I had my card stolen and multiple charges put on it within a few days resulting in over $500 in charges. I have been going back and forth with the customer service department and no one can give me a status update! I keep requesting to speak to someone in the dispute department and apparently they don't have any way whatsoever on getting in contact with them. I even spoke to a supervisor who said he was going to contact them for me and ask them to contact me but still I haven't heard anything. My account was overdrawn $100 and I kept telling them that my direct deposit was coming in and I couldn't afford to lose any more money but they were completely unconcerned with my problem. I will never use them again as soon as I get all my money back!!
Dear Lisa,
We appreciate you for giving us the opportunity to assist you with your dispute.
Hopefully, you should not run into another issue like this again in the future.
Thank you,

I’ve been with NetSpend for around 15-20 years. I’m 65 years old, and I’m a real busy man. I’m in the insurance business and got several cards. Many times I use a card for this and a card for that and then I got a personal card. At times, I needed to know about a transfer on a card that was outdated, whether everything was transferred and in which card it went to. NetSpend has always helped me every time I call. It’s like a secretary that takes care of my business when I got my hands on a lot of things, and I don’t have to worry because I know everything is all right. I know my business is taken care of.
NetSpend is a lifesaver. They make life easy for me. They just keep doing what they do, and I like what they do for me. Nothing to complain about.

I signed up for Netspend back in 2009 and they always sent my paycheck one day early. Now I signed up for a new card for my government benefits and they send my check 1 week EARLY! I didn't even know the funds were available. Why wait until the 1st of the month when you can get your money this early? I have proof they sent my government check 1 week early... This far exceeds any prepaid card I've known. Netspend has great customer service too. 9.95 is a small price to pay for getting your funds this early.

I love NetSpend better than I love my bank account. It's simple, efficient, easy, trustworthy and awesome! I use it to make purchases online, to buy or pay everywhere. I can pay bills. I can use it as a bank account. I can have money transferred directly to my ACE, which I do. I use it a lot like the way you use your bank account, and I do have two other bank accounts. There are no surprise charges ever. You pay one fee once month, you're covered and you're good. The nice thing that I like about it is there are no overdrafts and so no overcharge.
With banks, sometimes if you have a couple of cents missing in the account, they charge you for that. NetSpend will never do that. In fact, a couple of times it happened that I didn't have enough money in my NetSpend and NetSpend covered my payment, which is unheard of; the bank wouldn't do that. If they do, they'd charge you. It's easy to use the deposit to all the big grocery markets. I just go to the market, whatever market I go to, like Safeway, and I use Safeway to upload money if I need to. Whenever I have a problem, they took care of it right away. Pretty good customer service too.

I have been a NetSpend cardholder for several years. Having this account is convenient and beneficial in many ways. I've taken advantage of multiple discounts over the years as well as the savings plan. Having more than one card allowed me to send money to my son when he was out of state with no problems whatsoever. I always know my balance and do not overspend. I highly recommend netSpend to anyone!

I got a netSpend card because I play games online. Instead of using a real credit card, where I didn't want unnecessary charges, I bought a prepaid one. I went into a Money Box to cash a check and I saw the card there. I asked the girl about it and she told me a little bit about it and gave me a Money Box card and then from there it went on. I've been a member since ’07. Since then I do direct deposit and the life benefits. It works for me than to have to go to a bank or use a real credit card. I’m able to use that card anywhere. I use it more for when I go on trips or conferences and I don’t want to carry a bunch of cash. I just load it on to my netSpend card. Also, I have friends who ask me for money, and I can tell them, “I don’t have any cash.”

My husband had a NetSpend before I did. I got it because I thought it was the easy way to have a card that I can use instead of actually having to have credit card charges. It helped me manage my finances better sometimes, not always. I'm often transferring money from my husband's account to mine, because he has his automatically deposited, and transferring money was very easy. It's also been useful when we've been traveling and had to do hotels or something. I would think it'd probably be one of the best things. I can use it as a credit card when I need to book something and I don't have to worry about paying my monthly payment. And when my card once got compromised, they reacted very quickly. They were really good.

I’m one of the original netSpend customers from whenever it was first rolled out. I manage my stuff better because I can access it online all the time. I can transfer money back and forth between the accounts, and my checks usually go a little bit early with direct deposit. It’s one of the best aspects of it that I really like. The main safety benefit I get from it is the virtual card. It’s one of the best features because I shop online quite a bit on eBay and Amazon, and I don’t give them my credit card number, but with the virtual card I can do that. I also have my check go to direct deposit. It’s an easy process because the form is already online. You just log in to the website and you go to direct deposit and print the form out and pre-populate. That’s about as simple as it gets.
I've recommended netSpend to several people. But as far as rating their customer experience, that’s not too good. The interactions that I have with the team are not quite so good though. The security process that they have where they ask you random questions on the security process, but instead of it being information that the customer chooses, netSpend chose to use information from public records, which are often inaccurate. So when they ask you, “Which of these four streets is closest to you?” you have no earthly idea where those streets are. You end up locked out of your own information. So that’s been a very frustrating part of it. Another interaction is they've changed with the customer service and they've gone to a scripting method. They follow a script to the T and if you deviate in your answer to the questions, it’s just like talking to a robot. If you ask something that’s not in the script, then it does not compute. So that’s extremely frustrating.

I have been dealing with NetSpend for quite a few years now. Since using NetSpend, I was able to better handle my finances. It has been useful in getting my direct deposit and getting my money early. It's very easy; I don't have to do anything. One of the safety benefits that I have experienced with NetSpend would be the text alerts whenever my card is used. The interactions that I had with NetSpend's team are good. The few times that I've had to call for any situation were good. The only thing that I could say is that it's hard to understand the accent of the operators handling the call.
Overall, I am completely satisfied. I would highly recommend them.

After reading through some of these reviews, I see that a lot of us are having the same issue. It seems that any check that is deposited by the US Treasury just isn't going to make it into your account for some illegal reason. I am a disabled vet and receive service connection due to injuries that I received while serving. Every one of the checks that was deposited into that account had to be traced. EVERY ONE!!! I rely on that money as I am not able to work and I never know when I am going to receive it, making paying bills and rent agony.
I switched banks to Chase and have not had a problem since. I also am one of the lucky guys that seems to have the case of the disappearing income tax refund that cost me 30 dollars to just be stolen. Customer service is useless. Supervisors are useless. I am calling up the Veterans Affairs regional office today and have them investigated. Once the news hears about disabled vets not being able to pay their rent, especially with all the things going on with the VA now...we may get our money. I am only keeping the damned account open, because, as usual, I am having another check traced from March 1st. Who knows when I'll get it. I just wish everybody the best in getting their money and I'm telling everyone I know to stay away from these thieves.

I was leaving California to come home. I had a large sum of money but I wasn't sure what banks were in Oregon that it would be easy to access money. So I went looking for just like a prepaid card that I could put cash on so I didn't have to carry cash around, and they recommended NetSpend card. I like the email alert as soon as you use it. I use their direct deposit more frequently and the process is easy. I’ve been at about three or four different jobs and I’ve just always been in my direct deposit thing and that’s great. I did have to use the reload thing a couple of weeks ago at 7-Eleven and that was great, too.
The only thing I don't like is now I can't do my phone transfers which is one of the main reasons I got it. I was able to just send people money via text. And for some reason, that's not working now. They say it's working but it hasn't been working for a while now for me. So something I have been used to since 04 just recently changed for me in the last year and it's kind of a pain in the butt. But other than that, it's great. My daughter has one. All my friends that I have to swap money around, we all have them now.

I've been with NetSpend for a long time. It was way back in 2004. I use it for the same way I've always used it. Up until recently, if I went over $2 or $3 up to $10, I had no problem whatsoever in going to the negative as long as it was under $10 because they've had me on direct deposit since 2004. But since November, I've been having a problem where it won't even allow you 22 cents over. I've called and they said there's no problem with my card, but it is. It is a problem and I've tried to resolve it many times and I get nowhere.
Dear Ulrica,
We appreciate you for being a loyal cardholder for so many years!
We certainly understand your concern regarding the ability to take your account balance negative.
The ability to overdraw is dependent on many factors and we would not be able to tell you ahead of time if our system will allow it. If your transaction is approved, we let it go through as a courtesy.
We hope the problems you have experienced will not bear any reflection on our company and the services we provide.
Thank you,

I found out about netSpend through an Ace Check-Cashing place in 2005. I went in there and there was something about prepaid services; I was interested in that and I've been with them ever since. I use both the reload locations and the direct deposit. Being a member has helped me manage my finances better. It’s good because it doesn't let me overdraw an account and I have my savings set up. Also, if there’s a problem, they alert you or text you. The text messaging lets you know what’s going on. Lastly, for the netSpend team, I didn't have any problems interacting with them.

My account was compromised, closed & monies have been withdrawn... netSpend is telling me that they sent it back to the IRS but in fact, they have not. They refuse to give me any information where my money went besides the IRS. I spoke to the IRS 3 times & they have not received any monies on my behalf. NetSpend has giving me numerous stories as to why my money was taken out. I have not received anything from netSpend in writing about this matter.
First they said the IRS closed my account & took the money due to 2 deposits that was deposited in my account in 2013 & that my account was fraudulent. The next thing was the IRS told them to close my account & they sent the monies back on May 22, 2014 & the IRS received it on June 11, 2014. Again, I have spoken to the IRS & they have no money on my behalf, nor have they taken any monies from me, nor do they know anything about this situation. I have been with netSpend about 5-6 years & I have never had this problem. I allowed my aunt to receive her federal taxes in my account & she received her money. I didn’t authorize a state to be deposited & neither did she. In fact she is suing the tax preparer for her state income tax because it went to her account.
I have no idea where my money is. NetSpend isn't allowing me to speak with the fraud department. I have reasons to believe somebody with my information has used my identity to call netSpend & use my account without my knowledge & also used the identity of an IRS agent to have my account closed & monies transferred out. I also called Bancorp & they have no account on file for me. Where is my money? I trusted netSpend with my money & I have been robbed with a non-logical explanation or any info that can help me obtain my monies back. Also my account being reported by an anonymous persons claiming to be the IRS. NetSpend is suppose to secure my account & monies & they have not. SMFH I'M NEVER PUTTING MY MONEY ON A PREPAID CARD AGAIN.

It all started yesterday after I made a purchase my account. Cards were blocked and I was told I need to call customer service. So, I called and not a single person could tell me why I have a block on my account and now I'm stuck without any money when I'm leaving the state I'm in tomorrow. My issue was never resolved as all I got from everyone is that there's nothing they can do, after speaking with 3 different people including a supervisor. The first person I spoke with, didn't have a clue about a thing going on and literally had me on hold the whole conversation without even asking me or telling me, then proceeded to transfer me to someone else mid-sentence.
The second person I spoke with, told me straight out he had no idea what was going on with my account same with the supervisor, so now after my wife putting her paycheck on the card, I now have no money and no idea why my account got blocked when I had just made a purchase an hour before that. Then the kicker is the fact that my account is in the positive but I received a balance alert and email stating that my account is overdrawn and I now have an overdraft fee on my account. The email went on to state that I'm overdrawn the amount that is in my account right now. This is horrible customer service, that you block someone's account for no reason, then provided no information when it's your system that tells you to call in to get it fixed. I will make sure I get a hold of a lawyer about this matter if I miss my flight due to not having any money to make it to the airport, as this whole fiasco would cause me to lose money on the plane tickets I bought.

In trying to do that, I was notified that Netspend doesn't have the text alert transfer feature anymore and to transfer online you need a card number (which is blocked until my new one arrives). Oh and they were closed when I tried to call and transfer. So in not being able to get to MY money, I could not pay for my daughter's asthma medicine and also ran out of gas trying to go and borrow from a family member to pay for my daughter's meds...
So I will be leaving Netspend due to the fact that if they are going to cancel something like transfer alerts, we should be notified... Also there should be a way that you can access your account over the phone. Even though my card was compromised, I should still have access to my account.

I purchased a reload pack for this company's prepaid debit card by mistake last week, and decided to order a card because I was given the option to either do so or just be out $40. I think I would have been better off kissing my money goodbye. This company is a joke. The customer service department blatantly lied to me on 2 separate occasions, first telling me I could get a refund of the money spent on the reload pack, and then telling me the card would ship overnight after a different customer service rep told me there was no possible way to get my money back. Also now that I have received my card, the fees are astronomical, $2 per debit purchase and $1 for credit! I have had a greendot card for years and have never once had to pay money to spend my money AFTER paying a fee to load that money onto the card in the first place. Paypal should be ashamed to have their name associated with this company, especially when they have had such success with other, more reputable prepaid companies for so long in the past. This company and product are an absolute joke. Avoid the netspend brand at all costs!

There have been a couple of times that somebody has got a hold of the number and tried to use it, but they couldn't because I didn't have any money in that account. I believe when NetSpend first came out, I saw it advertised. I decided to get in contact with them because I like the products and the services that they were trying to offer. I chose NetSpend over a different prepaid debit card provider because it’s local.
I use the NetSpend direct deposit option frequently. The process is very easy. I’ve been doing the direct deposit since I opened the account and have been able to manage my finances better since using my NetSpend card. One time I needed to make a payment and I couldn’t make the payment in person, and the services were going to be disconnected. But because I had the NetSpend card, I was able to go and put money on the card and make the payment immediately to alleviate the problem.
I also appreciate their commitment to customer service and like the fact that it’s not tied to a credit so the only funds that could be tampered with are what’s currently on the card. I had an issue with some fraud on the account where somebody used it and I was currently traveling. NetSpend approved the purchases that I needed to make based on what was going on. They helped me before the whole situation was resolved.

I got a card with $500 in April of 2013 and just over one year later (6/2014) I have $44.30 in fees. That is almost 10%. $23.80 was for inactive months, which is ludicrous (i.e. $5.95/mth maintenance fee) but there is also a $1 or $2 fee on every transaction and $0.50 to check your balance on the phone. This is not acceptable. Find a bank or credit union and get an account where they won't take 10% of your money! Also, you cannot remove money from this card except to another netSpend account, which perpetuates this cycle of unacceptable fees. Unless you have money to waste on Netspend fees, I recommend that you do not use this card! !

NetSpend allows flexibility for a lot of different types of individuals and it has helped me manage my finances better. The virtual account is useful for doing online purchases. I get money into my card through reloading and direct deposit and it’s all straightforward and pretty easy.

I own a Netspend MasterCard and regularly reload it with various types of reload packs. Two weeks ago, I purchased a "Netspend Reload" pack from a Walgreens here in San Francisco. As my receipt shows, I paid $503.95 ($3.95 fee, $500.00 to be added to the card). An hour later, I attempted to activate the card. The Netspend website wouldn't recognize the reload card number. I waited another hour with the same results. I went back to the Walgreens, spoke to the manager who called Netspend, and waited for them to clear up the situation. What the Walgreens manager and the Netspend representative concluded was that the money got "lost In the transaction" due to a system error, which apparently happens fairly often. I was told I would have to make a copy of my receipt, my reload card, and fax them along with a signed letter of explanation to "documents@netspend.com", where the nice people at Netspend would take their time (2 or more weeks) to review the incident and hopefully credit my money to my account.
It's now been 15 days, and I haven't heard anything from the "documents" department, though I've called the customer service department many times. I've sent the packet of requested documents 3 times. I've never encountered this level of incompetence at a major corporation before. Do they really think it's acceptable to steal my money for 2 weeks (and now they're telling me it will be another 2 weeks)? For the most part, people who use Netspend are middle to lower income individuals who need access to their money immediately. This incident has caused me to fall behind on a couple of my bills and has been a major inconvenience. I think it's disgusting that a company this size will use every possible means to keep lower income people from getting to their money. This company needs to be held accountable for their actions.

I first heard about Netspend 12 years ago. I think I did an online search. I'm pretty sure I just searched online, I was looking for an alternative to the typical checking account. I’ve been able to manage my finances better since using my Netspend card. Also I have a record of where everything goes. I have lost my card a couple of times. They cancel everything immediately - will not let anything go through and immediately shipped me a new card.
I recommend Netspend to everybody because they're awesome. I just recently talked to their representative team. Recently I had ordered some stuff from TigerDirect and it didn't ship. What I got was not what they had described so I tried calling them first and that's what the manufacturer sent. They weren't going to stand up to their guarantee, so I called Netspend. They made it within 24 hours I had a refund. I already recommended Netspend to everybody and they have a referral program that they'll put $10 in your account for everybody you refer. I don't care; I just want everybody to get them because they're great. I think I have gotten 20 friends that have Netspend cards.
I'm just happy they've got that alternative to the typical brick and mortar bank that you charges you a tone of fees. I like being able to deal with a bank that I can call up and say “I have this problem...” and they go, “Here let's get it fixed.”

I had lost my card one time and they cancelled it but then one time I was in North Carolina and somebody was using it in California. I had my card in my pocket so I don't know how that happened. They took care of it. It was like 6 or 7 charges that someone did and they refunded it full when I was in North Carolina. They handled that pretty good.
Now, when I call I can't really talk to anyone so I call and leave a message or whatever and they will get back with me or I go online and I send my message online. I found out that when you do it online, someone will get back with you eventually. But really, Netspend is a cool thing to have.

This is what I frequently use every month. The process is very easy. I like it because you get it two days before you're even supposed to get it and there is no overdraft fee. You got a certain amount of money in there and you don't have to worry about going over. In terms of the safety benefits, I was actually charged over the amount so I went and contacted them. Dear Corythia,
We understand your concern regarding the withdraw limits on your card.
In situations where you need to withdraw a large amount from your card, we recommend performing a cash advance, or over-the-counter withdraw inside of a local bank. Most bank lobbies will offer this service, but you will need to have your ID with you. The fee is similar to an ATM withdraw and you would be able to take out the amount mentioned at one time.
If you have any other concerns, please feel free to contact us at 1-86-NETSPEND and we will be glad to assist you.

My biggest problem is the customer service representatives over the phone. Some of them don't speak English. They're trying but sometimes I can't understand what they're saying. They think it’s a joke when you're worried about your money and what's going on. That's not funny when somebody else is trying to manage their money. They're not cautious and that's been a lot of times. I've actually threatened to leave them a lot. To think a company would have better representation than that. But if I outweigh the bad with the good, the bad would outweigh it. It's just the good is a lot important in my situation, getting a fixed income and being disabled - so it's a bittersweet situation.

On 04/29/2014 I received an automated call from who identified themselves as netspend, saying my account was blocked and for me to give the following information so it will be unblocked. They asked for card # and expiration date. Then next day at 3:01 pm 3 withdrawals were taken from my account for $303.00 each transaction, took 1 min at an ATM in Ann Arbor Mi. I was in Phoenix Az in the sleeper-berth. I have electronic logs to prove this. They want me to have a police report done but I tried in Phoenix and was told that it happened in Mi, so I would need to file a report there. I tried but the online report will only let me get to the property section. I also asked where I could get the Unauthorized use affidavit but nobody will tell me where. I called netspend to find out and they keep giving me the same sentence, "We need you to send a signed account of what happened and a police report and the affidavit." I have 4 more days to get this done. I'm over the road and do not have access of mail or wifi all the time. I'm out for at least 10 days at a time.

I have one of those higher ones for college, where they put my grant money on there and my tuition. I immediately take it off from there and put it on to the netSpend whenever I’m not going to use it - like with all my income tax return refunds and any of that stuff that goes directly to my card. NetSpend gives me the opportunity to watch my money. I like that netSpend has that wireless notifications on my phone. That’s really a great feature with the card. I really totally 100% love my netSpend card.

Don't do it!!!!! This company is terrible. I bought a reload pack for $300, called Netspend to load the $$$ on my Paypal card, gave the lady (Kris) my card # and pack # and the $$$ went into some imaginary account somewhere. Now they're telling me that they can send me a new card that should be here in 7-10 days... Will see... What a bunch of crap... If I have a payment 7-10 days late to one of these banks they'd charge me 20-50 a day but do I get anything when it's their ** up? NO!!!!!

I have been able to manage my finances better since using NetSpend card. It helps me; my money comes in faster than any other bank. It comes in earlier actually. Every place I shop at takes it; I have no problem with it. It seems to be more secure. I don’t usually carry cash and I use my card everywhere I go. I utilize their direct deposit more frequently. I’m on disability, me and my husband. It’s really easy. I've been on NetSpend for quite a few years now. I had a few problems where something would take out that I didn't know about or never heard of, and so when I would call them, talk to them about it there was one instance where I really had a hard time because the agency would not refund the money they took out, so NetSpend refunded it. I didn't have a problem there, but they did have to issue me a new card, because the next month the place did the same thing. Overall my experience was excellent. I have no problem with NetSpend.

About 10 years ago, my sister had a husband who drives big rigs and the truck drivers used netSpend cards to get paid direct deposit. She got me the card. I use it because their deposit is faster. I can manage my money better but being without my parents and a successful orphan, I've been on environments where people took advantage of me where I couldn't finance. I'm beginning to do it right now. NetSpend has been great. I was transferring money from one card to another and every so often they would stop it for security reasons without my permission and the information I send in may not be good enough. That's the only thing I don't like about it.

I’m on Social Security, so I have my Social Security check deposited on there. I like it that it gets there a couple of days early. I have a bank account but I don’t want to put it on there because they wait until the 3rd no matter what. I utilize the direct deposit frequently, I've used it for years now. But it’s just hard to contact NetSpend if you’re in the car or something to get your money back or if you have somebody to recall or if somebody charged something by mistake to get your money back. They go through all kinds of **. It’s not like a bank, they give your money back right away. They want letters and all kind of ** to get your money back. I received a text from Netspend about my balance letting me know that $430 had been transferred out of my account. I called and apparently someone called in pretending to be me and even answered the security question which is Really hard for me to believe since the answer I gave was a made up answer to prevent things like this from happening. So this money was transferred to another Netspend account. So to me it seems to be an inside job because it just doesn't make sense. So of course they cancelled my card. Now I have NO money because I have to wait 7-10 days for a new card. Also when I called yesterday I was told I would be contacted of their decision in 2 days. I called today to inform them that I filed a police report and was told they would get back with me by May 13th.. Really 2 weeks. Shouldn't there be audio from the call that was made from whomever requested the transfer?

I am currently in the process of having Netspend investigated through several government agencies including the FBI in the state of Texas (Travis) county. Over 2 weeks ago a client of mine had her tax refund deposited on one of their prepaid debit cards. Needless to say only a portion was credited to her card and was suppose to be sent the next business day within 24 hours!! When she awoke that morning she checked her card and the money was there; however, within less than an hour she arrives at the bank to withdraw the money only to be told she had insufficient funds!!! Her house had caught on fire a few days prior so Red Cross was paying for her and her children to live in a hotel until she was able to secure a place. She found a place and was hoping to use the money to pay to move in so she and her children would not be homeless!!
When the money was taken off her card it prevented her from moving in and she had nowhere to go!! We called Netspend literally ALL DAY only to get the run around from supervisors and customer service reps!!! Then they begin to tell us we needed to fill out a claims form and the money MAY be returned with 20-45 days although it only took them an hour to steal it!!! By the end of the night we had spoken to at least 30 different people who could not come up with a reasonable answer as to what happened to her money!! Finally we get a rep who tells us that they found out that an employee stole her funds and transferred it to another card for himself!!! This is ridiculous!!!
To this day the money has not been reissued to her and she needs it!! We have contacted the Attorney General, filed a police report & will be contacting the Federal Trade Commission, filing an official report with the Texas Attorney General online, The Internet Crime Complaint Center and the Attorney General in our county!!!! No one should have to deal with this!! These people have to be stopped!! If we ban together and enough calls and complaints come into that county they can be exposed for what they are doing!!! Don't allow them to just sit back and take your money and not do anything about!! I hope this information helps someone as it is helping us!! Best of Luck!!!

I have been with NetSpend now for about 9 years. I have watch them grow and they have watch me grow. NetSpend always have been very considerate with me. Whenever I had to write NetSpend or call them concerning bank issues I have never been disappointed. But this last concern of mine they took care of so nicely that in fact I was even more surprise and grateful. I had ordered some items from a very nice place and there was a mishap where they accidentally charged me twice for a single order. This did not overdraft my account but the third withdrawal from the same company did. At that point I called the company and they put all my money back into my account and actually paid my overdraft fee of $15.00.
This was great considering the inconvenience that they had caused me. At this time NetSpend also matched that fee and took it off of my account. I was so happy that they had noticed that I am just not a number. They have been paying attention to me and my account with them. I am just very happy that I am with a bank that have humans working there with a heart and common sense. I will stay with NetSpend and know that I am well taken care of. Thanks NetSpend.

My experience with NetSpend has been wishy-washy. I've been on it for I don’t know how long. I just happened to see it in the check cashing place. I needed a card to be able to put money on. I struggle with everything being taken out. I was trying to get the overdraft thing and I went on the computer. I couldn't get it on the computer. I feel like they should know that by seeing it on their computer and should be able to sign us up instead of going through all that, instead of you going on the computer, you filling out the information when they should already have that information in there, your transactions that I’m going through because my check is deposited to my account.
I am able to manage my finances better but when I do the overdraft, there’s too much crap being taken out. If I need money, of course, paying bills offline and stuff like that. I've been broken in a couple of times where I've had money taken out. For me, a lot of times, the customer service is kind of like not helpful. A lot of times, they’re not, I don’t understand them, they’re not explaining themselves right. One person could say one thing and another person could say another thing.
With the overdraft, the lady made it seem like I did it already over the phone. When I called again, they said, you have to do it over the computer. There’s not a lot of great communication that goes on. One time, I had my check deposit and then another check got deposited which was not a check. It was a duplicate. That’s a big mistake because if I didn't look at the alert message thing, I could have been in trouble. That’s not a good thing.

I like my Netspend prepaid card. I chose them because I hate carrying cash and at that time, Netspend was closer to me. I didn't have to go anywhere but up the street from me. I have direct deposit on it which helps a lot too. I've tried things around here in town and they've always miscalculated my dashes and dots and I lost a lot of money in banks because they didn't go by what I wrote down. With Netspend, I haven't had that problem. If I have any problems, I can call Netspend and talk it out with them. Sometimes they do get behind when money comes in, how it's taken out but they do catch up to me mostly later. Most of the times I get notified when I take out money and sometimes I don't get the message until the next day.
My husband and I are both on it and a couple of others I know because I've asked them about it and recommended it. Sometimes it's a little harder to get, like in Indiana. As far as I know, they don't even have that there. They can get a Visa but they can't get a Netspend card. I've been up there and I can spend it once it's in my card but if I go to a store and want to buy one, there's none that do that. I've been on Netspend for quite a few years and I'm not going to change anytime soon unless they quit.

It so crazy how this company can get away with stealing from us. Come on people lets pull together and do something about this..This company needs to be shut down before they get rich off of us, people who can't afford to do anything about it...The more people we can pull together the thicker our armor and the louder our voice is. About 5 years ago I began using NetSpend and have had no problems with their service. I continue to use my NetSpend card to buy groceries and to pay for other services. The convenience of being able to check my balance by phone, use ATMs at a low cost and enroll in a monthly fee plan have enabled me to plan on how I use money. Would wish to enroll in direct deposit but my former employer did not offer that to all employees. Thank you and keep up the good work.

I got my netSpend card 7 years ago. It has not helped me with my finances but at least I can walk in a store and buy what I want. My interactions with netSpend have been fairly good so far until they started telling me lies, that they can’t give me my service alerts. They're telling me that they can't beep my phone or give me alerts about my card because this company won’t let it. If they dial that number and gave me my alerts, I'd keep my alerts. For some reason because my plan went down from $10 a month to $5 a month, now I’m not getting the services that I was getting in the first place. My overall experience with them used to be okay.

I am pleased with NetSpend. My daughter was the one that got me the card and at first I said no because it would be too much trouble. But I was totally wrong. When I need money she transfers it from her card. And when she needs money I transfer it into her card. It's so easy because the store that I go to puts in the money for free. The only thing is that when you take out money I am charged $3.00 so I have to make sure I have that amount in it. I love it that when I use it I am not scared if I go a little bit over when I go to restaurants because you never know what extra charge they will put in there. I do not get denied or embarrassed.
I do have one complaint though is that when I make payments with my card I am always charged an extra $1.00 or so for some kind of service charge. And also when I call in when they tell me to call in because I have a problem with my password etc. the person says it will be $4.00 but when I explain I was told to call, they remove it. Thank You Netspend. You are the Best!

I've been with this bank since Feb '11. At first it was ok, not too bad. But over the last year or so they have caused me to consider moving to another bank. You can't understand their customer service reps since they outsource to India. There is a huge language barrier to cross to get them to understand what you are saying. You have to pay to speak to a rep. If people don't have a computer or they are older or disabled and can't use one, they are forced to PAY to get help. Pfft hogwash. They do not send out ALERTS consistently. I can go for weeks spending every day and not get a balance alert, then get one or two and nothing else for weeks. Once I find a bank that is a little more customer friendly, I'm leaving Netspend.

I am able to manage my finances better with Netspend. Every time I get money on it, it lets me know. When I get my direct deposit on my insurance and my veteran money, they let me know. Every time I spend some money, it also tells me right away. If I’m going to the store and spend some money, before I can get out the door, it comes right on my phone to tell me exactly what store I was at, how much I spend, how much is on it. I'm a senior citizen. I go to the same stores and NetSpend has a record of where I go. If something happens, I can call and verify I ain't never been there. I ain't worried since nobody can get my card and go buy something without me knowing. Once I called because DirecTV or something took some money without my authority and I got my money back. It's also easy to load. I go to CVS and only costs me $3 to load money on it, $3.95. I'm happy with Netspend. Netspend has been good to me. I'm not going anywhere. It's been wonderful. WAKE UP OUT THERE, FOLKS!!! They are a rip-off card company that wants to take further advantage of people who can't get a card for whatever reason (although ANY credit union will issue you a check/debit card, which is basically the same thing, but FREE!!!).
You really need to be careful in your banking practices these days since the "Stimulus Act" went through. Banks have had to think up all kinds of new ways to get your money! I mean, that why they did the act to begin with; banks were taking ADVANTAGE OF US. Loyal consumers being pick apart by little fees to help them make money in a crappy economy!!! USE YOUR HEAD and especially YOUR EYES!!! READ the fine print. All of you that think "NETSPEND IS GREAT" need an education and a wake up call, which you'll all get when they bill you $5.95 for the monthly usage fee. Oh yeah, six buck to use your own money??? He call corporate office, the money was back on my card. The next day went to the Doctor, use the card for co-pay, clerk told me you only had so much on the card. Check my account, they had let the transaction go thru at 5:44 a.m. after that blocked the card the day before. Now they told me the merchant have the money and I have to dispute the charges. Granted the li'l money I did have on the card, was all I had to my next pay check in two weeks. This was a overseas charge. I work hard for my money and I'm a single parent with one income.

I got the 9.95 plan from Netspend. Using it is easy. Their people were courteous. I like them better than other provider. I'll recommend them to a friend.

The service is overall okay unless you need to make a large purchase. I needed to purchase a car and needed to withdraw $1600 from my savings and had to close my savings in order to take out more than $1000 and being penalized and not allowed to utilize your savings account for 90 days just because you made a large purchase is bad for business.

I'm actually thinking about changing Netspend because I get my disability check on it, my mom and dad have theirs too, and it just costs too much money. People do not have in the household everywhere computers, and we shouldn't be charged 50 cents every time we want to find out how much is on our account, and we shouldn't have to pay 50 cents just to speak to an operator. And number two, like with my dad, when I go to get the money orders for the rent, it takes $12 just to get the money order; that's not right. I can go someplace else where they're not charging you for money orders, they're not charging you to pull money off your card, they're not charging you 50 cents just to call in to see how much your stuff is. That's ridiculous.
There are other cards out there that you don't pay that on top of paying 9.95 charge for them to beep my phone and stuff when the money comes in which it always doesn't do. Every time I use my card, it's supposed to let me know on my phone how much was spent and how much is left. It doesn't always do that. It's getting worse and worse and worse. They want more money first. I can give a whole bunch, a list of clients, that are moving from them because they're just greedy, hungry people.
Dear Gaylie,
We appreciate you speaking with us earlier. We understand your concerns and we are looking into different options to help alleviate some of the fees you have been charged.

Netspend is easy to use. One time I was on the phone with them and they handled my business really well. They were really good about it. I just really have no problem with netSpend. If I need a question answered, they're friendly people, I can call them through and my account just never been wrong, and I receive my monthly statements on what I did on my account and everything. I'd recommend them, I've been with them for years.

Many years ago I would have given Netspend 10 stars, but today 2 stars is pushing it... The online service ** and you can't get anyone on the phone to help you... Before they decided to try and keep up with the Jones... the site, customer service and the card usage itself was EXCELLENT. I chose NetSpend many years ago because I could add my man, my children and his son to my account and not have to worry about them needing money when I was not available to give it to them... You see...it was grand at one time.
When I was in the hospital for surgery and they didn't think I was going to make it... all I could think about was... how is he going to eat and pay the bills??? His job didn't bring in much money so I needed to make sure he was well taken care of so I got him a card on my account so I wouldn't have to worry about him being without if I didn't pull through the surgery... Well Thank God in heaven I made it through the surgery... He still has a card on my account which is the only thing about this site that is still half ** okay...
I just wish NetSpend had customer service reps who spoke English, knew their job descriptions, knew how to properly help all types of customers, had a better phone system and didn't FORCE ITS CUSTOMERS TO HAVE LONG DRAWN OUT PASSWORDS... 6 characters (minimum) was, is and always be the better bet... some people don't have time for making a capital first letter and all that ** we have to go through just to log into our accounts... The only thing good about NetSpend now is that it is prepaid. The truth is what it is and this isn't even scratching the surface of all of the issues wrong with Netspend/Netspend.com.

I had a problem with a First Fifth Bank ATM, where my cash was not dispensed. Immediately following this ATM error I contacted NetSpend regarding the situation and filed a dispute. Within 6 hours, all funds were refunded back to my account. About a week or 2 later, I received a message from NetSpend saying the investigation was complete on my dispute and that the merchant refunded the funds. I was very pleased with the outcome and glad to know NetSpend did everything to assist in the dispute.

I have been a customer of the NetSpend Visa / Meta Bank since 2006. This card enables me to pay my bills online, purchase items online & in any store, make cash withdrawals at any ATM, and I am able to set up automatic direct deposits to my account from Social Security, IRS, my husband's paychecks and retirement benefits. Having the site online allows me to check my account at anytime. And having "anytime alerts" free lets me know when transactions are being made to my account. This is truly a valuable card to have.
I recommend NetSpend to anyone. I assure you that it's a great deal. You can pay $9.95 monthly to cover all of your transactions and know exactly what to deduct from your account for bank fees. It's simple, it's convenient, it's perfect! Why else would I have been with them for so long? You only spend what you have. There's never any issues like you have with a regular bank! I could never keep my stuff together with a bank... I was always in the hole and wondering why! Not anymore!! Try it... You will be pleased with your choice!

On 12/20/13 after going to see a movie my Netspend card was lost. The next morning while at work I received a phone alert advising me of my account balance and that's when I noticed that I no longer had my card so I called Netspend disputes department and had my card canceled and my funds were place back on my card. I was overjoyed that the issue was resolved so quickly. Two days later when checking my balance I noticed the money was gone again so when I contacted customer service I was informed that the merchant had collected the money that was placed back into my account and that I would have to fax over a letter with my signature case number and other information and my money would be once again returned to me. So I faxed over the required paperwork and waited for a week then I gave customer service a call for an update and was assured by the rep that my paperwork was received and she then promised me I would be receiving my money back in 24-48 hours.
So I once again gave them an additional three days and no refund so I called back and was informed that my case was closed because I did not include a reason for disputing the charges which was crazy to me that no one would at least try and contact me. So I faxed over the information again and called after another three days and was then hung up on when I requested a supervisor. Tried calling back and was placed in hold for over 30 minutes and then returned back to the queue. Now being almost two months and no resolution it seems as if my hard earned money is just gone and I'm the one who is suffering for Netspend's poor service.
