Was given a 200.00 card. Put it in the safe and never used it. Pulled it out to use it and had zero balance. The number had been used 2 times at an out of state location. Been trying for weeks to file a claim and all I get is a runaround! Their FAX will never go through no matter what I do. They then had me email it to tell me weeks later they never got it and to call back! My advice never ever buy a card from them!!

I was given a $100 prepaid gift card on 6/10/2019 and opened it at the cash register in the store in front of the employees. They swiped the card and it had $0 balance on it. So I called to check the balance on the card and it said my PIN number had already been set and my balance was $0. I never set a PIN number and had never opened the card until that day. So someone stole my money off the card before it was ever opened.

I called the company customer service and was told to mail in my receipts, driver's license and pictures of the card which I did. I have received 3 emails from the company saying they were working on my case. It is now 7/31/2019 and still no refund or new card. This company is a total SCAM! I will be reporting them to the BBB and posting all over Social Media warning others to never buy one of these cards. I want my money and will stop at nothing until I get a refund. Including filing a court case against them in small claims court! They are nothing but thieves!

I was given a Vanilla gift card that had $50 on it. I spent $20 and was getting ready to spend more when I checked my balance. It was 38 cents. There were two purchases on there that I did not make. I contacted customer service and was given instructions for debating a charge. This was two months ago. I've emailed them at the address they gave about a dozen times and still no word. Needless to say I'm posting everywhere I can. Do not purchase one of these.

After many months of going back and forth, my son finally received a replacement card for the balance that was hacked. And while I appreciate that, I don't understand why it took so long to get the inquiry resolved.

    Original Review: July 16, 2019

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS CARD!! My son received a $100 Vanilla Gift Card for his birthday and all was fine with it until he went to purchase some dinner and the card was declined. I was able to look online and found that a purchase was made without his authorization from PayPal. I called the 1-800 number and spoke with a representative who was helpful and provided me with instructions on how to file a dispute. However, when I called the 1-800 again I was told that the card information was expired/invalid and I was unable to reach anyone to speak with this about. I tried the website but got the same information. Since I can't provide proof of the fraudulent charge, I am unable to file the complaint. The customer service is poor and if I could give zero stars I would.

There is no option to give zero stars, but that's what I would like to give this terrible card. I was given a $100 Vanilla gift card, and tried to use it at a spa, the card was declined so I ended up using my debit card. Later I went out to lunch, the bill was $45, and I tried to use the card, and the waitress could only take $30 from the card. Later in the day, knowing I should have $70 on the card I tried to purchase my daughter a dress. I could only take $4 from the card. Today I checked my balance. Sure enough the card started at $100. The Spa change went through---although the Spa told me the money didn't come to them. All in all a very pathetic card. DO NOT PURCHASE as a gift.

Someone reported my card as lost and now I'm out my $50 and I can't get it back! It was a brand new card so wow was it lost by someone??? The person on the phone was no help and kept repeating that my account was closed. So now the other person has my money.

I had received this Vanilla Prepaid Visa Card as a gift. It was purchased at Walgreens. Since I had the card and did not use it right away, I contacted customer service to find out how to activate my card. The first customer service representative I spoke with told me that the amount on the card of $35 was no longer available because fees were applied each month I did not use it, and the total amount was gone with these fees. I was stunned because I have had other Visa gift cards that have never had fees applied.

When I asked to speak with a supervisor, the representative said that the supervisor would not be able to do anything. I still insisted on waiting to speak with a supervisor. I waited on hold for a while before speaking with “Alexander” the supervisor. He kept telling me that due to the “cardholder” agreement they could do nothing to refund the amount that was on the card. I found that hard to believe, so I asked to speak to his supervisor even when I found out that they were located in Southeast Asia. Most likely in India.

I was told again that the next supervisor would not be able to do anything. I still insisted on speaking to him or her. After a while, “Alexander” (most likely not even his real name) told me that his supervisor was still on a call, could I give him the best number for the supervisor to contact me at, and that I would get a call back. Needless to say it is two days later, and I never got a call back. This seems like theft to me and a big scam. I HIGHLY recommend that NO ONE purchase this card!!!!

Purchased a $250.00 gift card from Walgreens for my son's upcoming birthday. Purchased on 06/27/2019. Son's birthday is 07/03/2019 so we decided to use it on that special day for him and placed an order at Amazon.com. Got an email from Amazon the card was declined. Then we called the Vanilla company to find out what's going on. We were told the card has a zero balance and was used to purchase Delta airline tickets. I explained, "We just tried to use it for the first time. How can this happen?" They said, "We need all your information so we can send you an email which will contain a form to fill out for fraud in order to get money back." They also state, "You will get an email in 24 hours." At that point I made them read back my email to verify they have a correct email address.

After 2 days pass still no email. Yes the mail was not blocked by my provider and yes checked all spam very carefully nothing. I call back the 3rd day they said, "Sorry it looks like they wrote down wrong email." Once again verified email they repeat it back correct. Waited again another 24 hours. Wait 2 days still no email. Call again. They are laughing at me on the phone. I can hear them all in the background saying, "Cool we got another one here." What is that supposed to mean? Once again this time they said, "We will have to re-send it." I asked what email they have. They repeat the wrong email. Once again I clarify the correct one and have them verify it. Waited. Still don't have a claim form sent to me.

After days of research I find I am not alone. Thousands are in the same boat. So after all this time this company is still selling these cards they know are already used or hacked. I was sold a used or hacked card. Who knows if this company is even legit. Now after giving them all my information they asked for I have been stuck with multiple problems. I never got a claim form as of yet and now it looks like they used and sold my information they asked me for in order to file a claim form I still don't have. Since I gave them my information I am being called and emailed with tons of spam robocalls etc... I want my money back and I want it now. Please stay far far away from this bogus company. You are better off giving cash to a loved one as a present.

Vanilla Manila said I can dispute the fraudulent transactions but it would take up to 90 days. So whoever used my card online at 9:42 pm ((which is bs because I had my card with me the entire day in my wallet)) and bought something from Color Pop in CA can say, "Oh it’s valid." and get away with it.

Lesson learned! Had I known all the fees associated with this card I would of never purchased. The main purpose is to have the ability to buy online or make transactions where you can’t use cash. The loading fee is reasonable but every time you swipe the card it charges you .95 cent. I was not aware of the fee until I saw and called the customer service and listened to the fees associated with the card. Once my balance is gone I will not be using this card again.

I went to Walmart in my area the next day (less than 12 hours later) and attempted to purchase items for a client and was told that there was only $6.85 on the card. I immediately called customer service and was advised that there was an online purchase at Nordstrom that could not be challenged unless a dispute was made. This charge was NOT authorized and was not done by myself or anyone associated with my program. My mom thought it would be nice to get me a $75.00 prepaid Vanilla Visa card for my bday. I went to use it at my hair salon and it kept coming up declined! Finally we tied $60.00 and it worked. I called right away and explained what happened. This is what I was told. They hold back 20% just in case there isn’t enough money on the card!! Why wouldn’t there be as that’s what you load the card for. So now I have a balance of $15.00. Tried using it a few days later, declined AGAIN.

Called and they said the same thing. There’s another 20% hold on the remaining $15.00, I was livid. I called Visa themselves to let them know who they are affiliated with and they just referred me to the number on the back of the prepaid card. I think they want people just to get so frustrated and leave the remaining balance which then they pocket. I’ve never had this trouble with other prepaid cards. Please if you read this and are thinking of getting a Vanilla prepaid card, DON’T... I now am switching my real Visa credit card to a M/C.. I’m done with Visa!!!!

Rechecked my account because I don't trust them & there was $9 missing from my account even though I didn't have any pending transactions. Each purchase I make there's miscellaneous money missing without my authorization & it doesn't appear in my card activity. Kind of fishy. Btw why do they need our social security number for a something so little like a gift card... Made me wonder with suspicion so I checked www.myvanillaaccount website's security patch & it said the site isn't secure. Bingo! THEY ARE SCAMS SO YOU GUYS PLEASE STAY AWAY! My son received a Vanilla Visa gift card for Christmas 2018. We opened the card in May 2019 to make a purchase and it didn't work. Looked on the Vanilla website and it had a balance of zero. Called Amazon where a purchase using the card took place 2 months prior and they had flagged the Amazon gift card purchase with the Vanilla Visa gift card. Called Vanilla a series of times which culminated in sending me an email to fill out a written dispute which would result in an answer within the next NINETY days.

After 10 days, I never received the email in my inboxes or spam so I called back this morning. They said it would take up to 10 days to receive another email. I spoke with a supervisor (Lee) stating if he could not rectify the issue today with me, that I would let my troubles be known. He could not rectify it. Vanilla Visa gift cards needs better safeguards to prevent fraud against their card users. How did someone get the information when PACKAGED? It obviously leaked out due to their negligence. Second, the recovery process for their victims of fraud is arduous and needs to be revised.

My parents got me a Prepaid Vanilla VISA Gift card for $150 last Aug. (2018). As it's expiration date on card said 7/26, I left the card in secured place until last week I opened the sealed card package. When I dialed in to check the balance, the automated message said the card is now expired. When I spoke to agent, he said it is not expired but it was never activated. In order to initiate the inquiry, I need to present the receipt of the store where it was activated. I strongly believe that this card has some mechanism where it has a logic set to reset the card if not used for certain timeframe. As the probability to someone secure the receipt for a year is really low. This is a rude awakening for me as for years it used to be my common mentos to offer others as gifts for various occasion. Never going to use this product in future. I am better off giving personal check or cash.

They refused to fix the card after stating it's how they help the government prevent funding of terrorists. I told them if that were true then they would have required that info before accepting money. Just like a bank does before putting money into a new account. I then called on Dec 27, 2018 and I asked for a refund (minus the $6.50 activation fee I paid at the time).

I was told that the card was placed on hold and the refund would be a cheque for $150.00 sent back to me in the mail. I asked for the card then to be re-activated.

I was also told that if you try to use the card in restaurants they automatically hold back 20%, so on a $150.00 card you cannot use more than $125.00 or it will be declined. Then days later (no specifics) you would be able to use the other $25.00, but I did not get a straight answer if another 20% would be held back on the $25.00 balance as well! I tell her I’m thinking why is this important when my card isn’t registered in nobody name. Only my zip code is associated with my card so the agent is going back and forth with me telling me I can’t use any name I want for my card. I’m like, "Excuse me. You're not my mother. I can use any name I like. It’s my card and plus I haven’t even registered my card in nobody name" so the agent gets mad put me on hold. Never came back to the phone. Oh but before she put me on hold she’s like, "I’m going to put a block on your card" with a lot of attitude In her tone. Basically she retaliated because I told her she can’t tell me what name to use.

I talked to her supervisor and told her about her about her unprofessional co worker, how she went back and forth with me about what name I can use for my card but the supervisor didn’t seem too concerned. I also told her to listen to the recording. "It will back everything up," I’ve said to her and in law retaliation is a crime. The agent I spoke to was out of line and she cut my card off so now I have to wait just so someone can look at my receipt ID, etc. I sent showing I own my card. This is ridiculous. Don’t buy this card but if you do buy this card make sure you save your receipt.

My husband bought me a card as a gift - so he paid 54$ for a 50$ gift card. Tried to use it at a restaurant; the server came back and said, "Sorry, your card didn't work." I called the number on the card, confirmed it was registered and the total amount. I assured the waitress it was good to use. She came back and informed me it only went through for 41$, we still owed 9$. I paid the difference in cash and left, acutely embarrassed that it looked like we were trying to short change the restaurant. I called and the automated system said there was now only 80 cents left on the card!

I waited for a real customer service rep. She informed me they "hold 20% in case of a tip," and the remainder would come back to the card on the 8th of the month - 14 days away. THEN I would have the pleasure of using the balance by checking out, paying with cash or check until the bill was 9$, then complete the purchase with this card. So - If you want to pay extra money to be embarrassed and inconvenienced - this card is for you. Otherwise - a check or money order is better.

Apparently they could not verify that I made the purchase using the same card, when it is clear as day on my statement! They had me send copies of receipts which I have done and have done nothing about the time and other inconvenience they have caused me. They should have had the decency to alert me rather than me finding out the hard way. I think it's time to go back to the Real banks where I know my money is safer and I don't get charged all those ridiculous fees for every transaction I do! Merchants don't like that but Vanilla doesn't care. Don't buy Vanilla cards. You will lose money which is what Vanilla is hoping.

I was convinced to buy the card by a manager at the local CVS pharmacy who told me this was a reputable and popular company for gift cards and they explained this would be the best way to send funds out of state to them for purchases since it was safe to send through the mail. When they attempted to use the card there were three fraudulent charges to Amazon, Google and company named IOS APP STORE and all but $0.14 was used from the card. CVS has done nothing to assist with the issue, I had an incident opened and after 2 months they mentioned I need to call the Vanilla gift card company.

When contacting them they first mentioned a 45 day period before they would be able to refund, after 2 months went by when contacting them back they now say 90 additional days required to dispute the charges. This is a terrible company, don't make the same mistake I did for purchasing this in trust that this was a reputable company. I will also not be shopping at CVS any longer for selling these cards and having managers promote them as a good option to send money through the mail. (If you do not sign the letter, your claim will be denied for this and a dozen other stupid reasons.). You must fill out a number of forms and information blocks. She said this over and over again in an obvious attempt to convince me not file a claim. She never received it. On October 22nd, I called the Vanilla Card customer service number and was advised to email them proof of my purchase of the gift card and proof of my identify (utility bill), which I did. Here's a recap of the ABSOLUTE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE, OR LACK THEREOF, IN HISTORY:

On October 31, 2018, I called them again to get status of replacement card. Was told it was being processed and a replacement card would be mailed in 7-14 business days. They also stated the original card had never been activated. On November 21, 2018, I called them again to find out what happened to the replacement card. "Jessica" informed me the replacement card had been mailed on October 24th, but since I had not received it, they would mail me another one in 7-14 business day. She also informed me that the original card had never been activated. On December 11, 2018, I called them AGAIN and was told by "Courtney" that the second replacement card had been mailed on November 21st. She said if I did not receive it within a few days to call her back. I was in the middle of Christmas and moving to a new home, and forgot to call back until Jan. 31, 2019.

On January 31, 2019, I called them AGAIN to tell them I had never received a replacement card. I was told by "Clece" that no replacement card had ever been issued and she wasn't sure why I had been told that by "Jessica" and "Courtney". I was dumbfounded. Clece assured me they would send me another card in 7-14 business days. I told her I had a new address and she stated that they would not be able to send the replacement card to our new address; they could only send it to the original address. I asked to speak to her supervisor. After being on hold for quite some time, Clece came back on the line and said she spoke to her supervisor who said they would mail the replacement card to my new address.

Today, February 11, 2019, I finally received a replacement gift card in the mail. I went online to activate it, and guess what? It has a balance of $1.24. Apparently, the original card was stolen by someone in Austin, Texas, and used to make several purchases, including two INMATE Video Calls! Unbelievable. I called the lovely Vanilla Gift Card customer service people again. This time I was told that the original card was activated when I first purchased it on October 16, 2018, and that there is nothing I can do if someone stole it and used it. This is a complete contradiction of everything every one of their representatives told me on the phone EVERY TIME I called. Each one of them said it had never been activated.

The person today "Angela" said I could file a dispute and it would take approximately 90 days for them to review it and make a decision. My advice to anyone thinking of purchasing a Vanilla Visa Gift Card and mailing it to someone, don't do it! In my case, they did not stand behind their promise of replacing it if it is lost or stolen. I think their strategy is to wear you down with continuous phone calls until you give up!!! I advised that the small print was so small that I could not read it and was told they would not thing the fees. I asked to be put through to a supervisor and the guy with an American accent hung up on me. This is disgraceful. I have never known of a gift card reducing in value from service fees being taken out. And you have to pay $5 for the pleasure of buying the card. What a way to treat a senior citizen.

As I said I would do, on my review dated 28 Jan 2019 here is an update. After many hours of discussions & e-mails to the Fraud Dept. Vanilla has re-issued me with a new 100.00 prepaid card. I would recommend, if you have issues, to stay persistent and respond as best as you can to their requests. Although it may seem never ending, a satisfactory result can be achieved. I have activated my new card, and it appears to be approved. Note: I haven't actually used it yet, but it should be fine, if not, will advise.

    Original Review: Jan. 28, 2019

Purchase a 100.00 dollar gift card for daughter for Christmas from Walmart Canada. Daughter went to use the card and it declined. Contacted Vanilla Fraud Dept and advised them to search balance on card number. Vanilla reported there was no balance and card not valid. They requested a photocopy of card with all card numbers, plus my DOB & mailing address & receipt which I promptly submitted. Said it would take 7 to 10 business days to complete investigation. Going on 3 weeks, still no resolution.

After reading all the negative reviews, I am beginning to believe this company has a lot of internal problems. I just sent my last correspondence to them, I doubt that there will be any progress made as they have their hands full with never ending complaints. I will give them 2 more days to rectify this issue, then contact Mastercard Head Office in Toronto. I would think Mastercard might have an opinion, considering this company is using the Mastercard Brand. Will update.

They said if you use the card for a service such as haircut, spa, doctor, etc. there is a 20% additional fee by Vanilla. I said, "There is nothing on the card or accompanied literature stating this." Do not purchase one of these. I have bought dozens of Vanilla Visa gift cards over the last several years. I send them to my kids who live out of state for birthdays and special occasions. I have bought them in increments of $100 to $500. I never had a problem until November 11, 2018. I purchased a $100 Vanilla Visa gift card and mailed it to my daughter. The card was lost in the mail. I called customer service on Nov. 11 to inform them. They looked up the card via the serial number that I had on my proof of purchase receipt.

They told me the card had not been used and therefore they would issue a replacement card. They said I needed to send them the proof of purchase along with a current copy of my vehicle registration to prove my name and address were accurate. I was told I would hear back from someone within 2 business days. I never heard back. I called 8 days later and was told that a replacement was not issued because my vehicle registration was more than 6 months old (who's isn't?).

I was told I needed to send a copy of a utility bill and wait another 3-5 business days to hear back. I sent the copy, and again, never heard back. I called again on Nov 28th, and was assured they received the proof they needed and that a new card had been sent. On December 11th, I still had not gotten the card. I called again and was told they were not sure what was happening but that they were sending a card immediately and having the process expedited but I should have the replacement in 7 to 10 days.

By December 29th, I still had not received the card. I called, YET AGAIN to be told that they didn't know why I had not gotten the card and that they were voiding the one they sent and issuing a new one that should get to me within 7 to 10 days... (again). On Jan 7th the card finally came in the mail. I attempted to activate it via their website and it did not activate. I instead tried to call and no luck with activating the card.

I called customer service again and was told that their systems were down and that is why the card would not activate. I was told to call back within a few hours and the issue would be resolved. I called back, entered the info and was given confirmation of activation via the recorded message. The following day, I took my daughter for a pedicure and attempted to use the card. IT WAS DECLINED!!! I called again (Jan. 8th) and was told that because their system was having issues, my card balance was showing as zero.

I was assured it would be completely resolved in 24-48 hours. Today is JANUARY 11, 2019. Two full months later and Vanilla Visa still has $100 of my money and I have nothing to show for it but an invalid gift card with a zero balance and more empty promises from another phone call today. This is ridiculous. I have spent far too much of my time having to call this company to try and get what I paid for. I have spoken with at least 5 supervisors and no one has gotten anything accomplished. They say they can't communicate directly with the card issuer so they have been sending emails. They said I cannot call or talk directly to the card issuer either. I don't understand how a company can get away with stealing people's money like this. I will never do business with them again and suggest you don't either.

My husband has received a few Vanilla VISA gift cards from his boss over the past couple of years at Christmas time. We don't seem to have any difficulty using the cards (which are usually $100.00) for an initial purchase but heaven forbid you leave a balance. We have 2 cards with a bit over $30.00 on them, another 2 with just a couple of dollars. We know the exact amounts left on the cards and have attempted to use them at hair salon, restaurant, liquor store and Walmart (that I can recall). NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW HOW TO USE THESE CARDS AND USE THE REMAINING BALANCE!!!!

I get so frustrated - and I am starting to believe this is going to be throwing money away and VANILLA bank or whatever the heck it is, just keeps all the leftover money because it appears to be impossible to process leftover balances in any type of retail situation. I would suggest never giving out VISA gift cards of any kind and if you do receive one, ensure you use the total balance on first use!!!

I was given a OneVanilla gift card for $300. The card was in a sealed package so nothing on the card could be seen. I registered the card with OneVanilla putting all the information on their database - card #, expiration date and security code. I had the card for 1 week and used it at the supermarket where expiration date and security code is not given. When I went online a week later my card only had a 12 cent balance. Someone used my card to purchase something at Nordstrom for a $203 purchase. The store is in California and I am in Delaware. I did not make this purchase. The only place anyone could have gotten card information is from the OneVanilla database.

I've have been going around in circles with this company for 2 weeks. They kept saying I was to receive an email pack to process the information even though they opened a case number. I talked to 3 of their reps and was told they emailed the package to me - I never received it. I now sent them the information again in an attachment. I was supposed to receive an automated email saying they received my information - so far no email. I don't know where this is to go but my advice to everyone is DO NOT PURCHASE ANY TYPE OF CARD FROM THIS COMPANY. Either their database has been hacked and they do not want to admit it or they have internal people stealing card information and making purchases. You would think there would be someone for me to talk to to get this resolved. DO NOT BUY THEIR CARDS.

Just as someone else described, I selected this option over others because believed it lended more flexibility. It did not. Major retailers have declined me over the phone (Target) and local small businesses in person. In addition, it is unusable online if the order amount exceeds the ecard amount since you must process it as a credit/debit card. There are issues all around with this product. I notified a Vanilla Customer Support Representative because we have three of these eRewards and all she told me was she was sorry and that she hopes more merchants accept it in the future.

In essence, we were "stuck" with them and hoped to be able to use them. Extremely frustrated and disappointed. The solution we found was to go online and find a merchant who would allow us to purchase a store brand gift card with the prepaid card for the exact amount of the available balance. We have also loaded one to PayPal. In this case, I do worry, however, that when funds fall below the full amount of your purchase, the order will kick out and cancel leaving small amounts of unusable money on the ecard.

I was given a $100 Vanilla Gift card from my dad for my birthday. Within a week of receiving it, someone from FL (I live in TX) stole the info and used it to pay their utility bill, but I didn't know about it until a couple of months later because I hadn't used it yet. Once I figured out it was stolen I immediately called and tried disputing it. For some reason I wasn't receiving the form and after 2 months I FINALLY received it. About 2 weeks later I received a letter in the mail saying that there was nothing they could do because I didn't file the dispute within 2 months of it being stolen, even though I didn't know it was stolen until after. Everyone I talked to was super sweet and helpful except the supervisor. She was rude and could care less that my dad’s hard earned money was stolen and just kept saying they weren't going to help me. DO NOT PURCHASE THEIR CARDS!!!

I received a Vanilla Prepaid Card for a significant amount of money as a reward from my employer's wellness program. I selected the Vanilla card over a store-specific gift card because I thought I would have more flexibility with where to use it. I was wrong. I tried to use it at several different retailers both over the phone and online and was declined multiple times. When I called Vanilla customer support to inquire why the card was being declined she said that those specific retailers block their card and gave me no remedy for actually using the card. I finally realized it could be loaded onto my Paypal account. I haven't tried using it this way yet but I don't have high hopes. At this point I feel like this card is as good as Monopoly money.

I wanted to share my experience with everyone here. I started buying cards several years ago from this company and I have never had problems with the cards. If you're getting a card by mail you will need to provide them with an SSN which is required by law. I never have to give any information to setup my cards because I buy the Vanilla Gift Master Cards or known has One Vanilla Gift Card which you don't need to activate. There's several types of cards you can get on the market. Vanilla Gift Cards or One Vanilla Gift Cards you will not need to setup with any information. Cards by mail, you will need to provide information such as ID, SSN and Address.

My experience from this company? I love it! I never had problems with the card company other than a 1 hour wait for the card to fully activate. You see other people here complaining about their cards. You should always treat your cards like cash and keep them inside your wallet. That's the problem that they're facing. Someone had spent the money on their cards or used an unsecured website to look at there balance. That's their fault. I have never had a problem and never had to call customer service for any problems. INCOMM just does not take your funds and they don't charge a monthly fee. Once your funds are loaded you keep your funds until you spend those funds.

The cashier opened my "GIFT CARD VANILLA" but I could not pay with it because the transaction was declined. To check if I had done well, I returned home and checked the website of Vanilla Gift; Also call the consumer attention line to listen to the instructions. On September 15 I returned to the same Marshall store, to try to pay with that card and again the transaction was declined.

There should be a way in the company so that representatives can give a satisfactory service to consumers that is not this!!!! My perception of what has happened is that it is the VANILLA VISA card GIFT CARD is a SCAM.

For me it does not make any sense to try to call back the person who gave the gift to know if he still keeps the receipt of purchase of the card, much less to ask him to go to the establishment where the purchase was made to obtain a copy of the receipt of said purchase. HAS NO SENSE. The representatives were professionals but what makes no sense is that the company puts them to provide such a poor service! DO NOT BUY CARDS "VANILLA VISA GIFT CARD".

It just kept getting declined. I even called the merchant and they tried to run the card on their end but it was declined by the bank (Vanilla Visa). So, unless the card's balance is same or higher than the purchase total you can't use the card. Or you have to ask a merchant to split the amount and charge exact balance amount first and then pay the rest with cash or other card. No online retailer offers that option. Not very convenient. I wonder how many people just get frustrated and leave the few bucks on the card unspent. It's a great deal for the bank as it all adds up I'm sure.

There is a waiting period, not sure exactly how long I've been told so many stories, before they release the rest of the money. Absolutely stupid rules. If you have a $50 gift card you should be able to use $50, no matter where you use it. It should not give you any more than $50 credit, period. They said we have to wait 45 days to get this resolved and they couldn't stop the pending transaction. So then I asked him if we could fill out a dispute form and he said. How does this make sense if the products are not paid for on Amazon and they don't get it? So why let people get something when it's not their money. Needless to say none people that we talk to or any help they have none of our information. They're not even planning on doing anything for the situation. I called customer service and found out that they put a Restriction on my card. I would have NEVER even know if I had not called in to customer service. They said I needed to send in identity verification and don't you think that I somehow should have been notified of that information. I emailed the requested information to email address they provided and did receive an automated email response that the information was received!

Called back today and they act like they have no idea what I am talking about, and that they did not receive the information and would have to resend it! I AM TOTALLY BEYOND PISSED!!! I submitted drafts for mortgage and car payments that now probably did not even go through because I did not know card was restricted, and cannot even buy groceries for my kids when my account shows over $3000 from my Payroll was deposited!!! My husband and I received a $100 Vanilla gift card for Christmas in 2014. Reading the back of the card there is no indication that they will take out a certain sum each month. We assumed there was no rush to use it. The expiration is 06/22. Tried using it today to discover that only $32 is left on it simply because they kept taking monthly fees out. This is ridiculous and outrageous! My poor mother in law thought she was being kind by giving us this card instead she was ripped off. Why is this even legal?

PLEASE SHARE THIS, everyone should know so they can protect themselves from the VISA prepaid card scam! We had bought two Visa prepaid cards to use online and BOTH turned out to be frauds. Somehow (don't ask me how) these scammers switch out the real card for one that looks real and when YOU buy it, bang they have a card worth money and you are left with headaches and frustration. They can go to the website and check if the card is active, they don't have to sign up or anything just put in the numbers and they will see its active and that's when they use it. Thankfully the amazing staff at Shoppers could help us and we did not lose money but what a week long runaround nightmare (not Shoppers’ fault, they were great). The prepaid visa people you call through the 1 800 number on the card were absolutely USELESS and I would have been out the money if not for the Shoppers Drug Mart staff.

The cards are not even owned by Visa, it's a third-party vendor. So don't think you are doing business with Visa, you're not. Here is my story: My wife bought a $150 dollar Visa prepaid card at the Blackburn location March 16th so we could shop online as I need a new video card for my TV. I work long hours and as a result the card sat on my desk until I could get to placing the order online. Saturday March 17th rolled around and when I tried to use the card it turned out not to be activated. The company asked me to send them a picture of the front, back and receipt for the card and they will activate it within 3 business days. I still had some other online shopping to do so I decided we would get a new card in the meantime valued at 200 so I could both register my son for Algonquin online and buy my TV video card. We were already at St-Laurent Shopping Center so we went to that Shoppers Drug Mart.

When I got home there seemed to be an issue with the card and after calling the toll free number I was told to return to the store. As I am sure you can well imagine I was very frustrated and slightly enraged at this point and went right back to the store. People buy these things for convenience and this was anything but convenient. When I arrived at the store I spoke with the manager. She looked at the card and said she thinks it’s a fraud card. She explained that they have had trouble in the past and will do her best to help me and my wife. After about 40 minutes of her being on the phone in a back room she returned to us with a new $200 card that was activated etc. I have not had any trouble with that card and have since used it to register my son at college. On Tuesday I had still not received a reply about the $150 dollar card we had bought in Blackburn so I called the 1 800 number again and big surprise, I had to go to the store.

Upon arriving at the store on Wed. March 21, I was taken care of by that manager. After we both received the “runaround, please hold” game for over an hour, he was kind enough to give me my $150 back in cash and said that he will be taking this matter to the fraud dept as there is discrepancies in the numbers and that this may be a fraud issue (just my luck at this point). I would like to say a HUGE thank you to the Shoppers Drug Mart staff because they truly showed me that the customer matters at Shoppers Drug Mart and customer care is #1.

Bravo to these two individuals that took horrible situations and through their considerable efforts resolved the issues to my satisfaction. They have assured my families continued patronage. I would like to take a moment and say that I will NEVER EVER EVER EVER buy one of those cards again as long as I live and they WILL be receiving scathing reviews everywhere I can post them and across social media with my story. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Now hit share and save someone else a HUGE headache.

I got a Reloadable Vanilla debit MasterCard card at my dollar store. I looked at it and it says nowhere that I had to be to buy it or anything. So I put the $120 without anything wrong. The cashier did not say anything about it either. She did not say anything about being 18 to buy it or use it. So I go online to register it and it says my birthday and I place it in. Then under it it said that I needed my Social Security. Now I’m thinking something off. And then it says you got to be 18. Now they locked my card with my 120$. Not theirs. Mine.

And now I got to go through a whole lot of garbage because my brother trying to help me also made it more harder. Now I have to get my brother who works mornings to get here and help figure it out. (DO NOT BUY THIS CARD.) It’s a scam for them to take underage people's money. Never buying from MyVanilla again. It also stated it was free to do a balance inquiry online to keep the dormancy fee from applying to your account. Well I can't log in to my online account because it says my password is incorrect! Now, there is an upfront fee of £2.95, which we thought was OK for the service and as I now had two of these cards, I thought I would spend them. I had two purchases in excess of £18, so I put them on the two separate cards. Last year’s card was refused. I checked their website and found that they take your money, £2 a month, if you have not spent it after the first seven months. Apparently I had £15 left on this card. I therefore ask, how can it possibly have an expiry date of 2021, this is an absolute lie, as it would notionally expire this year!

I received a Vanilla Visa Gift Card for my birthday, 11/2017. I did not open the card until 2/2018. I attempted to use the card for a store purchase. The purchase was denied. I then attempted to use the card for an online purchase. The card was denied. Then I started my research. Why so many Vanilla Sky websites? Used a different website which gave directions on how to access Vanilla Sky and set up an account and pin number. Finally got an account set up and immediately checked "balance." This indicated that I had "0" funds left on a $50.00 gift card and even gave the stores, dates, purchases and purchase amounts. How is it possible to have a Vanilla Visa Gift Card which is tightly sealed in its packaging, brand new, and yet all the funds on the card were already used??

When I telephoned the phone number printed on the back of the card and explained the situation to the customer service representative, she said she was sorry and did not know how that could happen. I could file a dispute. In anger I hung up. Further research let me to the Better Business Bureau and Consumer Affairs. BBB had something like 586 negative reviews - most with the same story as mine. Yet BBB gave Vanilla Sky an A+ rating. Then I investigated InComm which is how I ended up on Consumer Affairs. After a few days I called again customer service for Vanilla Sky, deciding to start a dispute about the card. I am still waiting, after a week, for the paperwork. Some research into InComm showed that there was an issue with Vanilla Sky visa cards - cards currency had already been used when the gifted card holder had never used the card. I would like to find a solution to this issue.

I made a purchase on a disposable Visa gift card. When I went to use the card, the first purchase went through. The second purchase I made went through, but then overdrafted my account 32.65... which locked me out of my Apple account. I went ahead and made the purchase to reactivate my Apple account. I have been closely working with an Apple representative to get my refund back. I called in a month ago... and the supervisor I spoke to told me that there was nothing on their end. Let alone the customer service is atrocious... half the time they don’t know what they are doing or try and control the situation saying they could do what supervisors do.

So I made a ticket number 2 days ago... so that’s the only one that they were able to reference. I find it hard to believe that once their information is updated with prospective clients, that they would remove such information. As well as not having phone records or notes... to indicate that you have called in. (If there was a legal problem, they would have that information). I did everything I could to get my refund back... they instructed me to go back to CVS to track down a cash purchase. Where the place I go, nobody wants to do their job and are too busy to care about your concerns. As well as Visa Vanilla gift cards.

I just got done telling them, I went through the vendor, through the App Store now them... then they tell me to contact the vendor again... thus creating another string of hoops to go through to get my 32.65 back. But they’d love to give me a purchase, but don’t have records of me calling in. When I called a month ago, I left my name, address and phone number, zip code... and the purchase must be made through Apple. I was overdrafted by Visa. They are the financial institute that handles the money in the card for purchasing. So they are the one that overdrafted me, told me to pay the required amount to access my Apple account and finally I was credit for the mishap. Now they have no records of me calling... time frame of this happening in a month span time. So that is 32.65 I will never see again. Visa won and now has my money. Bunch of thieves.

Visa gift cards are great because you can use them just about anywhere (except online... Amazon for etc). They won't accept it. However; the biggest issue is the service fees they charge. I was aware of them. No service fees for the 1st year once the card is activated. What they don't tell you is the card is activated once it is purchase, not the first time you use it. So after one year of activation, they will charge you $3.00/mo for service fees whether you use the card or not. They also charge a fee for when you buy the card. The fee depends on how much the card is worth. Like a normal Visa, there is also an expiry date. I would steer anyone from buying the Visa or MasterCard as gift cards. I'm sure they have similar policies. Instead buy gift cards for the retail stores you plan to spend it. I would suspect most of those don't have the same conditions where they penalize you for not spending the card quickly or right away. Good luck.

I went to their website to see if I can do it online but there was no button to edit his zip code. I then called the number on the back of the card to do it over the phone. So I bought this card from my local Wal-Mart after reading the back of the card. Seeing as there is no monthly fees, I purchased it and put my entire paycheck on it except $20. I only bought a prepaid card to use till I'm able to have direct deposits. Considering I work night shift, I'm not up at 9 am-4 pm to deposit it into my bank account. I go online to register, the system says the pin I entered was wrong when they didn't even ask for a PIN. So I called them to set it up. The woman on the phone couldn't hear a thing I was saying. She blamed my accent for this which I found slightly rude of her to make it seem as though it was my fault that she couldn't hear. I get off of work and go to put gas in my truck, the cashier (whom I knew) said that the card had been reported stolen. Strike 1.

Next night I call back & I get a hold of a man whom mixed his English with another language so I just apologized to him for not understanding and asked if I could speak to somebody else. He said yes and put me on hold for about 10 minutes, no waiting music or ringing or anything. Just silence, then hung up on me. I tried to call back and which this time it asked me to enter a PIN. Obviously I typed the last 4 digits on the card and it rejected it multiple times. Their website doesn't provide an email so other than writing a letter, there was no way for me to get in contact with them about the card. So about a week later I had my friend go buy the exact same card and I had to use her card number to bypass the PIN option to talk to another person. Turns out the first woman never even registered my card so when I swiped it, it was reported stolen.

The woman that helped activate my card suggested that I listen to the rules of the card, there is no monthly fee correct but only while you're using the card that came from the package not once you get the personalized one & there is a fee every 90 days, plus $4.50 to pull the money off the card, & 3.50 for every purchase. Then if you use the cash back option at a cash register it will charge you a whopping $8.00. You can't get the money off until you receive a personalized card in the mail as well. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS CARD.

Called back to find out there was no higher supervisors. Lied too more. After telling another supervisor the discontent we were feeling, he told us we couldnt even ask about the reason the cards could not be used because they were gifted to us by our parents as Christmas presents. One problem was the fact that the cards had an exp date of 6/26. The system showed my exact same card having a 2027 exp date on file with the company. Csr said that the ccv numbers were not the same in the systems as what's on the card. No one could help us make our purchase.

Each having a value of 100$ each. Csr's and supervisors took no responsibility for any issues we were having. Not the card, not the humiliation at the store, not the lies or poor rapport of the customer service representatives. We were told new lies every time we called customer service, forcing my husband and I to keep calling back to figure out what was wrong with our cards. However, since I purchased too many cards, I decided to used the remainder for myself. I attempted to used one of the gift cards valued at $100 to which it was denied twice in the same transaction. This is when I learned that you must activate the card before use. Why buy a sealed gift card to which supposedly no one else can access just to activate it? If it's sealed it should be ready for use upon breaking the packaging. I tried to call and activate the card with the number on the card would not go through their automated system. I had to speak with customer service.

The phone call went like this. I called, told them I could not activate the card, they told me they did not have record of that card number and to send (e-mail) them all documentation related to that purchase (copy of receipt, ID and the gift card front and back). After doing all that, I received an e-mail telling me that I also needed to get a copy of ALL the gift cards I brought within that transaction and an electronic journal from the store location.

The store will not give me an electronic journal because I have a receipt. They are gift cards to which I have distributed as gifts!! I no longer have access to these items. So now I await for hopefully a refund of my money spent on this gift card. My advice to anyone purchasing or wanting to purchase a Vanilla Visa/MasterCard Gift Card - Don't do it!! Just don't do it!! You are better off purchasing a store gift card or some other gift card like America Express where it's guaranteed. I WILL NEVER EVER SPEND MY MONEY ON VANILLA ANYTHING!!!

So now, my mother has given Walmart and this company money and we have absolutely nothing to show for it. I would recommend not giving these as gifts in case something like this should happen to you. If I could give less than one star I would. Very unhappy.

With children scattered around the country, we’ve typically used Vanilla Visa cards for Christmas gifts. Thinking, apparently wrongly, that if anything happened and the card was lost or stolen, that it could be canceled, a stop spending issued or at least tracked to see if it had been used by someone else. In Key West, we are still recovering from Hurricane Irma. This year, funds are tight with all of our money going toward rebuilding our home and replacing lost vehicles etc. Even so, we managed to purchase our three sons and their families gift cards for Christmas in the amount of $500.00 each.

One of our son’s cards was stolen. We went to the Vanilla Visa website to find out what to do. The instructions were to call customer service “IMMEDIATELY”. So we did. We were told that the receipt that we had with the last four numbers on there was not enough for her to track the card number to see if it had been used or to stop or cancel it. That it was like “anonymously purchasing cash” and that there is nothing that they could do. Nothing! Now we’ve had to send the other son and his family another $500.00, that we really don’t have and I guess someone else is having a great Christmas on us.

After thinking that this is such B.S. and that if it happened to us, it had to have happened to others, so I proceeded to do some research that led me here, where I should have started, before flushing $500.00 down the toilet. A very expensive lesson learned but we will NEVER purchase these cards again and will make sure that our friends and family do not either.

Customer service did nothing to help and said I should have known about the fees. There should be a class-action lawsuit brought to this company to give back some or all the money that they stole from everyone. We bought FIVE $500 Vanilla VISA gift cards, and five smaller gift cards to buy presents for the families. ALL OF THEM WERE STOLEN. They were purchased on 12/14 and by 12/18 someone used all of the money on the cards. Even though these cards were in a sealed package, so nobody could see the numbers. This company is not going to do anything for us, even though we have proof of purchase. They said they cannot do anything for at least 90 days, which I assume means nothing. This breaks my heart... I bought 3 MyVanilla cards so that my two nephews could go on a school trip to California and I could transfer money from the card I bought for myself to their cards while they are away. What I didn't know (but according to the customer service person is in the EULA) is that you can't transfer money from one "starter" card to the other. She said it was my fault for not reading the EULA. Oh wait, it is located INSIDE the package so no way of knowing that until after I had purchased the three cards and put $200 on their cards and $400 on mine. So, since I couldn't use my card to transfer money to theirs, I requested a refund. I was told that I would have to supply them with a copy of the receipt, my driver's license, social security card and proof of address AND pay a $10 fee. All to get MY money sent to me. I told them thanks but no thanks. I decided to go to an ATM and withdraw my money.

Guess what when I tried to use it the card was declined. I called MyVanilla cards' not so helpful customer service who told me that my card had been restricted and would remain so until I sent in the required documentation. They couldn't tell me what it was restricted for, just that it was "suspicious activity." What is "suspicious" about wanting to get my money back. I am currently waiting for a supervisor to get in touch with InCOMM, the company behind the card, to see why the account is restricted and what they can do to get my money to me, since I have no intention of sending them my SS card. My mom had sent me $200 because I left the majority of my stuff at home and she was too lazy to send it back. I Spent half of it and decided to put that other $100 on the card I got at Walmart. Now I bought this card and the next time I went back to Walmart, I noticed they'd removed the whole batch of cards themselves. I thought something was fishy about that.

So I went ahead and tried to activate it. Here's where it gets ridiculous! When I tried to activate I accidentally activated it twice using my first name and then when that didn't go through I tried my middle thinking I might have used that. Instantly they lock my card, so I call them. They tell me even though it's my middle name they still need proof it's me! They make me send proof of my name to try and unlock it, then turned into proof of address. I'm thinking like okay that's fine. They ask me to send my S.S. Card, my ID, and proof of residence. This sounds sketchy as hell firstly, you want my personal identity? I sent it through email anyway though because I was anxious and determined sense job corps likes to Feed you **.

I email the first 2 and send something that has the address on it. They said it had to be something important. I told them I don't have bills I'm in trade school. They didn't give 2 ** and for months I had to hold onto that card until my stub came for completing. I finally got the stub after 5 months and tried to re-register it again. Sent it in email. Argued them down for days about it, because they kept saying it wasn't acceptable, because it was printed in the company's name and that it had to be in my name. This was stupid, because the address for the company was literally where I was laying my head every night and it was a bank stub! I'm upset I even wasted my time! I registered a Vanilla Gift Card, and an unauthorized user charged a dating site membership to the card. I disputed the charge, and got just the standard email back that read the dispute form was sent to the investigation unit. There was NOTHING in the email, NOTHING on the website that stated if a charge is disputed, your card becomes inactive, and the card number gets changed.

So, because it said on the page right after you log in that the card is inactive, you think that calling when the customer service number to get the card activated, they will then give you the card number and CCV number, right? WRONG!!! The customer service rep told me he wasn't allowed to divulge the new card number, but if I log in to the site, the number will appear on the site. Again, WRONG!!! So, I sent an email to the dispute email address, and I received a reply email that read they can NEVER reveal all sixteen new numbers, and the new CCV.

So, why does the card need to be deactivated then when you dispute a charge? Why, then, when the card is given new numbers, do we need to call to activate the card, when there is no way of getting the new numbers? They sent me an email and wrote that I need to send in a copy of a government issued ID, like a driver's license, and a utility bill, or some other bill with my name and address on the bill. Then they will refund the balance that's on the card.

When they deactivate the card, they don't tell you it can be reactivated. AND, when they deactivate the card, they don't tell you when the dispute is resolved, they change the card numbers. Then, they especially don't tell you that they aren't allowed to give you the new numbers. I guess they figure if someone had maybe $50 on the card, that person will feel that making a copy of a government issued ID, and a utility bill will be too much bother for just $50. But, now that I know the incompetence of this company, I will NEVER buy another My Vanilla card. BUT, if I did ever buy another My Vanilla card, I would bother with the ID, and the utility bill even if I had just 50 cents on the card.

The rep I talked to wasn't very bright. I had to repeat numerous times that my card was deactivated, given a new number, and I not only needed to activate the card, I also needed the new numbers. When he wasn't understanding that, and I kept having to repeat it, I got frustrated. I'm not patient when it comes to incompetence, so as I got frustrated, so did he, which is totally unprofessional, because I know people in jobs like customer service are told not to argue with the customer.

These people are VERY rude, both in their email responses, and in their phone calls. They are also VERY unprofessional. This company needs to be put out of business. They are a ripoff. The people are VERY curt. When they resolve your dispute, they don't contact you to let you know what the resolution was they came up with. You don't know they changed the card number until you go to the site, and see the number was changed.

When there is a disputed charge, I can understand deactivating the card until the dispute is resolved. I don't understand changing the card numbers, and I especially don't understand not being allowed to give out the new numbers to the cardholder. When you call to get the card activated, you have to give them personal information. So they know you're the cardholder. Why not give out the new card number to you, or to the people you authorized to use the card? They need to put on their site a place where we cardholders can put the names in of the people we authorize to use the card, or they need to change their policy, or they need to be put out of business. The company is a BIG TIME rip off company!!!

Updated on 09/23/2017: I wrote a scathing review of the card, and of the whole process involved in a situation where an unauthorized person makes a charge against the Vanilla card. I disputed the charge, and for whatever reason, it takes the dispute and investigation team weeks to make a decision on whether or not the charges are legitimate.

I specifically told the people at this company that there were just two people authorized to make charges on this card. I gave them the name of the second authorized person, and I told them if they could trace back who made the charge, and it wasn't the person whose name I gave them, then the charge wasn't legitimate. The other person swears it wasn't them who made the charge, company says the charge is legitimate, and will stay on my card.

My card is a Master Charge card. Does anyone know how we can locate a high management person at Master Card? If so, everyone who has written a bad review ought to write to this person, and tell him/her about the problems we have with the card, with the process and with the incompetent reps we have to deal with. While the unauthorized charge to my card was "just" $80, that was MY MONEY, and the person who made the charge had no business making the charge. How isn't what this person did considered theft and fraud?

We figured this would let him have a little bit of his own money at a time. When trying to activate his card they said his identity was wrong and would not let him activate it. Upon discussing this with customer care they said if he has trouble and has impairments he should not have this card and that this is NOT the service for him. With only $20 on the card we just ask for a refund and they said that to cancel the card it would cost us $9.95. They would not even let the card be switched into his poa's name saying that would be fraud. They treated us like complete criminals and acted like there was nothing they could do about it. I know $20 isn't a lot of money but when you are on a fixed income and trying to help family something like this can really make you upset.

My biggest problem with this was them saying that since he has impairments he should not have this kind of a service. It looks like a lot of people have similar issues with them saying the identity is wrong when it is actually right. If the card won't activate they should have to refund the entire amount. They send me a lame form letter with the wrong cc numbers on it and I've called millions of times and still f me. I'm filing criminal charges in them tomorrow. They cannot have my hard earned 1000.00. Hell no. It was last bit of operation capital we had and they delayed our business because now we can't buy supplies. Can you believe that crap? I hate their unprofessional manner of doing things and they are crooks. It's so simple to realize the money is stolen. All they have to do is check purchases and I have the original cards.

They just need to look at the address of where purchases were made and match with date and time I bought them. It's bull crap. I'm furious and disappointed that people seriously steal from honest consumers. I'd have used them from now on had they investigated this but they just say they closed matter even though letter reflects incorrect cards. They are ignorant crooks.
