I just wanted to leave a review about my NetSpend card. I have truly been pleased with it from the moment I got it. I've introduced it to my family members that will listen to me rant and rave about this card. And they too have enjoyed NetSpend thoroughly. Thank you all for giving peace of mind back to those who thought that they couldn't get any type of banking services.
Hi Nakiea,
Thank you for your feedback and 5 star rating! We are excited to hear that you are very happy with our services.

On the whole, I have been fairly satisfied with NetSpend. It has allowed me to enjoy the benefits of having a checking account without the pre-qualifications. However, my recent experience with my account being breached, resulting in unpaid bills and limited funds has not been pleasant. To add insult to injury, I have sustained an overdraft fee, because there are not funds to pay it. I am told that the investigation will take 45 to 90 days, however a loan of the stolen amount will be allotted in 10 business days (2 weeks). In this day and age of electronics, it can easily be investigated whether or not the claim is true. NetSpend claims our funds are FDIC insured, so what is the problem???

I don't have a checking account and NetSpend was the quickest and easiest way to get checks cashed and then get them deposited. I don't have much cash so it's easy. My checks are direct deposited so I don't have to mess with it. Every place takes Visas so it's not a problem.

First, when you get 1 of these cards, you canNOT access your money or the card right away. In order to activate your card, you have to send in a copy of your SSN, birth certificate, and your whole life, in order for them to identify who you say you are, in order for them to activate this stupid card. Once I found this out I canceled immediately. On top of that, from reading other reviews, they charge you 2 dollars for every time you swipe your card. Who wants to pay to use their own money??? NOT ME, SMFH. Stay away from this card PLEASE.

I was researching online and seen NetSpend come up. I spoke with somebody randomly about it, they said it's a good business for online banking. I've had good service with them. I had a card stopped for a while until I could get some business straightened out but my cloud drafted some money off it when it wasn't supposed to and they responded to that so I got a new card. The functions of business were stellar.

It sucks! I've had this card for 3 months now. When I go to the store, I have to pay $3.74 to load money onto my card. And after I load my card every time I check my card an extra dollar is taken. So I'm really paying $4.74 to load my card. Sometimes $2 is taken off my card. So I'm paying $4.74-$5.74 which I think is absolutely ridiculous. Last time I loaded my card, I was charged two dollars. And it doesn't even show who or what is taking these transactions. I was two dollars short for paying one of my bills. So I had to run to the store and pay 3.74 just to load $2 on my card and then be automatically charged an extra dollar for no reason. NetSpend is a rip off. After I pay my bill, I'm closing my account and I will never be a customer of theirs again. And I'm not recommending them to anyone.

I got NetSpend at the time that I was not able to have a traditional bank account and needed to have a bank card so that I could have direct deposit. It has been helpful if there has been an overdraft fee because of its overdraft protection plan. I am also able to have my income direct deposited a day or two which is earlier than everybody else. Plus it's very convenient for paying bills or making online purchases. Though I haven't had to deal with a whole lot of their reps, they've been helpful when I had to.

The people at NetSpend are extremely easy to get along with, very comprehendible and they know what they’re talking about. I liked how NetSpend's direct deposit was set up. I really enjoy it. My paycheck goes on there within three days, which is two whole days earlier than what I was used to in getting paid. I also like the variety of cards. Additionally, I use the online app and it’s easy to keep track of what I have and don’t, and what I’ve spent and where I’ve spent it. It’s a great card and I would recommend it.

I can get my taxes put on the NetSpend card and I liked their price. Since I began using my NetSpend card, I spend more responsibly. It's also convenient to use in paying bills or making online purchases and the direct deposit option is very easy to do. I've recommended it to a few people. But right now, I'm not very happy with them. The last couple of times I talked with them have not been very good. I had a simple question and got three different answers. No one was on the same page and when I asked to speak to a supervisor, they told me they would call me back within 24 hours but they didn't. I finally got a straight answer from them but every time I've had to call customer service, it's been an issue.

My complaint is about the way that Skylight Card handled a recent dispute. I was informed that a dispute was won. Shortly after the international fees for charges disputed were chargeback to my account but the actual transaction were not charged back to my account I contacted Skylight Paycard asking an explanation that how is possible that the charges for the international transactions fees are chargeback but the transaction itself is not chargeback? The only answer that over the phone was quote, "We charged back the fees out of the goodness of our heart.” What kind of answer is that? I made a complaint to Federal Reserve Bank which I never received an answer.
I send numerous email to Skylight Paycard and never received an straight answer to my questions. They did respond to my email but it was obvious that did all they could to avoid a straight answer to my questions such as what happened to the actual transaction and why only the transaction fees were chargeback to my account and not the corresponding transaction.

Do not waste your time or money on NetSpend... After purchasing one of their pre-paid cards... I was on the go and called to have the account set up. They explained almost nothing about the card on the phone or the card's "plan". This card is price gouging at its best. I was wondering why my money was disappearing faster than I could spend it myself... when most of my purchases were small minor things... a pop before work, something to snack on during break. I didn't have access to a smart phone (mine was sent off for repairs) and my isp has been doing a lot of work in the area so our net has been down more than it has been up, so I haven't been using the pc for last few weeks. And come to find out... they charge $2 per debit transaction.
When I called to ask about it today the first rep I talked to got angry and hung up on me... LOL... Shouldn't I be the upset one? I mean they have siphoned over 100$ out of my account, before I realized they was charging me per debit transaction. The second rep I talked to... naturally "couldn't do anything about it" because these were "valid" transactions... yet I was never told/made aware that I would be charged per transaction. So I asked to speak to someone with some sort of "actual" authority to discuss the situation... because I thought the rep hanging up on me the first go around was rude and I wanted make a complaint about it. And whoa and behold... the second rep couldn't disclose that info.
So... I "Do Not" recommend this card to anyone because their customer support will hang up on you, refuse to give you info regarding the company/anyone with "authority" to make above grunt pay scale decisions and $2 per debit transaction fee without even the rep that helped set up the account the day I got the card making me aware of the fee... to me border's business practices you would expect in a third world country... Goodbye NetSpend. I had used your card's in the past... never with an issue... but this will be my last.

I’ve been using NetSpend for a while now. They provided a service that I wanted and they have the checking and savings account that I was looking for. The best part that I love about it is that I don’t have to carry cash. I've also used it online and it’s very convenient. I relocated to Mississippi and found a reload location at Walmart. However, when I was trying to load $1500, I had to break it down into increments of $500 and got charged for a loading fee each time. Nevertheless, their reps have always been helpful and knowledgeable about what they’re doing. I even have my son go with NetSpend too because it’s easy for me and him to send money back and forth to each other. Overall, it has been an awesome experience. It’s a wonderful card and as long as there's NetSpend, I will not go anywhere else.

I had fraud on my account and they closed my account because of it without contacting me. They waited until the day my direct deposit was sent through and closed the account and supposedly sent me a check. I was told the check was mailed on the 7th then it was the 11th and now the 12th. I also told it would take 3-5 days then I was told it would take 10 business days. I called because I had not received the check and they would not talk to me about it until the 10 business days were up.
Well today was 10 business days and I called again and now they say the check was sent and it was sent back undelivered but could not tell me why. I have received mail at that address for 9 years. So now instead of putting the money on the card I have in my possession they are going to mail me another check. My direct deposit was sent to them on the 7th of October here it is the 25th of October and I can't access my money. I called last week to talk to a supervisor. They said one would call me back in 10-20 min. No call back. By the time it takes them to process another check and 10 more business days I will have no phone and no power because these people are incompetent.

I have been a customer for over 5 years. Recently a transaction was approved on my account causing my account to be overdrawn a significant amount. I have repeatedly asked "If I didn't have enough money in my account, why wasn't the transaction declined?" In 5 years I have not been allowed to process anything past 7.00 overdrawn. I do not have overdraft protection. I was told that I am allowed up to 10.00 overdrawn, which I have never seen. The transaction was an additional 20.00. Which by that logic it should have been declined.
I was informed that because I have been such a loyal customer, the transaction was processed. Yea that's what I want, "You are a loyal customer so let's take money from you that you don't have!" Up until now I have LOVED Netspend. Had zero complaints. While speaking with customer service I am treated as if I am stupid. I was not disputing the company requesting the funds, I was disputing NetSpend/Metabank for allowing it period. So because this company proved they know me, they were allowed to take money. I also asked "if this is true then when I am paying bills and am low on funds, why is EVERY transaction declined if they go over -7.00?"
To some people these small amounts may seem trivial, but to me every dollar counts. I am a single mother of 2 and am a stay at home mother due to my child's disability. So every penny counts. I wasn't asking for money. I wasn't denying the location. I felt it should have been declined if I have no money. And because of all of this, I now owe more than the initial transaction, more than a month later. I closed the card used for this, just to have the transaction follow my actual account. How that happened is beyond me. This location was not given my account information. I love how my dispute was declined the day before I get paid too!

I've had good interactions with their team although I've gotten upset with a couple of reps. I understand that a representative may repeat some of the questions that I may have and me having to explain it a couple of times to them to understand and I might get a foreign rep and a foreigner may not understand what I’m trying to say. I’ve been with NetSpend for 10 years now or longer. I was tired of having problems with bankers in La Crosse being open when they want to be and never getting anything done on time, so I thought I’d check out NetSpend. They were the only one who didn’t hound me every five minutes with a letter in the mail. They never harassed me and I never got bothered by them.
I also suggest them to everybody I know. In fact, I’ve got a lot of my friends signed up with them. I told them they could get their check faster and I’ve never had a problem with them. Recently I paid my bill and then the next morning, the phone company took the money out again not knowing they were on auto-pay. They never said anything when I went to pay it. As far as I know, the money’s being returned. So I’ve never had a problem with Netspend not getting it returned.
I get a constant text message. Every time I spend a dime, it pops up on my phone. Even when my computer was down, I still had it in my cellphone. I can even go to anybody else’s computer and cellphone to use it. Any time I mess up and don’t remember my password, they help me fix it. I also take out cash when my check clears. I pay my US Cellular and Charter Communications bills and it’s really convenient. When I played World of Warcraft, I didn’t have to go down to stand in line at Walmart to get a game card for two weeks because they were backlogged and didn’t have any. I set it up and it automatically came off. It’s easier to remember what I’ve spent when I’m not trying to find receipts all over my house. I can tell where every single penny is spent every time except for when I take cash out. But even still, I got receipts in every area of my purse. Their reps were all courteous and I’ve been really happy with NetSpend.

I wanted to start saving and budgeting my money and with NetSpend, I was able to do that. There isn't a lot of trouble with them and they are very good to customers. I was all for trying their card ‘cause they help people feel secure about where their money is being spent on. I also like that the online aspect is secure. I sometimes don't carry any cash ‘cause I'll spend it all, but NetSpend helps me with my spending habits. I have direct deposit with them and it saves me having to wait for my check. It's been awesome paying bills and making online purchases with my card too. NetSpend is very good with releasing the money. If I have an issue, they’re always good with helping me take care of it. It's very convenient.
I've called them with questions about ‘up and coming’ emails, about things changing with NetSpend and about things that they're adding. It’s a good service. I wish we can have different-colored cards, though, and that they would report when I make payments with the card. That helps my credit line. Otherwise, I'm very satisfied and I'd recommend NetSpend to a friend.

Many of NetSpend's options worked well for me. NetSpend has Anytime Alerts as well as everything that I can need to do. If I lose a card, I can go to the site itself and do everything there. That's beneficial because in the past when I dealt with other banks, I always had issues with mysterious transactions happening. I had to wait for a statement to come in to see what was going on.
One of NetSpend's features is the virtual card and I like the option that it offers. I like the fact that I can use that and if there’s an issue with a shopping place online, I can go ahead and cancel the virtual card without having to go through the whole process of getting a new card. However, I can’t say that I like going to their customer reps because the main issue I have is there's a language barrier and sometimes they don’t understand what I’m trying to tell them. That leads to a very big problem. Otherwise, NetSpend has an excellent online website.

I lost my Netspend Debit Card back around August 2016. I then discovered that three unauthorized transactions were made. I immediately contacted Netspend Customer Service. The lost card was deactivated and an "investigation" by Netspend began. I was informed by Netspend on October 20 2016 that I will not be refunded the unauthorized transactions! They gave a lot of double talk as to why they made this decision, but at the end of the day, that money was stolen from my account, and the money is not Netspend's but mine.
So, I called the Customer Service number, and asked to speak to a Supervisor about this claim. I made a total of 5 calls to NetSpend. Each time I spoke to the Representative, I had to explain this claim, then they attempted to connect me to a Supervisor which never happened. October 20th @ 4:41PM - was on hold for 52 minutes. October 20th @ 5:34PM, on hold for 10 minutes. October 20th @ 5:43PM, on hold for 3 minutes. October 20th @ 5:47PM, on hold for 21 minutes. October 20th @ 6:09PM, on hold for 34 minutes.
Note, again, that I never got through to speak to a Supervisor about this claim. I have been in the Customer Service Industry for over 18 years (Hospitality), and this ranks in the top 5, the worst way to handle a Customer Complaint. The sad thing is the amount is only $251 that needs to be refunded, and the transactions were not authorized by me. Last, I placed a call to Netspend's Corporate Office on October 21, 2016, but had to leave a voicemail message! Netspend thinks their decision to final this claim is over, but lets see what the Federal Trade Commission and the Texas Attorney Generals Office says about it.

So... I was excited to get my new personal card. I am linked to my friends account and have a personal one. So we made a 3000+ deposit... All good! Then we transferred my 6000+ tax refund to the card... That did it. This was in April. The company gave us a run around about the funds will deposited in 3-5 days for over a month and in the process of us checking the balance every few days. At that point they had us build up over a hundred dollar negative.
So then we were sent a new card to transfer the negative to because that card couldn't hold that amount of money and they are putting the funds on this card! And we finally got the new card in August! We get the card thinking we have our money back, not! They kept saying 3-5 days, again! Then fax this, didn't get it. Fax that, sign this, write this with your signature, and when they finally began to receive these faxes and get all the paperwork in, they went back to 3-5 days hooky. Then we get an attorney.
Now it is October and since the beginning of October it has been pending! They said the account would go from negative to 0 and then again 3-5 days the funds would be deposited! Nope! It did what they said and now it says balance unavailable deposit pending every day! And has been doing this since like the 7th of this month!! Now it is the 20th and still the same dilemma!! Still no money, and this was April to still! They said a day ago it would be deposited by the end of the day, and nothing! Now they're giving my lawyer a run around and he is getting fed up!
We have lost our car, which made us lose our house, which stranded us in another city where our job is now on hold, I'm 7 MONTHS pregnant and have 2 kids. I will never use this company ever again ever!! I was so excited, but for what? Nothing! Because taking this money and still playing with it has destroyed our stability and crashed our life! And still no answers and still pending!! I just want to relax... This is too stressful to date. :/

NetSpend is horrible to deal with, if you never have to deal with them don't bother. Yes, you get money sooner but a lot of banks do, Navy Federal pays out at the same time if not sooner. I have had problems with my direct deposit. In which money was deposited and I went to my employer's bank to see when they sent it out, just to find out they sent it with receipt at 10 am. I did not receive it from NetSpend until 10 pm. Now I have an dispute in which my account was debited and I didn't authorize it. And they are telling me it takes 10 days to MAYBE get a "provisional" credit because an initial investigation has to be done, but the way they explained it was they do a full investigation then give you a credit once they know they will receive money back from the company they let rob me. So the provisional credit is really just my money back.
This is ridiculous, I know small banks that give a credit on the same day. Why 10 days and their dispute team does not call you or have a number for you to call them, you can only email them. Overall my experience has been terrible, I'm looking to just go with a credit union. I will continue to tell other about my experience, in hopes that they don't get treated like this. I've been a long-time user of NetSpend. I didn’t know much about debit cards back then and I thought of giving it a try. I'm on disability and it was easier and quicker to get my disability payments that way, and that’s primarily why I got NetSpend. It’s easy to use and I get a lot of perks. I make good interest on my savings with it. Transfers are easy, too. NetSpend works really good for me and I like the fact that I can access my account 24/7. I also get notifications whenever money is deposited or when I get a transaction over X amount of dollars. It's pretty cool and makes me sure I’m the one doing the spending. At this day and age, that’s really important and the security with NetSpend is really good. I had one instance about three years ago where something funny showed up on my account and they were all over it. Within 48 hours, it was taken care of and saved me for being hacked.
It's always been good with their reps, too. They seem to be pleasant, knowledgeable, and able to help me with stuff. It bothers me if the call centers were outsourced but other than that, the service is fine. I recommend NetSpend to people all the time.

On October 7th, 2016, I went to a SECU ATM to withdraw $300 on my payday and the ATM didn't give me the money but the transaction went through. I tried it twice. That's why it's $600. I went through getting the bank to find their error and they did so. I gave all the information to NetSpend and they will not refund or credit my money back. This was my money that I did not get proved by the bank and they still say they're investigating. I gave them the bank's phone #, address, and everything for them to call for themselves but they are not listening to me. I want my money back that I worked for. I used to trust NetSpend which is why I had my check go direct deposit but this is the worst experience EVER!
Updated on 10/31/2016: NetSpend still owes me $300 that the merchant credited to my account but NetSpend took the credit off my account so they need to give it back. The merchant has done their part and given NetSpend the $600 which was my original dispute amount but NetSpend refunded only $300 of it and won't give me and refuses to give the other $300 which is My money!! Below is my response to them after they refused. I will also attach documents of my account showing their reversal. NetSpend is a scam and I had to fight really hard to get the first $300 of My money!
The credit applied on October 7th has not been a part of my balance since October 7th due to the fact that the same day it was credited, the credit was taken back by NetSpend. I spoke with a NetSpend representative that same day and she stated that NetSpend took it back due to they had to complete the investigation first. So please look at my account and you will see that it was reversed. I am still owed another $300 credit. I did receive one $300 credit on the 24th of October but there is still another one so please correct your findings on the claim below.

My co-worker's brother told her about NetSpend and we both signed up at the same time. Managing my finances is better with NetSpend. I got direct deposit and I used to use my card to pay bills or get my medicine. When I had a problem where utility took out more than what they’re supposed to, I was told to contact utility, but utility told me I needed to contact NetSpend to get my money back. I sent them an email and NetSpend was supposed to look into it about two or three months ago but they never responded back. I also recommended NetSpend to someone but she said she didn’t get anything from NetSpend. Another was when I wanted to change my email address, NetSpend wouldn't let me.
But those incidents aside, I’ve been pretty satisfied with NetSpend. I like the service and some of the benefits they have like getting my paycheck early and the little alerts. The rewards are really good too because I can use some of them here in Indianapolis. NetSpend has been pretty good to me and I've been with them since 2000. I would still recommend them.

Even though Alphatron Nitrites support@alphaus has no record of a purchase or service.
What really bothers me is I had a refund before the same way - I woke up, called, my money refunded the same day without all the above hassle. If all calls are recorded why am I having this problem - 89.99 lost due to NetSpend negligence! NetSpend helped me a lot because I learned how to use cash instead of credit. It really helped me when I didn’t have a checking or savings account. Every time that I’ve had a problem, NetSpend has been very quick to fix it for me. I think highly of them. One time, somebody stole my card and I didn’t even know it was stolen until I got in the car. And when I got in the car, I got a text telling me that there was a purchase on my card. I called NetSpend immediately and told them, “I’m here. I am not making a purchase at this time.” So they were able to stop the person from making the purchase. It was really a good experience.
I still have NetSpend and I use them for one of my bills that every month that my husband made that I wanted to separate from everything else because I don’t want him to know any of my business. So even though it’s in both our names, he has not paid a penny. I've been letting them take $90 a payday out. And I put $300 every payday in there and I use it more like a savings - an emergency fund, if I have a flat tire. That’s how I use it and my credits are good because of it.
I’ve recommended NetSpend to anyone. I’ve referred several people - my sons, and they also have NetSpend cards. In fact, even where I work, before they had cards and they would get their unemployment paid. I would recommend that they go get a NetSpend card and use it. I said it’s like a debit card. And “If you put a certain amount of money every month in it, it will only charge you $5.” I explained it to them and told them it really works well. And if there’s a bogus charge on it, all I gotta do is call them and they work with me. They’re real good about stopping everything. Twice they have caught things and sent me a new card. So it was awesome to be able to trust NetSpend like that. And their charges were also reasonable. They didn’t do like a lot of companies which charge for every little thing.

I have had a terrible experience with Netspend so far. They have stolen money that was transferred from PayPal and shows that it was completed by Paypal for over 48 hours on their end. Netspend is telling me that they don't show any information of a transfer, and the money has been moved to Metabank per discussion with Paypal. I now feel that my money has been stolen from me and will no longer ever be put into my account, and that NetSpend in responsible for that. They are unwilling to help, have hung up on me multiple, and have now threatened me by saying I may or may not get my entire transfer. Last time I checked, money I earned belonged to me unless it was owed to someone else. Netspend is not entitled to any of this money because I do not owe them a balance. Therefore they have now threatened me with not getting all of my money, and that constitutes as stealing.
If I transfer an amount to one bank from another, the ENTIRE amount should be transferred. I have also asked for their legal information to file a lawsuit claim several times, and they are unwilling to give me the information I know, as a customer, I am entitled to if I should ever feel the need to file a lawsuit. This constitutes breaking the law as a financial institution on their end. It is disgusting to be harassed this way over money that belongs to me and my son and to have to worry that we will not receive our entire transfer now makes me feel violated from a business. Please put NetSpend under review for legal transgressions as I found this is not the only time this has happened to other customers - and am sad to learn that a very large portion of them, never received the money into their NetSpend that belonged to them. Netspend steals customer's money.

I put in my daughter's info and used my address for the card so it would come to me first. My daughter is in a residential treatment program for addiction so I wanted all the info to come to me.
I was requested to provide a social security card and a legal ID. I provided a letter from the Social Security Administration and her Mass. license. That still was not enough because her address on her license did not match the address I entered. I advised the customer service rep that she had no address because she was in treatment and had not changed it. Way too much BS. This is a reloadable card, not a credit card. The verification process is ridiculous. I have asked for a refund and will NEVER recommend NetSpend. Not to mention, I have to wait for 10 business days to get my money back. Very unhappy.

Having my NetSpend card is convenient. I’m able to see and notate all the transactions because it has the instant direct deposit. I never have overcharges with the bank. I use my card to pay bills and online purchases all that time, that’s mainly what I got it for. If I need to put something on the card or if I have to pay a bill, I’ll just go to Walmart to do it. Also, both of my jobs have direct deposit on the card.
A couple of weeks ago, I almost canceled it. I had too many bills going on at the time. I had a transaction where I had to pay my cellphone bill which I never had problems before, but the system charged my card twice and it took my account into a negative. I had my car payment and needed to get groceries. So I kept calling and it took me 10 days. 10 days went by. They kept telling me another 10 days, and then another 10 days. This was an error on their part and they kept telling me to reach out to T-Mobile. T-Mobile is telling me they don’t have the money. NetSpend is showing that the transaction was an error. They sent me a letter saying that it was rejected because they didn’t find any fault. But they have the money. All I ask for is just my money back. I took a screen shot showing that they encountered an error on their part and showed it to them and put it on their webpage and on Twitter.
I got upset because I kept getting the runaround. I’ve never experienced this before and I've been with them since 1999. I need a better explanation than to call T-Mobile because T-Mobile didn’t do this transaction, they did. Don’t just leave someone in limbo when you know that it’s not much you can really do, or just find the answer versus buying time. Other than that, it’s a really good service. It’s just that one issue where I really was livid. I would still recommend them to a friend.

I walked up into a gas station looking for a card that would hold more money. I knew approximately how much I get every month from Social Security and there were all kinds of cards there but I looked at the two NetSpend cards first. There was one that could hold $500 and the other one could hold all the way up to a thousand. That was a big factor.
I use it for paying bills, which is an easy process with NetSpend but I had an issue the other day. I pumped down $32 for gas but then had three different charges. I called the NetSpend team members who have been really nice but they got upset at me on the phone. I told them I would pay the $32 for gas and the $9.71 charge, too, but I wanted my $55 back. They said they gave me my money back but they didn't. I even told them they can look up under my account if they want to. But it never got worked out and I let it go.
I use the direct deposit more frequently but I have had to do the prepaid thing. Each store charges a different amount that I can put down on my card. The store down the street says I can't put no less than $5 at a time but the store 30 miles from here allows me to put $5 on there if I only need $2 worth of transaction. But what I like about the card as well is that I can only go over by a couple of dollars and that's their cut out point. I also spend more responsibly since getting the card. Instead of having money right in my hand, it makes me think longer whether I really want to buy something. It's also convenient for me to have it as I can take it anywhere and it's accepted like a credit card.

When I complained they made things worse by changing my pin and putting a freeze on my account until I provided security answers to several questions. They asked me if I ever lived at addresses I had never heard of.
I failed their test and could get nowhere as my address did not match the one on file and they could not change my account. They forgot one thing. However, the last couple of months, I’ve been running into customer service issues. They’re not consistent with the information that they’re delivering. In some situations where I have to call in, I was told anything just to get me off the phone. In fact, last week I got hung up on. The rep was really rude and she was cutting me off. I asked for a supervisor and she told me it was going to be a three-hour wait.
I’ve never in my entire life of being a consumer have to wait three hours to speak to a supervisor. They have asked me to hold and then they threw me back into the queue. I haven’t called them since then but I will call them back because it was regarding my funds and I was traveling out of town, so I want to get everything situated, and that wasn’t done. I haven’t sat down yet to evaluate if I’m going to change my account or not because I’ve been with them for so long. I want to keep everything consistent because I have automatic debit that comes out of my account such as car loan, insurance, etc. so I don’t have to rearrange my whole life. But their customer service team doesn’t want to get it together thus I’m dissatisfied with my experience.

After reviewing my transactions I realized that I was giving NetSpend 20 per month in transaction fees! I cancelled my account and cut up my card. If you have a NetSpend Card account here is how you can beat them. Go to an atm and withdraw your money instead of making a purchase with this card. At the atm you will only pay a 2.50 fee and that's better than you getting charged 2.00 per transaction every time you swipe your card.

I’ve had NetSpend for so long. I get my direct deposit on there from my ex-husband’s retirement money. I always get the $400 on there every month that I can depend on, so that’s good. With NetSpend, I pretty much do not have to carry cash. Customer service is great too and I haven’t used them that often. I have also finally started going to the bank to get my money off my card instead of using the bank machine. When I use the bank machine to get that $400 off of there, I end up paying about $10. But when I go into the bank, I can have them run it and it’ll only cost me like $2.50. So far, it's been an excellent experience.

I had just started working in 2008 and I needed to have my direct deposit, so I ended up setting up Netspend. It's something where my direct deposit goes so I can make my bill payments online. Their customer service sucks. They tell me that they’re going to call me back and they don’t. I had an issue with my debit card last week and they assured me that they were going to call back, and they never did. I happened to use my card at the store and it worked, but nobody called. The only reason I still deal with them is because it gets me my paycheck early. Instead of getting it on Thursday night or Friday morning, I get it earlier than everybody else, so that’s still cool. I have friends that I told them about NetSpend and they have accounts with them. The service has just been not all that great lately.

I have been a customer with NetSpend ace elite card since 2012. In that time they have always been helpful. I have no complaints. When I call they always are sincere in helping me with anything I need. They tell you the fees upfront. I chose the 5 dollar monthly fee. It saves me money as I'm on direct deposit. I get paid earlier than I would with other card companies. Any issues that ever come up which is almost never they fix really fast. I would recommend anyone to use this card company you will not be disappointed. I will continue to do business with them for many years to come.

I asked to speak to a supervisor and not only was I treated rudely but then I was told by her that there was nobody else above her I could speak to. Every time that my check was delayed and I would call in I was told they did not see a pending deposit but then magically an hour later my deposit would go through. If it continues I will report it to the BBB.

I have had an acct with NetSpend for numerous years. I had to lodge my 1st dispute recently regarding fraudulent activity. It was a very lengthy process that was made difficult by the fact that no one I spoke to at NetSpend customer service spoke English. After the initial charges appeared on my card I attempted to resolve it thru the company that processed the charges. When that did not work, I contacted NetSpend and started the process. I called customer service and was told the charges would be reversed and a dispute would be filed - they were reversed but even after my account was closed and a new card was issued the company was still allowed to process their charges against my funds. And the dispute was not filed by the agent.
I called several times and the agents although polite, did not seem to understand the process any more than I did, often providing contradictory information. I had to file the same information online and via the phone 4 times. I finally had my money placed back on my account but it is called a temporary resolution while they are investigating the charges which could take up to 90 days. Due to the ineffective system in place I am seriously considering closing my account and having my direct deposits go to a different banking system.

All of the limitations proposed recently by the CFPB removes any alternatives for consumers who have landed in my place. The poor have fewer and fewer options. My debit cards were compromised not once but twice in a month and a half. The first go around the experience was awful. Couldnt pay the bills, get money, nothing. EXCEPT... "I am sorry miss. There is nothing I could do." Sweet right! Well, when it happened AGAIN two weeks almost to the day let's just say a little mad was not it! I got right on the phone. Spoke again with an advocate and SHE said, "I'm so very sorry this is happening again to you but let me get you in touch WITH THE FRAUD DEPARTMENT!" Now it is a Sunday and it was closed. Understandable.
Called the next morning (now I wish I could remember his name. He was awesome.) and was told I COULD HAVE GOT A TEMPORARY CARD AT MONEY TREE! Now, I am STILL waiting for the replacement card mind you BUT, at least I can take care of the important stuff. I write this, although you have really nice advocates. Their service was quite nice. If I could have had the information I got the second time in the first place... my life would have been a lot easier, and I would not have had to call as many times as I did. I have worked in a call center. It sucks when a customer calls a hundred times.

At the time I got NetSpend, it was more convenient than the other prepaid debit card providers. I have a direct deposit for my government check and I pay bills coming out of that every month and it’s fine. My direct deposit is once a month, and I use the locations at least three times other than my direct deposit. It's very easy to find reload locations where I live at. Anytime I’ve had trouble reloading, it’s always on the merchant’s side. It’s not NetSpend. With NetSpend, I don’t have cash available to me, so I don’t feel like going out all the time. If I had the cash, I’d spend it up as opposed to having it on my card. It makes me spend more responsibly. I do more online shopping, though. Moreover, I am able to get money to other NetSpend users quickly. In fact, I had other family members have NetSpend cards, so it’s really easy and quick for me to do a money transfer to my son, my husband or whoever. That’s very helpful.
I had some good, bad and indifferent interactions with the people at NetSpend, but most of the time, when I call, the issue is resolved. They try their best to resolve whatever issue I may have. One time, I did a money transfer to a card and when the person went to get the money off the card, the money wasn’t available. It alerted me on my phone that the money came out of my account, however, they were told they couldn't get it due to insufficient funds, so they had to get a lesser amount. The person had to use the machine twice, which took money off. Had I called NetSpend right then, they would have probably reimbursed me. Other than that, they handle my situation to their best.
Whenever I make a purchase with my card, I’m not charged any fee. I pay Netspend $5, which helps me when I make a purchase, but it doesn’t help me at the ATM. As a suggestion, I would be willing to pay $10 a month so this way it would help when I use the ATM. NetSpend charges $2.50 and then the ATM charges $2.50. I can’t control the ATMs, however, the $10 a month would help with the fee of the $2.50 that NetSpend charges. As a summary, I love that any money that comes in into my account, they post it immediately. For the years that I have with NetSpend, I've been having a very pleasurable business arrangement with them. It has no stress, they’re very helpful, and it has been a great experience.

When I started getting SSI, they suggested a debit card provider and I got it for my funds to be automatically deposited on to, but I found out that that card wasn't accepted at most places. I couldn't pay my bills with it. That's when my fiancé suggested that I try NetSpend, and I've been happy with it. It's the same as having a bank account except that I'm not paying huge fees. I really like the fact that I can't go over $10 in debt with it. So many bank accounts have large amounts that I can overdraft and then end up owing them $300 that I'm paying off over and over.
I use NetSpend for online purchases, and it works really well for that. I use it for just about everything that I can use a debit card for. I don't even have a bank account anymore. I also pay bills with it and I've had no problems. I have it linked with PayPal, so it’s protected. I do direct deposit and I reload sometimes if I get a gift from someone. I'm not that pleased with having to pay for reloading it but I understand why I have to. I was having some difficulty a few months ago getting my email changed on NetSpend. I had been using a Yahoo account and it didn't seem that it was that safe. I wanted to change it to Gmail and I had problems doing that online, so I ended up calling and talking to someone and they were able to get it switched.

I have been a customer of NetSpend for many years up until a few hours ago. I've had issues with them over the years but today was the final straw. I wake up today to find an email stating there is a problem with my account, "please call." So I call NetSpend only to be transferred to their fraud department. The young lady asked me my name and information then proceeds to say "umm ohh umm.. Well I have a phone number here for you. I will call you right back." I say "sure," hang up and wait for 15 minutes for this person to call me back. She never called me back so I call back NetSpend and ask to speak to their fraud department. The rep was very nasty stating she could not transfer me to the fraud department. She then proceeds to read notes that the fraud department left on my account stating that I had to fax in all this information to verify my identity that she could not help me.
Why after all these years does NetSpend need to verify my ID? I have been a customer for many years now all of a sudden they need to identify who I am? The last time I used the card was several days ago. There is no fraudulent activity going on with this account. I have account alerts set up. I use their virtual account feature for online purchases. The physical card has not been used in another state.
I decided today to close the account. Funny thing is I was able to call and close the account with no problem. The rep did not say "oh miss there is fraud on this account and the fraud department is asking for verification. You cannot close this account." Thankfully there was no money in the account at the time, so I will not have to deal with them holding my funds for days and months. We are having our direct deposit transferred to our other bank. Bottom line the customer service is lacking and from what I have read NetSpend has no problem randomly freezing your account. Like I said thank god the account was pretty much at zero at the time. I could not imagine the headache of having to get my money back from this bank had it been payday. NetSpend just lost a long time customer with this stunt.

Got the card & it has a negative balance of $3 & some change & a $5 pending charge that I had NOTHING to do with, as the card was sent to the guy, not me.

I decided to send an employee money through Western Union option online on my account, that was a big mistake. Charged me $24 to send $720. I can get over that because I needed it done but my employee lost his wallet so he had no id to pick it up so I called Western Union to change the receiver's name and they said I would have to go into the store that I got the transaction with. I was like "How am I suppose to do that when I did it online? I'm in Arkansas." They said I did it in the store in Kansas. WHAT?
I kept telling them I did it through my NetSpend card online. They said there was nothing they could do. I would have to call NetSpend so I did. They said I would have to talk to Western Union bc transfer has already been done. I told them that they wouldn't and they sent me back to Western Union and bam they said the same thing. Even the supervisor did too - well they sent me to Western Union NetSpend. She said "You don't have a Western Union NetSpend card and I shouldn't have been able to do the transaction from my regular card and there was nothing they could do and sent me back to Western Union.
3 hours later a guy finally said he could just refund my money but would have to go pick it up local said he would refund the whole amount of 744. Well I get there and there was only $724 so costed me time and money for nothing then I go to the reload location and add money to send money a different way then they tell me because I loaded too much that I have to wait 24hrs to send money. What? You are the reason I had to reload the money and pay more to reload money when your system is messed up. How fair is that? I add between 5 and 10k a month so they make a fortune off me and this is how I am treated... I told them "So I have 4k in my account and I don't have any control over my money." I can use my card but can't do anything else no transfer money no load or anything... I pay for the account. I should be able to do what I want with my money.
I am going to look for a different company to use because this is **. It's my money and you're controlling it. I called them and he kept telling me I had to wait 24hrs to send money because I loaded 2 much. BS. It's supposed to be able to load up to 7500 and send at least 1500 a day. Nope that's not true. It's all the same in their eyes and wanted to talk to supervisor and been on hold for 2 hours. Definitely would not recommend this card to anyone period. NetSpend needs to contact me and make it right if not I will make sure everyone knows how crooked it is. My phone number is **.

I needed to do something quick and a friend told me about NetSpend so I tried it. Since using them, it is easier for me because I don't have to go back and forth to the bank. I also don't have to worry about direct deposit. If I have any questions about it, their staff is always right on time. Also, it's very easy to use it online or paying bills. I use it for everything. It's so ironic because I don't even carry cash anymore. Their reps have been great and they have always taken care of whatever I needed taken care of like transferring money. I have all of my daughters with NetSpend and they always call on daddy. They’re spread out across the country and I move around quite frequently, so when they say “daddy,” I just transfer. They don't have to go pick it up since the money is right there on their card. My experience with NetSpend has been great.

NetSpend deposits my Social Security check two days early and that's the biggest reason why I chose them. They've been wonderful and reliable. Every time I use the card to swipe at a store, they send me a text message alert. I do direct deposit more often, but every now and then I reload or I have a friend who sends me money through PayPal with my NetSpend card. I also used to get money sent to me like that through NetSpend and it’s very easy for me. Additionally, the reps are very nice and accommodating. When you have a problem with a dispute, they handle it right away. If you put it in writing, they put it back on your card immediately.

My 8 year old son got this for a birthday present. I gave him the 20.00 and said I use these debit cards all the time. I had to call the company to activate card and make an acct. I was not happy about doing that I just wanted to use the "gift card". After multiple calls I find out I have been denied for insuff funds (the code at the store or online does not tell you why). I get some woman who I can barely understand because English is not her first language. I finally get the answer that there is a 2.00 fee to use the card. So now my 20.00 card is only worth 18.00. I try to use the card again for 18.00. Card is declined again. I log into acct today and see I was charged a monthly fee of 5.95! Now I have a balance of 14.05 and when I use it I will be charge a 2.00 fee to use the card. So now I only have 12.05 left of a 20.00 gift my son received. Does this not seem like a big scam to steal your money! Please do not buy these cards! You will not be happy!

I use NetSpend for savings. If I go somewhere I have this card that doesn’t have access to my entire life. As opposed to a debit card, it’s connected to a bank and everything else. When I want only specific amounts of funds to be carried with me, I put it on the NetSpend card and it helps because I only got that much to spend. It's convenient. Everything I’ve wanted to do with it, I’ve been able to do. I needed a new card because it had expired. I was out of the country for many years and, as soon as I came back, I ordered a new one and it was all automated.

Immediately I called NetSpend which is run by people with poor English in India. They beat around the bush for 3 months, sent a letter saying my claim was fraudulent. I never got my money back! It helped me to be able to stay in line as to what I have and what's available, not to overdraw and not have overdraft. I've called them when I was charged for something that I shouldn't have been charged for and they took care of it in a timely fashion. Their reps have been polite, friendly and caring. NetSpend is great and convenient, and I use it to get the deposit earlier. My interaction with the NetSpend team has been good, except for one time when I couldn’t understand the person because we had a language barrier. The only thing I don't like about the card is if I get gas, they put a hold on my account if it's between $76 or $100. It's inconvenient, especially if I have to get groceries for the family. Other than that, using the card is a lot easier because I have a lot of things that I have set up to come off my card and just having it handy at any time and using it anywhere. I never had any problems with anything out of state, like California or Vegas. The alerts always let me know what my balance is every day so that way, I know what I have available. I also like the fact that I can add my personalized photo to the card.

In the beginning their team was great and I really enjoyed them the first few years. However, recently the English isn’t so good for them. I have a savings account and direct deposit attached to it. It’s extremely easy to use and they have a better interest rate on their savings accounts. My check is direct deposit and directly into my account so we had to use the reload thing a couple of times. If I get extra cash, I have one reload location right around the corner. I love NetSpend as well because they were right there for me when somebody got into my card and took all my money. I got a text saying my account was used somewhere in New York and I live in Florida. It's been great for me and I don't think I'd switch to another.
My daughter has a NetSpend card as well and it's so much easier to transfer money to her instead of waiting for her to come over and pick up the cash. Once when I went to do a transfer to my daughter's card, there was a hold on my card because of the theft. But I just had to send in a photo ID to the NetSpend guys and they released my card again. They were in a bad mood and I happened to be the one they took the bad mood out on. When I told them that I couldn’t understand them, they got a little upset with me and it went downhill from there. The best thing for me to do was hang up. I got off the phone to call back and talk to a supervisor. When I went into ACE trying to get a debit card, they told me about the NetSpend program and the program overall such as the benefits sounded really good. I've been on it for a while and I'm loving the service. The most benefit I get out of it is I could get the money early so I'm able to pay my bills on time. I was not able to do this before with a regular account.
I use NetSpend as a deposit card and also a card to pay bills with. There are not that many fees when I use it which is also a good thing. I pay my bills over the phone with the card too. I feel secure with it. When I lost it, NetSpend was able to turn it off and when I found it, they turned it back on again with no problems. It's an excellent program. I've referred a lot of people to this card. I wish, though, that they have more locations in Cincinnati, Ohio because a lot of check cashing places don’t even use NetSpend anymore. We have about three of them down here in Cincinnati and I have to go a good three miles to go to one.

I called NetSpend within 10 minutes of this transaction. They told me it would be 10 business days. I sent in a letter of dispute. They told me on the 14th day that they never received it and lied about Saturdays being a business day. Then on the day that they was supposed to credit my account they tell me they can't because they lost my fax even though I sent them an email on the 14th day since they lost my fax.
Then I call telling them that isn't going to fly. It is their fault they lost my fax and they tell me they found it and that I will have to wait another 45 to 90 days. I have filed a complaint with BBB, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Federal Reserve. I have also reached out to Consumer Fraud Legal Services who has several lawsuits on NetSpend for similar actions and they are willing to represent me. This representation will cost well over the 900.00. They should just really understand that I am not playing. I need my money. It was my paycheck and I worked for it. NetSpend is crooks. I’ve been with NetSpend for years. I do a lot of online bill payment and shopping, and the payment process is pretty simple. As long as I have my account number and routing number, it’s easy. If I spend on certain merchants, I receive money back which is really interesting and neat. I also have direct deposit from my employer and sometimes when I need to load money, I just go to a 7-11 and it’s easily loadable. They charge about $5 but that’s okay. I love getting paid two days early, and when I refer people, we both get $20.
The optional overdraft comes in handy except NetSpend doesn’t disclose the full details. They don’t tell me that if I have a certain amount of overdraft, they stop my overdraft completely and I don’t find that out until I have a certain amount of overdraft. Also, a lot of people from NetSpend's team are rude and don’t speak really good English so I get frustrated when I don’t understand them or they don’t understand me. They’ll simply hang up in my face, and I’ve had that happen a few times. Other than these, NetSpend is a good card. It just needs to be more specific as far as the rules and policies.

I've tried purchasing online and the card would decline but they’d still hold the funds out of the account. The reason the card was declining was because of the ZIP code being wrong, which I didn't realize. It happened twice and both times, it took five days. I had to call them and say the funds are not back on my card yet and that I need that money back. The person on the phone at first told me that it goes back on automatically. I had to dig further into it because it obviously didn’t go back on. The second time, they tried to tell me the same thing that it automatically goes back on and I had to explain to them that it doesn’t. It bothered me that if they decline a transaction, they still hold those funds.
Sometimes a merchant will tell me it doesn’t matter which debit card I'd try to put money back onto as long as it's a debit card, but with NetSpend, it makes a difference because they will not release those funds unless it was a purchase made with their card. I learned that the hard way. It took me two months to get my money back, and it took me calling corporate and getting everybody involved. But other than that, they're fine. I'm able to get my disability direct deposited onto it, which works for me. I also use it to pay bills and for online purchases. The only thing I don’t use it for is pumping gas.

When I first got with NetSpend, they were exactly what they said they were. I used to get my check two to three days early, but now, I'm not getting them after what said date. It's becoming unpredictable and harder for me to keep my bills paid on time because a lot of my stuff are on auto pay. I also don’t like the fact that they never know anything about the deposits. They’ll always say, “When we get it, you'd get it immediately.” but then the Social Security tells, “No. They already have it in advance, so it's up to them to release it.” We're told so many different stories.
I find it very convenient to pay the bills online. But if it's not there when it's due or when I've got it set up, I don’t have an overdraft protection to take care of it. So then my bill’s rejected which ends up hurting my credit. It's like having a balance check. I'm on the premiere package where I pay a certain fee +every month then they charge $0.50 for me to call and check on my balance. The text alerts and emails are free, but it was taking money out for everything and they shouldn’t have done that. There were a couple times I haven't got my money back. I've started getting my other two checks put through NetSpend but maybe I'll go with another company because I get three checks every month. I'm a widow and I have four children. So I get my disability, my son gets his SSI, and then we get the survivors’.
Their staff's all pleasant but I can't understand some of them and I have a hard time understanding their language or their accent. If I call three times in a row, I'll get three different answers. Nobody ever has the same answer, not two customer service reps. And I found out all answers aren’t true. When I recommended them, they promised me before a $25 deposit for referring people. I've referred seven but I never got the $25. So now, I wouldn’t recommend them to anybody.

NetSpend is one of those companies that enriches itself off of the poor. High fees, arbitrarily suspends access to your own money. Dispute a charge? They will suspend access to your money for days (DAYS), until they send you a card in the mail. Don't want to wait 3 or 4 days? That is 29.95 for "expedited shipping", still 2 days. Try to call the customer service line (which is answered in the Philippines, so unless you speak Tagalog, you don't receive much help) and ask for a manager or supervisor. You will be put on hold for 20 mins, before the line disconnects. Happened to me 6 times over two days. Never resolved my problem. Never spoke to a manager. My time is as valuable as theirs.

And I also get updates on what’s coming out of my check because I’m mad about somebody else taking money out of my check who shouldn’t be taking it out. I’ve been with NetSpend since 2010. They have a good program I’m able to save with them. Once I have the right deposit over $250, they give an overdraft and I can overdraft on my card up to $100 dollars. And once I use their card so much, they give some things that I can get offers on. If I spend money on certain stuff, I would get cash back on the card. I use direct deposit every month and my benefits get direct deposit on my card. I love how it comes before I'm supposed to get it. In the middle of the month I’d be broke and when I get down to the 25th or 26th, I know my money will be posted earlier than usual. I pay my bills all on time because my check gets deposited five days early, and my credit score went up because of it.
Other card companies charge me to use their card and NetSpend only charges $5. Green Dot starts at $10, which is a rip-off so I don’t like them. That’s why I cut Green Dot and that’s why I got NetSpend. I’d rather have them than a regular Wells Fargo CCS banking account. They’re good people and they got good people that works inside of their office just as well. When I go inside of a reload place, they have good people there that will help you. Their reload locations are also very convenient. I can go to Walgreens, PBS, SuperAmerica or Holiday.

I called NetSpend to dispute it and also filed a police report. NetSpend would not let me speak to any type of supervisors or anyone in their fraud department. They would not even communicate with the police detective that was trying to get the information from them. When I call them and somebody answers the phone, the only type of communication they have with the supervisors or the fraud department is through email. They have no way to transfer the phone calls to them.

Years ago, NetSpend was the only one that was doing direct deposit two days earlier for my payroll than others. I’m able to pay my bills sooner and faster with them. It hasn’t been all that great with the representative though. I had to call them quite a few times. In one instance they were knowledgeable and in another instance where they were giving me policies and procedures as far as how they changed, I didn’t get a notification in the mail so I was upset about that.

NetSpend has direct deposit and usually I get the deposit a week earlier. At the time when I had a job, the direct deposit helped out. Everything's been awesome. There's one time that I had fraud charges, and the reps helped me out getting my funds back in a reasonable amount of time. They were there to help me to work out what they needed for me that's why I'm still with them. The card is all good to me. There's only one problem though - some hotels don't take prepaid cards but then I was trying to tell them that this is my bank also, it's not just a prepaid. It happened a couple of times. But other than that, the card has worked out for me. I love how I get text alerts every time anything is charged or deposited, and I get it right to my phone so that's a good benefit. I'm very satisfied. Keep up the good work at NetSpend and don't change anything for now.

I WISH I COULD GIVE THIS ZERO STARS!!! Netspend has the WORST customer service ever. I have never been so DISRESPECTED in my entire life. First they block my account for "fraud" and tell me that they always block everyone's new account at first, and that everyone has to send in copies of their license and ss card and a utility bill, well, my husband purchased a card at the same time and didn't have to jump through these hoops! Thought they already verified who I am when I went and purchased the card at the store!!!
After talking to several different reps, I've gotten a different story every single time. The latest today from one rep was that my account was no longer locked, BECAUSE I SENT them the documents they requested, and then he hung up on me. When I called back I was told that my account was locked! When I asked to speak to a supervisor she said "sure, but you're gonna get told the same thing" and clicked me onto hold before I could respond. I am a small business owner, and will be spending my time I could have been working, but now can't because of this card issue, on writing reviews everywhere that I can!!!

The last time I spoke to a representative which was yesterday I got a really rude customer assistance. I had filed three disputes. One with Jamberry Nails where they took two 20.00 dollar payments out one on one day and the other two days later and I only ordered the first so this was fraud on their company. I was turned down on that dispute and have tried to get it straight and with no success. The other was from a fitness place I had never heard of and they had been withdrawing 40.00 a month out of my account and I had never even heard of the place. The purpose card credited me back one 40.00 dollar payment from Premier Fitness but have gotten no response on the others so I called yesterday to find out where it all stood and the lady was so rude and told me no other disputes have been filed. I just don't understand. I love my purpose card but would like to understand how this can happen.

NetSpend is very lax on customer service. I've opted for other companies so I don't use them much anymore. Any money that goes through that account, I basically transfer away. They do provide a routing and an account number which allows me to have bank deposits like a payroll deposit, and that's the only thing that I use them for at this point. I don't use them for transactions. Their international fees are astronomical, and I spend a lot of time in Mexico because we have a business there. Also, many times, it took half an hour or an hour to get through to somebody. Then when I finally get to the place where I would normally talk to somebody, instead of me talking to somebody, they will have a message and offer to call me back, often times not calling back. They were pretty frustrating at times.

Turns out, I never got to use it because I took too long and two $5 maintenance fees were charged and when I tried to use the card it was unsuccessful and upon calling I learned of the maintenance fees which were not disclosed when the free money was given to me on the card. The fact that I was in a hurry and needed the money order, so I stayed in which turned into a car buying scenario of paperwork and the "so-called" reward was not a real reward at all. Deceit, dishonesty, and a waste of time.

I was going through a divorce and my children and I needed to have access to our money fast and in a different way rather than the bank. My kids and I also wanted to separate their money so their father wouldn't find out about it. NetSpend was able to help us with that and we were able to do transfers. I also get my money two days before I got paid. So I have the majority of my money going into that program. I use both reload locations and direct deposit options, and it's a lot easier than a bank. It depends on the situation but mostly I use direct deposit. Reload locations were more prevalent before and there was this fantastic opportunity to reload money at a SuperAmerica gas station where one time they would give points. So I would reload money onto my card and my kid's card and I would get points for gas. But now I cannot do that.
I have to buy the reload packages or buy a totally new card. But reload packages are non-existent at certain locations even at a Target or at a convenience store. So when I was trying to load on my phone one time, there was no reload package and I had to buy a totally new card. It got so confused and I had to be on the phone for hours. It was very difficult but once I got a customer service representative, they're very good. Another thing is that because I do direct deposit, I was able to go over five bucks on my account. Now, they don't let me do that. And when I call, they could not give me an explanation. Other than that, I would recommend NetSpend. They have saved me so many times and I don't have to deal with the bank. It tells me when I have and don't have money and I would prefer paying most of my bills through them.

I called a couple of prepaid debit card providers first and NetSpend is the only one where if you pay the $5 a month, you can use your card as much as you want. I liked that because I didn't want to spend $1 every time I did a credit or 50 cents every time I did a debit. So I gave it a try and I've been pretty satisfied with it. I love the mobile check load. My tax return goes right on there so that's lovely.
Then I had one instance where a fake person called and said that they were collecting money and I set up a payment with them. But instead of taking a payment, they drained my account. I called NetSpend and they got me my money back so that was cool. I also love the direct deposit. I do it right where I work so that's easy. I just did it right through my work and they loaded it with Western Union. I'm talking my sister and her boyfriend into doing the same thing right now because he needs to set up direct deposit. I would never use anybody but NetSpend.

When I applied for the NetSpend card online the web form stated clearly that there would be no credit check, however when I attempted to activate it online I had to call a phone number, answer a bunch of questions related to my name and address and could still not get the card activated. At this point I realized that because I have no credit history NetSpend could not verify my address through the credit reporting agencies, so they do, in fact, do a credit check, regardless of whether or not it is a factor in approving a particular account.
The phone representative cited some government requirement that he refused to cite and told me that I must send in documents to verify my address. I firmly believe that the phone representative lied to me when I informed him that I knew about the credit check and I don't believe that it is ethical for NetSpend and their representatives to make false claims. If they will lie about doing a credit check, even for address verification, what else will they lie about?

NetSpend has very poor customer service support for account holders when filing transaction disputes - it's takes several weeks finalize a dispute - which they cancel your debit card - leaving the account holder with accessibility to their funds. I recently filed a transaction dispute, after 3 weeks the money was deposited back into my account. However, I got a text alert from PayPal Prepaid that my debit card was lost or stolen and that my card was cancelled. I placed a call to NetSpend customer service looking for an answer - I spent 3 hours talking to 3 different reps - the last rep stated that my card was cancelled so no further transactions from the merchant can be made. She then stated that a replacement card will be shipped using 2-day shipping. I called back after waiting for 2 days - which I found out that the rep had lied about 2-day shipping.
The Supervisor I spoke with said that they can only use 7 to 10 business day shipping. This show that NetSpend doesn't have account holders in the best interest. There should be a better method to funds accessible faster. I been a account holder for over 5 years now. This really opened my eyes to how this company operate. NetSpend should be used as a temporary option, until a transitional bank account can be started. I'm closing this account after 5 years for non-accountability and poor customer service.

Their online bills payment and purchases were very convenient, other than trying to figure out how to use the FlashPay ID. Once I figure that out, it'll be good. I use their direct deposit more often and it's very easy and convenient. However sometime in March, I had to call their customer service for a dispute because I went to the ATM and tried to get $300 out but it only gave me $100 and it took the $200. Maybe give out small loans to direct deposit holders and take it back when that person's deposit hits the bank. Of course a small fee is charged.

The NetSpend card is great. We have had it for about 10 years give or take. We have used the overdraft about two maybe three times but when you call on the phone you can't understand hardly anyone. The overdraft is great but the overdraft fee could be cheaper like maybe $5.00 and not $15.00 per transaction. It would be very nice to have a loan dept especially if you have direct deposit which we do and if things were right we might try it. Other than that we really like the card. It's great and yes we do talk to our friends about it.

I have three grown children. They live in Texas, Arizona and Illinois. Although grown and working they sometimes need financial assistance. My netspend card allows me to send money within minutes to their cards. I love this process. Also each transaction I make with my card results in me receiving a text which is most helpful. Thanks NetSpend.

I could not be more grateful for what a wonderful thing it is to know that when your guard is down, someone has you covered! I was shocked when my card couldn't be used and when I called in I was blown away by the news that someone in Jordan, another country, was trying to use my card. Well they failed thanks to this card's amazing sense of suspicion. I got my money and new card and they got nothing. Thanks always!

I have had my NetSpend card for over eight years and I made that choice because banks (traditional banks) are crooked with overdrafts fees upon fees. I went with a NetSpend card simply because of those fees I mentioned the banks charge for overdraft and all the other fees is just ridiculous and unbelievable that the Congress and our government as a whole continue to let that happen. My NetSpend account is the opposite of fees and crap. I get my money direct deposited on the card and I pay a flat per month fee of only five dollars and no other fees or hidden costs come up ever. I don't get any other overdraft fees any longer or bounced checks etc., which is the reason I like my NetSpend account so much as once you're out of money you cannot spend anything anymore period.
Have been very happy with customer service with any issues that I've had (which have been very little and few). If I have one small problem it's that if NetSpend puts a hold on your card like a fraud alert or somehow it gets frozen nobody is available to unfreeze it not even an automated system to confirm your purchases to then lift the hold if it is after hours! This exact incident has happened to me a couple of times where NetSpend put a fraud alert on my card which renders your card and money unusable and this happened at 10 PM. I could not get my card to work again until the next morning at 9 AM when NetSpend is open again, very frustrating to say the least.
That is really the ONLY THING that could be done different, meaning to implement some kind of automated fraud alert system that a user can verify purchases or whatever caused the alert/hold on the card in the first place (so this can be done when NetSpend is closed and it is POSSIBLE AS OTHER BANKS HAVE IT)! NetSpend can't leave people without their card/money, and although it is rare to be stranded with no money at 1:00 am it is NEVER OK TO PUT YOUR CUSTOMERS IN THAT SITUATION PERIOD. I've been a very happy customer for many years and I will always have NetSpend, which I am perplexed that the rest of the country has not caught on and they still go to banks, still get overdraft fees, and still get this fee and still get that fee? People they can waste their money all they want. All I know is I'm a NetSpend customer for life!

I have used NetSpend for a few years as my primary banking. My only complaints are, the fees are climbing and that's why I left big banks. I cannot use other ATMs without a penalty. If this continues, I may as well go back to a big bank where they at least report to credit agencies.

By far the dumbest crap I ever chose in my life. A merchant takes 2.50$ from my account. Not only was I told "there's nothing we can do" but I was still hit with a $15 overdraft fee. Screw this card. I'm going back to chase.
