NetSpend has been fantastic for me. Every time I use it, I haven't had any problems. It was quick and easy access to get my direct deposits from my payroll check when I was working and they gave my checks a different day or two. I get my check a little early which was kind of exciting and convenient for me. I also use it for online purchases like buying movies, as an ATM, I can go to get gas, and I can use it at the grocery store here. It’s been convenient for that purpose also.

I actually just got my card since October and that was pretty much it, because I have a debit card with my bank account that I get my pay on. I just receive my income tax on my NetSpend card. Also, I did pay some bills using it and everything went through great. But if I end up having to order some stuff offline, I'll probably put some more money on it. I've tried to use the card instead of my bank in case the information would get leaked out or something, then I could just cancel that and I won't have to suspend my whole checking account. I actually had to contact them once and everything went well and smooth. I didn't have any problems. If anyone asked me if they were looking for a debit card-type prepaid, I'd say "Get NetSpend."

I got a refund at a store, put on my NetSpend card. It then showed up on a text message that it was available. I went to go get some money out and my card came back as blocked. I then called customer service and they let me know that it was blocked because they did not see a transaction prior. They said it could get cleared up if I faxed the receipt to them. I then call to verify that they received it and they then told me it would take about 6 hours. I then called about 7 hours later - I was then told it actually was going to take 2 more days to process the funds back to me..

I don't trust banks and NetSpend was convenient for me. The money can go direct deposit, and I can pay my bills ahead of time. I really enjoy having the NetSpend card and the benefit of saving more money. It's the only way I pay my bills, and I do everything with it. I reload it when I have money because I don't like to carry cash on me. The only thing I do not like with NetSpend, we have to pay $4 or $5 to reload our card through, to put it on NetSpend.
Out of the six years I've been with NetSpend, I've had two altercations with customer service, with them not understanding what I was saying or with my name change situation with my income tax. I always have my income tax go directly to my NetSpend card. With the name change, I had faxed over and sent everything to them and they still have my name wrong, which had my income tax late and it's not back, and I was so upset about it because I did everything they had told me to do and they didn't do their part on time. But still I would recommend them because they're actually good.

I tried it when I went to pay a bill at a check-cashing place and saw it there. NetSpend gives a text message every time you make a purchase, and then they text-message your balance every day which I like. It's very easy to manage finances because of the text messages. I don't carry cash, I just use the NetSpend card. Last year my card got compromised. Someone used the account to purchase items down in South Carolina. I called NetSpend and they discontinued that card and sent me a new one. I sent them a letter saying I didn't use the card because I was in New Jersey at the time, and they refunded the money that was taken. NetSpend is excellent all around.

I use NetSpend for my direct deposit, pay for bills and online purchases. I’m in the preferred plan and it’s free every time I use it as the credit. I only have one problem with it because when you take out money at an ATM, the ATM charges you and then NetSpend charges you also. Other than that, dealing with the team is great. They are very knowledgeable and know what they were doing.

I’ve been a Netspend customer for a long time and I have everything on auto pay out of my Netspend account. Among the benefits of the card is not having to carry cash on me, pay bills, and make online purchases which are all convenient for me. I use direct deposit 99% of the time and that process is easy. I use my NetSpend to auto-pay my car payments and the fact that I have to put in routing number and my bank account number, it’s a day or two before that money ever comes out. I would rather have it come out automatically. I’ve contacted their team when I’ve had an unauthorized charge or when I get a name change where they were very helpful and everything was done in a very timely fashion. Also, we have different family members who use NetSpend and we transfer money back and forth which is nice too.

Last April we used NetSpend for the first time because in rush for refund. What a waste, card got lost. Called them to cancel and send Replacement. Well never received it, so called again and this time they said there was no record of a first call but this representative told us balance (1400!) And said card going in mail should arrive in 2 weeks. Well again no card. So now, 3rd time calling and now they have no record of the 2 calls, etc. Keep getting run around.
Last time we called they said the balance is zero. We are suing NetSpend. We lost our entire refund. And strange thing is now after last call, account history frozen, we have to call back. WTF. Anyone had any luck with getting money back from this company. They really are crooks. Very very poor customer service. I am obsessed with this and my husband could care less. He keeps saying he'll call and never does. Did he take the card it makes me think. Anyway strange thing is since last call was made I have received 3 new cards in mail all with different account numbers. Could someone help me please?

NetSpend I have no problem with as far as the service but the customer service needs more lesson in speaking English. I don't mean any offense. A lot of times it just takes too long on the phone because they can't understand English and I have to repeat myself four times to customer service. That part is very aggravating to me. So usually if I do call, I end up asking for a supervisor and it absolutely gets better after that.

My mom was using NetSpend so I decided to try it and so far I'm absolutely 100% pleased with my NetSpend card. I use it all the time to pay bills and make purchases online. It's been very convenient and for the most part it's better than a bank card because banks charge you all these overdraft fees and NetSpend doesn't. In addition to that, everybody's been very helpful any of the times that I've ever called.
I have direct deposit on this card but if I need to add money to my account there are reload locations nearby. I have used them once or twice.

Filed a charge, dispute representative didn't cancel my card. Whoever stole my card spent the money that they refunded back to me because the representative didn't cancel my card, they apologize and told me to fax another letter stating what happened. I faxed the letter, now they put the money back on my card but cancelled out my account and said they was going to send me a paper check that will take 20 business days. WTF!!!! I want legal action against them.

We were no longer given pay checks, so I needed to secure a way of getting my pay checks through a card. I chose NetSpend, and one of the perks at the time was they offered free monthly with direct deposits. I'm able to get my bills paid on time, and with them offering the one day early with the direct deposit my account is credited actually the day before check day - that helps. Their employees are very helpful and seem to be very knowledgeable with helping me with any issues that I have. If someone is not able to help me, they get someone else without a problem. It's been a great experience so far. In fact, I've actually opened up another account and I refuse to give up my NetSpend because I really enjoy the perks with it.

A tax preparer filed my taxes via Turbo Tax and opened an account with Netspend without my consent. The IRS approved the return and deposited the refund into said account. Once I realized that the deposit did not go into my bank account, I called Netspend and closed the account. Long story short, I pressed charges, the police detectives gathered proof of the fraud (video, etc) and arrested the suspect and charged her. I was advised by Netspend's dispute department that I needed to file a complaint with the IRS, which I did, as well as the FTC and have the documents sent to them. The police sent the documents via email and fax to Netspend.
I received a claim number from Netspend and the dispute department said they would call me within 10 days. This did not happen. I have called more times than I can count, and I'm always told the same thing by the customer service reps. I need to file a claim with the IRS, etc. I am SO FRUSTRATED with their runaround. I want my money back and they will not give it to me! I've done what I am supposed to do and they are not.

I was looking for a prepaid card that I could use for my travel pay from the VA hospital or VA clinic. They needed a bank account but I can't get a bank account normally because of circumstances. So my sister got the NetSpend card for me. She put $20 on it to begin with. I've had this card for almost two years now. I use it all the time to pay bills and make online purchases.
It's great if I've got a lot of money on that card, but it sucks if there's not much money on it. So it's good and bad. I pay $9.95 a month for this card so that I don't get charged for every transaction. I think that's a little steep. It should be something like $5, because I've been doing it for so long. My sister was looking into getting me a card from someplace else. But I can easily spend money if I have it on hand. In fact, I had a couple of hundred one dollar bills and two $100 bills that I had saved. So I had my sister put the money on my card, but I had spent half of it already. If it's on my card, I can't easily spend it.
When I had to call NetSpend's customer service a few times because I didn't understand something, everybody that I've ever talked to there was helpful. I've never had a problem with any of them, so it's cool. Nothing's perfect completely, but NetSpend works very well. The only problem I have is I can't remember my card number so I have to pull my card out every time I use it. Other than that, it's okay. I wish I could get a discount on that $9.95 a month fee though...at least cut it in half.

NetSpend helps us control our money because it doesn't let you spend more than what you have in your account, maybe about $5 or no more than $10 of what you have. That was how we ran into problems with the banks. And then we would have late charges that would come out of my next pay. The farther we went, the farther behind we got. Now we have our direct deposits go in there. We've been using it for about four or five years. We use their direct deposit option more frequently. It's always two days ahead of time. Just a couple times over the years, we paid for something and we took it twice. We had to call NetSpend and they fixed it right away.

Then, on March 20, 2015, he saw a P2P transfer from ** to ** for the amount of $1100.00! I'm assuming the card name (first name and first letter of last name) are what shows on statement as to and from.
We immediately called and "locked" all cards linked to this account and began trying to speak to someone in customer service and have had NO luck speaking to anyone that seemed to care much less help with this. One NetSpend rep actually went through three or four security questions and proceeds to tell me that I have "failed" the security test check and pls call back later with correct answers to the security questions!!! I received an email next day from a different rep saying the $1,100 debit was credited to my other NetSpend debit card ending in 3363.
I called and explained this entire situation to another reopening on the phone today and pleaded with him to not transfer me and let the phone hang up as the others had. After holding for ten or so minutes, he tells me that he had located where the money was deposited which was a "new" account which I had opened and then starts to ask me the security questions!!! I gave him the address (my correct address) and he says, "I'm sorry ma'am. That's not matching." Well of course it isn't! I NEVER opened another NetSpend account. There was only ONE legit NetSpend account active in my name and any other ones were fraudulent or unauthorized.
He says that it seemed I was a victim of identity theft and there was nothing they could do. I asked what balance my "new" account had. $8. So since he was so firm when saying 'YOUR new account' I asked him what my address was listed as on this account? I asked where this card was shipped to? And what were just a couple of transactions / purchases that I had made in the last few days? With a balance of "8$" it seemed "I" used debit card. He said that for security reasons, he couldn't reveal this info. The only thing he would advise was that I contact the FDIC and credit bureau because I was a victim of identity theft.
I want to know how and why NetSpend would allow a brand new account to be created and used with a completely foreign address and email address and phone #! Sure, I'm going to contact those I need to concerning my identity theft threat and this will protect my credit for 90 days but this doesn't fix the problem at hand. $1,100... I am beyond upset and refuse to settle with a mere apology. So, as for NetSpend? I would NEVER advise anyone use them.

I get my government check early by a couple days and that helps a lot. It's easier to understand the statements when I get them. I like the fact that I pay less on the plan fee. Where a lot of companies put out false advertising, NetSpend doesn't. And the company is good, sincere and honest.

I set up an account for my ailing father-in-law to avoid him overdrafting his checking account. I have a legal POA over his finances, but now Netspend won't allow me to speak on his behalf even after submitting the documentation as requested by a representative. What's worse, one representative on the phone said she could see it, gave me INFORMATION about the account, and then said she couldn't confirm my POA. If the latter was the case, they are giving out sensitive information to just anyone.
If they COULD see my POA and know it was fine for me to access this information and make changes, they flat out refuse to do so now regardless of my legal authority. Now I've wasted two weeks, unable to get my father-in-law money because they have suspended the card and I seem to have no recourse to get the money back because he is unable to call them himself. STAY AWAY IF YOU ARE MAKING AN ACCOUNT FOR AN ELDERLY FAMILY MEMBER!

Highly advise NOT to open an account with NetSpend. I had 7 fraudulent charges on my card within a 5-minute span. Called to have the charges reversed immediately. When I called, I did not speak with an American; however, the on-hold message makes one believe you will speak with an American. The representative was hard to understand and kept telling me I had to wait until all of the charges went from pending to collected from the vendor before I could file a complaint. These charges were from foreign countries!
I asked to speak with a supervisor and was left on hold for over 30 minutes the first time, 45 minutes the second time. When I called back the third time, the "supervisor" got to the line, she kept saying they could not stop any charges from coming through until the charges went from pending to collected. She kept insinuating that I may have used the card on sites that did not protect my card information... I use this card to pay my car, auto insurance, and utilities - ALL AMERICAN COMPANIES! NetSpend is yet another scamming company who take advantage of hardworking Americans! Do yourself a favor and learn from my mistake... DO NOT USE NETSPEND.

The Ace Elite Visa Debit card from NetSpend.com has allowed me to shop with the knowledge that my money is safe and I can still purchase with the ease of a debit card. Unable to get credit, this card has filled the void of that problem, and made life easier. Now I can load the funds I need, when I need them, or load funds for future use, with a simple $3 fee per loading and a small $1 fee for each use of card. The card from NetSpend.com has allowed me to shop on line again and have the buying power that does not go beyond my means. It is a perfect match to someone with a bad credit history, as it allows normal use like a credit card, but never gets you into credit card payment problems. I would highly recommend this card for those not able to get credit, as it works like credit and keeps you within your budgeted funds. Great card and great customer service from my re-load center too!

I went with NetSpend because of the two-day early deal because it always helps to get your money early, and also for Social Security disability so that sounded prominent and it's something that I would like to try. It helps manage my finances but I think that $15 overdraft fee is a little excessive. I feel like I was kind of misled because I thought that when you pay the $5 extra every month, that would help as far as ATM fees.
But basically it really doesn't help you paying $5 for transaction fees and that should include ATM fee. I don't like that part. And I'm thinking about switching just because of that. You get charged $2.50 every time you go to the ATM and you get charged for the ATM fee, so that's another $5, and then you get charged $15 overdraft fee. I feel like it's a little gouging. They try to justify it but to me it just doesn't make any sense.
I tried to talk to them about it because this month alone, I got charged $15 three times - that's $45 right there. And then I got charged $2.50 for ATM withdrawal from them. So, why am I giving you $5 debit plan fee? Why am I giving you that if I'm already getting charged $2.50 already? And the $15 to me, you got $20 left on your card, you can only buy something for $5. And then if you buy something for 5 or $4, the $5 wouldn't even go through. It only went through for $4 and I got charged $15 for a $4 purchase. You already paid for the transaction, why you got to pay a transaction fee too? It's really too excessive.
The one good thing is that they answer the phone, at least you can reach somebody on the phone. They don't keep you on hold for a real long time and they respond to you to the best of their ability. So that part I like, but then they don't have any power. They can't delete a fee off or anything. So, really, in the long run, they help but then again they don't help.

After noticing a charge on my card that was pending that I did not authorized and had no idea who the merchant was, I contacted Netspend (Cost 50 cents to speak to a live person), I explained that I did not want the charge to go through since it was still pending and I did not authorized this charge, little did I know the burden of proof is left up to the merchant and not me the owner of the card. The charge was made by a merchant in Boston, I live in New York.
The solution was to block my card from future use with an existing balance, send me a new card that will take 7-10 days to receive, meaning I have no access to my money until then, and have the charge investigated with the merchant that will take up to 25 days, with no promise for a refund because they have to consult with a merchant on pending charge that I did not authorize. If we was disputing a line of credit I would not be concerned but we are disputing my actual money and once this is resolved I will no longer trust Netspend to receive my funds from my employer or any of entity. I will be deactivating my account, this is unacceptable.

BEWARE..... I’VE used netspend for over ten years… it been a rocky road. I use them because they release my direct deposits on the spot. (That’s why I gave them the star.) I went to Maui last Nov, my card was left behind on accident. While I was gone, my roommate and I got into an argument over the phone (he in sf, I was in Maui). He decides to throw my stuff in an alley.. EVERYTHING I own, including my card, address book that has my pin. I get home ten days later and see this. I call the police and file a report and notify netspend my card has been stolen and 2000 is missing. They block my card and access to my on line account.
So for the next 60 days I’m telling them “hey, my money is gone”, they keep sending me these secure messages WHICH I CAN’T SEE CAUSE THEY BLOCKED MY ON LINE ACCESS. LOL, I CAN’T EVEN SEE THE CHARGES TO DISPUTE THEM. Finally in January, a representative reads every (like 25 transactions) to me over the phone. WTF, my card was used everywhere. So I dispute each charges (mind you I have never seen the statement). I call cops, etc.
2-20-15 three months later, I get a letter saying my dispute denied, no error found because my roommate had access to my card (which he took and threw away). They are saying my dispute is being denied. I asked for all evidence in getting to this decision, (they never asked for the police reports, etc) told I would have to get a lawyer and subpoena them. Are you kidding me? Is this how my money is protected.
I SERVED IN IRAQ AND WAS INJURED, THE MONEY STOLEN WAS MY DISABILITY CHECK FROM THE VA. SHAME ON YOU NETSPEND, I DID EVERYTHING BY THE BOOK. I GUESS I’M OUT 2000. The charges were credit card charges and the merchant never checked the id's cause my card was not signed, I have a picture of it. I had scanned it shortly before Hawaii for other reasons. The back said see id. So how can a merchant take a card, it’s not the person using it, they don’t check the id and it’s my fault.

I don't like banks so I went with NetSpend to manage my money for me. Because in banks, if somebody has your debit card and you have them on an automatic payment plan, they take your money out, they try to run your card. I'm on disability and I'm getting paid once a month. So if the bank try the 28th to send the bill, they'd charge me to pay $30 because my card didn't go through. Well, that was my payment. And then I wouldn't have enough money to pay because they charge my account $30. So that sets me back. Well I'm sorry I don't have enough money to play it like that. So I should have a prepaid debit card. And NetSpend at the time was one of the few that have the prepaid debit card. I get to manage my finances better with NetSpend. The card is very good to use when I pay bills and make online purchases. But there was one time, I called them and told them to put a stop on my card. I get a new card and they thought that it would take 14 days for me to get a new card and I said I can't wait that long to have access to my money. They want to charge me $25 for me to get the card the next day. Then they took $25 out of my account and I didn't even receive the card the next day.
I also had the hardest time reaching customer service and no supervisor wanted to speak to me. Which I thought was very humiliating because they've got my money and they think they can just treat me any kind of way. I did get the card the following day and they gave me my $25 back. Other than this experience, I don't have any problems with them. Also, they need to have better English-speaking people that answer the phone. It seems like they have a lot of foreigners answering the phone and they don't know what they're talking about. But I would still recommend them to other people.

I called in to ask questions on my account. I am not sure if the person I was speaking to had any type of customer service training, but she was very rude. After asking her a question about my account she went ahead and blocked my card. She never informed me that she was going to do this. I found out through text messages. I called back and asked for a manager. She was no help as well and spoke little to no English. She continued to repeat the same response over and over again to me. Then she told me to get my card back faster I need to pay twenty five dollars. This is the first company that does not do overnight shipping. The express service they provide takes four days. They did not want to admit any kind of fault on their end nor did the manager even apologize to me. I recommend no one to ever put themselves through such an agony.

I'm an elderly person and on a fixed income. I got NetSpend because there were no contract involved and the fees were small. They have always been available when I've had problems. Like when someone got into my account and we had to change my card. They've been very helpful whenever issues have come up or where I've cancelled an account and they went ahead and billed me in. I didn't have to go through all that trauma. I'm glad I have my card.

Ok. I love Netspend! I have been a cardholder for the last 5 years. I receive 2 monthly direct deposits, the customer service is Amazing. I say amazing because if I had to compare Netspend's quality customer care experience versus other pre paid cards available to consumers. Let’s just say this, I feel like you have always treated me as if I were a valuable customer, an important asset in your company. You might say the same way an actual Bank would be treating its customer who had a checking and savings. This is very important for consumers today.
I don't want to be treated like a customer who "can't get a bank account" and has resorted to an expensive, ridiculous, no perks, no benefits pre paid card. The great thing is that Netspend has never made me feel like that. You guys provide EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. Online banking options are wonderful. Abilities for sending and receiving money are easy and fast. Great card!

Personal Issue: We have had NetSpend for 5 years now. Today we finally decided it was time to quit their services and shred their cards. We went out to get fuel and dinner one night and realized that the magnetic strip wasn't working and decided to activate the new card that we had gotten from them with my wife's new design she wanted on it. We were on EMPTY and needed fuel right then and there. We called to activate the card and they said there was a hold on our account. They needed 8 hours to process our request. I explained the situation and went up the chain of command. There was nothing they could do to expedite the transfer of funds to the new card. We ended up finding change in the car and got home and waiting until the funds were finally changed to the new card. It took 3 business days for all of the money to transfer over.
My sister's story with NetSpend: She did her taxes this year and had them approved by the IRS and deposited onto her NetSpend card. The only problem was NetSpend took FOREVER to get a card to her! It took 7 weeks from the time the IRS deposited the money onto her account before she was FedEx'd a card.. FINALLY. We even tried to transfer the funds from her account, into our NetSpend account that we had open for 5 years. Apparently there was a block on her account, she could not do anything with her account basically. Only withdraw from an ATM. She couldn't transfer funds, purchase online or do anything with her account.
They said that because of the calls she placed with the offices, they had put a hold on her account because they thought there was something going on with her account fraudulently. We asked to remove the hold, they refused and said it was for her protection. So strange! In the end, she got her card and immediately pulled off all of the money.
We canceled everything with them. They are horrible. You cannot understand them on the phone. They are rude and they actually lie to you about small things (We ended up finding out that they could have removed the block on the account!). If you have to direct deposit your taxes, find a different way! You will be waiting a VERY long time if you go through this service! And DEFINITELY do not have them as your bank, they will literally leave you stranded at a gas station wishing you had the ability to transfer funds promptly and courteously!

Because I became a disabled vet, I was given a very large settlement check and I haven't had some place to put it. So when I went and cashed the check, I thought about opening an account once again. NetSpend helps me manage my finances a whole lot better. It's a whole lot easier not to carry around a lot of cash especially in this day and age, people will knock you in the head for 10 bucks. And I receive my direct deposit from the US government through NetSpend and every time I called for some assistance, they've been on the spot and have taken care of me immediately. If I send an email, I'd get a response within probably about 3 to 4 hours. I'm very happy with it and I've been recommending it to a lot of other people as well.

They've been pretty accurate. I very seldom have to call unless there's a problem with the merchant that's taking money out of my account and not putting it back. It's convenient that I don't have to write checks out and wait in line for the bank, and the money goes right to my direct deposit. I also like their overdraft protection and getting my money early because I don't have to wait until that particular day. There is a lot of fine print you should read before direct depositing a tax return. Also, you have to use the card on a regular basis or they inactivate it. I applied for a NetSpend Card when I did my taxes on Turbo Tax. The card came exactly a week later in the mail and the money was already loaded on it. I've spent several thousands of dollars on it already, then I tried to go to Walmart yesterday and make a withdrawal at the money center and I was denied. So I went to the ATM to try again. It let me withdraw 300 dollars but no more than that. So I called NetSpend customer service right away and they told me that some suspicious activities have been going on and my address has changed so now I need to verify my identity. But it's going to take 4-6 hours so they told me that they needed a bill, an I.D., and my social security card through email.
So I pleaded with customer service for hours because it clearly says in their policy they will never ask for sensitive information thru email and also they wouldn't send it. The supervisor kept saying this is what we need and eventually I guess I was frustrating her so she said, "I'll cancel the card and sent you a check." My whole thing is when I ordered the card it was to a different address then the card I ordered previously and the federal government can understand that I moved but a prepaid card company doesn't get that. Also I really don't understand why they would let me spend any money off of the card in the 1st place.
I have bills to pay, I'm pregnant and already have a child. I really need my money NOW!!! So I sent them the information they requested at 2:00 p.m. and waited patiently. I called this morning and they told me my papers had been denied so I asked, "For what?" The lady said I can't use a temporary I.D. even though that's good enough for the police and government and also I can't use my car insurance bill but it's still a bill. She told me they were rejected and I have to wait until my new I.D arrives in the mail and they need a utility bill or my W2. I will never ever use them again and I'm going to tell everyone how horrible they are. It's not like it's my first time using them. I've had them for 3 years.

Is 0.50 each time you call and 1.00 for ATM withdrawal. They charged me for month I activated card which was unfair. I didn't use card. Very disappointed. Don't use this card for IRS refund...use a regular bank. My mom used other well-known bank and got her money posted next day after IRS sent it to bank. I needed something that was only for debit but that I could still deposit my check onto. And Netspend was really easy to get. They've given me really great service. The employees in NetSpend are all been great. I've called them with any questions or concerns, they're always very helpful, polite, and patient with me, which is hard sometimes because I tend to go off on a rant. I don't get much money on a fixed income with my disability but with Netspend it's easier for me to save a few dollars because I can just take off a certain amount from the card. It also helps me to be able to pay for things online such as bills--it's a lot easier to manage. The best part that I really like the most is that there's no checks so I don't have to worry about anybody else coming in, taking in a check and writing them out, and overdrawing me. It's really great because I can only take out as much as what's in there and they don't ever let me overdraw.
Using Netspend to pay bills is very convenient. The only thing I don't like about that is when I want to send somebody a gift, I go online and I order a gift, and instead of being able to send it to them, I have to send it to myself because if I send it to a different address other than what's on my card, then NetSpend won't release the funds. I understand why they do that--to protect my account so that somebody can't just get my card number and go order a bunch of stuff--but it's a little frustrating when you want to buy somebody a gift.

My account was becoming a forgotten remnant of my spending when I chose to receive a pay card from my next job at AMC. Worst decision ever!!! Either way I knew I was leaving my job because they wouldn't give me sufficient hours to save money. I filed my taxes recently and while I was waiting and checking the status of my refund, my account was closed. I experienced this once for when I didn't use my original card for about 60 days or so.
This time it was because I didn't make a single transaction in 180 DAYS!!! I can understand why. They were going to deactivate both of my cards and luckily, a nice lady was able to help by sending an email to her supervisor to reopen my account and reactivated my cards. The next day my account was reopened and a few days later my refund came. God is good, and netspend is good. Now I can purchase a car and get back in the workforce. Thank you Netspend!

I'm not new to online purchasing, or debit/credit cards, (both from banks and prepaid) but I honestly never thought I would see a situation like the one I am faced with. I made an online purchase through a big national name retailer, many issues came up with the order. I cancelled the order, according to the company I purchased from, they "never took any money, it should be right back on there, though I'm told to tell you it will take 3-5 business days just to follow our script". I didn't think anything of it at first, they are a big company, things happen. I'll wait the 3-5 business days, that's normal-- I'm used to that.
On the sixth business day I called the retailer. They could not understand why I haven't received my money, they "released the money to your banker the moment you cancelled the order". The woman from the company was very helpful in making sure she exhausted all options, she sent it to several departments that deal with various levels of purchases and refunds. After five more business days I decided to contact netspend, after a pretty long wait ( agent reported her computer was very slow), I was informed I could either wait 30 days or send in documentation regarding the purchase for review. I've emailed the required things and I'm currently waiting to hear back from them.
I personally have never had this big of an issue with getting money back even with pre-paid cards like netspend. I surely would have taken the cash off of the netspend card and added it to an easier card to use had I known so much of my money could be caught up in the netspend red tape for this long. I would hate for anyone to expect what I expected and miss their rent payment or other important bills through no fault of their own.

I called Netspend because I had just found out this afternoon that something I had ordered on the 5th of February was cancelled on the 11th and I had received a refund without my knowledge. So when I called Netspend trying to figure out why the refund wasn't on my card they told me that I had already spent it. I had talked to 3 reps today and each one had hung up on me because I wanted to know where my refund was.
The first lady I talked to told me that I never received a refund because the order wasn't made but I have the confirmation email saying the order was shipped. So obviously the money was taken off and the order was made. Then the 2nd lady told me the order was made on their end but not the websites end. Which made no sense to me because if it wasn't made on the website's end then how was my money spent?
She then proceeded to tell me that the refund was on my account already when I was looking at the transaction myself on my computer and I did not see any refund on there. The last man I spoke to told me the transaction was made but the refund was received on the 6th but the website's customer service had told me it was sent the 11th and I have the email I was sent today stating that it was sent the 11th. I never received any notification of the order being cancelled or about a refund. It was never put onto my card. And the website's customer service had told me that I had to speak with my card holder because they had sent the refund.
I would just like to know how hard is it to give someone back the money that they didn't know they were getting back? Until this afternoon I was still expecting a package until I called to track my package. I've attached photos of my transaction page where there is no refund shown and the emails i have received from both Netspend and the website.

I was with Green Dot for seven years and I left them for NetSpend. I've been with NetSpend for a little over a year now. My husband and I have two different cards from NetSpend - Western Union and PayPal - and we both have our disability checks deposited each month. I had Green Dot, but I started hearing more positivity with NetSpend because there were more benefits: there's the overdraft protection, less monthly fees when you have your direct deposit, and the withdrawal of cash is less at an ATM.
I've talked to the NetSpend representatives a few times for cash transaction information that I couldn't receive on my mobile phone, which is something I would like to see more of. When you put in deposit, it gives you your last deposit for 30 days. I'd like to be able to go a little bit further when you use the text messaging for the transaction history. I don't have a computer, so I have to do everything mobile. And sometimes when the website's down you have a hard time logging in, so I do a lot of everything through the text messaging.
Problem is, the normal pay date of government checks is on the first of each month. But it seems like those checks come in a week earlier than they're supposed to and we're only getting ours for SSDI two days earlier. It used to be that we get your Social Security check up to five days sooner. My one card comes through Bancorp and my other card is through Medibank. Social Security releases checks earlier to those two banks, and then Netspend waits for them to come through Bancorp and Medibank. But it's just odd that SSI and VA benefits come in a lot sooner than the SSDI checks. That's been one of the major complaints people have been complaining about on our NetSpend group chats. I hope it would help the people at NetSpend to realize "Hey we're losing a lot of people because of this."
My overall experience has been great so far and I hope that we can continue to do the refill card through the store because a lot of these places want you to take your actual debit card to deposit money. My brothers and I all live in the same state but we're 200 miles away, and we lend each other money. But you can no longer get a money pack at a store. I'm hoping that NetSpend continues to have those refillable things where if I need to borrow money off my brother, he's able to do that because he doesn't have a NetSpend card. This way he can still call me with the numbers so I can deposit it on to my card. There's a lot of room for improvement but I have no complaints right now.

Netspend is withholding my IRS tax refund. I was told on Jan.30, 2015 that my card had been shipped to my address. I called on Feb. 12, 2015 to ask where my card was and was told it takes 7-10 business days for the card to ship. From Austin Texas to Sarasota, FL. The USPS says any mail inside the US takes 2-8 days (not business days). I called back 2/12/15 and was told that I should just wait. When I told them that I wanted my money transferred to another account, I was told that they were not able to do that. And after an hour, finally spoke to a supervisor who told me that a new card would be expedited overnight on UPS.
The following day, 2/13/15, no delivery. I also received an email on the 13th saying that my card had been reported stolen. I called again on 2/14/15 asked again to have at least some of the funds transferred to another account, they again refused. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told that it would be a 30-45 minute wait. So, I waited. The supervisor this time told me that they never use UPS and I would have to wait 2 business days to receive my newly expedited card, and was told again that they were not able to transfer my funds, unless it was to another Netspend account that had been open for at least 30 days. When I asked for his superior, I waited another 20 minutes and when the phone was picked up, I was immediately hung up on, never receiving a call back.

Another good thing is that I can use the card to pay bills and buy things online. But the only thing I did not like is I was charged for something on my card a week ago and they cancelled my whole card so they made it inconvenient for me because I had to use my son's card and it charged me every time I had to use it. Other than that, my experience was great. It's perfect with NetSpend.

I received my tax refund on the NetSpend card because it would get to me the fastest, and I don't have a checking account due to some fraudulent activity on my old one. Anyway, I set my pin, went to use the card, and it said the pin was wrong. I figure, no problem, I'll just reset the pin. Maybe it didn't take. Called the customer service line, was connected to a customer service rep almost instantly after stating I didn't have my pin.
The representative on the line said she could set up the reset, but she would have to put me back on the automated system. Fine. Once I got to the automated system, it gave me the option to change my pin, but for a card that was not mine. There were no other options, so I hung up and tried again. The next person said that the reset was available, but that I had to hang up and try again using the automated system. Did that and like the first time it almost immediately connected me to a representative.
Explained the situation AGAIN and AGAIN. Was transferred to the automated system, where AGAIN the reset was for a card that was not mine. Hung up and called back, was told I needed to hang up and use the automated system. The customer service reps before were polite but seemed confused like they didn't know what they were doing but the last guy I talked had the most condescending tone I had ever heard. He explained the instructions as if he were talking to a baby. Finally it worked after 30 minutes of trying. After the card is emptied, it's getting cut.

I needed a prepaid debit card I could use for online purchases, NetSpend seemed the way to go then. It helped a lot for me to have a direct deposit as well as money transfer options between checking and savings, which is pretty cool. It has a lot of cool features too. Fast, direct deposit transactions, very little problem using it in ATMs and it's just pretty simple to use. It's pretty convenient. It's gotten better over time since from my understanding, NetSpend has been enhanced several years ago. For instance I like how you can send a text message to get a balance inquiry. I think it's an overall better experience since it's been enhanced.
I've called their reps several times when I was having issue, with a pending transaction or somewhere along the lines, and they were always willing and able to help me. I recommended NetSpend to several other family members as well. For me it's an easy to use service and highly effective.

When I called back because of the additional charges the second time, I was informed you cannot change your plan mid-month you have to wait until the 1st of the month to change, the fees cannot and will not be refunded!
And everytime I use my card at any ATM NetSpend locks my card do it cannot be used then charges me $0.50 to call and fix this issue! Again these charges cannot and will not be refunded! In 7 days I have collectively been on the phone with this company's customer service department 10 hours! Their customer service is foreign and is very unfriendly and very rude! NetSpend is where I get the bulk of my check and direct deposits to. I also like their overdraft protection. When I used it initially, it was just a little free direct deposit service and I simply wanted my check to come in quicker than they were processed through the bank. Now if I go to some places, they give me cash back also. I also use my NetSpend card to pay bills and make online purchases. I go online and I check my account. Sometimes I transfer money from one card to another card, like I've got my little girl with one card and I give her money, and one of my friends has a NetSpend account and I've been transferring some money to her too.
The staff at NetSpend are pretty good and everybody's been nice. One time I paid something and the cellphone company had a hold on my money but I called NetSpend and told them I never received it. I had been trying to deal with this cellphone company for a month. So I called NetSpend and NetSpend released it within 24 hours. I've recommended NetSpend to a couple of my friends. My federal taxes were processed by IRS on Feb 1st. I was told by IRS (through the web site) my taxes will arrive on my NetSpend card on Feb 6. On Feb 6 I still did not have the NetSpend card. I called and a customer service rep tells me it won't arrive till Feb 11, at the earliest. I informed her I had one from last year's taxes. She told me there was a block on it and I need a purchase on it to transfer my taxes. She proceeded to tell me she would get block lifted but would take 6 hrs. She was unsure if I could purchase with a block on it. I searched locations and tried to make a purchase, I was denied. I waited until the next morning (after the 6 hrs) and was still denied. When I finally spoke to a rep he says he doesn't see that a request to lift the block was processed and I could not transfer because both cards have to be 30 days old. Basically he informed me I had to wait for card to arrive and nothing could be done.
Here it is Feb 9th and after working very hard all year to earn these taxes I have to sit and wait for a card to appear in my mail box. Very frustrating dealing representatives that completely misinformed me and I have a large sum of money I earned but can't get to. Very disappointed and will never use NetSpend again!

I've had both good and bad experiences with NetSpend. I’ve had a really bad experience with one individual and I’ve never in my life had wanted to have somebody terminated at their job like this individual. He just was not listening to what I was telling him. There was also another time when I submitted a claim for $231 and got denied but they didn't tell me why. They tell you one time to file your claims online but then they tell you to call them and then they don't communicate at all. But NetSpend is a rather innovative way to get your money and use your money without having to pay bank fees. Banks hold your money. They're gaining interest off your money the moment they arrive. Not so with NetSpend. It has its faults but I’m currently happy with them right now. I’m able to pay my bills online and off-line through a virtual card, pay stuff online, get replacement cards.

Horrible experience with NetSpend. Every time I've called customer service or logged into my account, all my stuff is messed up. The last person I talked to at NetSpend was disrespectful and told me, "Oh well, you can't access your account because it's not yours." Yeah right, I've had them as my same bank for almost five or six years now. Then they're trying to tell me that my old account wasn't active anymore and that I had to open up a brand new account for this new card, trying to get me all confused. So I know when I get paid, I had to switch banks because of them telling me that my money's not available to be taken out of my account.
Last month, my money hit my bank account. They sat there and told me that I was not able to get my money. I had to transfer it from the old account to the new account and all this other jazz, and I'm like, what the hell? So I just got sick of it and when my check gets here, which I don't know when that's gonna be because I had to cancel my direct deposit with NetSpend because I'm not gonna deal with the fact of me not being able to touch my money.
I would not recommend them to anybody. When I first got the bank account, everything was great and wonderful. Two years after I had opened my bank account, I referred my mom and a lot of family members to them and they're like, "Yeah, it's a great bank." Well then it comes down to especially the last seven or eight months where it's like my bank account just kept flip-flopping, and I didn't know what was going on with it. I'll just find another bank.

Even better, I get my pay, depending on which company it is, usually two days sooner than everyone else. Customer service is good. It’s not the best in the world but they’re on top of it. The representatives seem very limited in their ability. But other than that it’s been great. It's so much better than a bank. It’s idiot-proof. I’ve used direct deposit with multiple employers and multiple situations and that is the best part. If you return something at a store, a new policy stores are doing, they won’t give you cash. If you’ve used a debit card or a credit card, they’ll only put it back on that card. With American Express, it takes 72 hours and it’s a real pain. But with NetSpend, five minutes and it’s on there.

I have had an account for several years, and have ONE card. According to the automated system, there are multiple cards under my ssn. Oh really?! Customer Service is a joke. They say they need to do one thing to help, they do another (instead of disputing a claim, they reported the card stolen and I could not access hundreds of dollars for 2 weeks while they ** me around and "forgot" to send me a replacement card).
Random charges in other countries pop up on my account from time to time, only to be told they must have been in error because they see nothing on their end - yet the money is taken out and their only answer is to lock the account, keeping me from my money for 10-14 days and eventually send me a replacement card. There is absolutely NO WAY to transfer your funds OUT of the account so they are not sucked into whatever vortex of shadiness is brewing within their company. You can put money IN from your bank or paypal, but this place is like the Hotel California - your money can never leave - unless you spend it and even then, they pick and choose at random to decline charges for no reason (but never those unauthorized ones overseas, go figure).
So now I am sitting here with another transaction in China popping up (amazing how it happens right after a large deposit is put into the account every time) and there is not a single person working to try to keep my entire tax refund from becoming someone's fun money. That's right, there is no 24-hr service where you can report a lost/stolen card. You can sit there and just watch those text notices as your balance depletes, and can do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to stop it until 8am CT! Thanks for another sleepless, stress-filled night NetSpend!

And not to mention the customer service menu doesn't offer you to wait on hold. The menu just forces you to have a call back time, and they don’t call back for 2-4 hours. RIDICULOUS! What the hell!!! I will NEVER RECOMMEND this card to anyone.

I received a card in the mail that required me to activate the card with my Social Security number. I never applied for a card so if this had gotten lost or stolen someone could have activated the card in my name. I tried to contact the company but was never able to get through on either the activation phone number or the customer service phone number (due to increased call volume, yeah right) I never activated the card. I cut it up, you should do the same and put this company out of business. Most banks and credit unions today offer this service FOR FREE!! Don't pay for a loadable card. Drop your money in a credit union and setup direct deposit there for free. Don't pay these credit card companies to take your money.

I contacted NetSpend because I needed a bank account and I didn’t want to do the regular bank - I figured Netspend was more convenient. They let me know when I make a withdrawal or when the card has been used. That way, if I lose my card, it instantly sends me a notification and I really like that. I have the direct deposit of my job wage and taxes, and it's very easy... All I had to do is provide routing and account number. When I had lost my card, I called them and they immediately cancelled it and sent me out another one, but I need to call them because I did have a customized card and when they sent me my new one, it’s a regular black card. I have paid the $4.99 to have a customized card made before I lost it. Nevertheless, I absolutely love NetSpend! I recommend them to everybody. Plain and simple!

Very pissed! TurboTax was easy to use and navigate so when wrapping up my taxes 2015 Turbo Taxes recommend NetSpend I assumed they were representing a reputable company! Today in Jan 31 2015 I filed my taxes 1/22/2015. Somehow the IRS was able to receive, process, review, accept and direct deposit my return before NETSPEND could mail me a card from TEXAS TO PA! That's amazing work wouldn't you say? NOT SO DESERVING OF A PAT ON THE BACK!
I calmly called customer service for NETSPEND where I believe I'm routed to India (no joking matter) where I tell the halfwit that my federal return was deposited to NETSPEND three days ago and the card has yet to arrive!!!! She informs me that a replacement card has been sent. HUH? WAIT, WHAT REPLACEMENT???? Why I ask, Oh she replies most people have a temporary card first but since mine is a permanent card I ordered they refer to that as replacement. NO THAT IS NOT A REPLACEMENT. Sorry sweetie it's a CARD, ORIGINAL CARD, replacement would be replacing something but you can't replace something you never had (I learned this is maybe 3rd grade). Realizing I'm in a heap of trouble I hang up before she does try and send me a replacement card only further delaying what is already a long and brutal process!
I try contacting customer service 10 or so more times but they are experiencing higher than normal call volume. HMMMM WONDER WHY?? MUST NOT BE ALONE IN MY BATTLE! So only option is to press 1 receive a callback when the next CSR is available ONLY OPTION or call will end, I did this ten or so times. 3 times after receiving my security code they gave me when I requested call back because they value my security. LMAOOO. The call drops ironically, four times I'm called back and actually placed on hold average hold time 19 minutes before call again fails. LOL. 3 or so times I never received a call back!
I'M IN A TWILIGHT ZONE AND NETSPEND is obviously incompetent, shady at best, lacking educated representatives and have the slowest mail delivery system in United States! I'm sure this is just a taste of what is to come. I'm slightly panicked and growing angrier by the minute, but realizing NETSPEND for me wouldn't exist without TURBOTAX, I am holding them accountable for this mess. Come mid next week no card or access to my money and FOX 29 will know what's bugging ME and I am sure I will not be alone at that party! BE SMART. DO NOT USE A SERVICE REPRESENTING A COMPANY LIKE NETSPEND.

My NetSpend card was wiped out in a another country. Been with NetSpend for over 3 years. NETSPEND CSRs were very rude, kept hanging up the phone on me, even a Supervisor hung up. However I called Meta Bank who Netspend uses. Very nice CSR gave me a different number. Wow they didn't hang up on me. OK so was told to fax a dispute form and it would take 10 days. However it only took one day!!! Long story short...always inform Consumer Affairs So everyone will be aware of what's going with their Business.

We picked NetSpend because it was convenient. In the beginning, it was a little different than it is now. But it was convenient for my wife and I to both be able to access the account without having a brick and mortar bank. I like the Internet bank. I use it with my direct deposit. My wife both have a copy of the same card, so we can always transfer money back and forth to one another without having to worry about any fees. That $9.95 hasn't changed since I got it for years, and I like the stability of it. I like the way they upgrade it, the security. And whenever we've had any trouble with the current card that we have, identity theft or anything like that, it was taken care of. Any kind of issues that I have with security, they gave me alerts. Considering the fact that anybody touches the account, I get that automatic alert.
As far as customer service, they've been great. One of the times, it was kind of hard to understand because they have really heavy accents, but over a period of time you get used to that. It was to the point where you couldn't really understand them, they brought somebody that you could actually understand, and it was always taken care of. I haven't had any trouble with them. I'm extraordinarily happy with NetSpend. I like the dependability and the convenience of the Internet bank. The customer service was superb, and I've already recommended them.

It's been a wonderful and tremendous experience with NetSpend. Direct deposit is easy, faster, and safer. I just wish it's a little bit safer though cause when the person makes a mistake when you enter the pin number, they have to answer with the social security number. Anybody could have a social security number to reset the pin number. So I wish that part could change. Other than that everything is fine and great. I've been a customer since 2003.

My wife has had her taxes loaded on a netspend card for three years in a row now. When this year, the address was mis-typed; two of the numbers got switched when I input them into the computer, therefore sending the card to the wrong house. Upon realizing it my wife and I both contacted netspend where a very positive, very easy to understand representative helped me resolve the situation. They asked the standard questions, most standard tests for id verification purposes, along with 3 question pulled from supposedly the credit bureau. Having answered all questions correct, they still locked my account before my deposit went in.
What Netspend also did was sent me an email giving me a link to access the online setup of the card, but just basic features. They allowed me to set it up and allowed a charge of 5.25 on my account to order a new card, replace the one the card that was sent to the wrong house. They also had the nerve to make the account accept the five dollar service fee, even though the card or account had never been activated. So now my wife has a negative balance to top it off.
She woke up the next morning, finally got a response from Netspend stating we need to provide a social security card, any utility bill with her name and the current address both on the mailing label. And she was able to get everything but a utility bill with her name. I mean come on netspend, allow more documents that are acceptable. Most people I know have only one person in the home puts their name on the utilities. I had to start service for Water in her name just to get a statement to have what netspend wants. I mean it's getting so bad I feel that I could even tell them both previous address from the past two prior years, all of which I even know the deposit amounts of each.
Keep in mind, both these two other cards have separate account numbers different user names. But still, no matter what questions were answered correctly are wanting the Utility Bill. Well I am currently waiting for the water bill with her name and address on it. I hope once verification is sent, that they the don't delay any longer than usual, and I just hope that this is the last time Netspend ever need to verify her identity again.
It's now later in the afternoon and our roommate, who also used TurboTax and they both got the same approval date and only a two hour time difference between the receiving of the Refunds on both cards, But the minute the deposit went through for my roommate, who by the way was notified to log on to netspend online where she was asked three questions two all if which I know were 100% correct, and still she got "There is a problem your account" message. I don't understand why this company is making it so hard for my wife and her friend who have been loyal customers of netspend for at least five years. I have 4 kids and my wife and due to the fact that.

I'm on a fixed income and with Netspend, it's nice to know when my money's coming in. It's nice to know every penny that I spend, because I get the texts which is great. I know there was a time when my card had been stolen; somebody who lived with me was using it and I didn't know until I got the text. So it works perfectly in that situation too. Netspend stepped forward and took care of it, and I got my money back in a very timely manner. It was wonderful. Honestly, the only problem I have with Netspend is if I go to a gas station and I use my card to get the gas out of the pump there without going to the pumps people, it holds my money for a while.
Their staff were very helpful and very sympathetic to my calls. Whenever my card was stolen, I had to shut it off. Even when I get the card back, they have to shut it down to have them do the investigation so they could get my money back to me. Which meant I couldn't use it anymore and I still had money on it. It was a little bit of an inconvenience there but they were still very helpful to me. They explained everything, and I get my money back.
I've recommended them to two, three people who have Netspend now and they're happy to have them. Having NetSpend card has been the most comfortable I've been with having someone else having control of my money. I do know where every penny goes and when it goes. I'm very confident, pleased, happy and at ease with their service.

I ended up with bad credit and needed a prepaid credit card. I wanted a way to buy things off the internet without using a regular credit card. That way I was able to stay in my budget if I hadn't had the money in my card - I couldn't even spend it. I was in a currency exchange at Madison and Central and learned about NetSpend. Since using the card I've been able to manage my finance just fine. I appreciate getting emails telling me what I spent and what I didn’t spend. I also like the fact that my SSI comes in 4 days early. It's a great benefit. I’ve called a couple of times just to find out what day would be the earliest my SSI would come in. With no credit, there's no over-extending my pay checks so using NetSpend has worked out perfectly for me. I definitely benefited from using their direct deposit option. I'm retired on Social Security. Should I happen to go a little bit over my limit by mistake, it has never declined me, and that has been very beneficial at a couple of times. I guess it's because they know that there's always gonna be a deposit coming into the account every month. One time I was locked out of my account for some reason and the operator just bent over backwards to see to it that it was corrected, and did a follow-up later just to double-check that everything had come out all right. I was very pleased with the response of the team. Netspend has been simply great.

Using Netspend card helped me budget myself more. When I have my bank account, I always just take my money out. But with NetSpend, you know they charge the extra charge going to the ATM. So what I do is just pay everything online and whatever balance that I have left over, I just have to use it off the card. Cause most of the time I can't swipe it all. I was a customer of NetSpend for over 8 years. Everything was fine. I was receiving my paychecks early; my son's social security checks were deposited early, etc. I was a customer of NetSpend when they were giving out consumer payday loans and quite frankly, enjoyed it. A year ago, my NetSpend card was stolen at work. I called in and cancelled that card and was told to go to Check Depot and purchase a new card and call the NetSpend headquarters once I made my purchase. I called in to NetSpend and activated the card and then called into to have my payroll check of over $900 transferred to the newly activated card. Lo and behold, the next day I was unable to use the card.
I called in and held onto the phone for customer services for over 5 days before I was finally directed to the fraud department. Upon making contact with the fraud department, I was told that my e-mail had been taken down, all active accounts (including my savings account) was disabled and that I was no longer a customer of NetSpend's because I had commitment fraud!!!! I then asked the question: HOW COULD I COMMIT FRAUD on my own account!!!! I was told I closed out one account to commit fraud on another opened card. For the record, NetSpend only gave $100 overdraft service and even with the overdraft service you can only use $80 of that since they deducted $15 off the bat and $5 to use the ATM machine.
It didn't make any difference that NetSpend had made plenty money off me over 8 years thru service charges - finance charges off their consumer loans of $500 per payday and not to mention the excess money that they made with my income tax refunds when they changed the rules in the middle of the game and said that you can only withdraw $300 at a time, scaling their ATM charges. If you took all of that into consideration with a $7000 income tax return and divide $300 x $2.50, look at the money that was made. However, I thank them very much for dumping me on such IGNORANT accusations!!!!

I thought it was just like other gift cards, until I realized that to activate it I had to create an account and hand over all my person info. Then we tried to go out to eat with it and were told we could pay with it, but couldn't leave a tip with it, so I ended up using my regular credit card. When we got charged on BOTH my credit card and Netspend I tried to dispute the charge on Netspend, but unlike a normal credit card, they required all this proof of a canceled transaction so they held my money hostage for an entire week before I could use the card again. THEN I realized they charge you a fee for every transaction, and when my balance dropped down below $20, they charged me the ENTIRE balance even though I had only spent $8. So when I just tried to get a coffee I got REJECTED. Now I'm ready to just throw in the towel and cancel the card before I forget and get charged a ridiculous "Inactivity fee." NEVER buy these cards for a loved one as a gift. They're objectively THE WORST.

My card gives me an option to have the flexibility to have extra money whenever I don't overuse it - it gives me that overdraft option. It's not like most banks where you get $35 or $40 each and every time, so it has its benefits to help me out in emergency purposes as I need it.
I recently used the reload and it worked out well. Only thing that I had a problem with is that they could only load $500 at a time so that was kind of limited, but I was good with it. I would basically do two transactions to get it done.

When we called the customer service line, the woman, who barely spoke English, was also unable to locate card. She would not help in any way even though I have the full receipt including the $3 activation charge, and activation number. When we tried to speak with a supervisor, she would not allow us on 3 different instances to speak with anyone and would not give us her name or the name of her supervisor. In addition, she transferred us to an empty voice mail as a way to get rid of us. This is absolutely ridiculous as we just wanted another card issued in the same amount. STAY AWAY!!!!! THIS COMPANY IS BAD NEWS!!!

NetSpend is excellent. What I Like about it is I can go over $10 on the amount that I get in a month. I always use it for direct deposit as I get a check from the U.S. Treasury.
We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us. Thank you for the review.

My fiance had his pay check direct deposited into his brand new never used before NetSpend prepaid debit card. We were able to pay 2 bills and then they locked his account until they received 3 forms of identification..ie: SS card, ID, and a utility bill with his name and correct address, they accepted his ID and the mail but refused his SS card and note we are being evicted because we can't access the money. They require 6 "business hours" to review documents. Well it has been almost 12 hours now and we still can't get to the money. Our landlord is graciously giving us until Monday to get rent paid, PLEASE IF ANYONE CAN HELP US GET TO THE FUNDS ASAP please help us! What wait until AFTER his money is on card before asking for proof of identity? He also got a text alert saying his new card was shipped out yesterday and he never ordered a new card. I have received 3 NetSpend cards thru the mail I didn't order also.
Updated on 01/13/2015:
This is an update of my January 3rd review. I feel like it is only fair to convey to the consumers what has transpired with our NetSpend account. I'm writing this review from the front seat of our Mustang, because we no longer have a place to live. NetSpend was gracious enough to send an email wanting to resolve the situation. I made several attempts to respond to the emails and even called and left messages twice to no avail. When we were finally contacted we were informed that the account was closed by NetSpend and they will be issuing the remaining balance of $842.00. By check thru the mail, refunding the money that was DIRECT DEPOSITED onto his PREPAID card.
It has now been 10 days since this all began. We are patiently waiting for them to refund the money they wouldn't let us withdraw. This whole ordeal has created a snowball effect that has left us homeless and our creditors calling. I guess the one bright spot in this is NetSpend closed the account which forced my husband to open a bank account so his check could be direct deposited into a real bank account. I just wanted to inform other consumers of NetSpend just exactly what they can expect from this company. To be fair to NetSpend I will update this review as soon as we receive our money back. Which we were told to expect in 20 days. Thank you NETSPEND for giving me the chance to find out just what it's like to be homeless.

Am very concerned about receiving credit card in the mail that I did not apply for. Called NetSpend to complain, was on hold to talk to a supervisor for over one hour then hung up. Checked online who to complain to & found this web site. Also, have email of NetSpend CEO & will send complaint.

Everything's been great with NetSpend thus far. I haven't had any problems with them. They have been accurate. I have the alert system and every time my check falls from the job, they inform me. I draw money, put money in, and they inform me. So it's been a great experience for me. I would recommend them and actually I have.
