I like having my NetSpend card and direct deposit is the only way for me to get money on the card. They have an excellent service but one bad part is that I have to pay at the ATMs to get cash. But I have already recommended NetSpend to family members.

    Dear Delphia,

Thank you for your feedback. We are excited to hear that you enjoy having your NetSpend card. We understand that ATM fees can add up and to avoid ATMs, we recommend the following options:

    * Request cash back from debit purchases (in the grocery store for example).

    * Perform an over-the-counter withdraw inside of a local bank (if available). You can withdraw up to $5,000 at one time - good to use to avoid multiple ATM withdraws.

If you have an questions please feel free to email us at feedback@netspend.com.

    Thank you,

I use NetSpend for direct deposit because I get disability and I have to have somewhere for my direct deposit to go to. The people at NetSpend don't speak good English. They're hard to understand and some of them are better than others. If they answer the phone, they should be very bilingual in English and of other languages. If I can't understand them, why are they answering the phone?

I get paid earlier which is one of the perks. But my money is gone so quickly. It's a very shady company. If you log on to the account thing on the website, it shows each transaction. I added up each dollar amount and it pretty much adds up but I don't trust them. The way things post, the things happened later post first. For the fees, whoever owns the ATM gets $2.50, so does NetSpend. You are paying $5 to make any withdrawal out of an ATM machine and that is a high fee. I didn't know that for a long time. It's very frustrating because I'm stuck with not being able to get anything else but NetSpend. I would not refer them to somebody else.

I withdrew from the banking system in 2007 and decided NetSpend was a better choice for my needs. Faithfully, my monthly deposit of Social Security goes into my account, and I can track on the internet using NetSpend. Plus, there's no overdraft fees. And the customer service is fantastic. There's been a couple of occasions where there has been a loss of card or a dispute between me and a merchant, but NetSpend has always been able to resolve the situation. I really support NetSpend and though there's always room for improvement, I've been very pleased and happy with them. In fact, I would recommend it to a friend.

I've been a customer of NetSpend for a few years and I like that their fees are cheap compared to other providers. I don't have to worry about not getting my money and it's an advantage because I know exactly when it will go on my card. I get direct deposit and it's very convenient than not knowing. I'm disabled now, but when I was working I always got my paycheck three days before everybody else did which was amazing. Moreover, I use NetSpend to make online purchases and it's very convenient and I didn't have any problems at all. Their customer service is always great and they resolve my problems right away. Netspend is fantastic and I would recommend anybody who wants to use a debit card to go with them.

I get paid two days earlier with it so I got NetSpend. I use it to purchase online, it’s as simple as putting your card information in. But not for bills. Netspend is not one of those prepaid that in some places you go it’s hard when you swipe and doesn’t recognize the card. I also utilize their reload locations, it's easy ‘cause it’s right up the street.

I called their team once because I had to re-create a new account as someone got a hold of my card. I asked the representative if will I get a new account and a routing number. And I was informed “Oh no, it’s not gonna change. Everything’s good.” I even verified it, that way I get paid with my check and will go direct deposit versus having to get a whole new information. Unfortunately he told me the wrong information because when I called back, I found that my direct deposit got rejected and went to paper check which took forever to come through the mail. It caused a lot of headache. I wish the representative could have explained it. That way things could have turned out better. But I have this new card and I haven’t had trouble. Now that I’ve switched over to premier, it’s easier for spending and paying bills, etc. unlike before when it wasn’t as convenient because of the transaction costs.

I had a friend that used NetSpend and liked it. Then I used to work for Speedway and we had NetSpend cards there, and it’s where I first signed up. Part of my paycheck goes to NetSpend, and part of it goes to a checking account. The NetSpend check goes in a couple of days before my other. It’s easier to budget my money since it’s like I’m getting paid twice a week. I can take the money from the care and pay certain things earlier. I’ve been able to use my card to pay bills or make online purchases, and it’s extremely convenient. NetSpend is a good program and I appreciate it. I have recommended it to a number of people.

I’ve been with NetSpend since 2010. It's a very good card and I like the fact that I can pay earlier. They even got the overdraft, an added feature, that’s great. What I don’t like is all the fees. We pay ATM fees but then they charge us some fee as well. Also, I spoke with them yesterday because I was already in the negative. My grandson was playing with my phone and he charged a ¢99 in the Google Play games, and NetSpend charged a whole other $15. I thought I only get charged $15 if I'm $10 or more negative. But I was told if I'm already in the negative and use something, they’d charge everything more. I couldn’t understand that and it sounds a whammy.

Other than that, everything is working out better for me with NetSpend. Any time I had a dispute, my funds always went right back to my card and the matter got resolved immediately. When I make an online purchase, it’s real simple. I never have any major issues. NetSpend is one of the better prepaid cards... better than a regular financial institution. I’ve been getting my refund and government check, and paycheck, and it’s been great. My funds are going out right away with no problem.

A check cashing place in McAllen, Texas was where I knew about NetSpend. The guy had told me it was cheaper for me to have an account with NetSpend and have my disposure there than with a bank with lower fees. I've been very happy with NetSpend since I made the switch. It's very easy to use and I didn't carry cash anymore and I get all my bills paid using my NetSpend card. There was one incident where I got angry and that was when I lived in Texas and the person that I was with had DirecTV. The DirecTV account was in her name, but I paid the bill. When we split up and she didn't pay her DirecTV bill, they turned it off but they went to the last record of payment, which was me and I got popped for $400. I called NetSpend and told them that my name is not on the account, but I never got my $400 back.

However I was very happy with Netspend when they gave me my money back when I got burned at a US Bank cash withdrawal since it took money out of my account but I didn't get the money. Meanwhile, I wished they'd come out with more different card designs. They used to have a couple of NFL teams, but they didn't have my team. If they would come out with newer designs, I would order a new card because my card is getting worn. Since I'm going to have to get a new card anyway, I would like to hopefully have something different and nice for my wallet.

I've been with NetSpend for a very, very long time and I mainly used it as savings account. Whenever I get paid, there’s a portion that comes from my pay that directly deposits into that account. They also have the mobile app where I can immediately transfer directly from my savings into the checking account which is definitely a perk in case of emergency. However, the encounter that I had with the NetSpend team wasn’t a very pleasant one. It was around the holidays and my card had been compromised. There hadn’t been any activity so I don’t know if it was lost or stolen but I had to go and get a temporary card so that I could make sure that I could transfer the money that was on that card on to the other card in case of emergency.

I understand that there’s a protocol that you have to go through in order for someone to access the account but after I’ve already verified all of my information and it was clear that I was the cardholder, the guy that I talked to just took me through an extensive amount of back-and-forth deal. I called eight times that day and he had me waiting 24 hours. I had to verify the last deposit amount and all kinds of things and I was like, “Dude, I’m just trying to transfer my money to a new card.” I gave him the story of what was going on but he was not empathetic and not trying to work with me.

I was put through a lot of hassle and to be quite honest, the experience was so bad I almost just completely discontinued my business with NetSpend altogether. Then I ended up speaking with the supervisor. He got back with me almost immediately after 20 minutes of calling and after I’d voiced that I was having a situation that I was really frustrated with the person that I was dealing with. He was able to do an automatic transfer where all he said I needed was a number where I could access the account online, put in that number and transfer the funds to the new card which took no time whatsoever.

The fact that he got back with me so quickly was definitely great customer service especially when you’re dealing with something as personal as your money and I had several thousands of dollars in the account, so of course I was concerned. It was good to know that somebody cared and I would definitely recommend them to friend. I’ve been with them 8 years and one experience is not going to ruin it for me.

I needed something so I could get direct deposits in one of my jobs, and so I got NetSpend. I use my card to electronically pay my bills since I live in rural Arizona, in the middle of nowhere. One reason why I use the account is because we don't even have mail delivered to our house. Without plastic money, living out here would be impossible. I can't drive 100 miles to pay a bill and I don't have a checking account. Checks are outdated. So without that, I couldn't make online purchases or pay bills and it would be a hassle.

NetSpend is super easy and convenient. I just loaded $100 on there last week to pay for my daughter's ACT test so she can get her college test. I walk in, throw the money down, it cost me a couple of bucks and I'm done. The money's on my card within 5 minutes. At some piont I had a lot of problems because my NetSpend password was lost but I was able to get online with somebody and helped me through access and they sent me a new, temporary password. I was able to access what I hadn't been in for several years and print out the statements for the loan company. And it fixed the problem so I could get the car. Overall they have done a good job. The best compliment I could say is that I've never had a problem. They haven't really made things difficult at all so I'm satisfied.

I use NetSpend when I make my payments with Katherine’s, with the department store card as well as my car payments. It’s set up with direct deposit just that when my son send me the money I got to put it on there so that when they take the money out for my car it’d show up. And it helps me to keep up with the budgeting as for as how many more car payments I have left.

Also when I was working I had direct deposit. I knew that my money was there, it always got there two days prior to everybody else’s. The bills are easier to take care of. I still would have direct deposit if I had a job but the extra fee takes me away from using it a lot. $3 to take the money off, $3 to put money on and that adds up. It’s hurting me now with what low money - bill paying and stuff but other than that the service is good.

NetSpend came in really handy as far as being able to locate the ones that I need even when I’m travelling. If I need to find the closest, I put in the zip code of the area. Like on my way home, get to the freeway George Bush, I can put in the zip code and I discovered there was one there in Plano off of 15th street. I don’t think they are in every state but in travelling I’ve noticed that I can get my money out of a different ATM and not as expensive as it is usual to get it out of my card.

Furthermore I’ve had a great interaction with all the NetSpend customers, whether in person or online. Even when I was a victim – I went to buy something at Home Depot and I was notified by a representative that there had been some compromise. They told me I need to get a new card and that came just quickly. Didn’t really stop nothing from going toward the way it was so I was happy with that. I told my son about Netspend so they have it as well. They work on the road all the time with a Foreign company and they can’t always be at home to get the checks.

I can't believe anyone could give this company anything above a one star rating. I would have given zero or lower if possible. I buy many gift/debit cards for our employees every year and knew that some of these cards are real rip offs, but this one takes the cake. Unfortunately, my wife bought this for a friend and had no idea how sneaky some of these cards are and she didn't read the fine print. Besides the cost to buy the card over its value, they charge you to call and ask anything about it. How to use it, how to load it. They also charge you $1 each time you use it, .50 to inquire about it, a $5.95 inactivity fee, $2.50 for ATM use and $2 if you use it with a pin. And for reasons not clear to me, we can't use it on the internet, only "in store" purchases. Please, do yourself a favor and don't buy cards from this company. The people who rated it highly must work for them.

I needed to pay stuff with a debit card over the phone or online so I got NetSpend. I've had accounts set up on auto-pay and I've never had any issue with them until the last couple of years. It may be due to the bank-changing or whatever the case may be but it just seems like, as it’s gotten bigger, their customer service and the business has gotten worse. The only benefit to using it is I'm disabled now and I get the disability part of my money a little faster as opposed to my regular bank. I also use direct deposit once a month and I reload it occasionally, which they don't charge for.

It's on and off sucky but I still use them. A year or so they outsourced their customer service to India or Fiji or wherever the hell they're outsourcing it to. NetSpend needs to understand that when they outsource people, they don't necessarily understand the script occasionally. They might want to deviate from that script. It's very frustrating for people to talk to someone who all they'll say is what's on their script to say. That's not customer service, that's a monkey answering the phone. And instead of outsourcing, they might as well hire a bunch of monkeys and feed them bananas and let them handle their customer service.

And if I'm not able to purchase those things then they want to send me to a nursing home. And I'm only 27. Can anyone tell me what the protocol of when I can receive my provisional credit.

I had NetSpend probably since 2006. When I got it, they told me that if I got direct deposit on that card, there will be no fee withdrawing up to $300. But every time I get money off that card, they're charging me $3. I called NetSpend and they told me they’re not charging me that. I also asked the A-Store where I bought the card and told me they’re not charging me either. From the time I bought the card in 2006 to just recently, they're still charging me $3 and I have direct deposit of over $500 a month so I don't understand it. Another recent issue is when I go to their website to log into my account, my computer security software is telling me that the website is a bad site. I can't use my online account right now. This just happened and I plan contacting their customer service soon.

Those are my only issues with them. Other than that, I've enjoyed my card. I like the convenience of it being able to use it online to pay my cable and power bills and that I can also use it on my phone, the many types of loads and its alerts telling me the where, the when and the how much. I got to do things quickly. And I can go over to my local store and pull cash off when I need it. I love it. I would highly recommend this to a friend. In fact I got my husband, momma, sister and niece on the card. Now they've been on the card for years.

With Netspend, we're able to keep track of our finances a lot better than most places. And in this day and age, we just can't go to a computer really quick to check our balance and NetSpend made that easy with their text alerts. We got bank that does it but they don't do it as good as NetSpend. NetSpend is very convenient. It makes you want to go to a grocery store and use your card and get an extra $20 to $40 cash back where you're not going to get charged extra. But if I got to get $100 or $200, I get charged around $6. I used to pay bills and make purchases online with it except when I want to transfer funds from this card to my normal account because I get charged $2.50. This is a reason why we went to a normal bank is because if we want to take money off that card, we have to pay almost double to take it out of an ATM machine because despite the fee that they charge me at the ATM machine, I get charged from NetSpend.

Another issue is that I still get charged $10 a month for whatever fees they have. But it's funny because six years ago, they started charging $5 a month if you have over $500 a month deposited in your checking account via direct deposit. That's a lot of money. There's no reason why I should be paying $10 and everybody else is paying $5.

I'm almost now to the point about just going to our regular bank. I can't even understand a word their customer service representative is saying. I get my disability check sooner but I do have one complaint about that. We used to get our checks between the 26th and the 28th. This year, they changed it without notice and the guessing game is ridiculous. I'm looking like a fool because I tell people I'm going to pay them on this time or that time. And the only response that I get from NetSpend on Facebook is that you get your check the moment it is deposited. But they can't fly that with me because I already have inside information on how it all works. As much as I use that card, it doesn't make me feel good as a customer.

I’ve had NetSpend for years and we got a premium plan where it wasn’t supposed to charge us per month, and every time you call, they say “Oh, that’s changed.” So they still charge us so much money per month - for every transaction they charge us a dollar off of our transaction. In the beginning, it was cool, everything was going well, and we didn’t get charged. But when they came up with the premium service, and they turned around and said, “Oh, well, now we’re charging these fees.” At this point I have a card that charges me a monthly fee of $5, but if I reach a certain limit or if I put so much money into the card, then I don’t have to pay the monthly fee, but it kinda defeats the purpose if I’m putting over $1,000 into the card. The $5 gets waived but does that make sense? Why do I need to reach a $1,000 limit on a card and paying out so much money for $5?

I tried to put in direct deposit so that I wouldn’t get the fees and my employer said that NetSpend won’t even use that card as a direct deposit. So I went to put the routing on the checking and it still gives me all these errors. I don’t even know why I would continue using it, but I’m trying to figure it out. Over the years that I've used NetSpend, I am dissatisfied. Netspend should put more effort and spend money on their customer service, and value the service versus just putting people there. I know foreigners are getting better in customer service, but it is still frustrating when they don’t understand, and they don’t know and care with what we’re trying to do in our business.

I received a call from a person at Nextcare Holdings, Inc. the company that owns or handles PrimaCare accounts on August 27, 2015. They called to let me know that I overpaid for doctor visits that my daughter and I had incurred during visits to Primacare. She asked me if I would like to have it put directly back on my bank card or she could cut me a check and mail it. I told her it was better to refund it directly on my NetSpend bank because I had just started the new school year (I am a teacher) and I have Fibromyalgia and arthritis, and I have been working 12 - 13 hour days, which make my pain intensify and makes it hard for me to get around. The refund amount of $225.00 was posted to my account on August 28, 2015, and I got a text message showing the balance on my card. I had not spent any of the refund because I knew that my daughter had some dental work to be done on September 3, 2015.

I tried to pay the dentist and the card would not go through, it was declined. I called NetSpend and they told me I needed to email documentation of the refund from Nextcare Holdings, Inc. They gave me a reference number and told me to include it in the email with the documentation. I could not find my original receipt and I figured it was because I do everything paperless, so I sent in the receipt provided to me by Nextcare Holdings, Inc. and I have been to the Primacare that we went for our doctor appointments to get the statement of account showing that I did indeed pay for these visits. NetSpend refuses to acknowledge any of this documentation and makes excuses as to why they refuse to accept it, like "email was blank, no documents uploaded" or "No reference number included", "we cannot match these documents to your account".

On Friday at 3:43 pm I received a text saying that my direct deposit is pending. I called NetSpend to see why and they said the account is on hold because of this $225 refund. I asked them why this affects my ONLY paycheck for the month and they said I still need to send in documents to prove the refund. NetSpend refuses to remove the block until I have given them documentation that I actually paid for $225 in doctor visits. I received this refund from an overpayment to my doctor. I have sent the documentation by email at least 15 times and they still refuse to lift the hold on the account. My paycheck has also been direct deposited in that account from my school district and they will not let me access my paycheck? They keep telling me when I send in the documentation of refund amount they can lift the hold of my paycheck.

I keep sending document after document and they email me back saying "your document email was blank" or "we are sorry we cannot accept this documentation because there is no reference number listed to associate with this account." I have put the reference number on all the sheets of documentation with my name, card ending number, social security ending numbers to make sure they can match documents to my account. Still no paycheck. The district gives money to teachers in our September paychecks to buy supplies for our students and I have no money for them or for my family for food, gas, or to pay my rent, car payment, etc. How can this be legal? I have had panic attacks and my body is swelling due to pain and stress from this. I cannot get the treatment needed to help me feel better so I can work. I really need some help!

I’ve had to call customer service for a couple of things and never had to wait long, and I always got what I needed. I didn't have any huge issues that were never worked out with Netspend, and that’s a nice thing too. NetSpend has been reliable and steady. It’s more convenient with bills and utilities. I went with NetSpend because I was upset with my bank at the time and there was someone else in the office who was using NetSpend and liked it. NetSpend guarantees your deposit for any other banks and that's nice since it gives credit due your account and your deposit gets credited. I use direct deposit most frequently since I'm still wary about leaving money in cyberspace. Deposits are consistent -- they aren't in there and taken out twenty-four hours later and put back in again twenty-four hours later. While it was inconvenient that they charged me last spring, I had the money back in the account quickly after giving reasonable information. On the other hand, finding a reload location is not as easy as it was three years ago. NetSpend made a change how you could reload and where you could reload at and that became not as convenient as it was before.

But overall, they do what they say they're gonna do and they are reliable. They're predictable and there haven't been any surprises which is a good thing that you don't get from other banks unless it's a smaller town bank. Their team speaks better English and I haven't had that issue with them unlike my experience with other companies. They're more friendly than other banks, and NetSpend stands out better. I wish I could talk to them about extending their services more. I don't understand why they don't but we could use more services than what they offer since there's always room for improvement.

Let's start from the beginning. I have been a so called customer for 3 yrs. They USE TO make sure my deposits were on time. USE TO! You would think because they advertise their product guaranteed 2 days pay ahead of time they'd stand by it but that's a lie. I get paid 1 day earlier at night at that and I mean late night after everything is closed. They never take responsibility for none of the dog crap they take you through. Their answer for everything is, “IT'S THE MERCHANT'S FAULT!”

What’s making me leave Netspend is the crap and by saying crap I'm being nice they allowed an UNAUTHORIZED transaction to go through my acct. Cost me $639.00, my RENT MONEY! And they meaning their disrespectful CS REPS to leave you on hold over an hour, 1 hour 15min 25 sec to be exact. I had to use another cell phone to get through to someone and the kicker, they answered that phone quicker while the phone I was on hold for loss charge and NO ONE answered over the money they allowed to get taken.

You know I listened to their automated system, clearly says can use your debit card anywhere which is a lie. If you do and the merchant decides to hold your acct number they can call back and steal your money. It’s not NetSpend’s fault though so they say they allow other companies to toy around with your funds at their own will. They don't stand behind their customers. If you put your money in their acct it’s really at your own risk. They protect the merchant NOT THEIR CUSTOMERS.

To make a long story short they want me to write a letter to get my money back. The countless phone calls and them hearing you tell them the transaction is incorrect after they take you through the ringer VERIFYING YOU DON'T MEAN **! Here's my damn note Netspend! Are you going to get my money back your company allowed unlawfully to take from my acct because I did not authorize any company to take my hard earned money!!! Signed DIONNE **, very unhappy customer! So nothing is changed. I screenshot everything I said.

I am the holder of a Visa prepaid debit card issued by NetSpend. On 9/6/2015 I went down to the closest check cashing for the purpose of ordering an eBay eCard to that I promised my son. After loading the money onto the card I get online and try ordering the eBay card and I get the message, "credit card declined". I double check that I inputted all the information correctly which it was. I call NetSpend customer service to see what the problem is and it was after business hours so I ended up having to call them back the next day. Later on that part.

In the meantime I called Western Union, the company that NetSpend uses to move the money loaded by a customer onto their card. The first person from Western Union that I speak to tells me that as of sometime last year they no longer accept money loads onto prepaid cards from NetSpend and that I need to go back to the place I loaded the money and talk to them about it. I'm like OK, my receipt says Western Union in big bold letters so that's lie #1. Lucky I'm still at the place I loaded the money. I tell the person that took my money and put it on my card and told them what's going on and they insisted that It's Western Union that I need to talk to. I told them I just got off the phone with them and told them what Western Union told me. They said there's nothing they can do. At this point I'm pissed off because I promised my son something that day and I won't be able to give it to him, and it's not even my fault.

The next day rolls around and I call NetSpend as soon as their customer service opens. The person I talk to tells me that my money was rejected because my account was not active when the money was put on the card. Well why and how could they even take the money if the account was not active and where is my money if it is not on my card? And why wasn't I advised that my account was not active before they took my money? And why was my account placed on inactive status? Ultimately I get off the phone with them and go back down to the place I loaded the money at. I called NetSpend back and let them speak to the customer service person and after speaking to each other and accomplishing nothing, the customer service person that loaded the money wants to speak to someone from Western Union. I furious at this point because I don't take to getting the runaround very well.

Still in the store I get hold of Western Union AGAIN, and now I'm told that yes they still work with Western Union to handle loads on prepaid cards and that yes NetSpend rejected my money because there was something wrong with my account. So where's my money at? The lady found the transaction in her system but that NetSpend didn't send them any kind of message saying that since my account was reactivated whether they accepted the money that was loaded at first. OK this is ridiculous, how do I get my money back? Just cancel the transaction. I'm going to get my money back and cut this card up and never use it again. So the Western Union person put in a request for a refund and that they notified NetSpend was notified that I am requesting a refund and that they are waiting for NetSpend to give Western Union an authorization number so they can proceed to refund my money.

And that's where it stands as of today 9/8/2015. No word from NetSpend or Western Union about refunding my money back. NetSpend was decent when they were first established. Now especially after this experience, I am definitely going to switch companies and find another company to handle my credit card transactions. Also, being that this basically voided my promise I made to my son, NetSpend has definitely lost a customer.

I've had NetSpend for years. I wanted to limit my shopping and it's only enough money that I deposit onto my card. That's one of the reasons why I chose NetSpend. In addition, I don't have to worry about people taking extra money on my account. It's convenient, user-friendly, and inexpensive. I enjoy it but I don't like the monthly fee. I also had two different issues with them. One was an Xbox video game purchase which I didn't make because I don't play it. I tried to dispute it and they went and satisfied that. Another one was one day, I saw three withdrawals which I didn't make. They paid me back for two of them but partially for the third.

It's hard when you dispute something to get them to respond and return your money. The whole process of the dispute is prolonged and a little worrisome. They're also a bit hard to get a hold of sometimes and you're on hold for a long time. It's also hard to understand what the person on the other line is saying. I am not sure if they are from a foreign country. Since the disputes, I've slowed down using it. They issued me another card but I still feel uncomfortable with it because I usually put about 1500 which is a lot of money on my card. One more thing I don't like is if I get my tax money, I have to go to the bank to get over $300 out which is harder as opposed to comfortably going to a bank machine. Nonetheless, I like the direct deposit and the fact that I could use it to pay my bills.

I had direct deposit, paid my bills when I was supposed to and then bought what I had to buy. But then they mucked up a couple of times and they adjusted it. It took me 6 months to get back $300. And a couple of times they told me that they've worked it out where it was not in my favor. So when that kept happening and they were saying I owe money that I don't know what they're talking about, I immediately closed the account. They said they're not going to close the account until I paid the money. Then I went back and opened a different one with the same name and same Social Security number. So they know it was me, but I'm done. If they're the last credit card to go with, I'd rather go without. I'm dissatisfied and it has been a hell of a roller coaster ride.

This company has taken my hard-earned money hostage, and if this problem isn't resolved by the next business day, I'm taking this issue to the Department of Financial Institutions in my state and resolving it legally.

My account was randomly closed by the system after spending a week trying to get it open with customer support. After me giving them all the information they needed, it was randomly closed the day before for no valid reason. I wouldn't recommend using their service due to the reason that they randomly closed my account for no reason after receiving all the needed information.

My husband and I needed a check cashing place to direct deposit so we contacted Netspend. We chose them because we get our deposit a day early. We have other accounts but my husband is not willing to let them go. We have them for 9 years now. Everything has gone perfectly normal. There's only one incident that my husband had when they got a hold of the account number. He had paid for a taxi in New York and then he had gone to Wal-mart in Florida but he has been in this state the whole time. He had his card cancelled and got a new one and had a good experience with the team.

My husband enjoys getting alerts every time his card is run. That's what pulled us to seeing what was going on with his card in New York and Florida. Also, we don't have to pay for cash at the grocery stores for cash back. We use Netspend to pay bills and stuff online and it was perfect. It's a convenient process because I also pay medical bills online or I have automatic withdrawals. I have no problem at all.

I signed up with NetSpend when I cashed my disability check at Ace Cash Service since that’s what they offered there and with NetSpend, I get paid earlier so it makes it quite better. I can’t use it as cash all the time, so it allows me to save some money and it has better protection which is an added benefit. I use it to pay bills online and purchase at stores, and it’s pretty convenient. It’s got a decent amount you can take off at once. I also use the direct deposit option and get paid once a month through the VA. I was also able to talk to their reps to check my balance and it’s always alright and nice.

I always use Ace Check Cashing and I got the NetSpend card from them. This is the reason I am using the card aside from being able put money on it and do direct deposits. It's easier with the NetSpend card since I'm able to use what have in cash at all times. I've used it for online purchases and bills payment and found it to be a very convenient process. Their representative was also very knowledgeable and helpful when I had to call them one time to switching over from the savings to the checking account, since I reached (or just about reached) my limit of transfers from one to the other. I'd recommend NetSpend, this is the choice for those that may have a difficult time opening up a regular bank account.

NetSpend is a great card. They're excellent with locations and getting access to money. They are a big corporation where they have access to a lot of ATMs and you may not even get charged if you go to a certain ATM. When I went online and I was looking for prepaid cards, I saw NetSpend has a bunch of them under different names. I applied for several cards, however, it sounds good when you look at the cards and everything that they are offering. But when they send you the card and you have the opportunity to look at the terms and conditions and the fees, you realize that it is not worth activating it. I never used it because the fees are too high - I don't agree with them.

Their monthly fee is $9.95 just to have the card and then for some cards, they want to charge you every time you use it for a debit purchase and then the credit purchase. Some of the cards have transaction fees so if you use your card five times as a debit in one day, you are going to get charged five fees for that day. It's too much, it's ridiculous. There are better cards out there like American Express and Paypal that charge you no fees.

I went into an ACE store to get a debit card and was told that the system is requiring me to send a picture of my driver's license, social security card, and a letter that was provided to me in order to get my card activated, and that this would take about 6 hours to be done. I provided all of the information and received a confirmation email that advised that there was "nothing else that needed to be done". I waited and waited and never received any feedback, so I contacted the number on the card this morning. Upon doing so, I was notified of a previous balance (that I completely forgot about from 4+ years ago) of $65.00. I was then told that I would have to wait until the following day at the end of business to find out what they were going to do... all while holding $500.00 on my account. I requested to speak with a manager to see if there was a way to expedite this request due to extenuating circumstances.

On 3 different calls, I was told that I would be transferred to a supervisor, only to be left on hold until I was tired of waiting for over 30 minutes. When I finally called back and got a live customer service manager (Cliff), I explained the situation and he basically made it seem that it was my fault for letting the negative balance go for so long. It was also my fault for not calling in, at which point I told him that I was not notified that I needed to call... only to send in the requested documents. He told me that I was being rude and talking over him because I was asking if there was anyone that he could transfer me to. He went on to say that he is the highest level of contact available and I couldn't talk to anyone else aside from himself. I then asked him for his last name and he told me that he didn't have to give me that information.

I informed him that I, too, am a customer service manager and know that he, as the highest contact person available, should provide that information for my records, but he refused saying "you can know what you know, but there is no one else to talk to and I don't have to give you my last name." As a returning customer, I am VERY upset with the level of customer service provided by your toll free number. I have been in customer service for 15 years and would have lost my job for talking to a customer the way he talked to me. I guess that is why he didn't want to give me his last name.

I received an error message stating that my activation could not be processed and given a number to contact customer service. After holding for an extended period of time I was connected with a rep and told that my account had a balance and a request was submitted to clear it so call back tomorrow. I called back when tomorrow came, was told the block was still there and another request was sent so call back tomorrow.

I called back as instructed today to be told the account is still blocked and I would be transferred to the department that handles it. I was on hold for more than 10 minutes after being transferred before I decided to hang up because I was on my lunch break and needed to return to work. Something as simple as card activation has dragged on for 3 days. Each rep was nice but my problem has yet to be resolved. I remember not doing business with Netspend before due to service related issues. I guess I will call back after work and hope for the best. Not to mention that I was able to use the Walgreens kiosk perfectly fine for money transfer transactions with Western Union before they mandated having an account.

So I thought I'll just try it and then I've always loved it. I never had a problem. I don't have to worry about checking account or overdraft fees - wonderful. It's very convenient to pay bills and purchase online. Also, all of the reload locations are less than 2 miles.

Yesterday, I tried logging in to print out a direct deposit form but my account was locked. It said to call a number and so I called. While waiting, I went on my laptop and was able to unlock it myself by getting a new password or by resetting my password and it was very easy. When the rep picked up, he was very polite and told him I've already resolved the issue. Everybody should use NetSpend.

Days later, they've put a freeze on my old card, my new card, and they've even locked me out of logging into their website! Yikes! It'll be alright. I'll clear this up with Customer Service.

An email was ignored. Four separate attempts to reach them by phone have failed. If you're considering NetSpend, please know this. Based on my experience, there is NO POSSIBILITY that they will actually answer the phone. They seem to be systematically under-staffed. You are allowed to ask for a call back. In the worst of the four requests, they actually returned my call 20 hours after I requested a return "as soon as possible" (their words).

The other option is for you to specify a time they call you back. I specified 3:15PM, and they agreed (their computer, I should say). And when did that call come? 5:15PM! Lastly, don't be disappointed -- if you ever DO get to speak to customer service -- if it does not sound like you are speaking to an American. If you're on a "banking blacklist," settle-up so you can use a real bank. In my experience, this does not feel like a real bank.

I've used the card for all kind of stuff: online shopping, grocery store purchases, hotel bookings, and car rentals. I usually do direct deposit on the card. Most of my interaction with their team are done online, although I've had to call their Customer Service a couple of times because I forgot my password.

I have referred a couple of people to them. However, the only thing I don't like about NetSpend is their ATM withdrawal fees. They don't have an understanding with any banks nor have any ATMs to withdraw from, so I spend a lot or money on these fees - about $15-$20 a month. They have also limited my withdrawal to a small amount, so if I need to take out $400, I have to make two withdrawals and they get $10 in fees. I've been thinking about switching to bank-to-bank in order to avoid that because I'm on Social Security and the withdrawal fees are just too much.

I've been using NetSpend since 2005. When I first saw it, I said this is good because I didn't have to worry about getting overdraft. However, they always have a $5 monthly membership fee which is better though because banks charge more maintenance like $8-10 if you have that minimum balance. I just wish if you have direct deposit, it should have been free. Also, there were some charges that I tried to dispute but it takes longer, way back 5 years ago. But currently, I don't see any problems at all. It's fine and I have no problems withdrawing money. It accepts worldwide and the direct deposit shows in a couple of hours. They're excellent because you can control your spending.

    Original Review: Aug. 23, 2015

I have two pending overdraft fees that customer service hasn't removed after more than an hour on the phone with 2 different reps. It's very simple and shouldn't take more than 2 minutes to understand. Easy, quick summary here and I will attach screenshots needed. I stayed at a Hyatt Hotel and they placed a 15 dollar hold on my account for incidentals. That's standard and I understand. After the stay I talked to Netspend email and they removed. I will say your email team always is very helpful and better than the phone customer service. My account never posted negative at any time. I understand the two pending overdraft fees being generated due to a 50.00 dollar charge on August 21 @10:10 pm and a 1.00 charge on August 22 @ 4:12 am. On August 22 at 4:25pm the email team removed the hold of 15 from Hyatt, therefore my account is no longer negative in any way.

It was done within 24 hours of the overdraft charges which is the rule which I find irrelevant in this case anyway since this wasn't a posted charge. I'm not sure what is so hard to understand. The two agents I spoke to aren't listening. They are being combative and acting like it's some competition and are saying the same thing over and over about the account went negative and needed to add money.

I explain an easy way to figure this out in 1 minute is to look at my posted balances. At no point am I negative which I will attach. I have 2 pending merchant charges of 103.50 totaling 207. You can clearly see my available balance is 208.35. Therefore I'm in a positive balance. The agent says, "No, you have 237 in charges because they are adding the 30 dollars in overdraft fees." I explain if my balance is currently positive without the overdraft fees and I've never added more money... How do I owe any fees? I find this very simple and can't believe I have to go through all this over 2 fees that shouldn't be there. I've been with Netspend for about 8 years and I've only had one other major issue. I had to post on here to get help previously, but I got it taken care of promptly when I did.

I got fed up with my banks since they were charging me for everything and letting me overspend then charge me for it. So I tried NetSpend and it works for me. I've been with them for almost 20 years and I stayed with them because they were the first one out there and they were good for me...until recently. My NetSpend card has been hacked 3 times in the last 2 months. The first 2 times, NetSpend took almost a month to get my money back to me, which is distasteful because these people have taken my entire paycheck. Having to wait another month for your paycheck and getting three when you get the money back throws things into disarray.

They sent me a letter saying that they found out it wasn't my fault and I did get the money back. However my problem is I don't know how it gets hacked that many times. Nobody called me with the result of the investigation and I could not talk to anybody in the investigation team. I am putting both checks from my 2 jobs through NetSpend - one I deposit myself on NetSpend, the other, a direct deposit. The direct deposit is the one that's always getting hacked - every time on my payday, within 3 hours of my paycheck shipment. On the third hacking incident, I found out that the hackers were spending my money in a matter of 10-15 minutes increment.

Luckily in some instances, like with that merchant in California, the order has not gone out yet and they were able to cancel it and refund my money. When I called a company in Philadelphia however, the order had already gone out and they advised me to file a police report. I never took the time to do that and I really should have, even though I filed a report with NetSpend.

I cannot afford to use NetSpend anymore because it's obvious that their security is not what it used to be, and hackers are more sophisticated now. I can't afford to wait a month on my paycheck and I'm not going to chase down the merchants every time somebody hacked my card, hoping and praying I get my money back. I'm too old for that. I also don't have conversation with their people about my experience, instead they text me. (I'm not a good texter and I believe in talking to people.) Also, NetSpend and Western Union fell out so we couldn't send anymore payments to NetSpend via Western Union. I've been a loyal NetSpend customer but I have to let them go, whereas 8 months ago I would've given them a standing ovation.

The representative assured me that my name was spelled correctly and I was enrolled in the Premier Advantage plan. I proceeded to call and spoke with a representative and I informed him that I spoke with a representative and was told that I was enrolled in the Premier Advantage plan which is $5 a month. He told me that that's not how the call went and he was not able to pull the recorded call. I've been asked to speak to a supervisor who was very rude and told me he will go ahead and charge my account an additional $5 for the Premier Advantage plan that I was already supposed to be enrolled in, and that he was not going to refund the remaining fees. I requested to speak to his supervisor and he said there was no one else above him. I also requested corporate phone number. He refused to provide that to me. The representative assured me that a representative from corporate would give me a call but I have yet to receive a call a week later. Got card for my daughter to use for emergencies. Tried to reload card to transfer funds to my daughter, everything looked fine until I actually tried to transfer funds. NetSpend asked that I go into my bank account and verify the amount of money that had been taken out for verification purposes ($0.47). I verified the amount and proceeded to make the transfer. The minute I hit submit, it put transaction on hold and asked that I contact Customer Service. I figured, no big deal. However, it was a big deal. They informed me my debit card is not accepted and did I have another card...yes, I multiple debit cards...right.

When I told them, "no, this is my only debit card," they said I could use another method of transfer. Unfortunately, they didn't understand that the reason for instant transfer was that it was an EMERGENCY, all other transfer methods take much longer. They could have cared less and at the same time, they made me feel like I was a criminal. I decided to let them know they had just lost a customer and that I was going to take care of my emergency...thank you Western Union!!!

After emergency was taken care of, unfortunately had to pay an $11.49 service fee (no thank you Netspend), I remember the verification funds they had taken out of the so-called "unacceptable" debit card (I guess not unacceptable enough). I was so angry, they should have transferred that back!!! When I called, the individual on the phone told me that I had not lost the $0.47, they were in my account. Ok, so my daughter should hold on to card so that when she has a purchase that approximates that amount, she can pull it out and remember how if it wasn't for Western Union, she would have been stranded with the $0.47 in her NetSpend account. THANKS for your concern...they could not even give a reason.

So here is what I think this company does: they pull this crap on consumers, and although $0.47 is not a big deal on an individual basis, if they do this to just say to 100 consumers, it's $47, 1,000 consumers $470 and a 1 million consumers it approximated half a million dollars. This is a despicable scam. Most people won't think about the $0.47 cents on that account and will get ticked off and trash the card, never to think of it again!!! So where do these unclaimed funds go? Not the unsuspecting consumer bank accounts, that for sure!!! Sadder still is the fact that the $0.47 verification funds is not standard, they can withdraw up to $1.00!

The worse part is that these types of cards are typically targeted at either students, and/or low income people that don't have traditional credit cards or debit cards. They are preying on vulnerable populations, and can care less. My recommendation is stay clear of this company. They made no effort to understand situation or to explain why my card was not being accepted. My response, you just lost a customer that will spread the word about your questionable, if not, unethical practices.

All of sudden last evening we got a text message that there might be a problem with our card and we needed to call customer service. I called and after waiting on hold for over 30 minutes I was told our account was being closed due to fraudulent activity. Our cards had been blocked and we have no access to money in the account. No success last night. They told me it would be at least 20 business days to get a check for what is in the account.

A person out of the corporate resolution team called me this morning with the same excuse, same timeframe. Told him that was unacceptable and he needed to escalate this. He called me back. I was on another call and put him on hold. He hung up after waiting not even 30 seconds and has not returned the phone call. I got an email stating they had escalated and it would be 2 weeks. That still is not acceptable. All of the money that I have it tied to this card along with mine and my husband's direct deposit for years. I am very frustrated we did not get a phone call letting us know what was going on and even more so that they can just hold hundreds of dollars of someone else's money. On July 31, I receive an reimbursement payment from my employer which was deposited to my account. On August 1st I tried logging in to my account and it was blocked. I contacted customer service to find out why my account was blocked and I was told that the payment received was suspicious so I was told to send in proof (receipt) from my employer regarding this payment. I emailed a copy of the receipt as requested, but was told by customer service that the document was too dark. I explained to them that this receipt was forwarded to me from the corporate office and that I could clearly see the details of the reimbursement amount.

I told to resend the document which I did, but I keep getting the run around that they cannot read the information. On August 6th, my direct deposit from my employer was deposited to my account and I still haven't been able to access my funds. I am behind on my rent and car note, because this company refuses to accept the reimbursement payment received on the July 31st. Also, I explained to them that I have had several reimbursement payments from my employer deposited on my account and my account has never been blocked before. I am disgusted at the business practices of this company.

Thank you so very much for releasing my money and for assuring me that it is not your intent or position to make me feel like you don't care.

In the past 3 days you have treated me and this issue the way anyone would expect. If it had been treated this way in the beginning, I would still be banking with you and telling everyone I know great things about you. I believe you when you say you will review this matter and make adjustments accordingly.

Thank you for getting this handled and so quickly and professionally. In 10 minutes you returned my fraudulent charge to my account and released my funds for me to transfer over to Wells Fargo, along with tons of apologies and heartfelt regret. I think it was noble and honorable. I have tons of respect for you for doing this.

    Original Review: Aug. 7, 2015

I discovered a fraudulent charge on my card made at a Walmart out of state. I called NetSpend to report the pending charge. They told me I needed to cancel my card immediately. The problem with that is that they then ordered me a new card which I'm expecting within 7-10 business days. All of my money is in that account. I have no access to my money because as you all know, there is no physical bank. I ended up calling several times to NetSpend but they offered no resolution to my dilemma.

I ended up calling MetaBank (the owners of NetSpend) and they told me NetSpend could easily have overnighted the card if they chose. I have a Wells Fargo account now, and now I'm fighting with NetSpend to transfer my account over to my WF account. They are refusing to do it. They offer to mail me a check in 20+ business days. The relationship was great for 7 months, but now they are showing their true selves. I will never use NetSpend again and am really disappointed that they cannot show a bit of professionalism. Don't use NetSpend if you expect them to be on your side and work with you when problems occur.

I promptly put in my dispute which in the terms state within ten business days a credit will be given. Then I get an update that says they have until September 11th. The amount was 200 which at this point I really need. It's pretty deceptive to tell your customers one thing and do another. This will definitely cause me to make bigger purchases on another card that is more secure when it comes to my purchases.

I have also discovered that you could transfer from account to account for $1 less which is an added benefit. What I don't like about it is if you have direct deposit, it will charge you $5. But other than that, overall, it's been a good card. The customer service is really good and helpful as opposed to other credit card or prepaid companies. I purchased a pre-paid debit card from a local grocery store and tried to activate it via phone. First red flag was when it asked for my SSN and other personal identifiers. I have NEVER been asked to provide this information for a pre-paid card before. This company cannot cite the Federal statute and code that "mandates the collection of social security and personal information" for the purpose of activating a pre-paid debit card that does not link to credit nor to banking accounts.

Called Customer Service to activate and only choices are call back whenever, schedule a callback or check website. I scheduled a call and spoke with a representative with an Asian accent, who could only read a script and got upset when I suggested that it was suspicious to request SSN information, that the only reason to collect that would be to sell my information fraudulently or sign me up for credit that I didn't want. She then tried to say that it was multinational financing laws that require personal info, but couldn't cite which.

I asked to speak to a supervisor and he quoted the same non-sense at me, got very angry when I said to stop reading a script at me and cite the law that requires the collection of personal info, again could not. And when I asked where he was located, he said the company is in Austin, TX but would not say where HE was physically located - I suspect overseas. He said the "the law says I'm not at liberty to disclose our location" - again, couldn't cite the "law". When I said that I suspected the company was committing fraud, and I was going to report it, his response was "go ahead, lose your money". Next, he hung up. His company has NO LEGITIMACY AND IS HIGHLY SUSPECT!

And nine out of ten times, their customer service has been very helpful, and I've never had a problem. It's just that one time where he sits there and said, "Just a minute," then I sit on the phone for about six minutes, and I'm a very impatient old man. I bought this card for my daughter to take to camp for purchases. We weren't able to activate the card online and called the number numerous times. It just goes to a recording that says that there are heavy call volumes and there are only three options: get a callback, leave a different number for a callback, or hang up. You don't even have the choice to hold for a representative.

I waited for two days for a callback and still have not received one. I finally found another customer service number online after researching. I called that number and got through to someone. I explained the situation and the person stated that they needed to talk to my daughter to get permission to talk to me. My daughter is 14 years old and is 500 miles away. I'm the one who purchased the card. After asking to speak to a supervisor 6 times, the person placed me on hold never to return. I hung up and called back. The next person I talked to said that the card couldn't be activated because my daughter is a minor. What difference does that make when you already have my money? They said that I needed to send a birth certificate and social security card. Screw that! I guess you can keep my two hundred dollars. You're not getting my personal info, too.

My card was hacked a year ago during a breach with Home Depot. NetSpend notified me and sent me a new card and my old card was supposed to be cancelled. I noticed on two different occasions that the card was still active so I called customer service and attempted to speak to the customer service. I say attempt because the only English they seem to speak is what is written on their script. Well here we are a year later and the card that was supposedly cancelled get used in Brazil about 7 times within 15 min and took $700 dollars. I immediately called when I got the text alerts and told them not to approve the transactions which were still pending.

Again the lack of understanding English was a huge barrier and three different customer service reps told me different things. I finally got someone from corporate to call me back three days later and she stated since this was clearly their fault my money would be credited by the end of business. Here we are three days later, I am unable to talk to the corporate office, my money is no longer pending but paid to the company in Brazil, and now they are telling me it can take up to 60 days to see my money.

This is outrageous. Never have I had such difficulty when a company clearly dropped the ball. Now my mortgage is going to be late and I have no idea when I will see my money. They refuse to allow me to speak to an American. I will be contacting an attorney tomorrow to see what my legal rights are. Total I have spent over 5 hours on the phone and all I get is some foreigner reading off a script. This card will be cancelled as soon as and if I ever get my funds back. They have lost a loyal customer.

At the time I had to have something to direct deposit to and I didn’t have a bank account and because it was free I tried it and I liked it a lot. The details of my transactions were well-detailed. You can tell what card made the transaction. Sometimes it tells you where or gives you a specific number so if there’s something that comes up that you’re not sure of, it’s easier to figure out where that charge came from.

Using it to pay my bills and buy stuff online has been really convenient for me and for the most part, like if you need a replacement card, customer service is okay. However I have noticed that if you’re disputing a transaction, they kinda get snippy.

Don't waste time with this card to many fees. They even charge you for buying out the store. And they have poor customer service. They don't speak English that well. This is a piece of ** for a card. Green Dot is a better card.

What's awesome about NetSpend is that (1) every time I spent money, I get a text from them. It tells me what my balance is. (2) It has a feature that prevents me from getting NSF fees attached to my account by not letting me spend money I ain't got (e.g. I got $7 in the account and I need to buy something for $10 I’m not going to be allowed to buy that). (3) To reload money in my account, I can go to one of their reload locations nearby or I can reload with Western Union although it costs a little bit more. (4) NetSpend offers customized cards where you can pretty much do your own graphic on it. I purchased one of those and that definitely caught some attention.

I’ve been a NetSpend customer since 2008 and in those seven years, I've had only one unpleasant experience and it was so minor that it wasn't anything that I would remember and cost them my business so I have been pretty happy with it. In fact I'd like to be able to refer NetSpend services to others. I just don’t know if the mechanism exists. I’m not really looking for any reward but I’m that impressed with the service and possibilities I’m going to have to talk to somebody at NetSpend about the possibility of it.

I had disputes that I filed because of unauthorized usage and charges on my card and a few days after I placed the disputes they "closed" my account. I was only informed of the blocking of the card which would have been fine and I would have been okay, because they said I would be able to get a new one. They then go to inform me even though I was in the process of disputes that I have no access to my past transaction history or any account access due to them closing my account. So no problem - at first it was understood that it was the specific type of card I had. Now after I loaded a new card they tell me it's NetSpend that pretty much Blacklisted me from using any of their prepaid products. This is beyond ridiculous because I can't get through to them to speak with them about this issue. And then my money gets locked up not once but twice because of the lack of information they provide about what is going on.

Then I told them the transactions weren't my transactions and it took them about a week-and-a-half to get my money back. By the time I had a lot of cancellations going on. They have poor customer service. They can't understand what you're saying and their attitude is kind of firm when you ask to speak to somebody in charge.

I have had my card almost a year. Today I went out of town and tried to use my card to get gas to get home. It was declined at the register and the ATM. Because I didn't have cash I had to beg someone to help me get home to Virginia. After getting home I called NetSpend and they told me the card was cancelled for suspicious activity. I told them they could have called me to verify it was me. Then they said that they could not reactivate the card. They had to send me another card and it would take two days. Needless to say I don't want anything to do with NetSpend because they almost had me and my kids stranded in Pennsylvania.

I've never been able to use the cashback from purchases because the stores that they chose to get cashback from aren't mostly that I use, I wish there was a bigger option there. Some interactions with the customer service were very good. Other times, I'm just very disgusted and disappointed because they tell me what they think I want to hear to get me off the phone. Then I'd have to call back later and someone else tells me something completely different. I'm dissatisfied.

I received an e-mail survey yesterday from NetSpend asking for my experience using their card. I have never requested a card, never received one, and have recently moved. I had never heard of NetSpend until I received the e-mail. I e-mailed the company to ask if the email was legitimate, what address they sent the supposed card to, and how they are able to create a card in my name without my authorization. I received a response stating that a "partner" had felt that I would "benefit" from the card and because of security reasons, cannot tell me where the card was sent. I was instructed to call the toll free number which I did from out of country. I am trying to get through to someone to find out what needs to be done to make sure that the card is not used and whatever associated account is deleted and do not appreciate having to go through this hassle during an international move and trying to rectify this from abroad.

I sent a follow up e-mail asking for the name of the company that shared my information with NetSpend so I could let them know how that decision negatively affected me and was not appreciated. I read online that other people have received unrequested cards from NetSpend. I don't understand how it is a good business practice (and feel that it should not be allowed), both security-wise and customer service-wise, to send cards to people who never requested them and have absolutely no interest in having one. I also do not think it is right to place the burden of ensuring that unrequested cards are dealt with safely on the consumer. I am still trying to resolve this situation and hope that NetSpend will consider ceasing the practice of sending cards to people who did not request them.

I've been using NetSpend for five years. And I really have enjoyed their service. I use NetSpend as my only debit/credit card. It has been a godsend in that respect because I can use it as a credit card and order things online. And the check center that represents them where I have my account is very customer service oriented and I really like them. The other thing is if I ever am short, they have a payday loan and because I have an automatic deposit, I'm able to get a cash advance if I need it.

Everything's been great and then as of a week ago, I started this nightmare because I was renewing my subscription to Norton security on my computer and my social security check came in a couple of days later then it said it normally would. So my Norton Security did not automatically renew on the day that it was supposed to. So I had to go in and start. Norton sent me an email. I went in and tried to update my profile and the subscription of my security on my computer. I went online to find a customer service number for Norton because I was at that point I had spent about 30 or 40 minutes trying to do it myself.

What I did is when I went online to offer the number of IT technology Norton security phone numbers, I picked out unknowingly a technician who was representing himself as a Norton technician and he wasn't. So I got this guy into my computer and he put all this crap in my computer, ripped me off money-wise, he knew my everything. And what was really weird was that it didn't feel right. I wasn't thinking clearly. I just wanted it done.

He was on my computer for a while. He said, "I have to reinstall the updated version. I need access to your computer." So everything seemed normal. So that night I changed my password on my computer. He had left something on my desktop. I put that in the trash bin. And also at that same exact day - And then he sent me an email saying "did you authorize this $89.99, call it $90 for your Norton security renewal?" And I had to write back to him, "okay it was my email" which again should've been weird but coincidentally the Norton renewal subscription automatically went through that same day that this guy did the service.

So 2 days later, I checked my NetSpend account because that's where all my money is. I saw an extra charge from this guy who was also billing me. He called himself IT Technology. So this did turn into a NetSpend incident because now I'm coming to the part where I was not happy with NetSpend's service because first of all when I called NetSpend, I told tehir rep what happened and I said, "You need to remove this because this guy went into my computer and ripped me off and I'm disputing this. This is not an authorized fee."

So the representative from NetSpend agreed with me. He withdrew and declined the $90. And I saw that was okay. So two days ago, I go back into my account and I see that his $90 was in fact acknowledged and paid to him. So when I called NetSpend, they let me know that this representative - they apologized and said, "I'm sorry this representative was not telling you the correct information. And if you want to get your $90 back, now you have to go into this dispute mode" which they sent me the directions for that. Well, that's what bothered me is because 3 days after that, they pushed through this $90 for this guy after I blocked the card. And I would have followed through and done something different if I could have. But it's just been like a week of hell. So normally experience is 90% satisfied with NetSpend all the time. Overall I definitely recommend them and I have and I still would.

NetSpend stopped me from using a gift card that I received from a friend and then a few months later the balance was zero. Their customer service tried to solve it by explaining that I just have to lose the money. Requested a supervisor and put on hold for ridiculous amount of time and never came back to talk to me. I called again and same situation. I was for an hour over the phone with customer service and only a few minutes were of useless help and the rest of useless waiting. VERY DISAPPOINTED. Would never recommend this company to anyone. NetSpend stole all the money from my gift card that was blocked for use and then start to charge me monthly for not using it.

And on top of everything, it was a nightmare to previously activate the card. Went online before to solve this situation with no results because their website is useless and will block you for sign in after a couple of uses. This company has a very sweet business set up for scamming people on gift cards. Too bad NetSpend, you didn't refund a small amount of money you stole, and because of that, you gained someone that will talk bad of your business forever. Scammers!!! Never buy a visa gift card from them! You or the person receiving the gift card will deeply regret it.
