took the last remaining $50 on that card.
The customer service rep had a Middle Eastern accent, and I could hear a baby crying in the background. NEVER AGAIN will myself or any member of my family purchase these fraudulent cards and we have turned them into the Attorney General's Office. These people should be run out of business. Can you imagine the tears of people this Christmas who have either given, or are going to receive these useless cards? My personal experience with the company and their product would indicate they are nothing other than an outright scam, and I am absolutely bewildered that they appear on Visa's own website.
I purchased the card online. I was never sent any kind of email confirmation about my gift card purchase. I did actually receive the card. Their website states you can activate the card online, on the phone, or buy entering a 4-digit code on first purchase. Calling the number on the back of the card does not give any option to activate it. There is no link anywhere on their website to insert the card's information and activate it. The card was declined from every in-store or online purchase I tried to use a 4-digit code on first purchase. Entering the card's info when on the phone or their website "check balance" options just gives an error.
When calling customer service I was told they refused to activate the card and could only open a case file. The "customer service" agent actually even accused me of stealing the gift card even though I had all information about the order number, shipping location and date, and originally purchased credit card number. Ultimately, I was able to document everything including recording my call with customer service and issued a charge-back through my credit card company and won the dispute.

It's worked fine for years... until just now. I last used one of these about six months. I use felt tip marker to track my balance on the back. I know the balance. The vanillagift.com site gives a "A system error has occurred. Please try again later." error at the top for both. Re-typed both twice. One merchant declined the cards. Tried another merchant that has accepted them in the past to double check, and still declined. Called the help number on the card and got "very important to us" message over and over and the same clip of music over and over for 15 minutes, then clicks, then silence for half an hour now. Looks like I'm out about $65.
It sure seems like Vanilla is having a serious security incident. Target had an apparently similar incident several years back, where sequentially issued gift card numbers meant hackers could just guess the security code for one card at a time and then move on to the next. Either way, Vanilla clearly has not done enough to protect customer's money. Also happened to notice that this is issued by MetaBank, the same otherwise unheard of financial outfit that was doing stimulus payment cards.

They have ZERO good reviews...I mean ZERO!!!...REALLY!!? The only reason they have ALL 1 star reviews is because there is NO option to leave a zero stars...or less.
When I went to try and talk to the fraud department about this. the thief representative that I talked to, not only hung up as soon as I told her not to worry about why I wanted to talk to "FRAUD" department. When I tried to call them back, it took 5 straight hours before they answered, they left me on hold all day, knowing who I was. When I finally got through, they were all gathered around behind this rep. I could hear them talking and laughing. I guess other people's money is a big joke down at thief headquarters. Vanilla card is a scam and they're in business with the scammers from **. You know the ones. My 15-year-old daughter received a $125 Vanilla Visa gift card in May 2021, from my parents. The expiration date on the card is 8/28. The card was not used until today, 9/17/2022. She tried to use it today and it was declined at the store. She called the number on the card, and she was told a purchase was made on the card 9/7/2021 for $125 on Amazon. We did not make any purchases on it, as it sat in a drawer until now. My wife and I will gladly share our Amazon purchase history for the month of September to show we did not use the card. The individual my daughter spoke to at 1-800-571-1376 the listed contact number for Vanilla Visa Gift Card issues said she does not deal with disputes, read the card agreement, that is all that I can do for you. This isn't a dispute, a common criminal, called a thief, secured the numbers off of the card and used it before we did.
Vanilla Visa needs to post a statement "Use your gift card as soon as you get it, we cannot guarantee the security of the card at all, criminals may already have the number and will use it before you do." Someone obviously secured the cards numbers and used the card before we did. Thank you, Vanilla Visa for standing behind your products. I have already spread the word to my family, friends and neighbors, on different chat boards, that Vanilla Visa doesn't care about the customer. Your agreement is garbage! The money was never there for my 15-year-old daughter to use.
I am glad that you are here to support the criminals who didn't work for a dime of the money they stole from our family. Keep up the good work, I will continue to let people know that you don't care about the consumer or their rights. If it costs you more money maybe, you need to figure out a way to make the cards more secure so they can actually be used by the people they are intended for.
So much for saving something for a rainy day. We try to teach our children to not spend everything as soon as you get it. When I told my parents they were quite upset. My mom is 80 and my dad is 76, they are on a fixed income and cannot just send another $125 gift card. We paid for what we wanted without using the new gift card that already has a zero balance on it. This is posted on Next Door and elsewhere on the web. My card information was phished by a third party site that I was redirected to after clicking the wrong link that was presented by a Google Search, I thought I was checking my balance from the vanillagift.com website and didn't notice until after I had entered my card details that I was on a site http://mybalancenow.com - Soon after I entered my card details the available funds were used up in a fraudulent transaction, I called the Vanilla Gift card customer support and they were unable to stop payment on the transaction even though the payment had yet to post. The transaction was pending and even though I had provided all the card details, and insisted that the last transaction was fraudulent, Vanilla Gift would not cancel it. The only recourse you have for a fraudulent transaction is to wait until the transaction posts and then to file a dispute through Vanilla Gift, which I'm told can take 45 to 90 days. If your card details or phished or compromised this is the only way that it is possible to recoup your funds.
The issue is that the card was used a handful of times prior to the fraudulent transaction, and every time it was used a zip code and address was required. Well, you'd think that Vanilla Gift would notice that the zip code and the address submitted in the fraudulent transaction was distinctly different from the zip code and the address used for the previous transactions and cancel the pending transaction before it posted but no, the company insists that the fraudulent transaction posts, and that the only way to them recoup your funds is through the dispute process. In that way, Vanilla Gift customer service and the fraud prevention system is a liability.

I immediately called the “customer care” number on the back and after at least 15 minutes of being on hold…I was told there was 3 purchases made “online” to tech companies I had never heard of. Was then told to file a dispute which took 3 months!!
I finally got a new card in May. I found some sunglasses which I normally wouldn’t buy because again…I’m looking for special things but for certain reasons…decided to return them and after two months since the return I have yet to see any credit at all. I purchased that gift card on June 17th at CVS Pharmacy in 909 E Lumsdend Rd, Brandon, Fl 33511. Few days later, I went on Vanilla Gift Card's website to check the activation when I remembered they stole a $50.00 from me before.
Again, that gift card had no money in it. It stated a "zero balance". I ripped the package myself to take out the gift card but there was no $25.00 on the card. There was a charge pending for $25.00 from an online store name "Bohetangllc.com". I never heard of such store before. I Quickly called Vanilla with the number from the back of the card. The customer service is horrible. I waited for 15 minutes and talked with a representative for 45 minutes explaining that I never used the card and to cancel the pending charge. I sent them my receipt and nothing was resolved. They went on approved the pending charge anyway. They sent a "dispute form." I filled it out and sent back the same day. They were very unprofessional, untrustworthy, unethical, and lied constantly.
The representatives of Vanilla Gift Card contradicted themselves constantly. To make that long exasperating experience short, after they told me 90 days to get their investigation complete, I went on the Bohetang website and got their info myself. I called them and they never picked up the phone so I emailed them. I got a response from Dawei ** and the gift card was refunded.
Now, I let Vanilla Gift Card know and requested my money back. They said "we can't put the money back but we'll send you a replacement card". After it has been 3 weeks, since they said they will send a "replacement card", I called today June 12th, 2022 to be precise. The representative was ill informed about everything after I gave her the case ticket # **, gift card number, expiration date, and 3 digit codes on the back.
I asked to speak to the supervisor. After a long wait, a "supervisor named Cole" came on the phone. She was also ill informed and stated that "there was no request for a replacement card". I got extremely frustrated with her. Now, she said "you'll get a replacement card in 7-10 business days". I now believe they are part of the scam and they should not be in business scamming people. People really need to stay away from them. That gift card number is: ** Exp 07/26 digit codes 400. This is really bad and nasty what they are doing. They need to be stopped. They should not be selling a fraudulent gift card like that. They should not be in business. They showed absolutely no respect to consumers.
The Vanilla Gift Card Company does not care one bit about the frauds that are going on with their gift cards with the way they respond to consumers and stealing people's money. Even after this Bohetang refunded my gift card, that refund is still being kept on Vanilla's Gift Card account. This is really concerning. They are part of the scam. They need to be accountable for their actions. My $ 25.00 will not be stolen from me. They already made me lose the activation fee of $3.95 but they will not keep my $25.00.
I hope people read reviews before they purchase things because that will help them avoid a lot of heartaches from scammers like Vanilla Gift Card Company. This is the second time that I have this bad experience with them and that's the last time for me. But there was a balance of $19.86 which I tried to use at Daedalus Books yesterday. The book for $6.98 plus tax plus shipping came to $18.43, LESS than the $19.86 on the card. The card was declined. The Vanilla Card Instructions -- printed on Monday, January 4, 2021 -- said "If you have any additional questions or need assistance, please call us at 1-844-433-7898" so I called that number. The person at that number said they were no longer servicing Vanilla Card (probably they got tired of all the complaints) and that the NEW number was 1-800-571-1376. I called that number and - as you might guess - got no satisfaction. No live representative was available. There was no option to ASK for a representative. I told my company not to use this vendor anymore.
I urge all the well-spoken people who have filed a report on this site to look up the address of your state attorney general and write to him or her about this company. I also urge you to find the address of the chief executive officer of Vanilla Gift Card and write him a letter - the kind with a STAMP - about your experience. The recent comment from the person who lost $1,000 was REALLY disturbing. Folks don't turn your salary payment into a gift card. There HAS to be a better way. Open an account at a local bank or use cash. Another alarm bell with this Vanilla card is this statement that they make on their instructions: "Please note: some transaction types require a hold of up to 20 percent ABOVE the purchase amount." If so, how do you spend the last part of the amount on your card?
The gift card business makes money from all the unused money on the card. If it's 3 or 4 percent of the value of the card, that should be STATED CLEARLY UP FRONT by the vendor. But if they are going to rip you off for the entire value of the card, that's a completely different story. Those of you who posted about this card should be sure to tell all your friends about your experience. Retailers should stop carrying and displaying these cards in their gift-card racks.

To get the money on the card I have to magically remember which exact person gave this specific gift card, and magically hope that they've kept the receipt. Because yeah - that's what people do when they buy gift cards. Never had this issue before. Also, it is not listed in their consumer agreement that if a card is not activated that it's on the consumer's side to resolve by procuring the receipt. So they basically stole $104.99.

My father bought me a 200.00 one at Walgreens. I get it register the card and started to use it that day. I went online and started ordering from Amazon. The first three items were under ten dollars then I purchased tattoo ink which was 49.00 then a couple more things after that purchase. The next day everything was cancelled except for tattoo ink. I was pissed. At 254 am someone took 110.00 then 7.00 then another 7.00 then .43 cents. When I woke up the next day 43 cents was still pending I called customer service and seemed like they didn’t want to help me. Told me to contact the person. All it said next to amounts taken was Samsung. And that it was someone in China. Well I told them the company, "No you find these people."
The gift card company is insured and probably can find out more info. They told me after I send back my dispute forms they will investigate. The entire 90 days no one from company called me or emailed me so finally after one week after 90 days were up I called. The lady asked me, "How much do you expect back?" I said, "124.00" then she says the card was processed yesterday. And don’t worry it’s coming back to me. My issue is the company seemed fishy. Not one of my conversations with these people were professional or sincere. And they never said when card should arrive in the mail. I will never ever use another Vanilla card ever again. It takes a scammer a minute to ruin our lives but eternity to get our money back. Lesson has been learned no more gift cards for me and my family. Cash only.

A representative name Sky came on, she informed me that an educational company called MFC in Oregon, had been paid using the card at 3:47 pm. I informed her it was 3:31 pm right now at my location and time zones are hours apart. There was no resolution to where the funds went on my $50 gift card. The funds were used on 5/10/22 the day I activated and checked the balance on my card. I purchased a Vanilla gift card for an online purchase, for the first time. They advertise it as being able to use it online, yet most online sites rejected it, because there is no zip code or address associated with it. They do not allow registration, not even a zip code. I called customer service, and was only able to speak to someone when I pressed: lost card. She confirmed that yes, it could not be registered, and she was sorry that all the online sites were rejecting it, but maybe other vendors might accept it. Do not waste your time and money on this card. It is useless.

On April 23,2022 at 8:55am. My husband and I purchased a Vanilla Visa Card. The card was put up with its original packaging that it purchased in. The card was still wrapped up in the Walmart bag, along with the gift card gift box. We took the gift card to church on Sunday April 24, 2022 to give to the graduation recipient. On Saturday May 7, 2022, while I am out of town for Mother's Day. I received a message from the recipient stating that the card had already been used. Called the number on the back of the card, and it started that there was an issue with the card. It must be activated at the store that it was purchased at. Went back to Walmart, they said that they can't do anything we had to contact the company.
Called the number on the back of the card, spoke with a representative. She stated that it would take 45-90 business days for the investigation. Absolutely not, you didn't take 45-90 business days to take my money. It is not fair to paying customers to take our money and play around with your non-diligent efforts of resolving the issue. I further told the representative. That someone from the company must be writing the gift card numbers down and obviously are using them. Not only are they using them, you're selling them to merchants. Her reply was, "Well if that's what you think." What kind of response is that if your company is legally legit and running their business professionally. Now I would have defended my company to the end. It's not right that this allowed. People work hard for their money!! Vanilla need to right all of their wrongs!! Or either shut your business down!!

I, like many others here, received a Vanilla PrePaid Visa card that was declined because someone else had fraudulently used it and drained the balance. Vanilla PrePaid either has a very lax fraud detection system or is part of the scam. Either way, customer service is useless. Fortunately, there are many alternatives on the market. I would strongly suggest using another company. Retailers selling this company's crap should take note that they are dealing with a scam operation.

When we contacted customer support, they forwarded us the paperwork to "open an investigation" and would get back to us within 30 days. 3 months later they won't return our emails or calls. Any attempt to check the balance of the card to see if issue have been resolved have been met with the card being erased from the system because the numbers I enter become invalid.
The company is the front for a scam group to swindle people out of gift card money after activation, very much like the ones you see scamming elderly people into giving them Target or Best Buy gift cards to "fix a financial problem involving their Amazon account". If you unfortunately are given one of these as a gift, wait until you get to a computer, activate it and IMMEDIATELY buy Amazon credit with it to empty it.

Cannot be used to send money to friends or pay bills if you use Venmo / Cashapp / Zelle - which feels like an arbitrary limitation. Was given a few cards from work as a bonus and asked Vanilla if I could consolidate them into one card so I could use all the funds on one large purchase. Was not an option according to customer support. Because of this I can't really use the money how I actually want. You also can't perform a partial payment with the card. This means I will likely never actually spend the full balance and am annoyed that I have to 'finesse' my spending to get the full value out of the card. Their virtual cards feel like a very limited and poorly designed product. These limitations are not stated up front and make using the cash you've been given difficult. If you're a business I'd recommend choosing any other way of sending money instead of Vanilla.

Fast forward April 1st I bought something from an online merchant for 58.02 and it went through with no issue at all.
Fast forward April 3rd I tried buying another item from the same online merchant but the card was denied to insufficient funds. I knew something was not right as I had only spent 58 dollars from the 100 dollars that was on my card meaning I should have had more money. I checked my balance only to see 2 cents left.
