    On or about July 30, I was expecting to receive my refund. It took them sometime because I was disallowed EIC (Earned Income Credit) a prior year. Anyhow, they sent my refund to Netspend. I was looking forward to buying me a house and as using that money. Well, my apt was broken into and everything was taken from flat screens, my kids' jewelry things that identify me. I also noticed all my cards were gone, so I called to cancel them all out. Well, every one of them got cancelled except my Netspend. I called it in. As I called it in, I noticed a couple of transactions on there. I immediately let the Netspend representative know that I have been a victim of fraud and this card needs to be cancelled out.

    (Hazel) was the representative's name. She said, "Rest assured we will close this card out." Well, I stayed on the phone for over 30 min. Do you think my card was blocked or cancelled? Nooooooo, I didn't find out till it was time for me to go and meet with the real estate agent and to finalize on a deal. Come to find out, they did not cancel or block my card and because they didn't, this has called a hardship on me and my kids. I had to call over and over and over again. I had to dispute all these charges. I have sent in a police report with their stamp, my signature at the bottom and a dispute letter.

    I am highly pissed. They have told me to wait ten days for investigation. I hope they fix this matter because I am in a bind. I am almost homeless because I didn't sign my lease for another year because I was supposed to be moving into a house. Now I have 5 days. Someone needs to do something, maybe CEO or someone. To top it off, there were back to back swipings of my card. How can you not know of fraudulent activity? I stay in California but charges were made in a different state. I will not be using any more banks and I hope they replace my refund!!!!!!!

    There has been times that my old number somehow surfaced after it was locked and canceled, that somehow there were fees on my debit transaction that were not pending anymore, but were given back to me due to the fact it was fraud. I'm a male that's 44 years old. What in the world would I need with a bathing suit order online and I'm paralyzed? SMH & LMAO!!! Which my card information has never been given. Those guys are great. Plus transfers are low. But I wish they had a monthly % rate on transfers out and that is very low according to a certain reasonably number of transfers.

    I have used my netSpend card in many places, in very difficult situations and I feel secure having my netSpend card. I am on a budget. So I only load what I am able to spend. So it helps me stick to my budget. I can never spend over my limit. When I order anything online, I use my netSpend card because I know that it will only be charged for that item and any attempts to be charged more will fail.

    As if I were to use my bank card, the possibility of being charged more than once can cause so many banking problems and bank fees. I have on an emergency bought airline tickets and rented a car using my netSpend card and had no problems. I have also received my Tax refund on my netSpend card.     I have had a NetSpend prepaid card for quite a while now, and I absolutely LOVE IT!!! I would recommend it to anyone for many reasons. I actually get my paycheck 2 days before everyone else. It only costs me $2 to load money onto my card. It has a savings account, that allows me to automatically put money into from loads and direct deposits AND IT EARNS INTEREST! It has an app so I can manage my money on the go. Very few fees, Payback rewards. It has bill pay. The only complaint I have is when I call in to customer service, it can be very difficult to understand some of the people that I talk to. However, with all of the positives, this little negative can easily be overlooked!

    I am very pleased at what a great tool that card had become to me in managing my disabilities payment. I went from earning 20,000 dollars a month and not knowing how to survive on $1,350.00 a month. Had no clue how to meet my bills and to survive in my new world of no income. It was the the income I must learn to survive on. Their fees are not always reasonable all the time but I am learning how to use my online information to know my financial status.     My wife and I have been Netspend customers for almost 3 years now. I ran $45,000 in direct deposit through my card in the last calendar year. Netspend has helped us with an $85 overdraft protection that we have used WAY more than most normal people would probably choose to use. It ends up taking $100 out of my next week's check, but to have the extra $85 when we need it (or just want something at that moment) has been a tremendous benefit!

    ALSO, EVERY time I have called customer service for help, I have received courteous service that typically resulted in AMAZINGLY great benefits. For example, we just were making an order with Sprint for some new iPhones and service (we already have 1 account with them). Sprint took $220 toward the new phone service, then decided that after we couldn't remember my sister-in-law's previous zip code from 5 years ago that they were denying our entire order.     I've been a NetSpend card holder for years and have enjoyed the many benefits it brings to my shopping needs. It's much better than a regular card as you don't get all the service fees that a regular card brings.     Great partners make life better in every way and a great financial partner makes handling life's financial challenges easier.

    I love the online access which is always up and running and easy to use - even for someone like me who is not a computer or financial wiz. I can get up to the minute information about my deposits and purchases at any time and at no cost as often as I like. My computer never tires of my inquiries and gives me exactly the information I want immediately.

    But, when I do need to call customer service, my calls are always answered promptly and no matter the issue I am treated with respect - regardless of my balance. My calls are rare but I'm always satisfied at the end.

    Finally, and here is the thing I love most about my NetSpend card, while other financial institutions that handle SSDI payments hold onto the full amount of my payment until the very last second, NetSpend gives me access to my monthly social security payment three days ahead. Yes. It is really amazing. I often wonder what other financial institutions do with my money after they have received it from the feds and before they hand it over to me. This is money that was withheld from my earnings starting from my 15th birthday. Finally, it is being returned to me now that I am disabled. And what do these other financial institutions do with the millions in funds they transfer from the feds to seniors and the disabled - every single month - during the time between receipt and disbursement?

    This gets back to the importance of choosing the right partner. NetSpend is there for me when I need help and the help they give me is dependable, respectful and honest. If only all partners in life were this great, living with a disability would be even easier.

    I used to have to run to the bank to get money as I did not have a debit card, only an ATM card. Now it is so great to call in bills, make purchases and withdrawals from the bank with the same card. Thank you NetSpend for being there for me.

    I bought a temporary card from Bartell's here in Seattle this past week and loaded it. Then I had a direct deposit also load onto the account this week. And wonderfully, the direct deposit hit the card a day earlier. But then I went to log into the account and I had error messages saying I couldn't log in and now my card is being declined when I try to use it. No message as to why; it just says declined and I can't even access the account to see what is wrong. I guess I was suckered.

    Two hours ago, someone completed a MoneyGram bill payment for 390.00 from my account and I called Netspend dispute department and they told me that they could not file a dispute and that MoneyGram would have to. I am furious because I called MoneyGram and they told me I have to file with Netspend. Now the call center is closed and someone is freely spending my money without anything being done!! I will take this as far as I can. Something has to be done about this bank not protecting consumers' money or at least filing the appropriate dispute actions.

    I'm writing this more as a Warning to YOU reading this so that you may take heed and not get this CARD. It is not worth the HYPE it proclaims. Don't fall for the get paid two days faster. What they don't tell you is that you can't rely on that. It's not always two days faster and they will blame your employer. It's very inconsistent. Don't fall for the $10 cushion or overdraft privileges, because when those unauthorized charges come through and they will, those little meaningless perks will not matter to you anymore. Keep reading to find out why!!

    Ok people, if you have stumbled upon this review then read it thoroughly, as it will save you from unnecessary headache and stress. First, believe it. Believe all the negative comments and complaints from your fellow consumers who are using or have used this worthless prepaid bank card. Pay close attention to the responses from Netspend to the consumers who left negative comments of. The first lie out of their mouths is, "We tried calling you regarding this matter but we were unable to reach you." Lie # 1. Netspend doesn't call you for squat. Not even if the call disconnects, they will not call you back, PERIOD. It's amazing how these people have taken the time to complain online, but wasn't available to accept a call from Netspend to rectify the situation. Stop, wait a minute, yeah think about that, process it.

    Next tip is Dispute Resolution Department (joke & lie). There is no dispute resolutions department. Netspend says they can only email the dispute resolutions department, that there is no number for them to call but they will send an email on your behalf and have the Claims agent working your dispute case call you. Really?!? I thought there wasn't a number to reach them, so how will they be able to call me? That would reveal their number and hence, therefore, I would have a number to be able to call back to. Yeah, process it, think about it. See the lies?? Any Resolutions Dispute Team/Department always has a number where you can speak to a representative about the status of your dispute claim. That is so that you can always send proof to help your case and also helps keep more than one person from touching your file and screwing it up.

    If you can't follow this guide so far, then you're going to get got and I can't help you. I'm speaking from experience here. I've lost $400.00 to this day with Netspend, and I'm still waiting to get my money. Next rule to Netspend club is there is no SUPERVISOR!! Never ever, ever believe that the person on the line who says they're the supervisor is actually the supervisor. A Supervisor/Manager will be able to make changes and/or adjustments. A supervisor does not give a scripted response. A supervisor has and is suppose to offer and give a RESOLUTION!! Don't even bother taking down a name or ID number. Fact of the matter is the name is Fake and so is the ID number. What are you suppose to do with the ID number, give it to FDIC, IRS or something? That number is useless and pointless. It's just a filler to make it seem like they're more legit and attached to something to make you feel protected because you have this random "ID number".

    Moving on, THEY DON'T CARE!!! It doesn't matter that your money has been stolen, your card been stolen, you have unauthorized ACH charges, or that they forgot to properly block your card. It's YOUR FAULT, not theirs. They don't care that you have nothing to EAT. They don't care that you’re RENT IS DUE. They don't care that your CAR Payment is due. They don't care that you need BUS Fare. They don't care that you need GAS to put in your car. They don't care that YOU or YOUR FAMILY members is sick. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT NOTHING, FOLKS!!!!!! You are not going to get your money!! Yes, I know you were responsible and reported those fraudulent charges immediately (as did I) in enough time for it not to post to your account or for anyone else to make those charges, but Netspend failed you and covered it up. They will BLAME you.

    If you like scripted answers, then this is the card for you. IF you like hold time of one hour or more AND you may get charged for that call to customer service, then get baby then. If you like to barely able to speak English customer service representatives, then be my guest, get this card. I could go on but I'm tired of typing. However, this should be enough for you not to put your money on this card. I wrote this complaint/review this way, as to not to receive that fake concern response reply from Netspend, lying saying they are sorry about the situation, blah blah blah and they tried to call me. Save that Lie for the next idiot. As soon as the class action suit rolls out, I'm supporting that baby. Netspend, you will be giving me my money back either in the amount owed or 3x more by way of the class action suit. Consider yourself served and warned, Netspend. Good luck!

    Within 12 hours of my review/complaint yesterday about how they handled my dispute, they locked me out of both accounts I have with them. No response as to why. They said they tried to call but were unable to reach me. I had no calls on my caller id and no messages on my voicemail.

    My name is Donnie and on Sept 13 I bought a reload pack and attempted to load $300. When I went to load the card it told me the card had already been used. I called and was told to send over some documentation and I did on 9/17. Well after calling a few times for updates, I was finally told on 9/30 by an incompetent manager that the documentation was never received. I became angry because I was never told between 9-17 and 9-30 that the docs were not received. Well I resent the docs on 9-30 and was told the matter would be escalated and that was a lie because since I have called 3 times and continue being told it will take this 10 business days.

    I think it's horrible business and customer services. I am being told the claims dept cannot be contacted. I just have to sit on my hands and wait. This is $300 we are talking about. My money has been taken from me by Netspend and I cannot get any answers. All I keep getting is 10 business days like a recording. I just want my money back because this has been the worst decision I could have ever made obviously. And I will no longer be doing any kind of business with Netspend. This is ridiculous. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB and Rip Off report. I have been very patient but I am coming to wit's end. This has been going on for almost a month now. Totally unacceptable! I JUST WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!!

    Both myself and my daughter were in and out of hospital for the past six months. A relative used both my NetSpend card and PayPal prepaid MasterCard (NetSpend) for online gambling, I filed a dispute in August for charges in June and July. I was told that I would get a credit in 10 days. Then on the 10th day they said I had not faxed documentation in. I still have the fax confirmation page that I did. I even called after that and was told they had everything and I would get a credit. So I faxed it again and was told I had to wait 10 more days, then was told 14 days. Then on the 14th day, I was told I didn't get a credit because I didn't fax documentation in and was told it would be 45-60 days. No one has responded to my last emails about an update or credit. Is there anywhere I can file a complaint at?

    I have had a Netspend card for several months. They are fairly adequate as long as you do not need assistance. They do not have a US based customer service center so once you need help, you will get someone on the line that can do very little more than what you would be able to do by accessing the website. The customer assistance will only be able to read you answers from a predetermined script. My card is currently blocked and I still have no explanation as to why or spoken to anyone who was not giving me a "canned" response. It is now 3 days and although it was the weekend, I have had no response to my calls or my e-mails. If an account is blocked, they should not accept your deposit. Now, I have no way of accessing my money and no response from them as to why or how I can fix the situation. Very poor customer service if any at all and a complete lack of concern regarding the fact that this is my money and the lack of access has caused a great deal of hardship.

    On October 1, my deposit was late. Then the next day while trying to purchase some groceries, the cashier told me my card was declined. Mind you, I have two children to feed. You think they care? Please!!! So I looked online to see what was going on. When I tried to log-in, I got message saying there was a problem with my account. So I called the number that was given. When I spoke with a rep, they told me my account was blocked and that they needed documents. "Huh?" I had this account for several months and now all of a sudden they need documents. Why wasn't this requested when I first opened this account first of all then. They couldn't explain to me why my account was under the fraud investigation. All I kept getting was the run around from these guys.

    I requested to talk to somebody in the fraud department and got hung up on each time placed on hold. Now me and my kids are stuck with no food over some nonsense that should have been handled a long time ago. Netspend is a waste of time, scammers. I find it hard to believe that Netspend get good reviews. The good reviews that you do see on here is people working for them. Everyone I know that has a Netspend card complains. I should have listened and not even dealt with these phonies. Hopefully, my attorney will handle this soon.

    I would not refer or advise anyone to use NetSpend. Their service is very poor and unpredictable. I have been a NetSpend customer since 2011. Recently, my direct deposit has been loading on various days at various times. My employer sends my payroll out on the same day at the same time every pay period. When I call NetSpend, no explanation is given and the representative barely speaks English and no matter what I ask, a robotic script is read. This is ridiculous. As of now, still no Direct deposit posted. I am shopping around and will be so glad when I can switch companies. NetSpend is gambling with people's lives and livelihood and they don't seem to care. Consumer beware. Don't get involved with NetSpend!

    I got a msg that on Sept 19, 2013 530.00 was transferred out of my Netspend acct so I called Netspend and was told it was to another acct in my name that had been activated that day. After explaining I didn't have another acct both accts were closed. Netspend has a security problem somewhere because of all the other complaints of this kind on the consumer site and I fully expect to get my funds returned to me for that reason. I believe either an employee is defrauding the customers or their online services are not secure. I have never had identity theft before and feel the blame is Netspend's. Don't use this service. They can't protect you from their own employees and/or website hacks!!!!!!!!!!!

    * Request cash back from debit purchases (in the grocery store for example).

    * Perform an over-the-counter withdraw inside of a local bank (if available). You can withdraw up to 4999.99 at one time - good to use to avoid multiple ATM withdraws.

    * Purchase money orders using the debit method, if you need to pay a bill.

    Today I wanted to transfer from my savings account to my checking account in order to make a purchase at T-Mobile, only to receive an error message telling me that federal regulations only allows me to transfer 6 times within a month. So naturally I called the customer service number (866) 387-7363, follow the appropriate prompts only for the messenger to tell me that "all of our customer service agents are busy with other callers. Please call back at another time." Then the ** hung up on me. Nice customer service! I called the number back 8 times only to get a busy signal when I followed the prompts to speak with a customer service agent.

    In another incident with Netspend I filed a dispute against a charge that appeared on my account and they told me that the dispute will take 15 business days to resolve. Really Netspend? Fifteen business days!!?? This company totally sucks right about now and they (Netspend) are lucky that they aren't located anywhere in Illinois. Otherwise I'd have to pay a visit to resolve my issues that aren't really issues if the company would just get its head out of its ** and provide the customer service it claims to provide. If anyone has guessed that I am a little unhappy with the service you have guessed correctly. Zero stars and both thumbs down!!!!

    1000s bucks missing from my account, called and talked with them. They have no fraud department or anyone who cares. Asked for a supervisor because the first was no help. Get this, they tell me to call the FTC and report it. My account shows a transfer to another account in my name. But they are so dumb they can't tell me who created it or how. All they said is call FTC. What is the FTC going to do? They don't have access to NetSpend's systems to figure out what happened. I tried to tell then to freeze my account so no more is taken out. They said, "Yes sir, we will do that right now." I wake up the next day and another $1000 is gone. Don't use this company. They don't care about their customers.

    Yesterday I got online to purchase something simple with my NETSPEND MASTERCARD...the same as I have done for the last 6 years.... This is the message I received: "YOUR CARD IS RESTRICTED." What? I trusted NetSpend (like a stupid sheep for the last 6 yrs) so my first thought was something is wrong with the website, so I sent them an email. In the meantime, I figured I'd pay the 50 CENTS & speak with a NetSpend operator to see if they could tell me anything...

    I finally get a hold of some guy LITERALLY in India (guess we pay for the long distance call) who tells me my account was closed due to...."SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY". What suspicious activity??? I had used my card to pay my car note & energy bill...and grab a bite to eat in the last few days. Things I have ALWAYS done. I use that card to pay most of my bills... phone bill, cable, insurance etc... and small purchases online, in stores & restaurants. WHAT DID I DO? What about MY MONEY?? Can I get it?

    This guy who can hardly speak English seems to only speak trained comments, LIKE A ROBOT keeps repeating the same thing: "Yes ma'am, SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY." "Money? What money you don't have money?" Yes I did & 40 bucks... ALL the money I have for the next couple of days!! "Okay mam let me check your account.... Oh okay, we'll mail you a check." So what did I do wrong? "The bank closed your account...not our choice... We don't know why." Who is the bank, which bank!! Can I talk to a supervisor?? "I don't' know mam... Please hold..." 10 min. PASS. "Sorry mam NO supervisor", NO answers, NO NOTHING! ONLY SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY???????

    They left me high & dry, after 6 years of paying $9.50 a month for service fees...extra $2 for ATM, 4 bucks to load and paying 50 CENTS to talk to an Indian human robot IN INDIA...only taught certain phrases & words & 0 capability of interaction due to non-comprehension of the English language! Thank god for friends...who loaned me $ so I could have food & gas to get to work today. What comes around goes around. And from the looks of things I'm not the only one this has happened to.

    I believe in Karma & I hope this review can be a part of that karma, even if it stops one person from ending up like me or worse. I am a single woman who travels & I depended on that card traveling several times alone...to think if they would have done this to me then! Oh wonder how many more people could have been in a similar position but did not/could not write a review!

    Please do not put your life's earnings on one of these cards...or anything you can't afford to lose. Beware your money is not safe. You could wake up tomorrow like I did thinking you have money to live only to find your account was closed, money gone due to suspicious activity...and nothing more??? Will I get my money back? Who knows...I will report back! I also attached a message I received yesterday morning...although I just noticed it today.     I have only had netSpend Prepaid Card for a few months, so to have this issue early on is definitely a problem. I receive my pay direct deposit to my card every other Wednesday. As of today, I have not received my pay nor am I able to contact their office. I have tried all their toll numbers, getting an alarming auto message stating my call can't be completed at this time. This very much concerns me, especially being that my pay was to be deposited today. Not satisfied at all with this experience.

    I have been a netSpend customer since 2004 and for the most part the service has been great! However this year 2013, major issues have developed with netSpend. Most of their customer service reps do not speak good English. You constantly have to repeat and explain why you are calling. When you call, you are put on hold for long periods of time. The line disconnects or if you are fortunate enough to get a rep and they have to transfer you... you wind up back at the prompts where you have to start all over again. With direct deposit, they claim you get your money two days earlier that if you were using a conventional bank... however, that is not necessarily the case.

    Case in point, I usually have my funds by 11:30 no later than 1:00pm. However, if you have plans you can forget it because I've waited past 4:00pm and netSpend does not have a clue where my funds are. I called my employer and they stated the money was sent this am.... so unfortunately this makes me want to seriously consider putting money under the mattress once again. They are UNDEPENDABLE!

    To begin, in the past, I was terrible with money. Very seldom did I plan or go over how to budget my money. Bank accounts were closed because I didn't balance my accounts, which usually ended up with many overdraft charges. The overdraft charges were killing me. I have very bad credit right now but am working on trying to repair it. NetSpend has given me help with this card, I can still do debit purchases, pay bills online, and work out a budget plan to cover the essentials. I know it isn't recommended to overdraft, but when you work paycheck to paycheck and an expense comes up, the three overdrafts a month that you are permitted if approved has helped me dramatically. For I'm kind of a loner, don't have friends or family to borrow money from. And I really don't like borrowing from a friend or family member, because I like making it on my own. So thanks, NetSpend. You're helping me reach my goal.

    I sent my wife to withdraw cash from the bank. She swiped the card and entered the pin. The transaction went through but when the teller asked for her ID, the bank canceled the trans. because she wasn't on the acct. Now netSpend is holding all of my money for 30 days until they can sort it out even though they talked to the bank and received paperwork that the transaction was voided. Be prepared to talk to 15 different people, get the runaround, not get a straight answer and still not get your money.

    NetSpend this morning sent me a text saying that my account has been closed and I have money in my account. They will not let me withdraw my money and they said I have to wait two weeks to get my money and that left me with no money. They said my account is under investigation and I can’t use NetSpend ever again. I been with NetSpend for more than 4 years. No one is being helpful and I’m broke and don’t know why they took my money or got it on hold. Sept 24, 2013.

    I applied in 2011 to get NetSpend card for my tax refund (which I never received). When I got the card and tried to activate it they said there was a problem and the account was closed. I never even used the card. So I called, they ask me some questions and gave incorrect answers according to their records. I was able to get a name that was used but they wouldn't give me any more information. I spoke with someone who told me they no longer had reason why I was being denied credit. I thought on a prepaid Visa? It turned out my Social Security number was used on a few other accounts and a co account holder. So these people who have stolen and used my ss# are entitled to privacy and I get no information. You are encouraging fraud by allowing this to happen.

    Yes I did contact the credit reporting firms. A year later, I received in the mail another NetSpend card and thought I didn't ask for this. So I called again said they couldn't activate it. Now why send the card and deny me and withhold information except to say now my number shows on two other accounts. I can't even get the damn prepaid Visa and it's my number yet you’re letting thieves get a card with my number and then protecting their privacy from me for whom your company has issued credit cards using my Social Security # then protecting them. It's my card number, they aren't even using my name on some of the accounts. Don't you people check whose name that number is listed under. At what point do you correct your mistake. When do I get my tax refund you gave to someone else? When do I get an answer from you or Bank of Mellon?

    Last Friday, $348.88 was taken from my account through Bravofly, a travel agency. Not my transaction. The money was either stolen, or a huge mistake made. NetSpend will not return my money for at least 7 days, if at all. My due bills are not being paid. Car payment is overdue now. All through something I never authorized. When do I get my money back? Do I need to hire an attorney? I deposit nearly 4000 monthly. I can afford an attorney if necessary.

    Last Tuesday, used my card as credit at a gas pump. I was never informed before this, I would have to go inside and pay with my NetSpend card first. Anyway after putting 6.01 in a 2 gallon container, ten minutes later I received a text stating 49.14 was charged to my card for fuel. Since then I have not had my account cleared of that charge. And NetSpend claims it is up to the merchant...If that is true, then why does my account show 6.01 charged off my card? Not happy at all.

    I am not happy with NetSpend. First, I think it is rude you never get to talk to a real person. Your robo system is awful. Then I have been locked out of the website for a week now. Plus my money I sent to NetSpend was returned. This is so crazy. And not a good way to get started. I wanted this type of credit card for a reason. I am seriously thinking of cancelling and going with someone else. Let people talk to real person. It might be saving you money but in the long run you might be losing money.

    Your service is excellent and I spend hundreds of dollars, mostly with Amazon every month. I don't have bad credit but without a credit history, I can't get a credit line. I understand the system and I just have to adapt by saving. I only worry that if I have to move at 70 years old and having a low a credit rating, I'll be stuck in poor housing. As a fireman, I received 2 gold medals and 1 unit citation for bravery. Just doing the job I love and miss so much.

    On Sept. 15, 2013 my NetSpend account was compromised. Someone in Chicago got my debit card number and PIN number and went to the Walgreens ATM and withdrew my savings and checking account and cleared out my bank account. I live in FL and have never have been or know anyone in Chicago, IL. I filed a police report in my city as well as Chicago. NetSpend has advised me that an investigation will take place and I need to wait 10 business days for an update!! They have not and are not giving me a credit and are telling me to be patient and wait for the 27th for an update. I have change in my account and no one is helping me in the process. I can't explain the frustration this has caused. I have no money, no resolution. I've been a loyal customer for over a year and never had my account in the negative. I want my money back and justice!!

    I've been a card holder for several years... In fact, I have 2 cards, a Visa & a MasterCard. I have never had any problems with either card, calling customer service, getting deposits &/or refunds credited to my account. My payroll is deposited 2 full days before my co-workers who don't use NetSpend. My only complaint is the ATM fees...     I have been with NetSpend for almost 10 years and had 3 accounts with them. I have had a very good experience with NetSpend and much better service than any local or national bank. My paycheck has been on direct deposit for a long time now and I always can count on getting it as soon as they receive the funds, usually two days before payday. So I have my funds available before anyone else who deals with other banking servicers.

    I get paid once a month, and that can mean a lot to someone who needs access to their money asap. The overdraft protection option and the $10 overdraft window is amazing and the fee is so much cheaper than any other bank or prepaid type debit cards. It has been the difference of having gas to get back and forth to work at the end of the month. When I have called Customer Service, I have been treated with the utmost respect and the Representative owned the issue and made sure it was resolved before hanging up the phone. Excellent service!

    I have been a Debit cardholder with NetSpend (Metabank) since 2010. I like working with their customer service people. I had just recently lost my Debit card and called in and their customer service agent was very friendly and took care of blocking my old card and issuing me a new card. I was lucky no bad transactions were pending or paid. Thank God. The experience was very informative and very helpful. I have and would again recommend a friend and/or family member to join the NetSpend (Metabank) family. I like that you have a chance to clear up an overdraft fee within 12 hours of your transaction, so you don't get penalized for a transaction you forgot about. You have time to deposit money in your account, to clear the fee.

    I have been a member for over 7 years now, and so far things are great. I like when I send an email to ask a question and I get a response within usually 24 hours. Customer service people are always polite and most of the time are able to help with whatever I needed. I like the fact that when my card was taken or misplaced, I was able to get things handled right away. The only problems I have had have been with my local Ace Cash Express office on N. Nevada and Fillmore. Several of the employees are not very friendly and sometimes a little rude. At least a half dozen times, I have gone in there over the last year and wanted to get a money order.     My experience with NetSpend was very good until recently. I have been a NetSpend Customer for about 6 years with 3 different accounts. I have never had a problem with deposits and have had very few disputes with my accounts. I am very disappointed with the way my account has been handled recently and after reviewing and research the Corporation, I find that I am not the only person having these problems.

    Recently, I added my brother to my account and he had a large deposit; however, after about 4 days of the deposit, my account was blocked and funds were put on hold. I was told that I needed to supply information for a person who was and is an authorized user on my account and a card was issued to him. I was also asked why money was off my card so fast, and as I explained to Chandra that "it's not my money so why would I hold on to it? Evidentially I let the person use my card for a reason." After that I was told to supply information on about 3 or 4 other deposits that were made into my account months ago. Also all three (3) of my accounts were blocked.

    When you first open your account with NetSpend, it states that you can have family members deposit money into your account. It is even stated on your website. But that is quite the contrary. When I first opened my NetSpend Account, I referred family and friends who opened accounts as well; however, I was never given the referral fee. When Netspend had the service of a payday loans I applied, was approved and was set up to for bi-weekly payments. When I started getting paid weekly, NetSpend automatically started recouping the money weekly without any notice to me.

    I am a payroll administrator for a large construction company in Arizona. We recently started using QuickBooks Payroll services. When I signed our company up for the service, there was an advertisement for direct deposit into a NetSpend account. I thought I would give it a try before recommending it to our 150+ employees. Here is what I decided: I will spend the rest of my days blogging and complaining on every website I can find to let consumers know how horrible my experience has been.

    August 5th, I purchased $231.67 of items at Lifetime Fitness Caf. I paid cash. On August 19th, I returned most of those items to Lifetime Fitness Caf for $229.38. The clerk asked for my purchase receipt, so I handed it to her with the merchandise. She asked me for my debit card to put the refund back on. I didn't think anything of it and handed her my NetSpend Visa card. She issued the refund back to my NetSpend account and scanned the card. On Friday, August 23rd I had part of my payroll direct deposit put into the NetSpend account. That day I found that NetSpend had blocked my account and would not let me access the funds on my card. They said it was because I had refunded some items on to the card that I had not used to purchase the merchandise with. I didn't even think about it when I handed the clerk my card. I didn't think it mattered.

    I asked what I could do to resolve the matter. The representative said to fax the receipt to their Fraud department. She did not specify which receipt, and I assumed since it was a REFUND that they would want the REFUND receipt. So, I faxed the refund receipt. I also emailed the receipt. I called again on Monday August 26th. By this time I was very angry. Not only could I not access my refund, but they would not let me access my payroll direct deposit. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, she told me that it would take three business HOURS to resolve the issue. She repeated it many times so I would understand. THREE BUSINESS HOURS. Ok, I get it. I called back three hours later. Another representative then told me it would take two business days. What happened to three business hours? I asked. I guess the script changed from one representative to the next.

    Since I had faxed the receipt on August 23rd, I fully expected the problem to be resolved by August 27th; this was not the case. I called AGAIN. Each time I called, I encountered another person with a mediocre grasp of the English language. I am a very liberal, unprejudiced person, but when I call a customer service line, I expect someone to be able to take care of and UNDERSTAND my concerns. Even the supervisors were reading from scripted information. Each time I asked a question, they would repeat the same answer OVER & OVER & OVER. They told me that I needed to fax in the receipt, (not specifying that they needed the PURCHASE receipt) AGAIN.

    I explained that I had done that multiple times. The rep told me that I would have to wait two business days, AGAIN. They said I would have to wait until the Fraud Department received the receipt. Since I had already complied with that request, I asked to speak to someone in the fraud department. The rep told me that was not possible. On August 26th, I finally spoke to someone who told me they needed the PURCHASE receipt. Who knew? Certainly not anyone I had spoken to previously. Apparently they did not understand the small difference between PURCHASE and REFUND receipts. At least not enough to tell me what they needed.

    Over the course of three weeks, I have spent over 126 minutes of cell phone time speaking with and waiting for customer service representatives. After explaining that I had given the PURCHASE receipt to the clerk who had issued the refund, the representative told me that there was nothing she could do. I was at DEFCON 3 by now. I said so you are telling me that there is no way to access MY MONEY? She put me on hold for several minutes. She got back on the line and told me I would need to go back to the vendor and have them reverse the refund. She said that was the only way I would be able to access my money.

    On August 26th, I went back to Lifetime Fitness and asked them to reverse the refund. The manager of the Caf tried to reverse the charge and was not able to. Even though I had 518.98 in my account, the reversal was declined due to "insufficient funds." Today, I finally obtained copies of both the purchase receipt and the refund receipts. I sent them to the fraud department. Now they tell me that the only way to access my money is to obtain a "RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT from Lifetime Fitness. I called the Club Business Administrator and explained my problem. She responded with the following email:

    Thank you for your e-mail. I apologize for the experience you have had accessing your funds. Unfortunately I am unable to reverse the original refund. However, I am able to provide you with a copy of the purchase receipt that NetSpend Visa requires per your e-mail (attached). I hope with both receipts satisfy NetSpend Visa's request for you to be able to access the refund. Please let me know if there is anything additional I can assist you with.

    So, I have sent in both RECEIPTS. I am patiently waiting for TWO MORE BUSINESS DAYS. I wonder what kind of horse ** excuse they will come up with next. Seriously, it has been three weeks. I am at a loss. If I cannot access my money, I suppose I will have to consult an attorney. It isn't really worth the $518.98 nor has it been worth all this time and energy, but I cannot let this go. If this is how they treat customers, it is my duty to let everyone that will listen KNOW HOW BAD THEY SUCK! Thanks for listening. And FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT GET A NETSPEND VISA. Thanks.

    I had an account with NetSpend at a different address than the one that I tried to open a new account with. At the old address someone ordered a card (because I lived with them), and then made withdrawals. After I found out about the withdrawals I told NetSpend to close the account. The account was left with a $0 balance. A year later I go to open a new account with NetSpend and they tell me that the card was overdrawn by 94 dollars. Yet they wouldn’t give me any information from when or where the transaction was made.

    They took the 151 dollars I loaded on the new card which was loaded because of an emergency and then told me that it would be 20 days before I get that back. Obviously they did not close the old card as I instructed them and allowed someone to steal 94 dollars and now they want me to pay for it in order to use their services. I would not recommend anyone use their services because they are thieves. The manager - ** is his first name, as he wouldn’t give me his last name - would not help me at all, would not tell me where the transaction came from or how they would resolve THEIR mistake.

    He was also very cold in telling me that I cannot verify an old address, and that he couldn’t tell me where the transaction came from because the information did not match the information on the new card... well obviously because I moved. It was their mistake, and they are robbing me of not only the 151 dollars I loaded into an account from Western Union, but also charging me 94 dollars for a mistake they made in not closing the old account after I had already informed to close it and the reason why because of theft. I also said that they were not to authorize the card to be reopened.

    I have been using Netspend for quite some time and I have been receiving my direct deposit from my employer for the last two years. A few weeks ago my family and my two young daughters stayed at a hotel and I paid with my Netspend card. When we arrived home I checked the balance on my card and discovered an additional $150.00 charge. My wife and myself were bewildered. We immediately called Netspend to inquire about this charge. We were told that it was the hotel we stayed in and they had charged us $150.00 for smoking in our room. I was furious with the hotel and explained to the hotel manager that the reason we stayed at a non-smoking hotel was because we had our two young daughters with us. Why on earth would we smoke in the room?

    The manager was very arrogant and would not listen. It seems this hotel was newly renovated and it seems they are looking for any means to pay for these renovations. Even if they have to rob their paying guest. Believe it or not this situation became even worse. I called Netspend to dispute the charges. First thing they said was, "we need to wait for the item to post to the account" which we did. Once the item posted we initiated a claim. Upon receiving an email requesting that we fill out a dispute form and fax it back with any evidence we have to support our claim. We faxed the form along with the evidence the same day we received the email, which happened to be the 4th day after the item posted.

    Every day we called to see if a credit was issued. We were told everyday that on the 10th business day they would issue a provisional credit if the investigation was not settled. Would you believe on the 10th business day after telling us they received our form and documentation they reversed the statement and said they had not received the form or any of our documentation. Therefore we would not be eligible for provisional credit. I then emailed the confirmation email we were sent for our documentation being received. After their rep in Texas reviewed this email, they still came back to us with a September 30th resolution date. This unauthorized charge occurred back on July 21, 2013.

    A $150.00 may not mean anything to the folks over at Netspend. However as I tried to explain to the rep at Netspend, schools about to begin and $150.00 can buy a few school uniforms. I have reached the end of my patience. Please someone with some common sense. Please help us get our money back!!!!!!!!!!!

    First, I really don't want my credit card to be on the internet, so I used my credit card to purchase a NetSpend card. I am a Canadian visiting the US. I do online gaming and use these types of cards in Canada all the time. But they wouldn't let me purchase the card with a credit card. So I went and got cash. I purchased the card and loaded $50. I went to their website which said that if I was from another country, I would have to put in foreign ID, so I put in a passport number and it came back 3 times as invalid.

    So I called customer service. Funny how it's no longer invalid. They said, "Your card is active now." So I went online and tried to make my purchase and it said, "Payment denied by your bank." So I went to PayPal because I have had difficulty paying on this site in the past. I didn't have a US PayPal account, so I signed up for one and then tried to add the card to the account and it failed. Damn these people.

I agree that NetSpend was one of the last ones I tried but this is what I found. Most major brand debit cards (not cards issued by your bank with a checking or savings; those are called an ATM/Debit cards) have a minimum balance requirement to start using their cards. Most of the cards I’ve tried charge a per transaction fee. This means that each time you use your card, you could pay up to $2.00 per swipe and on a few cards I tried there were time restrictions for spending money you have loaded on the card.

    Going to the NetSpend website and filling out a short order form, you can get your card within 10 days. No credit checks and not much info from you. While you’re at their site you can enter your zip code to find all the places that will load money on your card with their fees. When you order your card, you do not have to add money at that time and there are no time limits on adding money once you get your card. I have a friend that ordered the card and it was over a year before he ever put a dime on his card and when he did, there were no fees. Loading your NetSpend card could not be easier. Most places don’t even require you to get a Reload Pack as you have to do with other cards. Using the reload cards you had to get set dollar amounts and there was always a reload fee. With NetSpend there are many places you can reload and most of the time you tell them how much you want to load, they swipe your card and you’re done.

    Pricing, the most I’ve seen for reloads on NetSpend cards are at your local check cashing stores and those are about $4.99 a load. This is not a charge from NetSpend but from the place of business that loads the card. HEB doesn’t charge a penny to load money and you don’t have to have a reload pack card. Just go to a check out and tell them how much you want to load and money is loaded for free. Another place that is cheap to load is your Murphy Gas Stations. There fee is only $0.99 to load and no reload card is needed (I call these swipe and go). Murphy are the gas stations you find at your local Wal-Mart.

    Another bonus I didn’t find on any other card, is the fact NetSpend offers a savings account that pays 5.0% interest. You just log into your on-line account, transfer the amount you want into savings and you’re done. Getting the money back out of savings is just as easy, with no wait time or fees for adding or taking money out. There are many other great features with this card, the best is your not being charged each time you use your card. The only fee I’ve found is when you use your card at an ATM. NetSpend doesn’t charge for this, the bank/owner of the ATM is the one charging for use of their machine. A way around this is any time you make a transaction at a store (i.e. Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreens, Target) you can get cash back for no charge. Other cards I tried did allow this but most had some type of fee for this.

    I am currently a student of UoP. Every 6 months or so I receive an excess amount of funding into my bank account. I decided to go with Netspend and have my money deposited directly onto my card. However my school released the funds over 3 days ago and I have yet to see the funds in my account. The school did their part and now it is Netspend's turn to do theirs. I have called the 866 number wondering what was going on and no one seems to give me a straight answer. I am highly annoyed and very agitated. I don't understand why they advertise direct deposit to be 2 days faster than any other bank when they are already days late.     At first I was very satisfied with NetSpend. I was able to have my Social Security Disability direct deposited into my account and all was well. Then one day, when I received a fairly large deposit of back pay, with which I was planning on purchasing a vehicle, I was suddenly unable to access any of my money.     In all of my life, I have never experienced customer service as horrible as NetSpend. I had seen the thousands of bad reviews on hundreds of websites, including the 1,702 complaints on the Better Business Bureau. However, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and for over a year, I had very few issues other than the enormous fees (over $40 per month). I use the card as an alternative to my credit cards and bank-issued debit cards to protect from using my primary cards for my online purchases, having been the victim of identity theft on numerous occasions.

    One of the main issues with the NetSpend card is when a merchant places what the industry calls a "soft authorization" on your card, NetSpend treats it as if it was "captured" or, in other words, the final sale. For example, when you check into a hotel, they may "authorize" your card for $500 to cover any charges you may incur and assure you have enough money to pay; however, at check out, when the actual charges are reconciled, many times, NetSpend will do a second debit for the actual amount, holding both the $500 and the actual charge.

    They then may require the merchant to send them a fax releasing the "held" amount, which the fax has to follow a certain set of arbitrary NetSpend "rules", and even then, it can take some time to rectify, and in the meantime, you do not have access to YOUR money. If NetSpend does this to tens or even hundreds of thousands of card holders, that can add $50 million dollars or more, substantially more to their accounts. Even if this money is not earning interest in the account with which it is being held, there is a banking term "compensating balances" which absolutely benefits NetSpend.

    In my latest nightmare with NetSpend, I purchased a piece of electronics from a major well-known company that I have a 15-year relationship with. My NetSpend card was "soft authorized" for just under $750; however, the next day, the correct amount with state sales tax was actually captured for just over $800 in order to process the order. Well, NetSpend debited both amounts and is refusing to release the $750 even though the merchant spend hours on the phone and sent two faxes asking that they release that amount.

    It takes hours upon hours just trying to get the English challenged customer service reps to understand and even then, no support is ever offered, just a "there is nothing we can do..." SERIOUSLY!?!?! I eventually contacted the CEO and was responded by a Heather ** and her response was the merchant hand-wrote the request instead of typed it. Again... SERIOUSLY!?!?! Which, by the way, a second fax, typed, was sent, and I still have not received the debited money back.

    Fortunately, I am very blessed and I can afford to be out $750, even spend $20,000 to make sure NetSpend stops these practices, but I am upset for the hundreds of thousands of people that are struggling, living week to week and use NetSpend as basically their bank. Having their paychecks, disability, retirement, social security checks direct deposited to NetSpend. Read the desperate cries from these individuals whom are being wronged by this company. It is for that reason that I will do whatever is necessary to stop NetSpend from these abuses. If enough individuals step forward, I will even bankroll the initial launch of a class action lawsuit. I have already contacted my local congressman and am completing complaints to the California and Texas Attorney General's Offices.

    I have had several NetSpend ACE Elite cards but never signed up for Direct Deposit.. I regret it now. Yes, you get paid 2 days before but you never know what time you are going to receive your money; every time varies. It's now the day before I am supposed to receive my check and still nothing had deposited into my acct. The customer service line closes so early that you can't call and inquire if there's a system issue or anything nor do they respond to your e-mails.     Netspend has restricted my use of OD protection on my card, but it is my money, and I pay all overdrafts with my SSD. It charges me over the OD amount $15.00 for three OD each. Again it's my money that is paid from my disability. They seem to be breaking the law and not complying with SSD laws. They claim there is some law restricting the number of my overdrafts, and I've had other accounts without this restriction.

    I talked to eight (8) people from 4:50 pm to 8:09 pm and did not get a thing accomplished. I've worked in customer service for 35 years and I've never ever seen or given such poor service. My pin was changed WITHOUT my request. All I wanted was access to verify my last 3 deposits so I can purchase a car. I will find another means of direct deposit to another company ASAP.

    I am so glad I decided to use Netspend to deposit my payroll checks. I save so much money not having to cash my checks at check cashing stores. I have never had an overdraft fee, which is why I decided to use Netspend in the first place. I was having a lot of problems with my bank. The only problem I did have was my tax refund checks were rejected for some reason, and I was very unhappy about that. But overall I am very satisfied with using Netspend.

    Well the card works find for me. I am able to receive my paycheck two days early which is a plus for. But the only reason why I did not give a five star is due to the text alert. When I text Bal, it always tells me that I have a $0.00 which can be scary for me when I know that I do have funds. Then I have to call the automated teller to get my balance.

    Netspend is a good company but the overdraft fee are a little too high. It has a short repay to the feature but in case of a emergency you can overdraft your account to help you get by until you get paid.

    I have recommended Net Spend to a lot of my friends and I know of at least 20 have your card now and like it better than any other prepaid card or any other credit card. Also I like it and will continue to use it. I just wish I didn't need to use my over draft every month.
