In 2009 I decided to order something online. I had to have a debit card to do that. I bought a Netspend card. It turned out to be one of the greatest things I've done. I get my pay direct deposit on there. I have took it all over the United states. When I need a few dollars before payday they let me draw an extra ten I don't even have and they have never charged me an overdraft fee. I truly love my Netspend card. I got my son one and when he needs money I transfer some to him he gets in about two minutes. He lives in okla. I live in texas.

When I first started getting social security, they recommended that I get a debit card and ACE Check Cashing was near my house so I just utilized that. I use NetSpend for the direct deposit to make it a little easier to get my check in. Some places charge a fee so I don't see it useful to use at a restaurant or at stores because of the charges. I've had to deal with a few issues of direct deposit with another job I have and their representatives walked me through it and fixed everything that I needed to get done. They were real helpful. NetSpend has a good website to get on and get off to check your balances and they have a good app that works well too, for the same thing.

I would highly recommend Netspend to anyone! I had bad issues earlier with a credit union, and a friend suggested the NetSpend card through HEB Grocery Company. I went and got one, and it was the best thing I ever did! The direct deposit for my paycheck hits when all others are waiting until Friday. The savings account is a plus, too! Accessing my account online is great! I've never had any issues with this card, and I hope to continue to get the same great service here on out!

I have been using the NetSpend card for approx 1 1/2 years now and what it does, is to allow me to pay bills online with the amount I have had deposited automatically onto the card. Easily pays groceries, lunches, dinners and any other debit swipe I need to do. Also it's easy to get cash advance at retail stores or banks. I am very grateful to NetSpend Card for all they do. Also have won a few extra dollars from the tutorials I complete at the PayPerks site, and a refresher course is not bad either on topics such as finances, budgeting etc. just to name a few. Hope to stay with you for a long time.

When I changed my address NetSpend deactivated my card because I used a P.O. box as my mailing address along with my physical address. They did this twice and never even notified me that they were doing so until I tried to use my card. Twice two of my bills were late because of this. The times I spoke with someone, I was not able to understand the individual I was speaking with.

I was severely abused financially by Wells Fargo... Not only did they NOT protect me from becoming prey for a scumbag identity thief, they CHARGED ME for the damage that was done to my account and sent those charges to a collections agent before even notifying me of their existence!!! NetSpend's Acct Alert option gives me up to date, on the spot monitoring of what is going on with my money when EACH transaction happens, as it happens! NetSpend has helped me avoid any instance of over/under payment. Also, NOBODY can access my money accept ME!
Plus, the NetSpend card helps me easily conduct business online that would otherwise be a nightmare. I have a NetSpend card for my day to day transactions, and one for the business I conduct through Western Union... I think it would be perfect if all the private agencies I conducted business with each issued their own NetSpend Pre-Paid MC/VISA Card! Also, but MOST importantly, thanks to their fraud prevention services, which are REAL! Not the fantasies most commercial banks call security. Thank you to NetSpend.

I have been with NetSpend for over 4 years now. It's safe and consistent. This card has helped manage my money better than a traditional bank because you can only spend what's on the card. With a traditional bank, I feel like they set you up to overdraft all the time. They always have your transactions pending for a few days even though the money is available at the time you swipe your card. I know it is my responsibility to keep up with the amount of money I spend. But I love that I get a text message and email right after any transaction and the money is deducted immediately.
It's been a great experience and even though I can always go back to a traditional bank I choose to keep my prepaid card. I get my direct deposit a day before which is also great. They do not hold your money. I just wish that more companies would honor prepaid cards because sometimes I can't use it for certain things and that is what makes me want to go back to the traditional bank.

The way the card works in general is fine however the fee should be lower or free if we have a certain amount going on as direct deposit. I however am not happy that the website has been down for days. Not being able to log into my account is not a good thing & makes me very leery about them at this point. If a website that handles people's money is down, it should say so on the site that it's being serviced and for how long. This is very upsetting!

I went through a bad financial time. I lost my bank account and could not get another one because a guy came in and tried to refinance my house. He took me for $45,000 in equity, flipped the house, kicked me out of it and took every dime that I had in my bank account. Because of that, no bank would touch me. I had to cash paychecks at ACE Cash Express 'cause I no longer had direct deposit. They told me that I could go to them and get direct deposit through them. I got a hold of NetSpend and explained my situation to them and they said they could help me. They gave me an account and a routing number. I put it up through my employer and I got perks from doing it that way.
I didn't have to carry cash and I can do whatever I need to do online with my NetSpend Card. However, if I don't pay the $5 monthly fee, I'm charged every time I use my debit card. But, if I do 60 transactions a month, it saves me money in the long run. It's also fast and secure. I feel very confident when I use it and I feel I'm not going to be taken advantage of. They also give me warnings all the time if there's something that they're not sure of. Like when I first moved out here to Iowa, they didn't know I had moved because I hadn't contacted them yet. And when I did a purchase out here, they immediately sent an email to me that said, "Your card was just used in Iowa. Was this you?" So, I was pleased.
However, I had to find a reload relocation when I first moved to Iowa. When I finally did, I needed to load a bit of money but the reload location would only let me do up to $500 per transaction and I had to wait a full 24 hours in between each transaction. I had to use Wal-Mart and send $900 at a time to my wife which was inconvenient. If I had been in Vegas, there would have been no problem.
There's also been a couple of times I had to call and change my address. I had some money that needed to be transferred and they only allow six transfers by law federally from your savings to your checking account. I didn't take out enough money one time and so it was at my sixth time. But, the CS reps had a difficult time understanding English every time I called them.
The one time I called them up, my direct deposit wasn't registering. My work would send the direct deposit but it wouldn't go through until four days later. The same thing was happening with payments. I called them and the rep said she was looking at my account and everything seemed to be fine. I told her it shows I'm in the negative and I've got bounced stuff that's being rejected and I've got accounts that are telling me I don't have payments to them. I was literally on the phone with that rep for two hours before she was able to get a supervisor and helped me find out what had happened. The guy was talking fast and he didn't make much sense.
Then, I was not scheduled to receive two new cards but I did. When I called the customer service and I asked them about it, they said that they automatically issue new cards when the old ones are about to expire. But my old ones don't expire until 2016. They said they didn't know why the cards were sent and couldn't tell me if there were multiple accounts under my name. I was concerned that somebody had set up an account bouncing off of my name and was using a card. I had seen some charges for $2, $4 and $1.50 that were coming out on random once a month and I wasn't doing anything. For the most part, I'm very happy with NetSpend. But I'm probably going to cancel my account because out here in Iowa, it's not functional as far as reload locations. It's not something I use all the time. But I may keep it merely for a place to store some money and keep it in there. I just don't have the ability to load money to it.
We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us. Thank you for the review.

I like NetSpend because I get notifications when I spend money. I get an immediate balance without having to look it up or go to the bank. It's also easy with direct deposit. Direct deposits are not held up like when they get sent to the bank, where they're held up for two or three days. My direct deposits for NetSpend come right in as soon as they're transmitted, so that's a very nice convenience. I've only had to call them one time because I was having trouble accessing my account online and they were very helpful. I really enjoyed speaking with them. I'll keep recommending them to anybody that I know.

A friend of mine had NetSpend for a while and she really liked them. So I went ahead and signed up and I've also liked them ever since, it's been a great experience. I have recommended NetSpend to everyone I know. The company itself is awesome. Claims are resolved fairly quickly. I also like the fact that once contact is made, the card is automatically blocked. Great customer service, I've had no big issues with them and I'm definitely satisfied.
I never really thought about a prepaid card prior to NetSpend 'cause I always had a banking institution I would bank with. But my friend said she actually would receive her paychecks on Wednesday as opposed to waiting until Friday. That was big and convenient for me because of child care and needing to be paid on certain days. Wednesday is like one of those days where either something is due prior or something is due on that particular day. For whatever reason, my bills typically always go around the time I get paid and being able to pay them on time or even earlier has been awesome. I was checking my credit score today and it increased all because I'm able to pay my bills on time, if not earlier, because of NetSpend.
I usually do direct deposit and I have yet to use their reload feature. I also use the feature where I can take a picture of a check and deposit it as well as it's easier for me to do that. There was only one time that I had an issue with loading a check, only because the button was hidden. But NetSpend representatives were very friendly when I called and taught me how to find it. I just had to hover over it and it will pop up. Ever since then, no issues at all.
I did have a run-in with NetSpend, not too long ago, where I went on a cruise and the card where my debit card was attached to was lost and used. I reported everything and the information that was relayed to me via the NetSpend customer service representative was different each time I called in regards to the claim. Ultimately someone very knowledgeable completely broke it down to me. She explained everything so clearly and made the experience a lot better.

So, it's really helpful. I frequently use their direct deposit. Some of their reps are okay but the others were not so good. The other day, I was speaking to someone and telling him that the information that he was giving me was incorrect because I have the card for a while now so I know how things work. I asked to speak to a manager and he threw me back in the queue. That was a bad experience. The rep should be more willing to listen to what's going on. One of my co-workers back in 2004 told me about NetSpend. I've been with them for so long and things have changed over the years. Being able to get my check two to three days earlier was the biggest plus, but for some reason, I don't get it that early anymore. After I started dealing with it, the customer service was great, but I don't get that anymore either. My overdraft is very good, though, and I really like having it. However, I'm a little bit upset with some of the policies on it, but the rules are the rules. Also, the ease of being able to use my card anywhere is definitely a benefit. I use NetSpend both to pay bills and make online purchases, which is great. It's very convenient. It's likewise for their reload locations although I do direct deposit more frequently.
My most recent experience dealing with the NetSpend team, I spoke with a young lady. I covered my overdraft before the time period had expired and the $15 did not go back to my account. I was explaining to her that I understood I was previously overdrawn, that I had covered that one and I knew I wasn't getting that $15 back. But the second time I overdrew, I was told that I should have refused that payment back because I did it before the 24-hour period. I sat there and I kept quiet while she talked to me and explained to me what she needed to. When she let me know it was my time to talk, she cut me off as soon as I started talking. She threw me on hold and I told her that she was being very rude and disrespectful to me. I was not going to fight with her for the $15 back but I was going to speak with her supervisor to explain how rude she had been.
She put me on hold for a while and said she was transferring me to the supervisor, but it sounded like I went back in the queue. The young lady that I spoke to next said I was transferred to a supervisor. I told her that I was okay with them not giving me my $15 back, that the policy has changed somehow and I wasn't notified. But I couldn't accept the rudeness. I asked to get the earlier rep's information to file a complaint, but she told me that she couldn't do that. She told me she could give me her information and said it was fine if she got the complaint instead of the rude rep. She also said that she would reverse the $15 but would never do it again. I ended up getting my $15 back but I didn't appreciate being disrespected or treated rudely. I'm thinking about leaving NetSpend. The company needs improvement.

During a previous conversation I had with a representative about a old debt that was due to fees which I had closed the card and come to find out the card was still activated so I was told to go back to the store and purchase a new card. Well I purchase the card, place the money on the card, the way that they told me to. They never really told me the amount that I owed so I put what I had on the card. Then I was told that the amount of money that I loaded on the card will go to the old balance that occurred due to fees.
I was fine with that, but now these occurred on the new card. The new card that they told me to purchase. Which will allow the money to transfer to the old card to clear up the balance. So then I activated the new card thinking that they would transfer the money to be all card. Now they activated the card and let accumulate fees instead of transferring the money and putting it on the old account and now I am stuck with two cards. The new card was not supposed to be activated only to be used for a transfer to clear up the other account. I don't understand how a card that's not activated has fees so I tried to get the money transferred to the card that was supposed to the original card I was that I still owe the full balance of the old card and now I have fees that has eaten up the money that I placed on the new card.
So now what am I supposed to do with a card that's not activated and a card that I no longer have been using for over a year and cannot find the card then which they claim is still activated which I tell them to deactivate the card because I no longer had the card. Yes I am very upset with this company. I used to like it but I'm very upset. The customer service representative kept putting me on hold between every conversation and kept repeating the same thing over and over again. Also I was advised to go buy a new card. Why would I want a new card when I just purchased one 4 months ago and they still haven't done what they were supposed to do with the card.

My check goes in automatically and it's there when it's supposed to be there. I can look up online and tell exactly how much is there and what has come out. I like it. I’ve had several times when my card has been used by unauthorized people and it was taken care of immediately. My money was put right back. I've been with NetSpend since 2011, back when I first got my SSR. I used the direct deposit the most. It helped me manage my finances but they kept telling me I overdrew too many times. I had already talked to a supervisor in 2011 about it. I told them that I get SSR, so even though I overdraw so many times, NetSpend is gonna get it back at the end of every month. The supervisor said that was fine and that he was going to put it in the computer as to where I would not lose my overdraft protection. I came to find out that I lost my overdraft protection permanently, so now I can't overdraw anymore. They tell me that the only time I could get my overdraft back is if I open a whole new account. Since they did this, I've been struggling big time.
I also have a dispute with them about the payday loan. I didn't give them permission so they should not have been able to get into my account without contacting me first. They contacted me about that pending charge against me and asked if I would like them to cover it. So now I'm gonna be struggling this month because I have to pay back NetSpend all that $100. I got some serious bills I have to take care of and this is going to cut into those. I never had problems with NetSpend before but I'm not enjoying them now. I'm going to a different company. I already told all of my friends that they shouldn't go to NetSpend. I told them about my experience and they said they would have slapped a lawsuit on NetSpend if it happened to them.
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear you haven't received an update on your dispute claim. Please contact us at social@NetSpend.com and we would be happy to help.

Netspend is convenient. I've had them for about five years now. My money is always almost two days early before my paycheck and I'm continuously updated on what I spend right away. However, I had two disputes with them. The first one was when I was reviewing something online and they charged my card. I lost $92 that day. I had to write a letter to NetSpend to dispute it and had to wait. When I tried to get the money back, NetSpend couldn't give it to me. They couldn't get it together with the company. They sent me a letter in the mail and it said the dispute was canceled. I was so frustrated. The second dispute was for my rent and it was way too much of a process. I had to fax a letter with my name and address then wait for them to get it in three days. I waited 14 days for my $100 back which made me late on rent.

The representatives have been courteous too. They’ve helped me out every way they can before they let me go. I’m pretty satisfied with them. I had heard great things from friends and coworkers regarding NetSpend. Recently, I purchased a NetSpend card to pay bills with that I didn't necessarily want associated with my checking account. Great! Right?! No! I used this same card at the grocery store and couldn't use the entire balance of what I knew to be on the card. After embarrassing moments, and others in line getting anxious, then having to return items from my original check out, my purchases finally went through.
Once home I logged in to my account to find that I had been charged a $2.00 "Pin Transaction Fee". WHAT?!?!? So I called customer service to ask about this charge, and was told that anytime I used my Pin number this would be the cost.... You can bet, I haven't done that again. I have this card set up as direct withdraws for monthly payments I make to various companies. Of course, I am thinking that is the end of the $2.00 Pin Transaction Fee, right? NO AGAIN! Well in fairness, not completely no. I am now being charged $1.00 for every automatic transaction called a, "Debit: Signature Purchase Transaction Fee" that is made on this card. Are you kidding me with this?
A couple of the bill pays to this card are payments of $5.00 and now I'm paying an additional $1.00 "Debit: Signature Purchase Transaction Fee" per transaction. Who can afford all the Pin Transaction Fees/Debit: Signature Purchase Transaction Fees associated with a NetSpend Card? I am baffled. I've read in these reviews that others out here have had this card for years. At what cost? Do I have the wrong NetSpend card? Are there multiple options? Was it because I chose the pink card? At this point, I will not be using my particular NetSpend card again. Personally, I am currently researching other pre-paid cards with better, and more attractive, as well as affordable, costs.

I decided on NetSpend rather than go with a standard checking account so I could take my assets and turn them into liquid right away, which is better suited for me. With NetSpend I don't have to deal with the paper checks. I don't have that many outstanding bills. It's easier to access the money and I just spend the money using the card to purchase items as if I have cash on hand. We have a good record of them and it's easier to keep receipts. I reload with the direct deposit option. I don't have to worry about things getting lost in the mail or someone doing something otherwise. You just have to keep an eye on your account, like you should always. It limits the chance of fraud or stolen identity and spending the money too fast.
There have been a couple of rough moments with NetSpend but they have been fairly responsive and they keep an eye on how things are going. They now realize my spending patterns so things are a little bit easier. The one fly in the ointment is their tendency to react a little slowly than you would wish in case there is an enquiry of a serious nature. But they do have things in place. For example, if you feel that someone might have used or captured information improperly, they immediately cancel that card and send you out another one. The problem is you have to wait for a week to 10 days before getting back to your account. But at least they respond well and they do their best to try and ameliorate a situation that might be potentially dangerous. They were overall good. I would recommend them but still the buyer has to be aware.

I only use Netspend for certain things because I’m starting to get upset with it. I wanted to transfer money but they told me that because I had a dispute from a year ago, I wasn’t allowed to transfer money out of my account so I'm not able to have money at times. That's why I’m thinking of canceling it. When I called customer service, there was a language barrier all the time and some of them didn't understand me talking.
Besides getting my money two days early with NetSpend, I still get taxes taken out. The last time I had my money in that account, I paid $2.00 to buy something out of a store. At $2.00 to use my card is a bit too much. It's not secure with NetSpend too ‘cause I told them that someone called for my account and asked me my security questions. I tested them on several occasions as well and found that it was so easy to get in my account because they didn't ask me for anything aside from my name. Sometimes I'd want to transfer money and they'd go ahead and transfer my money worth the last deposit I had. For that, they wouldn't get the name, address or security code.

Netspend is very unprofessional & they stole my money. I had to report my card stolen & lost multiple times due to unauthorized charges & purchases. I called to dispute the charges which was 34000 dollars. They closed my account without me knowing then froze my online account so I couldn't get my evidence then they kept sending account updates about my disputes to the secured account which I didn't have access to. Then told me I was high risk & that I could never get a account with them. How am I high risk when someone was stealing my money so I'm being punished for disputing.
Then told me they put the 3400 in the closed account & I would have to wait 10 business days for a check. Ok so how & why would they add my money to a account that is closed & that I don't have access to. Sounds weird. They told me they can do that but what sense does that make. Why should I have to wait on my money something that is mine, how can money even be put in a closed account - I just want my money. Shouldn't have to wait 10 business days. I even offered to pay the fees for them to send my money through Fedex or UPS overnight or at least less than 10 business days or if I could get it put in another account. They said they can't do that.
Ok so let me get this right. They can add all my funds to a closed account, cancel my account without telling me & send me updates to a closed account secured inbox - sounds fishy to me & impossible. All I want is my money. This is stressful & I have bills & a disabled child who needs his medicine & I need my medicine as well. Thanks to Netspend I can't get either. Need food, need gas. How hard is it you send my money through UPS or Fedex if I'm offering to pay the fees. I want my money that's it.

So I got a NetSpend card and I like the fact that everything is immediate. If my checking account hits Friday morning through bank transaction, I get my check early, like a Wednesday or Thursday when using NetSpend. When I do a transaction, like a debit or credit card, it goes through immediate and it gives me an instant update of the money left in my account. I also receive a text message every morning regarding my account balance and I can do online banking so I don't need to actually wait on somebody. I like NetSpend a lot.

NetSpend was reasonable with I think $5 per month for the ATM and the use at the groceries stores of the debit card, compared to others charging way too much. With NetSpend, I've been able to manage my finances better and feel that my personal information is more secure. I use the card for purchases, gas and everywhere, and I am able to withdraw money through HCB grocery store, which is like Albertsons. I can also go to Walmart, which is convenient because they let me withdraw an additional $100 on top of what I purchased and I like that. However, when I tried to set it up to make purchases and pay bills online, I found out that it will take 30 days for it to get processed and that’s a little bit too long.
Another issue was when I called the customer service, the prompts weren't right and I would have to figure it out myself. I think NetSpend has to go back and review all that and redo it for the customers because when I called the 1-800 number, it says option 1, 2, 3, and 4. I kept on pressing 0 to get an operator and it would kick me out and say "Bye"! So, I had to start all over again and I was on like that for 30 minutes until I figured to press 1 – "Lost and Stolen", and that's when I got an operator. Then one of the customer service reps said that when it’s very busy, the line will kick me out and say "Bye". I find that not convenient right there. I went online too, to ask a question and I couldn't get any answer. So that’s the only problem, but otherwise, it’s a great card.

I've had NetSpend for over 10 years now and got it at the time when I was having problems with regular banks and a prepaid card would be better for me because I really didn’t like writing checks. A card that only allows me to spend what I have is perfect. There were only two that I knew of back then: AccountNow and NetSpend, and I actually have both. With NetSpend, I like the fact that I get my checks earlier and that is one of the reasons why I stayed with them. I do like the overdraft protection but I seem to use it a little too much, so I’d be able to spend it after a while. I've used the card to pay bills or make online purchases and I haven’t had any problems. At one point, I had problems in renting a car but now most car rental places accept it.
I use the direct deposits and it's easier and less cumbersome. I get charged a lot to go to reload in the places where I go. Whenever I call the customer service, they’re very, very helpful. I had one problem before but I still got what it was that I was looking for after speaking with a supervisor. I have no intentions of leaving NetSpend anytime soon and I’ve actually recommended them to several friends. It's been a good business.

When I moved, I didn’t have a bank account and needed to cash my check. I went to a check cashing place and they had NetSpend, so I had them throw it on there because it was cheaper. And that’s what I’ve been doing ever since. I'm using NetSpend for about nine years now. It's pretty convenient. I really like the text message on my balance, it keeps me up-to-date so I don’t overspend and that really helps a lot. I also like getting my paycheck a day earlier than everybody else. Everybody else gets their check on Friday morning; I get mine on Wednesday night. So while everybody else is waiting to get their check, I’ve already spent mine.
However, their customer service overseas was hard to understand and didn’t know what they were doing. I get a big 401k loan every two years, and this year it was $17,000. I do a bunch of stuff when I get this loan, like home improvements or buy stuff for myself or go on vacation, and it takes a month or two to spend. I tried to get the money deposited in NetSpend from Fidelity and they didn’t want to let it go through and so I had to call the customer service.
Customer service gave me the wrong account number and phone numbers. I fought with them for a week trying to get this money deposited in my account that Fidelity had tried to send. I waited four days then they called me back and said it was too late. They already sent the money back so I couldn’t get my money deposited. It really screwed me up because I needed that. I had people scheduled to come and do yard work, and I had to put them all off and completely screwed up their schedules as well as mine. It was a big wreck.
So I had to start another bank account and have the check sent to me. It took me two weeks to get the check and then it took another 10 days for the check to clear. It took me another month to get my money because NetSpend could not have it deposited. It was a very bad experience and I was very frustrated with it. I’m gonna be doing the loan every two years, so now I can’t use the NetSpend account, which means I got to go to another bank and open one. I might as well change my whole direct deposit to the bank if they’re gonna be treating me good enough. But other than that, I’ve been very happy with NetSpend.

I’m happy with NetSpend. I like it because you can get your SSI and social security retirement money on it days earlier than government cards so you can pay bills and don’t have to worry about it being shut off. I can go to the grocery store and can check on what my spending on groceries is. I don’t have to have to carry a whole lot of money in my pocket for it. When somebody says that I haven’t paid, I can call and know immediately if somebody used my card because I get messages via text and email. I get notified when it’s been used for. I got some kind of double receipt. I seldom use reload locations now since I move from Arkansas but there are many places where I can like Wal-Mart and Speedway. It’s convenient for me.
I also had a few experience with it but I don’t blame the whole thing for that. I got two NetSpend cards which belong to my daughter’s account. I have a trouble with one of them, which is my card having overdraft but it is the one that’s on my check. My daughter’s card was stolen and I had to call four times to get her passcode set-up. They sent this card out but it got lost in the mail. Now I’m trying to get money transferred from it into my card but it has a $10 charge.
I usually try to take care of everything online but every time I have to call, their reps are rude every time. When this fraud case was going on, they were supposed to send me a card out but they turned around and they started snapping off, “Well, it’s your own fault. If you hadn’t given the number out”. I used the card for buying a pizza. Apparently, they put some stuff off of it and I come to find out when I called the place that they had ordered from, the account had not only my credit card but 15 other people’s credit card. NetSpend just kept going saying, “Well, there’s nothing we can do about it. There’s nothing we can do about it. There’s nothing we can do about it”. The guy spent $600 of my money at Foot Locker. NetSpend said, “We’re not responsible. You should have known better.” They said blatant words like that. Nevertheless, I still recommend NetSpend.

I've been with NetSpend for a year or two now. They're a few days early on their check with direct deposit and reloading is a simple process. I don't use ATMs because it costs too much but I use NetSpend's reload location near me. They also do cash back and the overdraft feature helps too. I feel comfortable using my card and it always functions. Moreover, their customer service staff are always helpful even though sometimes I get a few I don't understand, which is difficult. I've had this about one out of every three times I call. Sometimes I just hang with it or ask for the supervisor to get it over and make it easier. But usually it's pretty quick and they usually answer the questions.
I had some problems with NetSpend however. I went to use my card once since I was buying a car. I had to use the ATM, but it wouldn't let me pull out more than $200 so I had to do it twice. I guess one of the times I hit the wrong number and for some reason it said I reported my card stolen. They said that I had to have my personal information to be able to report the card stolen. But I never reported it stolen. I was using the ATM at the exact same time it was allegedly reported stolen. But still they canceled both my cards, I don't know why or how, so I had to wait.
Also, NetSpend hasn't given us the $20 each for when my wife bought a card through their referral process. We gave them my wife's referral ID, which they sent in an email. And once the card is activated and has $20 on it, we were supposed to get $20 each. I did everything they said twice and argued with them three different times about it but I still have not earned the referral. It's about two months now so I just gave up.

Ever since then my paychecks get deposited in my NetSpend card. It's a lot easier, and I can easily check to see how much money I have on my account and don’t have to worry about overspending. I use my NetSpend card for everything. I use the direct deposit option frequently, and it's easy to find a reload location. In fact, the local Walmart here does it. I needed some place to deposit my pension check but I didn't want to go through a bank because it’s a lot of hassle. So I just put it in NetSpend and I can get to my money easy. It's there a couple of days ahead of time and it just fits my needs because I'm retired. When the check gets there, I get my money orders that I have to send out to and I just give them the card number to some of them and they take the payment off. I got three different payments that come directly off the card. That way I don't have to worry about it getting late or lost in mail, and I've had a lot of problems with that in the past. The money is right there and all I got to do is go to the ATM and get it.
NetSpend is hassle-free unless you got an ATM machine that doesn't want to act right. Most of the time, I don't have any problem at all. However a couple of times it said I had one balance and then when I called they said I had another. Since I don’t have to have cash on me, I can go to McDonald's and get something to eat and use my card. If I need to know a balance, all I do is text a certain number and within half a minute I get the answer back. I don't have to wait, call, talk and give something. It's a lot more practical and safer practice.

When I started receiving some money I wanted to have it onto my NetSpend card through direct deposit. I've had it since 2009 and so far it's been pretty good. I still have a direct deposit that comes on there, however, I had a problem receiving my social when I was in the Philippines for a year and a half. I had to call them up from there, had to use my WiFi and to really pray and hope that I had a good connection to talk to them and verify that I'm the one receiving it. I had to do that every month which sometimes can be a pain.
Right now I'm on a budget and I have to be careful. I'm also not trying to get things on credit. And with NetSpend, not having cash is a benefit. However, it depends on where you go. Pretty much everywhere in the US now they swipe the card but some places, like in the Philippines, they didn't have a lot of places you could swipe the card. But I used it in the ATM machine to get money and it was okay like that. However, it costs more to have the US dollar turned into pesos and for the use of the machine. It looks like a double whammy. But it's good when I go to a store and they ask if I want cash back. I can get a few extra bucks to carry and not just the cards.
I also use it to pay bills or make online purchases and it's convenient. However sometimes these places that you have encounters with, like a cleaner for your computer, if you use it for one week which they have a special that only cost $12. Then when you want to cancel it the place doesn't have a phone number where you can actually talk to a person to let them know and then their website isn't user-friendly. When you try to cancel it, they go ahead and give you your prescription for a whole year then take your money.
That happened to me last month and I didn't like that at all. They made me go in the hole with NetSpend overdraft. It was less than $2 overdraft because this so-called website cleaner didn't have a phone number. Plus they went through PayPal which I had on the other card with my social and that card didn't have enough money. So they went to NetSpend and took it. I told PayPal that I want that money back on that card. I wasn't happy. The credit card should make sure that the cardholder is the one making the transaction, not the other people on the other end making the transaction. If the card people can do that, that'll be great. They will somehow let you know that this website is requesting this much money from your card and ask if they should do it or not. They should let the cardholder make the decision.
I have heard other people say they don't like NetSpend but maybe they're not doing something right. Once you understand how they work, they are pretty good because they really want to make sure that your money is safe and that you are the one who is getting your money, not somebody else. They really do try to protect your money.

I like the services offered by NetSpend much better than any other companies. I pay most of my bills online and the NetSpend card does it so much better. It’s easier to keep track of what I am spending. I love the card and I use it for everything. With it, it’s very rare that I have cash in my pocket. Also, if a family member needs to borrow a couple of dollars, it’s much easier to transfer money to them and then they transfer it back when they get some money back on their card. I make online purchases now and then with my card, and since I don’t drive, it’s very convenient.
I also use direct deposit and the process is very easy. I simply signed up for it and my money has always been there on time. The one and only time I had to call customer service was when a payment that I made got messed up between NetSpend and the company, and within 24 hours after calling, it was straightened out. I absolutely love their customer service. It is so easy to talk to them.

After recently renewing my TD Visa Emerald card, I received a number of emails informing me that an additional card, a "NetSpend Visa Prepaid Card" would be arriving as well. NetSpend is not a company I recognized or have dealt with in the past, and I certainly did not knowingly opt-in for any prepaid card. I assumed the emails were spam, especially since one of the emails sent in this "batch" (an invitation to make money doing surveys) looked like a phishing attempt.
I was concerned about this, so I tried calling NetSpend to find out more. The number in the email was useless as all phone menu options required a card number, which I did not have yet, or a SIN, which I was unwilling to give out. Searching in google eventually revealed another customer service number. After a few minutes, I got a representative, who said that yes, they receive names and addresses from third parties and will send cards randomly to people to gain new customers. I think this is pretty skeezy, and I could see why anyone would be concerned by receiving emails saying their "NetSpend user ID and password have been changed" when they have never even heard of the company.
I asked to speak to a supervisor, and I was put on hold for 45 minutes. After this time, someone picked up the phone, and immediately hung it up again. I called back, restating my concerns. The representative had very little info for me, but basically advised me to just "wait for the card", and if I didn't want it, just to destroy it when it arrives. I wasn't even able to get them to delete my name and address from the system, because when I asked to speak to a supervisor again, I was put on hold and the same thing happened - they hung up. I called back, waited for a representative for about 5 minutes, and gave up in frustration.
I still know nothing about who gave them my info, and how I managed to "opt-in" for something I had never even heard of. I have seen many negative reviews of this company online and they have completely turned me off of the idea of prepaid cards. In all, I spent over an hour trying to figure this out - I don't care if I can just "destroy the card", I want my TIME back. Randomly sending out things like that is a terrible way to build a brand when identity theft is so rampant; I am sure I'm not the only one who was creeped out. I am tempted to "randomly" tell anyone who will listen that this company deserves to tank, hard.

I was doing all my business by cash and checks then. I had been offered many times to join NetSpend. I was skeptical at first because online banking with no virtual account and no checks means no security to me. I read over the details and decided to give it a shot and I’ve been a customer ever since. I like the fact that when I reach a certain level of balance it won’t allow me to overspend. At the same time, I don’t have to carry cash, which means I’m not spending excess cash. Their statements are concise and clear too and their customer service is impeccable.
I pay bills and make online purchases all the time. It gives me peace of mind and a lot of security. Oftentimes, I end up spending lesser fees in terms of transactions because I can use the credit instead of debit. They even have a calculating tool that gives me information on where my money is going, in a format that I can manage my finances better especially when I’m doing online transactions. Also, I use the direct deposit method. I recently went through some other banking methods. However, my NetSpend account is what I consider my main account which I would never let go of. I could get paid up to two days earlier. So when everybody else was hanging around, holding on ‘til Friday, I was able to go and start taking care of my bills and other things.
Their reps are attentive and they provide especial attention to a client’s needs, addressing and resolving them. I’ve had situations that I needed to be resolved - for credit back to my account and NetSpend's customer service is second to none. Banking institutions are taking the models that NetSpend uses, in prompt service and in response to favorable outcomes. I am extremely pleased with NetSpend. They’ve saved my butt too many times.

I bought a NetSpend prepaid VISA at Walmart, loaded it with money there, and brought it home to register it. When registering it, I got a message "please call customer service." When I called, they stated they could not register my card because my "address could not be verified." I assure you, this is my address, has been for 4+ years. They are not able to activate the card unless I send them lots of personal documentation (Social Security Card, Driver's License and a utility bill), to prove I live here. They also cannot give me my money back within 14 days (they can send a refund check after 14 days). SO THEY ARE HOLDING MY MONEY ON A PREPAID VISA I PURCHASED. Are you kidding me? I will NEVER use NetSpend for anything again -- WOW!

I used to sell stuff off eBay and a lot of people are using PayPal so I signed up for a card on there and got NetSpend. It helps out pretty well. I use it a lot for auto pays and for things that I might not want to give my actual debit or credit card information out to. I have it set up for auto pay for my DirecTV, my high speed internet, car insurance and my cellphone payments. I don’t have to keep track of it because they send me a text message of what happens. I save the text message as a receipt. Easy on me.
It also makes it a lot easier and earlier to get paid for my work through direct deposit. We get paid on Friday but I always get paid on Wednesday. If I have to reload it at a location I'd have to go down to a gas station. It's pretty quick and easy too. I go to the website and put in my zip code and there are tons close by. I once lost my card and their staff was helpful about it. They got it to me pretty quick and I got a new one. They made sure that there wasn’t any crazy spending that went on with my lost card. That really helped. They were super friendly too.
The only thing I dislike is being charged double depending on what ATM I use. I get charged $3 by NetSpend or PayPal and then I also get a $3 charge from the ATM every time I pull out and that can get expensive after a while. But I found a free ATM at Boise that I’d been using so I only get charged one side of it. But it would be helpful if there were more options, maybe to branch out with somebody, as far as ATMs. But other than that, I’m satisfied and really happy.

NetSpend doesn't charge a big overdraft fee and I like that - I only have the $5 a month. Also, I get my check as soon as it comes into the bank through direct deposit so I get my money a couple of days sooner. I also like that their card functions just like a debit card so I'm able to use it to pay bills or make online purchases. They have a reload location as well close to me and I use it to put more money on the card. It's a pretty easy process. Their team members are also helpful and polite. They offer me stuff I need.

I wanted easy online bank transfers for my family and Netspend is very efficient online for all of us to share funds. I like it better over a different prepaid debit card provider. I also like its mobile accountability. I could access my history through my phone, so that's a plus. Paying bills or making online purchases using the card is convenient as well. I use the direct deposit usually and it's very simple and I could find reload locations near me. As for the Netspend team, they’re always friendly. It was excellent.

The check cashing place said that I could do direct deposit through NetSpend so that I wouldn't be losing so much money from cashing my check with them. NetSpend makes it very easy to manage my account online. I get my check a few days earlier than everyone else and also get cash back if I activate certain things like when I go to Starbucks, I've gotten cash back through the program that they have.
However, I've had such a nightmare with them. My information got stolen and they weren't able to help me. I had to open a Better Business Bureau application, and only after I did that did they help me. I'm now using Chase, and I switched because NetSpend's customer service is horrendous. They were very rude and don’t listen to you. They speak off of a script and no one got back to me about anything. I was very turned off by it. I work in customer service and it's not very difficult to provide good customer service. Because of that, even though the perks outweigh the customer service, I had to switch.

I never really had a bad experience except one time when I was out of town on a trip and it was just me and my kids on vacation. I used it in another state and they closed my account. I guess they noticed that I was out of town and they were trying to protect me but it was actually me. I couldn’t get to a Ace Check Cash place and I didn’t have any cash on hand. NetSpend is a safe way of having a disposable credit card. I have used it for years when traveling because if a card is lost or stolen, they can kill the card without killing the account. That's the plus side. The negative side is this: This weekend while traveling I forgot my card in a remote location. Not wanting to cancel a perfectly good working card and have no cash for the weekend I decided to take advantage of NetSpend's FlashPay feature, where you can send cash to someone. I chose my wife. NetSpend doesn't use any of our current cards as a recipient so I called their Customer Support for help. I was told to simply have my wife purchase a NetSpend card for $3.95 and add $10.00 to it, and I could FlashPay to it and transfer a few hundred dollars from my account to that one. Sounded easy.
My wife bought the card. It turned out that a minimum of $20.00 had to be added, but what the hell, it was only $25 dollars. The problem is that once we did this NetSpend informed me that her account was blocked. For over an hour I spoke to the second NetSpend Customer Service agent, who refused, several times, to put a supervisor on the line. She also could not tell me why the account was blocked. She suggested, at one point, that if I put my wife on my account they "might" be able to lift the block but it might "freeze" my account as well. After a while she told me it would have been better if I simply got another card and put it into my name. When asked if she could refund the first purchase she said that the card distributors (in this case Speedway) controlled that, not NetSpend. She also could not transfer the money already spent back to my main account.
This is where I became stupid. I went back and spent another $25 to get another NetSpend card. I went into my main account and where it said, "Add another card." I got an error message saying this was a separate account and I not only could not transfer money, I could not merge the accounts (under the same name and information).
She then told me that she could transfer all of the money from the primary account to the secondary account (which would wipe out years of account information). She seemed surprised I didn't want to do this and openly was laughing in the background when I told her I felt that both the first Customer Service rep and the Second Customer Service rep had misrepresented (I used the word "lied") themselves as she was now doing. She said that at this point her only option was to cancel the misplaced card and order me a new card that would arrive in 7-10 working days effectively freezing almost a thousand dollars in my account. An expedited card would only be another, you guessed it, $25 dollars, plus $10 for a replacement card that you can pick up for $3.95.
So I'm out $85 dollars because I left my card in the office while traveling. I still do not have access to the money in my account, until money I transferred to another bank goes through, and I went from being a NetSpend promoter to hundreds of friends and business colleagues who travel to someone who wants to report them to the BBB for deceptive business practices.
My anger is not about the $85 in fees/loads. It is about a company that knows I spend over 30K a year with them, identified me as the actual customer, and refused to let me transfer a lousy $200 to two other accounts I own for a weekend. The lies from the first 2 customer service reps and the laughter of the last rep show me that like many institutions they only love you when you don't complain. Don't ever expect a mistake to be resolved by Customer Service at NetSpend.

But over the last several years it seems like customer service and reliability has went downhill. I would call several times and speak to a representative and be told several different things by different Representatives while my accounting needs remained unmet. I even had fraud on my account and when I disputed it they did not fight on my behalf but instead reverse the credit. Lastly, because of the fraud that was done on my account they said that I was too much of a risk and closed my account after several years of doing business with them! They locked my money up for over 10 days until I could receive a mailed check in the mail! If you are struggling and low income then this type of asking may suit you however if you expect quality banking service then I would advise not using this bank.

I never take the time to submit reviews because I know they don't really matter. However the fact that NetSpend deals with money and my money has been unobtainable for almost the past month is absolutely infuriating and makes me very hesitant to continue to use NetSpend. And that is a shame. After having bank accounts hacked multiple times I was referred to a re-loadable type of card which is when I found NetSpend. My card number/information was somehow confiscated last month and around $150 was drained from my account. Whoever did this was able to use the card number without needing the security code on the back or my billing zip code (which has long since been established) to pay two bills and a large fast food restaurant tab. That is just downright terrible security.
I reported my card stolen on May 24th when this happened and after waiting weeks for the dispute to be looked over the funds were transferred back into my account. I immediately was elated and took the time to send my sincere appreciation to the team because I never imagined a corporation like this would be able to help me. Having to go through customer service via telephone or email is a natural concern when your money is stolen. I was truly appreciative. Once I got this news I called customer service to make sure I could use my card again and whoever helped me confirmed that and made NO mention of the requirement to issue a new card due to the hack. That is just downright terrible customer service protocol.
Not even within 24 hours later I was notified the returned funds were "temporary" while the investigation continues. NetSpend, that makes absolutely NO sense. When I reached a new customer service agent I was told, this time, that my card was still marked stolen because it is mandatory to receive a new card for security purposes. "Ryan" apologized for the last representative not explaining this to me and said he would "make sure to expedite the new card to me". This was June 10th. I called Wednesday, June 15th, to let the customer service representative know that a new card was "expedited" to me but I had yet to receive it even though I lived in the same city it was being sent from. The customer service female was extremely hard to understand and told me that the card was, indeed, "expedited" but that it was still on its way. I asked if she could give me an estimated time of arrival and she apologized and said no.
After ending the call and trying to piece everything together it made zero sense to me since I live in Austin where you are based out of. I called back to try to reach a supervisor and she told me that the new card was marked on my account as being sent on June 10th but that it would be arriving next Friday, June 24th. I asked her how that was possible since I lived in the same city it was being sent from. She said it was because there was delivery issues due to a delay within company shipping. I received a text message alert last night around 10 PM letting me know that my new card was shipped last night. After business hours? Really? Again, NetSpend, that makes ZERO sense and I feel like your customer service and/or policies are all sorts of completely screwed up.
To sum this review up my card was hacked. I have had zero access to MY money. I have had 4 different customer service representatives tell me 4 different things and none of them make any sense. Now I have to wait another week to receive a card being sent from the same city I live in. You are a company dealing with people's money. Please get with it. Get your act together. Educate your customer service because this is a major problem.

All my transactions were in and posted so I went to the gas pump attempting to get $13 in gas. The pump stopped at approx 3.25. I went inside. The gas attendant offered to and tried $10 for me. It was declined. I called Skylight to find out what had happened and was told I had no money left on my card. I was told a debit had gone through on my card that day from an old service I had discontinued several months ago. I asked the customer service person if she would reverse the $1.50 fee and she indicated it was, indeed valid, and she would not be able to do that.
"My concern", I explained to her, "was not the fee as much as the negative balance" my card would carry for the days until I would get my paycheck deposited. I offered to mail the 1.50. I was given the same response which was that the fee was valid. She offered no solution to my problem. She was totally inflexible. All for the ridiculous amount of 1.50! Couldn't she have given me any options or maybe post dated the fee until my account received funds to cover it? I explained to her this issue was causing an extreme amount of dissatisfaction with myself and your card business. Again, she offered the same response which was that the fee was valid.
As a customer, I was giving her the opportunity to make me a satisfied customer AND/OR possibly offer me additional services. Unfortunately I expected she show some interest in my concerns, care about my dissatisfaction, or at least was interested in retaining my business. I had hoped she would offer me a solution your company could provide. But that did not happen. Her only goal was proving the 1.50 fee was valid. My primary question is this: "Do you care about my business?" And another one that comes to mind is: "Why do you have humans answering your phones when they service as though they were robots?"

I've only had one problem with Netspend and it wasn’t too great. I was trying to get the issue resolved in regards to some money that was taken off my card. The card machine was faulty. Then it became a big issue, and I got the runaround and the problem didn’t get fixed. They also charge too many fees. They shouldn’t charge all that money.

Overall, my experience rating that I would give is...eh okay. Too many times I have had my card/account locked. For example; when I drop a couple thousand dollars, I should not have any problem with accessing my money, my account, etc. I ordered cards that I was charged for, but never received.

Use of my NetSpend card has been very useful. The text messages sent when my account is debited for purchases or credited for money deposited is very valuable to keeping track of monies on my NetSpend card. I especially like the direct deposit feature for my paycheck. I never used this feature on other debit cards, prepaid or otherwise. The direct deposit feature is invaluable to me. I feel my NetSpend card is excellent for a prepaid card.

With MasterCard, I get paid on Sunday but it would not go into my card until Monday so I switched to the Brinks card and I get my check two days before everybody got theirs. I’ve been with it ever since and have had a good experience. I use my card for everything. I do direct deposits more frequently and there had been times when I had to reload. I also pay my bills out of the card.
At one point in time, my daughter got real sick and I had to leave Branson and go to Oklahoma for a while. I bought one of those Walmart pre-loaded cards for a phone and it turned out that the phone had been put in somebody else's name and I went through this big rigmarole of getting my money back, and my Brinks followed through with it and got the money put back on my card.

On May 25, 2016, I received notification from NetSpend that my PIN number had been changed. Knowing that I did not make such a change, I checked my account to discover that someone had accessed my account information and stolen $415. I instantly called customer service and let them know what happened and the operator I spoke with initiated a dispute claim for the funds taken. Honestly, at this point I was pretty sure I just got screwed and would never see my funds again.
I am pleased to report that, after a two week investigation, the fraud department of NetSpend found my claim to be valid and refunded my monies in full -- including the transfer fee they assessed on the initial fraudulent transaction of $4.95. The only thing preventing me from giving this report a 5 star rating is the fact that it happened in the first place. I'm still very distressed about that -- especially given what I've come to know about the measures in place that SHOULD have prevented this from occurring in the first place. I am satisfied, however, with the overall outcome of the return of my stolen funds.

I have been a NetSpend user for over 10 years and love the ease of using the card. The monthly fee is low and finding locations to add funds when needed is easy. My direct deposit is loaded on my card a day or 2 before many others get paid, it keeps me from having late pays on my bills that way. The cards could be issued for a shorter period so that the numbers stay clear till it expires but other than that a great item to have in your wallet.

I got it to pay my TV and as time went on I saw that our balances didn't match and as I paid my bill or used the card a fee was also taken out. Not able to get cash back. Always had to put $20.00 to reload but my favorite one is I only had $8.01 on my card so ask the cashier to only put $7.01 on the card and I would pay the difference of the total due (approx 9.85) and she pops up with it, took it all on the card and now I owe 2.95 on a prepaid card?

I’ve had my NetSpend card now for 10 years and I love it. The alert tells me when my money goes on my card and when some of my money leaves off the card. That’s a blessing right there. It’s convenient to use it to make online purchases because if you happen to go online to buy something and somebody tries to take advantage of you, they take care of it for you. Plus every time I’ve called them, they’re always friendly and helpful. I already recommended it to everybody. My mom got one, and one of my friends' son have one too. It’s a great experience for anybody that's starting out or for elderly people so that they’d be able to know who’s using the card and who’s not using it when alerts come out their phone.

This is a great service - you just have to be smart to use it and benefit from it. If you ever need cash, just ask for money back at stores or walk in to a bank and they will give you up to $5,000 with no fee. It's a hidden secret. ATMs charge you a fee because it's convenient and higher risk. Also, the 7.95 monthly service fee is well worth it with NetSpend. It's a better way to keep track of your money with great on-line services, text alerts and a nice app. You get paid a little faster with the direct deposit feature too.

My review is simple. I needed a bank card to order a few things online. I also wanted to have a card in case an emergency arose where I would need to take a trip to somewhere else. That hasn't happened but I am sure that it will be fine from what I have heard from others. I got my card, registered it, and within less than 8-9 days had my regular card with my name on it. I went to the website and being computer and web dumb I finally figured out how to get through to my account. The fact that anytime any transaction is made my phone dings makes me happy to know I can see every deposit and expenditure at the ding of my phone. I have not been getting dings on back order things but check it out on the web.
I was going to give you Happy with service but I would also recommend you to a friend. I can go to any 7/11 or even Speedway and deposit money. Speedway doesn't charge me every deposit and 7/11 does but that is fine I am finding out new and exciting things to make me like the card system with Netspend even MORE. Thanks for the opportunity to post a review.

I love having the NetSpend account. It's easy to use, from loading to paying bills to shopping with. The only thing I don't like is the monthly or yearly fee you need to pay in order to have the account. I think after you are a customer of theirs for some time, they should offer a discount on the fee or waive it altogether, maybe after being a customer for 3-5 years or such.
Thank you for taking the time to write to us. We do apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced, with our annual fees. I have been using a NetSpend card for a few years now. I have had a few problems, which were taken care of within 24 hours of it being reported to them. I just got a MasterCard from NetSpend and like it very much. Although I have only had it for a few weeks I believe that this is one of the best cards I have ever had. With NetSpend you can get a text as well as an email every time you use your card. You can also get the balance available in the same message after using the card. I definitely would recommend it to friends and family members who are looking for a way to pay for whatever they may need.
