I have been trying since DAY 1 to correct my password on my online banking with these people and every time I call I get the same story. We will send you a temporary password to your email... guess what? a temporary password never arrives, and each time I call there is no record of my previous call. I highly DO NOT recommend getting a Green Dot Card!!!!

I purchased a Green Dot card at CVS, logged online to register my card and in the process I was asked questions that didn't pertain to me. The message I got was that there had been a security block on my card. The following day, I called their customer service, spoke to an individual who I could not understand and I asked to speak to a manager or corporate offices. This woman (the supervisor) proceeded to instruct me on how to register, I answered a new set of questions and in return I got a form for direct deposit. I was able to get a personalized card confirmation.

Seven days later I receive not one, but two cards. I logged on to Greendot.com and proceeded to activate my card (the one that had the the same account number on the direct deposit form). I got the same security block message. I called the number they provided and spoke to a "supposed" supervisor. He was useless!!! He did not once clarify the problem and when I told him about my previous conversation he mumbled something to the matter of me not being able to ever activate a card with Green Dot.

When I explained to him that I had never used Green Dot, he made it seem as if the issue was all my fault. He did not offer a solution to my problem, no suggestions and was very short. He said I must have used the back cursor and that's why my account was blocked. I questioned him about a paycheck that had been deposited into the account and he said I needed to wait 24-48 hours for someone at corporate to call me back and 7-10 days in order for me to get a refund. In the end I solved nothing. He solved nothing and now I have no money to pay rent or bills. The worst customer service ever!!! Purchasing this card was a huge mistake!!!

I opted to send my tax refund to my Green Dot Card. When I filed my taxes, my card was active and good to go. The day my money was sent to the card, I called and they closed my account and are mailing me the remaining money I have on my account. They did not notify me of this. I didn't find out until I was checking my balance after the IRS sent it to them. So now needless to say I have to wait for Green Dot to get off their ** and send my funds back to IRS then wait for them to send me a check!!! I am beyond mad. I will never use this company ever again in my life!

I've been having this card for . Longest with no problem. All of a sudden my birth date year is wrong. I had to fax social security cards and state ID... After a least 10 copies they say the picture is clear enough to verify me... Wow... So she asked me to email it so I did... I called and she said the corporate office has to investigate, it can take up to 10 days before it clears. I've call the attorney general... I will not let this rest. Bought a moneypak from local retailer, under the premise that my money would be instantly available for use - as advertised on PayPal/moneypak sites. After purchase, walked back home, took approx. 30 mins. Tried to add money and voila, "unable to process at this time. Try again in 1 hour." Waited 1 hour, voila - "cannot process your request. Please try again in 1 hour." Tried yet again - voila "cannot process request. Please try again in 1hour." Contacted moneypak, got some non English speaking lady of what I think is India. She assured me that it wasn't them and hung up on me.

I then called PayPal, was transferred through several people until I supposedly got the tech dept. They said it wasn't any problem on their end and it should have been right in there. The tech said he would run it through the other techs and supervisors, then set up a time to call me the next day. Pissed by this point I simply requested a refund from moneypak online. I then found out the 7-10 day claim via popup on the screen. Well here it is 14 days later and voila - no check. So here I wait, and wait, and wait.

This is a company that needs to be eliminated period. And PayPal would be wise to steer clear of them also. If you buy into this, be prepared to chase your money forever. As a matter of fact why not just hand it to a stranger walking by, because you'll get the same level of treatment!! Should be called money crack instead because that's where it ends up - deep down in the dark recesses of some greendot hole!!

Paypal states it's on Green Dots end due to the fact that the money shows on Pak, they are just not allowing me to complete transfer. Called several numbers to speak with someone from Green dot. When I spoke with them they said basically that I was in the wrong and it was not their issue. Agent could not tell me if my moneypak was even valid or could not look up the rejects. Total mess.

I put 50 dollars on a green dot moneypak card to transfer to another card my son holds in Denver CO. His name was clearly on the card he holds. But because his name was secondary they wanted the social from the original purchaser, whom he was no longer with and hasn't been with for almost 2 yrs. We did not know her social, nor how to get a hold of her at this time. So they wouldn't transfer the money to my son, who like I said, was the secondary on the card. So I asked for my refund of the $50.00 and the sending fee of $4.64 for non delivery.

Of course they took all my info and told me it would be a mandatory 9 to 12 days. I waited, this was in Oct. of 2013. 12 days have passed so I called again just to get the same crap, sorry, wait another 6 to 9 days. I spoke to people from Utah to Philippines, never getting any one local even though Pasadena is about 2 hrs from me. This went on for several weeks. They even told me 3 times that the check went back to them because the post master here said there was no such address, this house has been here now for about 14 years now.

I went to the post master and told them what was said and he Guaranteed me that nothing has come to my home that was sent back, if it had, the envelope would have there stamp on the front and I should ask for all return checks. I did just that and guess what?, I couldn't get those either. This has gone on now for 5 mos. I have sent a registered letter to the owner, CEO, chief ex, founder of green dot moneypak, Steve Streit in Pasadena CA. I demanded payment of my $54.64 by month's end of January of 2014, it is the middle of February now and still nothing. I still do plan on taking him to court and will ask for punitive damages and anything else I'm allowed in small claims court. I wonder how many other people who just gave up on collecting their refunds because they got the run around. I won't give up, it's the principal of the thing now....

After purchasing a card at Walmart I was unable to activate it for some reason. # 1 issue trying to find a phone number to speak to a person. All numbers are automated. I did after several attempts find that they are affiliated with Green Dot and got a rep on the phone. She went over the problem with me and assured me I would get a refund check in the mail 7 to 10 business days. Stating the card had problems and not to use it.

After 10 days and no check I called and was told the refund was never issued, that the rep was wrong and that the card was good. At this point I just wanted my money refunded. I am now told it will take an additional 10 to 14 days for that to be processed. I think this company is a rip-off and this is outrageous!

I deposited $60.00 on my card at Walmart this morning to cover an automatic $50.00 student loan payment that is scheduled to be withdrawn from the card tomorrow. I paid the $60 plus the fee of 3.74. I have the receipt from Walmart saying the funds have been added to your card. It has the account #, REF # and network #. When I got home, I called to verify that the funds had been added to the card. They had not. I returned to Walmart. The manager called Green Dot and stayed on hold for over an hour.

Green Dot did nothing but give us a run-around saying it's probably due to the large amount of tax refunds and then that they had problems with several transactions today. They told me to keep checking my balance. I have checked all day, no money there, and now it's after their business hours. So, I checked the account online, still no money there. They wouldn't give me any specific time frame for when my money would if ever be there.

Now, my $60 was handed over to someone who has so much they can't keep track of it, and my student loan payment will be in default again tomorrow (just got everything set up for payments). So, I want to know where my money went, but no one can tell me. I just want to cry about now. I work hard, and am trying my best, but just seems companies like this are just out there to take from us poor, working people.

Needed to purchase something on eBay. Got a debit card from them. Got it at one of those Dollar Stores. I paid a $1 to load the card to get it going. I registered it online when I got home. A couple weeks later I got a card I didn't think I was getting. I was looking at paperwork I got with the card in the mail because I was thinking of using it for something else. This is when I seen the $5.95 monthly fee that's not listed on the website. I just looked and it doesn't say anything about the monthly fee. With Direct Deposit they waive the fee or if you do so many transactions. They don't easily spell out the limitations the card has. They just tease you to get the card. You can only get so much out a day. I think it's $400. What if you spend $250 on groceries and gas and your car breaks down and the tow truck driver doesn't take plastic. None of them do. What do you do?

I don't really care for the customer service. I think they are all out of the US. I called the number up I got on the website and it was hard to understand the person and when I complained about how the card works he laughed. So my refund was issued around 12:00 pm pst Today Jan. 29. However I was told that it will take 3 to 5 day to get my money back. What? Why? I feel they are holding my money until the weekend when they can steal $5.95 from my account. Why does it take so long to transfer my money from PayPal to my debit card.

A bank got busted for doing something like this. You would deposit your pay check and write checks to pay your bills filling out your check register. They would take the checks out of order so they could charge a bunch of fees. They would wait to post your pay check. I feel this is why they say it will take 3 to 5 days to get a refund on your card. Come on it's coming from PayPal. I can't wait to cancel this card. I also don't trust their security. You can't register this card under IE 11. I used Chrome to register but the website sometimes doesn't work right. It gives you odd errors.

I was trying to activate my Wal-Mart Money Card that I was keeping for standby. I was having difficulties with another Green Dot prepaid card, so I figured I would activate the WM one and try to transfer. Lo and behold, both are Green Dot and they are cancelled, and I am no longer allowed to have a Green Dot card. When asked why, both reps simply said because of unusual activity. When I asked what that meant as the WM card was never activated, and the GD card I only just purchased and put money on, they said "Green Dot reserves the right to not disclose certain information." So GD reserves the right to not tell me what I have supposedly done? So, if I suspected fraud because of this, who would I talk to or what would I say since I have zero information?

I have always been against this company and only agreed to it because my friend sent me money via a stupid MoneyPak. I never wanted to be involved with them and never want to again. But now I'm angry that they have my information on file (wonder what they will do with that) and won't tell me jack about why I can't use my cards. Super great company... oh wait, sarcasm is not clear via the written word. Worthless, the whole shebang. With all the complaints, I hope they go down soon.

The main reason I got the card was because my money kept getting stolen as I was staying with roommates. Also, so people could not accuse me of stealing when I was collecting donations for a shelter when I went in a store to buy something. I got the card and called before I put money on it. They told me I had to put money on it first before activating it. This is aside from the $4 and some change to get it. So, fool that I am, I put over $400 on it. Then I called back and they told me I had it on the card and they will activate it. I was transferred to someone else who told me my info was not verified so the card would not be activated.

I asked for a supervisor. They put me on to someone else, a female. She re checked and told me that the info verified but the card still could not be used. She advised me to get another card and she would be able to transfer the money from that unusable card to the new one since the problem with verification was solved. I did that put about $30 on the next card and called back. I asked for the supervisor by name. I was given to another supervisor who told me my info could not be confirmed. At the end of the day, I never got the check they promised they would send with all the money I put on the card. I lost almost $500.

The form they had asked for my SSN. I provided it, but the Paypal is a business acct and has an EIN instead of the SSN. When the SSN didn't work, I tried the EIN and it still did not allow me to load my account. At this point, I contacted Paypal and added my SSN to that account, went back to Greendot's site to try again, and the amount has been refunded in a check that I will not receive for another 7 to 10 days.

I spoke to 10 people in their company who were unable to assist me with giving me access to my funds, but I know that they can because I sent money to another person via Greendot before and they scratched the numbers off their card, and was provided with a new card number. These people suck for not having something in place to assist their customers better.

I'm on a fixed income and could use that money now. Customer Service at Green Dot wouldn't hear of this. They refused to help me in any way. Apparently they have some kind of system security breach that when cards are ordered more than once, it automatically voids the cards and blocks you from EVER getting a card from Greed Dot EVER again! What kind of system is that?

Technology sometimes has flaws but to block you from ever receiving a card ever again is a little insane. Apparently it cannot be fixed and reversed. As if you were doing something illegal? My purchase at our local country club was $38.45. I paid with the Visa prepaid gift card. The balance on my receipt showed $3.86 which is incorrect since my card amount was $50.00. I paid the tip in cash. After a phone call to Green dot I found out that they are "required" by Visa to withhold an additional 20% of the purchase to cover a possible tip. When I read the cardholder agreement provided with the card it clearly stated that the restaurant needed to preauthorize this withholding.

I called the country club and they indicated they never preauthorize a tip. Green dot personnel advised that this is "automatically" withheld by Visa and Green dot and they release it when the posting from the restaurant comes in. This procedure does not follow the contractual wording of their own card holder agreement. Since they do this with all restaurant purchases the money Visa makes on the "float" of my money and others until the posting releases it will be substantial. It is unfair.

My card was taken after having it for over 5 years and being a VIP. I was in line for groceries and it was declined and when I called they told me it was closed because I used it too much. This company needs to be shut down ASAP!

I received a Mastercard gift card for Christmas. I tried to use it and I was not a loosed to. I then called the number provided to activate card and was unable to do so. I talked to 3 different people, 3 different calls and got yelled at and hung up on by all of them... They would not activate this card without me giving them MY credit card information. I refused and they yelled at me and hung up! I then tried to activate it online and it would not take the last three numbers on the card so I could continue... I tried 3 times!!! This is ridiculous. The person that bought this card paid $28.00 for a $25.00 card and then in order to activate it, you have to pay them and give them one of your credit card numbers and your Social Security number! Something is seriously wrong with this picture and it needs to be STOPPED!

Do not use Walmartmoneycard.com/Green Dot. After signing up online for their prepaid debit card, I was given a temporary visa number. I tried using that number, but I was blocked. Live customer service does not exist via the phone number at walmartmoneycard.com. However, I was informed by a recorded message stating I was banned from ever using Green Dot again. The recording also stated that my available balance was ready to use. Several days later, I received my debit card by mail. Thinking there must be some type of mistake, I bought a MoneyPak and tried to reload money on my new debit card. An error popped up along with a number I could call.

I called it and was told the same story. When I asked why, I was told they could not answer that question. Irritated, I asked to speak to a manager. He replied I am the manager. Later in our heated conversation he stated a manager would call me back in two business days. After that, I hung up. Since Walmart is associated with my Green Dot debit card, I will never shop there again. All purchases from Walmart this past Christmas will be returned. Green Dot is not worth the frustration. No one should have to worry about their account being blocked without a reason. No one should be banned from doing business without reason. Again, avoid Green Dot.

I've had my VIP Green Dot Card for years. For the last five years, I've had my pay check direct deposited onto my card with no problem at all. Then yesterday, the day I was paid, I paid a few bills and went to the store to pick up a few things, bought lunch and the next thing I know, my card is being declined when I went to use it at the store and to pay more bills. Once I called them, I was told the reason the card is locked down on a security hold due to unusual usage. So I tell them what I've used my card on and he/she and a supervisor stated that they couldn't do anything about it that its a security hold and on January 6th, I need to call to request a refund on my account as it was being closed, that I will need to contact my payroll department and make new arrangements to receive my paycheck.

I explained that they need to remove the hold because the money they are holding is for rent, bills, gas and food. She just kept apologizing and repeating that there is nothing they can do and that I needed to call back on January 6th (2014) for the refund. I'm not waiting around. I'm contact the state Attorney General's office, the news media and filing a compliant with the Consumer Affairs. This is fraud and I'm finding an attorney to file a class action lawsuit against Green Dot for holding money that does not belong to them and the cost of late fees.

On Saturday, December 14, 2013 I purchased a MoneyPak card to send a friend in need some money. I had never had experience in this area and randomly picked up the MP card and thought it would be just as viable an option as any other service. I purchased the card for $500.00, received a store receipt and thought I was on the way to sending my friend in need some cash. The MP card has a "lotto" type scratch off on the back to reveal the numbers, which in turn, activate the card. Well as soon as I began scratching to reveal the numbers, half of them came off with the adhesive used to secure this scratch bar. Now is when the problems really arose.

I attempted to contact Walmart, where 10 minutes earlier I had just purchased the card. Their response was, "sorry, we offer no refunds on these cards and you will have to take it up with the representatives at MP." Well that statement in itself is a joke because this is virtually impossible. I was, however, after hours and hours of research able to find an email support contact for MP. That was over a week ago, and my last correspondence with this individual promised a resolution in 4 business days, which of course never happened.

The morale of the story is that the "people" at MP know very well that at least 50% of the people who purchase this product will scratch off the identifying numbers when attempting to remove this "scratch bar" covering the numbers. Once even one of these numbers is gone, so is your card. It at that point becomes invalid and worthless. Meanwhile, the money you just spent went straight into their bank account and the only words I have about this is that it is sad that a company, in this day and age, is able to continue unpunished and unaccountable for such misfortune they purposely create. In closing, all I can say is that Walmart has lost a customer, and I would never buy another MP card if my life depended on it.

In about 2 hours it was gone! So I called Green Dot and filed a "dispute" and they said it would take 5-7 days before they get back to me. I sent by email the same night my receipt and the card that I purchased. So the next day when I called Green Dot back to check on my "dispute" they said that they did not receive the documents that I sent to them the previous night by email. So I once again emailed them the documents AGAIN. So 2 days later day 3, I called Green Dot to check on my "dispute" and once again they stated that they had not received my documents so I emailed them AGAIN!! So the next morning day 4, I called and would you believe that they did not receive my documents. So I spoke with a manager and he put me on hold to search for my documents and he could not find them so he gave me a fax number and I emailed my receipt and the moneypak card. So I waited 3 days because the manager said to give them time because they were backed up with disputes.

So I called day 7 and they said they still did not receive my documents. And to give them time because they had a lot of disputes so day 9 I called and they claimed not to have them. So I spoke with another manager Ann and she said to fax again and day 11 they finally received the documents but I had to file another dispute because that dispute expired after 5 days even though I did everything that I was supposed to do. At this point I am so frustrated and I don't know what else to do and it have been 7 days now and when I try to contact Green Dot all I get is a customer service recording that want a Green Dot Card but no live customer service agent. The money was there but could not transfer. Called MP back and they said the same thing, only this time they told me to get the Green Dot MasterCard or Visa which was another $4.95 and I would for sure be able to take care of my phone payment, eBay and a couple small bills. So that's what I did.

Now I have this G-Dot Mastercard that doesn't work. I tried to use it at McDonald's to get my kids something to eat. Declined, So I went home, checked the balance and all the info. PC said all' s good. Tried to add to my P-P acct, Declined. WTF. So called G-Dot MasterCard consumer hotline. They checked info and money was there and as before nothing is wrong, but they said their system said the 3-digit security code was entered wrong. Was why it was declined, so I gave them the code and it was the correct code. They said I must have entered it wrong. I laughed. They said try and make a transaction. I did, same thing, Declined. They more or less told me, "Oh well." I asked for supervisor, managers and she just kept saying, "That's all we can do. I apologize for your hardships, just try it again. Our systems say everything is correct on their end."

That was 4 days ago and I'm sitting with no money and phone is shut off now and I have an unpaid case open on eBay. My phone is Boost with shrinkage and you pay your bill on time for 6 months and the bill shrinks $5.00 every six months. Needless to say, I didn't get it paid on time and I was on my last payment so that cost me $60.00 a year and my phone is disconnected. I also don't understand why one of the biggest companies doesn't have 24 hour customer service...Oh I know, because they can't help you. All they do is repeat the same things over and over. Blame it on everything but their company. They have my desperately needed money hostage and they think its fine. I checked the BB and they have an excellent rating.

I don't understand with the services they provide they can't help you with anything but taking and holding your money. I don't know what to do. I have no gas, food, Phone over this. I fell ill about 6 weeks ago after never being sick a day in my life (pancreatic cyst...bad ouchy). So I've been in and out of the hospital about 5 times in the last 6 weeks. Finally had surgery last week so I'm in the hospital now for recovery and bouncing back, feeling better, and so ready to get out of here. My family has been helping me financially though all of this, and they were using the Green Dot money packs to get money to me, as most of my family is out of state. All was fine until today when I tried to load a money pack and the system refused to accept it. After a few HOURS of bs trying to figure out what was going on, all I got was a "lift" on my account so I could use the last $13 on the card. The rep (who was a supervisor) basically said... "Spend your $13 and then go away. You are banned FOREVER from Green Dot and any card(s) or account(s) associated with Green Dot.” It wasn't a lot of money either, maybe $2,500 in 6 weeks or so.

So that's it I guess. After 6 years with the same card (memorized and all), and set up to pay ALL of my utilities. I guess Green Dot doesn't allow you to get sick and have financial emergencies. Go figure. So off to search for a more reputable company I go. If anyone has any suggestions, or a good solution, I'd be more than happy to listen, as I'm not doing much else right now, haha.

I originally signed on for a Green Dot account to help me & my wife manage money a little better. Basically, if the money is not in the account, then the money cannot be spent, helping us avoid unnecessary debt. It was awesome. They had a Direct Deposit feature that I could have my paychecks deposited into. In Dec 2012, I began my employment overseas on a 2-year contract in Kuwait. I specifically checked the user's agreement regarding foreign transactions, and even to this day, there is still NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING about card usage limitations regarding foreign transactions! I received paycheck after paycheck for the next 10 months, without any delay, and all seemed great. Until today, October 24th, 2013, when I checked my account for no money to be available.

I checked with online customer support and they informed me my account had been security blocked, and my Direct Deposits had been rejected. I called Customer 'NO' Support, and they informed me of the same - due to EXCESSIVE Foreign Transactions. Well, I said, duh, I live in Kuwait. Of course, there are going to be multiple foreign transactions. My main PROBLEM with all of this is that they failed to call my wife (who has the same phone number listed on our account) to inform her or try to leave a message for me, that there is any problem with my foreign transactions before just closing my account. Furthermore, they stated, since there was a security blockage, I will NEVER (thank goodness) be eligible for another Green Dot account in the future.

So, now I have to wait for the paper check (in my name) to arrive in California and hopefully, my wife can deposit it into my Navy Federal Checking account. (The reason I just didn't have Direct Deposit into that account is their delay to post purchases when you make them. It would often cause me to think I had more in the account than I did, and overdrafts would occur.) I am fine changing my Direct Deposit to them from now on, however. Ugghhhh, this really makes me so upset! FOREIGN USERS, Do NOT use Green Dot. I repeat, Do NOT use Green Dot. And for the future, I am done with ALL Prepaid Cards!

On Wed 10/2, still NO CARD so I did what rep advised me, report card not received. Rep verified address again and said he would send out a new card free of charge and I should have card in 7-10 business days. On Tues 10/15, I contacted Green Dot via online to report card not received link option, entered info and computer response stated it has not been 2 weeks since new card was ordered and to wait until allotted time has passed (which at this point it has been 9 business days).

Today, Tues 10/22, online message stated, "Your personalized replacement card was mailed to you and you should have received it. It is important you activate your personalized card to continue enjoying the many benefits your card offers." I tried to report card not received via online. The screen asked me to verify the mailing address. Only option button was to either cancel or update. The address was correct so I hit the update button, then on the next screen message stated a new card would be mailed out and it will take 7-10 business days to receive new card. Ok, at this point, I didn't want to deal with them anymore because I kept getting BS & it seems my issue will never be resolved. So I chose to close the card option online.

Green Dot put me in the negative because a hotel that I recently went to did not return me my money back fast enough for Green Dot. I talked to a representative and they confirmed with me that Green Dot took my money because of the hotel not returning me my money back fast enough for them. Green Dot did not ask me for permission to do this, they just did it and this is not the first time I've had trouble with Green Dot.

I have been using Green Dot for 7 or 8 years and have direct deposit set up for which my husband send money. I checked my balance 10-1-13 and the message stated my direct deposit was sent back to sender which is my spouse who is deployed to Kuwait. That is my rent money so I have been unable to pay my rent cause the money has yet to be sent back to my spouse. I had to get in touch with him to stop allotment which I have had set up for 7 years going to the same Green Dot account. When I asked customer service what happen they stated I was using the card wrong or and buying multiple reload cards. I stated that's what I have the card for to load money and pay bills or shop online and I have been using the same way for years.

Then he said you're using it right but I'm using it wrong. He kept contradicting himself and couldn't give me a straight answer and when I said how come I wasn't notified before you closed my account with a warning and he said that is my warning by closing my account. He wasn't making any sense and was very rude. I have been a faithful customer for years and I was treated like garbage and was told I had to find another source for debit and that I could never have an account with them again. This has put me in a bad way and I am being charged late fees everyday I am late on my rent. This isn't how you do business. I did nothing wrong. I filed a complaint with the BBB and I recommend everyone having the same problems do the same.

I have been using Green Dot for over five years off and on. I don't do direct deposit. I just add funds every week to pay bills. I bought a MoneyPak from Walmart this morning, called to reload my card. And was told I was banned from using my card for excessive usage. The CSR could not explain what excessive usage is nor would he allow me to speak with a manager. My usage has been the same for 5 years, I pay the same bills every week. I add my money every week so if I have not changed, then what has changed? GREEN DOT has. I immediately went online and they have received horrible complaints for the past two months. Now I'm stuck with a MoneyPak that has money on it that I need today, not in a few weeks in the form of a check. This is poor customer service at best. They could have unblocked my card and allow me to spend my money and instead hold my money hostage.

My biggest complaint is the sudden lifetime ban I have incited merely as a result of doing what Green Dot said it wanted me to do: use the card to avoid the monthly service fee. The lifetime ban started when I tried to pay a $34 hotel incidentals charge. When I called later that day, I received an automated message that required me to acknowledge that I am banned from Green Dot for life in order to get access to the funds remaining on my card. The only explanation posted was that I had an"unusual pattern" of spending.

For background on this unusual pattern, my credit score is above 725, and I have over $50k in available credit on my credit cards... which I use to the tune of over $20k per month and usually pay in full every month. My spending on the Green Dot card was limited to non-business discretionary charges about $2k-$3k per month. My idea was to use the cash cards rather than credit to help psychologically to limit these charges (since I would have to load cash to use).

The only explanation I can come up with is that by using the card every month, I avoided the monthly fee... so they banned me. Bad business when the advertising encourages you to use the card to avoid fees but when you do, they ban you for life!!??

Aside from the ban issues, there were other annoying problems... I was never able to reload at Walmart without buying the money packs... I had originally planned to reload at Walmart because their reload fee of $3 for up to $1000 was the cheapest I could find. But it never worked deal despite 3 tries at different stores. So I was forced to buy money packs at $4.95 per $500.

Another problem is in the charge dispute process. Disputes must be submitted in writing no later than 60 days after the fraudulent or mistaken charge. This is one of the most consumer unfriendly dispute processes I have ever seen and it cost me $70 when a vendor double charged me. In any event, being named for nothing more than using the card is an affront. Green Dot had better hope they do not cross my path in business because I have a very long memory.

I have had my Green Dot card for years with no problem. I recently went to make an online purchase and it was declined even though I have funds on the card. I went onto the website and chatted with a customer service representative, who said that there was a block on the card and I needed to call the customer service number.

I called, I've called several times. I've even contacted them through Facebook. About the only thing I've been told is that the compliance department noticed unusual activity on my account and closed the card. I can spend down what's there (kudos to them for letting me use my own money) but I can neither add funds to the card, nor can I open another card. The closest thing I've received to an explanation is that I used the card to make purchases on Facebook, so they think I'm using the card for business purposes (???) and it can't be used for that. I explained that I was playing games and that's what the purchases were for.

I was told that someone would call me to explain why the card was cancelled, but I have yet to receive a call. Meanwhile, the person that I spoke with today when I called customer service yet again said that they couldn't tell me why it was cancelled, or what the unusual activity was, which makes absolutely no sense. I pay (paid) my bills with this card, and had my paychecks direct deposited onto it. Now, after years with no explanation they just cancel the account with no notice whatsoever. Do yourself a favor and do business with a company that will at least tell you why they're doing what they're doing with your hard earned money.

Please be warned consumers! This very WELL advertised card hanging at the Rite Aid called out to me with the RED wording $0 fees! I bought it for my brother who is disabled and assumed it worked like all other gifted prepaid debit cards I have given him - call it in to activate, reset your password and use it and discard. Easy for a disabled person to manage. Well this business is a scam. I had to register it online and when I tried to I got stopped saying the information I provided (date of birth/name) did not match the account info. Wait a minute... I never gave the Rite Aid cashier any personal info!

Then when I called they asked me for social security, valid address, and date of birth info. The person on the other end of the phone barely spoke English, so I imagine the call is really being forwarded to another country. I told them it was too complicated as a prepaid card should not involved ANY personal information about me or my brother. They then started to process my refund, and would not give me ANY confirmation number nor any last name. I have to WAIT for the refund they said and keep the card just in case. THIS IS NOT GOOD business. The owner of Green Dot is on Google, not sure I have contact info, but starting the trail to document this.

UNACCEPTABLE that RITE AID is not checking out what these shady businesses are pulling on consumers! IS THERE no checks and balances anymore? Thank goodness I only put $55 on it! AND NOW I'M GETTING CALLS from 270-775-1324 saying I applied for a payday loan! My phone number now has been given to who knows who. When I said I didn't ever apply for a loan, they hung up on me. I know for a fact now that my number is being given out. BLOCKING the number, and they keep calling. What idiots. Like I'm going to change my answer?!! Be warned.

Customer Service Repeats Their Own Lies Over and Over... Why even bother answering me if you do not read the complaint? Because you must not have read the complaint to answer the way you did. I know what a "pre-authorization" charge is that you are calling a pending authorization. The problem is, it is no longer pending on the hotel's end. The ACTUAL charge from the hotel for $100.00 posted September 25th, 2 days after my stay. So they don't understand how you could still have a pre-authorization charge on there since the ACTUAL charge has posted. On your OWN website, it states that "These authorized funds will be held and unavailable for you to spend until the final transaction is posted to your statement."

Well....the transaction has posted... Where is my money????? I love how I have been given these four options as to when my money will be available for this charge and the other $168.48 pre-authorization charge from last Wednesday night, Sept. 25th: 1) 11 days, 2) 10 days, 3) 8 days and now 4) 10 business days plus 3-5 business days of processing once they receive the "refund" from the merchant. It's multiple choice! Fun! Oh and by the way, a pre-authorization charge isn't a REFUND. It's a pre-authorization charge that should be removed once the actual charge from the vendor has posted. Thanks so much for wasting some more of my time with your BS answer.

I got this card in order to pay for a hotel room that I had to have since I could afford that and not my water bill that was cut off. Biggest mistake ever. I understand that hotels and many other merchants have to "pre-authorize" charges and that typically once the payment has been accepted by the merchant, the "pre-authorization charge" for the same amount (or sometimes more) disappears from your account. So initially, it looks like you are being charged twice when one will go away once payment is accepted. I have seen this take up to 2 MAYBE 3 days with a regular bank.

When I paid for my hotel room on September 23rd and was assured by Embassy Suites that the payment had posted on their end and they had removed the pre-authorization on the 24th, by Friday, September 27th, I wouldn't expect Green Dot to still be holding my money. I called three different times to ask why they were still holding my money and the first customer service rep from India told me it would be held for ELEVEN DAYS before it was released. The second representative kept telling me that I should call this merchant who is charging my card without my authorization and demand to know why. They said that Green Dot was not holding these funds at all but Embassy Suites must be stealing from me. The third customer service rep I talked to said it would be held for EIGHT DAYS. Then laughed at me because I now cannot pay my electric bill.

I took some clothes back to a store I purchased on Monday night and have seen zero credit for that show up in my account now Saturday, September 28th. It seems as if the reps know one to two sentences in English and the only thing they do no matter how many different questions you ask are repeat the 1-2 sentences they know. I have a bad feeling that I am not ever going to see this money again. This is unbelievable to me that these are sold so many places and that this isn't a well known fact what a horrible company this is. Essentially, you are paying someone to take your money and then give you no access to it at all. Sounds like stealing to me.

Sept. 16, we called Green Dot to cancel a purchase we made (9/02/13 )from an on-line vendor. Statement on pre-payment memo was to allow 7 to 10 days to receive copies of services. Vendor did not deliver service or gave us any way to contact them. First response from Green Dot's dispute dept. after we filled out required paperwork (9/17/13) was to cancel card used in transaction and then on 9/19/13, we were told Dispute is in our favor and new card is in mail with all funds on new Green Dot Visa. Process would take 7 to 10 days. We received card on 9/25/13 with negative balance on it (new card service fee). When we called senior supervisor who stated that our dispute was canceled, the above mention quote is all the response he would give (over and over again): "Once you give your card (Green Dot Visa) numbers (main 16 digit) to them (company, vendor) Green Dot is not responsible for any type of refund."

I received a Green Dot card about a year and a half ago or so. I chose to put it into my drawer and to hold for a rainy day. At that time, I was not sure how much money was on the card and had not registered it. Yesterday I registered it so that I could get a little money to buy some food. After registering it, the balance came up negative due to monthly clip charges (not due to any activity other than that). So I sent an irate email to customer support and stated that I wanted my name off the the card. Frankly I was angry because not only did I lose the balance but may be held liable for the negative balance now that I registered it. This is not a very good gift, is it?

Anyhow, the response totally ignored my words. Customer support shot me a canned apology and said that I could go the website and close out the account. I wrote them back again, and got the same answer. There was no discussion on waiving the clip fees, no discussion on why this situation occurred nor did they give me any hint as to where on the website I could find a link to close out the card. Frankly, this type of poor customer care is a reflection of the attitudes of the executive staff. I learned that lesson long ago... that customer service people often mimic their bosses' attitudes. With that said, I will NEVER use any Green Dot product.

To bottom line this and not go into a tirade, I will just list a few words and hope they weigh in: inconsistent, inconsiderate, unaccountable, buck passing, LYING, misleading and conflicting information. This is what I've dealt with ALL day today as it pertains to GreenDot's return funds policy. See I ATTEMPTED to make transactions on a very secure website. For some reason they declined the transaction(s) due to address discrepancies. I checked to see that the info was correct and was "assured" everything was on the up and up. I wait 48 hours, attempt the purchase again and AGAIN declined. I call back to check the address and was told that it was incorrect (Really? after having just "updated" 48 hours prior??). So I asked for a supervisor who in turn told me the address I had stated to her was indeed CORRECT.

That's just the beginning of the bs. I've been argued with, talked over, LIED TO, given misleading info. I was even asked to get an electronic reversal (Really? Of funds that they never accepted? They're just gonna turn them over, right?? Wow...) and was told a fax number to use for my merchant to send info and to no avail because guess what? GREENDOT has no way of reversing or communicating back to said merchant. If I have my way, there will be a BIG to do about the practices of GreenDot (who apparently are largely based in the Philippines but refer people to headquarters in Cali...)

I never buy anything online but I needed a crate for my new puppy and no time to go into stores to shop around. I ordered the crate thru Amazon September 8th; however, on September 9th, I received an email from Amazon and another one from the seller saying that my order was cancelled due to product being out of stock. It also said that I will receive my refund within 2 to 3 business days. I noticed days were going by and it still showed a "pending" transaction but I didn't rush it because I understand where it could take a little longer. Today is September 17th and it's still showing pending so I called "Amazon" and was told that the order was cancelled on their end and I needed to call "Green Dot" so the funds are released. They were also nice enough to provide me with a "Settlement Verification code" and a "Payment reference ID" so I can give it to Green Dot and they can take it from there.

First, I call and I speak with a gentleman who clearly did not understand what I was talking about so left me on hold for over 5 minutes - no music, no advertisements nor commercials, just hold with silence and didn't even check back with me to provide me with an update on what he was doing. At this point, I am frustrated so I call again and speak with a lady. I go over the whole story with her AGAIN and she says that my refund is "scheduled" for October 9th. I asked why, If it's cancelled and all of us are well aware that the order was cancelled and the reason why it was cancelled, then why is my money still being held and why does it need to be scheduled? She wasn't able to respond and I kept demanding a supervisor to which she kept trying to apologize and tell me that she wants to "save" me frustration.

    1. Green Dot is dealing with MY money, regardless of the amount.
    2. When I bought the crate, it didn't take Green Dot 1 month to process my payment, so why would it take you 1 month to refund my money?
    3. Customer Service needs to be handled by reps. who are in the United States of America. I have nothing against outsourcing, but the reps who work for Green Dot LACK phone etiquette and quite frankly, especially dealing with customer's $$$, they need more training and customer service skills.

    4. If I ask for a supervisor, I should be given one after I asked 3 times and made it clear that I'm furious and want to handle this the right way.

After getting loud and making clear to the rep that this was NOT personal and to please connect me with a sup., she tells me I have to wait on a callback because all of them are in a meeting. Find it quite strange that there is no one working in the leadership team who could've assisted me on the spot but I went ahead and agreed on a callback. 30 minutes later, I get a call from someone called "Chrissy" who said that she could not release my funds until the scheduled date and will not give me a reason for this. She continued to repeat herself which pretty much infuriated me more so I requested to speak with someone else because all I want is either my money back or a reason and I'm entitled to it. She is going to tell me that she is the highest I can go and I told her that this was absurd. It was a lie and I hung up the phone.

I need a resolution for this ASAP. I shouldn't have to wait 1 month for my money to be released on my card. As I said, I can provide the "Settlement Verification code" and a "Payment reference ID" that Amazon provided me with. Amazon made it clear that this is a cancellation code in their system and I need to provide it to Green Dot so it can show the same on both systems and we can proceed. Scheduling my refund is out the question so I need immediate resolution... Thanks.

She said since my account was less than 30 days that their policy was to close my account and send my refund by paper check, which by the way won't be mailed out till Monday the 5th and takes 9 to 12 days to get back.

It only took 5 seconds to load but two weeks to get back. I'm not a rich person, I have a limited income. This is not right. The man I spoke with to dispute the claim never mentioned that this would happen, but the good news they retrieved my 24 dollars and some change. It cost me a world of aggravation when all they had to do was load my money onto my permanent card which has totally different numbers on it. Their policy makes no sense. I bet they took their fees though. I thought that's what their dispute center was for - to protect their clientele not throw them to the weigh side.

I shop at Wal-Mart at least 3 to 5 times a week, but Kroger and my local stores will get my business from here on out I don't want to be associated with a company that don't care about its patrons. I just wonder how many more people they have done this way. Just called temporary card wouldn't give me balance said refund check requested August 2nd to allow 10 business days to receive if not call back. I am so mad right now.

These people are thieves. I tried paying my electric bill using the gift card. Green Dot charged my card $4.95 three times (the charge just pay it charges to pay my bill for Tampa Electric). My bill was never paid because this card was declined. Yet this company refuses to release my $14.85. I called Tampa Electric and they reversed the charges on their end, and told me it would be back on my card within 24-48 hrs. That was on July 24th. It is now July 31st and they still have not release my money. I called and they kept telling me there is no way they can release it. I asked for a manager and was told she was the manager and there is no one above her. (Really? When your answer calls in the service center??) Someone had to hire her! Bottom line: I have to wait several more days before they will release my money! I do not recommend this card to anyone--ever!!! They are a horrible company who will not work with you.

I bought a MoneyPak on 7/19 to load my prepaid travel card (STA travel MC) for an upcoming trip ($300). Having done this once before, I attempted to load the money onto the card via the web; however, I got a repeated error message telling me to call the number on the back of the card. Problem is, if the number on the card isn't working, you DO NOT GET TO SPEAK WITH A LIVE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. After getting hung up on 6 times, I scoured the net for a functioning number and found one on a PayPal complaint site (it's 866-871-2415, by the way). I got someone at MoneyPak on the line and called the MasterCard with my other phone. Both blamed the other's tech dept..."Communication problems" and there was nothing either of them could do for me.

With most of my cash for this pay period tied up on this card, I was angry. I noticed on the website that they give refunds in 7-10 days; however, I noticed a lot of people were complaining they never got theirs. Yesterday, I decided to reopen an old PayPal account and got my money off the card immediately. SCARY NOTE: They would not release the money to PayPal without me giving up my social security number. I felt like I was choosing the lesser of 2 evils: Wait for money for 2 weeks...or get it in one week by surrendering my social. My cash will hopefully be back in my account by 7/25 (PayPal takes several days). I can't believe I paid $3.95 to be without my cash for 7 days.

I contacted the Green Dot people and they told me they can't give out any information on MY account without a police or report. Crazy, right! So I gave them the police report number which I could have made up because once I told them I have a case number, they gave me information. They told me the money was withdrawn from two different accounts but they weren't able to tell me much. I look at it as if "It's my card; I have the right to know about any transaction that takes place." They told me they were going to help the police with my report and investigation... but they did not give any information!!!

I could be wrong but as of now, I think they have something to do with scammers. They might get a cut or they are made just for scams and underground transactions (someone needs to do something about this). Sorry for grammar issues! These people are posing as Advance America and Ace.... Run away if someone calls you out the blue and tell you that you've been approved for an unbelievable loan. It's a scam... I'm 21 and just been scammed for the first time... Don't become a victim... Not only you lose money, you feel stupid at the end and you are in a deeper hole than where you started... Ask questions before doing anything!!!!!!! Don't be like me writing reviews!!!!! If you can help it, buy items that are traceable... They can't or won't trace any stolen or lost money on a Green Dot MoneyPak... I just wish they would have warned me before I bought it... That small print is invisible when you are in a hurry... Plus no refunds! I hope this helps out someone!!!

They wasn't very helpful nor knowledgeable! So I waited a few days when I viewed and printed out my account transaction history/balance. My transactions was altered some kind of way because my balance reflected totally different amounts on what I printed out prior too.

My first thought to go back to previous months to see if this was a pattern. Then I noticed In May, my account balance was in negative from May 29th-June 17th. "RED FLAG" How can a prepaid card go into negative when you reload what you use? "SCAM" So on June 21st when a percentage of my payroll check was direct deposited in my account, Green Dot deducted the so called negative balance from my account! I contacted Green Dot support on many times that day but begin to get the run around again! After several calls and hours of wait time with the GREEN DOT! Nobody couldn't admit to being nor could explain! So I filled a dispute on the transactions on July 12th 2013 at 12:27pm!

I waited until yesterday July 16, 2013 to view my account and history from May 29th 2013 til July 16 2013, GUESS WHAT. My entire transaction history has been altered from the time I notice the so called negative! The problem hasn't been fixed because my balance still reflecting a lower balance from what my records show that I printed out before they altered my account! I'M FURIOUS BUT JUSTICE WILL BE DONE! All was smooth sailing until one day out of nowhere they decided they needed to verify my info, which would have been fine but they wanted to know stuff from like 20 years ago. So of course I couldn't remember everything so they denied my transactions. Couple of days later, contacted them again to try to verify another payment that I tried to make and they told me all I had to do was email them a copy of my DL. Now after reading the reviews and hearing about thefts I am truly concerned because now they have my Social Security # and a copy of my Driver's License! However they did allow me to continue to add funds to the card. The fees however are out of hand.

There is a fee for EVERYTHING!! Now this is hard to explain, but while they had my transactions on hold to verify who I was, I had two transactions pending, one for $30 and one for $50. Now they told me on the phone that they could not clear the $50 transaction, so when I called a couple days later and emailed them the copy of my DL they cleared the $30 transaction. Go back and look at my bank account and they had cleared both transactions except for the fact that the $50 transaction was not on my GD card. That is real shady and still trying to get answers to where $50 went! I would definitely NOT RECOMMEND this card, stick with who you know! I have more complaints as well but these ones were the big ones!

After putting the request through, the machine said processing for about a minute and then went back to the beginning for the next transaction to go through without dispensing the money. I tried it again, with the same results. Both times, I got no receipt. I was in a Kmart branch that told me there was no money in the ATM.

The money is not in cyberspace, yet no one wanted to help me; therefore, I cannot get the money. Everyone passed the buck to someone else. In the end, the only one who loses is me. I have had my Green Dot card for about 4 years now with no problems. Had direct deposit to my card on time each pay period. On July 3 I stopped at the ATM to make a withdrawal and it wouldn't let me withdraw anything. Well at that time I really didn't think too much of it, just thinking the network was down. Then went to purchase a few items at the grocery store and my card was declined. So that is when I called and then was told that my card was reported lost/stolen. But I never called and said my card was lost/stolen.

After speaking to a representative that I could not hardly understand, I was told that my card had been closed and that they were sending a new card because on June 26 I did call and questioned a $6.76 charge to my card. All this happened the day before a holiday and I had no access to my funds on the card. They just blocked all access to my money without telling me and then they charged me to send me another card, which will take 7 to 10 business days. So after staying on the phone with 3 different representatives and threatening to find an attorney for over an hour, I was told I could go purchase another Green Dot card and have my funds transferred, but with no access to withdraw any cash.

This really has been truly frustrating because all the money I have is on this card because I just had a direct deposit 2 days before this and they closed my account without contacting me. I will be closing this account as soon as I can get all my money from the card and will not use Green Dot again.

I looked up "complaints about Green Dot Cards" today to confirm my suspicions, and boy did I find a lot of confirmations. I, too, have been with Green Dot for about 6 years. I never had any problems until yesterday. I go to pickup my U-Haul to move some items from storage and my card was denied! The guy ran my card a couple of times, and it was still denied. I looked up my account on my phone and the money was there. I went to the ATM and could not withdraw. I was so pissed! I could not get anyone on the phone either. So I figured maybe they were having system problems. Later on last night, I called again and got someone on the line. She told me my card was on HOLD and that she was taking the hold off, BUT...when I use the money that is on the card, do not buy any more reload cards, they are CLOSING it, and I could NOT apply for another card! I'm in total shock!

When asked why, she went on to say that the Compliance Department is closing my account because of suspicious activity! “What suspicious activity?” I asked. “You used too many Reload Cards in one month!” What the hell is she talking about? I used this card for my daughter's wedding a couple of years ago, and you know money was being spent. I had no problems whatsoever. I used it for vacation, loaded a couple of thousands on it...and had no problems. I used three reload cards this month, and they’re closing my account! I talked to the supervisor, and she told me she did NOT have to reveal why the Compliance Department is closing my account! Plus, she gave me two different names when I asked for her name! Yeah right!

So here's my theory...Green Dot is going down. They are closing, and they are putting the blame on the loyal, long time customers instead of fessing up to the truth! I have done nothing wrong, and I told the supervisor that they are treating me like some criminal! So this is what businesses have resorted to...Blame the consumer, they'll take anything! We are not Mickie!!! Some advice to those still hanging on...get your money and run!

When I spoke with someone who I could barely understand, they informed me that My retirement check was blocked from being deposited into my account, so I could not get it.

My granddaughter set up a Green Dot account in her name in May so her mother could send money for her support. $280 was put on that card. When we checked the balance, someone had used her card number to pay a phone company of $96 online. We did not use that card, nor did we know anything about that charge. The Card was put away in a safe place and never used. We called and complained. They blocked the card and charged us for a new card, which we could never activate because they had blocked that card too. They put the $96 back into our account after our complaints and threats of lawsuits and them claiming to investigate, and told us we could not use their service, and they would send us a check back for $270 after taking their fees out.

It has been almost two months and we have not received the check. We called them again today, 06/16, and were told the reason the check had not been sent is because we did not verify the mailing address, which is a lie. We are still waiting for our money.

No joke. This is the explanation I got when I found out that my card was blocked - that THEY are not comfortable with how I use MY card. This just happened and I am furious. After being a loyal customer of Green Dot for 6-7 years, before people even knew what Green Dot was, my account was blocked and I am banned from ever having another Green Dot card. I use(d) my card to pay my bills online, to make purchases online, and it is also for emergencies because my husband works out of state Monday - Friday. And if I need more money while he's away, he simply go somewhere that carries Green Dot cards, get a MoneyPak and load the money on it and then text me the MoneyPak number so that I could load the card online.

Now, for some reason, after all of these years and I quote, "WE are not comfortable with the way you are using YOUR card." Now I have a useless MoneyPak and a useless Green Dot MasterCard with MY money on it, being held for 7-10 business days. Do NOT do business with these people. I am calling all of my friends that I've recommended Green Dot to over the years and telling them the same. I hate banks, but it looks like I have no other choice now but to open a bank account to be able to pay my online bills, etc. If it were possible to give zero stars, I would because I am beyond angry. I feel like I was just treated like some kind of thug involved in criminal activities or something. Reporting these cons to the Better Business Bureau next. That is how I came across this site. I had $100 placed on a MoneyPak at a local 7-Eleven. When I got home to add the funds onto a prepaid American Express, I was told the MoneyPak was "invalid" and later, I saw online that my balance was at $0. I immediately went back to the 7-Eleven and there I was told there was nothing they could do. So I called GreenDot customer service where it is extremely hard to talk to an actual person; everything is automated, but when you finally do speak to a real person, you can barely understand their English.

So after talking to a person, they told me to fax over a copy of my receipt and a front and back copy of the MoneyPak - which I did. Afterwards I called to make sure they received the fax, to which they said they did. At this point, I was told that there needed to be an "investigation" and after that I would receive my $100 in 2 business days.

This "investigation" annoyed me, because the card had not been used. I literally went from the 7-Eleven straight home. And the account number on the back of the MoneyPak matches the last 4-digits of the account number on the receipt. Why do I have to wait for an "investigation" to show that the funds were never loaded onto the card?!

So 2 business days passed and I didn't hear from them, so I called. When I got to speak to someone, they had no record of anything. The reference number I had been given was "invalid" and they said they don't have my fax. So I faxed everything over again and I repeated the same steps from last time, but this time I called corporate (866-652-4611). Corporate was a little more professional and a lot easier to understand, but long story short - I still haven't got my money back.

I'm beginning to think I never will and that I just threw away $100. All I can be thankful of is that this did not happen during any of those times when I had loaded $500 on a MoneyPak but I will never use any of GreenDot's services ever again. I can't afford to play Russian roulette with my money and their customer service is awful. I can't believe this company is still in business with all these complaints.

After all the information was given to the Green dot dispute department, I was informed on the last day they had to reimburse me that they decline to pay the money back to me.

I was in jail the entire time my card was being emptied. My so-called friend took my Greendot Visa payroll debit card, emptied it, and they refuse to help me. I have spoken to 7 different people there. I could not understand most of them. The last person I spoke to was supposed to be a manager who told me the bad news. I asked her 3 times for her name but couldn't understand her. I couldn't believe they have a person who cannot be understood by the public have the final decision on a money matter. How can you not reimburse me when I was incarcerated the entire time I was being robbed? Greendot Visa and the company sucks. After screaming at the top of my lungs, they are having someone call me back in 2 business days. I won't hold my breath. Everything they said they would be doing, they never did. They just want the fees but don't help when you need them... They Suck!!!

My son, in military service, purchased a Green Dot Visa Card for my wife and I at Christmas 2012 as a gift so we could have it for a trip. He spent in excess of $100. When I tried to activate the card online in January 2013, it was not "recognized" and failed to be activated. When I called on the phone to activate it, a recorded voice told me the same thing. I called to complain, but all I got on their number was recording after recording, and it went nowhere. A woman finally did call about two months later and left a message to call her back; but when I did, guess what? More recordings. I managed to leave a message to tell her when and where to reach me but never received a call back. Further efforts to clear this up were a complete waste of my time.

In short, I believe this is a scam and needs to be investigated. How many other people lose money on this company? And my son, who spent his hard-earned money on this... money he earned while serving his country in a dangerous place, has wasted his payment. This company is disgusting.

We called 1-800-greendot on April 28, 2013 and they said our balance was zero and that someone had used our card. Absolutely not. They gave us a reference # per customer service worker named JC. I purchased a MoneyPak to reload my card in the amount of $215.00 from Safeway. Every time I tried to input the PIN, it came up stating it was an invalid number. I contacted Green Dot and they requested that I fax the receipt and MoneyPak card. I called back after a couple of days. I was informed they closed the account because they never received any fax. Really? I have proof of transmission. I made them open another claim and I re-faxed them. I called and they told me they received the fax, but it had to be reviewed by a special review department. After two days, I called and was informed they closed the case because they couldn't identify the PIN number. I could barely read it, but the receipt has the last four digits of the barcode's last four digits. They match, so what is the problem? They told me that they would have corporate call me. I still haven't heard from them.

I would rather they just give my money back. They have no intention of honoring my money. This has caused me a big hardship and I am livid with how I was treated or actually not treated.

I bought ten (10) MoneyPaks at $500 each from RiteAid yesterday, Apr 26, 2013. The time stamp on the receipt for the last transaction was 10:35 am Eastern Time. I called them as soon as I got home, which was about half an hour later, to inform them that all 10 cards that I bought had no funds in it upon trying to add money to my PayPal account. I was told that due to the huge amount I bought, they had to put a hold on the funds and would need 24 hrs for them to investigate, or do whatever they have to, for security reasons.

By 11 am today, April 27, funds were still unavailable so I had to call them back. I was informed again that a ticket has been submitted to their processing department (since they cannot do anything on their end, neither do they have the department's phone number - which, I must say, is very absurd!) and would do their best to release the funds within eight (8) hours. If, however, the funds have not been released within the next 8 hours, they (customer support) would have to follow-up with their processing department to ensure that the issue is resolved in one (1) business day.

I bought those MoneyPaks so I can purchase items through PayPal as well as pay utility bills which are already past due. I have been given additional new medication for my condition and have been getting adverse side effects which prevent me from travel. I live right across a RiteAid, by the way. This is more than an inconvenience already. This is even beyond aggravation. I am in a very "frail" condition right now. Hence, this incident has just added to the stress that I am going through and have made my regular headaches lately to a tremendously painful migraine. They must be held responsible for their inconsideration. I am aware that I am not entitled to any compensation for this aggravation. Hence, I have to let proper agencies know of their unbelievable incompetency.

Customer service agent told me there is a problem with the website and I should try back in 4 hours. 6 hours later, I tried to load the MoneyPak onto my card. "Unable to load at this time" - again. I called customer service and of course, my MoneyPak is invalid. The activation at Walgreens' register failed. Now I have to go back to Walgreens, have them fax a copy of the receipt and a copy of the back of the Green Dot MoneyPak so they can finish their investigation and give me my money.

Thank heavens it's only $30. Tomorrow I'll schlep back to Walgreens and if they cannot fax this for me, I must go somewhere and pay to have this information faxed to these people. Can they make things any more difficult? I will get my money off this MoneyPak and will never use Green Dot Visa again!

Green dot is the worst! I get SSI every month for my daughter. I lost my card and requested a new one in which I was told it would take 7-10 business days to receive. That would make the 10th business day April 9th. Well, I did not receive anything. It is now April 11th and I still haven't received the card. They tell me to wait until Friday. My daughter's SSI goes to that card (well, did because I made sure I switched the direct deposit!) and because I knew I wouldn't have the card before my rent was due, I did a Bill Pay option to my sister while she goes ahead and writes a check out for the rent. (We live together and split the rent.)

Well, when I set up the bill pay to my sister, I also set it up to someone else and that person received their payment. The pay date was 4/1/13, and the other person (and my sister), we scheduled to receive their checks by 4/4/13. Well, the other person received his on 4/5/13. I wasn't mad about that, but I am pissed that it is 4/11/2013 and my sister still has not received my check, thus resulting in her check to the apartment complex to bounce, giving us late fees and NSF fees. Had the check made it to her by the 5th, like the other check, there would be no problem.

I told them they need to put a stop payment to the check and put my money back in my account (hoping by now I would have received my replacement card). They said there cannot be a stop payment placed on a check once it has already been withdrawn from the account (which is BS!) So now, here I am, out $638. Late rent (on an apartment we just moved into in March. Way to start off with them huh?), NSF fee (which I don't have the money for either of those!) and still no debit card. I am contacting an attorney and trust me, this company will be sued and put out of business. There are entirely too many claims happening of fraudulent activity for this company to be official. Do not trust these **.

We, my friend and I, have been using the Green Dot prepaid card system to transfer money from MoneyPak cards. We have experienced the same problems all others have had. Sometimes it takes a while to figure out that they will get their money one way or another. When they find out you are using the card to just transfer and withdraw money, they will find an excuse to lose a transaction and keep your money. It seems to work all right if you keep a large balance on the card and/or uses it to buy services or products on or off the web, because then they are making money off you. Several times now there have been problems, where money has been transferred off the MoneyPak cards into the Green Dot accounts but then the account would be frozen, stopped, cancelled for various reasons that don’t make sense. (Keep in mind that although the card/account was cancelled, you could still load money on to the card. You just can’t get to it afterward.)

Calling Customer Service for help was just a waste of time. Service people you could hardly understand, telling you that someone tried to get into your account or because of lack of use they had to cancel the account or for security reasons the account was cancelled; then telling you sorry they cannot help you, there is no way to refund the money, or the inevitable “We are sending you a check for the amount”. Trust me folks - the check never came and will never come. The money is gone! And all the time on the phone they would find excuses to phish personal information from you, that has nothing to do with your account. It took a while (about 6 months) to figure out that it wasn’t us that was the problem or caused the problem. I won’t trust this system again, and I recommend no one else does either.

Also get their name and employee number; they have to give you that info and try to record if you can. I did. I even told them they were being recorded. Vince was a lot more cooperative.

I was also informed that we are not allowed to buy Green Dot cards and give them to people. We are not allowed to accept Green Dot cards from anyone. I was asked why I was withdrawing my money so often; I explained (which I told see why it's any of their business) that my husband works on the road and would sometimes buy a Green Dot card and send it to me to load on my card so that I could pay the bills. Also, I have bought them in the past as gifts, and my nephew needed books for college so I bought a Green Dot card, called him, gave him the number. He put it on the card and bought the books.

I was told that what I was doing (buying cards and withdrawing money) was considered money laundering and my account was closed and my address was blocked from ever receiving another card from them. So, as long as you leave your money on the card, make purchases only, don't withdraw money too often, and don't buy cards for anyone else, then you will be allowed to keep the card. In other words, as long as they are allowed to collect interest on your money, and charge you on top of that and let them have control over your money, you're fine.

My brother is computer literate and needed his Antivirus application renewed but had to do this via internet. He didn't have a CC so I stated to him to get a "GreenDot Prepaid Card". Then we should be able to update it online. At one time, Green Dot was good because I used it back in 2007.

My brother really not knowing what or how to purchase a GreenDot Card had asked a clerk at a CVS in Brookfield, IL. and she gave him a MoneyPak card. He thought the MoneyPak was his GreenDot Card. When arriving at my home at 10:45 am, I noticed that he, my brother, only had bought a MoneyPak card and placed $100 on it along with the $4.95 charge. I explained to my brother that he needed the GreenDot Visa or Master Card itself and will have to add the MoneyPak to his GreenDot Card and then renew his Antivirus App on his PC. Without the GreenDot card, the MoneyPak card is useless unless having a PayPal Acct. or having their one of the 2 GreenDot Cards (Visa or Master Card).

So, my brother drove out into the 11 degrees weather along with traveling 16 miles to my home for me to help him in doing this to Walgreens and purchased a GreenDot Master Card. He arrived back at my apartment approximately 11:10 am as Walgreens wasn't that far. We both thought this would only be a couple minute registrations for his GreenDot Master Card. We started to go through the activation process for my brother's GreenDot Master Card and I have never ever experienced anything like it. I can't believe that after already having my brother's Social Security Number, his D.O.B., place of residence and 3 different security questions that they would have the nerve to ask information about people that did not pertain to his registration at all. He was asked 3 questions and had to answer them within 7 minutes; otherwise, the card could not be activated.

The 1st question asked my brother what was the birth month of our oldest brother's wife who we didn't know, who it was because her name was under her maiden name and if I didn't have her name pop up on my caller ID we wouldn't have ever, ever known who the name was. Just to answer that question, I had to get in touch with my oldest brother who I didn't know his phone number automatically. I had gone into my caller ID and found his phone number and he gave us the answer. We were then able to answer that question. That approximately took 2-3 minutes.

The 2nd question was what town did he receive his last mail at (something in that regards in which one of the towns was from where his son lives in Wis. Ladysmith, WI) We didn't know if this was like a trick question so my brother put down Ladysmith, WI. Because that's where his son lives and has received mail there due to his son being handicapped. The 3rd question asked was how old our 4th oldest brother was and we were thinking GreenDot was phishing for personal information about others that have nothing to do with my one brother applying for it for himself.

We, as in my wife & brother and I, because as witnesses to this and possible identity theft on my brother & phishing for personal information about other people might be happening while trying to activate my 2nd oldest brother's GreenDot card by GreenDot. After we finished filling out the information, we were brought back to another page where other personal information for creating a user account had to be established until the card can be activated. After finishing all of the necessary information & divulging somewhat personal information about how old my 4th oldest brother was, what month my oldest brother's wife birthday was on and where his last mail was sent to.

The account was established and then we started to add the $100 onto my brother's GreenDot Master Card and went through the process and found that it wasn't going through. Its response on the webpage stated that we needed to contact MoneyPak via a certain number. We dialed that number and received a VAS (Voice Activated System) and the recording stated that the MoneyPak card was no good and then asked personal information via computer generated voice, where my brother would want the check returned to and the activated voice gave him his address and he agreed. But there was no reason to why the MoneyPak card was no good. In response, the VAS gave us another phone number which was technical support for his GreenDot card.

We called the GreenDot Customer Service support and we spoke to a woman who stated her name so quickly that we could hardly understand it. We, as in my wife, my brother and I, were listening because I had the intercom on my phone activated. I explained what happened and the woman stated that because my brother did not answer the questions quickly enough, he would not be issued a GreenDot Card because of this. I got very voices-tress on the phone with the woman as I started asking her why they are asking personal information about other people and expecting us to answer such information within 7 minutes. Out of the 3 of those questions, we most likely answered them all right. But because we couldn't do it within the qualified time, he was being refused his card and because the new GreenDot card that he has was only a temp one that resulted in him not being able to place any money on the Temporary Master Card per GreenDot rep. So they asked if my brother would like his money back and he stated yes, but he still was going to have to wait 7-10 business days for him to receive his check.

My concern is that GreenDot is phishing for personal information that do not pertain to the person applying and wanting personal information about others who are their friends or family members. This, to me, is phishing & I feel that it's illegal on the internet to do so along with not allowing an allotted time slot to answer such questions. In retrospect, I feel that we answered the questions within the allotted time & if not, so what? The fact is that these questions were irrelevant to the person applying to activate a Credit Card that already was purchased. I've come across this website and found that there are so many people who have been lied to, misled in information and money that has been basically stolen as in Extortion, that the Senate & Government should be mentioned in this situation.

Individuals already losing their homes or very sick are being preyed upon by GreenDot and I see so many banks stealing from people that I think it's time that this issue of GreenDot be brought into the limelight of the press & TV News. If these situations, so many of them, along with Walmart actually sponsoring this company, something is very, very wrong here. I also feel that GreenDot is keeping the money, applying it to stock with Wal-Mart and making interest off payments not received.

I've read so many people's issues on this Consumer reports site that why this issue hasn't been brought up on the NBC, CBS, FOX News or other news channels such as CNN as they're outsourcing their work to other countries and our personal information along with many others are being given to them. We have enough problems with immigration but knowing that we have so many people illegally using people's personal identities gives me the impression that Walmart is marketing personal information to others and is in cahoots with GreenDot. It's very scary to know that another attack on human soil can be very well executed with the help of Walmart as I feel money is being stolen & people are having their personal ID at stake due to poor management & use of personal information.

In the process I had told my brother to purchase a NetSpend Visa Card. At least NetSpend seems to me, from what I've read about on the so many GreenDot complaints, is structured and I feel that help with the card is better in support along with their website working correctly & they don't go asking personal questions about other people when registering your NetSpend Visa Card. You're even able to have money taken out of your check & transferred to the card. If Walmart is forcing their employees, that they have to have a Walmart card and that it is with GreenDot, then something is wrong and someone is stealing money.

I truly don't have anything against Walmart but they're a billion dollar retailer. Why are their employees being forced to have their money placed on a Walmart card which is affiliated with GreenDot? It's another thing to be inspected by maybe 20/20 or another news investigator or government senators. The good news is that finally after spending from 10:45 to 15:32, my brother has his antivirus on his PC renewed for 2 years by using a NetSpend Visa Card.

I'm so pissed with Green Dot! I have my temporary card and then I received my permanent card. I misplaced my permanent card which I never used. I've been using my temporary card from the beginning, so I called and asked them to replace my permanent card. They told me it would be 7 to 10 business days. Well, what they didn't tell me is that they would take all my money off my temporary card and withhold it from me until my permanent card comes in the mail, so I am left with no money until my permanent card comes in the mail. So on top of them taking all my money, they also charged me with their $3 monthly fee. I wouldn't even give them one star. I called corporate only for them to do nothing for me but tell me the same thing that the other people told me. I do not recommend this card company for anything. I think they thought they were funny by leaving me only 4 cents on my card.

I sent money from my Green Dot card through Western Union. Western Union stated the transaction was rejected by the bank; the bank stated WU charged twice and one transaction did go through. After being hung up on numerous times, I was able to explain to a Green Dot customer service rep that the $135 is all the money I have. I am currently laid off and homeless. I need those funds. The rep said they reduced the time to return the funds from 10 to 2 business days, which would be 12/31/12. When my funds were not returned, I called customer service and again was hung up on numerous times. I finally got in touch with their corporate office who told me I needed a release from Western Union to immediately release the funds, but he had spoken with them and they said they were returning it in 3-5 business days from 12/27/12. When my funds were still not returned, I contacted Western Union who faxed over a release of funds. The transaction is still showing as pending, and I am on hold for the 3rd time waiting to speak with someone after being hung up on twice.

My wife's employer no longer issued paper payroll checks. An employee has to use either a bank account or debit card such as the Walmart Money Card. My wife obtained a Walmart Money Card a few weeks ago to comply with the employer's new policy. Walmart is in cahoots with this Green Dot company who is the actual issuer of debit cards. So, my wife's first payroll check was submitted a few days ago. It did not show up on her debit card. Several phone calls and hours later, we were told that Green Dot holds submitted payroll funds for two pay periods. They claim that is how long it takes to set up the account. Green Dot had previously sent a debit card and it was activated. They have already taken the monthly service fee out of the initial cash deposit required when the card account was opened at Walmart. So, if you like stress and getting the runaround, give Green Dot a try.

We talked to Green Dot employees and supervisors from some foreign country all the way back to California. They couldn't care less. My wife's whole paycheck went down a black hole and all we get is "the funds have not arrived, it takes two pay periods to set the account up" to "talk to your employer because they screwed this up." There were several other excuses offered but the bottom line is, my wife has no paycheck. Green Dot has her money but uses many stall tactics to not release it. I cannot believe that Walmart condones this kind of business. They must get a hefty cut of whatever Green Dot is able to steal. When one works for a paycheck to pay bills and buy food, then the funds are "detained", life gets bad. Green Dot could not care any less. They get your money and respond with "Too bad, that's our policy." It's interesting they never tell a customer of this prior to signing up and depositing money. We are submitting a complaint to the State Attorney General but the fact is probably nothing will be done. It's a very expensive lesson about dishonest companies. Walmart should be ashamed!

Green Dot is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. On Friday morning, 11/30, I was running late for work but I needed to pay my car payment, so I asked my boyfriend to take the money and purchase a prepaid card to pay the car payment.

Regarding Green Dot Corporation, my name is Juliette ** and I have been robbed by Green Dot. Immediately after activating the card, he called to verify the balance on the card. The money placed at the time of activation was verified as being on the card and ready for use. However, when both he and I attempted to pay my car company, the payment was rejected. I was informed by my car company that the card had been declined. We then made contact with Green Dot's customer service to inquire as to why the card was declined. We were informed by the 1st representative whom we spoke with that the card had an issue and could not be activated. We were advised by a supervisor from Green Dot Company to purchase another Green Dot prepaid credit card and the funds from the initial card purchased would be transferred to the new card.

After I purchased the second card and speaking to several representatives and supervisors, the money was not able to be transferred to the new card. On that same Friday, 11/30/12, a supervisor informed us that the account would be closed and a check would be mailed overnight to be received on 12/01/12. We spoke with several supervisors everyday beginning from 11/30/12 to 12/10/12 and were given different information. We spoke with someone from for the company’s headquarters on 12/06/12 (Sandy ext. **), and we were informed that there was never a check sent out after being told several different dates to expect a refund. She admitted to the company's fault and told us that we should receive a check no later than 12/10/12. After speaking to her over an hour, she then later changed her statement saying that it would possibly come on 12/11/12.

At this point I have not received a refusal. I am not sure what to expect and I feel as if I have been robbed. I don't know how to get my hard earned money back (which is much needed in this tough economy)! This company lies for no good reason.

I just got off of a very long and frustrating conversation with four “CSRs” and one "supervisor". I bought this card last night to pay for a few transactions on eBay. I loaded the money at the register and came home. I scratched off the strip and went to the website. I put all of my info in and then got a status bar that said validating address. This was at 7:30 last night, and as of 9:25 this morning, it is still validating. I was on the phone with Green Dot for 2 hours or more (lost track of time in my frustration) and was pretty much told they didn’t care. Either I could buy another internet explorer to view their website on, request a refund, or they could use my debit card as another card! Yeah right, like I’m gonna give them my bank info?! 7-12 business days for a refund? I was told by the supervisor that obviously it wasn’t their issue because they were able to verify my address on their end.

I said, “Great. Now, what if you validated my address? I shouldn’t have this step any longer, and you can finish getting this fixed for me.” Nope! They work for a company that loads money into PayPal accounts, yet they can’t load the money into a PayPal account. Money, money, money, this is all they want in the end, and they will apparently do anything to get it. I have requested my refund that I will assume will never come. I advised that I wanted to speak with the IT department to get a resolution to the website issue and was told they are not taking calls right now! This is a flat out lie! If they actually had an IT department, they would have been able to resolve this right away. I know several people in IT departments and have myself in jobs gone directly to it and had issues resolved right away.

This is a joke and a half, and I will never do this again. I guess I can just be thankful that they didn’t get me for as much as some of the other poor people in the previous posts. What kind of company knowingly takes food out of people’s mouths or takes a roof off of their head or allows for their policies to interrupt water or electric service for people? A scam, that’s who. I will be telling every person I ever see, meet, or know not to ever buy one of these cards ever in their life if they want to keep their money. A prepaid Visa or MC is definitely the way to go (same fee for purchase and no issues). They are legit companies, and this one’s frigging retarded!

I am a tax preparer who up until now previously referred Walmart money cards & Green Dot cards to my clients to receive their tax refunds. In a few cases they have held onto clients refunds to no avail. It's just one thing after another; 1st they say they need a photo ID & social, then that's not enough. They need to ask verification questions. My clients would call to answer questions, then Green Dot would say, "Never mind," they just need to keep reviewing the documents. It was the same thing over & over. When they finally start asking questions to verify their identity, Green Dot shoots them down right after verifying their ID & SSN, saying, "It's not right."

So you mean to tell me, the same number that's on their IDs & SSN cards, & also the same numbers that were used to file their tax returns successfully is wrong? BS! I've seen this happen to 3 of my clients already, so I know it's a scam. After being yelled at by the cardholder, all the reps had to say was, "Sorry, that's what you get for letting your tax preparer order your Green Dot card, call the IRS." Wow! If you use this company for any important business, there's a 95% chance you will never receive your money.

When I called the card, they told me that just by putting my card at the pump, it would be placed on a merchant hold and it wouldn't clear for 7 days. The hold was for the full amount that was left on my card, leaving me with no gas and no food for my children for 7 days. I called the merchant who was moved and was then willing to call Green Dot to have the pending charge removed. Green Dot refused stating they need to let the system run its course. I called Green Dot which had authorized a transaction on 11 October of $269 but loaded the funds back to my card off after a 10-day wait of the merchant. The merchant didn't retrieve the funds until 29 October which put my balance in the negative. The Green Dot representative and I went over my account and balance. She told me that my account was actually in the -$105.85 and the payment had also been authorized and pending payment for the merchant. She stated that if I cancel the payment, the funds would be put back on my account showing availability to me of $105.85 since I cancelled but it would not be on the account until the next day.

So the next day, I checked my account and my account was still in the negative. I waited three more days and called. They keep saying that the account had not updated. So today, I called and they stated that the $105.85 balanced out the account to zero and I have no availability of funds. Then I had two transactions for $107.95 reversed back to my account but they have no record of that either. They are thieves, I promise.

I purchased a MoneyPak on Tuesday, October 2 in the late afternoon for $500.00. After getting home, I had to leave for a little while, so I didn't scratch off the back and add it to my Green Dot Card. Later that evening, when I was ready to load my card and get some critical bills paid, I had problems with the website getting the card loaded. I called the toll-free number for help, and they told me the card had already been used. I told them that it had been in my possession the whole time and that I had just scratched off the back. They transferred me to the disputes section who took my info and gave me a claim number.

After calling back and having to explain my story for several days, they kept telling me that it was "under review". I finally got fed up on Friday and called their corporate office (which seemed awfully like their original call center), and spoke with a supervisor. I told him that I felt that I was getting a runaround and was tired of it. Five hundred is a lot to my family. He seemed to sympathize and told me that either he or the investigator would be in contact by the end of the business day. That was Friday, and the call came in late Monday. Once again, I was lied to. The girl left a message that told me to call in for the results of the investigation.

When I called, they told me that there were no results and that the call did not come from them. After about 10 minutes of persistence, the individual (Mike) checked something and realized that the results were back. He told me that the funds were used for a business transaction and that the money was gone. He said it seemed that I had given the number to someone. I asked to speak to someone higher than him, and he continuously told me that he was as high as I could go. He could request someone call me but it would be 24-48 business hours. He hinted that it probably wouldn't even happen. I told him that I blamed the company for poor internal security measures, and he said that "it happens".

Buy money orders or find a way to get money to people in another fashion. Avoid Green Dot and MoneyPak; they are scam artists themselves and refuse to take responsibility for their own lack of security. They are thieves. Someone really needs to shut them down. I'm with everyone else; a class action suit is in order here. I lost my $500 and accrued several late fees and reconnect fees because of them. All in all, I am out close to a thousand dollars.

My employer submitted a direct deposit in the amount of $120.00. The direct deposit was to the routing number and account number, which is included with the Green Dot prepaid card. I was originally told by one of the Green Dot account representatives that it would take one to three business days for the direct deposit to be posted to the account. I called again and was told that Green Dot doesn't accept direct deposits. I called a third time and was told that they accept direct deposits, but that the direct deposits need to be from a bank and not a wire transfer. I called a fourth time and was told that the direct deposit takes three to five days, that the federal reserve needs to be involved and that if the deposit doesn't show up at the end of five days, the problem is with the Federal Government.

I called back a fifth time and was told that the direct deposit takes five to seven days and that the company would need to investigate the matter. I called a sixth time, spoke with a corporate representative. This person made me laugh for ten minutes as she stated that "Green Dot doesn't accept direct deposits, they just would never hit the account so there's nothing that we would really accept because they would never hit the account. So please stop inquiring about direct deposits." I couldn't resist asking her (on a landline, on speakerphone, in front of no less than three people) why it was that, "If Green Dot didn't accept direct deposits, why did they include a direct deposit slip with a routing number, direct deposit account number and train their personnel to discuss direct deposits over the phone and have an automated system which discusses direct deposits?" The response I got (again, in a phone call in front of three people in an office using a landline which has a speakerphone) was a hilarious: "Oh sir, now I can't hear you, all I hear is noise."

I gave them the information that I gave my bank - the direct deposit bank account number, routing number. Heck I even gave Green Dot the confirmation number from the direct deposit. I have heard nothing from Green Dot other than "Please call our corporate hotline so that we can investigate" - an action which goes absolutely nowhere. Now what I have taken to is discussing the matter - daily, mind you - on Facebook with whomever it is that represents Green Dot on the other end of the conversation. I've told them repeatedly, given them no fewer than five chances to fix the matter, that if the issue isn't fixed on 10/1/2012, I would file suit. It is now 10/3/2012 and I have filed complaints with the BBB and my attorney general. Ridiculous does not even begin to describe this situation.

Mind you, this process lasted for 2 weeks. In the end, here is the result. Due to them not being able to withdraw the funds from the other person's account, I was out of luck. Duh, of course they are going to use it. But of course, they wouldn't supply me with their info (privacy they say) but yet I submitted proof of purchase, etc. for my refund. So 2 weeks later, I'm out $500. What a complete scam. I will climb up the food chain on this one. I am referring this to the Wisconsin attorney general's office, the BBB and anyone who will listen. This firm has "0" accountability, beware!

Recently, on August 8 and August 6, 2012, I made two purchases using my Green Dot Visa prepaid card online. The first purchase was for $179.10 and the other was for $166.50. I had both purchases cancelled and both companies refunded the money back to my Green Dot Visa prepaid card on August 13, 2012. After 24 hours had passed, I noticed that the money was still not on my card and so I called Green Dot’s customer support and spoke to a man who could not understand anything I was saying. But what we did get across to each other was that, yes, the charges were being refunded. I asked when? His response was, "Not for a very long time!" And at this time I asked, “How long is that?” He said September 8th, 2012.

I got very angry at this point and demanded my money be put back on my card immediately. The customer service representative just said I had to dispute it with the companies and that I needed to get a faxed letter from the companies stating they confirmed that my money was refunded, which is impossible because they are both online companies. This is total crap and as soon this money gets refunded, I am cancelling this card and never using them again or refer them to anyone. I am now without a large sum of money because Green Dot just will not put it back on my card. They are lucky that I live several states away or I would go in their office and deal with this issue my way. I hope an attorney contacts me and this company gets shut down.

I had enough funds on the card to make an iTunes transaction. When I Tunes submitted the payment request, Green Dot refused payment after they already approved it. Do prepaid cards not have to follow regulations of "Must Pay Items"? Now my iTunes account is frozen until funds are paid. When I worked for a bank, this was deemed as illegal: to not pay a "Must Pay Item" when there was prior payment approval by the financial institution.

5 years ago and yes, I mean this is a 5-year old ongoing issue, the company allowed me to open my account using my username, mistakenly as my real name (put it in the wrong box). One week later, after using the card for several times, it was closed due to my name not matching my SSN. They refuse to reissue a refund check to my name and the remaining funds (several hundred dollars) have been stuck in limbo until the vampire state of New York steal it for the treasury. I can't express enough anger over the fact that all these customer service departments are foreign retards that can't speak English or even understand your issue. Wait times of 30+ minutes just to go from calling to speaking to anyone. Complete joke. Do yourself a favor and never buy a prepaid card that has anything at all to do with this company, which is apparently not even a company in the country.

The reps were not clear about the fees when I got the Green Dot card for a family member. Basically, $.95 per month maintenance, plus $4.95 every time you add money, plus $4.95 per month to avoid ATM withdrawal fees that are usually $3-$4.00 each for every withdrawal. So, if you are adding, say, a college allowance of $250.00 per month, the fees are over 6% per month. If the allowance is $100.00 per month, the fees are 16% per month. Plus, the card did not arrive until two months after it was promised, during which time, the fees were accumulating, even though there was no card to use! I am reporting to BBB.

I reload at Wal-Mart, who has their own GD card under the name Wal-Mart Visa. I purchased the premier account from GD a few years ago to increase my transaction limit, and I have often had over $2K on the card. But I think the best thing has been that if the card is compromised, which happened a couple of times, I have gotten credit from GD. And then I have simply abandoned the card and bought a new one.

Green Dot has pissed me off considerably over a snafu called by a slow USPS and just bad information, which I think in all fairness, and I’m being nice in saying this, boils down to poor training for their reps. I had wasted time on a phone with a woman who pissed me off telling me, after what was going on two failed attempts to send me a personalized card, that it could only be resolved by repeating the blocking of the new card I thought I was waiting for and sending me a new one. I never used the card I had received, thinking it was blocked. The woman on the phone said it was and she had me believing it was the first card that was sent to me - I thought delivered late and blocked. She even said it was blocked when I asked her to reconfirm that so I could cut the card up. It turned out I was lucky not to cut it and I called back to speak to a supervisor.

It turned out the card I had was good and the one that was blocked was lost in the mail and was never received along with my temp card, which was also blocked. My complaint is having smoke blown up my ass in the form of bad information. They need to train these people better. To the guy who lost his kid, I feel bad. To the people who bought these as gifts, uhm, you shouldn't have. They even say it's not a gift card. Read before you buy. Walgreens and Walmart will not do much on a failure on Green Dot's part. There is not many retail outlets of any kind, if any, who will take the risk and eat the cost of vendor's mistake. Read before you buy. For the guy who lost $2,300-plus - yeah, I know they have a VIP membership for those who load more than a grand and they will even allow you to load so much a day on and keep so much in balance, but is it really enough to lose $2300-plus? This card is meant for buying casually, both locally and online, and for paying bills from average day-to-day, month-to-month living.

Even if they total over $2,000 a month, there’s no way a rational person would keep that much on a card that is not tied to a bank. If you can't get a checking account like me, then you stuff your cash under a bed or you get a savings account with a card for DD instead of your Green Dot. Oh, and I can tell you for those who say you can't get to a human being on their customer service line - uhm, yes, you can. It's a pain in the ass and their automated answering system sucks and should be revised. But, yes, you can get a human being if you push the right prompts. I had to go through it a few times before I got someone and then I had to do it again to get to their supervisor. Some of you have legit reasons to be pissed at Green Dot, but there are some of you here who are just too stupid to breathe.

Because of this, some of my family's utilities were disconnected and my daughter in Florida is dead. I wasn't able to get her food and medication. She had no help, no food for four days, and had pneumonia. They put her in a drug-induced coma, and removed life support after 6 days. I bought two Green Dot cards for graduates from Walgreens, different amount on each card and clerk did not differentiate on card sales slip numbers did not match. I called the Walgreens store and they said to call Green Dot. Green Dot said I had to register the cards to find out how much on each card. That wouldn't work as I had to give my SS# (and that is the worst part of this little story). I ran out and bought two gift cards for the graduates and I was stuck with Green Dot and out a pile of money. I registered the cards and was appalled and disgusted with the amount of info they had to have before I could register the card. Oh yes, the "customer service" person clearly learned English yesterday. Welcome to out of the US call center.

So now, a company who outsources has all my very personal information and I still can't get the amount off my card. I filed a complaint with Walgreens and they just passed the buck and said "call Green Dot", very bad business on their part. I too tried to get a refund and they played the address game with me and I held for 20 minutes for a supervisor and never did speak with one.

Fortunately, I only registered temporary cards and told them not to send a permanent one. It meant I could not use it for debit. But I transferred the whole amount on both cards to Starbucks card, and they called to cancel the card and requested that my info be scrubbed. So much for the scrubbing, "they have the right to keep it". Shame on Walgreens for participating in this. It will come back on them someday.

After that, all of the transactions were denied at restaurants, pharmacies, and Walmart itself where we bought the card.

We called Green Dot a couple of times and according to them, the card is locked for some reason. They had it reactivated and asked us to use it after 24 hours. We tried to do so but we received the same error every time. We went to Walmart and asked the manager why this card is not even accepted in Walmart where we bought the card. They said, "We can't take responsibility of any issue with this card. Contact Green Dot."

I spoke to Green Dot again, and according to them, "This is an IT problem. We need to refer to IT." I requested them to send the refund check immediately. My opinion here is that when Walmart sells any item, they make sure the item is not defective when at their stand or shelves or refrigerators - what mechanism do they have to validate the card's network issue before they load our money to the card at the register? If they do not have the mechanism, they should not sell the card at their stores. Fraudulent Cards sold at Lithia Springs Walgreens: I purchased two Green Dot MoneyPaks yesterday evening from our local Walgreens since Walmart no longer carries Green Dot cards. The first MoneyPak was for $40 and the second was for $100. I got these MoneyPak cards off the end isle where all of the gift cards are sold and paid for them at the register. When I left Walgreens, I was sitting at a red light and scratched the back of the first card to go ahead and transfer the funds to my prepaid Amex Card, but all of the numbers under the silver tab seal (which had not been tampered with), where blacked out. I immediately scratched the second Moneypak and the same blacked-out numbers were there. I turned around and went back inside Walgreens and was told by the manager that the blacked-out numbers is a security measure put in place by Green Dot, and that I could transfer funds within 60 minutes of purchase.

I didn't believe her, so I called Green Dot right there inside the store and Green Dot said they knew nothing about blacked-out MoneyPak numbers, but gave me the MoneyPak numbers verbally once I provided my receipt numbers and said that after 60 minutes, I could transfer the funds, as Walgreens has a 60-minute hold on transferring MoneyPak funds to protect their customers. I was told by Green Dot that the funds were valid and could be transferred after the 60 minutes were up and they never once offered to freeze the funds because the blacked out numbers were under the silver tab! Once I got home and sat down to call Green Dot to transfer the funds, both cards already had a zero balance. The funds were stolen and someone (per the Sheriff's office) that works inside Walgreens apparently is stealing the numbers then placing new silver tabs over blacked out numbers and then once they see customers purchase the card, they transfer the funds once the 60 minutes is up.

Now Green Dot has to open an investigation into this, even though I called them prior to the funds being stolen before they can tell me how long it will take before I get my money back! This sucks! They had already banned me for life from having my own personalized Green Dot Visa card since I had 4 loads in a 7-day period prior to this, which is just **. But now, I am being told that they have no time frame to complete this investigation and cannot guarantee they will be able to resolve it. At least the Sheriff's Department is opening a case on this! Green Dot has zero customer service and I'm out of $150 total because of Green Dot and Walgreens' stupidity! I will never use either again, I can assure you.

On 3/9/2012, 9 days after my card expired, I made this request. I saw the $19.95 express fee plus $4.95 card replacement fee appear on 3/12. I did not receive the card. I called again on 3/19/2012 asking for status. The CS person, who was obviously overseas, said he could not find a tracking number for the card and that it was sent regular post. He told me to call back on after 10 business days had elapsed.

Yesterday, 3/26, I called again. This person said it was shipped via FedEx, but that there is no tracking number. I asked to speak with a "supervisor." She transferred me into the queue at Walmart Money Card. Evidently, "supervisor" means you get to talk to someone who isn't in India. The wait was going to be 19 minutes. I called Green Dot back, this time telling a different person exactly what had happened previously. Despite this, she repeated exactly the same set of procedures. It was as if she didn't listen to anything I said and simply followed a script. Frustrated, I said, "Can you just priority overnight a card to me?" She said she would send me one via FedEx. I asked, "Will it be priority overnight FedEx?" She said it will be regular FedEx. I asked what does that mean. She had no idea. She said 3-5 business days, which is clearly not priority overnight. She had no authority to request priority overnight, so she wanted to transfer me to a "supervisor".

I refused and asked her to do a warm-transfer to a supervisor without her leaving the line. She finally said it would be 19 minutes and that she would take my information and give me a call back. I explicitly asked her if the call would come yesterday. It did not. It has been 24 hours and there’s no call from a "supervisor". My money has been locked up in this prepaid card for more than 30 days and I am not able to access it. Somehow, they have made 3 separate mailing errors and are not able to give me a tracking number in any case. The $19.95 express fee still hasn't been reversed. This is an absolute nightmare. As soon as I can access my money, I am closing this card out and moving to Western Union. Never have I received such poor, incompetent customer service. Unreal.

I went to reload card that we bought yesterday which worked fine. I registered it as soon as we got home and had put $500 on it. We used it fine to pay Geico. Today, I went to reload it at CVS. The manager took my money and got an error saying that there was an error loading the account. The manager called Green Dot and told them what happened. The lady on the phone told the manager and I that they will have to investigate what happened to the money that I just gave the manager to reload the card. I am pissed. They gave some lame excuse that someone will investigate and call me and it will take 10 days for them to send a refund check for the remaining balance on the card. But they have to wait for the investigation and someone to call before they can see what they will do about the money I was trying to reload to the card.

The CVS manager told them this is not the way to do business. He also said that others have came into the store complaining about the same thing. Is it only me, but if this was my CVS, I would not carry anything Green Dot. Why keep the cards there. I'm contacting the BBB, FTC and anyone else. Some American owned and ran business.

Okay, today, 3/20 at 9:29 pm. I uploaded $200 on my Moneypak. For the record, up until now, I've never had an issue with Green Dot. I use them only for my eBay purchases at the Rite Aid on Oxford Ave. in Philadelphia, PA Store #00552. All is well. I get home to pay for my eBay purchases but I was also going to upload a part of the money on my Green Dot debit card. So, I uploaded $140 on my PayPal to cover the purchases. That transaction goes through fine. Then, I try to upload my money online and it says my Green Dot card has a zero balance on it. I try it on the phone and again, it says there is no money on the card.

Oh really? I'm pretty sure that even though I'm not a math genius 230 minus 140 = 90. So where the hell is my money? Since their customer service line is closed, I can't contact them until morning, which is why I entitled this post as Strike One. We'll see how it goes tomorrow but after reading all of these complaints some that have just happened, I am not convinced this will go well. I normally use Netspend but Western Union closed at 9 pm in the Shop Rite and my Green Dot debit is my backup card for online purchases. I have never had a problem with Netspend if there was something wrong with my balance which only happened once. They were friendly and efficient. Here is hoping I luck out tomorrow with Green Dot.

So I bought a card and, separately, a Moneypak to reload it. Activating the card online presented a few hassles and hiccups (saying a field was empty when it wasn't, etc. ) but then I finally was logged in to my new account. Then I go to add the Moneypak balance, I got error message after error message. I called their customer support to find out what's going on and I am told essentially that because I registered the card online, I was not prompted to activate the card as either a temporary or refillable card and the online default is, you guessed it, temporary, i.e. non-refillable. This doesn't make a bit of sense, honestly. Why would you not offer the same options to your online customers as your phone customers?

The refund for my Moneypak expenditure is automated and I have to fumble through their automated phone menu setup and call back twice before I'm able to speak to a live human who tells me the same thing in an even more convoluted and circuitous fashion than the website. Ironically, the opening message on their phone menu says that there's a brief customer service survey at the end of the call if I consent. When I'm done talking to their lackluster human rep, you can bet I want to weigh in on their survey! Upon being transferred to the survey line, I'm prompted for my card number. The number is rejected because I don't have a refillable card and the system hangs up on me. I don't predict success for Green Dot at this rate.

A week ago, there was a security block on my account. When I called to find out what was wrong, I was told they needed to verify my Social Security Number and ID and would need copies of my Social Security card and ID and have them notarized from both my wife and I and have it faxed. They were also asking me to get the I.R.S to inform them that they did indeed send us the money. But when I made realize how absurd that even sounds, they dropped it, which make me think that they are just making up thing as they go along. I was then told it would take 10 business days to resolve this. I find this unacceptable. How would they feel if all their money was on hold for 10 business days?

We all know that can be over two weeks where they cannot even buy gas to get to and from work. I will not be able to pay my rent and I am incurring fees as a result. I have talked to a number of people in customer service and get nothing from them but the same useless song they all song. I have been told that this is sensitive and would have to fax over info before they would speak to me. There is always a way to verify who has been with them for years other than requesting a notary to verify me. I let them know that they have lost me and will speak very unfavorably of them and have already done so to co-workers, friends and family.

So my dad bought me a MoneyPak card. Like the usual, I would log into my PayPal and add the money. But for some reason this time, they wanted my name, address and social security. So I put that all in and then they told me my information wasn't correct which indeed it was correct! So they told me I wouldn't be able to add funds to my PayPal using a MoneyPak card. I'm like **!

So I called the PayPal. A lady tells me they can't handle stuff like this so she put me on hold twice just to tell me its MoneyPak's fault and to call them. I'm like okay let me give them a call. So I call the MoneyPak place. The lady tells me that the money is still on the card and that I need to wait 24hours before trying again. So I wait the next day. I make a new PayPal account and try the card out on there and it still doesn't work.

So today I call the PayPal and they say call MoneyPak. I call and the guy tells me because my information is wrong that I can't add money. I'm like I told them this already I just need to know how to fix this problem and to get the system to recognize my information. He goes he can't fix this problem because the information isn't right. At this point, I’m frustrated and just want to get off the phone. Then he brings up this refund I'm like okay. He keeps telling me that I won't get this check until 7-10 business days. I'm like okay fine. Never again will I use MoneyPak. I think a scam is going on!

Today, I purchased a MoneyPak card and tried to upload it to my Paypal account. However, this failed. Apparently, my Social Security number isn't enough to prove I am who I am, but I needed to place a lot more than just that: First name, last name, address, social security, phone number, etc. However, something above was wrong. I tried to contact MoneyPak where they gave me the number to Paypal, who gave me the number back to MoneyPak because it was clearly their fault. I talked to an agent (once again) and spoke to a supervisor, who was completely omnipotent and was above everyone else as the head of the department. Making no attempt to even help me, she started to sound like a machine and repeated the same things over and over again. In turn, I got very agitated.

I asked to speak to someone else and she refused to send me to anyone else, with the simple reply "they will only say the same thing". I again got even more agitated because all she had to do was send me to someone else. After I had spoken to one more person and they had in fact said the same thing, I would have accepted it as reality. However, her tone was more of a "I'm better then you and don't have to do anything you ask because I am". I got frustrated and very, very, very angry with her and said some unkind things, but this just ticked me off. I now have to pay $70 for something that should have only been $20 and all I got was this woman, who is in charge of one thing and feels like she owns the world. Also, I tried to talk to her and tell her my social security number should have been enough and she said "we are a financial institution".

Seriously guys? A financial institution? Even my bank only asks for the last four digits of my Social Security number! My bank also has better way of preventing theft and they understand that when you're adding funds! You're not trying to steal from an account! I am extremely agitated at this company and will not be using them again. Companies should not be ran like this and I for one look forward to the day that this company ensures its customer satisfaction.

This is a very important message to Green Dot cardholders and future cardholders. I suggest you not to affiliate yourselves with this company, because they are a waste of time, and don’t provide good service. Personally, I have gone to a store that had to do with Green Dot products, and purchased one of these cards, and was told to register online. The very first time I tried doing it online, their website will not accept my social security number, and figured maybe I typed something wrong, and then I read that it was sold in stores and you had to put money on it then register it after 60 minutes online, then you have to talk to an operator. It would then send you to a specialist to finish the registration.

When I was talking to the man, he asked me for my personal information, such as my name, my date of birth, and social security. The man told me that I will not be getting a personalized card, because my personal information was not verified. I was confused and surprised. He suggested to zero out the money that I have on the card now, then cancel my account and start all over again. I took his advice, and he spent the money online in 1 day, because there was only sixty dollars. This took place on March 5, 2012. Now, March 7, 2012, I went to the same store, Walgreens, to get me another card, and I put $34.00 in it, and tried to register it again.

A specialist answered, and she asked me for my personal information as well, and as I finish and gave her my information, she too said that my personal information was not verified, and at this point, I was very angry, and just told her to cancel everything. That same day, I called back to ask for my refund, and she said it will be there in about 12 business days. Can someone help me, because I think I was screwed around, because there is no reason my social security number shouldn't work, because I never gave it to anybody. Overall, Green Dot is a scam in their little sneaky ways.

My 14-year-old son purchased a card and went to activate online. He was unable to do so . He called the customer service number and was sent a refund check. The refund check was misplaced and found after the 90-day expiration date on the check.

I called Green Dot and asked for a replacement check. I was told that one would be sent. It has been over a month and we have not received a check. I called again and have gotten no satisfaction. My son used a fake birthday date when trying to activate this card online because it seems there is an age requirement that does not apply for the purchase of this card. I explained that he was never able to activate this card and that he does not know what he entered for his birth date.

I told them they have his name and address and that I also had the check that I could send to them. I got absolutely nowhere with the person I was speaking to...it was as if they did not have the ability to reason. I asked for a supervisor and after waiting 20 minutes on "hold", I was told that someone would return my call in 4 hours. It has been a week and I am not sure that I am up to making another call, but I also do not want them to win.

The company should be investigated. At a minimum, these cards should not be sold to minors. I am livid that this company is able to operate in this manner. How many other minors have been scammed/ ripped off? If anyone has a suggestion, please post it. I am also contacting my local congressman over this issue. There must be a regulatory board that this company falls under.

On February 17, my stepdaughter Jessica's federal income tax return was deposited to my Green Dot card. On the 18th I went to retrieve more money from my account to give her for her return as my card has a $400 ATM and $400 teller limit per day. On the 18th of February I found that my account had been "blocked" by Green Dot.

According to them, because her information failed to match mine on the account. They informed us (after speaking with both of us on the phone) that we needed to provide proof of identity. Jessica was also to have a letter of consent notarized, and fax said documents to them, and the matter could be resolved in 7 to 10 business days. What malarkey! The documents were faxed to Green Dot on the 20th of February, said to have been received on the 21st. I have never known a fax to take an entire day to go through. Laziness in retrieval, yes. Not caring because a resolution is not what the company is seeking, yes.

I have jumped through all their hoops and called just about everyday, only to get the same runaround rhetoric. The last call I placed was on March 5 when I spoke with a supposed supervisor named Rez who informed me that, “I could see here that RJ was able to verify the information you provided," and in further conversation asked me to let him contact their compliance department and see if he can take care of that for me that day. Then Rez politely said that he would call me back after talking with them. Of course this never happened. Later that day I called back to talk to Raquel, who informed me that in fact nothing had been verified. She also then informed me that she would also need to talk to Kathleen, who had deposits to this account.

By the way my name is Kathy...formally known to most Americans also as Kathleen. She then proceeded to recite my own phone number to me and asked if this was a contact number for Kathleen. I, needless to say, was almost dumbfounded at her ignorance. Once again I called back later that evening hoping to get something solved as this was the 10th business day, 15th day total in which they had stolen my money from me. Much to my amazement a (said) supervisor answered the phone.

After arguing with Edgar, he said he would connect me with the resolution department which, of course, was yet again unable to happen. Expressing sorrow over the failure to rectify my account, something no one there seems to be able to do. They don't care that I have payments to make in which the funds they have stolen from myself and my stepdaughter are incurring late payments as well as other penalties. To add insult to injury, on an account that they have "blocked" from my use, they accepted a deposit from the state of Kentucky on March 5th.

Also oddly enough ATM and teller fees mysteriously get taken from my account and then added back with no reversal of charges or the original charge showing on my account transaction history when they are finished with their creative accounting. Yes, I do have proof of this. Could someone please tell me if there is a way to get their money back from these lying thieves?

I scratched off the back of the Green Dot card, and the numbers from the card that is needed to be able to use and deposit money into my account came off, and the number was unreadable, and the card was useless. I explained to the Rite Aid manager, Eric, and he called Green Card to explain the card was a bad card, and I needed a refund. The Green Dot MoneyPak representative said they will get my refund on my card in 4 hours. When he called Green Card, 5 hours later they stated that their representative called and verified that Rite Aid had given me an instant refund, so they needed to start an investigation, because I stated that was not true.

The Green Dot representative called Rite Aid with myself on three way, and spoke with one of the managers at Rite Aid, who stated that her manager did not say anything about giving me a refund, as Rite Aid does not give refunds. Their policy is for Green Dot to refund the money. The Rite Aid manager stated that when he spoke with Green Dot, they told him that I would be refunded back that day. After that conversation, the representative stated that she needed to call the investigation department, and give them the information that Rite Aid provided, and transferred the call to a man, who called himself William, who said he is a supervisor, but would not give me any other information.

I have been on the phone for 2 days, fighting for my money back, and I have been on the phone with them for over 2 hours, as I told them I will not wait for another phone call, and I will wait on the phone, until they finish what they need to, because I need my money now. Now, the man that calls himself William, stated they have to continue the investigations, because the Rite Aid manager did not provide enough information. I am so upset. I could not sleep over the anger, and I am late with my car payment, and $30 was added for late fees, as well as a chance for it to get on my credit report as a late payment. The representative from Green Dot lied, and stated that the manager told them he gave me an instant refund, and then said they did not lie. That is what they had been told, even though the manager is saying on the 3 way call that a refund was not given. This has stressed me, and I will never buy another Green Dot MoneyPak card ever again, and I want to warn others about this situation, and I want my money back.
