I have had my Green Dot MoneyCard from Walmart for about 3 years with no issues. Just recently over the weekend my paycheck was deposited as normal but when I tried to use my card it was declined. When I called to check my balance I was transferred to customer care and I was told my funds had been frozen due to a security block. I was also told I needed a new card which they were going to be sending out to me but it was going to take 7 days and I cannot access my funds until it is received. This is so ridiculous and unfair and it was done without warning. I have no other funds and need to pay bills. I tried to call numerous times and I would like to know who I can talk to about this matter. I may not even receive my card because it keeps being sent to my physical address and I do not get mail there but they would not let me send it anywhere else. Please Help!!! I plan to never use Green Dot again.

Filed against: Green Dot Corporation. 3465 E Foothill Blvd, Pasadena CA 91107-6071. Complaint Description: My funds of $500 are inaccessible. Three days ago I loaded $500 on a prepaid Green Dot card. I did this to pay bills online. Upon realizing it wouldn't go thru to pay my bills I called customer support. They stated that since this was a temporary card, that I was only going to be able to use it in house purchases only. They stated that they would not be sending me a regular card, so I would have to use this card to get all the money off of it. I tried to use it and run it as credit as I was told, and the card declined. I had to call CS back and after a Long scripted reply, I was told that they would create a ticket and to try again in one hour. I did this. I waited 2 hours actually.
I went into Walmart where I purchased the card, and was able to use a transaction for $10. Thinking that the card was fixed I resumed to get groceries. Went to pay for my groceries and card declined! I called customer service back and was very aggravated that MY MONEY was not accessible. After the SAME scripted response the CS was not wanting to hear what I was asking, if I CANNOT use my card, how was I going to get all my money off of it. I would have NEVER purchased this prepaid card if I would have known you couldn't use it. So the CS rep stated that he would reset the card and use it again in an hour. Ok, I waited a whole 24. I used the card for a local purchase at Subway for $10. Thinking the problem was fixed, I went to get gas, DECLINED again!!! Ok, seems to me I am only allowed to make one purchase per day!!!
I called Customer service AGAIN, got the same script and refusing to hear what I am saying, I understand everything that was told to me, I know the card is in house only, I know its purpose. My question to you is create a ticket and let me use it so I can purchase ONE BIG item at $450.00 so I can get ALL of my funds used off this card and I won't deal with it anymore. CS stated that they do NOT make tickets to reset the card when in fact they have did it twice already. REALLY??? So my other question was, "If I can't use this card today, how are you going to allow me to get my hard earned money off this card. Are you going to send me a new card, or send me a check with the remaining funds?" I got told NO. They do not do any of that. So how does someone get the funds if they can't use the card at ALL, can't get a new one, or you don't send them their money? This is a joke.
This company is being unethical and taking peoples money and not making it right. All I want is the money I put on a prepaid card, MY money. I do not owe this business anything, especially not $500 worth. I should be able to access funds just like I would be if it were any other prepaid card. There is no fine print on the packaging package that states, caution you may not be able to access funds. I mean this is ludicrous!! I am reporting because I need help getting my money. I have asked to speak to someone above each person I have spoken to, and they refuse and say they are the person in charge.
I have worked customer service all my life and NEVER have I ever had to deal with such. That amount of money may not seem like a big deal but to me was money out of my children's mouth. How is this legal? They should be able to refund what exactly is in your available balance someway, not let folks load their money and they can't even use the card. This company needs to be investigated and SHUT Down. If I cannot access my funds, I will be taking legal action. Your Desired Resolution: I want my money I put on the card plain and simple.

My account has been blocked pending further review for months. I can never get anyone on the phone and I need the money that is loaded on that card. I keep getting charged the 9.95 monthly fee even though I can't and haven't used the card. Even when I call customer service I can never speak to an actual person. I want my money.

My mother got a Green Dot card to have her disability load onto and once it loaded to the card she went to make a purchase and it was declined. Later she learned her card was blocked. She was asked to upload her ID which she did but then her account was closed and she could not access her account anymore. Customer service is automated and there is no person to speak with. I found the # for corporate and called it. I had to select option 3 to get a person which is not what it said on the number when you call but I just kept pressing options until I got someone.
Finally get someone on the phone and they tell me she has to speak with someone else and then I got put on an eternal hold. I have done this 3 times already and never get anyone but the 1st person that says I need to talk to someone else. But those people never answer. You will sit on hold for hours and no one will ever answer. This company stole $1300. Looks like I need a lawyer to get her $ back.

We bought a card with 500$!!! at Walgreens. Since weeks we try to register the card on the website and it only says Card is invalid. Customer support via email isn't answering at all. Seems to be a common Green Dot practice, when you compare the reviews on Consumeraffairs.com. 500$ down the drain. Beware: Scam company.

I purchased a MoneyPak at a Dollar General in the amount of $200. I tried to deposit money to my prepaid card and it said deposit failed. After numerous attempts to get a refund I still haven’t heard or gotten my refund.

I just wanted to add 500 to my RushCard to send to my mom and that ended up not happening at all after uploading picture and it saying successful. After that I receive nothing. That is all the money I have. I won’t make it this month while it this money. This has to be stop because they have no real customer rep.

Updated on 04/04/2019: I'm constantly being told by each customer service representative that I am supposed to have the monthly maintenance fee waived! But yet, after a complaint made over and over, someone would say something else!!??? Just like the cash back program that was supposed to have been for all of the customers who've been having their accounts up to 3/31/19 was supposed to have been receiving up to 250.00 cash back!! Well, no one has even responded recently to me back on this!! Over and over is hell! This is how Green Dot treat their customers! Apparently I need to get BBB involved in this matter unless changes are made! I need my money! My name is Mrs.Katherine **!!
Updated on 03/25/2019: This is the third time that I've written in Green Dot about taking the 9.95 monthly maintenance fee off my card, when knowingly, that I'm not supposed to have any maintenance fee taken as long as I have direct deposit of over 300 every month! It was even agreed upon myself speaking directly to Green Dot when this mess happened a few months ago... after they'd founded the correct information. They'd refunded my money back. But this mess restarted again last month, and now, here it is again, this morning of 3/25/19, it's taken again! This problem needs to get solved and I need my money back! Everything else is ok. But this of the fee steadily getting taken! And then putting my account in the negative at that! When it's not fault for none of the times the negative occurred. This is awfully done to a customer that is doing the best she can to trust your company and business!???
Original Review: Green Dot has been failing to satisfy my needs! They have these promotions provided on advertisements and on the paper that's mailed with the cards! But yet, my account hasn't been getting honored!! Money is steadily getting taken! Account is steadily being charged monthly payments of 9.95!! It's supposed to be 7.95 monthly if you don't have direct deposit set up! To which I do! My account is supposed to be earning cash back from swipes per 200.00 spent! And I have over 800 being deposited each month! But I'm still getting charged monthly fees!! And I'm supposed to be earning the 100.00 to my account per amount listed of direct deposit!!! I have been reaching out to three departments more than 4 times to Green Dot! Nothing but misinformed information, lies!! Refusal to put me through to manager! This is ridiculous!! And I am disabled! I accidentally bought a Green Dot Visa card from Pick N Save store in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. I paid in $100 cash, this was a gift for my son. I think I bought it about 3 weeks ago. I did not know about Green Dot so we tried using just like any other Visa card we buy but it said we need to activate it. We tried using Call center, Website and Mobile app but nothing worked. We keep getting some or the other error.
I tried on phone again not it did not even recognizes last 4 of my SSN and kicks me out of call. I have nowhere to go. My $100 is stuck. And WAIT... what do you guys need all the details from me including SSN. I am really scared Green Dot itself is some kind of scam. I have lodged a complaint with Pick n Save also. Where can I reach out to get my grievance resolved. It is really frustrating.

The customer service is the worse. They got information wrong. Asked if I could transfer the money from direct deposit into my other account due to them locking the card. They say no. We have bills to pay and we owe money due to all of this. Just want our money back. I'll go to a different company that wants my money and business.

I have regular direct deposits from my employer on the Walmart MoneyCard with no problem. I get a direct deposit from my university through funds dispersed by the United States Department of Education and my card was blocked due to a suspicious deposit. Are you serious? I contacted customer service and after being on hold for a solid hour they told me that their secret computer system had to verify it and it wasn't up to a person. What is this Skynet. They were suppose to have a supervisor call me back in 4 hours. That didn't happen. I called back. They said make it 24. This is the worst card ever. They ended up saying thank you and hanging up on me. Terrible customer service. I thought my phone carrier was bad, but Green Dot has them beat. If my funds aren't released by Monday I'm contacting my attorney. Ridiculous!

I recently purchased a GreenDot Prepaid Visa debit card. A couple of days ago I got a refund back for my school, that was deposited on the credit card. For some unknown reason this caused my credit card to become restricted. I called the customer service phone number on two separate occasions on the same day, and never reached a live agent.
Upon the third attempt to reach a customer service representative, I got an automated message telling me that I needed to submit documentation to an email address. The reason for this automated message was because I had called on two previous occasions, however I never spoke to an agent who told me that I needed to submit documentation for my credit card. I do not know what type of documentation is required or why my card is restricted. Subsequent attempts to contact an agent have been unsuccessful. I have several thousand dollars on my credit card and no way to access it, and no reason for the restriction.

I don’t recommend my employer deposited my check 1,000 plus yesterday turns out my card had a block on it yet they still received my deposit, a block was placed on my card without even notifying me. First time I called I was on hold for 50 mins and got hung up on, second time I called I was provided with misleading information. I was told I would have to wait in the mail to get a new card. I was upset because the whole purpose of obtaining this prepaid card was to get paid a day earlier, rep told me the fastest he could get my card to me would be Tuesday. Keep in mind that’s a whole week out from my payday. Third time I called I asked for a supervisor. Rep told me there was no one superior that could help me and they couldn’t do anything for me.
Fourth time I called I spoke to a supervisor. I asked if I get expedited my card to overnight and I would pay the fee if there was one, because I have a Walmart prepaid as well and was able to get it overnight supervisor told me I had to wait for the 3 business days and told me it was a one time courtesy to get it in 3 ways when the rep before her told me they already had two ways of sending it I said why was she giving me misleading information. Very rude. Kept cutting me off and hung up on me. I received no noticed my account was closed, why would they receive a deposit from my employer if they knew I wouldn’t be able to access it. I asked if account could be active so I could at least withdraw my funds. They weren’t trying to do anything for me. Worst customer service I ever dealt with. Really considering filing a lawsuit for holding my funds. Please don’t use this service. I don’t recommend to anyone out there.

Got my new card from Green Dot. First deposit from Social Security goes in on 23rd. Then my account is locked. Can’t pay my bills etc! Sent my ID everyday for a week to verifymydocs@greendot.com. Still my account is blocked! What gives you the right to mess with people's lives! Do you have any idea what’s it’s like at my age to ask your kids to borrow money to pay my bills??? Now I read all these reviews, I see I’m not the only life you're messing with!

On July 11, 2018, I sent $ 800 from my Paypal account to the Gobank account. Gobank blocked my account. I called them, they said that I should send them an ID and gave me my case number **. I sent my ID front and back 100 times and I am getting no response. I cannot get my money back for 6 months. This is scammers. My lawyer is preparing a case for court. Gobank Fraud company!

First of all I had $1000 on my card. I had the virtual card info and the physical card was coming 10 days later. In order to get a rental money order I used my vc for a MoneyGram transfer. MoneyGram approved it and sent confirmation info just to backdoor and cancel the transaction and sent me email confirmation of the cancellation. (I’ve filed a complaint against them for this!) This was 1.24.2019. Now on 2.1.2019 I still have a pending transaction of 994.99 on my account with no way to retrieve my money which is gonna cause a world of issues in itself. Beyond that MoneyGram has claims they canceled the payment and that it depends on when my bank releases the funds. I don’t believe this entirely however, 5 business days after a vendor doesn’t collect my funds should go back to available status which is where Green Dot COMPLETELY has dropped the ball!!!
They REFUSE to do anything stating nothing can be done until the canceled transaction is no longer pending. They won’t do a stop payment. A dispute. Fix the issue. Reach out to the vendor. NOTHING. They just want your fees and your money. Customer satisfaction and client focus are NOT their strong points. I am disappointed and will NOT be using GREEN DOT, MONEYGRAM or TURBOTAX (since I can’t get an advance without this ** card)!!! YOU HAVE LOST A CUSTOMER.

I received a prepaid card from a colleague assuming it was a gift card. Unfortunately, it was not a gift card, but a prepaid card in which I had to provide all my personal information, including social security, to use the card and spend the money in the card. After using the card, I called the only phone number on the card and the only phone number on the website was 1-866-795-7597 to cancel the card and account. It has been very difficult to get connected to a customer service representative. When I was able to talk to someone they said I was negative $3.95 and that I needed to pay that before I could close the account. I told them if I could pay it over the phone to close the account, and the person said no. That I needed to go to a retailer store and pay the amount owed.
Therefore, I went to 7-Eleven, a Green Dot retailer, and I told the store clerk that I wanted to upload the $3.95 to the card, and the store clerk said that I needed to upload a minimum of $20 and there was a fee of $4.95 to upload the money. So total uploaded was $24.95. I went home and called Green Dot agent at 1-866-795-7597 to cancel the card and account. After hearing the automation recordings, the person that answered said that it takes 30 minutes for the funds to post so to call later. I called like an hour and half later and then there was no customer service option in the automation to talk to a live person. I called many times and the automation did not give me the option to speak to a person.
The next day I called and I was able to reach and talk to a person, and I requested to close the card and account. The person stated that there was funds in the account of $16.02 and that the funds needed to be spent before the account can be closed. I told the person that I just wanted to close the account and that I did not mind to forfeit the available funds. The customer service representative said that they could not do that and that I needed to spend the money on the card. I requested to close the account but my request was denied and I was told again that the money on the card needed to be spent. The customer service rep stated that she would put the card in a "Spend Status" and that when the funds were spent the account could be closed.
The funds were spent on 1/28/19. I called today 1/31/19 to confirm that the card and account would be closed. When I called as usual the automation prompted me to enter the last four numbers of the Green Dot card and then my last 4 digits of my social security card to continue with the call. As soon as I entered that information the automation automatically stated that a credit card would be sent to me and that I would receive it within 5-7 days and there was a charge of $1.95. I was perturbed with this act because I did not request a credit card. I just want to cancel and make sure the account gets close. This is an unfair practice because I did not request for the credit card. To add to my frustrations, I was not able to talk to a customer service rep because the automation recording did not give that option. I do not want anything to do with Green Dot and I need the credit card canceled and the account closed.

I purchased a Green Dot Load and go to pay some bills online. When I logged on it asked if I wanted to update the card so they sent a new card (same card number with my name). When I try to activate or register card it say that this account is blocked. Mind you I still had a balance from the previous month that I was depending on using to pay my bills. I cannot access the funds until I upload a pic ID. When I go to Greendot.com/documentupload it does Nothing! You call customer service number and it tells you to go online and upload ID but the website doesn't allow you to upload anything. You can't get a live person on the phone because the account is blocked.
When you try to register or activate it says, "It's blocked. Call customer service!" I tried for 2 hrs every way I could think of to get it to work or to talk to someone including looking up and calling multiple numbers. My money is stuck on this card with no way to get it off or even speak to an actual human being about the issue! I've used Green Dot off and on for years. I thought it was a company I could trust. Now I can't pay my car note or my rent! Reading other reviews it seems I'm not the only one. I will never use this company again! I suggest no one use this company and income tax time is fast approaching. What a convenient time to start blocking people from their funds! Do not direct deposit any money onto a Green Dot card!

I bought a Green Dot load and go card. I gave the cashier 75.00 dollars for my account. I registered and activated my card, then I tried to get my balance and it said I have zero balance. So I did it again, and it told me that my card was invalid. They now, don't know where my account is. I had to pay a couple bills but thanks to Green Dot, I can't pay my bill. Every time I call I get an automated message that hangs up on me. I have email, messaged and just about everything else I could do, to no avail. It has been a week and I am no closer to finding out what happened to my money. I feel I am getting the run-around and they're not trying to find my money. I am frustrated and in a bad place with my bills. Thanks Green Dot. You suck.

Ordered Green Dot card through Taxslayer, was supposed to receive a virtual card number, only to be told that it was revealed for 5 seconds when I first registered the card. Now, they are saying there is no visibility to see the card after the 5 second reveal. None of the communication from Green Dot stated that this was the case and it is very misleading. They sent my permanent card to the wrong address and refused to give me any type of access to my money. Now, I have to wait another 10 days to MAYBE receive my card. I was hung up on multiple times by the customer service reps, who made it very clear that they were not going to help me in any way. When I was asked to speak to a supervisor, I was muted mid-sentence until I decided to hang up. These people are crooks! Don't use their service, especially if you are waiting on tax money and are in need.

Received a direct deposit on The 25th of January, went to sign in to my account in the 26th to find it had been blocked due to pending verification... No warning no anything. Just ma’am blocked. Called. Was given a ticket number. Said email my check stub & ID. I did!! Was told 2 days for money... It’s late Wednesday still NO MONEY & CARD STILL BLOCKED. Called, emailed & messaged numerous times NOTHING!! Finally got through on the phone to be told they had technical difficulties gave me a new ticket number. My company emailed me my money cleared on the 25th SO PLEASE TELL ME WHY THE HELL THIS GREEN DOT BS IS HOLDING MY DAMN MONEY!! Worst CUSTOMER SERVICE & BUSINESS I'VE EVER SEEN. I plan to post all of my experiences daily to social media to keep people away from this company... Rate— 0 f+. Company sucks. Stay away from them!!!

I just purchased a card from 7-11 and have exceeded the amount of tries to activate it because apparently the card is "invalid". When I try contacting support, the telephone prompt tells me to enter the 16 digit code, which is again invalid so I cannot even get an actual person to assist me.

This company is taking advantage of people who may already be experiencing financial discord! I had a flat tire in -2 degree weather and couldn’t get it fixed because they locked my card! Called twice while I huddled in the car with my daughter, spent a significant time on hold, and no resolution, after being promised the hold would’ve lifted within the hour! How is this legal??? I’m already struggling! Green Dot has all of my money tied up! There has to be some sort of checks and balances! How are they able to act so recklessly?!!!

I just started using this company and they advertise to have your money direct deposited to their company. Decided to have my VA Disability direct deposited which they received yesterday, however because they wanted IDs and pay stub they are holding my money. Customer service didn't understand several of my questions because they use a foreign company for customer service?! Then I was told I had to send these documents in and it could take up to 5 business days to be completed. I HAVE BILLS AND CHILDREN TO TAKE CARE OF!
When I tried to call back to verify my documents were received I got an automated message saying I've called about my card a few times already and to allow 2 business days for them to process my paperwork (they don't even send you an email to let you know they got your 1st email) then try back again and it hangs up on you. There is no way for me to get in touch with a actual person and if the next 2 days go by and nothing is received I guess the process will start again. This is the only income I have and they are basically holding my money hostage. Who does this and stays in business. SHUT THIS COMPANY DOWN!

I accidentally purchased a $50.00 Green Dot Prepaid Visa card for my mother-in-law for Christmas 2018. I thought it was a gift card, which it clearly states it is not. My error. My mother-in-law brought it to my attention. She was uncomfortable providing her personal information for registering the card, so I asked her to mail it back to me. Upon receipt, I attempted to call Green Dot about obtaining a refund or other options. After holding for 45 minutes, I called two other phone numbers I found.
Another 15 minutes went by on hold. I then attempted to register the card and then contact them online. I received a generic email stating the card was frozen due to potential fraudulent activity. The email asked me to go to a link to upload a copy of my driver's license for verification purposes. It also said not to respond with personal information. I tried to upload my driver's license over 10 times, but their system refused to accept my photos. I responded to the email asking for an email address in which I could send the copy of my driver's license. I am still awaiting a response. I guess I threw away $50.00.

Updated on 02/28/2019: This is update to missing $1000 failed ATM withdrawal: 3 months later still don't have money after corporate said 7 day review 15 days ago! How long do you think is acceptable to wait for $1000. It has been since December!!! Is this considered normal. What you guys are doing has to be illegal! Delay, delay and more delay. Please return my money now or I will fight this issue with a lawyer.
I refuse to wait any longer. Your company has been negligent with my money for long enough! I have bills to pay now! Do your jobs and find a resolution. I will report to the BBB, consumer affairs and continue escalating this until someone takes my money seriously. You guys are literally stealing money from me and I'm sure from thousands of others. Are you just letting the $1000 build interest and hope people forget about it or go away? For taking 3 months, since my first dispute, your company should be banned from handling money-anyone's.
Original Review: 1 Star is way too much of a compliment. This is the worst experience I've had and from other reviews this company is literally stealing money from its customers. I had my tax refund put on this card after 8 months of dealing with IRS identity verification and 2 months trying to get this card in the mail. But I went to a Chase ATM to withdraw $1,000 but the money never came out so I called Chase after Green Dot told me to talk to bank. Chase said it is not their card so I would need to talk to Green Dot. I called them and finally got a human after the first person hung up on me (maybe I was complaining about how hard it was to get a human being on the phone) but 10 days pass they send a letter saying my dispute was declined and to again call Chase.
I call Chase customer service and the branch where the atm was malfunctioning. Again they say call Green Dot and the guy suggest calling the BBB which I did. I just don't understand how a $1000 cannot be dispersed and no one notices. My guess is when the money didn't come out Chase sent the money back to my card but Green Dot doesn't want to give it to me (would not surprise me after all I've heard about this company).
Right now I still don't have my $1000 a month later and feel I will have to go to extremes to get it back. Their investigation process is pointless they couldn't find a $1,000 from an atm error. Their customer service agents do little to nothing to help you. They also charged me 50 cents every time I checked my balance and a 4.95 monthly. Please please do not trust this company with your money. You will get burned I can promise (I would be willing to bet every dollar I have on them screwing every customer over 1 way or another). This is the 2nd time this company has screwed me over. Honestly don't know how they're still in business or why in the world TurboTax has partnered with them. Green Dot you are a disgrace of a company and victimize every customer you have!

First time buying this card only to find out the card works nowhere! I loaded 140 dollars on this card and it won’t work. No access to my money. I emailed them cause there is no live operator who can help. What I’m I supposed to do? I’m a single mother who has bills to pay. I need my money! To top it off I can’t get on the app and the website is not letting me do anything but register the card. I need help. This is crazy. I will never use this card again!!!

I’m having the hardest time getting my refund that was suppose to be loaded to my Green Dot from a Moneypak. I’ve been having this issue since November. Every time I’ve called customer service gives me the runaround. Now here it is January and my account is block and I’m sitting on hold with this automatic system saying they are experimenting high call volume ???♀️ Once I get this figured out, if I ever do you will never get my service again.

It's been over a week and I'm still not able to my card or access the cash my own money. The card started declining all transactions, I've even been sent a new. Still not working and calling customer service is horrible. They read a script before looking at the account trying to blame anything weather fraud after many many asking for a supervisor waste of time. I got one on the phone that looked at my account and seen right away something was wrong. He escalated, now I'm waiting to hear back from them. This has been the worse credit card experience I've had. Not happy at all with Green Dot.

I purchased a Green Dot Prepaid Visa at Walgreens. I get home and try to activate the card on the website which is the only option. The information they ask for won't type correctly in the boxes on the page and when you try to go back it will not let you go back to the last number you typed to try again. I try to call the customer service number and there is no way to get a person to answer the phone. I found a different number similar to the first with no results. I tried to ask Walgreens for a refund. They said they can't because once you load the card the money goes to green Dot.
This is by far the worst prepaid card I have ever dealt with. If you are think about using this company I suggest you don't. I'm completely upset that I basically just lost my money and upon reviewing other people's reviews they lost their money too. This is a no go. Let's all band together and get them put out of the business of ripping people off. I'm calling the Better Business Bureau and I strongly suggest that others do too.

A few reasons to steer clear of these cards: $5 monthly fee, at least $3 cash reload fee even if it’s only $20. While direct deposit is immediately available, a mobile deposit of a payroll check from the same bank takes AT LEAST 5 business days! If I’d known that I would have cashed the check somewhere else! I’m closing this account as soon as possible.

I can't get a hold of a representative at all available numbers. Even corporate hangs up call. I bought Green Dot prepaid reloadable card at Walgreens and loaded it with $500 and when I try to register it says card is invalid. I have tried through different phone numbers, online and on app and it wont work. I have tried to ask for a refund but also says card is invalid. I have card and my Walgreens receipt... I purchased it today. Please contact me as soon as possible to resolve this issue please.

I have been using my card that I purchased at Walmart for over 6 months and they wait to freeze my account with no warning at all. When I get my first direct deposit in the account. Now my insurance is late and I'm being penalized. I needed to get my tags changed before the end of the month and now I have to try on the last day if the new card even makes it on time. You have no right to freeze someones account when they have been using it every month and without a word?? I had to sit on hold for over 2 hours to find out what happened. Will never use this card again.

I had my payroll deposited on 1/15/19, there was a instant message saying my account is blocked pending further review. I've provided the required information twice now and it is the Jan 25th and I'm still blocked from a significant amount of money. Customer service is the worst ever. My bills are so overdue that I can't even keep up but still nothing but "Please wait the required 5 more business days." I asked numerous times whether they had the correct information the first time and they said yes they do but of, course then they say, "No. That was incorrect." Never, ever do business with these guys. Horrible company and Walmart, which I know is a reputable company should cut off all business dealings with Green Dot. They are tarnishing your brand and your name.

Need assistance? Are you kidding me! :-( There is no customer service. :-( As I was on the phone with a woman named Jean whose number happens to be **. She informed me that since they messed up and didn't send us our permanent card but we have to cancel the card we have right now for seven days until the new card arrives. I continue to ask this woman how am I supposed to get my money off this card to pay our rent? She says I understand where you're coming from. Do you really understand Green Dot Do you? Because I don't think that you do. :-( We are going to get evicted if I cannot get the money off of this card!
These people don't get it and you certainly don't get it either! Horrible customer service horrible horrible horrible! I want my ** money off that card! I read the instructions it said I would receive a card within 3 to 4 business days a permanent card! Which I never received! Why should I have to have my card shut off for 7 days while I wait for them to fix the mistake that they made!?
I know for a fact that FedEx, ups and the United States Postal Service does overnight and one day mail! From looking at the comments on this page it looks like stealing people's money is your business! :-( You people are horrible! :-( And it's not just me and my husband. :-( We have two children at home to. :-( It's 30 degrees today in Idaho. :-( I guess we're going to be homeless living by the river right? :-( My advise? Never get a Green Dot card. :-( These people lie manipulate and cheat you out of your money. There are so many negative reviews on their Facebook page. It's extremely sad :-(

Go Bank definitively has the worst customer experience I have ever seen. Their Customer Representatives don't even know how to walk the customer through the accounts. I have been disputing a transaction since November 2018 and I still don't hear from them. I really get frustrated to call them because they really don't know much about finance and banking at all. I don't know what other actions to take to dispute this transaction and get my refund back.

I was given a $20 Green Dot gift card. To get access to the funds I was forced to setup an account. I thought it was odd but figured I could just cancel the account after the card was used up. When I tried to close the account after receiving a different card from Green Dot I was told I had to pay a $7.95 fee and that I would be charged $4.95 to pay to $7.95. This is fraud.

I got the card to start putting back for vacation travel. I set it up on a Monday, downloaded the app on my phone. I read through all the disclosures and decided I would do direct deposit to the card. Needless to say, my deposit went through but they blocked my account and it says pending further review. I call the 800 number and wait on hold for 1 hour 13 min.
Finally get through to Alvin in customer service and I can barely understand him. He says he is a supervisor. Ask me to verify all my personal information. After doing so he says, "I’m sure you're calling because your account is locked!" "Correct," I said! "What is going on? My deposit should be available." He said, "Well you have to wait until you get your New Card which will be 5-7 business days." So where in Green Dot's agreement does it say this? When you register the account it says you can start using immediately. So would this be considered falsification of a disclosure? Hmmm...maybe I should ask an attorney.

I received a Green Dot card as a gift. I am unable to use it without supplying my social security number. I am not comfortable with doing that and am thinking of returning the gift to my friend. I hate to hurt his feelings but I also don't want to let the $50.00 go to waste. I have never had a gift card I had to register using my social security number!! This has been such a hassle I would never consider Green Dot for any transactions!

Just got card 2 weeks ago. I kept getting message card at post office. Never received. Called on 1/21/2019. Was told need to replace it. After finding out had to wait 7 days I asked if I could still use temp card. Was told not if they resend new permanent card. I had money going in Wed. So I asked, "Could I wait till after deposit goes in, pay bills then request" and was told yes. 750 went in last night and as soon as it did card was locked. Waited on hold for 45 min. Was told still had to wait 7 days. Asked to talk to manager. Waited on hold 2 hrs. No answer. Now I am being kicked out of hotel even though I have 750$ on card. I will be contacting attorney. They say they sent card but never comes. It's a scam to hold on to money and make interests off it. Address correct. Amazing all my other mail comes just fine. I will not let this just be forgotten.

They are low down sneaky liars. I went on MoneyGram online to send myself some money from my so called "virtual" card. I was in need of cash to handle an emergency that came up. These scammers canceled my transaction after MoneyGram sent me an email stating my money was ready for pickup. I get a lady on the phone at Green Dot. She admitted they canceled the transaction. I would receive my money back in my Green Dot account in 10 days which would be February 7, 2019. When I asked her why it was canceled she claimed to be patching through to the supervisor who could answered it.
That lying witch got on there and stated it was not canceled. They didn't have the authority to cancel anything and to check my account. I did when I noticed it was a hoax to get me off the phone. The witch blocked me from talking to a live person and had the computer say I called several times when it was actually my 2nd time. Don't use this card service. They're screwed up!!!

Hello. I bought a Walmart money card by Green Dot bank and had my school refund direct deposited onto my account. Green Dot put a block on my account. First they said two days. Two has turned into five days and now five days more. I need my school books, supplies and I have two children. One with autism who needs many things. One with sensory disorder. I called them numerous of times and sent in copies of my ID and a form showing proof of my direct deposit as they requested. Only for them to hang up on me and one person to give me a false name.
I've now have no choice but to reach out to an attorney. The crazy thing is that they've done this before when my mom received my SSI direct deposit. They blocked it and she sent everything to them and it took them three weeks to unblock it. Didn't care what stress it caused us. I'm so disappointed. I will never recommend them again. I plan on hiring an attorney today and making a page through social media in hopes of warning others about using Green Dot.

I’ve been buying Green Dot/Monkeypaks for years but after this last issue, I will NEVER AGAIN! It’s been over 2 weeks now since I was told over the phone it would only take 7-10 business days for my $650 refund! They froze my account due to suspicious activity and here I am still waiting for my check in the mail... Unbelievable.

I am noticing it’s the same trend. I guess you have to lawyer up to get your own hard earned money back. :( Stop doing this to people Green Dot. They have my money held and I'm single mother. Now I have to sleep in car with kids because we are looking for new apartment. I work full time. I stay in hotels a lot because of deposit reversal and credit from canceling bookings. They won’t unblock my account. It's been 14 days. I send all sale receipts and BC myself so I know they have received. Please if anyone can help me take them to court or how I can get my money I work really hard and can afford to have money 6 to 700 held from me. It's really horrible thing to do.

I’ve had a Green Dot card for about a year and have use it occasionally through that time. I wouldn’t recommend this card to my worst enemy. I called to have an external transfer cancelled to be told that it needs to be investigated. I set the transfer up and simply wanted it cancelled and this was where the nightmare started. Prepaid cards are not like regular banks where if you tell your bank you want a charge reversed they temporarily give you a credit for that amount while they verify. I was told that it would take up to 14 business days to look into which is ridiculous when it’s my money. I then asked if by doing this would it cancel or mess up anything with my card or account and was told no by several representatives to then go try and use my card for it not to work.
I call back and hold for hours to then be told that my account had been closed due to fraud. What fraud?! When I’m saying I set up the transfer in error. I started to have my income deposited into this account recently and now I am without weeks of income because I’m now told I have to wait 14-21 days for a refund of my own money that’s currently in that account. Every representative is from another country and they are never any help. Even corporate is from another country and if no help either. I will be reporting this company to the BBB and any other consumer complaint and investigating companies I can. Fraud!

I was sent a card with my name, not having used the old one for years. The phone didn't recognize my card # even though I had duly registered it. Then, though the website said I had $1.54 balance, the phone people told me $0.00. I can't even trust them for THAT. When pressed, they tried, "Oh, well, the website takes an hour to update," "you must be talking about some other account," and such. I had thought the people complaining here with imbeciles but I find that Green Dot are, after all, THIEVES AND LIARS, no doubt about it.

My mentally ill brother bought what he believed were a Green Dot gift cards for myself and our family for Christmas. Activation was required for use. We activated a card and used it. Green Dot is now saying we have a credit line with them and are trying to charge a monthly fee. I tried to close the account that I did not even realize I had but they are threatening that if I do not pay the 7.95 monthly fee they will not close the account and will continue to charge me. This am a scam! My brother was taken advantage of as were we. My brother was trying to do something nice for us. Not immerse us in a scam. I called them to try and straighten this and got a scripted answer over and over. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told there was no supervisor available to speak with. This is not an honest company. The front of their packaging promises no fees.

Updated on 03/23/2019: My name is Fulani. I purchased a Green Dot Moneypak card. I added 505.95 from Walgreens, this is my 3rd review for this company. The issue is stiil not resolved. I reached out to Green Dot Corporation. It has been a month. I received no response to my refund request for 505.95. I have a family to care for. The 500 dollars was for to add to my prepaid card but I was told to click the link to request a refund. I did so I got an error message invalid number so I contacted Walgreens which was no help. People forget that people are hard woorking and the money I spent I earned so if I lose 500 dollars that is a lot of money and I have a family to care for and 500 dollars is a lot to lose especially when you are just trying to add money to a prepaid card.
Updated on 02/04/2019: This review is my 2nd review for Green Dot corporation. I made a review about Green Dot MoneyPak. I was contacted by someone from Green Dot by email after they saw my review. They let me know they will not issue me a refund for 500 dollars. I think that is poor customer service and the company does not care about their customers. I have a family to take care of. I was just trying to load my RushCard and the company blocked my account saying they could not validate my ID. Poor company. Lousy customer service.
Original Review: I wanted to load my RushCard so I purchased the Green Dot MoneyPak card. I loaded 505.95 on the card at the store. When I got home I set my account up and I put the MoneyPak number as well as the RushCard number to add to the RushCard. I was told to upload my state ID front and back. The state ID was accepted but 30 minutes later Green Dot blocked my account and there is no money on the Green Dot MoneyPak card and there is no one to contact to get my refund. I tried to talk to managers at Walgreens - they told me no refund are given. Could someone assist me in getting a refund. I do not like the set up of Green Dot - they could tell you anything. I need help in getting a full refund. No one should go through this.

My Dad bought a Green Dot prepaid Visa debit card without knowing the ridiculous fees, which ended up eating up a significant percentage of the money put on the card. Green Dot hit me with the second month's fees because I was not able to get the last few dollars off of the card due to slow pending transactions, so they got more money and put me in the negative on the card, which I'm done with anyway. Live and learn. I learned not to do business with Green Dot unless I have extra money that I need to get rid of. Regardless of that, I sent an email to Green Dot asking a question about disputing transactions, and I was simply told to call the number to make a dispute. They did not even try to answer my question. It looks like they spent all of two seconds to paste a canned response. I'm thinking maybe they should call it Greed Dot?

Updated on 01/27/2019: After 10 days my account is still on hold. When I finally got through to a human, she told me my confirmation documents were not legible yet she was reading information to me from my docs. No one called to tell me there was a problem. They say it will be another five days before my social security money might be released. I have filed a report with the NC Attorney General. These people are scammers. Do not touch this card unless you want them to take your money.
Original Review: Do not put social security payments or tax refunds on this card. They will block your card until you send them your written paperwork and photo ID. They will delay as long as possible releasing your money and you get a foreign call center who cannot help you, since they speak limited English. Beware!!!

Hello, I received a University Student Refund Check into my Green Dot account on Monday, 1/14. My account immediately froze, pending review for “suspicious activity”. After speaking to someone on the phone, they were unable to identify what was suspicious and said to email my identification card and social security card to “verifymydocs@greendot.com”. I have sent an email on 1/14 and 1/17. I have not heard back from anyone.
This is absolutely ridiculous. The funds in my account are used to pay my rent, and I am risking eviction due to these circumstances. I have tried to call your customer service number (866-795-7597) and after calling and waiting on hold for several hours, just to speak to no one, I am now receiving an automated message that my account has been blocked. This is extremely upsetting and frustrating, I am unable to talk to a real person and this is my money that is missing. I will continue to call and email until I am able to speak to a real person and receive my funds. I would not like to take this situation to the extreme, but I will do whatever possible to get my funds back.

I got my card from TurboTax prepaid option. I started using recently to deposit my checks direct deposit. Therefore all my money is in this account. My friend reimbursed $30 to my PayPal. I then transferred this $30 to the Green Dot account. Green Dot decided that I needed proof and block me from using all my money. I have send the receipt from PayPal proving that it came from my personal PayPal account and now have to wait 3 days to have access of my own Money over a deposit of $30... Unacceptable. They never wanted to transfer me to a supervisor and gave me bogus names such as Queen. This bank is a joke and I can’t wait to get my money back so I can close this account and put it in a real bank. Green Dot please learn how PayPal works before blocking people’s account for no ** reason. If you want to run like a real bank then learn how the ropes of how a real bank works.

Website states they can send you a check for any money on card when you close. Sooo funny! You call and the friendly rep (sarcasm) informs you that all amounts must be spent before closing, wtf? Talking with them is like riding a merry go round from hell. Do not expect any real answers. Oh, dont forget that if you go over they also cannot close account. Lest you have forgotten, if you don't close the account you get a fee for the next month. Oh, so now you owe them money. Nice deal for someone. Not you! There is not enough space for the additional complaints. Just Do Not (DO NOT) go anywhere near this card. It is cancer.

I moved from Charlotte, NC to Las Vegas in June of 2018. Decided to use Walmart MoneyCard by Green Dot to have my daughter's disability payments direct deposited. Green Dot insisted I send them a copy of my ID to verify who I am. I sent over ten emails verifying who I am with a copy of my driver's license to two different emails. My daughter is disabled and I had hardly anything for her for a little over two weeks before they got back with me so she could get to her appointments and doctor's visits. They literally didn't care about the situation. I called them everyday and they gave me multiple different stories. Now my daughter is in college through the disability program and she was sent her school refund and now they're doing the same thing again.
Now she won't be able to afford her books until they process this again. The customer service rep told us it would be 2 days before the lock was removed and then before we hung up she stated it would be 5 days. I took every step that I was supposed to take and they still held out for over two weeks. Couldn't buy all of her grocery nor necessities. I have every email I have ever sent. As soon as I possibly can. I will never deal with this company again.

I purchased a MoneyPak card and loaded it with $400 from Walgreens to pay my car note. I went to the Moneypak.com website to put the money onto my prepaid card, and for the 1st time in a month of using Moneypak.com, it asked me to upload a copy of my ID front and back. I did that. It uploaded successfully, and I waited the 30 minutes that the website said to receive an email and an SMS with further instructions. After 2 hours, I received nothing. I tried calling customer service for MoneyPak and there is literally no option to speak to a live representative. So, I called Green Dot, and you have be a cardholder to use them. I have not used a Green Dot debit card in years! I don't even have that card anymore.
Well, I had to act like I had a card just to attempt to speak to a live customer service agent, and, of course, their call center is overseas somewhere; not here in the U.S. So, basically, the foreign rep only kept telling me to go to the MoneyPak website. So, no help there! I need access to my funds now! This is absolutely ridiculous! I cannot even sleep because my car payment is tied up with MoneyPak. I gave my ID at the register and I created my acct a month ago; so why give me problems now? It's my money! I will never use MoneyPak ever again! My next step is a lawsuit. I am going on every social media platform to boycott this thieving company! And I also see that for every bad review, the exact same response is given as if a robot is answering these complaints on here. I had better be able to access my money and fast!

Today I received probably my 80th or so fund transfer from my boyfriend's PayPal account and they sent it back to him and proceeded to block/lock my account. My payroll checks are direct deposit through them as well and today happens to be my 9 year old son's birthday. So I went to purchase his birthday dinner all to find my card is being declined even though I had the funds to make the purchase. I was weirded out so I called and was told my account was locked because I received a PayPal transfer (no one reported fraud and the amount clearly did not exceed the allowance per day so it should had been fine).
They proceeded to inform me that I need to send them statements from my boyfriend's PayPal through email which I also found very strange that’s not going to tell them anything besides the fact that he transferred the money to me... instead of explaining or anything she placed me on hold and then hung up on me. So long story short my son's birthday is ruined and I have no way to access my money for absolutely no reason.

Me and wife were victims in an armed robbery. They took card Green Dot. We used these people for 3 years and once we called them they said, "Oh well. ** happens" and we didn't report stolen or nothing, After calling them they took all our money off this card and never sent another one again. Period. Been a year now, called customer service and was told the us could suck a big one by female and make ID #**. Yes we called back and was told they could not give ID # was their policy after they stole all our money, oh yeah and the cash back is a lie.
We never went negative as they claim so wasn't able to get so called cash back, run from these scam artist by all means possible. They will steal your money in long run and not help you with disputes if there is one, and believe me there will be a lot of them with this scam bank, all representatives are overseas. Run now, or At least read all reviews before buying card. They will screw you. Run run run all US citizens.

I called to see if a payment could be stopped, it was treated as a fraudulent payment even after I told the customer service rep that it was not!!! My card has been blocked which makes me unable to use it or access any money at all. I called to figure out what happened and was told that I would receive a phone call within 1-2 business days. After the time period went by I called back to see what needed to happen to have this phone call expedited so I can access my funds, I was told that I have to speak with a supervisor but they cannot simply connect me to one. They have to call me. I asked if I could schedule a time to be called so I knew when to expect the call, they did that and assured me that I would be called the next day at 12 noon. I didn't receive a call and have currently been on hold trying to call them and speak with someone again for 39 minutes.
Because of someone's lack of listening or understanding I have been locked out of my card, I cannot buy gas for my vehicle, food for my family or pay any bills. I would NOT recommend you use this card. It is a nightmare when you need something done, you likely won't get the answer you were hoping for. I am going back to a regular bank ASAP!!

Updated on 03/18/2019: I have submitted all paperwork requested and am now at day 14. After day 10 Green Dot stopped all communication regarding my dispute. They've not responded here any further so I cannot respond again. This situation is absolutely ridiculous. It's been since November 29th that they've refused to issue the returned funds to my account. I will furthermore be sending my complaint to the state attorney general and the US Attorney General. Terrible business practice. I called and after waiting 2 hours on hold was hung up on. I work and am in traffic for 2 hours a day and cannot spend 2 more hours of my life waiting to be hung up on again. Their provisional credit is ** and just their way of shutting you up.
Original Review: I got my card in 10-2018, I called them to reverse a payment that had been made too soon by the bank, as the phone company said to do. Green Dot cancelled my card, initiated a dispute, and sent a new card without first verifying that I did indeed need my card canceled or verifying my address. They held on to my funds for weeks, though they were deposited back into my account from the phone company just days after I filed a dispute with the phone company. They had to resend the card several times before I actually received one that worked. Then I paid my bf car insurance on 11-22-18 and on 11-29-18 Green Dot refused the payment for no good reason, and never put the 57.60 that they declined back into my account.
I literally just spent 2 hours and 8 minutes on hold and was hung up on, without ever having reached an actual person. This company is charging me 9.95 a month for a card I can not even use. Their customer service is a complete joke and no one ever seems to know what's really going on. I have emailed their verifymydocs@greendot.com account with a screenshot of where they declined the payment and have heard nothing back from them. This company needs to be banned. All they do is keep our money, that we need to survive.
I have sent their FB messages, have been told a supervisor is not available no matter what time I've called, I've been told I will receive a callback from a supervisor within 24 hours and that has never happened either. This is extremely inconvenient, and this company needs to be banned from use in the United States since they clearly can't understand or help any of their customers. I don't even want to give them 1 start but it requires at least one or they would have a 0 from me.

My 11 year old daughter received this card for Christmas. I tried to activate it so she could spend it. I called the number on the card to activate it and it requested every single bit of my personal information from my name, address, phone number and social security number. I finally got to speak with a real person that demanded I give this information or card would not be activated. I told her that I refuse to give my personal information to activate a gift card and she said it was federal law and that this was not a gift card but instead a prepaid debit card and would not activate the card. This was a complete scam for sales information and a $50 lost gift to an 11 year old child. Sad deal. Fraud company!

I recently went through a domestic violence situation, and I had to secretly move out my daughter and I have a family member send me funds on cash app which I bank with Green Dot for the benefit of prepaid. I noticed my funds got taken out. That there was transactions I didn't authorize taken prior to losing my entire purse containing passwords emails addresses. Since I have bad memory due to my abuser repeatedly stomping on my head or getting punched in the head, I started to write down things. Recently I had a fund send to me to stay afloat with my little princess to get to daycare discreetly and I was send a fund to help us for the week. To my suprise my funds have been used move to vault some amounts. Then I started to carefully see past transaction there's at least close $380.00 stolen.
I reported the prepaid card stolen, luckily I found my actual card with my name and activated. I told the cust. not to cancel this one since it's the prepaid that was stolen. I changed pin phone number, the totally messed up part is for a small amount like three hundred 80 dollars I have to wait 10 business days to possibly get refunded "if they decide it's accurate". However 10 days a lot of drastically possibly dangerous situation can happen. My child and I need our funds available right away.
It's unfortunate you call yourself a bank but that there's no certain limits to where you can refund certain amounts right away to customers instead of a 10 day process if it's even decided fit. I loved Green Dot till I realized it's a really horrible service, and shouldn't call themselves a bank. I have never had issues before till now. It's unfortunate and unfair I have to wait that long on top of writing a paper and sending it to Pasadena California which is just dreadful like I wish they had it to emailing instead of mailing.

So, I had purchased a temporary card after being told that I can purchase a temp card in store, then register it and a personalized card would be sent to me via USPS within 7-10 business days. So I had went to their site https://secure.greendot.com/register and activated the card. I was prompted to enter my personal information as well as my Social Security number; fine, I entered it. Their site asked me for state ID/DL. When I went to upload it, my browser closed out and I wasn’t able to get back to that page.
After going back and forth with their customer service agents for 2 days now, I’m being told that that’s a 1 time registration process and that I will not be issued a personal card, however I can apply for one but the balance on the temp card isn’t going to be transferred to whatever card I do get. Like what’s really baffling is the site used to send over this information is a desktop/mobile site and there’s no way (or so the agents say) for this problem to be corrected. As if situations like this don’t happen whether software related issues or just by mistake. I have no problem giving them the information they need but the agents seem to have absolutely no way to help me out. SMH.

My experience with Green Dot Visa card has been awful. I pay $10 every month to spend my own money and they treat you terribly when you call what concerns. I bought a package from Amazon and two people the last time I called refused to connect me with a supervisor. Refuse to help me refuse to put the code in that was given to me by Amazon employees. They are terrible. I would never ever use that card again by 1 or recommend them to friends family or co-workers.

I've had Green Dot for quite sometime now, and recently lost my card. They don't tell you until after the fact, there's no way to access your money and that they can hold your funds hostage. So here I am 2 weeks after I've gotten paid and still with no access to my money. They sent me a replacement card, but when I went to activate it was told that the card was already locked and that they'd send me another. Keep in mind the 1st card already took about 2 weeks to get here. Some now being told I have to wait again. It's ridiculous. On top of that the customer service is the worst by far, and rather than come up with solutions to the problem they just repeat the same things over and over. Take it from me don't ever purchase a Green Dot card. It is not worth the headache. If I could give it a lesser rating I would.

Updated on 01/15/2019: I wrote a negative review of Green Dot Bank a couple of days ago because after 8 weeks I had not received a check to refund my $5,000 deposit plus interest for a secured credit card that I voluntarily cancelled. No balance, late payments or pending charges. TODAY that changed. I received a check for $4500. WHAT? And if I have any questions (Where's my money?) I can write them a letter! Clearly, my complaint has changed. Now it also includes a Consumer Complaint Form to the State of Utah Department of Financial Institutions, the governmental body that oversees Green Dot Bank. Since they are headquartered in Pasadena, CA I will also file with CA.gov and for consumer protection with the Arizona Attorney General.
Also, our great nation allows us to file complaints with the Federal Reserve for consumer victimization. This practice on the part of Green Dot Bank is egregious, baseless, indefensible and vexatious. Am I being targeted as a minority? Do they abuse Seniors? Do they solicit and target the poor and uneducated to further feed their corporate greed? These are valid questions that governmental bodies need to pursue in defense of those of us who are vulnerable targets of consumer fraud and abuse.
Original review: I had a secured credit card account with Green Dot Bank. I came to Green Dot Bank through a series of at least 3 acquisitions of my account. The application with my original bank required no credit check, so I could help my credit without getting dinged for "seeking credit". In a few short years things are much better, and I decided I could close my secured card without doing my FICO score any harm. Also, I would get my $5,000 deposit to cover the card refunded. I contacted Green Dot, and the account was closed within 24 hours, by 11/3/2018. It is now 1/13/2019 and I am still waiting for my check.
I have called twice, and the person in India can only say "it takes 6-8 weeks" to get a refund. I never carried a balance. I have no recurring charges against the card. I have no direct agreement with Green Dot that would justify this delay. Moreover, Green Dot has very defined rules about making payments and will not accept payments except within a specified window. I believe the practice of holding secured deposits for weeks to months after the account is voluntarily closed is egregious and vexatious. It is consumer abuse and very questionable.

So I was approved for a 5000 credit limit on a Green Dot Platinum Card. I was told that I had to at least deposit $200 in order to start using my card and whatever I deposit would be my credit limit. I deposited $500 on November 30th and received the email saying they got my deposit. After weeks of trying to contact them and let them know that I couldn't use my card I finally went back and read the consumer agreement and realize I was supposed to send a verification that that was my account that I deposited the funds from. I proceeded to send the verification which now has been almost 2 weeks ago and it still is not available. Every time I call the Automated machine tells me to make my deposit and I can start using my card and hangs up on me.
I'm very frustrated and aggravated. I have a life and I need my money. I feel like it's very unprofessional that I can't speak to a live person about my money. I work very hard for my money and this is such a nightmare. I don't understand. If I made a deposit from my Green Dot cash back Visa in my name to the Green Dot Platinum Card which is also in my name why my money still not available from November 30th to now? I called Green Dot Visa and they told me there was nothing they could do, not even dispute the transaction. So what am I supposed to do? Just let them take my money? I think I'm going to contact an attorney today. My advice - do not use Green Dot.

I wish I could give zero stars. Dec. 24, 2018 I went to purchase two gift cards. A cashier told me to get the Green Dot cards. After purchasing the cards I saw they were not gift cards, one was for $75.00, the other was for $50.00. I called their customer service number for a refund. Every time I called they kept trying to register the cards. I opened a Better Business Bureau complaint to which they have not responded to. I did receive one refund check for one card but not the other. This was a Christmas nightmare. I had nothing to give my father or brother for Christmas and I'm on a limited income.

My mother passed away 4-26-18 at the age of 91 with a balance of $4,000 on her Walmart/Visa card owned by Green Dot Corp. This was her retirement pension she had deposited to this card monthly for years with no problems. But when I called to report her death and obtain the balance on her account I was only sent a check in the amount of $348.24. This amount is a little short. Seems there was a withdrawal on 5-10-18 for $3005.50 from some foreign company with no transaction number, and called a misc. withdrawal. I was told there was nothing they could do since the account is closed due to my mother's death. Well this is not an answer I was willing to accept.
I have been fighting them for this whole time, I went and had documents notarized per Green Dot instructions. I have done everything they asked more than once and they keep claiming they are sending the check but they keep sending said check to the wrong address. I sent them their form with address to mail check and they cannot follow their own instructions? I keep getting the runaround every time I call and they are rude and I do not trust them at all!!! The first check got to be without any problems but the big amount check cannot reach me somehow? Hummm... Inside job??? DO NOT GET THIS CARD!!! Has anyone ever received their money stolen by Green Dot?

I had misplaced a card which had 116.36. I had a permanent one being sent in mail!! After several conversations with them they blocked my account because I had someone else get it for me so I got receipt and card the next day and account was closed!!! It said from a pin dispute from obviously a card I was waiting for in mail. SOOO how did I dispute anything with no card!! Now I can't talk to anyone and my money is gone!! Also had another 103.00 coming on my card and that is not able to get! I want my money!!!

Purchase the card from Rite Aid as a Christmas present. Got home. Tried to register the card but the recording kept saying the card is invalid. I tried calling the numbers. They hung straight up on me. After a recorded message did the long form with the receipt. No response. A month later still no response. Terrible company. Horrible customer support. Worst experience ever!!! Save your money. This company is a RIPOff!

I have been waiting for a replacement card since December 21, 2018. The customer website has been telling me that my card "will be delivered to my door tomorrow." However every time I call customer service they act like they don't know what I am talking about and twice I have been told a manager would call me back within 24 hrs and that has never happened. One customer service rep told me it was coming FedEx and gave me a bogus tracking #. I am now late paying bills and even had to cancel my trip for my granddaughter's birthday due to having no access to my funds. At this point I would highly recommend not using this card company and plan on changing companies as soon as my card arrives. It is January 9, 2019 and still no card!

My Green Dot account was hacked, therefore all my funds were taken off my card. This happened December 2018. I did an dispute over the phone and mailed in a dispute form twice, still no response or refund. It's been 6 weeks already. Then my Green Dot card is constantly getting locked up so I'm unable to use it. And talking to foreign customer service sucks. I reported them to the BBB but no action has been taken against Green Dot yet. I will be closing my account as soon as I find out if I'm able to get a refund and if that doesn't work then I'm filing a lawsuit against Green Dot.

This company issues online banking information without verifying the person's true identity allowing Identity Theft and Banking Theft to occur. I have been trying to report my identity stolen but their customer support number does not allow you to speak to a human without information that only the person that stole my information has. This is HORRIBLE!

My tax refund was deposited to a Green Dot card. I never received the card. When I called for a new card and check my balance I had 4 dollars left from 1000. I called and disputed many times with no result. I provided police reports, letter from my work and myself with no result. I have spents hours on the phone and no result. They don’t wanna help the customer and I believe this is fraudulent.

DO NOT purchase Green Dot Prepaid Card Products! This company is run from a foreign country and uses the money you load on their cards for their "fees." I purchased a $25 prepaid card from Vons Grocery Store on the evening of 12/7/18. The online registration & activation failed and also did not work over the phone. So the next day 12/8/18, I called and requested a refund. I had to give them my full identity to link to the card to request the refund, and was told my refund was being processed, I was given a reference number and told I'd receive the refund in 2 weeks. On 1/7/19 I had not received a refund. I called Green Dot, gave the reference number I was given for the processing of my refund and was told no refund was issued.
Additionally, although the card was never activated, my original $25 balance was now down to $17.05 due to a "monthly fee" I never agreed to. And in order to receive a refund for that amount, I now had to send a copy of my ID, front and back, and my most recent utility bill. I protested. I was told that my card would continue to be charged the monthly fee. But to help me out, they'd place my card on "stand down" status so it would close automatically upon reaching a zero balance. So essentially, I buy the card at Vons, cannot activate it for use, am refused a refund, and Green Dot uses my $25 and gets my identity.
After a back and forth conversation with a person I could barely understand, who, while she was requesting a copy of my ID and utility bill, would not give me her full name, I said that I'd be reporting them to Consumer Affairs. I was placed on hold, then I was told the "monthly fee" was to be reversed, my account would be placed on "stand down" status so no further fees could be incurred, and that the $25 will appear back on the card, but not until the next day. So my plan is to attempt a purchase for $25 using this card to see if that will happen. I doubt it. At best, I'll probably be out $25.
Hopefully I won't experience identity theft. Update to follow. However, whether or not I get my little $25 back, I'd request on behalf of honest, hardworking consumers, that this item be removed and banned from American shelves. They offer a direct deposit option and I'm sure many other people have lost much more than I have. Not many people have the time or patience to go through what I just went through in the hopes of getting what was paid for. It appears that by purchasing Green Dot Prepaid Cards, we are just blindly giving money away, basically financing a foreign, overseas bank. Let's not do that.

I have had this prepaid card for about a year and have never had any problems. I started college and I needed an account for my funds to be refunded to me, so I checked the card's policy on direct deposit. It stated that you can have up to $10,000 direct deposited on your prepaid card. Everything went smoothly and I had my college direct deposit the remaining balance of my student loan to my money card. I went to go make a withdraw and it said my card wasn't active. So I called the number on the back of my card and they told me that my account is frozen and they locked my card. I am beyond upset because this isn't their money, it is mine and now they are making me jump through hoops just to get access to my money. I have emailed them my drivers license front and back like they had said and I still haven't heard anything back yet. After I get this sorted out I will be closing my account. This is very unethical on their part.

To start off I loaded $32 dollars on it when I registered it and logged in, it said $31. Later on I made some online purchases and the transactions did not match up at all. I was refunded some money and it never appeared on there. Had it for not even a week and it’s the worst experience ever.

I have never received more horrible customer service in my entire life. They shut my card off without any warning whatsoever with a $2000 direct deposit balance in my account and held my money hostage for over 7 days while I waited for a replacement card - after assuring me I could still pay bills using the checking account and routing number. NOT TRUE. Furthermore, I could not contact any LIVING person while my account was on hold because the entire account had been deactivated. Also, I have been paying $4.95 every month for the past year for a "VIP" card which is supposed to waive Green Dot ATM fees and let you make cash advances at any bank, but I'm still regularly charged a fee by Green Dot for ATM and have been repeatedly DENIED cash advance transactions at the teller. This company is SHADY. Do yourself a favor and don't even waste your time and money.

My husband bought me what he thought was a Visa gift card for Christmas but it was a green dot card which meant a bunch of hoops to jump through and a week to wait for the real card. so I got the card and activate it online but when I checked the balance it said zero. I sent an email to support and this is the answer I got back: "We see that the card you've registered is an online card." And it is not yet funded. Please call us at ** for further assistance about your card and reload. So where did the 100 dollars go that my husband put on the card when he bought it? He has the receipt. They said there were no funds on the card and to call Walmart, Walmart said to call Green Dot. 100 dollars just gone.

Today, January 3, 2019 I used my recently acquired Green Dot Cash Back Card after setting up direct deposit the previous week. To my dismay when I went to withdraw funds I experienced the old "insufficient funds" screen at the ATM machine at a local Wawa convenience store, which all have free no charge fee arms. Not only did I get charge a $2.50 fee I was short of funds because of a non disclosed fee of $9.95 a MONTH placed on their so-called cash back card! I called customer service which, after an hour phone call and speaking directly to a Floor Supervisor adamantly refused to remove the charge. I have been a Green Dot card user for over 8 years with other cards an thought it would be beneficial to do so with it newly TV advertise card.
BEWARE!!! It's deceptive advertising at its best. Nowhere in any of it materials sent along with the card does it clearly state ANY monthly fees of $9.95 per month. I was nonetheless severely disappointed at these new tactics used by Green Dot. I have use another non-cash back card for over 8 years with few if any problems not address by Green Dot. But this time around, as I stated, and after only a few days of use, to refund their undisclosed Monthly fee on their nationally advertised Green Dot Cash Back Card along with a surprise ATM fee. In my opinion a good thing has gone bad with deception and corporate greed at its roots. DON'T GET OR USE THIS CARD, GO ELSEWHERE!!! TP Philadelphia PA

I am not a Green Dot account customer. I recently purchased a new cell phone and the person that had the number before me must have been a Green Dot customer. Green dot keeps calling me with automated calls and text messages. I press the button on the call to be taken off the call list. Their system tells me I will not receive any more calls. I also keep getting text messages with updates from them. I respond "Stop". I then get a message that says they will stop sending me text messages.
Neither the calls or the text messages have stopped. I get texts/calls at all hours of the night. Very disappointed that I cannot find a number on their website that allows me to talk to someone to help fix the issue. I cannot imagine how frustrating it is to be an actual customer of theirs. I will NEVER be their customer as everything is automated. Does a bot run this company?!

I purchased a MoneyPak for $400 about a month ago in the end of November. I went to add it to my account. I typed in all the numbers and it came back saying, "Fraudulent use detected. Funds not able to be added. Select button for refund." After calling a few numbers and trying to get somewhere I got nowhere and decided to hit the refund button which I did. I entered all of my information including my account number, my name, my address, everything, the MoneyPak number and all of that up. Screen popped up and it said, "Thank you very much. You'll be sent a receipt through your email."
I got in a receipt in my email 5 minutes later. It said that "Your refund is being processed and you will receive a check within 10 days." That was 35 days ago. I then wrote the company 10 days later when I did not receive my check and asked where my check was going to be from and they responded quickly the same day with an email saying, "You will receive your check in 10 days." 10 more days pass and I've written them since 22 times without a response at all to any one of the emails. They just completely are ignoring every single email that I send them. Have not sent me my $400 and refused to respond to anything. Do not buy MoneyPak. Do not like Green because you will when you least expect it get ripped off.

I do not have a Green Dot card. I am a manager of an RV Ranch and mobile home park. I refunded a $500.00 deposit to a tenant with a Green Dot card that Green Dot refuses the cardholder access to. They froze his card and refused to release funds to him even after I sent them a letter explaining the refund to them. It has been over 2 weeks since the refund was issued. I cannot give him another form of payment while Green Dot holds the funds. We have never had an issue like this before and I will be reporting this to the FTC and any other government entity that will assist in this situation. The tenant has a wife and child. Do not use Green Dot.

Got a personalized Green Dot cashback Visa. I had to verify my ID to do this. My first direct deposit went through fine. 2nd direct deposit went in and Green Dot blocked my account. I called customer service. 4 hour wait time to speak to an agent. The gentleman was nice but unhelpful. I was told to send my ID to verifymydocs@greendot.com and it would take 5-6 business days to confirm my identity. I sent my ID and received no confirmation that it was received. As of right now my funds are still unavailable and I have not heard from Green Dot. I don't believe they will give me my money and I will have to sue them after filing a police report and complaint to BBB. I was not even notified when they blocked my account. I have another deposit scheduled for tomorrow, more money lost. I do not recommend using this company. I'm not sure after reading the reviews how they are still in business.

I have been using Green Dot since my return to Illinois and receive my direct deposit on this card. A few months ago I was supposed to receive a "Personalized card" in the mail but never did. When I inquired about it I was informed that they could re-send the card but it would take 7-10 business days and they would have to deactivate the original card I purchased. I receive my direct deposit on this card and cannot afford to wait 1 1/2 to 2 weeks to have access to my funds.
Today, New Year's Eve, I received my direct deposit only to find out that my account had been blocked. I called and was informed that I could only access my funds upon receipt and activation of the "Personalized" card. It's the first of the month and I have to tell my landlord he has to wait 1 1/2 to 2 weeks to be paid and can't do anything for the New Year's Holiday because they blocked my account without any notice. This is horrible because there isn't anyone I can borrow funds from. I need access to my money.

I've used probably 100 of these cards with no problems and I bought one recently and been trying to activate it and it wasn't working. Then it said I exceeded the times to try and register and to try again in 24 hours! Now when I try it says card is invalid!!! This is crazy!! I put that money on there and I need to use it!!! And it just keeps saying card is invalid! Then I try to register online and it keeps saying card is invalid!

Currently trying to figure out how to sue this company. They have made sure that you cannot make contact with a human. Spent $500 on a card that is apparently invalid with a $0 balance. Website says the card information is invalid, the automated phone lines for Green Dot say the same and then it HANGS UP ON YOU! The ROBOT actually hangs up on you. This company is run by criminals.

I have thought of claim over 8 months ago. Still have not received all my money back. On top of that I'm getting charged more fees than before and after you add it up between all the fees they charge you an ATM fees. You're paying out most of your money in fees. I've been with them for years. Used to not be this bad but I always go back and look at my transactions. After I pull money out of the ATM it'll show the money I pulled. Say $100 then they charge me 250 for a foreign ATM charge then Green Dot turned around and charges me 250 or more for use my ATM. It seems like every time I turn around I'm adding up over $100 in fees in no time so I've got to figure out something else plus try to get the almost $300 that is still owed to me for unauthorized purchases.

I was happy until today When I found out it was legal for Green Dot banking to hold my money hostage until I had a card activated with them. I've been using Green Dot banking for a long time now. I've had no issues until today. They froze my account until I activate a Card. There was no notice emailed, texted or even a phone called given to me to let me know that this could happen! My power is due today. I can't pay my power for 3 to 5 business days and it's costing me $16 to get this card activated because they have to charge me expedited fees to get me the card in a timely fashion. I commute for work. I can't pay for gas. I can't have my card until after the New Year! Which means I have no money until then zero, zilch, nothing. So now I can't even buy the things I need to buy for the new years, for me, my wife and my daughter!
When talking to a lady on the phone all she could do was apologize and Tell me she understands, there was no manager, no supervisor or anything that could help me out at all except for, "You can't have your money period ever until you activate a card with us or your money is ours" is exactly what she told me. I guarantee my direct deposit would still go into my account that part of my account works but I can't touch the money.
The company needs to have guidelines in place to protect the people as well for situations like this. I need my money now. There should have been a way to override this for 24 hours for me to empty my account to pay my bills until I got a card. There needs to be a way for this to be understood. I hope this helps other people so they don't get Stuck in a situation like mine.

I have a dispute. They tell me there is nothing that can be done without a handwritten letter. I emailed them one and they said, "No. Email or fax." Told me it would take 10 days plus the time to get letter. Meanwhile I am out my money. Terrible service. Once I get this taken care of I'm done with this crappy customer service. My whole check was stolen off my card. It took me two hours to finally get a representative on the phone to be told I had to wait 10 business days to get my money back and I was told I had to put everything in writing and allow 2 weeks for them to investigate. I do not happy with the services. I don’t believe I’ll continue doing business with this company.

Updated on 01/28/2019: I love how they say they say contact them. I have. I've been on the phone with the corporate office since December. They say the check went out on Nov 27. Never received that one. Now they say they sent another one. The 3rd of January. Guess what. I bet you know. Never got any of them. It's starting to seem like they are not telling the truth. Well today. I'm calling again. And if that money is not electronically placed in my account before I hang up the phone I'm going to put my complaint in with consumers affair and I'm going to call a local attorney here in Florida Morgan & Morgan. Whoever is going to do the most damage in taking my money back I'm going to hire.
You have had over 60 days. I will not wait any longer. I will be calling when I get home. This is all a promise. That money better be in my account by 11:59 pm. Or at 12:01 am. I'm pushing the send button. To get things rolling. And I'm going to send my story too well. CVS since I bought the card there. But I'm going to share it with all the big companies you deal with. Walmart included. I'm sure they would not be happy if a customer of theirs put 500 dollars on a card and Green Dot would not give back the money. I'm not playing anymore. It's about to be word of mouth time.
Original Review: OK. I got 3 MoneyPak cards. For 500 dollars each. So I would not carry so much cash on my trip out of state. On the 23rd of November. I loaded 1000 dollars onto my card. It then said. I reached a limit. Which I did not know about. It said I would have to wait 7 days. I was OK with that. 7 days comes. Now it said 30 days. Well I was not playing that game. So I requested a refund. On the 27th of November.
I did not receive it in the 15 days as stated. So now I have been getting the runaround. I still have not gotten my refund as I sit and write this complaint. 0n December 26th. Tomorrow will be 30 days. A few years ago. 2015 to be correct. You could call the real bank. And this could have been taking care of. But not anymore. Just routed overseas. Which does not help. They can't do much.
I'm ready to find an attorney. And go after them for damages. I had to pull a tax loan. That I would not have needed. If the money had been refunded. in a timely manner. So now being owed 500 dollars by Green Dot Bank. I end up paying out 500 dollars for tax services. That I did not need. I could do my own for 29 dollars. I can prove that. I have the taxes from years before. Just to save Christmas.
At this time. I have requested talking to someone from corporate. They have 2 days. Which is the amount of time I was told it would take. If anyone is reading this and knows of an attorney in the same area of the corporate bank. Please have them contact me. If I do not have this problem corrected. And a check or the funds sent to my account within this week. I want to start the process to sue them. For the money owed and damages.

Purchased a prepaid Visa card. At purchase there is a $1.95 fee. I thought that this was reasonable. However, after purchase (and vendor says no returns) and after opening the package, it states that there is a $7.95 fee debited after the first purchase and charged monthly. For a card that I put $100 on, this charge is unreasonable. If they had stated this on the outside of the package so that it could be read before purchase, I would never have purchased it. And, I don't think anyone else would. Therefore, this card was completely misrepresented, and the fee is unreasonable. I want to return it, but I cannot.

GREEN DOT IS HORRIBLE!! I bought a Green Dot card some years ago believing the gimmick in their promotion about how easy it is to use their cards. They forgot to leave out that people are able to perform scams with their cards. I purchased a card from Walmart and placed $1000.00 on the card and come to find out someone already had the number and stole my $1000.00. I called Green Dot and they told me there was nothing that they could do about it. I had to file a police report and everything and they completely refused to reimburse me for my money. I even filed a complaint on BBB. I will always protest against people using the Green Dot card. IT'S A SCAM!!!

Bought a card, registered it online, went to go to my account and it said they can't verify my identity but managed to charge me a monthly fee 10 minutes afterwards!? Emailed them and they said I'm pretty much screwed and can't use it online, at ATMs, or to pay bills. Pretty much everything that you get one of these cards for. So now I Have $200 that I can't touch and no refund. Garbage. Buyer beware!

This card was given to us as a Christmas gift. The card buyer spent $30.00. When we activated the card, the balance on the card was $28.00, however we was alerted that $7.95/monthly fee will come out the following day or when the first purchase was made, whichever comes first. This meaning, we only got $20.05 to spend. The terms and conditions of the site say that if you don't make at least 30 purchases or upload at least $1,000 each month to the card, it will charge you a $7.95 fee each month. This meaning that your account will go into the negative.
At the activation of the card, it made us enter our SSN and other personal information. This meaning, when the account goes into the negative if you don't cancel it after you use your $20.05, this will reflect on your credit, thus hurting your credit. My suggestion, buy the person a Amazon card. Don't buy this crap. It is a scam! Their customer service is a joke. We called them tonight to cancel the account and the rep sounded like a scam and said the account was closed. We called back 30 minutes later to speak to another rep who said she would close the account. Not sure how you can close an already closed account... Still waiting for the account to be closed. We even offered them to keep the $0.05! STAY AWAY!!!

Ok, so in the midst of holiday shopping I needed a last minute gift card. I go to my local CVS and go to the gift card section. I see a prepaid gift card with a reasonable fee of $1.95 vs the $5.95 or more so I select the Green Dot card. I had no idea it was a gift card until I gave it as a present, the receiver pick up that it was not and never registered it. I figured ok it was not registered or open, I could get my money back and buy a proper gift card. I return to the store and they say, "Nope once you buy it no refund."
Then ensued the most frustrating experience ever. I will take some accountability here. The card said not a gift card but why was it in the gift card section. In order to cancel the card, I had to register all of my personal info, name, license, ss#, phone#, email and address. Then I needed to create a username and password and I had to use the value right away or lose $7.95 after first use or next day. Green Dot needs a better customer experience when the card is purchased in error. Luckily my first purchase was for an actual gift card for the same amount before the $7.95 kicked in. I then called to cancel my account to avoid them potentially charging me $7.95 fee and billing me. If retailers are going to sell these with their gift cards they should be obligated to state to the customer about the fee upfront.

Difficulty registering card. After numerous attempts unable to register thru app. Numerous times on the phone but kept stating I couldn't be heard and hang up. Never sending to a live specialist until numerous attempts made but then gave specialist my info only to be told I can't be verified so card can only be temp. No permanent card will issued and can only use in person. Can't purchase anything over the phone or online. AFTER ALL THIS CRAP IT STATES A FEE OF $7.95 WILL BE CHARGED MONTHLY when it is making purchases inconvenient because I can only use in person when I am disabled and had card gotten to use online or over phone.

Do not buy a Green Dot prepaid visa card that is sold at retailers for gifts! I received one as part of a Christmas present, Dec. 2018. The gift card was for $10.00, after I registered the card for use, they deducted $7.95, which now leaves a balance of, $2.05! And, if you keep a running balance, they will deduct, $7.95 per month as well as other fees. When you reload, they charge up to, $4.95. What a RIPOFF! The card cost $1.00 to purchase. By the way, when you register, they want your name, address, DOB, SS #, etc., in an effort to "help the gov't fight the funding of terrorism and money-laundering activities." Steer clear of these cards!

I have been unable to access my online account for 3 days to transfer money from the vault onto the card. I have called customer service repeatedly for help. Their system is not generating the email with verification code so I can log-in online to access the account and customer service states they can do nothing to fix this... The first three days I was promised return call from supervisor, never received one. It's almost Christmas and I am unable to shop for our Christmas dinner and finish up presents because I cannot transfer money from vault to use it. I have tried every number imaginable to get help from these people and all I get told is there is nothing they can do. Day after Christmas I have a lawyer looking into this, I am moving my direct deposits to another bank and I probably won't even shop at Walmart anymore after this for endorsing such a poor product.

I can't help but wonder why I have not had the opportunity to speak with a human being. The issue I am having can't be solved by their robots. Even when I was prompted to speak with a representative and pressed 0 it never happened. This was only on a trial basis and after a few hours I came to realize that I am going to remain with my traditional Credit Union to have human interaction when I encounter a problem.

I've been a customer for at least 4 years. Now possibly longer. I deposit money a lot sometimes in store other times via MoneyPak. I tried logging into the app today to check my balance and was told my account is CLOSED. I tried calling to see why and was told put card number and last four of Social Security number in. When I do I'm told the same acct closed and can't use them again. I'm clueless as to what the reasons are, can't speak to anyone to resolve or get answers. I use this to do most of my online shopping. I've recommended this card to family and friends because it makes sending money easier than MoneyGram or Western Union but here I am stuck with no answer or reason why they randomly shut my account off.

Received a Green Dot card loaded with $30. Tried to register online and it states the card number is invalid. Tried calling the customer service number and when prompted to enter the card number, I am asked to enter my social security number. However, the card was a gift and not associated with a SSN. No real person to speak to. I will never purchase a Green Dot card. I am considering the $30 a loss.

I have been a customer of Green Dot over a year. I have loaded numerous MoneyPaks to my account. Recently for the first time one MoneyPak was reported fraudulent which was a misunderstanding. Green Dot permanently closed my account and deducted the amount. Reported fraudulent from my balance. I was fine with all of that except there was still a positive remaining balance my card of $200. After speaking with numerous agents and the corporate office they continuously tell me there is nothing I can do to retrieve my excess funds that was put on card in cash. That's is robbery.

I have spent over 9 hours on the phone with customer service. Some of the representatives were helpful and friendly, others were cross, abrupt, and gave not only misleading but untruthful information. The cardholder died on 10/17/2018, the company was notified on 10/24/2018, and still had the audacity to deduct the monthly maintenance fee on 10/27/2018.
As executor of the estate as of 12/19/2018 we have yet to receive a refund of the balance that was on the prepaid card, after providing all the information they requested in early November. Additionally we were told that charges made to the card (even fraudulent ones) would be honored between the time Green Dot received the call asking the account be closed and the time Green Dot receives the formal documentation (copy of the death certificate, Letters Testamentary, and a copy of a valid ID of the requester). Obtaining those documents can take 3 weeks to a month. That is absurd.
We are constantly told the check is in the mail. They have no tracking information or check number for us to verify. A cynic might think a check was never produced and the longer they can hold us off, and issue and reissue checks the better for the company. I am simply skeptical at this point. Frustrated much? Try to get a callback from someone in this company who actually cares about the customer. I now have a "callback" scheduled from someone at their corporate office in Pasadena, CA scheduled for the next 24-48 hours. My sense is the customer service function was outsourced and these souls in the Philippines who staff it are so bound by "Corporate" rules they are ineffective. Would rate minus if possible.

I purchased a Green Dot Visa prepaid gift card for my parents for Christmas. Either the mail I sent to them was stolen or lost. I have the receipt from Kroger with the last 4 of the card number, and all transaction numbers, and Green Dot tells me they cannot access any information to see if the card has been activated or cashed. They suggest I contact Kroger. Kroger says the same thing. Looks like I'm out $100. No more will I buy a Green Dot card for any reason. Total BS.

I have 4 visa debit cards with $500 on each card. I cannot withdraw the cash from my ATM. It keeps saying that it's the wrong pin #. I know it's the right pin #. When I activated the cards a window pops up saying the information is not correct, when I double, triple checked the number, expiration date, and the 3 # on the back of the card, still does not sync. I have tried to change the pin # but yet again it says the wrong pin. It shows the balance on the cards $500 each card. However, you can't get the money out. What good is it if you can't get the money from these cards. I don't want to use it to pay bills or anything else. I want the cash. Even when you go on to their website, you can't register more than one card at a time.
So, next, I'll try using one card and see if that works at the ATM and then come back and register another, so on and so forth. What a waste of time and energy this has caused me not to say the stress this has been just trying to cash these cards. Total WASTE, would not get these cards for anyone and don't buy them. I was going to use these for Christmas gifts, but if I can't get the money from them I might have to have a few people disappointed.
When I try calling the support number, no one there knows what to do. They keep saying the same thing over and over. "Oh, not sure, it should work at the ATM"... YES, I know it should but it's not. Ask them to check the card to make sure all the numbers and balance are correct. They say "Sorry, we have not the way of checking, just go to your bank and to the ATM, you should be able to get money from ATM" JOKE, JOKE!! I definitely would not purchase these cards as a gift for someone, imagine giving a person a gift card and they not being able to use it. Ridiculous!!!

Well up to recently I did truly love my card, however someone stole my old phone and changed my email info and since then I had to change my number and I can't log into my account anymore so the site tells you to call customer service if you have issues logging in. I have on multiple occasions and they are unable to reset my web info to allow me access to my acct. The only way is to send to the wrong email on file and a number I no longer have! Poor customer service, I mean wow I can send my ID to prove my identity and yet they said there's nothing they can do! Poor technical support Green Dot!

I was just on the phone with them and I went to a supervisor "CHERRY" agent ID ** who put me on mute for about 20 min until she then transferred me back to the beginning of the system. Then I got to "Judy" agent ID ** who told me that she had provided me with all the information she could and that she WAS NOT going to transfer me to a supervisor so I asked to be transferred to the beginning of the system. She told me if I wanted to go back to the beginning I need to hang up and call back. I WILL NOT BE RECOMMENDING GREEN DOT to anyone I love or even hate as a matter of fact. I will continue to post this in every social media and search engine blogs until my issue is resolved. I will be looking for another form of banking.

Easy questions like, "Can you use it for an item that costs more than the amount that is on the card?" or "How does the monthly fee get paid?" And she never answered one of them! She kept not answering my questions and telling me to read their website! I kept asking for a manager and she kept telling me to go to their website. Not to mention it was very hard to understand what she was saying. Very rude and not helpful at all.
I do not trust a company that doesn't let you speak to a manager. Then, after waiting for a very long time on hold, she told me I would get a call back because no managers were available, and of course, I never got a call back at all. How can you even function this way? Now I don't even know if I should use the money on this card because I will be charged fees without knowing it and will be unable to speak to anyone about it! Not a good feeling. Beyond disgusted with this company.

This is the worst card ever! I've had this card for over 5 years, I have upwards of $8,000 direct deposited every month. Today is my 33rd day trying to get a cash advance for something that I've been doing every month for years! I have 3 times the amount I'm requesting, suddenly it's been flagged as suspicious activity, ok, I talked to them and they said this was to be rectified. Here I am again and it is not! Adding insult to injury, I cant speak to anyone about it! They are literally holding MY money. My bill was due last week! I cannot stress to you enough. DO NOT START A FINANCIAL RELATIONSHIP WITH THIS COMPANY! It will start out fine but they are not a bank and in a time like this you won't be able to talk to or physically pull your money out!

I purchased a $100 Green Dot Load & Go Prepaid Visa card in July 2018. Used it once for an online purchase. Went to the website listed on the back of the card (GreenDot.com/LoadandGo) to check my balance, and I get this error message: "The information provided does not match our files. To ensure you are not locked out of the system, please verify you are on the correct website. The website address is found on the back of your card." I call the phone number on the back of the card (866-871-2414) and get the same response. I recommend against purchasing a Green Dot Load & Go Prepaid Visa card.

I wish there is an option for 0 star. Please DO NOT BUY anything related to Green Dot Prepaid cards or MoneyPak prepaid cards. There is no real person to speak to. I requested for refund in Moneypak.com website and message just says "We are sorry. We are not able to process a refund with the information provided," when I provided all the information they required. I emailed them and I cannot even reply back to the email and they just provided PO Box address to reach out. There is no customer service phone number in greenpak.com. This is just crazy. I'm going to report this company to the Better Business Bureau. The worst company ever!

I'm a over the road truck driver. I purchased one of Green Dot's Visa cash back cards. I go it online to register the card and immediately the online registry isn't working properly. Once you put in the first four numbers everything is fine. Then I started adding the second four numbers. It will let you add two. Then the third number jumps down to the next line where the date is so I started over. Well after four attempts at it it locks me out. So of course I called customer service.
They tell me that card can only be Activate online. I tell the lady, "Well it locked me out because the site isn't letting me put all the numbers in on the same line." She tells me there's nothing they can do about it. I'll have to wait 24 hours to try and activate online because the card I have again can only be activate online. How is it they offer a card that you can't get helped with by speaking with a human being. I added 216.00 when I got this card so that I can pay a bill. Customer service tell me they have no control over their website. That makes no sense to me at all. THIS WILL DEFINITELY BE THE VERY LAST TIME I USE GREEN DOT CARDS OF ANY KIND.

Updated on 02/12/2019: My dispute has gone on since December despite receiving a letter saying it was approved. Still no response from company. They even gave me a corporate number and no one ever answers during business hours. Customer service continues to change the story on the dispute every time I call. Save yourself the troubles and don't get this card.
Original Review: I have been a cardholder for 5 years and the one time I have a dispute they tell me there is nothing that can be done without a handwritten letter. No email or fax support. Told me it would take two weeks to get the letter plus 10 business days to process. Meanwhile I am out my money. Terrible service. Once I get this taken care of I'm done with this crappy customer service. If I could rate lower stars I would.

They know what I am saying in these reviews are the TRUTH. Every day I get denied using my prepaid Visa. I call the 877 number on the back. Now that I have the corporate number I will call every day I get denied. I have a complaint against Green DOT Corporation with the BBB and the Federal Reserve out of San Francisco, Ca. When I called Green DOT Corporation they told me that EVERY bank operates the same as GREEN DOT Corporation. Of course I told them that it is BS!
I was then told by Green DOT Corporation to get a credit card. I thought I had purchased a prepaid Visa card, duh. I was then told I would get denied any time I would use the card when I get so far from my house. These people are about stupid. Green DOT Corporation then told me that I will get denied even when I try to reload my card outside of my home state. I have NEVER been denied the ability to reload my card outside of my home state. I have only been denied to use the money on the card. The Stupidity that spewed from this customer service representative was unbelievable.
Today 1/1/2019, I was approximately 40 miles from my house and I was denied at Murphy's gas station. When I called Green DOT, they told me they would approve my transaction to get gas, but I would have to wait an hour. Is there anyone reading review that will sit at a gas station for an hour or more waiting for a company that you give your money to, to approve your transaction to use your money to pay for gas? These denials of transactions are not a once a month thing. These denials of transactions are not a once a week thing. I get denied to use my card ALMOST DAILY! I would like to see someone that has been a customer with Green DOT Corporation as long as I have, since about '08, give this Corporation a positive review. I seriously doubt that it can happen. This Corporation is an expert in screwing their customers without any lube.
Original Review: I load or used to load my money on to this card once a week since about 2008. My children's SII benefits also get deposited on to this card. I cannot use this card as I please. I get denied every day. I have to call their 1-877 number every day and wait 1 hour before I can re-try transaction. I have filed a complaint with the BBB. The BBB stated they had till December 14, 2018 to respond. Green DOT has not responded yet. I have also filed a complaint with the Federal Reserve. Green DOT has yet to respond to the complaint with the Federal Reserve. I am trying to find out if there is talks about a class action lawsuit against Green DOT or is there one already in progress?

I requested a replacement card and paid the $15.00 rush delivery and come two weeks later still have not received my card. When I contact customer service they try to send me a new replacement. If you know my address then why keep asking. After careful research I found the corporate phone number (626)765-2000 this bypasses the current number and gives you a corporate directory. I too plan to file legal action using a better tool or what is called the (UCC) (Uniform Commercial Code) to put a lien on them and see how they feel if my matter is not cleared up quickly.

Purchase a card November 21st. Lost same card November 21st versus 2nd card November 22nd. November Twentythird notified Green of loss card. Customer service reassured me I would be credited for loss card. Weeks later after not having been credited for loss card continued several times to contact customer service with quite Difficulty, Often not Able to speak with the representative. Cannot get past electronics teller. December 12 I by chance stumble across a way to contact Their fraud department, Which swiftly handled my case and Assured me a check would be sent to me within 10 days? Expand 6 days now no check, still waiting. Let's see what happens!

I have never had a bad experience with my card and customer service has always been very helpful. I receive my direct deposit on time and twice I even received it a day early. The only thing that I seem to forget is the 10 dollar monthly fee that I would like waved for those who are not in the negative and receive direct deposit but that’s wishful thinking. I am a long time customer of Green Dot. My account was recently hacked. I contacted Green Dot and was told that I had to dispute the charges on my card to get my money back. I sent the dispute forms in and was able to get my money back. The total returned was over $400.00. I am very happy with the results from this ordeal. I also got a new card number. I was will be a lot more careful in the future when ordering online.

The Green Dot card itself is wonderful. The app is where the issue comes in. The app is always having problems with stashing and unstashing money. Sometimes the app does not let me log in with an error message popping up saying try again later.

Updated on 01/15/2019: This is a follow up to the poor customer service that I reported before. I received a response from Daniel w/ GD and he said to call so he can help with the matter at hand. I called Daniel four times on different days and at different times. Of course there was no answer and no voicemail. The phone rings a few times and then goes to a robotic message for GD. They are trying to make themselves look good by responding to the complaint, but it was just for show. Ha. I'm not surprised. Worst customer service ever! Nuff said.
Original Review: I have used the Green Dot prepaid card for well over 10 years. Policies towards cash advances must have changed recently. I have always done them inside of Banks and now they are declined. When I called customer service to get an explanation, they say, "You are doing a withdrawal at an ATM and you need to use a PIN." I explain that it's not an ATM withdrawal and they have a hard time understanding. I ask for a supervisor and they never put one on the phone. Now when I call, I can't get through to customer service. All of the customer service reps are in another country outside of the US and don't understand English. Don't use this company. The customer service is the worst.

I transferred my money into the vault today and I have not been able to access it since 12:30. I am stuck with no way home. I have called Green Dot several times. I was able to get them once. Since then my calls will not go through with them. I transfer my money thinking it's safe and here it is I can’t even access my own money and all they can tell me is they understand...understand that I can’t access my money so that means my lights will be out tomorrow. I’m stuck with no way to work and all my money is in the vault. Way to go Green Dot.

I'm not happy with this card, have to pay a monthly fee to have a company set a limit on how much money you can spend a day, not fair, also when a transaction doesn't go through the cardholder gets punished meaning funds are held till the card company/bank wants to make it available for the cardholder's use. Telephone calls are sometimes hard to understand, need to have "press 1 for English".

Any time I call you always say my card # is invalid. I have to dial SEVERAL times for it to go thru and then sometimes it still doesn't so I have to try my social security number. Sometimes that doesn't work either.

I want to thank Green Dot's Internet, and Phone Reps. for Making the change from my Direct Express Account issued by the US Government, and Social Security office themselves to A Green Dot account for me instead, Direct Deposit. They were of great help. My Money will now be deposited in Green Dot's Bank. Jan. 1st 2019. I will be able to use Green Dot's Debit Visa Card now instead. Early access is available I am told in case I need funds earlier also. A few days ahead of the 1st instead for a small fee to do this. I am glad for this. Thank you Green Dot. I haven't had any problem with Green Dot. I think y'all are doing a pretty good job. Every time I call and have a problem customer service is always there to help me out and that's great because some other companies aren't like that. They will give you the rum around until your head hurts.

If I could put 0 stars I would. My account has been frozen for no reason whatsoever. I spent over an hour on hold before I got frustrated and hung up. I’ve had to make several calls to the “customer service” department with absolutely horrible service... but this one takes the cake. Do yourself a favor - DO NOT use this company for any reason. Updated on 12/20/2018: This bank has not contacted me so if you see their generic review after this post that is a lie. I have been contacting them since December 2nd. I deposited a check on November 29th. That Check was honored and cashed by Bank of America on the 30th of November. They did not place the funds on my account until this 6 of December so they had that money for nearly a week. Then they put a hold on my account and blocked it the 7th of December and I also put a $2000 cash deposit on my card on the 4th of December and now all the money on my card is not available to me. Their customer service is ridiculous. They are off all their horrible. They do nothing to help you. You can't speak to anybody to get anything done. There's only one real number to contact Green.
I have filed a lawsuit against them as well as with the Better Business Bureau, attorney general's office, the federal reserve because this is an injustice to the consumers. This is a huge shark in the corporate banking world and they are prying upon innocent struggling low income people such as myself and holding these funds with no good cause for abnormally long period of time and there's nothing as a consumer you can do to get your money back. Nothing. This is December 20th and I've still not had been able to touch my $2000 at sitting in my account and I can't even access the account because I'm blocked from it.
Does 2000 hours and they just can ignore me and tell me to keep trying back though that me know when some investigations done of a check that cleared and I've sent them copies of the check that cleared on the 30th and they deposit in my account on the 6th and now they've got my account closed because of this when they had the money since November 30th. This company ought be in prison all of their management. Stay off because they're just as corrupt as most sitting in prison right now if not worse.
Original Review: 1st I will start with I deposited check on November 29th. It went through the bank and was cleared on November 30th. Green Dot did not credit my account until the 6th of December which is completely ridiculous that they got to hold my money in their account for that long. They need to be charged interest for my loan of my income.
Secondly I just deposited $2000 cash on my account and went to go and utilize it a few days later and find out I have been blocked because I need to verify a phone number that is now changed to some number that I don't even know nor do I have and no one can speak with me because I can't verify my account through this phone number and since having this account since the beginning of 2016 never have I had this issue. And now my $2000 is in limbo somewhere that I cannot touch and they refuse to help me in any kind of way. This should be a crime and they need to be punished. I am at a complete loss because they refuse to tell me or listen to me or do anything at all regarding some change that I did not even make on the 4th of December.

Walmart MoneyCard - Green Dot. Card very easy to use. Card cracked after 3 years. Wanted replacement. Told card had to be deactivated and new card 7-10 days. Would not be able to get money during that time. Told them I wanted to keep access to my money (I was not that nice about having no choice in matter). Said I would take out duplicate card on same account, wife's name. Safeguard I withdrew all money I could. Some could not get out. When I tried to use it at store, was told authorization denied. When I tried to call 1-877 number, was told account not found, invalid as well as my social security number. If I tried to go to website, account no longer valid. Don't really care about $9. I quickly removed in direct deposits. More concerned now about scruples of this company when they cut you off at the knees like that.

Worst company to ever trust with your money!!! A few months ago they froze my account without any prior notification on why or what was happening. I didn’t even get a notification after it was closed. One day I went to use the funds I personally deposited and the account was closed. I can’t move the money, I cannot touch it! I sent 5 separate emails for someone to contact me, nothing! Then I finally sent a nasty message to support once again and corporate called me.
A gentleman by the name of Mark ** says he’s a manager with corporate and he couldn’t even give me solutions. Stating he didn’t have details on why it happened or even when it would be fixed. Again nothing!!! He kept repeating his little scripts stating there was no other department I can speak with, basically he was it and no one else could help me. At this point my account and money are frozen without ever knowing how or when or if I could even ever get my money back! Thieves!!!

I bought this card thinking it was a gift card for my son. He had to go through some ridiculous process to register. Now, I find out they took out $9.05 off of a $25 gift card. That is ridiculous. I could not speak to anyone in customer service because this Green Dot institution is a scam and I am going to report them to the Better Business Bureau. Visa should not be affiliated with this company. Please do not buy one of these terrible cards. It is an absolute ripoff no matter how you look at it!

I used Green Dot because I ran into some difficulties with my bank account thinking simple deposit money which initially, you are billed a monthly fee for almost $8.00 and $4.95 to put money on it. You would think direct deposit which is free would be easier right? Nope, I have been waiting for days now with no money for gas, food or anything. I work for Uber and did the direct deposit that Green Dot would never accept!!! Heads up, Uber only can give you a 10 digit billing ID which does you no good with Green Dot which uses a 16 digit tracking number. You can't get the tracking number from Uber until the money is accepted which defeats the purpose. So your money sits out in limbo until God knows when. All of them, Uber & Green Dot use third party foreigner who don't speak good English or apparently hear it either. It is so frustrating to go through so much trouble for your money. This company is a ripoff!!!

Last week I took my ENTIRE Christmas fund ($500.00) and invested in a Green Dot Prepaid Debit Card!!! I wanted to be able to make ONLINE purchases to surprise my husband. What a TOTAL nightmare, ripoff & scam from beginning to end! As soon as I got home... I tried to register my card! First 2 tries... I got a response "System unavailable... Try back later!" Then FINALLY called the 800 # to activate. Was hoping to speak to a REAL person... but that is ABSOLUTELY NOT POSSIBLE!! So used automated system and was informed that my card was now registered as a TEMPORARY card. Was also advised I could ONLY use it for IN PERSON PURCHASES!
NO ONLINE PURCHASES, ATM WITHDRAWAL etc. Oh, and in addition, every time I tried to solve this problem or get MORE info... they DEDUCTED $7.00 from my balance!! Finally sent them a message on their Facebook page. They replied back with the SAME info the automated system told me. They also had the nerve to tell me I COULDN'T EVEN BUY a NEW or DIFFERENT card with it!! (Even in a store!!!) Please be FOREWARNED... This company is a TOTAL RIPOFF!!!

I got my Green Dot prepaid card through an employer which is how she pays me. She lives in another city in California so it's easier that way but in the seven years that I've been with Green Dot Visa it's been a nightmare. There been several times I've had to contact them in regards to unauthorized payments and recently a very well-known company debited my card for the entire amount that was on the card without my knowledge, without my consent, without my authorization. Green Dot told me that I needed to wait from the 1st to the 13th to have the issue investigated.
I tried to make my case with them several times to let them know that it's illegal if anyone goes into your account and take your without your knowledge even if it's a merchant. I ain't trying to hear that. They don't care. Talking to them is like talking to the mafia. You can't even get to another person because they won't let you. It's hard to get through to anybody else to escalate your call.
I filed a complaint against both companies because I've had it with them. As soon as I get my money returned to my card I will unload that card and close that account because I am done with being treated like I'm begging for my money. I think that if at least half of us got together and filed a class-action we would definitely win. Some of their practices are definitely illegal and they need to be checked. If you look at it honestly they're working for us. They're the keepers of our money and they do a real piss-poor job taking care of their customers. I've called many times in last 7 years in tears because I was so frustrated and they won't let you speak to anybody else unless you're screaming at them.
If you ever call them for help on your account you can forget it because they treat you as if you were the one who did wrong so you may need to get some legal help before contacting them because they are not helpful at all. This is not the card to have. I mean they just do all kinds of really ugly things and their customer service is lacking terribly. I as a former customer service supervisor, I would fire them all. Even the supervisors suck.

So I purchased my card at a Duane Reade pharmacy, I put my money in the card and when I got home to activate the card I was having issues with activation so I changed my mind totally about using the card. I called the company the same day of purchase letting them know that I want a refund. I have never used the card because it wasn't activated. So the person said they will send me a refund check in two weeks. Waited two weeks, no checked showed. Called again, same thing, waited two weeks no check showed. Called again, really disappointed now but still patient, person said they will ensure I get the check this time around (same story). Check didn't show after 3 weeks of waiting.
I called again this time in an attempt to rule out my address being the issue, asked for the check to be mailed at my alternate address, waited two weeks. No check showed. Now I'm really upset. I kept calling over and over and waiting and waiting and I can't seem to get my refund check. This been going on from August and now it is December and I still haven't received my refund check. I would never recommend anyone use this company ever. They are thieves, you can trust them. My only choice now is to report it to the police and let them deal with the legal matter. Ps. I have never used the card, I suggested to them to activate the card so I can just withdraw my cash. They can't do that, I asked for a direct deposit, they can't do that, I even asked to go and pick it up, they can't do that. I have no other reason but to think that they basically stole my money. US$500 that is. Again I say worse experience with any company ever!!!

Well I made a transaction with one merchant and due to nonavailable stock they cancelled part of the order which was for X amount of money. The funds were released back to my card within 3-5 business days and actually was refunded back the 4th business day, cool. Now fast forward a week later I made a similar purchase and due to out of stock temporarily they cancelled the order and sent verification to release the funds that's still pending on my end. Now this particular time it's taking longer than the last time to release the funds.
My issue is when I called the customer care for the 3rd time to express my concerns with my funds being released, they told me they're waiting on the merchant to see if they would take the funds; as I explained to customer care, "Why are y'all waiting on the merchant to take the funds if they sent Green Dot a verification to release the funds back to me well over 5 business days ago." I've been with Green Dot for 4 years now and I like the company, but something ain't right with their refund process and it need to be taking care of before they lose VALUABLE Loyal VIP account holders which they find other means (companies) of getting direct deposit. I sent him my email, & he responded immediately, with a list of questions I would need to answer, in order to file a lawsuit. Everyone needs to sue Green Dot. Do not let them steal your money. Personally, I don't plan on settling. At this point, this is no longer about money. I am going to cost them as much as possible, in court fees, & take them to court, forever. These people are idiots. When, there is no shortage of lawyers that will sue them, for free, they are stupid to steal so many people's money. It is really going to cost them. For all the small amounts of money they stole, they now, have to pay thousands of dollars in arbitration. Idiots!! Soon these losers will be bankrupt. Get your money, while, you can.

I had purchased a Green Dot card for my son to have. I have tried to register the card online multiple times but it kept denying its own card. After numerous tries, it kicked me out for 24 hrs. Then, when I finally got through, using the app this time, Green Dot stated that they could not verify my identity. I tried calling customer service for Green Dot and could not reach anyone; only the automated system answered the phone. The automated system could not resolve any of the problems that I was facing. "PLEASE DO NOT USE GREEN DOT. YOU WILL LOSE YOUR MONEY AND EVERYTHING ELSE!"

They make changes to your account and what you need to do to get money off of your card, without letting you know anything. Now you’re stuck looking stupid wondering why you can't get money that you have available. Make sure your phone number is the right number on the account. They don't care if you give them your SSN, or Address full address, your name, or date of birth, what's your kids name nothing. If your phone number doesn't match they will not do nothing for you. So please don't change your number in the next 10 years... They will hang up in your face very fast and won't care. If you ask to talk to a supervisor they will not let you and tell you they're not available no matter what. They will hang the phone up if you keep asking. They will try to rush you off the phone as soon as possible. Keep this all in mind when you decide to use their services.

This card is BS!!! Just know a bank "is for profit". The 5% "cash back" is a scam. They'll only give you $100 max no matter how much you spend. They don't match either!!! Let's cut it; most of us use pre-paids to get our paychecks early. With this cash back card; you're paying them $9.95 per month for membership; please don't forget about the ATM fee that, "they assess". You're paying $120 per month in "membership" fees. In addition to the owner of the ATM's fee, Green Dot charges you $2.50 for ATM transactions. I can keep going on and on. I don't want to mention their out of country customer service reps... AMEX Serve affords you the benefits of getting your pay two days faster and no ATM fees at a "Money Pass" connected ATM. I.E. Union Bank, 7/11, One United Bank etc...

I have to say I have had the worst experience with Green Dot today. I've been on and off the phone with customer service for 3 hours trying to get my brand new card activated. Why in the world is there a block on a brand new card. Then you tell me to, "Go to Greendot.com/documentupload and upload your I.D.," yeah, that's a joke. You type in the card number and it says invalid. Never gives you an option to upload your I.D... Then customer service tells me the same thing again, and I say, "Did you not just hear me, it doesn't work," and they say it again. It's like they don't give a you know what and just wanna get off the phone. Why would you put a block on a brand new card anyway? And how do I get it unblocked. And don't try and tell me to go to Greendot.com/documentupload 'cause it does not work.

My brother passed away and one of the things he left me was a 25.00 Green Dot Visa Debit card. I registered the card and found the balance to be $25.00. After a few months I only had $1.25. WTF??? I called customer service and they told me it's a $7.95 every month for fees whether you use it or not. On my money. Really??? That's as bad as it gets as Highway Robbery. Thieves is what they are!!!! NEVER USE GREEN DOT!!!

I decided to put $300 on a Moneypak to load to my prepaid card. I purchased the Moneypak at Family Dollar (my first mistake) then tried to load and it said too soon. Kept trying and it kept saying wait 20 minutes. It well past 20 minutes. Then after an hour when I tried to reload on Moneypak website. It says “you exceeded the number of card deposit retrieval attempts.” Then I wait some more and it says “you have exceeded the Moneypak deposit attempts allowed in one day” GOOD GRIEF. Now $300 is gone. I have no money. None. All sitting in limbo. Filed a report and I have to wait. MoneyPak Green Dot needs to have a live person to talk to. They have no idea the amount of stress they have cause. No money. No food. Nothing. Please help!

I had to purchase a second Walmart MoneyCard, as I thought I lost one of the cards on my personalized MoneyCard account and my pay had just been deposited. I called the customer service and they told me to pull my money off the card. I went to Walmart and withdrew a total of $1152 off and put $500 on a money card I bought right there. I came home and called to verify the new card. The lady was rude and wouldn't listen when I told her she was spelling my name and email wrong. The next thing I know, I am transferred to an automated response that says I failed verification. I called back and no matter what I press I can't get a live person to fix this.
I even tried creating an account online to fix it, but that doesn't work. Meanwhile, I found the card I thought I lost, which is active with no money now. I can't pay my bills or get my money and no-one will help. I want to cry. When I call and put my social security number in the system recognizes I have both cards, but only the original is verified. I am scared and can't pay my bills and they have no one available to talk to and fix this. I googled the issue and this happened to a lot of people and I found no posts of anyone they fixed it for. I am stuck with filing a Better Business complaint. Please help fix this.

Bought this card as a gift thinking it was a gift card. Loaded it with money and gifted it to my dad. When my parents set up the card, customer service entered the SSN wrong and now we are unable to use the card and it’s impossible to speak to someone because it is saying the SSN is invalid because they entered it wrong. Customer service is terribly lacking. Most companies will allow you to at least speak to someone. So unhappy and I’m grateful I didn’t load a substantial amount on the card because we can’t access it. Do not buy this card. It’s a scam.

I purchased a $500 MoneyPak and I was waiting for my ‘Personalized’ card to be able to load the money and all the while, I have been broke. So, I finally get my card and try to load the MoneyPak and it doesn’t work. I call customer service and they tell me to wait an hour, I do and it still doesn’t work. So then, I have to request a refund which takes who knows how much longer. Bottom line it’s been almost two weeks, I’ve had two utilities shut off and my previous landlord is threatening to throw away my things because I have no money to pay for them to be moved. It’s a complete scam and all I want is my money!!! How hard is it???

I have never in my 28 years of living had so many issues with a company like this. I mean first off you call customer service and they can’t ever help you. Like really why are you at work again? No corporate office number nothing. I hate this company. I will never ever buy another card with these stupid people! I mean really I brought a prepaid card from the Dollar General. Now I’m thinking it’s like every other card. I read the back of the package and it said nothing about having to wait 30 min before I can use it... ** number one then after waiting 30min I tried to activate it and it’s said you exceeded the limits try again in 24 hours.
How stupid. I mean I only tried once. How many times can you activate a card only once and get locked out??? Then I call the number on the back just so the system can hang up on me because I brought a stupid card that you can only activate online. Really ok where is that disclosure on the back of the package? (Ummm I’ll wait.) Yeah that’s right. It’s not there. I looked... Then I call and acted like my card was stolen just so I can talk to a human and what do you know? I got to someone in another country that doesn’t speak English. Couldn’t understand me so hung up on me after I waited 30min on hold. So here I go waiting again just so I can get another person out the country to tell me, "It’s nothing we can do with those cards." Lol I mean I wish I can work somewhere that doesn’t make you work!!!
Now I’m stuck with my money on a card I can’t use. Wow. I would never recommend this card or no other card from this company. Buyers beware. Stay away. I’m a real person and I’m telling you this company is a joke, fraud, and I know one thing. If I don’t get my money back real soon I will be suing this whole company. Fix it now. I’m pissed. I needed that money to make an important purchase & I will be posting on every website until my problem get fix so try me!!! Oh yeah FYI I see y’all only responding to good reviews because y’all know the truth but scared to comment back on the real post!!! I’m calling my lawyer. We need to get a class action lawsuit on this company for false advertisement and taking money that’s not their’s I’ll be working on that today.

In a nutshell, I purchased this POS card from 7-11 because I lost my wallet and needed an alternative to pay my phone bill and such until my replacement cards came in. As many people on here say: I went online to activate my card, and it says it's invalid. I also called the support number, same nonsense. Now I'm on the same position I was in before, but also out the $40 I loaded onto it. Either make my card work, give me back my money, and quickly, or I will gladly initiate a class action lawsuit on this company, and given the reviews here, wouldn't have much trouble finding others.

Tried to use MoneyPak to reload my Green Dot card. I have been a loyal customer of Green Dot for YEARS. MoneyPak screwed it all up and now expects me to wait 2 weeks for a refund that was supposedly processed within a matter of minutes... BS!!! I contacted Green Dot. They have all the information and can see everything but claim they can not help me. There is no way to contact anyone live at MoneyPak. It sends you back to Green Dot. DO NOT USE GREEN DOT! Time to get a new prepaid and I suggest you go to someone more reputable and actually has customer service that can help you.

Last night went to the Drugstore to reload my card twice because it can only take $500.00 at the max at a time. I was making my purchases on Amazon and eBay when During the checkout it kept coming up as card was “declined” from eBay and from Amazon it keeps saying “Payment revision needed.” I have the proof showing that I have the correct amount of money on the card. I called Customer Service earlier this morning, talked for 18 minutes and got off of the call at 4:03 a.m. and the Representative kept telling me that it’s “still Pending” and I won’t be able to receive the funds to possibly December 6th and there’s nothing that can be done about it.
I am very angry right now because my account shows I have the money, when I called the automated number as well as speaking to the Rep both said the correct amount of money, but yet when I go to checkout to make my purchase my card is being declined. This is wrong on so many levels and so cruel to do to someone. I need my items that I’ve ordered but can’t get them because GreenDot will not take responsibility and fix the issue so I can use the available funds that I reloaded with my own money. All I want to do is use the money that I’ve reloaded on the card to get the bare necessities I truly need but yet GreenDot doesn’t give a crap! I’m so done with GreenDot because they are showing me they’re a company that doesn’t stand by their word when trusted and refuse to fix the issue. Horrible company for what they’re doing to me right now. It is the Christmas season and I can’t believe this is happening.

Updated on 12/20/2018: Green Dot responded to my review portraying like they were very apologetic and eager to help me. Left me a brand new number and I have now called for the last 3 days 10 times a day only to have reached another recorded message stating Green Dot was unable to be reached.
Original Review: I have had the absolute worst and most frustrating experience of my life with both TurboTax and Green Dot Visa card. My 2017 tax refund has been unavailable to me to this date November 29th 2018. My wallet with my original card and my ID were stolen. I ordered a new card in the first of October 2018, it came blocked. I was told to get a letter and a EIN/ITIN number from the IRS and upload the document to document upload for Green Dot as I have numerous occasions. I have called every number I can possibly find even the head of VISA corporation. Everyone reverts me back to Green Dot who keeps saying my documents aren't legible and they refuse to resolve my problems.
I am behind on every bill I have, I have since become evicted from my home. And to top it all off TurboTax still is intending to take $200.00 plus off the card for preparing my taxes in which I believe is appalling considering all the hell I am going through. It is damn near time to file taxes for 2018 and I am still without my refund. Someone help. I am calling an attorney TODAY.

I had a $500 Walmart Gift Card thru Green Dot Bank. I registered the card. I received the card in 2017 and went to use it on Black Friday. $493 was gone!!! Someone used the numbers to make two large purchases at Amazon.com and left me with $7. Green Dot says I didn't register the card but I know I did. Their employees and associates are thieves! DO NOT BUY WALMART VISA GIFT CARDS ISSUED BY GREEN DOT!

Green dot has appoligized for the problem and opened my account back up after 34 days. They also issued me a refund of 24$, 3 months of the regular monthly service charge in an attempt to make it right.

I deposited a check from one of my family members out of state. They flagged it as a fraud. I've sent them supporting documents but they won't release my account or give me the funds. The family member out of state has confirmed the funds are not available in his account which means that Green Dot essentially stole the funds. Green Dot has locked my account from all use so I can't even add cash into my account to make my regular monthly payments and now I have late fees for my car insurance, car payment, and I can't get those funds my uncle sent me to get my car fixed. This has been a problem for about 3 weeks, several calls to customer service and I'm just told that I have to wait another 5 business days each time.

I switched my direct deposit info to my GoBank Green Dot account because they said it will be received earlier. When my deposits were transferred on my previous dd account, my funds were available at 6 a.m. It is now 9:30 a.m. eastern time and I still haven't received my direct deposit that was sent to GoBank Green Dot yesterday. I should've just stuck with my Amex Serve account. The agent on the phone said there is a delay but can't tell me the time my funds will be available. He just said today some time. Not a happy camper right now.

Have had a ok experience up until today. Made a purchase online in OCTOBER 2018, what was cancelled a couple weeks later. Called into Green Dot asking when the funds would be available, they stated 10 days. Well 10 days came and no credit. The merchant did their part, Green Dot is just holding $66.45 hostage and making it nearly impossible to get it back by putting as many barriers in the way. Imagine how much unclaimed money they fall into by practicing business this way. Well they've "opened up an investigation" but I've received nothing, heard nothing. Don't waste your time, this is thievery disguised as good business. They will take your money any way they can, god forbid you cancel a transaction, a common practice now in the 21st century.

On Oct 11 2018 I disputed a charge of $694.27 on my card. I was told it would take 45 days for my refund to take place. On Oct 15 2018 Green Dot bank froze $694.27 on my account which put me out $1388.24 now. On November 15 2018 Green Dot told me my money would be refunded within 24 hours. The next day Green Dot released my 694.27 that they had frozen but not the initial charge I disputed. I called Green Dot and after an hour and a half they said again it would be credited back to my account within 24 hours and gave me a $25 courtesy credit for my trouble. Now 51 days later and numerous phone calls I still haven’t seen my $694.27.

Green Dot secured credit card is not a real credit card. At first they used to let me load the money on the card to use for rental cars. Then one day nothing. The charges for rental cars were declined, as well as gas charges. I was at Avis rental car looking stupid thinking I could charge my rental car. I call Green Dot. They give me some bogus excuse about Visa does not allow for rental. I contact Visa and they said that the cardholder company which is Green Dot Bank is responsible for accepting or declining charges. Green Dot should be sued for false advertising as a credit card, when in fact they are nothing more than a prepaid card. They do not allow gas charges unless they equal 50 dollars or more. This company needs to be put out of business.

I was having a hard time loading a card with a MoneyPak. I've done numerous loads cause I have a cleaning and sewing business so people pay me however they can. I call corporate and talk to a man that was not nice at all. He told me I can't be using the cards to load my money that I've worked very hard for sure to losing everything in a house fire on October 4, 2018. Anyone in my shoes being a woman taking care of herself would do the same thing get some cash flow to get back on your feet.
So with that being said they blocked my cards with all my money on them and I'm very very upset and want my money returned to me and I'll never use GREENDOT cards again. They didn't give any notice at all no phone call text email or anything, they just blocked my cards with my money that I shed blood sweat and tears for to have a place to live for to eat a warm place or if the cold and now this green dot company has blocked me from paying my bills etc etc. I just want my money back that I worked hard for.
You people shouldn't be able to just block people's accounts with their money you don't know what's going on in their lives and to just block them from their money is dead wrong. I will not be without a home again. I am a 51 year old woman who lost everything in a fire last month so I'm not going to let you people steal what is rightfully mine. You people get enough from people by changing what you do for these cards. I have a life that In trying to fix from ground up and you people are trying to take what little I have to stay afloat so I want my money back asap and you can keep your cards without my hard earned money on them. It is very disappointing to find out that I can't use my own money. I have been trying all day to purchase items on Cyber Monday using my pre-paid Green Dot debit card and the card keeps blocking all my purchases. Worst of all, when I tried to call for support nobody, other than the machine, answered the phone! This company is withholding money from me on the day my son wanted to buy some books and isn't even offering help in return. Had Green Dot offered an actual person for support over the phone maybe I would've rated my experience as a solid 2 over a 1.

Updated on 12/17/2018: This company is a scam. They pretend to want to help, but they are stealing money from people. Refer to my prior post. I just today got a response "apologizing" for my experience. My experience is they took $500 cash from me and have yet to give it back. I got an email response today indicating I could call "Daniel" for a conversation and how to get my refund. The email said Daniel was available from 8am - 5pm Pacific. I just called. Got a voicemail saying, "I hours are 9-5, and please call again later." This company is a fraud, a scamming institution, and needs to be reported to the BBB. I have been without the $500 I gave them for more than 3 weeks now, and I cannot get anyone to respond.
Original Review: This was my first experience using Green Dot/MoneyPak, and in a word, it was awful. Due to a sale of my credit union banking account to another horrible company, Axos bank, I found myself unable to deposit checks or cash into any ATM. Axos Bank customer service told me it was "easy and efficient" to load checks/cash at any CVS or Walgreens store using www.attheregister.com. which took me to Green Dot, then to MoneyPak. Not true at all.
Over the course of the next several days, I have attempted to deposit cash into my own Axos checking account using Green Dot/MoneyPak. I gave $500 to a CVS attendant on Sat, Nov 24 with the assurance those funds would be available "immediately" to cover outstanding EFT drafts that I had scheduled on the account (remember, Axos Bank doesn't allow deposits at ATMs). I have now come to find out that Green Dot/MoneyPak doesn't support deposits to my Axos account, and I would be refunded my $500 within 2 weeks, less the $5.95 fee I had to pay to deposit my own money into my own checking account. Green Dot/MoneyPak gave me no contact information other than a website to fill out a refund request. I was shocked to see they actually responded to my request for refund, but they gave no phone contact information.
When I replied back that I needed the money returned asap to cover other outstanding obligations, they indicated there was no way to expedite the refund. Apparently Green Dot/MoneyPak hasn't heard of overnight mail. Candidly, I believe this company is a sham for the opportunity to hold funds of others, collect interests on those funds prior to disbursement, and keep the processing fee. I dare someone from the company to call me to discuss my experience.

Our small-business was victimized by someone who impersonated an employee and requesting a change in direct deposit info via email. The "new" banking info was to a Green Dot account. While we take responsibility for not performing due diligence with the employee directly (the fraudster was reasonably knowledgeable about our company and employees and the email request looked legitimate), it was impossible to get a timely response from Green Dot to freeze the new account before the money was drained. There is no way to get a live operator or even leave a voice mail. We left a post on their Facebook page which was not responded to quickly. While there are doubtless real, legitimate uses for Green Dot's services, they appear to do little to prevent fraudulent use, and make it virtually impossible to help when there is fraud!

Wanted a prepaid card for 2-3 purchases for an in game item. Used the card and got charged a $7.95 "maintenance fee". Called twice - got hung up on the first time because I asked for the "fee" to be waived. Second person told me they can't waive it and that I have to spend all the money on the card to close it out. Literally put $20 and they STOLE actually STOLE $7.95 from me. Worst prepaid card in the WORLD. Who charges such a high fee. And you can't talk or write a review on their site because reasons. You can write in, because I guess they don't know about email or basic technology in 2018. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COST OR IT WILL COST YOU.

Purchased a MoneyPak from the store. Waited 60-90 mins before attempting to load the funds on to my card via moneypak.com. When I did attempt to load, I received an error saying that I had to wait 20 mins after the transaction before I could load the MoneyPak to my card. I had already waited well over an hour, and needed to move on with my day. I attempted several more times to add the MoneyPak (while for some unknown reasons, still receiving the same error), only to be greeted with a new error saying that I had exceeded the maximum attempts to load my card and that I have to wait 24 hours to attempt it again.
Seriously? This is my money, my card, and yet because the system can't properly read a timestamp, I'm forced to wait an additional day? Called customer support and they were completely unwilling and unable to assist. If I wanted zero resolution, I wouldn't have called in the first place. Customer support, the multiple times I've had to call, has been unwilling to assist in any way. They stick to their script, and don't care the slightest about the customers. Thanks for nothing, Green Dot.

Total scam!!! My card was frauded and 165 dollars of my money was unauthorized in 5 transactions from another state, they blocked my card charged me for a replacement card and that card is blocked from being activated. Says go-to document upload and send pictures of my license from the and back, then finally accepted my images and approve. Then I get an email five minutes later saying to resubmit my pictures again, what a joke terrible customer service. I'll never see my money again. They are a complete thief and a joke.
