Green Dot has been amazing! My paychecks go direct deposit and I usually get funds 2 days early. I'm able to use my debit card to pay bills online quickly and effortlessly. Filling my card from other resources is easy as well. They are the only bank I need.

I like Green Dot. Easy to use, easy to check balance, easy to set up direct deposit. Only thing I wish is that with the cashback you have to not be negative and I've only been negative because the card charge.

Green Dot stopped giving me money back on purchase and also never gave me my 100 for the year. But fair ig because it let me use it everywhere and also has a great app. If I had any problems I could log on the app and get my problem solved right away.

I like this alternative to using a physical banking system. I love the fact that I can adjust notifications or alerts so I receive instant receipts via text as well. I haven't had any problems with the service and you get exactly what is advertised.

I bought the Green Dot card from a Giant grocery store, and the first time that I needed to put money onto it, Giant doesn’t service Green Dot cards. It was weird for me. I was like, “You guys sell the card but you don’t service it to be able to upload money onto it.” I had to go to Rite Aid to upload money onto it. Also, some places charge a different fee to upload money onto the Green Dot card. Nonetheless, Green Dot is the way that I can make payments that can’t be made by cash or online purchases. I still use the card, but I usually upload money onto it at a Rite Aid. And I still have the chance to set up direct deposit if I wanna set it up with a job.

I had just loaded my card and went out of town and stopped at Pilot and my card would only pay $5 of my purchase. Some very nice man paid the balance. I was so humiliated and embarrassed. Got in my car and called Green Dot and some bozo had transferred my money thru a pay pal account, no location or any other info. And somehow it was done using my routing number and account number. This is not how i pay, i use my card. I had to go back home and came rolling in on fumes. Not a happy camper. I did some research and come to find out Green Dot is always getting hacked, yet they say our accounts are safe. OK??? NOT apparently. Now i have to wait 10 days to get my money back. My chase would immediately put the money back and go after the culprit. Had to shut down my whole account.

I have been using this card for almost a year now with no problems until now. I need to deposit a check and have been trying for days to submit the verification for my identity. Each time it says it's unable to verify. My app is up to date. I have used a dark background and good lighting. I have called customer service sent emails and have gotten nowhere. This is beyond frustrating that I can't use this feature. I have never had any trouble with other card companies. I also have my paycheck deposited to this card monthly yet they can't seem to fix this problem to keep a customer. I will be changing to someone else.

I like that with my Green Dot card, I can look on there and see my account balance. I have it for almost a year now and I use it for purchasing and paying bills online. It's wonderful and helpful with that. I also do direct deposit and I go to reload locations. Where I’m at, I can find one anywhere, so I like it. And if anyone would be getting a prepaid debit card, I’d tell them to go to Walmart and get a Green Dot.

They charge you a fee to activate the card which is not easy, then $7.95 a month. I was given this as a gift, went to use it and it was depleted because of fees. I think it awful the these cards take advantage of people they should have more regulations about advertising these fees. Stay away.

We received a $200 gift for a baby shower. Registered and pulled $180 out.. Went online to check the balance $5.50!!!! Insane. This is sharking at it's finest. I would never ever recommend this to another living human.

Transactions sometimes won't pop up. I received my last paycheck from work but I didn't know yet and did not show up in my transactions or notifications and it has done this before and I would like more info about my card or my options for a new credit or debit card that can overdraft for when I don't have the money to afford things for my family.

Basically, I had a few pending transactions on my account. I called and asked them why they didnt frop off after a week. I was told it would take a month. I called Sept 16 or so and that is when they told me to call back Oct 14th. I called the 17th just to make sure the money did not come back to me. It was 5 separated 1$ holds from Stamps.com. The Pending transactions literally "Disappeared". They had no record of any pendings nor the transaction. The best part is I have screen shots from my phone, of the GreenmDot App showing the Pendng Transactions. I explain this to the non English speaking people on the other line and no one understands what I am saying.
How are you a bank but have NO RECORD OF TRANSACTIONS THAT ARE NO LONGER PENDING! You held the money for a month, then magically tell me it never existed? HAHA.I have the Screen Shots and Call Log on my phone. 2 things of proof. This company did this to me a year ago, on a 100$ gold of a Hotel Pending. Money magically disappeared then too. Told me I had to file a dispute and claim.
If the Transaction is pending and the merchant never takes the money, IT'S STEALING!!!! This is something I find literally impossible. That an Online Bank has no RECORD OF ONLINE TRANSACTIONS. THEY STEAL MONEY THAT PEOPLE WONT NOTICE, BUT I DID! Long story short... they refused to refund my money. Basically telling me I am a liar. I have all the proof though, so I will be going to handle this a different way.

I love 3% online purchases back! I pay everything online now. Besides shopping, I pay all my bills online and use apps to order food etc. It's fun to see just how much I can turn into online spending. I had already been using a Green Dot card for my direct deposit from work and I have had nothing but good experience with Green Dot. Customer service has been very helpful any time I have had to call. And I never have trouble with anyone taking the card.

I absolutely love Green Dot. I love getting paid two days early and that I get cash back with all my online purchases. I have already accumulated almost $200 cash back. Also, I love the fact that now you can load money in the store with no fee.

Updated on 10/24/2019: Again I file on here only to get a call from Green Dot. He left a number. I called 8 times. Each time was on hold over hour so I never spoke to anyone. This case has been going on for over a month. First time they paid part and decided to denied the rest just like guy told me on phone because I made him mad. This has cause my husband to be in ICU because my account was drained from a company overseas and I could not get him heart meds. They reopen the case again and told me again they don't know when it will done. I think time for my attorney. I can't deal with this anymore.
Original Review: I report fraud on my card. Went to get my husband heart meds. Card was declined. I could not log into my account so I called some overseas casino. Was take money out till they cleared it out. I reported it to Green Dot. Here we are 30 days later. They state denied. Closed. I was crushed. I called today only to be told, "Oh I agree." I can see they doing online from different place. We reopen the case but you have wait another 10 business days. So when my husband pass away fo to no meds Someone will be getting a lawsuit. This place crazy. They will not help you. Just crush your life.

Never had any negative issues and when I needed help/customer service I was not put on hold for minutes on end - someone was there almost immediately to assist me. Direct deposit is great because then the monthly fee is waived. I don't think I would continue to use this card if I had to pay the fee.

I started using Green Dot a little over a year ago, and I have had a good experience with it. I was awarded $100 cash back after my first year, and I have allocated almost $100 cash back this year. I get paid two days earlier than most of my co-workers, and I don't have to worry about overdraft fees. My only wish is that there was a free ATM near me that I could use. Every time I withdraw money, I get the ATM fee of about $3, and I get charged by Green Dot.

I like Green Dot because your rewards add up and at the end of the year you get money back. No overdraft fee, direct deposit hits a little early. You can also use it for anything and everywhere, overall it's a good card to have.

I have never had an issue with Green Dot. I am very satisfied. I get my paychecks direct deposited and they are always there a day or two early. I would highly recommend them to anyone and i often do. The mobile banking is also a huge help for when I'm on the go.

I have used Green Dot for 9 years and have not had any problems. I started using Green Dot as a requirement for depositing my paycheck and have used it ever since. Green Dot is a convenient way for a person receive their paycheck or payments from PayPal or receiving money through Facebook without giving out your main banking information. I recommend getting a Green Dot card for any transactions requiring you to give out your bank information.

Way too difficult to dispute a Charge. No actual Cust Ser to much automation. Need a physical service center. Glitches in system. System doesn't show updated unstash balance in real time. Often shows no transfer. Not helpful. Need real time.

Have had the Green Dot card for going on 11 years. Am very happy with the company and the help that they provide as well as know my money is insured just like a brick and mortar bank. With my Green Dot prepaid card, it’s easy for me to add money to the card when I wanted to, instead of waiting for my bank to open and switch into my account. The only thing is when I wanted to switch or to transfer money from my other bank with Green Dot, they don't have my bank in the list of transfers. Other than that, I use the card to pay bills and make online purchases, and I use their reload locations and direct deposit as well.

Been with Green Dot for a few years, I like the hidden money option. It helps save money, the only thing I don’t like is I reach the cash back option within a month or so. I believe it should let you use it once reached and just start over again. I ordered a second unlimited cash back card for that option.

Someone managed to spend $1200 at a Kroger for 20 different transactions but I had my credit card in my possession and was nowhere near the town at the time I disputed it with, my money is gone. Everything I had is two. Cannot pay my bills. I’m a single mom with three kids. I had a little extra money in my account that I was saving for my son’s first car and it’s all gone green dye or not help close the case denied it and said it to done on their end I’ll because Kroger is saying I need to get with my bank. No compassion.
I’m about to go to the news and get an attorney and go to the labor board and anything else I can do because what’s mine is mine and I deserve my money back. These charges were not authorized. I don’t know how somebody could do this but it’s ridiculous and Green Dot should do something about it but they’re not. Not fair and I want justice. It even shows on my credit card statement Time of the purchases where I went to taco Casa and an ATM in my hometown which is hours away.

I had a Visa Green Dot a while ago. And then, I didn't work for seven years because I was taking care of my grandmother with dementia. So, I just let the card expire. When she passed away and I went back to work, I looked for Green Dot because I never had any problems with them. I picked up my card at Kroger. And after I got it, I told everybody about it.
We get paid on Fridays, but by Thursday morning, my pay stub goes on and I get an email from the main office from Pennsylvania, and then my check's on there by 5:30. All my paycheck goes on there and it's not like I got extra cash in my hand, and that helps. I leave my card at home. That way, if I don't need anything, I'm not spending because I want something that I don't need. Since then, I've been able to save a bit more. I try not to have to reload it because it's five bucks to reload it. So if I get cash back, it's just for something that I needed.
I love Green Dot card. I love how the transactions are right there. If I have any questions, I've got an answer right away. Every time I've called, everybody has been helpful. I've never had anybody transfer me to somebody else and I really like it. I've recommended Green Dot card and I tell everybody, "Get that. That way, you don't have to call for your transactions. It comes right up on your phone."

Never really had problems with the card or DD or anything like that. The only thing I might suggest is making the card more available for the money pay apps so that you can use any person to person payment app.

Green Dot refuses to acknowledge that I bought a card with $300 cash on 9/3/19, although I've sent them the receipt, my ID, and photos of the card itself! They keep telling me the case is closed and now are saying I should write them a letter! No, I'm not writing a letter to anybody.. Where is my money? And why do you refuse to acknowledge that I bought this card! This is absolutely crazy and I've never in my life written a complain on Consumer Affairs or BBB but these guys are literally trying to steal my money, and I'm starting to wonder if this is a systematic fraud to some people who buy with cash!
I didn't even get an email this time confirming the opening of my last case on Friday! I have no other outlets other than talking to a lawyer and investigating class actions at this point. If they're doing this to me, there's no way this is an isolated incident. Their every move is designed to get me to give up! Including the 40 minute phone calls that end with no resolution! I was once transferred 5 times over a 90 minute phone call, and each representative spent 3-4 minutes asking me the same verification questions before asking me why I am calling today. And then I explain to them again, which they respond by saying, "We don't see that you ever loaded your card," EVEN THOUGH I'VE SENT THEM THE RECEIPT TWICE, INCLUDING AN EXTRA COPY PRINTED FROM THE SERVICE DESK LAST WEEK! They just send me an automated email that says please send in the receipt!! After they receive the receipt!
On the last call, I said I just want one direct answer to this question: "Why are you holding my money?" Her response was "We are not holding your money." And I said, "well what are you doing with it?" And she said I should write a letter!! WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!?!? The store number is 329. Date: 09/03/19. Time 23:49:07. Transaction Control #: **.

My husband had a pre-paid card. Whether he liked it or not, I do not know. I do know that he used it. He passed away in March 2019 and I called to close the account. I inquired about the refund of the $500 deposit and was told that it would be sent out to our home. I asked if I needed to send a death certificate and was assured that I did not: "I see here that he has passed away." That was April 1, 2019. By June 2019, the check had not been received and I called again... Since the account was closed in March, all identifying information was not (SS #, DOB, Acct #) recognized but I was able to push 0 and get a live person. On June 27, I was told that I would have solid information by phone by the end of the week, as the 4th of July holiday was coming up. No return call.
On August 26, 2019 I called again. I asked again if I should send the death certificate and was told "yes", to send it. I also included our marriage certificate to establish that I had the right to ask for the refund. That was all mailed on August 26, 2019 with a letter including his account # and all pertinent information (SS #, DOB, ACCT #). Where to send the check and who to address it to.
Oct 9, 2019. Still no refund check. I tried to contact multiple times today. As of today, I have not been able to use the 800/866 #'s given to me. The system claims that SS #, DOB and ACCT # are "INVALID" and I am not able to reach a live person. 2 Chats later today, I am given the same 800/866 #'s, with the same result. NOTHING. I have now requested that a rep call me before I involve and attorney, et al. Let's see how long it takes to get a callback. I hope those of you that are happy with the card continue to be, but beware of getting your money back if you ever need to. At least based on my experience.

People stating that GreenDot doesn’t overdraft is a lie! They charge me $9.95 on the 8th of every month and if I don’t have $9.95 in my account than it overdrafts and puts me in the negative! I’m currently unemployed and looking for work but I still have to make sure I have the $10 in my account by the 8th of every month which is ridiculous! On top of that I pay $4.95 just to add money to my account which is fine but Why does GreenDot have to charge so many fees!?
My advice in order for customers to be better satisfied is to just stick with your reloadable fee of $4.95 plus charging to take money out at the ATM but eliminate the $9.95 monthly fee and maybe more people would be happier to use GreenDot! Even when I was working and had direct deposit I was still charged a $9.95 monthly fee and honestly I think that makes GreenDot out to be thieves and using people for every dollar they can get out of them while we’re trying to make a living for our hard earned money! Get rid of the damn monthly fees!

Purchased a Green Dot MoneyPak to add money to my online debit account so I can pay a bill. You can't make a MoneyPak account unless you bought one so I purchased and put $120 on it. Went home, scratched off the numbers and tried to make an account and the website wouldn't let me. Now I will be charged late fee for my bill, out of the loading card fee because they don't refund that and have to wait up to 2 weeks to hopefully get a refund. Lol what a joke of a company. With no real customer service rep to speak to. It probably wouldn't do any good either seeing as though this company looks very shady and scammy anyway. SMH horrible.

They are for real when they say two days early of getting paid before your company's regular payroll day!!! I like the card too but the app tends to act up at times, but Green Dot Bank is good with keeping up with your transactions also. They give you $100 when save up the cash back money you earn for using it to make purchases 12 months without keeping it in a negative balance for a period of one month or over.

First of all not one soul in the customer care department understands a single thing you are trying to say. Second. I returned some items and I am told it will take 2 weeks to get my money due to the system. I call BS. This is a scam company... They are thieves. I am done with them. I thought hey maybe I could use this card and when I have time I'll go to a "REAL" Bank and set up an account. Hard to do when you have school and work, literally no time in my schedule. I was sadly mistaken I should have found the time. Now I can't just cut up this card from this God forsaken company until I get my money in 2 weeks. I do not recommend Green Dot AT ALL.

I have had this card for a couple of years. Somebody stole my wallet and I contact them for a dispute and the person bought purchases in Texas. I live in NC. I call Green Dot and they said my money would be back on my card and they denied my claim. I wrote a letter again and they still never refund my account. They are full of **. I will never use them again.

I got this card as a gift card, I thought. It made me open an account with all of my personal info and immediately took out $8 in monthly fee. So even if you made it 12 months with them, you will never recoup the money you spend with them by getting the free $50 they advertise ... it will just always take more money out. They never did answer my question on whether they performed a credit check on me.
Then to talk to anyone I had to download the mobile app on my phone, which I did not want to do. In the chat room on the mobile app (chat help) they did apologize that it wasn't what I thought it was and closed my account immediately, saying I could spend what was left on the card. Then they hung up on me when I had more questions! I am still pissed. They have even my social security number. I feel like they took everything a friend tried to give me, but how was she supposed to know they would demand all of my personal info? Very frustrating. Just want out and for them to forget all my personal info.

I received an unauthorized debit card charge and I so upset. I talked to 5 customer care reps and they did not help me at all. I do not know why they are constantly debiting 200 dollars from my account. I should have went with my first mind and closed the account because I did like the card at one time. I am very irate. This is elderly abuse. I recently opened a GreenDot account to have my social security, VA, and retirement checks deposited to my GreenDot card. My retirement check was deposited on the October 1, 2019. Then my account was BLOCKED without warning. I have rent due and a host of other bills including needed MEDICATION. But can’t purchase or pay because my account is BLOCKED.

I started working and I needed direct deposit. The company was set up already with Green Dot, so that was the card they gave me. But I like it because from my understanding, from every transaction you make, they give you money back. Still, I’ve never really had a prepaid card and I’m kind of worried because some people are telling me that they’ve gotten money taken from them. And I have a high amount of money in my card. But so far, nothing has happened to me and my experience with Green Dot has been very good.

For the most part I am ok with the services. They say you could get your direct deposit up to 2 days early. I usually get it on our company payday, can't really complain about that. At least it arrives on payday. Also the monthly fee (membership fee) it's a little strap when other cards offer no fee and 5% cashbacks and don't make you wait 12 months to get it. But overall I am Simi happy with Green Dot overall.

The more I use my Green Dot Account, the more I am satisfied with my decision to purchase my card. The phone app is easy to use, I have had occasion to contact customer service with questions and the response is always prompt and helpful. I have a banking account at a credit union but I use my Green Dot more than anything.

I've had my Green Dot card for close to a year now and so far, everything has been perfect. Direct deposits come early. I just wish that I could go to an ATM and not be charged $4. It really bothers me. I believe there’s a specific place you could go to and not have to worry about that. So, I just make sure I had taken enough money out if I go to an ATM. But I don’t like having cash on me, so it makes it challenging for me. Still, I recommended my friends to Green Dot.

This turned out to be the best prepaid card I have ever had. I haven't had a single issue using it. I've been using Green Dot a little over 6 years. You can use it just like a regular bank card. The app makes it really easy to keep track of your transactions and will update you on your balance. If anyone doesn't want to deal with the overdraft fees and hidden fees at regular banks, get this card. They even have a new card now that has a chip instead of just the magnetic strip. I've been 100% happy with my card and with Green Dot.

THE WORST BANK EVER!!! DO NOT TRUST THEM!!! I wish I could use negative stars. On September 20, 2019 I $157.13 was refunded back to my account from Turo Inc. I called Green Dot Bank on September 30, 2019 & asked when will the funds be available? I was informed that they would be available on 10/1/2019. The next morning I checked my account only to see that the transaction was no longer pending & the money wasn't back in my account. I emailed Green Dot documents of my invoice & receipts of the purchase & refund. I've been on the phone with them over a hour & all they can say is they're sorry??!!!

First off, I consider myself a reasonable person, but this ludicrous level of customer service has me frothing at the mouth. I will now venomously tell everyone I know who is considering getting a Green Dot card to go elsewhere. Our 16 year old daughter bought a Green Dot prepaid debit card (her first, and our first as well) and then messed up the account setup process, specifically the SSN entry portion. She doesn't know which wrong number she entered. OK, that's our fault for not supervising the setup process. So, now we look to Green Dot to hep us fix our mistake.
Forget it - Anyone in this situation can absolutely forget about getting any quality level of customer service from Green Dot. The only customer support number they give you (866-795-7597) takes you to an automated system that hangs up on you if you don't provide the card number and SSN (I had all the card info, she messed up her SSN and didn't know what she'd entered). I get it - anyone could have found this card on the street and may be trying to gain access to the funds. I appreciate authentication, but I can certainly prove I paid for the card. So I looked to try and speak to a person.
I used the online chat support at least 7 times (Beverly, Kathleen, Jelly, Gabriel, Debbie, Angela, Ardhel) and was disconnected at least three times (probably a bad internet glitch - wink-wink, or maybe they didn't like my tone). Initially, I opened help tickets. But if you are not at the phone when the supervisor calls the next day, they don't leave a message or number to call back and they close the ticket - this is their description of their process, not mine.
So, I kept asking for someone to call me back now, not tomorrow. They won't do it. They also won't give you another number to call, and there is nobody else you can speak to. You're sent back to the support phone number, which, for me anyway, won't help. So far, I've spent about 5 hours trying to get our $30 back - ridiculous, right? Stay away from Green Dot Bank.

It's convenient, fast reload times, easy to use, user friendly app and website but there are a lot of fees associated with the card and a minimum deposit of 20$ each time in top of the fee to reload it. Many stores can reload for you which is nice. Card had many premonitions and different offers from Green Dot. Friendly customer service representatives.

I have been with AccountNow for years. Problem is they changed to Green Dot. I have had my check direct deposited from my employer 6 months. They had wages they owed me and been having issues when they've already deposited it with verification for a week! I have rent due bills period. Green Dot keeps saying contact my employer so I've been harassing them. Honestly could cost my job accusing them and it's green Dot 5. Never again will I use them! There are too many prepaid cards and banks and I should have known since I've been chasing 700.00 dollars for a week. Someone has my money!!

I recently open an account with Green Dot to receive my VA benefits. The only reason I did was because of the ASAP Direct Deposit which states that I would receive my Federal Benefits 4 days early. This did not happen. I checked with Veterans Affairs and the US Treasury Department and they have all the correct information for my account. The US Treasury also verified that a notice was sent out on 09/19/2019 that my benefits would be sent out and paid on 10/01/2019, 4 days from that would have been 09/25/2019.
I still have not received my benefits as of today which I would have with my previous financial institution that was completely free with no monthly fees unlike Green Dot. I have called multiple times and I’ve been told that nothing has been received, not even the notice sent from the US Treasury. This has put my family and I in a financial bind, due to payment arrangements and that being our only source of income. I would have never open account with Green Dot if I knew that statement was false and would have been paid today with my other bank account. Not only have your CSR's been rude and disrespectful to not only me but my wife as well. Now I don’t even know when I will get paid but absolutely can’t wait until October 1st.
We have four children and at the moment have no food or groceries and stuck at home because I can’t pump gas. I am a US Army Veteran with 2 combat tours and 100% disabled now. It’s very disappointing to know that a company in the US which I risked my life for would treat and swindle Americans this way. There is no reason why Green Dot has not received the notice of deposit from the US treasury. By now it’s a Federal payment and guaranty. Green Dot can not even start to imagine what this has done to my mental health and stability. I hope this issue can be resolved ASAP or I will be forced to close my account and advise the Veteran community of this unfair and deceptive event.

I needed a debit card, and Green Dot was the first one I’d seen in the store. Using the card has fair benefits. There are no overdraft fees so I don’t have to worry about over-drafting ‘cause the card won’t allow me to. That helps me the most. When I’m working for myself, I reload it. When I’m working for somebody else, I have direct deposit too. However, I had spoken to Green Dot team members when I had to replace cards and the service was not the best. They weren’t American and they didn’t seem to understand what I was saying. But overall, my experience with Green Dot has been decent.

Green Dot has an online option - called bill pay that says "we can mail a check for you". I used that to get a check for myself. I submitted this on 9/16/'19. Was supposed to get the check on 9/23/'19. I did not receive as of this writing (9/26). Had chat with customer service - they said the check was not dispatched from their side. When asked for the reason, they said separate team investigates this and that I can get an update by 10/2/'19. It's a long gap. But, they deducted the amount from my account on the day I submitted the bill pay request. So, I am losing the interest for long period of time. When asked if they can credit me the interest for differential days, I was told they can't do that. It's like misusing my money and use it for their own purpose. For lack of better word, it could be said, stealing my money.

I have had Green Dot for about 2 years. Never had a problem until my Direct Deposit posted and I transferred it to my stash account, as I do every 2 weeks. Well now my stats account says $0.00 and no one can tell me where the money I put into my status account is. They told me I would have to wait 2 days for someone to contact me. I have no food, no money to get gas, and on top of that I have a baby. They keep saying they understand and are sorry for the inconvenience but no one understands what a crying baby sounds like and the only $7.00 I had in cash was used to feed him until this morning and now I don’t know what to do.
I’ve never been so angry and emotional about a bank. I work 10 hours and day to get my check and somehow it disappears when I tried to put it in the savings stash they market on their website. I tried to contact them on Twitter and was told they are reviewing it, but until they work 2 weeks and their check just disappears, I don’t think the empathy will be there to actually care. I loved Green Dot, but this has put a damper on how I view them.

I’ve been with Green Dot since 2014, & never had any problems. However my card expires the end of this month. I called this past Monday & was told that the card automatically gets mailed out 2 weeks before the expiration date. Just to confirm I had checked the website’s FAQ, & it read that the consumer just has to “sit back” and the card would automatically be mailed out. Yet I still had suspicions. So I called today & the customer service agent told me that a card was never put in to be issued to me. I hung up and called again, but another agent said the same. I am supposed to be getting paid next week, my card expires next Monday, & I still have no card. I will be canceling my account. Never had problems before, but I don’t work for free!

Absolutely the worst service. Tried to register the prepaid visa I got as a gift and I cannot register the card. Website and app keeps bringing me into a loophole. The customer service is even more terrible because I cannot get into contact with a direct person. Prepaid debit cards are supposed to be easy to use and set up. I definitely would not use this service again. I still need help in getting this card registered or the person just lost their hard earned money.

Green Dot and Walmart sell these cards and say nothing on the packaging about requiring your SS#, DOB, Name, Address and everything else they need to steal your identity. I bought a prepaid card for a homeless person to use and he brought it back saying he couldn't get it activated because it required a bunch of information. I have since tried three times to activate it without providing the unnecessary info, since I already gave them the money to put on the card. I have tried to contact them on multiple occasions through their chat line which is obviously automated since they couldn't answer a more complex question and just referred me back to the activation screen. They have yet to contact me, they've stolen my money.

I loaded a MoneyPak that I was given to my Green Dot account. The person who gave me the card then claimed that they didn't give it to me and reported fraud to Green Dot, and Green Dot locked my account with my money in it. The person who claimed fraud then failed to provide any proof, such as a MoneyPak card or a receipt, while I provided my receipt and ID 5 times, called customer service 30 times, wrote 2 letters to corporate and still haven't received any response from anyone about why I cannot access my money that I loaded with cash at CVS onto this card. This company is ripping me off, do not use them!!! I have been told every single day since September 6/2019 that a "supervisor" would call me back, it is now 9/23/2019 and I still have not received a call back.
Last Friday, a representative told me that no one has called me back because they "don't have my phone number". They ask for my phone number every single time I call, plus, I had to give my phone number to set up the account. Now, they have closed my account, and I can't even access a live person on the phone because the automated system says "this account is closed, goodbye" and disconnects me. The email address they give kept sending me the same stock email requesting that I verify my identity (which I have done several times by submitting every document they requested) but now they are no longer even responding to my emails. This corporation is huge. It is affiliated with Uber, and Go Bank and is a multi million dollar company. Why do they need to steal money from a single mother who works 16 hour shifts to feed her children???

Good Day. I hope this email finds you well. I am here to express my frustration that I have been encountering over the past three weeks with this card that I purchased at Walmart. I purchased the card on the 6th of September with the intention of using all the functions that the card offers. I realized I wasn't able to get a withdrawal at the atm inside Walmart which they say I could and when I queried the issue I was told that my card wasn't fully verified and that it was only registered as a temporary card. I called the number at the back of the card and the agent informed me that I will have to speak with someone at their Corporate head office to have the matter resolved. I went ahead with the agent and schedule a call back which took two business days.
On the second day of the call back my phone got disconnected and that was when I called back the number at the back of my call to have them change the number to a friend's number. I still haven't received that call. I called them today 9/20/2019 only to be told that my account it temporary blocked and they will have to issue me another called back that will take two more business days. I told them I am not welcoming of that idea and when I asked to speak to a supervisor/ manager I was basically turned away by the agent. She kept repeating the managers are busy now and I will have to call back.
I asked for contact numbers and emails for Green Dot Bank ( Corporate head office) and they told me they were unable to supply me. In my honest opinion I think they are a set of fraud and they do not have their customer's interest at hand. There is no way a customer should be waiting almost three weeks to get a call back from the corporate head office. This is beyond acceptable!!!!

I've been using Green Dot for years, and was very happy with it until today! A customer service representative, hang the phone up on me. Yes I was frustrated because I couldn't understand her language, and she was asking me the same questions over and over. That's bad customer service to hang up on a customer. I asked for corporate number, it was not provided to me!! Not even names. It was very unprofessional. I'm seriously starting to think greendot isn't for me anymore. I never disputed anything until today and the customer service was bad. Last week I got hit with 2 $30 charges, because greendot denied my payments. No one could help me in customer service. It's time to move on. I think it's time for them to upgrade some things!!

I got this card as a gift card, I thought. It made me open an account with all of my personal info and immediately took out $8 in monthly fee. So even if you made it 12 months with them, you will never recoup the money you spend with them by getting the free $50 they advertise ... it will just always take more money out. They never did answer my question on whether they performed a credit check on me.
Then to talk to anyone I had to download the mobile app on my phone, which I did not want to do. In the chat room on the mobile app (chat help) they did apologize that it wasn't what I thought it was and closed my account immediately, saying I could spend what was left on the card. Then they hung up on me when I had more questions! I am still pissed. They have even my social security number. I feel like they took everything a friend tried to give me, but how was she supposed to know they would demand all of my personal info? Very frustrating. Just want out and for them to forget all my personal info.

Great card to go with especially if you do not want to open a bank account. Easy to use and hassle free. Never had any issues. You can basically do EVERYTHING with this card that you can do with a bank card, plus it comes with banking info for money transfers and deposits from other banks, as well as direct deposit which you receive a day before pay day. No overdraft fees plus you get cash back up to $100, on purchases. Only down side is the membership fee each month but it's only $9.95.

I have been using green dot for 7 years now and I always get my money on the same time and day of the week I get paid regardless of the holiday. I work for the government so they send out our money every 14 days. Green dot told me that they did not receive the funds so the government must not have sent it out. However Green Dot account is part of an allotment so when my check gets sent out $120 automatically is sent to GreenDot. I have to other accounts that get sent the money at the same time as well. However after getting it every Wednesday for 6 years it didn’t show up in my account.
I tried to explain to them that after taking to the GOVERNMENT Payroll they sent all the money out just like they always do, so there is something wrong on their receiving end. I got hung up on twice by two customer service representatives. And it took me a long time just to get to them. I was counting o. The money for bills today because it was a same day recurring pay for 6 years. I think I am going to seek legal matter with GreenDot because instead of helping find the problem they hung up on me.

I've been using my Green Dot card for about six months now and so far, my experience has been good. I like saving some money on it, but all the ATMs are charging too much when you get money back. There seems to be a trick they play. I purchased items from eBay and paid on Paypal charging my debit card. One of three there was a foreign transaction fee of 3 percent, but not on the other 2 transactions. I will never use them again for ebay or paypal because there is no way to know in advance that they will charge an extra fee.

This card was purchased in error being that it was purchased thinking it was a gift card added $100. When I tried to use it, it stated that the card was not activated. At that time when we went online to customer service realized that it was a bank card. We called customer service and explained that this bought in error and we just wanted the money returned and we were not interested in registering the card. Customer Service stated that we had to activate the card and I advised them that I wanted to speak to a supervisor. I do not need a bank account. I already had one.
Later they asked me to send card details, my full name and address. Which I did along with screen shots of my card. I never received any response back from them yet on that. Again when I called them they are asking me register my details and use the card. I question why are they accepting money in the prepaid card before registering? This is a complete scam.

I’ve had my Green Dot card for years and I love it. When I’m working, I do my direct deposit with them. I just hate the 9.95 fee every month if I’m getting direct deposit. But I like the fact that I can send money to my family through the MoneyPak, and I like the fact that I get paid two days advance. Plus there’s no overdraft fee so you don’t have to worry about it. My daughter and I have Green Dot cards, and I’ve tried to get my other daughter too because she doesn’t like to bank.

They sell these cards like a pre-paid gift card but when I tried to register it, their automated system takes you in a loop. I called the 1(888) 244-7589 number to activate the card and after entering the card number to register it the system prompted me to either download the app or register it online. Either of the 2 options require you to provide your social security number and open a banking account with them in order to use a Pre-Paid debit card. Once the card is activated they will charge you $7.95 monthly fee. Complete scammers.

I was in Walgreens where I first heard about Green Dot prepaid cards. I've been a Green Dot cardholder for over a year now and everything is going well. When I load money, it’s instant load within 30 minutes. The direct deposit option loads faster though. It loads a day before it comes, maybe 2 or 3 days before.

My parents thought they were giving me a Visa gift card to use anywhere. Turns out because of the Visa logo my parents got me a Green Dot card. Well, like every other complaint on here I need to give them my social in order to purchase something. Not going to happen, but now I cannot get the money and every time I call to register the card I cannot get helped because I need to give my social security number. HELP!

I purchased 2 debit cards for use while traveling. I used one just fine. I went to use the remaining cards about 5 months later and BOTH cards were BLOCKED for some reason. Calling SUPPORT leads to an AUTOMATED system with general info. CHATTING is more useful but asks I email or upload some identification document to prove it is me (understandable). They state a 2 day turnaround. I did so once... 2 days, 3 days, 1 week, 4 weeks go by. I check again with CHAT, and they state account is blocked and I need to submit copy of my identification. WOW! I then try to submit my documents online... only to be told that my document has ALREADY been uploaded and to continue waiting for verification. I am now asking for a call back - the timeframe for which is 24-hours! However this ends... it has already been a HORRIBLE experience.

Green Dot was supposed to send me check for my money 3 times in last 6 months and they have sent nothing. They have stolen 761 dollars from me!!!! I’m a single father and need this money to take care of my 2 kids. I get a guy on phone every time I can barely understand and spend an hour just to have him say he will mail a check that NEVER comes!!!

I had had two Green Dot accounts. I opened up a new one because I didn’t know if my old Green Dot had the new banking stuff. And the new one sounded like it was more like a bank card. They said that they shipped it and I should’ve received it, so I waited a little bit longer, but I never did. So I called the number, but it was all automated and I never got a chance to talk to a person. So I went online and closed out the account. I have another one that I have had for several years, but I don’t know if it’s the same as what they’ve been advertising for the other one because some places don’t accept it. I would have to go pull cash out and try to do cash. With Walmart, I can use my Green Dot in the store, but I can’t use it online, which puzzles me. There are some other sites where I can't use it online either. They should have it accessible in more places, especially online. It would say that it's not a valid card.
Having Green Dot really helps manage my finances better. I have the Green Dot app which sends me an email that says I spent so much money at so and so place as soon as I use it somewhere. That way, I’m more aware and I can always pull up the transactions and see what’s being automatically pulled out of the account. I do direct deposits. My check from work is a direct deposit on the card. And to reload, I use the reloading station at Walmart. It’s the closest one I have found near me.

The messed up my card. I put 171.00 on a card and can't touch it. Customer service never responds m. I've called every number I could reach and was hung up on me, or put me back to the never answer number. They said if I sent certain info and a request I could get a refund and it would be 14 days. It's been way over 14 business days still no email or squat. They steal from poor prople. They are low life scumbag thieves????

My son wanted to purchase a gift card for himself to use for $25. This card was purchased in error being that it was purchased thinking it was a gift card. When he tried to use it, it stated that the card was not activated. At that time when we went online to customer service realized that it was a bank card. We called customer service and explained that this bought in error and we just wanted the money returned and we were not interested in registering the card. Customer Service stated that we had to activate the card and I advised them that I wanted to speak to a supervisor. I do not need a bank account, I already had one.
The rep stated the supervisor would call me back within 24 hours which it took them almost a week. Then when they called I missed the call because I do work, so the message that was left was to contact customer service advise them that I needed a refund and they would help. So, I call customer service again and they tell me I cannot get a refund unless I send personal docs to them to prove to them I am who I am. How can they do that when they do not have any of my information on file because I did not register the card. I refused to send anything to them and told them I just wanted my money back and I would be happy to send a copy of the receipt as too when it was purchased. They told me NO. That I had to send the personal documents in. That to me sounds like a scam.
THEY WILL NOT GET MY PERSONAL INFORMATION JUST TO GET A REFUND FOR MY SON'S $25. I told them I would give them my name and address to send the refund check and they refuse. How can they verify that I am who I am if they do not have any information on file as to who I am. I WANT MY MONEY and I will file a complaint with the BBB and the Attorney General in regards to how they handle their business. I bet I am not the only one that has had this happen to them. Now I have to wait again for another Supervisor/Manager to call me back and I was told to leave my line open. Well, I do work and can't always answer right away. This should not have even been an issue. They should just say ok we will send you your refund when the card has not been registered. That easy and there would not be an issue right now.

I have had my prepaid debit card for close to 3 years and have loved it until now. I had 2 charges I disputed recently and my claim was denied. I was told I authorized these charges. I asked how they arrived at this assumption and was told I would get a letter in 30 days. I was told a few weeks ago they sent me a letter I never received nor have they responded to my emails. I was also told the decision was final. They have given zero information and are not answering my questions. I cancelled the card and received a new one but I am afraid to use it because obviously anyone can get my info off the internet (I assume that is what happened) and make purchases and I am liable.

I needed a debit card, and I went in to the dollar store and there was Green Dot. I have a small company where they need petty cash, and so I've been putting money on the card and they've been using it as petty cash. It's definitely more convenient than letting them have cash or having to write a check every time they need something. I can go to Walmart and I can use my company debit card to replenish Green Dot.

Received my first Prepaid Green Dot Card yesterday and this is the worst experience ever. Tried repeatedly to register my card that already has 50 dollars prepaid on it and I can't register it. Online they insist you give them your social security number. They claim that you can call one of their many customer service numbers and register your prepaid card without giving out your social but every single number they give out gives you only automated options that eventually tell you you can only register online. I'm tired of going in circles. Would be nice to speak to a live person. So glad I realized this was a ripoff before buying a bunch of these for the upcoming holiday season. Save your money and buy prepaid cards from your local bank.

I put $500 on my card the other day, I discovered it didn't go on when I sent money to my girlfriend and her 2 children and it was declined. I called and filed a claim. They gave me a claim number and the email address to send the claim number along with pictures of the receipt. That was last night and I still have not had a response.

I exceeded the amount of times I was allowed to register my card, I tried so many times because I never got the verification code via text, I emailed with no response, after I exceeded the attempts, I then received the code and can no longer access this card to register. I have used Green Dot for a couple years. It’s easy and getting paid a day early is a perk. All was well until I broke my phone and chose to get a new phone number. I didn’t realize the mess this was about to cause me. I’m now locked out of the online app because I can’t verify my identity via phone number. I am able to access my email, however by the time the email with the verification code is sent to me, it is expired. I’ve spoke with customer service many many times in the past 2 weeks, but they don’t seem to listen and offer no helpful solutions. It’s absurd, I give them all of my personal info and they can’t change my phone number or give me a verification code via telephone.

I have been a Green Dot user for a long time. I had someone steal my card information and actually use it to get money from an ATM in another state. This person checked my account balance, as I had that fee, and then took all of my money. They denied my dispute and will not give me money back. I have the app, I wouldn’t need to look up my balance at the ATM, and I was in a completely different state! So, I guess if you have money on the card, and someone else wants it, Green Dot will allow them to have it. Very upsetting and disturbing.

I’ve had my card for almost three years now and I’ve had nothing but good interactions with the reps from Green Dot. I use the card to pay my utilities online all the time and anything else that I need to do online, so that nobody can access my bank account. I also love the direct deposit option. I get paid on time, instead of it coming through the mail. When it comes through the mail, you’ll never know when it’s gonna get there. Overall, I love my card and I just convinced two people to buy one.

I have been using Green Dot for my direct deposits from work over the last few months. Deposits including the first one shows up on Wednesdays mid day. That in mind I start setting up certain bills to be paid on the day after (Thursday). Well today no deposit shows up and talked with customer service and was basically told that it wasnt sent to them. I talked the my HR department and they verified that it was sent like always. I was also told a lady in the HR had Green Dot and had the same problem as I did at the same time. Still I still have no deposit and no answer. You can't depend on Green Dot it seems.

My mom has one of Green Dot's cards and she told me that it would probably be best to get one of their debit cards for my direct deposit mainly because of the app they have. I can stash money away for myself for my savings and such and it's easier to keep up with. Also, I don't have to deal with the fees from getting an actual bank card too much. And one of the main things I needed was to get my direct deposit two days earlier. But I was supposed to be getting a card with my name on it and I haven't received that yet. When I try to track the card on the app, it tells me that something went wrong and then it blanks out. Other than that, everything is working fine.

I have been a loyal customer since April of 2018. The one thing I always loved about them is their early direct deposit and it's been wonderful as well as consistent. But now is the first time ever where my money is still not on the card. A friend of mine who also receives SSDI who uses a different prepaid company got paid Thurs Aug 29th (two business days before the 3rd of month). This is when I should have gotten paid. I am very irritated about this, bills to pay, storm on its way and so much more happening. Now unable to get to places and pay my bills. Ridiculous and seems fishy.

I filed my taxes in February. I have been using TurboTax and their prepaid cards for years. They used to be with NetSpend and switched to Green Dot. My taxes were held up because my employer didn't send documents and actually got a fine because of it. I just activated my card today August 30th because I just got my refund. Well even with my card not being active they have been charging me a monthly fee since February. So not only did I wait months, now I was charge for an inactive card I haven't been using. I tried calling costumer service and the lady said that it's their fee for keeping your card active and I kept telling her it wasn't active. She did nothing to resolve my situation even with being a loyal customer. Safe to say I will not be using Green Dot ever again.

Updated on 09/18/2019: I posted a review of the Green Dot prepaid visa, explaining that I purchased it by mistake thinking it was a gift card and the difficulty I had trying to use the card or get my money back from WalMart. I do not want to open an account with Green Dot bank. I do not want to give them any personal information. I simply want my money back and any trace of my correspondence purged from their records.
I contacted the company after they responded on Consumer Affairs. The first attempt I waited 10 minutes for someone to take my call then hung up. The second time - yesterday - I waited 6 minutes and someone finally took my call. The gentleman said he would be happy to refund my money IF I e-mailed or mailed a copy of my driver's license (front and back), a current utility bill, a copy of the prepaid visa card (front and back) and a copy of the receipt.
I told him I didn't want them to have any of my personal information and when he told me the info would be entered into their database I told him to forget it - I'd eat the $40 instead. By the way, they wouldn't pay back the $1.95 tax it cost me. My next actions will be to contact the State's Attorney General Consumer Affairs division and politicians who are advocating cracking down on internet and financial crooks. This is just a big scam as far as I'm concerned and I will take action to help stop it.
Original Review: I purchased a Green Dot prepaid Visa card by mistake at WalMart in Tacoma on August 8, 2019. I thought it was a gift card and when I realized my mistake tried to get a refund. WalMart said they couldn't refund my money because it's a "3rd party vendor". They said I had to go online to activate and use it. I was furious but purchased the gift card I'd come in for and left.
I called Green Dot but no human being was available. I do not want a Green Dot Bank account or a prepaid card of any kind. I went online and had a live chat to voice my grievances and was told I had to activate the card, which I did. I told them I just want my money back and the account closed - I do not want an account or any further correspondence. I was told once I used the card to get my money back I had to go online and close the account.
I tried to use the card at Costco, then WalMart to no avail. It was denied. I again complained to the WalMart store manager because WalMart should stand behind every product it carries. They tried to get the card to work again and it wouldn't. I want my money back NOW and any information Green Dot has on me purged. This is just another internet "banking" scam and I'm surprised WalMart has a part in it. Stay away from Green Dot.

Purchased an additional Green Dot card for our son and loaded $140 on it. I was not able to register after a week of trying, kept getting the error message “enter valid card information.“ I FINALLY got supervisor to call me back after 10 days, and they told me it was a system error on their end and my card was not able to be registered and there was nothing they could do about it... Of course, I couldn’t get a refund because of discarded receipt. THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE and I’m 51 years old. Lol. I’d recommend Netspend over Green Dot.

I chose the Green Dot unlimited car account over several prepaid options with associated accounts to receive my school refunds of scholarship and stipends. This am I get a notification that my deposit posted. I try to login and make payment because I'm a student and I use refund to pay for my campus apartment. It says my account is blocked pending review. I initiate a chat and it says because of large direct deposit. To give them 4 hours and I'll be updated by email. The apartment complex knows when students receive their refunds so they do not charge us late fees or start eviction proceedings unless we stiff them once we get our refunds. So this blocked account for my DEPOSIT can be catastrophic if not resolved in four hours.
I called in and she verified all my account info, name, DOB, address, SSN, phone number. Asked where deposit originated but still repeats the script allow 4 hours. I can't wait two days like some of you folks are saying. I will be homeless. No pay no stay. No grace period when you agreed to use financial aid refund and don't pay on time. I set up autopay for my electric water cell phone and car payment to come out this account as well as rent. It all will be rejected and I'll have returned fees against my account or disconnection. What a nightmare.

Had this card for less than 3 weeks. Check my account yesterday evening. Says my account is blocked. Called customer service 3 times. Got 3 different answers as to why my account was blocked. Checked my account today. It now says my account is closed. There was still money in the account. Asked to speak to a supervisor SEVERAL times yesterday, and was told that someone would call me back today. Then I was told by Thursday. Now it’s sometime Friday.

Overall, I've been very pleased with my Green Dot card and the services offered. However, due to a technical glitch, per Green Dot, an expected deposit is not being handled. I checked out of a hotel Aug 14th and a $50 refundable deposit was processed by the hotel. Last week, I discovered due to a technical glitch with Green Dot, the funds were not put back into my account. I've called numerous times and a supervisor kindly put $20 back in, but I'm still missing $30. I've called to resolve this matter multiple times and don't understand why I'm not receiving my money. I was told Green Dot received the refund from The 3 Palms Hotel Aug 16th. Why am I not receiving my money?!

I've used Green Dot for my online transactions since December 2019. I've loaded thousands of dollars on to my account and it's commonly linked to things like my Netflix, PayPal, and mobile service provider. I've been trying to deposit a check via mobile phone and constantly getting refused. I spoke to countless outsourced operators who only tell me the same information I can see with my own eyes. Completely useless support people who literally sound like they are reading my info of the same app I'm using constantly telling me it's the check, and not the system. So bring a self contracted worker, I'm technically not an employee of the company I work for and they would pay me with company checks. I manage to beg my way into my pay in a typical payroll check thinking it would make a difference. To no avail, they spit that out too. This has been going on for at least a month with no reason given.
I've been told I would be speaking with corporate and never got the call only for them to say they attempted to reach me and got no answer, when in fact I am always attentive to my phone as it is an high part of my job to stay in contact with other coworkers during the day. Being as I have been given no reason as to why I constantly get turned down, I have no choice but to think it's for done discriminatory reason. Sad, because I've used this account for 9 months, and they will gladly accept my cash, that I have to pay 5 dollars to deposit and charge me 8 dollars a month but will refuse my check deposits.

As a new customer, my first direct deposit went to them, and they will not allow me access my money for up to 10 business days! I have no money, no food, no gas and this reprehensible company couldn't care less. To make things worse, no other financial institution will even let me add them to transfer money either, with Discover saying it was "too risky". They are either playing games with me or have the worst phone system in history because I was disconnected four times when I tried getting them on the phone, one of those times when I insisted on speaking to a manager, about 5 seconds into the call.
They refuse to give me any access to cash to get the basic necessities. They should not be allowed to push people around like this. It is wrong on so many levels. Do not even consider any dealings with this shady, unethical company, even Western Union refuses to have anything to do with them. They refused to wire money from my account altogether. STAY AWAY!

They charge you $10 a month fee. Thorne not even using the card that month which makes no sense and you're better off to use NetSpend. They charge by the transaction and it's much cheaper that way so if you do not use the content month you don't pay any any monthly fees which at least with NetSpend you can call and talk to somebody. With greendot.com only thing you can do is online. You can never get ahold of a customer service agent at all.

I have been waiting since 6am for my direct deposit to finish being "reviewed". I have called multiple times to try and speak to someone over the phone, and still no one has answered. I am still on hold while I type this. My son has medication that needs to be bought and we need food. I appreciate the simplicity Green Dot is trying to achieve, but I am having a terrible experience. Now I don't even know if I'm getting my money today or not. I signed up for the unlimited card because I do a lot of online shopping and wanted the unlimited cash back rewards. I have two cards. I opted to split my earnings between the two cards. No problem with the original but the new "unlimited card" is blocked pending review! I am a cancer patient that need to get medication and I can't access my funds. I spoke to an incompetent agent and was told it would be 4 hours, after verifying that the 4 hours was up I was told that I needed to submit my ID and SS card for a ticket to be issued to correct the issue. Are you serious? I did that to activate the card and I AM NOT going to do it again!
It has now been 7 hours and still no money! If something happens to me due to your negligence and false advertising you will pay the price! I am very upset and this stress I DO NOT NEED! Just give me my money and I will never use this card again! I am going to the authorities to see what resolution can be made. This is ridiculous and not acceptable. You will be hearing from me!!!!

I used Green Dot for a year almost and will stop doing business with them. As of today I spoke with 4 agents regarding a problem on my phone app when I couldn’t link my bank account and when I couldn’t access 24/7 chat support feature because it would keep cutting me off and disconnecting me. They would always say, "I see," and "I understand," but did nothing to help me. You're in business for a reason right?! One woman named Belle put me on a recorded line to dispute a transaction???? I got an unlimited cash back bank account card today and that is being canceled as of tomorrow. There was only one nice agent out of all the Green Dot agents I spoke with who had manners and talked to you like you weren’t some robot. Disgusted and not coming back.

Purchased two cards and put the max amount on the cards, they've been sitting idle for about 7 months. I now need the money, I've attempted to spend the money online but the merchant wouldn't accept the card. I went to greendot.com, logged in, saw that I had $428 dollars on the card. Wanted to update the email on the account, when I re-entered the verifying code the web page immediately reloaded to the login page. The login information is no longer working. I attempted to call and speak to someone and I was told to reload my photo ID. I followed the directions, but when I entered the information the screen displayed in red letters the photo ID was working fine. So this company is essentially ripping me off for 428 dollars. Stay away from these mobsters, they will only RIP YOU OFF!

I received my 1st direct deposit & they have "blocked" my account, saying because of the amount of the deposit, and that they have to verify anything over $500.00 and that I must wait 4 hours for the to verify my deposit, and that they do this for all new accounts with deposits that are over $500.00 ... They don't have to worry after this because this issue here alone, is grounds for me to discontinue using this account.
How do you just block someone livelihood without prior knowledge, I called cust service and the lady Jane refused to give me a supervisor, saying they do this to everyone not just me and it's their policy so I asked for the written document showing and she gave me the reference number of our conversation and then said calls are recorded, but they dont have anything written to provide, and I need to wait 3 more hours to have my deposit verified. I am a single parent with 2 kids, and this is the money I worked full time for to support my kids, keep a roof over my head and be fed, and this is not ok.

My child mistakenly purchased this card at Walmart. We did not want to set up an account with a bank. But, good luck getting your money back! And what kind of company charges 10 a month to hold your money for you! Go to a real bank folks! Good luck talking to a real person when you try to call. I can't believe all the positive reviews for this junk bank. Someone in Green Dot's marketing department must be having fun making up positive reviews to post. Walmart is pretty low on my list for selling this card to my 14-year-old!

I did an online order and the order was immediately canceled but bank still has a hold on my money 8 days later. I've called both the merchant and Green Dot several times but Green Dot continues to give me the run around refusing to inform me when my money will be back in my account. The merchant has also been in touch with Green Dot explaining that the funds have been returned the same day but Green Dot refuses to take the hold off the funds.

Updated on 09/09/2019: This is absolutely the most horrible product. Purchased a Moneypak card August 16 in the amount of 500 dollars. Mind you this was for bills that was due to be shut off. Also a low income family of six. After repeated attempts at uploading Id account was blocked so I had to do the refund process. They said it was processed on August 20th and that it was mailed out. That was Green Dot corporate that said that. Well as I sit in the public library to get internet because my phone is cut off and tonight will have to go to a friends to cook because gas company had to shut me off 'cause they could wait no longer and lights will be next still no check I'm just in tears as I write this. I don't know what to do. Oh and I contacted them on Facebook Messenger. They said that if I don't receive it they could cancel that one and I would have to wait two more weeks. Sad that they do this to people.
Updated on 08/29/2019: Ok so after my first review I had someone from Green Dot Corp call me. They said my refund check was mailed out August 20th. I said ok, they apologise for the inconvenience. It has now been almost a week, long distance mail takes 5 days. I still have not received a check. I messaged them on Facebook because that's the only way you can get a hold of someone and even that takes a hour for them to respond to each message they reply and said it was processed on the 20th and will take 2 weeks to get here. Thanks Green Dot corporate for getting my electric cut off.

Pretty sure my utility company is not going to wait that long so now I'm screwed. I did Moneypak so I could access my funds fast and pay my bills. My child received a prepaid card as a gift, purchaser mistook it for a gift card at CVS, was in the same aisle as other Visa gift cards. I have no intention of sharing personal information like social security etc with a random card company. When I contacted Green Dot and requested a refund, they could not be reached by phone or email. So I found them on TWITTER @GreenDotBank and after a few tweets on July 29, established that if I provided proof of possessing card and address, we would receive a refund in 14 business days. Emailed all information immediately.
After 14 business days, contacted @GreenDotBank again for an update. Surprised when they told me that they had just logged a complaint that day 8/17, and the 14 day clock started now. So satisfactory response even after escalating. Customer Service is just a messenger, has no access to real records, does not know what’s going on and cannot provide any dates or concrete deliverables. Stay away from Green Dot. They only want to extract your personal information but don’t deliver.

Tried calling customer service just get an automated machine that tells me to register using the app or website (which I've tried both) and hangs up. I was online and saw an Ad for PA Lottery.. it advertised receive 30% back from Net loss. So I deposited the funds and of course lost. But I didn’t receive my 30% refund as promised and so I contacted PA Lottery. An agent assure me I will receive it in 3 days. That came and went yet nothing was credited to my account. Fast forward after numerous chats online and emails PA Lottery offer a $5 credit for $600 lost which is far from what was agreed upon originally (30%).
So I contacted Green Dot, explained that PA Lottery did not honored their end of the agreement when I first Deposited my money with them, send in chat transcripts as proof and Green Dot denied my claim and said I have to work it out with PA Lottery even though I explained they are refusing to do so and to honor their end of the agreement. Green Dot’s guideline specifically said if merchant promised a refund credit and failed to honor that then as a consumer a dispute can be filed. So I was scammed twice of my money once by PA Lottery and second time by Green Dot.

When I asked the reason why the representative said he can’t tell me why they came to that decision. As a consumer I felt my money was not protected. Told supervisor will call 24 hrs. Nothing. When asked to speak to a supervisor I got the runaround. Been with them for almost 2 years and I am appalled by such behavior. If I tell you I don't have a Sprint account but you do a investigation after I file on the 7th of August date letter for the 7th of August telling me my dispute was denied then gives me PO Box to send in my information which you did not give me time to do that. Please please stay away from this corporation. Varo or Chime is a lot better. Then they want you to give them rave reviews. Well mine is this. No refunds. No deposits will ever cross your corporation again ever and taking my whole family with me. Thieves.

Green Dot Bank finally resolved the fraud that happened on my account back on April 26th,2019. Thank You Antonio for helping me get back my hard earned money that was taken from me. It should have never taken this long to resolve. All the time and effort that I had to put into this, a long time customer should have been taken care of from the get go. Antonio was very understanding and excellent customer service. He should be mentoring the customer service team that a customer has to deal with when you first have to call in for some help on a situation. The company Green Dot needs to fix their fraud department that starts at first contact. It should not have to get all the way to corporate to be fixed. THANK YOU ANTONIO!!!! Antonio get a 5 star!!!!

I would love to give Green Dot a great review because I've had a previous card with them and had no issues and always got paid early. When I found out about the new benefits of the unlimited card, I ordered it and set up direct deposit at my new job. I get paid today, a day early but am locked out of my account. I cannot access my paycheck, or debit card due to "pending further investigation". The payroll is in my name, the card is in my name.. I verify all the information asked after being on hold for over an hour and the only answer I get is "fraud is reviewing the deposit because it's large and a new account, it should take less than 4 hours". I've never in my life heard this BS excuse before about a payroll DIRECT DEPOSIT, and here I sit long after 4 hours with no access to MY MONEY and no answers. I guess this is what I get for switching accounts and getting a new debit card.

While I appreciate using the service, the customer service is horrendous. I moved 3 years ago and changed my address, but still keep getting transactions declined because my address does not match. The money is taken out of my account and held in processing. When I call, after a half hour I am told it will be 7-10 days until the money is put back into my account.

I’ve had Green Dot for almost 2 years. Today their direct deposit system is not working. When I contacted them on the chat to ask where my deposit was all they say is “it’s a technical issue and we will not be able to tell you when your deposit will be available”. I tried calling and talking to someone was on hold for 25 mins 3 different times AND NO ONE EVER ANSWERED. Also left a comment along with multiple other people on their Facebook page and they deleted all of the comments. I will absolutely be dropping them and by the looks of it so will tons of other people.

I've been happy with Green Dot for years but lately their technical issues have been impacting my life in a great way. I know no company can ensure perfect service 100% of the time but they should have a better way of letting people know what's happening. I would hope for a notification that let's me know that my direct deposit is delayed or if I can't access my vault on the day rent is due and refreshing like crazy in line to pay trying to figure out why it's not working.
I used to think I beat the system by not needing a bank account but the peace of mind that comes from knowing that my money didn't just disappear into Lalaland while they fix bugs is worth any stupid bank fees. As soon as I get my deposit (that's late by the way due to technical error the not so helpful chat agents let me know) I'm going to be closing my account and staying far away from the NEW unlimited card they keep trying to get me to switch to. I've had this account since March 2019, used it for putting cash on a card. Nothing major. Decided to go ahead and set up my direct deposit since you get paid 2 days sooner. Well sure enough the deposit was there 2 day early but as soon as it hit my account Green Dot blocked my account. I happened to be up at 3am when my iPhone gave me a message that my Green Dot card in my Apple Pay account was no longer valid, so I went to the Green Dot app and got a message that my account was blocked.
Started a chat session and was told that my account was blocked because I got a direct deposit. Wtf. I thought they wanted us to send our money to them. That was the only explanation I was given other than wait 4 hours and it should be resolved. Waited and started another chat session, was told the same thing. I asked who I needed to call and was given the customer service number. Called them and was given the same answer and to wait 2 days for them to figure things out.
I was going out of my mind at how retarded this was. So I waited and called them again and this time was told it was a 4 hour wait. Who knows what is going on over there. They don't. Hung up. Called again and was told this time that i needed to send them a copy of my driver's license and a copy of my paycheck stub and email it to verifymydocs@greendot.com. I was driving at the time so I had to call back again because I didn't remember the email address. This time they told me I needed to include the case number they gave me which they didn't.
So now I sent off the email. Waited a hour and called them again to make sure they received it, she looked it up and finally found it and said, "Yes we have it and now you have to wait 2 days while we hold your money to make sure this is actually your direct deposit." What a nightmare. I don't know how anyone actually keeps the account after going thru this. I will never be confident that my deposit is going to be available to me or not. Now I understand why people keep their money under the mattress.

So, I got this card and agreed to pay the monthly fee so I could get my payroll deposit up to two days early (as they advertise). My husband works at the same company I do. Paydays are on Friday. He gets his paycheck on Wednesday thru Netspend. I get my paycheck on Friday with Green Dot. My employer releases the money on Wednesdays. Green Dot is always telling me they post it as soon as they get it. That’s BS. I call and chat with them and it’s always the same story. They do not post it early like they advertise. I’m dropping this crappy card. False advertisement.

I have been trying to get an authorization hold from a cancelled transaction released for 11 days and I have gotten more help from the merchant than my own "bank". I'm a disabled veteran on vacation with my family and now we are stuck. I have been told I would receive a call back several times and have not received one yet. Did a conference call that the bank representative suggested I do. She heard them say the transaction was declined by the bank and that the funds would not be collected. Wasted 40 mins of my time only to be told by the representative I have to wait 30 DAYS FOR MY MONEY THAT MY "BANK" IS HOLDING FOR NO REASON. THE MERCHANT EVEN OFFERED TO FAX THE INFO TO THE BANK. Still no help.

My husband purchased a MoneyPak by Green Dot card and loaded $250.00 on there for our kids' school clothes. Our account was already set up from previous deposits and there is already a debit card on file, however, when we went to "add money" We were told to wait the 20-30 minutes. We waited, tried again and it gave some error about the card cannot be used. Then it gave the 20-30 minute error again. And now it has locked me out stating "We're sorry, but we can't complete your deposit. You have exceeded the number of MoneyPak deposit attempts allowed in one day." So now we're stuck in limbo and definitely can't afford to wait two weeks for a refund and the phone system is enough to make a person scream! I don't understand the issue especially since it's the same card and nothing has changed! It was just used last month for a larger amount so I'm looking for answers and hoping to get a timely response or resolution.

I contacted Green Dot before some of the fraudulent transaction had posted. They immediately stopped those transactions. BUT all prior transactions are "under investigation". For up to 2 weeks. I have had no money in my account for 6 days. Today my replacement card showed up. Great I get direct deposit on my payroll and I can pay back some nice folks. BUT now the card won't authorize and they have to send it to technical and will be another 2 days. WTF! My autopays are not going through. I am getting behind. I have people I owe money to... I will be changing to a traditional bank.

I had my tax refund loaded onto a Green Dot Prepaid Visa instead of into my bank account because it seemed safe and I was saving the money for my move which was planned for July. I hardly used the card because I was saving it but I made a purchase in July and the following day I grab that card to buy a soda and the amount was $1.99 and it was declined. I thought it was a mistake and called the card and my balance was $0.00. I was shocked all our money was gone over $2000.00. A friend said, "don't worry. It's FDIC protected. You're covered. That's the entire reason for not stuffing the money away in your house. Just call and report what happen."
So I called, filled out the paperwork. I even overnighted it to their PO box and tracked. My job's done now. We just wait. I called back. The first man tells me my case was declined because they didn't get my paperwork. So I tell him, "NO. You got it. I have proof." Then he spends ten mins telling me I'm wrong. Then I get an account specialist who's telling me she doesn't know why my case was dismissed. Then she says I need more proof. Well it shows me using it on the same day they used it in California. So unless we have invented time travel there's your proof. Still case is dismissed.
It clearly shows the card being used while I'm in my hometown of Sanford FL but yet I have to give them proof. They never even looked at my account. They just closed the case. Well there's no way I'm giving up that easy. I want to know what kind of investigation they did because it was a crappy job. TAKE YOUR CASH AND STICK IN YOUR HOME SOMEWHERE UNLESS YOU CAN AFFORD TO BE RIPPED OFF BECAUSE THEY DON'T CARE. Christina **

I bought a prepaid visa and loaded money into it, and then I realized I did not want it. I could not refund the card until I registered it using my social security and other personal information. I am unable to get a hold of a real person at all, as the help hotline is all automated. I have e-mailed more than 5 times, tried using an online representative, and I even got a call from a supervisor. The supervisor requested my card number, but I was at work so I could not provide it so I asked to reschedule, and she just hung up. Absolute nightmare customer service. I've been trying to get my money back for 2 weeks now.

Well as of now the card is great, works the same as my bank card has, customer service could use a little help tho, sometimes when you try to get a rep it's really not a long wait. The only problem is I can't type/text fast and you tend to get hung up on, I'm pretty sure it don't happen often but I know I was slow to respond so my screen went blank, still haven't got my issue resolved but I think it's of my location not good reception. Other than that they are great.

Updated on 9/21/19: I'm here again to complain about my refund check Green Dot was been suppose to send out to me. I have been fighting with Green Dot customer service for 6 months now. I have provided every piece of documents to rr@greendot.com on Aug 7 & Aug 30. Every time I call Green Dot, they keep saying they gonna send out the check & it's gonna take 2 weeks & 4 days but I never receive no check. In total I have waited 4 weeks & 8 days since providing those documents. I spoke to Green Dot customer service on 9/18/19 & they said they processing my check but I know they lying because how long I waited before. I'm very frustrated & I want my money. They are stealing government money from me!!!

I have had a Green Dot Prepaid card for 1 1/2 years. I was LURED in my their "QUICK DIRECT DEPOSIT". When my paycheck was deposited, I used 7.00 to put into a U-Haul for gas to move into my new rental home. Within a couple of hours, all of my money was stolen out of my account. I called them immediately and was told that "the fraud department is not open on weekends". They allowed ALL OF THE FRAUDULENT transactions to go through at increments of 75.00 each for the same places until all of the money was gone. They made me wait 2 weeks and PROMISED I would receive a credit for the stolen money. I was told today my CLAIM was DENIED. When I called them, I keep getting hung up on. Upon reviewing other websites, I have realized that this happens frequently with GREEN DOT and they do not refund money, They are a scam and they steal money, I believe now they are embezzling money from consumers.

Green Dot bank is the worst bank to use. I attempted to get my first credit card through them with a Green Dot secured card. All was good until I had to pay my bill. I called customer service to assist me with paying my bill and found out it is a $10 fee to make an over the phone payment. I had the representative help me fill out the online form to pay my bill. She was instructing me all the way, however my payment was rejected due to the use of the wrong form.
Green Dot claimed it was an issue on my part and told me I had to pay not only my bill but I had to pay an additional $25 for processing fees of the "bounced" payment. I discussed with them how I was informed what to do by them, thus is was a mistake they made in explaining the process to me and I shouldn't be charged for the bounced payment as it would have went through if they would have told me the correct site to use.
When I called to dispute this fee I was instructed by a very rude representative that there would be no way I would be reimbursed and I should have known what I was doing even though I was on the phone with them for their assistance. She then asked if I wanted to be transferred to a supervisor and when I agreed she simply hung up. When I called back I was informed by the supervisor I demanded to talk to that she didn't hang up the call, that I must have hung up or it dropped on my end. Besides this being very terrible customer service I was also stiffed the bill. I gladly closed my account so they couldn't ruin my credit anymore than they already had.

My experience with Green Dot has gone well. At the time I got it, I was a college student and I needed a card. Green Dot gave me a card that people could send money to. I'd receive the funds on the same day. I was using it for most payments too. The card is convenient for me and I would recommend getting it.

So I wanted to put $1000 on a card and was told that they only do max of $500, so I got two. As I tried to use the first one online, it was declined, so I used the second and it was taken, good. Then later in day, I was needing to take care of my local gym payment and used a card, it was declined, so I used the other and it was approved. Then, the same day I went to check the balance and both charges were charged to both cards! CRAZY! They blame it on the merchant, but when online, and it says "Transaction declined" that is a pretty good assumption that it did not go through. And when the gym calls you and personally tells you that the card declined, that is a pretty good assumption that the card was not accepted. These cards are a joke. I am going to get reimbursed from these merchants (hopefully) and NEVER use these cards again. $1000 is a lot of money to many people and this put me in a great deal of financial hardship, shame on you!!!

I bought this card to make an online purchase for a friend of mine's birthday present. I put $30 on it and it never worked for online purchases then I received another card in the mail. A purchase from a whole other website that said the transaction had failed. Ended up going through and the maintenance fee is ridiculous $8. It hit me for THE NEXT DAY! I’d rather get spit on than buy another one of these cards. Not to mention this was THE most stressful thing to set up and I am a millennial therefore this isn’t my first rodeo. I’ve done this with many cards from TD Bank Card to Vanilla Visas to commercial bank cards and visas. Everything under the sun so I thought hey let me buy this card because I didn’t want to get the Walmart brand one in fear of it ** me just like this company did with this card. Seriously. $8 as a maintenance fee. I’m 17. That’s like half my paycheck.

Updated on 08/05/2019: Today I received call back message to contact company. I called company and spoke to **. He told me I would be receiving a check for $24.00. I thought my case was resolved. I told him my check was for $21.97 and what was $2.03 for. He then stated he made a mistake. I requested to speak to his supervisor and he stated he does not have a supervisor.. He is highest level. He stated to follow up on August 7,2019. 27 minutes on the phone and case was unresolved.
Original review: I had bank issue a check for $21.97 on April 30,2019. My creditor has not received payment yet. I have contact the bank in May, June and July and today. I have not been able to get a copy of the check. I established about 3 internal inquiries in May, June and July 2019 and I have not proof my creditor received the check. The bank has refused to give me the check and today the customer service representative told me the check was not cashed and to advise my creditor they should give me credit for the bank because the bank issued check on 4/30/19. The customer representative told me he was in Philippines. I stated that procedure does not work in US.

I had a job that used Green Dot for the pay. They direct deposited money to the card. That was years ago. I then got another one. I can do anything with my Green Dot that I can do with my other card from the bank. With Green Dot, finances are easy to manage and you can look up everything. There are no overdrafts ever and everything goes on through that. I use the reload locations for my Green Dot but not direct deposit because I had somebody use my other card at a gas pump once and they stole my information. That's when I started using the Green Dot card and it hasn't happened since then. Everything is fine.

Their policy in regards to disputing a transaction is to the close the acct. Closed the acct 6/5/19 and submitted requests for refund 6/15/19. No calls or emails to confirm receipt of requests. I find out 7/8/19, they are unable to view PDF, so I resubmitted the request again that day while on the line with the representative. It is 7/31. WHERE IS MY MONEY? Can't contact supervisor, can't contact corporate, they need to call you back. Lied to me by telling me they called back, then lied again and told me they called another number that was on the account. I was told 2 weeks and 4 days estimate to get my check. It says the corporate office is in California, but I believe it is actually in the Philippines - with a month waiting period, it has to be. No rhyme or reason why their service is very poorly done.

Hi, I have been trying to get answers for a month now but no one I talk to can explain to me what exactly is a funding reversal/payment reversal is and why it continues to happen on my card, and where the money is going that is being reversed... It started with my payment to Credit One which was reversed without me being notified, which resulted in my account being closed, now it has happened with at least one other credit card payment to a different company that I am aware of, and to top it all off I have transactions that I know I’ve made but can’t locate them within my Green Dot account, and Green Dot can’t tell me why.
I have screenshots of a chat with Green Dot showing them saying one thing and then saying the total opposite of what they just told me like for instance first said no transactions was made on the date in question... then saying there was but could not tell me how to access them, then saying I didn’t have a funding reversal on my account, then telling me what a funding reversal from the date in question meant... I deposited $400+ just in July but no records showing it or even where the money has gone. I want answers now. This nightmare has caused me to lose credit accounts, have my credit score drop super fast/low and now after working so hard to get my score to where it needed to be in order to buy a new house with a mortgage company, I can’t get a new home for my family and no one can give me the answers I need or tell me where my money even went ‘cause they been reversed. I can’t hire a lawyer due to no funds so what do I do now.

Green Dot's customer service line could be better. You can only call if you lost your card and if they have a variety of selections when we make the call, that would better. I started using Green Dot when I was having problems with my bank account and I've been with them for two years now. My experience has been fine. And I did get my annual cashback. Also, it's easy paying my bills and making online purchases using the card.

I opened an account this morning for their savings account then found out they charge monthly fees for a prepaid debit card I wasn't even planning on using. I have been trying to close the account for the past few hours and have found nowhere for this to be done. I then opened up a chat with a support representative and was told they cannot close the account without the card number. Considering I have not even received the card yet they were "unable to help me". This is the biggest scam I've ever seen. No wonder their stock price is plummeting. How hard does it need to be to close an account?

They have deactivated my card without telling me! This happened when I asked for a replacement card since my current card was getting ready to expire. I was NEVER told that they were going to turn my card off!! It's been over a week and no card in the mail. I have been calling you daily and begging them to turn on the card I have now so I can access my direct deposit, pay rent, buy food, get gas, pay for medicine, etc.
I have been a customer for over eight years. There is over $1,700 a week that goes into this card. They refused to re-activate my card while the replacement card is being sent. It has been over a week and I have no access to my money. I have been calling you every day. I have been lied to before that a card has been sent - you will not give me a tracking number. I have called every week in July asking for a replacement card, I am told it has been sent, it never arrives. I call every day about this. I HAVE NO ACCESS TO MY MONEY, YOU TURNED OFF MY CARD, I NEVER RECEIVED A REPLACEMENT ONE THAT YOU SAID YOU SENT!

I’ve had my card for over 8 years. In May of this year I received a student loan refund check. I noticed my funds were lower than it should be, so I went to my statement online and found unauthorized transactions. In fact, I hardly use the card. Needless to say, there were 12 transactions from PlayStation that were not authorized. I don’t even own a PlayStation in my home!! Immediately I contact both organizations to report and make a claim. PlayStation informed me that there was no way to find out who made the transactions but they made a report and provided the claim number. They also informed me Green Dot will have to refund the money. I made 3 claims all denied. Every time I make a new claim, I have to waste more time listing the transactions and spend more money for mailing!
Absolutely insane when they have a list of transactions already in front of the Representative at the computer screen. Here it is July 30 and I’m still out of $318 and no one seems concerned. I have autoimmune issues, waiting for my disability approval and my student loans are my only source of income for my son and I. In addition, I was told my card will be deactivated in May, it has NOT! I’m also still being charged monthly fees!! It amazes me how your money can be stolen in seconds but green dot is slow walking with replacing my GOVERNMENT FUNDS!! I NEED MY MONEY BACK ASAP!

I'm so angry. My card expired this month (July) and didn't receive my card 2 weeks before it expired. Called them again, was told the new one would be sent out and the expedited fee was waived. Ok cool. I was supposed to receive the card on July 26th. I call FedEx and they have nothing for me and no label made. Had to get another one sent to me that day. Now this will be my 3rd card trying to be sent to me. This is absolutely ridiculous. I've never had this kind of issue in the 4 years I've had this card. I'm on disability and get paid once a month. Customer service lied to me telling me that I could use my bank and routing info to pay my bills, which I tried to do but won't work. I'm considering taking all of my money out of this account and go with another company. I'm so dang angry right now. Have money in my account and no way to use it????

They sent me a new card and I cannot activate it. Their systems keeps saying, They have a Technical problem or you have tried too many time. On automation systems, I put all info in and it just tells me when I put my phone number in to try again. Collect my correct information. On customer service calls (if you ever figure it out how to get them) they don't know what to do. They have $170.00 of my money and they can't figure out what to do except tell me to go online. I've been told all my information is correct. So round and round we go with no end to solving the problem. Wouldn't let me set up an online account and won't activate the card. But my account is open and active. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE- I hope you don't read this too late.

My nephew received a Green Dot Visa card for a gift at Christmas. He was going on a school trip in May so he saved it. In May we got online to activate the card. It was like a loan application. So I gave him cash for the card. A week later I activated the card. Tried to use it for an online purchase. Would not work. Frustrated, I put it in my wallet. Use got it out to try at Walmart. The card will not work. The app shows Green Dot has taken out $7.95 for June and July. Tried to call, recording says get the app. I have real bank accounts with real debit cards. I do not need Green Dot for a bank account. It was a gift and we wanted to use it. Will not work. Junk, headache card. Do not give Green Dot as a gift

I purchased this card for my daughter with her Bday money. She requested a card to make online purchases. After 2 hours of attempting to register this card at home, I decided to take it back to the store I purchased it from and return it. After another hour and a half at the store and finally talking to someone on the phone, with no help from the card company, the store agreed to authorize a return. But, it wasn't until speaking with someone and getting nowhere with them.
Green Dot cards are a sham, and just work to take people's money. My issue with not being able to register the card, address not valid. Then talking with someone, they stated I needed Firefox, or something like it. I used my phone, we used my daughters phone, and used two computers and it still wouldn't work. I had to use an old address, which allowed me to finish the registration process, and a red screen came up stating the card was not able to be activated.
Talking with a customer service rep, and requesting to speak to a manager, was useless. Nothing but the run around for all aspects of trying to register this card, and I was only able to talk to a rep, after going to the store and the store using an in house number where they provide employee information. If you are looking for a prepaid card, stay far far away from Green Dot. And I am sure all there positive reviews are from people they paid to write a review. Sincerely disgruntled, angry parent, who doesn't like when people take advantage of other people!

Green Dot comes in very handy, I also have a bank account but for direct deposits, I prefer to use green dot due to the early pay day. This really comes in handy. Haven’t had a problem with them since I received this card in September 2018.

I started having problems with my card - some online sites are failing to charge, and sometimes to even register it. In later case (JPay.com) advised me not to try anymore and instead to contact my bank. Which I did on two occasions, and both times the rep. have failed to resolve the issue. Instead I was told a hundred times how sorry they were, but ultimately proved to be useless!

Excellent debit/cash back Visa card with direct deposit! Love it! Shared card features with family and friends too! Would like to see additional bonuses next year. Monthly fee is adequate and fair I believe. A variety of card designs would be nice too.
