My mother in law was scammed by an email and purchased 2 $200 Vanilla visa gift cards, took photos and sent them to the “friend” in need. When the scam was discovered the next morning and I checked the cards, the funds were still there. I contacted Vanilla customer service number on the back of the cards immediately and explained the situation asking if I could transfer the funds to my credit card before the scammer used them. The customer service person said yes and acquired my Visa credit card information, my name and personal information to transfer the funds. They gave me a confirmation number and said they will transfer the funds. I called a second time to be sure this was how to handle it and got a second conf. Number.
Today I call (one week later) to check on it and was transferred in the middle of explaining/asking. Each person I was transferred to was disrespectful and not interested in resolving the problem. I checked and both cards were spent/posted at Walmart the day after calling vanilla customer service to “transfer the $ to my account.” The customer service person today said they do not transfer the funds to credit cards, only a bank account. Why didn’t they tell me that last week? Both calls last week took my credit card info and never explained to transfer into bank only.
Consequently, I also had 3 fraud charges on my visa credit card that posted the same day after calling Vanilla visa and needed to cancel my current visa credit card and get a new one. Vanilla visa gift card company never sought to help or resolve the issue nor cared about the fact that they misled me or made any errors in the initial issue request. My impression was each person has one script and anything or any problem outside of that they push to the next person.

I bought $25 Vanilla gift card for my teen to take it to his sport competition last Saturday, so that he can buy some food and also because I didn’t want to give him my credit card for this. Of course I registered it. Do you think my kid was able to eat his lunch with his team this day? Of course not, otherwise I wouldn’t write all that here. That “vanilla” was declined when he tried to pay $14 on it at the cafeteria. In short, this gift card was just a waste of money.

My son received a $75 Vanilla Visa Gift card as a gift. The packing was perfectly intact. When he opened there were four digits scratched off the front and the security code on the back was also scratched off. It seems this is a COMMON problem. I have no idea how this company is still able to sell these cards. It’s an absolute scam. We have tried contacting customer service multiple times with no success. I have filed a formal complaint with the FDIC as I believe this entire company is a sham. Do not buy!!!!

DO NOT BUY A VANILLA GIFT CARD. I know the balance I have remaining is greater than the voice recording says. They don't have an email address for contacts and the telephone line will not allow you to reach a person. I tried to use their website to see my last transaction-an option their website claims is possible and when I tried I was .... sent to the Target.com website. I have used other Visa gift cards in the past and never had problems. AVOID THESE THIEVES.

I purchased a $200.00 gift card at Walgreen on 6/16/23. Opened the card and last 4 digits on the card were missing. I called Customer Service and they advised it would take 7 to 10 business days to receive a replacement card. On July 2nd I called and asked where my replacement card was. Customer Service rep asked for my address and when she read the wrong address to me she advised that an error was made on the address and she shut down the card that was lost in the mail. On July 7th I received the card that was mis- addressed.
I called Customer Service again and I advised I got the mis-addressed card but she refused to reactivate the card. I am now waiting again for a replacement card!!! By my calculations this company will have held my $200 for 40+ days as I'm assuming that my card won't get here until the week of July 24th. This is absolute insanity for a company to take this long to refund the $200. Warning to ALL...NEVER BUY A VANILLA PREPAID GIFT CARD!!!

My mother sent me a $50 Visa gift card purchased from Walgreens in June. She came to visit me this past weekend and brought the Gift card receipts. I contacted Walgreen to replace the cards. I was told to contact the Merchant (Vanilla). I called Vanilla and spoke with a representative today, explained my problem. He asked for the card number. When I provided it, he transferred my call to the cue during the middle of me speaking. I got another representative. I asked for a Supervisor to report the previous representative once I was assisted. This representative asked for the last four digits of the card number. As I gave it, the call was transferred. I just heard music. I was on hold for 45 minutes. I hung up and called back. I held for just over an hour. I got a supervisor who took my dispute with outlandish requests. He asked me to submit a copy of the receipt, Driver’s License, and proof of address such as utility bill.
I asked him what does my DL and proof of residency have to do with the dispute. He said it’s their policy. I said you have the card to look up the transaction so why is it so difficult to confirm the card was purchased with you all! "It is our policy." I said, "Provide me a copy of the policy indicating you need my personal information and I will send it." He stated he can’t send it. I said, "I have a right to request it so if you can’t provide it, you will get the gift card receipt and nothing else." I further explained the bank and major card companies don’t request this information. He said, "That’s our policy." I said, "Well I trust the back over a credit card company because they are FDIC insured, you are not."
I informed him if I am not reimbursed or given a new card, I am writing complaints with the Consumer Fair Reporting Agency, BBB, CFPS, and the card company used to pay for the card. They are just awful. I read the previous reviews and this is clearly an inside job probably even an outside job too. This company needs to be thoroughly investigated. If enough people write their Congressman and the Whitehouse complaint line, something will eventually happen. The Consumer Fair Reporting Agency or Consumer Financial Protection Services starts investigating when they see a pattern of the same complaints from consumers. Go there and write your complaint as well.

I purchased a card and the three digit security code on the back could not be revealed to allow activation. Box seemed to be covered with a very had adhesive. When I tried to call customer service, it doesn't actually connect you to a rep but gives you information on trivial pieces of information and no mention of the security code box.
Very unprofessional and now I am out the purchase of the 50.00 card and no clear way to get a refund. Never use this card. There are many good gift or prepaid debit cards BUT THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT ONE OF THEM! Horrible customer service. And no way to tell if the security code box issue will happen to you before you purchase these worthless cards.

I bought a gift card online on father's day and after I tried to make a purchase they said that the card was on hold, I understood why they would put it on hold considering it was sent through an email and you never know the possibility of somebody making a purchase hacking through the card. I called them the next day and they said they would send a replacement card in 7-10 business days. I waited for a week and still didn't see it in the mail but I tried to be patient and wait a couple more days. At this point I had almost been waiting 2 weeks so I decided to call the number on the back of the card to see if it was still being sent, the lady told me the same thing - to wait 7-10 business days. It didn't make it any better that I waited for 30 minutes to be put on call to hear information I was already informed about.
Today, this morning they said "card" came in the mail. I was excited because I had been waiting and was super excited to use it without any problems. I open the envelope and what I see isn't a card. Instead, a check. If I knew it was going to come in the mail as a check I would have just asked for a refund and buy the card at my local food lion. I also would've preferred if they added the additional money I paid for the card to be activated + how much I put in it but instead they just sent me how much was on the card. This process was extremely annoying and all this could've been avoided if they were more honest with their customers. I wouldn't recommend buying a card online, next time I'll know to buy it with cash.

Gave my son a $100 Vanilla Visa Gift Card for Father's Day.... I purchased it at Walgreens and looked it over carefully to make sure it had not been tampered with. He opened it last night... And saw that 4 digits on the front and the security code on the back were scratched out! So I called the number on the back of the card and told them what happened! Got someone in India... They asked me for my full name, address, phone number and birth date... Then they proceeded to tell me that I needed to email them a copy of my receipt, a copy of the front and back of the card and a copy of the front and back of my driver's license! I'm still not comfortable sending my driver's license that has all MY personal info. on it! I asked if I could conceal my DL number before sending it and he told me No! They would not accept that!
I am not the criminal here... And how do I know how they store our personal info. That is everything someone needs to commit Identity theft! They also said I need to wait 30 days before giving them a follow up call! In my opinion... The entire complaint process.. Waiting 30 days to be told anything.. And them needing any more personal information other than my name address and phone number is totally unacceptable!!! That with a copy of the F & B of card and the receipt is more than sufficient! I see on here.. I am far from being the only one who this has happened to... They also know that cards are being sold with digits scratched out on the F & B! It's got to be someone from the inside who is doing this!!! I found complaints from others who also opened a new card with no apparent tampering of the outer cover going back to at least 2014!!!
Yet they are putting customers who have paid $100 for a gift card and can prove it.. On the back burner for 30 days and requiring them to send in all their personal information! ... And they still would not tell me if they would refund my money or replace the card when I asked him... He said they would have to do an investigation and he could not tell me that! Knowing I purchased that card.. And that I did not use it... And knowing this exact problem has been occurring and coming from the inside for at least 9 years... And this is how they treat the unfortunate customer who has purchased one of their cards!! It's just wrong on every level!!!
I ended up giving my son cash in place of the card... Because I can only imagine it being worse for the recipient having to go thru all this to receive their intended gift.. Only to find out after 30 days and possible identity theft they won't! Shame on Vanilla Visa for knowingly participating by financially benefiting from a scam within their own company that they have done absolutely nothing to fix as they put customers through personal **!!! The only consolation is knowing they will never get the opportunity to do this to me again!

My son received a $100 Vanilla Gift Card (Visa card) for his high school graduation. He opened the card (the package was sealed) and somehow 4 of the 16 digits of the card as well as the security code on the back had been scratched out. It was not usable. He took it back to the CVS where it had just been purchased by his friend the day before and he had the receipt from the purchase. They were kind enough to believe him and replace the card (there was still a $100 balance on it at the time). He received his replacement card and the CVS manager had him buy a pack of gum just to be sure it worked. It did. He then took it home and activated it. That evening he tried to use it at a restaurant and they told him it didn't work.
We then went online to check the balance and the full balance, after the gum purchase, had been used at Target. I see after reading many of these comments that this same thing has happened to many others and some people have specifically mentioned Target! Clearly someone at Vanilla Gift Card has access to this and it turning it into their own scam. I plan to post everywhere I possibly can on every social media outlet to NOT buy these cards. This is ridiculous that someone spent $100 of their money to buy my son a gift and someone else used it. You can't get through to Vanilla Gift card...I've been on hold for 30 minutes and nothing... which is what every other comment on here is saying. CONSUMER AFFAIRS... PLEASE DO SOMETHING TO SHUT THIS COMPANY DOWN!

I was skeptical that I went to Target at 8 AM on a Tuesday and purchased anything-- cross-checked it with my Google timeline to find that in fact I had not gone there. Nor did my bank debit or credit cards reveal any excess charges from Target. There's definitely fraudulent risk involved.
I always thought pre-paid gift cards were an idea because you're paying an extra $5 or so as an activation fee for a piece of pollution. If you're thinking of gifting money, just give them paper cash.

After 2 days of on and off trying to check the balance, it showed 2 payments to someone through PayPal of 20.99. I tried contacting Vanilla and after an hour on hold I managed to get a person. She took all the information and told me it would be 45 to 90 days for them to investigate it. They deactivated the card which still had funds left on it.
I contacted Paypal and was mediately told the name of the person who hacked the card information. Paypal did an investigation and told me they couldn't do anything and I told them that at least they found out who did it and that is more than Vanilla did. After 2 months I still haven't got the $44.00 they stole. Needless to say I don't buy them anymore and I encourage those I know not to as well. I did not, so I called again, this time waiting about 40 min to speak to someone.
They seemed even more clueless than the first person, asking me over and over for my name, phone number, the card number, at first telling me there was paperwork I should have submitted, then telling me their system wasn't working at the moment and they couldn't access the information, then telling me there was nothing they could do and the issue would just "resolve itself eventually," there wasn't anyone else I could speak to, and there is no way for me, or my employer, to cancel the card. I waited for customer service for 30 minutes and was told the card was rejected because restaurants do that if the bill is over the card limit. I was then told the card was valid. I asked for a supervisor. After another 30 minutes I spoke with "Loria" who claimed to be the supervisor. She finally agreed to request a refund check for me, but said it will take 3 weeks. I went to put a zip code on my card on their website and it said there was a problem with my card. I called customer service and they were no help at all in unlocking my card. I have purchased a vanilla gift card before and had no problem putting a zip code on the card on their website and she said that you can’t attach a zip code to the card, even though I have done it previously before. She said I had to get a new card which would take 7-10 business days, so I asked for a refund which she said would take 3 weeks and I had to send in documentation to verify my address. Such a hassle and waste of time and who knows when I’ll actually get my refund. DO NOT PURCHASE A VANILLA GIFT CARD, unless you want something to go wrong.

I sent in the dispute paperwork and they found someone had comprised the card most likely computer generated for the numbers. 2 hours on hold each time I called and 20 emails later. They only sent a replacement card of $78.22. I called again and they stated I had to wait 48 hours to reload the card from the merchant. 2 week later, still zero balance. There was also another gift card I received and there was 0 on it also. No merchant receipt since it was gift so I am out another $100.00.
I would not ever buy these cards or give out as gifts. They couldn't even get my address correct due to language barrier out of the USA. This card is nothing but a big scam and the customer service is the worst. All other reviews on these cards are accurate. Do yourself a favor and stay away from these cards. I would not even give this a star, but I had to pick something. Someone needs to go to court and get them off the shelves at the store. When ask for a manager, they don't connect you. I hadn't had a problem with them in the past until these past 2 days. I bought a $65 card, paid in cash, and when I got home, I found out that the employee who checked me out voided my order and still took my money. When I tried to check my balance on the website, it told me a system error occurred. I went back to the store, told a manager, they refunded me and I bought another card. This one seemed to have worked when I got it. I put the info into their website and it showed my correct balance. I bought something off Amazon for my mom, checked again, and the balance had changed accordingly.
However, today when I tried to buy something online with the card, it refused to take it, saying something had gone wrong with the card. I went to put it into the website again, and now it's telling me that there was a system error. The exact same message as before. I'm currently on hold on their phone, and have been for the past 30 minutes. Called the customer support number which asked for the card details, and an automated system explained "there is something wrong with your card."
Then the system put me on hold for a representative which lasted 20 minutes. The customer service rep was difficult to understand (seems they outsource their customer service center to somewhere in southwest Asia). They said the card was not activated and they need me to send them a copy of my ID, the purchase receipt, and a copy of an ID, and then after a week or so, they would activate it. Within minutes I went to amazon to load my amazon account so I could make a purchase. It was declined. I tried several times thinking maybe I entered wrong. Nope. I went to vanilla site again and the site itself would not work for this card, it was not a site error because it worked for my other card just fine. I tried and tried and tried. It kept saying to try again. By the time I got into the site the next day the balance was 200. I did the same thing with amazon. Again Declined.
Now today, I can actually see the transactions on vanilla and I see all my transactions declined but there are approved PAYPAL transactions with this: PAYPAL *ZHANGSHAAOJ -! Like what the heck, right? Now I am currently on hold with Vanilla for almost an hour and NO ANSWERS to what happened or how it can happen? Seriously? Do not buy Vanilla gift cards. They are not reliable and there is no customer service worthy of the amount of money I have spent on these cards over the years~~!
The rep tells me that their policy is that it is like cash and therefore has the same risk. However, how is that possible when the card NEVER left my possession? It has been sitting under my computer keyboard and no one had access to it. This is crazy. I asked to speak to a supervisor, manager, vice president, CEO anyone and they put me hold and here I sit on hold AGAIN! The Vanilla Gift customer service supervisor said that they are aware of the fake websites that look amazingly like Vanilla's and that customers should type in the web address manually rather than search for it. I responded that that should be in big giant red letters on the packaging - It is not on the packaging at all. I am now certain that this is an internal crime of some kind. Two cards were simultaneously drained, one was cancelled and a replacement card was supposed to come in the mail. The other one was supposed to be investigated after 90 days. The one that was supposed to come in the mail never came. When we called, it was never actually sent. We were told it would be sent again. It never came. So we called again and again they said they would send it they did not. It was never sent. So we asked for a refund and they asked for a picture of our drivers license and the receipt for the card and said that they would give us a refund.
They did not give us a refund, and when we called to ask, we were told that they do not do that, and that the camp the card and question does not exist, and if we read the fine print, we would see the issues of refunds are not something that they do. The other card shows up as nonexistent and when questioned the hangup. These cards were gifts for children for Christmas. I am certain that there is some kind of internal theft that probably amounts to a very, very large sum and big Vanilla Visa is aware. We need a class action lawsuit, 2023.

Finally today… I went with Visa’s suggestion and contacted InComm for answers. No answer through the number so I sent a long email to the address provided. Copied that and sent it to all available emails. Simply stated I was making one last attempt to reach out for help and was going to have to report to FTC, etc. and that the amount of horror stories that are exactly the same is alarming. Sent those through and thought about trying just the 2nd number not associated with my first 6 digits one last time. After 30 minutes of Freebird and no response to my emails… searched google for a number I missed and not a minute later I heard a voice on the other end.
So the 2nd # got me in contact with someone finally. The 1st number is a waste of time. She told me my card had “suspicious activity” and “could have been compromised” so they put it on hold. New card. First purchase. A hold that turns into this mess. The woman was not very nice. There was no way to undo the hold. She said she would send another out and it would arrive in 7-10 business days. I asked for some sort of confirmation and was told my current cancelled card is now is my confirmation of our discussion. I was very confused. And, for a pinch of comfort I was told if it doesn’t show up after 10 business days-call back and they’ll get it figured out.
I can’t do 9 hours of Freebird again. So, I at least spoke to a person. I may have a gift card heading to me in the mail. Not worth the trouble. Things need to change. Worst experience I’ve had and would never recommend this company. It’s a gamble if you’ll have a working card. They can put a hold on your card/money for a change in wind direction. They can’t undo that hold. You’re unable to contact through text or email to quickly clear things up. They don’t have anything on their website or automated phone options to solve a problem. You have to hope they follow through on sending you a replacement. It’s not worth it.
If I had a card that had a large amount of money on it. I would be so mad. You’re money you have to hope you’ll be able to spend in the next month. Hopefully you don’t go crazy and suspiciously try to buy groceries and put another hold on it. Yeah. Cash is better. Other prepaid cards have an online customer service. Don’t give this company your time or money. The continuous loop of Freebird for hours in hold just about perfectly sums it up.

I offered to mail in the card so they could destroy it and re-issue or even credit the original purchase. They said that would make no difference that the card was unusable unless I could get the receipt. So now in 5 years they'll take the money spent on the card to their bottom line. I'm not comfortable sending a copy of my ID especially after reading previous reviews. Thoughts? Is it even worth it to file the dispute?

Allegedly they will investigate it. All I got is a case number after all the inconvenience, wrecked plans, and wasted time and nerves. I was gifted a 25$ Vanilla prepaid Visa for Christmas and activated it on 1/14. I went to the grocery store on 1/19 and it wouldn’t work. I then call the # on the back of the card and asked why? They proceeded to tell me it had a zero balance due to a purchase in the amount of 25$ to Apple on the very SAME day that I activated it. Following some research of my own, I found out that scammers go to stores and supposedly take pics of all info on the cards and then after they are purchased and activated they’re notified and can use them.
Now I don’t know if this is what happened with my card but I can say it’s either one of two things: 1) Exactly what I just explained regarding scammers or 2) this company is running an inside job. Whatever the deal is this is completely unacceptable. I have read numerous reviews with people on here saying this exact same thing happened to them. Vanilla corp takes no responsibility for any of these claims nor refunds anyone’s money! I agree with a previous complaint on here and I too will also be looking into starting a class action lawsuit.

Total scam/fraud from my very first purchase on my $100 card. Called customer service and filled out a form from for Vanilla to get a reimbursement due to a faulty charge on the Vanilla card and it's been over 120 days. I contacted customer service and waited over an hour on hold. When I finally got to talk to a customer rep they could not understand me and I barely could understand them. When I try to look up my card online or check my balance the site states a system fault and to try back later. This happens every time. My card now is on hold and I can't place any charges on it or make any transactions. DO NOT buy this card. Highly recommend that you DO NOT buy this card. Really really bad customer service. Very POOR business on their part. I have lost the $100 and guess I'll never get refunded. They have outright stole the money from me... There is nothing I can do about it.

I started to use Vanilla prepaid card a few years ago. The service the company was fairly good, but in this last 2 years, I noticed the company had a major shift to the worse. For every call, I have to wait at least for an hour before I can talk to someone. In this last Good Friday, I made a purchase with the Vanilla prepaid card, but the vendor's website was suspicious because the website has a button asked the buyer to click on "Continue" but there wasn't any page show up to ask if the buyer agrees to pay for xx amount. It went directly to a page to confirm the order.
I called Vanilla company right away to stop the payment. Their response was No, they would not stop the payment, but asked me to call back the following week. I did what they said, but ever since then, they locked up my card and would not let me use it, nor acknowledge that I am the owner of the card, and wanting me to provide all kinds of proof that I am the owner of the card. I still have about $100. I provided all the proofs they asked of me except the receipt. It is unreasonable demand to show a receipt for a value $500 card which I purchased a year ago, plus there isn't any instruction on the card or on their website advising consumers to keep their receipt in the case if our card is stolen or lost, we should provide receipt as a proof.
In the last few year, I had lost my card once, they re-issued a card with no hassle at all; no receipt required. This time, I provided personal ID, copy of possession of card and where I had spent my money with the card. The agent told me it's sufficient, but for over 50 days now, they continue locking up the card and told me there wasn't any record showing that I had submitted my case. When I show them the email the detail when I submitted the case, they changed another reason to dismissed me saying I need to show receipt which is impossible to provide.
Every time when I called to find out what they are doing with my case, they would intentionally let me wait on the phone for a long time to see if I would give up and hang up the phone. Today I wanted to get to the bottom of it, so I wait until someone show up, they kept me waiting for 3 hours, most of the time was in silence when you could hear the phone line was clicked to see if it was still connected, i.e., if I was still holding the line; when they realized I was still on the phone, they clicked the line back and put me on hold again. I finally spoke to the phone, not knowing if there was anyone on the other end. I said that I would file a lawsuit against their company, the way how they have treated me in the last 6-7 weeks and would not release my money.
There isn't any other explanation to describe their unreasonable and unprofessional behavior but the suspicion of their intention to wear their customer out to drop the case, so their company can swallow the remaining balance of our money. Right after I spoke this way, the supervisor right away came back on the line and apologized, but she would transfer me to her manager. I always had to wait for long hours on the phone but even so, I was never able to get an answer from the agent or if they gave me an answer it was always dishonest answers, such as: I never submitted the case; when I called out these dishonest excuses by providing them proof of written email, then, the manager and supervisors would make up another dishonest excuse such as they need to recount the 45-90 days before they can return me the money.
That means I already waited for over 50 days, now I need to wait for another 45-90 days. When I requested a definite day of the end of 90th day, the manager made up another conditions, saying 90 business working days not counting weekend, even though they work 7 days a week. The manager would constantly cross talking over me to fuel the fire rather than to calm down the situation. Not only that, the manager was very unprofessional and demeanor in her manner dealing with customer, she spoke to me as if she making me to do more work with a tone of voice as if she was trying to punish me. There wasn't any moment trying to find solution or answer to where we are with the case after the case was already established for 50 days.
I cannot think about any reason why they would treat costumer this way except they hope the customers would drop the case so they get to keep the rest of the money on the card. I can see that no one will spend this kind of time to be keep going after $100. However, I truly believe that there should be an investigation about this company which take advantage of the situation like mine to rob our money by wearing us out. If anyone here cares enough, please contact the attorney general at Fortson, GA and ask the AG to conduct an investigation against Vanilla Prepaid Card company. They are also called Vanilla Gift.

I cannot stress how poorly this company is ran. First off, I received a gift card for the holidays. Because of this, I didn't get an original receipt but instead an activation slip. I went to a store to purchase things with my supposedly activated card only for it to decline. After spending 30 minutes on hold the first time, I learn the card was supposedly NEVER activated (even though it was BOUGHT and PAID for, with receipt proof).
I was then told I need to 1.) send an email with my case #, photos of the gift card, photos of my valid ID, and the receipt they were paid for. 2.) I wasn't given any timetable initially for a response back for my request. 3.) The email they initially provided me to send the information to was WRONG. IMAGINE the security risk that is. Luckily, the email it would've been sent to, doesn't exist. 4.) I was then forced to call them back AGAIN, spending ANOTHER 30 minutes on hold just to get the correct email to send it to.
Then, 5.) I finally get told it could be up to SEVEN BUSINESS DAYS to get a response, which there is no guarantee my card could be activated, because I have no idea if they'll even accept my evidence provided for the purchase, as all it would take is an arbitrary reason for them to NOT accept the card and then boom, I'm out $150 with no recourse. I will NEVER buy or suggest anyone buys a "Vanilla" branded gift card ever again. Do NOT spend your hard earned money with them. Ridiculous.

Then came the grief, because after several calls to Vanilla Gift cards the issue has still not been resolved.
The last attempt happened today, January 16th, 2023. I called. I spent over an hour on the phone with a very nice customer service representative, who ultimately could not help me and it would seem disconnected the call. The gas station close to where I live that sold my card to me they no longer sell Vanilla gift cards. So glad they took my situation seriously.

Received a $400 Vanilla gift card on 7-14-22 (purchased at CVS 7-13-22). Checked the balance on 11-29-22 and it was zero. A series of fraudulent transactions mostly to Public Storage were made from 10-12-22 through 10-20-22. After finally getting through to customer service, they said I need to submit a Dispute Form. To get the Dispute Form, they need to open a Case Number and for this they need my Name, Address, Phone, Email, and DOB. I pushed back against the DOB because frankly I do not trust that this entire gift card thing is fraudulent from the top down.
Since I would not give my DOB they said there was nothing they could do. If I did give my information they said the investigation would likely take 45 to 90 days after receiving the Dispute Form and there was no guarantee that funds would be re-established. My advice: Do Not buy Vanilla Gift Cards as they are rife for abuse and the company does not seem too concerned with correcting issues. If you receive a gift card, use it ASAP before the organized fraud gets the funds.

I purchased a prepaid Vanilla gift card to use online to shop. When I tried to use it I was told there was an issue with card. So I called customer service yesterday. I was told a merchant I had tried it on had a hold on my card. I called merchant, no hold on that card. Today I call customer service. Now they say someone charged on my card across the country. So I ask how is that possible. I am told anyone who has the 16 numbers from outside of card can use it. This doesn't sound right. I wanted to use card to Christmas shop online. But now I am Out $245. I filed a dispute but they claim they take 45 to 90 days to fix issues. I am very disappointed in this company.

I would never purchase a card from this company. Received one as a gift. When I went to use it it was empty. Called the dispute line I filed a claim in March. I was told they would get back with me in 30 to 60 days. Never heard back from them. Called them again. Said they couldn’t find my dispute. Sent them all the information. Now in November I’m told it’s too late for them to find anything.

I don't understand how this company hasn't been sued or shut down yet. I'm out $500 on a prepaid visa. I charged 2 cheapy things to make sure it worked- it did, went to buy a bunch of Christmas gifts with it and it keeps getting declined now, and NOW the system is giving an error. Can't get through to customer service and when you can, they're no help at all. This is TWICE I was given this particular gift card, and the last one, we had to go through the same problem where they required you to send your driver's license and receipt through email to get a new card. Yeah, because someone who got this as a gift WOULD HAVE ALL OF THAT. WTF. SCAM ARTISTS. Someone report them to the **. For the love of saving people from getting ripped off GO REPORT THEM. So, they can be investigated and shut down.

I have been on hold for 2 hours today because the latest dispute was finally corrected but the card I receive today directly from them was $1.00 when I paid $200.00 for the card. There is NO SHAME IN THESE PEOPLE. 4th time scammed and now I am done - too bad they hold the market on gift cards!

My daughter gifted me a $25 Vanilla Visa Gift Card. I used it at JC Penney to buy clothing. I returned the article a few days later. The store clerk refunded the cost which was now on sale for $29 to the gift card. Almost a year later I tried to use the card for another $25 purchase and the card was invalid. I called Vanilla customer service and was told that because JC Penney refunded more than the original value the card was immediately invalidated. Vanilla admits that they know the refund value. They will not refund me unless I present the original receipt from JC Penney which I cannot find after a year. Vanilla is not only stealing the original $25, but an extra $9 they didn't earn as well. They are nothing but common thieves.

I was gifted a $200 Vanilla Visa gift card for my 11/1 birthday. When I got it I went online to see what the balance was and it indicated $200. I’ve tried to use it a few times for charges significantly less than the $200 and it came back as insufficient funds each time. When I call the number on the back of the card, it indicates that there is a $0 balance available on the card. There’s an option when you call to hear what your recent transactions were and when I hit the number for that info, nothing happens. I am not going to let the person who gifted me this card know what’s occurred because Vanilla should make good on the card and I don’t want the gifter to feel obligated to replace it when they’ve already spent $200. Help would be appreciated. Vanilla should be held responsible.

HOW can the USPS and Walgreens sell these scam cards to unsuspecting consumers who see the verified VISA logo and think they are safe? I am out $200 + while this ** company fraudulently operates and steals money. Gifted a Vanilla POS card donation for my public school classroom for supplies for $200. Took my students shopping and the card would not work. Humiliating right? Went home and spent 30 minutes on hold waiting to speak to customer service, only to finally get connected and the rep disconnected call. So it began...
Filled out Vanilla's ** form, heard back after 29 days the card was somehow? Used elsewhere?! Even though I had the card and receipt showing $200 amount and had to activate it myself so how could someone else use it? It was mailed USPS in a priority envelope from the gifter yet debited funds in another state: MICHIGAN, where no one we know works or lives- where they somehow debited all the money from a card meant for needy kids. I mean this is a lot of money- $200 you expect me to just let go?? They said, "Send in all your docs, fill out our bogus forms, and pretended they did investigation." We waited 60!!!! days. No reply, nothing- just now called back AGAIN. Waited 37:33 to speak to a human and he said, "Your case closed -we can't help you." Wish we had read all the reviews here but honestly didn't think this could happen yet here we are. AWFUL company, awful business practices that should NOT carry the VISA logo.

I purchased a card from Best Buy just today, actually. Everything went fine, or so I thought. I stay at home for about 2 hours before deciding to use the card for what I got it for - nothing too fancy, just a 25$ card enough to purchase an item I've held on the backburner for months. Luckily, I managed to get the item, how? Well, I had to create a PayPal account for 1 second because Etsy kept saying my card was 'invalid' or 'incorrect'. That made no sense, I checked the numbers countless times and kept putting it back in, nothing. It gave me the same error.
It worked through PayPal, at least that's what it appeared. I checked my card's balance, boom, 25$ was now 9.97$, it appeared to have worked, I got my product, I was satisfied. Then comes my purchases for the leftover money, purchase was Robux that cost roughly 7$, almost 8$, just enough. Xsolla says gives me an error, I look at "read more" and it says the most common reason is it's not activated, but I've checked the card countless times. It says it's activated and most of the funds are gone. Confused, I look at the transactions, and find the most disgusting thing I've ever seen using a prepaid card.
Lo and behold, in the purchases section it shows 4 pending purchases. 2 from my first purchase, the fee from PayPal and the purchase itself that it clearly showed had gone through. What it says? "PENDING" and then at the end it says "null". I'm confused, this makes no sense to me. My balance is practically gone, yet it says the purchase is still pending? I scroll up and see two more pending purchases, both for the Roblox Xsolla attempts I made that Xsolla said they declined. Excuse me? Those didn't go through, I didn't get my purchase and Xsolla themselves declined it, so why the hell is it in my pending list - TWICE?! I have 2 charges for Xsolla, both 7$, it says the pending amount on the card is 30$ yet every purchase that's pending says 'null'. Implying that not only is it pending, but it's not moving at all, the purchase isn't being made.
I'm afraid I'm going to lose the first purchase I made, so I backed up the files I bought just in case they take back the purchase. This is shady, and absolutely vile of Vanilla Prepaid to do. You may ask, why don't I just contact the company? Read the other reviews, I'm not going to sit for 40-90 days for fraudulent charges just to be hung up and put on hold forever.
NEVER BUY A PREPAID CARD FROM VANILLA PREPAID. IT IS NOT WORTH IT!! I guarantee almost every purchase you make a lot of the cards will have severe errors that completely ruin the purpose of them, whether it be stolen money from bad security, or cards that refuse to work at all despite saying they're activated.
I feel gross that this is considered legal, and this company is considered trustworthy and credible. They're far from it, and these reviews prove that. I'm thankful the funds only ended up being 30$, I'm throwing that card away forever and never touching it again or buying another prepaid from this god awful company until the day I die. I've seen a lot of people say their cards had up to hundreds of dollars, so please, PLEASE check the reviews and credibility of a company before buying something from them that involves money transactions unless you want to go through a headache like I did.

I am absolutely shocked that there have been so many people who have been stolen from, by purchasing these fraudulent Vanilla Visa Gift Cards. I, too, fell victim. My husband and I, over the many years previous, have happily used Vanilla Visa Gift Cards, to use for online purchases, and to gift out for family and friends. BUT this past year, 2022, we began to notice problems with any Vanilla Visa Gift Card we had purchased. The first red flag, the inability to check your balance, whether by phone, or on the website. The phone will respond "we're sorry but your card is invalid". The website says, "System Error, please try again later", but later never comes. And shockingly, when/if a person is able to check their balance, they find that half or all of their balance is GONE, when you haven't even made a purchase yet.
I noticed on one of my gift cards that I'd been allowed to make a few purchases, then, mysteriously was locked out of being able to check my balance, and I knew I had at least $100 left on my balance. So, I called customer service, and got the run around, as others have mentioned. I was told my card was "on hold". I was asked to provide proof of purchase, which I had, and did do. Then, I got another request for me to provide my home address and a copy of my utility bill to verify who I was. So, I submitted a utility bill. Then, was told it would take 40 days or more, and I would receive a replacement card. I was given a case number. On another card that was a gift from my husband to me for our anniversary, again, I'd started making a few purchases, and AGAIN, couldn't check my balance, and AGAIN, they took the last remaining $50 on that card.
The customer service rep had a Middle Eastern accent, and I could hear a baby crying in the background. NEVER AGAIN will myself or any member of my family purchase these fraudulent cards and we have turned them into the Attorney General's Office. These people should be run out of business. Can you imagine the tears of people this Christmas who have either given, or are going to receive these useless cards? My husband was highly upset that an anniversary gift was basically useless after he'd spent his hard earned money to do something nice for me, his wife. This is an outrage.
