I've had a good experience with NetSpend since I've been getting what I win in the games that I play through their card. Also, PayPal has been giving us cashback for all of the establishments we use it on like Lowe's, Home Depot, McDonald's, and Popeye's for $3.29 a meal at the end of the month, and they connected it to NetSpend. However, I don't like them for cutting my business card because they sent back the gift that my family member sent me. Now I can't get the money that I win through games or any money from my other transactions transferred to my card. They said they cut my card because that transaction was unauthorized and that I was suspicious since I had to send the $40 back. I never had anything to do with that. I've been with PayPal through the years.
When I called NetSpend, they said they can't unblock my card because it was a six months restriction. I also tried getting new cards but I didn't want to transfer my money since I've been with PayPal for many years and I didn't want to transfer my money in the process when they were depositing it because it takes 15 days. I called PayPal and then my son told me not to activate my NetSpend card because they just sent me the card, so I told him I'm gonna try to switch it by the end of March. Other than that, I love them.

Overall I'm very happy with NetSpend. I love that I can get my account balances and recent card purchases texted to me. It is such an easy way to keep track of your money. The mobile app is good and transfers always go through. The only negatives with this debit card are: It's not a real bank/checking account. I wish it was. At the end of the day it's still considered a prepaid debit card and sometimes certain companies won't allow you to use it (rental car agencies for example). They don't offer online bill pay. They offer a mobile to mobile transfer but that isn't convenient for what I need bill pay for (my rent is sent to a private owner). Withdrawing cash at ATMs becomes expensive (2.50 charge from NetSpend and another 3.00 from the ATM) plus you can generally only take out 300-500 per time. If I have to take out my monthly rent (or pay a certain bill in cash) that is around 1000.00, that is 10.00-15.00 in fees.
There are ways to add funds back into your NetSpend account but if you make a mistake, there isn't a way to get funds right back into the card. Additionally, most consumers don't have NetSpend so it's hard for them to make a deposit for you, plus there is a fee to put money on the card. Overall, if you are unable to open a checking account, or if you are worried about online identity theft or you just want a spending account that your spouse doesn't know about, this card/account is worth the 5.00 a month. I would just advise to only use the debit card to get cash back places and get a secured credit card (if you need to) for purchases that won't be allowed with a debit card.
We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us. Thank you for the review.

The card tells you you have to register it. We tried registering it online then we received an email that says they wanted our Social Security number and drivers license proof of residence. The company is giving us 30 days to receive this information otherwise they will allow us to use the card. I called multiple times, spoke to a customer service rep and got hung up on twice. Wrote two different emails explaining the situation and they referred me back to the customer service line. So with this company beware. I ended up having to buy another gift card to give away but I'm now stuck with a $50 gift card and a five dollar charge of something I can't use. I can't get any help from this place and I don't know where to go. Buyer beware.

After trying to purchase a vehicle with my card my funds were frozen. I called customer service they told me the steps I needed to complete to release funds. After doing that, I called back hours later like I was told and talked to a Rep who informed me my pending transaction can't be released because the transaction number wasn't included. The previous Rep gave me instructions that I wrote down and including the transaction number was not part of the instructions. I have ONE pending transaction. Why do I have to wait 30 days for over 3 thousand dollars to be released is beyond me. I will never ever get this card again!! I'm already paying an extensive amount of fees now. I will never allow a company to have this much control over my funds!

I've had NetSpend since 2004 and I've loved it ever since. I spoke with a lot of their reps and they are all sweethearts. They’re really nice and sympathetic to me. With this card benefits include cash coming out and my check going in direct deposit. It’s a debit card so you don’t have to worry about anything because they’re gonna manage your money for you. I do online purchases from my phone because my phone bill is my phone card, and when I pay my bill, they pay my phone and it's really easy. Plus they have cash checking places all around. It’s better than a bank. Overall I would not change them for the world and I would recommend them to anybody. When I get my other cards in the mail I’m gonna transfer everything onto my NetSpend card.
We appreciate you sharing your positive experiences with us. Thank you for allowing us to service your banking needs.

The service I receive from NetSpend is particularly valuable, they notify me of upcoming ESTIMATES, usually very accurate of when my deposits will hit the bank. I TRULY recommend NetSpend to everyone that works and has a family. Receiving my checks up to 2 days in advance has been truly miraculous for our family. NetSpend... You ROCK!

OK I returned a item and received a refund to the NetSpend card on a Friday. Called NetSpend, they told it was a block until they verify them with the merchant. Also to speed thing up send the copy of the original receipt and card would be back on in 5 hours. 5 days later I'm still trying to get my 2000$ back. I've heard 100 different stories, been put on hold for God knows many time to get hung up on. It's got to be something done to this company. This is my $ and they will not give it to me. I'm going to call the news and do whatever I can do to expose the illegal business this company is getting away with. Every time I call on hold for hours then they keep telling I have to wait two business day for something that's mine already. They have no right to hold my funds that a retailer refunded to me. Please do not use this company. I'm seeking to get a lawyer so if anyone else have went through the same thing contact me.

It finally got resolved after 2-3 weeks going back and forth with the documents department and customer service. Some of the customer service reps was not very polite. I like NetSpend but have considered switching but for the card I like it.

On 2/24/17 I electronically transferred $200.00 to my Wells Fargo account a $150.00 deposit to checking and a $50.00 deposit to savings. I didn't see the transaction so I called Netspend customer service and was told the transaction would not process because Netspend does not deposit funds to other banks. Then on 3/2/17 at 10:38 am I got a text message from Netspend saying the $50.00 transfer went through and at 10:43 am another text message saying the $150.00 transfer was processed. Today is 3/6/17 and neither Netspend nor Wells Fargo has my money and Netspend can't tell me where it is. I have just lost $200.00 in cyber space and nobody cares. Netspend says I can dispute the charge. I can't afford to wait 30 days to find out where the money is and I don't understand why Netspend doesn't care. As soon as this is cleared up I will close my Netspend account (which I have had since 2011). I WANT MY MONEY!!!

I give one star just because there is nothing lower. Poor no English speaking or understanding customer service lacking in intelligence, care, or the ability to try to help NETSPEND'S customer base. I cannot believe they would even venture in to a new line called Brinks or that Brinks would allow the name association. I called as I do every year to set my acct for out of country travel. I had my dates and my destinations. 3 calls no one would help or they pretended to understand. Ask for a supervisor and get hung up on. VERY PROFESSIONAL.
I sent multiple emails getting canned answers and no help. Best answer was contact customer service, what a disservice you are providing. I get to Mexico try to use my card and my account is instantly locked. It took 3 days of calls to get my account unlocked. This company is a joke and I am ashamed to use them. I do not have my order number as I give up on this terrible company and have deleted the emails. Future customers of NETSPEND or BRINKS BEWARE BE WARNED. NEGATIVE STARS WOULD BE MORE ACCURATE.

I used to be with a different card provider but I went with NetSpend because they give the money two days earlier. I used to get paid on Friday. With them, I get paid on Wednesday, so it's much convenient. My account reloads my money faster and then I could do more during the week than wait until Friday because sometimes on Fridays, I can't get there because the place is closed and sometimes I don't take it over the phone either.
I reloaded $40 last week at the IGA in Bowman, South California and it was very easy. But I didn't like what they did summertime. When I was trying to get my daughter a card, I sent them all my documentations like marriage certificate, birth certificate, her birth certificate, and Social Security card. They promised me she was gonna get a card but they never did it and every time I called, it was another reason. "Oh, send me a copy of your bill," so I sent the light bill. "Oh, send me another copy of your license," and I resent that.
It took me 30 days to try to get it right, and at the end, they just said, "We can't do it because she's underage." They should've told me that upfront before I sent all of my documentations. I'm uncomfortable knowing that they were sent to someone. They shouldn't tell the customer that an underage girl or a boy that's working a part-time job can get a card. Just tell people upfront whatever the age requirements are and they can't get one, that I can get a second one in my name for her but the job was gonna have to be in her name because she's the one working the job. They told me that they could do it. Come to find out, they couldn't and I really didn't like that. I also referred NetSpend to my coworker and they were supposed to give me a $20 bonus for referring him but they never gave it to me. But other than that, I've been with NetSpend for three years and it's been good.

I have now had my cards for over 5 years. It helps get my retirement funds earlier than by mail thus not having to waste time and fees for cashing such. The only peeve I have is that they had set up a 100 dollar overdraft. Some time ago they would not let me use it. I was told that I used it too much and was told it would take 90 days for me to be able to use it again. Now this year again I was told that I could not use it. And the only way I could was to get a new account number?
Both times I was not informed of these matters prior to their actions. I know that with the 100 overdraft their charge Was 15 dollars. That comes out to 15% fee for using such So I was and still dumbfounded as to why it is beneficial to both parties. So yes I was using it but then again they got their good fee for such. When I inquired about it on the phone to them. It made me feel like I was abusing it when in fact NetSpend was getting 15% fee for me doing such. Other than that they have been good to work with.

I called when I got a message in my "secure inbox" so I called and talked with three different people still not being able to figure out what I needed to send in so that my tax refund would be put onto my card. I even went back to the fine print and it says that the max from a tax refund is $50,000 NOT $15,000!! Your company kept telling me that they needed "something" but I never understood what. So when I finally found corporate's phone number and talked with the lady there she said all they needed was the tax return to make sure it was correct. But when I called back you all had returned it from the company it was sent from!!! Even AFTER I told you NOT to return it - let me figure it out!! I am so disappointed in your company, it's not right. So now I feel that your company owes me $20 for a return fee that I had to pay when it never should have been returned.
Also I'm sorry to say but if you had people answering the phone that spoke clear English I would've understood what I needed the first time. People not knowing their job: 1) Customer service person that answered. (I understand that.) 2) Supervisor and still couldn't understand and she was rude. 3) Every customer service/ supervisor I talked to for two days!! I've been with you for almost five years, I'm done. I will never recommend you to anyone ever again! I want my $20 refunded back to my card, thank you.

I've been dealing with NetSpend for about six years now. I use direct deposit twice a month. It's been a whole lot easier to manage my finances, especially since it isn't typically me who does it. My wife manages our finances because we have two children and it's been a whole lot easier dealing with NetSpend than the typical credit cards or bank accounts. However, the customer service representatives have been a little on the poor and frustrating side. They're not easy to work with especially since they're outsourced and my wife can't understand foreign languages too well or when somebody speaks in English but they're not very good at it. Other than that I'm happy with NetSpend and they're definitely something I'd recommend to family and friends.

I am very pleased with my NetSpend Card. It is so convenient to me that it actually provides me with the opportunity to save money. I say this because with the card I don't have to carry a lot of cash with me at any time. I don't often find many stores or retailers who will not accept my card. There are also several locations where I can withdraw cash amounts if I need to. I also love the idea of automatic phone alerts that help me control my budget and has alerted me to fraudulent purchases with my card number. I was able to dispute the charges and get my money back. I also use my card to pay bills online. I love that my pension check is direct deposited straight to my card account, and in most cases it is earlier than if I was to receive a check by mail. The money is there when I need it and I can transfer to the savings account whenever it is convenient for me to do so.

Then my payroll check was direct deposited 3/1/17. Since my replacement card has yet to arrive I attempted to transfer funds to friend's card. Told twice it was done. 2-calls later on hold 45 mins I was transferred to the fraud dept who had frozen my account. That info would have been good last week. I still don't have a replacement card. The fraud charge hasn't been dealt with, I'm expected to give more information than humanly possible. Horrible service, can't understand the CS agents, outrageously long waits on hold. I would never suggest this company to anyone.

I’ve been dealing with this issue since 3/1/17. I have three pending transactions on hold for the amount of $344.43. I have spoken to different reps and getting different answers as to how this issue will get taken care of. Transaction wasn’t authorized. The wrong CVC number was put in incorrectly so this transaction shouldn’t be reflected on my account in the first place. Transactions are from Delta. I was advised to have Delta send over a letter to release the fund which I have them do three times already with a references number of **. I’ve been told different things each call. 30 days for it to just drop off then 5-8 days then 24-48 hours. These funds are not connect to anything. They’re just pending. Delta advised they cannot and will not take the fund because there were not authorized transaction they’re actually declined transactions. I don’t understand how a declined transaction could post to your account in the first place.
I’ve experienced horrible customer service. I spoke to a rep name Elliot, Trisha, Stan were no help. Two of them just put me back in the queue. When got tired and speaking to me I asked for corporate’s number. They refuse to give it to me. This company and its policies are horrible! All I want is to get my funds that are NOT connected to a transaction released. I will love a call back please.

On 3/2 an unauthorized account transfer was processed on my NetSpend account. I contacted NetSpend immediately regarding the transaction, only to be told I would need to wait 3-10 business days for an investigation into my dispute. Unfortunately, with March rent looming I do not have the luxury of waiting 3-10 business days. I was robbed for nearly $500 and I'm stuck with late fees for this error or unarmed robbery. It may not be NetSpend's fault but they have officially lost a customer.

NetSpend is horrible. The customer service barely speaks English. I can't understand them and they are not willing to help. They also act like they don't know what I'm saying. Then I have to pay fees for everything like using my debit card to make purchases. There's a fee to take money out and another to put money in the account unless I pay $5 a month for the debit card plan fee. It's $3 to load, $2 if I'm using credit and $1 if I'm using debit. And then I can't take money out of my account if I don't have a debit card. NetSpend is convenient if one doesn't want to use a bank but it's nothing like a regular bank. I suggest that they do not charge their customers to use debit cards and to load money into their accounts or any type of fees that are unnecessary.

I used a NetSpend card last year through TurboTax because they said I would get my return faster and I had no problems. However, this year is a completely different story. Within a week of receiving my card, and while I was in the grocery line, it was declined. I called NetSpend and they said my card had been reported as lost or stolen, which it hadn't. They said they would expedite a new card to me and I would have it no later than Wednesday. When Wednesday's mail came and it wasn't there, I called again and this person said, “It had not been expedited” and said, "We don't do that."
I was frustrated because now they said it would be 7-10 days until it arrived. A few hours later, I received a notification that $1500 had been "transferred" from my account. I immediately called and they kept asking me who this Dylan ** was who the money went to. I told them, “I HAD NO IDEA WHO THAT WAS. How was this person able to access my account when I wasn't able to?” So now they tell me, “It can take up to 90 days to resolve this issue.” I need that money for school next week when I go to my off-site campus for a week. This is totally unacceptable. I will never ever use them again.

I can go into the store to load it, withdraw on many locations and go online to review my account. I also receive alerts and text from my phone. With the card, I don't have to keep cash on me and making online purchases and bills payment are very convenient. I use direct deposit and I receive the money the night before my actual payday. Although there was one time when I used the card, but the place doesn’t accept. I then withdrew money from my card and paid cash to that place. But overall, I haven't been refused in places online when I used the card. As a whole, using it was an excellent experience and interacting with the team at Netspend has been fine.

I got Netsped a long time ago. At that time, Netspend was the one that was universal. My daddy got me, my brothers and sisters connected with it. It was convenient for him because he lived in Chicago. If he needed to put some money there with Western Union, that was a cheaper way to do it. Also, it's better to me because I use my direct deposit and then it's more convenient for the majority of my money to come out. I use the card to pay bills and everyday living expenses. It's the convenience of getting paid early because sometimes, if it falls on a Friday that you're getting paid, I would use it to have it that Wednesday. I would go to ACE and then sometimes, I did it in H-E-B to reload and they do it free. I use it as an ATM instead of going to another ATM to get more fees.
I called before when I was making sure that my charges won't go through and that they canceled. They were friendly. I've been trying to recommend Netspend to people because I have three NetSpend cards. It has also been a great experience and it really helps out. But, even though one of cards had gotten an overdraft protection on it, I have to learn how overdraft needs to work. So I try to use it only when I know I'm about to get paid so that way it won't accumulate the fees. But I'm slowly but surely getting the concept.

I've been with NetSpend for five or six years and the only thing I'm not happy with is when I use it to pay my mortgage online, I had to call them on the phone to find out why it was being rejected. And it was because of the card itself. It was no longer accepted and that's not the only place where I've come across that. I am still using it but now instead of easily paying online, I have to go to the post office and get a money order. And I don't have a car so I have to wait for somebody to have time to help me out.
I have been using it from the get go but it was changed. I should have been able to continue with the grandfather clause. I use the direct deposit but I reloaded once through the Family Dollar in Byram, which wasn't too far out so it's very convenient. And when I've had my card stolen a couple of times, I've had to deal with the customer service people and they've been polite, knowledgeable, helpful and respectful. So other than the issue with my mortgage payment, I've had a very good experience with NetSpend. I have so many bills that are due right on the first and getting my disability check a day or two early helps me with that.

I have had NetSpend for about 2 years and LOVED all the features! Especially getting my paycheck several days earlier and the overdraft protection. Recently I got a notification my card was used to withdraw money at an ATM in another city which I immediately reported the card as stolen and filed a claim. I was so scared because not only was a fake card used but they had my PIN which scared me immensely. It was a rough week waiting for a new card and having no access to the money that was taken from me. I was also scared because my taxes were on the way and I'm a single working mother who has no help or assistance besides what I work for myself. I changed my PIN and all passwords and now am very aware where I am using my card and who might be looking over my shoulder when I use my new pin.
I am so relieved NetSpend not only refunded the money back but all the fees that were charged. My best advice is report your card immediately and be on guard when you use your card. I had no idea card trafficking was a real thing. People use malware at stores and ATMs to get not only your card but your pins. They can make fake cards and pull your money out. Thank you NetSpend for making me feel like my money is safe with you!! My only wish is for the chip feature on the debit cards in the future.

I wasn't going to be at the address that I was at the time, so it didn't make it to me in the time that I needed it. I've spoken to several customer service agents about the problem but still can't seem to get this problem straightened out.
I've been informed that my home mailing address is considered HIGH RISK by the courier; couriers being USPS and UPS. This makes absolutely no sense to me considering the fact I receive my mail every other day without any issues and I've also received UPS packages without issues. I'm told something different each time I call customer service. I have a phone number for the corporate office but I cannot reach anyone even after leaving voicemails for the 'higher ups'. A friend of mine referred me to NetSpend and said so many good things about it. I was skeptical at first but then I decided to go get one and try it. Since then, I've been using Netspend for more than five years. I've been taking in majority of my income into my bank account. Then, I've been putting so much into my Netspend Account which I use for everyday purchases and transportation. It helps me stay focused and on track with my budget. That's the biggest thing I like about having it.
It was easy to set up a direct deposit where it routes a portion to Netspend. I like the fact that whatever I have routed to that account is posted a couple of days in advance. They do offer like a little savings account as well. I attempted to utilize that initially but I didn't stick with that too long. Also, I use their reload locations if I need to carry cash. I interact with the cashiers on a regular basis where they know me on a first name basis. Then I like the fact that you can get your money orders at a very discounted price.
Not too long ago, my wallet was stolen and I lost my card with $500 on the account. And so, I called a young lady and told her about my stolen card. I had mixed feelings as I was talking to her because even if my Netspend card was stolen, they won't be able to access my account without my pin. I was thinking what if I mentioned to her that there was money on my card. By the time I was done with my fit she had canceled my card. She said "we had to cancel that card given the money on it". It was so fast. She was so efficient that it tickled me to know how diligent she was. I'm very pleased with their customer service.

DO NOT GET AN ACCOUNT WITH THIS COMPANY!!! I called them to get a phone number from a company who charged my account and they told me they couldn't give me a number. The rep then asked if my card was stolen, I told her no. When she couldn't give me a number I told her I'd look into the charge and get back with them. She said, "If the charge isn't authorized then I need to report your card stolen." I then repeated to her that I didn't want to do that. I've lost a card in the past and had to pay a fee to have it replaced and they also don't transfer funds to any other account but their own, which forced me to also buy another temporary card at Walmart so I could have my money while waiting for my new card to get here. After buying the temporary card I found out that there would be a fee attached to anything I purchased.
I expressed all of this concern to the representative and she was forcing me to repeat that my card was stolen, I then repeated to her again that I did not want to do that because of the stress this caused in the past. I told her I would look into the transaction again and get back with them. By this time I was upset that she was not understanding where I was coming from so I hung up the phone to try and find a number for the suspicious charge. Seconds later I got a text stating my card was reported stolen. I was livid. I called back and this rep assured me I'd receive a replacement card within two business days free of charge. I had no choice but to wait.
Here I am almost two weeks later and I still have no card. I called to speak with a supervisor only to get put on hold for 40 minutes. I tried calling right back but they were closed. The only reason why I'm still trying to get a card is because my check is direct deposited on this account, which I will be canceling. It takes a pay period to process so I have no choice but to deal with them. I will NOT RECOMMEND anyone getting a card through this company because I've had such a horrible experience with them. I was a loyal customer for over 6 years and it's sadly ending this way.

I was doing TurboTax online and an advertisement for NetSpend came up. It said that using the card was a way to get my refund quicker and so I did. I've had it about five years now and I use it regularly. Part of my paycheck goes to the card and I use that for gas and fund money. The card works in every gas pump I've ever used and I don't have to have a whole bunch of information to use it unlike with a lot of other cards like it. However, in the last two months, I've had unauthorized charges against it and they had to cancel it last month and send me a new card which I received within a week. The rep who assisted me was very quick and very thorough.
Then when I looked at the statement this month, there are two more charges there that are not anything that I've done. I don't know how that happened unless paying at the pump bit me in the butt, but somehow somebody's making some bogus charges against it right now. And this time, I haven't heard anything from anybody when I disputed the charges. And I can't honestly say where that stands because they still show on my card and I have not seen where that money's been put back on my card. So I'm not sure exactly where I'm at with this particular dispute, and it's been several weeks. But overall, I'm satisfied with their service to the extent that it's doable.

We have been with NetSpend for quite a long time. My direct deposit from Social Security goes through there, so I do a lot of my banking and paying bills with the card. The money goes on right away and I like that. Whatever transactions we do, it's efficient and it doesn’t take days. And I can use the card for everything. Every time a transaction happens in the account, I get a message on my phone and that helps a lot to track so I won’t overspend. I also pay everything with my NetSpend card which is very convenient. I’ve been dealing with their team for several years because that’s where I got the NetSpend cards from. I go to cash a check there because I have the NetSpend accounts and that makes it easier. I always recommend them to people.

I use NetSpend's direct deposit for a long time now way back when they had a limit, and I was able to get my limit increased with them. I like the way they do business. There were a couple of issues I had but it was taken care of. The only thing was that after they changed their website, navigation became harder. It doesn't show the nicknames of the cards anymore so I don't know what card I'm sending to. I've complained about that and every time if I want to send money to someone who had two cards, I have to get somebody on the phone. Even if I have the flash ID, there's no way I can determine what card is the correct one. It made things much more difficult. Other than that, everything is fine and it's been a good experience with them.

It's a good thing that they have a savings account, it makes me save money. I also like the fact that I get my money three days earlier doing direct deposit. But I've also had bad experiences with them, you're gonna get that in every company. I don't like the fact that I get charged on ATMs and even when I do cash advance, they still take your money. But I like them, period. It's a good bank account to have and it's a good overall experience.

I received a NetSpend account to receive tax refund. Since intended to keep service I ordered a permanent card! My temporary card was stolen so I contacted customer service & was assured my balance would be on my permanent card as it was being transferred to it once activated anyway! However once permanent card arrived next day my balance WAS NOT on my card as they had assured me it would be!
After a lengthy & heated phone call they would only load half my balance onto my permanent card, directing me to call following day to receive remaining balance! They then refused to release my remaining balance onto my card or even mail it to me without a fee! Keeping in mind I had already paid their monthly fee & they still proceeded to attempt to collect extra fees for me to receive money that should already be legally available to me!
In light of having to contact a lawyer just to receive money that rightfully belongs to me! NetSpend denying me access to my own money keep me from feeding my children & meeting their basic needs since all my money was tied up in their account! So I strongly suggest no one else make same unfortunate mistake I did in trusting these scam artists! They will illegally bend reality to scam you out of your money, forcing you to get an attorney just to receive the small amount of money you loaded onto their cards, especially if you foolishly loaded all you have like me!

Unfortunately this year with NetSpend we had numerous problems. Their service department is not trained properly in procedures. Each rep had a different solution. Unsettled today with knowing I am unable to access my funds due to NetSpend's error and the answer - "sorry we are unable to help you transfer funds. You have to wait 7/10 business days for a new card!" My card was already shipped on its way just not here yet. Staff was processing my current card so funds could be released without waiting another 2 weeks. Really, We had already been waiting since 2/10 and card was mailed on 2/15. With today being 2/22 NO CARD???
Now my only option is to WAIT. There is nothing they can do. So hopefully my card isn't out there ready to be used by someone else!!! Needless to say next year we will NOT be using NetSpend. Wish all the best to every person out there on the fence about using NetSpend for their financials. I would not recommend using their cards. NONE of them.

Just having everything that happens with the card show up in a text on my phone is really convenient. I also love the lack of overdraft fees. It's the most convenient thing I've ever used. Getting paid two days faster than anyone else, that work is really nice too. I utilize the direct deposit more frequently. I wait 'til my next direct deposit to cover it because I get a monthly government check and I love the alert saying I got loaded. NetSpend is pretty sharp with me on the mobile alerts and tells me what I got going on and if I don't have any more money so I don't have to be embarrassed by people. I filed taxes on January 28 2017. Chose the option to receive refund on a prepaid NetSpend card. A week later I receive a card with my nickname on it not my legal name. I never received the card with my legal name but received emails saying my funds had been deposited. I called to correct the mistake and I was informed that I needed to send copies of my birth certificate to verify my identity. I explained the situation to them again because of language barrier. The card I had received was not even the card number that my funds were deposited to which I never received. They gave me the option to have funds transferred for free to a family or a friend's card. That is crazy! Then I asked for a new card in my correct name and how quick I could get the card. I was informed that I would have to pay $25 to have it sent 1-2 business days.
They would not waive the fee even though this was their mistake then said they would still charge .97 for a replacement but would take up to 10 business days to receive. After a small debate and being ignored to speak with a supervisor I caved and had them deduct $25 from my funds on the new card. This is very bad business to make me pay for their mistake and not knowing how they even got the information to send a card in my nickname to begin with. At the end of the call I did inform the operator that if my card was not here within the 2 business days that the $25 would be refunded. He ignored me again so I stopped him from his scripted speech and made him acknowledge that they would refund the money if not received within the time frame they had given me. After this I will not do business with them ever again. I will gladly wait for a paper check if need be.

I was moving back to Arizona and I needed to cash a check, and I had gone to ACE Check Cashing for it. I then opened up an account and they told me about NetSpend, and so then I got the debit card. I enjoy them and it works well. So I’ve been a member of NetSpend since 2004. My interactions with the reps are very good. They’re very quick to jump on any issue that’s going on and I always get paid two days before my other co-workers, so that’s good. That’s a nice bonus.
I work for a company that pays me pretty well, and I’m only allowed to have $15,000 in my account at a time. So what happens is, if they deposit my paycheck and I go over, they have to put a hold on my payroll check while I switch money over to my savings account. It bugs me a little bit because I have to take time out and call them and then readjust it. Sometimes I don’t always care for that. That is one thing I would like to see some improvement on. Also, I have a limit of only $1,000 a day that I’m allowed to take out. Sometimes I might need to do a larger transaction. We have horses and if I want to go and buy another horse, sometimes I need cash to buy the horse. I can only do so much in a day and then I have to wait until the next day. So that’s an issue that I’d like to see corrected.

Do not reload a Netspend card with Reloadit if you need your money in less than 4 hours. I spend 2 hours creating the required Reloadit Safe. Customer support is not helpful. Once I managed to create a Reloadit Safe I had to wait 4 hours to have access to my money. At the end of 4 hours my money was available. A few days later I purchased two Reloadit packs and tried to load my card. The first pack worked fine, but the second card returned a message to me that said that I had to wait for my Reloadit pack to be verified.
This really upset me and then I called support. They said that this happens every so often and its purpose is to combat crime and that I would have access to my money in a few hours. This really angered me because I had a bill to pay now. Fortunately I did not try to load a lot of money. Just $20 bucks. Look at the image I posted that shows the actual message received. This is crazy. So do not use this service if you need access to your money right away. This thing kind of feels like a scam!

I went to my NetSpend account and both transactions were there, the money already taken out of my account. However, no transaction ever happened on the other end. In fact, I spoke to the accounting and IT department at the mountain, and since the card was declined, there is no transaction history at all. I talked to 2 people from NetSpend and both said I needed a letter from the merchant telling them they weren't charging me.
The money is still pending in my account and yet they can't refund my money unless I have a letter from a merchant who never charged me in the first place. So now I'm out for the cost of 2 ski tickets ($92 each, plus the stupid $1 purchase fee). I really hope they refund me but from the reviews on here, it sounds like another scammed victim. I'm going to be thorough here, because this is extremely worrying: I never opened a NetSpend account. A year ago I received "Dispute Claim Confirmations" for claims made on 4/21/2017 and 4/23/2017. I'd never even *heard* of the company, was in the hospital from 4/20/17 - 4/27/17 and therefore could not have made any claims, and also had no other messages from Netspend on searching my email, so assumed this was spam –– but archived the messages, just to be safe.
This week, I received my only other emails from Netspend: one says that "activity on your card account has resulted in a negative balance on your account" (2/13/17, 1:19am); another asks if I lost my card because "It's been a while since you've last used your Netspend Visa Prepaid Card so we wanted to invite you to order a replacement" (2/13/17, 9:35am). I'm not sure how a person can both *not use* a card *and* have recently racked up a negative balance –– but further, I never opened an account.
On emailing customer service, they said I could only resolve the issue over the phone. On the phone, it was *very* hard to get to a representative to speak to me without providing my *full* social security number, which I was *not* willing to do for understandable reasons (e.g., that I'd never heard of this company!). I eventually agreed to give the last 4 digits. These numbers, surprise surprise, didn't match the account.
The phone rep then asked for my middle name; again, I did *not want* to give more information to this company, as they evidently do not provide basic security. In fact, one of the two same-day emails I receive0d from customer service was from a slightly different domain name and not even encrypted at a standard TLS level (meaning it was less secure than, say, your average person's email sent from Gmail). When I did provide my middle name, the rep said, "Well, the [first name / last name] *we* have on file has a middle name that starts with an 'A,' and that isn't the social security number we have, so it seems there may have been a mistake." (No kidding.)
She then tried to blame this on Gmail (?!), telling me that my having a period in my email address was the issue and that this other person's email was the same as mine but without a period, and that Gmail therefore must have made a mistake. I explained that Gmail addresses are set so that the period is irrelevant, can be used for clarity or not; an email sent to either version will go to the same account. She continued insisting that the problem was that "more than one person has that email address" (?!?). I was stubborn on this point, because 1) I don't want to continue receiving this person's messages/info, particularly as she's not receiving important information about an overdraft; 2) taking out the period would not change the recipient; and 3) I'm horrified that someone was able to open and maintain an account with this company *without first verifying their email address.*
The emails I received contained this customer's name, their account number, the last 4 digits of their card, the dates and numbers of their dispute claims –– *and,* get this, offered to provide "provisional, or temporary, credit to your account while we complete our investigation," which credit *I* could have applied for because the process was through a written letter not containing confidential identifying information aside from account/claim #s. I doubt I could have *accessed* the money (though, who knows!), but it's extremely worrying that I could easily have changed this person's account.
Further, because the phone representative gave me this person's approximate email address, confirmed their first and last name, and (unprompted!) provided their middle initial, I've already managed to find them online. I now know that this person is a Netspend customer, I know they have a current account with the company, I know they have filed disputes in the past, I know their account number, and I know that they have overdrawn their account.
I'll reiterate the most baffling part of the entire exchange, which is that the representative was extremely hostile and rude; at one point, she even interrupted me mid-sentence, saying, "to cut you off right there––." At the close of the email she did finally apologize, but was still very curt; the "solution" was simply for me to *block the company's emails,* because the info/messages aren't meant for me––but it was not confirmed that I won't otherwise receive them. I see many people have had positive experiences with this company––but, even if the odds are low? You are *not* in safe hands. Partial excerpts attached.

No way will I do that. I have changed my info at work to stop deposits to this account and will be canceling this account as soon as I get my money out of it. In the last few months I've had quite a few interactions with customer service. It was a transaction that was posted to my account. My balance is what I had but they froze my card and I didn't know until I went to go use it because of the charge on my account and they explained to me and asked me if I knew where the place was. I was like, "I've never heard of it." But I didn't think anything of it because it didn't remove any money from my account. Then they had to send me a new card. I have two addresses. I have a physical address and I have a mailing address because where I live, I can't get home delivery of mail. They originally sent by regular mail my new card to the street address but the post office returned it. I had to call back. It is a process and they ended up sending it through UPS and I got it in two days.
Same thing happened recently when I added my husband to the account. For me to have our taxes automatically deposited on to the card, he had to be on the account because of the tax law. They sent him a new card and the same thing happened. They mailed it regular U.S. postal service to my home address and not my mailing address. That was my problem I had when I was trying to set up the account. I tried to do it online like Western Union told me but it wouldn't accept my P.O. Box. But overall, they've been an excellent company to deal with.

I became a member of NetSpend in January of 2017. I have endured one bad situation after another ever since I have become a member with them. I used my card with a merchant at a hotel in the beginning of January 9, 2017, and the merchant was supposed to refund the money that I uploaded back to my NetSpend card for dissatisfactory stay at their establishment. I contacted NetSpend with the Authorization code, client code, merchant ID number and everything else that was given to me from the merchant and NetSpend still did not refund my money back. NetSpend then said "well let's give it some time for the merchant to release the funds."
I called twice a week until January 28th were I was forced to file a dispute at this point. I file the dispute, I go thru the necessary steps required by NetSpend including email them in writing the file date, the amount, the hotel, the dates, etc everything that was required for me to receive my funding back into my account. While going thru this process they had my account information intertwined with my mother's account information and therefore I was locked out of my account temporarily. Also I was issued a new card and paid for the 1-2 day shipping. I then received my card 3-4 days later. I also have went so far of the chain of command to contact corporate and no one and I Mean NO one is attempting to rectify the issue at all.
I followed the due diligence of the NetSpend process and have not yet received a provisional credit of the full amount or partial amount. Or have I been contacted for anyone to accommodate me at all. Every representative that I speak with says I will hear something by February 27, 2017. This was not NetSpend money. This was my money that I uploaded and want back. I will never advise anyone to become a member of NetSpend and I will write a review every day until this horrible situation has been rectified.

I was getting a disability for my son and I was having issues with getting the paper checked, so I enrolled with NetSpend so I could have my son's check direct deposited. My friend's son was getting disability as well, and she said one of the biggest benefits was getting five days prior to the first, and that was the main reason I went with NetSpend. Now I'm able to see the amount of money that I have after every transaction. Also, when I get my direct deposits, I get an email and a text. Other than not having to have cash or when I come across when I'm trying to do something where I have to have a debit card, it's very valuable to have. I used to go to Amscot and get money orders and then have to get the envelopes and the stamps. Using NetSpend eliminates a lot of running around and it makes things a lot more convenient.
One time my card stopped working for whatever reason. I called NetSpend and they gave me the information I needed in order to obtain a new card. There was also another issue about transferring money and they were very informative as far as that went. They've been very professional with me. My money comes and I get it and do what I need to do. If I have any questions or concerns, I call and my calls are answered in a timely manner. They're very helpful in taking me to another level as far as managing my monetary affairs.

I needed to obtain a card so that I can be able to send money to my son who's out of state, and so I got two from NetSpend on the same account and put my son's name on the other. Setting up the direct deposit was easy and then I'd do an internal transfer of money online from one account to the next. I usually do online since it's free and easy, unlike using the automation which charges my account each time. I've been with them for eight years because my money would be there a day before my deposit is expected and I can also hold my savings and regular money without dealing any banks or credit unions. I would highly recommend them to a lot of my friends and family.

I had to have $50 left in my bank account and when I tried to get it out, the bank started overdrafting and would take the $50 and plus. I've closed that account and started having my payroll checks sent to my NetSpend card, which has worked out well for me in the long run. I've had Netspend ever since and now have my retirement and my Social Security direct deposited to my NetSpend cards.
I like my experience with NetSpend. I don’t like to carry a lot of cash on me at one time so if I have to I might carry $20 on me for small things. The only thing I can’t do with my NetSpend is paying my rent. They won’t do it through NetSpend and I have to pay it by cash, check, or money order. Also, when I was going to rent a car because mine broke down, at least one place that I went to would not take a NetSpend card. But other than that, I haven't had any problems with my NetSpend card and I've been satisfied with it for quite a while. The reps have been cooperative with me and if I had any issues, I call them and they help me get it taken care of.

I've had a wonderful experience with NetSpend. Before I had it, sometimes when I went through my regular banking, I would have so many overdraft fees. That wasn't very good because by the time I was able to get paid, a lot of my check has been taken in overdraft fees. But with NetSpend, I've been spending very responsibly since.
Their team has been very nice and I haven't had any problems with reloading the card. The only thing is that at the beginning of the year, my card expired and I got a new one. I had some things that were coming out on automatic pay every month and it was an inconvenience to have to call them and give them my new card number. Besides that, I live in a big city, don't like taking a lot of cash with me and the NetSpend card makes it so much more convenient knowing I can just stick it in my pocket or run in the store with a little pouch. Also, it's very convenient to use it for online purchases.

There was endless confusion with the temporary and permanent cards and their activation. Customer service is in the Philippines. Very nice people, but somewhat limited help. I ran into an issue around New Year's and their customer service reps explained to me what needed to be done. I told them that I had already paid the guy at Domino's Pizza in cash and they still had pending charges. I tried swiping three different times and it kept saying that it didn't go through, yet money was taken from the account. They said it was left in pending. When I explained that to them, they went ahead and they released it to me. The service was good and I wasn't on hold too long.
I like that every time I swipe my NetSpend card, it sends me a text message about what I purchased and what my balance is. It helps me because I try not to carry cash a lot. Also, I love the whole two days direct deposit because I get paid two days before my coworkers do. I've recommended NetSpend to my roommate and he signed up for it. Also, told a coworker about the whole two days faster payment and she signed up for it as well.

However, their customer service tends to get a little frustrating when I get someone who doesn't understand English or speaks very broken English and I tried to explain to them over and over again that I do not understand what they are saying. Not too long ago, I went in to order cards for my husband and I because ours is gonna be expiring the next month. They've explained to me somehow that I couldn't get a card yet because there were three active cards on the account. I said there weren't and yet we didn't get it resolved. We got my husband's card but I never got mine yet so I'm going to deal with that shortly. Other than that, the card is nice to have and the fee is fine. In all the years that we've had NetSpend, this is the first time I ever had an issue.

I have been getting my payroll checks sent to NetSpend since Sept 2016 and already they have messed up! All of a sudden they wanted documents the same documents I opened the account with! When I asked them about my payroll check they said it's pending till I send more documents! What the hell! They couldn't verify me all of a sudden, so they froze my card and wouldn't give me my check! I sent the documents again. I also asked them cause I called for 8 days and I was always some BS "Well we need more!" What the hell are you talking about? I think I have beyond the sending of documents!
I asked them "HOW DID YOU VERIFY ME AND MY CHECK 2 WEEKS EARLIER THAT WAS ON MY CARD?" "Well it was verified by the head office where the checks go!" I said "you people are stupid! Give me the number to the main office that verifies the checks!" "I can't do that." I have been going through this since Jan 27 and to this day nothing has been resolved! I sent a complaint to the BBB because there should not be that inept people working customer service! I told one of the customer service people to get me a floor manager, "I can't understand you and you can't understand me." She said she would get the floor manager and she put me on hold. After 4-5 mins I was disconnected! This happened 3-4 times since I have been trying to get this crap straight!
I will never recommend this prepaid card company to anyone! They are dishonest and they definitely don't have their information right! Every person I spoke with had way different things to say! From "Your check has been declined and sent back to the issuer" to "It's pending and all we need is your verification documents." How have you been verifying my checks for the past 5 months? Never got a straight answer!
So now they finally gave me a TRACKING NUMBER for my check they said they sent back. Only problem with that is I can't find anywhere to track anything but a NetSpend prepaid card and that's not going to work cause it's NOT a card! I'm so angry and dismayed that I can't see straight! Don't have any food in the house, can't pay bills! It's very bad business cause I gave them everything they wanted and more and just kept wanting more! I even knew exactly how much my check was! Didn't matter! So be careful if all of a sudden they want documents!

I noticed it about two weeks after starting to use the card and contacted them.
The first time that I contacted this "Company" they told me that the information was in the startup packet, which I went back and read, it was in the 1-2 font size within the asterisk quip at the bottom of the fourth page. This is something that I would have never started to use, if I had known that and was aware of this. Future consumers beware. They will rip you off and not feel bad about it. I've been a NetSpend cardholder for years and the treatment I just received from them was horrible. Your money is not safe with them at all, no matter if you file a dispute or have all the evidence to prove your case. They don't care what you have to say, they just won't give you back your money. I paid for something online & the money immediately came out of my account a few days later the merchant took more money out of my account for the same item. I called both the merchant as well as NetSpend & both of them on the line together. The merchant sent a fax over to NetSpend telling them to release my first payment but NetSpend never did so the merchant then took out more money again because each time a piece of the order was shipped part of the money was taken out.
I filed a dispute sent in all my bank records of the merchant taking out the money as well as NetSpend sending me a email saying they received the fax from the merchant & will release the money to be but never did. It took NetSpend 45 days to tell me they aren't giving me back my money because of whatever the merchant said to them. When the merchant isn't the one necessarily wrong its NetSpend because the merchant told NetSpend to release the funds & they never did.
I called NetSpend after getting the conclusion of the dispute & they didn't want to hear anything from me and they wouldn't listen one bit. Netspend then went ahead and removed off of my statements where I paid the $135 on November 29th when the money came out right away. There's no way that I shouldn't have gotten my money back, so I lost out on my money and I have nothing to show for it. So I paid $135 twice for items that only cost $135. I'm highly upset at NetSpend and the level of customer service. Don't get NetSpend at all. It's not beneficial to you.

I wanted to get rid of the typical checking account because of several issues I'd had with my bank holding deposits and putting through withdrawals first. With my NetSpend card, I can have direct deposit and it can also be used as a credit card to make purchases online or reserve motels. I've had to call customer service on several occasions and they have always been more than helpful and always friendly! I even had an issue with my card being compromised, and they were quick to get me out a new card and fix the issue! I would definitely recommend NetSpend to others!!!

The first prepaid debit/credit card was Ion Visa. It changed to NetSpend. NetSpend prepaid debit/credit cards are better than sliced bread. It has a very low maintenance fee, no late fees, no overdraft fees, can be used everywhere Visa is accepted. Excellent customer service & great benefits depending on where you load money on your card. I would be lost if I had to totally give up my NetSpend Debit/Credit card. I don't have any need to carry cash on my person. If I do it's very little.

Had their card over a year without issue, however my wife used it to place an order, found an additional charge and called to see what it was. Service rep reported card stolen after he was told multiple times not to (since the card contained all her business funds), refused to let her talk to someone else and actually started screaming at her on the phone. Now her funds are blocked and she is being charged for a new card and activation fees. This is ridiculous.

I obtained a NetSpend card because of the easy direct deposit (and having the $$ in my bank a lot faster). The service is great. The only downfall is if you have to file a dispute for any reason it could take up to 10 days for a provisional credit to be applied, and even that is not guaranteed so if you have any suspected fraudulent activity that you report, you could be without access to cash for a period of time.

I have had my account for over 5 years and receive my social security deposits in it. Now my deposit is going to be lost or rejected and who knows when I will get it. In August/September of 2014 I ordered a new card and the same problem occurred and after a week of calling and emailing I finally was contacted by the right department and my account was corrected and the block removed. I closed one of my accounts with NetSpend and I was upset about that because I had that account for over three years, and I didn't feel like I was treated fairly. A loan place had taken money out from my NetSpend card and they weren't authorized to do that. It was authorized for me to go in and make the payment, but they took it off anyway. If somebody took from me, I would want my money back. It's not like it was a $300 or $500 transaction that I was trying to get back. It was only $114 that was taken away from me. NetSpend honored one charge but didn't honor the other charge. I called some people and talked to them. They understood about one charge but didn't understand the other amount which also came from the same place. That didn't sit right with me, so I said, "Forget it. Just close my account completely. I don't want it anymore."
And then, I got a letter in the mail saying that if I needed any additional information on why they made the decision that they made, then I could contact them. But I had already requested them to contact me, and they never called me back at all. When I was at a gas station, I didn't get any gas. They've caused me to be low on my bills and I didn't like that at all. As far as the years that I've been with NetSpend, they've been good. But it's just that particular time that I was not satisfied with them at all.

I heard about NetSpend when I did TurboTax, probably like two, three years ago. TurboTax recommended it and it’s been the easiest thing because I didn’t have a bank at the time. I could just deposit money and when I have to pay a bill, I can just pay a bill. If I needed to find my routing number, I could go online. I don’t have to deal with so many people just to get what I need. Also, they sometimes have offers that if you spend for Subway or Mc Donalds, then you get money-back rewards and they’ll send you an email telling you when you’re going to get it back. I can use it for anything that you can use a regular debit card for.
I used direct deposit because I worked for The Gap, and that was also good because I could get my money a couple of days earlier. But now that I work for a private organization, I just deposit money and pay my bills with it. Reload locations are really close. You can look online and they show you a lot of different places. You could go to a gas station, or a check cashing place or go through 7-Eleven. It’s really convenient. There are some little perks that I don’t like too much. Like the fact that I can’t call somebody right away if I have to dispute, it has to be done online or it has to through email and they’ll call you right back, so that’s not so bad. They do respond really quickly when you send them an email. But it’s better than a regular bank for me.

I had an unauthorized charge of $1200 on my account and I contacted them immediately to report the incident only to get the runaround. The transaction took place on the 25th as today is the 27th and I've called 6 times unable to speak to a person who can handle the dispute. I've been using my NetSpend card for 10 years and everything works great. I can reload it and have my deposits directly to it. I can use it like any other card to go to hotels, order stuff online, or transfer money. I have three older kids who are always needing money and I can deposit directly onto their cards, which is real simple to do. All of my kids have NetSpend and they immediately get the money. I can also go to any Walmart and withdraw whatever money I want to or reload it. They charge me a fee to reload but it's no big deal. It's like having a credit card without having to pay the interest rates and fees. I just pay the $7 a month and have unlimited access.
The customer service team works great. They're overseas but very business-like, easy to understand and very quick. A lot of times I'll check into a hotel using my NetSpend and when I check out, I call NetSpend and have the hold that they placed on my card removed. And they always do so right away and instantly I have access to that money. They're easy to work with. I have nothing but good things to say about NetSpend. I've been with NetSpend ever since they came out and I've done all my banking through them. However, I had a big problem with them in December. I signed up for what I thought was a student loan forgiveness type program and I was supposed to give them three payments totaling $700. The first payment was $200 and some odd dollars and the student loan place took it out the day before Thanksgiving.
A couple of days later, I tried to use my card and it was blocked. Then the loan place attempted to take out a second payment two days after they took out the first payment but they couldn’t 'cause the funds were not there. Then I called NetSpend and they told me it was a phishing attempt on my card. They said somebody tried to use my card number at a hotel on Thanksgiving. With that and the combination of the loan place that tried to take funds out, they canceled my card. I had a replacement card which I activated so my pay from work doesn't get delayed. NetSpend told me that they tried to send me a card a couple of times but it never came.
The student loan place attempted to refund $231 back to my NetSpend card twice but they couldn't do it because the account was cancelled. I have three accounts with NetSpend so I asked them why they didn't put in into one of the other three accounts and they told me they don't do that. The student loan place had to mail me a check.
I talked to at least five operators and nobody from NetSpend could tell me what was going on. They have a lot of foreign employees who work for them and they either don't speak proper english or don't understand the situation that I'm trying to explain to them. They ask me the same question but they presented it four different ways. Finally, they put me in touch with an American supervisor and we were able to figure out what was going on.
The combination of that $231 missing and my card getting cancelled, all of it was a compound within two weeks. It caused my light and my gas to get cut off and got me evicted. But nobody from NetSpend or the student loan place cared or can do anything about that. Both companies kept blaming it on each other. It was 50-50. First the student loan place shouldn’t have been trying to take payments out two times within a week when I cancelled the loan. On NetSpend’s end, they shouldn’t have taken a week for a supervisor to tell me that the account was canceled. That last month from the end of December to the beginning of January was ridiculous. Other than that, NetSpend business has been perfect.

I've been a NetSpend customer for about eight years. I began using the card right before I started receiving disability so I wouldn't have to worry about a paper trail. I have chronic pain and memory issues so it was really helpful. I have been an excellent customer and since I'm on disability I always pay my loan back between the first and the third.
But a couple of months ago my due date was put down on a different date. I wasn't feeling well that day and I didn't even notice that that had happened until I got a text saying what the due date was. This happened only one time before because another person was new but the manager quickly corrected it for me. But this time when I called to tell them, they weren't willing to work it out for me. I was really hurt about that after being a member for so long. So it's not good and it kind of put me in a bad position. I had nowhere to go with that so I tried to do a monthly payment, which was cheaper, but now it doesn't work and it's all so messed up. It was very disappointing that as an ACE Elite member I was denied an opportunity to have this issue corrected.

First I would like to point out that this is not a credit card and that any monies on the card are 100% owned by the cardholder. You also are required to pay a monthly fee to retain the card. That being said, I noticed a charge from a company that I previously made a purchase from, but had not made this additional purchase. My first thought was to notify NetSpend. I then emailed the company from which the charge originated. By the next morning I received an email from that company telling me the charge was reversed and credited back to my card. That same day I used my card to make a purchase and it was declined?! I immediately checked my NetSpend account for messages and learned that the way they "Helped" me was to report my card lost/stolen and freeze my account.
They then reported that they would mail me a new card that would arrive within 10 business days. I responded saying that was totally unacceptable and that I needed access to "My money" today, not in 10 days because that card held not only money that I had to pay a fee to load on it, but also my child support was direct deposited onto the card as well. Their response was that they were unable to reactivate my card and that (once again) it would arrive within 10 business days. They never bothered to contact the company that I claimed made the charge, nor did they contact me or give me an option to possibly pay out of my own pocket for expedited shipping. All they did to "Help" me was cancel my card. So now I am left without access to "My own money" for up to two weeks. So beware that if you use this card you better make sure you have other cards or cash on hand if you ever have to make any type of inquiry/claim.
Hello Rensje,
Thank you for your feedback. We regret to hear about your experience with our Customer Service Team.
Unfortunately if we are contacted by the card owner in regards to an unauthorized transaction, for security purposes the card is blocked. Deactivation will ensure that there is not any additional funds debited from the account.
When the card is blocked we issue a new card for standard shipping, which is the 7-10 business days. Based on your account type, if express shipping is available there is a fee that applies. If you were not offered express shipping we do apologize for the inconvenience and if there is anything that we can do please do not hesitate to contact us at social@netspend.com.
We apologize again for any inconvenience this matter has caused and appreciate your understanding as we addressed this matter.

My biggest perk with NetSpend is that I receive my VA compensation up to six days earlier. However, they outsource all their work and sometimes there's a language barrier, where certain individuals that I encounter don't really understand some of the things I'm saying and I have to repeat myself. But I've been satisfied with them. If not, I wouldn't have stayed with them for 10 years.

I just received a card from them in the mail without even asking for one. Looked up their site and everything you do with the card you get charged something for it. You even get charged just for checking your balance. I took the card and cut into small pieces and flushed it down the toilet where it belongs. Why would anyone want to use this card if they could get a bank account and not have any charges.

I received a card from Netspend in the mail today. I was very confused. Did someone steal my identity, is someone trying to steal my identity? I called but could not get through to anyone without activating my card and putting my social in, which was not going to happen. All I have to say is WTF! Are you kidding me? You handle your business like this! How can a company send out card you did not apply for and who sold them my information?

Our relationship with NetSpend began in 2006 upon a referral from a local check cashing agency. Nearly 11 years later we still use NetSpend for all of our money needs. Bill pay, savings, money transfers and account access online anytime. Paying only 9.95 monthly. Never any hidden fees. I wouldn't still be here if it wasn't great!

I can go online, purchase at a grocery store, or go into different malls, purchase anything that I wanna purchase, and I can do anything as long as the money is on my NetSpend card. It also helps me as far as if I don't have any on there, I know I can't spend any money. Sometimes, I have the tendency to overspend. I like the fact that I can let my financial aid and my SSI come on there. It's faster than coming in the mail, so I don't have to worry about waiting on a check. It also comes a couple of days earlier. I have told lots of family members and friends about it and a lot of them that have a NetSpend card. I use the direct deposit and its process is easy. It's a great card.

I wanted to have a debit card because I didn't have one at that time, so I went with NetSpend. I am retired now and I get direct deposit, so I get everything earlier than what I'm normally supposed to get so that makes me able to pay my bills better. There were only one or two times that I wasn't able to use it because they don't accept the debit card but I finally got them to accept it after six months of dealing with them.
My daughter is also on my account and one time I had an alert on my phone that some gas was bought which was unusual for her to use my card to do anything without her telling me. So I called her and she said someone broke in her car and took her debit card so I figured somebody used it. I called it in and they took care of everything right away. I've called them on numerous occasions and it was always a pleasure. They always fix my issues or explain it to me. So I've never had a problem with them at all. Overall, it has been a marvelous experience. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

I enjoy my NetSpend card. It's easy to pay bills over the phone and over the internet without being charged. Their people are polite but sometimes I can't understand whoever is on the other end of the phone because they're not American. It's also costly to withdraw money out from ATM but I'd still recommend them.

NetSpend is nothing but liars. They stole almost 430 dollars from me and refuse to give it back. Then calls me a liar when I demand for my money back! Then they claim someone from management will get with you, but don't count on your calls being answered. I tried calling for almost 3 days straight and I can't get a hold of no one. Then the people they hired for CS is pointless because obviously they don't know what they are doing. How does one leave a call back number, but I can't talk to them when I return my call? They are sham and liars. I have reported them to the BBB and I am taking out a lawsuit on them. Them has the nerves to lock my account so I can't see what's going on. Do not get this card. Bluebird from Walmart is way better anyways.

When I went to cash a check at Ace, they told me about NetSpend and that I could get paid at least 5 days faster than any other card. I tried it out and I liked it and kept them. I pay my bills online or over the phone and that's how I've been able to manage my savings. NetSpend pays them automatically and there's no hold. Also, their reps are nice and kind. There was a time I had a difficulty with one of my transactions and I was upset but they were patient with me. They worked with me and helped me out.

Its 100% better managing my finances with NetSpend. Since using the card, I get paid earlier and not be affected partially by outside vendors. I also like the privacy with NetSpend. The only thing I don't like is how they removed my overdraft. I have been with the company for so long and consider myself a senior customer but they took me off like I'm risky or had just signed up. I got to direct deposit and then they removed me two or three months with this. They didn't even notice me. I just found out when I needed and by that time then, I had to suck it up.
But I like the in-house way of sharing money with our family and friends. That's a neat feature. I love it and had shared it with my friends and family. I tell everybody to get on it to utilize it. And one thing I would like, since we signed up to be with NetSpend and we're customers, and I have on going direct deposits is to get a waiver without having to pay check-cashing fees. Other than that, it's been an awesome with NetSpend.
Hello Charles,

We understand your concern about the Optional Overdraft Protection service and apologize for this inconvenience. Please remember, the service is discretionary and the Bank has the right to decline any transaction that would result in an overdraft. In addition, bank policy requires us to monitor each customer's use of the Optional Overdraft Protection service and suspend it if the customer incurs too many overdrafts and appears to be overly-reliant on the service.

This has to be one of the worst experiences with a business I've ever had. I've had several disputes on transactions that come back declined but are still deducted from my account and when trying to resolve it's always pass the buck. It's not that Netspend's problem. It's called the other companies. The surcharges for every transaction is absolutely ridiculous. I was not made aware of it until I called to complain about it to the tune of $100 and surcharges every time I use my card. There's absolutely no type of help understanding even when I explain to my closing on my accounts and over $100 credit on charges that were declined but still went through that they were losing my direct deposits to the tune of $5,000 a month.
They're idiots. They read off scripts and have no power when you ask for a supervisor. It's a joke. You're told that there are none around. I would highly recommend people staying away from this company. I also have a Brinks card that is a prepaid card and they are absolutely wonderful and an Insight Card where they're a great company and have had no issues with either one. Stay away from this NetSpend company card. Be warned. They're idiots. They're no help. They just want your money and it's a joke if you have a problem.

I normally like NetSpend and out of the 7 years I have had them, I have never filed a dispute on anything. My card was compromised and the I was really upset about that and expressed to the rep that I was upset but not with him. He laughed at me a few times, continued to put me on silent, hold and answered my question on a delay. When I asked him to speak with his supervisor he transferred me to that automatic system... This is unacceptable and I will be taking my business elsewhere...

I needed a card and NetSpend worked for me. I like that my paycheck hits two days before it supposed to and it's always on time. I use my NetSpend card to pay anything I got to pay. I never had any problems with it as long as I had some money left. The thing about their reload location, though, was they used to have one where I'm at in Houma, Louisiana. But it closed down and I have to go to Walmart in town now to put money on the card.
When they took my money off the card but my card was in my pocket, I had to call them and tell them that somebody was using my card. Their staff took care of that and I ended up getting my money back. Everything worked out perfectly fine. I recommended NetSpend to my brother and he got one. I recommended it to my sister too. A couple of friends I know got debit cards as well. Everybody wanted to know what kind of card I got because I get my money before anybody else and they like that. I like my card and what it does too.

Horrible company. I was surprised to see it isn't an actual scam. They send unsolicited credit cards, complete with a brochure of "terms" and fees, claiming that someone "indicated an interest in receiving them", give a phone number to opt-out of future mailings, but when you try, you get customer reps in an overseas call center who say they can't opt-out anyone without the card number--which I fear they will attempt to activate. Then they asked for a mobile phone number, which was REALLY out of line -- this was sent to me via direct mail. I'm sure not giving them my mobile number or any other personally identifiable information. I told them I shredded the card already, and they say there is no way to opt-out of receiving their mailings without it. In other words, false claims on the mailings.
Hello K,
Thank you for your feedback. We understand that you have concerns with the card offer you received.
NetSpend works with third party marketing partners that provide us with information for consumers who may need a service like our prepaid debit card. We mail those consumers card offers. The card offer is not active and the card cannot be used unless activated. During activation, NetSpend verifies the identity of each potential cardholder as a part of our Customer Information Program. This ensures that the card can only be used by the intended recipient.
During offer activation, we collect social security number and date of birth to verify identity only. There is no credit check involved in the offer or activation.
We can update our records so that we do not send you any additional offers to the name and address matching the offer you received. However we will need to collect the card number to process this update. If there is anything we can do please contact us at social@netspend.com.
